Latest / What's Your (Least) Favorite Scary Movie? / #242: Trap (2024)
Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10Nope, mom, she doesn't care about the carpet.
- 0:13Well, good. What's your least scary movie?
- 0:14The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:17the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:18And least favorite? Scary movies.
- 0:20Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has this fan
- 0:22base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:24My name is Travis. My name is Jesse and welcome to
- 0:26your new month. Yep, and you know what's what?
- 0:31Is it? Yeah.
- 0:35So excited about it. I don't think I really have much
- 0:39by the way of new announcements other than we've got to finish
- 0:42up our screen, screen mini reviews.
- 0:44Yeah, we got that. So OK, let's just go right on
- 0:47into that then. OK.
- 0:48So our screen screen, we last left you guys off on Hatchet 3.
- 0:54So on the 26th we did Belko experiment.
- 0:57Yes. I just, I don't know, I just
- 1:00felt like watching it there. There wasn't like really a
- 1:03particular reason, but I always forgot how good the cast is
- 1:08until I'm watching it and then I'm like, oh man.
- 1:09I think it's funny that you feel like you need to justify it
- 1:12further than you wanted to watch it.
- 1:14Well, yeah, it's a fun. Movie.
- 1:16I didn't feel like I needed to justify it.
- 1:17I was just explaining. There wasn't anything other than
- 1:19that. Oh.
- 1:20OK, well after that it was my pick.
- 1:23I did see No Evil 2 and yeah, it's I can't.
- 1:29It's one of those ones that I am in disbelief of how recent or
- 1:33release it is, but it's a decent little movie.
- 1:37It's OK. It's it's good for someone to
- 1:38just throw on. I like it and I prefer it to the
- 1:41first one. Yeah, I haven't watched the
- 1:43first one since I was in middle school.
- 1:44It's. The point of contention between
- 1:46us, yeah. All right, next was a new pic
- 1:49from Jesse. It was Ouija, originally it was
- 1:52going to be tarot but the fucking assholes over at Netflix
- 1:57are like Oh well you've got the cheapo plan with ads so fuck you
- 2:01and your choices. Yeah, so that's some bullshit.
- 2:04They walk it behind certain tiers of the plans that was not
- 2:08discussed. Ads, fine, whatever, fuck it.
- 2:11But like, if you're going to start walking shit behind that,
- 2:13no, that's not cool. Yeah, don't like it.
- 2:15Yeah, so I was like, well, let's find something else.
- 2:19And I'd never seen Weegee, and I'd heard plenty about it, and I
- 2:23wanted to watch it. I've heard that the sequel,
- 2:26prequel, a lot of people say it's better, but I don't wanna
- 2:30watch this one. That's what.
- 2:32We did, you know, it wasn't as bad as people talk get up to be.
- 2:36It was, I mean, it was kind of hokey at times, but other than
- 2:40that I thought it was OK. Like everybody acts like the
- 2:43movie, like personally slapped them or something, but like,
- 2:46like, it was fine. It was a decent thing to have on
- 2:49while we were putting on Halloween makeup.
- 2:51Yeah, I thought it was good. It was a good time.
- 2:53All right, then we threw on my new pic, which was Night of the
- 2:57Demons remake. Yeah.
- 2:59So that was a fun time. I was just curious because I'd
- 3:04seen it around and I wanted to know what a modern take would
- 3:07be. And, you know, if you're worried
- 3:09that it's a beat for beat, don't beat, because it's entirely its
- 3:13own thing. They had fun with it.
- 3:14I like the cast. I thought it was pretty good.
- 3:16They kept enough of the spirit that it feels like it deserves
- 3:20to be called a remake, but it's not like it does new things with
- 3:25it. And I think that's.
- 3:26It was fun to watch. It made it its own thing.
- 3:29Yeah. Phil.
- 3:29Yeah. It was a good time.
- 3:31I liked it. Yeah.
- 3:32OK. Then we had a neutral pick.
- 3:34We went and saw smile too. Yeah.
- 3:36It was everything I wanted it to be, honestly.
- 3:40Yeah, it was really, really good.
- 3:41I I was super impressed with it. I really enjoyed it.
- 3:44I liked that it immediately picked up where the last one
- 3:46left off without explaining anything it was.
- 3:49Funny, that was cool. I'd had this conversation with
- 3:51my mom. I was like, yeah, we're going to
- 3:53go see Smile too. And she was like, I saw I wanna
- 3:55see the first one. And I was like, well, I'll let
- 3:57you know if this is one that you absolutely have to see the first
- 4:00one before or not. And I texted her after it.
- 4:02I was like, can confirm, Absolutely must watch the first
- 4:05one or you're gonna be lost. You're gonna be.
- 4:07So I mean, they kind of explain the things.
- 4:10You could kind of watch this movie as its own separate thing,
- 4:13but you're not gonna get the opening 5 minutes at least.
- 4:16Yeah, you're not gonna get the opening 5 minutes.
- 4:18And also when that one character comes in and gives the brief
- 4:22background, it feels if this was your first time watching it, it
- 4:27would feel unearned. As opposed to like in the first
- 4:29one where you're going through the process of learning the
- 4:32backgrounds. Whereas this feels kind of like
- 4:34exposition dump, but it's really just there because the audience
- 4:37is otherwise going to be like, well, how is she gonna figure
- 4:39out what's going on? You know what I mean?
- 4:41Yeah, it was, it was good. I recommend it to anybody.
- 4:44Yeah, that wants to watch that. It was a lot of fun and we
- 4:47actually watched that before coming home and watching Trap,
- 4:49and that was kind of a really awesome double feature.
- 4:52It was so fitting. It was such a good pairing.
- 4:55OK. And then that brings us to
- 4:57Halloween, which is our tradition.
- 4:58We always do the same movies on Halloween and then we, you know,
- 5:02if we run out of them, we throw some on top.
- 5:04But we did trick or treat. As trick or treating was going
- 5:08on. Yes, and Halloween, the
- 5:11original, you know, you got to do those.
- 5:13Yeah, it's Halloween tradition. It is for us at Yeah, you know,
- 5:17at least. So yeah, that was our Scream
- 5:19screen. Those are the movies that we
- 5:21watched all throughout October. We will hit you guys up again
- 5:25with this whenever he gets back to October next year.
- 5:27Yep. So yeah.
- 5:28But before then, before then, we've seen a lot of.
- 5:32Movies to talk about? I don't have polls.
- 5:35Nope. For today again.
- 5:36I just dropped the ball. It's just been another weird
- 5:38week. And you know, that's a lame
- 5:40excuse, but it was. It's true, yeah.
- 5:44It's been, it's been kind of wild over here.
- 5:47But look, I'll get him next week.
- 5:48At least we had the screen, screen stuff to discuss
- 5:50beforehand. Yeah, we won't have that next
- 5:52week. So I'll have it next week for
- 5:53sure. OK, so trap.
- 5:56OK Trap Trap released August 2nd of 2024.
- 6:00We watched it on Max but right now you can also watch it on
- 6:03YouTube, Prime Time, YouTube TV Premium, Hulu Premium, Prime
- 6:06Premium or you can rent it from Fandango at home or Google Play.
- 6:10Written and directed by M Night Shyamalan.
- 6:12Music by Erdis Stefan's daughter.
- 6:16But Salika Shyamalan did write Lady Raven songs.
- 6:21Some of them were like solo compositions and some had like
- 6:24additional writers. So just throwing that out there.
- 6:27I'll talk a little bit more about it in the fun Facts, OK?
- 6:30Cuz I yeah, I had some questions.
- 6:32Yeah, Starring Josh Hartnett as Cooper, Ariel Donahue as Riley,
- 6:36Salika Shyamalan as Lady Raven, Allison Pill is Rachel, Hayley
- 6:41Mills is Doctor Josephine Grant, and Jonathan Langdon as Jamie
- 6:45Travis. Yeah, time for our favorite game
- 6:48budget. This screams budget.
- 6:54Absolutely. Because M Night commands a
- 6:56budget. Yes, and you know he was doing
- 6:59his whole self funding thing. It was his production studio, so
- 7:03so. He's gonna go hard on.
- 7:04It yeah, it was a $30 million budget.
- 7:06I mean, Can you imagine just alone the amount of extras
- 7:09needed for this? Movie.
- 7:10Oh, right, it's. Insane.
- 7:11Oh, and something fun about that that'll be coming up here.
- 7:15Shortly hold. On.
- 7:17So wait, what was the budget? 30 million. 30 million, OK, one
- 7:21that's pretty good. Opening box office of 15,000,000
- 7:24in a worldwide gross of 82,000,000.
- 7:26IMDb score of 5.9 out of 10. OK, it did pretty good.
- 7:31What was the IMDb? 5.9.
- 7:34That's not bad. It's.
- 7:35Not bad, but I feel like before there's so much more.
- 7:38I think before when we first watched this movie, it sat right
- 7:41on the five. It's teetering a little bit more
- 7:44towards the positive side. That's true.
- 7:46That's true. Yeah.
- 7:47OK. I've pulled three other movies
- 7:50from this year and my overarching theme is seems
- 7:56inefficient. Seems inefficient.
- 7:59Cuz setting the whole FBI trap to catch one man.
- 8:05At a concert. Out of 30,000 people seems kind
- 8:08of inefficient. It does.
- 8:10Yeah, so the first one I have is Lisa Frankenstein and the manner
- 8:16in which they bring Cole Sprouse back to life.
- 8:19Bit rugged seems seems inefficient.
- 8:22Yeah, I, I. Was that 2024?
- 8:24Did I? Yeah.
- 8:25Come out. Yep, in fact, February 9th,
- 8:272024. That feels like a 2023 movie.
- 8:30It does, doesn't it? Yeah, it's been simultaneously
- 8:35and incredibly long and incredibly short year.
- 8:37No, that happens every year there.
- 8:38Every year. I'm always surprised by the
- 8:40early month releases. I'm like damn, really?
- 8:43OK Budget of 13 million and a worldwide gross of 9.9 million.
- 8:48IMDb score of 6.1 out of 10. Wow, I'm surprised that movie
- 8:52only made 9 million. Yeah, I feel like it didn't stay
- 8:55in theaters nearly long enough because I remember wanting to
- 8:59see it and we didn't even get a chance to.
- 9:01Yeah, you're right. I think I do remember that.
- 9:03So yeah, we had to wait for Peacock.
- 9:04Yeah. And it's not usually hard for us
- 9:06to be able to see a release here in town because.
- 9:09We Yeah, good releases here. Yeah, good Windows.
- 9:13The next 1 is long legs. Again, we've used that for every
- 9:172024 movie. However, you have to agree that
- 9:20it seems inefficient to pick one random new agent and say it
- 9:23seems like maybe you have ESP. You know, you're right.
- 9:28Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:30So that released July 12th, 2024.
- 9:33Don't have a budget, but a worldwide gross of 109 million
- 9:36and an IMDb score of 6.7 out of 10.
- 9:39OK. And then finally I've got The
- 9:42Strangers chapter 1. Again.
- 9:45Because of how they got the couple trapped in town and there
- 9:49was just too much going on to get these two like bland white
- 9:54folks stuck in this house. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:00You know, that's one I, I'm really interested in seeing the
- 10:04follow-ups on. Yeah.
- 10:06We're running out of time, that sequence.
- 10:07I've got to be out this year. Apparently they've had to.
- 10:11They've went and done reshoots. Oh boy.
- 10:13Because of the leaks of the identities of the killers.
- 10:16Oh boy. OK 'cause I mean we saw the IMDb
- 10:20like the IMDb credits were even the characters names.
- 10:23Yeah, 'cause we were like, wait, no, we.
- 10:24Don't. Yeah, Come on.
- 10:25That doesn't sound. Yeah, it doesn't seem.
- 10:27Yeah. So apparently they're retooling
- 10:30some stuff with that, which kind of sucks for them since they
- 10:33already had it all filmed. How the fuck did that leak I?
- 10:36We'll find out more when we cover that series, whenever that
- 10:39comes out down the line. Yeah so The Strangers chapter 1
- 10:44released May 17th 2024 budget of 8.5 million worldwide gross of
- 10:4847 million IMDb score 4.6 out of 10.
- 10:53Once again I'm going to plug the fact that we did like a mini
- 10:55review on this one on the Patreon.
- 10:57If you are a budget tier patron, you can listen to that if you
- 11:01sign up to be a budget to your Patreon.
- 11:02Hey, and you can listen to that if you want some positive
- 11:05thoughts on that. I get to share some on there
- 11:06because I didn't hate this movie as much as everybody.
- 11:09I I maintain if I had known going into it that it was a
- 11:13remake, I would've liked it a lot better.
- 11:16Yeah, I had. I had no clue.
- 11:18I thought we were getting a prequel.
- 11:20I get it. Well, if you want more of that,
- 11:22go to the Patreon episode. We we hash it out there pretty
- 11:25heavily. OK, I've only got 2 tag lines.
- 11:29Only two. Both on the poster, are they?
- 11:32Yeah, lame. I'll start with the lamer one
- 11:34first. A new M Night Shyamalan
- 11:36experience. Whoa, damn.
- 11:41Damn, he's so good. OK.
- 11:44And then 30,000 fans, 300 cops, 1 serial killer, no escape.
- 11:51That's kind of good. More than 300 cops, though.
- 11:54I don't know. It feels probably more than 300.
- 12:00Hmm, 350, I'll give you that. OK.
- 12:04Yeah, we'll give you 50 more just to top it off.
- 12:08OK, I got some fun facts. OK, you got what?
- 12:11Yeah, I got, I got a lot, you know, we kind of debated because
- 12:14I really didn't want to wait to cover this anymore.
- 12:16And Travis was like, well, if we wait till we get the disc, then
- 12:19we'll have behind the scenes stuff.
- 12:21But I was able to find quite a bit online.
- 12:24OK, so there were a few different inspirations for this
- 12:27movie. One of the inspirations was
- 12:29something called Operation Flagship, which was a 1985 sting
- 12:33operation where 101 fugitives were arrested at a Convention
- 12:36Center that they had all been invited, the two under the
- 12:39pretense of receiving free NFL tickets and the chance to win an
- 12:42all expenses paid trip to Super Bowl.
- 12:45Tony, if it sounds too good to be true.
- 12:49God, that's so funny. Can you imagine getting conned
- 12:53like that? Even being a fugitive wanted by
- 12:59the law and then you randomly are like hey, free NFL tickets.
- 13:04Dude, it's like, yeah, whenever I get the fucking Flyers in the
- 13:07mail, it's like, you won $1,000,000 and I'm like, I don't
- 13:11know about that. I was also partially inspired by
- 13:17Prince making the titular album to go along with the film Purple
- 13:21Rain in 1984. So M Night and Silica, we're
- 13:24talking about doing something that, like, you know, combines
- 13:28the concert experience with a theatrical experience.
- 13:31And he actually originally planned to just, like, sell the
- 13:35idea of the thriller to a different person to write and
- 13:39direct it. And then when he thought about
- 13:40it, he was like, well, I can just do this myself and work
- 13:44with my daughter. You know, I I hear the same
- 13:48story every fucking time we cover in M Night movies.
- 13:50Like, well, I thought about giving this to somebody else,
- 13:52and then I thought, wait a minute, I'm the director.
- 13:56I just like, you know, for the people that say that this was
- 13:59made explicitly to give her spotlight, it that wasn't
- 14:02originally the plan. So yeah.
- 14:07She actually, Jesse just stuck her tongue out at you people.
- 14:09I just want you to know that. And you want to know how he
- 14:12pitched it to some of the distribution companies.
- 14:16He pitched it as setting Silence of the Lambs at the Taylor Swift
- 14:20Areas tour. Interesting, interesting.
- 14:25Which that pitch would catch my attention so.
- 14:28Yeah, I can, like, imagine myself just like sitting back in
- 14:31the chair with my fingers, like together, like I'm listening.
- 14:36Just, you know, OK, tell me more.
- 14:38Apparently it took him 5 1/2 months to write the script which
- 14:41was quote UN quote a personal record.
- 14:44I don't know if that means it was a personal record and how
- 14:46long or how short it was to write it.
- 14:48Yeah, five months sounds like a long time.
- 14:49Yeah, for somebody that's written a ton of scripts, but I
- 14:54don't know. But as he was writing it, Selika
- 14:56was going along and she composed 14 songs for the film that are
- 14:59meant to, like, go along with the action that's happening in
- 15:02the film. And I kind of caught on to this
- 15:05part with you, the movie last night.
- 15:06And I started writing down the titles of the songs during the
- 15:09scenes as they were happening. And I was like, Oh my God, this
- 15:11matches up so. Well, what are the song titles?
- 15:14I'm curious. I don't have all of them, but
- 15:17once I started writing down, I'll make sure that I like point
- 15:19them out when we're talking. Are these like actual songs from
- 15:25like released under her own musical acts?
- 15:28Yes. So if you go and look at like
- 15:31how the soundtrack is listed, it said performed by Salika
- 15:34Shyamalan as Salika. So that's her like performer.
- 15:38Salika is her performer name OK Salika.
- 15:41Is there an actual first thing though?
- 15:42Right, Yeah, OK yeah. Josh Hartnett wanted his
- 15:45character to be his own, so he didn't like go and watch any
- 15:47specific type of media to draw from a character 'cause he
- 15:50really wanted to make it like its own thing.
- 15:54But what he did do was read a lot about psychopathy and serial
- 15:57killers. Oh, interesting.
- 15:58Yeah. So I thought that was kind of an
- 16:00interesting take and I think a spoiler for when we get into our
- 16:03thoughts. I think that that ended up
- 16:05working out really well for him, for sure.
- 16:08Originally this, I wrote all of this down for you, OK 'cause
- 16:12this is aspect ratio stuff and I know you found this stuff
- 16:14interesting. Yeah, I do.
- 16:15Yeah. So it was originally planned to
- 16:18be shot in four, three aspect ratio.
- 16:20But the cinematographer, Sambu Muktiprum, spoke with M Night
- 16:26and was like, hey, this is kind of limiting our shooting ability
- 16:29and it's creating too much work to make this claustrophobic
- 16:32feeling that we want. Oh, yeah.
- 16:34And so M Night agreed. And then they had to go and re
- 16:37storyboard everything and they changed it to 185 one.
- 16:40Wow. You know, actually thinking
- 16:42about that four by three would have been a really cool aspect
- 16:46ratio for this because, yeah, it does kind of make it feel a bit
- 16:49more close in and more tense. Yeah.
- 16:52But then again, whenever I'm thinking about it, when you're
- 16:54doing a big concert, you it's such a big yeah setting that I
- 16:57feel like having that big frame really helps a lot too.
- 17:01Yeah, I I can see why it would create problems for them.
- 17:05Yeah, I could see why it create problems, but I could also see
- 17:08it playing like it it actually working out too.
- 17:13I don't know I'd I'd be interested to see that cut.
- 17:16I I don't know how much of a cut there would be for that, because
- 17:19I don't think that they got very far.
- 17:21No, they were like, no. No, I know that.
- 17:23But like if they like made like an additional kind of like how
- 17:27they did it with in a violent nature where they shot in both.
- 17:30Oh yeah, yeah, OK. Yeah, Donahue attended school in
- 17:34between filming because she is actually like 12 when this is
- 17:38filming. The kid that played Riley, Yeah.
- 17:40Wow. And then finally, this was
- 17:43originally set to film in Cincinnati, so there could have
- 17:46been a chance for us to go up there and be concert extras.
- 17:49Yeah, for sure. We I would have done that.
- 17:51However, because it was filming during the SAG after strikes,
- 17:54they relocated to Toronto and they got an interim agreement
- 17:58allowing them to shoot during the strikes.
- 18:02During the strikes. But it's independent cuz it's
- 18:04Shyamalan, right? So is that what makes the
- 18:06difference? Yeah, well and also like I think
- 18:10it cuz it also depends on the people that are working with it
- 18:13too. I know that there were some
- 18:15productions that were able to queer with the the Guild.
- 18:19And this is one of those, Yeah. OK.
- 18:21Yeah, They had an interim agreement that made it OK for
- 18:24them to shoot like they were given the green light to do
- 18:27this. So.
- 18:28Yeah. So that's all my fun facts.
- 18:31There's plenty more out there. I just ran out of room on my
- 18:33paper. That was some interesting stuff
- 18:36I really appreciated. It.
- 18:37Yeah. I thought it was all pretty
- 18:38cool. Yeah.
- 18:39And you know what else is pretty cool?
- 18:41Now? It means that we can talk about
- 18:43our good, bad, ugly and absurd. OK, that is really cool.
- 18:46So I'll kick it off with my good here.
- 18:50So I, I love the feel of this movie.
- 18:55Whenever we were watching this in theaters, this was my
- 18:57birthday movie this year. So it has like a special place
- 19:01for me there. But also like, there's something
- 19:05about this movie that kind of feels like I'm watching a video
- 19:07game. So it's like a guy and you're
- 19:11seeing him like slowly progress and like pick up various items
- 19:14throughout, like a single location to like pieces way out
- 19:17of this situation. I thought that that was really
- 19:19cool. Also, I feel like the way some
- 19:21of the dialogue scenes are shot, it almost feels like I'm
- 19:24watching like your character interact with an MPC or
- 19:27something like that. It's just like the way that they
- 19:28framed it. I don't know, like things are
- 19:30like centered, like kind of like standing over.
- 19:34Some of the characters are like really zoomed in on their face
- 19:36at times. I thought it was really
- 19:38interesting. The movie is just really like
- 19:40shot interestingly, just in total.
- 19:44But I thought the movie had a lot of good, tense moments,
- 19:47especially in the concert setting.
- 19:50Just like seeing him dart his eyes around the concert and just
- 19:52being nervous about, like, them picking random men out from the
- 19:56crowd. And just like, you know, you
- 19:58kind of feel that tension that he's getting.
- 20:02I also feel like he killed it with his performance.
- 20:04Oh my God, yes. Like Josh Hartness, not exactly
- 20:08a guy that's on my radar. He's in a few things that I've
- 20:12watched, like H2O, yeah. But yeah, I don't really know
- 20:15much about him. So, you know, I didn't go into
- 20:17this movie being like a Josh Hartnett fan, but like this
- 20:20movie kind of made me a fan of. This He came out of this movie
- 20:22as a Josh Hartnett fan. I.
- 20:24Honestly, I did, he did an amazing job and hearing what you
- 20:27said about how he prepared for it really kind of I guess
- 20:31explains why because I feel like he really leaned into like the
- 20:35charisma of that character. Absolutely.
- 20:37Like seeing him like be super nice to his daughter, handle
- 20:41like the conversations with like the workers, they're just like
- 20:44seeing how calculated everything that he did was.
- 20:46And it really ties back to what the profiler, Dr. Grant says at
- 20:50the end to Rachel, where she's like, you know, nobody else
- 20:54would have been able to pick up on these signs.
- 20:56He's that. That's part of what makes him so
- 20:59good at what he does. Like he's charming and he lies
- 21:02really well. And maybe the only person who
- 21:04could have picked up on it earlier in his life would be
- 21:06apparent. Yeah, which we kind of get
- 21:09flashes of that being an actual truth too.
- 21:13And then also I just, I like how this movie went past the concert
- 21:18because like whenever we got out of the concert, I was like, how
- 21:21the fuck is this going to progress?
- 21:22Yes. And it was really well done.
- 21:24I thought like they did a good job of keeping it going because
- 21:27that's like half of the movie is out of it.
- 21:29Yes. I thought the entirety was going
- 21:31to be them there the entire time.
- 21:32But yeah, no, this movie surprised me.
- 21:34It did a lot of good things. So what's your good?
- 21:37I think that it's really, it's really fun having the concert
- 21:41setting. I know not everybody likes
- 21:42watching that, but I, I love watching like stage
- 21:46performances. So it was fun having that as an
- 21:49aspect of this. And you know what?
- 21:50I We can have the nepotism debate all you want, but I'm
- 21:54never gonna be mad about a director wanting to work with
- 21:57his daughter. No, there's something wrong like
- 21:59that. No, I guess I'm telling you
- 22:00same. Thing with Rob and Sherry Moon,
- 22:02like, yeah, put your wife in her in your films.
- 22:06She's an actress, you're a director.
- 22:08It makes sense. Yeah, that I don't have any
- 22:11issues with it. Let me say that there's
- 22:13something that I don't know, I guess you didn't find in your
- 22:16research, but I was reading about screenings of this movie
- 22:20beforehand, like before they made cuts, like I guess to the
- 22:24test audience, the original cut had full performances.
- 22:28Oh wow, that would have been a lot.
- 22:30Yeah. And I think that they cut it
- 22:31because it really dragged down the movie.
- 22:34Like it kind of killed the pacing.
- 22:35Yeah. So I.
- 22:36Could see that, yeah, it worked out better.
- 22:38But that right there, I feel like if he had kept that in
- 22:40there, then I would feel like this would have been more of a
- 22:43vanity project for his daughter. Because you're just like putting
- 22:46on full blown performances of your daughter in like this
- 22:49horror movie. And that's not what people are
- 22:50there for. Yeah.
- 22:52But we get a good mixture of it. We get a better balance after
- 22:55they cut it down in this version here.
- 22:57Yes, Josh Hartnett absolutely kills it.
- 23:02Yes, energy when he is like trying desperately to lie to his
- 23:10daughter and it just comes across as.
- 23:12I was, yeah. And I, I love that too, because
- 23:16it really kind of ties into his whole, like, keeping the two
- 23:19lives separate things. So.
- 23:20And he's trying not to ruin this experience for Riley.
- 23:24Yeah. And God, I I think people just
- 23:27don't really get a nice sense of humor sometimes because they're
- 23:30like, what? Cringy dialogue?
- 23:32I'm like, yeah, it's kind of the fucking point, yeah.
- 23:34He's like, he's desperate, so he's trying to, like, make a
- 23:38quick move real quick. And then sometimes you just say
- 23:41something stupid like that. And also I feel like he's feels
- 23:44like he's talking to a child still.
- 23:45So yeah, he's able to like, be, oh, wow, isn't that crazy?
- 23:49Let's go down into the hole there.
- 23:50And, you know, there could be all kinds of wild things down
- 23:52there that sounds like, you know, serial killer shit, too.
- 23:56Which she is. Yeah.
- 23:57Let's go into the hole and find out what's.
- 23:59Down. Don't you want to go in the hole
- 24:01in the ground? Yeah.
- 24:02Don't you want to? We'll see what's down there.
- 24:04Yeah, that's. Creepy.
- 24:05Yeah. And yeah.
- 24:07So I just think I think the whole thing is really great.
- 24:10I like that we keep getting into these situations.
- 24:12You're like, how is he going to get out of this one?
- 24:14How is he going to get out of this one?
- 24:16Yeah. And like, honestly, I was fully
- 24:18prepared to watch him, like, duck and roll out of the back of
- 24:22that van at the end. I was like, all right, let's
- 24:24watch three more hours of this. Shit, I was.
- 24:26Increasing stakes with Jock Chartnet trying to get away from
- 24:29the feds. As soon as it's on, picking the
- 24:31handcuffs is like, here we go, we're going even further.
- 24:35This is really funny. Like, that's the twist.
- 24:39The movie never ends. And yeah, it just keeps.
- 24:41It just keeps getting out of the trash, actually.
- 24:43Still in the theater. I was watching it.
- 24:48Yeah, yeah. Okay, what is your bad?
- 24:52So my bad. One thing is I don't feel like
- 24:56In Night's Daughter exactly gave a strong performance.
- 24:59I think she did fine for her base level stuff, but whenever I
- 25:04think the part that really kills me is when they're in the car
- 25:07and she tries to pretend to be his mom.
- 25:09That would be what I would agree is probably the weaker part of
- 25:13her performance for me. I think she did great on like
- 25:16all of the normal pop star stuff.
- 25:18That sounded, Yeah, that felt more real.
- 25:20Yeah. But that also felt like more of
- 25:22her natural thing. And then when the one time where
- 25:25we see that she's actually acting is when I'm like, oh, I'm
- 25:29seeing I'm not a great performance here.
- 25:32And it kind of took me out of it a little bit.
- 25:35But then again, you could also rationalize it that she was
- 25:37acting in the moment too. She was trying to act as the
- 25:39mom. Yeah, exactly so.
- 25:41I don't know, like to me it just kind of screamed like weak to me
- 25:45right there and I don't. Think it was quite weak.
- 25:48I just think it was probably if I had to pick out the weaker
- 25:50part of her performance. That's what I'm saying, that
- 25:54that's the weak part of the performance right there.
- 25:56Not her entirety of her performance was weak.
- 25:59Just that part right there was OK.
- 26:01And I think the thing with his mom was just it didn't really go
- 26:06anywhere. It really was just like you, you
- 26:08see like the visions that he has of her, which I guess is like, I
- 26:12mean, we understand like from the get go, this guy's the
- 26:15butcher and just seeing him act in this psychotic and like
- 26:20manipulative way throughout the movie is enough for me to see
- 26:24how he's damaged as a person. I don't need to have this
- 26:26bullshit mom explanation but visions of her thrown in too.
- 26:31It felt very Friday the 13th. It kind of did, yeah.
- 26:34And really what I thought it was building up to, and maybe they
- 26:37meant for it to be like this, but I feel like the profiler was
- 26:41meant to be similar to his mom. I don't think that's what it was
- 26:48what I was reading actually. Like she was meant to be a more
- 26:51maternal seeming figure to contrast with the psychopathy in
- 26:57Cooper's character. OK.
- 26:59Whereas I don't think his mom was a very warm maternal figure.
- 27:04Doesn't sound like it. Yeah, I thought because we never
- 27:07get great looks at her, that maybe it was the same actor
- 27:11playing the Mon man, the profiler, which I thought that.
- 27:15Would be interesting. That could have been
- 27:16interesting, but still, I think it wouldn't have really.
- 27:19OK, You could just cut it. And really, I like, you're not
- 27:22missing anything from this movie if you do that.
- 27:25OK. So yeah, that's not bad.
- 27:28OK, I'd say my bad is that he's got a lot of like, up and down
- 27:34from his seat at the concert. Yeah, he does.
- 27:38Which, like, I get because it gets Riley's suspicious and it's
- 27:42part of, like, his whole, like, panicking, trying to figure
- 27:45stuff out. I just wish maybe like a couple
- 27:48of those trips had been combined into one, Yeah, make him a
- 27:52little bit more efficient and not make him miss half the
- 27:56concert. You know, see, I don't go to
- 27:58these types of concerts so maybe I'm completely wrong, but do
- 28:01they normally have this many intermissions?
- 28:04I don't know about intermissions and stuff like that.
- 28:07I really don't. I know like the costume changes
- 28:09and stuff are a thing, but I also know that like.
- 28:11They usually have something going on to keep people engaged.
- 28:13Yes, like 'cause this is similar but also different.
- 28:18I went to Gold Over America with my mom and like, they had a lot
- 28:23of uniform changes throughout the show, but like, they had,
- 28:27you know, differences in performers going on throughout.
- 28:31Oh my God. Sorry I'm twisting around cuz I
- 28:33feel like I'm looking at you hit my foot.
- 28:34Did I? I'm sorry.
- 28:35It's OK because you hurt yourself before we came in here
- 28:37to record and I accidentally hit your foot.
- 28:42But yeah, so I don't, I don't know what that normally looks
- 28:45like, how much setup and stops and starts are needed between
- 28:49songs. Like a pop star.
- 28:51Yeah, yeah, cuz I just go to like rock shows.
- 28:54Yeah, yeah, I don't, I don't know what this type of show
- 28:58looks like. Yeah, that's why I'm saying
- 28:59like, I'm not gonna say this is unrealistic, but it felt strange
- 29:03to see all these people be like, well, hey, we're now going on a
- 29:06break. They have to set up the stage
- 29:07for something else like and I didn't really see any dressing
- 29:11differences in the stage. Yeah, it was really more just
- 29:14like her and her dancers like outfits.
- 29:17Yeah, pretty much, yeah. Yeah.
- 29:20Ugly. Well, I think seeing the links
- 29:29that he went to, to 'cause these mass like chaotic moments in the
- 29:36stadium. So like, the girl had to blow.
- 29:38Up that girl's face. That one especially, yeah, he
- 29:42like, I get it. She was in the wrong place,
- 29:44wrong time, and it didn't seem like he targeted her.
- 29:47She just happened to be standing there and it blew up right in
- 29:49front of her face at the frying machine, for anybody wondering.
- 29:53But the one I'm also thinking about is the drunk girl by the
- 29:55stairs that he goes over and knocks her down.
- 29:58Yeah, just so she can fall down the fucking stairs that could
- 30:01kill somebody. I do think that.
- 30:03I know he's a murderer, but. I also though I think she was
- 30:06probably so drunk she had like floppy drunk person.
- 30:10That does help, yeah. It really does actually make a
- 30:13difference. That's why when you hear about
- 30:15drunk driving accidents, a lot of times the driver is not
- 30:20because. There was a guy I went to school
- 30:22with, He was crossing the road and he was high and a car hit
- 30:26him and he ended up being pretty much OK and the doctor told him
- 30:30it's because you're high. He didn't tense up when you got
- 30:33here. He just kind of like ragged off,
- 30:37so you know. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:40I'm not saying get drunk and high the for like health or
- 30:43reasons but who place and time like the frying machine.
- 30:48Whatever Get Me Out of here. What's your ugly?
- 30:51My ugly I guess, would probably be him having this whole double
- 30:56life and the way he's able to just like look at his children
- 31:02and love them so much and just want what's best for them and
- 31:06for his wife. But at the same time, he's out
- 31:08there targeting other people and just ruining their lives.
- 31:12It's also like he blames her. He's like, we could have done
- 31:15like I had a nice life that you fucked it up when he's talking
- 31:18to his wife. Your fault.
- 31:18I'm not going to see our kids grow.
- 31:20No, Cooper, I think that's you. I think probably.
- 31:23Probably the. Part where you murdered like
- 31:25eight or nine people, yeah. No, I think it was way more
- 31:28than. That was it, yeah.
- 31:29Oh, wow. Yeah, He man.
- 31:33And I thought it was really interesting because, like, there
- 31:36was that one scene when he's at the garage, he's like, how the
- 31:38fuck did they get out? Like I And then he like, starts
- 31:41playing in his head, like, oh, there's a big tree next to the
- 31:43window there. They climbed out.
- 31:44I never looked through this lens.
- 31:45Keep the lives separated. Yeah.
- 31:47So you could tell like he actually did do that.
- 31:49He was able to like. Yeah, he compartmentalized the
- 31:51hell out of his two lives. Yeah, it's, it's fucking crazy.
- 31:55And it's so weird that like I like that especially we get this
- 32:00sense of he generally seems to target mostly decent people cuz
- 32:05he said his thing is wanting to get people that seem whole.
- 32:08They think that they feel whole he's like but that's not true
- 32:11cuz nobody could ever be fully whole so.
- 32:13He's like, I would show you Spencer is like an environmental
- 32:17activist, I think. He's like a teacher or something
- 32:19I think, or a student, I can't remember.
- 32:21He's like young 20s. Yeah, but like he does like some
- 32:23good stuff for like the environment.
- 32:25I remember that being mentioned. And like he said, what got him
- 32:28was watching with Lady Raven, was watching her backstage where
- 32:31she's just, like, having water and having, like, nice
- 32:33conversations with her, like people on her team and helping
- 32:36somebody that drops something. Yeah, like, wow, look at this
- 32:39perfectly normal person. Being kind to the people that
- 32:42work for her. I got to fucking kill her.
- 32:46I got to ruin that bit of goodness right there.
- 32:48Yeah, and like, especially she's being so kind to your daughter,
- 32:52who you lied about having leukemia to get back there.
- 32:56Yeah, and that's what the worst thing he did that day.
- 32:58I. Know this guy?
- 33:01I'm starting to think that maybe this Cooper guy's not all that
- 33:03good, Travis. I think he's a real jerk.
- 33:05I think he's a real jerk. OK, absurd, absurd.
- 33:13One thing I have here is just Kid Cudi.
- 33:16His whole character is so fucking funny in this movie.
- 33:20Yeah. So like, he goes out there.
- 33:21I. Really tried to find the exact
- 33:23wording for him yelling at the assistant about the kombuchics.
- 33:26I wanted that to be my opening. Oh yeah, couldn't find where you
- 33:29couldn't find quotes. Oh man, that's a shame because
- 33:32it's really funny. That's the thing I love.
- 33:33Like when he's out on stage, he's actually just performing
- 33:36like Kid Cudi too. But he's like this very over the
- 33:39top like person out there who is very, very shitty to his
- 33:45handlers. Yes.
- 33:46And then he like puts on this like fake persona whenever he
- 33:49talks to Lady Raven and all that stuff where he's like actually
- 33:53being friendly. And then the whole scene where
- 33:54he walks by Cooper and just like hits on him and just like gives
- 33:58him a look and they're like lifts up his like, like shirt
- 34:01gets a little bit. But yeah, it's it was really
- 34:05funny. Also, just the idea that you can
- 34:11take all of the men in a stadium and stop every single one of
- 34:17them on the way out and think that you can actually have
- 34:19control over that situation. Cuz that right there just
- 34:22screams at me. That's gonna be chaos.
- 34:24Yeah. People are going to be slipping
- 34:25in the night. You're not going to be able to
- 34:26have everybody accounted for there.
- 34:28They said that there were like 3000 men at the show there,
- 34:32which is insane. So like, it's a very flawed
- 34:36plan. Like your point for your thing
- 34:40but. Seems inefficient.
- 34:41Yeah, but I love the idea of it so much that just don't care.
- 34:45Yeah. And that's kind of why I think
- 34:47it's fun, because it's like, again.
- 34:51And Night Tramalon has a good sense of humor.
- 34:53That's the thing, man, people like, they complain about this
- 34:56movie because it's just so not realistic and it's.
- 34:59Not meant to. Be y'all, Yeah, I really, I love
- 35:02the idea of it. I don't care if everything like
- 35:06isn't so realistic or anything like that.
- 35:10I just. I just want to have fun.
- 35:12Yeah. No, I think, OK, Yeah, the
- 35:14absurd I think for me is that it kind of seems like this profiler
- 35:18knew he was going get out the whole time.
- 35:21You think so? It almost seems like she knew
- 35:23that was gonna happen and the real setup was back at the
- 35:27house. Well, I think that they made
- 35:28that after the concert was over and they checked all three
- 35:32thousand 2999 and yeah, they didn't have their guy.
- 35:41Yeah, I, I don't know. I just, I didn't think, I think
- 35:45she knew that there was a very high probability that he was
- 35:48going to find a way past them. I.
- 35:50Think it'd be hilarious if she was just making all this shit up
- 35:52the entire time. Like, Oh yeah, he's going to be
- 35:54his mom. He hates his mom.
- 35:56Like, oh wow. Like kind of like the the medium
- 35:59guy from, You know the Devil where he's just like, you know,
- 36:03cleaning on the things and hoping that it sticks.
- 36:05Which like the profiling stuff does has a, does have like a
- 36:08little bit more science behind it.
- 36:10But yeah, it's not like a perfect Yeah, you know, it's not
- 36:14100% foolproof. It was crazy, though.
- 36:17Yeah, there are moments in this movie where she's straight up
- 36:18calling out his move as he's about to do.
- 36:20It yeah, like with the whole going to pull the fire.
- 36:22Off. Yeah, exactly.
- 36:23Yeah, Yeah. OK.
- 36:24All right. So are we there to rate it?
- 36:27Yes, OK. I had a lot of fun with this
- 36:29movie. I think that this is like a this
- 36:31is just a fun time. Like it's got tension, it's got
- 36:35great acting. It's got great sets.
- 36:38I like it a lot. I'm gonna give it a nine.
- 36:41I'm gonna give it a nine and a half.
- 36:43Damn. So we got a 9.25 starting
- 36:45average. Yeah, I'm sorry people out there
- 36:47that don't like this movie, but we we like it.
- 36:50I'm sorry. Sorry, Jen, I'm cute.
- 36:54Sorry, Chad. Sorry, Chad.
- 36:57OK, OK. All right.
- 36:59So you get into it. So we start off, Riley and her
- 37:02dad are in the car and she's singing along to Lady Raven.
- 37:05And this was arguably immediately funny cuz she's
- 37:07singing off and she goes maybe I'll be a singer.
- 37:09And Cooper goes, maybe, Maybe, yeah.
- 37:13He's like, so supportive of his daughter the entire movie, but
- 37:15that's like the one moment where he's like, Oh no.
- 37:21Yeah, he is refusing to run red lights.
- 37:25He's like, we're not going to start breaking the law now,
- 37:27Riley. Yeah.
- 37:30And she's very, very excited and she's in a hurry.
- 37:33She wants to go see Lady Raven, get off the tour bus.
- 37:36I guess this is a thing people do.
- 37:38You people who are super obsessed with these people and
- 37:41these like musical artists or icons or whatever you want, like
- 37:44any celebrity of any type, people would do it.
- 37:46They'll just stake out their fucking butts.
- 37:50Scary. I like the moment though where
- 37:52the one of the bus stores open and it's like a random guy that
- 37:55comes out and like they were cheering like cuz that's so
- 37:58real, you know, like that. Somebody actually boos him.
- 38:01Yeah, cuz that's an actual thing that would happen too.
- 38:04So apparently this was an afternoon concert that was added
- 38:07after the tour sold out. This was a reward for her for
- 38:11getting good grades. She got 4A's and AB and he got
- 38:14her seats on the floor row 44. Very, very good seats.
- 38:19Very good. So yeah, he's also, while
- 38:22they're in the line, he's asking about her friends.
- 38:25Just trying to get info on what exactly went down because we get
- 38:28the the idea that her and her friends had a bit of a falling
- 38:31out. Yeah, but.
- 38:32She doesn't really want to talk about.
- 38:33It yeah and said she joined some dancing girls so we can see that
- 38:36she's not like a social or withdrawn or anything.
- 38:40Yeah, yeah, It's just. Like typical middle school girl
- 38:43stuff really is what it seems like, which she does confirm
- 38:46here in a minute because she was like, you know, it's not that
- 38:48they're being mean. They just don't include me and
- 38:50stuff and they make sure to post all about it on social media.
- 38:54Yep, that tracks. That's the type of stuff that's
- 38:55like intentionally malicious, like.
- 38:58Well, I had to explain to you about Girl Mean the other night
- 39:01when we went out for Halloween and you're like, that was really
- 39:04nice that those girls came over and complimented you.
- 39:06And I was like, no, it would have been nice if it'd have been
- 39:08one of them, but two of them coming over gushing about how
- 39:11good my makeup was. They were being very mean and
- 39:13backhanded. I don't think that they were.
- 39:15They were Travis. The other girl came over there
- 39:18later. This is neither here nor there.
- 39:22This is. But this is the levels right
- 39:24here that Riley is dealing. With yes, you never forget
- 39:27middle school bullying. I like this moment where he's
- 39:32trying to relay with lingo he's. Like what's crispy mean?
- 39:37And she's like, oh, it's means something's really good.
- 39:39He's like, use it in a sudden. She goes, man, your house is
- 39:42crispy. And he goes, so if I went over
- 39:44to somebody's house and I was like, yo, your pad is extra
- 39:47fried. And she goes, I'm not going to
- 39:48teach you anything else ever again.
- 39:50What fried so like so much crispy.
- 39:53That's the epitome of crisp. Also, while this is going on,
- 39:56there's an opener on the stage and there's almost nobody in the
- 39:59stand. That's so real.
- 40:00Oh my God, it made. Me think of when we went to see
- 40:02Jack White and Chicano Batman. Open.
- 40:04I think of that all the time whenever I think of this thing
- 40:07too, because I see people talk about Chicano Batman, they're
- 40:10like, oh, Chicano Batman. I'm like really?
- 40:12Those guys, they had like, no, not the one thing that I went
- 40:16to. And they were.
- 40:17Decent. They were OK.
- 40:19Yeah, they were OK. But this opener is called the
- 40:22Papa's Boots. Papa's boots.
- 40:25Good, good names right there. Yeah.
- 40:27All right, so the show starts, they get a few songs in, and
- 40:30then that's when Cooper's like, OK, I got to go to the bathroom.
- 40:33Real. Quick, he's like, do you want to
- 40:34come and stand outside the men's room or do you promise to stay
- 40:37right here in your seat? Also very good parenting.
- 40:39Like that's definitely the type of like normal thing you would
- 40:44see from an intentive parent like that because that's a huge
- 40:47concert venue to just leave her alone in the crowd.
- 40:50I could see him being like well she's 12 but also there are
- 40:5430,000 people here and at least one of us is a serial killer.
- 40:58Statistically, probably more. So in the men's room, I clocked
- 41:02that every other urinal is occupied.
- 41:05There's the guys are leaving space, which is nice because
- 41:08nobody wants to piss right next to another person.
- 41:10Although in my experience, going to pack concerts, that's not at
- 41:14all the case. You kind of have to take what
- 41:16you can get. But he goes into the stall,
- 41:19pulls up his phone, there's a camera and we see that he's just
- 41:23checking in on his little victim that he's got in one of his
- 41:26basements. I wonder if this is how Tati
- 41:29feels when we pull up the the pet camera at home and tell her
- 41:33to stop chewing on her paws. It could be, yeah, She's like,
- 41:37help me Get Me Out. And then I tell us like, this is
- 41:41the color of the door. I don't know color so because
- 41:43I'm a dog but. It's great you have a Gray door.
- 41:47Everything is great. Come over here right now.
- 41:55Yeah, that's so stupid. Is she upset because everything
- 42:04is grey or like everything is grey?
- 42:06Come to the grey place. This is where great place.
- 42:10She's like. Here's the story about a little
- 42:18guy who lived in a great world. And everything is great.
- 42:26Yeah, poor puppy. But yeah, so he's got somebody
- 42:30that he's got locked up and he's making sure they're still locked
- 42:34up. So he goes to the sink to wash
- 42:36his hands, and then to his left, he sees this old woman just
- 42:39standing at the sink, and he kind of ignores her.
- 42:43And then another person gets in between them to wash her hands,
- 42:45and then they leave. And then she's messed, like,
- 42:47magically gone. Yeah.
- 42:48So yeah. Yeah, so on the way back, he
- 42:53sees Jodie's mom, who references like a parent teacher meeting
- 42:58that they'd had. She's like, I haven't seen you
- 43:00since then. And you know, I, I'm really
- 43:03working with Jodie on getting Riley included on stuff.
- 43:07And he's like, you know, it's just really hard to see your
- 43:09child hurting like that. You can tell he probably didn't
- 43:11ever really much like Jodie's mom in the 1st place.
- 43:14But yeah, especially now is kind of over it.
- 43:16This is very much how you handle those conversations.
- 43:19Like I don't want to be having a conversation with you right now.
- 43:21I'm going to give a very stern and politish enough answer and I
- 43:26I'm trying to get my way out of here.
- 43:27Yeah, at one point he even says like, this is about them today.
- 43:31I just want to focus on this concert for them.
- 43:33I don't really want to have this conversation right now.
- 43:36Yeah, it's just so interesting seeing him be like a this shit
- 43:39person and then like the contrast of like, hey, here's
- 43:42this guy I have in my base at to like immediately, hey, this is
- 43:45me being a great dad. Like it's, it's, it's
- 43:48interesting, Yeah. So he gets back to the show and
- 43:52Lady Raven talks this story about releasing the anger she
- 43:56felt towards her father for abandoning her and.
- 44:00And it's like what the fuck I'm. Right here, Salika.
- 44:04Yeah, literally. And she encourages everybody
- 44:09else. You know, if there's somebody in
- 44:11their life that they're angry at, if they feel ready and
- 44:14they're ready to release that anger, say I release you and
- 44:17then turn on the lights on your phone.
- 44:19And how pivotal a moment for Riley where she's in the middle
- 44:22of dealing with mean girl middle school bullies.
- 44:26Yeah, so while the song is playing, Cooper's just kind of
- 44:30checking around the arena because he noticed when he was
- 44:33out there going to the bathroom before that the cop presence has
- 44:36gotten a little bit larger outside.
- 44:38I just stacked up on the quite. A bit.
- 44:39Around the perimeter there. So now he's eyeing around and
- 44:43he's seeing. Security talking to random men
- 44:46in clothes very similar to his. Yeah, he sees a guy actually
- 44:50getting escorted out of the arena over there.
- 44:54So they go to a merch table between songs.
- 44:57They're out of smalls in the shirt she wants.
- 45:00Well, they have one small left and the other girl's like I was
- 45:03here first, which I mean, she was here first, that's what's
- 45:07fair. She is, but she was mean about
- 45:09the way she said. I was totally here way before
- 45:11her. Like, calm down, we can talk
- 45:13about it. She.
- 45:14Wasn't rude but also she had a point.
- 45:18You're not wrong, while you're just an asshole.
- 45:20Was she though? I mean, was she there first?
- 45:23We don't know. People claim shit like that all
- 45:25the time. Well, we did see Riley and her
- 45:27dad just kind of push their way up to the table.
- 45:29So, but Riley is our Cooper's like, you know, hey, it's OK.
- 45:33Wait, she wants the shirt. She can have the shirt.
- 45:35We'll come back later and you know, we'll see if we can find
- 45:38you something else you want. And Jamie at the merch table is
- 45:41like, you guys seem like a really nice family.
- 45:43Let me tell you what, in about 10 or 15 minutes, I gotta go get
- 45:46more shirts to restock. Anyway, I'll set a small aside.
- 45:48Yeah. And then he, like, sits aside
- 45:51for a second. He's like, hey, come over here
- 45:53for a second to Jamie. And Jamie, like, comes over and
- 45:55he's like, hey, so like, what's the deal with all the cops?
- 45:56Well, he learns his name first. He builds that personal
- 45:59connection and he uses the name Jamie a lot.
- 46:02If you'll notice, every time they talk, he makes sure to say
- 46:04his name. I hate him.
- 46:05Some people do that to me, like, hey, what's your name?
- 46:08Travis. Hey.
- 46:08Yeah, Travis. Nice to meet you, Travis.
- 46:10So, Travis, what about this? You know, like.
- 46:12Travis, I really think we need to start focusing on the movie
- 46:14again. OK, All right.
- 46:16Are you ready, Travis? Yes, let's do this, OK.
- 46:22All right, Travis. So what does he talk to Jamie
- 46:25about? He talks to him about why there
- 46:30is such a police presence there. He says I'm really not supposed
- 46:33to talk about it though, so don't tell anybody.
- 46:36But apparently it's a setup, because apparently the butcher
- 46:39is going to be here. Yep.
- 46:41So the whole concert, they set it up as a trap.
- 46:44So it's not that like they put on this concert thinking the
- 46:47butcher would show up, it's that they found a piece of a receipt
- 46:51for tickets to this show specifically.
- 46:54So this concert was already going to be happening.
- 46:56When they found out he would be here, that's when they decided
- 46:58that we're going to set up all of the other trap stuff.
- 47:01Yeah, so now he's just kind of trying to scope the area a
- 47:04little bit more by pretending to look for funnel cake.
- 47:08Yeah, Which hell yeah. No, man.
- 47:10Funnel cake, Yeah. I was like, you know, if you
- 47:12said this to me in an arena, I'd be like, I wouldn't question it,
- 47:16yeah. I'd be like, funnel cake is the
- 47:18fucking bond. It's crispy.
- 47:20Yeah, it's extra fried. Oh.
- 47:22My God, Travis, let's focus. Travis, stop it.
- 47:29So yeah, what he's actually doing is he's trying to scope
- 47:31different exits, and he's trying to see if they can find, like,
- 47:35you know, a window to sneak out. And he also decides he's going
- 47:39to create a aversion. But at one point, he sees a
- 47:41woman setting her very drunk friend near the stairs before
- 47:46leaving to grab something. Girl, come on.
- 47:50Not, not good placement. Yeah, just like maybe she was
- 47:53like, hopefully somebody will trip her or she'll fall.
- 47:55Down. Yeah, like I can't deal with
- 47:57her. This woman was going to trip
- 47:58down the stairs regardless. Of these scenes.
- 48:00Like people, too many people working against her I think.
- 48:04A slight gust of wind would have knocked her down the stairs.
- 48:08She was. She's like a clown guy here.
- 48:10Yeah. In the wind, yeah.
- 48:12So he does the deed, He knocks her down the stairs, people come
- 48:16running to check on her, and he is like, hey, Riley, let's just
- 48:20go outside for a minute and then we'll come back inside.
- 48:24But it wasn't enough of a distraction.
- 48:25There's still plenty of SWAT outside.
- 48:27Yeah, before all that too. He also clocked the security
- 48:31door and he saw that they need badges to get back in there, so
- 48:34he knows he needs to get that if he needs to proceed anymore.
- 48:37Yeah, and the song, the music has started.
- 48:40She's playing a song called Liar.
- 48:42This is when I started writing them down.
- 48:44Oh, interesting. So they go back to their seats
- 48:47and then this is when she introduces Parker Wayne because
- 48:51they wrote a song together and he joins from a trap door on the
- 48:54floor. And when it opens up, it's like
- 48:57right near their seats so they can see under the ground.
- 49:00And this song that they're playing is called hiding.
- 49:04And then this is when he's like desperately trying to get Riley
- 49:07to like, hey, let's just sneak down there.
- 49:09And she's like, what the fuck? She's.
- 49:11Like we can't do that. That's also weird.
- 49:14You're being weird today. This is kind of weird, yeah, but
- 49:18you know, I like the right person.
- 49:20Would be curious enough to check it out.
- 49:23Yeah, but also like, she really wants to see the show.
- 49:25Yeah, then that's a terrible thing to do.
- 49:27Hey, here's this thing that we paid a lot of money to go do.
- 49:29How about we go explore the venue and stuff?
- 49:31Like, no, come on. So Cooper says that he's going
- 49:35to go back and check on the T-shirt for when he gets back.
- 49:37Jamie hasn't had a chance to go get the shirts yet and he's like
- 49:40oh I'll go with you. So they get down there and, you
- 49:43know, they're just chit chatting.
- 49:44And he says he works for the fire department.
- 49:47And as they're talking, he helps him grab some boxes from the top
- 49:50shelf and sneaks out Jamie's key card.
- 49:52And he asks, you know, have they caught the butcher yet?
- 49:56And Jamie's, like, no. But let me tell you, I've been
- 49:59following this case. This guy's real messed up.
- 50:01He's killed like 22 people. Like one of my friends was
- 50:04driving by a crime scene and he saw his body all chopped up.
- 50:08And he shows him like the body, yeah, which is crazy.
- 50:12And then he said that they had all this special training for
- 50:15this stuff going on. And I love this because this is
- 50:17so realistic because like probably minimum wage worker
- 50:22getting a chance to feel this kind of special and being asked
- 50:25about something that also happens to be a niche interest
- 50:27of theirs. Like, and he's talking to
- 50:30somebody who's a firefighter, you know, like, and he even
- 50:34says, like, you're on our side. Yeah, he's like, yeah, you're
- 50:38enforcement of some form here, so sure you shouldn't be.
- 50:42Little does he know. Yeah.
- 50:45So he tells them like they have like a secret code in case the
- 50:47cops stop them, which is Hamilton.
- 50:50And then he gives them a shirt for free.
- 50:52Yeah, and it seems like almost like we've got this like, Fakey
- 50:55set up where it seems like he's gonna stab him with a box
- 50:58cutter, but he just ends up handing it back to Jamie.
- 51:00Yeah, yeah. So now he takes the security
- 51:04badge that he snuck from him and he goes into the security room.
- 51:07He goes, yeah, it's like an employee area and they're having
- 51:10like a meeting with some of the SWAT.
- 51:13And, you know, they're just kind of talking about if you run into
- 51:16our unsub, you need to get them alone.
- 51:19So that way any potential risk to other bystanders is limited.
- 51:25And then we see get to see him lying really well to like other
- 51:28people. Like he's saying that, oh, I
- 51:29just came here for coffee and they're like, oh, do you have
- 51:31any sugar? Because Barrett was supposed to
- 51:33refill that. Here, take some of my stash.
- 51:35And he go, he opens up the cabinet as if he knows it's
- 51:38exactly there. He got lucky with that.
- 51:39Guess I was thinking that was all I could think of during
- 51:42this. And it's like, motherfucker,
- 51:43like, if that sugar wasn't there, what were you going to
- 51:45do? Like.
- 51:46Bitch, somebody took my sugar. Yeah.
- 51:48That's an. Easy one, Yeah, but there's also
- 51:52Donuts down there, so he. This is why I can't be a killer.
- 51:56Like the smallest bit of pressure.
- 51:58I'm in there with the cops, like, oh man, where's the sugar?
- 52:00I don't know. I don't work.
- 52:02Here, open up the door. It's not here.
- 52:04OK? I'm the butcher.
- 52:05I'm sorry. You got me.
- 52:07You got me. So yeah, he.
- 52:13He ends up just like navigating his way out.
- 52:15He also gives him some Donuts and then he sneaks one of the
- 52:18walkies from one of the the things there and he works his
- 52:22way out of the room. And then Jodie's mom fucking
- 52:25stops Cooper again. And she's like, you know, I
- 52:27really just think that the girls need to work this out
- 52:29themselves. And he she gets vaguely
- 52:32threatening to the point where like security officers, officers
- 52:35standing around are like. I mean, it's very directly
- 52:39threatening. She grabs his arm as he's trying
- 52:41to walk away. She's like, you do not, not want
- 52:42to mess with me. And then they, oh, they see a
- 52:47man getting like running away from other security and getting
- 52:50stopped and it just kind of breaks up their little fight.
- 52:53We also play cases like, listen, how about we do a pizza day this
- 52:56weekend? Whatever.
- 52:56I don't fucking care. Like, I just need to get out of
- 52:58this conversation right now. And then, yeah, like one of the
- 53:01guys, some random guys getting tackled by cops.
- 53:04So he gets back to the concert floor.
- 53:06She's playing a song called Empathize.
- 53:08As he is listening to the radio, they learn that the person that
- 53:12was just captured ran because he's got a history of being
- 53:15ease. It's not actually the butcher.
- 53:17And she says that the unsub won't panic.
- 53:20And then somebody reminds them of visuals of men that have been
- 53:23seen at various crime scenes. One such potential unsub has an
- 53:27animal tattoo on his arm, and we see Cooper look down at his
- 53:32little animal tattoo on his wrist and then sneak a slap
- 53:35bracelet from somebody else's VIP bag.
- 53:38This right here, this point in the movie is where like I feel
- 53:40like it's really clicking because like seeing that right
- 53:42there, I like seeing him monitoring the situation and
- 53:45just like I love this game of cat and mouse.
- 53:48Yeah, it's. Like playing out here because
- 53:50like, any time that they're saying something like that, he's
- 53:52like, OK, this is how I'm gonna address that.
- 53:54Yeah, it's really cool and watch.
- 53:56Yeah. Then he tells Riley that he
- 53:57forgot his credit card at the T-shirt stand.
- 54:00And she's like, you've barely been here.
- 54:02I really wanted to watch this with you.
- 54:04Like, she seems like she wanted to share this experience with
- 54:07her dad. It's kind of sad.
- 54:10He gives a meeting point for them to meet at if they are
- 54:13separated, and then as he's walking, he listens to Doctor
- 54:18Grant explained about Contingency 4.
- 54:21Once he realizes that he's stuck, he will do something to
- 54:23cause mass panic, such as setting off a fire alarm or
- 54:26calling in a bomb threat. And acting at a fire alarm where
- 54:29he's about to pull it. So if that were to happen, only
- 54:35women and children would be allowed to go through and the
- 54:37men would need to be stopped. Which I think they do that
- 54:40anyways in this current setup. So yeah, no change of plan
- 54:44there. So he arrives at one of the food
- 54:47stands there and he sinks over and to one of the deep frying
- 54:51things he like, turns it up a little bit more.
- 54:54Than several canisters of oil, yes, yeah, I wrote.
- 54:59That's oil bomb. Is.
- 55:01That is basically what it is, because then a teenager working
- 55:04in the stand comes over, sees that and it explodes on her.
- 55:08God, that's got to be. That's life altering right
- 55:11there. Yeah.
- 55:12She's going to have to get like skin grafts or something.
- 55:15If she survives. If she survives.
- 55:17Yeah, like that's. Oh my God.
- 55:19And The thing is, he is a firefighter.
- 55:22He knows what kind of damage he's doing to this person.
- 55:25Yeah. But then again, like I said, I
- 55:27don't think he was targeting anybody.
- 55:28I think he was just trying to set off like.
- 55:30But he had to have known that there was the potential.
- 55:32Casualty for sure. Yeah, yeah, it's unfortunate
- 55:37casualty right there, but. In the confusion.
- 55:40Yeah, he, he takes one of the aprons there and sneaks it on
- 55:42and then he like takes the pass and goes up to the employee
- 55:46area, which is. Up on the roof, yeah.
- 55:48And there are, of course, more SWAT members up there.
- 55:52They ask for the secret code, which is like Hamilton.
- 55:55They're like, what about the card that you got in the
- 55:58training? And it just so happens this
- 56:00apron had a wallet in it and he pulls out just like the generic
- 56:04arena card, which was what they were.
- 56:07He just. Passes it.
- 56:09Yeah. He just finds a card, you know,
- 56:11I don't know. It works out.
- 56:13He's a convincing liar. Yeah.
- 56:15What I'm curious about is what was his plan once he got up to
- 56:18the roof there? Are you going to scale down the
- 56:20building bro? Yeah, I think he was going to
- 56:22try and see like if there was a way out from up here, but what
- 56:24was he going to do about Riley because their meeting point was
- 56:27going to be inside the arena so. He would probably say something
- 56:32like, oh, I saw something outside and like I like went to
- 56:35go help and then I couldn't get back in because I lost, left my
- 56:38ticket in there. Whoopsie.
- 56:39You know what I mean? Like he would have come up with
- 56:41something. So he goes back inside, sees the
- 56:45woman again, but eventually he meets Riley at their, like,
- 56:48little meeting point in between songs.
- 56:50And she's worried about him. And she's like, I just really
- 56:52want to see the concert. So, you know, he agrees to go,
- 56:55and then they're going to watch the concert together.
- 56:58As they are sitting down, she's explaining the Dreamer Girl
- 57:01thing to him. A song called Love You was
- 57:03playing. Yeah.
- 57:05Apparently she has a song called Dreamer Girl and every concert
- 57:08she picks somebody out of the crowd to come perform on stage
- 57:11with her. And you get to go backstage,
- 57:13which is why it really gets his attention because he's like, oh,
- 57:16that's our way out. So he looks around, finds
- 57:19somebody in like with staff gear on that has.
- 57:24Like a headset, it was somebody that looks like they are doing
- 57:27something for the show. And he starts complimenting Lady
- 57:30Raven, and he's like, oh, well, I'm actually her uncle.
- 57:32And he goes, oh, well, you know, that's my daughter.
- 57:35She's, you know, the one going even crazier than the rest.
- 57:38This is M night by the. Way yes it is M Night it's
- 57:41obligatory cameo and he explains you know this is just a little
- 57:47treat for her she just went through chemo or.
- 57:49Gentle leukemia. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:51And he kinda goes, hey, what are your seat numbers?
- 57:55Yeah, yeah, he knew what he was doing there.
- 57:57Yeah. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 57:59So then it gets to the part of the performance and they choose
- 58:04Raleigh to be the Dreamer girl. And when they get up to the
- 58:07stage, the cops are like, Oh, well, I need to question this
- 58:09guy 1st. And, you know, he kind of like,
- 58:12leans forward and whispers something.
- 58:13And you know, what he's saying is like, hey, the little girl
- 58:15had leukemia. They're like, just let them
- 58:17through. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:19And then he's over there playing it up as the dad.
- 58:20He's just like hugging A. Rally, yeah.
- 58:22And. Then be so excited for her,
- 58:23which she probably. Is Yeah, I think he actually
- 58:25legitimately is. Well.
- 58:26He's just the thing that he's like having to like, manage
- 58:28like, here's my one life that's like, awesome.
- 58:31Here's my other life, which is like completely collapsing right
- 58:34now. Yeah, it's yeah.
- 58:36But he's a, you know, his emotions are fucked.
- 58:39So yeah, I think he's handling this better than most people.
- 58:42So backstage the tour manager is explaining to Riley like what's
- 58:46going to happen and then Lady Raven calls her out and I love
- 58:49this part because we see Jodi in the stands freak out and her and
- 58:52her mom start screaming at each other and her mom goes.
- 58:56You little beast. Yeah.
- 58:58And then she, like, immediately goes to dance into the song,
- 59:00like right after. It's so fucking weird.
- 59:04Yeah, I like it. It's really funny.
- 59:06I love this and it also seems like Riley is better off without
- 59:09these Reds. Yeah, for sure.
- 59:10Yeah. This is the best type of revenge
- 59:13too, because she knows that they're there now.
- 59:14Yeah, so also while that's happening, Cooper has noticed
- 59:19that they've been taking some girls back behind that.
- 59:21It'll look like they're either too drunk or sick or.
- 59:23Whatever. They're younger girls and I
- 59:25think they're all dehydrated, which is a thing that happens at
- 59:28these types of shows. Oh, really?
- 59:29Yeah. They'll get dehydrated or like,
- 59:32have a blood sugar drop because they haven't eaten anything.
- 59:35And so they just have to go back.
- 59:36And that's why like he, he has like the ice pack and a juice
- 59:39and it's like you'll be OK in about 30 minutes.
- 59:41OK. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 59:42So yeah, they do the whole dreamer girl thing they're
- 59:45performing. He's just kind of clock in the
- 59:47area trying to figure out what's going on.
- 59:50He. Helps one of the girls that
- 59:51collapses. Yeah, once the performance is
- 59:53over, like a girl was about to fall and then he catches her,
- 59:56carries her into the medical tent and then gets her taken
- 59:59care of. The other medical workers are
- 1:00:01like, Oh my God, he's been amazing just helping out with
- 1:00:03all this. The manager's like, well, she
- 1:00:05wants to make sure she says goodbye, so come stand back at
- 1:00:07stage for the encore. And then you'll get to, you
- 1:00:11know, see her at her dressing room before she leaves and we'll
- 1:00:13give you some swag and. So like, they're in the back,
- 1:00:19they can see behind the stage where she's actually takes a
- 1:00:21puff of her inhaler. Respect.
- 1:00:22Yeah. And then Kid Cudi's character
- 1:00:25comes out from behind because he's being brought up for the
- 1:00:28encore song and he's complaining about Lactaid milk.
- 1:00:32Yeah. So you're not going to be happy
- 1:00:34until I do to myself, aren't you?
- 1:00:36Yeah, it's like, so was he like, is lactate milk like lactose
- 1:00:41free? Yes.
- 1:00:41OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:44Well, either way, I love this whole thing of Kid Cudi being
- 1:00:46this diva. Yes, the entire time.
- 1:00:47He's so fucking mean to these people.
- 1:00:49And then he goes over and sees Lady Raven and he's so nice.
- 1:00:52And the song they play is called Divine.
- 1:00:54Divine. OK.
- 1:00:56And it's just straight up Kid Cudi up there at that point.
- 1:00:58Like the way he's even performing and singing is just
- 1:01:00sounds exactly the same. So after the show, we see Wayne
- 1:01:06Parker like, waves at Riley and she like, does her typical
- 1:01:09little middle school girl, like swoon.
- 1:01:12And then, you know, as we've discussed The Thinker, that's
- 1:01:17Kid Cudi's character yelling at his assistant, being very nice
- 1:01:19to Lady Raven, fist bumping Riley, and then flirting with
- 1:01:24Cooper. It's so funny.
- 1:01:27Okay so they're sitting back there and he overhears.
- 1:01:31Well okay, so the woman that's been assisting the entire time
- 1:01:34walks over to them is like okay, just wait right here for a
- 1:01:37little bit. Lady Raven will come back, and
- 1:01:39then she'll have her a little meet and greet, and then we'll
- 1:01:40do this whole thing. And then you'll go through this
- 1:01:42checkpoint over there through these cops, and they'll have a
- 1:01:44few questions for you. And then after that, it'll be
- 1:01:47gravy. Yeah.
- 1:01:48But like, you know, he was hoping that there would be no
- 1:01:50cops in the backstage exit. And she's like very like saying
- 1:01:54the type of thing that you would to somebody some way they don't
- 1:01:57freak out in this kind of situation where like it's just a
- 1:01:59little bit more security than normal.
- 1:02:01We all have to do it. Only like Lady Raven and her
- 1:02:04close group get to go through without it implying that even
- 1:02:07like the tour manager doesn't get out of this.
- 1:02:10So, you know, he's obviously calculating from that.
- 1:02:15And he also overhears Lady Raven talking to the profiler.
- 1:02:19She has apparently been aware the whole time of what's going
- 1:02:22on, and she now knows that he hasn't been caught.
- 1:02:25So Lady Raven, she comes out, she's saying goodbye.
- 1:02:28She compliments Riley's ring. And Riley's like, oh, thanks.
- 1:02:30It was an antique. My dad found it for me.
- 1:02:33Of this like recurring thing about just like this random bit
- 1:02:36of jewelry that like, oh, he just gets the best deals and you
- 1:02:39know where he gets these from. That is so disturbing.
- 1:02:43It is dark, so dark. It's one thing, like, I know
- 1:02:48it's very common for serial killers to keep trophies from
- 1:02:51their victims, but to then give that to your family.
- 1:02:54You also have to think that for it to be something that fits
- 1:02:57her, it had to be like a small enough hand to fit a child.
- 1:03:00So did he kill kids too? Well, it was on her pointer
- 1:03:03finger, so. Does the pointer finger mature
- 1:03:08further than the rest of the fingers?
- 1:03:10That's. Probably a little bit bigger,
- 1:03:12that's what I'm saying, OK. That's the that's the one.
- 1:03:15That's when you know you hit puberty.
- 1:03:17When you're pointing your finger, it gets big.
- 1:03:18I'm gonna slap you with my clipboard.
- 1:03:20Don't do it, OK? You did it.
- 1:03:24All right? So he's like, OK, fuck it.
- 1:03:27Like, hey, Lady Raven comes over and he's like, all right, hey, I
- 1:03:30think you know about my daughter's condition.
- 1:03:33Do you mind if I talk to you privately for a few seconds?
- 1:03:35And this is when he basically carjacked her because he's like,
- 1:03:38hey, so you're looking for me, all of you, everybody here.
- 1:03:43I like how he he starts, obviously.
- 1:03:44So here's the thing about carbon monoxide.
- 1:03:47You know, it can be really, really deadly.
- 1:03:49It's like important to know this as a firefighter.
- 1:03:50And she's like, what does this have to do with leukemia?
- 1:03:54And then he shows her the video of Spencer, tells her a little
- 1:03:58bit about him. And he's like, I can release the
- 1:03:59carbon monoxide from here. So if you try and signal to
- 1:04:03anybody, if anything happens, Spencer will be dead before
- 1:04:06anybody can find him. So, you know, catch me, save
- 1:04:09him, catch me save him. What you're going to do is
- 1:04:12you're going to take us out there.
- 1:04:13You're going to declare in front of everybody that you're giving
- 1:04:15us a ride in your limo so we can get right past through security.
- 1:04:20So that's what he does, and that's what they do.
- 1:04:23And then in the limo, Lady Raven doing a little scheming of her
- 1:04:27own, She's like, hey, Riley, can I come see your house?
- 1:04:30And then this is where this movie kind of turns into A
- 1:04:33Christmas with you. It.
- 1:04:35Does it's? So hard for those of you who
- 1:04:37have watched that Netflix movie, you know.
- 1:04:39What was happening? Yeah.
- 1:04:41So yeah, they get the address. And I like how he, like, pulls
- 1:04:45up the phone there and he just, like, gives her like, a really
- 1:04:46stern face, like, you know, like, I'll fucking do it.
- 1:04:50I love Riley calling her mom and saying like, yeah, she wants to
- 1:04:53come see her house. No, mom, she doesn't care about
- 1:04:55the carpet. Yeah, I get that is 100% my mom.
- 1:04:58Be like, no, you cannot bring the celebrity to our house.
- 1:05:00I'm not prepared to have a celebrity in our house.
- 1:05:02That's true. But then when they get home
- 1:05:04later, she's like, do you want to see my room?
- 1:05:06OK, come. Like she gets her little
- 1:05:07brother's like OK, let's go clean it up real quick.
- 1:05:09So like, which one is it, Riley? I think probably the level of
- 1:05:14mess her mom is concerned about versus the level of mess in
- 1:05:17Riley's room were very different.
- 1:05:19Surely. So they get the address, they go
- 1:05:22there, and when they arrive at the house, the limousine driver
- 1:05:26is forced to stay there because, you know, he makes it clear that
- 1:05:30nobody else can come inside the house except for a Lady Raven.
- 1:05:33And he's like, you know, if, if the cop, he's like, I don't know
- 1:05:36what you think you're doing, but if the cops show up or anything
- 1:05:38like that happens, Spencer will be in 5 minutes.
- 1:05:41You don't know where he is. And so they're all sitting
- 1:05:45around eating pie. Pie is apparently also part of
- 1:05:48the celebration for Riley's good grades it.
- 1:05:50Seems that way, yeah. I mean it's.
- 1:05:51The Martha Stewart recipe. Yeah, so they're just sitting
- 1:05:56around just having a little chit chat.
- 1:05:58And this is where she's like talking or Lady Raven
- 1:06:02compliments the wife's Rachel, Rachel's necklace.
- 1:06:06He's like, yeah, Cooper got this for me.
- 1:06:08Just like he goes out at night sometimes he just comes back
- 1:06:11with the best deals. I don't know how he finds them.
- 1:06:15And then she teaches drama for the 5th grade and she's asking
- 1:06:21like what it's like to do a concert.
- 1:06:23And Lady Raven's like, oh, well, it was kind of strange today
- 1:06:25because there was a killer in attendance.
- 1:06:27His name's the Butcher. We had a profiler and we know
- 1:06:30that he's got a bunch of fake houses and he's what's called an
- 1:06:34organized defender, probably has OCD.
- 1:06:36He's got a dark colored car. And it's just like listing all
- 1:06:39of these things, like bad relationship with his mom, you
- 1:06:41know, a lot of things that Rachel already knows about.
- 1:06:44Her, it was so, yeah. And then when Cooper's like, you
- 1:06:47know What Car he drives, they're like, well, they don't really
- 1:06:49know exactly, but they kind of just assume because he seems
- 1:06:52like the type of dude they have OCD, so.
- 1:06:54And then she sees a piano and she's like, hey, do you need to
- 1:06:57play a song? And she has Riley sitting next
- 1:06:59to her. And when Riley sitting there,
- 1:07:00she like, sneaks her phone into her pocket and they play a song.
- 1:07:03And then she's like, hey, let's get a selfie real quick.
- 1:07:05And Riley's like, oh, no, I can't find my phone.
- 1:07:07And she goes, let's use your dad's, steals it real quick,
- 1:07:09takes the picture and then runs off to the bathroom.
- 1:07:12I think Cooper is justified in being upset with her in this
- 1:07:16moment. I don't give a fuck if you're a
- 1:07:17celebrity. You can't just fucking steal my
- 1:07:18phone and go to the bathroom with it.
- 1:07:20I'm not even a serial killer. That shit would have me livid.
- 1:07:24I think this is where it really breaks down that world between
- 1:07:29his two lives because he is reacting in a way that Rachel is
- 1:07:32like, dude, I get it, but you need to calm.
- 1:07:35Down everybody's leave her alone when he's following her to the
- 1:07:39bathroom like hey, can I have my phone back please give me my
- 1:07:42phone. I think that that's fair and
- 1:07:44everybody like super chill out like no, give him his phone back
- 1:07:48like that's not cool in this movie.
- 1:07:50I get it though, like whatever she's doing, what she needs to
- 1:07:53do. She walks herself in the
- 1:07:54bathroom. She talks to Spencer, gets some
- 1:07:57clues about where he's at. He was like, well, I had a bag
- 1:08:00over my head. But I did see that there was
- 1:08:01like, a statue of a lion, and it was partially broken.
- 1:08:05And then there was a blue door. And so she goes on Instagram
- 1:08:08Live, asks if anybody lives in Philadelphia, is near a statue
- 1:08:13of a broken lion, and if there's a house near there with the blue
- 1:08:17door. You want to know how I know this
- 1:08:18is bullshit? Somebody with the fame that she
- 1:08:22has, the incoming messages would be going too fast to read.
- 1:08:26Yes, absolutely. Right here.
- 1:08:27They're slowly scrolling. Yeah, here.
- 1:08:29I live near that house. Yeah.
- 1:08:31Do you feel like I used to have a blue door?
- 1:08:33It's like the fucking Star Wars opening credits.
- 1:08:35He was like, yeah, like in reality you wouldn't be able to
- 1:08:40see anything. As somebody who hates trying to
- 1:08:42read comments on live videos though, I like that it was nice
- 1:08:44and slow. Well, yeah, it makes sense to.
- 1:08:46Yeah. Like, you know, for the movie's
- 1:08:48sake, Yeah. You know, whatever.
- 1:08:50So yeah, somebody is like, I know exactly which house your
- 1:08:53time match. She's like, cool, get some
- 1:08:55parents, get some adults, call the cops.
- 1:08:59There's a man named Spencer trapped in that basement.
- 1:09:01Yeah, also, if you know of a place that's all Gray, there's a
- 1:09:04dog that needs help too. Yeah, she needs all the belly
- 1:09:06scratches. Yes, like so many belly
- 1:09:08scratches. So like, while all that's
- 1:09:12happening, you can just hear this chaos going on outside.
- 1:09:14There's like a huge commotion between Cooper and the family.
- 1:09:18You hear shit getting knocked around?
- 1:09:20And then Lady Raven does something incredibly fucked up
- 1:09:24that puts the rest of the family in danger and says, Rachel, your
- 1:09:27husband is the butcher. Yeah, Does, yes.
- 1:09:30Rachel needs to know that. She deserves that for sure.
- 1:09:34Doing it when he's already in a state where it sounds like maybe
- 1:09:37he has potentially started murdering one or more.
- 1:09:40That's why I thought was happening when we first watched
- 1:09:42this. I was like, oh, he's killing
- 1:09:44them. Damn.
- 1:09:45I really thought when she when he gets her out of the bathroom
- 1:09:48that we were going to see just like blood everywhere.
- 1:09:51I was honestly shocked but he didn't come in there and just
- 1:09:53fucking massacre her right there.
- 1:09:55But I feel like he also wanted to keep her as like a bargaining
- 1:09:58chip if anything were to happen, like a hostage situation.
- 1:10:02I think he wanted to do his murder and his own style.
- 1:10:05Yeah, because of his OCD. So what he actually did was he
- 1:10:09locked them all upstairs in Riley's room.
- 1:10:11He gets the master key and opens the bathroom door, asks for all
- 1:10:15of the phones back and sees that Spencer's free.
- 1:10:19And he's like, OK, so we're gonna go to the car.
- 1:10:22It's very important. My hands stay on your shoulder.
- 1:10:24If I sense in you that you were about to do something, that
- 1:10:28won't be good for you. So don't try and do something.
- 1:10:30And then he goes into the garage.
- 1:10:32He's got like a secret go bag in the sitting compartment in the
- 1:10:35wall. And they get into the car and
- 1:10:38she starts using like kind of a script that I'm assuming the
- 1:10:42profiler had told them that they could use if they find
- 1:10:45themselves in a situation like this.
- 1:10:47I felt I got the impression that she was winging.
- 1:10:50I think that she knew about the mom situation.
- 1:10:53So and like that, like maybe speaking like that could help.
- 1:10:56But it seemed like she was winging in this moment here,
- 1:11:00just giving like pretending to be his mom, like Cooper, you
- 1:11:03can't. You don't have to be a monster.
- 1:11:04Monsters aren't real. And he's like, oh, they are
- 1:11:06real. And when he opens the garage
- 1:11:09door, his family is there and the cops are coming too, because
- 1:11:12she had managed to text Jeremiah before Cooper opens the door.
- 1:11:16So, Lady Raven. She slowly gets out of the car
- 1:11:22and joins the family and she's like, OK, you guys come with me,
- 1:11:25We're going to go to the limo. Yeah, but then that's when the
- 1:11:28cops. Blow and when they're walking
- 1:11:30away. I love this of him just giving
- 1:11:33like fatherly advice like. Rachel, the water repair
- 1:11:35heaters, the water heater repair guy is going to be here on
- 1:11:38Tuesday. Don't let him talk you into
- 1:11:39buying a new one. The one we have is perfectly
- 1:11:41fine. Riley.
- 1:11:42Everything's going to be OK with those girls at school.
- 1:11:45Leo. Is that the kids?
- 1:11:46I don't know. You got a school project.
- 1:11:48That young and be named Leo, that's an appropriate.
- 1:11:52Yeah, and he's like, you got a project next week?
- 1:11:53Whatever. Don't.
- 1:11:54Forget about it, science bitch. It seems like he's going to be
- 1:12:01arrested. And Lady Raven's getting in her
- 1:12:03limo and Cooper goes inside and he's cleaning.
- 1:12:06He empties out one of the closets.
- 1:12:10And then we hear the cops saying that like, oh, we found
- 1:12:12something. Oh, it's a closet.
- 1:12:15There's a tunnel leading to the neighbor's yard.
- 1:12:17Meanwhile, one of the swap members swaps out with Jeremiah,
- 1:12:20saying that like he's going to handle the driving.
- 1:12:23Oh well, go figure, it's Cooper. So he cuffs Lady Raven to like
- 1:12:30the bar area of her lomo, and he's like, listen, there are a
- 1:12:34lot of vacant houses with code violations that stay empty for
- 1:12:38years, and it's a waste of space in my opinion.
- 1:12:41So we're going to go to one of these safe houses.
- 1:12:43I got the urge when I saw you backstage.
- 1:12:45Anytime I see somebody that thinks they're whole because
- 1:12:47nobody's whole. They get to a crowded area.
- 1:12:51And she manages to reach just enough to roll down a window and
- 1:12:54say help. He rolls the window back up, but
- 1:12:57that was enough for like the crowd to kind of swarm in front
- 1:13:00and not let him pass. And she is able to shake loose
- 1:13:04from the bar and she gets out. SWAT comes by, they shoot out
- 1:13:10the tires, and then they are like telling him that he needs
- 1:13:12to come out. He doesn't.
- 1:13:14So they shoot. But actually it's just a bunch
- 1:13:16of SWAT gear propped up. He had taken some of the merch
- 1:13:18in the front seat and was dressed as a civilian and got
- 1:13:22away when they were trying to get everybody else away from the
- 1:13:24limo. We see a scene of Spencer being
- 1:13:28rescued, Lady Raven hugging the fan that helped and hugging
- 1:13:32Spencer. And that's kind of the closure
- 1:13:34for her story. She did the things that she
- 1:13:38thought she was supposed to be doing that day.
- 1:13:40Yeah, she she ended up saving people.
- 1:13:44She she, she good person. Yeah, it was not meant to be her
- 1:13:47job, but, you know, she took that on.
- 1:13:50Rachel talks to the profiler in her house, and he's.
- 1:13:53She says that, you know, nobody would have figured besides maybe
- 1:13:56a parent once when he was younger.
- 1:13:58You know, I know that your kids are with your sister.
- 1:14:03We can put you all in a safe house together.
- 1:14:05And Rachel's like, no, I just, I need to be alone.
- 1:14:09I can't be around people right now.
- 1:14:11And then she says, well, we'll leave some cruisers outside.
- 1:14:14She goes to make some tea. And as she's making tea, Cooper
- 1:14:16appears in the darkness. And he's saying, like, isn't it
- 1:14:20funny how we just know each other so well after all these
- 1:14:22years? And he's like, when did you
- 1:14:27figure out? When did you start to get
- 1:14:29suspicious? Did you think I was having an
- 1:14:32affair? And you followed me?
- 1:14:33And she was like, no, I didn't think it was an affair.
- 1:14:36But your clothes, they didn't smell like the cleaner at the
- 1:14:39Firehouse. They smelled like the hospital
- 1:14:40cleaners. Yeah, he's like, there's
- 1:14:42something I could do with that. So then he starts to take off
- 1:14:44his shirt then and there, which I don't really understand why he
- 1:14:47takes off his shirt in this moment.
- 1:14:49It really isn't clear. Yeah, I still don't understand.
- 1:14:52And she's like, well, let's have, let's finish up the pie.
- 1:14:55This right here, look, I think this right here could be a weak
- 1:14:59part in the script because all of the things that are happening
- 1:15:02here are just not really quick. And for all the things that
- 1:15:05we've seen from him, why would he?
- 1:15:07His shirt before he kills every victim is that the is the last
- 1:15:11thing they see Just Josh Hartnett and buttoning is
- 1:15:14flannel. I mean, it could be.
- 1:15:15But like what I was saying was it just feels like all the
- 1:15:21things that we've seen from his character where he's so smart
- 1:15:23and he's able to like, see steps ahead and I'll maneuver
- 1:15:27everybody. But like, she's like, hey, let's
- 1:15:30eat this pie before you kill me. And he's like, OK, yeah, let's
- 1:15:33do it. Yeah.
- 1:15:34She also saw him lie really convincingly to a neighbor,
- 1:15:37like, to the point where she would have believed it if she
- 1:15:39hadn't known that I was a lie. And so she followed him to one
- 1:15:42of the safe houses, and it's a safe house that he goes to just
- 1:15:44to think and plot and whatnot. And so she found the receipt in
- 1:15:50his wallet and just ripped part of it just enough and left it in
- 1:15:54there and called anonymously to say that she thought that that
- 1:15:57house was being used and the police presence there was enough
- 1:16:00to make him never use it again. And then this is when he's when
- 1:16:04she gives the pie and he just agrees to it.
- 1:16:06You're right, he's not suspicious of it at all and is
- 1:16:09not saying anything about it being an appropriate time to eat
- 1:16:11pie. I think she, I think that's why
- 1:16:15she kind of invoked Riley's name in that moment, though.
- 1:16:18Like this was Riley's pie. This was to celebrate her.
- 1:16:20Let's just finish this up. Yeah, I can see it.
- 1:16:22But at the same time we see he's no longer separating his parts
- 1:16:28of his life when he was like he put blinders on before whenever
- 1:16:32he was living his home life, though we've seen how he
- 1:16:35analyzes the room anytime, whenever he was in like serial
- 1:16:40killer mode. And I feel like that right there
- 1:16:42is just, it kind of it doesn't track with what we've seen of
- 1:16:45him. Two things 1.
- 1:16:49He thought this was a stalling tactic because he was like, you
- 1:16:51know, I'm going to be done in five bites anyway, so it's not
- 1:16:54delaying the. So why even why even entertain
- 1:16:57it? Because I think also, too, he's
- 1:17:00got, he's not in his usual headspace when he does these
- 1:17:05things, you know, he said. He's never felt this particular
- 1:17:08kind of rage before, so I think he's not on his A game.
- 1:17:13So angry I'm going to eat this pie before I kill you.
- 1:17:16Yes, makes sense. The classic anchor pie, you
- 1:17:20know. Yeah, you've totally convinced
- 1:17:23me. So yeah, but when he like, looks
- 1:17:29at the dust from it, he realizes that it was crushed pills from
- 1:17:33his own supply. He left the bag, the cops left
- 1:17:35the bag. And she just figured, you know,
- 1:17:38she needed to do something. He starts to try and walk away.
- 1:17:41Then he sees his mom again and is like being called towards
- 1:17:46her. And when he steps through her
- 1:17:47doorway, he gets tased. And I think the tasing has like
- 1:17:50an opposite effect of the drugs, like it kicks up his heart.
- 1:17:53Yeah, well, also were they in the entire time?
- 1:17:56I think so. So they like but he snuck in.
- 1:18:01I think, I don't know. I just, they were there.
- 1:18:05I think they knew something like this was gonna happen.
- 1:18:07I think it was a plan. Look, the ending falls apart a
- 1:18:11little bit. Like I love this movie but holy
- 1:18:14shit. Like trying to think about
- 1:18:15what's happening here. I'm just confused by certain
- 1:18:17things. Well, boy he he takes.
- 1:18:21What I wanna know is who dresses him before putting him in the
- 1:18:24cuffs because he has a shirt on when he's being led to the van.
- 1:18:27Yeah, also he gouged the fucking guy's eyes.
- 1:18:30Yeah, in this moment here, like not only did the Tasers not
- 1:18:33work, he, like you said, it invigorated him to continue
- 1:18:37killing. Yeah.
- 1:18:38So yeah, they get him shackled and dressed, and they lead him
- 1:18:41towards the van. And the kids arrive back at the
- 1:18:45house, and Riley, like, runs over and wants to hug him.
- 1:18:48And the profiler is like, let this happen.
- 1:18:51Like, this child is going to be traumatized enough, let her hug
- 1:18:55her dad. And then he also asks to fix the
- 1:18:58bike because it's knocked over. And here's the thing.
- 1:19:01It's a crucial piece of his profiler profile that he's
- 1:19:05strongly suspected to have OCDI could see it being a thing,
- 1:19:08like, let's not agitate him more.
- 1:19:11Let's let him do a thing that will relieve some of the
- 1:19:13agitation. Probably a miscalculation on
- 1:19:15their part because he does sneak a spoke out of the tire.
- 1:19:20That's a hard sentence. Yeah, I don't have a problem
- 1:19:25with that. I don't either.
- 1:19:26I just, I know that's an argument I've read from some
- 1:19:29people and I've heard from some people and that's my counter.
- 1:19:32All the things that I'm saying right now, I they're not things
- 1:19:35that make me hate this movie, which I think is what a lot of
- 1:19:38people are saying when they're trying.
- 1:19:39Like, no, this shit makes sense. Like to me, I'm like, yeah, not
- 1:19:42that makes sense. Isn't the great?
- 1:19:43Yeah, like, it's fun. Yeah, it's just a fun and silly
- 1:19:46movie, but it's also got really tense moments.
- 1:19:50So he gets into the van and then we just see him pull that spoke
- 1:19:53out of his sleeve and starts picking at his locks and.
- 1:19:56Then music plays and then he just smiles and he's like, all
- 1:20:00right, here we fucking go again. To a song called Pieces.
- 1:20:03Yes, by Lady Raven. By Lady Raven yeah, then we do
- 1:20:07get a mid credits scene which we forgot to watch this last night,
- 1:20:10but I can already tell you what happened because I remember it
- 1:20:13was a fantastic scene. We cut to Jamie on the couch
- 1:20:16after a long day of work and he turns on the news and finds out
- 1:20:21the the butcher was caught and oh, when you know it's a.
- 1:20:24It's Cooper. His face is like motherfucker.
- 1:20:29Yeah, what a fantastic ending. Yeah, I love this movie so much,
- 1:20:34I really do, and I'm keeping it in a nine and a half.
- 1:20:37Yeah, I think I'm keeping mine at a nine.
- 1:20:39OK. Yeah, Like I just like there.
- 1:20:42I just wanna like, analyze it critically and just like, you
- 1:20:48know, pick it apart at certain parts.
- 1:20:49And this movie, there's so many times you can do that, but it
- 1:20:53just doesn't really take away from my enjoyment.
- 1:20:55Yeah, I guess if there was anything that I would change
- 1:21:00with it, I don't know. I would find a better way to get
- 1:21:05him in the end just seeing how well like he escaped the fucking
- 1:21:10profiler like all of these people and then he's thwarted by
- 1:21:14the mom sneaking some drugs in his pie.
- 1:21:17I think it would have helped if we could have kept the running
- 1:21:20narration from the profiler because in the stadium it kind
- 1:21:24of helped keep that cat and mouse thing because we knew that
- 1:21:27she knew what he was about to do.
- 1:21:29So like we're like, OK, this is how we're raising the stakes
- 1:21:32here. How is he going to get out of
- 1:21:33this one? So I think you know that whole
- 1:21:35like them being in the house, we can speculate if this was a
- 1:21:39planned set up or not, but we don't know for sure the way we
- 1:21:43can at other points in the movie.
- 1:21:44I. Don't think they could have
- 1:21:45counted on her finding his bag. She it was like an impromptu
- 1:21:50thing where she found his bags like, oh, this is the drug that
- 1:21:53he. Used or that's the line she told
- 1:21:55him and she was lying. The cops just gave it to her.
- 1:21:59Could be like I think you see the bag though.
- 1:22:01That's what I'm saying. Yes, we do see the bag.
- 1:22:04The cops could have given her back the bag.
- 1:22:06I don't see any point for her to lie.
- 1:22:08At that point when she got him, she was already like playing her
- 1:22:10hand right there. You know what?
- 1:22:12What point is there to lie? She's being upfront about
- 1:22:14everything else. My point is that at this point
- 1:22:16it becomes speculation, whereas in the arena we knew like what
- 1:22:20the stakes were every step of the way.
- 1:22:22OK, that's all I was trying to say.
- 1:22:24OK, I, I that's fine. That's still the thing that I
- 1:22:27would change though, you know, like don't make it that like,
- 1:22:31let's make it a little bit more clear maybe.
- 1:22:33Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I want, I don't want to
- 1:22:35speculate. I want to know for sure what's.
- 1:22:37Happening. I thought you were offering.
- 1:22:38Explanations. No, I'm saying that I think
- 1:22:40that's part of why that falls apart is because before, like
- 1:22:43prior to this, we'd had both sides.
- 1:22:46I see what you're saying. Yeah, I gotcha.
- 1:22:47OK. So Talia, goodness, she was not
- 1:22:52prepared for this movie. I think it was going a little
- 1:22:54bit too hard for her. She was knocking down her
- 1:22:56blankies. She was sighing.
- 1:23:00She was having a time. She was having a time, I think
- 1:23:04she related really hard to seeing Spencer being monitored
- 1:23:07on a camera. I don't.
- 1:23:09I hate that that's the thing that she related to a person, a
- 1:23:13victim of a serial killer. So I think Talia would give
- 1:23:18this. 6. Six Why do you think?
- 1:23:236 Well, I don't think she hated it because I think she enjoyed
- 1:23:26the songs and I think that she enjoyed the tension of it.
- 1:23:30But I think that the whole thing of like, being reminded that we
- 1:23:36watch her on the camera didn't really give her good emotions.
- 1:23:41Or did it up the tension for her?
- 1:23:44I don't know what are you thinking she would give it?
- 1:23:48I was thinking closer to 7:00 or 8:00.
- 1:23:50OK, you can throw it up to seven, OK.
- 1:23:53Yeah. I mean, she didn't.
- 1:23:55She wasn't captivated by this one like she has been other
- 1:23:57movies before. You know, I didn't get the
- 1:23:59impression that she left this one.
- 1:24:00OK. Yeah, she might be more of a
- 1:24:02Chad in this sense here. OK, Chad, you got one person on
- 1:24:07your side then. Maybe she's still positive.
- 1:24:09Yeah, she's a 7. That's a that's a really good
- 1:24:11rate. OK, Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:24:18I think it was Jamie. Why Jamie?
- 1:24:22Cuz I think Zoe would be really excited to like, know the inside
- 1:24:26scoop of something and I don't think she'd be able to stop
- 1:24:28herself from blurting it out. Yeah, she's not good at like,
- 1:24:32hiding her hand. No, she's not.
- 1:24:35She's she's also easy to manipulate.
- 1:24:39Yeah. Yeah, she's a sweet Kitty.
- 1:24:43She is. She's not as devious as she
- 1:24:46thinks she is, No. Yeah.
- 1:24:47Dream sequel. Dream sequel.
- 1:24:50There is a potential for it with him freeing himself at the end
- 1:24:54there. I really would just want to see
- 1:24:56him on the lamb, you know he's on the lamb.
- 1:24:58Yeah, there. I feel like they're, I don't
- 1:25:02know, I feel like I could be making this up, but there is an
- 1:25:06argument. Could this play into his whole
- 1:25:08universe of like physically gifted people?
- 1:25:12Because at the end there where he tanks the I know that a lot
- 1:25:15of people have issues with him tanking the stun guns at the end
- 1:25:18there like the Tasers. Do you think that he's like a
- 1:25:21James McAvoy type guy where he's like he's in beast mode?
- 1:25:26No, I really think it was just like kind of, you know, if you
- 1:25:30have a like a heart slowing drug and then you get a shot of
- 1:25:34adrenaline, I think the Taser was just kind of acting as an
- 1:25:36adrenaline see or like an AED I've.
- 1:25:39Seen videos where people get tased and they have no effect
- 1:25:42but that's because the Taser doesn't properly latch but I
- 1:25:46don't know if that happens on skin.
- 1:25:49It's usually like it gets on to the fabric and it doesn't tase
- 1:25:53you properly. No I think it like restarted his
- 1:25:56heart. Like it jump started his heart.
- 1:25:57Yeah, no, I'm just explaining like that.
- 1:26:01It's a thing that does normally happen to people, like don't
- 1:26:03have an effect. But I don't think it happens to
- 1:26:05shirtless people. That's my question.
- 1:26:07Does it happen to shirtless people?
- 1:26:09I don't know. I'm not saying that it didn't
- 1:26:11have an effect, I'm saying it had an opposite effect of what
- 1:26:14they wanted. We were talking in circles.
- 1:26:16No, because you're saying. That I'm not making any
- 1:26:19argument, I'm just saying I'm offering explanation to people
- 1:26:22out there who are complaining about it not having an effect.
- 1:26:25I'm saying it's a real thing that happens.
- 1:26:27Like sometimes they don't have effects too.
- 1:26:30It could be your thing where you are saying it like amped him up
- 1:26:34from the jolt. I'm saying it could also be it
- 1:26:37just didn't. You never said it in a could
- 1:26:40also be kind of way. You were like, no, it's just not
- 1:26:42having an effect. That's how it was sounding.
- 1:26:45OK, Next up. Yeah.
- 1:26:47We never actually said anything for a sequel though.
- 1:26:50I said I want him on the Lam. Is that the extent of it?
- 1:26:53I don't, I will just watch whatever with it honestly.
- 1:26:58So you just whatever, you just, you don't care.
- 1:27:01Well, I want to watch him keep running.
- 1:27:03I don't have a specific idea beyond that.
- 1:27:05OK, OK. What is your idea?
- 1:27:07Well. I don't know, I was going to
- 1:27:09like workshop one with you. OK, he's on the Lam.
- 1:27:13Go. Is it just him do we like?
- 1:27:18Should we include anybody else? Like does Lady Raven come back
- 1:27:21into the picture in some point? I don't know if there's an
- 1:27:24organic way to do that. Yeah, I don't know if she really
- 1:27:26belongs. I feel like it's got to be
- 1:27:28something with the profile or so though, because it was almost
- 1:27:31like set up as her, her, his, his rival right there.
- 1:27:36Yeah, his match. And it's meant to be like the
- 1:27:37kind of Silence of the Lambs thing.
- 1:27:39Yeah. She is Clarice.
- 1:27:42Yeah, I think it could also be interesting to see him actually
- 1:27:46in bars. Like he's trapped in prison and
- 1:27:50now he's like, this is how he gets out of prison.
- 1:27:54I would love to see him do like a law abiding citizen type
- 1:27:56thing. That would be cool, too.
- 1:27:58Yeah. But yeah, OK, we could do either
- 1:28:01one of those. OK.
- 1:28:02Just like the thing I'm thinking of is like, it's kind of like
- 1:28:05the concert scene, but like amped up more because, like,
- 1:28:08he's in prison. Like, how the fuck is he
- 1:28:09escaping? It's like a prison escape movie.
- 1:28:12I'm just picturing that scene from Fast 9.
- 1:28:16Or is it Fast 10? Which?
- 1:28:20One Hobbs and Shaw in the prison.
- 1:28:22That's nine. OK, Yeah.
- 1:28:24That's what I'm picturing. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:28:26Yeah. He he just happens to be in the
- 1:28:29same prison with Hobbs and Shaw and that's how he gets out.
- 1:28:31That's not what I was going for. But no, I know.
- 1:28:34Yeah. But like, it can be.
- 1:28:36Yeah. That'd be.
- 1:28:37That's its own movie. He gets like pulled into the
- 1:28:39entourage of Fast and Furious. I would love that.
- 1:28:42Yeah. OK.
- 1:28:43Who did you relate to? I related to Cooper wanting the
- 1:28:47the funnel cake thing. He didn't actually want it, but
- 1:28:51you know, I would go walking around for funnel cake.
- 1:28:55OK, what about you? I related to Lady Raven taking a
- 1:28:59puff of that albuterol between sets.
- 1:29:01I knew you were gonna say that. Tagline.
- 1:29:05Tagline. How will he fly the Cooper?
- 1:29:11How will he? Yeah, OK, let's do that.
- 1:29:20I like it. It's very silly and nonsensical,
- 1:29:24much like this. Movie.
- 1:29:25That's true. It's fitting.
- 1:29:27OK, cool. All right.
- 1:29:29Now it's the time for reviews. Yes, OK, this felt like a
- 1:29:32Lifetime movie. Harnett and the daughter acted
- 1:29:38well that the singer was obviously picked because she's
- 1:29:40Shyamalan's daughter and the movie comes across as a
- 1:29:42nepotistic showcase for her singing.
- 1:29:44The songs are very mediocre and yet the audience is going nuts
- 1:29:47like it's Taylor Swift. Who the fuck cares about that?
- 1:29:49It's a Are you reviewing the song, like the album or like the
- 1:29:55movie? I don't understand how they can
- 1:29:58bring in hundreds of cops to search for a man if they don't
- 1:30:00know what he looks like. Their plan is to separate all
- 1:30:03men and interrogate all 20,000 of them.
- 1:30:05That is not the number that they said.
- 1:30:06There was. The The man is a genius at
- 1:30:10solving problems. He can design A remote carbon
- 1:30:12monoxide mobile release system, yet when faced with a locked
- 1:30:15bathroom door, he can't get through it.
- 1:30:17A bit later, he's able to remove a spoke from a bicycle without
- 1:30:21onlookers noticing, and then he uses it to pick handcuffs.
- 1:30:24Where was your genius brain when the bathroom door was stopping
- 1:30:27you? You know, for real, during that
- 1:30:29scene I thought the whole mentioning him being a
- 1:30:31firefighter thing was going to be him having an axe.
- 1:30:34Oh my God. Busting into that door there,
- 1:30:39that's an interesting take away from the movie there.
- 1:30:44The song sucked. I didn't like the concert.
- 1:30:47He's really good at solving problems, so.
- 1:30:49It just sounds like maybe that's not your style of music, which
- 1:30:52is fine. Yeah.
- 1:30:55He was looking for the master key to the bathroom.
- 1:30:58Like he says it multiple times. Like he says, where is the
- 1:31:00master key? Rachel, Rachel, where is the
- 1:31:02key? And then we hear he is jingling
- 1:31:05before he opens the door. It's like that was his plan.
- 1:31:08Also at that point, like he's not wanting to like ruin his
- 1:31:12family. I think he still cares for them.
- 1:31:14He was just trying to like, usher them up into the room and,
- 1:31:17you know, not destroy their door.
- 1:31:19He's still like, there's a way to salvage this, Yeah.
- 1:31:23So yeah, I mean, this movie has a lot of nonsensical stuff going
- 1:31:26on, but like. It's fun to watch an evil
- 1:31:31genius. Yeah, it really is.
- 1:31:33That's part of the appeal of it. And I could also get like, if
- 1:31:36you really don't like this style of music, yeah, it might be kind
- 1:31:38of hard to immerse yourself in the setting of this for that
- 1:31:42long. Well, that that just doesn't
- 1:31:44make sense. It's not like it's the
- 1:31:47soundtrack to the movie, because that's the thing that I would,
- 1:31:49you know, you can legitimately criticize, but it's diegetic.
- 1:31:53It's like a part of the movie. They're at a concert.
- 1:31:56Yeah. And he's there for his daughter.
- 1:31:58He doesn't give a shit about the music.
- 1:32:00He's there trying to figure out his way out.
- 1:32:02I don't think you're really supposed to care about the music
- 1:32:05being performed at all. And I mean, she had multiple
- 1:32:12sold out concerts. Like, it's part of the movie.
- 1:32:14She's a fictional singer. Lady Raven is.
- 1:32:17Yeah. This isn't Silica performing.
- 1:32:19This is Lady Raven. Yeah.
- 1:32:22And concerts sell out. You don't necessarily have to
- 1:32:27like the art. Like, sorry, maybe you're
- 1:32:30getting older and you don't want to admit that.
- 1:32:33Reviewer. Or it's just not your genre.
- 1:32:34Yeah, you know, whatever. Like, if you don't like that
- 1:32:37genre, that's totally fine too. OK, OK.
- 1:32:40Yeah, listener reviews. Yeah, we do.
- 1:32:43All right, So all right, they're all over on Twitter today.
- 1:32:47If you've send any on Instagram. I'm sorry I posted the same day
- 1:32:53because I was really late about getting this posted today.
- 1:32:56We've had a long weekend and our sense of time is very.
- 1:32:59Speed up. Yeah, OK, so we'll start off
- 1:33:04with Jurassic Souls. Who says?
- 1:33:06I actually thought it was pretty fun.
- 1:33:07Awesome score, too. OK, so he actually likes the
- 1:33:11music in this, so that's cool. Yeah, I didn't really pay too
- 1:33:16much attention to the score other than the songs being
- 1:33:19played by Weighty Raven. I think the song was pretty.
- 1:33:22The songs were pretty decent. But I am gonna say that I do
- 1:33:25think that Sky Riley wins in the battle between the two for me.
- 1:33:29Yeah, I agree. Because like, I've had new brain
- 1:33:31stuck in my head since we saw it.
- 1:33:32Yeah, yeah. Word, Zombie says.
- 1:33:35I was just about to post that if you talked about this movie, it
- 1:33:38might change my mind about seeing it.
- 1:33:39He he said that he he said that he hadn't seen it before, but he
- 1:33:44had heard nothing but bad things about it.
- 1:33:46Well, here are good things about it.
- 1:33:48So, yeah, and I've seen a lot of positive talk about it online
- 1:33:53too. So I don't know, I guess it's
- 1:33:55just it's a mixed bag out there right now.
- 1:33:58But yeah, check it out for yourself, you know, give it A
- 1:34:01and let us know if you do like it if you watch it.
- 1:34:04All right. Doctor Queely Boobs says I
- 1:34:07enjoyed this movie. Kind of messed up.
- 1:34:09I found myself reading for Cooper, then he pulled that oil
- 1:34:12fryer shit and you remember he's a fucking sociopath.
- 1:34:15I was a little disappointed with the end, but that's because I
- 1:34:18was expecting like a major M night twist.
- 1:34:21Fun movie overall though. I think the twist was meant to
- 1:34:24be that the wife set him up. I think that was like the
- 1:34:27signature twist. I think that was it, too, yeah.
- 1:34:31Or that the movie just never ends and we're still at the
- 1:34:33movie theater right now. I do think, though, that they
- 1:34:36have to throw in those moments of like, blowing up the oil and
- 1:34:41gouging out the one guy's eyes, like remind us that like.
- 1:34:45He's not a good guy. Yes, like we're following him.
- 1:34:47He's our main character, but he's not a good guy.
- 1:34:51He's not the hero. Yeah, although you do kind of
- 1:34:54like I found myself, like, I want to see him get like, you
- 1:34:58know, I don't want to watch a movie.
- 1:34:59Like a guy goes to a concert where he's like, it's a setup
- 1:35:02and he gets arrested. OK Like, that doesn't sound fun
- 1:35:05to me. I wanna see there be some
- 1:35:07conflict there where he actually does progress.
- 1:35:11Yeah. They did a good balance with it.
- 1:35:14Joe Fistatron. Yeah.
- 1:35:17It says, and that Shyamalan movies don't take place in a
- 1:35:20realistic world. They're surreal and an
- 1:35:22understated way. When you keep that in mind and
- 1:35:25grant this movie The leeway to just let things play out, it is
- 1:35:28so much fun. Great performances by some,
- 1:35:31great pace overall and fun dark humor.
- 1:35:34And this is what that's a very good quick summation of what I
- 1:35:38say about this movie. You have to just accept reality
- 1:35:41is a little bit different and it's got a very weird sense of
- 1:35:43humor. You know, and that's actually,
- 1:35:46actually true from every M9 movie I've ever seen.
- 1:35:48They're all in weirdly fictitious worlds.
- 1:35:51Yeah. There's something about it that
- 1:35:53makes it not fully grounded. Kintra says.
- 1:35:57Prayers for Chad. Chad.
- 1:36:02I'm sorry, buddy, but he. He gave a very good rundown of
- 1:36:06why he didn't like. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:36:07I don't have his rant available for this episode, but you know
- 1:36:13it was justified. There are reasons to not like
- 1:36:15this thing. And finally, Sky Riley's Stand
- 1:36:21page, otherwise known as Tyler Yes says.
- 1:36:25As someone who hasn't always been super pleased with in
- 1:36:28Nights films as of late, this was a great time for me.
- 1:36:31Josh Hardin and it was chilling and also funny to me.
- 1:36:34I can't believe how much he got away with.
- 1:36:36Lady Raven is lovely. I love the music so much in this
- 1:36:39film. Great time.
- 1:36:40Yes. Yeah.
- 1:36:42And he also, I saw he agreed with you that if it's between
- 1:36:46the two of them, Raven and Sky, Sky wins, yes.
- 1:36:50Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and Naomi Scott fucking
- 1:36:53killed it. Yeah, that's.
- 1:36:54Smile too. God, if you have been teetering
- 1:36:58with the idea of watching it, definitely watch it.
- 1:37:00And if you have the ability to do these movies is a double
- 1:37:03feature, also do that. Yeah, because it's fun.
- 1:37:06It is a really fun double feature and this is a fun movie.
- 1:37:10And this is a good one to end it on because it's, for all the
- 1:37:15darkness of it, it's got a sense of humor that kind of like,
- 1:37:18lifts you up after. Yeah, the bummer themes that
- 1:37:21surround the Smile movies. Yeah, this The Smile movies go a
- 1:37:24little bit more hard on the making you not feel good.
- 1:37:27Yeah, like. And trap is like, oh, this one
- 1:37:29is kind of fun. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:31Like he. Got out again, guys.
- 1:37:33What? What now?
- 1:37:36OK, that's it for trap. That's it.
- 1:37:38Where is it? It is.
- 1:37:40For now. But is it?
- 1:37:41Yeah, it is next week. We are actually already on to
- 1:37:46our Patreon voted movie and we gave them the option basically
- 1:37:52because it's it's Thanksgiving month and it's all about family
- 1:37:56and it's all about chowing down. So we had a couple of similar
- 1:38:01choices and what came out on top of Zombieland.
- 1:38:04Zombieland. So Zombieland right now is
- 1:38:07available to watch on Netflix, hopefully you on any
- 1:38:12subscription level. I think that's leaving sometime
- 1:38:15soon too. You can also rent it from Prime,
- 1:38:18YouTube, Google Play, or Fandango at home.
- 1:38:21Yeah. So if you haven't seen that
- 1:38:23movie, it's a lot of fun. I recommend it a lot.
- 1:38:24And. If you haven't seen it in a
- 1:38:25while, give it a re watch. It's a good time.
- 1:38:28Yeah. So that's what we'll be doing
- 1:38:30next. We want to give a shout out to
- 1:38:32those patrons who voted on this. We've got Joe.
