- 0:06Speaker 1: Hot corner time. We got some fresh notes from Ken
- 0:09Speaker 1: Rosenthal this morning in his column. Let us begin with
- 0:13Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber. There is interest from the Reds. There's interest
- 0:18Speaker 1: from Schwarber. AJ is laughing why because if you keep
- 0:23Speaker 1: reading the article you can see that the math is
- 0:26Speaker 1: not mathing. I would love to see this, Like, if
- 0:31Speaker 1: there's someone that would be more perfect, please tell me
- 0:34Speaker 1: who it would be. AJ, offense needed thump. This would
- 0:37Speaker 1: be a great guy to hit behind Ellie. This would
- 0:39Speaker 1: be a great guy for a very young clubhouse.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 0:42Speaker 1: He's from Ohio, grew up going to Reds games, the
- 0:46Speaker 1: whole deal. There's interest from him. It's just that he's
- 0:49Speaker 1: probably going to get like five years, one thirty to
- 0:52Speaker 1: one fifty mil. The Reds. I've already announced that they're
- 0:55Speaker 1: going to keep payroll in the same range as last year.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That gives them about twenty million dollars to spend. That
- 1:01Speaker 1: alone won't cover Kyle Schwarber. And there are not a
- 1:04Speaker 1: lot of big time movable contracts like in the article, AJ,
- 1:08Speaker 1: Gavin Lux's name is thrown out there. That's five million.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That's still not getting you there. So am I just
- 1:13Speaker 1: saying what's going am I like basically narrating your brain right.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Now, let me just say that Scott did who we
- 1:22Speaker 2: have on earlier Noah Hiles, who does he work for
- 1:25Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Pirates?
- 1:27Speaker 1: He don't work for the pirates.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Well, he works covers.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Was not hire him?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yes? He cover? Excuse me, he covers the pirates? What
- 1:35Speaker 2: did I ask him? Are they just going to say
- 1:38Speaker 2: they're in on a guy to make the fans happy?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Do we really think we have to look at track
- 1:42Speaker 2: records that the Castellini family who owns the Red, and
- 1:44Speaker 2: they have a great restaurant and hotel. They know I'm
- 1:47Speaker 2: Scott Still I stayed their first spring Trainey called Sanctuary
- 1:50Speaker 2: wonderful place. But do you think that they're going to
- 1:52Speaker 2: take their money and put it into Kyle Schwarber after
- 1:55Speaker 2: the track record of never having done this in their
- 1:58Speaker 2: entire life, and all of a Suddeny're gonna flip uwitch
- 2:00Speaker 2: and say we're gonna sign Kyle Swarber for three years,
- 2:03Speaker 2: one hundred and thirty million, Like, no, it's not gonna happen.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And to get him to go to Cincinnati. I know
- 2:07Speaker 2: he's from there, and we're won the Red's games and
- 2:09Speaker 2: this and that, blah blah blah blah blah. They're gonna
- 2:12Speaker 2: have to overpay and they don't have a history of
- 2:14Speaker 2: doing it. So it's cool. It's great. It's a fun story.
- 2:16Speaker 2: A team go Reds, Mister Red Missus, Red Bronson Arroyo
- 2:21Speaker 2: out there on his boat playing the guitar, Todd Frasier
- 2:23Speaker 2: hitting one handed homers, Joey Vada wearing his uniform three
- 2:27Speaker 2: sizes too small. All that is great, But at the
- 2:29Speaker 2: end of the day, they're not going to do it
- 2:30Speaker 2: because they haven't done this. Until they do it, I
- 2:32Speaker 2: gotta see it.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's such a bummercrats because I know that they
- 2:37Speaker 1: can't think this way. But if the Reds have a
- 2:40Speaker 1: little playoff run in them next year, you're going to
- 2:43Speaker 1: make up that money and then some right. I mean,
- 2:46Speaker 1: I think we can calculate whatever the number is, five, ten,
- 2:49Speaker 1: fifteen million dollars per playoff game that you get right,
- 2:52Speaker 1: We don't have the official public numbers. I really think
- 2:56Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber is the missing piece for a team like this.
- 3:00Speaker 1: They've got a nice core of young starters, they have
- 3:03Speaker 1: a developing core of young position players. More work to
- 3:06Speaker 1: do there, but their offense wasn't good enough. And it's
- 3:09Speaker 1: a great American ballpark too, even if I mean whether
- 3:12Speaker 1: you look at the regular offense or the league adjusted offense,
- 3:15Speaker 1: looks even worse for them, right like league adjusted park
- 3:19Speaker 1: adjusted I should say offense. Last year by most metrics,
- 3:23Speaker 1: they were bottom ten. This is a park where home
- 3:26Speaker 1: runs are hit. Their home run leader last year was
- 3:30Speaker 1: Ellie de la Cruz at twenty two home runs, including
- 3:33Speaker 1: just four in the second half of the season. There
- 3:36Speaker 1: were reports, of course, of an injury for Ellie. Also
- 3:38Speaker 1: he was getting fed more off speed pitches, blah blah,
- 3:41Speaker 1: whatever it is. Kyle Schwarper had fifty six home runs
- 3:44Speaker 1: last year for Philadelphia.
- 3:47Speaker 3: There's I mean a lot of teams. When you look
- 3:50Speaker 3: at signing a DH for five years, you say, like
- 3:54Speaker 3: when you look at the Phillies, okay, like, well, we're
- 3:57Speaker 3: gonna have Trey Turner, who's gonna need some DH time.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Bryce Harper is gonna need some DH time in those
- 4:02Speaker 3: five years. The Reds don't have that. The Reds are
- 4:06Speaker 3: not aging the way that other teams are. So that's
- 4:09Speaker 3: why this does fit. He's from Cincinnati, he's got more kids.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Now that'd be huge, he'd be able to make his
- 4:16Speaker 3: mark on yet another team. And everywhere this guy goes,
- 4:20Speaker 3: they make the playoffs. With the Cubs, they won the
- 4:22Speaker 3: World Series. He goes to the Phillies, they lose in
- 4:25Speaker 3: the World Series. They make the playoffs every year. Like
- 4:27Speaker 3: he is that kind of game changing person. But exactly
- 4:32Speaker 3: like AJ said, Sorry, Reds fans, it ain't gonna happen.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Such a bummer. It just it feels right. Wait, you're
- 4:44Speaker 1: mute at AJ, but it feels right. It feels right.
- 4:47Speaker 2: They could shoot your stupid mute button. Thank god. It stupid.
- 4:52Speaker 2: But they can't afford it. They can't afford it. But
- 4:54Speaker 2: my question is is listen, as much as we all
- 4:57Speaker 2: love Kyle Sharber and we love what he brings offense,
- 5:00Speaker 2: are they only one piece away? Because so who's their
- 5:03Speaker 2: first basement? Is it South Stewart? Is it Incarnacian Strand
- 5:06Speaker 2: you know, is Ellie going to take the next step?
- 5:08Speaker 2: Is Stevenson saying, hell, they're more than one piece away.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I think that's the way you're going to look at it,
- 5:12Speaker 2: and that's the way they're going to do it.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I don't I don't agree that they're one piece away.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I think I think they are one piece away. I
- 5:22Speaker 3: think Spencer Steer, I think Matt McClain, I think Ellie
- 5:25Speaker 3: d la Cruz. And I'm only going on watching them seeing, Okay,
- 5:30Speaker 3: this track record is Ellie always going to be a
- 5:33Speaker 3: like a ops plus of one oh six first career.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I have a hard time believing that that athletic that
- 5:41Speaker 3: fast on the basis switch hitter, he's never facing right,
- 5:44Speaker 3: all right, left on left, like, I think there are
- 5:46Speaker 3: too many pieces, and they are. They're just grossly underperforming offensively. Now,
- 5:53Speaker 3: this might be one of my conspiracy theories. The pitching
- 5:56Speaker 3: is ridiculous for this team. The starting pitching is ridiculous.
- 5:59Speaker 3: The bullpen was a little above average, and the offense
- 6:03Speaker 3: was brutal. So is Great American Small Park all of
- 6:06Speaker 3: a sudden becoming a pictures park. Did the human door
- 6:09Speaker 3: get turned up a little bit too much? I'm just saying,
- 6:11Speaker 3: just looking at it, like maybe it's not as great
- 6:15Speaker 3: of a hitting place as it used to be.
- 6:17Speaker 2: All right, well, I'm gonna ask you this. Here's the
- 6:19Speaker 2: problem with the Reds. They strike out too much. Look
- 6:22Speaker 2: at their strikeout numbers. They strike out a ridiculous amount.
- 6:25Speaker 2: That's not gonna change just because you throw Kyle Swerburn there,
- 6:27Speaker 2: because guess what KYLEE. Schwerber does do He strikes out
- 6:29Speaker 2: a lot. You got to find some other ways to
- 6:31Speaker 2: generate offense and humidor no humidor if great Kyle Swerber
- 6:36Speaker 2: goes out and hits you forty five homers, if your
- 6:37Speaker 2: next guy has twenty and it's Elie, you gotta find
- 6:40Speaker 2: out a way to cut down on the strikeouts. That's
- 6:42Speaker 2: the biggest thing for the Reds offense. They strike out
- 6:45Speaker 2: way too much. Check the numbers.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Okay, so maybe someone like Akamoto is more the answer, right,
- 6:52Speaker 1: more of a contact, higher floor kind of guy. I mean,
- 6:55Speaker 1: it's certainly a huge difference in terms of clubhouse presence.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I feel like Kyle Schwarber is leading the league or
- 7:01Speaker 1: one of the top guys to be able to really
- 7:03Speaker 1: influence a young ball club. It's no knock on Alcamota.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I'm just bringing out I mean, he's coming from another
- 7:08Speaker 1: country and many other guys. It's like, sure they could
- 7:11Speaker 1: be a good fit. But it just felt like this
- 7:13Speaker 1: had had written up and it's not likely to actually happen.
- 7:17Speaker 1: But who knows, Maybe the Reds will just wake up
- 7:18Speaker 1: one day and decide screw it. That's up the payroll
- 7:21Speaker 1: for one year, and if we end up getting a
- 7:24Speaker 1: couple extra Playoff games out of it, it more than
- 7:26Speaker 1: covers it. Anyway, I don't think they're one piece away
- 7:28Speaker 1: from being a World Series winning team. I do think
- 7:31Speaker 1: they're a piece like shore Burr, away from being much
- 7:33Speaker 1: more of a sure fire Playoff contender. Right last year
- 7:36Speaker 1: they made it eighty three wins, they made it just barely.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I think they would be in a much better position here,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and I do think some of that young pitching is
- 7:45Speaker 1: going to take the next step for them in the rotation. Okay,
- 7:48Speaker 1: next thing on the list, and last one we'll cover
- 7:50Speaker 1: here today from Ken had to do with the Brewers.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They are the ultimate flip floppers right now. I mean,
- 7:55Speaker 1: because some of these comments have been public, it's not
- 7:57Speaker 1: like they're just coming from anonymous sources. Maybe Freddy Parolta
- 8:02Speaker 1: gets traded now, we're probably not going to trade him.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Oh Woodriff took the qualifying offer, Now, maybe we'll trade him.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Then again, you kind of see that they're not going
- 8:10Speaker 1: to trade him now. Ken Rosenthal has tilted the pendulum
- 8:14Speaker 1: back to we're listening. So aj. I do think some
- 8:18Speaker 1: of this has to do with teams calling and upping there.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I don't want to say offers, but they're conversations because
- 8:24Speaker 1: they like to do this slow little teaser dance with
- 8:27Speaker 1: everyone when they call about trade talks. I think they're
- 8:30Speaker 1: doing that because they looked at Dylan see seven years
- 8:33Speaker 1: at present value close to two hundred million dollars and said, hmmm,
- 8:37Speaker 1: twenty nine year old seas kind of player or twenty
- 8:40Speaker 1: nine year old Freddy Parolta with better credentials right now,
- 8:45Speaker 1: right or at least comparable credentials for eight million bucks
- 8:48Speaker 1: next season. So if you're a contender, you're like, maybe
- 8:51Speaker 1: I could find one more prospect to make this happen Milwaukee,
- 8:54Speaker 1: Can I entice you into this? It's not a money
- 8:56Speaker 1: thing for Milwaukee. He's eight million bucks, like anything can
- 8:59Speaker 1: afford that? For Milwaukee, they're just like, he's probably gone
- 9:02Speaker 1: after this year. Do we have to maximize a return here?
- 9:06Speaker 1: Or can we afford to keep him, build on the
- 9:08Speaker 1: ninety seven win team from last year and then give
- 9:11Speaker 1: a qualifying offer and just get a first round pick
- 9:13Speaker 1: versus multiple high level prospects.
- 9:17Speaker 2: No, I agree, it's not a money thing. It's a
- 9:19Speaker 2: we can get it super extra special stuff for this
- 9:22Speaker 2: guy and hopefully that helps us. Now, they didn't usually
- 9:24Speaker 2: Milwaukee's ahead of this game. They did it with Devin Williams.
- 9:27Speaker 2: They've done it for years, the Corbyn Burns. But the
- 9:29Speaker 2: one guy they let walk was Willia Damas right, and
- 9:31Speaker 2: they had a hard time kind of filling his offense
- 9:33Speaker 2: even though they wont a bunch of games. Freddy Peralta
- 9:36Speaker 2: eight million dollars. Teams are like, yeah, we can get
- 9:38Speaker 2: one year of healthy, full menu Freddy. And he finished
- 9:42Speaker 2: probably I don't know where he finished the Young but
- 9:44Speaker 2: top five in the c I Young. He can go
- 9:46Speaker 2: pitch for us. Heck yeah, and we'll give you the
- 9:49Speaker 2: ABC and D. I like this for the Milwaukee I
- 9:52Speaker 2: hate it if you're a fan. But at the same time,
- 9:54Speaker 2: I'm like, if we can get a bunch of things
- 9:55Speaker 2: that can keep our our hot streak going and our
- 9:58Speaker 2: winning and our playoffs going to do it, I'm sorry.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Uh yeah, calling online. Six is the Red Sox. How
- 10:07Speaker 3: do how do the Brewers? The Brewers have to match
- 10:10Speaker 3: up with a team that is going to give them
- 10:13Speaker 3: big league ready pieces. To me, I think it's two players.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I think it's Jaron Durant, and I think it's another
- 10:20Speaker 3: player that helps fill whatever void the Brewers have to
- 10:26Speaker 3: continue to win. Is it Marcella Meyer and somebody else?
- 10:31Speaker 3: Is it something that is young and able to fit
- 10:34Speaker 3: right into this team. I don't know, but Freddy Peralta,
- 10:38Speaker 3: I was trying to see what Corbyn Burns was making
- 10:40Speaker 3: his last year before you got traded to Baltimore, and
- 10:43Speaker 3: Corbyn Burns was making, was making more than eight million.
- 10:48Speaker 3: And Corbyn Burns brought in Joey Ortiz and d l Hall.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I know dal Hall was hurt, but you know, there's
- 10:57Speaker 3: there's a lot of there's a lot of extra spice
- 11:00Speaker 3: there when you're talking about two top of the line
- 11:04Speaker 3: or top of the line prospects that are already in
- 11:07Speaker 3: the big leagues, already have big league experienced. I think
- 11:09Speaker 3: that's what the Brewers we'll be looking for. And it's
- 11:12Speaker 3: going to be a huge haul because he's only getting
- 11:15Speaker 3: paid eight million dollars. And when you look at it now,
- 11:17Speaker 3: all of a sudden, the Red Sox go Crochet Gray
- 11:21Speaker 3: and Freddie p and then you're rounding it out with
- 11:24Speaker 3: Bayo and the young core of guys that came up
- 11:27Speaker 3: and filled in last year, all of a sudden, the
- 11:30Speaker 3: pendulum swings back in the Red Sox favor for the
- 11:32Speaker 3: American League East.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Yeah, he was getting sixteen mil Corbyn Burns in that
- 11:36Speaker 1: last year. Those deals have also worked out really well
- 11:39Speaker 1: for the teams, right, I mean not Burns after that
- 11:41Speaker 1: since he got hurt, but his one season with Baltimore,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I mean he was a number one starter for them,
- 11:45Speaker 1: pitching dominantly in a playoff game for them that they lost,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but not his fault. And then Crochet. I mean that's
- 11:51Speaker 1: one of the best trades in a while. I mean,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you picked up a one, then you were able to
- 11:55Speaker 1: lock them up long term. So Freddy p is going
- 11:57Speaker 1: to be a hot commodity. We'll talk a lot more
- 11:59Speaker 1: about him next week at the way our meetings, if
- 12:00Speaker 1: not before that time period too. Sing at Aja, sing
- 12:17Speaker 1: it for us, sing it loud.
- 12:20Speaker 2: That's what we went with. We went with bo That's
- 12:23Speaker 2: who we went. We went, but.
- 12:26Speaker 1: We'll bo go so for a little context, So go
- 12:29Speaker 1: by one get one free. That's right. We did this
- 12:32Speaker 1: last year with Juan Sota where will Wan go? And
- 12:35Speaker 1: it was so damn popular with the eighties music that
- 12:37Speaker 1: it is back, just like stranger Things. So let's start there.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Where do you think Bo will go? And can you
- 12:44Speaker 1: give us a little glimpse while you're talking about this
- 12:46Speaker 1: of what you've been writing about.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Boh yeah, I mean I think we did a post
- 12:53Speaker 4: at a mob shower last week. I'm just kind of
- 12:55Speaker 4: looking at we did this for all the top reagents,
- 12:57Speaker 4: but for Bowe in particular, like which games make the
- 13:00Speaker 4: most sense? And I think that kind of writing that
- 13:04Speaker 4: really crystallized that. To me, the Jays bringing him back
- 13:07Speaker 4: is like by far the best fit. It's a situation
- 13:10Speaker 4: where you know Bo obviously this is it's pretty common
- 13:14Speaker 4: for players he want a hitting for agency to say, yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 4: of course I'd like to come back. But Bo was
- 13:20Speaker 4: said that repeatedly, and he's talked a lot about his
- 13:23Speaker 4: friendship with FLA Junior, going back to their time in
- 13:25Speaker 4: the low minors. And you know, they couldn't have gotten
- 13:28Speaker 4: any closer to winning the World Series without actually doing it,
- 13:30Speaker 4: and they did this year. And so even if at
- 13:33Speaker 4: some point, like the front office kind of head just
- 13:35Speaker 4: was like, oh, we're gonna acquire Andre Semenez and he
- 13:37Speaker 4: can be our long term shortstop. You know, I think
- 13:41Speaker 4: it would be very difficult for them to get as
- 13:44Speaker 4: close as they did to winning a title and then
- 13:48Speaker 4: kind of back out because they don't want to meet
- 13:50Speaker 4: Bo's asking prist.
- 13:53Speaker 3: What are the what did the team getting? The Blue
- 13:55Speaker 3: Jays know what they're getting. They know that he had
- 13:57Speaker 3: a bounce back year this year. Maybe some things were
- 14:00Speaker 3: lingering last year offensively, But what as a team that
- 14:03Speaker 3: doesn't hasn't seen him day in and day out getting
- 14:08Speaker 3: if they signed Bobashett to obviously a nine figure contract
- 14:13Speaker 3: to play shortstop.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think you can have some questions
- 14:17Speaker 4: about how long he sticks a shortstop, especially if you're
- 14:19Speaker 4: gonna sign him to, you know, a seven or eight
- 14:21Speaker 4: year deal. You're probably projecting him to move to second
- 14:24Speaker 4: base at some point down the line, maybe within the
- 14:26Speaker 4: first couple of years. But it's rare to find middlelin
- 14:29Speaker 4: fielders who hit like this. This is the guy who
- 14:31Speaker 4: you know, he's won or led the American League hits
- 14:34Speaker 4: twice in his career. He would have done so again
- 14:36Speaker 4: this year had he not missed last three weeks this
- 14:38Speaker 4: season with a knee injury. You know, he was banged
- 14:41Speaker 4: up in twenty twenty four but every other season of
- 14:43Speaker 4: his career he's an OPS above eight hundred and so,
- 14:46Speaker 4: and we saw even you know, he came back during
- 14:48Speaker 4: the World Series after missing a month with the knees brain,
- 14:51Speaker 4: didn't have any game reups. Obviously there's no minor leagues
- 14:53Speaker 4: at that point, comes back in against the Dodgers and hits.
- 14:56Speaker 4: I think it was like three forty hit that you know,
- 14:59Speaker 4: monster home er off of Italian Game seven that had
- 15:01Speaker 4: the Jays alan to the lead, would have been like
- 15:03Speaker 4: one of the greatest moments in Toronto sports history. And so,
- 15:06Speaker 4: you know, I think that there are a few you know,
- 15:09Speaker 4: anfielders are really anyone around the league who you're more
- 15:12Speaker 4: confident in. It's just gonna make a lot of contact,
- 15:15Speaker 4: gonna you know, be a threat to hit three hundred
- 15:17Speaker 4: and potentially win a batting title at some point down
- 15:19Speaker 4: the line. And to get that, even if you have
- 15:21Speaker 4: to move to second base in a couple of years,
- 15:23Speaker 4: to get that from the middle infield position is pretty rare,
- 15:27Speaker 4: all right.
- 15:27Speaker 2: So then let's let's go through some of the teams
- 15:29Speaker 2: that you listed for teams you think are Red Sox, Giants, Tigers, Yankees,
- 15:35Speaker 2: And then you named a whole bunch of other teams, Angels, Brave, Dodgers, Rangers. Okay, Giants,
- 15:41Speaker 2: Will they spend the money? Right? Will they? Will Puster
- 15:43Speaker 2: or Posey be allowed to spend the money it's going
- 15:45Speaker 2: to take to get them Red Sox Again, same thing,
- 15:48Speaker 2: Will they spend the money? And plus they have to
- 15:49Speaker 2: bring back Bregman. They just go went Owt and got
- 15:51Speaker 2: Sonny Gray. Take the argument whether he's a number two
- 15:53Speaker 2: starter or not. The Tigers, well, they have Labor Torres
- 15:57Speaker 2: and they have what McGonagall is a mcgonak McGonagall the
- 16:01Speaker 2: shortstop prospect coming right, and then they have whoever plays
- 16:04Speaker 2: third base for him, So they all sound great. The
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yankees again, will they spend? But they got Cody Bellinger,
- 16:09Speaker 2: They have other options out there for what they're gonna do.
- 16:11Speaker 2: So it all seems like, yeah, they all's are ifs
- 16:14Speaker 2: and butts, But at the end of the day, it
- 16:15Speaker 2: seems like.
- 16:16Speaker 1: The Blue Jays are the best team.
- 16:17Speaker 2: So why have they not got this done? Because I
- 16:20Speaker 2: you know, we can look at all these things and say,
- 16:21Speaker 2: but they don't fit as well as he fits in Toronto.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, like I said, I generally agree with
- 16:28Speaker 4: that that Toronto is the best hit I think. I mean,
- 16:30Speaker 4: the Giants definitely need a second baseman, Casey Schmidt, who's
- 16:33Speaker 4: probably their starting second basement of things this season open today.
- 16:38Speaker 4: He's okay, but certainly not a guy who's gonna stop
- 16:40Speaker 4: you from going after the sheet. Now, you're right that
- 16:42Speaker 4: they already have long term contracts for Devers and Chapman
- 16:45Speaker 4: and a Dominis. They want to spend that kind of
- 16:46Speaker 4: money at all, and if they do where they want
- 16:48Speaker 4: to put in another infielder. I don't know. I do
- 16:51Speaker 4: think Detroit would have made more sense had they not
- 16:54Speaker 4: made the qualifying off of the labor Torres. But you know,
- 16:57Speaker 4: I mean Habibias, He's had a great career. I know
- 17:00Speaker 4: he was had a strong first halt last year, got
- 17:03Speaker 4: back to the All Star Game. But if you kind
- 17:05Speaker 4: of line up every team, especially contenders among the shortstops,
- 17:08Speaker 4: like Bias is at the lower end of that at
- 17:11Speaker 4: this point of his career, and so you know, you
- 17:13Speaker 4: could sign Bashett have n't played shortsop for a year.
- 17:15Speaker 4: If McGonagall does reach the majors at some point in
- 17:17Speaker 4: twenty six, maybe he breaks in at third base, and
- 17:20Speaker 4: you know, at that point Tours is on a one
- 17:22Speaker 4: year qualifying offer, and so if you want mcgonagall's your
- 17:25Speaker 4: long term shortsop, okay, break them in at the third base,
- 17:27Speaker 4: you move him over to shortstop in twenty twenty seven,
- 17:29Speaker 4: and you let Torres walk after this year and kick
- 17:32Speaker 4: the shut over. So I think that they could kind
- 17:33Speaker 4: of move pieces around to make that work. And then Boston,
- 17:37Speaker 4: I think I do expect him to spend on a
- 17:39Speaker 4: hitter of some kind. Now you can make the argument
- 17:42Speaker 4: that going after Schwarmer or Alonso or Monetaco, more Comy, somebody,
- 17:46Speaker 4: you know, a pure power batch to play first base
- 17:48Speaker 4: makes a little more sense for them, But right now
- 17:50Speaker 4: they don't have a clear, everyday second basement. And I
- 17:53Speaker 4: do think after the signing great trade like adding you know,
- 17:57Speaker 4: some kind of impact hitter is the next step for them.
- 18:00Speaker 3: All right. I want to go to your dark horse
- 18:02Speaker 3: teams that you wrote about. There's four of them, Angels, Dodgers,
- 18:07Speaker 3: Braves and Rangers. Are they dark horse teams because there's
- 18:12Speaker 3: a fit but maybe not necessarily on the seven to
- 18:16Speaker 3: eight year contract. Or are they dark horse teams because
- 18:20Speaker 3: you don't know if they're actually going to spend on
- 18:23Speaker 3: the second base position or or shortstop obviously.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean a little bit of both. I think
- 18:29Speaker 4: for the Angels, you could make the argument that they
- 18:33Speaker 4: don't necessarily need in middleandfielder, like maybe a third basement
- 18:36Speaker 4: if they were going to spend, like maybe they make
- 18:37Speaker 4: more sense for Bregman obviously, they don't need shortstop. Zacneto's
- 18:40Speaker 4: blocking the shortstop. They could use a second basement. But
- 18:44Speaker 4: their top prospect for some more is a second baseman
- 18:47Speaker 4: who debuted last year, and you know, he shruggled a
- 18:50Speaker 4: little bit. But the Angels kind of rushed their prospects,
- 18:52Speaker 4: and so that's to be expected. I don't think they
- 18:54Speaker 4: want to take more out of the equation entirely. So
- 18:57Speaker 4: you know, I think for them, you could argue that
- 18:59Speaker 4: if they we're going to spend, it wouldn't make a
- 19:02Speaker 4: ton of sense to go after a middle infielder. Maybe
- 19:04Speaker 4: a different position would make more sense. The other teams,
- 19:09Speaker 4: like the Dodgers, don't really have a lock in second basement,
- 19:11Speaker 4: but they like to kind of kick things around. Kick
- 19:14Speaker 4: guys are on, you know, muse Edmund there or if
- 19:16Speaker 4: I Sang Kim could play there, and so I don't
- 19:18Speaker 4: know that they want to make a long term commitment
- 19:20Speaker 4: and then lock in bets and Baschet. But I think
- 19:23Speaker 4: that not mentioning the Dodgers at all on any top
- 19:25Speaker 4: free agent just you know, you never want to rule
- 19:28Speaker 4: them out. Atlanta certainly needs a shortstop, but it's just
- 19:32Speaker 4: a question of whether they'll play at the top of
- 19:34Speaker 4: the market. And if they are going to sign a
- 19:36Speaker 4: free agent shortsop, then I imagine that they would prefer
- 19:38Speaker 4: to bring back hoss On Kim for less than half
- 19:40Speaker 4: the price. And the Texas, you know, they would have
- 19:45Speaker 4: been not a fit at all a couple of weeks ago. Obviously,
- 19:48Speaker 4: they just traded Marcus Semiens, so they don't really have
- 19:49Speaker 4: a second basement. And now part of the reason that
- 19:52Speaker 4: they made the semi nimo trade is that they're probably
- 19:54Speaker 4: scaling back payroll.
- 19:56Speaker 2: But if we had more like.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Conviction that they were willing to spend, I think on
- 20:01Speaker 4: paper they make a ton of sense. It's just a
- 20:03Speaker 4: question of whether they want to give out a seven
- 20:04Speaker 4: or eight your deal to anyone this off season.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to open up the conversation now, past
- 20:13Speaker 1: Bow and Anthony, you do a lot of writing for
- 20:15Speaker 1: MLB trade rumors, about everything going on. This is like
- 20:18Speaker 1: the prime time of the year for the website, along
- 20:22Speaker 1: with the trade deadline of course in July. So I'll
- 20:26Speaker 1: open it up to you in terms of what you've
- 20:28Speaker 1: written in the past say month or so that you
- 20:32Speaker 1: think actually could happen. Right, A lot of rumors get
- 20:35Speaker 1: thrown out there. There's no shortage of rumors these days.
- 20:38Speaker 1: There's probably more now than ever, as you can quickly
- 20:40Speaker 1: try to become an insider on social media. There are
- 20:43Speaker 1: a few that actually do the top job of breaking
- 20:46Speaker 1: news and getting it right almost every time. But from
- 20:49Speaker 1: a signing and trade perspective, what do you think really
- 20:53Speaker 1: hits and could realistically happen.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I'm curious to see where the rotation
- 20:59Speaker 4: trademark it goes. I think that it was a pretty
- 21:03Speaker 4: quiet deadline for starting pitching trades. We kind of expected
- 21:06Speaker 4: a little bit more than we got in the asking price,
- 21:09Speaker 4: I guess for teams that were selling pitching just was
- 21:12Speaker 4: so high. Now, I don't I would be shocked if
- 21:15Speaker 4: the Tiger's traded to card School. I don't think that
- 21:16Speaker 4: makes much sense. But you know, the twins are kind
- 21:19Speaker 4: of in a they are not necessarily calling it a rebuild,
- 21:22Speaker 4: but they sold a lot of the deadline, and so
- 21:24Speaker 4: you've got Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez, and if they're
- 21:27Speaker 4: not going to reinvest and rebuild an entire bullpen and
- 21:30Speaker 4: deep in the lineup, like, it doesn't make a whole
- 21:31Speaker 4: lot of sense to just go into the season with
- 21:34Speaker 4: the team they have now, which is clearly not going
- 21:35Speaker 4: to be good enough, and so I could see them
- 21:37Speaker 4: being more aggressive and selling later in the offseason. I
- 21:41Speaker 4: think that the Nationals with Mackenzie Gore, it's the same
- 21:44Speaker 4: kind of situation where he's got two years of team control.
- 21:46Speaker 4: They haven't gotten out of the rebuild yet, and so
- 21:49Speaker 4: you know, they've got a new front office, new manager.
- 21:52Speaker 4: It probably takes a little bit of time for them
- 21:54Speaker 4: to come in and get the lay of the land.
- 21:56Speaker 4: But at some point later this offseason, I think that
- 21:57Speaker 4: you could see Gore on the move as well. Maybe
- 22:00Speaker 4: you get I don't know that I would take either
- 22:02Speaker 4: Gore or Ryan over Garrett Crouschet where Krushet was last year,
- 22:06Speaker 4: but a trade of that kind of magnitude later in
- 22:11Speaker 4: the off season, maybe even at the winter meetings.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Anthony, how long have you been writing for MLB trade rumors.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Uh, six years part time, I think full time for four.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Okay, So when I played, I finished in twenty twenty,
- 22:27Speaker 3: I had gotten traded eight different times, and MLB trade
- 22:32Speaker 3: rumors not once told me I was going to get traded.
- 22:35Speaker 3: And as a player, that is tough to hear. So
- 22:38Speaker 3: you guys got to get your sources. Bet No, I
- 22:41Speaker 3: just want people to know that it's you guys do
- 22:43Speaker 3: an incredible job. And honestly, I know a lot of
- 22:46Speaker 3: players that read it, watch it and not saying it
- 22:51Speaker 3: took over for Baseball America, but Baseball America's had had
- 22:54Speaker 3: the They had the books in our clubhouse and dudes
- 22:58Speaker 3: would always be pulling up MLB trade rumors. So you
- 23:02Speaker 3: guys do a great job.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Well, thank you. I appreciate It's always it's always kind
- 23:07Speaker 4: of ratifying to you know, you get players or fun
- 23:09Speaker 4: office people are like, oh yeah, we actually read the
- 23:11Speaker 4: stuff that you guys put up.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no doubt. We are all hooked and we
- 23:17Speaker 1: will continue to be the rest of the off season. Anthony,
- 23:20Speaker 1: great to have you, odd Man, really appreciate it, and
- 23:22Speaker 1: welcome to have Tea as a guest here for the
- 23:24Speaker 1: first time. I hope you enjoyed it.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I did.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Anytime that I really appreciate it,
