- 0:17To keep it 100 and do it for the fam, yeah.
- 0:21What up, what up, what up? What's going on, man? Same old saying, can't complain.
- 0:27Six mil, keeping it trill. This your boy KG. What's good, man?
- 0:32What's on your mind? What you been up to?
- 0:34Oh, man, you know, just working. Last week was hectic. Whole lot of walking,
- 0:37which I know you're used to.
- 0:39You know that. So, you know, but got some rest this weekend.
- 0:43Not enough, but, you know, some is enough, I guess, especially at our age.
- 0:50Some is better than none. That's for damn sure. Absolutely.
- 0:54Yeah. So what you want to get into today, man? So today we want to talk about extending grace.
- 1:01And we'll get into what we mean by that.
- 1:04But I think most of you know when you hear that, especially from the black community,
- 1:08what extending grace means.
- 1:10All right. Cool. Cool. Cool. I like that. But so you want to you want to get
- 1:15into it, like like tell us exactly what you mean by extending grace or you want
- 1:20to talk around it first or what you want to get into it. All right.
- 1:24Let's get into it. So I'll use a few examples, especially historically.
- 1:27So we talk about extending grace. We talk about Dylan Roof, for example,
- 1:33and the church shooting.
- 1:34How during this trial, how the families of the victims showed up to court and just forgave them.
- 1:41Now, granted, we understand that a lot of that is because these were church
- 1:45going people who believe in, you know, forgiving. I get that.
- 1:50I can go on and on and on with historical leaders from Nelson Mandela to John
- 1:54Lewis to Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, who really didn't extend grace to a
- 2:00lot of people. But I think you get the idea.
- 2:02Well, just for a little historical context, Dylan Roof is the shooter who killed
- 2:08the nine parishioners. parishioners at the AME Church in South Carolina some years back.
- 2:15Yeah, just went in while they were having prayer meeting and decided to open fire. And yeah.
- 2:21So, yeah, it's it's I'm not sure I agree from a religious standpoint,
- 2:27from a biblical standpoint, they are correct in awarding that grace.
- 2:33No, it says turn the other cheek. And if they slap you on the other cheek,
- 2:37then, you know, you still extend grace. That's what Jesus taught.
- 2:42But as a human, as a flawed individual, I'm not so sure that I could extend grace in that moment.
- 2:51And that's something that I'm working on.
- 2:54And, you know, that's my inner conflict. And I know you wanted to bring up Botham
- 2:59Jean and what his brother did to Amber Geiger at the trial. Correct.
- 3:07There's just no amount. And like you just said, you know, something you need to work on.
- 3:12But there's just no amount of forgiveness.
- 3:15The fact that you took my brother from me with all this nonsense story.
- 3:21You went to the wrong floor, yada, yada, yada. And again, I don't know why it happened. Right.
- 3:27I wasn't there. Right. But this getting up and can I give you a hug?
- 3:31No, you absolutely cannot give me a hug. Go sit down somewhere. Facts.
- 3:36Me personally, I probably would have been more upset at the fact that she only
- 3:42got 10 years, which she probably ain't going to do 10 years.
- 3:46She probably, given what year it is, she's probably up for parole.
- 3:51If not this year, then probably next year.
- 3:54Correct. So, yeah, I would not have been wanting to give her a hug either.
- 4:00Again, one of my blind spots, something that I'm working on.
- 4:04I get it. But to move this in a different direction, I mean,
- 4:10because we could we could sit here and talk about historical events or, you know,
- 4:15atrocities that have occurred throughout history, especially the black people
- 4:19and go, should or shouldn't we extend grace?
- 4:23But I'm going to get this on a more personal level because when we came up with
- 4:31this and we still may at a different point revisit this,
- 4:36I would like to have someone from the previous generation,
- 4:42someone from our generation, which would be you and I, and someone from the
- 4:48next generation to just sit down and have a discussion about.
- 4:53How they felt about us and
- 4:57how we feel about the next
- 5:00generation and it it sort of ties into what
- 5:04Kyrie was saying recently about I'm not a YN and
- 5:07not on rock with rock YNs so I
- 5:10would I would like to bring those groups
- 5:14together and sort of have a have a discussion so so
- 5:17I'm getting into all of that to say this to
- 5:20get a little bit personal my father is
- 5:24past god bless his soul but my
- 5:27father was no from a
- 5:30generation where all they knew was
- 5:33work work work work work
- 5:36work and and he was hard knows and it
- 5:40was and you you know it anyone who
- 5:46knew him knows that that's the truth but to to to get personal when i turned
- 5:5416 and i'm not saying that i was a d1 caliber athlete i'm not saying that at all but when i turned 16.
- 6:05I brought home my permission slip for basketball and my father told me,
- 6:10no, I'm not signing any more permission slips.
- 6:14Say you're 16 now. It's time to get a job.
- 6:18Men work, boys play.
- 6:22Those were his exact words. Again, I'm not saying that I could have been a D1
- 6:30athlete and even past athletics.
- 6:34Even scholastically, I kind of feel like my parents didn't really care.
- 6:41It was just more just graduate high school.
- 6:45That's all I really want for you is to graduate high school.
- 6:48I don't feel like I got pushed.
- 6:51Like I said, academically, I don't feel like I was pushed to extend my education
- 6:57to college. It was more or less just get a job.
- 7:01And that's what men do. And times were different.
- 7:05Absolutely. Times were different back then. And, you know, I'm of two minds on this, right?
- 7:11Because sometimes I catch myself daydreaming going, what would my life have been?
- 7:17But then on the other hand, I go, man, you are exactly where God wants you to
- 7:23be. So try not to dwell on the what ifs and just accept things for what they are.
- 7:33And I fight with the being angry at my pops versus just accepting and extending
- 7:41grace and and and realizing as I get older that.
- 7:48That's just how he was. That's the way that he was raised.
- 7:53That's what he knew. And I can't be angry at him for being true to who he was.
- 8:01If he didn't know, he didn't know.
- 8:04I mean, he couldn't. He wasn't a sports guy, so he can't fathom the opportunities
- 8:11that these guys are getting now because of sports. It was just a concept that was foreign to him.
- 8:19So so so I guess the the part that I try in and sit with the the the part that
- 8:29gives me joy, the part that gives me comfort.
- 8:32While I did not always agree with his
- 8:35methods I understand pops taught
- 8:39me how to be a man and I understand and I thank him for that so with with all
- 8:46of the disagreements I may have had over the years and and felt like yeah you
- 8:51could have did this you could did that differently In the end,
- 8:55I get it. I understand.
- 8:58And that's where it's the extending grace comes into that.
- 9:05And we all make mistakes and we all just do what we know how to do.
- 9:11You know what I'm saying? Do some people have ill intent?
- 9:14Of course. I'm not naive.
- 9:17But when it when it comes to parenting, a lot of the times they were just doing
- 9:24the best that they could.
- 9:25They were doing what they knew and their generation was, you take your ass to
- 9:31work, you take care of your family. And that was that.
- 9:36So, so to me, to, to, to not get too personal, but yeah, that's,
- 9:41that's, that's sort of, uh.
- 9:43Where my mind is on this extending grace conversation is, is sometimes we have
- 9:48to accept the flaws of the previous generation.
- 9:53And at the same time even though we
- 9:56try and instill values
- 9:59into the next generation and we try and show
- 10:02them hey young buck that ain't the way to go which
- 10:06is why i would like to talk to someone from the previous generation to see how
- 10:09they felt about us it's like i was young once i get it i get it you you you
- 10:15looking at me and you going man you don't know what you're talking about yeah
- 10:19but i do i I may not know your day to day situation,
- 10:24but from afar, I can tell you.
- 10:28You're on the wrong path, player. I think one of the biggest things for that
- 10:31generation, you know, my father include, mother and father included,
- 10:34as you said, work, work, work.
- 10:38Back in those days, you went to work. The company took care of you. They looked out for you.
- 10:45You know, not to get personal, but there were there were a couple of times I
- 10:49know he probably slapped me upside my head.
- 10:52But there were times where I saw a bank slip or two and think to yourself.
- 10:58Oh, that's how much your check is. Right.
- 11:01And then I think about what my checks have been over the years. Right.
- 11:05While they have been great, mediocre and below average.
- 11:10Right. In my adult life at some point. Right.
- 11:12I feel like some of the receipts that I that I've seen from deposits don't even compare.
- 11:20Right. To what our parents were. Right. Were making. Right. I could always remember
- 11:24everybody that I was around. You know, pops had all his homies around.
- 11:28So I could always remember whenever one of them pulled out a wallet,
- 11:32there was always five or six hundred dollar bills, 10 to 20, 20 dollar bill.
- 11:40Which is silly because like, why you don't got that money in the bank?
- 11:44Well, back then, though, you know, nobody was carrying around debit cards because
- 11:48remember, we got our first bank account.
- 11:51Mine was was an ATM card. That's a good point. That's all I had. That's a good point.
- 11:56Because my pop's wallet used to be fat as hell, too. And I'd be like,
- 11:59bro, why is your wallet so fat?
- 12:01Rubber band around it. All of that. But that's a good point. You're right.
- 12:05No debit card. So my bad. Go ahead.
- 12:11But going back to what you said about, you know, doing the best they could.
- 12:17I'm going back to just 12, 13 hours ago. I had this conversation with one of
- 12:21the kids about. Now, I tell them all the time, I'm not going to tell you anything
- 12:26that I don't feel is going to benefit you.
- 12:30Right. I would never put you in a position where, man, pops just gave me a bunch
- 12:35of nonsense and just running his mouth and just talking. So...
- 12:40I know they don't understand it now because the things that we've gone through
- 12:44and that we've seen, they haven't seen it yet, especially two of my four kids.
- 12:50Like, you know, two of them are almost 30 now. Right.
- 12:54The other two are 20 and 21. So they're going through some different things
- 12:58that that the two older ones not because, I mean, they're fathers.
- 13:02So they're going to have more experience. Sure. In certain things.
- 13:06And get a different perspective. Absolutely.
- 13:10I extend grace to my children because they're my children.
- 13:13Right. But I say often, man, if y'all was just some people on the streets,
- 13:18I'd just be like, you know what?
- 13:22Just wipe my hands like they do at the casinos. Like, all right, I'm out.
- 13:26Right. Like, I'm not going to tell you nothing else. Right. But at the same
- 13:29time, last thing I want to see is any of my children fail.
- 13:33For sure. And fall on their face. For sure. Now, well, let me rephrase that.
- 13:38You're going to fall on your face, but I'll never walk away and not help you back up. Right. Right.
- 13:44I'll never do that. Right. So in certain instances, we need to extend grace.
- 13:49But I will tell you, at this age, if you are not a part of my everyday life,
- 13:55if the things that you bring to the table are not things that I need in my everyday
- 14:01life, I'm not extending grace at all.
- 14:04I just don't care. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I will sleep my
- 14:09eight hours and not think twice about you.
- 14:13You're talking about an acquaintance, a co-worker, someone that you're not particularly close to? Yes and no.
- 14:21So yes, with the co-worker and the acquaintance.
- 14:25As far as family goes, if you don't want to rock with me every day,
- 14:29I won't rock with you every day. But you're my family.
- 14:31If you call and you need me, I'll be there for you. I'll answer.
- 14:36But I will not lose any sleep because you mad at me.
- 14:42You or whatever you mad about can kick rocks. I don't care.
- 14:47I'll see you at Thanksgiving, at Christmas, wherever. I'll give you a hug.
- 14:51I'll be happy to see you. I'll be glad that you're healthy.
- 14:54But there's no way I'm going to reach out to you to try to understand why you're mad at me.
- 15:01Because I'm about to sound arrogant
- 15:03as hell right now. I know I didn't do nothing to make you mad. Okay.
- 15:08Because I don't have any beef with anybody. Right. Right. Right.
- 15:13No problems. No nothing. Right.
- 15:15Right. And I think the issue...
- 15:21Is, and this is just my personal experience, whether the advice is solicited
- 15:27or not, if I'm giving you advice, it's not because I'm trying to control you.
- 15:33It's not because I'm trying to stop you from having fun.
- 15:38I'm giving you advice out of concern. I'm giving you advice from a place of
- 15:45love and experience and experience i just if i know that you're about to run
- 15:51into a dead end i'm just trying to tell you hey man don't make that right turn it's a dead end,
- 15:58it's not that i'm trying to drive your car not that
- 16:01i'm trying to tell you i'm i'm just trying to hey you had
- 16:04it for trouble that's all it's all out of love it's never personal at least
- 16:09not the way that you perceive it to be personal right it's personal for me because
- 16:15i feel like i'm trying to help you out and it's all from love it ain't personal
- 16:21like i'm dissing you it's just hey,
- 16:24let me let me let me piggyback off of that yeah that's something else too it's
- 16:28it's and of course i'm generalizing the younger generation when you bring something
- 16:34to their attention even if they're If you're talking to him the way I'm talking right now, say, hey,
- 16:39don't do this. Don't do that. You should probably try this.
- 16:42It seems like it's all taken personal. Always. Instantly.
- 16:47Instantly. It's taken personal. And I'm speaking from experience as a father. Yes.
- 16:52I have to look at, you know. What did I say? Like, well, what did I say?
- 16:58Yeah. But do you really want to go here with me?
- 17:01You're about 30 seconds away from this being a different conversation.
- 17:05Right, right. But it's just like, no, man, I'm just bringing something to your
- 17:09attention and then we can just move on. Right.
- 17:11But if you want to keep pushing back, pushing back, pushing back,
- 17:15I'm not going to just stop because I'm your father.
- 17:18So I'm going to now I'm not going to get on your nerve or do my best not to get on your nerves.
- 17:23You get on my nerves. But if I'm trying to stop you from doing something stupid.
- 17:29You're going to listen. Hopefully. You'll listen. Right.
- 17:33But I tell them all the time. I was like, boy, open up your notes on your phone
- 17:37and put this date in there.
- 17:39Because one day you're going to call me and be like, you know what?
- 17:42She was right. Now, granted, I understand you and I had the same issues.
- 17:46We fell on our face a bunch of times. For sure. For sure. Oh,
- 17:49man. Lord knows I've done some dumb stuff in my life. For sure.
- 17:52We all have. It's a part of growing up.
- 17:55So, but I'll be real with you. A lot of the stuff I see going on with some of
- 17:58these kids, man, I don't remember doing.
- 18:00Maybe I was just too scared to do it. But, yeah, it's tricky.
- 18:07It's tricky both ways. And, you
- 18:10know, like I said, it's just a matter of extending grace both ways, right?
- 18:16Me extending grace to you as an elder and you accepting the fact that what I'm
- 18:25saying to you is impersonal. Don't take it as a personal slight. Right.
- 18:29Don't take it as a diss. I'm not dissing you.
- 18:31I'm just trying to show you as an elder the error of your ways.
- 18:36And is is is one of those things that always bothered me is to hear people say, I did it by myself.
- 18:46I made it on my own. No, you didn't.
- 18:50Somewhere along the line, somebody helped you. And not only did somebody help
- 18:56you, but you listened to somebody.
- 19:01Nobody does it on their own. Don't ever think that you're don't be that arrogant
- 19:07to think you don't need anyone.
- 19:09And don't be that naive to think that you didn't get advice,
- 19:14whether it's from your parent, your uncle, your brother, someone or random stranger.
- 19:20Somebody told you something that you listened to.
- 19:24So why not just listen to the person who got your best interests at heart?
- 19:32That's my thing. It's like if I'm telling you something because I'm not a generally
- 19:38shady person, I'm not malicious.
- 19:42So if I'm telling you something, I'm telling you out of pure love and I'm telling you out of concern.
- 19:52I'm trying to help you the best way that I know how I can't be Cliff Huxtable.
- 19:58Cliff Huxable ain't real. I can't be that TV dad.
- 20:03I can only be the best dad, the best uncle, the best brother.
- 20:09Hell, even the best friend that I know how to be.
- 20:14If I come off abrasive, then we can talk about it.
- 20:19You could have said that a different way. All right.
- 20:21Let's talk about that. That's the way I am.
- 20:24I'll try and work on it. Let me know my blind spots. I don't know what's there
- 20:29unless somebody tell me this was a blind spot.
- 20:32You could have said that a different way. All right, then I'll try and rephrase it better next time.
- 20:36But it's those conversations that we need to have instead of just I'm done with
- 20:43so and so, which is another concept that's just foreign as hell to me.
- 20:48Because that's things that we would never say about a family member or an elder
- 20:53back in the day is I'm done with man. You get your head knocked off. I'm done with so and so.
- 21:01You know, I mean, like we were always taught ain't nobody going to support you like family in the end.
- 21:08Even when you got disagreements, ain't nobody going to support you like family.
- 21:13So you got it? You got anything else you want to add to that topic, brother?
- 21:17No, man, you covered that perfectly. All right, cool, cool, cool.
- 21:22Let's talk about some current events, man. Anything currently you want to talk about?
- 21:28No, I'm going to let you go on that one. All right.
- 21:32And I know you're aware because you follow these things way more closely than I do.
- 21:39So I know you're aware of Gil getting arrested for gambling.
- 21:43I want to be clear when I say this. I want to be crystal clear when I say this.
- 21:50I am not debating, discussing or arguing for or against his innocence or guilt.
- 22:01I don't know any of the details about his arrest, except for it was about gambling.
- 22:09That'll be discussed in court. Holler at me after court. When all the details
- 22:14come out, I can give you a different opinion.
- 22:17My thing about Gil getting arrested is this.
- 22:22What is FanDuel? What is a casino?
- 22:27Isn't gambling legal? I mean, you got poker tournaments on ESPN.
- 22:34Isn't gambling legal? Well, it's legal when you got sponsors,
- 22:38when you got people behind you.
- 22:39But for me, with him, it was him and another gentleman that were arrested.
- 22:44I can't remember the other guy's name.
- 22:46But it was for, I mean, let's just keep it real, for doing something that you and I have seen before.
- 22:53We've been in those houses. For sure.
- 22:56Throwing the dice off the wall. For sure. High stakes poker games at his mansion.
- 23:02So you're telling me that nobody else is having high stakes poker game.
- 23:08Right. I'll bring a scene from the wire.
- 23:11Remember when Glenn Thurman was running behind, running for mayor,
- 23:15rerunning for mayor? Call another car again.
- 23:18What'd they do? All the biggest politicians and the who's who's were there losing
- 23:25money to a man rerunning for politics. So you're telling me stuff like that is okay.
- 23:32But Gil, bringing people to his home to play poker is enough to get you arrested.
- 23:39And keep in mind, this didn't happen yesterday. This happened in 2023.
- 23:43This wasn't something that just happened. This happened two years ago.
- 23:49So, look, I get it. You don't want anybody to have high-stakes poker games.
- 23:54I don't know how much money was involved. Maybe it was millions.
- 23:57Maybe he had roulette tables in there, the whole shebang. I don't know.
- 24:00But it seems crazy to me to arrest somebody in the day of FanDuel and DraftKings.
- 24:05And with DraftKings sponsoring pretty much every single sports podcast I listen
- 24:10to is sponsored by DraftKings.
- 24:12Hell, watching TNT during the season. Chuck gives his picks for FanDuel. Right.
- 24:20Right. It's on the radios every morning. And so I guess my my my question,
- 24:27my my beef with this whole thing is, why is the law conditional?
- 24:32And I'm not asking that to get an answer. It's rhetorical. Why is the law conditional?
- 24:40You know, and and I'm about to go down some twists and turns here. So stay with me.
- 24:46During Prohibition, alcohol was illegal.
- 24:50As soon as Al Capone and them got arrested, what do they do?
- 24:55They turn around and make alcohol legal.
- 24:59Everyone's aware now that in some states, weed is legal.
- 25:05So does Illigato... Okay, let me just stop there.
- 25:12Are things only legal when the government can get their cut?
- 25:17Feels like that sometimes. Yeah, it does. Right. So as long as the government
- 25:22gets their cut, it's cool.
- 25:24But when the government doesn't get their cut, now it's illegal.
- 25:27Even with Vic. And I know the animal rights people are be up in arms about me
- 25:33saying this, but Vic went to jail.
- 25:36They say gambling, but really it was about him killing the dogs.
- 25:39But yet if I pay my honey license fee, I can go kill as many animals as I want
- 25:45to. And nobody will say anything about it.
- 25:48So as long as the government get their share, it's legal. It's not about the act.
- 25:54Quote unquote, it's about paying your dues, basically.
- 25:59It's having the audacity to go against.
- 26:03So, I mean, think about how many videos. Well, I know you're not on social media
- 26:06that much, but there's so many videos out there of there's a hashtag fishing
- 26:10while black sitting at a local pond or a lake. Here comes somebody.
- 26:16And then when the police get called, you know, most of the time the police are cool with cool about it.
- 26:21Like, you know, but show us your hunting license or your fishing license.
- 26:24If you don't have a fishing license, they turn it into this this huge deal.
- 26:28So you're telling me that paying you forty five dollars means that I know more
- 26:33about fishing. Thank you.
- 26:36Than that. No, it just tells me that you just want $45. The gatekeepers.
- 26:41Right. Anybody can come here and fix. Anytime they feel like now granted,
- 26:45I know a lot of people listening to this and saying, come on,
- 26:48man. You got to, you know, there's dudes to everything.
- 26:50I get that. Right. Not arguing that.
- 26:53But, come on. It's silly.
- 26:55From a bird's eye view, wait, I'm getting arrested for something that's legal?
- 27:02Oh, wait, but it's not legal? Wait. Well, which is it? Is it legal? Or is it illegal?
- 27:07I don't understand. Because of a piece of paper. Yeah.
- 27:11Yeah. It's just it's it's it's so crazy to me.
- 27:15And and even with to take this in a different direction really quickly and then
- 27:19I'm going to get back on point. Even with like states' rights,
- 27:23we're the United States of America.
- 27:28Why do some states operate different from other states when it comes to the law?
- 27:34Shouldn't we all just be under one federal law, which is supposed to be passed by Congress?
- 27:41Why does the governor get to determine, yeah, I don't want that in my state?
- 27:45Then are we really the United States or are we operating sort of as each state
- 27:50is its own sovereign country to a certain extent?
- 27:54One of the things that's always gotten me is when some of these states say,
- 27:57well, I don't want that money. Yeah.
- 28:00Or they take it. And I won't say the state, give the governor the name,
- 28:03none of this. But when that federal money was taken away from.
- 28:08It was taken from the federal government and redistributed to the police department
- 28:13when it was supposed to go toward a bunch of different programs.
- 28:17What did they do? They bought an armored vehicle.
- 28:20Something they probably have never used. Right. In a town of two and a half,
- 28:25what? 2,500 people. Mm-hmm.
- 28:28Well, we'll buy that. But God forbid some kids get free food during the summertime for breakfast.
- 28:36Yeah. Yeah, it's just one of those things.
- 28:41And again, say what you want about Gil, because this is not about Gilbert Arenas in the end.
- 28:48And I've listened to his podcast. I don't think Gil is a dumb guy.
- 28:54I actually think he's quite intelligent.
- 28:56Whether you agree or disagree with his views is not the point.
- 29:00I don't think he's a dumb brother.
- 29:03So again this is just like what are we really doing here like like the gatekeepers
- 29:09you just got to pay your tax you got to pay your you got to pay your fee and
- 29:13then you can operate with.
- 29:17Immunity but even then if i pay the fee and i'm not doing it the way you want
- 29:21me to do it that's a problem that you're right you're right bro you're right
- 29:26you're right they're coming You're right.
- 29:28So so I guess I'm saying all of that to say we really,
- 29:33really need to think about it when we start assessing guilt and innocence is
- 29:40like, is it is it really just as simple as a stroke of a pen as to who's innocent and who is guilty?
- 29:48Something to think about something to think about anything else you want to talk about bro,
- 29:54now it's time for everyone's favorite
- 29:59favorite segment called
- 30:04rort i know it's gonna
- 30:06take a minute to get used to i'm working on it but for now that's what it is
- 30:11a rant about a random topic And I'm going to rant about something that's really
- 30:17weird This is just one of my quirks Y'all don't judge me for it But I work outdoors.
- 30:26So I'm always like looking at squirrels.
- 30:32And I think to myself, what in the hell does a squirrel do all day?
- 30:38I know this is silly, but it's just like, OK, you go search for some food.
- 30:45You dig your hole, you bury it. And then what do you do for the rest of the day?
- 30:50It's just like, is that your whole life? Is you just on a constant search for
- 30:54food? So these are just some of the silly things that I've been thinking about
- 30:58when I be at work and, you know, not paying attention to my actual job.
- 31:07But, yeah, I just like what what what does a squirrel do all day besides just
- 31:12look for food and and what a simple life to have?
- 31:17I i i guess that's the part that
- 31:21i really like pays attention to
- 31:24or or or or or caught my
- 31:27attention was what a simple life you know and i'm not saying i want to be a
- 31:32squirrel no no no no no no no no no no no not saying that at all just saying
- 31:37what stress does a squirrel other than trying to cross the damn street i'm about
- 31:42to say yeah yeah other other than that what stress does a squirrel actually have.
- 31:46Making you slam on the brakes four times.
- 31:49Is he going left and right like somebody shooting at him? Oh,
- 31:54man. Scatterbrains, man.
- 31:57Scatterbrain and jitterbug. You just be like, dude, I'm not chasing you. What are you doing?
- 32:03So on top of that one, I got another one. All right.
- 32:08So back in 2017, there was a satirical conspiracy started that birds were not real.
- 32:15Oh, my God. I remember that. I think you even put me on the deck. Yeah.
- 32:19So it was meant to be just funny. Mm hmm.
- 32:22And the guy who started it did it because of a lot of the pro-Trump things going on. Mm hmm.
- 32:28And he did it to to be funny.
- 32:31OK. And do you know in 2025, there are people who actually believe that birds
- 32:37are drones processed in mass quantity by the United States government to spy on its citizens,
- 32:45even though they lay eggs, even though they reproduce drones?
- 32:50I saw a comment once, I think it was on Reddit, where a dude's rebuttal to pigeons
- 32:58having babies was, have you ever seen a baby pigeon?
- 33:02I just logged off. I closed the app and just went on about my business.
- 33:07Birds are drones and robots.
- 33:12Oh, so.
- 33:16So. Somebody. Birds have been around my entire life.
- 33:22I'm sure before. I mean, there are some people who argue that birds are dinosaurs.
- 33:28So who created the technology that infused robotics with organics to the point
- 33:38where they can reproduce and lay eggs and eat?
- 33:43And I mean, you know, bird shit. We all had it on our cars.
- 33:49Who produced that technology that you
- 33:52got a technical organism with
- 33:56an organic organism so i'm not making this up this is gonna sound stupid but
- 34:02this is to piggyback off what you just said so the movement believes that when
- 34:06birds defecate on your car that that's a tracking method and that all birds
- 34:11were actually exterminated between 1959 and 1971 he won.
- 34:20Yes, sir. If it flies, it spies.
- 34:24Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 34:30Hold up. Hold up. So bird poo got microscopic trackers.
- 34:39So are they dropping it at random or are they picking people?
- 34:44What makes the bird? Because now you're you're assessing some type of or you're
- 34:49assigning some type of intelligence.
- 34:50Intelligence to the bird so you
- 34:55mean to tell me someone is going hey put a
- 34:58tracker on that car right there now keep
- 35:02in mind this was all started as a joke as a joke there's websites now there's
- 35:09merchandise there have been billboards erected throughout the midwest where
- 35:13we are now i have now i've never seen one where we are but there have been billboards
- 35:18erected in different areas around the Midwest.
- 35:21Birds aren't real. Well, what does it mean when they get in my dryer shoe?
- 35:27Dude, am I like... You being tracked, dog. Yeah, am I high up on somebody's list?
- 35:32I mean, like, the government wants me? Shit, for what?
- 35:38I'm about to say, you ain't gonna get nothing from me. Right.
- 35:42Trust me, I'm not the dude.
- 35:43You can follow me all you want to. I go to work, I come home.
- 35:46I'm pretty boring. And you ain't gonna follow me far because if I come out in
- 35:49the morning, And this bird shit on the truck.
- 35:51I go straight to the car wash. Right. Wash it off. Yeah.
- 35:55So you ain't tracking me too far. Yeah. And the car wash what?
- 35:58Two blocks from the house.
- 36:04I don't even know what to say about that. I really don't. Other than. Yeah. It's silly.
- 36:14We're adding a new segment this week called Five on the Black Hand Side,
- 36:19where we're going to review a black movie.
- 36:24And we classified black as a predominantly black cast, black writers, black actors.
- 36:34That may change as we go forward, but that's sort of how we're classifying it
- 36:38for now. And the movie we chose to review this week is the classic.
- 36:45And I don't want to say black classic because that diminishes it.
- 36:49The classic Cooley High starring Glenn Terman, Garrett Morris,
- 36:57who you guys may remember as Stan for Martin and Lawrence Hilton Jacobs.
- 37:05So, my brother, you want to give us a little brief synopsis about Cooley High?
- 37:11So Cooley High was was based in the 1960s in Chicago.
- 37:16Cooley High Vocational School, which is now closed, was the school that they went to.
- 37:22It's about two teenage boys. Women are everything to them.
- 37:27And consequences are somewhat of a rumor. They don't know anything about consequences.
- 37:31They just pretty much run in the streets.
- 37:33Preach is a poet. Mm-hmm. No money. Mm-hmm. Thinks he's deep.
- 37:38And Cochise is the star athlete just trying to make it out. Mm-hmm.
- 37:42Ended up getting caught up in some mess. They cut class, went to house parties.
- 37:48One of the funniest scenes, stealing the teacher's car, getting in the stolen
- 37:52car, trying to finesse their way through life, all while dodging the cops,
- 37:58shady friends like Damon.
- 38:00Mm-hmm. Well, I guess he was their friend in the beginning. Yeah, at one point. Yeah.
- 38:06It starts off as kind of like a buddy comedy. Yeah.
- 38:11And ends up, you know, as it did all of us as kids, punching you in the stomach.
- 38:16For sure. Seeing something like that happen.
- 38:18Because you know as well as I do, back in those days.
- 38:22Someone passed, which you and I both have lost friends at very young age. Yes.
- 38:27It was hard to deal with because you're invincible at that age. Yeah.
- 38:31So to see that movie and to see how sad it was, it was hard. For sure. It was funny.
- 38:38It was heartbreaking. And as I just said, it's way too relatable.
- 38:44Very. Because for you and I, we grew up. I mean, I don't know the exact distance, but I mean,
- 38:49you and I grew up not less than 20 miles from where this movie was
- 38:52filmed right so for us everything that they were doing in some way shape or
- 38:57form we did all of the same stuff sure sure sure absolutely and you know one
- 39:03of the things that get overlooked is what a great soundtrack this movie has I mean a lot of Motown.
- 39:13Classics are on the Cooley High soundtrack but you know when I when I when I
- 39:19think about Cooley High I mean, first of all,
- 39:22love the movie, but I in my mind, I do this comparison to movies like Grease
- 39:30and The Outsiders and American Graffiti.
- 39:36And I look at those movies as a stark contrast to the black teenage experience
- 39:45versus the white teenage experience.
- 39:48Even movies like Sparkle, right? I mean, because they were just kids. They were teenagers.
- 39:53You look at the, gosh, drama that the black teens were going through compared to the white teens.
- 40:07The white teens didn't have anything to care about. What kind of car am I going to drive?
- 40:12The black kids. A whole different set of worries, a whole different ball of
- 40:18wax as it relates to stress in their everyday life.
- 40:22And it's indicative of the two Americas.
- 40:26When when when people talk about the two Americas, I think those teenage movies
- 40:30back in the day illustrate perfectly the two Americas.
- 40:34Because this is what the black inner city youth was dealing with versus the
- 40:40white youth who their worries were a whole lot different.
- 40:45So when I think of Cooley High and I think of those older movies like that,
- 40:49I like to think of just the contrast. And this is a slice of American life.
- 40:57When you when you when you look at it from and not not a not a diss on Greece.
- 41:02I mean, it's one of the few musicals that I can't tolerate. I hate musicals.
- 41:08Outsiders is a good movie, but you look at what they were going through and
- 41:12the Outsiders is kind of violent. You know, they have some stuff to deal with.
- 41:16But when you when you look at what they were going to compare it to what the
- 41:19black inner city youth were going through at that time.
- 41:23Like I said, it's just indicative of the two Americas that we grew up in and
- 41:28and probably still relatable today. Absolutely.
- 41:33And obviously the movie was as heartbreaking as it was.
- 41:37It gave us some of the funniest scenes, like Preach claiming to be a vegetarian
- 41:42while holding a hot dog, taking Brenda to the zoo like he was taking her to
- 41:49some upscale five-star restaurant.
- 41:51Wait, don't forget about Pooter at the zoo. Oh, yeah.
- 41:57Messing with the eight. At that gorilla? Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:01Yeah. Classic scene. the scene in the restaurant with Martha Stone and Robert
- 42:09was trying to get him Martha just this one time Martha Martha please Martha.
- 42:19Man yeah hey to bring this back full circle spoiler alert for those who haven't seen it,
- 42:30if Preach had extended grace to Cochise.
- 42:37Perhaps Cochise wouldn't die in the end.
- 42:40Just a thought. Just a thought. You know what I'm saying? Perhaps he would have
- 42:44been there to help his boy out.
- 42:46Yep. He wouldn't have been by himself. He wouldn't have been by himself.
- 42:50Three on two way better than three on one. That's right. That's right.
- 42:54At least you got a fighting chance. Absolutely.
- 42:56Man, man, man, man. So let's go ahead and break this thing.
- 43:03I mean, I guess I kind of gave my feelings away at the beginning when I called
- 43:07it a classic, but I'm in the same boat. It's a classic to me.
- 43:11I mean, I can't speak for you, but I know you've probably seen it more than a dozen times.
- 43:16Oh, for sure. I know I've seen it probably 13, 14 times just as a kid,
- 43:22just watching it over and over again, having it on VHS.
- 43:25And then I think it would come on it would come on all the time on regular TV,
- 43:32at least once or twice a year.
- 43:34Yeah, absolutely. It would be the ABC Saturday Night movie. Uh-huh. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:40Just a whole different time when we were growing up, man. What happened to all of that kind of stuff?
- 43:45It just ain't the same no more. It ain't the same. So anyway,
- 43:49I give Kuliha two high fives.
- 43:54I'm right there with you. Sounds good. All right.
- 44:01We're also going to add another segment to the podcast, and we're just going
- 44:07to have like some closing thoughts, a closing monologue.
- 44:12So, brother, if you want to take it away.
- 44:15Appreciate it. So I want to speak about something going on on the other side of the world.
- 44:19It's not what you guys may think that you see in the news every day and what
- 44:23a lot of us are disgusted by.
- 44:25This is something going on in a different part of the world, a little bit south.
- 44:30So in the Sudan, currently there is a genocide unfolding.
- 44:35Over 10,000 people from the Masalat and other non-Arab communities have been slaughtered by the RSF.
- 44:42RSF is a paramilitary force with ties to the Janjaweed militias of the past.
- 44:48If you're not familiar with the Janjaweed, please go and look up the documentary,
- 44:52The Devil Came on Horseback.
- 44:54It will tell you anything that you need to know about them.
- 44:57Families are being wiped out, women and children targeted, and famine is being used as a weapon.
- 45:02This isn't history. It's happening right now. The world must stop looking away.
- 45:08Silence is complicity and lives are hanging in the balance.
- 45:13All right. You know, it's I'm going to add a little bit to this. That was great.
- 45:20Always when it comes to foreign policy and when I say we, America,
- 45:24American media, we always focus on all of the atrocities going on elsewhere in the world.
- 45:32And we never, ever give just due to the atrocities that take place all across the continent.
- 45:41I mean, any day of the week, you can damn near look up some type of genocide, some type of warlord,
- 45:49some type of civil war that's going on in Africa, and they never get the attention that they deserve.
- 45:57And this is not to say that it's a continent full of savages.
- 46:01I rebuke that because every continent, every country has disputes.
- 46:07So this isn't to say that but
- 46:10yes thank you brother for bringing some attention to this
- 46:14issue thank you i appreciate that
- 46:17so much so uh anything else uh you want to want to add for today no i think
- 46:24that's it i think we pretty much covered everything we wanted to cover today
- 46:28all right cool cool cool it's good good rapping with you brother it's sir very
- 46:34good conversation I believe we had today.
- 46:37We want to take this time to thank everyone for listening and hanging out with us. Please tune in.
- 46:45We got some interesting topics coming up going forward.
- 46:50We got some interesting topics going forward where we're going to get into some
- 46:55vaccine discussions. We're going to get into some discussions about how do we assign value.
- 47:02And we're going to eventually get into a topic of is Hollywood still racist
- 47:06so again just some things to look out for.
- 47:11We uh thank you guys always for your time got anything there brother nah you
- 47:17covered it all like I said we appreciate it all right cool cool cool well this
