- 0:01Speaker 1: So be careful when you see some of those dating apps.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You'll see things on Facebook telling you that mister Wright
- 0:11Speaker 1: is here under whatever apps name that they have find
- 0:16Speaker 1: certain kind of love or whatever those may be. And
- 0:20Speaker 1: they start to reel you in and to get the information,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and then you start sending pictures. Then you start telling
- 0:26Speaker 1: them where you live as far as the state, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: they'll tell you that they don't live too far from you,
- 0:30Speaker 1: or they used to live in that state, or they'll
- 0:32Speaker 1: come up with a name of a place that you
- 0:35Speaker 1: may have mentioned already on your Facebook. But let me
- 0:37Speaker 1: tell you, they have been watching you for a while.
- 0:41Speaker 1: They have been doing their homework. They've been getting relative names.
- 0:46Speaker 1: When they go on your social media platform, they see
- 0:50Speaker 1: who you are connected with. They do all sorts of things.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So we're gonna talk about social media, which is famous
- 0:57Speaker 1: for stans. Social medias they can take many forms, including
- 1:04Speaker 1: fake giveaways. I know you guys seeing them because I've
- 1:07Speaker 1: seen them a lot too. They're getting this away a
- 1:09Speaker 1: trip to here. Just send ten dollars or you've won
- 1:15Speaker 1: send them this amount of money or for the process
- 1:19Speaker 1: and fee to send you that gift that's worth over
- 1:23Speaker 1: five hundred dollars fishing attempts, which I mentioned earlier in
- 1:28Speaker 1: those romance scams. Again, they're on Facebook, they're on ig
- 1:33Speaker 1: I guess Instagram, they're on X They're on just every
- 1:36Speaker 1: platform you can think of. Because you're on there, you're
- 1:40Speaker 1: on there, but you're being genuine. You're speaking to your
- 1:42Speaker 1: friends and your family, and you're sharing pictures. You're saying
- 1:46Speaker 1: where you've been, You've been to the movies, you've been
- 1:49Speaker 1: out on islands, you're getting ready to take a vacation.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So is where you go right there, that's where it starts.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You're telling them where you're going, on them, who you're
- 2:00Speaker 1: going with. You're telling them more information then you should.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And I'm not saying that you shouldn't share certain things
- 2:07Speaker 1: on social media, but be mindful. One of the things
- 2:11Speaker 1: that I have seen on social media is that impersonation
- 2:15Speaker 1: of scams. Sometimes I'll say me, I'll use me for instance,
- 2:21Speaker 1: I can have people on it that I know, and
- 2:23Speaker 1: then somebody will want to be my friend on social media,
- 2:27Speaker 1: so they'll what does that catfish somebody else and be
- 2:32Speaker 1: their friends. So now if I look at them, we
- 2:34Speaker 1: have one mutual friend and that's that person. But what
- 2:38Speaker 1: it is is that we both have that mutual friend
- 2:40Speaker 1: and they're both they're doing the same thing to both
- 2:42Speaker 1: of us. They're trying to get that information. So if
- 2:46Speaker 1: I see that that person has less than a certain
- 2:48Speaker 1: amount of friends, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna befriend you.
- 2:52Speaker 1: So please don't befriend me if you don't have a
- 2:56Speaker 1: certain amount of friends, because ten friends, that means those
- 2:59Speaker 1: a problem, ten people that you scammed. Some people may
- 3:02Speaker 1: say that you just started coming on social media. Come on, now,
- 3:07Speaker 1: it's twenty twenty five and you're just coming on social media.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Or maybe I had to get rid of that page
- 3:14Speaker 1: because somebody hacked into it. I believe at this point
- 3:17Speaker 1: right now, I've heard just about everything that is, and
- 3:20Speaker 1: I've been doing a lot of homework trying to figure
- 3:23Speaker 1: out ways that I won't be scammed again and ways
- 3:26Speaker 1: that you won't be scammed. So impersonation is one. They
- 3:32Speaker 1: go into your DMS, they get your information. You post
- 3:35Speaker 1: pictures about your parents and your family and your connections
- 3:38Speaker 1: with cousins and places that you would work and things
- 3:43Speaker 1: that you do. To guess what's on that car your
- 3:48Speaker 1: license plate number. So now, if they're that good, they
- 3:53Speaker 1: can figure out where you live. It's already telling you
- 3:55Speaker 1: what states you're in, so now they're gonna figure out
- 3:58Speaker 1: what you where you live. You put a lot of
- 4:01Speaker 1: information on there, the date of birth, which we all do.
- 4:04Speaker 1: We celebrate each other, we say happy birthday to each other,
- 4:07Speaker 1: but that's still more information. I'm not telling you not
- 4:09Speaker 1: to share when your birthday is, but you don't have
- 4:12Speaker 1: to put the year. Some people even lying about it
- 4:15Speaker 1: and say that they were born one month and they
- 4:18Speaker 1: really wasn't, you know, just because of things like that
- 4:21Speaker 1: for scams, all of which aim to trip users into
- 4:26Speaker 1: sharing personal information. On money again, you want a prize,
- 4:32Speaker 1: just pay the shipping. Come on, now, pay the shipping
- 4:37Speaker 1: and they're going to send you something. So the shipping
- 4:40Speaker 1: could be four dollars, and they're telling you that you've
- 4:42Speaker 1: won a prize for five hundred dollars. Who do you
- 4:44Speaker 1: know that's gonna give away something worth five hundred dollars
- 4:49Speaker 1: just to collect four dollars. Make flag that's a scam.
- 4:53Speaker 1: It's unrealistic. Prizes they have poor grammar, and I don't
- 4:59Speaker 1: mean to call nobody. Yeah they name but these are
- 5:01Speaker 1: idiots or either I know. I was at the time,
- 5:03Speaker 1: I'm going to be the first of a minute. Because
- 5:05Speaker 1: I was scammed, I call myself an idiot or either
- 5:08Speaker 1: a fool or somebody who just didn't know. But I'm
- 5:11Speaker 1: not calling you an idiot or what I'm doing is
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm trying to give you some information so this won't
- 5:17Speaker 1: happen to you. So look for that poor grammar or
- 5:20Speaker 1: spelling in the post that doesn't even make sense, Like
- 5:23Speaker 1: what what are they talking about? What do they mean? Oh,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you know it was a typo. In my case, I say, oh,
- 5:31Speaker 1: my nail, so I'm using my knuckles. Well, for me,
- 5:33Speaker 1: it is my nail. So I will make some typos,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but I'll put down typo or I'll re do the
- 5:40Speaker 1: whole thing and tell you. But I'm not somebody that's
- 5:42Speaker 1: gonna scam you. But look for those typos. And they
- 5:46Speaker 1: request for personal information, like in social security numbers or
- 5:50Speaker 1: your bank details. Some people like to brag that they
- 5:54Speaker 1: got a certain amount of money in the bank, or
- 5:57Speaker 1: they open up a certain account with some they belong
- 6:01Speaker 1: to certain at unions and purchase they car and they
- 6:08Speaker 1: was able to get a house because they did this.
- 6:10Speaker 1: They did that, you're giving them too much information. If
- 6:14Speaker 1: that's something that you want to share with your friends,
- 6:16Speaker 1: congratulations that you brought the car and that you that
- 6:18Speaker 1: you got a new job and everything. But use old school.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Call them on the phone, let them know about your success.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That way, friend may go on there and say congratulations
- 6:29Speaker 1: about your success, but they don't have to mention what
- 6:33Speaker 1: it was. Urging requests for information. Oh, I really need
- 6:40Speaker 1: your social Security number right now because I got to
- 6:43Speaker 1: put it in by by midnight, otherwise you won't be
- 6:46Speaker 1: able to get the prize and it'll be going away.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I've heard that before. Suspicious links. Now, certain things may
- 6:57Speaker 1: be spelled a certain way. So I'll say, like my
- 7:00Speaker 1: name black blaqu each, So some people may be suspicious
- 7:04Speaker 1: because they'll say black is not spelt like that. Well,
- 7:07Speaker 1: this black is not the color that's my name. But
- 7:11Speaker 1: you may see things that may be a little off
- 7:14Speaker 1: like that. Check it out and request the verify accounts.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Outside of the official platform, you can verify accounts. What
- 7:23Speaker 1: you can do is you can connect with somebody or
- 7:27Speaker 1: connect with maybe that company to find out if that's
- 7:32Speaker 1: an official platform. Like I did with the book company
- 7:36Speaker 1: publishing company. I eventually went to the real place. I
- 7:41Speaker 1: contacted them instead of them always contacting me from that
- 7:45Speaker 1: number that they had. So I started going on the
- 7:47Speaker 1: internet and looking it up, and what I found was
- 7:51Speaker 1: that their information and their information was a duplicate. I'm
- 7:56Speaker 1: saying I would have to be a professional to be
- 8:00Speaker 1: able to tell what was the difference. You remember those
- 8:03Speaker 1: games sometimes you see in the newspaper when we was
- 8:05Speaker 1: reading newspapers where it would say that here's a picture
- 8:08Speaker 1: of something, and here's a picture of something. Can you
- 8:10Speaker 1: spot what's different in this picture and what's different in
- 8:14Speaker 1: this picture? There's ten things different. How many of you
- 8:17Speaker 1: only got through four because you couldn't spot some of
- 8:20Speaker 1: those other things. Well, that's what happens also when you're
- 8:24Speaker 1: being scammed. There's something about this picture and this picture
- 8:29Speaker 1: that they looked exactly the same, but there was something
- 8:33Speaker 1: in there that was different that my eyes just didn't catch.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Scammers create fake profiles. They mimic real individuals or organizations
- 8:45Speaker 1: to gain trust, and they asks for money or personal information.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And what is so sad is that they use children,
- 8:54Speaker 1: they use charities and they say that I'm with this,
- 8:58Speaker 1: that and the other. I'll say ABC for lung cancer
- 9:02Speaker 1: or for something with children and you can help. And
- 9:05Speaker 1: they'll show a picture of a child who's probably in
- 9:07Speaker 1: a photo that you can get from one of the
- 9:10Speaker 1: big stores, and they'll post it and say that that's
- 9:14Speaker 1: their child sick or dying or need surgery or something
- 9:19Speaker 1: like that. That's another rick flag. It was poorly written. Profile.
- 9:26Speaker 1: A lack of verification is sometimes they have a lack
- 9:29Speaker 1: of verification and badges that they send. They'll tell you
- 9:33Speaker 1: that you are one of the top people who got
- 9:36Speaker 1: a badge, and this, that and the other. The badges
- 9:39Speaker 1: are fake. They really don't belong to any organization or company.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So they requested money. They're saying that you have populated
- 9:47Speaker 1: to be their number one fan, and you're feeling good
- 9:50Speaker 1: because they're telling you you're number one, But what they're
- 9:54Speaker 1: really doing is requested money and sensitive information because now
- 9:57Speaker 1: that you're number one and you are fan, so that
- 10:00Speaker 1: you're thinking that, oh, we're cool, we're good, we're friends.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I'm always on their page, they're always on mind. Well,
- 10:06Speaker 1: they're always on yours for a reason because they want
- 10:08Speaker 1: that information. But there's one scam that just tickles me,
- 10:14Speaker 1: and that's the family emergency scam. Someone in your family
- 10:18Speaker 1: is ill. They'll tell you that they were injured or
- 10:22Speaker 1: been in an accident or the death or funeral of
- 10:26Speaker 1: an immediate or extended family member and they need the
- 10:29Speaker 1: money for a funeral costs. Let me ask you something.
- 10:33Speaker 1: If that's the case, why are you just hearing about
- 10:37Speaker 1: that family emergency when it comes to them dying all
- 10:40Speaker 1: that time and they were sick, Nobody called you to
- 10:44Speaker 1: tell you that uncle so and so was sick. Aren't
- 10:47Speaker 1: so and so passed away? And a family And when
- 10:50Speaker 1: I say the family, the family knows about it, not
- 10:54Speaker 1: just one person calling you. Now on social media, you
- 10:57Speaker 1: see people posting it that this person and passed away,
- 11:02Speaker 1: that person passed away and they need help, or they
- 11:04Speaker 1: do that go fund me, which I think is a
- 11:08Speaker 1: crime in itself for people to use gofund me. But
- 11:13Speaker 1: people are going so far as posting a person's picture,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and again it could be the picture from one of
- 11:20Speaker 1: those stores of saying that this is their relative. So
- 11:24Speaker 1: they'll get somebody that may be from the same culture,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'll say of them, and they'll go so far as
- 11:31Speaker 1: making a flyer and they're putting a date on there,
- 11:35Speaker 1: and maybe they'll say, like their grandmother who was born
- 11:38Speaker 1: in nineteen I'll say nineteen fifty, and she passed away
- 11:43Speaker 1: on a certain day, And a lot of times they'll
- 11:46Speaker 1: say a current date and it's usually around a holiday
- 11:50Speaker 1: or something like that, and that's when they start reeling
- 11:53Speaker 1: you in because you're starting to feel bad. And then
- 11:56Speaker 1: they start to tell you that maybe it was a
- 11:58Speaker 1: week before their birthday, or maybe that person just turned
- 12:02Speaker 1: a certain age, and they're telling you where you can
- 12:06Speaker 1: send money for the funeral, and it's not the funeral home.
- 12:12Speaker 1: The flowers are not going there, and they're usually saying,
- 12:14Speaker 1: lieu of this, send that, or she didn't want flowers.
- 12:20Speaker 1: We really need the money to bury her or him
- 12:23Speaker 1: and get a tombstone, or we need to buy them
- 12:26Speaker 1: a suit or dress or whatever the case is, or
- 12:30Speaker 1: to help with maybe the transportation of people to get there.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So they have creative ways, and you'll see a flyer
- 12:39Speaker 1: and it's just as beautiful as can be and it
- 12:42Speaker 1: has all the fixings on there where you'll see the
- 12:46Speaker 1: date that they're gonna celebrate I don't want to say celebrate,
- 12:50Speaker 1: but celebrate that person's life. And they'll say that a
- 12:53Speaker 1: celebration in life, and they'll have a picture of them
- 12:57Speaker 1: here and all the details all around it, and you know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: beautiful colors and things like that, and they're rilling you in.
- 13:05Speaker 1: They're actually telling you that this some scammers who are
- 13:12Speaker 1: supposed to be your family and could very well be.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Look scammers are related to someone, and unfortunately that someone
- 13:22Speaker 1: may just be in your family. They even go so
- 13:25Speaker 1: far as to tell you that the stranded overseas or
- 13:28Speaker 1: they're stranded in another state, they lost their luggage, they
- 13:31Speaker 1: lost a plane ticket, somebody lift their wallet. Everything, they'll
- 13:38Speaker 1: come up with that, and that you're the only one
- 13:40Speaker 1: who can help them. They will also insist that you
- 13:44Speaker 1: keep the situation a secret from other family members, and
- 13:47Speaker 1: that's preventing you from verifying the story. But the more
- 13:51Speaker 1: serious one is when they scam. The scammer claims that
- 13:56Speaker 1: your loved one has been kidnapped and they demand and
- 14:00Speaker 1: ran some money. Although this can happen and it can
- 14:04Speaker 1: be true, you should notify the authorities, even if they
- 14:09Speaker 1: tell you not to call the authorities. So don't try
- 14:12Speaker 1: to forego it by yourself. It could be dangerous because
- 14:17Speaker 1: in some cases it really could be that a family
- 14:20Speaker 1: member was kidnapped because you put so much information on
- 14:25Speaker 1: your social media that indicates that you have money, or
- 14:29Speaker 1: you come from money, or that you haven't like that.
- 14:32Speaker 1: So they figured, let's target this person. Either they're really
- 14:36Speaker 1: going to kidnap that family member of yours because they
- 14:38Speaker 1: see the picture you're showing pictures of your kids. You're
- 14:42Speaker 1: telling them that, oh, my little Johnny's just graduated fifth
- 14:45Speaker 1: grade at whatever whatever whatever elementary school. And they already
- 14:49Speaker 1: know what state you're in. So how hard do you
- 14:52Speaker 1: think it's going to be for them to see that
- 14:54Speaker 1: picture that you have of Johnny. You post a lot
- 14:57Speaker 1: of information up there, plus your pictures there. How far
- 15:01Speaker 1: do you think they'll go by trying to put themselves
- 15:04Speaker 1: into a picture with you so they can get to
- 15:08Speaker 1: your kids school and say, mom set to pick you up.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And your kid may be hesitant because you taught them well,
- 15:14Speaker 1: but now they're showing them a picture. You remember, I'm
- 15:17Speaker 1: uncle so and so Phone, I was at the birthday party.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Remember the birthday party that they had for Grandpa. Yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I'm your uncle so and so. These stammards are clever
- 15:27Speaker 1: and they're good, So be mindful because they could really
- 15:31Speaker 1: be taking a relative of yours and really be asking
- 15:34Speaker 1: for money. What about the cousin who needs bail money
- 15:40Speaker 1: an sap or they'll hit you up with hey auntie,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I lost my while and can you send me two
- 15:46Speaker 1: hundred dollars? But guess what your niece that's supposed to
- 15:51Speaker 1: be a phone or your nephew, they're sitting right next
- 15:55Speaker 1: to you, so that's not a hey auntie, can you
- 15:59Speaker 1: send me two hundred or that the cousin needs bail money?
- 16:03Speaker 1: You know they have something that you can go on
- 16:05Speaker 1: now to see if your cousin was really arrested. Or
- 16:07Speaker 1: call your cousin's mother she may know that her child
- 16:11Speaker 1: was arrested. Or call another relative. They may know whether
- 16:17Speaker 1: was arrested or not. Oh yeah, you need bail money.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Where are you at where they hold it? Come down
- 16:26Speaker 1: and bail you by my say oh no, no, no, no, no,
- 16:28Speaker 1: you're not gonna come all the way down here to
- 16:29Speaker 1: do that. Just send the money, or my dude is
- 16:32Speaker 1: gonna pick it up. I'm gonna send my girl to
- 16:34Speaker 1: pick up. They go there because sometimes they have partners,
- 16:38Speaker 1: partners in crime. They don't have somebody that will do
- 16:43Speaker 1: it with them, or they could really be your cousin
- 16:46Speaker 1: saying look, I know my cousin got some money. All
- 16:49Speaker 1: we gotta do is tell him or her that I'm
- 16:53Speaker 1: in jail because we were take growing up up and
- 16:59Speaker 1: tell him that you gonna come by and pick up
- 17:01Speaker 1: the money and I'll give you a X amount of money.
- 17:06Speaker 1: And here you go giving them the money because you
- 17:09Speaker 1: believe that your cousin is in jail and they need
- 17:12Speaker 1: to bail money out. But guess what, verify the story.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Don't be fooled by urgency, be wary of requests for
- 17:24Speaker 1: secret money transgress. There's nothing in the world that's that's
- 17:28Speaker 1: much of a secret where you can't tell family if
- 17:31Speaker 1: they are truly your family and you trust them in
- 17:35Speaker 1: that way. What's the big secret? You in jail? You
- 17:38Speaker 1: in jail, you've been arrested. You really need to bail
- 17:42Speaker 1: money to get out. But whyt sho to be a secret?
- 17:44Speaker 1: Or I don't want my mother to know because it'll
- 17:47Speaker 1: hurt her. Well, guess what, you shouldn't have did what
- 17:51Speaker 1: you did to put yourself and then I get it.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Some people are arrested for things that they actually didn't do.
- 17:57Speaker 1: But people are stammers, So be careful and be mindful.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Already found before we wrap this up. I want you
- 18:08Speaker 1: to remember one thing. Scammer is a slick, but so
- 18:13Speaker 1: will you. The more you know, the harder it is
- 18:17Speaker 1: for them to run game on you. So stay sharp,
- 18:21Speaker 1: stay alert, and don't let anybody rush you into anything
- 18:25Speaker 1: that doesn't feel right. If you feel uncomfortable or you
- 18:29Speaker 1: have to second guess something, then you know that it's
- 18:33Speaker 1: probably a scam. Call a relative or call somebody. Somebody
- 18:38Speaker 1: always knows something, and listen, there is no shame if
- 18:44Speaker 1: you've ever been scanned before. It happens to the best
- 18:47Speaker 1: of us. What matters is what you do next. Share
- 18:52Speaker 1: your story like I'm sharing minds with you, help someone else,
- 18:56Speaker 1: stay safe, and keep the conversation going. Talk about scams,
- 19:02Speaker 1: talk about frauds. There's nothing wrong with that. Oh and
- 19:07Speaker 1: just to let you know, I got my money back,
- 19:11Speaker 1: So keep your receipts. Contact your bank and the local
- 19:15Speaker 1: authorities because they will investigate to make sure that you're
- 19:20Speaker 1: not trying to scam your bank, because some people do that.
- 19:24Speaker 1: But what happens is if they find out that it
- 19:26Speaker 1: was a scam, they're gonna take that money right back
- 19:29Speaker 1: out of your account, or you're gonna probably have other problems.
- 19:33Speaker 1: So don't try to scam your bank. For one, it's federal.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And if you feel as though you look good in
- 19:39Speaker 1: that orange jump too, then go for it. This has
- 19:42Speaker 1: been basic Black after Dark with your girl Black Diamond,
- 19:46Speaker 1: where we meet you where you are and give you
- 19:49Speaker 1: what you need. Join us on April fourth, as I
