- 1:02Speaker 2: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 2: His compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 2: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if

- 1:13Speaker 2: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 2: program anytime online at TalkNetworkRadio.com. Well now, here's Richard with
- 1:22Speaker 2: today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I say then, walk by the Spirit, and you will
- 1:28Speaker 3: not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the
- 1:31Speaker 3: flesh desires what it is against the Spirit, and the
- 1:36Speaker 3: Spirit desires what is against the flesh. These are opposed
- 1:41Speaker 3: to each other, so that you don't do what you want.
- 1:46Speaker 3: But if you are led by the Spirit, you are
- 1:48Speaker 3: not under the law. But the fruit of the Spirit
- 1:54Speaker 3: is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Against such things there is no law. Now those who
- 2:10Speaker 3: belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its
- 2:15Speaker 3: passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, we
- 2:20Speaker 3: must also follow the Spirit. We must not become conceited
- 2:26Speaker 3: provoking one another, envying one another. Brothers, if someone is
- 2:32Speaker 3: caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual should restore
- 2:38Speaker 3: such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for
- 2:42Speaker 3: yourselves so you won't be tempted also. Carry one another's burdens.
- 2:49Speaker 3: In this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
- 2:54Speaker 3: For if anyone considers himself to be something when he
- 2:57Speaker 3: is nothing, he is deceiving himself. But each person should
- 3:02Speaker 3: examine his own work, and then he will have a
- 3:06Speaker 3: reason for boasting in himself alone, and not in respect
- 3:12Speaker 3: to someone else. For each person will have to carry
- 3:15Speaker 3: his own load. The one who is taught the message
- 3:19Speaker 3: must share his goods with the teacher. Don't be deceived.
- 3:24Speaker 3: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, he
- 3:29Speaker 3: will also reap. Because the one who sows to his
- 3:33Speaker 3: flesh will reap corruption from the flesh. But the one
- 3:38Speaker 3: who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from
- 3:43Speaker 3: the Spirit. So we must not get tired of doing good.
- 3:48Speaker 3: for we will reap at the proper time if we
- 3:52Speaker 3: don't give up. That passage of scripture being addressed in
- 3:59Speaker 3: Paul's letter again to the church of Galatia, in the
- 4:04Speaker 3: fifth chapter it began with the obvious opposition between the
- 4:12Speaker 3: works of the flesh and the works of the spirit.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And it says that We are in Christ. We have
- 4:23Speaker 3: crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Now, how
- 4:31Speaker 3: do we do this? How does it happen in our life?
- 4:40Speaker 3: We talked about it before, and a part of what
- 4:43Speaker 3: we have discussed has been surrender. We've talked about how
- 4:48Speaker 3: we submit our will, our purposes, and our plans, our
- 4:53Speaker 3: agenda to that of the Holy Spirit. Jesus always tells
- 5:00Speaker 3: us that we are to glorify him. If we live
- 5:07Speaker 3: a life that glorifies Jesus, we are going to be full.
- 5:14Speaker 3: We're going to be content. We're going to be And
- 5:21Speaker 3: the thing that we look at, as we read in
- 5:25Speaker 3: the earlier passage, we saw that there is not only
- 5:30Speaker 3: the works of the flesh that produce all of those
- 5:35Speaker 3: things that are opposed to the spirit. But then in
- 5:39Speaker 3: the same chapter, the Apostle Paul goes into the fruit
- 5:46Speaker 3: of the spirit. In this study, we have gone through
- 5:51Speaker 3: all of the facets of being full of the Holy Spirit.
- 5:57Speaker 3: We've talked about not just being full to the brim,
- 6:02Speaker 3: but overflowing in the Spirit. Because if we're overflowing, we're
- 6:10Speaker 3: going to have others that are affected by the Holy Spirit.
- 6:16Speaker 3: He will If you understand, spill out on others and
- 6:23Speaker 3: draw them to Jesus. We, in doing this, exemplify something
- 6:30Speaker 3: that Jesus said to us very early in our instruction.
- 6:37Speaker 3: He said, if you love me, keep my commandments. If
- 6:42Speaker 3: you love me, keep my commandments. And he made his
- 6:48Speaker 3: commandments very clear. He said, you must love one another
- 6:54Speaker 3: as I have loved you. You might remember that we
- 6:58Speaker 3: discussed where Jesus said, no one is greater than his master.
- 7:08Speaker 3: And Jesus is saying something to us that he has
- 7:13Speaker 3: shown us how to serve one another. He has shown
- 7:17Speaker 3: us how to love one another. He goes to the
- 7:22Speaker 3: extreme end of laying down our life for our friends.
- 7:30Speaker 3: He calls us friends. No longer are we just slaves,
- 7:37Speaker 3: but we are his friends because we willingly submit to
- 7:42Speaker 3: what brings glory to him. We are those vessels that
- 7:50Speaker 3: he chooses to use. And as a result of this
- 7:57Speaker 3: overflowing light in the Holy Spirit, we see the fruit
- 8:05Speaker 3: that are born out in our lives. It's worth repeating
- 8:11Speaker 3: because it is all based in love. It says that
- 8:17Speaker 3: the fruit of the Spirit is love, and out of
- 8:21Speaker 3: that comes joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Against such there is no law. And he says those
- 8:35Speaker 3: who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh, the
- 8:41Speaker 3: old nature, with its passions and desires. If we live
- 8:46Speaker 3: by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit. We
- 8:52Speaker 3: must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And then he goes on in the sixth chapter to
- 9:03Speaker 3: define a method of exemplifying this love. He talks about
- 9:11Speaker 3: how we treat others within the household of faith. He
- 9:19Speaker 3: talks about how we are to bear one another's burdens
- 9:26Speaker 3: and so fulfill the law of Christ. You see, believer,
- 9:33Speaker 3: we once served the law of sin and death, but
- 9:39Speaker 3: we have been liberated, set free from the law of
- 9:44Speaker 3: sin and death. We now have a life which is
- 9:50Speaker 3: free under submission to the Holy Spirit and being able
- 9:59Speaker 3: to glorify God by bearing one another's burdens. This is
- 10:06Speaker 3: an area that many people have misunderstood. And we'll try
- 10:12Speaker 3: to bring clarity to it because the issue is many
- 10:17Speaker 3: people look at the works perform and they feel that
- 10:24Speaker 3: those works speak for themselves and therefore bring glory to God.
- 10:31Speaker 3: And we won't debate whether or not there are works
- 10:35Speaker 3: that will bring glory to God. But you might remember
- 10:39Speaker 3: that I said from my own personal experience, may not
- 10:45Speaker 3: be yours, but it has certainly been mine. And my
- 10:49Speaker 3: understanding is that what brings glory to God is not
- 10:55Speaker 3: what we do for him, but it is what he
- 11:00Speaker 3: does through us. And because of that, we have his
- 11:06Speaker 3: means of being the servant. He is the example of
- 11:14Speaker 3: servant leadership, the example of servant leadership. love. He's not
- 11:21Speaker 3: conceited or puffed up. He's not in any way envying
- 11:29Speaker 3: a position. He simply loves. And if we can simply love,
- 11:37Speaker 3: then we will bear one another's burdens. You might recall
- 11:42Speaker 3: in that particular passage, it says, brothers, if someone is
- 11:48Speaker 3: caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual should restore
- 11:55Speaker 3: such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for
- 12:00Speaker 3: yourselves so you won't be tempted also. And then he
- 12:06Speaker 3: talks about carrying one another's burdens. They work hand in hand.
- 12:13Speaker 3: How does it present itself? Well, you see, We're in
- 12:18Speaker 3: this constant battle between the old nature, which is being crucified.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Paul even made the statement that he must die daily.
- 12:30Speaker 3: He's referring to those things of the old nature that
- 12:36Speaker 3: seem to remain. And he wants that to be eliminated, crucified,
- 12:43Speaker 3: so that his life can bring glory to God. And
- 12:48Speaker 3: our life can bring glory to God in the same manner.
- 12:53Speaker 3: The fruit of the Spirit is the result of a
- 12:58Speaker 3: submitted life to the Holy Spirit. You see, believer, the
- 13:04Speaker 3: fruit of the Spirit is what is exemplified as we
- 13:09Speaker 3: demonstrate love one to another. And it is this that
- 13:15Speaker 3: will cause others to know that we are truly the
- 13:20Speaker 3: followers of the Lord Jesus Christ because we show love
- 13:28Speaker 3: one to another.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 13:33Speaker 2: But if you just joined us, you've been listening to

- 14:15Speaker 2: today's message.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Think about this for just a moment. Have you been
- 14:22Speaker 3: faced with a situation where a brother or a sister,
- 14:28Speaker 3: someone that is within your community, a professing believer, perhaps
- 14:36Speaker 3: not as mature a believer as might be desired, but
- 14:43Speaker 3: yet a believer nevertheless, and they Fall into some means of. Wrongdoing.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Or they. Commit sin. Perhaps not willfully. But certainly. They are.
- 15:01Speaker 3: The same. Result. That is effective. Because sin is sin.
- 15:08Speaker 3: And until that sin is dealt with.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It is.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Still. Going to carry. Its penalty.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Now.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection completely replaces the power of
- 15:26Speaker 3: sin in a believer's life. But it has to be appropriated.
- 15:31Speaker 3: And the Holy Spirit comes into us to guide us
- 15:38Speaker 3: into truth, to keep us in the Word, to keep
- 15:44Speaker 3: us in fellowship with one with another, in fellowship with
- 15:49Speaker 3: the Lord Jesus Christ. He does these things so that
- 15:55Speaker 3: we can exemplify love one to another. We'll talk more
- 16:03Speaker 3: about how that's accomplished in the next segment. And that
- 16:08Speaker 3: is today's reflection on the Word.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 16:15Speaker 2: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 16:18Speaker 2: Richard Kay. For Richard and the entire team, this is
- 16:21Speaker 2: Chuck Christie saying thanks for listening to this edition of
- 16:24Speaker 2: Reflections on the Word.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Great is thy faithfulness, born unto me. Great is thy faithfulness. Lord,
- 16:45Speaker 1: unto me.
