- 0:27Speaker 1: to join us on this awesome podcast set today.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Appreciate you having me.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I love the outfit, I love the jersey. Uncle Shlu Yes, okay,
- 0:37Speaker 1: So we're gonna start there. For people who are like,
- 0:39Speaker 1: who is Uncle Shlu? Tell us who Uncle Shlu is?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Uncle Shlu is A. It's a It's a character made
- 0:48Speaker 2: up of like my dad, different different like uncles I had,
- 0:54Speaker 2: different coaches I've had who play like father figures in
- 0:56Speaker 2: my life, and I build them. I put them all
- 0:59Speaker 2: in the one and I've taken bits and pieces of
- 1:02Speaker 2: knowledge or game I've got from them. And it's just
- 1:05Speaker 2: that uncle that's gonna support you no matter when lose
- 1:09Speaker 2: a draw. I'm here, baby, Uncle Shlu got you. I'm
- 1:13Speaker 2: right to die. I don't care what it is if
- 1:16Speaker 2: I'm your unc I got you. So a lot of
- 1:19Speaker 2: a lot of you know teams or players in the league.
- 1:22Speaker 2: You know, they say, uh, I could be younger than them.
- 1:25Speaker 2: You know, there's older there's veteran players who call me
- 1:29Speaker 2: unk pushing thirty six, thirty seven. But my presence gives
- 1:34Speaker 2: that unk that sense of security. So that's that's where
- 1:37Speaker 2: that derived from.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And so if you had to lose social media channels,
- 1:41Speaker 1: you'll see Uncle Schlu in a lot of different ways.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So awesome sketches, some awesome videos out there that you
- 1:49Speaker 1: just make the people laugh. Do you have a favorite
- 1:52Speaker 1: Uncle Shlu video Uncle schlu moment?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Well, okay, it's bittersweet because my nephew's not here no
- 1:58Speaker 2: more Stefan Diggs, right, But I I really the the
- 2:03Speaker 2: Uncle Shlu character took off because I did a I
- 2:07Speaker 2: went to the Chiefs Bill's game, but it was in
- 2:09Speaker 2: Kansas City, so it's like twenty twenty two. And then
- 2:12Speaker 2: I was doing uh, I was doing stuff for Bleach Report.
- 2:16Speaker 2: They just wanted to get the tailgating stuff, so I
- 2:19Speaker 2: did that for them, knocked that out. I said, Hey,
- 2:22Speaker 2: I wanna go to the game and get some stuff.
- 2:24Speaker 2: And I was starting to do this Uncle Shlue character
- 2:26Speaker 2: pulling up to the games right, yes, And I'm like, alright, cool,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and they're like, oh, we can get some tickets. But
- 2:32Speaker 2: I look at the tickets it's like nosebleeds. So I'm like,
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'm not gonna get that action. I hit up Steph
- 2:38Speaker 2: and Steph I tell people he's my nephew. But Steph
- 2:41Speaker 2: went to high school with me, okay, so we we
- 2:43Speaker 2: wanted a championship together. Like as when I was seeing
- 2:46Speaker 2: he was a talking, it was like my little bro.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I said, hey, man, I'm coming to the game. Can
- 2:51Speaker 2: you can you hook you? Can you hook your uncle up? Right?
- 2:53Speaker 2: And he's like, oh, I got you. He had me
- 2:56Speaker 2: right behind the the stuh bitch the Bill's side. I said, look,
- 3:03Speaker 2: the camera's gonna be rolling. You do your thing. Let me.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I'm just I'm gonna be there. I'm hollering at him.
- 3:09Speaker 2: He's just acknowledging me, like we playing off each other
- 3:12Speaker 2: the whole game. He gave me his cleats. At the game,
- 3:14Speaker 2: I'm talking trash to the fans and literally they're like,
- 3:18Speaker 2: oh my god, this is Stephan's uncle. Little do they know.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I'm just I'm just in character. So I've stayed in
- 3:25Speaker 2: characters that whole day. Pretty much so that after that game,
- 3:29Speaker 2: that's when.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Everything took yeah, for that character. Yeah, and now when
- 3:33Speaker 1: you're out and about and you're around people, are people
- 3:36Speaker 1: calling you Uncle Shlou more than or Uncle more than Lou?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean they'll call me. They'll call me
- 3:43Speaker 2: Uncle Shlu, Coach Schlu, Coach Prime, sometimes Steve Harvey, whatever
- 3:50Speaker 2: character they can think of, you know what I mean,
- 3:52Speaker 2: Or I've done like a Magic Johnson like in person,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and then they'll just be like like they'll that'll be
- 3:59Speaker 2: the bird called to me. It just happened while we
- 4:01Speaker 2: were going through the tailgate here people cooking up you know,
- 4:04Speaker 2: buffalo wings and sausages, and they he hey, and I'm like,
- 4:08Speaker 2: what's up? You know what I'm saying? So they know.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Sometimes my characters get more recognition, sometimes more than Loup.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But it's all one person, So I'm not tripping.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite character that you play that
- 4:20Speaker 1: you think you know, I excel at this. I get
- 4:24Speaker 1: the most love when I post these videos. I know.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You just had an awesome Coach Prime video that I
- 4:30Speaker 1: mean yeah social media, which was hilarious.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Coach Prime that that character definitely it
- 4:37Speaker 2: took me to another level because just his you know,
- 4:41Speaker 2: presence and impact. I mean you see it. I mean
- 4:44Speaker 2: since he was coming out of Florida State to now,
- 4:47Speaker 2: he's always had that media attention like when he walks
- 4:51Speaker 2: in the room, you stop and you look, oh that's
- 4:54Speaker 2: oh that's Prime. Right. So I kind of I like
- 4:57Speaker 2: that persona and I use that for my own personal
- 5:02Speaker 2: you know, for my own personal game and like just
- 5:05Speaker 2: how I go about my day to day. So Prime,
- 5:07Speaker 2: like that's a character that definitely has taken me to
- 5:11Speaker 2: another level to where people literally like, oh, man, like
- 5:15Speaker 2: what's going on in Colorado? Like if Colorado loses, people
- 5:18Speaker 2: get mad at me, but they think I'm in the
- 5:23Speaker 2: locker room right there. But but yeah, so shout out
- 5:26Speaker 2: to Coach Prime like that's probably And we just put
- 5:28Speaker 2: out that that recent one. So yeah, that that's one
- 5:32Speaker 2: of the ones where I'm like, when I go with Prime,
- 5:34Speaker 2: it's like it takes me to a whole other level.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Has anyone reached out to you that you've played and
- 5:41Speaker 1: said like that's you do a great job impersonating me,
- 5:44Speaker 1: or hey you need to try this next time when
- 5:47Speaker 1: you post a video.
- 5:49Speaker 2: All right, So I started the Coach slew is from
- 5:53Speaker 2: when I play with Carolina, right and Coach Wilkes Steve Wilkes.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So Coach McDermott was my defensive coordinator in Carolina went
- 6:02Speaker 2: to the super Bowl, and a lot of people don't
- 6:05Speaker 2: know my rookie year. I was on four different teams, right,
- 6:10Speaker 2: So as a rookie, you gotta do a t rookie
- 6:13Speaker 2: talent show. Yes, I had a talent show every month
- 6:15Speaker 2: cause I got cut every month.
- 6:17Speaker 1: You had four talent shows.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I had four talent shows, right, So I had to
- 6:21Speaker 2: just I had to get new material every time. I'm like,
- 6:24Speaker 2: damn another one, another one, another show. So get to Carolina.
- 6:28Speaker 2: And I used to make fun of Coach Wilkes behind
- 6:30Speaker 2: the scenes. I was quiet, but I was just that
- 6:33Speaker 2: was my piece, or like how I coped with getting
- 6:35Speaker 2: cut so much. And then the ogs like Roman Harper
- 6:38Speaker 2: and Charles Tillman p and they were like, hey, look
- 6:40Speaker 2: we need that right, So I would do it on
- 6:43Speaker 2: spot on key, so doing him like then, I was
- 6:49Speaker 2: doing that then when I was playing so like that
- 6:52Speaker 2: first character that like I really built up was Coach
- 6:55Speaker 2: schlu But I was taking everything from Coach Wilkes, like
- 6:59Speaker 2: even I mean, I was still wearing old Panthers gear
- 7:02Speaker 2: and just his sayings, his walk, his talk like and
- 7:06Speaker 2: guys that were playing, I mean, they can relate to it,
- 7:09Speaker 2: so I related. But even if you're a little league,
- 7:12Speaker 2: you know, middle school, high school, college pro, whatever, semi pro, whatever,
- 7:17Speaker 2: you can relate to a coach, Slou. Everybody's got a coach, Schlou.
- 7:21Speaker 1: You spoke about getting to play alongside of Sean McDermott
- 7:25Speaker 1: was defensive coordinator. What type of coach was he back then?
- 7:28Speaker 1: He's now been the head coach of the Bills for
- 7:32Speaker 1: this is his eighth season and they've won the AFC
- 7:35Speaker 1: East the last four years. But what was a younger
- 7:38Speaker 1: Sean McDermott like.
- 7:39Speaker 2: He was a guy who like he really cared about
- 7:42Speaker 2: the underdogs, and I was like an underdog, you know
- 7:44Speaker 2: what I mean. So he always checked on the guys
- 7:47Speaker 2: like he knew, like the Luke Keekley's or Thomas Davis
- 7:51Speaker 2: or Cam News they were good, you know what I mean.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But the LIU youngs that were like you know, coming up, undrafted,
- 7:58Speaker 2: practice squad guys on the roster, off the roster, he
- 8:02Speaker 2: would like check in and make sure those guys were good.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So that was the difference with him.
- 8:07Speaker 1: We've got a defense here in the Bills that they've
- 8:10Speaker 1: had a lot of injuries this season, So you've had
- 8:12Speaker 1: the sixth rounders, the seventh rounders, the undrafted kids come
- 8:16Speaker 1: up and have some starting experience, playing big games and
- 8:19Speaker 1: do a great job. And I think a lot of
- 8:21Speaker 1: that is because of the defense that they've installed here
- 8:24Speaker 1: and that have had since Mick Dermott walked through the doors.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It's a defense in a system probably similar to Carolina
- 8:31Speaker 1: in ways where if you understand it, you've played in
- 8:33Speaker 1: it for a few years, it doesn't matter where you're drafted.
- 8:36Speaker 1: If you're a talented guy, you're gonna shine in it.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I definitely he's big on that, like they
- 8:43Speaker 2: don't even care about well, I know, he never really
- 8:46Speaker 2: cared about like first round, second round, third round. I mean,
- 8:51Speaker 2: if you're undrafted, you can get the defense and make plays.
- 8:55Speaker 2: They I literally just for me getting the defense. I
- 8:58Speaker 2: stuck around years and there's guys who was drafted. I'd
- 9:03Speaker 2: be like, how did y'all cut him? You know what
- 9:05Speaker 2: I mean. But at the same time, he was just
- 9:07Speaker 2: big on like detailed details and assignments. And stuff like that.
- 9:12Speaker 2: So he didn't care where you came from. As long
- 9:15Speaker 2: as you could understand what he was doing, you was
- 9:18Speaker 2: gonna play.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You played for I think six total teams in the NFL.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You said four during your rookie season.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Four, Yeah, your rookie season. I think six total, you
- 9:27Speaker 1: have that, right.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 1: There's a lot of NFL players in this league who
- 9:31Speaker 1: are like journeymen. But to do six teams you get
- 9:35Speaker 1: to experience the business side of the NFL. What did
- 9:39Speaker 1: you learn from just hopping all around and going to
- 9:42Speaker 1: four places during your rookie season. I feel like people,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you know, have this idea of what the NFL is.
- 9:47Speaker 1: You get into the league and maybe it's a little
- 9:49Speaker 1: bit different, but as you're hopping around, you're probably also
- 9:52Speaker 1: learning a lot of great things too.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I would say, like from the NFL me as a journeyman, right,
- 10:00Speaker 2: And I wasn't a high paid journeyman, you know what
- 10:04Speaker 2: I'm saying. I was just a journeyman. So me being
- 10:07Speaker 2: a journeyman, I learned. I just learned like the business side,
- 10:10Speaker 2: like to never take certain things personal, you know what
- 10:14Speaker 2: I mean. It is a business. They have families to feed,
- 10:17Speaker 2: it's certain things that the numbers, this, that and the
- 10:20Speaker 2: third and it's things have to make sense. So I
- 10:24Speaker 2: think the business side of it is like I'm always
- 10:28Speaker 2: I'm I'm never like getting too attached to a place
- 10:33Speaker 2: or thing or a person, you know, especially when it
- 10:36Speaker 2: comes to business, because anything can happen. So I take
- 10:40Speaker 2: that and what I do now. So when I walk
- 10:42Speaker 2: in rooms, or I walk in the office or or everything,
- 10:46Speaker 2: like I'm like, oh, okay, this is I'm near the
- 10:50Speaker 2: GM office or you know what I mean, Like it's
- 10:52Speaker 2: a difference between the locker room yes and upstairs.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Right. A lot of people don't want to go upstairs.
- 10:58Speaker 2: If you go upstairs, you you want to get a
- 11:00Speaker 2: new contract or you know what I mean, Like that's it,
- 11:04Speaker 2: like you don't really want to when they get it.
- 11:06Speaker 2: There's one year I got cut and I did not
- 11:10Speaker 2: answer my phone. They had to come get me out
- 11:13Speaker 2: of my apartment. I just didn't want to. I knew
- 11:17Speaker 2: I was getting cut. I was like, hey, you want
- 11:19Speaker 2: to cut me.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Find me, come get me.
- 11:22Speaker 2: So that I would say, like I took that from
- 11:26Speaker 2: just the business side of it, so I use it
- 11:28Speaker 2: day to day, just even like having an itinerary, you
- 11:32Speaker 2: know what I mean, going to away games or home games, like, hey,
- 11:36Speaker 2: we got meetings here, we got this, we got breakfast here,
- 11:38Speaker 2: we got free time here, this, we're gonna meet about this,
- 11:41Speaker 2: go over it again, come together. Like I take that,
- 11:46Speaker 2: I take the formula and put it into what I
- 11:48Speaker 2: do now. So I'm very militant and what I do
- 11:51Speaker 2: So I think football for that.
- 11:53Speaker 1: And then also, how have you taken whether it's the connections,
- 11:57Speaker 1: whether it's the relationships, whether just understanding life in the NFL,
- 12:01Speaker 1: taking those things and have used them in the lou
- 12:04Speaker 1: Young Show and the content that you produce and create
- 12:08Speaker 1: that shows off. I've been there. I know what I'm
- 12:10Speaker 1: talking about. And I can also I can also make
- 12:13Speaker 1: fun of it too in a way that guys can understand.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's just me being in the locker room.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Like if I was like, guys would get so serious
- 12:23Speaker 2: and I just be like, hey, man, like we got
- 12:25Speaker 2: to break it up. Break the what is it the monotony?
- 12:28Speaker 2: I think that's what it is. I like to break
- 12:32Speaker 2: the ice. Like we look, we can sit around here
- 12:35Speaker 2: and walk around all stiff with the brick up our tails,
- 12:38Speaker 2: but like we gotta we gotta like relax, you know
- 12:41Speaker 2: what I mean? That was all I've been like. That's
- 12:43Speaker 2: as a kid. So when I give you, like on
- 12:47Speaker 2: my show or I'm basically everything I give you on
- 12:50Speaker 2: my show is like how if I had a locker
- 12:53Speaker 2: mate next to me, whoever's my locker mate? Really got
- 12:58Speaker 2: to know? Oh man, it's due cool, right, But I
- 13:02Speaker 2: wasn't you know, for the most part, I'll try to
- 13:03Speaker 2: stay quiet so I wouldn't get cut. I was just
- 13:05Speaker 2: trying to be as quiet as possible. So everything I
- 13:09Speaker 2: do on my show, now, that's just what I would do.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I'd just talking to my locker made or people around
- 13:13Speaker 2: my locker. And then when I give you, when I
- 13:16Speaker 2: I can talk about certain day make fun of certain things,
- 13:19Speaker 2: like I know what it's like to get cut, I know,
- 13:24Speaker 2: like when I say I know, I know, I know,
- 13:26Speaker 2: I know the smell of it, I know the I
- 13:28Speaker 2: know the posture of the hey man, you know, like
- 13:33Speaker 2: when they you know we love you, when the coach
- 13:36Speaker 2: says that we know we you know where we love you? Alright,
- 13:41Speaker 2: you love me? But what I gotta go right like
- 13:43Speaker 2: so and it's an insight and people can relate to it,
- 13:47Speaker 2: you know what I mean? And like I had a
- 13:50Speaker 2: Cam Newton on my show and hey was my QB
- 13:52Speaker 2: right obviously everybody knows Cam right, Yeah, big personality. Guys
- 13:59Speaker 2: like that never got really experience getting cut, so to speak,
- 14:04Speaker 2: like I had at a young age. He didn't get
- 14:06Speaker 2: it until he was like, I don't know, year nine,
- 14:10Speaker 2: eight nine whatever when he went to New England and
- 14:13Speaker 2: then he was just like, man, that hurt. That hurt
- 14:17Speaker 2: my feelings. So me, I'm like, hey, man, tough en up.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I've been doing this since really year. It's like a
- 14:23Speaker 2: different experience. So I can give you this side and
- 14:27Speaker 2: that side. I've played on both, Like I played here,
- 14:29Speaker 2: I played on the field, then I've been on the
- 14:32Speaker 2: sideline just cheering, just making sure everybody know I'm cheering,
- 14:35Speaker 2: you know what I mean. So as long as I
- 14:38Speaker 2: my thing was, look as long as I get to Thursday,
- 14:40Speaker 2: I'm getting a check on Monday. That was just don't
- 14:43Speaker 2: come to me before Thursday.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And what better way to use those experiences and turn
- 14:48Speaker 1: it into something that people find super entertaining, something that
- 14:52Speaker 1: people can laugh along with, and something that athletes can
- 14:55Speaker 1: feel like, you know, there's common ground here.
- 14:59Speaker 2: I think I think for me, like there's guys that
- 15:02Speaker 2: I've played with or guys are not I've never played
- 15:06Speaker 2: with or played against, you know what I mean, And
- 15:08Speaker 2: for them to know me we were at the UH
- 15:12Speaker 2: at the draft, at the super Bowl, just past your
- 15:16Speaker 2: NFL honors. I mean, it's random, like Tory Hope like
- 15:20Speaker 2: called my name. I grew up watching Tory Hope, you
- 15:23Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like, what do you want from me?
- 15:26Speaker 2: He's like, oh man, Well when you do that, the
- 15:30Speaker 2: coaching and the players, man, oh man. But it's like
- 15:34Speaker 2: or like Champ Bailey is what does Champ balle want
- 15:37Speaker 2: for me? I watched Champ but he played for the Redskins,
- 15:39Speaker 2: Like I'm from DC. I used to watch Champ Bailey
- 15:43Speaker 2: like Champ Bayley Dion. I was like, oh what. But
- 15:48Speaker 2: to know that I'm able to, like I'm I'm in
- 15:51Speaker 2: the locker room more so now than I ever been
- 15:54Speaker 2: in my career, you know, And that's a weird thing
- 15:57Speaker 2: to say, but you know what I mean a lot
- 15:59Speaker 2: of people would like to still be in the life room,
- 16:01Speaker 2: playing or have some sort of presence. I'm able to
- 16:05Speaker 2: kind of those guys probably be frustrated during the week
- 16:09Speaker 2: and they can look at my look at their phone,
- 16:12Speaker 2: see my face, or see a video like, man, you
- 16:15Speaker 2: see Lou bro LOUI Lou just did. Or there's guys
- 16:18Speaker 2: on the team, like what's my boy name? He's played
- 16:21Speaker 2: Dion Dalkins. It's my guy. He DM me something from
- 16:25Speaker 2: Prime before I did the PROMP. Just reached the video.
- 16:28Speaker 2: He said, I know you got to cook it up.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Oh I did, jameis No, I did, James. He said, Man,
- 16:33Speaker 2: We've been waiting on this one. You know what I'm saying.
- 16:35Speaker 2: So it's like it's it's a hell of a experience
- 16:40Speaker 2: now and it's a good honor. Yeah, to know that
- 16:42Speaker 2: I can kind of be that sense of like peace
- 16:46Speaker 2: in a combative type of atmosphere and you.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Never know what pathway is gonna lead to another. Gonna
- 16:51Speaker 1: open up this door, open up that door. What can
- 16:54Speaker 1: people expect from the Lou Young show that they're not
- 16:57Speaker 1: gonna get anywhere else?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Uh? You get, you get a raw, uncut, unfiltered, Uh
- 17:09Speaker 2: a walk of life. You know what I mean. I
- 17:11Speaker 2: take you, I take you from my child. I'm openly
- 17:15Speaker 2: and uh I guess I'm openly and like just unfiltered
- 17:22Speaker 2: about everything I've been through. I'm honest, you know what
- 17:26Speaker 2: I'm saying. I tell you about my struggles as a
- 17:28Speaker 2: single father. You know what I mean, going through things
- 17:32Speaker 2: with like trying to get to co parenting. That's that's tough.
- 17:36Speaker 2: That like as a there's guys that play in the league.
- 17:38Speaker 2: They probably know, Oh, man, I know how that be. Boy,
- 17:42Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like, but I had OG's
- 17:45Speaker 2: and and and vets that were able. I remember when
- 17:48Speaker 2: my daughter when I first got the text message that
- 17:52Speaker 2: I had a daughter on the way, it was a
- 17:53Speaker 2: super Bowl Wow, he.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Believed that and other There's very few people who have
- 17:57Speaker 1: shared that, but I'm sure there's there are people in
- 18:00Speaker 1: this league who have shared something like that know exactly
- 18:02Speaker 1: how that feels.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Got a text message, didn't say I'm pregnant, notice that
- 18:06Speaker 2: it was two pregnancy sticks said positive. That's it. So
- 18:12Speaker 2: I said, Oh, it's trying to buckle up right to
- 18:15Speaker 2: really put a big boy paths. Yeah, like life is hitting.
- 18:19Speaker 2: So it's just like, and I tell I take them
- 18:21Speaker 2: on that walk of life as a as a single dad.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Managing that with you could still be you know, presidenting
- 18:27Speaker 2: work and present in your personal life or whatever. My
- 18:32Speaker 2: person experienced my pain of what I went through. It
- 18:35Speaker 2: hurts getting cut, it does. It does not feel good.
- 18:40Speaker 1: It's like the least favorite day out of you know
- 18:43Speaker 1: that that day of the year comes where it's cut
- 18:45Speaker 1: down day and the people working in the facility absolutely
- 18:49Speaker 1: hate the day. It's like there's two terrible days. It's
- 18:52Speaker 1: the day that your season ends and it's the cut
- 18:55Speaker 1: down day. So you don't want to see guys go
- 18:57Speaker 1: and you don't want to see guys leave the facility
- 19:00Speaker 1: unhappy about how the season ended, right, And.
- 19:02Speaker 2: That's and and so I give them the Lou Young
- 19:04Speaker 2: Show shows them. I don't know, it just gives people hope.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It gives people It's like you're not alone. Yeah, you
- 19:14Speaker 2: know what I mean, because it gets lonely when you're
- 19:17Speaker 2: when you get cut, when things don't go your way,
- 19:20Speaker 2: when you any type of loss, it feels lonely. But
- 19:24Speaker 2: I let people know that in order to win, you
- 19:28Speaker 2: have to lose, So just be prepared for the wins.
- 19:32Speaker 1: This fan base has under totally understands that. I mean,
- 19:36Speaker 1: they went through the playoff drought, but now they're now
- 19:39Speaker 1: they're in a bright spot. They've got Josh Allen as
- 19:41Speaker 1: their quarterback. They're winning games. They've got a great record
- 19:45Speaker 1: to start this season, hopefully going for five straight AFC
- 19:49Speaker 1: East titles. You got to walk through the lots on
- 19:51Speaker 1: your way here. Yes, what's your take on Bill's Mafia today?
- 19:55Speaker 2: I love Bill's Mafia. Like I said, I'm go Bills.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I'm blue Blues Clues, Uncle shlu. I'm really in the field,
- 20:04Speaker 2: like I embraced it. I was dancing with a lady.
- 20:07Speaker 2: She had a red, white and blue fur hoodie jacket. Yes,
- 20:11Speaker 2: I said, good, it's gracious, like like it's it's about
- 20:14Speaker 2: embracing the culture, the energy. I had some Buffalo chicken tenders,
- 20:19Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like I'm if it wasn't
- 20:23Speaker 2: for the call time, I was trying to jump through
- 20:25Speaker 2: the table. They wouldn't let me jump through the table,
- 20:27Speaker 2: you know what I mean. But I'm all about the
- 20:29Speaker 2: Bill's Mafia, the atmosphere my like, I embraced it because,
- 20:35Speaker 2: you know, in school, I went to Georgia Tech, and
- 20:40Speaker 2: Georgia Tech is in downtown Atlanta. Beautiful, beautiful school. I graduated.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Shout out to them. It's good education. But never really
- 20:49Speaker 2: got like that tailgate atmosphere, you know, what I mean, Like,
- 20:55Speaker 2: I used to love playing away games out right here.
- 21:00Speaker 2: So when I see like tailgates like this, it minds
- 21:03Speaker 2: you of like, oh this that college type, yeah atmosphere,
- 21:06Speaker 2: you know what I mean? This Diehart. Literally the plane
- 21:09Speaker 2: we flew in today, the plane ride, it was probably
- 21:12Speaker 2: eighty percent bills for ever had a jersey on. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, and say go bills. Everybody's
- 21:17Speaker 2: like go bills. So it's it's yeah, I'm I'm with it.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a crazy sense of pride with our fans,
- 21:23Speaker 1: and rightfully so. They've been through the Ringer, They've been
- 21:25Speaker 1: through the nineties where the team was making the Super
- 21:27Speaker 1: Bowl multiple seasons in a row, they went through the drought,
- 21:31Speaker 1: and now they've got they've got the right people in
- 21:33Speaker 1: the building to be happy about it. It's super prideful
- 21:36Speaker 1: of you know, the product that is put on the
- 21:38Speaker 1: field on Sundays. The guy at the helmet that is
- 21:41Speaker 1: Josh Allen. You've watched him play quarterbacks since he's been
- 21:44Speaker 1: in the NFL. What impresses you about the way he
- 21:47Speaker 1: plays the position.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I just think he's like his toughness is really like unmatched.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's unappreciated, you know what
- 21:57Speaker 2: I mean, the way he finds a way when it
- 22:01Speaker 2: when it when it looks weary, he finds a way
- 22:05Speaker 2: to make a way. And I think I think he's
- 22:09Speaker 2: playing like I would say the top three qbs in
- 22:11Speaker 2: the league right now are Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes and
- 22:16Speaker 2: Josh Allen. Like week in and week out, those three
- 22:20Speaker 2: guys colehearted, wholeheartedly, single handedly when it when it, when
- 22:28Speaker 2: it counts, when it matters, they put their foot down,
- 22:31Speaker 2: they say, okay, follow me, you know what I mean,
- 22:33Speaker 2: Like that's at the end of the day. That's the
- 22:34Speaker 2: type of that's the type of leader in QB you want,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you know what I mean. I think he reminds me
- 22:40Speaker 2: of a Cam Newton. I compare him to Cam Newton
- 22:43Speaker 2: a little bit. They start of play that the way
- 22:45Speaker 2: they they just make stuff happen. But his arm is
- 22:50Speaker 2: is uh he got a cannon and I and I'm
- 22:54Speaker 2: I'm a big fan. Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 1: A lot of our staff who came over from Carolina,
- 22:58Speaker 1: our scouting department and our coaching staff. I mean, you
- 23:02Speaker 1: talk about Cam Newton in the same sentence, and like
- 23:04Speaker 1: Josh Allen is brought up as well because of the
- 23:06Speaker 1: style that they play with, and I think there are
- 23:09Speaker 1: some of them. It's so cool to have. You know,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I got to work alongside Cam Newton and now I
- 23:14Speaker 1: get to work alongside a quarterback like Josh Allen, two
- 23:16Speaker 1: guys who sometimes played the position like their defensive linemen
- 23:20Speaker 1: or linebackers.
- 23:21Speaker 2: But they're built like like a d lineman, yes, like
- 23:25Speaker 2: a linebacker, so they can take that type of punishment.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I like people will be like, man,
- 23:31Speaker 2: you know, Cam takes so much, he would he would
- 23:33Speaker 2: do so much, take so much punishment or whatever. I'm like,
- 23:36Speaker 2: he looks like Lebron James in past, you know what
- 23:39Speaker 2: I mean. That's a that's a superhuman And like I
- 23:43Speaker 2: think people under people underestimate how strong and much of
- 23:48Speaker 2: a presence Josh Allen has on that field. Yeah, and
- 23:50Speaker 2: I think this year, I think this year is really
- 23:53Speaker 2: showing the type of guy he is, because you know,
- 23:57Speaker 2: I don't think people expected with the roster changes and everything.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I don't think people expect it for him to stand
- 24:05Speaker 2: ten toes down and deliver like this. So it's showing
- 24:09Speaker 2: a lot. It says a lot about his character and
- 24:11Speaker 2: his work ethics.
- 24:11Speaker 1: There's a lot of great personalities in the NFL at large.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite NFL personality, favorite player who
- 24:19Speaker 1: just has that vibe on the field off the field.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Well, I mean so basically, okay, well coach, well Prime,
- 24:27Speaker 2: He's He's he's you know, he's legendary, Hall of Fame,
- 24:30Speaker 2: so he's. But currently I would say currently, the I
- 24:36Speaker 2: say the funniest person, hands down in the NFL is
- 24:40Speaker 2: Jameis Winston. James Jameis went like even his his pregame speeches,
- 24:45Speaker 2: how he just you know, like he he's funny without
- 24:52Speaker 2: even trying to be funny. Like I think that even
- 24:55Speaker 2: his his I think his first game starting when when
- 25:00Speaker 2: Deshaun Watson went down, and and he's just all he said,
- 25:05Speaker 2: overwearing faith over Overwhearing's faiths, you know what I mean,
- 25:10Speaker 2: glory to God's trusting it in our holy spirits. They said, James,
- 25:15Speaker 2: who was the game who was the game plan? I'm
- 25:18Speaker 2: wavering faiths? Like who? Like? But he he literally is
- 25:24Speaker 2: like being dead. Seriously. Then I think the next week
- 25:28Speaker 2: he's talking to uh, oh, what's my gud Nate Burlson
- 25:32Speaker 2: face to the camera. He's said, Jameis, so, how are
- 25:34Speaker 2: you feeling? Oh, glory to God. I woke up this
- 25:37Speaker 2: morning feeling unpowerful, feeling feeling powerful and powerless, and and
- 25:43Speaker 2: was just like, well amen, Jameis like good luck, you
- 25:47Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like that's it's I don't know.
- 25:50Speaker 2: He there's very few like sport or athletes that I
- 25:58Speaker 2: think people cheer for Jamis just because people love him.
- 26:02Speaker 2: It he could play it. He's playing in Cleveland, Ohio.
- 26:06Speaker 2: No direspect to Cleveland, but it is tough. Yeah, it's
- 26:09Speaker 2: been thy. How many keybies that they have who know right,
- 26:13Speaker 2: But but Jameis Winston to be there and just have
- 26:16Speaker 2: people who not even Browns fans, it's just like, h
- 26:19Speaker 2: I want.
- 26:20Speaker 1: You to do good on Sunday. But I A yeah, yeah, It's.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Like I'm telling you, like God rest my name assault.
- 26:25Speaker 2: She just passed away, but it's God. It was like
- 26:28Speaker 2: she loves Lamar, she loves Josh Allen and she and
- 26:31Speaker 2: she loves like Tom Brady and and Peyton Manning. But
- 26:37Speaker 2: James Winson. She just said, I just I just wanted
- 26:39Speaker 2: to look. I want the boy to do well. Yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 2: it's something by his spirit, you know, what I mean.
- 26:43Speaker 2: So it's just I say, Jamis is one of my
- 26:47Speaker 2: favorite uh just just people. I've never even met him,
- 26:51Speaker 2: but he's just one of my favorite people to just
- 26:53Speaker 2: watch it. I'm just like, man, I just want him
- 26:54Speaker 2: do well.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Wa A couple more for you. Which NFL player do
- 26:59Speaker 1: you think needs his own podcast because he's got an
- 27:02Speaker 1: interesting life, because he's fun to watch on the field,
- 27:05Speaker 1: because he's got a big personality. Currently yeah, currently playing well.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Jameis Winston needs his own podcast, he needs his own church. Uh,
- 27:17Speaker 2: that's a fact. I would say. After that, As far
- 27:20Speaker 2: as you know who has a good personality, what's the
- 27:25Speaker 2: He's a rookie here, Kean Coleman. I think as he
- 27:31Speaker 2: goes and grows, he's gonna he's gonna be one of
- 27:35Speaker 2: those guys where it's like, oh, man, I like that guy.
- 27:38Speaker 1: He is like Jamis where he is funny, but he
- 27:41Speaker 1: is just Kean's just being himself and he's not Kian's
- 27:44Speaker 1: not trying to be funny. Ke On just being who
- 27:47Speaker 1: Keon is. And with that you just get a lot
- 27:50Speaker 1: of laughter because he's just got such a great personality.
- 27:54Speaker 1: He he he won't stop talking. It's so funny to
- 27:56Speaker 1: watch him interact with some of our older guys when
- 27:58Speaker 1: some of our older guys are like me and you
- 28:00Speaker 1: don't stop.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I think I've seen it's something he did a he
- 28:04Speaker 2: had like an ad or Niagara Falls or something. He said,
- 28:11Speaker 2: book with me if you want to cut to the fall,
- 28:14Speaker 2: like what like what is he? He said, oh, man,
- 28:17Speaker 2: it's what else? Like so his? And then I think
- 28:21Speaker 2: he did his interview when he it was the cookies.
- 28:24Speaker 2: He said, you gonna eat them cookies? He said, nah,
- 28:28Speaker 2: I want to cook like like just he just being
- 28:31Speaker 2: himself like you you like when people are unapologetically themselves.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That's I think that sales. I think for me, I
- 28:40Speaker 2: think once I took my helmet off from playing football,
- 28:43Speaker 2: I was able to be more of myself. That's why
- 28:45Speaker 2: I tell like guys who going to the league or
- 28:47Speaker 2: whatever sport they play, I'm like, don't ever, like, you know,
- 28:52Speaker 2: waiver from being yourself. Like I think being yourself keeps
- 28:56Speaker 2: you in more rooms and just than trying to be
- 28:58Speaker 2: somebody else.
- 28:59Speaker 1: And it's it's gonna make you more money at the
- 29:01Speaker 1: end of the day because brands are going to reach out.
- 29:03Speaker 1: This is an era where social media is huge and
- 29:07Speaker 1: people are wanting to partner with athletes because if so
- 29:09Speaker 1: and so speaks about this, then I want what they're
- 29:12Speaker 1: talking about or I'm interested. So yeah, I think if
- 29:15Speaker 1: you show your personality and I know it's you know,
- 29:17Speaker 1: you got to play the game too, and you got
- 29:19Speaker 1: to be focused on what's going on. But that doesn't
- 29:21Speaker 1: mean that you need to shy away from being yourself.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And I think going back to Sean McDermott, he does
- 29:26Speaker 1: a great job of saying no, we want you like
- 29:29Speaker 1: we want who you are, and it's we can fit
- 29:32Speaker 1: it into who we are as the team. One of
- 29:34Speaker 1: the offenses mantras is like be you with us. So
- 29:38Speaker 1: you see a lot of guys coming in here, and
- 29:40Speaker 1: you see a lot of great personalities like Deon Dawkins
- 29:42Speaker 1: is another one, and they don't change their strikes.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Dion comes in here with no shirt on. He walks
- 29:47Speaker 2: freezing cold, no shirt like, but he him but he's
- 29:51Speaker 2: himself and he performs as himself. He's comfortable with himself.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I always tell people Coach mc dermott, he's DC in
- 29:59Speaker 2: Carolina right And at this moment, I'm you know, I'm
- 30:03Speaker 2: I was frustrated because I'm like, man, I'm doing everything
- 30:05Speaker 2: on the field, Like why can't I can I get
- 30:07Speaker 2: some playing time? Like what what the hell? Like what
- 30:10Speaker 2: do y'all want? What else do I gotta do? I'm
- 30:12Speaker 2: making plays, I'm doing this. Come on. And he was
- 30:15Speaker 2: just like he could. It was just one day, he said, Lou.
- 30:19Speaker 2: He said, listen, your energy. Your energy's off. It's showing
- 30:25Speaker 2: and it stanks. He said, the reason why you're in
- 30:29Speaker 2: this room. Yes, you're talented, you can play ball, but
- 30:33Speaker 2: your energy. If you don't have your energy, you're not
- 30:36Speaker 2: gonna be you. You have to be And I was
- 30:38Speaker 2: just like, damn, you know what I'm saying. So I
- 30:41Speaker 2: was like, well, I'm gonna get my energy back, right,
- 30:45Speaker 2: I need to get this check. But it was more
- 30:47Speaker 2: than that. It was like and now years later, I'm like,
- 30:51Speaker 2: I just had to be myself. I was trying to
- 30:54Speaker 2: be like, no, you gotta be me. And that's why
- 30:56Speaker 2: I tell people just being you is better than being
- 30:59Speaker 2: some Okay, so being you.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Let's finish off with what does Uncle Shlu have to
- 31:04Speaker 1: say about the bills or about the game today?
- 31:08Speaker 2: Uh?
- 31:08Speaker 1: Oh, you want to turn it on for a second.
- 31:11Speaker 2: No, Uncle Shlu would just be like listen, man. Uh,
- 31:16Speaker 2: there's there's times in life where you got look, you
- 31:19Speaker 2: gotta look yourself in the mirror, right, And and like
- 31:25Speaker 2: Uncle Shou would basically say, look when I played right,
- 31:31Speaker 2: we didn't have all this, all this glitz and glamor
- 31:34Speaker 2: and this that green street and all this stuff. You spoiled,
- 31:39Speaker 2: you know what I mean. We didn't have Rodell's. We
- 31:42Speaker 2: at one bar, you know what I mean, one strap,
- 31:45Speaker 2: you know what I mean, all this pregame meal. The
- 31:48Speaker 2: meal was on the field, right, Go eat, go hunt.
- 31:53Speaker 2: You got all dirts, you got avocado toast. What is this? Huh?
- 32:00Speaker 2: The problem with the generation today is this my camera?
- 32:03Speaker 2: Where we're at the problem with the generation today? You know,
- 32:06Speaker 2: not a hunt. You don't know how to get your prey,
- 32:11Speaker 2: kill or be killed, Eat a beat eaten. The real
- 32:16Speaker 2: will survive. The eye in the sky has never a lot. Huh.
- 32:27Speaker 2: One plus one equal two. Multiply times two. You get four.
- 32:32Speaker 2: If we get four, we get a little more. We
- 32:35Speaker 2: put it in the pot. We put it in the
- 32:38Speaker 2: pot and stir it up. Let's see what we can make.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Let's make lemonade today. Know what I'm saying?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Hell yeah, I loved it. That's a winning speech right there.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all the top. I never heard that. That's
- 32:55Speaker 2: all the dome. So, uh, they want to use that
- 32:59Speaker 2: copyright it to me.
- 33:01Speaker 1: We'll be playing in the locker room before the game.
- 33:03Speaker 2: I don't even need a big percentage. I just need
- 33:07Speaker 2: we'll talk. We'll talk, we'll talk, we'll.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Talk, we'll talk. Lou thank you so much for sitting down,
- 33:11Speaker 1: getting us pumped up for this game and telling us
- 33:13Speaker 1: a little bit about the Lou Young Show and life
- 33:15Speaker 1: in the NFL. We appreciate it.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Make sure tune in to the Lou Young Show. Uh,
- 33:20Speaker 2: what's my all my things is at l you you? You?
- 33:25Speaker 2: You three year's young? Uh? Instagram, Twitter, TikTok run the
- 33:33Speaker 2: follow us up Lou Young third YouTube. Yeah we got
- 33:36Speaker 2: more stuff on the way. So yeah, this is the

- 33:42Speaker 2: tune out.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I say tune in.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I like that.
- 33:49Speaker 1: All right, Thank you, everybody appreciate it, No problem.
