Speaker 2: What we've got here is fail the new Kay.
• 0:32
Speaker 1: He's kind of a big deal.
• 0:34
Speaker 3: I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick
• 0:37
  Speaker 3: out am all.
• 0:39
Speaker 1: Out of bubble Dave Allen.
• 0:58
Speaker 4: But at least you can buy alcohol now, so you
• 0:59
Speaker 4: got there going for you right right? All right, Let's
• 1:02
Speaker 4: get to the Adopt Me Please sput of the Week
• 1:04
Speaker 4: and as always, pictures post to Dave Allen Radio and Facebook.
• 1:07
Speaker 4: Also the WCCHS network Facebook page, as well as my
• 1:10
Speaker 4: ex page. It's at David seventy. Tell us all about Henry.
• 1:15
Speaker 2: Uh So. Henry is one of the sweetest dogs I've
• 1:17
Speaker 2: met in my time at the shelter. He's about eight
• 1:20
Speaker 2: to nine years old, so if you love a senior dog,
• 1:23
Speaker 2: he is going to be a perfect option for you.
• 1:25
Speaker 2: He does well in play groups, he just he gets
• 1:28
Speaker 2: kind of put off by other male dogs. But he
• 1:30
Speaker 2: can coexist with other male dogs, he just doesn't like them.
• 1:33
Speaker 4: In his face. He must be like I am with people. Then,
• 1:36
Speaker 4: you know, he just kind of gets kind of get
• 1:38
Speaker 4: put off with people. Don't want him in my face.
• 1:39
Speaker 4: So I can relate Henry.
• 1:41
Speaker 2: I can relate, all right, Only ladies are welcome in
• 1:44
  Speaker 2: his face.
• 1:44
Speaker 4: Okay, I got it.
• 1:45
  Speaker 5: I got it.
• 1:47
Speaker 2: But we don't have any history on how he is
• 1:48
Speaker 2: a cat. He does great with kids, and he loves, loves,
• 1:52
Speaker 2: loves to play with toys, specifically anything that's in the
• 1:55
Speaker 2: shape of a tennis ball. But he's neutered, he's sponsored
• 1:59
Speaker 2: and ready to get out of the shelter. He's had
• 2:02
Speaker 2: such a rough start to his life that I would
• 2:05
Speaker 2: love more than anything to see him go.
• 2:07
Speaker 4: What do we know? You said that in your text
• 2:09
Speaker 4: to me that you that you send me prior to
• 2:10
Speaker 4: the show, that he'd had a rough life. What do
• 2:13
Speaker 4: we know about his life? I know there's probably not
• 2:15
Speaker 4: a lot, but what makes you think he had a
• 2:16
Speaker 4: rough life coming in?
• 2:18
Speaker 2: So essentially there's not a whole lot of details that
• 2:20
Speaker 2: I can share, but we'll just say that he came
• 2:22
Speaker 2: in as a cruelty case, okay, from his previous owners,
• 2:26
Speaker 2: and we'll call it like that.
• 2:28
Speaker 4: Okay, say that all right, sounds that sounds good. Meanwhile
• 2:31
Speaker 4: for that person, spot reserved in hell, all right, all right,
• 2:34
Speaker 4: So Henry would be a great, great dog. And again,
• 2:37
Speaker 4: that's one of the things that amazes me about these
• 2:39
Speaker 4: animals that we talk about every week, is there are
• 2:42
Speaker 4: so many of them, Manjie, as you well know, that
• 2:44
Speaker 4: have gone through horrific things. I mean absolutely, and don't
• 2:48
Speaker 4: I don't know. I'm not touch speaking about Henry specifically,
• 2:50
Speaker 4: but I mean animals and general that have gone through
• 2:53
Speaker 4: absolutely just devastating things. But still the tail still wagon.
• 2:57
Speaker 4: They still want to place, the play play with the kids,
• 3:00
Speaker 4: and they still want to go chase a tennis ball.
• 3:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I was thinking about this the other night,
• 3:06
Speaker 2: just about how amazing animals are in that fact of
• 3:08
Speaker 2: how easy they are to forgive and how loyal they
• 3:11
Speaker 2: are to people when people a lot of people most
• 3:14
Speaker 2: certainly don't deserve it. So I was actually thinking about
• 3:17
Speaker 2: that the other night.
• 3:18
Speaker 4: Well, let's try to get Henry home, because I mean,
• 3:20
Speaker 4: he's a great looking dog. What kind of dog any idea.
• 3:24
Speaker 2: So I would say I've been calling him a boxer
• 3:26
Speaker 2: of a different faunt. Boxers will typically come in that color,
• 3:30
Speaker 2: but I just say boxer and a different fault.
• 3:32
Speaker 4: He is a beautiful, beautiful dog. And again I mean
• 3:37
Speaker 4: checks all the boxes, man, I mean, you know, he's
• 3:39
Speaker 4: great with other calm dogs, great with kids, don't know
• 3:41
Speaker 4: about cats yet, but loves to play and for everything
• 3:46
Speaker 4: this dog has gone through is what you've told me.
• 3:49
Speaker 4: And I know you can't you know, can't tell us
• 3:50
Speaker 4: too much because it was a cruelty case. He's he's
• 3:53
Speaker 4: ready to go, and he needs to get out of
• 3:54
Speaker 4: the shelter and he needs to be in somebody's home.
• 3:57
Speaker 2: Absolutely, yeah, I just he is the perfect dog. I
• 4:02
Speaker 2: can't explain it enough. You see me stumbling over my words.
• 4:05
  Speaker 2: He's just a great dog.
• 4:06
Speaker 4: Well again, we want to you know, we do this
• 4:10
Speaker 4: feature every Friday, the Adopt Me Please put of the Week,
• 4:12
Speaker 4: and we always want our dogs adopted, but this one especially,
• 4:15
Speaker 4: I am calling on you listeners of this show, or
• 4:18
Speaker 4: if you know somebody that is looking for a great dog,
• 4:20
Speaker 4: and you will be the hero of the day, it
• 4:23
Speaker 4: perhaps the year if you go and you adopt this dog,
• 4:26
Speaker 4: because this dog has had a rough, rough life and
• 4:28
Speaker 4: he's still if dogs could smile, he's smiling. He's still
• 4:31
Speaker 4: ready to go be a great, great addition to your family,
• 4:34
Speaker 4: and we'll get we'll get back to Henry here in
• 4:36
Speaker 4: a couple of moments. I want to give props Angie
• 4:39
Speaker 4: to Kadak County Commissioner Lance Wheeler, because he's working with
• 4:43
Speaker 4: you guys, and I just saw this on your social media,
• 4:45
Speaker 4: trying to find homes for the longest serving residents of
• 4:49
Speaker 4: the shelter. Talk about that.
• 4:51
Speaker 2: Uh yeah, So we are very thankful for Commissioner Wheeler's
• 4:54
Speaker 2: idea to do that. Our long term residents often get
• 4:57
Speaker 2: overlooked because you know, you know their name, you know
• 5:00
Speaker 2: they look like and you just you know, you keep
• 5:01
Speaker 2: scrolling when you see it, usually because you know you
• 5:04
Speaker 2: know these dogs. But we're super thankful for Commissioner Wheeler
• 5:08
Speaker 2: for shining essentially a new spotlight on these dogs and
• 5:13
Speaker 2: sharing that same mission that we have of wanting to
• 5:16
Speaker 2: place even the ones that are kind of hard, harder
• 5:19
Speaker 2: to place but not harder to love. We we appreciate
• 5:22
Speaker 2: him also sharing that same mission and same belief with us.
• 5:25
Speaker 4: And speaking of dogs, that have been around a long time.
• 5:29
Speaker 4: I understand around New Year's the longest serving if you will,
• 5:34
Speaker 4: resident of the shelter. Herculess got adopted.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: Yes, we actually I could not believe it. I didn't
• 5:41
Speaker 2: know that that was happening. Like I just I could
• 5:43
Speaker 2: not believe that that was happening. Hercules had been in
• 5:46
Speaker 2: our shelter for almost two years, or you know, really
• 5:49
Speaker 2: close to that two year mark, and he's one of
• 5:53
Speaker 2: those dogs that needed a very very unique home with
• 5:56
Speaker 2: no kids, no other pets, adults only in the home
• 6:00
Speaker 2: and by a miracle, by the miracle of twenty twenty six,
• 6:04
Speaker 2: as I'm calling it, that perfect home walk through the
• 6:06
Speaker 2: door right before we closed on New Year's Eve.
• 6:08
Speaker 4: I mean, how cool is that? You can't write a
• 6:10
Speaker 4: better Hollywood script than that, Angie?
• 6:12
Speaker 2: I know, and I am hoping an agent is listening
• 6:15
Speaker 2: and that story up.
• 6:17
Speaker 4: All right, all right, definitely, if we have a lot
• 6:20
Speaker 4: of agents that listen to this show, then let's make
• 6:22
Speaker 4: this happen. But Dave Allen Show on five Eddie Lives
• 6:24
Speaker 4: brought to you apart by Live Healthy West Virginia presented
• 6:26
Speaker 4: by WVU Medicine, a podcast promoting healthy your lifestyles than
• 6:30
Speaker 4: to be on the state. Check capt of latest episodes
• 6:32
Speaker 4: wv metronews dot com in to the podcast menu. A
• 6:35
Speaker 4: couple of texts here for you. Angie one says, are
• 6:36
Speaker 4: there any updates that can be shared about the sweet
• 6:38
Speaker 4: young puppy that was found in a grocery cart at
• 6:41
Speaker 4: lu Kroger It was having seizures? Also does anyone know
• 6:45
Speaker 4: what the siblings are safe? Textas says read online that
• 6:48
Speaker 4: they were too way too young to be taken away
• 6:51
  Speaker 4: from their mama.
• 6:51
Speaker 6: I know you do.
• 6:52
Speaker 4: You had the picture and the story posted on the
• 6:54
Speaker 4: Facebook page of the shelter. What can you tell us
• 6:56
Speaker 4: about that particular case?
• 6:58
Speaker 2: I'm I finally have some wonderful updates on that puppy.
• 7:03
Speaker 2: The solid black puppy is eating on its own now,
• 7:06
Speaker 2: it's alert and it's it's still in our ICU unit
• 7:09
Speaker 2: to be monitored, but it's been just nothing but progress
• 7:14
Speaker 2: since that night. So that puppy is doing wonderful and
• 7:18
Speaker 2: we actually got the two siblings as well. I do
• 7:21
Speaker 2: believe their names are Ginger, Salt and Pepper if you
• 7:24
Speaker 2: want to call and get updates on them. But everyone
• 7:27
Speaker 2: is doing great so far.
• 7:28
Speaker 4: All right, you guys outed about anywhere this weekend.
• 7:31
Speaker 2: We are not. We're going to take the new year
• 7:34
Speaker 2: in just at CASEYHA will be open from twelve to
• 7:37
  Speaker 2: five Saturday.
• 7:38
Speaker 4: And Sunday, so all right, well, certainly you deserve a
• 7:41
Speaker 4: little bit of a rest. We have another text here,
• 7:43
Speaker 4: so are there any of your puppies going to be
• 7:46
Speaker 4: in a puppy bowl this year?
• 7:49
Speaker 2: That I do not believe so I have not received
• 7:53
Speaker 2: any emails about it. But our other community engagement director, Sarah,
• 7:57
Speaker 2: she might have had some comms on that. So if
• 7:59
Speaker 2: I find out that information for her, I will definitely
• 8:03
Speaker 2: let you know and we can talk about that next week.
• 8:06
Speaker 4: All right, as we head into the new year. Any
• 8:08
Speaker 4: wants and needs, I know you guys always need the
• 8:11
Speaker 4: puppy chow and the things like that. Anything in particular
• 8:14
Speaker 4: that you're in need of.
• 8:16
Speaker 2: Wet food for both cats and adult dogs and puppies,
• 8:19
Speaker 2: and we're not picky on brands for that. And then
• 8:22
Speaker 2: your typical cleaning supplies. We go through paper, towels, steel
• 8:26
Speaker 2: woolf scrubbers, dishwashing liquid, and laundry detergent very quickly. So
• 8:30
Speaker 2: any type of cleaning supply we will make you so.
• 8:32
Speaker 4: And we want to make sure that people realize because
• 8:34
Speaker 4: so many people, ang you listen to this segment every
• 8:36
Speaker 4: week and they visit you guys, they folly win social
• 8:38
Speaker 4: media and they want to be able to help, but
• 8:40
Speaker 4: they're not always in a position to be able to adopt,
• 8:43
Speaker 4: or sometimes not even in a position to be able
• 8:45
Speaker 4: to foster, as you have many wonderful foster families. There
• 8:47
Speaker 4: are so many ways that you can help out the
• 8:49
Speaker 4: shelter that don't involve ever getting an animal. If you're
• 8:52
Speaker 4: an animal lover, so many things you can.
• 8:54
Speaker 2: Do to help, absolutely, And if you're not in a
• 8:57
Speaker 2: position to volunteer your time, which I understand the busy,
• 9:00
Speaker 2: trust me, and you aren't in a position. I know
• 9:03
Speaker 2: we're coming off of Christmas, so you're not really in
• 9:05
Speaker 2: a spot to donate supplies either. Just sharing the word
• 9:09
Speaker 2: and telling people about you know, our needs and our pets,
• 9:12
Speaker 2: and you know, choosing to adopt over purchasing from a
• 9:15
Speaker 2: store or a breader. That makes also as much of
• 9:18
Speaker 2: a difference as adopting a pet. Wood. So yes, the
• 9:21
Speaker 2: word of mouth goes a long way.
• 9:22
  Speaker 7: It does.
• 9:23
Speaker 4: Indeed, Angie, always a pleasure. Happy New Year. We'll talk
• 9:25
Speaker 4: to you next week.
• 9:26
Speaker 8: Thanks a lot, Happy MEA thank you Angie.
• 9:28
Speaker 4: Gilllawana from the Canal Charleston, HU Maine Association with this
• 9:30
Speaker 4: week's Adopt Me please put of the week again. Head

Speaker 4: on Facebook or at Dave A seventy on x or
• 9:38
Speaker 4: the WCS network Facebook page as well. Check out Henry.
• 9:42
Speaker 4: Henry is about eight or nine years old, got a
• 9:44
Speaker 4: little boxer in him, He's neutered, he's housebroken, he's great
• 9:48
Speaker 4: with kids, great with calmer dogs, loves his toy, lives
• 9:51
Speaker 4: his life for a tennis ball. But the more important
• 9:55
Speaker 4: thing we want to take away from the segment this
• 9:57
Speaker 4: week about Henry, guys, is that this is a dog
• 10:00
Speaker 4: and and she couldn't go into a lot of details.
• 10:02
Speaker 4: This was a dog that came from a horrific abuse situation.
• 10:05
Speaker 4: And despite the fact that this dog has gone through
• 10:09
Speaker 4: unimaginable things, the dog still, if dogs could smile, the
• 10:15
Speaker 4: dog is smiling and still just wants to play and
• 10:17
Speaker 4: wants to have fun. So before you go to a breeder,
• 10:20
Speaker 4: don't get me started on that or anything like that.
• 10:23
Speaker 4: You want a great dog eight or nine years old,
• 10:25
Speaker 4: A little bit of an older dog, still loves to play,
• 10:27
Speaker 4: loves his toys, loves kids, housebroken, neuter. Henry is your dog.
• 10:31
Speaker 4: I'm begging you please go take a look at Henry again.

Speaker 4: Appreciate that. Welcome into the show now, Kanawkundy School Superintendent
• 13:00
Speaker 4: Paula Potter, Good morning and happy new year. Welcome to
• 13:03
  Speaker 4: the show.
• 13:04
Speaker 9: Thank you, Happy new year.
• 13:05
Speaker 4: Last time we had you on the show, we talked
• 13:07
Speaker 4: about school closures due to weather. Not much to report
• 13:10
Speaker 4: from that department over the last couple of days, thankfully, superintendent. Fully, so,
• 13:16
Speaker 4: you know that's that's some good news. But you know,
• 13:18
Speaker 4: winter's not over yet. But I don't know about you,
• 13:20
Speaker 4: but I'm kind of enjoying these sixty degree temperatures. I
• 13:23
Speaker 4: don't know about you, but I am.
• 13:24
Speaker 9: I am enjoying them as well.
• 13:26
Speaker 4: All right, I want to talk about cell phones in
• 13:28
Speaker 4: the classroom. A little background here. Last year, Superintendent, the
• 13:31
Speaker 4: legislature passed HB two zero zero three, which mandated that
• 13:36
Speaker 4: county boards of education developed some sort of policy as
• 13:39
Speaker 4: it pertains to cell phones and tablets. The policy in Kanawa,
• 13:43
Speaker 4: as best I understand, the band's elementary and middle school
• 13:45
Speaker 4: students from having their devices at school at all, and
• 13:49
Speaker 4: high school can only have them out between between classes
• 13:52
Speaker 4: and during lunch. How's it going so far? Overall? Then
• 13:56
Speaker 4: we'll break it down from there.
• 13:57
Speaker 9: Well, I think we've had a really positive start with
• 14:01
Speaker 9: this policy. You know, during the summer, once legislative was passed,
• 14:07
Speaker 9: invited students to the board office to talk to me
• 14:09
Speaker 9: about their thoughts and opinions on what would work and
• 14:12
Speaker 9: what might not work, you know, based on their opinions,
• 14:16
Speaker 9: and of course we had some really strong opinions of
• 14:20
Speaker 9: what should and shouldn't happen, you know, And anyway, I
• 14:24
Speaker 9: think we came up with some common grounds with the
• 14:26
Speaker 9: student input. I think the county did a really great
• 14:29
Speaker 9: job communicating that with parents and with students and with
• 14:33
Speaker 9: teachers about what the expectations are so that we do
• 14:36
Speaker 9: follow the legislation. So it's been implemented, and of course
• 14:41
Speaker 9: we've had some students violate the policy. You know, we
• 14:43
Speaker 9: have students who you know, violate all types of rules.
• 14:47
Speaker 9: We deal with that and move forward. We saw maybe
• 14:50
Speaker 9: a steeper infractions at the beginning of the school year.
• 14:56
Speaker 9: Those have steadily decreased. I think everyone has just kind
• 15:00
Speaker 9: of settled into what we are considering appropriate use of
• 15:05
Speaker 9: cell phones and what we're deeming its appropriate use of
• 15:09
Speaker 9: cell phones, of course is not to be out during
• 15:11
Speaker 9: instructional time, and so many students that I talk to
• 15:14
Speaker 9: will admit that they it has helped them focus more
• 15:19
Speaker 9: in class. You know, a cell phone can be a distraction.
• 15:22
Speaker 9: I'm sure it is for all of us. I know,
• 15:24
  Speaker 9: if I'm in a meeting and my phone's beeping, it's
• 15:26
Speaker 9: hard not to look at it and see.
• 15:27
Speaker 4: What you know, that's what That's why when you said
• 15:30
Speaker 4: in meetings, most people, you know, either don't bring them
• 15:32
Speaker 4: in or what they should do is turn them upside
• 15:34
Speaker 4: down with silence, so they're not they're not as apt
• 15:37
Speaker 4: to want to take a look at them.
• 15:38
Speaker 9: Correct, And so I do think this is a great
• 15:41
Speaker 9: policy that is helping our students develop those you know,
• 15:45
Speaker 9: lifelong skills, work based skills that they need. That you know,
• 15:49
Speaker 9: a cell phone isn't something that you have to have
• 15:51
Speaker 9: on twenty four to seven, and in some cases it's
• 15:53
Speaker 9: not appropriate to have on. And I think our teachers
• 15:56
Speaker 9: are very happy that that distraction has been eliminating and
• 16:01
Speaker 9: you know, an unattended or maybe it was intended. We
• 16:05
Speaker 9: are seeing less of the you know, online bullying during
• 16:09
Speaker 9: the school day, which is always a bonus to not
• 16:12
Speaker 9: have to deal with so many of those issues during
• 16:14
Speaker 9: the school day. So all in all, it's been you know,
• 16:18
Speaker 9: a pretty successful implementation of new rules, and we just
• 16:23
Speaker 9: are going to continue to work with those students that
• 16:26
  Speaker 9: continue to have.
• 16:26
  Speaker 6: Some violation well.
• 16:28
Speaker 4: And I think it's very important, as you pointed out,
• 16:30
Speaker 4: and again we're talking with Paula Potter, these superintendent of
• 16:32
Speaker 4: Kanawha County Schools. I think it's very important to reiterate
• 16:36
Speaker 4: what you said at the beginning of the segment, is
• 16:39
Speaker 4: is that you know there's going to be violations of
• 16:41
Speaker 4: every rules. I was a kid once back in the
• 16:43
Speaker 4: late eighteen hundreds, and I remember going to school and
• 16:46
Speaker 4: you know, there's going to be violations of things like
• 16:48
Speaker 4: going up the wrong stairs in my school had specific
• 16:51
Speaker 4: stairs you were supposed to go up. And there's going
• 16:53
Speaker 4: to be violations of little things like gum chewing. There's
• 16:55
Speaker 4: going to be violations of all these things. This is
• 16:58
Speaker 4: not really any different, is what you're telling me, right.
• 17:01
Speaker 9: Correct, It's no different. And you know, I do want
• 17:04
Speaker 9: to give a shout out to our students. I think
• 17:06
Speaker 9: for the most part, our students do try to follow
• 17:08
Speaker 9: the rules. You know, Like you said, there's just times
• 17:11
Speaker 9: when somebody you know, for whatever reason, doesn't make the
• 17:14
Speaker 9: best choice. And you know, again, we have consequences that
• 17:17
Speaker 9: are in place. We are not as with all of
• 17:21
Speaker 9: our rules, you know, trying to blow anything out of proportion.
• 17:24
Speaker 9: I know that we have developed processes for parents if
• 17:29
Speaker 9: they need to get a hold of their child during
• 17:31
Speaker 9: the school day. You know, I always laughed and said,
• 17:33
Speaker 9: when I was in school, we didn't even have a
• 17:35
Speaker 9: cell phone, and I seem to make it okay till
• 17:38
Speaker 9: the end of the day to talk to to my parent.
• 17:41
Speaker 9: But you know, again, our times have changed, you know,
• 17:44
Speaker 9: constant or immediate opportunities to communicate with people, and so
• 17:49
Speaker 9: it's been an adjustment for everyone, and again, I think
• 17:53
Speaker 9: it's been a positive adjustment and it's allowed people to
• 17:56
Speaker 9: have a, you know, just a laser focus on what
• 17:58
Speaker 9: we're supposed to be doing at school.
• 18:00
Speaker 4: And I want to talk about the parents for a moment,
• 18:03
Speaker 4: because studies have shown that prior to West Virginia ever
• 18:07
Speaker 4: passing this legislation, Superintendent, that in other areas, parents were
• 18:12
Speaker 4: the ones seem to have a more difficult time getting
• 18:14
Speaker 4: a handle on this the kids. And I have read
• 18:17
Speaker 4: article after article, I've seen TV a TV report when
• 18:20
Speaker 4: they would sit down with a group of kids and
• 18:22
Speaker 4: they would ask them. They would say, well, how did
• 18:23
Speaker 4: you do How are you handling this? And they would say, well,
• 18:26
Speaker 4: it was kind of rough at first, so on and
• 18:27
Speaker 4: so forth, but gradually we got used to it. In
• 18:30
Speaker 4: many cases, though, Superintendent, the parents are the ones that
• 18:33
Speaker 4: have a little bit more separation anxiety than what the
• 18:36
  Speaker 4: kids do.
• 18:38
Speaker 9: I do think that's true, and I do think, you know,
• 18:41
Speaker 9: in ourday, in today's world, safety is always at the
• 18:45
Speaker 9: forefront of everyone's mind, and you know, unfortunately, we've had
• 18:49
Speaker 9: incidences that have happened over you know, throughout the United
• 18:53
Speaker 9: States that as a parent, you know, I'm a parent too.
• 18:58
Speaker 9: You know you think if maybe a worst case in it,
• 19:00
Speaker 9: and you want to be able to get in touch
• 19:03
Speaker 9: with your child. But we've tried to communicate to everyone
• 19:07
Speaker 9: In other states where things have happened and people have
• 19:09
Speaker 9: had their cell phones, the lines get blocked very quickly
• 19:14
Speaker 9: when everyone's trying to make phone calls, you know, all
• 19:17
Speaker 9: of those things. So again, we just want parents to
• 19:20
Speaker 9: know that we will do everything that we can. If
• 19:23
Speaker 9: they have something that they do need to talk to
• 19:25
Speaker 9: their child about, they can call the school and get
• 19:29
Speaker 9: a message to their child. And I think we do
• 19:33
Speaker 9: the very best that we can to have communications with
• 19:36
Speaker 9: parents and families at times when it's necessary.
• 19:40

• 20:07
Speaker 4: How are things going on? What's got you excited these
• 20:09
Speaker 4: days about knawh County schools.
• 20:12
Speaker 9: Well, the students and our and our teachers have me
• 20:14
Speaker 9: most excited about Kanaw County schools. We have great things happening,
• 20:18
Speaker 9: from students winning academic awards all the way to winning
• 20:23
Speaker 9: athletic contests, to just students coming to school and sharing
• 20:27
Speaker 9: their great personalities with us. So that's what has us
• 20:30
Speaker 9: most excited. Our first semester is quickly wrapping up and
• 20:34
Speaker 9: second semester starts, so you know we're in the you know,
• 20:39
Speaker 9: the midst of things, and we just want to remind
• 20:42
Speaker 9: parents as we do. Our main focus is on, you know,
• 20:44
Speaker 9: getting kids to school and on time. That's an important
• 20:48
Speaker 9: aspect of attendance and that's a work pay based skill
• 20:52
Speaker 9: that will help you all through life. And we know
• 20:54
Speaker 9: they can learn the best if they are at school,
• 20:56
Speaker 9: so you know, we are continuing to push that, and
• 20:59
Speaker 9: then we're just making sure our students are making the
• 21:01
Speaker 9: academic progress that they need to make to be successful
• 21:04
Speaker 9: in their next step. Whether it's next year as a
• 21:07
Speaker 9: grade level, or if they're graduating, if they're going to work,
• 21:10
Speaker 9: if they're going to career technical college, or if they're
• 21:13
Speaker 9: going to college. It's just very exciting to see everybody mature.
• 21:17
Speaker 9: Halfway point, there's so students are so different than at
• 21:20
Speaker 9: the beginning of the school year, and it's just very
• 21:24
Speaker 9: positive to see the gains that students are making at
• 21:27
  Speaker 9: this halfway point.
• 21:28
Speaker 4: Before we let you go, the legislative session gets under way,
• 21:31
Speaker 4: as I mentioned the top of the show, Superintendent gets
• 21:34
Speaker 4: underway Wednesday, they'll gavele in, the Governor will give his
• 21:37
Speaker 4: speech Wednesday night, and then they'll get down to business
• 21:39
Speaker 4: on Thursday. I'm not going to put you on the
• 21:40
Speaker 4: spot anything particular, but is there anything any message that
• 21:44
Speaker 4: Canaw County Schools would like to have to the legislature
• 21:47
Speaker 4: going through Anything that you'd like to say, Hey, can
• 21:49
Speaker 4: you take a look at this, can you focus on this,
• 21:51
Speaker 4: or what are you looking forward out of the upcoming
• 21:52
Speaker 4: legislative session, because I know you educators will be keeping
• 21:55
Speaker 4: a close eye on the session.
• 21:57
Speaker 9: Yes, you know, our focus has always been we would
• 22:01
Speaker 9: just like to have a positive partnership with everyone, including
• 22:04
Speaker 9: the legislators for public education. I'm not sure positivity always
• 22:10
Speaker 9: is the best selling point, but I strongly believe in
• 22:14
Speaker 9: what public school has to offer all students. I do
• 22:17
Speaker 9: think it's a method that we can educate everyone and
• 22:22
Speaker 9: help our students be have a better future than what
• 22:25
Speaker 9: you and I have as adults. Our goal is always
• 22:28
Speaker 9: to be to try to create a younger generation than
• 22:33
Speaker 9: it's better than our generation. And I hope that everyone
• 22:36
Speaker 9: that considers laws or policies or procedures has all that
• 22:40
Speaker 9: in the forefront of their mind too, so that our
• 22:43
Speaker 9: young people can begin to create a better community and
• 22:48
Speaker 9: environment than what we have right now.
• 22:50

• 23:08
Speaker 4: I've said You've heard me say this on the program
• 23:09
Speaker 4: went back to the cell phones for a moment. I've
• 23:11
Speaker 4: heard me say this on the program before you know,
• 23:13
Speaker 4: full disclosure, old guy, fifty five years old, No kids,
• 23:17
Speaker 4: been a whole long time since I was in public school.
• 23:20
  Speaker 4: I just, I guess I just don't understand, as doctor
• 23:24
Speaker 4: Potter alluded to, there, what changed over the years in
• 23:29
Speaker 4: this thing with a lot, a lot, not all, with
• 23:31
Speaker 4: a lot of parents feeling the need to be in
• 23:34
Speaker 4: contact with their kids all day. You know, again, you
• 23:39
Speaker 4: when you make these statements say well, and I was
• 23:41
Speaker 4: in school, Well, I mean it's true. I mean, you
• 23:44
Speaker 4: know when as a kid of the seventies and eighties
• 23:47
Speaker 4: in public school, we got on the bus seven seven fifteen.
• 23:51
Speaker 4: We didn't talk to our parents all day. I mean,
• 23:53
Speaker 4: and if there were, if there was a reason for
• 23:58
Speaker 4: mom or dad to get they would call the office,
• 24:02
Speaker 4: leave a message if they could if not, and we
• 24:04
Speaker 4: respected it. We didn't get texts throughout the day saying
• 24:07
Speaker 4: don't forget you have Little League practice tonight, or you've
• 24:09
  Speaker 4: got Scouts.
• 24:09
  Speaker 10: Now.
• 24:09
Speaker 4: You just remembered it, you know, when you left the house,
• 24:12
  Speaker 4: I just said, okay, don't don't forget. You've got this
• 24:15
Speaker 4: coming up at four o'clock. In, We'll be on your
• 24:17
Speaker 4: backside if you forgot. I mean that, it's just that simple.
• 24:21
Speaker 4: And you know, you've heard me on this show talk
• 24:24
Speaker 4: about parents that take their kids to school as well,
• 24:27
Speaker 4: And I'm not talking about every situation. I realized that
• 24:30
Speaker 4: there are parents that it's a lot easier for them
• 24:33
Speaker 4: for their work situation or whatever. But you can't tell
• 24:35
Speaker 4: me that when I drive through that that drive through line.
• 24:39
Speaker 4: I've started leaving my house earlier because there's an elementary
• 24:41
Speaker 4: school just down from my house, and if you try
• 24:43
Speaker 4: to leave at seven, you know, forget about it, it's
• 24:45
Speaker 4: gonna gonna be waiting a while. So I've taken upon
• 24:48
Speaker 4: myself to leave a little earlier. Now that's on me.
• 24:52
  Speaker 1: The parent.
• 24:53
Speaker 4: The amount of parents that take their kids to school
• 24:55
Speaker 4: that when there's no reason for it, I mean jobs,
• 24:59
Speaker 4: I get that, okay in some cases, but in all
• 25:01
Speaker 4: the cases, I mean, you know, really, we would have
• 25:05
Speaker 4: been mortified, I mean absolutely mortified had we been seen
• 25:10
Speaker 4: whether our parents taken us to school when I was
• 25:12
  Speaker 4: a kid. When I was a kid, I mean, we
• 25:14
Speaker 4: didn't want our our friends to know we had parents.
• 25:17
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, you go to a school event
• 25:19
Speaker 4: like a dance or basketball. Now just drop me off
• 25:21
Speaker 4: half mile down the road. I walk. I mean, I
• 25:25
Speaker 4: just don't realize what changed over the years. I mean
• 25:28
Speaker 4: not good, bad again, nonparent, non, I gotta say non
• 25:31
Speaker 4: grandparent of my age, because of my age. I just
• 25:34
Speaker 4: I don't understand what changed, you know, from the nineteen

Speaker 4: Had a little medical procedure done yesterday. Still trying to
• 29:24
Speaker 4: get some questions answered and I'll know more on the
• 29:27
Speaker 4: coming days. The chart what kind of course of action
• 29:32
Speaker 4: I'll be taken for possible possible cancer.
• 29:35
Speaker 6: But it's all good either way.
• 29:37
Speaker 4: One thing you can be as sure of is I'm
• 29:38
Speaker 4: gonna make fun of the entire thing and will not
• 29:41
Speaker 4: take a single thing seriously, just so you know, because
• 29:45
  Speaker 4: that's what I do.
• 29:46
Speaker 12: You should probably take the medical procedures like not aod
• 29:50
Speaker 12: in the hospital stuff a little lighthearted, but maybe like
• 29:54
Speaker 12: not making those decisions.
• 29:56
Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I go and I do what they
• 29:59
Speaker 4: tell me to do. If you think I'm going to
• 30:00
Speaker 4: sit here and just or lay there and just say,
• 30:03
Speaker 4: you know, well what was now? I got I got
• 30:05
Speaker 4: stuff to do, man, I got stuff to do, so
• 30:08
Speaker 4: I I got time for this.
• 30:10
Speaker 6: I've been thinking about it.
• 30:11
Speaker 4: The voice you hear is Greg Thomas. Hey you doing man?
• 30:13
Speaker 6: Doing well? Have a good holiday season. We did busy, man.
• 30:17
Speaker 12: I you know when you got like kids and travel
• 30:20
Speaker 12: and you know, grandparents and stuff back and forth, like
• 30:24
Speaker 12: the whole like two weeks was like over of the
• 30:26
Speaker 12: kids being off school, and I had like one half
• 30:29
Speaker 12: day off one day and one after you know what
• 30:31
Speaker 12: I mean. I like looked at my schedule and I
• 30:33
Speaker 12: was like, I'm not going to get any any rest.
• 30:35
Speaker 4: Got to go back to work and get the kids
• 30:36
Speaker 4: back at school so you can get some rest.
• 30:38
Speaker 6: Get to get a little rest. I've been busy all week.
• 30:41
Speaker 4: Sessions coming up next week, of course, the governor will
• 30:43
Speaker 4: give the State of the State. We'll get to that
• 30:44
Speaker 4: a little bit later on, but first of all, grade
• 30:46
Speaker 4: the Republican Party, uh, we'll have their winter meeting tomorrow
• 30:49
Speaker 4: in Charleston. I'm the well, I don't want to say
• 30:52
Speaker 4: on the schedule because I don't know what the schedule is,
• 30:53
Speaker 4: but there's a possibility they say that there could be
• 30:56
Speaker 4: some talk about the uh, the opening the party back up.
• 31:01
Speaker 4: Of course, twenty twenty four, I guess it was the
• 31:03
Speaker 4: Republicans made the decision to close the primary for Independence
• 31:07
Speaker 4: last night. I understand got some info before the show
• 31:10
Speaker 4: that from Jackson County, the Jackson County GOP last night
• 31:16
Speaker 4: voted in favor of keeping the primaries closed. That was
• 31:19
Speaker 4: in Jackson County County Kanawh County has already done a
• 31:22
Speaker 4: resolution for that. Spoke to some folks where I live
• 31:25
Speaker 4: in Putnam County, they say that that wasn't even brought
• 31:27
Speaker 4: up there as far as far as what I understand,
• 31:29
Speaker 4: unless I misunderstood if it's not even been brought up there.
• 31:32
Speaker 4: Joe Manchin on Wednesday issues a very long statement on
• 31:36
Speaker 4: X imploring upon the Republican Party to keep their primary open.
• 31:41
Speaker 4: His words, independence like me or something like that. That's
• 31:44
  Speaker 4: what he said.
• 31:44
Speaker 6: You well, I mean dependence like Joe.
• 31:48
Speaker 4: All right, all right, so what do you say.
• 31:49
Speaker 6: Look, Joe Manchin's Joe Mansion's always.
• 31:53
Speaker 12: Been a party of one, right, I mean, he's been
• 31:55
Speaker 12: in the Joe Mansion Party forever. But Joe Manchin's a Democrat,
• 31:58
Speaker 12: has always been a Democrat, or always be a Democrat.
• 32:00
Speaker 12: He you know, I guess he tried to save some
• 32:03
Speaker 12: face because the National Liberal the National Democrats got so
• 32:06
Speaker 12: extreme there at the end, and he got all mad
• 32:10
Speaker 12: at him. But I think Joe Manchin came out and
• 32:13
Speaker 12: said that because to me, the Republicans keeping the primary
• 32:18
Speaker 12: closed is the best possible thing you could do to
• 32:22
Speaker 12: help regrow the Democratic Party in West Virginia. Right, you know, Dave,
• 32:28
Speaker 12: as you know, I've been a political consultant in West
• 32:30
Speaker 12: Virginia since two thousand and two. I've probably run more
• 32:33
Speaker 12: Republican races than anybody else over that time. The independent
• 32:39
Speaker 12: having the independents vote in our primary and then continue
• 32:42
Speaker 12: to support us in the general elections has been that
• 32:46
Speaker 12: is what has enabled us to get into the majority
• 32:48
Speaker 12: and helped build us the supermajority.
• 32:50
Speaker 6: That we now have.
• 32:52
Speaker 12: And doing away with that and sort of, you know,
• 32:56
Speaker 12: essentially looking at three hundred thousand people and saying, hey,
• 33:00
Speaker 12: we don't really need you.
• 33:01
Speaker 6: Now, which is crazy. It's absolutely crazy.
• 33:04
Speaker 12: I mean, we Republicans in West Virginia only have forty
• 33:07
Speaker 12: percent registration, so in elections you need fifty percent plus
• 33:14
Speaker 12: one to win. You know, fifty is greater than forty.
• 33:20
  Speaker 12: I just don't understand. I don't understand what we're doing.
• 33:23
Speaker 12: I mean, I get the whole You know, they'll go
• 33:26
Speaker 12: out and some people will say, oh, well, you know,
• 33:29
Speaker 12: the Democrats are going to become independence and infiltrate our party.
• 33:33
Speaker 12: The Democrats are already switching to Republican to infiltrate our party.
• 33:37
Speaker 12: I mean, look at the policies that are going on
• 33:39
Speaker 12: in charge, we could you can't pass a tax cut
• 33:41
Speaker 12: with those people that are up there right now. These
• 33:43
Speaker 12: are big government Democrats that take most of their money
• 33:47
Speaker 12: from other Democrats that are in our party as it is.
• 33:51
Speaker 12: And so you know, to me, this idea that they're
• 33:54
Speaker 12: going to infiltrate it is silly. They already have infiltrated it.
• 33:58
Speaker 12: You know, a poll was taken this week with a
• 34:01
Speaker 12: group that I'm associated with, and you know, we asked
• 34:05
Speaker 12: just a handful of questions, but one of them was,
• 34:07
Speaker 12: you know, who'd you vote for for president? Well, guess what,
• 34:09
Speaker 12: over sixty percent of the Independence voted for Trump. These
• 34:12
Speaker 12: aren't a bunch of liberals, I mean, these are these
• 34:14
Speaker 12: are These are people that vote for Trump. And the
• 34:17
Speaker 12: idea that closing the primary is going to like put
• 34:20
Speaker 12: a gun to their head and force them to become
• 34:23
Speaker 12: to register Republican. First off, I don't want to force
• 34:26
Speaker 12: anybody to register to be Republican, right, Like, we should
• 34:29
Speaker 12: be changing the perspective and educating people on why our
• 34:33
Speaker 12: policies are better, not you know, carjacking them. But that's
• 34:40
Speaker 12: what this is, though, right, I mean, this is oh,
• 34:42
Speaker 12: we only got forty percent. We want to get to
• 34:43
Speaker 12: fifty percent. But we asked a question of four hundred
• 34:47
Speaker 12: and fifty eight independents and said, hey, if the Republicans
• 34:50
Speaker 12: closed their primary, will you switch registration? And only twenty
• 34:53
Speaker 12: percent of them said they would. And then we've to furthermore.
• 34:58
Speaker 12: We said, okay, well, if the Republican primary is closed,
• 35:01
Speaker 12: are you still going to vote for Republicans in the fall,
• 35:05
Speaker 12: And only a third of them said they would. Were
• 35:07
Speaker 12: right now two thirds of them are voting for us.
• 35:10
Speaker 12: You know, you got three hundred thousand independents in the state.
• 35:13
  Speaker 12: I mean, you're essentially looking at a hunt. You're essentially
• 35:16
Speaker 12: we know we will be getting rid of one hundred
• 35:19
Speaker 12: thousand potential voters in the fall. It just doesn't make
• 35:23
Speaker 12: any sense to me.
• 35:24
Speaker 4: Gregor had somebody who is very involved in politics told
• 35:27
Speaker 4: me that it's not really going to matter in twenty
• 35:29
Speaker 4: twenty two because because the you know, the turnout's going
• 35:33
Speaker 4: to be low. Yeah, President's not on the ballot, you know,
• 35:35
Speaker 4: a president whomever. I mean, that's what I mean by that.
• 35:38
Speaker 4: President's not on the ballot. So it's not going to
• 35:40
Speaker 4: matter as much in twenty twenty two. That's what I
• 35:41
Speaker 4: was told by somebody you're taking.
• 35:43
Speaker 12: I agree with that, and i've been if you you know,
• 35:45
Speaker 12: you and I have talked about this, probably we talked
• 35:47
Speaker 12: about it two years ago when they first did it,
• 35:49
Speaker 12: and I really I wasn't really on one side of
• 35:52
Speaker 12: the other. I kept saying, hey, to the people that
• 35:55
Speaker 12: are wanting to close it, I said, man, why don't
• 35:57
Speaker 12: you guys come up with some data, come up with
• 35:58
Speaker 12: some examples of other places that did this and what
• 36:02
Speaker 12: were the results? And of course nobody came up with anything. Right,
• 36:05
Speaker 12: this is a very emotional thing. There's a handful of
• 36:08
Speaker 12: politicians right now in West Virginia and it's really it's
• 36:12
Speaker 12: the Republican candidates that can't get fifty percent in the
• 36:14
Speaker 12: primary and what they want to do. Rather than say, Okay,
• 36:17
Speaker 12: I can't get fifty percent, how do I grow my
• 36:21
Speaker 12: thirty five percent? They look at it and say, well,
• 36:23
Speaker 12: how do I shrink the number of people that come
• 36:25
Speaker 12: in so my thirty five percent is higher? That's what
• 36:28
Speaker 12: this is about. This is that's one hundred percent what
• 36:31
Speaker 12: this is about. And everybody knows it. And so if
• 36:34
Speaker 12: you're on the State Executive Committee, you're either a sheep
• 36:38
Speaker 12: that follow a handful of politicians, or you're somebody that's
• 36:40
Speaker 12: going to actually look at data and going to actually,
• 36:42
Speaker 12: you know, people that have been involved in the party
• 36:44
Speaker 12: for twenty twenty five years like me, that have the
• 36:48
Speaker 12: best interests of the conservative movement and the Republican Party.
• 36:51
Speaker 12: And to me, it's we've got to get if we
• 36:53
Speaker 12: want to attract people to the party, we'd actually need
• 36:55
Speaker 12: to be conservative, and we're not doing that in Charleston.
• 36:59
Speaker 12: We didn't do that last sets and there's no chance
• 37:01
Speaker 12: they're going to be conservative this upcoming session.
• 37:04
Speaker 4: Well, Jim, and I will say this. You know, in
• 37:07
Speaker 4: talking to different people that I consider to be more
• 37:10
Speaker 4: right wing, and I don't mean that in a negative way,
• 37:12
Speaker 4: but I mean, for you know, they said exactly what
• 37:14
Speaker 4: you said. One one person I talked to in particular,
• 37:16
Speaker 4: said we got to do what we can to keep
• 37:19
Speaker 4: these quote unquote rhinos out of the party and to
• 37:21
  Speaker 4: keep it conservative.
• 37:22
Speaker 6: I agree with you.
• 37:24
Speaker 4: A lot of what we've seen coming out of Charleston
• 37:26
Speaker 4: the last couple of years. Greg is not conservative. And
• 37:28
Speaker 4: this is where you and I may disagree on some things,
• 37:30
Speaker 4: and that's okay. A lot on what's come out of
• 37:32
Speaker 4: the Trump White House is not very conservative either.
• 37:35
Speaker 12: I think there's certain you know, he's got that populist vent,
• 37:39
Speaker 12: there's certain things that I think, you know, he built
• 37:43
Speaker 12: a coalition of some people that bring different ideas to
• 37:47
Speaker 12: the table for sure.
• 37:50
  Speaker 6: Look, bringing up.
• 37:51
Speaker 12: Trump is part of this too, though, right because right
• 37:54
Speaker 12: now in West Virginia, there's a whole bunch of people
• 37:56
Speaker 12: that support Trump that hadn't supported Republicans before. True, and
• 38:00
Speaker 12: when Trump is gone, they're not going to stay with us.
• 38:04
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, you don't think that they would
• 38:08
Speaker 4: stay on let's say twenty twenty eight if if.
• 38:10
Speaker 6: Maybe some of them, some of them will.
• 38:14
Speaker 12: I mean the problem is, look, there's a certain wing
• 38:19
Speaker 12: of There was always a certain wing of the Democratic
• 38:22
Speaker 12: Party that was socially conservative but still very liberal on
• 38:25
Speaker 12: the economic issues, you know, not pro you know, big government,
• 38:30
Speaker 12: not really pro personal responsibility. But they and the National
• 38:35
Speaker 12: Democrats got so extreme on trans issues and boys and
• 38:40
Speaker 12: girls sports and stuff like that, and those people left
• 38:43
Speaker 12: the Democratic Party became Republicans because it was like, oh
• 38:46
Speaker 12: my gosh, they're crazy on the social issues, but they
• 38:48
Speaker 12: didn't assimilate on the economic issues when they got here, Right,
• 38:52
Speaker 12: it was still like, so now all of a sudden,
• 38:53
Speaker 12: our Republican party, there are like no Republicans that support
• 39:00
Speaker 12: and surgeries for miners or boys and girls sports. I mean,
• 39:02
Speaker 12: it doesn't happen. And so our legislature has addressed all
• 39:06
Speaker 12: those issues, right, But so now we've addressed all those issues,
• 39:10
Speaker 12: and now it's like, okay, well what's next. And all
• 39:14
Speaker 12: of the ideas you hear now of those people are
• 39:16
Speaker 12: big government, tax and spend sort of ideas because that's
• 39:19
Speaker 12: who because they're really Democrats. You know, they're really Democrats,
• 39:22
Speaker 12: and you can look at their campaign finance reports. You
• 39:23
Speaker 12: know half your money's coming from Democrat trial lawyers in Charleston.
• 39:27
Speaker 12: You don't get to tell me you're a conservative.
• 39:28
Speaker 6: You just don't. You can. You don't get to do that.
• 39:31
Speaker 6: And we're and we're going to hold.
• 39:32
Speaker 12: Those people accountable during this upcoming election. But look that
• 39:36
Speaker 12: you know, this Saturday, the state Executive Committee's got a
• 39:39
Speaker 12: chance to do this. You know you mentioned the Kennall
• 39:41
Speaker 12: County Republican Executive Committee vote to keep it closed, which
• 39:45
  Speaker 12: is insane.
• 39:46
Speaker 6: And let me tell you why it's insane.
• 39:47
Speaker 12: In Kennall County, there are forty four thousand Republicans. There
• 39:51
Speaker 12: are forty thousand Democrats, and they're thirty one thousand independents.
• 39:57
Speaker 12: Forty plus thirty one is seventy one.
• 40:00
Speaker 6: Seventy one is greater than forty four.
• 40:02
  Speaker 10: Like that.
• 40:03
Speaker 12: We got into the supermajority by growing a coalition based
• 40:08
Speaker 12: around issues and policy and a cause, right, and now
• 40:13
Speaker 12: this idea that Okay, we're just gonna keep them out.
• 40:15
Speaker 12: I mean, we won't win another general election. You know,
• 40:18
Speaker 12: they passed this stuff in a cycle or two. Will
• 40:20
Speaker 12: never win a general election in Kanal County. We just
• 40:23
Speaker 12: won't do it. And I think though some of the
• 40:25
Speaker 12: people in charge of the executive committee in these in
• 40:28
Speaker 12: these counties, they don't want to win. You know, these
• 40:31
Speaker 12: were the people that were around twenty years ago that
• 40:34
Speaker 12: didn't lift a finger to help us get the majority,
• 40:37
Speaker 12: and now they're the ones all of a sudden that's
• 40:39
Speaker 12: like they see new people coming into the party and
• 40:40
Speaker 12: all this stuff, and they just they would rather be controlled.
• 40:43
Speaker 12: They would rather control a minority position than be part
• 40:46
Speaker 12: of a majority position. And that's a little bit of
• 40:49
Speaker 12: what's going on with all of this. Any predictions on
• 40:52
Speaker 12: what will happened a month, I don't know if anything,
• 40:53
Speaker 12: I don't know, you know. I honestly, before the group
• 40:57
Speaker 12: that I'm associated with took this survey this week, I
• 40:59
Speaker 12: wasn't really involved in this at all. After I saw
• 41:02
Speaker 12: the data and looked at this and I kind of
• 41:05
Speaker 12: felt like it would be a bad idea, and I
• 41:07
Speaker 12: felt like it wasn't going to matter in the short
• 41:09
Speaker 12: term and it would matter in the long term. But
• 41:11
Speaker 12: after seeing this information and the results of the survey,
• 41:15
Speaker 12: it's kind of scary for what it's going to do
• 41:17
Speaker 12: for the Republican Party in a decade.
• 41:19
Speaker 4: Well, what would you say to those who would say, look,
• 41:21
Speaker 4: if you are a if you're a person who identifies
• 41:24
Speaker 4: as Republican, that's your current buzzword these days is identify.
• 41:27
Speaker 4: If you identify as a Republican all the Republican things,
• 41:30
Speaker 4: then you should register as a Republican or Democrat.
• 41:33
  Speaker 12: I just I think people, I think there's a lot.
• 41:36
Speaker 12: I think a lot of political people assume that independents
• 41:40
Speaker 12: are thinking about politics more than they are most independence
• 41:44
Speaker 12: It's not that they look at it and think like, well,
• 41:46
Speaker 12: I don't identify with the party. Most of it's just
• 41:49
Speaker 12: I'm just not that political and I go vote when
• 41:53
Speaker 12: things get really bad one way or another.
• 41:55
Speaker 4: Now you hear the constant, I vote for the person,
• 41:57
  Speaker 4: not the party.
• 41:57
Speaker 12: Yeah, and or I don't vote at all if things
• 42:00
Speaker 12: are going okay, and I go vote when you know,
• 42:03
Speaker 12: when my electric bills five hundred dollars a month, and
• 42:05
Speaker 12: then I go vote for the person that.
• 42:06
Speaker 4: Says they're going to make it three hundred dollars a month.
• 42:09
  Speaker 1: Whatever.

Speaker 4: Greg Thomas is here. Tex says Greg is spot on.
• 45:09
Speaker 4: Tex says Greg is on it. So Democrats turned Republicans
• 45:12
  Speaker 4: making these decisions.
• 45:15
Speaker 12: That person that that text are there is on it.
• 45:19
Speaker 12: It really is the case. I mean, that person's right.
• 45:21
Speaker 12: I mean, that's really the case of what's going on.
• 45:24
Speaker 12: It's like they we didn't realize that by having all
• 45:28
Speaker 12: of these Democrats switch to Republican, Like, those Democrats didn't
• 45:33
Speaker 12: switch to independent. The Democrats just switched to Republican and
• 45:36
Speaker 12: then they got involved in the party over the last
• 45:39
Speaker 12: five years or so. And you know, all those people
• 45:41
Speaker 12: that have become active Republicans in the last five years,
• 45:44
Speaker 12: they're guaranteed to have been a Democrat and they.
• 45:47
Speaker 4: Do you think the Democrats didn't the more Democrats that
• 45:49
Speaker 4: switched didn't switch to independent them.
• 45:52
Speaker 12: I think they're just people that like to be involved
• 45:55
Speaker 12: in a party and they were, you know, they were
• 45:59
Speaker 12: sort of the ones that had lost power within the
• 46:02
Speaker 12: Republican Party over the years. I mean, look, Joe Manchin
• 46:07
Speaker 12: wants the Independence to vote in the Democrat primary because
• 46:12
Speaker 12: they're a lot more conservative than the Democrats, right, like,
• 46:16
Speaker 12: those are the like that.
• 46:17
Speaker 6: He would view the.
• 46:18
Speaker 12: Independence as West Virginia as his kind of Democrats. So
• 46:21
Speaker 12: Joe Manchin wants them. He doesn't want them to keep
• 46:24
Speaker 12: he doesn't want the Republicans to keep it open. He
• 46:26
Speaker 12: wants them to close it that that way, it would
• 46:28
Speaker 12: force those independents into the Democratic Party because right now
• 46:32
Speaker 12: the Democratic Party is extremely liberal and those you know,
• 46:36
Speaker 12: like I said, two thirds of the Independences voted for
• 46:38
Speaker 12: Trump for president, right all right?
• 46:41
Speaker 4: Tex says Conservatives being pro personal responsibility and then giving
• 46:44
Speaker 4: businesses millions of millions or billions of dollars as the
• 46:47
  Speaker 4: most hypocritical thing.
• 46:48
  Speaker 5: Ever.
• 46:49
Speaker 4: Businesses are people too, according to law, and should have
• 46:51
Speaker 4: the same personal responsibility as expected from student loan borrower.
• 46:55
Speaker 4: Business owners always rely on government handouts. Tex says, I'd
• 46:58
Speaker 4: never register as a report publican or vote Republican because
• 47:01
Speaker 4: the party doesn't value body autonomy and it's constantly attempting
• 47:04
Speaker 4: to violate the Constitution by imposing Christianity. The Christianity using
• 47:09
Speaker 4: government GOP is anti constitution.
• 47:11
Speaker 12: Uh, there's actually a whole political party that believes half
• 47:17
Speaker 12: of that, which is the Constitution Party. And so there
• 47:20
Speaker 12: are some people out there that that you know, not
• 47:23
Speaker 12: the the the abortion aspect of that, call that Texter,
• 47:26
Speaker 12: but the rest of that there there is a whole group.
• 47:29
Speaker 12: Actually the Constitution Party is going to be on the
• 47:31
Speaker 12: ballot this time. They have you know, so now.
• 47:34
Speaker 4: That's who Don Blankenship was affiliate with a.
• 47:36
Speaker 6: He was there for a little bit and then uh
• 47:39
Speaker 6: they heck what was that got? What was dude?
• 47:43
Speaker 12: I can't think of the good that he ran for
• 47:45
Speaker 12: governor and he got one percent? Marsha Wilson Marshall, will
• 47:47
Speaker 12: you know Marshall, nice guy, super nice guy. He ran
• 47:51
Speaker 12: got more than one percent. So now they're on the ballot.
• 47:53
Speaker 12: So what what happens there is, Uh, they'll have a
• 47:57
Speaker 12: convention probably like in June or something like that, and
• 48:01
Speaker 12: then whoever they nominate, you know, for delegate, legislature or whatever,
• 48:05
  Speaker 12: we'll have it.
• 48:05
Speaker 6: We'll be on the ballot.
• 48:06
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 48:06
Speaker 12: And so that you know, the the what Mountain Party
• 48:09
Speaker 12: had that for you know, they've had that forever and
• 48:11
Speaker 12: so that was sort of the Mountain Party was sort
• 48:14
Speaker 12: of the the group that the Democrats weren't liberal enough
• 48:18
Speaker 12: for them. And then I think the Constitution Party is
• 48:20
Speaker 12: going to be a group that says, hey, you guys,
• 48:21
Speaker 12: aren't you know, quite as conservative enough.
• 48:23
Speaker 4: Let me throw this out here real quick. We then
• 48:24
Speaker 4: I got about a minute a half couple of big
• 48:26
Speaker 4: announcements for the last couple of day. Donna Bowley retiring
• 48:28
Speaker 4: from the State Senate served very very well and.
• 48:32
Speaker 6: One time, forty years, Yeah, she was the only Republican.
• 48:34
Speaker 12: Yeah, back in the back in the early nineties, it
• 48:36
Speaker 12: was thirty three to one and she was the one, okay.
• 48:39
Speaker 4: And that's uh. And then Wolffele, Mike Waffel, Senator Mike
• 48:42
Speaker 4: wolfelll opting not to run for re election.
• 48:45
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 48:45
Speaker 12: I think the you know, he kind of looked like
• 48:47
Speaker 12: he was trying to get out. I think he was,
• 48:50
Speaker 12: you know, trying to find somebody to sort of be
• 48:52
Speaker 12: a successor down there, and and wasn't really able to
• 48:56
Speaker 12: find somebody. And then then Chris Miller, of course, has
• 48:58
Speaker 12: announced that he's going to run for state What do
• 49:00
Speaker 12: you think about Chriss chances I Chris is a good
• 49:03
Speaker 12: friend of mine. I like Chris a lot, you know,
• 49:06
  Speaker 12: he'll run a big campaign and he'll go do a
• 49:08
Speaker 12: lot of work, you know, and then so I think
• 49:10
Speaker 12: it'll I think it'll go well for him.
• 49:11
Speaker 4: All right, real quick, what do you expect to hear
• 49:12
Speaker 4: the governor say Wednesday night thirty seven?
• 49:14
Speaker 12: Look, I think he's gonna go for a tax cut,
• 49:16
Speaker 12: and I hope that he's able to make it work.
• 49:19
Speaker 4: All right, Greg Thom, It's always a pleasure to have
