- 0:00We're back with Jim Moore of the Yukon Football Coaches Show. Mike Chrispino here
- 0:03coming up, jm you, it's James Madison. The Dukes Harrisonburg Virginia Huskies
- 0:10will hit the road again before coming back to play Sacred Heart. This team
- 0:14is nine and oh, Jim, five and zero in their league. I'm
- 0:18sorry, five one score games they've been involved in, and they won them
- 0:22all, five wins by twenty one points, by a margin of four points
- 0:27a game. I don't know. I don't think you're going I don't think
- 0:30you're lucky when that happens. But boy, they've got they've escaped a few
- 0:34times in some of these victories. Well they're damn good and they have a
- 0:38level of confidence that comes to the success that they've had in those tough games
- 0:41to be able to close people out. Anytime you can run the ball the
- 0:44way they run the ball and play defense the way they play defense, you've
- 0:48got a chance and they've capitalized. And they are an outstanding football team.
- 0:52I said earlier in the show. They lead the country and run defense,
- 0:56they get after the passer. They lost their best pass rush. The guy
- 0:59have fifteen and a half sacks and they lost him for us. It's a
- 1:02good thing for them and for him. It's you know, you never want
- 1:04to see that as a great player like that get hurt. But boy,
- 1:07they are, you know, they're they're pretty special. Yeah, they've kept
- 1:11eleven straight opponents under one hundred yards rushing, so it's gonna be hard to
- 1:15run the ball. They've got a quarterback, Jordan McLeod. He wears number
- 1:18two. He's an Arizona transfer, twenty four years old. What a day
- 1:22he had against Georgia's State the other day, twenty eight to thirty six touchdowns,
- 1:26ran for two. So you've been looking at these running quarterbacks all year
- 1:30long. What do you make of him? He's really good. He's a
- 1:34mature young man. He doesn't make mistakes. It's not like he's looking to
- 1:40run the ball. But when he decides that he wants to, he can,
- 1:44and he's very successful doing it. And he can extend plays. And
- 1:48when he extends him he can either get yards with his legs or he can
- 1:52make throws when you come off a coverage. He's got really good running backs
- 1:56that open things up in the run game, and he's got receivers that are
- 1:59sure handed and long, and they go out and get the ball, and
- 2:02they've got speed. They don't have any weaknesses as a football team. You
- 2:07know, I look at them there as a complete a football team as we've
- 2:10faced now. I don't know how they compare to Tennessee in terms of talent.
- 2:16Need to see him on the field on Saturday, but in terms of
- 2:21being like a complete football team, they're as good as you get. Yeah,
- 2:27this is a team that's in the midst of transitioning from FCS to FBS,
- 2:30and they've had some success. Obviously the game against Georgia State, they
- 2:36put up forty two in that game. They have a tight end, which
- 2:39I love tight ends. I've always been a fan of tight ends. But
- 2:43anyway, Zach Horton, number forty four, he had six catches the other
- 2:46day. He's six foot four, had a couple of touchdowns, So obviously
- 2:50he's a threat when they get in the red zone. Height end for them
- 2:53is a he's good player, I mean really good player, and they use
- 2:57them in a multitude of ways. You know, they use them in the
- 2:59back of the as a locker, they split him out wide as a you
- 3:04know, a fourth wide, and a fourth wide spot. They motion him,
- 3:07they get him the ball in all different kinds of ways in the past
- 3:09game, and he's a very talented player. Their defense, we were talking
- 3:14about as far as stopping the rush, very good. Jalen Walker is one
- 3:17of their linebackers. He's gotten in the backfield three and a half tackles for
- 3:21loss. What's the strength of their defense? Is it the front seven or
- 3:24how is their secondary? They're they're just good. They're you know, they've
- 3:30got they've played in the system. They they play well together. There's veterans.
- 3:35I think it always you know, defense typically starts up front. You
- 3:38know, if your ability, if you can stop the run and make people
- 3:40throw the ball to the beach, and you got the ability to rush the
- 3:44passer, then you know, things usually work out for you on defense.
- 3:47And that's what their formula is. They do a great job of stopping the
- 3:51run. When they put their guys in single coverage, whether it's three D
- 3:54zone or man and you know, some guys are isolated. They win when
- 4:00they get you the third and longer. They come after you. They don't
- 4:02make many mistakes, they don't give up big plays. They're great tacklers.
- 4:05They're physical, They attack the line of scrimmage. You know, they play
- 4:10defense the way defense was meant to be played, and that's fast and physical
- 4:14and with a lot of confidence in getting after people. Yeah. Credit their
- 4:16head coach to Kurt Signetti got there in twenty eighteen. His dad was a
- 4:21coach too, Jim Frank twenty years a head coach and they actually had Nick
- 4:27Saban on his kind of staff for a while. So Kurt is kind of
- 4:31an offensive minded guy. And yet he's put together a pretty good defense here
- 4:35as you get ready to play them. Yeah, I mean a head coach
- 4:39to the head coach, he's got to be responsible off phases as the team.
- 4:41But he's had good defensive coordinators. They've got good players. I mean,
- 4:45we have a great recruiting base. You know the area that they're would
- 4:47recruit from their local and you know in the immediate area is an area that's
- 4:54got a lot of talent. They know what they want, they go get
- 4:57the guys that they want. They're able to attrack them to their school.
- 5:00It's a tremendous school in uh. You know, I've heard that it's a
- 5:03great place to go if you're a young person and enjoy yourself, and you
- 5:10know, they've just done a really good job of creating the culture that they
- 5:13want to create and managing it. Yeah, they're in that area of a
- 5:16Virginia, West Virginia. You know, it's football country there, Pennsylvania,
- 5:20so they've been able to recruit very well. Coach, We appreciate it,
- 5:25thanks so much. Looking forward to this weekend. Let's let's pull a major
- 5:30upset. Let's knock these guys off. And no one goes undefeated in college
- 5:33football, no one goes undefeated in the pros. So they got to go
- 5:36down this weekend. Okay, with you? With you? All right?
- 5:42Thanks? You listen. Every week the goal is to win every week.
- 5:46The objective as we prepare is to win. Every time we step on the
- 5:48field. We got to believe we're going to win and uh and we always
- 5:53we always do. It doesn't matter who we're playing. That's that's the heart
- 5:56of a competitor, and we've got some competitors on this team. Yeah,
- 6:00there's no question about it. All right, looking forward to it. That's
- 6:01jim moa coming up. We talked to new i rollis the placekicker, Vallentin
- 6:06and the offensive tackle as well. We continue with the Yukon Football Coaches Show
- 6:10on lear Field.
