- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Brooks and then going going back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm good,
- 0:25Speaker 2: I'm good. I uh, you know, had another another night
- 0:29Speaker 2: at the studio last night doing Game Day highlights in
- 0:31Speaker 2: Game Day Final, which is kind of interesting because you
- 0:35Speaker 2: do kind of get to sit and take it all
- 0:37Speaker 2: in a little bit more then let's say when I'm
- 0:39Speaker 2: on Game Day Live and you know, kind of subject
- 0:42Speaker 2: My thoughts about the game were kind of subject to
- 0:45Speaker 2: the highlights that we end up showing, because a lot
- 0:47Speaker 2: of times to go back and watch the watch the
- 0:49Speaker 2: tape the next day and you're like, whoa this, we
- 0:51Speaker 2: didn't show this. So it's kind of good to kind
- 0:53Speaker 2: of get a broader sense of what's happening with all
- 0:56Speaker 2: the games. But uh, but yeah, yeah, it was pretty good.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Sunday, no doubt, We're going to go through eight games
- 1:02Speaker 1: that we dialed in on and touch on a couple
- 1:04Speaker 1: of the other ones at the end. But I'll start
- 1:06Speaker 1: as I always do, with the game I was at,
- 1:08Speaker 1: which is a theme that we have each and every
- 1:11Speaker 1: week with the Chargers. I say it, it doesn't matter
- 1:13Speaker 1: if they're playing the best team in the league, the
- 1:15Speaker 1: worst team in the league. It doesn't matter if they're
- 1:16Speaker 1: up thirty down thirty. You know it's going to come
- 1:18Speaker 1: down to the last possession of the game. And here
- 1:20Speaker 1: we are once again. They run out to a twenty
- 1:23Speaker 1: four to seven lead, the Raiders starting Aidan O'Connell, who
- 1:26Speaker 1: will get to in a minute, making his first start.
- 1:29Speaker 1: It just looked like everything was kind of going their
- 1:31Speaker 1: way and then all of a sudden, now you've got
- 1:33Speaker 1: you know, you've you've got an offense it's stalled out.
- 1:36Speaker 1: You've got a defense that is allowed a young quarterback
- 1:39Speaker 1: kind of find his rhythm and work with DeVante Adams
- 1:41Speaker 1: and get them back in the ballgame. You have once again,
- 1:44Speaker 1: which I know I'll let you get to on the
- 1:46Speaker 1: on the coaching decision to go for it deep in
- 1:48Speaker 1: your territory, something that Brandon Staley's done. A bunch of
- 1:52Speaker 1: all the complaints last week were about a you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: the play call, not the decision. So they do what
- 1:57Speaker 1: everybody thought they should have done last week and that
- 2:00Speaker 1: doesn't work. We'll get to all of it, but my biggest,
- 2:03Speaker 1: my biggest takeaway from this game was it gets lost
- 2:09Speaker 1: the fact that the Raiders are playing a backup, but
- 2:11Speaker 1: this is a Chargers team. Mike Williams, you lose him
- 2:14Speaker 1: for the year. Corey Linsley is on IR. We don't
- 2:16Speaker 1: know if he's going to come back or not. You're
- 2:18Speaker 1: missing Joey Bosa, You're missing Derwin James, You're missing a
- 2:21Speaker 1: Lowe Gilman, You're missing j T. Woods. They're missing their
- 2:23Speaker 1: top three safeties. They're missing their best edge rusher and
- 2:26Speaker 1: Joey Bosa. They're missing their defensive captain in Derwin's I mean,
- 2:30Speaker 1: there was a lot of guys out of the lineup.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It looked like Rashaun Slater was kind of playing through
- 2:34Speaker 1: something he didn't like. He was one hundred percent healthy. Yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 1: they won a game, So at the end of the day,
- 2:39Speaker 1: style points don't really matter. You found a way you
- 2:41Speaker 1: won a game without a lot of guys, and the
- 2:43Speaker 1: buy comes for them right now. They're going to be
- 2:45Speaker 1: able to come back after the buy a Monday nighter
- 2:48Speaker 1: at home against Dallas, which should be a lot of fun.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's exciting, you know, to kind of understand how
- 2:55Speaker 2: shorthanded you were, and then to also see some of
- 2:58Speaker 2: your guys you know who were there step up, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: like Khalil Mack, you know as your vintage from like
- 3:05Speaker 2: I don't know, five years ago, Khalil Mack type of
- 3:08Speaker 2: performance where he was just unblockable. Now again, as you mentioned,
- 3:11Speaker 2: it helped set you add a rookie quarterback who was
- 3:13Speaker 2: still trying to assess things and work through progressions and
- 3:17Speaker 2: maybe just a little a couple of beats slow on
- 3:20Speaker 2: getting that ball out of his hands.
- 3:22Speaker 1: At one point in time. At one point time, right,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I did say during the broadcast, does he know this
- 3:26Speaker 1: is not Marshall. You're not at Purdue, and this is
- 3:28Speaker 1: you're not playing like a non league game against Marshall here,
- 3:31Speaker 1: Like he has just settled in there, Pat Pat Pat
- 3:34Speaker 1: Pat sack fumble? Uh, just the clock. It took him
- 3:37Speaker 1: a minute to get up to speed.
- 3:39Speaker 2: It did. Now, he made some good throws in this game,
- 3:41Speaker 2: like the throat of DeVante. Did you know on that
- 3:44Speaker 2: what was that that third down down inside the ten
- 3:47Speaker 2: to give him an opportunity there? You know, he made
- 3:49Speaker 2: some He made some plays in the game, for sure.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I mean the first drive was nice, right, but you know,
- 3:54Speaker 2: drop back and throw the ball thirty nine times, you
- 3:56Speaker 2: know in your first start, you know, as a rookie.
- 3:58Speaker 2: It's asking a lot of it, but you know, game
- 4:01Speaker 2: kind of dictated it. They were down, you know, quite
- 4:03Speaker 2: a bit. Okay, So I'll get to I'll get to
- 4:07Speaker 2: the point here on Khalil and Aidan O'Connell, and we'll
- 4:12Speaker 2: kind of we'll kind of get in there a little
- 4:13Speaker 2: bit because you know, I think we liked a lot
- 4:16Speaker 2: of what we saw in the preseason for Aiden O'Connell,
- 4:19Speaker 2: but you know, you got to take into consideration what
- 4:22Speaker 2: was he going up against, you know, a little bit
- 4:24Speaker 2: more of vanilla on both sides of the ball. Things
- 4:27Speaker 2: were a little bit simpler, and you know, you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: he's got the accuracy and so that that's kind of
- 4:32Speaker 2: what that's kind of his deal. But he's not really athletic,
- 4:35Speaker 2: and so when you're holding the ball for too well,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you are a sitting duck back there. And obviously Khalil Mack,
- 4:39Speaker 2: who talked to Melanie Collins on the CBS broadcast afterwards,
- 4:42Speaker 2: was like, yeah, Number four was holding it a little bit,
- 4:45Speaker 2: and so they really got after him there. I mean,
- 4:48Speaker 2: they were seeing that and he was clearly teeing off
- 4:50Speaker 2: and feasting on it. So that was just kind of
- 4:53Speaker 2: like a that was a confluence of events there, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: a young quarterback trying to find his way, and then
- 4:59Speaker 2: Khalil Mack playing, you know, like the All Pro that
- 5:02Speaker 2: he has been in his career.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple other things on top of that. Number one,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'd just as soon to see Aidan O'Connell the rest
- 5:08Speaker 1: of the year for the Raiders. What are we doing here?
- 5:10Speaker 1: This team is not good. This team has three players.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Like when you look at him and you're getting ready
- 5:14Speaker 1: for this game, I mean we'll start in the sad tight.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I think that Jermaine Illuminor is not an NFL starting
- 5:19Speaker 1: right tackle. And he got warning. I knew coming into
- 5:21Speaker 1: the game. I said, Tuley Plow two and Khalil Mack
- 5:24Speaker 1: are gonna be fighting each other to see who gets
- 5:25Speaker 1: to rush over that side, and they got him for
- 5:27Speaker 1: six sacks. But you look at the team, Max Crosby,
- 5:30Speaker 1: elite player, Davante Adams, obviously elite player. Josh Jacobs is
- 5:33Speaker 1: a really really good player. They have three guys. That's it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I mean, this roster is not good. It's in bad shape.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And at this point time, Jimmy Garoppolo is not your future,
- 5:44Speaker 1: so you might as well just see what you have
- 5:45Speaker 1: in the rookie here. Let Aidan O'Connell play. He got
- 5:48Speaker 1: better as the game went along. He was able to
- 5:50Speaker 1: adjust to the speed he sped his clock up. You
- 5:52Speaker 1: mentioned that deep out he hit the Devonte Adams. Yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 1: that was a really nice ball. He had a couple
- 5:56Speaker 1: of deep balls that were good throws. Obviously, the costly
- 5:59Speaker 1: pick there at the end, uh to a Santa Samwich
- 6:01Speaker 1: just sitting there in a trap. But again that I
- 6:03Speaker 1: put that more on the play caller than I do
- 6:05Speaker 1: on him. Your first and goal with the four run
- 6:07Speaker 1: the ball four times and tie the game? What are
- 6:08Speaker 1: you doing?
- 6:09Speaker 2: He's also not really a sprint right player to me? No, no,
- 6:13Speaker 2: you know what I mean. No, you know, I get it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I get it. I guess you know you don't want
- 6:18Speaker 2: to you want to change up too much of what
- 6:19Speaker 2: you do. But man, that's yeah, that's a tough one. Obviously,
- 6:22Speaker 2: didn't see Sante, I don't. I don't know how much
- 6:24Speaker 2: of this you're able to see that? Did you see
- 6:26Speaker 2: the tillery uh last on the sideline? I mean, what
- 6:29Speaker 2: do you what are you? What are we doing? Not?
- 6:30Speaker 1: Come on, man, I mean we kind of we viscerrated
- 6:33Speaker 1: him on the broadcast. I mean, obviously it's a Chargers broadcast.
- 6:36Speaker 1: He's a former Charger player. Didn't end well there, It
- 6:39Speaker 1: was such an over the top He's going to get
- 6:41Speaker 1: a huge fine on that thing. And just and you
- 6:43Speaker 1: can see that, what tells you everything about that replay?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Watch it in slow motion and watch Max Crosby, who's
- 6:49Speaker 1: the only other Raider saw too. He just puts his
- 6:52Speaker 1: hands up like just like, what are you doing? Just
- 6:55Speaker 1: a dumb, dumb play. But anyways, the Chargers they get
- 6:58Speaker 1: a win without all those guys. I think they come
- 6:59Speaker 1: out bye. I think you probably have Eckler back, you
- 7:02Speaker 1: probably have Doing back, you probably have Bosa back. So
- 7:05Speaker 1: the reinforcement's coming for them. And I look in an
- 7:07Speaker 1: AFC where everything's kind of jumbled up. They're sitting at
- 7:09Speaker 1: two and two, kind of right in the middle of
- 7:11Speaker 1: this whole thing. The next game on the list is
- 7:13Speaker 1: one for you RHTT and that is the Rams and
- 7:15Speaker 1: the Colts, and maybe with one of the more entertaining
- 7:17Speaker 1: games of the whole weekend.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Well wait, hang on one second, just just to quickly
- 7:22Speaker 2: go back on the on the fourth and one.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, we didn't do that go ahead.
- 7:26Speaker 2: We didn't. We didn't get to that. So nobody gets
- 7:28Speaker 2: delta twelve. Nobody gets delta twelve more versus the two
- 7:31Speaker 2: than Brandon Staley, and he's going to go for he Look,
- 7:34Speaker 2: you got to appreciate the consistency, Right, He's going to
- 7:36Speaker 2: keep going for He's going to keep doing it. You
- 7:39Speaker 2: know at some point, you know, you felt like at
- 7:42Speaker 2: that point with the the bum finger and hand, maybe.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That wasn't the time for the QB sneak, Like you're
- 7:48Speaker 1: worried about ball security there. He wasn't good on the
- 7:51Speaker 1: QB sneak earlier in the game either, right, was not great.
- 7:55Speaker 2: So I wonder if the lack of success in those
- 7:57Speaker 2: situations then has to factor into the analytics side of it, Right,
- 8:01Speaker 2: do you have to plug that data in and say that, hey, look,
- 8:03Speaker 2: we just haven't been good in these situations. Maybe even
- 8:06Speaker 2: though the win percentage is up there, in terms of
- 8:08Speaker 2: the situation, maybe it's not the best situation for us.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I mean, like, does that factor in in your opinion?
- 8:14Speaker 2: So we talked to him after the game and he
- 8:16Speaker 2: was obviously he was in good mood. It was a
- 8:18Speaker 2: big win, and we brought this up towards the end
- 8:20Speaker 2: of the conversation, and it was almost he was almost
- 8:24Speaker 2: exasperated because I'm sure he just got grilled by the
- 8:27Speaker 2: media and before he came to us on the radio
- 8:29Speaker 2: side of things, and he just said, look, at some
- 8:34Speaker 2: point time, our guy's got to make a dank play.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I mean, I'll keep answering these questions, but at some
- 8:38Speaker 2: point time, like we're giving you the opportunity here, we
- 8:42Speaker 2: make a play. And the interesting thing is, if you
- 8:44Speaker 2: look back on it, last year against Cleveland, didn't get it.
- 8:48Speaker 1: They didn't lose the game. This year, last week they
- 8:51Speaker 1: don't get it. They win the game. This week, they
- 8:54Speaker 1: don't get it, they win.
- 8:55Speaker 2: The game game.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Everybody can point to the Raider elimination game where they
- 8:58Speaker 1: went for it. I big on their own eight team,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but that wasn't the deciding factor in the game. There
- 9:03Speaker 1: was a lot of game left that, you know, you
- 9:04Speaker 1: go into overtime, it didn't end up being the nail
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the coffin, so to speak. So in some ways,
- 9:09Speaker 1: their team, even though you're not getting it, the defenses,
- 9:13Speaker 1: you know, has responded and stayed alive in these games
- 9:16Speaker 1: and they've been able to hold on. But He was
- 9:18Speaker 1: almost exasperated with the word like, guys, come on, come on,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I won't have to answer these questions. If you just
- 9:22Speaker 1: get me a stinking yard. Can we get a yard
- 9:24Speaker 1: and finish the game?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think you can understand it from
- 9:28Speaker 2: that point of view, But you're also down your starting
- 9:31Speaker 2: center and your quarterback is a little bit banged up,
- 9:34Speaker 2: and you're wondering, you know, how much does all that
- 9:36Speaker 2: way in to the decision making fact process, And so
- 9:39Speaker 2: we'll see, my guess is not that much moving forward,
- 9:42Speaker 2: and we're still going to see those types of calls,
- 9:45Speaker 2: all right.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You know, I don't think I don't think that's going
- 9:46Speaker 1: to change. So yeah, that's it.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Rams and Colts. This was an otique game. This
- 9:51Speaker 2: is a game though that the Rams looked like they
- 9:53Speaker 2: were going to run away with early. We jump out
- 9:56Speaker 2: to a fourteen to nothing, leather up twenty three to
- 9:58Speaker 2: nothing in the second half and into the fourth quarter.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I mean, it's a two score ball game. And Anthony
- 10:04Speaker 2: Richardson starts to catch fire a little bit. And so
- 10:08Speaker 2: I'll start with with Richardson on the comeback, and then
- 10:11Speaker 2: we'll get to my favorite part of the game, right
- 10:13Speaker 2: I thought he had really good poison in the pocket
- 10:15Speaker 2: in the in the fourth quarter in this game. That's
- 10:17Speaker 2: what I really went and watched. He had deep shot
- 10:19Speaker 2: play to let Pierce go up and make one. He
- 10:21Speaker 2: showed some off platform arm strength that you love from him.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He was on time and some tight window throws to
- 10:27Speaker 2: drew ogle Tree down when they really needed it. Well
- 10:29Speaker 2: placed out route dropped in on the third and four.
- 10:32Speaker 2: The fourth and four I thought was really good down
- 10:34Speaker 2: the stretch because he kept his eyes downfield as he
- 10:36Speaker 2: was drifting out of the pocket. I think a lot
- 10:38Speaker 2: of times you see a player with that kind of
- 10:39Speaker 2: ability look to run. He was looking to make the
- 10:42Speaker 2: play down the field. Thought that was really cool. Doesn't
- 10:45Speaker 2: get fully around enough, but man his like fully like
- 10:48Speaker 2: didn't get his hips fully square to the line, but
- 10:51Speaker 2: with an arm, with an arm like that, I mean,
- 10:53Speaker 2: it's just it's like cheating. And so he was able
- 10:56Speaker 2: to get another big completion at ogle Tree there. So
- 10:57Speaker 2: I thought Richardson did a great job figure out what
- 11:00Speaker 2: went wrong first couple of quarters, turning it around and
- 11:03Speaker 2: then giving his team and a chance to win the
- 11:04Speaker 2: game in overtime. Now, Hooka Nakua.
- 11:10Speaker 1: What by the way, who drafted him last week.
- 11:13Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, you're you're yeah, you joined the party.
- 11:16Speaker 2: What we'll call you this, You're like, you're like Schrager
- 11:19Speaker 2: on the Cooper Cup bandwagon. Just a little bit late, Okay, okay,
- 11:22Speaker 2: it started earlier over here, just getting shrigs. So hookah
- 11:28Speaker 2: ten h ten targets, nine catches. I mean, he's just
- 11:31Speaker 2: he's got such a great rhythm right now with Matthew Stafford,
- 11:34Speaker 2: like so much so that he ran a deep in
- 11:37Speaker 2: on his first catch of the game. I don't even
- 11:39Speaker 2: think he should have been the red, but Stafford just
- 11:42Speaker 2: wanted that throw and wanted to hit him, and it
- 11:44Speaker 2: actually ball gets he tips it up to himself, ends
- 11:47Speaker 2: up catching it. Almost all of his routes and all
- 11:51Speaker 2: of his targets are coming off deep ore in cuts, right,
- 11:54Speaker 2: they're digs, they're you know, an over route. Now he
- 11:57Speaker 2: did ever, actually his nicest his best route of the
- 11:59Speaker 2: day was it was a deep out. But he just
- 12:02Speaker 2: finds a way to get open in the middle of
- 12:04Speaker 2: the field, and Stafford trusts the heck out of him,
- 12:07Speaker 2: and so does Sean McVay. I think that's that says
- 12:09Speaker 2: something about rookie receiver man.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Red, it's been it's been fun, just the way
- 12:14Speaker 1: Pokin Nikua haz just jumped in and just continues to improve,
- 12:16Speaker 1: continues to be, like you said, the focal point of
- 12:18Speaker 1: the offense, which is pretty insane. Maybe the co focal
- 12:21Speaker 1: point because in this game, Kien Williams had a really
- 12:23Speaker 1: nice game. You look at the stat line, twenty five
- 12:26Speaker 1: for a bucko, three on the ground, two touchdowns, caught
- 12:28Speaker 1: three balls for twenty four yards. So I always like
- 12:31Speaker 1: to go back and see what the pre draft stuff
- 12:33Speaker 1: was on these guys as they're starting to really pop
- 12:35Speaker 1: and come together. So you go back to the twenty
- 12:37Speaker 1: twenty two draft. He was a little over five to nine,
- 12:40Speaker 1: one hundred and ninety four pounds. He ran four sixty five,
- 12:43Speaker 1: so he did not run well. I think that was
- 12:46Speaker 1: a little bit of a surpriser and knocked him down
- 12:48Speaker 1: the board a little bit. But when I look at
- 12:49Speaker 1: my notes, patient stop start quicks, he's a ninety one
- 12:53Speaker 1: yard touchdown versus North Carolina. If you question the speed
- 12:56Speaker 1: he can sink in squad and pass pro, he's excellent
- 12:59Speaker 1: in the pass game slots. They'll use him in the
- 13:01Speaker 1: slot angle routes. Exceptional my comp form. I said that
- 13:05Speaker 1: when I watched him, I thought he reminded me a
- 13:07Speaker 1: little bit of Aaron Jones. And you see a game
- 13:11Speaker 1: like this and to me, I go, okay, yeah, I did,
- 13:13Speaker 1: I see a little bit of that. So it's interesting
- 13:14Speaker 1: when you go back and look at the pre draft
- 13:15Speaker 1: stuff and then you know it's just getting opportunities and
- 13:18Speaker 1: now you're seeing him really run with that literally.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, no kidding, and it makes it makes you feel,
- 13:24Speaker 2: you know, like the Rams dow what they were doing
- 13:25Speaker 2: and sending cam Akers on their way, and they knew
- 13:27Speaker 2: they had a young player they wanted to get more reps.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And he's done a nice job in the RB one role.
- 13:32Speaker 2: By the way, I'll go back and and you look
- 13:34Speaker 2: at the last play of the game, which was Hookah's
- 13:37Speaker 2: first career touchdown ends up being the walk off winner. Man,
- 13:40Speaker 2: it's a tough deal, right. They go there lined up
- 13:42Speaker 2: in a bunch. Look, two guys end up going with
- 13:45Speaker 2: ben'skronic on the just flat on the out route and
- 13:48Speaker 2: you can see Kenny Moore he goes like this to
- 13:51Speaker 2: kind of switch it as the play is developing. The
- 13:54Speaker 2: other guy didn't get the signal and so it is
- 13:57Speaker 2: too late at that point and pooka wide open and
- 13:59Speaker 2: then it is a nice job to get into the
- 14:00Speaker 2: end zone. But again, he is a heck of a player.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Well, speaking of heck of a player, I know the
- 14:05Speaker 1: numbers don't blow you away in terms of the efficiency.
- 14:08Speaker 1: That's not the type of quarterback Anthony Richison needs to be.
- 14:10Speaker 1: He doesn't need to be a seventy percent passer to
- 14:12Speaker 1: put their team position to win games. He's hit some
- 14:15Speaker 1: explosives which they were able to do, finished drives which
- 14:18Speaker 1: he was able to do, and then and sprinkle in
- 14:20Speaker 1: the run which he's done. So that's the formula. That's
- 14:23Speaker 1: the type of player you have. Hopefully grows into being
- 14:25Speaker 1: a more efficient guy. But he didn't need to be
- 14:27Speaker 1: for you to win games. And it's gonna be fun.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I said in the beginning of the year when I
- 14:30Speaker 1: went out there, I said, I don't know how many
- 14:31Speaker 1: games this team's gonna win. It's gonna be a good watch.
- 14:33Speaker 1: It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun to watch
- 14:35Speaker 1: Anthony and Richardson continue to grow and develop. He's he's
- 14:38Speaker 1: somebody they can build around, and I don't think they
- 14:40Speaker 1: need to keep looking, I think they found their guy.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I would agree. I mean, like I said,
- 14:44Speaker 2: I thought he did a really nice job in the
- 14:45Speaker 2: fourth quarter when they're down their backs against the wall,
- 14:48Speaker 2: and he just finds a way a bunch of different times.
- 14:51Speaker 2: So that was that was definitely impressive.
- 14:54Speaker 1: All let's get to the next one here the Eagles,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and speaking overtimes, another overtime game. They beat the Commanders
- 14:59Speaker 1: third thirty four to thirty one. I want to start
- 15:02Speaker 1: on the Commander's side of things, and then we'll get
- 15:03Speaker 1: over to the Eagles here in a second. But I
- 15:05Speaker 1: had fun going back and watching Sam Howell in this ballgame.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Things that stood out to me the poise, the suddenness
- 15:13Speaker 1: to be able to escape when he had to against
- 15:16Speaker 1: one of the best pass rushes in the NFL. We'll
- 15:19Speaker 1: get to their pass rush here in a minute. Full
- 15:21Speaker 1: field reads, working all the way across the field, getting
- 15:23Speaker 1: through progressions. I thought the instincts were excellent, throwing guys open.
- 15:27Speaker 1: No greater example than the touchdown to send the games
- 15:30Speaker 1: into overtime. Yeah yeah, it was a big time, big
- 15:33Speaker 1: time throwers. Threw them away from a defender. You say, okay,
- 15:36Speaker 1: was kind of hard to tell is this kind of
- 15:38Speaker 1: a kind of elongated whip route or is it a
- 15:40Speaker 1: back shoulder throw. All I know is he sees defender
- 15:42Speaker 1: on one side and threw away from him and just
- 15:44Speaker 1: to allow your guy to have a chance. But he
- 15:47Speaker 1: made several throws like that, throwing guys away from traffic,
- 15:50Speaker 1: away from trouble, climbing up in the pocket, extending plays,
- 15:53Speaker 1: taking off when he needed to. I was impressed. I
- 15:56Speaker 1: was really impressed with what I've seen from Sam Howell,
- 15:59Speaker 1: especially in this ball game. And then on the other
- 16:01Speaker 1: side of things, you know that Eagles defense. Yeah, look,
- 16:05Speaker 1: they gave up some plays. Washington gut you get thirty points,
- 16:08Speaker 1: you know, thirty one points. You know, it's not something
- 16:10Speaker 1: you're gonna be happy with. But there's some wrinkle with
- 16:11Speaker 1: the Eagles that they're adding to their mix. Their pass
- 16:15Speaker 1: rush shows so much attention with their front four there,
- 16:17Speaker 1: so they they started bringing up the linebackers. A couple
- 16:20Speaker 1: of times they double mugged, so they get on the
- 16:22Speaker 1: center with two linebackers. Then they also had kind of
- 16:25Speaker 1: a delayed rush with a linebacker because everybody's get everything's
- 16:28Speaker 1: getting fanned out. It's creating some seams and their edge
- 16:31Speaker 1: rushers are just coming off the ball so hard and
- 16:34Speaker 1: it's going to force it's going to force a really
- 16:36Speaker 1: really dramatic climb in the pocket with these guys because
- 16:40Speaker 1: you're getting an edge rush that's collapsing. Jalen Carter and
- 16:43Speaker 1: Fletcher Cox in there are getting upfield. So it's a
- 16:46Speaker 1: real quick movement and what you're seeing is they're saying, Okay,
- 16:48Speaker 1: it's like a trap. They're almost setting a trap for
- 16:50Speaker 1: a mouse, and the linebackers just closing up there and finishing.
- 16:53Speaker 1: That's when they got all. I think they had three
- 16:54Speaker 1: linebacker sacks in this game.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Yeah, defenses roll and when they needed to be. And
- 17:00Speaker 2: so the other thing that really impressed me, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 2: is watching AJ Brown go to work on a young
- 17:06Speaker 2: corner right in Emmanuel Forbes on those two touchdowns. Look,
- 17:09Speaker 2: Manuel Forbes is gonna have a bright future in this league.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I think we all kind of we've seen flashes of
- 17:13Speaker 2: that already this season. And obviously we know when he
- 17:16Speaker 2: gets his hands on the football, you know he can.
- 17:17Speaker 2: That's an egg bowl that is old miss Mississippi State
- 17:21Speaker 2: right there, and AJ Brown showed him all right, still
- 17:24Speaker 2: some work to do here, kid, because he got him
- 17:27Speaker 2: a couple of times, and those were two huge plays
- 17:29Speaker 2: in the game. You know, those touchdowns that Jalen hurts again.
- 17:32Speaker 2: He is so good. He has gotten so much better
- 17:34Speaker 2: on that deep ball accuracy too. As he's he's continued
- 17:38Speaker 2: to go on. So I thought that was going to
- 17:40Speaker 2: look when the Eagles needed it, they go to a
- 17:42Speaker 2: guy like aj Brown. Not everybody can do that in
- 17:44Speaker 2: the league.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, I'll just add this about the Eagles.
- 17:49Speaker 1: This is where I'm curious to see this collision course
- 17:52Speaker 1: they're on with the forty nine ers. We said it
- 17:53Speaker 1: before the season, it feels that way now as well.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I don't think that they're going to get the style
- 17:59Speaker 1: points at the four Anders are going to get on
- 18:01Speaker 1: their way to that meeting. But this is a team
- 18:04Speaker 1: that's just checking off win after win after win after win.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's not always pretty, it's close. They understand how to
- 18:09Speaker 1: win close games. But when we compare those two rosters
- 18:12Speaker 1: and those two teams, I think that Philly is a
- 18:15Speaker 1: little deeper than San Francisco. I think if they show
- 18:19Speaker 1: up in all twenty two starters for both teams are healthy,
- 18:21Speaker 1: and that's what we see in the postseason. Okay, maybe
- 18:24Speaker 1: you can make a case. Maybe I lean a little
- 18:26Speaker 1: towards San Francisco. It's close. It's a toss up, But
- 18:29Speaker 1: I think when you see the attrition that's going to
- 18:31Speaker 1: take place over the year, I think the Eagles are
- 18:33Speaker 1: better positioned to kind of manage their way through that
- 18:35Speaker 1: just because of the sheer depth they have.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I was actually just a little bit
- 18:40Speaker 2: surprised though, at kind of how well, at least, you know,
- 18:44Speaker 2: for the most part, the Washington offensive line held up.
- 18:47Speaker 2: You know, I didn't think that they were completely blown
- 18:49Speaker 2: out of the water in this game, and that this
- 18:51Speaker 2: is not the league's best offensive line. But you know,
- 18:55Speaker 2: as we mentioned, you got the second level got active.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Think they've still got five sacks, and they got five sacks.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so, but I mean they hung in there and
- 19:03Speaker 1: they look I mean, the quarterback gives him a chit,
- 19:05Speaker 1: the quarterback gives him a chance to That was me,
- 19:08Speaker 1: to me, the biggest takeaway from this game. If you're
- 19:09Speaker 1: gonna say, oh, you know, kind of play this out,
- 19:11Speaker 1: what's the biggest long term impact of watching this game
- 19:14Speaker 1: on tape? It was like, holy crap, Sam Howe is
- 19:17Speaker 1: pretty good man. This is not This is not like, hey,
- 19:19Speaker 1: that's a good game, like this is a good player,
- 19:22Speaker 1: this is a quality starting NFL quarterback. They can build
- 19:24Speaker 1: around him.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Well, and just look at the week to week comparison
- 19:28Speaker 2: here of what did Sam Howl has faced right that.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I think we're seeing that Bill's defense pretty really good,
- 19:35Speaker 2: really right. You know, he had a clunk, Sam out
- 19:37Speaker 2: a clunker against some four picks, but the Bill's defense
- 19:40Speaker 2: was messing with two a toungo I low all day
- 19:42Speaker 2: long yesterday. Yeah, and and so that was you know,
- 19:45Speaker 2: I know we're going to get to that game coming
- 19:47Speaker 2: up here in just a minute, but that was pretty
- 19:48Speaker 2: fun to Watchean McDermott's got that crew playing really well.
- 19:51Speaker 2: We'll get to that here in just a little bit.
- 19:52Speaker 1: All right, this next one before we go to the break,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I mean, I guess let's not take too long on
- 19:57Speaker 1: this game, because one of those one that's doesn't I
- 20:00Speaker 1: don't think it deserves it. But I will say this,
- 20:03Speaker 1: as we talk about this Bronco Bears game, everybody's saying it,
- 20:06Speaker 1: how could you not? But man, if you're a Bears fan,
- 20:09Speaker 1: can you just dream on this moment right now? Having
- 20:11Speaker 1: potentially the first and second pick in the draft. Holy crud.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know what it's it's kind of weird
- 20:17Speaker 2: when you know, justin fields, you know, arguably has his
- 20:19Speaker 2: best day right throwing the football, and you're going to
- 20:23Speaker 2: be in position to take, you know, the best quarterback
- 20:25Speaker 2: that maybe we've seen come out of the draft in
- 20:26Speaker 2: a while. So I went into the fourth quarter to
- 20:30Speaker 2: really kind of under I was trying to understand what
- 20:32Speaker 2: the Bears were doing defensively, is did they change things
- 20:35Speaker 2: up coverage wise, ran a bunch of cover two? Did
- 20:38Speaker 2: they you know, did they have an issue dealing with
- 20:40Speaker 2: the run? Like it wasn't there was anything glaring. Bears
- 20:44Speaker 2: still got some pressure on Russell Wilson in that fourth
- 20:47Speaker 2: quarter when they were making that comeback, and I think
- 20:50Speaker 2: I just kind of came to the conclusion. I was like,
- 20:52Speaker 2: I think Russell Wilson just had his best quarter as
- 20:54Speaker 2: the Denver Bronco. I mean, he looked like Russ of Old,
- 20:58Speaker 2: kind of manipulating the pote, keeping his eyes downfield. I
- 21:01Speaker 2: mean the throw he had to Courtland Sutton on the
- 21:03Speaker 2: third and nine in the fourth quarter to make it
- 21:05Speaker 2: a twenty eight to twenty one ball game. It was
- 21:07Speaker 2: like a fifteen yard touchdown pass in the red zone.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I mean he threaded a needle laterally in the window
- 21:13Speaker 2: and then also layering it between two levels of the defense.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I mean it was as good a throw as you'll
- 21:18Speaker 2: see on Sunday. And and look, he was a big
- 21:21Speaker 2: reason they were able to, you know, make that comeback. Obviously.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Another reason is, you know, Maddieberflus decided not to take,
- 21:27Speaker 2: you know, a field goal which would have been about
- 21:29Speaker 2: a thirty seven yarder, instead went for it when they
- 21:31Speaker 2: were tied tied up at whatever it was, twenty eight
- 21:35Speaker 2: there on a fourth and one, and you know, obviously
- 21:39Speaker 2: they lose by field goal.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So not ideal, is that what you're getting on here.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I'm trying to get one last thing, one last thing here,
- 21:47Speaker 2: because you know you mentioned it. We do like to see,
- 21:49Speaker 2: you know, kind of follow some young guys that maybe
- 21:51Speaker 2: aren't always in the spotlight. Nick Benito, I think is
- 21:54Speaker 2: starting to come on a little bit for the Denver Broncos.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I mean he's got his almost as many pressures this
- 21:59Speaker 2: year as he did all of last year, and five
- 22:01Speaker 2: pressures in this game, two and a half sacks in
- 22:03Speaker 2: this game, and that strip sack obviously was really the
- 22:07Speaker 2: turning point for the Broncos momentum wise, and as it
- 22:10Speaker 2: relates to the ultimate result.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I'm glad you said that, HTT because while you're doing that,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm looking up the get off numbers. So you go
- 22:16Speaker 1: to next gen stats and have all the access to
- 22:19Speaker 1: get in there at all the goodies. And if you
- 22:21Speaker 1: just look at linebackers d liman a minimum of twenty
- 22:25Speaker 1: pass rush snaps. It's interesting because you see, you watch
- 22:28Speaker 1: a guy with your naked eye and you're like, god,
- 22:30Speaker 1: Nick Benito looks like he can really get off the rock.
- 22:32Speaker 1: So let's pull up the numbers. As I'm pulling us up,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I did not know where he was on this, but
- 22:36Speaker 1: it shouldn't be a surprise. Number one in the league
- 22:39Speaker 1: is Miles Garrett six, so got it. So that tells
- 22:42Speaker 1: you first and foremost this there's something to this second,
- 22:46Speaker 1: which is a surprise to some unless you know that
- 22:48Speaker 1: this guy's up there every year because he's got unbelievable anticipation.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Derek Barnett is at six point sixty six with the
- 22:56Speaker 1: hitcherss his teammate Josh Sweat again, they preach get off
- 23:00Speaker 1: point six y nine. Then you get Trey Hendrickson, you know,
- 23:04Speaker 1: elite rusher point seven to one, Nick Bosa Enough said
- 23:07Speaker 1: point seven to one, Leonard Floyd at point seven to two,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and who's tied with Leonard Floyd, Nick Benito at point
- 23:14Speaker 1: seven two. So's he's up there with all of those
- 23:17Speaker 1: top guys. It's it's it's why I love that stat
- 23:20Speaker 1: so much. It to me, it's something that truly translates.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It's one of the things with technology, we've been able
- 23:25Speaker 1: to get some new numbers and some new data, and
- 23:27Speaker 1: I think the get off thing is legit. I think
- 23:29Speaker 1: it's real. And when you when you're in the same
- 23:31Speaker 1: neighborhood is the Miles Garretts and the Nick Bosas and
- 23:34Speaker 1: the Hendrickson's of the world, that's where you want to be.
- 23:36Speaker 2: And think about what that does to a tackle. Right
- 23:38Speaker 2: when you know you're facing the guy with that elite
- 23:41Speaker 2: get off, you're already like building yourself an advantage before
- 23:44Speaker 2: the snap because you know that you know that tackle
- 23:47Speaker 2: is getting is it's in his head, right, he's got
- 23:50Speaker 2: to get it. Said yep, so that is that's a
- 23:53Speaker 2: good So I got another stat discovery that we'll get
- 23:55Speaker 2: to when we get to the Steelers Texans game, by
- 23:57Speaker 2: the way, that I think you'll appreciate.
- 23:59Speaker 1: All right, well, we're gonna get to that. We're going
- 24:01Speaker 1: to also get to the Bills Dolphins a couple more
- 24:03Speaker 1: games here. We'll get to those as well as Chiefs Jets,
- 24:07Speaker 1: Texan Steelers. We've got a lot of ground to cover here.
- 24:09Speaker 1: We'll do that right after this. All right, right, Well,
- 24:15Speaker 1: this next one I think you could say was the
- 24:17Speaker 1: biggest statement made from the weekend and the heavyweight matchup,
- 24:22Speaker 1: the Marquee matchup by the weekend, which was the Bills
- 24:25Speaker 1: hammering the Dolphins forty eight to twenty. A lot of
- 24:28Speaker 1: different places you can go on this. You referenced earlier
- 24:31Speaker 1: about the defense of the Bills, and I'll leave you
- 24:34Speaker 1: that real estate, because there's spend a lot of time
- 24:36Speaker 1: looking at the offense on this one. Seven explosive passes
- 24:40Speaker 1: and a variety of ways. Josh Allen because he's such
- 24:43Speaker 1: a unique player with his athleticism and arm strength, he
- 24:47Speaker 1: does some things similar to what Mahomes does. In other words,
- 24:51Speaker 1: like if you see pressure looks a lot of times
- 24:53Speaker 1: as a quarterback, especially when with a weak arm like myself,
- 24:57Speaker 1: it is. I see pressure coming back. Football's gone. I've
- 25:00Speaker 1: got to get it out. The pressure's coming. These freakazoids
- 25:03Speaker 1: just get depth and say that's fine. Why would I
- 25:06Speaker 1: don't want to try and hit a slant here. I'm
- 25:08Speaker 1: gonna retreat like a son of a gun and buy
- 25:11Speaker 1: some time vertically that way, and then I'm gonna then
- 25:14Speaker 1: you're vulnerable in the back end. I'm gonna make you
- 25:16Speaker 1: pay with a big shot. And that's one of the
- 25:18Speaker 1: things that Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, these guys can do.
- 25:20Speaker 1: It's such an advantage man to have a huge arm
- 25:23Speaker 1: like that to be able to pull that off. They
- 25:25Speaker 1: did a nice job on schedule. Throws bang eight bang
- 25:28Speaker 1: right on them. Yeah, rhythm through. Then you see Josh
- 25:32Speaker 1: scramble around, buy some time, hit the back on kind
- 25:34Speaker 1: of just a scrambled drill play, and James Cook ends
- 25:36Speaker 1: up getting you a big explosive back shoulder balls. Excellent.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Then you have what I like to call those scheme
- 25:42Speaker 1: winners where you see so much of this. Now you're
- 25:45Speaker 1: seeing a lot of teams run that orbit motion right. Yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 1: so they're throwing that glorified bubble and then they're having
- 25:51Speaker 1: a lead blocker with the wide out. So now I've
- 25:53Speaker 1: seen this in other games I've watched through the early
- 25:55Speaker 1: portion of the season. You're seeing that orbit motion. Now
- 25:58Speaker 1: you're getting the pump, you're getting the stock block and go,
- 26:00Speaker 1: and you're just putting that corner in such a bind.
- 26:03Speaker 1: He's sitting there going, I've got to get off this
- 26:04Speaker 1: block and make this tackle on this bubble that's coming
- 26:07Speaker 1: my way, and all of a sudden, wait, wha, wait
- 26:08Speaker 1: a second, you just slipped me, and now he's up
- 26:10Speaker 1: the sideline and you're getting a big play. So you have,
- 26:13Speaker 1: you know, the ability to adjust versus pressure on time,
- 26:16Speaker 1: big time throws vanesse, you know, throws in terms of
- 26:20Speaker 1: back shoulder accuracy, like that's that's a skilled throw. And
- 26:23Speaker 1: then you get this stuff. You know, GA design winners.
- 26:26Speaker 1: It's like they can do infinite amount of things offensively.
- 26:30Speaker 1: When Josh Allen's playing like.
- 26:31Speaker 2: This, that missile to Gabe Davis on the first that
- 26:36Speaker 2: is so much fun to watch that and to watch
- 26:39Speaker 2: that trajectory and I thing's on a flip and rope
- 26:41Speaker 2: right and just right right in there, right where it
- 26:44Speaker 2: had to be. I love getting stuff on Diggs going
- 26:46Speaker 2: in this game, you know, and then watching him kind
- 26:48Speaker 2: of build his kind, you feed him and just he
- 26:52Speaker 2: he you know, he continues to get better right as
- 26:54Speaker 2: the game goes on and more difficult to deal with.
- 26:56Speaker 2: You saw that on the run after the catch on
- 26:58Speaker 2: I think it was the second touchdown. I mean it
- 27:00Speaker 2: was just there was so much to light there. Now
- 27:02Speaker 2: here's the other thing I think we we maybe forgot
- 27:05Speaker 2: and need to come back to appreciating how good of
- 27:08Speaker 2: a defensive coach of Sean McDermott's yeah, right, I mean
- 27:11Speaker 2: like that's that that's his forte right, and that's that's
- 27:13Speaker 2: essentially what gets him, you know, the Buffalo Bill's head
- 27:16Speaker 2: coaching job, and the last couple of years, you know,
- 27:18Speaker 2: he's had Leslie Fraser calling the plays and that's still
- 27:20Speaker 2: been a good defense. Leslie did a good job there.
- 27:22Speaker 2: But man, I mean McDermott is rolling right now as
- 27:25Speaker 2: a play caller. I mean he had to a tongue
- 27:27Speaker 2: of Biloa guessing all over the place in this game.
- 27:30Speaker 2: And I think their best some of their their best
- 27:32Speaker 2: plays was trying to find that get the ball to
- 27:34Speaker 2: to Devon ah Chan and uh and obviously he had
- 27:36Speaker 2: a one hundred per yard day and an explosive day on
- 27:39Speaker 2: the ground. But man, they they did a pretty good
- 27:42Speaker 2: job keeping those deep explosive plays in the past game
- 27:45Speaker 2: under wraps. And that's easier said than nothing.
- 27:48Speaker 1: So I went back and watched the defense this morning.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I spun through it, and I just wanted to see, Okay,
- 27:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch I'm gonna watch all the explosives that
- 27:55Speaker 1: the Dolphins were still able to generate. And then I
- 27:57Speaker 1: want to watch how they got off the defensively, and
- 28:01Speaker 1: and I'm like, Okay, can I find something? Is there
- 28:04Speaker 1: something in here that correlates between their allowing big plays
- 28:07Speaker 1: and they're they're limiting big plays? And I honestly read it.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I thought it was pretty interesting. It was pretty telling
- 28:11Speaker 1: to me. It was It was quite simply linebacker depth
- 28:14Speaker 1: like that was it like when they're linebackers off all
- 28:17Speaker 1: that play action stuff you step for, the Dolphins are
- 28:20Speaker 1: just trying to manipulate you to just just either hold
- 28:23Speaker 1: or just give me a little just give me one
- 28:24Speaker 1: or two steps, lean in pause, just to create that gap,
- 28:28Speaker 1: that distance between the linebackers and the safeties. And that's
- 28:31Speaker 1: where they operate. That's where Tua lives in that area. Yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 1: but when they were disciplined and just basically and look,
- 28:37Speaker 1: you can give up, who cares. Let If Han wants
- 28:40Speaker 1: to run for one hundred yards, that's fine. We're not
- 28:42Speaker 1: playing downhill. We are getting out of there. Our linebackers
- 28:45Speaker 1: are athletic. We're gonna get out and we're gonna We're
- 28:47Speaker 1: gonna rally and tackle. You're gonna have to check the
- 28:49Speaker 1: ball down. You're gonna have to throw it underneath our
- 28:51Speaker 1: second level. We're not gonna let you work between our
- 28:54Speaker 1: second and third level. And the reason you do that
- 28:56Speaker 1: is you get your linebackers the crap out of there.
- 28:59Speaker 1: When they got depth, there was nowhere to go with
- 29:01Speaker 1: the ball, and Toua was reluctant to try and really
- 29:03Speaker 1: check the ball all the way down because people talk
- 29:06Speaker 1: about the deep ball, talk about check. Tua lives in
- 29:08Speaker 1: the middle. He is the intermediate king. That is where
- 29:11Speaker 1: he is most comfortable. And they just kill teams with
- 29:13Speaker 1: those throws.
- 29:14Speaker 2: They turn those went into those sixty yard touchdowns. Right,
- 29:17Speaker 2: you catch it at twenty.
- 29:18Speaker 1: And then run, Yeah, you catch it on the dead run.
- 29:21Speaker 1: But to me, linebacker depth, that the discipline of that too,
- 29:24Speaker 1: because your whole life and football you've been taught. You
- 29:26Speaker 1: see the ball in the belly of the back, you
- 29:28Speaker 1: are taking a step down, You've got gaps, you've got responsibilities.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Screw that, man, get the heck out of there.
- 29:34Speaker 2: And then I think again, he comes back to something
- 29:36Speaker 2: I think we mentioned first or second week of the season,
- 29:40Speaker 2: but the roster decision from Brandon Bean to let to
- 29:45Speaker 2: let Tremaine Edmunds go get the big money deal elsewhere,
- 29:48Speaker 2: feel really good about Matt Milano, and then know you
- 29:50Speaker 2: drafted Terrell Bernard who can really run. And man, that
- 29:55Speaker 2: is a really good off the ball linebacker duo right
- 29:57Speaker 2: there with Bernard and Matt Milano. But yeah, yeah, anything
- 30:01Speaker 2: else on that game, I think, uh, I think that
- 30:04Speaker 2: pretty much covers it. But I think for the most part,
- 30:07Speaker 2: we're seeing we're seeing good. Josh Allen like, yeah, and
- 30:10Speaker 2: obviously the one game you know wasn't great a couple
- 30:13Speaker 2: of weeks ago, but man, twenty one to twenty five,
- 30:15Speaker 2: even more touchdowns and incompletions in this game. So that's
- 30:18Speaker 2: winning football.
- 30:19Speaker 1: By the way, I tell you, I'm I pick up
- 30:21Speaker 1: the tuxedo today. Got it? Yeah, So we got all raded,
- 30:25Speaker 1: We got it all dialed then feel good about it.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I don't know if I ever told you ended up
- 30:28Speaker 1: going bow tie. It was it was longtime boats ie.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I went with the boat tie more formal. My wife's
- 30:34Speaker 1: gonna be wearing more of a formal dress at the wedding,
- 30:36Speaker 1: so I said, Okay, the bow ties. It's more matching there.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I appreciate that classic look. Man, you're a classic. Got
- 30:42Speaker 1: the the tuxedo shirt, which I never really was aware of.
- 30:46Speaker 1: This one has kind of like the circle. It's kind
- 30:49Speaker 1: of like the you know, it's kind of like the
- 30:50Speaker 1: little circle kind of look at you. Yes, yeah, like you. Yeah,
- 30:54Speaker 1: it's definitely a you you look. I felt like kind
- 30:58Speaker 1: of I kind of felt like I belonged playing it
- 30:59Speaker 1: in Triman on the deck of the Titanic. I'm not
- 31:01Speaker 1: gonna lie U with that thing. Well, but we'll see.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Hopefully that's not a metaphor for the getting out to
- 31:07Speaker 1: put that out there. Yeah, he's a nice, nice guy,
- 31:11Speaker 1: a good, good future, all right. That was the side
- 31:14Speaker 1: note there. Excited to get the tucks though, get that today? Yeah,
- 31:17Speaker 1: excited cowboys Cowboys Patriots thirty eight to three. Yeah, just
- 31:22Speaker 1: I don't know how let's just say it's a beat down, man.
- 31:24Speaker 2: It was. It was. And again the Dallas Cowboys defense
- 31:28Speaker 2: back back to doing what they do really well, turn
- 31:30Speaker 2: the football over. This this was not an overly like
- 31:35Speaker 2: prolific day from the Dallas offense, which a lot of
- 31:38Speaker 2: times you think we see thirty eight points. So you
- 31:40Speaker 2: get two defensive touchdowns, you're pretty good. Shape fumble return
- 31:43Speaker 2: scoop and scored by Layton vander ash and then a
- 31:45Speaker 2: Dean Bland fifty four yard pick six. He had two
- 31:48Speaker 2: picks some day. So let's get into this here. A
- 31:50Speaker 2: little bit on mac Jones. He had a pretty good
- 31:53Speaker 2: first quarter. Okay, he had a pretty good first quarter,
- 31:56Speaker 2: made some big throws in that in that and then
- 31:58Speaker 2: things really started to kind of spiral and slip a
- 32:01Speaker 2: bit after the strip skack scoop and score by Layton
- 32:05Speaker 2: Vanderesch there so he I mean, here's a two play
- 32:08Speaker 2: sequence where he starts to get kind off the rails
- 32:11Speaker 2: a little bit. He's got a second and sixteen. He's
- 32:13Speaker 2: rolling all the way out to his right. He stops
- 32:17Speaker 2: and then looks all the way back to the left. Okay,
- 32:19Speaker 2: so he's at the top of the numbers on the
- 32:21Speaker 2: right side. He then throws all the way back three
- 32:24Speaker 2: yards from the sideline on the left side, about three
- 32:27Speaker 2: yards beyond the line of scrimmage as well, So it's
- 32:29Speaker 2: not like a deep throw. I mean it is almost
- 32:31Speaker 2: completely lateral, sidelined to side, like really dangerous throw. Right. Well,
- 32:36Speaker 2: it ends up working. So then what happens a few
- 32:38Speaker 2: plays later on the same drive rolls all the way
- 32:40Speaker 2: out this time it is just to the right hash
- 32:42Speaker 2: after dealing with some pressure, and again goes all the
- 32:44Speaker 2: way back to the left side of the field. This
- 32:47Speaker 2: time Deron blands like ah not again picks that thing off,
- 32:50Speaker 2: takes it to the house fifty four yards back. So
- 32:53Speaker 2: you know, he sees some slippage and then things, you know,
- 32:56Speaker 2: things start to start to kind of pile on. Little
- 33:00Speaker 2: bit flustered in the pocket I think, and you mentioned
- 33:02Speaker 2: with Josh Allen and Mahomes. You see guys with those
- 33:05Speaker 2: big arms, man, they will they'll retreat and they'll reset
- 33:08Speaker 2: right and then fire a strike. Whereas you know, Mac
- 33:12Speaker 2: felt like maybe a couple of times could have stepped
- 33:15Speaker 2: up in the pocket set his feet made a nice throw,
- 33:17Speaker 2: whereas he's still retreating and then trying to throw it
- 33:19Speaker 2: off the back foot and that's trouble. And then he
- 33:22Speaker 2: gets picked off again by Deron Bland on just an
- 33:26Speaker 2: errant backfoot kind of throw. It's actually he's inside on
- 33:30Speaker 2: an out route on the second Bland interception. Makes a
- 33:33Speaker 2: bad choice there. But I mean Doron Bland, by the way,
- 33:37Speaker 2: has more interceptions than anybody in the league since the
- 33:40Speaker 2: started last year. Fifth round pick out of Frozeno State.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Can I pull up my nugs on him because he
- 33:47Speaker 1: was Well, I'll give you some homework while you're doing
- 33:49Speaker 1: it here, let me know what what pick he was.
- 33:53Speaker 1: He was my one hundred and twenty first player. Was
- 33:55Speaker 1: he undrafted No. Round five, pick one sixty seven. Okay,
- 34:00Speaker 1: so he was one hundred and twenty first player. This
- 34:01Speaker 1: is non combine so that was, you know, one of
- 34:04Speaker 1: the deals there. He was a little over six foot,
- 34:07Speaker 1: one hundred ninety seven pounds, ran for four to six.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I've had three picks, I said in off coverage. This
- 34:12Speaker 1: dude can really find and play the ball. He has
- 34:15Speaker 1: a big time, big time pick six with showing FBI
- 34:19Speaker 1: and range, so football intelligence and range versus boyd Boise State.
- 34:23Speaker 1: He can carry crossers, he's got deep speed. He was
- 34:27Speaker 1: like one of my true sleepers. You know, put him
- 34:29Speaker 1: as one hundred and twenty first guy without him, you know,
- 34:32Speaker 1: going to the combine.
- 34:33Speaker 2: That's a pretty good you know, that's a pretty good
- 34:36Speaker 2: grade right there. You know, forg guy who doesn't end
- 34:39Speaker 2: up at the combine ends up there, which is kind
- 34:40Speaker 2: of weird.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Too, when you like it's a it's definitely you know,
- 34:42Speaker 1: you're not going to be bat one thousand, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 1: when you're got Jeff Foster's job and you've got to
- 34:47Speaker 1: collect these guys and limited the number of guys you
- 34:49Speaker 1: get the combin But oh sure, man, this guy's height, weight,
- 34:52Speaker 1: speed and production. Like that's a lot to sell there.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I mean it's like, you know, you get Treyvon Diggs
- 35:00Speaker 2: Picks a couple of years ago, and now you got
- 35:01Speaker 2: you know, he inserted dron Bland, who again is kind
- 35:05Speaker 2: of an interception magnet. So I thought, I thought that
- 35:08Speaker 2: was pretty cool. I I don't know what to do
- 35:10Speaker 2: if you're the Patriots, you know, I think Mac Jones
- 35:13Speaker 2: is still your best option, right and Bill Belichick's been
- 35:17Speaker 2: answering those questions, But what's your best option to find
- 35:21Speaker 2: productivity as an offense? I think it's it's it feels
- 35:25Speaker 2: like it's more so on the ground that it is
- 35:27Speaker 2: through the air, you know, just with the talent. And
- 35:30Speaker 2: I know they've had some issues along the offensive line too,
- 35:32Speaker 2: but I think more Ramandre Stevenson the better moving forward
- 35:37Speaker 2: for the Patriots. Or is you know Zeke Elliott too?
- 35:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting. I went through and was just trying
- 35:42Speaker 1: to pull up some mac Jones numbers. You know, he's
- 35:44Speaker 1: tied with with Ritter with ten turnover worthy plays in
- 35:48Speaker 1: the league, And to me, I think that obviously he's
- 35:51Speaker 1: got to own some of that criticism. I didn't ever
- 35:53Speaker 1: think the ceiling with Mac was incredibly incredibly high, but
- 35:57Speaker 1: I wonder. I wonder if he just goes to bed
- 36:00Speaker 1: at night and thinks, man, I was this close to
- 36:04Speaker 1: being brock perty. I was this close with my skill set,
- 36:08Speaker 1: the way I can play with Deebo, Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk,
- 36:12Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan call and plays, George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey. He's
- 36:16Speaker 1: got to just sit there and watch those forty nine
- 36:18Speaker 1: Ers games and be like, are you kidding me? They
- 36:20Speaker 1: almost put me in that Lamborghini and I gotta sit
- 36:23Speaker 1: here and I got to drive this old beat up
- 36:25Speaker 1: car here in New England where we've got nobody that
- 36:28Speaker 1: can win, I got nobody that can separate. I mean,
- 36:31Speaker 1: I keep coming back to the same thing we said
- 36:33Speaker 1: before the season started, and it's kind of like it's like,
- 36:36Speaker 1: you know, people, that's kind of hokey analogy, but it's true.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Like what the heck what jersey are you selling in
- 36:40Speaker 1: that team shop? Like what the heck are you excited about?
- 36:43Speaker 1: If you're a Patriots fan? Like I get you know
- 36:45Speaker 1: what I mean, I'm coming off of a year. I'm
- 36:46Speaker 1: coming off of a baseball season where I'm been a
- 36:48Speaker 1: pottery fan. They didn't make the playoffs, and I you know,
- 36:50Speaker 1: but I'm like, did I get to watch Wan Soto
- 36:52Speaker 1: and Manny Machado and Frando? Like at least there's something
- 36:55Speaker 1: as a fan you can get excited about and go watch.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Like who are you excited about to go watch a
- 36:59Speaker 1: Patriot game? You're gonna go pay all that money? Who
- 37:01Speaker 1: you want to see?
- 37:03Speaker 2: Juju Smith Schuster five targets, one catch. Hunter Henry was
- 37:07Speaker 2: their most efficient receiver on the day. I think I
- 37:09Speaker 2: think Pop's Douglas to Mario. Doug Douglas is like the
- 37:12Speaker 2: guy that's got the most juice on that team. Yeah,
- 37:14Speaker 2: and you know he had a he had a long
- 37:16Speaker 2: forty two yard catch early on, I think on their
- 37:19Speaker 2: first drive. But uh, you know Mac throws the two picks.
- 37:24Speaker 1: You're gonna go, I know, and I know they beat
- 37:26Speaker 1: the Jets, but you're gonna say you can go watch
- 37:28Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson, Tyreek Hill and Miami. You can go watch
- 37:30Speaker 1: Stefon Diggs and Buffalo, or you can come watch Pop
- 37:32Speaker 1: Douglas in know England.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I mean, come on, yeah, look, I'm not saying it's
- 37:36Speaker 2: a great situation, but I'm just trying to give you
- 37:38Speaker 2: the best of the best of the bunch here. Whereas
- 37:41Speaker 2: like every single play I mean Stevens and I'm saying,
- 37:44Speaker 2: run the ball more. I mean, Remandre averages two yards
- 37:47Speaker 2: of carrying this game, Zeke two point seven. That's nothing.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Nothing to hang your hat on either, I guess no.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Anyway, so good wins for the Cowboys. They bounce back,
- 37:56Speaker 1: So good on them. But I just again, I don't
- 37:58Speaker 1: know where the Patriots. The Patriots to me feel like
- 38:00Speaker 1: the a little bit like the Raiders we talked about earlier.
- 38:03Speaker 1: It's like, Okay, this team's not good enough to win anything.
- 38:07Speaker 1: So who are the building blocks that you can you know,
- 38:10Speaker 1: having place to go forward with and and you got
- 38:13Speaker 1: to have some major, major, major, major upgrades to the
- 38:16Speaker 1: talent or you got no shot.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right. I mean it's kind of
- 38:21Speaker 2: been building towards this too, like for or falling towards
- 38:25Speaker 2: this fall. It's been like a simmer right towards this
- 38:29Speaker 2: thing for a couple of seasons. All right, what are
- 38:31Speaker 2: we go on next?
- 38:32Speaker 1: They got the Sunday Night or Chiefs and Jets. Uh,
- 38:35Speaker 1: it was interesting, you know, going back and watching that
- 38:37Speaker 1: this morning. Let's start on the Jets offensive side of
- 38:40Speaker 1: the ball, because I think that got the most attention.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Got Rodney Harrison got a lot of attention for it
- 38:45Speaker 1: was a little a little harsh, a little much on
- 38:47Speaker 1: that one, a little over the top. But I wanted
- 38:50Speaker 1: to start with Zach Wilson. Is his best game, uh
- 38:53Speaker 1: that he's probably played as a pro against maybe you know,
- 38:56Speaker 1: one of the top three defenses in the NFL. At
- 38:57Speaker 1: Chiefs are really really good. So that was encouraging to see.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Now when I went back and watch it, I still
- 39:04Speaker 1: think he's late. I still think he missed some things
- 39:06Speaker 1: where you've got guys, you know, you've got like a
- 39:09Speaker 1: you've got a mesh route where everything is set up
- 39:12Speaker 1: to pick and get the back out and the flat
- 39:13Speaker 1: and the pick works, and you've got him in the
- 39:15Speaker 1: flat to walk in and he doesn't see it. So
- 39:18Speaker 1: I still think there's times where he's not seeing everything. Great,
- 39:22Speaker 1: but I thought he played more under control. I thought
- 39:24Speaker 1: they took the training wheels off, so to speak, let him,
- 39:27Speaker 1: you know, just be a little bit more of attack mode.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I think you can get into dangerous territory when you're
- 39:33Speaker 1: just don't screw up, don't script, don't scrip, don't scrip,
- 39:36Speaker 1: don't screw up like you can't play the position like that.
- 39:38Speaker 1: You've got to have a little bit of a stinger.
- 39:40Speaker 1: And I thought you saw that kind of grow with
- 39:41Speaker 1: him as the game went along. Yeah, you know, the fumble.
- 39:44Speaker 1: I'm sure he'd loved to have that one back. But
- 39:47Speaker 1: on the whole, I thought this was this was something
- 39:49Speaker 1: he can he can learn from and grow from. And
- 39:52Speaker 1: I don't even know if I'm reading much into this,
- 39:53Speaker 1: but just just Aaron Rodgers, even just being around, I
- 39:55Speaker 1: think is a calming influence. And again it's that all
- 39:58Speaker 1: that doubt. And you even saw it some after the
- 40:00Speaker 1: game when they had the camera close up on him
- 40:02Speaker 1: and he says, sorry, bro, you know I lost the game.
- 40:04Speaker 2: For us or whatever.
- 40:05Speaker 1: He says, yeah, which is a totally different attitude than
- 40:08Speaker 1: he had last year. I think he's way more endearing
- 40:11Speaker 1: to his teammates, you know, this version of Zach Wilson
- 40:14Speaker 1: than he was previously. Long story short, red. He's not
- 40:18Speaker 1: like to say that he's fixed. No, he still has
- 40:21Speaker 1: a lot of he still has a lot of growth.
- 40:23Speaker 1: But I looked it up. Man, he's twenty four years old.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Like this dude is still twenty four And the one
- 40:28Speaker 1: thing I would like to put to bed, he look,
- 40:31Speaker 1: that might be the best game he ever plays. He
- 40:33Speaker 1: may be. He could be out of the league in
- 40:34Speaker 1: two years. I don't know, we'll find out. But the
- 40:37Speaker 1: whole narrative that he was just one throw at a
- 40:40Speaker 1: pro day and that's why he got drafted, I might
- 40:43Speaker 1: just stop, just stop. Like the guy has elite traits
- 40:48Speaker 1: coming out like he made ridiculous in game throws. He's
- 40:51Speaker 1: very athletic. All that stuff's there. But if you were
- 40:55Speaker 1: going to say, you know, what's a tough position to
- 40:57Speaker 1: go on. Well, you're gonna go someplace that's extremely high
- 41:00Speaker 1: pressure on you at that position, a ton of attention.
- 41:02Speaker 1: You don't have a great offensive line. When you get there,
- 41:04Speaker 1: you're going to cycle through offenses and offensive coordinators and
- 41:07Speaker 1: then your confidence is going to be shot. And oh,
- 41:09Speaker 1: by the way, you play in a division with Bill
- 41:11Speaker 1: Belichick McDermott and then a Dolphins team that's had as
- 41:14Speaker 1: much talent as anybody since he's come into the league.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Like it was crappy hand, the kid got dealt. All
- 41:20Speaker 1: I'm saying is that nothing's been determined. And this doesn't
- 41:23Speaker 1: mean he's going to be good because he played one
- 41:25Speaker 1: good game, but hey, look for one day, you'd be
- 41:28Speaker 1: excited that there are steps taken forward in a positive manner.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I would actually kind of characterize it as I
- 41:34Speaker 2: feel like he had his best eight hours as a pro.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Like when you talk about putting your eight hours in,
- 41:39Speaker 2: you know, just like putting it putting in a workday,
- 41:41Speaker 2: and that means you know, that means your preparation going
- 41:44Speaker 2: into the game, you know your the whole deal, and
- 41:46Speaker 2: then it also means how you react after the game. Right,
- 41:49Speaker 2: because we've seen that go the other way, you know
- 41:51Speaker 2: with Zach. But I thought it was really telling to
- 41:52Speaker 2: see Randall Cobb and Alan Lazard coming up come up
- 41:55Speaker 2: to him after the turnover and be like, hey, we
- 41:58Speaker 2: got you. You know, like this can win. If you're
- 42:01Speaker 2: playing like this for four quarters, we can win. We
- 42:05Speaker 2: can back each other up here, like this is something
- 42:07Speaker 2: we can kind of feed off now and build off
- 42:09Speaker 2: moving forward. It felt like there was this, like it's
- 42:12Speaker 2: kind of a come together moment there for that offense,
- 42:16Speaker 2: and maybe maybe they hadn't d you know, truly in
- 42:19Speaker 2: one of those tough situations yet. So I thought that
- 42:21Speaker 2: was kind of cool to see. And then, you know,
- 42:22Speaker 2: Zach stand up after the game. You know, obviously you
- 42:25Speaker 2: got to can't take your eye off the ball on
- 42:27Speaker 2: a snap like that, right, got to make sure you
- 42:29Speaker 2: secure secure That's that's priority one. Secure the ball and
- 42:32Speaker 2: then let's go play. And obviously just didn't there and
- 42:35Speaker 2: that ended up leading to it. But that final drive
- 42:37Speaker 2: was kind of insane for the Chiefs, the amount of
- 42:39Speaker 2: penalties that were called on that thing. And I think
- 42:42Speaker 2: a lot of people are talking about the sauce gardner,
- 42:44Speaker 2: you know, Kai, yeah, maybe by letter of the law.
- 42:47Speaker 2: It's a hole, you know, and you hate to see
- 42:50Speaker 2: it on a third and twenty right, and there's a
- 42:53Speaker 2: couple of different plays, a couple of I mean, Patrick
- 42:56Speaker 2: Mahomes is sitting back there for seven seconds before he
- 42:58Speaker 2: ends up taking that open run with for the twenty
- 43:00Speaker 2: five yard scramble. You know, playing man coverage in that
- 43:04Speaker 2: situation is risky business, isn't it if you're if you're
- 43:07Speaker 2: the Jets.
- 43:08Speaker 1: So I'm going back and I'm pulling this up because, yeah,
- 43:12Speaker 1: the game in Mexico City in twenty nineteen, I'm down there,
- 43:17Speaker 1: it's Chargers Chiefs, it's late, and Mahomes ended up with
- 43:22Speaker 1: five rushes for fifty nine yards with a long of
- 43:25Speaker 1: twenty four. And I believe late in this game it
- 43:28Speaker 1: was again another like twenty Maybe maybe that was a
- 43:31Speaker 1: twenty four yard run, but it was a third down,
- 43:34Speaker 1: third and forever and uh and he ends up break
- 43:37Speaker 1: just being fast enough, and it's the last thing you're
- 43:39Speaker 1: thinking of, you take away everything else, and all of
- 43:41Speaker 1: a sudden it's like, oh crap, you mean to tell
- 43:43Speaker 1: me this dude can run too? And he does it
- 43:46Speaker 1: and he he's usually pretty good. If you go back
- 43:49Speaker 1: and look at every big game that he's played in,
- 43:52Speaker 1: he has one or two of these runs that extend drives.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Every single time he has in an eight feel of
- 43:58Speaker 1: just knowing, oh, there's enough I can go at that,
- 44:00Speaker 1: and he goes and does it. It's it's incredible. It's
- 44:02Speaker 1: it's you know, it's one of the reasons why you know,
- 44:06Speaker 1: when I've talked to it. I remember it was Gus
- 44:08Speaker 1: Bradley or who it was. It was a defensive coordinator
- 44:10Speaker 1: was talking to about him. And obviously nobody says they
- 44:13Speaker 1: have the answers with Patrick Mahomes, but one of the
- 44:15Speaker 1: keys was everybody says, oh, you've got to keep him
- 44:18Speaker 1: in the pocket. You got to keep him in the pocket.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Their thing was, we're okay, if he gets flushed out
- 44:24Speaker 1: right or if he gets flushed out left. The thing
- 44:26Speaker 1: you can't do is open up lanes where he can
- 44:29Speaker 1: run shoulders squared towards the line of scrimmage in the
- 44:32Speaker 1: middle of the field, because not only then do you
- 44:33Speaker 1: have to worry about him running, but now he can
- 44:36Speaker 1: access every blade of grass on the entire field like that.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I mean, he's made some incredible all the way out
- 44:42Speaker 1: to the sideline to the right, maybe throw it back
- 44:44Speaker 1: to the hash, but I mean he can't get it
- 44:45Speaker 1: to the other sideline from there. When you're in the
- 44:47Speaker 1: middle of the field, you literally have to defend from
- 44:49Speaker 1: one sideline to the other sideline. But there were some
- 44:52Speaker 1: they just had some creases and he was able to
- 44:54Speaker 1: get up in there and then and then you're in trouble.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean it's a tough spot to be in,
- 45:00Speaker 2: right because you feel like if you're playing zone coverage
- 45:03Speaker 2: in some of those situations too, Travis Kelcey's got the
- 45:06Speaker 2: knack for finding the open window right and and Mahomes
- 45:08Speaker 2: gives him such latitude to do that. I mean, it's
- 45:10Speaker 2: kind of a no win situation. I don't know what
- 45:12Speaker 2: the right call is there. I just know that that
- 45:14Speaker 2: was about as as you know, free a runway on
- 45:18Speaker 2: a third and twenty right up the gut, right up
- 45:20Speaker 2: the middle that you'll ever see. And and it obviously
- 45:24Speaker 2: it paid off for the Chiefs.
- 45:25Speaker 1: But I take nothing away from them either, by the way.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I mean, that wasn't there. That wasn't their best effort,
- 45:31Speaker 1: that wasn't their best performance. Pat didn't have a great game.
- 45:33Speaker 2: About the checko though.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, that gave him something, you know, it's a
- 45:37Speaker 1: nice balance for him. And that's I go back to
- 45:40Speaker 1: the Chiefs, you know, talking about the Chiefs, I go
- 45:41Speaker 1: back to what we said about the Eagles. Just stack them,
- 45:43Speaker 1: just just throw wins up there. Doesn't have to be
- 45:46Speaker 1: pretty then't that have to be your best. But they
- 45:47Speaker 1: just know how to win in those winning moments. They
- 45:50Speaker 1: definitely pulled that off a last one. Rhtt. This was
- 45:52Speaker 1: just I feel like we've gone close games and man,
- 45:55Speaker 1: butt kickings. This would be a butt kicking and this
- 45:57Speaker 1: was the Textans thirty to six over the Steelers.
- 46:01Speaker 2: And man, this was a lot of This was really
- 46:03Speaker 2: cool to see. And you know, you had JJ Watt
- 46:05Speaker 2: in the building going up in the Ring of honor.
- 46:07Speaker 2: TJ Watt obviously there too, and I honestly thought TJ
- 46:10Speaker 2: Watt might give you know, CJ. Stroud and the text
- 46:12Speaker 2: in some trouble, you know, the offensive lines beat up
- 46:16Speaker 2: at the tackle spot. But CJ is a cool customer.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Man.
- 46:21Speaker 2: It's getting to the point right now where even if
- 46:23Speaker 2: I don't select this game as one of our eight
- 46:25Speaker 2: to talk about, I got to want to watch it.
- 46:27Speaker 2: I just want It's just it's too much fun, especially
- 46:29Speaker 2: when you can watch the trajectory of some of his
- 46:32Speaker 2: throws from the end zone copies. It's like, yeah, it's
- 46:35Speaker 2: a thing of beauty. It's like watching the NFL films
- 46:37Speaker 2: like Spiral right, the close up spiral that they got
- 46:40Speaker 2: in slow motion. Man, he's good. Look. I think credit
- 46:43Speaker 2: to Bobby Slowick too, because they've got some real comfortability.
- 46:47Speaker 2: He has built in some real comfortability with with things
- 46:50Speaker 2: that CJ. Stroud can do really well. Like they've run
- 46:52Speaker 2: a goal line RPO. That's a thing of beauty. I mean,
- 46:54Speaker 2: it's just it is a simple read. He sees nobody
- 46:58Speaker 2: in the in the middle of the field. Here, pulls
- 47:00Speaker 2: the ball out of Damian Pierce's stomach. Bang, trust Nico
- 47:04Speaker 2: Collins to get inside on a slant route and it's
- 47:06Speaker 2: like bang, bang, you know, no shot for the Steelers
- 47:09Speaker 2: right there, and it's a touchdown. He's got another RPO
- 47:12Speaker 2: where he sees the pressure kind of developing before it
- 47:14Speaker 2: even happens. He's going to have unblocked pressure and then
- 47:18Speaker 2: he's like, bamn, I'm going right to Nico Collins. I mean,
- 47:20Speaker 2: the ball comes out right. It's just it's a lot
- 47:23Speaker 2: of fun to see and so I'm watching these throws, right,
- 47:26Speaker 2: and I'm like, man, these guys me he is CJ's
- 47:29Speaker 2: on the money, which you know, isn't strange. What's what's
- 47:31Speaker 2: a superpower? It's accurately right, It's it's all places we
- 47:33Speaker 2: talk about all the time. And and I'm like, man,
- 47:36Speaker 2: these guys are are catching the ball and they are running.
- 47:39Speaker 2: And I think a lot of times, you know, we'll
- 47:40Speaker 2: use you know, a box score to look for a
- 47:43Speaker 2: trend that maybe you want to dig deeper into. Right,
- 47:46Speaker 2: you know, you see a team goes you know, two
- 47:48Speaker 2: or twelve on third downs? All right, what was what
- 47:50Speaker 2: was going on? So we'll go we'll get those third downs? Well,
- 47:53Speaker 2: this was the opposite. It was kind of like what
- 47:54Speaker 2: you were talking about earlier in the show. And I'm like,
- 47:57Speaker 2: I wonder, I wonder what they're acquas this week for
- 48:01Speaker 2: the Texans. Yeah, well sure enough. They led the league
- 48:05Speaker 2: in yack yardage this week with one hundred and seventy
- 48:07Speaker 2: eight yards. And and is that is that? Because you
- 48:10Speaker 2: know Nicocollins and uh, you know John Metchi and Brevin
- 48:13Speaker 2: Jordan to Tank Dell. I mean, like they're good players, right,
- 48:16Speaker 2: who would the ability to generate yards after the catch.
- 48:18Speaker 2: But a big piece of that is CJ. Stroud putting
- 48:21Speaker 2: that thing on the money. None more beautiful than the
- 48:24Speaker 2: third and seven corner round from the slot by Nico
- 48:26Speaker 2: with under four minutes to go. I mean it just
- 48:29Speaker 2: it doesn't get much better and c J. Stroud is
- 48:31Speaker 2: just dotting them up right now.
- 48:32Speaker 1: All right, let me give you I'll piggyback that stat
- 48:35Speaker 1: with the with another one third down if we say
- 48:38Speaker 1: third downs of money down right, yep. CJ. Stroud on
- 48:41Speaker 1: third down this year is forty for fifty six with
- 48:43Speaker 1: four touchdowns no picks. His adjusted completion percentage, meaning what
- 48:48Speaker 1: his completion percentage should be, is best in the league
- 48:51Speaker 1: eighty six point three percent on third third down down
- 48:55Speaker 1: eighty six point three.
- 48:57Speaker 2: DJ. Do you remember my takeaway from the Texans game
- 49:00Speaker 2: in Week one? This dude was fourteen to sixteen on
- 49:03Speaker 2: third down. Yeah, like, and they didn't convert every one
- 49:07Speaker 2: of them, but like, that's incredible.
- 49:08Speaker 1: That's where that is absolutely outstanding for a guy in
- 49:12Speaker 1: his first four starts to be to be sitting there
- 49:16Speaker 1: and again not turning the football over. Four touchdowns, no picks.
- 49:20Speaker 1: He's been sacked three times, but They've had four drop
- 49:23Speaker 1: passes on there. His completion percentage I believe is like
- 49:26Speaker 1: seventy three percent, but adjusted completion percentage would put him
- 49:30Speaker 1: at eighty six percent, which is incredibly stupid. So he
- 49:34Speaker 1: is off to a great start and they are looking
- 49:36Speaker 1: like they not only have found their guy, but they've
- 49:39Speaker 1: got a chance to And we were thinking maybe this
- 49:41Speaker 1: is Trevor Lawrence's division for the.
- 49:43Speaker 2: No, they're vibing right now.
- 49:44Speaker 1: No, they're ready to go.
- 49:45Speaker 2: He got the defense.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Well yeah, yeah, yeah, so fun times, fun times in Houston.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Any any other games you want to touch on before
- 49:53Speaker 1: we jump out of here.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Let's see what do we uh? What do we miss?
- 49:57Speaker 2: I mean Baltimore Cleveland obviously, you know the Shawn Watson.
- 50:00Speaker 2: I think that's really unfortunate for the Browns. You know,
- 50:02Speaker 2: he plays his best game as a Brown last week
- 50:04Speaker 2: and then you know, unable to go.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I argue that that was the best thing. Can I
- 50:08Speaker 1: argue that was the best thing for the Browns because
- 50:10Speaker 1: you did not want I mean.
- 50:11Speaker 2: This is you don't want DTR to go off.
- 50:14Speaker 1: DTR comes in there and goes off, and you're like, well, wait,
- 50:16Speaker 1: we're with Deshaun Watson. Committed with financially, he's not going anywhere,
- 50:20Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, now you got every game, Like,
- 50:22Speaker 1: I don't know the other guy I think is better
- 50:23Speaker 1: than he is. Well, that was put. That was put
- 50:25Speaker 1: the rest quickly.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. The other thing I would say, in terms
- 50:29Speaker 2: of takeaways, the NFC South might be the Tampa Bay
- 50:33Speaker 2: Buccaneers division. And I'm going to tell you right now,
- 50:35Speaker 2: I don't know that I predicted it.
- 50:37Speaker 1: No, well, I don't think that division is decided by
- 50:39Speaker 1: any stretch. The only thing I would sell to atlant
- 50:41Speaker 1: Atlanta does not look good. That would be the other
- 50:45Speaker 1: side of it. But uh, I mean it's yeah, it's
- 50:48Speaker 1: it's gonna be. It's gonna be. Uh, it's theirs to win.
- 50:52Speaker 1: The Saints, I don't know what their deal is and
- 50:54Speaker 1: that's just, uh, that's a tough one to figure out.
- 50:56Speaker 2: That's why that's just thirty three yards for Alvin Kamara.
- 50:59Speaker 2: I don't even know.
- 50:59Speaker 1: That's the one of the one of the weirdest stat lines.
- 51:02Speaker 1: The Panthers, they are zero and four many. They don't
- 51:05Speaker 1: have anybody for Bryce Young. I feel bad for him.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I know there's probably some times he held the ball
- 51:10Speaker 1: a little bit long, but I don't know what they're
- 51:12Speaker 1: supposed to do with what he's working with. The Vikings
- 51:15Speaker 1: get a much needed win, Vikings sitting at one and three.
- 51:17Speaker 1: But I still feel like very much alive, very much.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Everything's still in front of them. I don't think that
- 51:22Speaker 1: division strung.
- 51:22Speaker 2: You'd like to think so, right, so they'll be okay,
- 51:26Speaker 2: this could really you know, we're talking about Bucky not
- 51:28Speaker 2: being here. He's going to go meet the day he
- 51:29Speaker 2: was in London to see the Jags. We'll get the
- 51:32Speaker 2: win over the Falcons, kind of hang on if they're
- 51:35Speaker 2: building an early lead. This could turn out to be
- 51:37Speaker 2: a kind of pivotal point for the Jags, a two
- 51:39Speaker 2: week stretch where they kind of get away from the
- 51:41Speaker 2: expectation state side, where they were struggling a little bit,
- 51:44Speaker 2: kind of come together on the road in London and
- 51:48Speaker 2: play two back to back game they get if they
- 51:50Speaker 2: beat the Bills. This I'm not saying they're going to
- 51:52Speaker 2: I don't and I won't pick them too, but this
- 51:55Speaker 2: this you'll look back on this as being like a
- 51:56Speaker 2: real pivotal stretch for Jackson.
- 51:58Speaker 1: No doubt. And we touched on the Niners a little
- 52:00Speaker 1: bit earlier. I mean, look, McCaffrey goes off. I mean
- 52:03Speaker 1: he was on un stoppable perty doesn't throw in completions.
- 52:06Speaker 1: It's again, they're on cruise They're on cruise control. Yeah,
- 52:09Speaker 1: one completion, they're on cruise control. And look that being said,
- 52:13Speaker 1: seventeen to ten and a half or sorry, twenty one
- 52:15Speaker 1: to ten at half. At least the Cardinals are they fight,
- 52:18Speaker 1: they get us there, Yeah, they end up. It's gosh,
- 52:19Speaker 1: what was it was twenty one to sixteen in the
- 52:21Speaker 1: third quarter of this game and they give up fourteen
- 52:23Speaker 1: and the fourth. So they're competing. They're competing, they're playing hard.
- 52:26Speaker 1: They don't have the guys they need, but it'll be
- 52:28Speaker 1: interesing to see what their timeline is with with Kyler.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, real quick before we go, just because it's
- 52:34Speaker 2: it's setting up that way at least as it stands
- 52:36Speaker 2: through four weeks, Bears with picks one in two. I know,
- 52:40Speaker 2: it's unbelievad Are you are you? Are you a quarterback?
- 52:43Speaker 2: Are you quarterbacking Arvin Harrison? Or you are quarterback and
- 52:47Speaker 2: offensive tackle?
- 52:48Speaker 1: No, I am quarterback in trade and get the farm
- 52:51Speaker 1: for the second quarterback. Hopefully you don't have to go
- 52:53Speaker 1: too far. Hopefully there's somebody that's in the top five.
- 52:56Speaker 1: That's that's Jones and who that second quarterback is still
- 52:59Speaker 1: get He's going to get one of her or then
- 53:01Speaker 1: you go to the tackle. Yeah, you get one of
- 53:03Speaker 1: those guys or a pass rusher. But to me, it's
- 53:06Speaker 1: never been more apparent. And Bryce Young is a great
- 53:08Speaker 1: example of this. If you're going to draft a young
- 53:11Speaker 1: quarterback the early part of his career, every resource goes
- 53:14Speaker 1: to offense. Apologize to your defensive coordinator. We will try
- 53:18Speaker 1: and help you out down the line, but right now
- 53:20Speaker 1: we are going to just collect as many weapons and
- 53:22Speaker 1: offensive lineman as we can and we'll fix the defense
- 53:25Speaker 1: down the road.
- 53:26Speaker 2: There you go.
- 53:27Speaker 1: But yeah, Bears, gosh there it's the the best and
- 53:32Speaker 1: the worst of times if you're a Bears fan, because
- 53:34Speaker 1: you can you can have some hope and optimism. Man,
- 53:37Speaker 1: first and second pick, Holy cred, we could really get
- 53:39Speaker 1: this in this draft. Yeah, oh yeah, it'd be a
- 53:42Speaker 1: lot of fun. Assuming all these guys don't just keep
- 53:44Speaker 1: the nil money and stay in college. Who knows? Who knows?
- 53:47Speaker 1: All right, well, if Safe travels to Buck, he'll be
- 53:50Speaker 1: back with us. I think maybe tomorrow he'll be back
- 53:52Speaker 1: on the show, so we'll have Bucky back with us
- 53:55Speaker 1: and see what he learned over in London as he
- 53:57Speaker 1: gets ready to head back to London once again. I
- 54:00Speaker 1: appreciate you, buddy, right well extent, we'll be back. I'll
- 54:03Speaker 1: see you tomorrow. All right, there you go, that's it.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Move the sticks. We'll see you next time right here,
- 54:11Speaker 1: m m m
