• 5:05
Speaker 1: I got a couple of things we're going to do here.
• 5:07
Speaker 1: One of them is recalls.
• 5:12
Speaker 1: Okay, ford and Mazda.
• 5:15
Speaker 1: They used to be owned by Ford.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: They issued an urgent do not drive warning for more than 457,000 vehicles.
• 5:26
  Speaker 1: What, yeah?
• 5:28
Speaker 1: Equipped with recalled, unrepaired Takata airbags.
• 5:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, we're still going through this.
• 5:35
Speaker 1: If you have one of these vehicles, do not drive it until the repair is completed and the defective airbag is replaced.
• 5:44
Speaker 1: It until the repair is completed and the defective airbag is replaced.
• 5:47
Speaker 1: This do not drive warning covers all unrepaired, recalled ford, lincoln and mercury vehicles, as well as mazda vehicles that are equipped with non-desiccated takata airbags.
• 5:59
Speaker 1: Now, how are you going to tell?
• 6:00
Speaker 1: You're going to tell you, uh.
• 6:02
Speaker 1: Nitsa is urging all vehicle owners to immediately check to see if their vehicle has an open Takata airbag recall by visiting NHTSAgov slash recalls and entering the license plate or VIN number.
• 6:12
Speaker 1: If it does, owners should contact their dealership to schedule a free repair as soon as possible and follow any warnings from the vehicle manufacturer.
• 6:22
Speaker 1: Ford and Mazda are offering free towing, mobile repair and, if necessary, a loaner.
• 6:31
Speaker 3: That's how important this is 400,000 loaners 457,000 vehicles.
• 6:37
Speaker 1: Wow, wow, that's huge.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: And you know, the Takata thing's been going on for quite some time, ten years.
• 6:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, boy, they're out of business.
• 6:46
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, but the problem is like my father's van.
• 6:50
Speaker 2: We did the recall, then we got a recall on the recall.
• 6:54
  Speaker 2: Oh boy.
• 6:55
Speaker 2: And then we had a third one.
• 6:56
Speaker 2: And if you've got 450,000 of them sitting in a warehouse someplace because you're fixing to install them, how many of those are going to be defective?
• 7:05
Speaker 3: Well, let's just be real negative about it.
• 7:07
Speaker 3: Well, I'm just more realistic.
• 7:09
Speaker 2: I mean, I'm thinking how do you tell if you have the desiccant or not?
• 7:14
Speaker 1: You look it out on the carpet and see if it's kind of like.
• 7:16
Speaker 1: If you have not taken your car that has a VIN number or a license number on it into the shop to get repaired for the Takata recall, they'll tell you it's not been taken in.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: Go and look yeah, you, it's not been taken in right.
• 7:29
Speaker 1: Go and look, yeah, you don't have to find out whether it's desiccated or not just do it.
• 7:32
Speaker 2: Just do it, yeah, and you should do that every year whenever you go get your your license renewed.
• 7:37
Speaker 1: That's part of it that you should do other recalls include jeep gladiator and wrangler for 2021.
• 7:44
Speaker 1: Loss of drive power.

  Speaker 3: , 28.
• 12:58

• 13:24
Speaker 1: 1953 Mercury Custom Two-door With skirts on it.
• 13:34
Speaker 1: It looks completely stock.
• 13:38
Speaker 1: It's even got the Dagmars on the bumper $46,000.

• 13:49
  Speaker 1: $10,500.
• 13:50
  Speaker 2: We're way off.
• 13:51
Speaker 2: Well, I was thinking, maybe with the Dagmar.
• 13:54
Speaker 3: Okay, I was thinking of a different model than the custom.
• 14:01
Speaker 1: Now here are two C5 Corvettes, both of them convertibles.
• 14:05
Speaker 1: Okay, they look stock, now I don't know about mileage or anything like that.
• 14:10
Speaker 1: The year model is 2000,.
• 14:12
Speaker 1: And they're Corvettes, convertibles, convertibles, what we used to call Roadsters back in the day.
• 14:19
Speaker 1: What do you think that that would go for?
• 14:22
Speaker 1: And I will tell you right now that they're pretty close to $1,000.
• 14:28
Speaker 2: That separate the two $10,000 that separate the two.
• 14:35
Speaker 2: I'm going to say by being on Hemings it's going to be low mileage and I'm going to say 24.
• 14:41
  Speaker 2: 26.
• 14:42
Speaker 1: $18,480 is the high one You're getting all the money out.
• 14:46
Speaker 2: It must not be that low mileage.
• 14:48
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 14:48
Speaker 1: I mean, they look super clean.
• 14:51
Speaker 2: I understand, but I mean there's a 2002 sitting down in Webster with less than 40,000 miles on it.
• 14:58
Speaker 3: It's still sitting there.
• 14:59
  Speaker 3: Yeah, it's down to 19.
• 15:00
Speaker 3: They ought to put Mike Marr's license plate on there.
• 15:03
  Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
• 15:04
Speaker 1: Let's see, I think I'm going to change my name.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: I got another one, I'm going to show you here.
• 15:07
Speaker 1: I'm going to change my name to C5.
• 15:10
  Speaker 1: C5?
• 15:11
Speaker 1: And I'm going to start buying up all the C5s and I'm going to do a Craig Bierman on it and I'm going to mark them up by $50,000.
• 15:18
Speaker 1: And I'm going to get rich, flip them.
• 15:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, the problem is then you end up with one like what they've got down there and you end up sitting on it a year.
• 15:27
Speaker 1: Well, you know the car well.
• 15:29
Speaker 1: This particular one is 24 years old, mine's 23 years old and it's a 23-year-old car.
• 15:36
Speaker 1: So when something goes wrong with it, just remember it's 23 years old.
• 15:40
Speaker 1: It doesn't make any difference whether it's got 15,000 miles on it or 150,000.
• 15:45
Speaker 3: So what is yours worth?
• 15:46
  Speaker 3: I paid 18 for it.
• 15:47
Speaker 3: Okay, what's it worth now?
• 15:48
  Speaker 3: 18.
• 15:50
Speaker 2: At least it's manual Six-speed, that's true, makes a big difference.
• 15:54
  Speaker 1: Okay, so 19.
• 15:56
Speaker 2: It'll do more than that?
• 15:56
Speaker 2: I don't think so, but you've got the wheels and stuff on it.
• 15:59
Speaker 2: Anyway, I've been doing some reading and the problem is you say it doesn't make any difference If it's only got 15,000 miles on a 25-year-old car, it means it hasn driven very much, which?
• 16:09
Speaker 1: means all of the rubber on it is yeah, exactly, exactly that's why I will tell you when I changed the fluids remember I changed the fluids a couple of years ago, my first time they'd been changed, okay, and then the car had like 25 000 miles on it.
• 16:24
Speaker 1: The fluid change for everything was a thousand dollars.
• 16:28
Speaker 1: It's expensive, yeah, and, and that goes for everything that's in there.
• 16:34
Speaker 1: You know the regular culprits the rear end, the transmission.
• 16:39
Speaker 1: Even though it's a manual transmission, it's got lube in it.
• 16:42
  Speaker 1: That's right, right.
• 16:43
Speaker 1: Power steering radiator flush all the brakes, all of it, it's $1,000.
• 16:50
Speaker 1: So you know, buying a used car just because it has low miles on it doesn't mean that it's going to be.
• 16:55
Speaker 1: Oh, look at that.
• 16:56
Speaker 2: And then you start reading about certain years that have problems with harmonic balancers that have to be changed and things like that.
• 17:02
Speaker 2: So you've got to be careful.
• 17:04
Speaker 1: Low miles could cost you a lot of money if you start putting some miles on it Well, and you know, for me, of course, as you know, I put a new clutch in because it burned up.
• 17:13
Speaker 1: Then I think that the prior owners, one in particular by the name of Greg Enders, I think burned up the clutch in it and I helped it along when I went to get on the drag strip.
• 17:29
Speaker 2: Well, but I mean, it's a car and you buy it to drive and that was $2,000.
• 17:32
  Speaker 1: Hiccup there.
• 17:33
Speaker 1: Remember, you've got to drop the entire rear end.
• 17:36
Speaker 1: The entire rear end has to come out of the car because that's where the clutch is.
• 17:41
Speaker 2: It's not up at the bell housing.
• 17:42
Speaker 2: You probably shouldn't be doing that in my driveway then.
• 17:45
Speaker 2: It's a good thing to know.
• 17:46
  Speaker 3: Makes that automatic.
• 17:47
Speaker 3: Look, I'm volunteering for that one, yeah not me.

• 20:23
Speaker 2: George wanted to let you know he just did his 2007 Dodge Ram with 60,000 miles for $835 compared to your.
• 20:32
Speaker 3: Well, ram versus Corvette, yeah, yeah.
• 20:36
Speaker 2: Also, I got a text from somebody.
• 20:37
Speaker 3: So you're saying George, overpaid.
• 20:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Said they confirmed, on a 25-year-old Camry with only 40,000 miles.
• 20:44
Speaker 2: Every gasket in it is leaking and seeping and they're going through Hoses belts, all that yeah.
• 20:50
Speaker 1: All right Time now for the Motor Minute here on the Hillside.
• 20:53
  Speaker 1: Yeah, my Motor.
• 20:54
  Speaker 3: Minute this week.
• 20:54
Speaker 3: I don't know if you all know this and folks may not.
• 20:56
Speaker 3: Bonneville Salt Flats has been going on this month.
• 20:59
  Speaker 1: It's fantastic.
• 21:00
Speaker 1: I get a blurb every once in a while, so in the beginning of the month were the bikes.
• 21:04
Speaker 3: They ran from the first part of August, august 3rd, through the 9th, and then at the end of the month, coming up next week into September are the cars and the four-wheelers.
• 21:13
Speaker 3: But you can get there.
• 21:14
Speaker 3: It's in the middle of nowhere, obviously, but if you want to go, you can pre-enter for your vehicle at $700.
• 21:22
Speaker 3: But if you want to go the day of and enter your car, mike, it's $800.
• 21:27
Speaker 1: Spectator fees are $60.
• 21:28
Speaker 1: Take the in-wheel time truck there you go.
• 21:29
Speaker 3: Spectator fees are $60.
• 21:31
Speaker 3: For a salt pass pin it's $25 a day and then you can only buy them at the event.
• 21:36
Speaker 3: If you're a spectator, you can't get on.
• 21:38
Speaker 3: There's no website or anything to get online in the pre-purchase.
• 21:41
Speaker 3: But the cars that you race, if you've got a car that you're taking out there, you know the sanctions and all the people to go do that.
• 21:51
Speaker 3: And then, of course, you've got to go through tech if you're bringing the in-wheel time machine.
• 21:53
Speaker 1: You've got to go through all that Camper top.
• 21:54
Speaker 1: Is that going to be legal?
• 21:55
  Speaker 1: We don't know.
• 21:55
Speaker 2: Well, it's kind of like a We'll see how air damage it helps the coefficient.
• 21:59
Speaker 3: It helps the coefficient, yeah.
• 22:00
Speaker 3: So if you want to do a non-record run, it's called Run what you Brung.
• 22:05
Speaker 3: That class is a for the entry.
• 22:07
Speaker 3: If you want to do an AMA for the motorcycles, it's $695.
• 22:21
Speaker 3: And if you want to be a spectator on the run, you've got to pay $100 or $25 a day.
• 22:26
Speaker 3: It is through the SCTA slash BNI Speed Week in August.
• 22:31
Speaker 3: So look that up and you can do a bike or a car.
• 22:33
Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, the bikes are already done and that's what's going on in my motor minute.
• 22:37
Speaker 3: I had no clue it was this going on.
• 22:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, so there you go.
• 22:41
Speaker 1: You'd think that you know 100-degree days are here.
• 22:45
Speaker 1: There's not much out there.
• 22:46
Speaker 1: I was going to say, yeah, Bonneville Salt.
• 22:48
  Speaker 2: Lake Apparently, Apparently.
• 22:49
Speaker 2: It can get kind of soft out there when it rains, and of course, everything is weather-related.
• 22:53
Speaker 3: Yes, because it does flood too.
• 22:56
Speaker 1: Time now for this hour's car review.
• 22:57
Speaker 1: The 2024 Kia Sorento was supplied to me to see what it was like, and here it is.
• 23:05
Speaker 1: It's available in these trim levels LX, s, ex SX, x-line, ex, x-line SX, s-line, sx, prestige.
• 23:24
  Speaker 1: Is that enough?
• 23:24
  Speaker 2: for you.
• 23:25
  Speaker 2: I had the.
• 23:25
  Speaker 1: X-Pro SX Prestige 2.5T AWD.
• 23:30
Speaker 1: How do you get that on a piece of paper?
• 23:32
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 23:33
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 23:35
Speaker 1: It's a small what we would consider a small or midsize SUV.
• 23:39
Speaker 1: This is the second largest selling vehicle behind Telluride in the Kia lineup.
• 23:45
Speaker 1: It seats six or seven people, depending on the second row configuration, whether you got buckets or you got a bench.
• 23:53
Speaker 1: Exterior changes from last model year.
• 23:56
Speaker 1: Well, it's been updated for 2024.
• 23:58
Speaker 1: It was all new in 21.
• 23:59
Speaker 1: Exterior features include a vertical headlights on not A, but vertical headlights located on the front fenders, with wide rectangle grill up front.
• 24:12
Speaker 1: Straight lines on the windows allow for unobstructed greenhouse, including the D-pillar.
• 24:18
Speaker 1: All the way back there to the back of this thing.
• 24:20
Speaker 1: It has actual wheel arches that are very symmetrical in shape, with kick-out door sills, dual vertical taillights, sunshade over the hatch glass and no noticeable exhaust tips, and I find that refreshing.
• 24:44
  Speaker 1: Oddly, enough.
• 24:45
  Speaker 1: Yeah, I do.
• 24:46
Speaker 1: I mean, why are you going to put fake dual exhaust when it's got a four-banger in it, when it's only got one exhaust pipe?
• 24:55
  Speaker 1: It's a thing.
• 24:56
Speaker 1: What I liked the conservative, yet modern styling.
• 24:59
Speaker 1: What could use improvement?
• 25:00
  Speaker 1: Not sure, really.
• 25:01
  Speaker 1: It's a nice look.
• 25:02
Speaker 1: Interior highlights huge infotainment screen that sits on the top, on the top of the dash shelf.
• 25:09
Speaker 1: So picture the dash as a shelf and then on top of it is this big glass screen that sits on top of it.
• 25:17
Speaker 1: Very unique and it's pretty cool actually.
• 25:19
Speaker 1: Large center console that begins under the dash.
• 25:23
Speaker 1: Comfortable seating with perforated surfaces.
• 25:26
Speaker 1: They allow for back and butt cooling.
• 25:29
Speaker 1: Plenty of cubbies throughout the cabin.
• 25:32
Speaker 1: Cargo trunk room tiny with the third row up.
• 25:36
Speaker 1: What I liked about it actual adults can squeeze back into the third row.
• 25:43
Speaker 1: But they got that third row seat pushed right up against the back hatch glass.
• 25:48
Speaker 1: So your head, there's the glass right back there right behind the headrest, you don't?
• 25:52
  Speaker 2: need a headrest.
• 25:53
Speaker 2: No, you just put it on the glass.
• 25:55
  Speaker 1: That's it.
• 25:55
Speaker 1: It's built in West Point, georgia, by the way.
• 25:59
Speaker 1: 2.5 liter turbocharged engine with 281 horsepower, 311 pound-feet of torque, eight-speed automatic transmission.
• 26:06
Speaker 1: It'll tow up to 2,000 pounds, 20 miles per gallon, city 27, highway for combined at 23.
• 26:13
  Speaker 1: It's what's rated.
• 26:14
Speaker 1: I got 23.1 miles per gallon over 365 miles.
• 26:18
Speaker 1: What I liked about it plenty of power for this thing, believe it or not.
• 26:27
Speaker 1: 281 horsepower is pretty good, but the turbo lag will get you in trouble when you're trying to make a quick dash across the intersection.
• 26:31
Speaker 1: Start and stop feature can also be annoying at times, but that's me and my style of driving.
• 26:36
Speaker 1: It might not be yours.
• 26:37
Speaker 1: What I liked about the ride and handling sporty handling, but could use improvement.
• 26:41
Speaker 1: The springage can be a little bit stiff on certain road surfaces, but overall it's pretty good.
• 26:49
Speaker 1: Pricing $47,390 is the base trim price.
• 26:55
Speaker 1: Price is tested $49,400.
• 26:58
Speaker 1: The base model price $31,990.
• 27:01
Speaker 1: It competes against the Toyota RAV4 for $28,675, the Honda CR-V for $29,500, and the Hyundai Santa Fe, its cousin, for $33,950.
• 27:15
Speaker 1: And that, my friends, is the review of the 2024 Kia Sorento.
• 27:21
Speaker 1: Go check it out.
• 27:22
Speaker 1: I think that you'll probably like it.
• 27:25
Speaker 1: Remember I am a two-foot driver in an automatic transmission Well, obviously in a manual, but I brake with my left foot and use the gas with my right.
• 27:36
Speaker 1: Well, some cars don't like that very much.
• 27:41
Speaker 1: They want just that little bit of pause when you take your foot off the brake and put it on the accelerator, because it's thinking, okay, he's getting ready to go, okay, and they have algorithms that take care of that.
• 27:53
Speaker 1: Well, here I am at the drag strip all the time, foot on the brake and that right foot is over here on the gas Brake torquing.
• 28:02
Speaker 1: No, no, I don't brake, torque it Off the brake onto the throttle Immediately.
• 28:09
Speaker 1: Some of them don't like it.
• 28:11
  Speaker 1: I don't think that's one of them.
• 28:12
  Speaker 1: On-ramp acceleration test.
• 28:13
  Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it.
