- 0:54[SPEAKER_03]: I was going to say weird game weird game.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, it was a game.

- 1:36[SPEAKER_03]: At least they're at home.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: Hello, everybody.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_03]: Hello, Mark in the chat says, we won question mark.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I see one 25 25 21.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: Take it away.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, doesn't that score just say a lot?
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, 25 20.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think I think the score is the the issue as much as the game played out.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, but that's my point, though.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like 25 21.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: 25, and not even all 25 of those points were scored by USC's offense, and all 21 of those points were scored by Washington's offense, and Washington's offense ran for 116 yards.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: That I mean, if you watched the preview podcast, you know that I don't have to like expand on that, because
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_03]: Go for it.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: I have to I have to find words because find them.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: I host a podcast and people are here to hear me speak and it is
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: time to find words for a game that I would simply like to bleach from my brain, not the least of which because it's 100 million degrees in Los Angeles and it was 93 degrees in our living room.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was 93 degrees in our living room.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, we're a conditioner before we we moved the little air conditioner unit that we keep in the bedroom because I'm very heat sensitive and literally would not be able to sleep if not for that air conditioner in our bedroom, but we moved it over to the living room because I was concerned about your uncle and everyone else in the house passing out from heat exhaustion, so.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we watched the game in the, as much of an oasis as we could create in the living room, which is to say that the temperature went from 93 degrees to 88.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_03]: So 88 in front of a fan, which is like what 86?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's a little bit better either way.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_03]: This is a low T carcass just like that was a low T game of football.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: I simply have a question for everyone who watches this team.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: For everyone who plays on this team and coaches this team as well, and for the people who oversee those people.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Having watched this game, do you believe that USC will go on the road first to Penn State, then to Wisconsin?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_03]: And when those games, I was given no information tonight that would make me feel more confident
- 5:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, which based off of last night, I think the Penn State game doesn't look as daunting.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_03]: No, but I so, but there also wasn't a lot of information from today that would add to that.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, it's just I.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: We went into this season talking about this U.S. team around four games, Oregon, primarily three games, Oregon, Ohio, Satan Indiana with the road trip to Penn State, presenting a possible issue.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: And now we are looking at this schedule.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: And we all thought that this Washington game might be much more difficult than in terms of opponent than it turned out to be, but it turns out that Washington is dog shit.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, I do not change my assessment of Washington based on this game.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: My assessment of Washington is they are dog shit.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: USC is also pretty dog shit at this point.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: So like, I'm not throwing stones in glass houses or anything like that.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_03]: Sunburn one in the chat system.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_03]: It was a midoff.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: These were two midteams.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: It was like watching.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: like Minnesota and Michigan today.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like it was that level of like this is not a team that has actual aspirations in the big ten watching USC and Washington before the season we talked about USC and Washington being in that tier of teams in the big ten that would aspire to being to to craft the party up with the top three.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: And what we learned tonight, I think pretty definitively
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: USC is not that team either, because if USC was that team, they would have crushed that Rutgers team that they played, and they would have crushed at home this Washington team, this Washington team that I will give credit on on on one score, being their defense is not bad.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we knew that we knew that they, but they played tough defense.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't gotten rolled
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: USC is supposed to have any leaked offense.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: USC is supposed to have the kind of offense that that is able to unlock decent defenses like Washington has.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: Washington does not have any leaked defense.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: USC is supposed to have the kind of offense who, even if we're being doubtful of USC's offense,
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: I imagined USC's offense this season being the kind that would roll through most defenses until they got to the truly elite ones with the truly elite defensive lines like Indiana Ohio State Norgan and those would be the teams that would give USC trouble because that's generally been the storyline for USC's offense.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: But now we've seen USC's offense go against multiple teams where it's like, where is.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: that extra elevating factor.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: Where is the offense that at least your defense might not be good, but your offense is going to score so many points that it's going to make up for that.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: And that is not the offense that we've seen.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't the offense that we saw against Oregon.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't the offense that we saw against Rutgers.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't the offense that we saw tonight.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think the offense last week against Oregon was fine.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they were, they were fine, but they, they also like, I don't think the, no, I want to hear saying, but like last week wasn't the game.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, but it's a full picture.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's a full.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: And USC has not played the best defenses that they're going to play yet this season.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have already seen this offense run into trouble.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: because of penalties and because of misthrows and because of, you know, misblocks and because of poor play calling and because the offensive line wasn't opening up holes and, you know, all, this, that are the other thing.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you're not at home, if at home, if you're not able to turn on,
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: the jets against Washington, then you are simply not going to do it against Ohio State and you're not going to do it against Indiana.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not even sure that you're going to do it against Penn State over Wisconsin on the road because we've seen that USC's just offense on the on the road is just significantly diminished.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like what what is
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: What is bugging me so much about this game is we talked about USC and Washington at the beginning of the year is being those teams in that tier that were they capable of jumping up into that upper echelon of big 10 teams.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I've already said like this game proved that neither of these teams we already knew with Washington were found out very clearly today.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: We knew this.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: We learned this about USC pretty definitively in my view, but also we were watching this game.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'm a Homer.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Some neutrals can call me out here, but did you think for one second that Washington was more talented than USC?
- 10:35[SPEAKER_03]: No, was that a question?
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, that's my point.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's my point.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: Is that Washington, I, like, I can understand how they end up in a position where they're not the team that's taking that leap.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: But USC was the better team and they simply didn't play better.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: They simply didn't act like they were the better team or had the better talent or had the better ability.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: They acted like a poorly coached, poorly prepared low energy checked out kind of team from top to bottom.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: And that is what is truly infuriating to me because there's no excuse for that.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: I've been, you know, waging wars with people about whether or not Lincoln Riley was given a bear cupboard and I have been arguing this for years now and people will disagree with me, but I will die on this hill.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: I will die on it.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: USC has not lacked in talent at any point in the Lincoln Riley era.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe talent to be a national title contender.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's for damn sure.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: But they have had a distinct talent advantage in almost every game that they've played if they weren't playing an organ or an or an Ohio State or I mean, even that Michigan game, USC should have won that damn game.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: USC is not and has not been playing at a talent disadvantage and yet this is the performance that we see over and over and over again.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: This is the performance.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a lack of talent.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lack of everything else.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: And those are the things that there is no good excuse for lacking those things.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is why I've been out on Lincoln Riley.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: sort of writing the horse that I've been writing, because as frustrated as I am about this game, as frustrated as I am about the way that this season has gone, I already knew that Riley wasn't the guy.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: So like this isn't a surprise to me.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just pissed that I have to keep, you know, living in this reality for God knows how long because if anybody was watching this game, anybody was watching this game and wants
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: that Lincoln Riley will get this turned around.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: The Lincoln Riley will make this right.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: I just saw Richess C on Twitter, who one of the voices in USC that I respect the most, but he was talking about how this wasn't great from USC blah blah, but he said something about baby steps.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just like, we're way beyond baby steps.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: We are so beyond baby steps.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: And also if we're talking about baby steps within an individual season, this is something we talked about with with the Clay Hilton to era as well, like one of the features of the Pete Carroll era was at least if you struggled in early October, you always knew that the team would get better as the season went on.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: You just knew it.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: You had confidence in that.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Do I have any confidence that we will see a better team than this?
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: We might see better games from USC, but do I think that suddenly USC is going to flip a switch and things are going to start going right for them and they're going to get on a roll and they're actually going to be able to be capable of finishing out the season strong and putting together a run?
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: No, why would I believe that?
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: full's errand to believe in.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: So, I just, I find myself watching games.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: just hoping for the misery to end at a certain point.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like I can't even enjoy the fact that USC wins because USC wins and I just say you're going like, well, this was a win that just, it's gonna cover up and play Kitas for a few days until inevitably the lost come, the losses come, because what evidence is there to think that anything will be different than in this game?
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way,
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Last thing, when you give up a touchdown, like the one that USC gave up with two defenders, two starters, by the way.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Two hand touching, a player on the sideline, and thinking that will be sufficient to get him out or get him down.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's head should roll.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: I know that's not reasonable, but somebody's head should roll.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care who somebody's head has to roll after that.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Because you just, good teams don't do that shit.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Good teams just don't.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: So you're not a good team.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: And you're the worst thing.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's not even the first time that we've seen that bullshit in the last few years.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: TCU, Tulane, they were all like that, so why am I surprised?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_03]: It was very reminiscent of the TCU.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_03]: I've, I've blocked the TCU game out of my memory for the most part, but that play was very reminiscent of that game.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_03]: 100%.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_03]: I do this in the discord during the game.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_03]: I can understand as seeking out class, I can understand going up against Ohio State or Indiana a team that has been to the mountain top and looking like they are a team at the mountain top and you're not.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_03]: I can understand how that happens.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_03]: I can understand losing to a team as highlight real catches that you couldn't have done anything to defend.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_03]: I could understand some sort of running back bowling over dudes like the Earl Campbell or something.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: I could like all of these things that I could understand penalties that are not a result of low effort.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_03]: I could understand a lot of those things.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: I can give grace.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_03]: I could understand tonight was like none of that, none of that.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like this was one of those games where if you simulate this,
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: You don't change much.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_03]: You just run this game 10 times over.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_03]: There's there's going to be versions in which S.C. when that game 34 seven.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_03]: And there's going to be versions where S.C. loses it.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_03]: And all of the volatility comes from the inconsistency.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_03]: In doing the little things, like it's the penalties negating place, negating first downs, negating touchdowns, Luke Wafel gets his first second, like he's a face mask happens, like I'm not the the the thing about the Luke Wafel face mask is like the biggest issues that how frustrating it was at the rest of the drive didn't go to go to plan and all that kind of stuff.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_03]: But it's the holding calls, the lining up in the wrong spot and then catching the touchdown three seconds later and having it come off the board.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's going for it on two point conversions that you don't need.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's the million penalties just in general.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like it's all of those things.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_03]: It's like cross your T's, dot your eyes.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: Those of like, if you just do that, you will win more games.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_03]: And not only that, like, you'll win games in a way where you don't need to hope that they don't continue getting miraculous fourth-thousand conversions at the end of the game.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_03]: Washington's offense is not good.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_03]: They're bad.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: And, and for much of this game, as C, we talked about in the preview.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this was the movable force against the stable object or whatever you want to, uh, whenever it's supposed to be worded as, right?
- 19:39[SPEAKER_03]: And I will say this.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think, as C's defense was
- 19:45[SPEAKER_03]: better than Washington's defense was bad.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, or you know what I mean, like, you have these defense was better than Washington's offense was bad is what you're saying.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: What I'm saying is like the Rutgers game, we were talking about how Rutgers their offense was a turnover machine coming in the game and everything and then they ended up scoring and having all these yards and all those things and putting S C under the rest.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_03]: uh part of it is because I don't know that Washington could have done anything more.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_03]: They're offensive line.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_03]: I thought was a treacherous and past protection and all that kind of stuff.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_03]: And S.E.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_03]: did take advantage of that.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: But again, penalties and all of these other things like this was a game where you should have been able to reliably comfortably, even if
- 20:47[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I understand that Mark Bowen is out and Trent mostly is out, and you were without Desmond Stevens at Lineback, or even though I don't really think that changes anything.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: And I understand that so many of the guys are coming off of injuries themselves.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like, to keep steward and Alex Graham and all those been simmering.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I understand that health is an issue, but like health.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_03]: Isn't an explainer for silly penalties?
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's not an explainer for going for two point conversions.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_03]: You don't need to go.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_03]: And like, this has been my frustration that Lincoln Riley continues to wall down 11.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_03]: He continues to go for two after scoring and touchdown.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_03]: And I wanted to look this up because I remember this distinctively from 2023 that this was one of my biggest complaints that season.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_03]: Utah game, S.C. is down in that game.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: What was it?
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: 28, 17.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_03]: There is the
- 22:01[SPEAKER_03]: Caleb Bullock Interception, pick six to make it 2823.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_03]: Lincoln Riley decides to go for two, doesn't get it.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_03]: So now it's 2823, Utah comes down, scores the field goal.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: So now you're down eight, when you could have been down seven.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_03]: And so what happens, I see does end up scoring
- 22:30[SPEAKER_03]: Um, later on in the game with a minute and 46 seconds to go, but they're only up one.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_03]: They're up 32, 31 in a game in which they've chased to point conversions twice.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_03]: Now, didn't get both of them and you, you lose the game because you talk and come down the field, kick a field goal and win the game instead of tie the game.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_03]: Why because you chased points, you did not need to chase.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_03]: I understand the the thought process of like I want to make this a three point deficit versus a four point deficit when you score a touchdown to make it five I get it
- 23:15[SPEAKER_03]: but it never works out.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_03]: Because in every way, when you get the stop and then a few people go happen, like you're suddenly behind the table.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: You do that when there's maybe one more possession left in the game.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: Not when it's the middle of the quarter.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the cow game.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_03]: In 2023, to me, tonight's game was the cow game, but the defensive version of the cow game.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_03]: In 2023.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_03]: Very similar again, SC down 28 17 11 points tonight.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: They were down 21 10 same thing 11 points.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: What does that see do?
- 23:52[SPEAKER_03]: Caleb Williams six yard touchdown run with 11 59 in the third quarter.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_03]: Touched down to make it 28 23.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: What do they do?
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: They go for two.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: They do not get it.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: They score again later in the third quarter.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_03]: They missed the P A T.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: What happens at the end of the game?
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: Cal goes for it for two to win the game.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't get it, but they don't have the ability to go for it and win the game if you just kick your extra points.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_03]: And so tonight, the game was like, it was,
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, to be the same sort of things tonight, USC is in danger, like what what frustrates me is how early it happened, because there's there's so much left in the game.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to be chasing those points.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: So there were a million different iterations of how the scores could have gone or whatever, but.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say USC takes the two extra points and has the two extra points they lead by three.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: Now, when you're in the red zone and you're trying to kick a field goal, USC ends up kicking a field goal on what it's like, fourth and sixth or whatever.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: Once they go for the fourth down instead of kicking the field goal and then and then they end up kicking the field goal on that drive anyways.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you're like, your calculation can change depending on whether or not you're up five or four or three you can shoot in that case maybe you do go for it and try to get the touch on because the field goes not going to make any difference like if you don't kick that field goal.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_03]: year up 22 21 and Washington kick a field a win the game at the end of the game.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: Why?
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: Because you chase two point conversions for no reason.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's just so much this happens time and time again.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: With like it's a feature not a bug.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_03]: Like and
- 25:51[SPEAKER_03]: to your point like yeah you chase those points in the fourth quarter when you know you have to like that you might not get more opportunities and I understand this was a defensive game and a lot of ways I think that the move is more justified in this game than it was against Utah and Cal back in 2023 but like it's still the same issue and then on top of this if you're going to go for it on two point conversions
- 26:21[SPEAKER_03]: You can run a fake.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_03]: You can do the swinging gate.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_03]: We know they do the swinging gate.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_03]: If they did the swinging gate and caught Washington with their pants down and the numbers were in your favor and you took advantage of that, I understand.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's the point you do the swinging gate for, I get it.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_03]: That's not what they did.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_03]: They bring in Jonas Williams, twice.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_03]: just run your offense at that point that that's what I don't understand if you're just going to straight up go for it.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: Then just run your offense run your offense is good.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: You have good players.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: You have a good quarterback.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: You have bread and butter plays that get you into the end zone or across the the line of scrimmage or wherever it is.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: You're bread and butter plays that you run well and you choose not to run those plays.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: when you're trying to get an extra an extra advantage and extra point.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't under like, it's just everything, it's this, it's the deferring, it's the not deferring, it's taking the ball.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: Lincoln Riley got bailed out by his own, of his own, you know, insanity of always taking the ball by Washington not deferring stupidly, I might add.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: And the thing that I find extremely funny is that like it almost justified,
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: Um, no, it doesn't justify it, but like it is funny, because My instill wins middle late Washington still wins the middle late.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: And USC has the chance to book in the half.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: And what do they get out of it?
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: A big old nothing burger.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, because of penalties because of penalties, because of miscuse, because of this that or the other thing.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's always something.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's always, okay.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is,
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: Michael and I live in an old house.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: It needs a lot of work.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: There is always something.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: We pick something and something else goes wrong.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: We get something redone.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Something else goes wrong.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: We were late to start this podcast because one of those things happened.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: Something went wrong.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: And you and I are looking at each other.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: We just, it's always something.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: There's always something.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's all, you know, that's what this football team is.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: Except that they've invested, like, this house is way it is, because it has not been invested in and it has not been, you know, maintained it up, keep the way that it could have been.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: USC has invested like this house should be perfectly remodeled with plumbing that works perfectly and electrical that works perfectly and and ever like it should have running air conditioning and all of this kind of stuff.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: Because USC has the money to put into it and instead it's like well so what if the electrical is bad and so what if the plumbing is bad so what.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, let me get a bunch of super jets.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: Skill K22 says it's so bad that people in the chat are angrily debating where to get the buyout funds from.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's been a discussion.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know what's sad about the buyout?
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: There are 300 and there are 300 plus people on this watching this podcast.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that the combined net worth of you and I and everyone watching this podcast adds up to $70 million?
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: Probably not.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's just...
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think it does I think it does no I mean I don't think it does, but I'm also bad with math so I wanted to ask you if if if there's you know I couldn't tell you what 15 times seven is right now, so you know 15 times seven is a that's 15 touchdown so it's 70 plus 35 is 105 See that's why I ask you yeah
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: the chat the chat is seems to be an agreement like no so uh yeah uh you're another one uh from Dirline in Grand Terrace uh I sat in a hundred degrees for this I don't only see a Michael thanks for all you do with it thank you we appreciate you you know what that pisses me off to and thank you thank you Dirline
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: But there were tens of thousands of people who braved to the heat today to watch that bullshit.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: And they are going to get clowned.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to spend the week if they're online getting clowned by trolls and rivals and all this kind of stuff about the attendance being bad and USC being bad and all that kind of stuff.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: Episodes me off.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_03]: Next one, from Russ, fully out on Riley, never seen a team consistently commit penalties worth a 10 to 13 point swing, a game if this could change, it would have by now.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that this is that that's the perfect way to put it.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like I, it is one thing to get out coached dramatically.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: It's one thing to get out muscle,
- 32:09[SPEAKER_03]: Um, those things can happen even to, to good teams, whatever.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_03]: The, like, there's no excuse for being this undiscipline.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this is something that you control yourself.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_03]: And, and it's not like they were bad calls.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know what I mean?
- 32:28[SPEAKER_03]: Like, yeah, you can't blame the refs for any of these things.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_03]: The, if anything, I think I got away with some.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: The thing is, like,
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: we always point to the peak earlier and all that kind of stuff yeah his teams weren't particularly disciplined they got penalties all the time yeah they had boneheaded moments all the time but the difference is that they would go out and make the plays and win games the way they ought to win games yeah and I was thinking about this at halftime you know what was it 14 ten and a half time and I was like
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: USC had a really bad half.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: It was undisciplined.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: It was messy.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: It just did.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: They just didn't look like they had the juice.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: They were missing the juice boxes on the sideline.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: All of those things.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: But I had a thought that like, okay, I watch all day, college football.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I watch a lot of ranked teams being dog fights in the first half and have a little bit more trouble with an opponent than they should and all that kind of stuff.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I watch men, I mean, those peak Carol teams were almost always in a dog fight in the first half.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: And almost always went into halftime feeling like what the heck are they doing?
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: They're, they're, they're not playing up to their potential.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: was, you know, we watched teams like Ohio State, well, I guess, maybe not Ohio State against Iowa, but like Notre Dame eventually pulls away.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, even Alabama against Mississippi State eventually pulls away.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: And all of these teams that just
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they might struggle initially, but then they prove they are the better team and in the end, they start to outpace the opponent and they get there and they it works out in the end.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: It might have been ugly at the start, but their quality eventually proves different.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we don't see that from USC, we see them scrape out winds against Rutgers and Washington.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: I think that it would have been one thing, Tom in the chat made the good point of my favorite was when the when the commentator hit the half, summarized Lincoln Rally's message has stopped the penalties and then immediately gave Nixon Wyatt personal foul to kill the the opening drive for the second.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: And that's exactly it because it's like,
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: There's a world in which they have a rough first half that come out in the second half and okay, we're locked into business and all those things like that would have been the key Carol thing to do.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that's what's, you know, a Nick Sabin Alabama team does after a bad first half or insert.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_03]: team here, right?
- 35:16[SPEAKER_03]: And that's not what is happening with with with this program right now or last year of the year before.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's and it's the the the bummer is like I think there was a lot of things to you know, like defensively about this game and that wafer played really well.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_03]: it's hard to like sit here and like focus on all of those things given, you know, everything else.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: I want to give their defense, I want to give the defense flowers, but I'm going to be so very honest with you guys.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is just what Washington's offense is.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, yes, what they've done in every game, yes, but this is they've scored twenty twenty one points, yes, you see basically gave them the typical what like the I don't
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: I need more proof from USC's defense to convince me that this performance from the defense, which was an improvement from last week and the week before, was more about the defense or about the opponent that they were playing, because to be honest,
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: I suspect that this was much more about Washington than anything USC in particular did.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll go so far as to say, yes, USC got the stop in the end.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: Good job USC.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: It was a drive that was started deep in their own territory that they converted two
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: what we've seen from USC's defense, the big difference was eventually Demon Williams wasn't able.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: Demon Williams needed to make like 18 plays to turn that into a touchdown where if Washington had gotten the ball at the 35, he would have only needed to make 14 plays and at that point, like, do I think that the result would have been different?
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think it could have been,
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: I will fully, if someone wants to call me a negative Nancy or whatever, by all means go ahead, because I will freely admit that I am extraordinarily feeling negative after this game, and it might just be how hot it is, and it might just be how tired I am, and it might just be how beaten down and demoralized I am.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that this
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think that this was simply Washington being Washington.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but, and I don't see this as a huge achievement for U.S. defense to be quiet.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not saying it's a huge achievement.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_03]: I'm saying that like Rutgers was bad and still like the defense couldn't do it.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, but we talked about what they came to their averages for the most part.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, Washington was better on the against the run and everything.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_03]: But like, that at least is is.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: the baseline, and being at the baseline feels like an achievement at this point, defensively.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: Given the last three weeks, that's what I'm saying.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_03]: Is that fair?
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: I know I understand what you're saying.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: I get it.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think we have fallen very far in our standards if we are.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I'm not, I'm not, yeah, I'm just if this is the conversation we're having, I don't see the point of like, I don't see the point of persisting with the people who are in charge of guiding this team then.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: Sure, which has been on record for a while, so I don't even know.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: Um, all right, we've gotten more super chats, uh, let's get to those.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, let me get, uh, okay, uh, Brian S, uh, is this what being a fan is about?
- 39:49[SPEAKER_03]: Need a alcohol?
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's my problem too, is maybe I haven't been having a beverage during games because I'm working.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_03]: He's got a a water and a and a Kirkland liquid IV and yeah by the way, rest in peace liquid IV.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kirkland just landed a knockout Kirkland nailed it man, nailed it absolutely yeah King
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's fair.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: Very much sure of King Vegeta to leave it at Elimefeo, and not say more because you're here's my thing.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: If you and I have talked about this like I have very little bandwidth for
- 40:52[SPEAKER_03]: King Virginia, the UCLA fan who's been very nice and given a super chat to everything we appreciate it.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: I will take that over like straight up trolling with no super chat.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah, I'll be bribed on a super chat on a on a on a troll.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I'll take it.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_03]: All right, uh, Zek Palmovich, another one.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_03]: uh... the juice boxes are stupid these playoff cfb teams aren't doing stupid crap like down the sidelines they are winning and disciplined soft in all caps it's my understanding that the juice boxes were not on the sideline when they come for it i didn't see them but i didn't think people were saying that they didn't have the juice boxes uh... so
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think they could have used more juice.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they were out of juice for most of the game.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think the, I think we've talked for this.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like the juice boxes are no one cares.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone loves them if you're winning.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: And they become the scapegoat if you're losing.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: All teams, people who have only three things.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_01]: We had sidelines, shit going on.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: We just don't notice it as much.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: I think corny things are endearing when you're winning.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_03]: And they are cringey and embarrassing, or you're not.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: Who, what team was it that had the plank, the turnover plank turn over plank yeah was some team had like it was like a plank and there was a smiley face drawn on it and it was the turnover plank or whatever like everyone loved that.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: because they were just like endearing and fun.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: And there are a million things that like people would hate if you were, if you're not at the level that people want you to be.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I do think it's it's way cornerier than like the touchdown sword.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I love and I love the touchdown sword.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm fine with the juice box is just win.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-oh.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: insufficient storage for Mac OS.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, 26.7.1.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: So we can't.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're not able to record the uh... No, we're fine.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_03]: I've just got to now close a million things in the background.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_03]: So you want me to vamp a little bit?
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, ma'am.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_03]: Vamp a way.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: Andrew says the juice boxes are literally the least of U.S. is concerned the concern as we've had bad defense 18 of the last 20 years.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, actually let me go through the super chats 18 of the last 20 years is like.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's it's crazy that like that's not wrong.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like that sounds nuts.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's 20 years.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's scary.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_01]: What's funny years ago was, but yeah, yeah.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: So let me, let me keep going to the super chest while you're doing this.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got super chat from Urban cattle ranch.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Not worth complaining about things that won't change.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, except we will continue to complain.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: I, like, if we're not complaining, then we're checked out.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I would rather, you know, I think we should all just continue complaining rather than check out is, is where I'm, is where I might be at.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's guy night sky.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you're looking at the wrong thing penalties are greater than defense.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, the penalties are bad.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: The penalties are our problem.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: They've been a problem.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: They are back breaking and that's the thing is like you can have a team that was to heavily penalize and them not be back breaking, but USC's they always seem to be back breaking and that's because USC doesn't.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: make enough plays to make them back break and to make them, you know, non-relevance.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, thank you for the Super Chat Nights guy, but I mean, yeah, one of the issues is USC is a lot of problems.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: So if we talk about one of them, we're not ignoring all the rest of them.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: They're just, we can only talk about one at a time.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, another super chat from Trojan fight is Michael blind Washington got away with way more through a punch no call lay on our quarterback after driving him into the turf no call Phantom illegal formation wipes away a touchdown even announcers were questioning
- 45:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there were my, I came out of this game just feeling like the rest were just bad.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's not always for one side or the other.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just think the rest were bad and I think that goes to show.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: I did think they missed some calls on USC and I bet Rayne of Huskies right now is complaining about all the calls they missed on on the other side.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, me saying that like, um, that you can't blame the rest and if anything,
- 45:56[SPEAKER_03]: There was, well, the way there was a fast place, there was an offensive OPI, yeah, I think I see get away with I'm I'm I'm I'm going to take it blow by blow I am just saying like you the penalty issues in this game, you cannot blame the rest more like and if you're blaming the rest for.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think U.S. C. I'd be dialed back.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: Washington could certainly be sitting here complaining that U.S. he didn't get hold in gold on them.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: On the, you know, a front.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: Wafel's face mess was an obvious one.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_03]: The Wafel face-fast thing is frustrating because like I think Tom in the chat pointed out that like the Wafel face mask is like a 35-year-old swing.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_03]: Like it was a very damaging penalty.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_03]: But it's also, it's also the mostly understandable penalty of all of them in the sense of like you're just trying to make a play it's not it's not like a discipline that one right you know like that's the one that's not going to keep you up at night because it was
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: why the the four men the more than four men in the back field thing is just an alignment thing it's about where your wide receivers are are setting up and it was the panel like those penalties word that those weren't made up those were there right and those are the ones that like
- 47:16[SPEAKER_03]: drive me insane because it's not just you trying to make a play like the the the um ton of kinds holds he's he's trying to make a play he holds him it sucks but like he's trying to make a play it's it's the retaliating from Katie W on the the guy it's um
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: And those are frustrating because yeah, was it a lot of you know I that don't want to know that because that what he did drive my All the down and that should have been a penalty, but yes, you have to be you have to be aware that the retaliating I always gets call yes, and and it is always it you can't push men off the pile like this is a automatic penalty There's no wiggle room there
- 48:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if it had been, if they had called the, the, the, the roughing the pastor penalty on the, on the defender, you would have wiped that out by pushing the guy off.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: So it's still a stupid penalty right to have to get to, to, to just not be thinking.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's all frustrating.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_03]: There were too many penalties that could not be wiped away as, oh, this guy was just playing aggressive or you was trying to make a play.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_03]: Like, no, there were a lot of penalties that had no excuse either than the lack of discipline.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_03]: And that needs to change.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you cannot gift teams opportunities and gift them points, especially when you're not
- 48:44[SPEAKER_03]: your best bowl and like I if if this was just one of those nights for the offense where there were without you know an offensive lineman without your starting tight end and there were without perhaps your best receiver and all this kind of like okay that happens but you you can't compound it by making silly mistakes on top of it like it's all of that
- 49:16[SPEAKER_03]: uh... brioness uh... can we buy you a drink smile once in a while
- 49:21[SPEAKER_03]: Come on, Elise, you've got a smile, why are you smiling?
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's not for, I have bingo cards in the fridge.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: I love a bingo card.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's true, you do.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's can't drink on the gobs, so we got another one from Zekpopovitch who says, if USC was a yearly playoff team, do whatever you want, that's just not the case.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's a yearly let down, always falling short, frankly exhausting.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, 1,000%.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the exhausting bit right now is just like
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: The train wreck hasn't even happened yet, you know?
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's just seeing, you're like, we're having premonitions of what is to come.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, maybe it's better because there have been times where USC has been on a roll and then suddenly they run into a brick wall and get the reality check of, you're not as good as you thought you were.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: But it's still more fun when you're actually out there
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: looking like you might actually have something going for you.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of every win now seems to be, well, they held on for dear life, yay team, we should celebrate the win.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just like, maybe if this was still the baby steps period, I would be, you know what, they're just learning how to win.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 50:48[SPEAKER_03]: We talked, we talked last year about how they were learning how to win these games, so we're, you know, well, and, and, like, I, I'm not going to say that like this type of performance is okay on the road because it's not, but like, you're at home.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_03]: This is when you're you're supposed to, you're supposed to be better at home.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like that's part of the thing, you're supposed to like not do this kind of stuff at home.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 51:15[SPEAKER_03]: against Michigan.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_03]: This was a game where I think tonight's game, I think could have been very similar to the win against Michigan if S.C. would have been clean.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: Where, yeah, Michigan's offense was bad last year and they let them be bad and S.C.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_03]: cross their teeth, dotted their eyes, did their job on offense, and won the game comfortably.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: And like there's a world in which they would have done that tonight.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: And they didn't do that.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't, didn't, did not do that.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_03]: I do want to look at the,
- 51:54[SPEAKER_03]: stats here, um, 360 to 319 in total yards, truly a big 10 performance, especially hell of a night for the punters.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: Karigan.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: Karigan.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: Karigan.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: Karigan.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: Karigan.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: Karigan was great.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_01]: MVP of the game, Lockling, Karigan.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not even really exaggerating that because the field position situation,
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like was was the difference between giving up points and not giving up points in the, you know, the, the, the, pinning them deep the way that he did and those are just all chefs kiss and even like Washington's punter God that was such a sexy as punt can't even blame him.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: That was a sick in a game that was this close, those puns matter a lot actually.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: So MVP to lock on Carrigan.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_03]: I thought he was greats.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_03]: Um, Waveful got, uh, did he get credit for two sacks, I think?
- 52:58[SPEAKER_03]: Did he get credit for, because one of them was clearly a design run that was a tiffle, but I think he still gets one.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, he gets he gets one sack.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_03]: See, I will say, it's kind, like, yes, I think anybody watching can realize that it was a design run, although, but also he still behind the Scream it, line the Scream it's like, you're assuming that he couldn't
- 53:20[SPEAKER_03]: Because he only got credit for one.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_03]: He didn't get two tackles for us, because the other one was tackles for us.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: You see at five sex, newbie Crawford.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe gets the strip sack.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: Way full and to Mayor Robinson.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_03]: Newbie looked good.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_03]: Well, on the chat said, where is newbie Ben?
- 53:39[SPEAKER_03]: He played well.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I thought I was.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_03]: He's been injured.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_03]: He has been injured.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_03]: And he looked good there.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot of the,
- 53:47[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of that, the lionbackers in the teens, you're 15, 17, 14 Robinson Bryant Jaden Walker.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_03]: I've all been someone interchangeable.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_03]: I was worried and newbie with the 26 stands out in more ways than one.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was quite worried with Desmond Stevens being out to Mayor Robinson coming in to start because he had had some rough games early in the season but I will say I didn't notice a huge drop off at linebacker.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: And Desmond Stevens is still, I think obviously a better option there and a more important player on the defense
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: USC's defense was not like the main issue, it didn't feel like, oh God, you know, there's some of those games early in the season there was like, you cannot have that man on the field, there were several players that were like that, and it didn't feel like the Tamir Robinson made the really like getting that to get a sacrifice.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_03]: Barry, like the blacklist talked about this a lot in the broadcast, but like it's it's pretty evident.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_03]: You demand Williams, it's like it's like catching a cat or like you can't spook him.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you can't over commit.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, because then he's just going to, you know, burn you some some way.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_03]: And so like you do have to like slow play it to a degree.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, Tamir Robinson on the sack that he got in the first half was really good at just being patient.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and sort of like hamming him in and getting it that way.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what he was.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_03]: Wafel's two tackles for loss, the sack and then the other one that was
- 55:39[SPEAKER_03]: kind of the sack was him getting them on Williams getting back towards the line of skirmish and like yes that's how you get him that's how you get him.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well and I think that was an adjustment that USC's ends seem to be making in the second half I think that's why
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all if not most of those stacks come in the second half.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_01]: When I think the ends are doing a better job of keeping contain and keeping him in the pocket and not giving him an obvious opportunity to get outside.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: He was having to sort of step up more and then that's when Wafel was getting to him and and they were just they were getting home more because he had less space to move around and so
- 56:24[SPEAKER_01]: mid game.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_01]: If there was a adjustment or if it was just a point of emphasis that they were being given, it did seem to make a difference.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_03]: If you comments in the chat about Gary Patterson up in the booth, do you think that makes a difference?
- 56:42[SPEAKER_03]: I give Gary Patterson credit for trying something different.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_03]: Does it help?
- 56:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's impossible for us to sit here and say that it does.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_03]: But like, I give credit for trying something different to to will something to happen and try to get different vantage point and all those different things.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_03]: I think that takes, I think that takes a bit of awareness to sort of change up what you're doing.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we'll know if that was truly the difference in in this game or not.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, like you said, you have to do something different.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_01]: You cannot continue the way you've been going after those two weeks of what USC was putting out their own defense.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody else also asked about Mariano asked you, do you all think gear patterns and needs to simplify things with defense since coverage is so far.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, I feel like that's probably the case, but also, like,
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: This has been a feature of every U.S.C.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: defense that we've seen under like the last five coordinators.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I honestly don't know where to how to fix it because it seems like it doesn't really matter who's the defensive coordinator U.S.C.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_01]: just plays too far off and the DBs don't react quickly enough.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: And when you're like most veteran safety is blowing the coverage that
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: would simplify cover.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was pretty simple coverage and he just didn't react to it properly.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like I don't know.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think it couldn't hurt to simplify because a lot of the miscommunication seem to be involving young players often, but it's also not the only thing that's going on there.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's just hard to, hard to say.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_03]: And I think I see just perpetually has the blanket that's just a little bit too small.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_03]: Like I'm the forethounds.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_03]: I think we just saw that, right?
- 58:58[SPEAKER_03]: They get after demon Williams, they rattle him, they force him out of the pocket.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_03]: I feel bad for demon Williams because he was running for his life because he just does not get any past protection.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_03]: But I agree with Tom, but like the issue with the like a couple of those fourth downplays is like, well now you end up with a one-on-one situation deep with Christian
- 59:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree with Tom that Patterson said way more pressure tonight.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he has to be, he has to, that has to be the approach back and coverage is good enough.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_01]: And even when they drop extra guys, it doesn't matter, might as well send them.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_01]: I agree there.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think that at a certain point, getting pressure is way more important.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: and will some quarterbacks for a new for that, yes, but USC's like it usually it's the better quarterbacks or the the the lead ones who will rip you apart when you send blitzes and and don't get home quickly enough and all that, but USC's been getting burned by quarterbacks that are not in that class in that class and those guys usually if you keep if you keep putting
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_01]: plays that just don't work out.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's just a better approach than trying to sit back.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_01]: I will say that the U.S.E.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_01]: did that three men front a couple times with G.D. have a series on the outside.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that worked out.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_03]: They did it with pressure.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that really sort of helped give a different look where you got guys and like mug and and all
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_03]: the the pressure thing of like I think it's good that they bring pressure and I think that they had a lot of success with that tonight.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_03]: I do worry about the pressure stuff because last weekend's Oregon.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_03]: There were a lot of times I thought they brought too much pressure in the sense that they got and they weren't getting home.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_03]: They weren't getting home and they got
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_03]: Um, Ray will like just pop that right over and just, you know, dump that off and suddenly you had a big gain because you were able to get home.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so you got to be able to get home and tonight they were able to get home or at least throw the Mont Williams off his off-kilter a little bit.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_03]: He was parents a few times because didn't have a lot to throw and all that.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_03]: And then on the other side of it,
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that had a very frustrating night like the the miss is the and that's like a sharper my ava in this game he we saw more of the gunslinger and it worked on the play where he just throws it up to Carson Tupper actually held a catch for there but he tried to throw it up against earlier in short arm did and I thought that the touchdown past the KW was
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_03]: that got called back was put in the exact right spot, so it was a good pass, but it did look off out of his hand like it was something that he that he shortarmed again, but the biggest the biggest issue with by oven the game for me was missing the speed out to the no kind that would have ice the gate in the fourth quarter because again like
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_03]: It is one thing to miss a guy when you're under to rest or you're rolling in the part like you're trying to make a play, whatever it is, like that happens when you have a gimme speed out that is right there on third down to ice the game, or at least allow you to get into an opportunity to ice the game, you gotta have that, especially in a one
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_01]: ease any of the questions that I think or have been popping up about whether or not Jade and my other has.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_01]: that it factored to close out games because we've seen that, you know, he's had some some rough goes and it's, you know, there have been times where he's been quite good at the end of the games, but some of these incompletions were just straight up just simple, easy completions that just didn't come off.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a concern for sure.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think there there is an element perhaps that my have a has a ceiling and he may have reached it.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_03]: It could be the ceiling, it could be the entry scare we still have.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and they had those thoughts, but like,
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_03]: I thought he looked, his arm did not look great against Rutgers, he missed a couple passes against Rutgers, and it comes back from the hit that he took against Louisiana, Louisiana, or Fresno State, Fresno State, Fresno State.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and Louisiana game he was off
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he had a couple of off weeks, but I thought he was really good last week against Oregon in terms of his accuracy, like I thought his accuracy was back and to me I was like, okay, maybe he's not injured, maybe he was just a little rattle and everything and then tonight you get more of the short arm more of the like missing dudes thing to like it just and the desperation he's like his back foot that he.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_01]: We see both sides of that, like Tabarachi, making that catch, and then the interception like that just those throws are asking to be intercepted, and you can't pull that off.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_01]: Even Caleb Williams can't pull that off every time.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's fascinating too, because there's the juxtaposition
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_03]: of there are so many plays this season where I think that my office shown his maturity in being patients.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_03]: That was something that we saw what the first drive of the president's ticket.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_03]: Like he was, there was a lot of pressure that he had to deal with in the on that drive.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_03]: And he was very patient.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_03]: He was very, you know, trying to find opportunities rather than like not wanting to throw it away, but like,
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_03]: looking for a better place to throw it than just gunsling in it.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we've seen a lot of growth in that area.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_03]: Chuck's supposed to with tonight with the, you know, the sort of the Caleb Williams, Johnny Menzel, Sam Darnall, you're lowing that like, is you're going to live in
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_03]: He makes a great catch in the other one.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_03]: He just short arms it and it's picked up.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_01]: And those ones are frustrating, but like, I get it.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_01]: I see I see what he sees there with the, with the one he throws an interception like he's got a wide open receiver.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_01]: If he is Caleb Williams, he probably makes that throw because he can just, you know, ridiculous arm strength, but he's not and he doesn't get the, doesn't get behind it.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's the, it's the, it's the routine throws that he just randomly misses on that I, I.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_01]: I can live with a gunslinger because you're going to get the good and bad of a gunslinger, but I can't live with somebody who's that inaccurate at really, really in opportunity.
- 1:06:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I at random.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think we were talking with our, our organ pal Matt from Eugene this week about like, I was really impressed with Rao a last week because he was.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_03]: Just a gay manager for Oregon and he wasn't doing the gunslingery trying to be my homes thing.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_03]: And like you realize that like, oh, well, he's just so much better when he does that.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that like my Abba is at his best when he's executing the offense and I you know, you could say he's a system quarterback like I
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_03]: when he's executing the offense and he's making his reads and he's playing with in his self and he's doing like that's when he has at his best.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_03]: He has some gunslinger in him, but like I don't think that that ends up making him better at the end of the day is him taking those shots.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_03]: That's when I would rather he just throw it or yeah, so I would rather him be more
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_03]: game managerie than not in those instances.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but in order to be that game manager, you have to, you have to hit those passes reliably.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yeah, which he has, he has done more so than not of late, which is why I think that the Tuna Kines miss was just like so like that.
- 1:07:59[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like in comparison to everything else.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like he's had a couple of those pretty much every game though.
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_03]: luckers in Louisiana.
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and then tonight again, but to my point like I didn't think he had them even say I stayed I thought he started it felt like he was just rushed or whatever.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_03]: When complete passes in those first two.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I think they were bad in the beach and I don't remember.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that's a little nitpicky, but in the chat there's there's talks about my have a running Yes, Trojan Dale says he runs like he has two left feet.
- 1:08:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think he runs like a giraffe
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_03]: a little bit.
- 1:08:38[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you see a dim on Williams running, you see what a comfortable runner of the football looks like.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like we talked about this with lunch windfield and with some other guys, my outlet just looks like he would rather do anything else.
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, that's, if he doesn't, if he, it's just frustrating because he is quick enough.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_01]: And like I wish he would have just embraced that part of himself, but like,
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_01]: I also think at this point, we have been around the block off and enough with him, that like, I no longer, I'm no longer just, it's not even something that I'm even clocking as a frustration, because he doesn't look comfortable running.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, you don't have to be a running quarterback to be successful and knowledgeable, but, you know, it just answers the chat points out that my average shouldn't have to run.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_03]: I wish he'd be able to run the ball with me when we need to look at the running back like I get I get that but also like there's going to be moments where you have to pick up a third down with your legs and I yeah he looks he looks timid when when he's he looks timid scrambling He looks better on design runs.
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_03]: I will say that.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I One thing is
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_01]: The running game was quite disappointing today in terms of the offensive line.
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there was anything, well, you know, there were a couple moments with the running backsports like, what are you doing?
- 1:10:09[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part, it just felt like the holes weren't there.
- 1:10:12[SPEAKER_01]: They were getting closed up real quick, and there was only so much that King Miller could do.
- 1:10:16[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he did very well with what he was given, and I would use this as a word of caution
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_01]: This is my worry about when you start playing teams like Ohio State and Indiana and the like like well Penn State now looks like you could run through them like I could run through them for 200 yards, but
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Those are those games I think will be tough if you don't have a an offense that can like an offensive line that has that ceiling this is my problem with you is offensive line and has been the whole time I think is that I think this offensive line can be very solid but I think they have a pretty clear ceiling that we've.
- 1:11:00[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen and I don't think that they are like a game-changing offensive line.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're just at this point, which is an improvement from previous years is an offensive line that that is just sort of
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_01]: good.
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_01]: They're just they're fine.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_01]: You're not they're not a net negative or a net positive.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_01]: And that's honestly where I where I I am perfectly content with that at this point in in life like considering the offensive lines that we've had in the past that we're just like inconsistent messes, but this is one of the things that will potentially be a limiting factor for USC is I don't know that against better run defenses that they.
- 1:11:42[SPEAKER_01]: can that the offensive line plus the tight ends all the the whole blocking situation that they can actually like clear the way for a really dominant running performance against a good deep against a good run defense which by the way Washington is like that there their defense is has is and has been consistently good against the run against everyone they've played.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_01]: they have good linebacker play, they have good, you know, db's that are making that make consistent plays in the run game and the like, and like, so USC probably wasn't ever going to have a big day running the ball.
- 1:12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but this is also, like I said, like a sign of maybe where a ceiling might be.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_03]: I hear you.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_03]: I thought I, yeah, there weren't a lot of running lanes,
- 1:12:33[SPEAKER_03]: They were scrappy in the run game and in short yardage.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_03]: They were good.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_03]: They were very good and short yardage on Third and fourth and short.
- 1:12:44[SPEAKER_03]: They were six of it.
- 1:12:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, um One of those that they don't get is the women Jordan on third down where I was giving them some some credit here because that play wasn't going anywhere.
- 1:12:58[SPEAKER_03]: I think it but I
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe, but also like he bounces to the outside when like way further than he probably should have and all those things and where I give way major and credit is every single short yardage run he had after that, he just stuck to the A gap and just ran forward right behind his offensive lineman and every time he did that he picked it up.
- 1:13:25[SPEAKER_03]: So like at least that.
- 1:13:27[SPEAKER_03]: was that a learning opportunity?
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_01]: You hope so because maybe he was he was good on short yardage just running for maybe a good just mentality change of if you only need one or two yards that's fine just get the one or two you can get if you need one yard you only need one yard and and one inch you know and if that's all that's there that's all that's there you just got to take that so I
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_01]: His statline is not good, it's not good 11.30 seconds.
- 1:13:57[SPEAKER_01]: His statline is so much better, he was so much better because he was the short yardage guy.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_01]: He was the one that was, I do not think there were very many running lanes for, especially in the second half for any of the running backs.
- 1:14:12[SPEAKER_01]: But when called into action on those short yardage plays, he was doing very well to make sure that those were converted.
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_01]: It mattered a one-yard run that gets you a first-down is far more important than what a statline looks like.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so he has the it's a third and one in the third quarter and he runs to the right for no gain.
- 1:14:43[SPEAKER_03]: from that moment on, fourth and one, he gets four, third and two, he gets three, third and one, he gets two, third and three, he gets two, but then gets two yards, the very next play.
- 1:14:56[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that, yeah, it wasn't pretty, it was three yards in a cloud of dust, but at least there was some sort of productivity there.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_03]: And if you're not gonna have a big yards for carry average,
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see like running success and I think they were successful in short yards.
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_01]: he had 11 carries.
- 1:15:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Um, one, two, like three of them on third first day.
- 1:15:21[SPEAKER_01]: One, two, three, four, five, six of them were for first downs.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_01]: One of them was a touchdown.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_01]: One of them was a nine yard game.
- 1:15:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:15:30[SPEAKER_03]: So like, but you look at the situations.
- 1:15:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_03]: There's one on first and eight first and goal at the eight.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_03]: One on first and 10 at the 47.
- 1:15:39[SPEAKER_03]: One on first and 10 at the 11.
- 1:15:41[SPEAKER_03]: Everything else is short yard.
- 1:15:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, short earnings or a second down.
- 1:15:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:15:45[SPEAKER_01]: So he did his job as is kind of what we're saying.
- 1:15:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:15:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I, I, I, I don't have, I guess that my issue with with the offense is that the run game is at its best when the offense is moving well with the passing game because they're running into light boxes and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:16:05[SPEAKER_03]: And on a night when my
- 1:16:16[SPEAKER_03]: And it's difficult for SE to get out of the rut.
- 1:16:21[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you'd like the ability to get out of those ruts where even against the really good teams.
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_03]: Because I think if my avo was more sharp tonight, I think they're able to run the ball better.
- 1:16:35[SPEAKER_03]: Because UW doesn't have to crash the box and play the run as well as they did and do all their run fit stuff.
- 1:16:47[SPEAKER_01]: it was also just a weird night in general.
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_01]: I would be nice to sort of look back like did KDW just get shut down by their DBs.
- 1:16:59[SPEAKER_01]: So he obviously has the touch down that's called back and that that's rough.
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the one was it technically a drop?
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_03]: I would it was really
- 1:17:15[SPEAKER_03]: This is where I go back to like, how much, yeah, I don't know, I think that maybe we get more insight on the, the, whatever PFF says for whatever that's worth, but also like rewatching, I think would be interesting to sort of ISO on Katie W because like,
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_03]: was it because there's there's no mostly and there's no ballman and so like he is the guy to to to to to to key and key and on because if if you're watching defense yet make to no kind to beat you.
- 1:17:50[SPEAKER_03]: make that a kind to me like that kind of is done nothing so far this season.
- 1:17:54[SPEAKER_03]: So if you're Washington, like yeah, make him beat you.
- 1:17:57[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what I can connect to tonight.
- 1:17:58[SPEAKER_01]: The the psychic connection between tenocines and Jade and my ava was off on a couple plays and so was that better than that if you're Washington, you'll take that rather than letting KDW like moss you every other play.
- 1:18:15[SPEAKER_03]: Stay on the chat says that that booby had it had a good game.
- 1:18:17[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say that he did and I thought I thought it a lot of it had to do with the way that they were using him using him on those little tunnel screens and the like I thought he did a very good job of
- 1:18:31[SPEAKER_01]: Turning though some a couple of those I thought we're about to get blown up and he did a good job of slithering through and and turning them into positive games.
- 1:18:38[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think this was movies best game.
- 1:18:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think this was the game that seemed to Suit him the most in terms of what his skill set could be at this at this point in his career.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, could host him.
- 1:18:51[SPEAKER_03]: Tom in the chest is why can't we have a dude at linebacker safety that McLaughlin guy ate up the run as an extra guy in the box.
- 1:18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, McLaughlin was he's what I think you would love or locker to be rather than strictly being a blitz guy.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_03]: Because yeah, that's, that's what that camaraderie Ramsay was so good at.
- 1:19:11[SPEAKER_01]: I guess a man could be that.
- 1:19:13[SPEAKER_01]: And couldn't be yet.
- 1:19:14[SPEAKER_03]: That sack yet another pressure that I thought was was was was pretty good.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like we saw, we saw clips is of it, but yeah, in terms of being reliable.
- 1:19:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think you, you absolutely want that.
- 1:19:27[SPEAKER_03]: We did get another super chats, a couple super chats.
- 1:19:32[SPEAKER_03]: King Vegeta again.
- 1:19:33[SPEAKER_03]: I really respect your podcast.
- 1:19:36[SPEAKER_03]: You're the only, you're about the only ones who tell the truth about your team.
- 1:19:39[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that I agree with that, but I appreciate the sentiment.
- 1:19:44[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'll make you feel a fan.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_03]: The one thing I don't want is a week U.S.C.
- 1:19:48[SPEAKER_03]: team for UCLA to beat on.
- 1:19:50[SPEAKER_03]: Good night.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think we appreciate that and appreciate the Super Chat and all that stuff, but I have always said that like
- 1:20:02[SPEAKER_03]: One of my complaints about the SUCLA rivalry is that the rivalry for 98% of my lifetime has been bad because the teams do not line up.
- 1:20:16[SPEAKER_01]: they're never it never feels like they're evenly matched.
- 1:20:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's either a massive upset or or the dominate team.
- 1:20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're both.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, and and so yeah, like I think that whereas that the the Yesy Notre Dame games tend to have more like story lines.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:20:36[SPEAKER_03]: And so, yeah, I think it is good when both teams are good, so I agree with that sentiment.
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_01]: I found it easier to hold that sentiment when I was more confident in U.S.C.
- 1:20:54[SPEAKER_01]: I loved.
- 1:20:55[SPEAKER_01]: I have always been a big, you know, yeah, you want your rivals to be good, because then beating your rivals means more.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_01]: It gives your resume a boost and all of that.
- 1:21:09[SPEAKER_01]: These days,
- 1:21:14[SPEAKER_01]: Being happy with UCLA being good means I'm just gearing up for disappointment at the end of the season.
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we got a super chat from Tim to quote some on in the discord about the two point conversions.
- 1:21:28[SPEAKER_03]: Go Lincoln's out here playing Candyland instead of chess.
- 1:21:34[SPEAKER_01]: You were playing Candyland?
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yes, because I have a nephew.
- 1:21:39[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, that's fair.
- 1:21:40[SPEAKER_03]: I think I played Candle in.
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_01]: I probably played Candle in as a kid.
- 1:21:44[SPEAKER_01]: When I played with Logan, I certainly did not remember how it works, but I quickly learned because it's a very easy game.
- 1:21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the thing.
- 1:21:54[SPEAKER_01]: We've already gone off on the two-point conversions and how super annoying they are for multiple aspects.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I will concede that
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_01]: There are very, very knowledgeable people who would tell you that you should go for, you should go for two in the context or do whatever, like I don't think Riley is being stupid.
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think he is following the wrong, I simply fundamentally disagree with that particular line of thinking in the same way that I fundamentally disagree with, I mean, I am almost always to take the points person.
- 1:22:41[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that there are times when your percentages say that you should go for fourth
- 1:22:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just a big believer and take the points and I understand if people disagree with me because I think there's good data behind that What frustrates me is that Riley seems to follow the data except for the coin toss Which he seems to decide because he's own the furthest horse first wins more off than the nut Yeah, yeah, which is completely independent of the coin toss which is why we talk about those It's a misread of the analytics as far as I'm concerned, but I
- 1:23:17[SPEAKER_03]: I, yes, I think that I am an analytics-litx person.
- 1:23:22[SPEAKER_03]: I think you play the percentages in theory.
- 1:23:26[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I am.
- 1:23:28[SPEAKER_03]: Pro science.
- 1:23:29[SPEAKER_03]: I am pro using logic and all those kinds of things.
- 1:23:34[SPEAKER_03]: I do think that it's very complicated with football in particular, because so many of these things aren't just yes or nose, they're yes or nose and what the consequence of the yes or the nose is.
- 1:23:51[SPEAKER_03]: And so like, yes, going for two, more often than more often, gives you a better chance to win.
- 1:24:02[SPEAKER_03]: But like, you're not factoring in the negatives of the times, like, but not getting it affects the bottom line too.
- 1:24:11[SPEAKER_03]: And like, I think you have to balance both of those things.
- 1:24:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's the same thing with fourth that like, yeah, if you never punted, or if you never punted past the 50, whatever it is, like, however you wanted to break that down, like the analytics would be on your side in a lot of different ways, but again,
- 1:24:31[SPEAKER_03]: Well, if I get it, will it help me win?
- 1:24:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and like, well, yes.
- 1:24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the percentage is also like the numbers, the percentages do support the idea that you should never punch.
- 1:24:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:24:45[SPEAKER_01]: You should always go for it.
- 1:24:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, but again, it's not, it's outside of the context of,
- 1:24:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but the percentages are theoretical and the game is actual and the cost of, you know, it's not just a, you have a 47% chance of blah, blah, blah, blah, like it okay, yes, you have that chance, but also if you don't get it.
- 1:25:09[SPEAKER_01]: you the chances of you giving up a touchdown have gone way up and you may be screwing yourself over and and like there is just it's all extremely complex, which is why I I just I am always on the side of if there are points that can be had you should take the easiest route to those points and you should also know your team like do you have a good
- 1:25:34[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't have a good kicker, then don't, then don't kick.
- 1:25:36[SPEAKER_01]: But if you do have a good kicker, put your faith in them.
- 1:25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have a good punter, then yes, you should be punting.
- 1:25:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's one of the things that frustrates me about last week, the fourth and sixth or whatever that USC went for.
- 1:25:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's not just the lack of faith in the defense.
- 1:25:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, as we saw tonight, you have a very good punter.
- 1:25:56[SPEAKER_01]: that puncher might have flipped the field in a way that could have been consequentialed to the to the result of the game.
- 1:26:04[SPEAKER_01]: But you didn't punt.
- 1:26:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you had a shitty puntar, if you'd had a walk on who'd never punted in his life available to you, then yeah, of course, don't punt.
- 1:26:13[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, there are always other factors that are going into it.
- 1:26:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I think that that's, it's one of those things were like collectively as a whole, like nationally, like it's like 52% I think teams are on, on fourth down.
- 1:26:33[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, on two point conversions.
- 1:26:34[SPEAKER_03]: Two point conversions, it's like, yeah, it's like 52%.
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_03]: So yes, you are statistically in a lot of instances, go for two, yes, the flip side is,
- 1:26:47[SPEAKER_03]: are you, your team itself, are you the average team in the 52% like because that's the, for some, I can not find on CFB staff to point conversions.
- 1:27:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was just looking and I don't, I'm, did they used to have it?
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like, yeah, I know the NCAA ranking site, so I'm pulling this up right now.
- 1:27:09[SPEAKER_03]: But because I I feel like the problem is like S C's not good at two point conversions and so when you're not good like that hurts the analytics and it like you're misreading the wrong numbers at that point because you're going off of the national average where like.
- 1:27:25[SPEAKER_03]: Well, if you're not a good 2.1 conversion team, that's fine.
- 1:27:28[SPEAKER_03]: Then you don't have to go all the time.
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_03]: Like, to your point, like read your team.
- 1:27:35[SPEAKER_03]: If you've got, if you're Ole Miss and you have an NFL level kicker,
- 1:27:41[SPEAKER_03]: that should alter your decisions a lot depending on on what you can do because he's got a 60 yard leg or whatever it is, you know what I mean?
- 1:27:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I mean as we talked about earlier like also run your bread and butter plates, don't pull out these stupid trick plays that as somebody in the chat was asking like why did we bring on a quarterback who was cold to run like
- 1:28:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you don't have to be that creative just run the place that you're good at running and if they don't work then then you just chalk it up to not working, but when you run a trick play and it doesn't work like
- 1:28:20[SPEAKER_01]: come on, bro.
- 1:28:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:28:22[SPEAKER_03]: I can't find it on the intuitively.
- 1:28:23[SPEAKER_03]: Said either.
- 1:28:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:28:24[SPEAKER_03]: Two point conversion.
- 1:28:25[SPEAKER_03]: Why can't I?
- 1:28:26[SPEAKER_03]: This is got to exist somewhere.
- 1:28:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's bothering me that I I feel like I've seen it before.
- 1:28:30[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I've seen it before too, but I cannot for the life of me, remember.
- 1:28:33[SPEAKER_03]: All right, let's let's run through some more questions we got on the chat and then we'll wrap this thing up.
- 1:28:44[SPEAKER_03]: Grants.
- 1:28:45[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, Ron, being in Chicago, the game started at 630, but I had jet lag.
- 1:28:50[SPEAKER_03]: Japan ram a finale tickets for 720.
- 1:28:53[SPEAKER_03]: So I stopped following the game at 3.0.
- 1:28:55[SPEAKER_03]: Then came out to 20 to 22 21 jet lag was way better.
- 1:29:01[SPEAKER_03]: I'm jealous.
- 1:29:01[SPEAKER_03]: We wanted to go, but it was a conflict with the
- 1:29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we were very, very disappointed because we would have absolutely had, you know, tickets to that ASAP to go see it, but it being on a Saturday, not the by week Saturday, unfortunately not the by week Saturday, but we will watch on Wednesday and then we'll watch the Nebula version and see what there's down.
- 1:29:31[SPEAKER_03]: You got to pick no spoilers, but you got to I guess we we can't spoil it, but I If grants in the chat don't don't spoil it, obviously.
- 1:29:42[SPEAKER_01]: I have no prior knowledge, so I think that When in doubt I feel like you got to go with Adam.
- 1:29:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going salmon Ben.
- 1:29:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think salmon Ben will make it will make it happen.
- 1:29:55[SPEAKER_03]: I'm rooting for salmon Ben.
- 1:29:57[SPEAKER_01]: Me too.
- 1:29:58[SPEAKER_01]: but it's you know what's weird is that you and I not to go all on jello we will address u.s. he's stuff in a second guess we are always talking about how we're rooting for Sam and the guest because like we like Sam and it's Sam and the guest and you know
- 1:30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I would have thought that I would be rooting for Tom Scott, because I love Tom Scott, but I am still finding myself rooting for Sam and Ben.
- 1:30:23[SPEAKER_03]: Because it's just because I'm always rooting against that.
- 1:30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:30:26[SPEAKER_03]: Because I like Adam a lot.
- 1:30:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's just, he's too good.
- 1:30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I like Adam a lot, but I do need him to lose.
- 1:30:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:30:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, he's too good.
- 1:30:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I love Tom.
- 1:30:35[SPEAKER_03]: So if Tom wins, great, if Sam wins, great, um, but I'm pretty neat and sad.
- 1:30:40[SPEAKER_01]: Am I the only one who watches when dover and doesn't watch jet lag?
- 1:30:44[SPEAKER_01]: You might be because jet lag is pretty a lot of people.
- 1:30:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty a lot of people.
- 1:30:48[SPEAKER_01]: It likes amazing.
- 1:30:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, H.A.I.
- 1:30:50[SPEAKER_03]: is great, too.
- 1:30:51[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I would much rather have watched jet lag than this football game.
- 1:30:55[SPEAKER_01]: I will tell you that.
- 1:30:58[SPEAKER_03]: The the the the curse of the two point can be Guy Smithson says Jade and Mrs. Trent and Bowman.
- 1:31:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:31:11[SPEAKER_03]: I agree
- 1:31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think, obviously, we cannot.
- 1:31:15[SPEAKER_03]: You have enough playmakers that that shouldn't sink you.
- 1:31:18[SPEAKER_01]: We cannot downplay how good Trent Mosley was and how USC is definitely missing him.
- 1:31:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I will say like Zach Williams had a big game today.
- 1:31:27[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he popped up in really key spots.
- 1:31:30[SPEAKER_01]: To no kiss still there and to no kiss still very good.
- 1:31:33[SPEAKER_01]: And to no caught a touchdown that was just pure,
- 1:31:38[SPEAKER_01]: just pure want to, and he was in that position for that third down.
- 1:31:43[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Tanuk was really good.
- 1:31:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the receivers were the issue today.
- 1:31:48[SPEAKER_03]: No, and it was interesting that there was three catches by a true freshman today.
- 1:31:58[SPEAKER_03]: Which which is wild like in comparison to the games the season and there was booby feaster cut all three I think we're only is still a freshman Nell Tupo is a freshman and so there's there's those but they aren't true freshmen like booby feasters.
- 1:32:17[SPEAKER_01]: to address the freshman thing.
- 1:32:19[SPEAKER_01]: Washington's roster does not refer to players as freshman sophomores junior seniors anymore because of the ruling for the five or five.
- 1:32:28[SPEAKER_01]: Their roster now exclusively refers to players as first second, third, fourth, or fifth year players.
- 1:32:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is the correct way to go.
- 1:32:36[SPEAKER_01]: And it may be a difficult
- 1:32:39[SPEAKER_01]: have it to break, but I think this is the way we should be referring to players.
- 1:32:42[SPEAKER_01]: So a first year caught is three passes, Riley warmly is a second year.
- 1:32:48[SPEAKER_03]: Is there a, do we do the pro thing?
- 1:32:52[SPEAKER_03]: Where instead of using the word rookie, we just use the word freshman to mean rookie.
- 1:32:56[SPEAKER_03]: So it's freshman second year or fourth year or fifth year?
- 1:32:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I like that.
- 1:33:00[SPEAKER_03]: Is that what happened?
- 1:33:02[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like the word freshman is just too synonymous with college football.
- 1:33:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:33:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's, I
- 1:33:07[SPEAKER_03]: I can't say first.
- 1:33:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like, first year sounds wrong.
- 1:33:10[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 1:33:10[SPEAKER_03]: Second and third year sounds right.
- 1:33:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Freshman, freshman, I like this.
- 1:33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Freshman, second, third, fourth and fifth year.
- 1:33:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:33:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:33:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:33:19[SPEAKER_03]: To be in a light, join late and still wait behind.
- 1:33:22[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know if you touched on this.
- 1:33:24[SPEAKER_03]: Why did we keep testing their ed when they locked it down?
- 1:33:26[SPEAKER_03]: It's best to end the two point converters.
- 1:33:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it goes back to the Wayman Jordan and Shortyard just to think like you you go outside and you play that game and S.E.
- 1:33:35[SPEAKER_03]: was struggling there, but when they stuck to the middle, even if it was wasn't pretty they had more success running right up the gut
- 1:33:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think also teams that have, like, if you have speedy players, you think we should be able to get them out onto the edge, and sometimes you run into a team like Washington that is just too disciplined and too good at covering that side and taking the right angle and all of that, where they just neutralize that, and, you know, you can get caught a couple times, because you think I should be able to test that edge and Washington just did a really
- 1:34:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and Badger, I think, wants some belly rubs down here.
- 1:34:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Randy from Redlands, there's been criticism that Patterson was getting the defensive calls in two late for players to get set up.
- 1:34:26[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think being in the box help with that?
- 1:34:28[SPEAKER_03]: This has been something that Max Brown has pointed out a lot in the last couple of weeks on YouTube and TikTok and whatnot, and yeah, like some of the clips are bad.
- 1:34:40[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like you don't really notice it while you're watching the game in real time, but like you have players just looking the other way to communicate when the ball's being snapped.
- 1:34:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's brutal.
- 1:34:51[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if the if Patterson the box helps.
- 1:34:53[SPEAKER_03]: I again like I.
- 1:34:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think it'd be hard to say right now, but we did just get a quote from Riley about Patterson in the press box.
- 1:35:08[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan Cartier just tweeted this out.
- 1:35:09[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't read it so I don't know if it's even relevant.
- 1:35:12[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about it a little earlier in the week.
- 1:35:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's been a good learning experience for us going through some of these first games seeing the makeup of the staff.
- 1:35:19[SPEAKER_01]: It was a conversation that he and I had on Sunday.
- 1:35:21[SPEAKER_01]: We thought there were some reasons just kind of an operation that made sense.
- 1:35:25[SPEAKER_01]: He knows this defense obviously better than anyone.
- 1:35:27[SPEAKER_01]: He was used to having, I think, a staff at TCU.
- 1:35:30[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at the staff here for years and years, they had little to no turnover.
- 1:35:34[SPEAKER_01]: So when you had guys who had been coaching with you for 15, 20 years, like he had in a lot of ways, you might handle that different.
- 1:35:40[SPEAKER_01]: He had a heck of a defensive staff and it's kind of like the players you're trying to just move the chess pieces to get everyone in the right position to get the best out of them.
- 1:35:47[SPEAKER_01]: Our coaches on film, I thought Gary called a really good game in the players responded.
- 1:36:02[SPEAKER_01]: on the sideline when he was at TCU and there was a lot of continuity between players and staff.
- 1:36:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that seems like a, I, I don't, I don't, but put in very much, take it all in press conference quotes.
- 1:36:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm just, this is the explanation this seems to be given.
- 1:36:20[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I've ever heard that is, and it, it very well could be a thing.
- 1:36:24[SPEAKER_03]: I've never coached college football later or not.
- 1:36:27[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm not going to sit here and say that, like,
- 1:36:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's wrong, but like I've just never heard anyone talk about like the familiarity, familiarity, familiarity.
- 1:36:37[SPEAKER_01]: familiarity.
- 1:36:38[SPEAKER_03]: There you go.
- 1:36:40[SPEAKER_03]: With the coaching staff is like a reason for procedural things to fall apart.
- 1:36:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I, I will say, I think that the, like you, you had all off season.
- 1:36:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but if you have, if you as Gary Patterson from Defense of Courtney, no, no, no, no, no, what I'm saying is if you as Gary Patterson.
- 1:37:01[SPEAKER_01]: In the offseason, you won't have had the actual game experience being on the sideline and having somebody up above and getting the information that you need, being on the sideline, relate to you from up above, and that there might have been a short hand or a certain level of trust or a certain level of knowledge with his previous staffs at TCU where they knew very quickly what information to get to him.
- 1:37:29[SPEAKER_01]: out on the sideline and that that all very good work comfort with the same system for so long or how to say or how to describe something or you know this that are the other things so like in that sense it does kind of make sense to me that what might have worked for him in the past with a staff and players that were had so much continuity
- 1:37:50[SPEAKER_01]: isn't working now and so he needs his eyes need to be the ones that are on the overhead kind of stuff maybe that is maybe that is if nothing else like we said they had to try something different yeah and I give I try I try them try something yeah and then just continue with with what they were doing so yeah will we know if the communication questions
- 1:38:14[SPEAKER_01]: Will have been fixed in this game.
- 1:38:16[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of people who do film breakdowns who I hope they are able to take a look at this specifically.
- 1:38:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I
- 1:38:27[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't, I couldn't tell you based on watching the game live, whether or not this was was a thing.
- 1:38:35[SPEAKER_01]: My brain's just not working that fast.
- 1:38:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:38:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:38:40[SPEAKER_03]: I agree.
- 1:38:40[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew and the Chatsau Spayler is jiggle baggy and ASU.
- 1:38:45[SPEAKER_03]: Is that so?
- 1:38:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm pulling up.
- 1:38:46[SPEAKER_03]: I'm looking, oh my god, 45, 16.
- 1:38:48[SPEAKER_03]: Good for.
- 1:38:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:38:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was just looking at the top 25 scores, there's like not a single upset upset of note.
- 1:39:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the top 25 big stage of state is is currently beating Texas state San Diego state with half their roster out with the mumps.
- 1:39:09[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, is that a thing?
- 1:39:11[SPEAKER_01]: Did I miss their they're missing like 10 starters because they have a mumps outbreak was Cory Perry in the locker room.
- 1:39:18[SPEAKER_01]: maybe fairly had to big it's a big that's been dogging them for a couple weeks apparently.
- 1:39:24[SPEAKER_03]: Big 10 scores.
- 1:39:27[SPEAKER_03]: The only real notable things this week, Wisconsin does look absolutely to be for real.
- 1:39:36[SPEAKER_03]: Beating the hell out of Michigan State.
- 1:39:37[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what to how much not to put it in Michigan State, but
- 1:39:42[SPEAKER_03]: Wisconsin not a train wreck if if they're they're not a train wreck and like they yeah they they they played Notre Dame well for a half They came back against Penn State a week ago and they took care of business and drove to Michigan State a team that they probably should have beat
- 1:40:01[SPEAKER_03]: Um, that is a big, those are big steps forward for Wisconsin, which I think looks bad for SC's chances, uh, later on down the line, like that's going to be a really tough game and SC goes into Madison on the flip side Penn State looked terrible last night.
- 1:40:19[SPEAKER_03]: Um, they gave up.
- 1:40:21[SPEAKER_03]: I just, I had the number earlier and what was it?
- 1:40:24[SPEAKER_03]: They gave it 413 yards of Russian, uh, Russian
- 1:40:31[SPEAKER_03]: Good Lord.
- 1:40:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:40:34[SPEAKER_03]: If S.C. is able to run on Penn State reliably next week, that gives S.C. is good of a chance as they're going to get in a white-out situation on the road 3,000 miles away.
- 1:40:46[SPEAKER_03]: That is a huge key for weathering all of the store.
- 1:40:52[SPEAKER_03]: But it's still an absolute snake pit to go into and Penn State is
- 1:41:00[SPEAKER_03]: coming off of two losses in a row that they will have absolutely wanted back all those kind of things.
- 1:41:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that makes Penn State more dangerous or less dangerous.
- 1:41:11[SPEAKER_01]: What's dangerous for me is USC being on the road?
- 1:41:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, 100% this week saw what happened with Rutgers, but night sky points out that Florida lost to Mazu has that not a big upset.
- 1:41:20[SPEAKER_01]: I miss the only real like significant upset and it's a rank up.
- 1:41:25[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't mention that.
- 1:41:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's a ranked on ranked team, so it's an upset, but it's not like we've had some truly like stunning upsets over the past few weeks.
- 1:41:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm still a little, I mean, but I will say I have maintained
- 1:41:39[SPEAKER_01]: the whole time that Florida vaulting up into the top 10 was a massive over reaction to what was a very good win for them over Ole Miss, but also
- 1:41:50[SPEAKER_01]: The odds makers had them favored in that game for a reason.
- 1:41:53[SPEAKER_01]: They always get somebody at the swamp.
- 1:41:55[SPEAKER_01]: And Ole Miss was so very set up for a let down game.
- 1:41:59[SPEAKER_01]: The matchup was just not good, not a good one for Ole Miss.
- 1:42:04[SPEAKER_01]: And while Florida is clearly a much improved team and has been very impressive, this season, like I thought them moving up to number eight was just a massive overreaction because realistically, they were probably always like,
- 1:42:18[SPEAKER_01]: a number 15-ish kind of team.
- 1:42:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that what we saw today is more just the the the yeah but if you beat Ole Miss like you're going to you're going to move up yeah but but no I yeah then playing Mizzou like it was an upset in the rankings but I don't think it was I don't think it really felt like the same type of upset.
- 1:42:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's the on paper it's 25 over 8 in reality it was more like 25 over 15
- 1:42:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:42:46[SPEAKER_01]: It might be you.
- 1:42:47[SPEAKER_03]: All right, anything else you want to touch on Tom and the chat said, what's the best Kirkland liquid IV flavor?
- 1:42:56[SPEAKER_01]: I love the strawberry watermelon.
- 1:42:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:42:59[SPEAKER_03]: Autumn alone.
- 1:43:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:43:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:43:02[SPEAKER_03]: Lemon lime is good.
- 1:43:05[SPEAKER_03]: I really don't care what the flavors are.
- 1:43:08[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, they're all, they're all good.
- 1:43:11[SPEAKER_03]: Which I don't know why I have that opinion when I'm very opinionated on gatorate.
- 1:43:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:43:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like I need a lemon lime gatorate.
- 1:43:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I never remember that and I always get you the wrong way.
- 1:43:22[SPEAKER_03]: You always get me the wrong ones.
- 1:43:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:43:25[SPEAKER_03]: Unbelievable.
- 1:43:27[SPEAKER_03]: I remember he says, how are Jesse and Badger handling the heat?
- 1:43:32[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that is literally laying on my feet right now.
- 1:43:38[SPEAKER_03]: Jessie, he's keeping my feet even warmer than they should be.
- 1:43:42[SPEAKER_01]: Jessie, we had them in the room because we had some people working on the house today.
- 1:43:48[SPEAKER_01]: And so when we let them out to go outside, they went outside to go do their business and then Jessie proceeded to just plop down in the middle of the driveway.
- 1:43:59[SPEAKER_01]: because she wanted to stay outside.
- 1:44:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, she was, she was just buying.
- 1:44:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird.
- 1:44:06[SPEAKER_03]: Like she'll, she'll just lay out there in the sun.
- 1:44:09[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't quite understand.
- 1:44:12[SPEAKER_03]: Like, girl, you have black fur.
- 1:44:15[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, it's very insulated.
- 1:44:16[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of it, too.
- 1:44:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what are we, what are we doing?
- 1:44:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:44:20[SPEAKER_03]: What are we doing?
- 1:44:21[SPEAKER_03]: Trần advice is, where do I find the discord?
- 1:44:23[SPEAKER_03]: You can find the discord.
- 1:44:24[SPEAKER_03]: We're becoming a member of the channel.
- 1:44:25[SPEAKER_03]: This is something that we don't promote nearly as much as we should.
- 1:44:28[SPEAKER_03]: We have a discord, you can join us.
- 1:44:31[SPEAKER_03]: I become a member of the channel.
- 1:44:33[SPEAKER_03]: You'll get access.
- 1:44:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you get access to the discord.
- 1:44:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's happening there on game days and throughout the week, we're always talking about stuff going on in college football and on game days, everyone's in there talking about the game and reacting and likes.
- 1:44:46[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, definitely check it out.
- 1:44:47[SPEAKER_01]: Pure interest it is a good time.
- 1:44:50[SPEAKER_01]: Good group of people in there.
- 1:44:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, do we want to address the elephant in the room or no?
- 1:45:01[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I think it's a little late to do that at this point.
- 1:45:05[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 1:45:08[SPEAKER_03]: Um, hold on.
- 1:45:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to mute our things really quick.
- 1:45:12[SPEAKER_03]: So they're just going to ask you a question without running it hot.
- 1:45:15[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 1:45:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know, I agree.
- 1:45:19[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 1:45:22[SPEAKER_01]: Just kidding.
- 1:45:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, we'll talk more things about things on Monday.
- 1:45:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:45:28[SPEAKER_03]: And then we'll, we're sort of, go from there.
- 1:45:29[SPEAKER_03]: So join us Monday.
- 1:45:32[SPEAKER_03]: Monday nights normal time 9 p.m., which is what we've been rolling with 9 p.m. Pacific.
- 1:45:39[SPEAKER_03]: Midnight's in these coast one am in the Maritime's for joining us there one am in Puerto Rico two am in Sao Paulo, four am in Saint's Breeze and we're going to walk through
- 1:46:10[SPEAKER_03]: isn't Singapore just we we did this it's it's 12 hours from the east coast so it would be one p.m. it is one twenty twelve one twenty seven p.m. yes so it would be twelve it would be it would be twelve in the afternoon no it is one twenty seven p.m. in oh our nine o'clock show not it not what it is currently okay yeah that's we'll be twelve p.m. on Tuesday
- 1:46:37[SPEAKER_03]: But we, of course, will be here nine p.m. Pacific Monday night.
- 1:46:42[SPEAKER_03]: So we will be there joining us and yeah any any final word.
- 1:46:50[SPEAKER_03]: First Monday, because I think we have something to talk about on Monday.
- 1:46:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have something to talk about on Monday.
- 1:46:56[SPEAKER_01]: The final word is just a big ol' side of me honest.
- 1:47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Just everyone do it with me.
- 1:47:08[SPEAKER_03]: What are you in the chat?
- 1:47:11[SPEAKER_03]: What about Michigan losing today?
- 1:47:12[SPEAKER_03]: I saw someone earlier in the chat that we didn't get to at the time,
- 1:47:22[SPEAKER_03]: Wouldn't you rather win than than Michigan and Penn State losing the last couple of weeks like obviously yes, but like I think the situations are a little bit different.
- 1:47:33[SPEAKER_03]: Just a little bit like those those two teams are in year one and as frustrating as year one losses are like I think it's just a little bit.
- 1:47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Leave it it's quite a bit different than being where we're at in your five to be quite honest, yeah.
- 1:47:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what's going on with Michigan and in winning hand.
- 1:47:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I like winning him a lot.
- 1:47:54[SPEAKER_03]: I, I like McHemble a lot.
- 1:47:58[SPEAKER_03]: at Penn State.
- 1:47:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:47:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Penn State, I think that expecting Penn State to not have some weird issues in season.
- 1:48:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think they were always going to have some weird issues.
- 1:48:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think Michigan having some weird issues makes a ton of sense too.
- 1:48:11[SPEAKER_01]: Frankly, I just think Bryce, Bryce, under what is not a good quarterback and whatever Kyle winning him is trying to do with that team.
- 1:48:19[SPEAKER_01]: I do not think he can do it with Bryce, under what is his quarterback and unfortunately they don't.
- 1:48:24[SPEAKER_03]: Alex Orgy still.
- 1:48:26[SPEAKER_01]: They, they don't have anyone really behind him because they have put all their eggs in the brys underwood basket and I do not think that is a fruitful basket.
- 1:48:35[SPEAKER_01]: So it's also possible that Kyle winning him is just, you know, USC's maybe finding out that Gary Patterson, these retired, these semi, semi retired guys who are aging out like maybe they just don't have, they don't have it in them.
- 1:48:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's entirely possible that's what's going on with Kyle winning him.
- 1:48:56[SPEAKER_01]: But my eyes tell me that you cannot win football games if your quarterback play is as subpar as Michigan's is that that offense is hamstrung to a degree that I do not think even like an undeniably good coach could could overcome at a certain point.
- 1:49:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I will
- 1:49:21[SPEAKER_01]: I will believe that it's a winning hand problem, when I see a different quarterback or a different quarterback situation, produce the same results.
- 1:49:33[SPEAKER_03]: The bummer about the winning hand thing is like, he's had like subpar quarterback play at Utah for like plenty of different seasons, right?
- 1:49:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:49:46[SPEAKER_03]: And so like on that hand, I think you can say, well, this could just be a winning hand thing,
- 1:49:52[SPEAKER_03]: underword looks like the same that he was last year.
- 1:49:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:49:55[SPEAKER_01]: So ready as does Cam Rising have an eighth year of eligibility.
- 1:49:59[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, just go to the courts.
- 1:50:02[SPEAKER_01]: Courts are handing those out like candy.
- 1:50:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, candy on Halloween.
- 1:50:05[SPEAKER_03]: This is true, this is true.
- 1:50:08[SPEAKER_03]: All right, we will be back Monday.
- 1:50:12[SPEAKER_03]: Join us, we'll have a lot to share.
- 1:50:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we'll have some hot guests news on Monday too.
- 1:50:17[SPEAKER_03]: So, keep in, keep in that in mind and join us.
- 1:50:22[SPEAKER_03]: Join us to that discord.
- 1:50:23[SPEAKER_03]: If you'd like to join us in the discord, become a member of the channel.
- 1:50:25[SPEAKER_03]: We appreciate you for that.
- 1:50:26[SPEAKER_03]: We appreciate you for just listening.
- 1:50:28[SPEAKER_03]: you couldn't do this without you guys at the best.
- 1:50:31[SPEAKER_03]: Until next time, we'll see ya!
- 1:50:34[SPEAKER_03]: See ya!
