Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: And the kraken a power.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Play goal welcome to the kraken post game show powered
- 0:05Speaker 2: by the iheart radio app where you can hear the
- 0:08Speaker 2: kraken anytime anywhere now for an in-depth look at tonight's
- 0:12Speaker 2: kraken game it's the kraken post game on the global
- 0:16Speaker 2: credit union kraken audio network.
- 0:19Speaker 3: We're back inside of Climate Pledge Arena. Everett Fitzhugh, Big
- 0:24Speaker 3: Al Kaniski, alongside a 5-3 win for Seattle over the
- 0:29Speaker 3: Utah Mammoth. It was a 3-1 Kraken lead going into
- 0:33Speaker 3: period three.
- 0:34Speaker 1: The Mammoth get two goals.
- 0:35Speaker 3: They had three, but one of them got called back.
- 0:38Speaker 3: You just heard Jordan Eberle talk a little bit about
- 0:41Speaker 3: playing with the lead. Not so much the third periods overall,
- 0:44Speaker 3: but just in general. When you have a lead, when
- 0:47Speaker 3: you go ahead, stay ahead. The Kraken have been battling
- 0:51Speaker 3: that part of the game as of late, but back-to-back
- 0:54Speaker 3: games in which they blow the lead but get the
- 0:56Speaker 3: full two points.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think what he's talking about there is
- 0:58Speaker 4: that there are definitely points in the game, whether it's
- 1:00Speaker 4: the first shift of the first period or late in
- 1:02Speaker 4: the third period, if you get a goal on that
- 1:04Speaker 4: first shift of the first period, you're playing with a lead.
- 1:07Speaker 4: And you've got to learn to add to that, keep
- 1:10Speaker 4: the foot on the gas mentality. Yes, the other team's
- 1:12Speaker 4: going to have pushes, but you can't just spend an
- 1:15Speaker 4: entire period defending that push at some point you've got
- 1:18Speaker 4: to push back, and it took a while in that
- 1:20Speaker 4: third period for Seattle to start to push back. It
- 1:22Speaker 4: started with a goal that was called back, but ultimately,
- 1:25Speaker 4: Mackie Samuskiewicz getting that game-winning goal late in that third
- 1:28Speaker 4: period where they hadn't had a shot on goal, or
- 1:31Speaker 4: at least maybe not many up until that point. I
- 1:33Speaker 4: think actually all the shots that they got in that
- 1:36Speaker 4: series started on that play. There was a zero, and
- 1:39Speaker 4: then all of a sudden they had three on the clock,
- 1:40Speaker 4: so pushing back a little sooner, trying to get to
- 1:44Speaker 4: add to that lead.
- 1:44Speaker 5: I think it's what he's talking about.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Kraken were outshot 14 to four in the third, 28
- 1:49Speaker 3: to nine, 28 to 15 rather in the final 40 minutes.
- 1:55Speaker 3: And again, if you're Seattle, you get the win. The
- 1:59Speaker 3: trend recently, especially in the third period, you allow two
- 2:03Speaker 3: more goals tonight in the third period.
- 2:05Speaker 1: You allow three in the third period.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I mean, You heard Jordan Eberle talk about it, not
- 2:11Speaker 3: so much in terms of holding the lead, but for you,
- 2:14Speaker 3: allowing goals in the third period.
- 2:17Speaker 1: How much of a concern is that for you?
- 2:19Speaker 5: Listen, it's a concern.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Whether or not you're going to say it on a
- 2:22Speaker 4: hot mic or not, I don't know, but giving up
- 2:25Speaker 4: goals late in the game when you've got a lead,
- 2:28Speaker 4: everybody talks about protecting a lead. There's lots of ways
- 2:31Speaker 4: to protect it. I think the way that most people
- 2:33Speaker 4: would say you don't want to protect it is sitting
- 2:35Speaker 4: on your heels. You've got to find a way to attack,
- 2:37Speaker 4: but You and I were talking off air, and I
- 2:39Speaker 4: like to simplify things sometimes. But, you know, in a
- 2:41Speaker 4: boxing match, when somebody's coming at you throwing haymakers, they're attacking.
- 2:45Speaker 4: They're pushing, like we talk about in the game of hockey.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Sometimes it's hard to do anything but defend in that situation.
- 2:52Speaker 4: But they can only push for so long. And when
- 2:54Speaker 4: they stop pushing or they stop throwing those haymakers, you've
- 2:57Speaker 4: got to go on the attack yourself. And if you don't,
- 2:59Speaker 4: they reset and they come back after you again. And
- 3:01Speaker 4: I think that's how you play with that lead. When
- 3:03Speaker 4: that chance to come back and start throwing some haymakers
- 3:06Speaker 4: of your own, start pushing– on your own, looking for
- 3:08Speaker 4: that next goal, you've got to do it.
- 3:11Speaker 3: It was his fourth start in the last five games
- 3:14Speaker 3: for Seattle. Another masterful performance.
- 3:16Speaker 1: For Philip Grubauer.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, right from the drop of the hat
- 3:20Speaker 4: in the first period, he came up with some big saves.
- 3:21Speaker 4: He knew he was going to see a lot of
- 3:23Speaker 4: pucks from this mammoth team that's got the number one
- 3:27Speaker 4: power play in the league. They went two for three
- 3:30Speaker 4: on the power play tonight, so they did find the
- 3:32Speaker 4: back of the net a couple of times on Grubauer
- 3:34Speaker 4: with some of their east to west shots. I talked
- 3:36Speaker 4: about most one-timers in the league by this Mammoth team.
- 3:39Speaker 4: He saw a lot of rubber tonight with 36 shots
- 3:42Speaker 4: on goal.
- 3:42Speaker 3: 5-3 win, Kraken over the Mammoth, 2-0 on this four-game homestand.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Thus far, we'll pause one more time, come back to
- 3:51Speaker 3: wrap from the press box after this on the Global
- 3:54Speaker 3: Credit Union Kraken Audio Network.

- 6:11Speaker 3: For the final time tonight, welcome back inside of Climate
- 6:14Speaker 3: Pledge Arena. Alongside Al Kaniski, Everett Fitzhugh with you. The
- 6:18Speaker 3: Kraken 5-3 win over the Utah Mammoth. Let's pause for
- 6:22Speaker 3: a station ID on the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network. Well, partner, again,
- 6:39Speaker 3: two nights in a row, maybe not how they drew
- 6:41Speaker 3: it up, but they get four points out of four
- 6:43Speaker 3: points to start this homestand.
- 6:45Speaker 1: What are your key takeaways and your final thoughts?
- 6:47Speaker 4: Yeah, key takeaways for me tonight was for the fourth
- 6:49Speaker 4: out of the last five games, the Kraken grabbing that
- 6:52Speaker 4: first goal of the game, Jordan Eberle with a lucky
- 6:54Speaker 4: one off the pads of Remelka, off the boards and
- 6:59Speaker 4: on the back of his jersey into the net, but
- 7:01Speaker 4: they all count. Secondly, the power play for the Kraken
- 7:04Speaker 4: going two for four tonight. That was excellent contribution to
- 7:07Speaker 4: the win. Third, Grubauer greatness. That was one of my
- 7:11Speaker 4: keys tonight. Grubauer with a 9-17 save percentage, stopping 33
- 7:14Speaker 4: of 36. And just looking at some of the course,
- 7:17Speaker 4: he stats a little bit. He had 62% of the
- 7:19Speaker 4: shots on goal or the shot attempts over the course
- 7:22Speaker 4: of the game. So a lot of work. And a
- 7:23Speaker 4: lot of that came in the second period where the
- 7:26Speaker 4: Mammoth had six high danger chances. And they also had
- 7:30Speaker 4: 24 shot attempts. So a lot of work in the
- 7:32Speaker 4: second for Grubauer. And then the last one was depth
- 7:35Speaker 4: of the deep. That was also a key for me tonight.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Ten different players. With points tonight on the Kraken. So
- 7:41Speaker 4: Kraken really using the depth of scoring tonight. Mama K's
- 7:44Speaker 4: three stars tonight. Third star goes to Jordan Eberle. He
- 7:48Speaker 4: had a goal and assist. Five shots on goal. Most
- 7:51Speaker 4: on the Kraken tonight. Second star goes to Phillip Grubauer.
- 7:54Speaker 4: See above 917 save percentage. 33 of 36 stops. And
- 7:58Speaker 4: your number one star tonight was Mackie Samuskevich. He had
- 8:01Speaker 4: the game winning goal in the third period. He also
- 8:04Speaker 4: had three shots on goal. So between he and Eberle.
- 8:06Speaker 4: They had a third of the shots on goal tonight
- 8:08Speaker 4: for the Kraken. Three starts of the game brought to
- 8:10Speaker 4: you by AAA of Washington who give you triple the savings,
- 8:13Speaker 4: triple the adventures, and triple the peace of mind every
- 8:16Speaker 4: time you're on the road.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Join at AAAWA.com.
- 8:19Speaker 1: That does it for us from Climate Pledge Arena.
- 8:22Speaker 3: The Kraken a 5-3 win over the Utah Mammoth back
- 8:25Speaker 3: home on Saturday night against the Minnesota Wild as they
- 8:29Speaker 3: are going to have a bit of a burr in
- 8:31Speaker 3: their saddle. They lost in Calgary tonight by a 2-1 score,
- 8:35Speaker 3: so a close tight game and the wild.
- 8:38Speaker 1: They're going to be hungry on Saturday. Big one coming
- 8:40Speaker 1: up for the Kraken.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Great seats still remain at seattlekraken.com slash tickets.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But for now, across the street we go.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Mike Benton at Tom's Wash Bar standing by to drive
- 8:51Speaker 3: you home.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Mikey.
- 8:52Speaker 7: Guys, it feels like in the third period it is
- 8:55Speaker 7: a lyric out of a C & C Music Factory
- 8:57Speaker 7: song going to make you sweat. But by the end
- 9:00Speaker 7: of it, it's all about everybody dance now. Yes, we
- 9:04Speaker 7: had to get it out there here. Kraken 5, Utah Mammoth.
- 9:07Speaker 7: Three-year final score once again were approves. Last 20 minutes,
- 9:11Speaker 7: nothing comes easy, but the Kraken survive another wave of
- 9:15Speaker 7: a comeback and get it done on a game-winning goal
- 9:17Speaker 7: by Mackie Samuskevich. But Freddie Goudreau also putting this one away.
- 9:21Speaker 7: Phillip Grubauer looking spectacular in net once again. 33 saves,
- 9:25Speaker 7: and he had depth kicking in with 10 players getting
- 9:28Speaker 7: a point or more in this game. Special teams-wise... It
- 9:31Speaker 7: was a wash, but good enough for the Kraken to
- 9:34Speaker 7: go two for four on the man advantage, and they
- 9:36Speaker 7: effectively end a losing skid against Utah. Once again, we're
- 9:40Speaker 7: back live at Tom's Wash Bar right across from Clement

- 13:41Speaker 7: the result once again, 2-0 on this homestand and surviving
- 13:46Speaker 7: a rally again in the third period. Your final score,
- 13:49Speaker 7: Kraken 5, Manna 3, as the Kraken improve to 7,
- 13:53Speaker 7: 3-1 with a 14-point campaign out of the gate. They
- 13:57Speaker 7: are now 3-1 on home ice, ending a four-game series
- 14:00Speaker 7: Winless skid head-to-head against the Mammoth and Utah falling to 7-4.
- 14:06Speaker 7: Still with 14 points on the campaign. They're 3-2 now
- 14:09Speaker 7: in the midst of five games out of seven on
- 14:12Speaker 7: home ice. So a road rare stop here for them
- 14:15Speaker 7: in that stretch. Again, Mike Benton with you back at
- 14:17Speaker 7: Tom's Wash Bar right across from Climate Pledge Arena. And
- 14:20Speaker 7: time now for the scoring recap. It's a doozy. And
- 14:23Speaker 7: this Seattle Kraken Drive to the Net scoring recap is

- 14:33Speaker 7: of Kirkland. Visit our showroom today or check us out
- 14:38Speaker 7: at toyotaofkirkland.com. Jordan Eberle got the Kraken on the board,
- 14:43Speaker 7: and rightfully so. The captain helping lead by example here.
- 14:46Speaker 7: in a big game for this early portion of the
- 14:49Speaker 7: schedule at 3.38 of period one. He missed wide on
- 14:52Speaker 7: a shot that bounced off the backboards, then off Corral Vemelka. Tongue-in-cheek,
- 14:57Speaker 7: you might say, just how they drew it up. But
- 14:58Speaker 7: they'll take the fortuitous bounce. Eberle's fourth from Riker Evans
- 15:02Speaker 7: gave the Kraken a 1-0 lead as he got out
- 15:04Speaker 7: of a four-game goal-scoring drought. But the Mammoth tied things
- 15:07Speaker 7: up in the power play where they have made a
- 15:09Speaker 7: lot of hay early this season. At 17.57, Vincent Trocek
- 15:13Speaker 7: picking up his third goal of the year from former
- 15:16Speaker 7: Kraken forward Kyler Yamamoto to tie it up at one.
- 15:20Speaker 7: but the Kraken still finding a way to fight back,
- 15:24Speaker 7: turn about his fair play in this kind of way.
- 15:27Speaker 7: Matty Beneers, power play goal at 18-23, a period one
- 15:32Speaker 7: after Kevin Stenland was set off for interference, and a
- 15:35Speaker 7: nifty behind-the-back pass by Capo Caco set him up. Beneers
- 15:39Speaker 7: from Caco and Catton made it a 2-1 Kraken lead
- 15:42Speaker 7: with Beneers picking up his third goal on the campaign,
- 15:46Speaker 7: and Utah's penalty kill still very much smarting by the end.
- 15:50Speaker 7: of the first frame. The Kraken then, with a greater
- 15:54Speaker 7: chance to add more to the damage, going up for
- 15:56Speaker 7: a two-man advantage and looking to apply more of it
- 16:00Speaker 7: early on.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Montour to the half wall. The captain, back to Montour, winds.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Fires, scores!
- 16:14Speaker 4: Monty Mania on the power play.
- 16:17Speaker 3: He's got goals in back-to-back games. The Kraken with a
- 16:22Speaker 3: 3-1 lead.
- 16:23Speaker 1: 17-37 to go in the second.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Well, after rigging the puck off the post the first
- 16:27Speaker 4: time Montour put one on net, he gets another great
- 16:30Speaker 4: feed from Jordan Eberle, set up for a one-timer. He
- 16:33Speaker 4: puts everything into this bomb from the point, blows it past.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Mamelka, 3-1 Seattle.
- 16:40Speaker 7: Penalties by Kyler Yamamoto and Jack McBain for interference and
- 16:44Speaker 7: tripping early in the second period. You could argue was
- 16:46Speaker 7: a big difference to help get the Kraken off on
- 16:48Speaker 7: the right foot and get ahead here for much of
- 16:51Speaker 7: this game. And Brandon Montour taking advantage for the Kraken's
- 16:54Speaker 7: second 5-on-3 goal of the season. His second of the
- 16:57Speaker 7: year coming at. 223 from Jordan Eberle and Vince Dunn
- 17:02Speaker 7: as well to make it. a 3-1 Kraken advantage. Would
- 17:06Speaker 7: it hold up? Utah had some comeback ideas in mind
- 17:10Speaker 7: and got going, 27 seconds into the third. Logan Cooley
- 17:13Speaker 7: to the front of the net, got a power play goal,
- 17:15Speaker 7: his second of the year from Mikhail Sergachev and Clayton Keller.
- 17:19Speaker 7: And then Cooley right back on ice, a little under
- 17:22Speaker 7: eight minutes into period three, looking for more.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Weeger, now for Cooley, high slot shot, and they score.
- 17:34Speaker 1: That one on side. And the Mammoth have tied the
- 17:37Speaker 1: game 3-3. 12.17 to go in period number three.
- 17:43Speaker 7: And this was also after a disallowed goal for offside
- 17:46Speaker 7: and a successful coach's challenge. But Logan Cooley helping Utah
- 17:49Speaker 7: rally right back to tie it from Sergeyev and Mackenzie
- 17:52Speaker 7: Wieger at 742. And the Kraken not just looking for
- 17:56Speaker 7: some balance, but also merely looking for a shot on goal.
- 18:00Speaker 7: It took them a while, about five minutes left in
- 18:03Speaker 7: period three, but then getting Mackie Samuskevich back on ice,
- 18:07Speaker 7: potentially paying off right here.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Now Seattle breaks it up the right side. McMahon shoots,
- 18:13Speaker 1: that one through the pads of Malka.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Goes off the side of the goal, McMahon again, back door, scores!
- 18:25Speaker 1: Mackie Sanoskevich goes toward the goal.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Crashing the net, he'll finish the play.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And the Kraken regain their lead.
- 18:37Speaker 3: It's a 4-3 edge with 5.25 left in regulation.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Well, Bobby McMahon with tons of speed down that left side.
- 18:45Speaker 4: He's got a two-on-one, but he's got to step on
- 18:48Speaker 4: the mammoth defense.
- 18:49Speaker 7: But he opts for the shot. Like he said, Vemelka
- 18:52Speaker 7: leaks that one out.
- 18:53Speaker 5: He ends up picking the puck up again.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Finding Samus Gibbons, trailing down the slot. Puts it on
- 18:58Speaker 4: his stick. And on the first shot of this third period,
- 19:02Speaker 4: the Kraken.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Score, 4-3.
- 19:04Speaker 7: And you had a crowd of 17,151 collectively breathing a
- 19:08Speaker 7: sigh of relief. Mackie Samaskevis getting his fifth goal of
- 19:11Speaker 7: the season. That came at 14.35 from Bobby McMahon, and
- 19:15Speaker 7: Brandon Montour to restore the Kraken lead at 4-3, and
- 19:18Speaker 7: also finally get a shot on the board where nothing
- 19:22Speaker 7: came after 1.31 left in the second period, and the
- 19:26Speaker 7: Kraken had to wait until 5.35 left in the third
- 19:30Speaker 7: to get one on Corral Vemelka, but they had the
- 19:32Speaker 7: lead intact. Freddie Gaudreau then putting the game away. Empty
- 19:36Speaker 7: net goal. One minute left in regulation for a six
- 19:39Speaker 7: on the year to wrap it up. And the Kraken
- 19:41Speaker 7: hold off the Utah Mammoth 5-3 with a victory. Now
- 19:45Speaker 7: 2-0 on this homestand and ending a four-game win. winless
- 19:50Speaker 7: skid against Utah. Final shots on net, 36-23 in favor
- 19:54Speaker 7: of Utah, showing how great Phillip Grubauer was in net
- 19:57Speaker 7: to get the win. He had a 33-save effort. Kirill
- 20:00Speaker 7: Vemelka takes a loss between the pipes. 18 saves on
- 20:04Speaker 7: 22 shots. Grubauer's 4-1-1. Vemelka is now 5-3. Time now
- 20:10Speaker 7: for the Coors Light Chillest Moments of the game. And again,
- 20:12Speaker 7: Kraken fans, you can win your chance to sit in
- 20:13Speaker 7: the Coors Light silver seats. Go to CoorsLight.com forward slash
- 20:17Speaker 7: Seattle Kraken to enter. Must be 21 years of age.
- 20:20Speaker 7: No purchase necessary. Coors Light. Choose chill. Celebrate responsibly. Well,
- 20:25Speaker 7: moment one. How do you set the tone? Well, The
- 20:28Speaker 7: Kraken looking to get after it early in period one.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Now they bring it back in on side.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Jordan Eberle, a shot near wing.
- 20:35Speaker 18: It bounces off the end boards, off the back of Mamelka,
- 20:39Speaker 18: and they score. Eberle fires a shot wide of the goal.
- 20:47Speaker 18: It takes a very lively hop.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Off the wall and off the back of Vemelka and in.
- 20:53Speaker 3: The captain has given the Kraken a 1-0 lead.
- 20:56Speaker 4: We talked a lot about these first passes under the
- 20:58Speaker 4: D zone that have been missing over the first part
- 21:00Speaker 4: of this first period. This one does not. Gets right
- 21:03Speaker 4: on the Eberle stick on the far blue line. He
- 21:06Speaker 4: just puts a shot on net hoping to get a rebound.
- 21:09Speaker 4: That rebound comes off the backboards after a save from Vamelka.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Comes over the back of the net, hits him in
- 21:15Speaker 4: the numbers behind and bounces in.
- 21:18Speaker 5: 1-0 Seattle.
- 21:20Speaker 7: Kraken are now 6-0 and 1 when they score the
- 21:22Speaker 7: first goal of the game. That was big to set
- 21:24Speaker 7: the tone and get the crowd into it. Jordan Eberle
- 21:27Speaker 7: getting the Kraken out to a 1-0 lead was our
- 21:29Speaker 7: first moment. Secondly, it was Utah apparently scoring in period three,
- 21:33Speaker 7: but the goal waved off for offside. It was potentially
- 21:36Speaker 7: a warning shot. Utah would tie the game, but the
- 21:39Speaker 7: Kraken found a way to persevere by the end of
- 21:42Speaker 7: it in the 5-3 victory. Time now for the big
- 21:45Speaker 7: win brought to you by the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling.
- 21:48Speaker 7: Wild game in Edmonton. Oilers and Carolina going right down
- 21:53Speaker 7: to the wire with the Oilers looking to complete the comeback.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Nugent Hopkins a left-handed shot. Glove shelves there.
- 22:02Speaker 7: Nugent Hopkins comes in. His shot.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Scores!
- 22:07Speaker 3: Ryan Nugent Hopkins with a quick shot.
- 22:10Speaker 19: And the Edmonton Oilers are up 1-0 in the shootout.
- 22:15Speaker 7: That goal courtesy, that goal call courtesy Cam Moon for
- 22:19Speaker 7: Edmonton Radio on Chet 880 AM and part of a
- 22:23Speaker 7: 6-5 comeback win in a shootout for the Oilers who

- 31:45Speaker 7: it kind of feels like this is lather rinse repeat, folks.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Kraken 5, Utah 3, your final score. But how we
- 31:50Speaker 7: got there feels a lot like two nights ago. Mike Benton,
- 31:55Speaker 7: Al Kaniski here to talk about it with you. Texas
- 31:58Speaker 7: right now, 4-9-4-5-1, Tacoma Dodge text line. Again, Tacoma Dodge, Chrysler,
- 32:03Speaker 7: Jeep Ram at the corner of 38th. and South Tacoma Way,
- 32:06Speaker 7: the intersection of savings. My question to you is how
- 32:09Speaker 7: would you best describe this victory tonight?
- 32:12Speaker 3: 4-9-4-5-1.
- 32:12Speaker 7: Al Kaniski is here with me right now. The smoke
- 32:18Speaker 7: has finally cleared. We kind of hang on to our
- 32:21Speaker 7: hats again for the third period, but this team again
- 32:24Speaker 7: emerges some way, somehow with the two points. I'll put
- 32:28Speaker 7: it to you this way. It's a lot better than
- 32:30Speaker 7: squandering them as far as one point or even zero
- 32:34Speaker 7: by the end of it.
- 32:34Speaker 4: I mean, you'll take it any way you can get it, Mike,
- 32:36Speaker 4: and you'd like to get it a little cleaner than
- 32:39Speaker 4: the last two games, but you'll still take it. They'll
- 32:41Speaker 4: go down as W's in the column. They'll go down
- 32:44Speaker 4: as two points, and You march on from that. You
- 32:47Speaker 4: don't necessarily wipe things clean. You've got to talk about
- 32:50Speaker 4: how to play with a lead, how to not get
- 32:52Speaker 4: scored on.
- 32:52Speaker 5: As much in the third period.
- 32:53Speaker 4: But, you know, as Jordan Eberle said in his postgame interview,
- 32:57Speaker 4: it's more about playing with a lead than it is
- 32:59Speaker 4: just about the third period.
- 33:00Speaker 7: I thought his words were so great because, yeah, you
- 33:02Speaker 7: want to find a way to get past the 40-minute
- 33:05Speaker 7: mile and find a way to get in there with
- 33:07Speaker 7: a lead. But just overall, just from the scope of it,
- 33:11Speaker 7: There is something that has to do with confidence because
- 33:14Speaker 7: the brain can automatically move the legs and everything else.
- 33:17Speaker 7: And that's got to be where it starts here. As
- 33:19Speaker 7: the Kraken again get goals from Jordan Eberle, Matty Beneers,
- 33:23Speaker 7: Brandon Montour, Mackie Samuskevich, and the empty net goal here
- 33:27Speaker 7: by Freddie Gaudreau. But we cannot forget about Philip Grubauer
- 33:30Speaker 7: once again. It appeared that Lane Lambert pushed the right button,
- 33:34Speaker 7: putting him here in this game. Yes, Grubauer was not perfect.
- 33:38Speaker 7: Three goals allowed on 36 shots. But toward the end
- 33:42Speaker 7: of the second period and in the third, it was
- 33:44Speaker 7: about the quality of shots that he faced. And he
- 33:48Speaker 7: looked near unflappable once again.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I go into every game, whether I'm
- 33:52Speaker 4: on the bench or, you know, in the radio booth,
- 33:54Speaker 4: not expecting my goaltender to be perfect. What I expect
- 33:58Speaker 4: is that he stops all the pucks he's supposed to.
- 34:01Speaker 4: He probably comes up with a few key saves here
- 34:03Speaker 4: and there, but you had to know that Grubauer was
- 34:06Speaker 4: going to face a lot of pucks tonight. This is
- 34:07Speaker 4: the number one power play in the league, 36.1% coming
- 34:11Speaker 4: into tonight, the Utah Mammoths power play. You knew there
- 34:14Speaker 4: were going to be a lot of pucks to the
- 34:15Speaker 4: front of the net. No surprise they had a couple
- 34:17Speaker 4: of power play goals. But Philip Grubauer still needed to
- 34:20Speaker 4: keep this game, find a way to keep this game
- 34:22Speaker 4: to three goals against or less, and he did.
- 34:24Speaker 5: That, so I think he delivered.
- 34:25Speaker 7: And two things that I think about when you mention that, because...
- 34:29Speaker 7: I've said all along, you know, for the last week,
- 34:32Speaker 7: two weeks, month, you know, when we go around to
- 34:35Speaker 7: different shows talking about the state of this team and
- 34:37Speaker 7: what they have to do to be in the mix
- 34:40Speaker 7: for a playoff spot, March and April. I've always said
- 34:45Speaker 7: nothing matters if you don't have the right kind of goaltending.
- 34:49Speaker 7: They're getting it right now. But it also leads here
- 34:52Speaker 7: to a different question. How can you find a way
- 34:56Speaker 7: to win like this and make this sustainable? Because I
- 34:59Speaker 7: know and I think when you're looking at the blueprint
- 35:02Speaker 7: here for this game, you don't look back here for
- 35:04Speaker 7: the third period. And maybe at some points it was
- 35:06Speaker 7: worse than compared to two nights ago. This team didn't
- 35:08Speaker 7: have a shot on goal after about one minute and
- 35:11Speaker 7: 30 seconds, roughly. I have this back in my notes.
- 35:16Speaker 7: 131 left here in the third period or second period.
- 35:19Speaker 7: That was the last time they had a shot on
- 35:20Speaker 7: goal until 535. left in the third. So where are
- 35:25Speaker 7: we at right now as far as managing the puck
- 35:28Speaker 7: and making the right decisions for a game like this
- 35:31Speaker 7: in period three?
- 35:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, we talked a little bit about this,
- 35:35Speaker 4: and I like to use simple analogies. And when you're getting,
- 35:38Speaker 4: you know, when you're in a boxing match and you've
- 35:40Speaker 4: got a guy just throwing haymakers on you, at some
- 35:42Speaker 4: point he's going to get tired. At some point the
- 35:45Speaker 4: Utah Mammoth have to change. At some point you've got
- 35:48Speaker 4: to realize that when they get tired, when they change,
- 35:51Speaker 4: you've got to push back the other way. And it
- 35:53Speaker 4: took the Kraken a long time to do that because
- 35:54Speaker 4: they were getting off the ice at the same time.
- 35:56Speaker 4: But eventually, eventually they started to push back. They pressured
- 36:00Speaker 4: the goal that was called back. That was just great
- 36:03Speaker 4: puck pressure by Chandler Stevenson. He just got on the
- 36:05Speaker 4: wrong side of the blue line. But they needed to
- 36:07Speaker 4: do more of that to generate offensive opportunities. And finally,
- 36:11Speaker 4: they started to do it. And one of the most
- 36:12Speaker 4: exciting moments. parts of that third period. It didn't end
- 36:14Speaker 4: up being a goal. It was that two-on-one where Mackie
- 36:17Speaker 4: Samuskiewicz was on the right side and Bobby McMahon was
- 36:19Speaker 4: on the left. The two fastest skaters on this hockey
- 36:22Speaker 4: team burning down the ice, and you thought, here's going
- 36:25Speaker 4: to be a great scoring opportunity. They got a shot
- 36:27Speaker 4: towards the front of the net, but it was ultimately
- 36:29Speaker 4: Samuskiewicz later that got that go-ahead goal. but it was
- 36:32Speaker 4: because they pressured at the other end of the ice.
- 36:34Speaker 7: Yeah, and I think you touched on this here because
- 36:35Speaker 7: it just kind of reminds us of how much this,
- 36:39Speaker 7: you know, was a platter of variety of pros and
- 36:42Speaker 7: cons here with where this team is at right now.
- 36:44Speaker 7: We've talked about the cons. Here's one of the pros,
- 36:47Speaker 7: and you hinted at this. Sam Miskevich and McMahon now
- 36:51Speaker 7: together on a line. We've seen this now for two games.
- 36:54Speaker 7: McMahon left wing, Stevenson in the middle, Sam Miskevich on
- 36:59Speaker 7: the right wing. Since that switch... Mackie Samaskevich has goals
- 37:03Speaker 7: in back-to-back games. He scored a crucial game-winning goal. I
- 37:07Speaker 7: saw that line deployed at critical moments tonight at 5-on-5,
- 37:11Speaker 7: so what did you make out of them?
- 37:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, again, Bobby McMahon still beat Vemelka with
- 37:15Speaker 4: a goal. It was called back because it was offside,
- 37:18Speaker 4: not because he did not beat the goaltender. So he's
- 37:21Speaker 4: got a lot of confidence playing on that line right now.
- 37:23Speaker 5: He's scoring.
- 37:23Speaker 4: He's using his speed. I think that line is fantastic.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Stevenson's a great playmaker for those two guys. You get
- 37:30Speaker 4: a guy like Stevenson and Bobby McMahon together, you're going
- 37:34Speaker 4: to see a lot of pucks to the net because
- 37:36Speaker 4: Stevenson's a great deliverer of the puck, and he looks
- 37:39Speaker 4: for those opportunities all over the ice.
- 37:40Speaker 7: Wasn't exactly Chandler Stevenson's best night of the faceoff circle.
- 37:44Speaker 7: He went 7 of 17, and Utah won the share
- 37:48Speaker 7: as far as this game tonight, and a lot of
- 37:50Speaker 7: Kraken players fell short of that 50% bar with faceoff wins.
- 37:54Speaker 7: The only exception was Ben Myers, who didn't get a
- 37:56Speaker 7: lot of draws out there. He went 3 for 4.
- 37:59Speaker 7: But I go back and look here at the metrics.
- 38:02Speaker 7: And I think my question, and I had this kind
- 38:04Speaker 7: of on stare down because we heard about the hints
- 38:08Speaker 7: going now from the Stevenson line to the Berkeley-Catton line
- 38:12Speaker 7: as far as this conversation. Over and over, this arguably
- 38:16Speaker 7: has been the most sustainable line that we've seen. early
- 38:20Speaker 7: in this season. And it's because of one guy, he
- 38:22Speaker 7: wears 2-7 on the back of his jersey. It's not
- 38:25Speaker 7: to say that he's carrying that line, but I think
- 38:28Speaker 7: more and more, Al, we're starting to, I think, see
- 38:30Speaker 7: the examples of how much he drives the line, and
- 38:33Speaker 7: tonight he came up with one assist as well, and
- 38:35Speaker 7: he was noticeable all over the ice.
- 38:37Speaker 4: Well, going into the game tonight, that line of Wright, Katton,
- 38:40Speaker 4: and Kako had 19 points. Going into the game tonight,
- 38:43Speaker 4: the line of McCann, Beneers, and Eberle, also 19 points.
- 38:46Speaker 4: You might think, well, first line and third line. But
- 38:49Speaker 4: the Caco, Catton, and Wright line are averaging 14 minutes
- 38:53Speaker 4: of ice time a game. The top line of McCann, Beneers,
- 38:56Speaker 4: and Eberle, 16.5 minutes of ice time a game. That's
- 38:59Speaker 4: two and a half minutes more ice time for that
- 39:01Speaker 4: top line, and a lot of it is on the
- 39:02Speaker 4: power play. So that third line's getting probably three shifts
- 39:06Speaker 4: less per game, but they're putting out just as many
- 39:10Speaker 4: points tonight. That top line had two points. So did
- 39:13Speaker 4: that third line.
- 39:14Speaker 7: Who wants more ice time and who wants more responsibility
- 39:17Speaker 7: for this line? I'll throw this out there.
- 39:18Speaker 1: 4-9-4-5-1.
- 39:19Speaker 7: Again, Tacoma Dodge Tech's line. The Berkeley-Catton line, have they
- 39:23Speaker 7: shown you enough to get moved up the depth chart
- 39:25Speaker 7: here at this point? This is only for the sake
- 39:27Speaker 7: of conversation, but Lane Lambert did mention this. a few
- 39:30Speaker 7: days ago, where if they keep playing at a sustainable level,
- 39:34Speaker 7: it wouldn't be surprising to see them moved up with
- 39:39Speaker 7: more responsibilities. I think for me, the one thing you've
- 39:42Speaker 7: got to look at, are they starting at 5-on-5 back
- 39:46Speaker 7: in their own zone and with face-offs. That's critical because
- 39:50Speaker 7: it means defending your own net just about merely a
- 39:53Speaker 7: few feet away.
- 39:54Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely.
- 39:55Speaker 4: And I think that, you know, for Lane Lambert to
- 39:58Speaker 4: put your line out on the ice more, you've got
- 40:00Speaker 4: to have a 200-foot game. You can't just be focused
- 40:03Speaker 4: on offense. And I think that that Kako Kattner right
- 40:06Speaker 4: line is starting to become more dependable in their own zone.
- 40:10Speaker 4: And when they do, they'll start to see that time
- 40:13Speaker 4: on the ice go up and You know, I know
- 40:15Speaker 4: Lane Lambert doesn't like to talk about first, second, third,
- 40:17Speaker 4: and fourth lines a lot because sometimes your second and
- 40:20Speaker 4: third lines are going and you want to get them
- 40:22Speaker 4: on the ice more. I think you're going to start
- 40:25Speaker 4: to see that cat in the line move up the
- 40:28Speaker 4: time on ice average a little bit more. It might
- 40:30Speaker 4: be 14 and a half, might be 15 here before long,
- 40:33Speaker 4: but you're going to see them get more ice time
- 40:35Speaker 4: if they keep producing like this.
- 40:37Speaker 7: According to naturalstatrick.com, by the way, a great resource, I thought,
- 40:41Speaker 7: you know, for analytics for so many years. That line,
- 40:45Speaker 7: zero defensive shift starts tonight. Keep an eye on this
- 40:49Speaker 7: because once you start seeing them pop out there for
- 40:52Speaker 7: a face-off, I think that's going to tell you something
- 40:54Speaker 7: as far as how much they've graduated. Now they had
- 40:57Speaker 7: five in the neutral zone, three in the offensive zone,
- 40:59Speaker 7: but that is something to definitely keep an eye on.
- 41:03Speaker 7: Three things I looked out for, Al, I think number
- 41:05Speaker 7: one was that strong first period and they certainly got
- 41:07Speaker 7: it because it was kind of like the exact opposite
- 41:09Speaker 7: of period three. I thought great first five minutes. They
- 41:13Speaker 7: won a ton of time in the O zone as well.
- 41:16Speaker 7: And you have the Eberle gold. Not exactly how you
- 41:18Speaker 7: maybe drew it up, but you certainly take it. And
- 41:21Speaker 7: I'll kind of transition from that here into the mistake
- 41:24Speaker 7: game because Kirill Vemelka, that I think was mistake number
- 41:27Speaker 7: one in not covering his post and misreading the bounce
- 41:30Speaker 7: off the boards.
- 41:31Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely. And you know what?
- 41:33Speaker 4: I think of the Wayne Gretzky quote, 100% of the
- 41:35Speaker 4: shots you don't take, don't go in. Eberle just putting
- 41:38Speaker 4: the puck on net. I don't think he was expecting
- 41:40Speaker 4: to To score from there, he was shooting for a
- 41:43Speaker 4: rebound from Elka with the save. It just goes off
- 41:47Speaker 4: the boards weird, off his back and in. You'll take
- 41:49Speaker 4: it as a goal scorer.
- 41:51Speaker 7: And I think number two, the thing I was looking
- 41:53Speaker 7: out for was win the mistake game. Number three was
- 41:57Speaker 7: special teams. I'll call that a wash. But going back
- 41:59Speaker 7: to mistakes, here's kind of what I wrote down. The Melka,
- 42:03Speaker 7: that was mistake one. The Kraken won that one. So
- 42:05Speaker 7: it's 1-0. Then the Utah penalty. Lawson Kraus for interference.
- 42:10Speaker 7: Kraken don't cash in. They had to cash in against
- 42:13Speaker 7: a power play that was wobbling. So maybe one for
- 42:16Speaker 7: one right there. Then maybe you get blown coverage, first period,
- 42:20Speaker 7: leaving Logan Cooley open like that. I mean, he could
- 42:22Speaker 7: have easily had a hat trick here for the night.
- 42:24Speaker 7: But you come out unscathed. You call that a win.
- 42:28Speaker 7: Taking a penalty. Vincent Trocek, power play goal. Utah wins
- 42:32Speaker 7: that battle. But then I think going up five on three,
- 42:36Speaker 7: this was where ultimately– And maybe, of course, you can
- 42:39Speaker 7: argue Sam Miscavige, but this is where ultimately the game
- 42:43Speaker 7: set its course. Because Utah's got penalty issues, and all
- 42:47Speaker 7: of a sudden you have Brandon Montour wide open. You
- 42:50Speaker 7: had to find a way to cash in, and that
- 42:52Speaker 7: was where the Kraken made Utah pay for one of
- 42:56Speaker 7: the ultimate, if not the most ultimate mistake here tonight.
- 42:59Speaker 4: Yeah, and it was about that point in the game,
- 43:00Speaker 4: the second period when Montour got his second goal of
- 43:03Speaker 4: the season, that the giveaway count was 6-1. Utah was 6,
- 43:09Speaker 4: Seattle was 1. And you talk about mistakes. When you're
- 43:12Speaker 4: giving the puck away, that goes down as a mistake.
- 43:15Speaker 4: And it evened out over the course of the game,
- 43:16Speaker 4: actually ended 15-15. But at that point, everything was going
- 43:20Speaker 4: the Kraken way. They had the first two goals of
- 43:23Speaker 4: the game in the first period. Montreux with the second
- 43:25Speaker 4: one in the second for the three-goal lead. Everything was
- 43:29Speaker 4: going their way because they were creating those giveaways. Listen,
- 43:32Speaker 4: you don't give the puck away just to get rid
- 43:34Speaker 4: of it. You give it away because you're being pressured,
- 43:36Speaker 4: and Seattle was doing a good job of that in
- 43:38Speaker 4: the first half of the game.
- 43:39Speaker 7: Special team side of it here. I called this one
- 43:41Speaker 7: a wash, and you take it because ultimately for the Kraken,
- 43:44Speaker 7: it made a difference here tonight. They go two for
- 43:45Speaker 7: four on the power play, and you had to be
- 43:48Speaker 7: happy maybe with seeing seven shots on net. Not so
- 43:50Speaker 7: much the final power play here, but they had seven
- 43:52Speaker 7: shots on goal through three power plays, so they were
- 43:55Speaker 7: very active, and the first couple of periods... Very, very,
- 44:00Speaker 7: very up front with getting pucks right toward Corral Vemelka.
- 44:04Speaker 7: Utah's power play is unconscious here at this point. They
- 44:06Speaker 7: went tonight two for three on the man advantage, and
- 44:10Speaker 7: it just kind of felt like for either one of
- 44:12Speaker 7: these teams, you take a penalty like in baseball. You
- 44:15Speaker 7: are loading the bases with nobody out.
- 44:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, that's just it.
- 44:20Speaker 4: When you give a team like Utah with power play opportunities,
- 44:23Speaker 4: I don't care how good your penalty kill is. They're
- 44:25Speaker 4: going to find a way. Talking to Nick Olchek with
- 44:28Speaker 4: the Utah Mammoth.
- 44:29Speaker 5: Before the game. Our boy, Nicky.
- 44:32Speaker 4: He talked about their power play a little bit, and
- 44:34Speaker 4: he just said they've got so many different options. First
- 44:37Speaker 4: of all, they've got great personnel, but they've got so
- 44:39Speaker 4: many different options. If you take away the point shot,
- 44:41Speaker 4: they're going to go east to west, and if you
- 44:43Speaker 4: take away the east to west, they're going to go
- 44:44Speaker 4: low to high. And they know how to adapt quickly.
- 44:47Speaker 4: That's what makes a great power play. Life is good
- 44:50Speaker 4: for them. And I'll just kind of give some credit
- 44:52Speaker 4: here to the opposing side. When you have Sergeyev.
- 44:55Speaker 7: On the point, you have Gunther on one flank, you
- 44:58Speaker 7: have Cooley on the other flank, and you can mix
- 45:00Speaker 7: in a Clayton Keller as well there too. I mean,
- 45:03Speaker 7: my goodness, it's going to be rough in the Central
- 45:06Speaker 7: Division this year facing that kind of power play. But
- 45:09Speaker 7: even when You're Colorado or Minnesota or Dallas. I mean,
- 45:12Speaker 7: there is no guarantee 2.9 on the first four teams
- 45:15Speaker 7: in that division.
- 45:16Speaker 5: No, there absolutely isn't. You know what?
- 45:19Speaker 4: Utah's going to ride that power play all season long
- 45:21Speaker 4: if they can, so no surprise there.
- 45:23Speaker 7: Again, 49451 Tacoma Dosh text line. Let's check in first
- 45:27Speaker 7: off as we're going to get to Lane Lambert later
- 45:29Speaker 7: on here. 425 saying 100% more ice time right now
- 45:34Speaker 7: for the third line. Excellent chemistry with Berkley Catton and
- 45:37Speaker 7: Shane Wright. like their work on both ends of the ice,
- 45:41Speaker 7: that from the 4-2-5. Did you know, by the way,
- 45:44Speaker 7: I computed this, Berkley Catton, yes, I know a small
- 45:47Speaker 7: sample size, but eight points so far. He's on pace
- 45:50Speaker 7: for a 60-point campaign. You going to go over or
- 45:53Speaker 7: bet the under on that one?
- 45:55Speaker 4: I'm not going to say small sample size. We're 11
- 45:59Speaker 4: games in. We're in the double digits. I will bet
- 46:02Speaker 4: the over. Berkley Catton's game has evolved. Let's just call
- 46:05Speaker 4: it that. You know, he's bigger, he's stronger, he's faster.
- 46:08Speaker 4: His 200-foot game has evolved. He's more confident with the puck.
- 46:12Speaker 4: He's more confident shooting the puck. What else can I
- 46:14Speaker 4: say about him? He looks great out there. I'm going
- 46:16Speaker 4: to expect to see his time on ice continue to
- 46:19Speaker 4: increase over the course of the season. Tonight he had
- 46:22Speaker 4: 14.26 of time on ice tonight.
- 46:25Speaker 7: Eight points so far in 11 games. You're taking the
- 46:29Speaker 7: over or the under in Berkeley Cat and hitting 60
- 46:31Speaker 7: points this season, 4-9-4-5-1. A lot of feedback in here
- 46:35Speaker 7: just saying fantastic start, great win as well. Team looks solid.
- 46:39Speaker 7: Team looks driven. 3-6-0 saying I don't know if the
- 46:41Speaker 7: team is good here at this point, but they're certainly
- 46:44Speaker 7: more resilient than they were yesterday. Last year as well,
- 46:47Speaker 7: that from the 360. 425 saying solid performance, really appreciated
- 46:52Speaker 7: the work along the boards on both ends. This team
- 46:55Speaker 7: had a battle here and got a nice W out
- 46:58Speaker 7: of the equation. I did want to check in with
- 47:00Speaker 7: one reaction that I got via Twitter and X, and
- 47:02Speaker 7: I threw the same question out as well. How do
- 47:06Speaker 7: you best describe this kind of victory here for tonight?
- 47:09Speaker 7: And I want to go back and use the word
- 47:11Speaker 7: entertainment because... This has kind of been like at the
- 47:15Speaker 7: forefront of, I think, how you digest this team and
- 47:20Speaker 7: this game here. And there's one reaction here from the
- 47:23Speaker 7: Czar151 saying, undecided as far as where this team is,
- 47:27Speaker 7: but they are a very entertaining watch at this point.
- 47:31Speaker 7: There's a lot to get to because, I mean, I
- 47:33Speaker 7: say this tongue-in-cheek. Third period, I mean, it's edgier seats up,
- 47:38Speaker 7: but also just go back and think of what Berkeley
- 47:41Speaker 7: Catton's line is doing. And then maybe in this sense,
- 47:45Speaker 7: if you can get a solid 200-foot game out of
- 47:48Speaker 7: Matty Beneers. Once Catton graduates up to that 1C spot,
- 47:53Speaker 7: that's a pretty solid spot that you're starting out with, Al.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you're a ways away from seeing that,
- 47:57Speaker 4: but like I said, I think his average time on
- 48:00Speaker 4: ice is going to increase over the course of the season.
- 48:02Speaker 4: We'll see where that puts him at the end of
- 48:04Speaker 4: the season. I would not be surprised to see if
- 48:07Speaker 4: he takes that 1C spot from Chandler Stevenson at some point.
- 48:10Speaker 4: Not to take anything away from Chandler, but you just
- 48:13Speaker 4: see Berkeley-Catton's game evolving constantly where you just, you know,
- 48:17Speaker 4: it's hard to argue that you're not going to see
- 48:18Speaker 4: that by the end of the season.
- 48:20Speaker 7: From Doug Miller saying that fourth goal was money. Kind
- 48:22Speaker 7: of effort that we haven't seen from this team in
- 48:24Speaker 7: past seasons. The guys aren't giving up on plays. They're working.
- 48:28Speaker 7: First two periods, solid hockey, the Kraken look and feel
- 48:31Speaker 7: different this year, and it feels great. What a great win,
- 48:34Speaker 7: that from Doug Miller on Twitter and X. Mike and
- 48:37Speaker 7: Al with you. We'll take a break here live from
- 48:39Speaker 7: Tom's Watch Bar. More reaction, plus head coach Lane Lambert
- 48:41Speaker 7: right around the corner here on Kraken Weekly on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 48:47Speaker 2: If you've got a comment about tonight's Kraken game, make
- 48:50Speaker 2: sure we hear about it.
- 48:51Speaker 7: Just text us at 49451.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Now back to talking Kraken with Mike Benton on Sports
- 48:58Speaker 2: Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 48:59Speaker 7: Hey, a little did you know tomorrow is going to
- 49:03Speaker 7: be the five-year anniversary of the first home game in
- 49:06Speaker 7: Kraken history. How much time has flown by ever since then?
- 49:10Speaker 7: Mike Benton, Al Kaniski with you. Kraken 5, Mammoth 3,
- 49:12Speaker 7: your final score.
- 49:13Speaker 4: Yeah, first game back in Kraken history, October 23rd, 2021.
- 49:20Speaker 4: I was at the game, Mike. I was not working.
- 49:22Speaker 4: I was in the corner on the glass watching.
- 49:25Speaker 7: They're in spirit. I was at the top of section
- 49:27Speaker 7: 20 and waiting. with bated breath on a power play,
- 49:32Speaker 7: and then with 10 seconds left, knew I had to
- 49:34Speaker 7: turn right back and go to my set. And all
- 49:35Speaker 7: of a sudden, I hear ping, Vince Dunn off the bar,
- 49:39Speaker 7: and then goal horn sounds, place goes crazy. So I
- 49:42Speaker 7: missed it. I missed it.
- 49:44Speaker 5: You were working.
- 49:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I was working, though, when I saw the replay.
- 49:47Speaker 7: I won't forget the crowd reaction for that.
- 49:50Speaker 5: That was fun.
- 49:50Speaker 7: But so many great memories here tomorrow, being the five-year
- 49:53Speaker 7: anniversary of the first home game in Kraken history. We'll
- 49:55Speaker 7: have more, by the way, myself, Everett, Al, on Kraken
- 49:59Speaker 7: Weekly tomorrow podcast via the Kraken Audio Network and the
- 50:02Speaker 7: iHeartRadio app. All right, without further ado, back downstairs we go.
- 50:06Speaker 7: More reaction right now coming from Kraken Head Coach Lane Lambert.
- 50:11Speaker 17: Lane, they really came hard for you guys in the
- 50:12Speaker 17: third period there. What did you like about the way
- 50:14Speaker 17: you kind of responded and pushed back after they tied
- 50:17Speaker 17: it up and the push you guys had late to
- 50:20Speaker 17: get this one?
- 50:21Speaker 15: Yeah, I think I'm happy with the way we responded.
- 50:27Speaker 15: You know, I thought.
- 50:29Speaker 24: Obviously, they scored right away at the beginning of the
- 50:30Speaker 24: period on a power play, and then I just thought we,
- 50:34Speaker 24: you know, unlike the last game where I thought we
- 50:37Speaker 24: came out in the third period and went after them,
- 50:40Speaker 24: had opportunities to make it, you know, 4-0 against Detroit,
- 50:45Speaker 24: I thought we sat back.
- 50:48Speaker 15: And didn't like that very much.
- 50:50Speaker 24: So, you know, obviously we had a chat timeout, and
- 50:54Speaker 24: I thought we played better hockey from there.
- 50:57Speaker 17: One of the things I noticed was that on the five-on-three,
- 50:59Speaker 17: you had both the defensemen out there, Brandon and Vince.
- 51:01Speaker 17: What did you kind of like about that deployment and
- 51:04Speaker 17: having them both out there as a part of that
- 51:06Speaker 17: for you guys when you had the five-on-three?
- 51:07Speaker 24: Well, lefty-righty, both one-timers, both can shoot the puck.
- 51:14Speaker 25: With the way that things have gone here with the
- 51:16Speaker 25: multi-goal leads over the last couple of, what, 10 days
- 51:19Speaker 25: or so, you've had three now in the third period
- 51:21Speaker 25: that have ended up slipping away, on one hand.
- 51:24Speaker 15: What can you do to avoid having that happen?
- 51:26Speaker 25: But then on the other hand, what does it say
- 51:27Speaker 25: about your team that you've recovered and won those three games?
- 51:31Speaker 15: Well, let's start with having the lead. It's pretty good.
- 51:36Speaker 24: So if you want to look at it from a
- 51:38Speaker 24: positive standpoint, we're getting into a position where we're able
- 51:43Speaker 24: to give up a multi-goal lead and still win. I
- 51:47Speaker 24: agree with you that it's not.
- 51:51Speaker 15: I just think that.
- 51:54Speaker 24: And I said it earlier is that we've got to
- 51:57Speaker 24: continue to play the game the same way that got
- 51:59Speaker 24: us the lead. And that comes with a little bit
- 52:03Speaker 24: of experience, a little bit of time. What it says
- 52:06Speaker 24: about our team's resilience in these situations, it says a lot.
- 52:11Speaker 24: We continue to find ways to come back from these disappointments,
- 52:17Speaker 24: I guess, so to speak, in game. And then obviously
- 52:22Speaker 24: As we move along here, we're sure hoping that we
- 52:24Speaker 24: learn from it.
- 52:26Speaker 15: You've been writing Philip Grubauer.
- 52:28Speaker 25: What went into the decision to stick with him tonight,
- 52:30Speaker 25: and what did you see from his game?
- 52:32Speaker 15: He's playing great. I saw his game fantastic.
- 52:37Speaker 24: I think that he was full marks for winning the
- 52:44Speaker 24: hockey game. He gave us a chance to win all
- 52:46Speaker 24: night long.
- 52:49Speaker 21: How did it go with the, uh, in the third period,
- 52:51Speaker 21: both teams had goals, um, that were called back due
- 52:54Speaker 21: to offsides. How does that affect the momentum of both teams?
- 52:57Speaker 21: Seemed in this game, both teams ended up scoring the
- 53:00Speaker 21: next goal anyway, but from your perspective, how does that
- 53:03Speaker 21: flow into the period?
- 53:05Speaker 24: Well, I mean, at the end of the day, these
- 53:07Speaker 24: are things that, uh, you know, the rules are the
- 53:10Speaker 24: rules and the right call.
- 53:12Speaker 15: Has been made.
- 53:13Speaker 24: Um, you know, it's unfortunate when it happens, but, uh,
- 53:19Speaker 24: you can't let it necessarily affect you. I thought we
- 53:21Speaker 24: did a good job of continuing to push forward.
- 53:25Speaker 7: And that reaction from Kraken head coach Lane Lambert as
- 53:28Speaker 7: the Kraken again knock off Utah 5-3. And really, the coaches'
- 53:31Speaker 7: challenges were kind of a wash back in that third period.
- 53:34Speaker 7: Mackie Samaskevich's line ultimately is a difference maker in this one.
- 53:39Speaker 7: More reaction here from the 4-2-5. I thought a great point,
- 53:43Speaker 7: and Lane Lambert pointed this out. Also, the Krakens seem
- 53:46Speaker 7: to utilize their timeout very well. They bounce back after
- 53:49Speaker 7: that timeout. Would you agree? Well, for me, yeah, the
- 53:52Speaker 7: answer is yes. I mean, it seemed to kind of
- 53:55Speaker 7: tie the waters a bit. It took a while, but
- 53:57Speaker 7: eventually the right combination on the ice at the right time.
- 54:01Speaker 7: You found that shot on goal, and finally... some confidence
- 54:04Speaker 7: to put the puck into the back of the net
- 54:06Speaker 7: with a half-open net for Mackie Samuskevich. Something, Al, you
- 54:09Speaker 7: and I got to, and I think necessary to dive into.
- 54:15Speaker 7: Lane Lambert mentioned, yeah, if you blow a lead, you know,
- 54:18Speaker 7: it's not an ideal thing. But let's talk about what
- 54:20Speaker 7: he said, getting a lead. This is something the Kraken
- 54:24Speaker 7: have been doing much better of. Those kinds of starts
- 54:27Speaker 7: to eventually build something up.
- 54:29Speaker 4: Well, it's a would you would you rather question, Mike?
- 54:31Speaker 4: Would you rather go down three nothing and come back
- 54:33Speaker 4: and win four three? Or would you rather go up
- 54:35Speaker 4: three nothing and and lose the lead and then win
- 54:38Speaker 4: four to three? And I think that Lane Lambert's right.
- 54:41Speaker 4: You know, this team has has come out of the
- 54:43Speaker 4: gates firing. scored first four of the last five games,
- 54:47Speaker 4: built leads up. They've just got to figure out that
- 54:50Speaker 4: last little piece, which is how to keep the foot
- 54:52Speaker 4: on the gas, how to not sit on their heels,
- 54:54Speaker 4: how to not allow teams back into the games. And
- 54:57Speaker 4: then they're going to start winning these games 3-0, 3-1, 4-2, whatever,
- 55:02Speaker 4: rather than letting them back into the games. I would
- 55:04Speaker 4: rather build from that than having to build from, going
- 55:08Speaker 4: down 3-0 in the first period.
- 55:09Speaker 7: I've got to go back and look this up, but
- 55:11Speaker 7: it goes back to what we've heard over and over
- 55:14Speaker 7: and over, and it's a different day and age in game, folks,
- 55:17Speaker 7: now in the NHL. You give up the first goal
- 55:20Speaker 7: of the game. You're not just behind the proverbial eight ball,
- 55:23Speaker 7: but you're chasing nearly all night long, and I've got
- 55:25Speaker 7: to go back and look this up, but I heard
- 55:26Speaker 7: last time in the NHL the team that gives up
- 55:30Speaker 7: the first goal loses 66% of the time. That is substantial.
- 55:36Speaker 7: to borderline massive. So, I mean, for what you're doing,
- 55:40Speaker 7: it's a lot of right to get ahead and get
- 55:43Speaker 7: ahead early. Now, of course, there's a lot to work
- 55:45Speaker 7: on here, I think. We're trying to protect but also
- 55:48Speaker 7: play with confidence. But you're setting a foundation that you
- 55:52Speaker 7: have to set over and over and over. I mean,
- 55:54Speaker 7: and I'll tell you this, second period, I thought they
- 55:57Speaker 7: looked even better than the game two nights ago.
- 55:59Speaker 4: Well, I think if you asked one Sanford Koniski, he'd
- 56:03Speaker 4: tell you that the opening faceoff matters as well that
- 56:06Speaker 4: in his mind 90% of the teams that win the
- 56:09Speaker 4: opening faceoff win the hockey game with the idea being
- 56:12Speaker 4: hey you're ready to go you get the puck right
- 56:14Speaker 4: away you get the momentum right away it's a little
- 56:17Speaker 4: different because that's a 50-50 situation lots of times but
- 56:20Speaker 4: you know it's all about that momentum and when you
- 56:22Speaker 4: can get that first goal of the game you carry
- 56:25Speaker 4: that momentum when you get that first goal of the
- 56:26Speaker 4: game and you got your crowd behind you which again
- 56:28Speaker 4: I talked about as a key tonight getting the climate
- 56:32Speaker 4: pledge arena crowd in early that was uh that was
- 56:34Speaker 4: helpful to get that first goal of the game and
- 56:36Speaker 4: get some momentum going.
- 56:37Speaker 7: I mentioned this back in pregame this is such an
- 56:39Speaker 7: important potential 10 game starts the kraken are getting into
- 56:42Speaker 7: right now and you got three teams you're facing in
- 56:45Speaker 7: a row utah minnesota toronto minnesota's up next the biggest
- 56:51Speaker 7: challenge handling quinn hughes plus that top line potentially of
- 56:55Speaker 7: karil kaprizov joel erickson eck And Matt Boldy, oh boy,
- 56:59Speaker 7: Kaprizov last year, 45 goals. Boldy, 42 goals.
- 57:02Speaker 5: And they just lost to Calgary tonight, too.
- 57:04Speaker 15: Of course.
- 57:04Speaker 5: So you know they're coming into Seattle a little annoyed.
- 57:07Speaker 7: And with that, the Kraken trying to also reverse what
- 57:11Speaker 7: was last year a three-game series where Minnesota ran the table.
- 57:16Speaker 7: They outscored the Kraken 12-5. It will be the first
- 57:19Speaker 7: of three meetings coming up. And the only trip for Minnesota,
- 57:21Speaker 7: by the way, here for this entire season, the Kraken
- 57:24Speaker 7: will be in Minnesota January 28th. And then, again, at
- 57:27Speaker 7: Minnesota on March 22nd. Again, that's our next broadcast. 7
- 57:32Speaker 7: o'clock faceoff for the Kraken and the Wild. Everett now
