Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: So I'm here today with Lolo talking about all good things,
- 0:14Speaker 1: which you have just been announced on the lineup this morning.
- 0:16Speaker 2: How are you feeling?
- 0:17Speaker 3: I am feeling so excited.
- 0:19Speaker 4: I've been wanting to come to Australia for so long
- 0:21Speaker 4: and it's finally happening.
- 0:23Speaker 3: It feels surreal.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And you've got a few friends on the lineup, like
- 0:28Speaker 1: obviously Simple Plan.
- 0:30Speaker 2: So are you excited to catch up?
- 0:31Speaker 1: And is there anyone else that you're really looking forward
- 0:33Speaker 1: to sharing the stage with?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Always excited to see Simple Plan. And I'm going to
- 0:37Speaker 4: be coming from Southeast Asia with Simple Plan. So we're
- 0:39Speaker 4: going to be really sick of each other. Never, never
- 0:42Speaker 4: sick of them. I'm excited to see Devil Wears Prada again,
- 0:45Speaker 4: because I have actually a song with them.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I did like a remix.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I sung on one of their songs and I didn't
- 0:51Speaker 4: actually get to meet them in that process. I just
- 0:54Speaker 4: recorded it in my bedroom and sent them the files.
- 0:57Speaker 4: But I have met them at another festival, but I'm
- 0:59Speaker 4: excited to hang out with them more.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And is there any kind of things that you've heard
- 1:05Speaker 1: about Australia that you're looking.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Forward to, like different to all the other festivals that
- 1:09Speaker 2: you've attended?
- 1:11Speaker 4: I mean, I've heard such amazing things about Australia that
- 1:13Speaker 4: it's literally the best place ever. I'm very looking forward
- 1:16Speaker 4: to the fact that it's going to be winter here
- 1:17Speaker 4: in Toronto and it's going to be summer there.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I'm looking forward to seeing kangaroos.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Somebody in an interview before told me I might not
- 1:25Speaker 4: want to hug a koala bear, but I was hoping
- 1:28Speaker 4: to do that. And I can tell you what I'm
- 1:30Speaker 4: not looking forward to. I have a deathly intensely fear
- 1:35Speaker 4: of spiders.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Oh no yeah look I'm gonna say break your heart
- 1:39Speaker 1: twice because koalas can be terrifying and spiders are everywhere
- 1:44Speaker 1: and particularly in summer so if you like spiders the
- 1:47Speaker 1: size of dinner plates you're in for a treat oh.
- 1:50Speaker 4: My god I think I actually might die or it
- 1:52Speaker 4: will be like it will just be like exactly what.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I need to get over my fear you know Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 3: I mean, they.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Can be friendly. They're probably just as scared of you,
- 2:01Speaker 2: if not more.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't.
- 2:06Speaker 2: No, please still get on the plane. We really want
- 2:08Speaker 2: to see you.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Oh, I'm coming.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I am coming.
- 2:10Speaker 1: All right, so you released earlier this year, God forbid
- 2:14Speaker 1: a girl spits out her feelings.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Now, the name is quite fitting because I feel like
- 2:19Speaker 1: I want to say old men, but old ladies can
- 2:21Speaker 1: be just as toxic and kind of say like, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 1: they don't know how to get their feelings out.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So, of course, the girl's doing that. Is it kind
- 2:28Speaker 2: of like a tongue in cheek, punch, beating him to
- 2:30Speaker 2: the punchline kind of name?
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it is.
- 2:33Speaker 4: I mean, basically when I was deciding on an album
- 2:36Speaker 4: name for my last album, I knew the name before
- 2:39Speaker 4: and I kind of wrote songs to do with that.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I had a whole vision.
- 2:42Speaker 4: And then for this album, it kind of was a
- 2:44Speaker 4: little bit of a rush at the end because I
- 2:47Speaker 4: had a vocal injury and then I wasn't able to
- 2:49Speaker 4: record all of the songs that I wanted to put
- 2:52Speaker 4: on it. And so I was looking at the album
- 2:55Speaker 4: and I was like, what should I call this? Like,
- 2:57Speaker 4: these are the songs that I am working with here
- 2:59Speaker 4: and I love them all, but I just wanted more
- 3:01Speaker 4: of them. Um, but I was looking, I was like, okay,
- 3:03Speaker 4: this is about a relationship. This is about a relationship.
- 3:06Speaker 4: This is about a relationship.
- 3:08Speaker 3: A breakup.
- 3:09Speaker 4: And I thought to myself, oh my God, I could
- 3:11Speaker 4: already see it. Everyone's being like, you only write about breakups.
- 3:13Speaker 4: You only write about heartbreak. And I wanted to write
- 3:16Speaker 4: about other stuff and it was on my list, but
- 3:18Speaker 4: then I had the vocal injury. And so I thought
- 3:20Speaker 4: to myself, oh, God forbid a girl spits out her feelings.
- 3:23Speaker 4: And just as I thought that I wrote it down,
- 3:27Speaker 4: I was like, wait, that would be an amazing title.
- 3:29Speaker 4: and an amazing first song on the album. And so
- 3:32Speaker 4: I quickly wrote the song and I recorded it, even
- 3:36Speaker 4: though I wasn't allowed to sing, but I did it anyways.
- 3:39Speaker 3: And that's how it came to be.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I love it. I think that's very clever.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And the front cover, is that Princess and the Pea moment?
- 3:53Speaker 4: I thought it was a good metaphor because the princess
- 3:56Speaker 4: and the pea, you know, she feels.
- 3:58Speaker 3: the tiniest pea under so many mattresses.
- 4:00Speaker 4: And I felt like it was a good metaphor for
- 4:02Speaker 4: being overly sensitive. Like I feel like I feel things
- 4:06Speaker 4: a lot harder, you know, than most people normally would.
- 4:11Speaker 4: And just like the princess and the pea, I could
- 4:13Speaker 4: feel the tiniest pea between, you know, I feel everything.
- 4:16Speaker 3: So I thought it was a cool metaphor.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's perfect.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Goes with the album name perfectly. And it's all the
- 4:22Speaker 1: drama about being a lady, you know.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And also the Punisher on there, I do really enjoy
- 4:29Speaker 1: because it's kind of like everybody has a little stalk and,
- 4:32Speaker 1: you know, has that side of them. No one wants
- 4:34Speaker 1: to talk about it, though. So I love that you've
- 4:36Speaker 1: just come out and gone, oh, well, this is what happens. Like,
- 4:39Speaker 1: has anyone else come to you and like given their
- 4:42Speaker 1: confessions about their little stalker moment?
- 4:45Speaker 4: No. As far as I know, I mean, other fans, yes,
- 4:50Speaker 4: have said that they Have all been like, oh my god,
- 4:53Speaker 4: I stalk my ex as well.
- 4:55Speaker 3: But no one's said that they stalk me. I've had
- 4:58Speaker 3: no ex come out and say that they stalk me.
- 5:01Speaker 3: You were the brave one. Yeah, I was the brave one.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I know they stalked me. I know you guys stalked
- 5:06Speaker 3: me if you're listening.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. Watch me flourish right now. Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You always seem to be busy because you've got a
- 5:14Speaker 1: pretty little wreck coming out really soon.
- 5:17Speaker 2: In a couple of days, yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Is there any little Easter eggs that we should be
- 5:22Speaker 1: looking out for or listening out for, for this release?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Or do you want to just let us interpret that?
- 5:29Speaker 3: I mean, it, this release will be part of a
- 5:32Speaker 3: bigger thing. I can say that. But for now, just
- 5:36Speaker 3: a single that I'm releasing and it's a.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Really fun one and I'm excited and definitely one that
- 5:42Speaker 4: I think I will have to play in Australia.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Oh, okay. That's an Easter egg.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So for your stardom you credited chad from newfound glory
- 5:54Speaker 2: for lurking your spotify and finding.
- 5:56Speaker 1: You and i love yeah would you say that that's
- 6:01Speaker 1: important to keep putting yourself out there and grinding and
- 6:04Speaker 1: taking every avenue because things like that can.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Happen yeah i mean he, he found me on a
- 6:10Speaker 4: Spotify playlist when he was looking for an opener for
- 6:13Speaker 4: tour and their tour was going to be called pop
- 6:15Speaker 4: punk's not dead. And the playlist on Spotify was called pop.
- 6:18Speaker 4: So he typed it in and I was like one
- 6:20Speaker 4: of the first people on the playlist and he clicked
- 6:22Speaker 4: it and he was like, yep, her, I want her.
- 6:25Speaker 3: And, uh, thank God for that. Cause it really kickstarted everything.
- 6:29Speaker 4: And I, I mean, yeah, the more you put yourself
- 6:31Speaker 4: out there, the more that there, there will be opportunity
- 6:34Speaker 4: to be on those playlists or on, you know, as,
- 6:38Speaker 4: the more you release and the more you do, I
- 6:40Speaker 4: think the more people are aware of you and it
- 6:42Speaker 4: made him aware of me.
- 6:43Speaker 3: So I'm so thankful for that every day.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 2: That's just perfect. It was like meant to be like
- 6:49Speaker 2: the title.
- 6:50Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 6:51Speaker 2: So good.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So you've mentioned having quite an eclectic, um, like music background.
- 6:58Speaker 1: So things that influenced you growing up, what's two CDs
- 7:02Speaker 1: in your collection currently that would be side by side
- 7:04Speaker 1: that are kind of like a a crazy mashup that
- 7:07Speaker 1: no one would think that would be together.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Oh, American Idiot by Green Day and Metamorphosis by Hilary Duff.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Oh, that is perfect. That's you in a nutshell. That's
- 7:20Speaker 2: literally me in a nutshell.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Like, that is me.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Oh, how good. So talking about your fans, has there
- 7:28Speaker 2: been a moment that's been very humbling or moving at
- 7:31Speaker 2: something that they've given to you that you haven't necessarily
- 7:34Speaker 2: thought about before that, you know, there's something you hold
- 7:37Speaker 2: dear to your heart?
- 7:38Speaker 4: Well, it's funny because part of why I started kind
- 7:43Speaker 4: of writing more without filtering myself and not being so
- 7:47Speaker 4: ashamed of my own emotions and being oversensitive and stuff.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I mean, I used to be really I used to
- 7:53Speaker 4: be asking myself, oh, why am I so sensitive? Why
- 7:55Speaker 4: do I feel things so hard?
- 7:56Speaker 3: Why do I do this? And I was like ashamed
- 7:58Speaker 3: of it.
- 7:58Speaker 4: I mean, I wrote a whole album called Falling for
- 8:01Speaker 4: Robots and wishing I was one because I wish that
- 8:03Speaker 4: I could just shut off the emotions and forget about everything.
- 8:07Speaker 4: But then when I was touring that album and I
- 8:10Speaker 4: would be on stage and I'd be singing those songs
- 8:13Speaker 4: and I would look out into the crowd and I
- 8:14Speaker 4: would see all the listeners there. And they would be
- 8:17Speaker 4: screaming the lyrics or crying or laughing, you know, and
- 8:20Speaker 4: really feeling the exact same things that I was feeling
- 8:23Speaker 4: when I was going through those songs.
- 8:24Speaker 3: And that's when I realized, like, oh, my God, I
- 8:26Speaker 3: don't wish I was a robot.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Like, wait, this is so beautiful that we're all human
- 8:30Speaker 4: and that we all get to feel these things together.
- 8:32Speaker 3: And that's kind of when I stopped being ashamed of
- 8:34Speaker 3: my feelings.
- 8:35Speaker 4: So I feel like my fans really taught me that,
- 8:38Speaker 4: which was such a huge thing. And then I went
- 8:40Speaker 4: from wishing I was a robot to spitting out all
- 8:43Speaker 4: my feelings. Yeah. It's all due to them. So they
- 8:46Speaker 4: really help that light bulb form above my head.
- 8:48Speaker 1: That's really cool to hear, because I think as young ladies,
- 8:52Speaker 1: we are taught to hush hush your feelings or not
- 8:56Speaker 1: to be overdramatic or overshare or any kind of emotion
- 8:59Speaker 1: that comes out of us is always like taken in
- 9:01Speaker 1: such a huge way. So it's nice to hear that
- 9:04Speaker 1: you've gone through those lessons. And but do you still
- 9:07Speaker 1: feel that way? Do you still feel like you don't
- 9:09Speaker 1: want to get or you still feel.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Funny, like getting those emotions out like you should be quiet?
- 9:14Speaker 4: Honestly, I mean, no, I feel pretty like I've been,
- 9:19Speaker 4: I think I've embraced the feeling everything very hard thing
- 9:24Speaker 4: a lot recently, you know, the last year anyway. I
- 9:27Speaker 4: think I'm definitely embracing it now. I don't think I'm,
- 9:29Speaker 4: I'm not wishing to be a robot anymore. No.
- 9:31Speaker 2: No, that part of you is over. Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 1: So I know growing up for me, to get my
- 9:39Speaker 1: feelings out, I had a diary, which I'm sure you
- 9:40Speaker 1: did as well, which was one of those weird little
- 9:42Speaker 1: voice-activated ones where you have to say your password.
- 9:45Speaker 2: And if someone had a little alarm on it, like
- 9:49Speaker 2: super geeky, loved it. Would you say that this is
- 9:53Speaker 2: now your media diary?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Instead of writing it down in that way, you actually
- 9:58Speaker 1: are documenting it through your experiences?
- 10:00Speaker 4: And your music a hundred percent that's exactly what it
- 10:03Speaker 4: is like I used to just fully write it down
- 10:06Speaker 4: and I would actually rip it up into little pieces
- 10:08Speaker 4: because I was so scared of anyone reading my diary
- 10:11Speaker 4: which is very ironic because now I just blasted across
- 10:14Speaker 4: the air when I was like I put it all over.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Spotify and Apple Music and all of those.
- 10:20Speaker 4: And I think younger me would look at current me
- 10:23Speaker 4: and be very embarrassed.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Or proud.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Like I think it's, you know, it takes a lot
- 10:30Speaker 1: to do that. And you found your community in doing
- 10:32Speaker 1: that too. So it's not like, you know, there's a
- 10:34Speaker 1: lot of people who relate to that and connect with you.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So I should be very proud.
- 10:41Speaker 4: All right.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So are there any myths that I can, are there
- 10:45Speaker 1: any myths that I can bust for you about Australia?
- 10:48Speaker 2: Is there anything that you've heard that you're like, I
- 10:49Speaker 2: really don't know if that's true or not?
- 10:52Speaker 4: Well, so in a couple of interviews that I've had
- 10:55Speaker 4: in the last hour, they were like, what are you
- 10:57Speaker 4: looking forward to?
- 10:58Speaker 3: And I'm like holding a koala bear. And they're like, no,
- 11:02Speaker 3: you don't want to do that. Is that true?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Yes, it can be. I mean, I'll let you look
- 11:08Speaker 2: up what kind of diseases they have. It's interesting.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Are they biting people?
- 11:13Speaker 2: They can bite people, yes.
- 11:15Speaker 1: They're not all cuddly, but they kind of get lucid
- 11:18Speaker 1: off of chewing their gum nuts and their gum leaves.
- 11:22Speaker 2: So it depends on the koala. I'll leave it with that,
- 11:26Speaker 2: I guess.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I think I need to hug one. Like, I don't
- 11:29Speaker 3: know how I can do that.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Kangaroos are far more scarier, I'll say that.
- 11:33Speaker 3: They're scary?
- 11:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Yeah, just to add to your list, yeah, kangaroos can
- 11:38Speaker 2: not really... Okay, so now we have.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Spiders, koala bears, and kangaroos. Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 4: But, yeah, no.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I think they'll go into your kind nature, and they
- 11:48Speaker 2: should be nice to you. We're putting it out there.
- 11:51Speaker 2: We are. Yeah. Oh, all right, Lolo. It was really
- 11:56Speaker 2: nice to chat with you.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You were awesome, and we are looking forward to seeing
- 12:00Speaker 1: you finally in Australia.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Can't wait. It's all right.
