Ep. 340 - What is Christ Consciousness? · The Living Waters Podcast

• 1:04
Speaker 1: We're talking about this Christ consciousness, this new age, this Gnostic feel of enlightenment, but enlightening to what it's become subjective, you want to be like Christ, but which Christ?
• 1:16
Speaker 1: And everything is just all about me myself, and I right.
• 1:20
Speaker 1: But there's a greater problem that is associated with this, because it undermines the atonement right, that at-one-ment with Christ.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: It doesn't deal with the sin problem.
• 1:30
Speaker 1: This is the biggest issue.
• 1:31
  Speaker 1: We produced.
• 1:32
  Speaker 1: Why Christianity?
• 1:33
Speaker 1: A DVD, a booklet that you can get here at Living Waters, and it says that there's so many great religions but there's only one great religion.
• 1:44
Speaker 1: Because this great religion Christianity.
• 1:46
Speaker 1: It deals with man's biggest problem, which is you have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, hebrews 922.
• 1:55
Speaker 1: Without the shedding of blood there is no remission right.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: So no amount of enlightenment can erase that stain of sin.
• 2:04
Speaker 1: Only the blood of Jesus can do this.
• 2:06
Speaker 1: So you may look better than you were yesterday.
• 2:10
Speaker 1: It's kind of like Alcoholics Anonymous, right?
• 2:13
Speaker 1: They are forced, maybe by a court order, to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and you need to get at one with your inner self.
• 2:20
Speaker 1: And now it's whatever your higher power is and you move from one vice to the next vice.
• 2:27
Speaker 1: That's all it is.
• 2:28
Speaker 1: You're still dead man's bones on the inside.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: Spurgeon said morality may keep you out of jail, but it takes the blood of Jesus to keep you out of hell.
• 2:40
Speaker 1: Right, so we have to deal with it.
• 2:42
Speaker 1: There's a bigger issue, a bigger problem here.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: Or as MacArthur put it the gospel is not about making bad men better, but making dead men alive.
• 2:51
Speaker 1: So you seem to be doing better, but what are you going to do on that day when every idle word you have spoken is going to be made manifest?
• 3:01
Speaker 1: Everything ever done in darkness is going to come out inside the light, and this is why we go through those commandments, we get into this argument about their philosophy, but why not we just get down to the foundation here, that you've been weighed in the balances of an eternal scale.
• 3:17
Speaker 1: You've been found lacking, and your only hope is found in Him, who is our hope, which is Jesus, the Messiah.
• 3:25
  Speaker 1: The Messiah.
• 3:31
  Speaker 2: I'm hurt, I'm wounded, I'm offended, I'm heartbroken and I'm extraordinarily cute.
• 3:38
Speaker 2: Last night, mark Spence texted us an almost brilliant, a nearly perfect, close to magnificent art piece of the four of us in anime.
• 3:51
Speaker 2: Oh, this is hilarious.
• 3:52
Speaker 2: In anime okay, and notice, I said nearly, close and almost, but it ended up being far from all of that.
• 4:00
Speaker 2: It ended up being horrendous because of the intentionally hideous depiction of the most important person on this podcast.
• 4:08
Speaker 2: So look at this, it's bigger.
• 4:08
Speaker 2: Oh, thank you, oscar, here on this podcast.
• 4:09
Speaker 2: So look at this.
• 4:10
  Speaker 1: It's bigger.
• 4:10
Speaker 2: Oh, thank you there you go Okay, look at that.
• 4:13
Speaker 2: Look at those buff, those manly guys, especially the hair.
• 4:22
Speaker 2: What's up with the hair?
• 4:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, my hair looks amazing.
• 4:24
Speaker 1: Why do you have to be so close, though I mean?
• 4:27
Speaker 1: It's not bad, it just demonstrates how terrible your ego is.
• 4:31
  Speaker 1: I'm humble.
• 4:34
Speaker 2: You guys all look beautiful.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: You look buff, bodacious hair, I appreciate that the scrawny receding Arab in the corner.
• 4:41
Speaker 4: I look like Gollum.
• 4:42
  Speaker 4: I told you, it's realism.
• 4:43
  Speaker 4: I'm Gollum, it's realism.
• 4:45
Speaker 2: I text these guys and Ray says realism, it is.
• 4:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, none of us noticed an issue, except you.
• 4:51
Speaker 4: I look like Gollum's uglier baby brother, look how it's going downhill, oscar.
• 4:56

Speaker 2: We appreciate your ministry so much.
• 6:21
Speaker 2: Your podcast makes us laugh so hard, but, more importantly, it has helped us grow closer to God and each other in our first eight months of marriage.
• 6:30
Speaker 2: I'm both convicted and energized by the important and often difficult topics you cover, and I've even set aside my fears and started handing out your tracts, along with grocery store gift cards, to homeless people in our city as a token of our appreciation.
• 6:45
Speaker 2: We made these stickers to remind you all how to sound like Ray when you're speaking to the lost.
• 6:51

• 7:06
Speaker 3: This is the best, isn't that cool, oscar?
• 7:08
Speaker 3: We should hand her Oscar, mark.
• 7:10
Speaker 3: They spelled it out the way Ray would say it.
• 7:12
Speaker 3: That's how you say my name, ray.
• 7:13
Speaker 2: Mark, mr Comfort, oscar, and then yep, right and Eeg, you got your Eegs.
• 7:21
Speaker 2: Eeg, I didn't say Eegs none of you none of me man, unless I lost it no, no, you didn't.

Speaker 2: We should email them, we should fly them in bad terrible people like that so, guys, thank you so much for writing in.
• 7:37
Speaker 2: Oh, and this is a mystery, I don't know if our dear friend sent these or someone else, but we got back scratchers.
• 7:45
Speaker 4: Look at this did we mention back scratching?
• 7:48
Speaker 4: I don't think we have yet.
• 7:49
Speaker 4: Actually, I'm going to use mine as a fly swat.
• 7:52
  Speaker 2: Telescopic back scratches.
• 7:55
  Speaker 2: Aren't these cool?
• 7:56
Speaker 2: Like I always say, scratch my back and I'll scratch mine.
• 8:01
  Speaker 2: No they're not.
• 8:05
  Speaker 2: Swords you children.
• 8:07
  Speaker 3: Like lightsabers Unbelievable.
• 8:08
Speaker 2: Anyway, these lightsabers Unbelievable.
• 8:11
Speaker 2: Anyway, these are pretty cool.
• 8:12
Speaker 2: I'm excited to try it out.
• 8:13
Speaker 2: Right, oscar, scratch my back, I'll scratch mine.
• 8:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, that sounds about right.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: Tsukasa, mikasa, mikasa, mikasa.
• 8:19
  Speaker 2: Yeah, all right.

• 8:35
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he was our protection and we missed your beard, brian, thanks for bringing it today.
• 8:40
Speaker 2: It's glorious to have it, and Linda made a really nice comment about me.
• 8:45
Speaker 2: This is like destroy easy day.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: We asked about my voice, oscar asked about my voice and she said it's endearing now.
• 8:54
Speaker 3: The now stood up Now not before.
• 8:58
Speaker 2: Alright friends, and now a radically revolutionary resource.
• 9:03
Speaker 2: This podcast is brought to you by the Musk Million Dollar, bill Ray, was this your idea?
• 9:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, but with the Tesla burnings I don't know where it's going lately have you handled one out yet no.
• 9:18
Speaker 4: You can mail them to people or make them into a little paper plane and send it to someone.
• 9:22
Speaker 4: This whole thing is insane, isn't it?
• 9:24
  Speaker 2: crazy.
• 9:24
Speaker 2: What in the world is going on?
• 9:26
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 9:26
Speaker 2: You know, I mean forget who it is, forget.
• 9:29
Speaker 2: I'm just saying, like the fact that it's almost becoming normalized to wreak havoc and vandalism, and it's crazy.
• 9:39
Speaker 4: It's more than vandalism.
• 9:40
  Speaker 4: Yeah, it's terrorism.
• 9:42
Speaker 1: I saw these people, I guess, protesting the whole Tesla and they were all lined up along this road and this big dually truck with this black exhaust coming out went jamming right by him and just shoving the black exhaust onto them.
• 9:58
  Speaker 4: Seriously.
• 9:58
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was so funny.
• 9:59
  Speaker 1: Is this local?
• 10:01
Speaker 1: I don't know, it was just a video that I saw, was it?
• 10:04
  Speaker 4: in LA?
• 10:04
  Speaker 4: Ray, I don't have.
• 10:06
Speaker 4: Well, they wouldn't notice the exhaust.
• 10:07
Speaker 4: If it was in LA, they wouldn't have noticed the exhaust.
• 10:10
Speaker 1: What did you say about the exhaust in LA?
• 10:12
  Speaker 1: You?
• 10:13
Speaker 1: Wake up early and you hear the birds coughing.
• 10:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, I wake early in the morning and hear the birds coughing.
• 10:17
  Speaker 4: It's so unique.
• 10:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, where's that from?
• 10:18
Speaker 4: Planes landed on Ray?
• 10:19
  Speaker 4: What happened we?
• 10:20
Speaker 2: used to have that can of L.
• 10:22
  Speaker 3: It's right there.
• 10:24
Speaker 3: It says Marmite, marmite, same thing.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, marmite, no, I made this cartoon booklet.
• 10:30
Speaker 4: When I first came over a book that had planes landing on the air, landing on the smog and having to try again to get through to LAX and stuff like that Also created the you know the little snow thing, you snow things, snowglobe, snowglobe I did a Did it work.
• 10:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, but I thought, then the ministry opened to me and I stopped doing silly stuff like that.
• 10:52
Speaker 2: But yeah, it was a little picture of.
• 10:54
Speaker 4: LA and the globe, and you're shaking it and it went all dirty.
• 10:57
Speaker 4: Oh, that's actually brilliant, yeah, but it wouldn't sell well as a souvenir.
• 11:00
  Speaker 2: I don't know you think.
• 11:01
  Speaker 1: It might.
• 11:09
Speaker 3: And I made the block, just a little piece of wood with the wood around the block.
• 11:11
Speaker 3: I mean, if uh crazy, uh pet rock could take off, why?
• 11:14
Speaker 4: yeah, why doesn't it go run around the block wait?
• 11:16
Speaker 2: wait ray, was that your era?
• 11:18
Speaker 2: The pet rock thing?
• 11:19
Speaker 4: it was, came just before it.
• 11:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, did you have one?
• 11:21
  Speaker 1: no, I didn't okay.
• 11:22
Speaker 1: But, ray, did you have one?
• 11:23
Speaker 4: no, I didn't, I wouldn't want to pet rock okay, had a leash on and take it for a walk each morning.
• 11:31
Speaker 2: You should put a pet rock on your bike with sunglasses.
• 11:33
Speaker 2: No, but seriously though, please help me understand what was behind that insanity the pet rock.
• 11:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, seriously, people would hold pet rocks In those days.
• 11:43
Speaker 3: They didn't have toys and batteries and stuff.
• 11:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was leftovers of the Toys and batteries and stuff.
• 11:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was the leftovers of the Toys and batteries.
• 11:50
Speaker 4: The guy on an acid trip thought of it and people on acid liked it, I guess.
• 11:54
Speaker 2: But did they actually sell it?
• 11:55
Speaker 2: You buy the rock.
• 11:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, the people who buy a rock.
• 11:57
Speaker 4: You just have pet rock on it.
• 11:58
Speaker 4: You put it on your windowsill and it's my pet rock, proof of the stupidity of humanity?
• 12:11
Speaker 2: Seriously, yeah, it is.
• 12:12
Speaker 2: How do you really feel, though?
• 12:13
Speaker 2: Easy, don't forget the musk million dollar bill track and the living waters mug and evidence study bible on the living waters tv, all at living waterscom.
• 12:18
Speaker 1: Oscar, you're a good chanter I feel like I was in a latin mass.
• 12:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what it was and don't forget the podcast youtube channel because you get to see our lovely faces.
• 12:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's got clips of things from the podcast, video and audio, and it's got thousands of subs.
• 12:36
Speaker 2: Will they get to see the back scratchers?
• 12:37
Speaker 2: Join the crowd they might?
• 12:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, we should put the back scratchers in.
• 12:40
  Speaker 2: Oh, that's edible.
• 12:42
  Speaker 4: Stop licking it.
• 12:45
  Speaker 2: All right, friends.
• 12:46
Speaker 2: Today we're dealing with.
• 12:48
Speaker 2: What is Christ consciousness?
• 12:52
Speaker 2: Christ consciousness, and what do you mean by that?
• 12:54
Speaker 2: Yeah well, I want to define it for us.
• 12:57
Speaker 2: But boy, this has become a buzzword.
• 13:00
Speaker 4: We've just moved from Jekyll to Hyde, a crazy man to Mr Sobriety, talking about good doctrine.
• 13:05
Speaker 4: Today we're talking about?
• 13:07
Speaker 2: yeah, Christ consciousness, Oscar, another one of Oscar's brilliant ideas.
• 13:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been coming up quite a bit.
• 13:13
Speaker 3: It's starting to become a trending topic, especially among deconstructionists, though it's not exclusive to people who have deconstructed away from Christianity.
• 13:23
Speaker 3: It's a terminology that's been around for quite a while amongst new age thinkers.
• 13:29
  Speaker 4: That's for 50 years 40, 50 years.
• 13:32
Speaker 3: Richard Rohr is a popular writer in that world.
• 13:36
Speaker 3: He wrote a book called the Universal Christ.
• 13:38
Speaker 3: Someone else summarized it by saying this so this is in their own words to help us understand, and I like this quote because I think we can sort of unpack what's going on, because it can be kind of confusing.
• 13:50
Speaker 3: There are things that seem kind of redemptive but ultimately it goes against things that scripture says, and so here's a quote.
• 13:57
Speaker 3: When I talk of Christ now this is a person who's deconstructed it's usually not in reference to the historical Jewish man named Jesus.
• 14:05
Speaker 3: Jesus knew, to the historical Jewish man named Jesus.
• 14:06
  Speaker 3: Jesus knew.
• 14:07
Speaker 3: Listen, jesus knew the Christ, he expressed the Christ, he realized the Christ, he embodied the Christ.
• 14:15
Speaker 3: But he was not synonymous with the Christ.
• 14:18
Speaker 3: We tend to think of Christ he uses quotes there as his last name.
• 14:23
Speaker 3: Christ is more like a title, a descriptor, a category, a quality, not a particular human being.
• 14:28
Speaker 3: He goes on to say that Christ is a state of pure consciousness, a state of holistic being, a state of unitive perception.
• 14:37
Speaker 3: Some have described it as non-dual, unitive consciousness.
• 14:41
Speaker 3: We can explain that in a second.
• 14:42
Speaker 3: Labeling it exclusively Christ is also a bit of a misnomer, and this is important, for it could also be called Krishna consciousness, buddha consciousness, the Atman, the all in son all, camille the Messiah, the true self, and many other names, I feel like.
• 15:00
Speaker 4: I need to take a shower after hearing that, it reminds me of that incident that I what I subjected myself to when I was about nine years old.
• 15:08
Speaker 4: Remember my mom was out and I went to the kitchen and got every ingredient out of every cupboard she had put it in a huge bowl, stirred it up, everything, salt, pepper, flour, jam honey, I've never, heard this story, Ray?
• 15:23
Speaker 1: You've never heard it.
• 15:24
  Speaker 1: No, no.
• 15:24
Speaker 4: I was nine or something and I remember the bowl.
• 15:27
Speaker 4: It was a big bowl about 18 inches wide, and I just kept pouring every ingredient milk, everything, cheese, anything.
• 15:33
Speaker 4: I just stirred it all up, put my head into it and smelt it and I'll never forget that horrible smell.
• 15:38
Speaker 4: And that's what this doctrine is like.
• 15:40
Speaker 4: I thought you were going to say you ate it.
• 15:42
Speaker 4: No, the smell put me off.
• 15:43
  Speaker 4: And the pepper?
• 15:44
Speaker 4: I remember the pepper was the strongest smell of everything.
• 15:47
Speaker 4: It just overwrought everything.
• 15:48
  Speaker 4: I don't know why I did it.
• 15:49
Speaker 4: What a bored child, what is wrong with you?
• 15:53
  Speaker 2: What is wrong?
• 15:55
  Speaker 4: with me.
• 15:56
Speaker 4: You can write a book on that.
• 15:57
Speaker 4: It'd be a good title for a book.
• 15:59
Speaker 4: What is wrong with me?
• 16:00
Speaker 4: But yeah, but that's what New Age doctrine's like just to throw in everything here and it stinks.
• 16:15
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 16:15
Speaker 2: I think about what Paul said about Satan kind of driving us away from the simplicity that is in Christ.
• 16:18
Speaker 2: That is just a hodgepodge of just ridiculousness.
• 16:19
Speaker 2: You know, I like how you gave us clarity on that, oscar.
• 16:21
Speaker 2: I want to read something.
• 16:21
Speaker 2: I came across this commentator who kind of gave some insight on Christ consciousness.
• 16:26
Speaker 2: I think he had some good things to say.
• 16:27
Speaker 2: He said the Center for Christ Consciousness defines Christ consciousness as the highest state of intellectual development and emotional maturity.
• 16:35
Speaker 2: They go on to claim that Jesus achieved this higher state of being.
• 16:38
Speaker 2: No, achieved this higher state of being in his human life and was given this term Christ before his name, as the recognition of his achievement of his spiritual status.
• 16:50
  Speaker 2: I can't help but laugh.
• 16:51
Speaker 2: This path is open to anyone, regardless of their religious tradition, if and when he or she is open to become a living vessel of love and truth on the planet and actively strives to attain it.
• 17:05
Speaker 2: Another site defines it this way Christ consciousness is the state of awareness of our true nature, our higher self and our birthright as children of God.
• 17:14
Speaker 2: So again, just yeah, basically, in a sense it's not new, so to speak.
• 17:20
Speaker 2: It's a form of Gnosticism in a sense, but it's come up again.
• 17:24
  Speaker 2: Yogapediacom.
• 17:26
Speaker 2: Yogapedia, you made that up.
• 17:29
Speaker 2: This commentator highlighted this.
• 17:30
Speaker 2: He said Christ consciousness is an awareness of the higher self as part of a universal system.
• 17:36
Speaker 2: Although it can be interpreted in a number of ways, a common understanding is that Christ consciousness is a state of consciousness in which a person has found self-realization and unity with God or the divine.
• 17:47
Speaker 2: It may also be used as a synonym for the yogic and Hindu concept of samadhi or deep spiritual bliss.
• 17:55
Speaker 2: Although Christ consciousness is not intended to relate solely to the personality of Jesus Christ, its combination of Christian language with Eastern religious and philosophical concepts make it a controversial term to some.
• 18:08
Speaker 2: So, yeah, it's Eastern mysticism, you know, in a sense repackaged.
• 18:12
Speaker 2: And, oscar, I'm glad you highlighted Richard Rohr, because he's like the guy.
• 18:17
Speaker 2: I mean, he's the guy that's really kind of popularized it.
• 18:19
Speaker 2: And Oprah latched onto it and then that again put it massively in the mainstream.
• 18:25
  Speaker 2: He said this.
• 18:25
Speaker 2: He said this is Rohr.
• 18:26
Speaker 2: He said the second coming of Christ is you.
• 18:28
Speaker 2: And the second coming of Christ is still happening.
• 18:31
Speaker 2: It's not one event, it's all of history.
• 18:34
Speaker 2: We, we are the second coming of Christ.
• 18:39
Speaker 2: And then he went on to say he said the Christ mystery is whenever matter and spirit are operating as one, and you're the first generation that ever had a word for this.
• 18:46
Speaker 2: At the moment of the big bang Ray, you always talk about how evolution is used as the foundation for so much false teaching.
• 18:55
Speaker 2: There was no God, and then we are the definition of that.
• 18:58
  Speaker 2: It didn't start.
• 18:59
Speaker 2: 2,000 years ago, god started manifesting listen the God self.
• 19:04
Speaker 2: The infinite, eternal life of the Trinity outflowed and manifested itself in everything visible your eyes have ever seen.
• 19:11
Speaker 2: So I wanted to go through that to give you, our friends who are listening, kind of a grasp of what this is all about.
• 19:17
Speaker 2: Ultimately, oscar, it's the God self, it's you being actualized as God.
• 19:22
Speaker 3: Yeah, let me try to be a little winsome here, in the spirit of Paul in Acts 17,.
• 19:30
Speaker 3: It's easy for us to laugh, and there's aspects of this reality that is humorous to us, but I also want to recognize that there are so many people stuck in new age that have this spiritual angst.
• 19:44
Speaker 3: They sense a need to understand what's going on in the world beyond just the material, and so they're searching.
• 19:52
Speaker 3: They desire to know something about the world and themselves.
• 19:56
Speaker 3: And ultimately, what we're trying to show here is that this direction leads you away from the truth, not into the truth.
• 20:03
Speaker 3: I mean, I look at it like I try to break it down in my notes and different doctrinal beliefs and understandings, which is our previous episode.
• 20:11
Speaker 3: And so just one example is that salvation is redefined here, which is that sin is now just an illusion of a separation between us and God.
• 20:23
Speaker 3: And salvation is now escaping your own personal ego and realizing you're not separate beings but part of a divine consciousness.
• 20:31
Speaker 3: And I think of the movie Avatar, where they plug into the great tree and they're one with the world.
• 20:39
Speaker 3: That's that separation and then reunion.
• 20:42
Speaker 3: And the reality is that scripture reminds us that sin is not just a mistaken perception or an ego issue.
• 20:49
Speaker 3: Sin is a real rebellion against a holy and good God, and salvation is not about you killing your ego, but about you dying to yourself so that you would be found in Christ, known and loved by a true God, not just some self-realized consciousness.
• 21:11
Speaker 3: The beauty of the gospel is it's not about you loving yourself more.
• 21:15
Speaker 3: It's about you realizing that you've rebelled against a God who has stepped into reality to save you because he loves you.
• 21:24
Speaker 2: Amen, that's good, yeah, mark.
• 21:26
Speaker 2: I think some will use what we often reference on the podcast, imago Dei, as sort of this justification Well, we're made in the image of God, so we are God.
• 21:38
  Speaker 2: Speak to that.
• 21:39
Speaker 2: How does that differ?
• 21:40
Speaker 2: What does it mean to be made in the image of God and yet that doesn't make us God?
• 21:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's quite the swing of the pendulum, right?
• 21:47
Speaker 1: You can't search for truth when you're comfortable in the darkness and you reject the truth altogether.
• 21:52
Speaker 1: Being created and made in the image of God means we're self-aware.
• 21:55
Speaker 1: We're different than the animals.
• 21:58
Speaker 1: We have moral values that are attached to the decisions that we make, that we care about the right and wrong, not just have these instincts.
• 22:09
Speaker 1: I remember inside of college, when I was attending Golden West College, there was a question asked from one of the professors what is the difference between man and animals?
• 22:16
Speaker 1: And I remember a young lady had raised her hand.
• 22:18
Speaker 1: She says well, we're domesticated, we use silverware.
• 22:21
Speaker 1: And then she showed a video of an animal using a stick, putting it down inside of a hole and allowing the bugs to climb up that stick, and then using that and was eating the bugs that were climbing up on that.
• 22:34
Speaker 1: That's not what separates us, you know, from the animals.
• 22:36
Speaker 1: We are all together different.
• 22:42
Speaker 1: Galatians 2.20, it says I've been crucified with Christ.
• 22:45
Speaker 1: It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
• 22:48
Speaker 1: You know we're talking about this Christ consciousness and where they are attempting to find themselves.
• 22:55
Speaker 1: But it is the antithesis of what Scripture says, because it's not about finding yourself.
• 22:59
Speaker 1: It's about losing yourself and denying yourself.
• 23:02
Speaker 1: It's not about attaining to a level that you may be higher above everybody else and having this gnostic thought.
• 23:07
Speaker 1: I have this inside, information that you don't.
• 23:09
Speaker 1: We are gods, and this is what Shirley MacLaine did.
• 23:12
Speaker 4: That's the name of the person I've been trying to remember for the last 10 minutes.
• 23:14
  Speaker 4: You're welcome.
• 23:15
Speaker 4: She's the goddess of the I am God thing.
• 23:18
Speaker 4: Right back from the 1960s she started it.
• 23:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a video of her on this precipice, of this beautiful view outside of the ocean, or something, and she says I am.
• 23:30
Speaker 1: I am following those same words, the ego on me, I am, and there's only room for one right the I am of Jesus.
• 23:39
Speaker 1: He is the bread of life, he is the shepherd, he is the vine.
• 23:44
Speaker 1: He is the way, the truth and the life.
• 23:47
Speaker 1: If you're confused, he's the truth.
• 23:49
Speaker 1: Are you depressed and suicidal?
• 23:50
  Speaker 1: He's the vine.
• 23:50
Speaker 1: He is the way, the truth and the life.
• 23:50
Speaker 1: If you're confused, he's the truth.
• 23:50
Speaker 1: Are you depressed and suicidal?
• 23:52
  Speaker 1: He's the life.
• 23:53
Speaker 1: He is everything, everything in one that we will ever need.
• 23:59
Speaker 1: And when we say that I am like God, you have to think of what you're actually saying.
• 24:04
Speaker 1: Remember when we were in Santa Monica and that individual.
• 24:07
  Speaker 4: Larry.
• 24:09
  Speaker 1: I am the.
• 24:09
Speaker 2: Lord, thy God, prophesying, and he's claiming to be God, deep voice, ray, in the midst of the tirade, I mean this guy's going, he's waxing eloquent, prophetic.
• 24:20
Speaker 2: It was like demonic right, ray, I mean this is very loud too.
• 24:23
Speaker 2: And just going oh, I mean, I'm sure most of the earthquakes in California were caused by this guy's voice.
• 24:29
Speaker 2: And then, in the midst of that, Ray goes what's your name?
• 24:32
Speaker 2: And he goes straight from oh, larry, larry.
• 24:39
Speaker 1: You don't feel much like God when you're talking to Ralph on the big white phone.
• 24:44
Speaker 4: No, no, when you're throwing up.
• 24:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, right, you don't feel much like that.
• 24:50
Speaker 4: I remember that moment.
• 24:50
Speaker 4: The pastor said that we're in his car.
• 24:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't need to bring that up.
• 24:54
Speaker 2: No, you already did bring that up.
• 24:55
Speaker 2: You already got that off your chest.
• 24:57
Speaker 4: I've got to say something about Shirley MacLaine, though she thought she was God and was arrogant in that I sent her one of my books when we first came over here and she wrote a handwritten thank you note back to me which I've never forgotten.
• 25:08
Speaker 4: So she's got a humble heart.
• 25:09
Speaker 4: What did it say?
• 25:11
Speaker 2: I really enjoyed the fact.
• 25:12
Speaker 2: Wait, shirley MacLaine, yeah.
• 25:13
Speaker 4: She had a handwritten letter saying I really appreciate you seeing me?
• 25:16
Speaker 2: No way, shirley, you jest.
• 25:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, you're building up and you'll never forget.
• 25:21
Speaker 1: So what did she say?
• 25:21
  Speaker 1: That's pathetic.
• 25:22
Speaker 4: I really you've taken the time to send me your book.
• 25:25
  Speaker 4: It was.
• 25:26
Speaker 4: I've forgotten the title.
• 25:30
Speaker 1: How to Train your.
• 25:30
  Speaker 4: Memory Wow.
• 25:32
Speaker 4: It was all about the MacArthur Park experience.
• 25:34
Speaker 2: Someone Left the Cake Out in the Rain.
• 25:35
Speaker 2: That was the name of the book.
• 25:37
Speaker 4: This was a long, long time ago, oh yeah, like 34 years ago so anyway, that's pretty tough.
• 25:40
  Speaker 1: She's 90 years old.
• 25:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, she's really lost it.
• 25:44
Speaker 4: Many shall come in my name saying I am the Christ, and we're seeing that fulfilled in the New Age movement, people saying I am God.
• 25:51
Speaker 4: Jesus isn't the way, he's just an example.
• 25:54
Speaker 4: And yet scripture adamantly denies that right to the T.
• 25:58
Speaker 4: Neither is there salvation in any other.
• 26:00
Speaker 4: There's no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
• 26:04
Speaker 4: He that abides not in the doctrine of Christ has not God.
• 26:08
Speaker 4: I think it says whoever transgresses and abides not in the doctrine of Christ has not God.
• 26:12
Speaker 4: I am the way, the truth and the life.
• 26:15
Speaker 4: No man comes to the Father but by me.
• 26:16
Speaker 4: So he is the mediator between man and God, not just a good teacher, but God manifest in the flesh.
• 26:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, and on top of that he said John 14, 6,.
• 26:27
Speaker 2: I am the way, the truth and the life.
• 26:29
Speaker 2: No man comes to the Father except through me and women and women.
• 26:34
Speaker 2: And you know it's basically it's trying to circumnavigate Christ and to say not only can I get to God, because they'll use all this weird jargon, you know that's all muddled and mixed.
• 26:48
Speaker 2: So they'll say God, and then they'll say but we can become God Versus no.
• 26:53
  Speaker 2: What's the saying?
• 26:54
  Speaker 2: There's a God and you're not him.
• 26:56
  Speaker 2: If there's anything that's true, there's a God and you're not him.
• 26:59
Speaker 2: And the only way you can get to him is through the God-man, the mediator between God and man, jesus Christ.
• 27:05
Speaker 4: Yeah, and it brings some sobriety to this whole thing.
• 27:08
Speaker 4: The Bible says the things that the Gentiles sacrifice to don't sacrifice to God, they sacrifice to demons and so this whole thing is demonic.
• 27:17
Speaker 4: And you can see how demonic it is because many a time on Huntington Beach Pier I've gone to interview some lady who's in her maybe mid-50s and she just looks like a New Ager and she's sound even before we start.
• 27:28
Speaker 4: And she is Because it's so prevalent in Southern California.
• 27:31
Speaker 4: People will be involved in New Age and when we get to the gospel you can see the contention, the spiritual battle going on with someone who's New Age because, it really is demonic.
• 27:40
Speaker 2: Mark's favorite thing is the fact that patchouli is associated with New Ageism a lot.
• 27:45
  Speaker 2: This is true.
• 27:46
  Speaker 2: Mark loves patchouli.
• 27:48
  Speaker 2: No.
• 27:48
Speaker 1: I don't you still love patchouli, Mark?
• 27:49
Speaker 1: No, I ban it from my house.
• 27:52
Speaker 3: I think one way of understanding their view of spirituality is that Christ consciousness is like this great spiritual river.
• 27:59
Speaker 3: In your understanding of yourself, your ego, it's like this fork away from the river, and so to be more like a Jesus figure is to reattach yourself to this great spiritual river that's out there.
• 28:14
Speaker 3: And a part of the challenge is so many people who view the world this way reinterpret things that the scripture tells us, and this is kind of what you're alluding to.
• 28:24
Speaker 3: They reinterpret things the scripture tells us to mean something totally different.
• 28:27
Speaker 3: So, for example, the crucifixion.
• 28:29
Speaker 3: Someone would view the crucifixion as a symbolism.
• 28:34
Speaker 3: Jesus didn't die for sins.
• 28:36
Speaker 3: He showed us how to crucify our ego.
• 28:39
Speaker 3: So when Paul says I've been crucified with Christ, he's referring to his own ego.
• 28:43
Speaker 3: But of course, to spiritualize the cross is to drain it of its power.
• 28:49
Speaker 3: The view of the atonement Atonement is about divine awareness.
• 28:53
Speaker 3: Of course, to spiritualize the cross is to drain it of its power.
• 28:57
Speaker 3: The view of the atonement Atonement is about divine awareness and Jesus helps us realize that we're really not separated from God.
• 29:02
Speaker 3: But of course, this distorts both sin and grace.
• 29:03
Speaker 3: Forgiveness is seen as a great awakening to understand your consciousness, seen as a great awakening to understand your consciousness.
• 29:10
Speaker 3: But real forgiveness faces evil, absorbs the cost of sin and chooses mercy.
• 29:15
Speaker 3: And finally, the resurrection.
• 29:17
Speaker 3: It's not physical, according to them.
• 29:20
  Speaker 3: It's symbolic.
• 29:21
Speaker 3: Resurrection means awakening to the divine self, the defined now.
• 29:32
Speaker 3: It's transcending ego into oneness.
• 29:33
Speaker 3: But if Christ wasn't bodily raised from the dead, then our faith is futile.
• 29:36
Speaker 3: Christianity's resurrection hope is not like this great metaphor to help us be at more one in peace with ourselves.
• 29:44
Speaker 3: It's an embodied, renewed, ongoing death itself.
• 29:49
Speaker 3: The early church didn't risk their lives.
• 29:52
Speaker 3: The apostles, they didn't risk their life over symbolism.
• 29:58
Speaker 3: They risked their lives and even died because Jesus actually rose from the dead.
• 30:04
  Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good.
• 30:04
Speaker 2: You know, Mark, there was an apologist years ago that used to use this, saying it's the skin of the truth stuffed with a lie.
• 30:12
Speaker 2: What in the universe Is this Ray's valet service?
• 30:19
Speaker 4: Taking your jacket off.
• 30:20
Speaker 4: I was helping him take his jacket off.
• 30:22
Speaker 2: Hey, I want to be a servant.
• 30:23
Speaker 2: You done with your plate, yeah right.
• 30:25
Speaker 2: Mark the skin of the truth stuffed with a lie.
• 30:32
  Speaker 2: What?
• 30:32
Speaker 2: Oscar just read reminds me of that, Because you're using terminology which looks like the truth it's the skin of the truth, but it's all infused with lies.
• 30:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, and this is what 2 Timothy 3 talks about, for men will be lovers of themselves, having a form of godliness.
• 30:49
Speaker 1: It's the same concept.
• 30:51
Speaker 1: Right, there's the outside.
• 30:53
  Speaker 1: It looks good.
• 30:55
Speaker 1: Right, it's like plastic fruit.
• 30:57
Speaker 1: You've been fooled with plastic fruit.
• 30:59
Speaker 1: I grab a hold of that orange and there's just nothing there.
• 31:03
Speaker 1: There's this form of godliness, but it denies its power.
• 31:04
Speaker 1: Someone said beware of spirituality that starts with me, myself and I.
• 31:06
  Speaker 1: And that's really.
• 31:07
Speaker 1: Someone said beware of spirituality that starts with me, myself and I.
• 31:10
Speaker 1: And that's really what all worldviews outside of Christianity is.
• 31:13
Speaker 1: It's all about me attaining me, trying to.
• 31:17
  Speaker 1: What is it?
• 31:18
Speaker 1: Religion is man's attempt to get to God, but Christianity was not God's attempt, but that's the terminology.
• 31:24
Speaker 1: God reaching down to man, get down to man, right.
• 31:26
  Speaker 1: So, dietrich Bonhoeffer.
• 31:28
Speaker 1: He said when Christ calls a man, he bids him to come and die.
• 31:31
Speaker 1: So there is not anything about the New Age religion, which has this form of godliness that we can't attach to.
• 31:41
Speaker 1: And remember if you're not meditating on truth, you're going to believe lies are true.
• 31:45
Speaker 1: So we need to get past these Instagram reels, which is where we tend to get our news from, and open up God's Word and say search me and try me.
• 31:54
Speaker 1: I get my news from TikTok, tiktok yeah, much different.
• 32:00
Speaker 4: It's really easy to get swept up by these false doctrines.
• 32:03
Speaker 4: Oscar alluded to it being like a river.
• 32:07
Speaker 4: I was thinking you see so many people, especially on the Weather Channel, try and make it through a river in their car and it's just up to the wheels and suddenly they're swept away.
• 32:17
Speaker 4: The whole family goes down the river and there's powers involved that we don't know about.
• 32:23
Speaker 4: If you don't embrace the truth and you love a lie, you'll be given a strong delusion.
• 32:27
Speaker 4: Scripture says in Thessalonians.
• 32:28
Speaker 4: And so what New Age does?
• 32:34
Speaker 4: It denies that Jesus is unique as the Christ and the Savior.
• 32:36
Speaker 4: It teaches that humans are divine, contradicting Scripture.
• 32:37
Speaker 4: It rejects salvation by grace through faith and replaces it with self-enlightenment.
• 32:41
Speaker 4: And that's the basis of it.
• 32:43
Speaker 4: It's rooted in human pride.
• 32:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, I've always found that with so much false doctrine that it ends up leading to sexual immorality.
• 32:56
Speaker 2: You know, when you look at like a lot of these cults, cult members, there's always something tied into that.
• 33:02
Speaker 2: I witnessed to my first modern day Gnostic.
• 33:05
Speaker 2: Luke and I were coming back from our trip to Louisiana and our Lyft driver was taking us home, so I started to share the gospel with him and he was hesitant.
• 33:14
Speaker 2: He's like yeah, yeah, I have another religion, you know, and he was a Hispanic guy.
• 33:19
Speaker 2: English was a bit broken, it was hard to fully understand him, but ultimately he goes yeah, I am a Gnostic.
• 33:24
  Speaker 2: I'm like what?
• 33:25
Speaker 2: He's like yeah, gnostic.
• 33:31
Speaker 2: I had to have him spell it to make sure I understood what he was saying.
• 33:33
Speaker 2: And why does it start with g?
• 33:34
Speaker 2: Right, and so he.
• 33:34
Speaker 2: But he goes on to talk again about every way leads to god.
• 33:39
Speaker 2: Every way leads to god.
• 33:40
Speaker 2: I thought this is perfect because I'm sitting in the back seat and I'm looking at his gps.
• 33:44
Speaker 2: On the screen we're heading, heading 55 north, and I said hey, if you take 55 south, will that get you to my house?
• 33:51
Speaker 2: He's like oh well, you know.
• 33:54
Speaker 2: And I'm like no, there's one direction that you have to go in in order to reach it.
• 33:59
Speaker 2: You can't just say, oh, I'm going to do what I want and that'll get me to your house, and so.
• 34:03
Speaker 2: But ultimately, something he said in the course of our conversation again highlighted the fact that there's some form of sexual immorality tied into this, and we see that.
• 34:16
Speaker 4: Idolatry is the root cause of so much sexual sin, Because you see it in the Old Testament.
• 34:20
Speaker 4: They strayed away from God.
• 34:22
Speaker 4: Moses is up in the mountain getting the commandments.
• 34:24
Speaker 4: They forgot Moses and went straight into idolatry and then an orgy.
• 34:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, and what's part and parcel with sexual immorality is covetousness, and Scripture says covetousness is idolatry.
• 34:35
Speaker 2: It's putting any desire above God and that which is holy unholy above that which is holy.
• 34:43
Speaker 2: So yeah, so, mark, I'm curious what you think about this, because it's become a buzzword.
• 34:49
Speaker 2: So, mark, I'm curious what you think about this, because it's become a buzzword.
• 34:50
  Speaker 2: Christ consciousness.
• 34:51
Speaker 2: But people, even within some evangelical circles I've heard it used but they think of it as like oh no, I'm conscious of Christ, but it's not that right.
• 35:05
Speaker 1: Well, it depends on the person who now you're talking to, right, because it's not about self-discovery, it's about self-denial.
• 35:10
Speaker 1: So you could come across someone who's just kind of ignorant when it comes to certain things, and this is why it's so important, when we're out sharing the gospel with people, when somebody asks a question, to not quickly answer it.
• 35:22
Speaker 1: Just what do you mean by that?
• 35:24
Speaker 1: Because we have to be gracious to people who are on this journey, trying to work through things, and they ask a question that they haven't thought too deeply about.
• 35:34
Speaker 1: So what is the best way to witness to a Buddhist?
• 35:37
Speaker 1: It's not the way you witnessed to the Buddhist last time, necessarily.
• 35:39
  Speaker 1: Same way.
• 35:41
Speaker 1: You don't witness to the Mormon the same way you witnessed to that Mormon last time.
• 35:44
Speaker 1: We are called to be slow to speak, quick to listen I mean just quick to love, and we know that there's nothing more loving than to give somebody truth.
• 35:52
Speaker 1: But let's listen to the journey as much as possible, depending on that time restraint, allow them to talk and then to slowly begin to work into what they're saying, with good questions, good answers to what's going on, good questions, good answers to what's going on, ray, there's a confidence, isn't there, in having the truth.
• 36:12
Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, I think, as believers, there should be a certain element of ease about us because we know the truth.
• 36:21
Speaker 2: I mean it's like someone arguing a point that you know they're 100% wrong on and you actually have the evidence to show them, and it's like right there sitting in your phone, you're ready to show them.
• 36:31
Speaker 2: You're not Trying to jump in and you know and like, argue and get intense, but you just okay, let them go.
• 36:43
Speaker 3: It's like Mark and I, whenever you mispronounce Augustine, augustine, let them go.
• 36:47
Speaker 4: So when you're in a battle, people are throwing stones at you and you know you've got 10 great cannons right behind you.
• 36:52
Speaker 4: Sorry, in front of you.
• 36:56
Speaker 2: Right behind you To push you along.
• 36:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but I'm saying, I'm just saying that like I love what you both highlighted, right.
• 37:04
  Speaker 1: You being who.
• 37:06
  Speaker 2: Oscar and Mark.
• 37:07
Speaker 2: Oscar and Mark, right like being who?
• 37:14
  Speaker 2: Oscar and mark?
• 37:15
Speaker 2: Oscar and what is his name?
• 37:17
  Speaker 2: Get mentioned first.
• 37:17
Speaker 3: uh, mark and oscar, easy easy, easy mark and sandwiched, yeah.
• 37:19
Speaker 3: So anyway, um you were saying oh, you're really smart, really, really brilliant.
• 37:22
Speaker 2: So, oscar and mark, both of you guys highlighting the fact that, look we, we need to be careful how we come off, because we've seen certain people handle unbelievers in a way that is, let me just say, clearly disgusting in the sight of God, and I can say that confidently, because it contradicts Scripture.
• 37:40
Speaker 2: And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle, patient, able to teach in humility, correcting those who are in opposition.
• 37:47
Speaker 2: Make the most of your time with outsiders, redeeming the time.
• 37:49
Speaker 2: Let your speech always be the grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how to answer each one, even when Peter talks about giving an answer for the hope that is in you, you get with gentleness and respect.
• 37:58
Speaker 2: So we have to remember that.
• 38:01
Speaker 2: It's easy to be like, well, that's pretty stupid, what do you think about that?
• 38:04
Speaker 2: Do you think about it?
• 38:04
Speaker 2: But just to be like, hey, they're blind, like we once were, they're lost, like we once were.
• 38:11
Speaker 2: And then, mark, what you're saying about not letting every conversation have to necessarily be this package?
• 38:16
Speaker 2: Of course there's going to be things we'll say that are similar, because it's a new person, but it's that disposition and demeanor that conveys to that unbeliever.
• 38:26
Speaker 2: I care about you.
• 38:28
Speaker 2: You're an individual in front of me.
• 38:30
Speaker 2: I'm not rattling off some memorized speech just so that I could put you as a notch on my belt.
• 38:35
Speaker 2: Like I care about you.
• 38:37
Speaker 2: You know, I see that with Ray.
• 38:38
Speaker 2: Like Ray will say a lot of the same things, but every time I hear him it's like the first time and you say to the person listen to the earnestness in my voice, I care about you.
• 38:50
  Speaker 2: I mean Ray, that's prime.
• 38:52
Speaker 4: Yeah, and often I've noticed.
• 38:53
Speaker 4: It just happened again the other day where someone who's contentious, we go through the commandments into grace and suddenly they get the revelation that I'm not trying to convince them of anything, I just care about them and the fact that they're in great danger.
• 39:05
Speaker 4: In fact I likened it to a young man.
• 39:10
Speaker 4: I said to him what culpability do I have if I see sharks in an area that you're going to swim in?
• 39:14
Speaker 4: Do I have a moral obligation to warn you?
• 39:18
Speaker 4: He says yeah, I said what?
• 39:19
Speaker 4: Say there's a big notice up there that says sharks do not swim, but you still go in.
• 39:23
Speaker 4: Am I then culpable?
• 39:25
Speaker 4: And he said no, that notice should be enough for me.
• 39:28
Speaker 4: And then went through the commandments and I said, um, do you see a danger?
• 39:31
Speaker 4: And he says no, not really.
• 39:32
Speaker 4: I says, well, you've got a big shark notice, a warning, and it's your conscience.
• 39:35
Speaker 4: You need me, need me to tell you that you know that's your warning and you've transgressed it and you're in great danger.
• 39:41
Speaker 4: And afterwards he just hung around.
• 39:43
Speaker 4: He should have just left after what I said to him he can get, get out of here, but he would not.
• 39:48
Speaker 4: It almost becomes a point of embarrassment where they just stay around and the conversation dries up and they're just standing there and it's because they feel the love of God.
• 39:56
Speaker 2: You know, I watched a video yesterday.
• 39:58
Speaker 2: It just came up in my feed and it was this young man who was talking to a girl who was saying she was bisexual and he was sharing the gospel with her.
• 40:07
Speaker 2: But he was so loving but truthful right, there wasn't compromise in it, but very, very loving.
• 40:12
Speaker 2: And this other guy comes up and he's trying to help the girl and he's trying to escort her away from the man and she goes no, no, no, and she pushed him off and kept listening and at the end she demonstrated gratitude.
• 40:24
Speaker 2: And it reminded me, ray, of a encounter you had the guy, the guy who wanted to get away from you, and he was just had enough and he said I haven't, I haven't, uh, killed anyone yet, or so, or I haven't broken the rock.
• 40:37
Speaker 4: Yes, that meant so much to me.
• 40:41
Speaker 4: When he said yet I thought, boy, he's angry.
• 40:43
Speaker 4: And do you remember?
• 40:43
Speaker 4: It showed what the lips do when you're really agitated you don't just pull them in, but you pull them in a long way.
• 40:49
Speaker 4: That means you're really upset.
• 40:50
Speaker 4: And he was doing it, but he came around.
• 40:54
Speaker 2: I think he said you made my day or you saved the day.
• 40:57
Speaker 2: You saved the day.
• 40:58
Speaker 4: And then, with a lot of passion, he said it again.
• 41:00
Speaker 4: You saved the day, and I think he was considering suicide.
• 41:11
Speaker 2: He was actually homeless, living in his car and really upset about it, and then I showed him love practically afterwards.
• 41:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, that persistence of love and yeah, remembering that, call Ray.
• 41:17
Speaker 2: I love what you said.
• 41:18
Speaker 2: You know practically because when you look at Jesus in Mark 6, you know he looked at the multitude, he was moved with compassion for them and it says he taught them you know many things, but then he fed them.
• 41:33
Speaker 2: He fed the multitude, he felt compassion for them and so it was the truth, but mixed with good works.
• 41:40
Speaker 4: I'd love to have been there.
• 41:41
Speaker 4: Would that bread still have been warm?
• 41:42
Speaker 4: Straight out the divine oven Food and sourdough pre-buttered.
• 41:48
  Speaker 2: And what?
• 41:49
Speaker 4: about the fish, the multiplying of the fish, Were they gutted Yellow tail belly Sushi Blue fin Blue fin Tuna the best.
• 41:59
Speaker 3: With the yuzu sauce right on it.
• 42:00
Speaker 3: Ray, we've got to get you into sushi.
• 42:02
Speaker 2: I've had sushi in Japan in the airport it was nice.
• 42:05
Speaker 4: You guys are so easily distracted.
• 42:06
Speaker 3: Another aspect you mentioned just having compelled with compassion.
• 42:11
Speaker 3: Another way of doing this in a loving way is to find common ground.
• 42:16
Speaker 3: Often, when we hear people say something that's wrong, we want to jump right in and be like well, how do you know that's right?
• 42:21
Speaker 3: Or well, where do you get your information from?
• 42:23
Speaker 3: And we want to get into debate mode rather than trying to find common ground to draw them in to the truth, beauty and goodness that's offered in the gospel.
• 42:34
Speaker 3: And so one example of that if you're talking to somebody about christ, consciousness and etc.
• 42:38
  Speaker 3: Etc.
• 42:38
Speaker 3: To start simply complimenting them, man, I can tell you care deeply about spiritual things.
• 42:44
  Speaker 3: Where do you?
• 42:45
Speaker 3: And then you know?
• 42:46
Speaker 4: another example I really like your 14 inch blue mohawk another.
• 42:51
Speaker 3: Another way of doing it is is like asking the question of curiosity in regards to what they're searching for.
• 42:57
Speaker 3: You know, like, how do you?
• 42:58
Speaker 3: What is it like to feel separated from what you call christ consciousness?
• 43:02
Speaker 3: Because, ultimately, what you're doing is you're trying to discover an aspect of their life that is searching for something, and then from there you can pivot into the actual truth.
• 43:13
Speaker 3: Ultimately, I can't help but wonder that so many people in new age, they sense their need for something.
• 43:21
Speaker 3: They know they're sick and they're looking for a cure.
• 43:26
Speaker 3: They've just been sold snake oil and we have the actual cure, which is the gospel.
• 43:32
Speaker 3: And so, instead of going in hard and fast and combative and telling them they're wrong, listen to what they're looking for and provide them the truth, beauty and goodness offered through the gospel.
• 43:43
Speaker 4: I think in the book of Acts somewhere it says we're groping.
• 43:46
  Speaker 4: I think it's Acts 17,.
• 43:47
Speaker 4: Paul used the word groping in the King James Version Searching for God like a blind man.
• 43:53
Speaker 4: Just groping and the scripture you quoted before the servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle unto all men.
• 43:59
Speaker 4: We would treat a blind man with tremendous gentleness because of his blindness.
• 44:05
Speaker 4: If someone walked into the studio and tripped over a chair, I wouldn't say look, watch where you're going, buddy.
• 44:10
Speaker 3: After Mark stopped laughing, what would you do?
• 44:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd say to myself this guy cannot see, and the Bible says and except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
• 44:20
Speaker 4: The God of this world has blinded the minds of them that believe not, and so that's why we need to have gentleness, because they cannot understand what we're saying yeah, and it's easy to lose sight of the importance of that because, again, we always drift back toward selfishness.
• 44:38
Speaker 2: I'm worked up, I don't like this and they're coming at me a certain way, but we need to set that aside and look at them and think of them.
• 44:47
Speaker 2: Colossians 2, 8 to 9, beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ, for in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
• 45:03
Speaker 2: I mean, it's interesting here because this kind of ties into what we're talking about in terms of the Christ consciousness and new ageism, because it's a reminder that in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
• 45:17
Speaker 2: But there's people who will cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit and it's based on the tradition of man, it's the basic principles of the world, it's not according to Christ, to the true Christ and Mark.
• 45:30
Speaker 2: We come back again to being so familiar right with the authentic that we recognize the counterfeit.
• 45:39
Speaker 1: Absolutely and let me take it a step further right, with the authentic that we recognize the counterfeit.
• 45:41
Speaker 1: Absolutely and let me take it a step further right.
• 45:42
Speaker 1: We're talking about this Christ consciousness, this new age, this Gnostic feel of enlightenment, but, enlightening to what it's become subjective, you want to be like Christ, but which Christ?
• 45:54
Speaker 1: And everything is just all about me, myself and I.
• 45:57
Speaker 1: But there's a greater problem that is associated about me myself and I, right.
• 46:01
Speaker 1: But there's a greater problem that is associated with this, because it undermines the atonement right, that at-one-ment with Christ.
• 46:06
Speaker 1: It doesn't deal with the sin problem.
• 46:07
Speaker 1: This is the biggest issue.
• 46:09
Speaker 1: We produced why Christianity?
• 46:11
Speaker 1: A DVD, a booklet that you can get here at Living Waters, and it says that there's so many great religions but there's only one great religion, because this great religion Christianity.
• 46:24
Speaker 1: It deals with man's biggest problem, which is you have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, hebrews 9.22.
• 46:32
Speaker 1: Without the shedding of blood there is no remission right.
• 46:37
Speaker 1: So no amount of enlightenment can erase that stain of sin.
• 46:42
Speaker 1: Only the blood of Jesus can do this right.
• 46:45
Speaker 1: So you may look better than you were yesterday.
• 46:48
Speaker 1: It's kind of like Alcoholics Anonymous, right?
• 46:50
Speaker 1: They are forced, maybe by a court order, to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and you need to get at one with your inner self.
• 46:58
Speaker 1: And now it's whatever your higher power is and you move from one vice to the next vice.
• 47:05
Speaker 1: That's all it is.
• 47:06
Speaker 1: You're still dead man's bones on the inside.
• 47:11
Speaker 1: Spurgeon said morality may keep you out of jail, but it takes the blood of Jesus to keep you out of hell.
• 47:17
Speaker 1: So we have to deal with it.
• 47:24
Speaker 1: There's a bigger issue, a bigger problem here, or as MacArthur put it the gospel is not about making bad men better, but making dead men alive.
• 47:30
Speaker 1: So you seem to be doing better, but what are you going to do on that day when every idle word you have spoken is going to be made manifest?
• 47:38
Speaker 1: Everything ever done in darkness is going to come out inside the light.
• 47:42
Speaker 1: And this is why we go through those commandments.
• 47:45
Speaker 1: We get into this argument about their philosophy, but why not?
• 47:48
Speaker 1: We just get down to the foundation here, that you've been weighed in the balances of an eternal scale.
• 47:55
Speaker 1: You've been found lacking and your only hope is found in Him who is our hope, which is Jesus, the Messiah.
• 48:04
Speaker 2: Wow, I love the fact that you mentioned that, mark, because again, when we talk about the denial of Christ, we have to remember that that's a denial that has associated with it important, priceless truths, and it's not just truths in the theoretical realm, these are truths that have life and eternal shaping consequences.
• 48:30
Speaker 2: So always connect the dots.
• 48:33
Speaker 2: Don't just go by the facade that you're seeing, because that can, I think, delude us into really losing sight of the urgency.
• 48:42
Speaker 2: It's like, oh yeah, that's Christ-conscious, but no man that whoa I mean so profound.
• 48:48
Speaker 2: You're denying the atonement, you're denying redemption, you're denying the Redeemer and, in essence, you're denying the God who's the author of all those things.
• 48:58
Speaker 1: That's why we have to always work things back to the gospel, amen, always.
• 49:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, and Oscar, I love what you're saying about asking questions.
• 49:07
Speaker 2: I found that to be huge.
• 49:08
Speaker 2: I think I may have mentioned recently one of the things I've been asking people lately is who would you say is the one person in history who's impacted civilization more than anyone?
• 49:18
Speaker 2: And 99% of people automatically say Jesus.
• 49:21
Speaker 2: And if they don't, you convince them.
• 49:22
  Speaker 2: It's Jesus easily.
• 49:23
Speaker 2: And I asked him what is the most important book in terms of what's the most printed, the most translated, the most purchased, the most read book in the world?
• 49:32
  Speaker 2: Oh, the Bible.
• 49:32
Speaker 2: And so you're asking questions and then you tell them man, don't you think it's reasonable, if Jesus is the most important person that's ever lived and the Bible's the most important book that's ever been written, that you check it out?
• 49:44
Speaker 2: And I've just seen people go oh, that does make sense.
• 49:47
Speaker 4: Never thought of that.
• 49:48
  Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
• 49:50
Speaker 2: And so I think, asking even a question like this to someone who's into the whole Christ consciousness thing, just saying hey, let me ask you honestly, if you genuinely knew like genuinely knew that someone believed something that was wrong and that was harmful for them, would you want them to know what's true?
• 50:06
Speaker 2: Would you wanna tell them?
• 50:07
  Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
• 50:08
Speaker 2: Well, how about you?
• 50:09
Speaker 2: If you believe something that was wrong, would you wanna know?
• 50:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, man, that's all I'm doing with you.
• 50:13
Speaker 2: I care about you and I understand you believe that I'm wrong.
• 50:17
Speaker 2: I'm open to listen to you.
• 50:18
Speaker 2: I'm not shutting down.
• 50:23
Speaker 2: I want to hear what you have to say.
• 50:24
Speaker 2: Honestly, share it with me.
• 50:24
Speaker 2: I'm curious when do you get this from?
• 50:25
Speaker 2: But that's where I'm coming from, because I'm concerned about you and I'm just so thankful you're open to this respectful dialogue.
• 50:31
Speaker 2: Talk like that makes people put their guard down and open up, and then you enter in with truth that makes people put their guard down and open up, and then you enter in with truth and it helps have
• 50:41
Speaker 1: a dog wearing sunglasses.
• 50:42
Speaker 4: I was reminded the other day some I I came up to a girl.
• 50:44
Speaker 4: I said you want to come on camera?
• 50:45
Speaker 4: She said no, I'm too shy, and I've been talking to her for about a minute yeah before this came up and I said you're not shy, you're talking a complete stranger.
• 50:54
Speaker 4: She says, but you've got a dog with sunglasses on and that changed everything for her and I remember another guy.
• 51:01
Speaker 4: He came on and did an interview and I said you so readily did the interview.
• 51:04
Speaker 4: And he said to himself I think I mentioned this before how could you be so bad if you've got a dog wearing sunglasses and so it breaks down those barriers for me?
• 51:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're giving criminals ideas.
• 51:14
Speaker 2: Now, ray, you gotta keep adding stuff to Lucy.
• 51:16
Speaker 2: Next do a hat, then shoes.
• 51:18
Speaker 1: No, no, make her a clown Sunglasses does it, it does it 2 Corinthians 11, 3 and 4.
• 51:25
Speaker 4: Shows how spiritual this is when it comes to the new age.
• 51:29
Speaker 4: But I fear least, somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that's in Christ.
• 51:36
Speaker 4: For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you may well put up with it.
• 51:48
  Speaker 4: And so it's a different spirit, it's a spiritual battle.
• 51:51
  Speaker 1: New.
• 51:51
Speaker 4: Age teachings preach a false Jesus.
• 51:53
  Speaker 4: It's not biblical.
• 51:54
Speaker 4: In 1 Timothy 4, verse 1, it says Now the Spirit speaks expressly and in the latter times, some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.
• 52:08
Speaker 4: And that's really what it's about.
• 52:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, and doctrines of demons.
• 52:12
Speaker 2: That's so important to highlight because the author of those doctrines, the true head demon.
• 52:17
Speaker 2: He can disguise himself as an angel of light.
• 52:21
Speaker 2: So it's not Again.
• 52:23
Speaker 2: Some of it can seem so appealing.
• 52:25
Speaker 2: If you let go of your consciousness of the true Christ and His Word, it's easy to be like oh yeah, but it's not offensive.
• 52:33
Speaker 4: There's no sin, righteousness or judgment about it.
• 52:36
Speaker 2: I don't know if you gave the right reference, Ray, but the one about Satan, the simplicity of Christ, that was 2 Corinthians 11, 3-4.
• 52:42
Speaker 4: What did I say?
• 52:42
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 52:43
Speaker 4: I thought he said that.
• 52:44
Speaker 3: In Doctrines of Demons.
• 52:46
Speaker 3: That was your rap group name, right.
• 52:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, we like to rap and we like to rhyme.
• 52:51
Speaker 2: In fact, we do it all the time.
• 52:54
Speaker 4: I was watching an atheist church service recently that was highlighted on national television.
• 53:01
  Speaker 2: Atheist church service.
• 53:03
Speaker 4: I'm not kidding they meet.
• 53:04
Speaker 4: You could just sit and watch it and you would think this is a normal church service.
• 53:07
Speaker 4: Guys up the front playing guitars, people singing people giving testimonies and they said afterwards this is just like a Christian church service, except we don't say you're going to hell.
• 53:17
Speaker 4: And that really summed it up.
• 53:19
Speaker 4: It's just embracing something.
• 53:21
Speaker 4: That's not a love of the truth.
• 53:22
Speaker 4: Do they take up offerings?
• 53:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, everything was just like an ordinary church service.
• 53:28
Speaker 3: And now for the reading of Richard's words.
• 53:30
Speaker 4: Kind of like that too the reference books instead of the Bible 1 John 4, 2-3,.
• 53:35
Speaker 2: By this we know the Spirit of God.
• 53:37
Speaker 2: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.
• 53:47
Speaker 2: And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, and this is the contradiction, right?
• 53:53
Speaker 2: I mean in that, and this is connected to this basically, what's being implied is no, this was not the Christ who came in the flesh.
• 54:02
Speaker 2: He wasn't the incarnate Son of God.
• 54:03
Speaker 2: He had Christ consciousness and whatnot.
• 54:07
Speaker 2: And that's how you know.
• 54:07
Speaker 2: Anyone that denies the bodily incarnation of Christ is not of God.
• 54:15
  Speaker 4: Antichrist.
• 54:16
Speaker 4: Correct me if I'm wrong, but that in the original Greek doesn't mean in place of Christ.
• 54:21
Speaker 4: Antichrist doesn't mean against, but in place of it is against.
• 54:27
Speaker 1: I was told there'd be no testing today.
• 54:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good question, Ray, I'm not sure exactly on that, but Acts 4.12,.
• 54:37
Speaker 2: Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
• 54:43
Speaker 2: It's Christ, and we need to remember that.
• 54:46
Speaker 2: Oscar, what do you do when something like this creeps into family?
• 54:54
Speaker 2: Because I think sometimes we overlook that when we talk about evangelism, often on the podcast, I think we're thinking about those that are out and about, but man, sometimes for those listening, this has hit close to home with family, and sometimes it's not just family.
• 55:13
Speaker 2: That's like siblings, peer to peer.
• 55:16
Speaker 2: It's not just your children, where you're an authority, sometimes it could even be your parents, your grandparents.
• 55:21
Speaker 2: Like, how do you appeal to people above you or below you?
• 55:25
  Speaker 2: In that sense?
• 55:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, first thing is you write them out of your will.
• 55:27
Speaker 3: No, no, actually, it's funny that you bring that up, because I had a close family member who, over the last couple of years, really started to lean.
• 55:40
Speaker 3: I mean this, this you know particular person got baptized when they were 12, 13 years old and then, um, you know, when we lost somebody in the family, they started moving away from their uh, their proclaimed christian faith and into new age.
• 55:57
Speaker 3: Ism started, you know, thinking crystals were the answer and and, uh, just moving in that direction.
• 56:03
Speaker 3: And I sat down with them, um, over a meal, bought it for them and walked through, um, really, the kind of conversation that we're, having now asked a lot of questions, tried to show them that what they're longing for is actually found in the gospel, and we had several conversations.
• 56:20
Speaker 3: At some point it became clear to me that they weren't interested in having that conversation anymore, and so I've said this before evangelism and preaching the gospel is like an iceberg.
• 56:33
Speaker 3: It's the 20% you can see above water is your action.
• 56:37
Speaker 3: It needs to happen but 80% behind your action, unseen, is your prayer life.
• 56:43
Speaker 3: You should be praying for the people you're preaching to.
• 56:46
Speaker 3: And so I quietly preached, uh, I quietly prayed, and prayed, and prayed and I can say, by the grace of God, this person, um, you know, either repented of and came back to the Lord, or just recently got saved and baptized and is a member of a local church and is raising their child according to God's word.
• 57:08
Speaker 3: And that's not because I did it well, I was faithful with the truth and then I earnestly prayed for years for their salvation and God is faithful.
• 57:18
  Speaker 2: Amen.
• 57:19
Speaker 2: Praise God, good, good word, good encouragement.
• 57:21
Speaker 2: And, guys, there's hope, because there are people who were entrenched in that world.
• 57:25
Speaker 2: Our good friend Trevor Sheets his wife Ashley.
• 57:31
Speaker 2: She came out of that and God gave her a platform where she was ministering to people Doreen Virtue that we know, who's a friend of our ministry.
• 57:41
Speaker 2: She came out of that whole world.
• 57:43
Speaker 2: She was actually like a guru, she was a top.
• 57:46
Speaker 2: She said this it was a gurid, a gurida.
• 57:49
  Speaker 4: Gurida.
• 57:50
Speaker 2: Christ consciousness is a make-believe concept with no basis in the Bible or reality.
• 57:55
Speaker 2: It is one more New Age teaching to try to elevate people.
• 57:59
Speaker 2: Wow, that's what Doreen said.
• 58:00
Speaker 2: It's true MacArthur said the biblical Jesus is not an abstract force or a cosmic principle.
• 58:07
Speaker 2: He is the incarnate Son of God, who lived, died and rose again for our salvation.
• 58:12
Speaker 2: Any other Christ is a deception.
• 58:15
Speaker 2: That's what it is.
• 58:16
Speaker 2: Then, rc Sproul, to define Christ apart from his atoning work, his divine nature and his role as Lord and Savior, is to create a false Christ, one who cannot save.
• 58:25
Speaker 2: That goes back to what we're saying.
• 58:27
Speaker 2: You connect the dots and ultimately, yeah, I connected the dots with.
• 58:31
Speaker 4: The Antichrist means against Christ or in place of Christ, which is what Christ consciousness does.
• 58:37
Speaker 4: Gives you another Jesus, the spirit of another Jesus.
• 58:39
  Speaker 2: Right, that's good.
• 58:40
Speaker 2: And then finally, by way of quotes, our good friend Justin Peters.
• 58:44
Speaker 2: He said New Age spirituality has tried to hijack the name of Jesus and redefine him into something he is not.
• 58:50
Speaker 2: It's really well put Christ consciousness is nothing more than repackaged Gnosticism and Eastern mysticism.
• 58:57
Speaker 2: So we have to know that, because the scriptures, especially 1 John, says a lot about Gnosticism and that can help us.
• 59:03
Speaker 2: But, guys, I want to close, do you want to define Gnosticism?
• 59:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, so Gnosticism basically has at its root a denial of the incarnation of Christ.
• 59:14
Speaker 2: It has at its root the denial of really the importance.
• 59:19
Speaker 2: It has connected to it really almost an element of antinomianism, because it denies the importance of living a righteous life, because they acknowledge the flesh as being evil and so anything that you do in the flesh it doesn't matter, because it's evil already.
• 59:36
  Speaker 4: That's really good.
• 59:36
Speaker 4: Gnosticism is a form of antinomianism.
• 59:39
  Speaker 4: Now, what's antinomianism?
• 59:41
Speaker 3: Antinomianism is yeah, another way of defining Gnosticism is the Gnostics denied the.
• 59:49
Speaker 3: If you recall, we believe that Jesus is 100% man and 100% God, and so the essence in the beginning of the heresy of Gnosticism started when they started denying the madness of Jesus and they thought of it as purely spiritual, and that moved them into the idea that everything physical is of the devil and that we need to sort of move more towards the spiritual realm, yeah, and basically Christ as an emanation of God, but not himself the incarnate.
• 1:00:21
Speaker 4: So this, what we've discussed today, reminds us the importance of soaking ourselves in Scripture.
• 1:00:26
  Speaker 2: Amen, that's right.
• 1:00:27
Speaker 2: And I just want to say, I think, on a closing note, the importance for us as believers, to live in true consciousness of Christ oh, I see what you did there.
• 1:00:37
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying the fact that what as a part of the Great Commission, and lo, I am with you always, that's for sure, people, even unto the end of the age, and that he will never leave us nor forsake us.
• 1:00:51
Speaker 2: Guys, we have to remember that.
• 1:00:53
Speaker 2: I love this account given by someone a couple centuries ago.
• 1:00:58
Speaker 2: He said the time of business does not?
• 1:01:00
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure he'd be thrilled to hear that You're quoting him the time of business does not differ with me from the time of prayer, and in the noise and clatter of my kitchen, while several persons are at the same time calling for different things, I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were upon my knees.
• 1:01:19
Speaker 2: I love that that whole concept of you can be in the midst of the chaos of the world, but you possess Christ in you with as much tranquility as if you were in your prayer, closet on your knees.
• 1:01:30
Speaker 4: So who was this?
• 1:01:31
Speaker 4: Because you're aware of him.
• 1:01:33
Speaker 2: And then listen to this.
• 1:01:33
Speaker 2: This is John Wesley.
• 1:01:34
Speaker 2: His heart is ever lifted up to God at all times and in all places.
• 1:01:39
Speaker 2: In this he is never hindered, much less interrupted by any person or thing.
• 1:01:45
Speaker 2: In retirement or company, in leisure, business or conversation, his heart is ever with the Lord.
• 1:01:51
Speaker 2: Whether he lie down or rise up, god is in all his thoughts.
• 1:01:56
Speaker 2: He walks with God continually, having the loving eye of his mind still fixed upon him and everywhere seeing him.
• 1:02:03
Speaker 2: That is invisible, ah that wherever we are, he is there.
• 1:02:08
Speaker 2: So that's Christ consciousness.
• 1:02:11
Speaker 4: That's what I thought we're going to talk about.
• 1:02:12
Speaker 4: Dan had a right to you and say is this new age or what?
• 1:02:15
Speaker 4: Which direction are you going?
• 1:02:17
  Speaker 4: Yeah?
• 1:02:17
Speaker 2: well, it's shining a light on error and then ending with truth that the true consciousness of Jesus is remembering we are not him, we will never be him, but he is with us, he loves us, he redeemed us and he made us his.
• 1:02:33
Speaker 2: So go with that, friends.
• 1:02:35
