- 0:06Speaker 1: Let's dive into the topic of crisis versus crypto today.
- 0:09Speaker 1: How does the market play out with all of what's
- 0:11Speaker 1: happening in the Middle East. I'll break it down. My
- 0:13Speaker 1: name is Paul Barrel. Welcome back in the tech path.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Let's get going. I do want to thank our sponsor Coinbase.
- 0:17Speaker 1: You guys can get into crypto and your first trade.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Maybe you're thinking I need to diversify my assets. So
- 0:23Speaker 1: you're setting on a lot of cash and a money
- 0:25Speaker 1: market and you're thinking I need to go into some crypto. Well,
- 0:28Speaker 1: this is the place you can do it. All you
- 0:30Speaker 1: have to do is grab your bitcoin, your ethereum, get
- 0:33Speaker 1: in there, make a trade. Use our linked down below.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You'll get up to two hundred bucks in crypto to
- 0:38Speaker 1: get started, and you guys can begin your process. Let's
- 0:42Speaker 1: get into a lot of the news today, which, as
- 0:44Speaker 1: we all know, front and center is what's going on
- 0:47Speaker 1: with Israel and Iran. Trump now says he wants a
- 0:49Speaker 1: real end to the nuclear problem with the Iranians, and
- 0:53Speaker 1: of course Israel wants Kamini, which is essentially the leadership.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And you look at a few points within this, Trump
- 1:01Speaker 1: said his departure of the g seven summit, because he
- 1:03Speaker 1: kind of left says nothing to do. But he's working
- 1:05Speaker 1: on a deal with Israel and Iran. Maybe there's a
- 1:08Speaker 1: deal that is in the works. I hope something much
- 1:11Speaker 1: bigger than was expected. So he also is posturing. Remember
- 1:16Speaker 1: how Trump negotiates. He always puts out these bombastic statements
- 1:20Speaker 1: and these very lofty goals, and then he retraces back
- 1:25Speaker 1: down to a deal that's actually tolerable or more doable.
- 1:28Speaker 1: This is where I think he might be going with
- 1:31Speaker 1: the Iranian deal, if there is one brewing.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I want to go to this first clip because this
- 1:34Speaker 1: is him talking about that in terms of a ceasfire.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Take a look, well, specifically, is better than a ceasfire?
- 1:41Speaker 3: What are you're looking for here?
- 1:44Speaker 2: An a real end, not a ceasefire, And there's something
- 1:48Speaker 2: that will be a pumpetent or more giving up entirely.
- 1:53Speaker 2: The big question at this point, of course, guys, is
- 1:55Speaker 2: whether the US will join in with the Israeli's attacks
- 1:58Speaker 2: against Iran or whether they'll be continued to push for
- 2:00Speaker 2: a negotiated solution. The President posted on truth Social several
- 2:05Speaker 2: times about Iran overnight, but most recently saying that Iran
- 2:08Speaker 2: has not reached out for peace talks in any way,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and that if they want to negotiate, they know where
- 2:13Speaker 2: to find him. He also told reporters on that plane
- 2:16Speaker 2: that he was not quite in the mood to negotiate
- 2:19Speaker 2: with Iran. So all of that in play today. We
- 2:21Speaker 2: do expect the President to be weighing those options from
- 2:24Speaker 2: the situation room throughout the morning. A US official told
- 2:27Speaker 2: NBC News late last night that the President had asked
- 2:30Speaker 2: for his national security team to be ready and prepared
- 2:33Speaker 2: in the situation room when.
- 2:34Speaker 1: He got back. All right, So, as you can see,
- 2:36Speaker 1: there is a lot happening right now in d ced
- 2:39Speaker 1: Trump course on true social going right at it in
- 2:41Speaker 1: terms of an unconditional surrender. That's kind of the play,
- 2:45Speaker 1: and a lot of this is going to boil down
- 2:47Speaker 1: to how does the Middle East survive this in the
- 2:50Speaker 1: sense of economic but also in the element of reducing
- 2:54Speaker 1: the tensions right now, because I think that's the biggest
- 2:56Speaker 1: issue globally that we're facing. And when you think about
- 3:00Speaker 1: but leaving the G seven, because this is a very
- 3:02Speaker 1: important meeting that will set the course on a lot
- 3:05Speaker 1: of these trade deals, even though we know some of
- 3:06Speaker 1: them that are really kind of just a reprint of
- 3:09Speaker 1: what they've been talking about. But the point is is
- 3:12Speaker 1: that this is taking precedence, and I think that is
- 3:15Speaker 1: the thing you have to pay attention to in these markets.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Go to this clip right quick, because this one we'll
- 3:20Speaker 1: get into leaving the G seven early. Take a look
- 3:23Speaker 1: just looking.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Over the course of the day, there was a lot
- 3:25Speaker 4: of conversation about a path forward with Israel and Iran.
- 3:29Speaker 4: There was an effort by the leaders of the G
- 3:31Speaker 4: seven absent the US to kind of come to some
- 3:33Speaker 4: sort of unified agreement to tell those two countries to
- 3:36Speaker 4: de escalate, to stress the importance of doing that. President
- 3:39Speaker 4: Trump did not want to be part of that agreement
- 3:41Speaker 4: and had the opportunity to talk a bit about why
- 3:43Speaker 4: he thought that's the case. He began to push once
- 3:45Speaker 4: again for there being a diplomatic solution, said that iron
- 3:48Speaker 4: is effectively at the table because it has no other options.
- 3:51Speaker 4: It just raises a series of questions. Does that signal
- 3:54Speaker 4: that the US is bound to get more involved in
- 3:56Speaker 4: this conflict? And President Trump and his administration so far
- 3:59Speaker 4: have taken a back seat, so they didn't want to
- 4:01Speaker 4: get involved. Are things going to change or is he
- 4:04Speaker 4: going to have some sort of hand here in trying
- 4:05Speaker 4: to broker a temporary piece or a ceasefire in this crisis.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Hopefully that is the case. Is this takes precedence over
- 4:13Speaker 1: G seven and getting in alignment with what's going on
- 4:16Speaker 1: with the Iranians. Now you've got to look at where
- 4:19Speaker 1: the tariff situation is set up right now, because this
- 4:22Speaker 1: is important as well in terms of the economic side
- 4:24Speaker 1: of things. He did just tried or hopefully sign a
- 4:28Speaker 1: deal with the UK trade deal. This is after years
- 4:31Speaker 1: of trying to get it done. I don't know that
- 4:33Speaker 1: this is necessarily a big change from what we've seen
- 4:36Speaker 1: come out of the UK discussions in the past, but
- 4:38Speaker 1: he is going after beef, ethanol and aerospace, and maybe
- 4:43Speaker 1: we get some new entries into the markets that we
- 4:45Speaker 1: have not been expecting. That would be a good thing.
- 4:47Speaker 1: The other thing that comes from this is that we're
- 4:49Speaker 1: going to see a little bit of a domino effect.
- 4:52Speaker 1: This of course of the European Union saying that trade
- 4:54Speaker 1: talks with the US are now advancing, and remember the
- 4:57Speaker 1: US and the EU have been in odds with each
- 5:00Speaker 1: other for quite some time. This is I think a
- 5:03Speaker 1: bigger statement going forward and if we can get something
- 5:06Speaker 1: really hooked up with the EU, I think that would
- 5:08Speaker 1: again be very positive for the markets in general. And
- 5:11Speaker 1: then in Germany comes in saying that we're going to
- 5:13Speaker 1: have something by end of year. This is all very good,
- 5:16Speaker 1: especially coming out of Europe and also coming at a
- 5:19Speaker 1: time in which tensions in the Middle East are rising
- 5:23Speaker 1: and we need to solidify what's happening in the global
- 5:25Speaker 1: markets so that hopefully this administration can really focus in
- 5:30Speaker 1: on what's going on right now. And I want to
- 5:32Speaker 1: go in on a couple of things, because there are
- 5:35Speaker 1: some key issues that are spelling out within the markets,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and everybody knows Tomorrow's the FOMC. Wall Street analysts are
- 5:44Speaker 1: now saying, hey, next interest rate move could happen. There's
- 5:47Speaker 1: a few points that I want to get at. The
- 5:49Speaker 1: MACPI came in a little bit softer. That was a
- 5:51Speaker 1: good sign, and that's a very bullish sign. Central Bank
- 5:54Speaker 1: not only has a factor to implications of Trump's tariff policy,
- 5:58Speaker 1: but now they're dealing with this Middle East escalation. I
- 6:01Speaker 1: agree with that they've got a lot more on their mind.
- 6:04Speaker 1: And you've got to look at the jobs report that's
- 6:06Speaker 1: going to be coming out as well, now does Jerome
- 6:09Speaker 1: Palell get into more of an aggressive hold. That is
- 6:14Speaker 1: the question that we'll be answered tomorrow on the FOMC meeting.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Mainly this will come I think after the meeting itself,
- 6:20Speaker 1: and we'll get it into the press conference and it
- 6:22Speaker 1: will give us a little bit of an insight on
- 6:24Speaker 1: how this could turn out. In terms of rate cuts,
- 6:27Speaker 1: global central banks are cutting rates though, that is a
- 6:30Speaker 1: big deal. What we're seeing right now with world central
- 6:33Speaker 1: banks interest rate cuts fifteen times in May, fastest month
- 6:36Speaker 1: pace of the year. You look at this right here,
- 6:39Speaker 1: This is a chart of the central banks cut at
- 6:41Speaker 1: fastest pace in twenty five, twenty twenty five. You can
- 6:44Speaker 1: see the acceleration fifteen cuts. That's pretty big, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 1: when you look at what the rest of the world
- 6:50Speaker 1: is trying to do and not necessarily in a good
- 6:53Speaker 1: position I think in many cases to do it. One
- 6:56Speaker 1: thing to note on this chart is it goes back
- 6:59Speaker 1: to some of the key points in history de summer
- 7:02Speaker 1: of two thousand and eight. We understand the financial crisiss
- 7:05Speaker 1: came out of the savings alone debacle. A lot of
- 7:07Speaker 1: that led up through a run in two thousand and seven.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I know a lot of the triggers were there much
- 7:11Speaker 1: like what we're seeing even right now. And obviously we
- 7:13Speaker 1: know what happened in March of twenty twenty, and then
- 7:16Speaker 1: you look at September of last year, and then we rallied,
- 7:19Speaker 1: and then of course that was again a cut in
- 7:21Speaker 1: September of last year. And now could we get another
- 7:24Speaker 1: cut in the fall of this year and see a rally.
- 7:28Speaker 1: If we do, the rally could either spark something much longer,
- 7:32Speaker 1: or it could get you in a position where you
- 7:34Speaker 1: might want to take a look at where your market
- 7:37Speaker 1: position is long term, meaning do you start feathering out
- 7:41Speaker 1: of the market. That's a real question. I think a
- 7:43Speaker 1: lot of people are trying to time and it's very
- 7:45Speaker 1: difficult to do so, but it could be the thing
- 7:48Speaker 1: to watch for sure. Let me go over to this
- 7:50Speaker 1: Bloomberg clip clip because this is going to get into
- 7:53Speaker 1: something that I think is very important, and that is
- 7:55Speaker 1: US treasuries and most of that is being held and
- 7:58Speaker 1: really magnified. What's happening in Asia. Take a look.
- 8:02Speaker 5: It's seven point five trillion dollars worth of US investments
- 8:07Speaker 5: by Asian investors that has been building for the last
- 8:10Speaker 5: couple of decades. And so that is what is at stake.
- 8:15Speaker 5: What I have been reporting on, and my colleagues have
- 8:17Speaker 5: been reporting on, talking to life insurance, pension funds, head
- 8:21Speaker 5: of trading desks, is that there is a sense that
- 8:24Speaker 5: we are in pivotal moment in history where this Titanic
- 8:27Speaker 5: is finally turning. People are actively questioning should we have
- 8:32Speaker 5: that much?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Maybe it's not really about dedonarization. This story today, this week,
- 8:36Speaker 1: last week is really just about concerns around sustainability of
- 8:40Speaker 1: government debt.
- 8:40Speaker 5: It's not purely a US centric story. Although Trump's policies
- 8:45Speaker 5: on trade in particular and rewiring the US economy is
- 8:48Speaker 5: obviously exacerbating and augmenting the risks here. But definitely there
- 8:53Speaker 5: is a soul surging among rates traders. And you know
- 8:57Speaker 5: the term that we all know, bond vigilantes. Are they
- 9:00Speaker 5: actually gaining a power when all these dynamics are in play?
- 9:05Speaker 1: All right, So a couple of points with that is
- 9:08Speaker 1: what you're looking at coming out of Japan, but mostly Asia.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Seven and a half trillion. Yes, that's a big deal
- 9:14Speaker 1: because it can make up a compensation point around US treasuries. Now,
- 9:18Speaker 1: the likelihood is that you wouldn't see a total exit.
- 9:21Speaker 1: So let's assume at worst case, maybe a fifty percent
- 9:24Speaker 1: exit on the market. Now you have a lineup coming
- 9:27Speaker 1: in on stable coins, which of course use US treasuries
- 9:30Speaker 1: as a base. That all plays into what we're seeing
- 9:33Speaker 1: right here, and that is the US Senate who votes
- 9:36Speaker 1: today at four point thirty on the Genius Act. This
- 9:39Speaker 1: is a landmark stable coin bill. It will affect everything.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And I think when you look at one to one
- 9:44Speaker 1: cash t bow reserves as the core, this means that
- 9:48Speaker 1: we could see the US dollar opened up to the
- 9:51Speaker 1: world in a very easy way, meaning through crypto, through blockchain.
- 9:55Speaker 1: All of that could help soften the blow if Asia
- 9:59Speaker 1: does start to step away. And if you look at
- 10:01Speaker 1: the debt on what we're seeing right here as Wall
- 10:03Speaker 1: Street mav this is the US national debt continuing to climb.
- 10:07Speaker 1: And this is the thing that I think everybody is
- 10:09Speaker 1: concerned about. This is the dedollarization. This I think will
- 10:12Speaker 1: get into the concept of where stable coins could be going.
- 10:15Speaker 1: And that is the bullish side of what's going on
- 10:18Speaker 1: right now. Though yes, there's a conflict in the Middle East.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yes we have some you know, real conditions around what
- 10:25Speaker 1: that may resolve to but long term, the potential is
- 10:29Speaker 1: real around digital assets, and I think what we're going
- 10:32Speaker 1: to see today coming out of the Genius Act with
- 10:34Speaker 1: a passage of the Stable Cooin Bill will start to
- 10:37Speaker 1: shift things big. Now here's a clip from CNBC on
- 10:40Speaker 1: stable coins and why it's so critical to the United States.
- 10:43Speaker 6: Take a look, probably helping trying that they would help
- 10:47Speaker 6: in trying the dollars premier status around the globe and
- 10:51Speaker 6: even help the bond market because it has to be
- 10:53Speaker 6: backed with dollar base or if it's a dollar based
- 10:56Speaker 6: a stable coin, it needs to be backed with bombs.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Now, I think you're seeing how powerful stable coins are.
- 11:02Speaker 3: To your point, the way to think about a stable
- 11:04Speaker 3: coin is it's somewhere between the way it's being proposed
- 11:07Speaker 3: right now a money market fund and a savings account
- 11:10Speaker 3: or checking account at a bank. But it's so much
- 11:12Speaker 3: more powerful.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Think about you.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Having to send a Venmo, a zell a PayPal to
- 11:17Speaker 3: a swim instructor for your children, or pay your friend
- 11:20Speaker 3: for some event. Today you have to use an intermediary
- 11:24Speaker 3: who holds that money and makes interest on it. I
- 11:26Speaker 3: see a world where eventually stable coins will be the
- 11:29Speaker 3: main transaction mechanism for all payments throwing through the global economy,
- 11:33Speaker 3: and I think that's a huge innovation what we're seeing today.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Hopefully the Genius Act will be voted on in Congress
- 11:39Speaker 3: and passed, and that will lay the foundation for more
- 11:44Speaker 3: regulated stable coins. Right now, stable coins is a two
- 11:47Speaker 3: hundred and fifty billion dollar industry. Tether and Circle have
- 11:51Speaker 3: about ninety percent of that. But I wouldn't be surprised
- 11:54Speaker 3: if over the next twelve months you see many more
- 11:56Speaker 3: players entering the space. Because of how critical this is
- 11:59Speaker 3: going to be to payments and financial infrastructure.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I think that we are going to see, and this
- 12:06Speaker 1: would be my prediction, we're going to see a faster
- 12:10Speaker 1: a faster move on stable coin accommodation. And I think
- 12:14Speaker 1: there's a couple of reasons. Obviously, what we're seeing on
- 12:16Speaker 1: the pressure on US treasuries, but I think we're also
- 12:19Speaker 1: seeing at the same time the issue of what may
- 12:22Speaker 1: be a true shift in global e commerce. What I
- 12:25Speaker 1: mean by that is the moves of Stripe, the moves
- 12:28Speaker 1: of PayPal, the moves of what we'll see on many companies,
- 12:31Speaker 1: including retailers like Shopify. I think it's also likely that
- 12:35Speaker 1: we'll see all the social platforms potentially moving in, if
- 12:38Speaker 1: not also shoring up stable coins within these platform that
- 12:42Speaker 1: will be backed by US treasuries. That is all very positive,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and going forward it's going to become I think a
- 12:48Speaker 1: bit of a race. So I agree that yes, we're
- 12:51Speaker 1: going to see a big run up. I don't know
- 12:52Speaker 1: that it's going to be a gradual one. I think
- 12:55Speaker 1: it might be an all at once thing. I mean,
- 12:57Speaker 1: we've seen this in tech before, Gobal social. A lot
- 13:02Speaker 1: of what we're seeing now in the at least the
- 13:04Speaker 1: markers of what's happening in crypto remind me a lot
- 13:08Speaker 1: of those times and in those eras the market exploded.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So a two trillion to a three trillion I think
- 13:15Speaker 1: actually might be an underscore. We could see in where
- 13:17Speaker 1: between four to ten trillion that would be unbelievable. Big
- 13:23Speaker 1: news happening right now around the ripple cases, and of
- 13:26Speaker 1: course the ripple and the SEC one appeals to pause.
- 13:29Speaker 1: This is a little bit of the breakthrough ruling that
- 13:31Speaker 1: will be coming. And I think this is a big
- 13:34Speaker 1: issue right now because XRP suppressed has been suppressed for
- 13:37Speaker 1: quite some time. Could we see Q three as the
- 13:40Speaker 1: final relief rally? Now one thing that is breaking right
- 13:42Speaker 1: now is that XRP and the SEC, I should say,
- 13:46Speaker 1: the SEC is now calling for public comments on the
- 13:49Speaker 1: XRP ETF maybe And remember that Solana just today also
- 13:54Speaker 1: got delayed with their ETF. So the potential here maybe
- 13:59Speaker 1: XRP is going to be the first one out at
- 14:01Speaker 1: the gate. Could be something brewing there. Make sure and
- 14:04Speaker 1: stay tuned right here. If you guys are not subscribed
- 14:06Speaker 1: to the channel, by the way, do that right now.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Take a moment, because we do get into a lot
- 14:10Speaker 1: of these details. We will have a big show tomorrow
- 14:13Speaker 1: on not only what's happening with the Genius Act, but
- 14:15Speaker 1: because I think we're gonna have a stable coin that's
- 14:16Speaker 1: legal in the United States tomorrow morning, and what's going
- 14:20Speaker 1: to be happening with FMC and obviously Chairpal. So make
- 14:23Speaker 1: sure and hit that bell because that way they give
- 14:25Speaker 1: you notifications when we go live. Seven point four trillion
- 14:28Speaker 1: now setting in money market funds. He kind of mentioned
- 14:30Speaker 1: that in that last clip. Is that that's a big deal.
- 14:32Speaker 1: It's all time high. But imagine seven point four trillion
- 14:36Speaker 1: now competing with stable coins that could maybe get better
- 14:42Speaker 1: or equivalent rewards. Because I know a lot of banks
- 14:45Speaker 1: right now, that and even neo banks that are paying
- 14:48Speaker 1: sub four percent. Most of the crypto as you guys know,
- 14:51Speaker 1: crypto platforms out there playing paying right now over four percent.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Likelihood is we're going to see those kind of deals
- 14:58Speaker 1: coming in on stable coins from a lot more places,
- 15:01Speaker 1: and that I think is going to start to drain
- 15:03Speaker 1: a little bit of the money market because hey, listen,
- 15:05Speaker 1: half a point when you get into these kind of
- 15:07Speaker 1: numbers some point four trillion, that is a lot of
- 15:10Speaker 1: earnings and that is good, I think for US treasuries
- 15:13Speaker 1: as a whole. Tech stocs also when you look at
- 15:16Speaker 1: him to money supply. This is something kind of interesting
- 15:19Speaker 1: because I was a young engineer back around that time
- 15:22Speaker 1: right there, and I remember the run up that we
- 15:25Speaker 1: had in the dot bomb era. Now what I mean
- 15:27Speaker 1: by that is there were so many new companies launching
- 15:30Speaker 1: just boom boom, boom. The market was absolutely sploding, and
- 15:34Speaker 1: then we saw seven and a half trillion dollar retlacement
- 15:37Speaker 1: and that was when we saw the explosion of what
- 15:41Speaker 1: was the dot bomb that went all the way into
- 15:43Speaker 1: two thousand and two before we really saw a movement. Actually,
- 15:46Speaker 1: it was around two thousand and three before we started
- 15:48Speaker 1: seeing a movement going up, and that of course led
- 15:50Speaker 1: us right into the financial crisis, which was right here.
- 15:53Speaker 1: That's two thousand and eight. This has been the run
- 15:56Speaker 1: up though, right here outside of let's just forget the
- 15:59Speaker 1: pandemic for a moment. But had that not been there,
- 16:01Speaker 1: that big really shift of wealth was a huge one. Now,
- 16:06Speaker 1: will we see another blow off top I think yes,
- 16:10Speaker 1: the opportunity is there. There's enough going on in the
- 16:12Speaker 1: crypto market that this could occur. But be very cautious
- 16:15Speaker 1: on this next move up because this may be the
- 16:18Speaker 1: one that sets us up either for a infinite up
- 16:22Speaker 1: or it could see the retracement of a major market move.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Other things you got to look at is the coinbase
- 16:28Speaker 1: is seeking now sec approval to offer blockchain based assets.
- 16:31Speaker 1: This I think will just continue to grow the market,
- 16:33Speaker 1: especially around token I securities, and it may shore up
- 16:37Speaker 1: as positions for coinbase because they have been lacking in
