- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for episode 199? Lucas: We've talked about dog and cat before. Let's meet two bigger animals today. Luna: Ooh, are we going to the farm? Lucas: Exactly. Today we learn horse and cow in Amharic. Luna: Perfect. I love horses. Lucas: So horse is ፈረስ. Say it with me: ፈረስ. Luna: ፈረስ. Lucas: Great. And cow is ላም. Try it: ላም. Luna: ላም. Lucas: Awesome. Now imagine you're at a farm and you see a horse. You could ask 'where is the horse?' — ፈረሱ የት ነው? Luna: ፈረሱ የት ነው? Lucas: And you might answer: the cow is here — ላሙ እዚህ ነው. Luna: ላሙ እዚህ ነው. Lucas: Let's practice a mini conversation. I'll ask you ፈረሱ የት ነው? and you say ላሙ እዚህ ነው. Luna: Okay. Go ahead. Lucas: ፈረሱ የት ነው? Luna: ላሙ እዚህ ነው. Lucas: Close, but that was a bit mixed. A cow isn't a horse. Try again: ፈረሱ የት ነው? Luna: Oh right — ፈረሱ እዚህ ነው? No, I mean — sorry, let me think. The cow is here is ላሙ እዚህ ነው. The horse is here would be ፈረሱ እዚህ ነው. I was confused. Lucas: That's okay. So if I ask where the horse is, you'd say ፈረሱ እዚህ ነው. But if I ask where the cow is, you say ላሙ እዚህ ነው. Luna: Got it. So ፈረስ is horse, ላም is cow. Lucas: Yes. And we can add dog and cat from before: ውሻ and ድመት. Luna: Right, ውሻ is dog, ድመት is cat. Lucas: You're doing really well. Let's do a little scene. Imagine we're at a farm and I point and say ያ ምን ነው? That means 'what is that?' You can answer with one of the animals. Luna: Okay, you point. Lucas: ያ ምን ነው? Luna: ያ ፈረስ ነው. Lucas: Perfect. That is a horse. Luna: Let me try another one. If you point at something else, I'll say ያ ላም ነው. Lucas: Good. I'll test you: ያ ምን ነው? Luna: ያ ላም ነው. Lucas: Excellent. Now, if you were actually at a farm and wanted to ask where the horse is, you'd say ፈረሱ የት ነው? Luna: ፈረሱ የት ነው? I can do that.
