- 0:00What's going on, folks? We got a good, good, scary little episode.
- 0:08It's not even a little scary episode.
- 0:10A little, perhaps a little positive thing going on here. A little monster thing going on here.
- 0:17But let's make it happen, and welcome to the legendary podcast.
- 0:21The legendary host, D.C. So, it's not the podcast.
- 0:24I'm all over the place today.
- 0:27But as you're all over the place, that means that you're in a place and you're
- 0:30always in the right place at the right time and today you gotta you know i think
- 0:35i say it's not concentrated on halloween in itself but here in united states
- 0:41halloween it's around the corner so we have a nice little one kind of monster,
- 0:46boogie man type of deal and you know
- 0:49you might go back to my island and you
- 0:52know i'm here in new york settings making this podcast but i
- 0:56just wanted to remember um how when
- 0:59i was growing up i had a i can ask face i understand
- 1:03that in other countries like a little uh boogeyman story
- 1:06or in puerto rico why we call it a cuckoo yeah and google we're gonna kind of
- 1:13talk about why el cuco East in Puerto Rico And here in the United States Again
- 1:19And Pucco For the most funny Folklore Lose By adults Parents,
- 1:25Unc Adults To scare kids.
- 1:29Well just about everything and sadly you know let's see where
- 1:32we go let's go and google oh you know
- 1:35and then c-o you know c-u-c-o and
- 1:39yes and every touch if you have a little bit of cool thing going on
- 1:42or booking under a little folks who want to go to
- 1:45sleep early to eat that bad to eat
- 1:48the whatever the taste that is disgusting even if your pattern made it your
- 1:52mother being fat soup but you know what you ate it because they're cuckoo it's
- 1:58about to get you and let's get it on and you know what that was in puerto rico
- 2:02but for some reason coming to the united states that's cuckoo who came to crack at it.
- 2:06To my fellow brothers and sisters in the
- 2:10year in the upstairs in the car that i came to the united states a
- 2:12lot of my uh puerto rican boys and sisters was under
- 2:16the influence of certain drugs and basically the cuckoo story became about you
- 2:21don't want to think like the leader over there you know what i mean look like
- 2:24a zombie over there or you know under the influence of certain drugs you know
- 2:29what i mean if you grew up in the 80s like 80 90 in the park New York City and any other place.
- 2:36And the word of the United States you already know when I say drugs it can mean a lot of things.
- 2:41You know what I mean? But Google became that story.
- 2:44Here United States you don't want to be like your uncle and you got me and welcome
- 2:53to the DeChristophe Podcast.
- 2:56You already know hit that like button. You know what? Common if you are from
- 3:00a country that is a folklore where the time For the most part,
- 3:05one adult tells you these four adults who kind of scare you,
- 3:09and they're kind of getting you to do something.
- 3:13I'm not going to stay against your world, but you know, as a young kid,
- 3:17you know, and there's certain things that we kind of tend not to do or not.
- 3:22You know, we ain't mature.
- 3:24We don't fully comprehend what's the importance of sleeping,
- 3:26or whatever. when it comes to eating veggies or things to that effect.
- 3:32We don't fully comprehend.
- 3:34It's up to those who are 10-4. They're not a diet of wine.
- 3:38They should. But, you know, sometimes you start eating that carrot, you know what I mean?
- 3:44And then you'll be like, bleh. And then that's when the mother of your father,
- 3:49they give you those sad eyes.
- 3:50Like, you know, they don't want to smack you up, but they got to smell it for
- 3:54you. and that's where and.
- 4:02They use that kuko again boogie bed
- 4:04my understanding again i go back i'll try
- 4:08to do a little bit of research and you can't
- 4:11keep on where the story made them out for the most part if you look at other
- 4:15countries especially what those you know hispanic land countries but if mexico
- 4:20central and south america they all have kind of like a similar story and you
- 4:24know that a lot of times We started to add up a little, what did I say, Lutheran,
- 4:30for the most part, being that we were under the Spanish.
- 4:36Spanish, Spain, a lot of these countries in Latin America, so you could tell
- 4:42that, you know, that was brought up in Spain and a little combination of the natives.
- 4:46Those were the Ashton, the Hancors, let's say in this state, in Puerto Rico.
- 4:51You know, we might have either Soviet team or might have created a story of
- 4:57truth when Spain came in to kind of, you know,
- 5:01how can I say, stand away from, get out of this town, go, go,
- 5:07I'm about to get you, but the fact is,
- 5:10if you're in Puerto Rico they basically even if
- 5:13you're not living in Puerto Rico but you know grew up here you're
- 5:16born here you got people that are from the islands or elite people uh whether
- 5:21it's uh second generation third generation that you know were told about if
- 5:27you don't know how to tie your sneakers if you don't tie your sneakers or if you don't know how.
- 5:35And we're going to go to sleep at Cucco.
- 5:38It's all about El Cucco.
- 5:40That is one of those things that, despite that point, we might not necessarily
- 5:47gravitate to Halloween,
- 5:50even though despite the fact that, you know, Puerto Rico belongs to the United States, sadly.
- 5:56But, you know, there's a lot of simulation.
- 6:00The other day I'm in Puerto Rico and I'm in Home Depot. right there's how
- 6:04many home people they got these things uh where you could only
- 6:07you would think like okay who buys this great wall the
- 6:11grand reaper at $200 you put it on from your
- 6:13yard or whatever it is you know again that's more of
- 6:16an American thing I'm not saying people they're
- 6:20gonna do it because you will have people that ain't this
- 6:23and they gravitated to the Halloween and I kind
- 6:25of want to leave that little Halloween thing you have to do a little bit more
- 6:29podcast before i really start in regards to medical school over here i'm going
- 6:34to talk about it google and once again that google is only bringing up when
- 6:38it comes to some friends where again every time that you're not doing anything
- 6:43it's going off and google,
- 6:46there's no specific meaning how to describe it of this people and you know i
- 6:51guess you leave that also the imagination of the person that's been in the story
- 6:56and you as a young young kid don't you start to think like wow who provided like ten thousand horns.
- 7:04The kooka might be the youngest thing ever and then you know that's where
- 7:07the psyche of your mind works in because uh
- 7:10as we know you've got the halo effect and the opposite of the halo effect this
- 7:16is the horns effect you know that if you decide something looks or something
- 7:20then you're going to say oh that person is bad so it comes into that picture
- 7:25and you know as we grew up in you know, Christian household early.
- 7:31Kukor was meant to use that at times, especially with my mother and so on.
- 7:38My understanding is that I kind of distanced myself from there,
- 7:42but sadly, wherever you go in Puerto Rico as a young kid, that's all you hear
- 7:48is that Kukor, Kukor, Kukor.
- 7:50Now, in other parts of Kukor, which is UU, UU, and there's been an episode,
- 7:59if I'm not mistaken, I believe it was The X-Files.
- 8:03The X-Files, am I saying that right?
- 8:07Yeah, right? There was this, I'm trying to think here, there was a teen show,
- 8:13something with the Grimm, you know, and it's based on the Grimm Brothers story,
- 8:17but it was kind of modern, and there were a couple of episodes that did kind
- 8:21of talk about that fourth floor in the land called Keith.
- 8:25Once again, they call it Cucuoy or Cucu, you know, once again,
- 8:30because there are more of a population of Mexican and Central American,
- 8:34obviously, and South American and Puerto Ricans, and they have stimulated that
- 8:40situation to that store, to the main street at Cucuoy or some different.
- 8:46Okay i'm trying i think that is the name of the show but my angel that's i mean
- 8:50different masters ethics folklore stories you know what i mean like like the
- 8:55owner the name of you uh you know,
- 9:00you have one fucking whatever monster things and you know when it's that time
- 9:06with halloween kind of how can i stay up it enhances those thoughts and the
- 9:11stories with kuko again which is throughout,
- 9:15Yes, you don't hear those comments.
- 9:18If you're in Puerto Rico on towns or areas that are populated by 4 meters here
- 9:23in our United States, a kooko is a 24-year-old.
- 9:27Those stories, like, yo, if you don't do it, they're kooko.
- 9:32Why kooko? Man. Oh, man.
- 9:36I mean, with respect to my elders, I wonder how the hell did a kooko look like?
- 9:44You know what i mean because i i think that if let's say my parents my aunts
- 9:51my uncle whatever it is if their parents told them that the kuko had one horn
- 9:56by the time that it got to me it was like i thought it had 10.
- 10:00It looked at all of them looked crazy you know people can also kind of gravitate
- 10:05and stand when somebody's not looking people be like oh no you look like a kuko
- 10:10you look like a, you know, I'll give you a kubur.
- 10:12And I'm like, I don't know what the kubur look like, right?
- 10:15I understand it's not really a description of what it is. I guess we left it
- 10:19as a poor flood of man, an ancient man. We loved it.
- 10:23Something where it's dead. That will make you eat those veggies that you never ate.
- 10:29You know what I mean? Like, listen, we all do. We explain unopened. Unopened.
- 10:34They all do. Well, you know, made some stew there that just be so like kubur.
- 10:41And i and i think i let the whole bowl in the spoon i think i eat the bowl in the spoon,
- 10:47because they got down front of me that if i don't eat that boat i need that
- 10:51spoon but that's true and it's cool for it's about to get i just said so you
- 10:57know you want to close your eyes and you notice me but you want to wake up as
- 11:01fast as you can because you know what.
- 11:05The child you know the imagination goes crazy
- 11:09but any little thing that's like
- 11:12any little time is it you can pick that you know we got some adult like you
- 11:16can plan and they play it out you know what i mean and i think you know in my
- 11:21household they might have played out like the jungle is coming and there's a
- 11:24shadow like the fun i'll close my eyes i don't like my my You know,
- 11:29it's kind of like a title, no, in a sense.
- 11:31All right, let me pop a little pill there, and I'm out. I don't want to improve
- 11:36what you're going to make. I'm going to make that.
- 11:40But once again, if you are in those countries that ain't, listen,
- 11:44regardless of any weather, I see that my podcast is all over.
- 11:49We've got places, countries in Europe. You know, I see Germany, Italy.
- 11:53I see Spain. I see Russia.
- 11:56I see other countries in Africa.
- 12:00I wonder what is that between these people and where those elders lose.
- 12:06It kind of reminds me a little bit of this movie called The Village where,
- 12:11I'm going to spoil it for you, and my understanding of the village is that those buildings are.
- 12:15If you watch the movie, you think that the movie was made like 200 years ago,
- 12:19when he starts writing off the movie, to come and find out that there's a lot of people who are,
- 12:23there was these elders who would pretend something you
- 12:26know put on these uh students and smash and
- 12:29they're scary and kind of scared and people in
- 12:32those villages especially young people which have not
- 12:35kind of wandered off the village to find out that all
- 12:39along they've been living in modern times they're just that they've been village
- 12:42that they want to keep secret and they don't want the people to kind of run
- 12:46out the woods and whatever it is and i remember when i saw that movie i'm like
- 12:50what in the world is going on and i'm trying to land this individual,
- 12:57some people they're not in drug it's too slow but kind of have that fight it
- 13:01would be like so you kind of see that google kind of plays into that mind where
- 13:07you kind of can use it so that you can limit to where or how can i stay to you
- 13:15wonder to say you know what.
- 13:18I'm going to ride my bicycle, I'm not going to use this, I'm going to ride my bicycle.
- 13:23I'm not going to use this, you know, ball of food, you know what I mean?
- 13:27Because it's just nothing, so what I'd rather do is do this.
- 13:30So let me tell you to think that, hey, you ride your bicycle,
- 13:34that boogeyman's going to go after you, guess what?
- 13:39So that's the story. I mean, Robert Cooper, just to introduce that little folklore,
- 13:44once again, you know, the thing is, we kind of let the political culture find out what it is.
- 13:50A lot of these folklords, and I really enjoy folklords, and a lot of these folklords,
- 13:54especially if it's already oriented to that
- 13:57effect they all have these little kind of
- 14:00a little bit of a little bit of a little
- 14:03bit of a little bit of the new uh a little bit of
- 14:06that you know the thomas colonials are you
- 14:09know spanish a little bit of the native italianos and
- 14:12so on and all these vocals kind of like fade into
- 14:15this own little work and it becomes its
- 14:18own entity and that's where we come
- 14:21once again and let's get it it'd be up everybody know if it's a like comment
- 14:29so free to share enjoy your halloween but i finish all that we will hear from
- 14:36you and you know listen and subscribe to my podcast you know what's gonna get you,
- 14:42or me let's go take it out and i'ma see.
