Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / Emergency ITB: What Now For Eagles After Losing Jaelen Phillips, Nakobe Dean In Free Agency?
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on?
- 0:14Speaker 2: It's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan. That's right, we're back
- 0:17Speaker 2: here on Inside the Birds. But day one of the
- 0:20Speaker 2: negotiating periods in the books, a lot of people have
- 0:23Speaker 2: signed and Adam. Two Philadelphia Eagles are not back, one
- 0:27Speaker 2: of them being Jalen Phillips. Who oh my, For the
- 0:31Speaker 2: second straight year a team just blows a guy out
- 0:35Speaker 2: of the water with a huge contract. Last year is
- 0:38Speaker 2: Milton Williams. This year, the Carolina Panthers get Jalen Phillips
- 0:43Speaker 2: for what's going to be a thirty million a year contract.
- 0:46Speaker 2: We'll see, we'll see when everything comes down.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But a lot of money.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Oh yeah, here's here's what this is what I think
- 0:54Speaker 3: is based on the reality of what happened to them
- 0:56Speaker 3: with Milt Williams last year. Carolina was not losing Allen.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Jalen Phipps. I know how badly Eagles want in the back.
- 1:01Speaker 3: They know that he wanted to be back there. But
- 1:03Speaker 3: if you're Jalen Phillips, if it's you, I'm sure it'll
- 1:06Speaker 3: be at least two years fully guaranteed. I'm sure at
- 1:08Speaker 3: least sixty millions fully guaranteed it's signing. Yeah not probably
- 1:11Speaker 3: eighty or ninety we'll see. But he had leverage, get
- 1:13Speaker 3: tremendous leverage, and there's just no way that it's a
- 1:17Speaker 3: massive overpay. Great job by his agent, but that's just
- 1:20Speaker 3: a massive overpay. He's not worth it. He's a good player.
- 1:22Speaker 3: He's me in today's NFL where the numbers are somewhere
- 1:26Speaker 3: around twenty three to twenty five million, and that's just
- 1:29Speaker 3: it's just a thirty million. It's insane, Like that's just insane.
- 1:32Speaker 3: But you know what, it's all it's good for the
- 1:35Speaker 3: players because now, if you're Tray Hendrickson, how in the world.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I only still as as we speak here, he's still available,
- 1:43Speaker 3: may not be in five minutes, but how do you
- 1:45Speaker 3: take less than thirty million for the season if you're Hendrickson,
- 1:48Speaker 3: it's a much better player. I know he's older, I
- 1:50Speaker 3: understand that, but he's proved way more proven player and
- 1:54Speaker 3: it's Jalen Phillips. But hey, good for him and the
- 1:56Speaker 3: Eagles have a hole.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Now, yeah, the Eagles have a whole. I agree with you.
- 2:00Speaker 1: That's a great point.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I forgot the Panthers were the team that was first
- 2:03Speaker 2: linked to Milton Williams. Last year there was a report
- 2:06Speaker 2: that they were finalizing a deal with him, and then
- 2:09Speaker 2: the Patriots swooped in with money that was just unbelievable.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Twenty six million. Looks.
- 2:14Speaker 2: We said this, and I think Day one proved it
- 2:17Speaker 2: all right. The teams you gotta worry about in free
- 2:20Speaker 2: agency are the teams that have quarterbacks on rookie deals
- 2:24Speaker 2: that like their quarterback because then they have so much
- 2:27Speaker 2: more money to spend in free agency. And so you
- 2:30Speaker 2: saw the Raiders They're gonna have a quarterback on a
- 2:32Speaker 2: rookie deal.
- 2:33Speaker 1: They spent a.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Ton of money on Linderbaum and Jalen Naylor. The Commanders
- 2:37Speaker 2: wound up signing was it a Mafey or Oway? They
- 2:40Speaker 2: signed one of those guys for a decent amount of money.
- 2:42Speaker 2: They still have Jaden Daniels on their rookie deal. So yeah,
- 2:47Speaker 2: I mean, those are the teams that are out there
- 2:48Speaker 2: just spending a lot of money. And it's hard because
- 2:51Speaker 2: the Eagles and Howie have never wanted to overpay. They've
- 2:55Speaker 2: i had walkaway numbers. They want to do good business.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So here's where they're in a little bit of quant though.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Adam right, you just you just pointed it out. They
- 3:03Speaker 2: need edge rushers. Okay, they're the well is starting to
- 3:08Speaker 2: dry up.
- 3:08Speaker 1: They clearly.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I mean, if you shot up Roseman with truth serum,
- 3:12Speaker 2: I don't think he wants to sign a big name
- 3:15Speaker 2: free agent because then he wouldn't get per Se, the
- 3:18Speaker 2: third round pick that'll probably get for losing Jill and Phillips.
- 3:22Speaker 2: So he may have to explore the trade market. But
- 3:24Speaker 2: if you do that, you're giving up a pick anyway.
- 3:27Speaker 2: So why don't you go maybe try to go after
- 3:29Speaker 2: trade well.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I'm in what you can do when you can do it,
- 3:31Speaker 3: it doesn't cost you compenserate pick. Ause you could sign
- 3:33Speaker 3: Bradley Chubb, who knows the system. He does he's to
- 3:37Speaker 3: me and people know, Okay, who's out there, Bradley Chubb.
- 3:40Speaker 3: You know it's the system. Yes, he's had an injury history,
- 3:43Speaker 3: but guys still could flay football. They just they were
- 3:45Speaker 3: they were visceraating the roster in Miami that it was over,
- 3:48Speaker 3: like they were going to destroy the roster. Their total rebuilds.
- 3:50Speaker 3: They want to go younger. But yeah, so if you
- 3:53Speaker 3: look at the edge group, now, Cam Jordan, who's good,
- 3:57Speaker 3: probably gonna be Hall of fame player close to it Hendrickson,
- 4:00Speaker 3: it's going to cost a lot. But he's older, turns
- 4:04Speaker 3: thirty two in December. The son Reddick, don't see that happening,
- 4:08Speaker 3: Joy Bosa, you know about the injury, History's older player.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Chasing's a nice play young player who he's looking to
- 4:18Speaker 3: get paid.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 3: We've talked about Ebakhetty before. Yeah, and then John Grenard
- 4:24Speaker 3: is that that one. He's a plug and play guy,
- 4:28Speaker 3: thirty for front player, just played in it. You come
- 4:32Speaker 3: right in, but you know you have to give up
- 4:33Speaker 3: conversation to get him. Now. The question is because his
- 4:37Speaker 3: deal now looks undervalued with Minnesota, he probably deserves it
- 4:42Speaker 3: to get an increase. He's only making I say, only
- 4:45Speaker 3: nineteen million per season. Now he did sign two years ago. Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 3: I exactly two years ago, March of twenty four. Yep.
- 4:53Speaker 3: And yeah, the cash number he's got two years left
- 4:55Speaker 3: on his deal nineteen million, Yeah, nineteen million per season
- 4:59Speaker 3: total cash. Yeah, he's gonna want more money. I don't
- 5:02Speaker 3: blame him, but he's a good player, high character, been
- 5:06Speaker 3: a great story of development. But other than that, guys,
- 5:09Speaker 3: we'd pretty much mention everybody that's worth it. I mean
- 5:11Speaker 3: they're mid level guys out there, like Malcolm Koontz and
- 5:18Speaker 3: Ebukam who's formerly of the Colts and the Rams. Josai
- 5:23Speaker 3: actually signed already. I'm looking at my file, got update
- 5:25Speaker 3: that he's signed a free agent Deal's the journeyman like
- 5:27Speaker 3: Leonard Floyd gets you out of tough spot for a year,
- 5:30Speaker 3: so the young player's done. Like it's like, if you
- 5:31Speaker 3: sign job, you fit. You hope you can get two
- 5:35Speaker 3: years out of him. But the bottom line is it's
- 5:37Speaker 3: either you go for the guys we just talked about.
- 5:40Speaker 3: If you want to solid for at least one year,
- 5:42Speaker 3: we're drafting somebody high. Simple Yeah.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, And honestly, now it's up to Jaylex Hunt to
- 5:47Speaker 2: take a big step up because even if they were
- 5:49Speaker 2: to trade for Grenard, who's a very good pass rusher,
- 5:51Speaker 2: he's a speed pass rusher. He's not the type of
- 5:54Speaker 2: speed slash power edge that Jalen Phillips was, which is
- 5:59Speaker 2: what made Jillen a really great fit. I almost think
- 6:02Speaker 2: from a fit standpoint, you were right to point out
- 6:04Speaker 2: Bradley Chubb because it's a bigger guy. Yeah, he's also
- 6:07Speaker 2: a guy who's probably on the downside.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I mean, he's had some good years. He's I don't
- 6:12Speaker 1: know that. I don't know what's even price tag is.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I mean, he could have signed by now, but obviously
- 6:16Speaker 2: he probably wanted to see how the market was going
- 6:18Speaker 2: to be. He and his agent before they signed early.
- 6:21Speaker 2: They could have signed even before for because he was cut.
- 6:23Speaker 2: He could have signed it at any time.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yeah, he's yeah. As a matter of fact, he is. Uh,
- 6:28Speaker 3: he turns thirty.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah, he did.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Look, it's with Bradley Chubb. Last season. It wasn't like
- 6:34Speaker 3: he played poorly. It's like you have a new GM
- 6:37Speaker 3: a't in draft him.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yep.
- 6:38Speaker 3: They typically want their own guys. He's an older player,
- 6:41Speaker 3: He's had a lot of injuries in his career. But yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 3: he could still play, no question about it. And to me,
- 6:48Speaker 3: he makes a ton of sense if they strike out
- 6:50Speaker 3: everywhere elsewhere else. He absolutely is good for getting you
- 6:53Speaker 3: out of a tough spot. And by the way, he
- 6:55Speaker 3: didn't miss a game last season.
- 6:57Speaker 1: How about that, right coming off an ACL Correct.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Yeah, well he didn't play it, he didn't. Correct, he
- 7:02Speaker 3: didn't play in twenty four He played every game, eight
- 7:05Speaker 3: f sacks, twenty quarterback hits. Had a good season. A
- 7:10Speaker 3: guy could still play. But again, gms, you're talking to
- 7:14Speaker 3: gms over the years, they typically want their own guys
- 7:15Speaker 3: when when they're turning over a new roster, you want
- 7:18Speaker 3: to get younger.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I actually kind of thought as soon as they lost
- 7:23Speaker 2: Jail and Phillips, we were going to see about ten
- 7:24Speaker 2: minutes later the Eagles signing Bradley Chubb. But we'll see,
- 7:28Speaker 2: we'll see, because now, well, how.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Old you say Choebu was thirty?
- 7:31Speaker 3: He turns thirty in June.
- 7:32Speaker 1: It's not turn thirty, okay. So he did actually have
- 7:34Speaker 1: a pretty good market.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And that's the thing that the Eagles are fighting is
- 7:38Speaker 2: that there's a lot of teams that want pass rushers,
- 7:41Speaker 2: a lot of teams with money to spend, a lot
- 7:43Speaker 2: of teams with quarterbacks that they like that are that
- 7:45Speaker 2: are on rookie deals. So that's what they'll have to
- 7:48Speaker 2: contend with. But it's it's it's a serious thing for
- 7:51Speaker 2: the Eagles. They pride themselves on their defensive front, on
- 7:54Speaker 2: their edge group, and they are about as thin as
- 7:57Speaker 2: thin can be because as we record this, with them
- 7:59Speaker 2: not making any moves unless they do while we record it,
- 8:02Speaker 2: they've basically got j Alex Hunt Jose Ramirez and.
- 8:07Speaker 1: H who do we say is the other guy under contract? Oh,
- 8:10Speaker 1: Nolan Smith. That's it. That's it. That's all I got.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Uh real quick, I don't believe Bradley Chubb is I
- 8:17Speaker 3: don't think for the cap purposes that they could release him.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Now I'm gonna double check this. I don't know that
- 8:21Speaker 3: because I thought that he had not been because I
- 8:24Speaker 3: look at the you know, I get the transaction report
- 8:26Speaker 3: every day from the NFL, and I don't have not
- 8:28Speaker 3: seen him.
- 8:28Speaker 1: On it yet. Oh, I thought he was released a
- 8:30Speaker 1: while back.
- 8:32Speaker 3: No, they they told him he was going to be released.
- 8:34Speaker 3: I in fact, he's still on the team website. Said,
- 8:36Speaker 3: look right now, he's on the team website.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Well that would be smart.
- 8:41Speaker 2: What's that That would be a smart move of the
- 8:43Speaker 2: Dolphins to have not officially released him, right.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Well, no, but no, it's not that anyone would trade
- 8:49Speaker 3: for him. It's just for cat purposes. You have to
- 8:50Speaker 3: hold his depending on structure. I know there are a
- 8:54Speaker 3: lot like I'll give you an example. This is really
- 8:55Speaker 3: old and this this is the first time I've ever
- 8:57Speaker 3: seen it. Immy awesome walk could not be cut for
- 9:00Speaker 3: purposes until the start of the new league year. And
- 9:03Speaker 3: I'm guessing that's why Chubb I thought, because I was like,
- 9:07Speaker 3: you know, what if he's been released, because I don't
- 9:08Speaker 3: remember it. I just know they told him and had
- 9:10Speaker 3: been reported he's going to be released, Okay, but he
- 9:13Speaker 3: hadn't been and he's still as of now Tuesday evening,
- 9:16Speaker 3: still on their team website.
- 9:18Speaker 2: So you're saying this would not be like a Rashaun
- 9:20Speaker 2: Gary situation, where now that the market's welled up a
- 9:23Speaker 2: little bit, somebody wouldn't want to fork over a day
- 9:25Speaker 2: three for him that that is.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Had he I don't let me see if I could
- 9:30Speaker 3: find his contract, see if I have.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Oh, it's because they probably owe him a certain amount
- 9:33Speaker 2: of money on a day is out, is it?
- 9:36Speaker 3: Uh? Well no, no, what it is you just have for
- 9:38Speaker 3: cap purposes you have to whether it's I don't know
- 9:40Speaker 3: how they're doing it. I just know it might be
- 9:42Speaker 3: post June one. Yeah. I don't think, in fact, I
- 9:45Speaker 3: don't think they've released him yet. Yeah. I don't think
- 9:49Speaker 3: that he's an enormous amount of money for twenty twenty six.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Uh just onder nineteen and that's just on a twenty
- 9:55Speaker 3: million Yeah, So yeah, he obviously he's going to be
- 9:59Speaker 3: cut anyway, it's not being no one's taking that contract.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's true. Good point.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Okay, So he'll be cut and then we'll see what
- 10:05Speaker 2: happens after that. But clearly the Eagles need to do something.
- 10:09Speaker 2: They want to pivot here, and I don't know no
- 10:12Speaker 2: matter what they unless they well I don't want to
- 10:15Speaker 2: make any statements because you just don't know what they're
- 10:17Speaker 2: gonna do. But I would say it'll be hard to
- 10:19Speaker 2: find as someone is as good as what Jalen Phillis
- 10:23Speaker 2: was bringing them, knowing the scheme, the size that he brought,
- 10:27Speaker 2: the two way nature. I mean, those guys are really
- 10:29Speaker 2: good and they're now employed for somebody else for a reason.
- 10:33Speaker 2: So how he's got his work cut out from in
- 10:34Speaker 2: that regard.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Yeah, look understand some there's just the Eagles. How he
- 10:39Speaker 3: did absolutely the right thing. You don't This is like
- 10:43Speaker 3: Byron Jones. They went to the limit, like they actually
- 10:46Speaker 3: if this is six years ago, I cannot believe, right,
- 10:48Speaker 3: I think they actually their offer was either over market
- 10:52Speaker 3: again this is I believe they actually offered more than
- 10:54Speaker 3: Oakland and Miami. But what happened was they he just
- 10:59Speaker 3: wanted he didn't wan to be out east. You know,
- 11:00Speaker 3: he's from Connectu and went to Yukon. Yeah, but getting
- 11:03Speaker 3: back so he have to be did You can't because
- 11:05Speaker 3: how he said at the combine, if we go and
- 11:09Speaker 3: spend more money here, we have to do something here.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Meet to release a player. Don't resign a player. You
- 11:13Speaker 3: just can't do it. And now they've got that money
- 11:15Speaker 3: freed up that went to Phillips, So they're a line
- 11:18Speaker 3: here to make a nice move and free agency here,
- 11:21Speaker 3: whether it's trade, sign someone is out there, that's as
- 11:25Speaker 3: simple as that.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Yeah, Now you just have to wonder about the signing.
- 11:28Speaker 2: If Howie's really keen on holding on to that comp
- 11:32Speaker 2: pick thinking that he'll get a third rounder, then you
- 11:34Speaker 2: don't want to cancel it out.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So you got to be a little bit careful.
- 11:37Speaker 2: But like I, like I was saying before, if you're
- 11:39Speaker 2: gonna trade for a guy, right, you're if you're gonna
- 11:42Speaker 2: trade for grend or something, you're probably gonna give up
- 11:45Speaker 2: a similar type of pick. So you're gonna wind up
- 11:48Speaker 2: giving up a pick anyway. So if there's a guy
- 11:50Speaker 2: out there that's a free agent and worth it and
- 11:53Speaker 2: wants to come play for you, then you might as
- 11:55Speaker 2: well pay the money and cancel it out, because one
- 11:58Speaker 2: way or another, you're gonna have to give up pick
- 12:00Speaker 2: either the cop or you're making a trade.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look how he's done that before. Other
- 12:03Speaker 3: gms have done that where they just said, you know what,
- 12:05Speaker 3: I don't want to lose his pick, Let's wait till
- 12:07Speaker 3: let's wait till May when it doesn't count for the
- 12:10Speaker 3: formula for unrestricted free agents. Two things that don't count. Well,
- 12:15Speaker 3: the big one is obviously you could sign any released player,
- 12:17Speaker 3: they don't count. To the former. You can pay one
- 12:18Speaker 3: hundred million, doesn't matter, doesn't count towards it. So once
- 12:22Speaker 3: Chubb gets cut, we'll see. Well, obviously they can't do
- 12:26Speaker 3: it till four pm Easter on Wednesday for CAP purposes.
- 12:29Speaker 3: So it's you gotta have to work it out with
- 12:33Speaker 3: his agent. Hey, we went in or you know, you
- 12:36Speaker 3: call Robert Zinski, the CAP guy. I'm sure they've been
- 12:38Speaker 3: in touch. How he need leave no stone on turn
- 12:41Speaker 3: gms tell us when they talk to him. If the
- 12:44Speaker 3: guy becomes available, they're calling. So, especially in this case,
- 12:49Speaker 3: they had to have a contingtionally contingency plan. They didn't go.
- 12:52Speaker 3: They didn't Mafey got a he got a really good deal.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I think it was was it Oway or Mafey got
- 12:57Speaker 3: four for a hundred?
- 12:58Speaker 1: I forget that was Oway. Well, they both got really
- 13:01Speaker 1: good deals. But I think Owas got the four for
- 13:03Speaker 1: one hundred that was.
- 13:06Speaker 3: What's that?
- 13:07Speaker 1: That was the Commander's one.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I think.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Boy, mafe no no got I think we got the
- 13:13Speaker 2: one hundred million from the Commanders.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but how about the bet, Well, Mafy went
- 13:17Speaker 3: to the Bengals of all teams.
- 13:19Speaker 1: That's right.
- 13:20Speaker 3: See see here's another thing. Not the Eagles are in
- 13:22Speaker 3: this place. They're not, They'll never be. But the Bengals
- 13:25Speaker 3: are low cash spend team. They have to over a
- 13:29Speaker 3: period of years, they have to least spend they have
- 13:32Speaker 3: to get it might be eighty percent real in cash,
- 13:35Speaker 3: not cap. I don't have it in front of me.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I know the old rule. I don't have the new rule,
- 13:38Speaker 3: the adjusted rule in front of me. But they're a
- 13:40Speaker 3: low cash bend team. They got to start spending. So
- 13:43Speaker 3: if that makes sense. And yeah, and then you saw
- 13:45Speaker 3: what the Commandos did. They had a lot, They had
- 13:48Speaker 3: a lot of players, you know, they they're a lot
- 13:50Speaker 3: of players expiring contracts, Giants are very aggressive, staying in
- 13:53Speaker 3: the division before you get out of here. M They
- 13:55Speaker 3: were very aggressive day one, which was expected. Yep. I
- 14:00Speaker 3: cannot wait to see what the odds makers do on
- 14:01Speaker 3: their their over under total. I'm gonna, without looking, I
- 14:04Speaker 3: would guess nine and a half.
- 14:07Speaker 1: To the Giants nine and a half.
- 14:09Speaker 3: I know, I know, I know. Wow, it's horrible. You know,
- 14:14Speaker 3: sometimes they go crazy with these things. They I was wrong.
- 14:17Speaker 3: They had Jim Jim Harble eight and a half over under.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I thought it would be go under and what over first?
- 14:22Speaker 3: Ye same with Rabel. I thought, no way with that
- 14:24Speaker 3: garbage roster.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I was thinking, but okay, what's that? I was thinking
- 14:31Speaker 4: seven and a half. No, I gotta go oh that.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I mean they're gonna get Scataboo back. Yeah, the guy,
- 14:37Speaker 4: the luminer back.
- 14:39Speaker 3: We need to play garter right tackle. Yep. Uh they
- 14:44Speaker 3: one neighbors would come off the a cil and obviously yes,
- 14:46Speaker 3: they have to see how he looks. Yep, I'm seeing.
- 14:49Speaker 4: What Oh oh Isaiah likely, I love that moved move.
- 14:53Speaker 3: And remember now Matt Naggy is more eleven personnel. He's
- 14:58Speaker 3: a big spread guy. But now they got an athletic
- 15:02Speaker 3: tight ending team with yeah, Nags, Nags, Andy.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Reid twelve because Andy Andy plaid a lot of twelve personnel, not.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Ton of eleven when he was with the Bears. When
- 15:14Speaker 3: Noggi was the head coach of the Bears.
- 15:15Speaker 1: He did, didn't they. I just.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Talked to John about that when he was with him.
- 15:21Speaker 3: They saw that was with Darnell Mooney and I don't
- 15:23Speaker 3: have the list of players they had. But but the
- 15:26Speaker 3: good thing is they can do either because mister blocking
- 15:29Speaker 3: tight end, mister why tight end, Chris Manherts is back. Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Plus they got the.
- 15:36Speaker 3: You know, hopefully does better. And they need more help
- 15:38Speaker 3: at receiver. They're not clearly not done. It's Neighbors, it's Slayton.
- 15:42Speaker 3: They need more help there. Oh yeah, they need a
- 15:45Speaker 3: little bit of help in the middle of their offensive
- 15:46Speaker 3: line is always a problem though. That's that's where the
- 15:49Speaker 3: Eagles are always going to be better. Yes, we know
- 15:50Speaker 3: they were injured last season. Hopefully that they're getting off
- 15:53Speaker 3: their feet, but you know, overall, it's still the Eagles
- 15:58Speaker 3: now are still the class as we speak now. Obviously
- 16:01Speaker 3: things are going to change significantly to the draft of
- 16:04Speaker 3: free agency going forward. Yep, But I know fans are
- 16:07Speaker 3: gonna frat. It's not like how he doesn't know what
- 16:09Speaker 3: they need. Of course he does. He is the needs
- 16:11Speaker 3: board in his office. It's not a secret, and he's
- 16:14Speaker 3: he he knows. You don't watch. No, we know they know.
- 16:17Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's but we always say, don't panic.
- 16:20Speaker 3: They've got a plan. Every team has a plan. And
- 16:23Speaker 3: it's not like, oh, it's it's uh Jaylen Phillips or bust.
- 16:28Speaker 3: We can't sign anybody who trade a friend. Of course
- 16:30Speaker 3: they know this. You know they'll get it now. But
- 16:33Speaker 3: they didn't get them. But they they You can't go
- 16:35Speaker 3: for you can't go for thirty million years. I'm just sorry.
- 16:37Speaker 3: That's ridiculous.

- 18:31Speaker 2: World Report. Right now, our listeners can get fifty percent
- 18:34Speaker 2: off their new simply Safe system at simplysafe dot com
- 18:38Speaker 2: slash birds. That's simply safe dot com slash birds. There's
- 18:41Speaker 2: no safe like simply safe.
- 18:43Speaker 1: All right. While in the middle of this podcast, we
- 18:46Speaker 1: have breaking news, so I wanted to make sure we
- 18:48Speaker 1: get this in since this is our emergency pod.
- 18:50Speaker 2: The Eagles have lost another free agent, and it is
- 18:52Speaker 2: every It's not every Eagles worst nightmare, but they do
- 18:56Speaker 2: lose to Kobe d not to the Cowboys, but to
- 18:58Speaker 2: the Raiders on a three year deal. Co Mike McCartney,
- 19:00Speaker 2: that's his agent. So, uh, Nikobe Dean going to the Raiders. Now,
- 19:05Speaker 2: the Raiders have a couple of guys who used to
- 19:07Speaker 2: be with the Eagles in their front office, so you
- 19:09Speaker 2: always connect dots there.
- 19:11Speaker 1: They know Nikobe, they know what kind of tone center
- 19:13Speaker 1: he is.
- 19:13Speaker 2: No culture changer he is, but that is yet another
- 19:16Speaker 2: big loss for the Eagles.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Well we expected it. Uh. Now we get the confirmation
- 19:21Speaker 3: John Campbell will start and they they spent early and
- 19:24Speaker 3: they that Linnenbaum destroying the market, Jalen Naire, Jalen Naylor
- 19:28Speaker 3: who they're paying him starting money at wide receiver Quinny
- 19:32Speaker 3: pay was an okay edge. John Johnson, who was supposed
- 19:36Speaker 3: to be cut, was traded for even the Bills announced
- 19:39Speaker 3: that they were releasing. That's I've never heard that before.
- 19:43Speaker 1: No, very weird.
- 19:45Speaker 3: That was that was really interesting. Chefter and I aren't
- 19:48Speaker 3: working together anymore, but we had the famous, the infamous
- 19:50Speaker 3: Frank core story. He's telling people to retweet it so
- 19:56Speaker 3: I could retweet it. We always get a laugh out
- 19:57Speaker 3: of that. But I know how it hurts. I get
- 20:00Speaker 3: the Dean stuff. I get it. But it's John Campbell time. See,
- 20:04Speaker 3: we get the answer. Now it's Johd Campbell. What we
- 20:07Speaker 3: were expecting. Yep, you got Mike McCartney, by the way,
- 20:10Speaker 3: for people don't know that. Most people actually don't know
- 20:11Speaker 3: this the son of the late great Bill McCartney from
- 20:15Speaker 3: a head coach of Colorado. But there's the interesting part.
- 20:18Speaker 3: He was the Eagles former pro personnel director in the
- 20:22Speaker 3: late nineties under Tom Modrak. He was the guy would
- 20:26Speaker 3: knock on the door in training camp and say, hey,
- 20:29Speaker 3: we need your play, but coach wants to see you.
- 20:30Speaker 3: How about that?
- 20:31Speaker 1: How about that?
- 20:32Speaker 3: Isn't that crazy?
- 20:33Speaker 1: That is? That is all right?
- 20:36Speaker 2: By the way, NFL media reporting three years thirty six
- 20:39Speaker 2: million for Nikobe twenty million guaranteed. That's actually better than
- 20:43Speaker 2: I thought he would do because of his injury history.
- 20:45Speaker 2: So that is that's good.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Twenty million years. And again, their cash, their team, that's
- 20:49Speaker 3: got to start spending cash, yep, their cash. Ben Well,
- 20:53Speaker 3: it's funny. They're paying a lot of former coaches, a
- 20:56Speaker 3: lot of funny, but that doesn't count. Yeah, there's no
- 20:59Speaker 3: coaching salary cap. But they're spending. Anthony Patches there right,
- 21:02Speaker 3: used to work for the Eagles, any.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Patch, and Brandon Hunt is there and John.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, oh my god, it's Eagles West eagless man. But yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 3: it's so all right. So what do we know now
- 21:14Speaker 3: Phillips is gone. They're still looking for an edge. They're
- 21:16Speaker 3: in the edge market with a trader signed yep. Uh.
- 21:19Speaker 3: So they've lost today, they lost, well, they they lost Phillips. Yep.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Johan Dottson signed with the is gonna sign with the Falcons?
- 21:26Speaker 3: Ten did I was that ten millions?
- 21:28Speaker 1: I don't know what the.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Falcons were doing, Like, I don't know you're competing against.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I thought, I thought. I thought h Terry Fonteau was
- 21:36Speaker 3: crazy with some of the deals that he did. Obviously
- 21:38Speaker 3: to the Penis trade, they're gonna they're gonna bring two
- 21:41Speaker 3: wins for competition, but my ten million for an average
- 21:45Speaker 3: This is free asy, folks, this is what we hilarious.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Hey, get this in the spirit of awesome free agency
- 21:52Speaker 2: breaking news or contract, the Phillies and Lozardo come to
- 21:56Speaker 2: an agreement here in the middle of the s But.
- 21:59Speaker 3: He is, well, he had one of the all time
- 22:02Speaker 3: incredible games. He was it the first inning, No from
- 22:07Speaker 3: we a perfect game for innings two or nine last.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Year, right two through nine. Yep is that it was unbelievable.
- 22:14Speaker 1: It was great.
- 22:14Speaker 3: He is you know, he led the majors.
- 22:16Speaker 2: He was tied for the major league lead with twenty
- 22:18Speaker 2: two quality starts and third in strikeouts. If you took
- 22:21Speaker 2: those two bad tipping pitches outings away right up there
- 22:25Speaker 2: at Sion Award with anybody else.
- 22:27Speaker 3: So yeah, I as Philadelphia team.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Is keeping a keeping one of their cords.
- 22:33Speaker 3: That's a good story. Yeah, that's a good story. But anyway,
- 22:35Speaker 3: so folks, it's day one. Relaxed, just make a deep breath.
- 22:38Speaker 3: What does Aaron Rodgers say, are e l ax?
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, We've still got a lot of time left,
- 22:45Speaker 2: and then we'll see what happens with of course Dallas
- 22:47Speaker 2: Goddard and read Blanket Ship, assuming that nothing happens for
- 22:50Speaker 2: them by the time it takes me to get this
- 22:51Speaker 2: podcast up. That'll do it, adition, this Emergency Eagles ITV
- 22:56Speaker 2: pod and uh we'll catch you all on the exuent
