- 0:00Welcome to today's episode. We have a fascinating
- 0:03story from the technology and utility sector
- 0:06today. At the 2026 Digital Engineering Awards,
- 0:10which are organized by ISG, L &T Technology Services,
- 0:13and the CNBC Group, Right. the Dubai Electricity
- 0:18and Water Authority, better known as DIWA, made
- 0:21a massive impact. That's right. DIWA won both
- 0:25the Innovator of the Year And Engineering Product
- 0:28of the Year honors. It is a really powerful reflection
- 0:31of their exceptional leadership in innovation.
- 0:34Wow. And their drive for digital engineering
- 0:37excellence. Usually when we think of a utility
- 0:40company, we just think of, you know, the grid.
- 0:42But Diwa is operating on a whole different level
- 0:45right now. Absolutely. Just look at the innovation
- 0:49that secured them the Engineering Product of
- 0:51the Year. They won it for their advanced Internet
- 0:53of Things terminal, called OmniHub. This isn't
- 0:57just an off -the -shelf product. No, definitely
- 0:59not. The terminal was designed and manufactured
- 1:02at DEWA's Research and Development Center under
- 1:05its SpaceD program. And its function is straight
- 1:08out of the future. The OmniHub is intended to
- 1:11connect terrestrial sensors with satellites and
- 1:15ground -based networks. Basically, they are using
- 1:17space technology. That's crazy. To make sure
- 1:22their grid and services are incredibly smart
- 1:24and reliable. The leadership at Diwa sees this
- 1:27as part of a much larger global mission. Let
- 1:30me share exactly what His Excellency Saeed Mohammed
- 1:33Al -Tayr, MD and CEO of Diwa, had to say about
- 1:37this achievement. He stated, In line with the
- 1:40wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed
- 1:42bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime
- 1:44Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, to position
- 1:48Dubai as a global hub of the digital economy,
- 1:50and in support of the Dubai Economic Agenda,
- 1:53D33, We continue our relentless efforts to achieve
- 1:57meaningful progress across digital fields. Yeah.
- 2:00We are focused on strengthening our global leadership
- 2:03in future -oriented sectors, shaping the digital
- 2:06landscape, and building a diversified knowledge
- 2:08-based economy powered by innovation. Incredible.
- 2:12At the same time, we are enhancing our advanced
- 2:15digital capabilities to accelerate innovation,
- 2:17improve operational efficiency, and reinforce
- 2:20security and resilience while setting new benchmarks
- 2:23for excellence and competitive performance. That
- 2:26statement really highlights how this goes far
- 2:28beyond just providing power and water. It's about
- 2:31shaping a knowledge -based economy. To add to
- 2:34that perspective, Walid bin Salman, Executive
- 2:37Vice President of Business Development and Excellence
- 2:39at Diwa, noted that the global accolades reinforce
- 2:42Diwa's ability to translate excellence into deeply
- 2:45rooted institutional value. Right. Helping it
- 2:49to anticipate challenges and transform them into
- 2:51growth opportunities. Yes. While strengthening
- 2:54stakeholder trust and happiness. Beautifully
- 2:57said. You can't achieve that kind of institutional
- 3:00value without brilliant minds driving the research.
- 3:03That brings us to the second major award. Dr.
- 3:07Ramit Agum Susantoyaku, senior R &D technologist
- 3:10at the R &D Center, was named Innovator of the
- 3:13Year. Wow, amazing! In recognition of his groundbreaking
- 3:17contributions to digital engineering and sustainable
- 3:20innovation. It really shows that investing in
- 3:23your own R &D talent pays massive dividends,
- 3:26from satellite -connected IoT hubs to sustainable
- 3:29engineering breakthroughs. Mm -hmm. Diwa is proving
- 3:32that the utility sector can be a hub for world
- 3:35-class digital innovation. Now, here's a question
- 3:38we'd like you to think about. As utility companies
- 3:41increasingly integrate space programs and satellite
- 3:44networks into their operations, yeah, it's wild.
- 3:47How might this change our expectations of urban
- 3:50resilience and smart city infrastructure in the
- 3:52next decade?
