- 0:15Speaker 1: you know. Just back every week and we love it.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We love you being here with us.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Trey, what we missed last week? Do the people know that?
- 0:22Speaker 2: They do know that?
- 0:24Speaker 1: He released an episode for the Hallmark movie and we
- 0:28Speaker 1: taped that like the first week of the season, so
- 0:30Speaker 1: we aired that. But Trey's back. He's happy to be back.
- 0:32Speaker 1: He was bummed to miss.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Week this Week four three Week.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Three Week three with me, We're back.
- 0:38Speaker 2: How can I miss?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Come on now, Trey, you had a nice long weekend.
- 0:43Speaker 1: What'd you do?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Sleep? Sleep? More sleep? We got back from uh you
- 0:51Speaker 2: guys got back from Houston. Yeah, it was like five o'clock.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Didn't go to sleep till like six thirty.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And by that time your kids are probably already awake, yea.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Getting ready for school. Well seven thirty, so I had
- 1:03Speaker 2: another hour.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Before they So you had an hour sleep and then
- 1:06Speaker 1: you were up with the kiddos.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah, trying trying to help assist a little bit, yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 2: getting to get them out the door. But after that
- 1:14Speaker 2: I stepped a little bit for like probably maybe an
- 1:17Speaker 2: hour after that had to be here workouts, team meeting, meetings,
- 1:24Speaker 2: And yeah, are you.
- 1:25Speaker 1: A coffee guy? When you need some caffeine or when
- 1:27Speaker 1: you need some energy or just you just operate off
- 1:29Speaker 1: of chocolate chip cookies to get you.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Through for sure, most definitely chocolate chip cookies. No coffee.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I'm not a big coffee guy. When when I first
- 1:37Speaker 2: got into the league, like a lot of people told,
- 1:40Speaker 2: like Kyle, he was the first one. He was like,
- 1:41Speaker 2: you drink coffee.
- 1:42Speaker 1: He's like I was like, no, He's like, son, let
- 1:44Speaker 1: me tell you about coffee.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Come on now with Christmas, Christmas senagalue, you know, Christmas
- 1:49Speaker 2: coming up, So Santa Claus beer he had. But yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 2: he was telling me about year two or three that
- 1:55Speaker 2: I was going to be a big coffee guy. But
- 1:56Speaker 2: still to this day, year nine, no coffee. I'm more
- 2:00Speaker 2: of a uh to get up in the morning. You
- 2:03Speaker 2: know orange juice? Nice, I get that every morning, freshly
- 2:07Speaker 2: squeezed orange juice. You know some some good stuff that
- 2:10Speaker 2: we have here. But no coffee, No coffee, no coffee.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Did you do anything fun?
- 2:16Speaker 2: Hhmm? Did I you know what took the kids? We
- 2:21Speaker 2: went to We went to Walmart. It was like, you
- 2:25Speaker 2: know what, since you guys was good while I was
- 2:27Speaker 2: away on the on the way trip, let's just let's
- 2:30Speaker 2: let's let's go down this tyle. Let's let's see what
- 2:32Speaker 2: we can get.
- 2:33Speaker 1: You know, you're just inviting chaos.
- 2:35Speaker 2: You know. So we were down here Walmart off Southwestern,
- 2:39Speaker 2: down here in Hamburg, and we we had a great time.
- 2:42Speaker 2: What they get, uh, I can tell you that skateboard
- 2:48Speaker 2: we had. We got a puzzle, a thousand piece puzzle.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Then we're gonna put together as a family. We're gonna
- 2:52Speaker 2: do that. Tried to work on that last night. Didn't
- 2:55Speaker 2: go somewhere. That was the tip one. We got a skateboard.
- 2:58Speaker 2: What else did we get? We got bouncy balls every
- 3:02Speaker 2: time we go in the store. We got to get
- 3:03Speaker 2: a basketball and the football for sure. Got that. T
- 3:08Speaker 2: Davis just wanted the He wanted the tennis racket. Cool,
- 3:11Speaker 2: but we're gonna save that so for when we get
- 3:14Speaker 2: when we get back to the offseason. We can't do
- 3:15Speaker 2: tennis right now inside kickball. We got a couple more
- 3:20Speaker 2: other things, but I told them that they can get
- 3:22Speaker 2: two tours per kid, so that's six if I'm doing
- 3:26Speaker 2: my math correct, but I'm pretty sure you know, we
- 3:29Speaker 2: left with more than that. Yeah, so we had a
- 3:31Speaker 2: good time. We got home. Oh, we got a trampoline
- 3:34Speaker 2: for a little guy. So we got to indoor trampoline
- 3:37Speaker 2: for him that he's been enjoy I actually got on it,
- 3:41Speaker 2: but it's one hundred and seventy five pounds weight minimum
- 3:44Speaker 2: on it. But I got up there. I was able
- 3:48Speaker 2: to jump a couple. I jumped around a little bit,
- 3:50Speaker 2: but I was able. But it comes down to me
- 3:53Speaker 2: Dad setting everything up. So that was the part that
- 3:56Speaker 2: I didn't Yeah, that was part of it. So now
- 3:59Speaker 2: I'm for it because I hear all type of toys
- 4:02Speaker 2: and action figures going off right now. But anything for
- 4:06Speaker 2: the kids, anything for the kids.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Trey against Houston, you guys were fantastic in the second half.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You wow, twenty points in the first half, just three
- 4:15Speaker 1: in the second half, forced four punts in the second half.
- 4:18Speaker 1: When it comes to the second half adjustments, what was
- 4:21Speaker 1: the process to making those that week?
- 4:25Speaker 2: I just think that, you know, we just we just
- 4:26Speaker 2: honed in, we executed the plan. Not to say that
- 4:32Speaker 2: we didn't do that in the first half. You know,
- 4:33Speaker 2: sometimes you know, offenses make plays those guys are good too.
- 4:37Speaker 2: But I just feel like we honed in a little
- 4:39Speaker 2: bit more. We just had you know, more urgency, I
- 4:42Speaker 2: would say, but you know, we just played team defense.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And then whenever you do that, you know the all
- 4:47Speaker 2: chemra is good and you know, and watching the film,
- 4:50Speaker 2: like we hustled to the ball, leven hats to the ball,
- 4:52Speaker 2: It wasn't a lot of tape that players that you
- 4:56Speaker 2: see that was finished where you know you didn't have nine, ten,
- 4:58Speaker 2: eleven hats around the ball. So that's always a good
- 5:01Speaker 2: sign when you're when you see your defense hustling, all
- 5:04Speaker 2: good things always happen. So I feel like that we
- 5:06Speaker 2: did that a little bit more in the second half.
- 5:08Speaker 2: But I just feel like, you know, we can press
- 5:11Speaker 2: a little more, press the gas a little bit more
- 5:13Speaker 2: to you know, squeeze that thing out to help help
- 5:15Speaker 2: our team out.
- 5:15Speaker 1: For you as an individual on the field, when it
- 5:18Speaker 1: comes to the second half and making those adjustments, what
- 5:22Speaker 1: switches in your brain to hone in and play more aggressively.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Like I said, I I think that whenever you're a
- 5:29Speaker 2: smart player, you just try to see what the offense
- 5:31Speaker 2: attacking you at and then you just go in the
- 5:34Speaker 2: second half, you see the same formation, or you see
- 5:36Speaker 2: the way the offense is lined up, you just know
- 5:39Speaker 2: that you know they're not really gonna deviate too much
- 5:41Speaker 2: from what they've done in the first half. They may
- 5:43Speaker 2: throw a cute few wrinkles in there, but for the
- 5:47Speaker 2: most part, they're gonna come back to successful plays. And
- 5:49Speaker 2: I feel like, you know, as a defensive back for myself,
- 5:52Speaker 2: if I see a guy you know, maybe got me
- 5:54Speaker 2: on the route in the quarterback didn't see him, I
- 5:57Speaker 2: just make sure, like if I see that formation again,
- 5:59Speaker 2: then I'm pretty much tighter on my coverage or do
- 6:02Speaker 2: a little something different than my technique to where I
- 6:04Speaker 2: could be successful and finish the play in a successful manner.
- 6:08Speaker 2: But it's so tough as a defensive back because you know,
- 6:10Speaker 2: at any given time, you know the offense can run
- 6:13Speaker 2: a double move off the play that you've seen, so
- 6:17Speaker 2: you sort of always want to be I mean, be
- 6:20Speaker 2: smart in situations to know like when you can take
- 6:22Speaker 2: chances or like in this coverage, I can pretty much
- 6:25Speaker 2: take a chance I know my safety got me over
- 6:27Speaker 2: the top, or I don't have a safety this play.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I may got to be more a little bit more
- 6:31Speaker 2: conservative and play top down, to not give up the
- 6:34Speaker 2: double move because I know I don't have help. So
- 6:36Speaker 2: it's just all those scenarios as a defensive back when
- 6:39Speaker 2: I go in in the second half, to always be
- 6:41Speaker 2: out on high alert, but also always try to play
- 6:44Speaker 2: aggressive to make a play too.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You said the Bills defense has a veteran led defense.
- 6:48Speaker 1: There's also some rookies who are playing meaningful snaps on
- 6:51Speaker 1: defense and learning about what it's like to make second
- 6:55Speaker 1: half adjustments in an NFL game. What is your communication
- 6:58Speaker 1: like with Maxwell harriston what its making changes.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I just, you know, I don't want to be in
- 7:04Speaker 2: this area so much. But it's all about Max getting
- 7:07Speaker 2: out there and getting the reps and getting out there
- 7:09Speaker 2: and just being able to see things from what from
- 7:12Speaker 2: his skill set because I can tell him, yeah, man,
- 7:16Speaker 2: go out there when he hit this point, that's when
- 7:19Speaker 2: you open up and break. But my body's different from his,
- 7:22Speaker 2: and you you just gotta as like I always said,
- 7:25Speaker 2: like cornerback is such so much of a like a
- 7:28Speaker 2: feel position to where it's like nobody can really like
- 7:32Speaker 2: tell you exactly what movements to make in a certain
- 7:35Speaker 2: situation because everybody's body is different. Also, he may can
- 7:41Speaker 2: get to this point quicker than I can get to
- 7:43Speaker 2: this point. Or this receiver gets to this point at
- 7:47Speaker 2: a certain certain distance, but this receiver don't. But I
- 7:51Speaker 2: played against him before you have. You know, it's just
- 7:53Speaker 2: so many situations that goes into like playing defensive back
- 7:56Speaker 2: at a high level, it's all about angles. It's about
- 7:59Speaker 2: you know, being balanced, having a strong lore about it,
- 8:02Speaker 2: all the things that he has, but you know, just
- 8:04Speaker 2: putting it all together. And also it's the mind thing,
- 8:07Speaker 2: like you know, getting beat on the route, but then
- 8:09Speaker 2: coming back to the next play, having the confidence to
- 8:11Speaker 2: have the same technique and do it over again, just
- 8:14Speaker 2: knowing like it's not you. It's just sometimes it just happens.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Like if you line up consistently each and every time
- 8:20Speaker 2: and do it the same way each and every time
- 8:21Speaker 2: with confidence and poise, like you're gonna win more than
- 8:25Speaker 2: you lose. So in this position, that's what it's all about.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And keeping that confidence which he has. So he's been
- 8:30Speaker 2: doing a great job. You know, just in front of
- 8:32Speaker 2: Miami game getting in you know, Jenny Wildam making an
- 8:36Speaker 2: incredible catch, but he coming back in the second half
- 8:39Speaker 2: and making a big time interception on a similar play
- 8:43Speaker 2: where the quarterback through the ball and on a deep
- 8:45Speaker 2: ball and he was like and he was in great position.
- 8:48Speaker 2: So it's just like with cornerback, that's all of this.
- 8:52Speaker 2: You can go out there and cover a guy sixty
- 8:55Speaker 2: plays the best and then on the sixty first play
- 9:00Speaker 2: you're not at your best. But that's just the world
- 9:02Speaker 2: that we live in. Like, so you just got to have,
- 9:04Speaker 2: like I always say that on my dealer skin, to
- 9:06Speaker 2: be able to just shake off anything and go back
- 9:08Speaker 2: out there and just give it your best effort each
- 9:10Speaker 2: and every time. So that's all the cornerbacks the ball.
- 9:14Speaker 2: It's as I say, it's like hand to hand combat.
- 9:17Speaker 2: It's like you can't go over up there against a
- 9:20Speaker 2: good receiver and give them the same look each and
- 9:22Speaker 2: every time. You got to switch it up a little bit.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You gotta have a great foundation. You got to have
- 9:26Speaker 2: a good change up. But at the end of the day,
- 9:28Speaker 2: if you have that that fastball, that consistent fastball, you've
- 9:33Speaker 2: had so many reps at doing it this way and
- 9:35Speaker 2: it works and you consistent and you confident in it,
- 9:39Speaker 2: like you're going to be good. So like if you
- 9:41Speaker 2: have that mindset playing this position like which he has
- 9:45Speaker 2: he's going to be great in this league for a
- 9:46Speaker 2: long time.
- 9:47Speaker 1: So yeah, it's important to have thick skin in the league,
- 9:51Speaker 1: especially at cornerback, like you say, because you could allow
- 9:54Speaker 1: a pass on one play and or catch on one play,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and then the next play you have to clear your
- 9:59Speaker 1: mind and be ready to go in attack mode. Again,
- 10:02Speaker 1: where did you learn to have that pick skin trialing error?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Like I said, I mean, I wasn't. I wasn't always
- 10:09Speaker 2: like this, you know, just growing up, just being a competitor,
- 10:12Speaker 2: like you always want to be at your best no
- 10:15Speaker 2: matter what and no matter who you're playing against. But
- 10:19Speaker 2: you gotta go into this thing knowing, like all your
- 10:22Speaker 2: whole hard work, you know at some point it's gonna
- 10:25Speaker 2: play off, but it may not be where you want
- 10:27Speaker 2: it to, but it's gonna come. But saying that to
- 10:30Speaker 2: say this, like at cornerback, it's just one of those
- 10:34Speaker 2: positions to where it's like you constantly gotta redefine yourself
- 10:38Speaker 2: in try to find new ways to get better, because
- 10:41Speaker 2: you know this league is moving at a rapid pace
- 10:44Speaker 2: and the guys that you know hone in on the
- 10:47Speaker 2: fundamentals are the best ones like great eyes, great hands,
- 10:51Speaker 2: great feet, like those are the things it takes to
- 10:53Speaker 2: be great. But I just feel like for me praying
- 10:55Speaker 2: this position and playing it at a high level, having
- 10:59Speaker 2: games and stretches where I'm not my best, in having
- 11:02Speaker 2: games and stretches where I am my best, like the best,
- 11:06Speaker 2: the best advice is just never be too high, never
- 11:08Speaker 2: be too low, because like this game has a great
- 11:13Speaker 2: way of humbling those who think they haven't figured out
- 11:16Speaker 2: any given sunday, like anybody cannot be at their best
- 11:21Speaker 2: like any player, any team, like any coach, like it
- 11:23Speaker 2: don't matter who, any trainer, like you can have those days.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So it's just like playing this position, like you gotta
- 11:30Speaker 2: go in into it with the mindset is like I'm
- 11:33Speaker 2: gonna work extremely hard and I'm gonna have days even
- 11:35Speaker 2: though I worked extremely hell at my craft, I'm gonna
- 11:37Speaker 2: have days when I'm not my best, And you gotta
- 11:40Speaker 2: be okay with that. And like you gotta be okay
- 11:42Speaker 2: with preparing to be like perfect but knowing like you'll
- 11:47Speaker 2: never be perfect. You have to be okay with that.
- 11:49Speaker 2: And that's something that I battled with early on in
- 11:51Speaker 2: my career. Just now me being an older guy, being
- 11:54Speaker 2: a guy that played the game for a long time,
- 11:56Speaker 2: like I learned. I know that, So no matter what
- 12:00Speaker 2: the outcome of a play or a series or a
- 12:02Speaker 2: game or a couple of games, like, my confidence will
- 12:05Speaker 2: never wait because I know, like this is what I
- 12:08Speaker 2: signed up for, this is what it is. I can
- 12:10Speaker 2: work extremely hard and it not go my way, but
- 12:14Speaker 2: I'm still gonna come back and work extremely hard because
- 12:16Speaker 2: I know at some point it's gonna go my way.
- 12:18Speaker 2: So you got to have that in anything, in football
- 12:21Speaker 2: and life and anything, but just for for this position.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Like the best ones know that and understand that, so
- 12:27Speaker 2: they okay with the outcome of a play and not
- 12:30Speaker 2: letting that dictate who they who they are as a
- 12:34Speaker 2: as a player like or they or their attitude towards
- 12:37Speaker 2: themselves as who How can I explain this. Don't let
- 12:43Speaker 2: like a temporary like outcome of a of a play
- 12:46Speaker 2: or or a series dictate who you are as a
- 12:48Speaker 2: player like because that don't like take the rest of
- 12:51Speaker 2: the game. Know that too, But like the longevity, all
- 12:54Speaker 2: the work that you put in like that can't be
- 12:56Speaker 2: to be racist. So that's that's the beauty of the
- 12:59Speaker 2: game too, because you got it. Like I said, you
- 13:01Speaker 2: gotta constantly find ways to get better because like this
- 13:05Speaker 2: league is moving and it's gonna continue to. So that's
- 13:07Speaker 2: that's the beauty of by like being a competitor, being
- 13:10Speaker 2: someone that you know plays the game and plays disposition,
- 13:13Speaker 2: and also just being someone that loves to compete, like
- 13:16Speaker 2: just know, like they got guys that love to compete
- 13:18Speaker 2: just like you. So it's going to be another end
- 13:21Speaker 2: and battle of ups and downs. But the best ones
- 13:24Speaker 2: that can deal with that physically and mentally, all these
- 13:27Speaker 2: great ones.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Some great words of wisdom for me right there?
- 13:32Speaker 2: Too much right now?
- 13:33Speaker 1: No, I like it, Let's do it? Who cares? Yeah?
- 13:36Speaker 2: But nah, But like once I get when I get
- 13:38Speaker 2: to talking about you know, disposition, because I just love
- 13:40Speaker 2: it so much about it, I like I like to
- 13:43Speaker 2: like give insight on it because you know, I lived
- 13:46Speaker 2: it and I'm living it in real time and I
- 13:48Speaker 2: just know how it could be mentally and physically on
- 13:51Speaker 2: people like each and every day even practice, like you
- 13:56Speaker 2: grand your confidence from practice, but like it'd be times
- 13:58Speaker 2: where you don't have you be a been said at
- 14:00Speaker 2: practicing you get to like, hold on, am I not
- 14:03Speaker 2: that good? Like it's just it's never ending battle. So
- 14:06Speaker 2: like the ones that could like breast it off to
- 14:08Speaker 2: the side and just hone in on that moment and
- 14:11Speaker 2: continue to get better no matter the outcome of a
- 14:14Speaker 2: play or a series like those are the ones that
- 14:16Speaker 2: last long and play well, play well football, and I
- 14:20Speaker 2: mean play good football and make big time players.
- 14:22Speaker 1: There's a lot of guys inside this building who are
- 14:24Speaker 1: really hard workers and do things that none of us
- 14:28Speaker 1: see because it's in the meetings, it's during practices, it's
- 14:32Speaker 1: in the weight room. We are starting something called Dog
- 14:36Speaker 1: of the Week where Trey White is gonna give us
- 14:39Speaker 1: his dog of the week. This could be from the game,
- 14:42Speaker 1: this could be what he's seeing in the facility that
- 14:45Speaker 1: we don't get to see. Trey, who is your first
- 14:48Speaker 1: dog of the week?
- 14:50Speaker 2: I wish we could could have been giving this out man.
- 14:53Speaker 2: He like, I know, we got so many dogs. Let's
- 14:56Speaker 2: first of all, let's say that we got so many
- 14:57Speaker 2: people that's deserving it. But this is a person that
- 15:00Speaker 2: I get to see more more than I get to
- 15:03Speaker 2: see a little bit more of my teammates because he's
- 15:05Speaker 2: in my room. But you know, I got to pass
- 15:08Speaker 2: it out to the DB's first, Like for the.
- 15:09Speaker 1: First one makes sense.
- 15:11Speaker 2: This guy here, like just like just to see the
- 15:15Speaker 2: growth because I wasn't here his first year and just
- 15:18Speaker 2: me coming in and just seeing the way that this
- 15:21Speaker 2: guy worked, like and his attention to detail, the way
- 15:26Speaker 2: he overcome like a little bit of adversity he may have,
- 15:31Speaker 2: or just like just his confidence and approach of like
- 15:37Speaker 2: making calls on the field, being confident in what he's
- 15:40Speaker 2: saying and going out there and exhilarating that but also
- 15:44Speaker 2: making plays and big time moments for all team. This
- 15:46Speaker 2: guy Cold Bishop, it is a dog.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I was wondering if this guy.
- 15:53Speaker 2: He's a dog like dog, dog like dog like not
- 15:58Speaker 2: at your wild wide dog.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Absolutely he looks like a dog on the field dog.
- 16:03Speaker 1: How awesome has it been to watch his transformation? I
- 16:06Speaker 1: know you weren't here for transformation you've seen from the
- 16:11Speaker 1: beginning of the season to where we're at now.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Just me coming in as you know, when I came
- 16:16Speaker 2: into OTAs, when we were just doing workouts, just because
- 16:20Speaker 2: I was able to work out with him, so I
- 16:22Speaker 2: was in a group with him. It was Taylor rapp
- 16:25Speaker 2: Uh myself in cole So they put us in a
- 16:28Speaker 2: group together, and you know, I like to lift a
- 16:31Speaker 2: little bit like I like to, but these guys, like
- 16:34Speaker 2: you know, these guys lift like lift like for real lyft.
- 16:39Speaker 2: But I could just see like the Honger and you
- 16:42Speaker 2: know a lot of I've I've been like working out
- 16:47Speaker 2: and like being in groups for a long time. And
- 16:50Speaker 2: you know, high school, you know, you see, you know
- 16:54Speaker 2: what what the work could do. But then when you
- 16:56Speaker 2: get to college, when everybody is competing to get to
- 17:00Speaker 2: that level that we also want to get to the NFL,
- 17:03Speaker 2: you see like people start to separate themselves, like and
- 17:07Speaker 2: the amount of work they do, and like when they're
- 17:10Speaker 2: in a group saying how they do it. But and
- 17:13Speaker 2: I've seen some of the best athletes. I've been around,
- 17:16Speaker 2: the Oldell Beckhams, I've been around the Leonard four Nets,
- 17:19Speaker 2: the whoever you want, like Collins, the Neil Hunters. I've
- 17:24Speaker 2: been around these guys. I know what they do in
- 17:26Speaker 2: the weight room and how much work it takes. But
- 17:29Speaker 2: like coming here and then coming to the NFL and
- 17:31Speaker 2: seeing it too and see like how the work off
- 17:35Speaker 2: the field, you know, translate to on the field. But
- 17:38Speaker 2: I was able to see it early, like I could
- 17:40Speaker 2: tell that he had something that he wanted to prove
- 17:43Speaker 2: coming into this year even though I wasn't here it
- 17:45Speaker 2: last year, but I didn't know what was feeding at hunger, like,
- 17:48Speaker 2: but I could just see the confidence just like build
- 17:51Speaker 2: and build and build and build. And I'm just watching
- 17:54Speaker 2: like as me because I'm you know, I'm I'm new
- 17:58Speaker 2: in a sense to who he is. But like obviously,
- 18:02Speaker 2: you know, he knew who I was because we you know,
- 18:04Speaker 2: we pretty much talked a little bit like as we
- 18:06Speaker 2: were working out and stuff, but but just meet and
- 18:09Speaker 2: then fast forward to OTA's going out to the practices
- 18:12Speaker 2: and then coming back going to training camp, and then
- 18:16Speaker 2: once we got to the games and we got a
- 18:18Speaker 2: couple under his belt, and then once he made that
- 18:21Speaker 2: player against the Saints, I was like okay, And then
- 18:26Speaker 2: a couple more weeks he the ball continued to find him.
- 18:29Speaker 3: You know.
- 18:29Speaker 2: It's always something that we always say, like takeaways coming
- 18:32Speaker 2: bunches when you get that first one, like they just
- 18:35Speaker 2: start to come. But this guy's he's a ball magnet.
- 18:38Speaker 2: He's making players on the ball. He's making you know,
- 18:41Speaker 2: t for l's. But like that's just the end result
- 18:44Speaker 2: of like what he put in before. Like that's a
- 18:48Speaker 2: real testament of like real hard work. It does pay off.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Like so it was like so great to see, like
- 18:55Speaker 2: we got so many more examples, but like this is
- 18:57Speaker 2: just me coming in as somebody wasn't here last year
- 19:00Speaker 2: and seeing a guy like that wants it like that
- 19:03Speaker 2: legit wants it. But ultimately like it's a talented as
- 19:07Speaker 2: football Like a legit player like that can play at
- 19:10Speaker 2: a hot level, like can run jump. He has like
- 19:14Speaker 2: so much knowledge of the game, like he knows what's
- 19:16Speaker 2: what's coming, Like so much knowledge of the defense too,
- 19:19Speaker 2: like reading formations, like seeing plays before they happen, like
- 19:24Speaker 2: making checks before they happen. So it's like all those
- 19:28Speaker 2: all those things in the second year players in this
- 19:31Speaker 2: defense for safety and it's not it's not it's not
- 19:34Speaker 2: the easiest.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Us all the time.
- 19:38Speaker 2: It's a lot like a lot of communication, a lot
- 19:40Speaker 2: of what is we have so many calls and checks
- 19:42Speaker 2: to be on the same page and for him to
- 19:44Speaker 2: be able to do that, dinogs to play the formations,
- 19:48Speaker 2: put itself in position, make calls to the corners to
- 19:51Speaker 2: make sure we're on the same page and then look
- 19:52Speaker 2: at the look at the offense and see where he
- 19:55Speaker 2: can make a play and go out there and do
- 19:57Speaker 2: that in the midst of you only have fit really
- 20:01Speaker 2: thirty twenty seconds, yeah, to be able to get the
- 20:03Speaker 2: call line up, make some adjustments if the offense motional shift,
- 20:08Speaker 2: which we know they're gone because eighty ninety percent the
- 20:11Speaker 2: offense emotional shift, they're not gonna show you the same picture.
- 20:14Speaker 2: And he's able to do that, diagnose all defense, know
- 20:17Speaker 2: where he's supposed to be, and then put hisself in position,
- 20:20Speaker 2: communicate with the corners and the linebackers, and be able
- 20:24Speaker 2: to make the play in the midst of like that twenties,
- 20:27Speaker 2: Like you don't understand how hard that is. That's so tough,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and to be physical too in that manner too, Like
- 20:34Speaker 2: I have so much respect for like the things that
- 20:37Speaker 2: the safeties do in the defense, like for all our players,
- 20:40Speaker 2: but like just to be a young guy to come
- 20:42Speaker 2: on and be a starter, to play in this defense
- 20:45Speaker 2: as a safety, to make all the checks and go
- 20:47Speaker 2: in and make the plays while the bullets are flying,
- 20:51Speaker 2: Like that's so hard, Like so that's that's a dog
- 20:54Speaker 2: like a dog like but it's up here too, like
- 20:59Speaker 2: to where it's like man like he's seeing it before
- 21:02Speaker 2: he comes. Like you could just see a player like
- 21:04Speaker 2: starting to see and like I'm just speaking from the
- 21:08Speaker 2: work that I've seen like over the last with how
- 21:12Speaker 2: I've been seven eight months, But this got a dog
- 21:15Speaker 2: man like But it started like from like little habits
- 21:19Speaker 2: of a way, you know, just little stuff like that,
- 21:22Speaker 2: But like this guy is a dog and I enjoyed
- 21:25Speaker 2: playing with him because like as somebody just watching him
- 21:28Speaker 2: players because I remember when I like I came in
- 21:30Speaker 2: as a young guy and just going to the second
- 21:32Speaker 2: year thirty like just seeing like guys that's you know,
- 21:35Speaker 2: a little bit older, just seeing how you know they
- 21:38Speaker 2: like man like respect you man like you start to
- 21:41Speaker 2: earn it, and like that becomes something that your teammates
- 21:44Speaker 2: expect too, because like they started to expect you to
- 21:48Speaker 2: make those big tastes. But as a as a competitor
- 21:51Speaker 2: and as a as a as a ball player, like
- 21:53Speaker 2: that's what you want, Like that's what you want, like
- 21:56Speaker 2: in the midst of it's nothing like in a fourth quarter,
- 22:01Speaker 2: like your teammates like you going out there and your
- 22:03Speaker 2: teammates looking at you like I know, like I know
- 22:05Speaker 2: he's about to make up play for the team to
- 22:07Speaker 2: get us the ball back, like like you don't know
- 22:10Speaker 2: how many times, like I've been in there in my career.
- 22:12Speaker 2: It's like, man like I swear, it's like it's been
- 22:17Speaker 2: like four or five times. Jit Well, I told somebody,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I was like, Nook, I'm about to get the ball,
- 22:23Speaker 2: like I'm about to bring the ball back, and I
- 22:25Speaker 2: brought the ball back. This guy is bringing the ball back,
- 22:30Speaker 2: Daddy like he's bringing the ball back. But he ain't
- 22:32Speaker 2: saying he's bringing the ball back. He's just going out
- 22:34Speaker 2: there and.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Doing that quite confidence.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Dog though.
- 22:37Speaker 1: That's awesome. Phils Mafia is going to love to hear
- 22:41Speaker 1: this answer because it's been so awesome to see Cole
- 22:44Speaker 1: Bishup come onto the scene and you can see that
- 22:47Speaker 1: he's playing faster, not thinking as much, playing confidently, and
- 22:51Speaker 1: it's resulting in takeaways and passes, defense, and a lot
- 22:56Speaker 1: more in the future. We cannot wait for cold Bishup
- 22:58Speaker 1: to continue to grow up in this Bill's defense. We're
- 23:01Speaker 1: going to pitch to our interview now. It's with center
- 23:03Speaker 1: Connor McGovern, so enjoy it and we'll be back for
- 23:06Speaker 1: more after. Connor, thanks for coming on and hanging out,
- 23:09Speaker 1: talking a little ball and talking.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Some thanksgiving perfect. Thank you for having me.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Food and football your two favorite things.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Right, exactly easy enough.
- 23:16Speaker 1: You're in your second year playing center with the Bills.
- 23:19Speaker 1: How have you found a new home at this position?
- 23:21Speaker 4: Connor, Well, it's just kind of been I've been away
- 23:24Speaker 4: from my home. Like it just feels good to be
- 23:25Speaker 4: back in my natural position now second year, even more
- 23:28Speaker 4: comfortable with it. And it's just something in my entire
- 23:30Speaker 4: career I've been just trying to get back to.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Why have you been trying to get back to it?
- 23:34Speaker 3: I just what my natural position is.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Played a couple of years of guard and like very comfortable,
- 23:39Speaker 4: had a lot of fun and guard, but just always
- 23:42Speaker 4: been a center at heart, Always.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Been a center at heart. It's a position that you
- 23:46Speaker 1: have to do a lot of different things, and I
- 23:47Speaker 1: mean you are making sure your quarterback's okay, you are
- 23:50Speaker 1: snapping the football, You're communicating with your guards. Why is
- 23:54Speaker 1: a natural fit for you there?
- 23:57Speaker 4: I've always just liked that role, just making sure everyone's
- 23:59Speaker 4: on the same page, just taking control of commands like that,
- 24:02Speaker 4: and just I've just found that natural to me.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Well, you have to have a great communication with your
- 24:08Speaker 1: quarterback Josh Allen, A great relationship with Josh Allen when
- 24:11Speaker 1: it comes to playing center at that position. How has
- 24:14Speaker 1: your relationship grown with him specific to that really specific
- 24:18Speaker 1: to that position, I would.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Say just the trust that we have in each other anytime,
- 24:23Speaker 4: Like I'll make the calls if he makes calls. Like
- 24:25Speaker 4: last year when I first took a position, like he
- 24:27Speaker 4: was always double checking with me. Now it's whatever I
- 24:29Speaker 4: call he's comfortable with. Of course, he always has the
- 24:31Speaker 4: final say if he sees something differently and like last year,
- 24:36Speaker 4: my question a little bit, but no, if he wants
- 24:37Speaker 4: to change it, we're full into that and he's comfortable
- 24:40Speaker 4: with me. Like just the open dialogue. I'm not afraid
- 24:42Speaker 4: to tell him though, he's not afraid to tell me no,
- 24:44Speaker 4: and it just makes it better.
- 24:45Speaker 1: At the end of the day, what's the communication between
- 24:48Speaker 1: you two pre snap and once the ball is snapped?
- 24:51Speaker 3: So pre snap, there's a lot of something that they
- 24:53Speaker 3: come to the line.
- 24:54Speaker 4: I'm giving thumbs up thumbs down someplays, just telling them
- 24:56Speaker 4: to instantly get out. We don't like it, tell him
- 24:59Speaker 4: if we you like to play. He's always double checking
- 25:02Speaker 4: in like because sometimes he can't tell where guys are
- 25:04Speaker 4: aligned on the the D line.
- 25:06Speaker 3: So it's just we're always in constant communication before.
- 25:09Speaker 4: The snap, after snap, not so much like we'll have
- 25:11Speaker 4: a couple of times if one of us we'll end
- 25:14Speaker 4: up making wrong call or something. Both of us know.
- 25:16Speaker 4: We instantly just look at each other and we know
- 25:18Speaker 4: we could either we point to ourselves or we kind
- 25:20Speaker 4: of give a look at each other.
- 25:22Speaker 3: So we're always constantly communicating with.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Each other pre snap, and once the ball snapped, there's
- 25:27Speaker 1: ten seconds about that goes that goes by. It is
- 25:31Speaker 1: so quick that you are communicating these things and then
- 25:34Speaker 1: the play is unfolding. When you're in those few moments
- 25:37Speaker 1: before the ball snapped, or you're doing your most communication,
- 25:41Speaker 1: does it feel like time goes by slow, feel like
- 25:45Speaker 1: you have half a second and you need to get
- 25:47Speaker 1: ten words out.
- 25:48Speaker 4: It is going fast. But I live by the motto
- 25:50Speaker 4: and one we all live by is if we're all wrong,
- 25:53Speaker 4: then we're right. Like if five of us up front
- 25:56Speaker 4: are wrong together, then doing it right thing. And so
- 25:58Speaker 4: it's make a call, stick with it, don't just like
- 26:00Speaker 4: stumbling over and try to get the perfect look. Sometimes
- 26:02Speaker 4: the defense is gonna have a better call in you.
- 26:04Speaker 4: So long as we're all in the same page.
- 26:05Speaker 1: You can't be beat beyond your quarterback. You've got you know,
- 26:09Speaker 1: four other teammates on the line with you in terms
- 26:11Speaker 1: of offensive linemen, your guards, and your tackles, how do
- 26:15Speaker 1: you communicate with them before the snap?
- 26:17Speaker 4: So a lot of it, they can't hear me all
- 26:18Speaker 4: the way out there, so either they see where I'm pointing,
- 26:22Speaker 4: or most of the time that the guards are relaying
- 26:25Speaker 4: stuff to tackle and tackles relaying outside the tight ends.
- 26:28Speaker 4: And then when we're in third and long, like Ty Johnson,
- 26:30Speaker 4: he can't hear me when I'm making a call, especially
- 26:31Speaker 4: on the road, so he's falling where I'm pointing, like,
- 26:34Speaker 4: and then Josh is communicating to make sure so if
- 26:36Speaker 4: like say he's motioned out, it's gone back in. He
- 26:38Speaker 4: didn't know where I point at first, so Josh sees
- 26:40Speaker 4: where we're going, or maybe he changed the calls. He's
- 26:43Speaker 4: consecmuning tie, so we're all just it's just everyone's communicating
- 26:47Speaker 4: with each other.
- 26:48Speaker 1: It is amazing what happens in those moments, and just
- 26:52Speaker 1: simple pointing if you can't hear what you're saying, or
- 26:55Speaker 1: just a few simple words to orchestrate what unfolds in
- 26:59Speaker 1: the next six seconds.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not like we're having like open ended dialogue
- 27:02Speaker 4: going back for it. Sometimes it's literally just tap hat
- 27:04Speaker 4: pointing or just like come out, thumbs down, thumbs up,
- 27:07Speaker 4: stuff like that.
- 27:07Speaker 3: It's good enough.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Your rushing offense, the Bill's rushing offense has been dominant
- 27:13Speaker 1: this season, best in the league. You as an offensive
- 27:16Speaker 1: lineman and your teammates have been so good at opening
- 27:20Speaker 1: up rushing lines for the running backs. How long does
- 27:23Speaker 1: it take for something like this to happen.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, something like that.
- 27:27Speaker 4: It's been years in the process, like you saw, like
- 27:29Speaker 4: the past two years we've been good and getting better
- 27:31Speaker 4: and better and better, and then this year it's gone
- 27:33Speaker 4: off to the whole nother level. And a lot of
- 27:34Speaker 4: that to do with just the running backs in our
- 27:36Speaker 4: meetings and just seeing how like they think about hitting,
- 27:40Speaker 4: like hitting the hole, and then they see how we're
- 27:42Speaker 4: setting up the blocks. And it could be as simple
- 27:44Speaker 4: as like if they don't cut back too soon, like
- 27:47Speaker 4: they set up the blocks for us, if they just
- 27:48Speaker 4: really press it before they cut back. Just stuff like that,
- 27:51Speaker 4: Like you think it's like, oh, it's so easy, just
- 27:53Speaker 4: get the ball and run. They just find out little
- 27:55Speaker 4: tiny things that we can make better, like say like
- 27:58Speaker 4: I can have my head outside more like that gets
- 28:01Speaker 4: defensive flow over like the lineback to flow over the
- 28:02Speaker 4: top more and that sets a James cook for the
- 28:04Speaker 4: cut back.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Just little things like that, just placement.
- 28:07Speaker 4: So we're comfortable with each other and it's really shown
- 28:10Speaker 4: how much elevated even this year.
- 28:12Speaker 1: You spoke about James cook and the running backs being
- 28:14Speaker 1: in offensive line meetings together.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Yep.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Why has that been a big part of the success
- 28:20Speaker 1: on the field.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Just because they know we're doing what we're thinking about,
- 28:24Speaker 4: and then we know what they're thinking about. So like
- 28:26Speaker 4: when we have mid zone, say James Cooker really thinks
- 28:28Speaker 4: he's like, all right, this week, I really want to
- 28:29Speaker 4: press it and I'm thinking about coming back. How defense
- 28:32Speaker 4: flows over top. Or it could be simil as like
- 28:34Speaker 4: when we're playing in Carolina, like we're thinking about getting
- 28:36Speaker 4: in balld outside now because they have bigger guys up front,
- 28:39Speaker 4: so we want to get them running. So just being
- 28:41Speaker 4: in meetings and just knowing what each other like and
- 28:43Speaker 4: what we're seeing just helps everything out.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Cook has great vision, he believes, patient for the holes
- 28:50Speaker 1: to open up. One of the best running backs in
- 28:52Speaker 1: the league this year. What's shocked you the most about
- 28:54Speaker 1: his development?
- 28:55Speaker 4: His development, just how he reads a defense and like
- 28:58Speaker 4: he the good job he does setting up the blocks
- 29:00Speaker 4: for us, Like he doesn't get up and he's not
- 29:03Speaker 4: cutting or making moves too far evance, like, so we
- 29:06Speaker 4: can't get up to the linebackers.
- 29:07Speaker 3: He's pressing.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Press depressing allows us to get on linebackers and then
- 29:09Speaker 4: he's making a move, so it makes our job much
- 29:11Speaker 4: easier when he's doing a lead job back there.
- 29:14Speaker 1: When it comes to a running back like James Cook,
- 29:16Speaker 1: you look back to his time at Georgia, he was
- 29:19Speaker 1: not a big time starter. He wasn't their number one
- 29:23Speaker 1: running back. He grew into a role with Georgia, and
- 29:26Speaker 1: watch what he's done with the Bills in just four
- 29:28Speaker 1: seasons is amazing.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it's completely great to watch and like it's just
- 29:33Speaker 4: so much fun too, just seeing the enjoyment he gets it,
- 29:36Speaker 4: like you know, like he gets to that first level,
- 29:37Speaker 4: he's gone, like he can make anything happen, like make
- 29:40Speaker 4: guy miss here, miss there.
- 29:42Speaker 3: He gets to the smallest holes. It's just a lot
- 29:43Speaker 3: of fun watching him go.
- 29:45Speaker 1: When do you have a feel for, Oh, James Cook,
- 29:48Speaker 1: He's gonna go off in this game.
- 29:50Speaker 4: It's not really feeling because you know it's gonna happen
- 29:52Speaker 4: because like you give him a chance. You just need
- 29:55Speaker 4: to give him a small chance and he can take
- 29:56Speaker 4: it to the house at any time.
- 29:59Speaker 1: When you look at type of player that James Cook
- 30:01Speaker 1: is off the field, we'll say the man a few words.
- 30:05Speaker 1: How has he opened up more to you guys as
- 30:07Speaker 1: an offensive line.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Like he jokes around with us. It's a lot more
- 30:10Speaker 4: fun like he's definitely I would say over the past
- 30:12Speaker 4: two years with him, he's definitely opened up a lot
- 30:14Speaker 4: more Like he's not that Joschelle just walking around by himself,
- 30:17Speaker 4: very quiet reserve. Like now he's saying with the jokes,
- 30:19Speaker 4: he's talking to all of us like he's just he's
- 30:22Speaker 4: a lot more comfortable around this, I would say.
- 30:23Speaker 1: And why is his success just as much your success?
- 30:28Speaker 4: I would just say, just like always o line and
- 30:30Speaker 4: running back or just intertwined with whatever we do. If
- 30:33Speaker 4: we fail our blocks, he he's got to make multiple
- 30:36Speaker 4: guys miss. But just when we know we give him
- 30:39Speaker 4: a chance, he's there's no one better than him.
- 30:42Speaker 1: You spoke about his elite vision. You see the field
- 30:45Speaker 1: very well as an offensive lineman. From a football player's perspective,
- 30:50Speaker 1: what does elite vision mean to you.
- 30:52Speaker 4: As an O lineman or as a running back? Just
- 30:56Speaker 4: leave vision for him like he could see it, like
- 30:58Speaker 4: coming to like say, if I don't my head front
- 31:00Speaker 4: side of a block and he sees too much, go outside.
- 31:02Speaker 4: He's saying, all right, I'm just gonna press this and
- 31:04Speaker 4: then I'm going to cut back and make this guy
- 31:05Speaker 4: miss or he might see me. I've already covered up
- 31:08Speaker 4: front side, all right, I can easily get outside now
- 31:10Speaker 4: and just seeing little things and then he sees, like
- 31:12Speaker 4: past that, how a linebacker's fitting where he needs to
- 31:15Speaker 4: make a hole. And then sometimes if there's not a hole,
- 31:17Speaker 4: I'm just gonna lower shoulder and get two or three
- 31:18Speaker 4: yards out of this and just make something out of nothing.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Similar to the offensive lineman, things happen over such a
- 31:25Speaker 1: short period of time for running backs, and the way
- 31:27Speaker 1: that he's able to I think anticipate things that are
- 31:30Speaker 1: about to happen and then see it and whether it's
- 31:33Speaker 1: grab a first down or whether it's score a touchdown
- 31:36Speaker 1: for the team. It's been awesome to watch. Oh, it's
- 31:39Speaker 1: been so much for another person that's a part of
- 31:43Speaker 1: the offensive line room. That is a secret weapon. I
- 31:47Speaker 1: think to what you guys do is your offensive line
- 31:49Speaker 1: coach Aaron Kromer, Yes. What is so unique about the
- 31:52Speaker 1: way that he coaches?
- 31:53Speaker 4: I would say the best thing he does Like he
- 31:55Speaker 4: looks at everyone different, Like he knows me and Dion
- 31:58Speaker 4: aren't built same, Like we're not gonna block someone the
- 32:00Speaker 4: same way.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Like he goes all five of us.
- 32:02Speaker 4: He finds our strengths in our weaknesses, and he builds
- 32:04Speaker 4: upon those weaknesses, and he just elevates us up even
- 32:08Speaker 4: more like a lot of I've been around a lot
- 32:09Speaker 4: of coaches that just teach all five guys the same way.
- 32:12Speaker 4: It's we're not all built the same way. He does
- 32:14Speaker 4: a great job, but just find everyone's shrink and just
- 32:16Speaker 4: building up on that.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Why is it important to individualize what players are doing
- 32:21Speaker 1: and teach based off of that, Because.
- 32:24Speaker 4: No two guys are the same, and no two positions
- 32:25Speaker 4: are the same. Like Dave and Cibo, they're completely different players.
- 32:29Speaker 3: How they act.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Cyba's absolute freak of nature and Dave's a technician throw
- 32:33Speaker 4: and through. Like It's just they need to be taught differently,
- 32:36Speaker 4: and like they see the game differently too. It's like
- 32:38Speaker 4: how me and Dave are very visual learning like we
- 32:41Speaker 4: walked through we were asked a question when we're very
- 32:43Speaker 4: involved with everything going on, and other guys are just
- 32:46Speaker 4: like they need to go out and walk through things.
- 32:48Speaker 4: And just like we're all different learners, we're all just
- 32:51Speaker 4: different speaking. Chrome does a great job teaching everyone differently.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Chromer also gives off the vibe that he's just like
- 32:58Speaker 1: dad energy, just like nice sky energy. Why is he
- 33:03Speaker 1: a part of family here?
- 33:04Speaker 4: Oh it's just great. Like so he got mad at
- 33:06Speaker 4: mean back in the spring. When I call him, he's
- 33:08Speaker 4: like the Miss Rachel of the offensive line.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Yes, so he keeps us all in check, keeps us
- 33:13Speaker 4: all online. So it's kind of like he's running the
- 33:15Speaker 4: daycare sometimes, make sure we're all in check. But then
- 33:17Speaker 4: he's also teaching us and be simple as the thing,
- 33:19Speaker 4: like we're learning like three by one formations two by
- 33:23Speaker 4: two back in the spring, doing like simple insulid day one,
- 33:25Speaker 4: and just like when someone gets right, he's like good, good,
- 33:29Speaker 4: like literally just sounding it out for us, just taking
- 33:31Speaker 4: over step by step.
- 33:32Speaker 3: And it's a lot of fun. And now he's miss
- 33:34Speaker 3: Rachel for us.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Okay, if he's Miss Rachel, who are the cast of
- 33:37Speaker 1: characters on the offensive line.
- 33:39Speaker 4: I really don't know. I couldn't tell you that we
- 33:42Speaker 4: have a lot of characters up front outside.
- 33:44Speaker 3: It changes day to day to day very much. That
- 33:46Speaker 3: everyone has their own unique personality.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Okay, well every position group is also unique to the
- 33:51Speaker 1: team when it comes to the offensive line meeting room.
- 33:54Speaker 1: What is something that's in the offensive line meeting room
- 33:57Speaker 1: that is in other position meeting rooms? As in, what
- 34:00Speaker 1: do you mean, like object food? The room is laid out.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Yeah, So a lot of times we don't meet in
- 34:06Speaker 4: our own room. We meet in the team room just
- 34:08Speaker 4: because we're all very large human beings and it's very
- 34:11Speaker 4: tight for us to fit in the line room, so
- 34:13Speaker 4: we like having space. So we'll go in the team
- 34:14Speaker 4: meeting room and just literally just spread out over there
- 34:16Speaker 4: so we can all fit in the big chairs. So
- 34:18Speaker 4: a lot of a lot of the other guys coming
- 34:21Speaker 4: on the team and like they'll try to walk through
- 34:22Speaker 4: them and gott to yell and get off of our TV,
- 34:24Speaker 4: even though we're not really supposed to be in there,
- 34:26Speaker 4: but we take it over because it's more comfortable. When
- 34:28Speaker 4: we're in our actual meeting room. It's a tight little room,
- 34:31Speaker 4: but it's cozy for us, we always have the most snacks.
- 34:33Speaker 4: I would say our rookies always do a great child
- 34:36Speaker 4: decorating the rooms, even if that's for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
- 34:40Speaker 3: We decorate for everything.
- 34:41Speaker 4: So it's always a competition between us tight ends quarter
- 34:44Speaker 4: whoever has the rookies, and we got to make sure
- 34:46Speaker 4: our rookies decorate the room the best.
- 34:48Speaker 1: What did the room look like for Halloween?
- 34:50Speaker 5: Uh?
- 34:51Speaker 4: It literally just looked like someone came in and just
- 34:54Speaker 4: threw up Halloween all over the place. We had, like, oh,
- 34:57Speaker 4: fantastic job. Chased it a wonderful job. He had buckets,
- 35:00Speaker 4: candy everywhere, tables, rat Uh had lights, we had skeletons,
- 35:04Speaker 4: we had you name it.
- 35:05Speaker 3: We had in the room.
- 35:06Speaker 1: That's awesome. Who's the most interesting person in the offensive
- 35:10Speaker 1: line room?
- 35:12Speaker 3: Yeah? I don't even have to say why easily.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Who's somebody that keeps you on your toes in the
- 35:17Speaker 1: offensive line room?
- 35:19Speaker 3: Keeps me on my toes in which way? That keep
- 35:22Speaker 3: me on toes?
- 35:22Speaker 1: Whether it's uh, you can go either way anyway with this.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I mean, whether it's I don't know what I'm going
- 35:27Speaker 1: to expect from this person day to day, or keeps
- 35:30Speaker 1: you on your toes in he's got funny one liners
- 35:33Speaker 1: coming out the wazoo.
- 35:35Speaker 4: I would say it was Cyrus probably keeps you on
- 35:37Speaker 4: toes because you don't know what's going to come out
- 35:38Speaker 4: of his mouth, because like he's quiet most of the time.
- 35:40Speaker 4: Then all of a sudden, he'll just like sneakily say
- 35:42Speaker 4: something and it's usually only enough for me or Spencer
- 35:45Speaker 4: right next to him to hear it, and we'll start laughing,
- 35:47Speaker 4: and then he'll play off like he didn't say anything.
- 35:49Speaker 4: So it's just like subtle little things he'll do like
- 35:51Speaker 4: that you're not you're not expecting it, then, i'ld say.
- 35:54Speaker 4: On the other end that keeps you on the toes
- 35:56Speaker 4: is Dave like because he's always questioned things just how
- 36:00Speaker 4: we always see the game, Like we see the game
- 36:01Speaker 4: the same way, but we're always talking and how we
- 36:04Speaker 4: want to hit things, who we're gonna like just talking defense,
- 36:06Speaker 4: So like he's always keeping my toes. On the opposite
- 36:09Speaker 4: side of that, who's.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Got the most energy in the mornings in.
- 36:12Speaker 3: The room, Deon's a ball of energy all the time.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I feel like you're also a ball of energy.
- 36:17Speaker 4: I wouldn't say that in the mornings no, I'm a
- 36:20Speaker 4: morning person also, but like Deon's a whole nother. I
- 36:22Speaker 4: don't think he sleeps. He's always doing something going on.
- 36:25Speaker 4: He always has energy.
- 36:26Speaker 1: You're right, Okay, you guys have five to ten minutes
- 36:29Speaker 1: a free time before an offensive line meeting starts. What
- 36:32Speaker 1: is the group doing?
- 36:33Speaker 4: Well, half the guys are probably in the bathroom first off,
- 36:37Speaker 4: so that's right there. Everyone else is just relaxing, going on,
- 36:41Speaker 4: just talking about random things. Usually Chromer's in there early
- 36:45Speaker 4: with us, so we'll be talking about different things. Either
- 36:47Speaker 4: where guys want to eat recently, or we're plants like
- 36:50Speaker 4: they were on the road. So grim always a hexsascus
- 36:53Speaker 4: where we're going to dinner because some guys go out
- 36:55Speaker 4: to eat, some don't. Or it be Friday morning after
- 36:58Speaker 4: Thursday night we go off for all and dinner and
- 37:00Speaker 4: ask a question about that.
- 37:01Speaker 3: So most of the time it revolves around food.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I would say it's good, it's good. It's typical. But
- 37:07Speaker 1: so many people love food, and so many people talk
- 37:10Speaker 1: about food, and you guys know good food. You make
- 37:13Speaker 1: some really great food. Connor, Thanksgiving is coming up. What
- 37:16Speaker 1: is happening in a McGovern household during Thanksgiving?
- 37:20Speaker 4: There's gonna be a lot of food, a lot. So
- 37:23Speaker 4: most of the guys that don't have family in town,
- 37:25Speaker 4: I always come over our house.
- 37:26Speaker 3: We do my wife.
- 37:28Speaker 4: I would say, my wife doesn't most of the work
- 37:29Speaker 4: just because we're here all the time, so she's doing
- 37:32Speaker 4: a lot of the prepping. Get in the house ready,
- 37:34Speaker 4: so we have big spread. We always do. Obviously got
- 37:37Speaker 4: to do turkey, do ham. They'll kibosa also, so those
- 37:40Speaker 4: are our main meats and you just do all the size.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:43Speaker 4: So that's something I grew up like my family always
- 37:45Speaker 4: did for every holiday. I had a kasa, so I
- 37:47Speaker 4: can continue that tradition. Now some will do different appetizers, sides,
- 37:51Speaker 4: and just desserts pun desserts, so we always have a
- 37:55Speaker 4: huge spread.
- 37:56Speaker 1: You love Thanksgiving? Where is a rank amongst other holidays?
- 38:00Speaker 4: I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this.
- 38:02Speaker 4: It's one of the best, if not the best holiday
- 38:04Speaker 4: for me.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Number one, Are you confident putting it there?
- 38:10Speaker 4: It's honestly tied for Christmas in my heart, just everything
- 38:13Speaker 4: about Thanksgiving, the food, the fellowship, everything, just I'm a
- 38:18Speaker 4: fall guy through and through, Like I much rather fall
- 38:20Speaker 4: over the winter, and I think everything kind of adds up,
- 38:25Speaker 4: like obviously, yeah, Christmas is Christmas, Like it's hard to
- 38:28Speaker 4: be but just something about thanks gaveon just always just
- 38:31Speaker 4: resonates with me.
- 38:32Speaker 1: What's your favorite dish for Thanksgiving?
- 38:35Speaker 3: So?
- 38:36Speaker 4: I like just making like a gobbler sandwich, like literally
- 38:39Speaker 4: it's all get whatever type of bread we have usually
- 38:41Speaker 4: some type of sweet Hawaiian roller or anything or whatever
- 38:44Speaker 4: role we have basically turkey stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce
- 38:49Speaker 4: on it, poor little and then close it up then
- 38:52Speaker 4: dip it in gravy.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's like my go to.
- 38:54Speaker 1: What's your most underrated dish for Thanksgiving? I think doesn't
- 38:58Speaker 1: get enough love, but is good stuff.
- 39:00Speaker 4: I feel like people not the corn bread stuff and
- 39:02Speaker 4: like true stuff, and I feel like no one gives
- 39:05Speaker 4: it time of today and you love it, love it,
- 39:07Speaker 4: love it.
- 39:07Speaker 1: What's something you can do without on Thanksgiving?
- 39:10Speaker 4: I do know everything I have is like I'm not
- 39:12Speaker 4: putting out anything bad. Everything I've literally so like people
- 39:15Speaker 4: are like, oh, like I don't do green big cash.
- 39:17Speaker 4: I don't like, like I'm not gonna put something out
- 39:19Speaker 4: in my house that I'm not gonna eat myself.
- 39:20Speaker 1: You know it makes sense. You love to cook. What
- 39:23Speaker 1: are you most proud of that you've cooked on Thanksgiving?
- 39:27Speaker 3: Most? Like?
- 39:28Speaker 4: The thing I enjoy the most and most proud of
- 39:30Speaker 4: is so my grandmother had her own recipe for how
- 39:32Speaker 4: she did her holiday ham. It's like a sweeter style.
- 39:35Speaker 4: I'm not going to tell you that the family secret
- 39:36Speaker 4: how we make it. That's probably my favorite thing to make.
- 39:39Speaker 4: And then I will say that's probably one thing my
- 39:42Speaker 4: oldest brother he makes and he makes it better than that.
- 39:44Speaker 4: So I'm still trying to put it so no one truly.
- 39:48Speaker 4: He's the only one that learned from her how to
- 39:50Speaker 4: make it, so he makes it the best. But I'm
- 39:52Speaker 4: slowly learning too.
- 39:53Speaker 1: How do you make your turkey?
- 39:56Speaker 3: I'm just as simple. Just roast it.
- 39:57Speaker 4: I've done it before, I've smoked it Friday. I'm just classic,
- 40:01Speaker 4: just roasted and.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Through and that tastes the best to you.
- 40:04Speaker 3: Still moist, so good, it's still very good, always moist.
- 40:07Speaker 4: That's like some people I don't know, line, I won't
- 40:09Speaker 4: name names that don't like Thanksgiving.
- 40:11Speaker 3: They know who they are. Always say turkey's dry.
- 40:14Speaker 4: I'm like, then you're making it wrong, Like it's not
- 40:16Speaker 4: my fault that you make your turkey dry and you
- 40:19Speaker 4: think it's overrating.
- 40:20Speaker 3: I make it every time. It's moist. It's delicious.
- 40:23Speaker 4: I like Thanksgiving in Turkey so much that my wife
- 40:25Speaker 4: gives me allotted shit for this. And at least once
- 40:28Speaker 4: a month I'll make like a Thanksgiving meal.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Yeah, once a month.
- 40:32Speaker 4: At least once a month, Yeah, I'll go get a
- 40:34Speaker 4: tury giant turkey breast, roast it, make all the sides,
- 40:37Speaker 4: and then for all about three or four days I'm making.
- 40:40Speaker 1: What work does that take to do once a month?
- 40:43Speaker 3: It's honestly not that bad.
- 40:44Speaker 4: Like I'll do it like a Sunday or Monday, like
- 40:46Speaker 4: out of the season, usually Sunday during the season Monday,
- 40:50Speaker 4: and it's just a couple of hours to roast turkey.
- 40:52Speaker 3: And then you just make the side. It's really not
- 40:53Speaker 3: the hard.
- 40:54Speaker 1: You must be a speed cooker, because I think if
- 40:56Speaker 1: I tried to do that it would take me twelve hours.
- 40:59Speaker 4: It doesn't take that much. Like it obviously you're making
- 41:01Speaker 4: the morning. It's ready in the afternoon. But like I
- 41:03Speaker 4: just it's one of those comfort.
- 41:05Speaker 3: Meals for me.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Thanksgiving so much that you have Thanksgiving once.
- 41:08Speaker 4: A month and then it's my wife and daughter hate it. Well,
- 41:11Speaker 4: it's just say they don't really tolerate it as once.
- 41:14Speaker 4: So I'm the only one eating, so i eat it
- 41:15Speaker 4: for three or four days, and then I'll give my
- 41:17Speaker 4: dog's tricky too on top of it. So it's me
- 41:19Speaker 4: and my two dogs eating Thanksgiving me or at least
- 41:21Speaker 4: once a month. A happy house exactly.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Okay, the food coma hits. What are you doing?
- 41:25Speaker 3: Eating more?
- 41:26Speaker 1: Eating more?
- 41:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I double down. I don't even care if we
- 41:30Speaker 4: weigh in on Fridays. If I have to, I mean
- 41:33Speaker 4: so much that they sin. But luckily so we do
- 41:36Speaker 4: our whole feast downstairs. So we do a whole tables,
- 41:39Speaker 4: everything out in the basement, spread out and lucky I
- 41:42Speaker 4: got a gigantic couch on there. So as many but
- 41:45Speaker 4: I think last year we had like six people sleeping
- 41:46Speaker 4: on it's six offensive line and sleeping on the couch
- 41:48Speaker 4: at once.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Everyone was just out cooholed.
- 41:50Speaker 1: That is amazing. Well, Connor, I'm so happy that your
- 41:54Speaker 1: favorite holiday is right around the corner and you get
- 41:56Speaker 1: to celebrate it and make all the great food excited.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Can't wait.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Thanks for coming. We hope you enjoyed that interview with
- 42:04Speaker 1: Connor McGovern he loves Thanksgiving so much. Instances Thanksgiving week,
- 42:08Speaker 1: We're going to continue the conversation about Thanksgiving, Trey. What's
- 42:12Speaker 1: a Thanksgiving like in the White household we eat.
- 42:15Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you that we get some food, some food,
- 42:18Speaker 2: get ate Thanksgiving the Thanksgiving table. Hate to see us coming.
- 42:23Speaker 2: We have so many dishes like on a table that
- 42:26Speaker 2: that we you know, spread out each and every year.
- 42:29Speaker 1: And you say it's not a traditional Thanksgiving.
- 42:32Speaker 2: It's never what makes it unique? Well, obviously you know
- 42:35Speaker 2: it's not never. It's never going to be traditional, you know,
- 42:38Speaker 2: being with the schedule that I have, so we try
- 42:42Speaker 2: to make it, make it work. But when we do,
- 42:46Speaker 2: it goes down. We got a lot that's on the table.
- 42:50Speaker 2: But I'm gonna I'm gonna name three baked mac and cheese.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Who's making the baked mac and cheese?
- 42:58Speaker 2: It just depends on where we are. Where we are,
- 43:00Speaker 2: like who who do we have coming up that time?
- 43:04Speaker 2: Stuffed bell peppers?
- 43:05Speaker 1: Where are they stuff.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Me rice? However, you want to top it off like
- 43:14Speaker 2: this is this is the thing, like this is what
- 43:16Speaker 2: we do. And then the gumbo, I know, like traditionally,
- 43:20Speaker 2: like people don't put gumbo on a on a Thanksgiving spread.
- 43:24Speaker 2: But from Louisiana, We're gonna have the gungo so this year.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Yeah so we yeah kids, Mom's coming this year. So
- 43:35Speaker 2: and expect me to be probably about five or six
- 43:39Speaker 2: or seven pounds a little heavy this week because I'm
- 43:43Speaker 2: anticipating that. Oh for sure. I'm definitely gonna do the
- 43:46Speaker 2: way in before I'm gonna do the way in before
- 43:48Speaker 2: I'm gonna talk to him left, see, because I'm gonna
- 43:51Speaker 2: stuff myself a little bit. But so those are the
- 43:53Speaker 2: main three dishes.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Where the cookies no.
- 43:55Speaker 5: No, no, this this sweet potato this sweet potato pot
- 43:59Speaker 5: that's sweeper. Yes, okay, sweet potato pie. Well we have
- 44:04Speaker 5: carrot cake. What have we got lemon cake? We can
- 44:07Speaker 5: do peanut butter cake.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Wow, like those the you know chocolate chip kikies are
- 44:13Speaker 2: off limits. Like when when Thanksgiving coming, we got other things.
- 44:17Speaker 2: We got other things going on, like you know, Grandma's pie,
- 44:21Speaker 2: you know pie, sweet potato pie, peanut butter cake like
- 44:25Speaker 2: stuff like that. But no, we're on it.
- 44:29Speaker 1: That sounds awesome. I wish I was in attendance. I
- 44:32Speaker 1: can't wait to hear about all the food eating the
- 44:35Speaker 1: Bills have played on Thanksgiving a few times. You've been
- 44:37Speaker 1: a part of those games. I want to go back
- 44:40Speaker 1: to twenty nineteen Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys. It
- 44:44Speaker 1: was like Josh Allen's coming out party. He completed seventy
- 44:47Speaker 1: nine percent of his passes, had two touchdowns. What do
- 44:50Speaker 1: you remember about the early days when Josh Allen was
- 44:54Speaker 1: proving who he was to the world.
- 44:57Speaker 2: I mean, like that was what year was there for him?
- 45:00Speaker 2: That was his second year a year okay, but like.
- 45:02Speaker 1: The okay, so like and November second year we.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Were playing some men for football too. We was like
- 45:09Speaker 2: nine and three ninety four. We were at a good spot,
- 45:13Speaker 2: but like, yeah, you could tell like we were sending
- 45:15Speaker 2: as a team. Then playoffs for sure. Twenty nineteen, Oh,
- 45:19Speaker 2: Josh was he was a dog that day, wasn't he.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Well it's not many days that he's not a dog.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Like this was a game where it was on a
- 45:27Speaker 1: national stage, so you have everybody sat for Thanksgiving and
- 45:31Speaker 1: he's a young quarterback. You guys know he's a dog yet,
- 45:35Speaker 1: But the whole world didn't really find that out until
- 45:38Speaker 1: we had watched the entire twenty nineteen season and to
- 45:41Speaker 1: see what he put on tape and to see it
- 45:43Speaker 1: on Thanksgiving, it was like, oh dang, this guy's I
- 45:46Speaker 1: guess the almost eighty percent of his passes again.
- 45:49Speaker 2: That's hard to do. That's hard to do. Like eighty
- 45:51Speaker 2: percent of your past is seventy nine percent, Like that's
- 45:54Speaker 2: eight out of Like that's.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Passing and rushing touchdown. He flexed his muscle on the
- 45:59Speaker 1: ground to I.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Mean, and then to do that, I guess the Cowboys
- 46:03Speaker 2: on Thanksgiving, Like that's everybody's watching too. I mean, like
- 46:06Speaker 2: that's just a bigger audience for everybody to see what
- 46:09Speaker 2: we already knew though, Like for his first year, I
- 46:11Speaker 2: seen him hurd of the guy, like standing straight up
- 46:14Speaker 2: like hurdle him. Like so it's like it's not much
- 46:18Speaker 2: that we haven't seen him done do, But we can't
- 46:21Speaker 2: take that for granted. He was a dog then, I mean,
- 46:24Speaker 2: still the dog now, but like twenty nineteen, like I know,
- 46:28Speaker 2: after the game, I like took a bite of the turkey.
- 46:32Speaker 2: That was a big time window because that was on
- 46:33Speaker 2: a Thursday night. We just came off. I believe we
- 46:36Speaker 2: played the Broncos. Yes you did, we played the Broncos.
- 46:40Speaker 1: You're crazy that you can remember that.
- 46:42Speaker 2: I'm telling you, like the mine like it's certain certain
- 46:45Speaker 2: things that.
- 46:45Speaker 1: I just looked up that game, so I remember that
- 46:48Speaker 1: was that was.
- 46:49Speaker 2: A defensive sluck like that was one of the like
- 46:51Speaker 2: that was I gotta pick that game. That's probably why that.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Year you had six pecks.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I think it was giving them out. They was giving
- 47:00Speaker 2: them out like they was giving them out. Like that's
- 47:03Speaker 2: what I'm saying. It was one of those insers.
- 47:05Speaker 1: You're all Pro season twenty nineteen.
- 47:07Speaker 2: They was giving them out. You were getting that. It
- 47:10Speaker 2: was giving them out. They coming bunches. Like I said,
- 47:12Speaker 2: I started hot. I got two in one game, and
- 47:15Speaker 2: then yeah, that's all it takes. Let's let's let's come
- 47:18Speaker 2: on over here. What we got six six more games.
- 47:23Speaker 2: There's no reason I can't get a pick of game.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Let's go come on it.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Speaking existence right now, I need to.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Put myself on one of these dogs of a week weeks. Yeah,
- 47:34Speaker 2: that'd be great, that would be great. But we was
- 47:36Speaker 2: talking about things giving enough about me. But yeah, no,
- 47:39Speaker 2: that game was great. I mean that was one of
- 47:43Speaker 2: the great seasons. Like as a defense, and as you know,
- 47:46Speaker 2: like you said, Josh coming along, I mean he was
- 47:49Speaker 2: just displaying what we already knew and for a national
- 47:52Speaker 2: national artists to see against the Cowboys Jerry's world, like
- 47:56Speaker 2: you know America's team, Like that was it lined up perfect?
- 48:01Speaker 2: But you know we enjoyed. It was a great ride back.
- 48:03Speaker 2: We had a great time on a short week. That's
- 48:06Speaker 2: the thing, Like those short weeks are so tough because
- 48:08Speaker 2: you can't get a much study that you want to
- 48:10Speaker 2: because you it's just a bad imagine what it's a
- 48:13Speaker 2: baddance of trying to get the body back, study, film,
- 48:16Speaker 2: get risk.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Part of part of what you signed up for. Right
- 48:19Speaker 1: for Sursday night games happened. It happened to the good
- 48:22Speaker 1: teams because you want to be in the primetime window
- 48:24Speaker 1: for everybody to see. All right, Trey, we hope you

- 48:42Speaker 1: dog dog. You know, it's it's nice because it's just
- 48:46Speaker 1: a day off of work in the middle of the
- 48:48Speaker 1: season when it's starting to get crazy around here because
- 48:51Speaker 1: it's the end of November, December, and January. Football is
- 48:54Speaker 1: coming when it really really matters. So it's nice just
- 48:56Speaker 1: to like relax for a day in the middle of
- 48:58Speaker 1: the week. My fa family's in Chicago, my husband's families
- 49:02Speaker 1: in Florida. I'll travel for Christmas, but we just stay

- 49:29Speaker 4: Or is this like.
- 49:32Speaker 1: It's half and half? I'll do like a recipe, but
- 49:34Speaker 1: then I'll put my own things in. I look at
- 49:37Speaker 1: it for reference, and then I don't like to measure things.
- 49:39Speaker 1: I just like to you know, you measure on love.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Okay, that's that's what That's what That's what I thought.

- 49:51Speaker 1: What's your what's your expertise dish. What's your famous dish?
- 49:55Speaker 2: I mean, I don't have a famous dish, but I could,
