- 0:0010 gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:09Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:13Who Welcome back to the Three O Take presented by Schnooks
- 0:18Eatery. This episode 588, I'll be your
- 0:21host, Kyle Corwin. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:25Reyes. Nate.
- 0:29Welcome, welcome back, welcome back.
- 0:32It's been 2 years since our last episode.
- 0:37Haven't changed a bit. Feels like a long time.
- 0:41I'm rusty. It's been a minute.
- 0:44Yeah, how are we doing I. Have a feeling corner?
- 0:47KC How are we? I've have a feeling this episode
- 0:51is going to go off the rails with the way that I.
- 0:55Couldn't be less locked in. Well, I'm glad you brought that
- 0:58up because I, you know, we're now in the new year 2026.
- 1:02Welcome. But I got to say, I, I have
- 1:07thoroughly impressed even myself with how much that I've stayed
- 1:13out, or I guess I should say how little I've been involved in and
- 1:16tuned into the rumor mill. I've made it, I've made a very
- 1:20intentional effort to to avoid it.
- 1:22And I tell you what it is paid off.
- 1:25It is paid dividends. Like I, I highly recommend,
- 1:29highly recommend if you have a chance to just well, yeah, I
- 1:33mean, at this point, most of you guys too far gone, but it
- 1:37starting in the winter, the offseason of 2026, this coming
- 1:42this coming offseason, go ahead and just get out in front of
- 1:46that. Just mentally prepare to not
- 1:48waste your time reading these contradicting reports that are
- 1:52just made-up and being pushed as leverage.
- 1:55Tell you what, it does wonders for your mentals and I.
- 1:58I couldn't be happier to be here to talk about things that have
- 2:02actually happened. All right.
- 2:04Good deal. This sounds like a guy.
- 2:07This sounds like a guy whose team has just continued to miss
- 2:12the mark, continued to miss the mark day after day.
- 2:17In fact, it's it's hard to miss a mark when you're not even
- 2:22you're not even shooting the shot They're.
- 2:24They're coming for me. What is that?
- 2:33A clown car? What?
- 2:34What is that? Just an ambulance.
- 2:41Oh man, they got. They've got to.
- 2:43Go they're. Going at it.
- 2:46They've got the Yankees 2026 postseason chances in in the.
- 2:52Back please move the manipulator is not working.
- 2:59Call the doctor. Let them know we're coming.
- 3:05Oh, it's a Rockies fan just celebrating the Michael Lorenzen
- 3:07Sunday. Yeah, that's.
- 3:09That's sneak that in there, that's what.
- 3:11Really had me thinking that this is just going to be sort of an
- 3:14off the rails episode. Like seconds before we hit their
- 3:17chord button. Nate goes, well, let's add that
- 3:19to the list of topics. And it's I'm like scrambling for
- 3:22my phone thinking it's like Bichette or Bregman.
- 3:26And he hits us with the Michael Lorenzen which.
- 3:28Who, by the way, no disrespect. Who, by the way, if you didn't
- 3:32know, where's Vans? They were made into spikes.
- 3:39Yeah. That's crazy.
- 3:41Crazy, right? Yeah.
- 3:43Fantastic. Yeah.
- 3:44Also, did you know that Todd Frazier played me baseball in
- 3:52New Jersey? Yes.
- 3:56Isn't that insane? Baseball knowledge, baby.
- 4:00Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
- 4:03Speaking of baseball knowledge, let's get into what we know has
- 4:07happened thus far. That should be your new what's,
- 4:11what are the things that you do with the new year?
- 4:13What are they called resolutions?
- 4:15Yeah, that should be one of your resolutions is to limit the
- 4:17amount of Segways. I love a Segway.
- 4:20I'm such a sucker for Segways 40. 8 Segways per episode.
- 4:28Well, I'm already working on limiting my as it pertains to or
- 4:32whatever I say I'm working on. I'm working on cutting that
- 4:37back. Speaking of cutting back.
- 4:40Speaking of cutting back, the Marlins are really trimming
- 4:44down. No, Edward Cabrera is is on his
- 4:49way to Chicago. Not literally.
- 4:52I don't know where he's at at the current moment, but just for
- 4:55the for the first of the future, for the foreseeable future will
- 4:59be playing for the Cubs. I think what he's got three
- 5:03years, three years left under team control.
- 5:09Yeah, Under team control through 2028.
- 5:12Chicago or excuse me, Miami in return, getting a decent haul,
- 5:19getting some some prospects headlined by Owen.
- 5:24This is going to be an episode of of names that I'm not going
- 5:28to know how to pronounce, so I'm just going to go ahead and get
- 5:30out in front of that. Top outfield prospects Owen
- 5:37Casey Casey Casey. It's just Casey.
- 5:44Just Casey, it's CAISS i.e. How do you?
- 5:49Casey. How would you even say that?
- 5:53Yeah, Casey. I don't know if Josh is a guy
- 5:56that I can particularly trust with names because I think he,
- 5:59you said, didn't you pronounce it Nolan MacLean?
- 6:03He did. Oh, did I miss that?
- 6:04Did I? I think it's McClain.
- 6:06There's a McClain right down the road from where I'm at here.
- 6:09It's actually where I work and I don't know if Lea.
- 6:11N. I'm assuming it's the same, but
- 6:14it's if it is the same, it's McClain.
- 6:16He dropped to Noah Hiles earlier.
- 6:20Well, who's to say that sounds that sounds right?
- 6:22Probably. The only pronunciation that they
- 6:25have on baseball reference is Cowboy Otani.
- 6:30Cowboy Otani. Or McLean McLean.
- 6:35It's yeah. It's McLean.
- 6:37It's McLean. Speaking of McLean, McLean.
- 6:40I don't care about Mets so. Me neither.
- 6:46Shout out to the Mets. Speaking of the Mets, the
- 6:48Marlins 4 have 4 already have traded Edward Cabrera to the
- 6:53Cubs. This episode is going to be a a
- 6:56mess good for the Cub. Is anybody is anybody 'cause I
- 7:02was was is anybody else surprised that they actually
- 7:05pulled the trigger? Because I feel like Edward
- 7:07Cabrera has been on the block for since, frankly, before he
- 7:12was even in Major League Baseball.
- 7:14It's. Been a been a minute.
- 7:16He he picked up a baseball for the first time in his life and
- 7:19was already placed on the. Block, I feel like was the case
- 7:23placed, Yeah, good deal. I like it.
- 7:27I mean, I didn't he have didn't he have an injury at a certain,
- 7:33I don't know, last year, year before or something like that.
- 7:36He was like. Even banged up a couple times I
- 7:38think. Few.
- 7:39Times even. Really, really good.
- 7:41And then it's pretty injury prone, something I don't know.
- 7:44You want to talk about a a heartbreaker and fantasy.
- 7:47This is a guy that I held out so much hope for and I'm like, this
- 7:51is this dude is going to be the real deal from a fantasy
- 7:54perspective. I I can't speak to much beyond
- 7:57that, but I had I had high hopes for him and I just, I had to let
- 8:00him go. I said I've I've tried too too
- 8:04too much for too long with this guy and it just didn't paint out
- 8:08but. It's going to be neat, neat to
- 8:10see good depth for the, for the rotation for cabos, you know?
- 8:16So now they've got Cabrera, Imanaga, Tayon and Boyd.
- 8:22And Horton? Kate Horton, Yeah, it's like a
- 8:27rotation of fours. No disrespect.
- 8:32Yeah, I was waiting for it. I was waiting for it.
- 8:35My goodness. 4 starters. Tate Horton was the finalist for
- 8:39rookie of the year, right? Pretty sure.
- 8:41Whatever. Sounds like a four to Nate.
- 8:44Yeah, unreal. I mean, Cabrera's this year was
- 8:48Cabrera. This past year was Cabrera's
- 8:49first time over 100 innings. Career high. 1:37 There's a lot
- 8:54of injuries. That's what I'm saying man.
- 8:55The potential just never. Closer really was fulfilled.
- 9:01Am I crazy? Was it this past offseason or
- 9:05was it this past or excuse me not, I'll say the postseason.
- 9:08Was it this past postseason or two postseasons ago where
- 9:12Matthew Boyd really shined? Was that?
- 9:18I feel like it was 2 postseason ago at this point.
- 9:25Matthew Boyd is, I think he's a little underrated here.
- 9:29I thought last year was his first year as a cub.
- 9:31No, this year was this. Well, 2025 was.
- 9:34Yeah. Oh, so then it was it.
- 9:36It would have had to been 24. In 24, he was with Cleveland.
- 9:39Cleveland, eight games. Right.
- 9:42But remember they brought him back.
- 9:44Yeah, Yeah, They brought him back late and he, if assuming
- 9:47I'm remembering correctly, had he.
- 9:49I think he diced. Yeah, he he did.
- 9:52So I mean, it's I don't know if they're if they're seeing
- 9:55similar things under the hood at this point.
- 9:56But you know, I don't know if two games quantum all fours is
- 10:00fair. Two games for.
- 10:02Cleveland there 6 and 2/3 and five innings.
- 10:05Only gave up one run in that postseason.
- 10:07Yeah. Really.
- 10:09I mean was good. He was good for the Cubs in 25
- 10:13as well in the postseason, a Wild Card game and ADS game that
- 10:17were both. Maybe it wasn't this one then,
- 10:19Casey. No, the the Cleveland one was
- 10:21real, No. He was lights out.
- 10:22Yeah, yeah, because it I remember you're right.
- 10:25He he missed a lot of time and and then we're like, what what
- 10:28can you really expect from this? Then he she showed up.
- 10:31I mean, six games total, six games started, 7 total games for
- 10:36him because he pitched with Seattle for an out, so whatever.
- 10:41But 21 and 2/3, just four runs. He's a post season guyer I
- 10:44guess. Postseason legend Matthew Boyd,
- 10:49and you're calling him a four? He's a four.
- 10:51I mean, this is one of the all time greats we've ever seen in
- 10:54the postseason. Didn't Imonaga have like a huge
- 10:57fall off last year? Yeah.
- 10:59Well, what he, yeah, what he was doing wasn't sustainable.
- 11:03Yeah, he really had thought it. Was like a massive, yeah, little
- 11:07wet one. Yeah.
- 11:08It was walking up the stairs it. Was kind of it was one of those,
- 11:12but like I said, what he was doing wasn't sustainable.
- 11:14But if, if you can sort of if you can spread out the, the ask
- 11:22if you will amongst many guys and, and rather than putting it
- 11:26all one or two, hopefully will lighten a load for a guy like
- 11:29Imanaga who can then just go out there and try to pitch at a pace
- 11:33that's more sustainable. And I think they'll be better
- 11:36off for it. Very good defensive team.
- 11:40Yeah, they can cover for a lot of, I mean, Imanaga still had a
- 11:45373 last year, but his but his FIP was 486.
- 11:48So there's a lot of the defense helping him out.
- 11:53Yeah, yeah. Cool.
- 11:55Fair enough. Speaking of Speaking of defense,
- 12:01Okamoto to the Blue Jays, which by the way, I feel like I need.
- 12:05I mean, it's a great segue because I don't think they even
- 12:08really know where he's playing yet.
- 12:09So as a 1010 out of 10, five stars, if you will, segue.
- 12:17I need to preface this by saying some of the things I think we're
- 12:19going to touch on today are a little older in nature in terms
- 12:24of timeline, but we have not recorded since just like us,
- 12:29older in nature. Relax we have not recorded since
- 12:34the 18th of December. Hello.
- 12:37Wow that's right because we didn't I thought we might get a
- 12:41pre Christmas recording and I said you know what, enjoy the
- 12:44break boys, scrap. It.
- 12:46We'll see you on the other side. Scrap it.
- 12:49Which is a real shame. Just waste of breath the last
- 12:53two weeks done nothing, eating everything.
- 12:56Insight. It hasn't stopped.
- 12:59I thought it would. I thought it would come to an
- 13:00end if it hasn't. Yeah, I mean, what, what what
- 13:04was Monday the 5th? I feel like that's sort of like
- 13:07the collective understanding, like stopping point for just all
- 13:12the bad habits from over the over the holidays and you were
- 13:15just like, no, I'm going to double down.
- 13:17Actually, I had a gallon of chicken Alfredo tonight before
- 13:21we recorded. So I'm just, I'm just in
- 13:24shambles just reading. The only, the only baseball
- 13:28stuff I read is the lack of moves that the Yankees are
- 13:30doing. And then I get depressed and eat
- 13:35and here we are. That's a clip.
- 13:37Yeah, all of you idiots are tuned in to listen to me.
- 13:43Wow, Really, really warming up to the hearts of of our
- 13:46listeners. Yeah, Welcome to 2026.
- 13:50Speaking of 2026, that is the year that's Okamoto, Kazuma
- 13:55Okamoto. I said I struggle with names.
- 13:57I think I, I think I nailed that one.
- 13:59Kazuma Okamoto signed with the Blue Jays four year, $60 million
- 14:04deal. As I mentioned, it seems
- 14:06defensively at least he's a little bit up in the air.
- 14:10I saw today that's the was it the Cubs and the Red Sox.
- 14:17Again, I'm I'm staying out of the rumor mill, but as it, as it
- 14:20relates to the Blue Jays, there it is.
- 14:23As it as it pertains to the Blue Jays and the the gaps that they
- 14:29might need to fill, I think I saw that the Cubs and the Red
- 14:33Sox were the two teams that were actively pursuing both Alex
- 14:38Bregman and Boba Shet so that may, you know, shake things up
- 14:45defensively for them a little bit whether.
- 14:47What else does Okamoto play? Based on how that ends up. 2
- 14:51gold gloves at third base and one at first base.
- 14:54So like that. I mean, he's he's very capable
- 14:57defenseman. And I'm seeing as hockey or
- 15:02defense. No, it is it a surefire thing at
- 15:06this point that Boba shed is no longer a short stop like are are
- 15:09we just are we taking that to the bank?
- 15:11I. Think it depends on the team.
- 15:13Does it though because I'm. On who's telling you that?
- 15:17Well, it, it's his camp, right, That's coming out being like we
- 15:20can move. And when you, when you the
- 15:22second you come off of your, your natural position, I feel
- 15:26like you've lost all positional leverage.
- 15:32Yeah, probably. I don't know.
- 15:35I mean what it? I mean, he's not playing short
- 15:38in Boston if he ends up in Boston somehow.
- 15:40If we're talking Blue Jays, it feels like Okamoto like takes
- 15:44Bregman out of the hunt more than it takes Boba Shet out of
- 15:49the hunt in my mind. And then just run it back with
- 15:53him. And is it short and bichette at
- 15:552nd? Yeah, I get.
- 15:56I was in my mind, I feel like I had kind of ruled him out of
- 16:00Toronto 'cause I I just feel like if something was going to
- 16:02happen there, it would have already happened.
- 16:04But that. But now I just feel like we're
- 16:05waiting out these other teams that are.
- 16:07Who? Bregman or Bichette?
- 16:09Bichette, sorry. So in my mind, Bichette's not
- 16:11even he wasn't even necessarily a factor in in Toronto, but may
- 16:15I mean, who's to say? So let me ask you this.
- 16:17You're making the call, you have Okamoto there.
- 16:20Would you still pursue Bichette as a second baseman and try to
- 16:25either move Clement or or keep him around?
- 16:30Or are you just going all in on Tucker?
- 16:32Because the chances are at this point, they're they got one
- 16:35more, they got one more sign. It's not Tucker and one of those
- 16:40infielders. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:45I mean, I have my thoughts about Kyle Tucker and I feel like
- 16:48we've shared those as his free agency has has gone on.
- 16:52But I feel like even still, I would rather have a guy like
- 16:57Kyle Tucker and then just plug the holes, have it be sort of a,
- 17:01a, what's the word, a platoon of sorts.
- 17:05If if need be on the infield, wherever you need to.
- 17:09Because I'd rather have, I'd rather have more of a more of a
- 17:12star that Tucker has has shown that he can be.
- 17:16Obviously at times, maybe not the entire time, but at times
- 17:21and then make it work elsewhere around the field rather than go
- 17:24with a guy who's already shown you defensive aggression is just
- 17:28not good defensively. And there's there would be a
- 17:31realistic chance that he wouldn't even be playing the
- 17:34position that he held it down for you for the time that he's
- 17:36been there. I just feel like that's a weird
- 17:38situation to put yourself in. So I'd rather just I don't know
- 17:42it. I'm not saying the it's bad
- 17:44blood in Toronto between Bichette and and the Blue Jays,
- 17:47but it just seems like with all the what like with the narrative
- 17:51that's been been going on, I just feel like Bichette's at
- 17:55this point as good as gone. So I'm just like, why, why even?
- 17:59And maybe they're not maybe they're not entertaining that
- 18:01option anymore. Maybe they've since moved on and
- 18:04maybe it's just the media that's hanging on to this as a as an
- 18:07option, but I don't know. I just see, I don't see him
- 18:10being a factor. I think for for them he's been a
- 18:13second base option the whole time because then he would just
- 18:18leave Clement at 3rd. In that case the arm is one of
- 18:21the problems. Then you don't want him at third
- 18:23either. I think it's.
- 18:26I think the signing of Okamoto because they they have said we
- 18:31want to use him as like a super utility, right?
- 18:34Like they they have come out and said that.
- 18:36I don't know. I think that with the
- 18:39combination of like what Ernie Clement did in the post season
- 18:44this last year, it's it's almost like he deserves that shot to
- 18:47play second every day. I think you can take whatever
- 18:53Jimenez provides with a bat because he's a wizard with the
- 18:56glove. Then you go after Kyle Tucker.
- 18:59Especially now that like there's rumors about maybe willingness
- 19:03to take a shorter high AAV deal. That's what I would go for.
- 19:08And it feels like a pushing chips in the middle of the table
- 19:12while everyone's in their prime without long term commitment to
- 19:17a guy that seems to have some paws around him in Tucker and
- 19:22they're. Pretty right-handed too.
- 19:24Yeah, yeah, you put him in the middle of that and.
- 19:28Trade Santander. Yeah, I think you would have to
- 19:31package something to get rid of Santander just because of
- 19:37whatever last year was Poop fest.
- 19:42I'm not. I'm not giving up.
- 19:43I'm not giving up on on Tony Taters.
- 19:46I'm not doing it. Yeah, it's got to be two
- 19:48straight years for me to think that it's all.
- 19:50Over yeah, I mean we we literally talked about it when
- 19:53he signed with them. If you go back and look the I
- 19:55think it was the three, the the previous three years combined.
- 20:01Did he have? No, I don't think it was the
- 20:04most, but it was like this. Was it the second or third most
- 20:07homers in all of baseball? And you're thinking like.
- 20:10Really, Anthony Santander is in this conversation.
- 20:13It's like he it wasn't, it wasn't a flash in the pan for
- 20:17him. So going back to Josh's point,
- 20:20yeah, going back to Josh's point, I'm going to need to see
- 20:23another down year to be like, OK, we need to have a different
- 20:26conversation. Well then I mean, who else?
- 20:28Like do they move our show then have George Springer play center
- 20:32every day? Like I don't, I don't know what.
- 20:34I still move. I still move him because I'd
- 20:38still pick Tucker over him. Sure I but I think he could
- 20:41still be a good play. I think he's AI think teams will
- 20:45bite on that. There will be teams that want
- 20:48that trade 'cause they're not ready to give up on him either.
- 20:53Yeah. But that was kind of a, that was
- 20:56an overpay of a contract. From a second right.
- 20:58Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Or or take less of a return.
- 21:02Yeah, yeah. Either way, Blue Jays are in
- 21:05great shape. Whether I mean, sounds like
- 21:07they're getting one of these three.
- 21:09That's what it sounds like. Who my brain Tucker and who's
- 21:16the 3rd? Oh yeah, Tucker.
- 21:17Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's AI mean Sage.
- 21:22I know we said what we said about Bichette, but like at the
- 21:25end of the day, that's still a good player to have in that
- 21:27lineup. So it's like that's a assuming
- 21:29that is true. Talk about a good place to be in
- 21:32addition to what you've already done.
- 21:34Like we can't lose sight of what they've already done this
- 21:35offseason. They I think I don't remember,
- 21:38Nate, if you if you said it to me just off air, just shooting
- 21:42the breeze. But you said something like the
- 21:44Blue Jays are just going to run this division for what seems to
- 21:47be the immediate future. I don't know how how sustainable
- 21:52it'll be, but like they're, they're the only team that's
- 21:56making I feel like a, a, a genuine effort to to really take
- 22:01strides talent wise. Well, especially because the AL
- 22:04was like already up for grabs in the 1st place coming into this
- 22:07Last Post season. Then you see him there like
- 22:10finally emerge and like become themselves the movie if you
- 22:14will. And now it's just like I I
- 22:19especially in the East. But I would say the rest of the
- 22:22AL was not holding a candle to what the Blue Jays are capable
- 22:27of doing. And the fact that they play the
- 22:30way they play, right, like, this isn't like a team that's like,
- 22:34oh, they just posted, you know, they broke the record for most
- 22:37team home runs. And they also did a bunch of
- 22:40strikeouts. But we're not worried about that
- 22:42because they were able to score runs.
- 22:43No, this is a team that scores runs.
- 22:46They don't strike out. They double down on their
- 22:48pitching depth and are probably going to be better defensively
- 22:53this year than they were last year.
- 22:54And it's like, I don't they're going to, they're getting a lot
- 22:57better. That I don't think last year was
- 22:59a fluke, and obviously their organization doesn't either.
- 23:03I said it last October, I'll say it again.
- 23:06Very much enjoyed watching that brand of baseball at that.
- 23:10Stage so fun to watch. Like that's real baseball.
- 23:13Yeah. And just the like we talked
- 23:15about the Rogers Center, the environment, all that stuff.
- 23:17And I know that gets cliche after a while, like, oh, like
- 23:19the the the atmosphere and this, that the third.
- 23:22But it's like if you have all of these moving these, these these
- 23:26pieces of the equation moving in the same direction.
- 23:29The the fan energy, the the buy in from from the fans, the buy
- 23:34in from the front office, the talent acquisition, the the
- 23:37right contract extensions being made.
- 23:39Think things like that. You can't help but as a fan of
- 23:44other teams, be jealous of of. I mean, I'm not, I'm not putting
- 23:47them in the same boat as the Dodgers, obviously, but it's the
- 23:50same thing. It's the same conversation over
- 23:52there. It's like we can sit here and
- 23:54talk about like, when is enough enough?
- 23:56And I'm not saying the Blue Jays are even at that point yet, but
- 23:58it's like we got to stop pointing fingers at teams like
- 24:02this and and really just get to a point where we're more so
- 24:06appreciating that these types of efforts are being made.
- 24:09And it's like like we talked about the brand of baseball that
- 24:11they play in particular is is fun to watch.
- 24:15Speaking of being fun to watch the actually, no, that's for a
- 24:20later segue. So I'll, I'll put that back in
- 24:23the pocket. Holster that thing.
- 24:26Yeah, so retroactively. So I'm I'm back at six Tatsuya
- 24:34eBay. How'd I do?
- 24:40There's AB, there's AB he's. Got a cold, he said.
- 24:44E my he just has a cold. I don't have a cold, did I?
- 24:47Oh, did it sound like I said E by?
- 24:48Yeah. Oh my bad.
- 24:50No, I said Oh my bad. I said Tatsuya E my.
- 24:56Yeah, there we. Go OK, you're like looking at me
- 25:00like there's ABI didn't say B to the Astros three-year deal opt
- 25:07outs after the 1st 2:00 getting comps already to actually it was
- 25:17Boris, I think was making the comps comparing him to Yamamoto.
- 25:21Yeah, it's a good name to compare him to.
- 25:25I mean, Bob Gibson, Pedro Martinez, I mean, he's right
- 25:30there. Yeah.
- 25:31Right, although I do have a question.
- 25:33Josh in the corner, can you do some research for me?
- 25:35Yeah, he which I got to find the quote.
- 25:42He said something along the lines of like he's he's
- 25:47basically done. Oh, he said certainly he's done
- 25:53everything Yamamoto's done. I didn't get the full context
- 25:56and I know I I harp on getting context before you you jump to
- 26:00conclusions, but more so less less accusatory here and more
- 26:05just curious what what does his resume look like from from over
- 26:13there? I think I saw I saw something on
- 26:16MLB Network that he lined up with pretty much all of the
- 26:21other Japanese pitchers that have come over recently.
- 26:24Like they were all hovering around 150 a 160 innings and
- 26:29they are all sub three Eras. Like he fits right in with all
- 26:34the other names. No, no, no.
- 26:36Well, yeah, I, I, I heard that, but I'm saying more so in terms
- 26:41in terms of like the resume, the accolades, because the way when
- 26:44I read that Boris quote, that's how I interpreted it, Like I
- 26:46didn't know if he was if we're comparing accolades here,
- 26:49because the Yamamoto, if I'm not mistaken, he won.
- 26:53He he won like multiple Japanese Saiyoung's isn't that is not the
- 26:58case. Yeah, but.
- 27:00Ended up winning like their equivalent of that like 3 times
- 27:04or something or am I crazy? If this graphic is right, I'm
- 27:07looking at and I I mean, I haven't, I have Emi's stuff
- 27:10right here. MVP too, Yamamoto.
- 27:14Yamamoto yeah, he won 3. MVPS 3.
- 27:21Maybe that's what I'm thinking of.
- 27:22It's like they're. Yeah.
- 27:24Four time ERA champion, three time strikeout leader, 3 Gold
- 27:29Gloves, 5 All Stars, 3 All Stars for EMI and we're done.
- 27:36OK, with none of those other things.
- 27:38That's, that's what I'm thinking of.
- 27:41It's it's often called Japan. Cy Young, Yeah.
- 27:43OK, that's multiple times for Yamamoto, none for EMI.
- 27:48Some of the innings and some of the stuff like that is fine, but
- 27:51like Yamamoto's ERA was 182, Emi's is 3/15.
- 27:57But I mean, the strikeouts are there, but there's less
- 27:59strikeouts and more innings. No, no, he doesn't compare.
- 28:04Yeah. None of these numbers are really
- 28:07dead. Too And it and I think that's
- 28:09probably why the Astros were able to win this as much as I
- 28:14say win this bid, it's like, I don't know.
- 28:18I think he's probably solid, but I don't know.
- 28:24The Astros also don't have a left-handed pitcher.
- 28:26Did you see that? Do they have their potential
- 28:30starters? With the Crawford boxes there,
- 28:33it's probably. Fun.
- 28:33No lefties, Pretty wild. It's not like right fields of
- 28:39Polo Grounds, but that's true. That's true.
- 28:43So just in fairness though, well to be.
- 28:45Fair. The corners of the the the
- 28:47corners of Polo Grounds are in fact short.
- 28:49But I I get what I get what you're saying it.
- 28:51Actually is kind. Of like the Polo Grounds.
- 28:53Yeah, yeah, I get I get what you're saying.
- 28:54It's a. Lot, yeah.
- 28:55To be fair though, the numbers like yes, they don't compare to
- 28:58Yamamoto, but they are good. In the last five years, he's
- 29:02pitched around 160 to 173 innings in each of those years.
- 29:06And those, ER, as are are low. They're all sub 3 -, 2021 which
- 29:11was A320 and this past year was a 192 ERA.
- 29:15Like it's still very good numbers.
- 29:17Yeah, he's definitely going to be good.
- 29:18Does this take the Astros out of the, I mean, they're officially
- 29:21done with Framber, right? Like, Oh yeah, that's that was
- 29:25already pretty soiled. I mean, I would be too bit
- 29:28honest with you not to like harp so much on that incident, but
- 29:32like I just, it's, it's hard not to.
- 29:35I just don't know how. I don't.
- 29:36Know who was the guy that freaking threw his glove over
- 29:39the net into the fans and still got a job?
- 29:42Then? A couple.
- 29:43Weeks later that you. Said, oh, that was wasn't that
- 29:45Jorge Lopez? Yeah, you're like, this guy's
- 29:48never going to see a Major League mountain.
- 29:49I said he will be signed by next week and I think The Who the.
- 29:56Did it go? Was it the angels?
- 29:57I thought it was the Orioles. Did he go back to the Orioles
- 30:01'cause he was? I think he was with him prior
- 30:03to. Maybe.
- 30:03Yeah, he was probably with him prior to.
- 30:06That. Projected rotation in Houston.
- 30:08Nate though is, I mean, it's possibly a six man rotation.
- 30:12Yeah. And they've talked about that a
- 30:13little bit. Hunter Brown at the top,
- 30:15Christian, Javier Emai, Lance Mccullers, Mike Burroughs and
- 30:19Ryan Weiss, who just came over from the KB.
- 30:20OI think there's arms there? Doing that, I think there's a
- 30:23lot of teams that are doing that.
- 30:25Joel Sherman was on LV Network the other day talking about how
- 30:28it's it's going to start affecting like overall numbers
- 30:31down the road with the standard that's going to be of six man
- 30:37rotations and it's this like floating six man.
- 30:40It's maybe not every 6th spot, but it's, you know, definitely
- 30:47eating up total innings across the across the board.
- 30:51And if that means guys can go longer in games and if that
- 30:54means that we can save bullpens and kind of get back to normal
- 30:58baseball, I'm all for it. If it means less wear and tear
- 31:01on starters but they can, you know, go deeper in their
- 31:05specific games or just get extra days off, sure, I'll take it.
- 31:10But I bet Hunter Brown goes every five days.
- 31:14Deservedly so, kids. Yeah, I'm a, I'm a big hunter
- 31:17brown guy. I'm also a big, I'm a big Peter
- 31:20guy. Yeah, you are.
- 31:21Yeah. Is Lance Mccullers is is he
- 31:24still floating around with that? I keep saying.
- 31:27Over it, I could not be more over Lance Mccullers, no
- 31:30disrespect, but like, I mean some how long do we ride this
- 31:35out like entertaining this is like a legitimate rotation
- 31:38option. I think he's going to be one of
- 31:40those weird guys. You just, you look at him, he's
- 31:42still probably got like two or three years left to control.
- 31:45But it just feels like this has been the story every year.
- 31:50I don't know. They're in a.
- 31:51Weird. 10 years of it's 10 years of service time.
- 31:54Yeah, OK. But.
- 31:56Yeah, he's been in a. Weird spot, dude.
- 31:57Because like they were they were talking about because they
- 32:02brought Correa back, who now has to play third.
- 32:05He's not going to play short. And then like, what do you do
- 32:08with with you have Christian Walker, you have Esock Pereides,
- 32:12and then you have Altuve moving back to 2nd.
- 32:17So you're like, that's locked down.
- 32:18The infield's locked down. What?
- 32:21And you you're going to have to DH.
- 32:23You're Don. So that weird move where they
- 32:25went and got Esau Pereiris is now like, put them in a little
- 32:29bit of a corner and. I thought he was going to get
- 32:32flipped shortly after they they. He's going to have to be Yeah.
- 32:35I mean, he's. They got to move now.
- 32:37It's you aren't going to spend that money and and effort on
- 32:40Christian Walker and not let him play every day and then you
- 32:43don't want new or Don playing in left field very often.
- 32:46Just odd. They're they've been going about
- 32:48things a little bit differently, but this is a good signing I
- 32:50guess. Speaking of spending money on
- 32:52the infield, the White Sox have added Munitaka Murakami.
- 32:59Nice, thank you. 2 year. This was just a Japanese
- 33:03episode. It, it really is episode 588,
- 33:08the Japanese episode. This is definitely one of the,
- 33:11the more, I guess you could say outdated, but just wanted to
- 33:13check the box and add to the theme, Nate, as you alluded to,
- 33:16of just these Japanese names coming off the board, 2 year,
- 33:21$34 million deal. I don't know this.
- 33:28Yeah, this was one of those ones where when the when the news
- 33:31dropped, I think everybody collectively just looked around
- 33:33at each other and asked why, Because what else would you ask?
- 33:40Wasn't there like the weird like random second the free agency
- 33:47kind of opened up and like postseason ended.
- 33:49All of a sudden he went from like, oh, let's go get a guy who
- 33:53hit almost thirty home runs in like 60 games last year to like,
- 33:59oh, he has massive strikeout problems and then interest just
- 34:02like nosedived. And then now the White Sox hit
- 34:07him. But it was, it was a very
- 34:08strange couple weeks. Around.
- 34:10You were talking about him. Yeah.
- 34:12Oh yeah. Like around I should say.
- 34:14Like, I don't, it was just a weird turn of events that that
- 34:18was strange. I kind of like it for him.
- 34:22Like name a better transition when you're changing countries
- 34:26and leagues where you're just like expectations.
- 34:29Chicago's awesome, first of all. So like, you get that cool big
- 34:32city American feel and then you get this like, well, there's no
- 34:36pressure. I can come in and figure this
- 34:39league out and run it back in a couple years and get paid again.
- 34:45Still in 28. Yeah.
- 34:48He would he would re enter free agency at 27. 27 Well, he.
- 34:53OK, bang. Maybe it would be like.
- 34:56He'll be 20, yeah. He'll be 20-6, yeah, in
- 34:59February. So it'd be for his age 28
- 35:02season. Perfect.
- 35:03Smart. Yeah, like there's literally no
- 35:05pressure. You're definitely going to play
- 35:07every day. There's no expectations.
- 35:10Just come figure this league out.
- 35:14And look, I, you know, I, every year that passes, I try to, I
- 35:20try to be, I try to fight the urge of just being an old man
- 35:25yelling at the clouds, even though I know that's inevitably
- 35:27where I'm headed. But I try to, I try to fight
- 35:29that as best I can and try to be a little more optimistic each
- 35:33year. And I'm not saying that the
- 35:36White Sox are going to do anything of note, but I, I do
- 35:39like a, a good win for a club like the White Sox every now and
- 35:44then just to, just to know that, hey, you're, you're still alive,
- 35:48you're still kicking, you're still making an effort, you're
- 35:52still spending a little bit of money.
- 35:54Also, move him. Move him next year if he has one
- 35:58good year, move him and get a nice return on what was it, 17
- 36:04AAV? Yeah, 234.
- 36:07Yeah, dude, smart. Like, why not?
- 36:11Like, no idea that they would have ever been in the running
- 36:15for any of these free agent names.
- 36:17They just kind of snuck in. Good for them.
- 36:26Speaking of good for them, good for Tyler Soderstrom, 8 or
- 36:30excuse me, 7 years, $86 million deal, the largest contract in
- 36:36franchise history for the Nameless Athletics, which we'll
- 36:41get into that in just a second. How do we feel about the?
- 36:45How do we feel about the the deal?
- 36:47Milaki, good deal. I like their core.
- 36:51Yeah, I was going to say, you talk about a team that's it's
- 36:54headed in the right direction. I feel like the, you know, we,
- 36:57we joke. Well, you joke.
- 36:58I hey, I was in there. This every time you don't got to
- 37:02tear me down to build up your fandom, no.
- 37:05You were tearing them down. I was in the A's corner.
- 37:09I. No, no, no, I quite literally
- 37:15No, no, no. Standby.
- 37:17No, no falsified reports. Whatever receipts you're looking
- 37:23through. Not BeenVerified.
- 37:25I'm sorry, who does that say? I, I have, I'm, I'm hard of
- 37:33seeing right now, but I believe that says that I picked the A's
- 37:39to make the postseason last year.
- 37:41Granted, just 'cause I didn't says that I can't like their
- 37:44core get out of my face. No, but don't act like you're
- 37:47you're a, you're a day 1A's guy like me.
- 37:50Yeah, yeah, you're day one 'cause you were just feeling
- 37:54yourself on the Hot Takes episode and slid them into the
- 37:57wild card. Get out of here.
- 38:00They're they're they're episodes of this podcast where I am
- 38:05wearing athletic gear. Can you say the same?
- 38:09No, Yeah, yeah. Where?
- 38:12Is that gear And why? Why was I wearing that gear,
- 38:15Nate? Because I bet, because I bet in
- 38:18favor of the athletics. And you know why that is?
- 38:21Because I'm an athletics guy. Yeah, Where's the visor by the
- 38:24way? It's.
- 38:25They were only 18 years back. They only get 800 and 807.
- 38:34How did how did that stack up against the Pittsburgh Pirates?
- 38:37They're in a different league. So no disrespect, no disrespect,
- 38:41no, but this, this Soderstrom deal, I, I'm, I'm with you, I I
- 38:45like their core and you know, as much as much negative press as
- 38:49they've been involved in the last multiple years at this
- 38:54point. Yeah.
- 38:57Some of this stuff is hard to deny.
- 38:58Well, sure. But like some of the some of the
- 39:01the decisions that are being made there are hard to deny that
- 39:04that they're making the team better.
- 39:07Yeah. I mean, they've tanked long
- 39:09enough and they've gotten some good dudes in the organization.
- 39:15Flip enough guys and that's that.
- 39:17I think that's what this says. Is that right?
- 39:19Like, you know, you see, like the Matt Olson's and the Matt
- 39:22Chapmans and all these names that come through and you're
- 39:25like, oh, I hope that they commit and they never do.
- 39:28And now look at them right like they're finally starting to
- 39:33commit to some names and names that are promising.
- 39:38Speaking of names, the the the Oakland, the Sacramento A's, or
- 39:43or really just the Athletics are struggling to find a name
- 39:49because the United States Patent and Trademark Office denied the
- 39:53Las Vegas Athletics submission as well as the Vegas Athletics
- 39:59submission. Yeah, you hear why?
- 40:04Because it was too like basic, too vague, too general.
- 40:11No, I think it's because of a dive bar.
- 40:14I keep seeing this thing that's been popping up of this dive
- 40:18bar, that's Las Las Vegas Athletics dive bar and they like
- 40:26trademarked it or something. And I don't know if it's real or
- 40:31not. Maybe I'm just getting MLB fast.
- 40:34Yeah, you've been. This is not the first time
- 40:36tonight that you've you've thrown out a.
- 40:39Easy at these allegations. Man, well, you're just you'd,
- 40:43you'd, you're falling victim to the, the fake news.
- 40:49What was it? Was it before we started
- 40:51recording or? After the answer is nothing, I
- 40:54fall for nothing. Josh, help me out, help me out.
- 40:57What was the thing that he just threw out there I had to Fact
- 40:59Check him on? I don't remember.
- 41:03Come on man, don't let me down. I remember he said the thing
- 41:06about the vans and I jumped in all excited, and then he was
- 41:09like, yeah, we all know. No, that wasn't it.
- 41:11Oh, I'll tell you what, it was not baseball related.
- 41:16He we were doing some bonus content earlier and we're talk
- 41:20we're on the topic of music. It was a change up more to come
- 41:23on that by the way, we're doing a change up and he goes, did you
- 41:28see that MTV is shutting down? And I said no, because it's a
- 41:32hoax. I saw that the hoax I saw the
- 41:35MTV shut down was a hoax. I saw that.
- 41:37But I never saw anything that confirm MTV was shut down.
- 41:40So. Pretty big.
- 41:41It's a pretty big hoax, man. I don't think a lot of people
- 41:44fell for that. He's, he's told me, he's told me
- 41:47that MTV has shut down and that. Stay on track, guy.
- 41:52The athletics I I was in the middle of looking that up.
- 41:57Josh in the corner, have you been?
- 41:59Finding anything I see it's too generic and geographically
- 42:04descriptive, but it does say that it's potentially confusing
- 42:08them with other local sports businesses.
- 42:10I don't see what those I'm trying to find what those
- 42:13businesses are to see if it. Look.
- 42:16Lines up their. Cider 11 hours ago A's fan group
- 42:22A's holy pop ups A's fan group Last dive bar beats team to Las
- 42:28Vegas Athletics trademark There's a whole article on it on
- 42:35a very trusted source cover Evan Altman over at Cubs Insider.
- 42:41I don't trust anything comes from the Cubs.
- 42:43Oh, I see. I see what you're looking at,
- 42:45Evan. Yeah.
- 42:46The last dive bar, that's like a whole big thing out there in
- 42:48Oakland. Like they were.
- 42:50They're a huge part of the whole like, keep the team in Oakland
- 42:54kind of thing. And they have it trademarked.
- 42:57I don't I don't know what they they applied for the rights too.
- 43:01Vague. I don't understand why it's too.
- 43:03Vague. They applied for the rights in
- 43:052024. Yeah, How that's a that's a
- 43:07whole thing. How how can you say that Las
- 43:09Vegas athletics is too vague? But they're the athletics quite
- 43:12literally have existed right since the Philadelphia days.
- 43:18Yeah, Kansas City, Philadelphia, like a long time.
- 43:21I mean, what who who died and made Las Vegas king?
- 43:26Yeah, yeah. I don't know, so let's have some
- 43:31fun. What should we name them?
- 43:33Oh, I saw somebody which they would never do this because it's
- 43:37it. It reeks of Devil Rays to me,
- 43:40which wouldn't fly. But I saw somebody thrown out
- 43:44there like the Sin City Athletics, which again, they
- 43:48wouldn't do. But like that is a workaround.
- 43:51Yeah. Didn't it have something to do
- 43:56with the fact that they were trying to simultaneously
- 43:59copyright Las Vegas and Vegas? They wanted they wanted both of
- 44:03them. Not not one or the other, but
- 44:06both. I don't know, but if I had to
- 44:08choose, Vegas Athletic sounds way better by the way.
- 44:12Vegas A's. Vegas A's, Yeah, Vegas A's.
- 44:15It's nice. That's that rolls off nice.
- 44:17Yeah, it's. Nice.
- 44:19Tell me what you think about this.
- 44:21I saw a take today where it said it's unbelievably lame when
- 44:26teams move cities but keep their name.
- 44:29How do we feel about that? I agree.
- 44:31If you're going to rebrand, rebrand, you know.
- 44:34If you're going to relocate, relocate.
- 44:36If you're going to rebrand, rebrand.
- 44:38Yeah, I mean, the Dodgers did it.
- 44:40So that was the Giants. Yeah, Then it was it, would
- 44:44they? That's what they were doing.
- 44:45And the fact that the athletics have done it a couple times, I
- 44:48think it does make sense to keep that going.
- 44:50But yeah, I don't, I don't. That's a fine take.
- 44:56Yeah, just curious. Maybe just go with like since
- 44:59they have an elephant, just pick something like that.
- 45:02Go go like lean into the elephant.
- 45:04I don't know what that is. I.
- 45:07Don't know the Vegas slot machines?
- 45:13I mean, they're, I mean, there's a, there's an endless amount of
- 45:17names you could roll with if you wanted to lean into that.
- 45:19I mean, it's kind of it's a cop out, but I mean, you are there,
- 45:22you're going to be there presumably.
- 45:24Spades. That's kind of cool.
- 45:26I like that. Yeah, that'd be.
- 45:30I like that. So long as they don't just use
- 45:34like the baseball club. Yeah, don't do.
- 45:38That I lean into that put the put the club up there on the on
- 45:41the logo. Oh.
- 45:42Like the club, Like the cards. Yeah.
- 45:45Oh, sorry, that's what I thought you were saying was that one is
- 45:47that you were you were just saying like watch the generic
- 45:50club. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:52I was going. I thought you were talking
- 45:53cards. I'm like it's Nah, it couldn't
- 45:55be the worst options. Yeah, let's.
- 45:57Go Redskins. True.
- 45:58However, the Vegas the which I know I I already know what
- 46:03nature's response this is going to be, but the women's
- 46:06basketball team out there, they're the aces.
- 46:09So maybe they wouldn't want to lean into the cards angle.
- 46:13Yeah, how about the flops? Speaking of flops, man.
- 46:21We're out of, we're out of round.
- 46:22Number. I think we skipped 9.
- 46:23I don't think I did 9. I rounded.
- 46:26Up. Speaking of flops, not a flop.
- 46:31Our. Sweet young Prince committing to
- 46:34Team USA rounding that line up out it's been.
- 46:37Lord, this has been a while. It has been a while.
- 46:40It's been a minute since we recorded, but I mean, I wasn't
- 46:44going to record for the first time since what?
- 46:47What did I say the 18th and not talk about this?
- 46:50Last year. I couldn't be more, more
- 46:58thrilled. I, I'm, I'm ecstatic.
- 47:04I I even shed a tear when I saw the news.
- 47:07I'm sure you did. It also happened to be
- 47:10particularly windy and cold that day, so I think that was playing
- 47:13into it 'cause I was outside walking the dog.
- 47:16But tears were tears were shed. Tears were shed, no.
- 47:23Perfect. It's way better than Peter,
- 47:25that's for sure. Speaking of of getting your
- 47:29thoughts on takes another. Now it's 10.
- 47:32Another take I saw today was it's a shame that some of these
- 47:40guys didn't commit when they would have more directly
- 47:45improved the team. In other words, some of the the
- 47:49the take was so I think it was specifically in response to
- 47:53Harper, but I think it was a more general comment, general
- 47:56comment that I think it was. Too many fart sounds this
- 48:01episode. It was a more broad discussion
- 48:04of like these guys wait until they're maybe on the decline a
- 48:08little bit, I mean. I get what you're.
- 48:11Saying is that like, is that reasonable though?
- 48:14I mean, if if that is in fact the case for some of these guys
- 48:17like is that are like, are we? I don't know, because I'm seeing
- 48:22what, what a guy like Paul Skeens is doing.
- 48:24And granted, he's not, he's not going to be going out there
- 48:26every single day like like a position player would
- 48:29necessarily, but. I think that was the case.
- 48:34You definitely could argue that for like the last year's pitch
- 48:37or the last WBC's pitchers, but I think this year is just
- 48:42different, bro. It feels, it feels new.
- 48:44IT feels different. Like Bobby Witt's clearly in his
- 48:47prime. You could say that he was just
- 48:49kind of entering the scene last time.
- 48:51He didn't even play full time. Trey Turner got most of the
- 48:54spotlight. But like Gunner, I mean, Tarek
- 48:58Schuble, you got Corbin Carroll, PCA, like we're stacked.
- 49:03We're freaking. Stack.
- 49:07Yeah, we got names that we're forgetting that are in here and
- 49:11I'm all for it. I think this is if anything it's
- 49:14more prime heavy than not you. Completely omit a judge, by the
- 49:18way. Prime don't even need to mention
- 49:23him, but I was saying names are just we've you know, that are
- 49:27young judge is, you know, 3334 and it's like yeah, that's just
- 49:36kind of like Schwarber. It's like a late bloomer.
- 49:39You're still in your prime kind of thing.
- 49:41I think that Bryce is the only one that's like somewhat like on
- 49:45the back half as as far as his performance.
- 49:48Don't say that, man. Don't say that you're going to
- 49:50make me emotional, make me emotional.
- 49:53Just let me know when the we have.
- 49:54Oh cow. Duh.
- 49:56Callie and Will Smith. Good night bro.
- 49:59This thing is done. Get me to Houston.
- 50:03Let me know. Let me know when the Harper
- 50:06jersey drops. I'm sure they're already
- 50:08cranking it out over there in China, so I'll just pause.
- 50:12Paw, what are you talking about? That's just that's Jersey facts.
- 50:17Sorry, you said cranking it out. What are where?
- 50:21Where can you get these jerseys beforehand?
- 50:23Can you or is it only on? Because I'll have to look
- 50:26around. I haven't, Admittedly have not.
- 50:28Checked around. I'm not waiting around on your
- 50:30like your weird little back alley eBay jersey that takes six
- 50:35months to show up. I mean something before.
- 50:38Well, do you want quality or not?
- 50:40Because if you don't, if you don't care, then go over to go
- 50:43over to fanatics. No disrespect, but like you just
- 50:47want to talk about homemade. She's going.
- 50:48To ask my aunt that she's a master at sewing, just say.
- 50:52Nate, make me a jersey I'm bringing, I will bring to to
- 50:56Houston these quote UN quote back alley jerseys and somebody.
- 51:01No, no, no, I've already I'm talking about ones I already
- 51:04have. Like I'm like a Bobby Witt uni
- 51:06and stuff like that. Yeah, and, and we'll find a
- 51:09Fanatics jersey. You go ahead and and let me know
- 51:13what your thoughts are because I'm I'm pretty sure I know what
- 51:16the answer is going to be. Yours was made in some Joann
- 51:20fabrics in China. Well, I'll tell you what, that
- 51:24Chinese Joann Fabrics knows what they're doing.
- 51:27I can't say the same for whatever they're doing over here
- 51:30because they it's not on the even remotely the same level.
- 51:35Any who's well on that note, I I was going to save it for the
- 51:39end, but WBC trip has officially been booked.
- 51:44So we will be there in in Houston and a nice little
- 51:48addition to the mix is that we're going to be bringing along
- 51:51some of the fantasy league, including Josh in the corner.
- 51:54It's crazy dude. Josh in the corner will be
- 51:56there. It's.
- 51:57Going to be nice. So we'll have a, have a little,
- 52:00we'll have a sizable group down there, which will be fun and
- 52:05we'll be there for, well, I think a, a good bit of us will
- 52:09be there for all three. Nate and I, I know for sure
- 52:11we'll be there for the first three games.
- 52:12We're not sticking around for the Italy game.
- 52:15Yeah, we got a life, people. We well.
- 52:17It'll be it'll be locked up by then.
- 52:19It'll be locked up and you will see.
- 52:22Clay Holmes can pitch that one. Cal Raleigh will be in Center
- 52:25for that game. So I'm not concerned.
- 52:30I am not concerned, although I got to say last pool play out in
- 52:35Phoenix, did it? Did it not come down to the last
- 52:38day? It got hairy.
- 52:39It got hairy. Cause did we play?
- 52:41Did we play Canada the last game?
- 52:44Yeah, I think 'cause the only change was.
- 52:49Or did they clinch it the night before the last game?
- 52:52I think we beat. It did get hairy 'cause we lost
- 52:56to Venezuela, we lost in Mexico, yeah.
- 53:02Beat Canada, beat Great Britain. I, I feel like Canada was the
- 53:06last game, but yeah, it did get a little hairy.
- 53:08So I granted it was a different team, but this team?
- 53:11Also, I think Canada is better than, I mean like no disrespect,
- 53:16but who's coming from Brazil? I haven't seen a single name
- 53:19commit to that team. They're rolling out janitors.
- 53:22I mean, Italy, they're, I don't know.
- 53:24I don't know what Italy is really.
- 53:26Actually, they got Pasquantino. That he's he's trying to recruit
- 53:31Roman Anthony. Busy.
- 53:34Which would be a huge addition for them.
- 53:37Caglione Caglione on that team too.
- 53:40Does he commit to that? I think Rizzo's playing, too.
- 53:42How many first baseman do they need?
- 53:44I think Rizzo. 'S Rizzo's playing.
- 53:46Yeah, I think Rizzo's playing. Hold on.
- 53:48I think I saw that. Why do I feel like you're right
- 53:53about WZC? Did he commit?
- 54:01No, he. O'Neill Tyler O'Neill.
- 54:07Oh yeah, sure. Kansas City.
- 54:09Jack Caglione officially committed to represent Italy in
- 54:12the 06/20/26 WBC. Wow.
- 54:17How about that? How about that?
- 54:21OK. Ears hurt.
- 54:30We'll warn these headphones in a while.
- 54:33Speaking of headphones, put those headphones on folks and
- 54:37and lock in for. Murray's Question of the Week.
- 54:43Murray's Question of the Week is What is 1 discontinued item you
- 54:51wish you could bring back? I've really struggled here.
- 54:57Do you have? Did you have one that
- 54:59immediately came to? Mind, I sent this to you guys
- 55:01ahead of time knowing that it was going to be a tough one,
- 55:03yeah. I like that, by the way.
- 55:06I like knowing ahead of time and getting a chance to.
- 55:08I can, yeah. I'll I'll keep in mind, no
- 55:11guarantees, but I'll do what I can.
- 55:13I have two. What do you got?
- 55:15I don't want to start JB. You go first.
- 55:16Don't even dare say dunk A ruse because one that would well, it
- 55:23would be mine. But apparently they're still.
- 55:26Yeah, but they, I don't know. They don't feel like they're
- 55:29here. They're just, I don't feel like
- 55:31they're, they're mainstream. You know, one of those that came
- 55:33to mind, but like, I had to look it up and they're still around.
- 55:35There's toaster strudels. I was like.
- 55:38They're still kicking. They're still rolling out there.
- 55:40I mean, they're people are still consuming.
- 55:43I haven't in a while but I I might stop at the store way
- 55:47home. Nah, you'll find out that
- 55:50they're not the same, probably. Yeah, dude, that's that's been
- 55:53the most disheartening aspect of being an adult is just going
- 55:56back to things that you're like, oh, this is fantastic, but.
- 56:00Nostalgia is when you have free. Will and you go and pull that
- 56:03trigger and you're like, it's awesome.
- 56:06It's fair. So we have a we have a running
- 56:08joke that anything I love will go away.
- 56:12So my list is long, OK, But I have one thing that I know for
- 56:17sure that I could bring up every time and that is Serge.
- 56:22Oh, what is? Hey, look at that.
- 56:25So I have a Serge Funko because Serge was it.
- 56:30Man, that was my that was my favorite it.
- 56:33Was like a Mountain Dew knock off.
- 56:34It was a citrus. Well, it was the I.
- 56:36Don't disrespect Serge like that.
- 56:38Yeah, that's right, it was the Coke lemon, like it was replaced
- 56:43by. Mellow Yellow.
- 56:45Yeah, Mellow Yellow was around and then it came back to replace
- 56:48Serge and. Mellow Yellow is Coke's
- 56:53contribution to the Mountain Dew contest.
- 56:56And it's, I mean, they're getting blown out of the water.
- 56:58But, and, and it is more like this is like Mountain Dew.
- 57:02Serge was not. It was a citrus soda, but it
- 57:04wasn't, it wasn't quite Mountain Dew.
- 57:07It was it was a somewhere between, like Mountain Dew and
- 57:10an energy drink. Well, I'm.
- 57:13Glad a lot of caffeine. I'm glad you brought that up
- 57:15because one of the ones that I had I had sort of made a mental
- 57:19note of was Vault. Do you remember Vault?
- 57:22I do well. So vault is surge.
- 57:25Vault was was when they were trying to bring Surge back and
- 57:28rebranding it. It was the same recipe.
- 57:31Was it really? Yes, wow, it was Surge, you
- 57:34guys. Just did not know that.
- 57:35Yeah, did not know. The other one I thought of was
- 57:37so be adrenaline rush the. So be.
- 57:40So be in general. Was sick.
- 57:42Yeah. Those glass bottles with the
- 57:44little lizard on it, Yeah. So are, yeah.
- 57:48Are Fresca still around? Yeah, dude, yeah.
- 57:51Are they really? Yeah, I've seen them.
- 57:53Look at this. Look at that.
- 57:55How many? Drinks do you have like how
- 57:57this? Is empty.
- 57:57This is from yesterday. It was just so like, but I keep
- 58:00yeah, I keep Fresca. Somebody told me that the
- 58:03closest thing the the closest thing to a white monster without
- 58:07caffeine was Fresca. So I I started buying Fresca.
- 58:11Now I'm it's not close to White Monster, but Fresca's good.
- 58:15He's. Great.
- 58:16He's Dwight. He's.
- 58:17Dwight when he didn't, when he couldn't leave his desk.
- 58:20Does that sound AC leaking? No, and they're in the back of
- 58:26the car. Oh yeah, yeah, the PT Cruiser.
- 58:27Yeah, yeah, different scene, but yeah, same.
- 58:29Thing I've got, I've got 2. I don't know how to narrow it
- 58:33down. Should I just say both of them
- 58:34and we can vote on it? Sure, because we're going to
- 58:37have like 45 minutes worth of trivia, I'm sure.
- 58:39So let's, let's get it. We'll get it out in front of.
- 58:42This. So my first one would be the
- 58:45grilled stuffed burrito from Taco Bell.
- 58:51Any comments on that? No.
- 58:53Well no, it's hard for me to say because I feel like Taco Bell
- 58:58just interchanges their menu so much where it's like new Taco
- 59:02Bell the the beefy cheesy ricey with lettuce, gordita Taco
- 59:07stuffed crunch with cheese. That are just made into 12
- 59:12different menu items. They just present it
- 59:14differently. Yeah, so like you saying the the
- 59:17grilled chicken Queso Nacho deluxe burrito.
- 59:21No, you don't know. Ball.
- 59:22You don't know Ball. It'll be back.
- 59:24It'll be back as a As a marketing campaign, it'll be
- 59:27the. Grilled stuffed burrito, you get
- 59:28it with steak and it's got like pico de Gallo and it's insane.
- 59:31OK. Moving on the other one.
- 59:34I've got another one too. Definitely easier to vote on
- 59:39just strictly because of nostalgia.
- 59:41Just punch me right in. The nostalgia would be the iPod.
- 59:47Oh yes. Oh, that's a good call though.
- 59:49Yeah. Have you seen that the, the
- 59:52latest, like I, I don't know if they still call it the iPod
- 59:58shuffle, but I think it's, it's gone through so many iterations
- 1:00:01that it's basic. It's basically back, dude.
- 1:00:06If I say, hey, if I got his own domain in there, Josh, if I, if
- 1:00:10I say like, I'd love to see them bring the Model T back.
- 1:00:13Are you going to like go into the closet and roll out the like
- 1:00:16the original? You got to come up with
- 1:00:18something else. I don't have anything from
- 1:00:19saying find. Me a grilled stuffed burrito
- 1:00:23somewhere in there. What was I saying?
- 1:00:26What was your last thing, Nate? IPod The.
- 1:00:29IPod yeah then it's like apparently gone through so many
- 1:00:31iterations it is basically like gone full circle and it's like
- 1:00:35back to what it used to be and they're like presenting it as
- 1:00:38this new thing I don't know but anyway I.
- 1:00:40Agree with you, they got us in a chokehold.
- 1:00:43They do. I admit it.
- 1:00:45The last thing I'll add, which I don't know if it really counts
- 1:00:48'cause I guess do they still have pancakes at, at McDonald's.
- 1:00:50But the the the hotcakes meal that came in the yellow
- 1:00:54Styrofoam tray, you know what I'm talking about.
- 1:00:57Just cooking up some chemicals in there.
- 1:00:59No doubt. But I tell you what, nostalgia
- 1:01:02is a powerful drug. And I'm I'm, I'm victims.
- 1:01:06That's actually you could broaden that.
- 1:01:07Just bring back the actual dollar menu.
- 1:01:11That's a great. Anyway, fantastic.
- 1:01:14Affordable groceries. Dude I mean I think back to like
- 1:01:182. Dollars.
- 1:01:20I think back to bad days, dude, I used to eat at Speedway.
- 1:01:24I used to eat those cheeseburger roller dogs.
- 1:01:27They were like cheeseburger Lynx.
- 1:01:29I couldn't imagine. You want to talk about
- 1:01:31chemicals? I want to know what his.
- 1:01:33Doctor reports Look like this man's been consuming some crazy
- 1:01:37stuff. White monsters.
- 1:01:39Seekage Speaking of crazy stuff, let's get into some trivia.
- 1:01:45Let's get into some trivia. I need to, I need to whip up a
- 1:01:48Jingle for, for, for Josh's segment.
- 1:01:51Honestly, I don't know how I haven't done that already.
- 1:01:53JB's Jingle. So Nate called this.
- 1:01:55He said this is really a theme going with the Japanese born
- 1:02:00players. I'm going to stay on that theme
- 1:02:02for trivia, so get your mind set on that and I'll, I'll, I'll set
- 1:02:08you up a little bit here. Ichiro Suzuki and Yoshi Sutugo
- 1:02:12have something in common in their first year in the MLB
- 1:02:16after coming over from Japan. They hit eight home runs in
- 1:02:19their first season. There are 9 Japanese players to
- 1:02:22hit 10 or more. 6 have hit 14 or more.
- 1:02:26And I'll kick, I'll, I'll do one to kick start you because it is
- 1:02:30a tough one to Yoshi Shinjo, if you remember him, Yeah.
- 1:02:36Hit ten home runs for the Mets in 2001.
- 1:02:40The other 8 range from 2003 to 2023.
- 1:02:46Eight players, most home runs in their first season.
- 1:02:50Oh, in their first. In their first and this is so
- 1:02:54this is Japanese born players, Japanese born players coming
- 1:02:58over from Japan. So like not like a guy who went
- 1:03:01to Japan for a few years and then came back to Major League
- 1:03:03right. So there's eight of these 10 or
- 1:03:06more home runs. You you just you just got the
- 1:03:09first one. Shohei Otani.
- 1:03:10Good. Job.
- 1:03:12Down to 7. Hideki Matsui.
- 1:03:15There you go. That's two of.
- 1:03:17All right, two of eight. Hold on, hold on.
- 1:03:20Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
- 1:03:21Let's think this through because we're we're, we're real close to
- 1:03:23me to. Maximum is the 20, is the 2003
- 1:03:27by the way, that's the oldest name on here.
- 1:03:31How did How did Can you tell us the home run total?
- 1:03:36What? What does that matter?
- 1:03:38Just listen. Well, it's 10 or more, so
- 1:03:42Shohei. Otani, the most, you said the
- 1:03:44most in their in their first season, that's all.
- 1:03:46Yeah, he's looking for the top. What'd you say, 8?
- 1:03:48The top eight, yeah. And we've gotten 3.
- 1:03:51You've gotten. You, you gained.
- 1:03:54I gave you one, so there's one. There's actually 8.
- 1:03:56You've gotten 2 of the 8 so far. So we're we're still we need 6.
- 1:04:00How did Yoshida do? Yeah, Yoshida's on the list #5
- 1:04:05well done 2023. That is the most recent.
- 1:04:07And Suzuki. There you go, You guys are
- 1:04:10killing it. The threshold is what, 10?
- 1:04:1210 or more, I mean, yeah, because the OK yeah, the top 11
- 1:04:17it it goes from Shohei at 22 home runs.
- 1:04:20Sure. And Yoshi and Ichiro at 8:00.
- 1:04:25So you're wait, you've got 4. You only need 124 more.
- 1:04:33Dude. You only need four more and they
- 1:04:35range from, yeah, they range from O5, which that's a really
- 1:04:40tough one. That's going to be, that's going
- 1:04:41to be a tough 105-0608 and 2012 just to give you your range now.
- 1:04:482012 Was it a giant? No, actually.
- 1:04:55I don't even think that now that I don't think I would have
- 1:04:57counted. She was a good guess.
- 1:05:08I don't even know if that would have been one of the first names
- 1:05:10it makes would have thrown out. Thanks dude.
- 1:05:13Yoshida hit fifteen home runs his first season over here.
- 1:05:16Guy loves hitting rollover grounders.
- 1:05:21Dude, I don't the Red Sox just hate that guy.
- 1:05:22I don't understand why he's not bad.
- 1:05:25They cannot stand Yoshida. So while you're thinking too, I
- 1:05:29will say, you know, we talked about, we talked about Okamoto,
- 1:05:32we talked about Murakami and now we just brought up Saya Suzuki,
- 1:05:37we talked about Shoda in this, in this episode.
- 1:05:39And we're talk like this is Toronto, this is Chicago.
- 1:05:42Like these are kind of hotbeds for, for like that's a good
- 1:05:47place for Japanese players to go because there's, you know,
- 1:05:49there's a good culture there. West Coast obviously is also the
- 1:05:54thing about the thing about Emai.
- 1:05:57I think I heard somewhere that there's like 3000 people,
- 1:06:00Japanese people in Houston like that.
- 1:06:03It is not popular. Really interesting that that was
- 1:06:07the pick because a lot of times. Soaking it up, by the way, in
- 1:06:09Houston. Have you seen that making his
- 1:06:11rounds? Even though intro.
- 1:06:12President named after a Japanese company too.
- 1:06:14So you would. Think.
- 1:06:16You know, maybe they're trying to to garner up some attention
- 1:06:19there, but. I like when they cue these,
- 1:06:22these Japanese players up with with the sound bites at the
- 1:06:26beginning of their pressers for the where he's like, what's up H
- 1:06:29town? I I mean, credit to him.
- 1:06:33He, he did like a whole little spiel there where I was like,
- 1:06:35man, that's that had to take some practice, but he, he
- 1:06:38crushed it. What were the years, Josh?
- 1:06:40Yeah. So the years are O six O 8 and
- 1:06:48where's the other one O 5? Sorry, I went out of order there
- 1:06:51in 2012. And The thing is, is like what I
- 1:06:53just said kind of rings true a little bit.
- 1:06:55You've got one West Coast teams, you've got two more Chicago
- 1:06:58guys, and then there's one guy that just kind of sitting in
- 1:07:02Milwaukee. I'll throw that out there.
- 1:07:04That was kind of rare as far as like where these players like to
- 1:07:08go. The rest of these guys are New
- 1:07:09York, LA, Chicago, obviously Ichiro in Seattle.
- 1:07:18Wait, Hessen was no you? The years didn't line up.
- 1:07:20He wasn't even, he was Korean anything.
- 1:07:22Yeah, yeah, he wasn't. Japan, that's that's going to be
- 1:07:25a trick too, as if you know what I mean, If you, you got to know
- 1:07:29where they got to be able to. Do are we just throwing names
- 1:07:32out there? Are we?
- 1:07:33Like, yeah, throwing names out there, let's.
- 1:07:34Get a movie. No, this is going to be tough,
- 1:07:36dude. How?
- 1:07:37How about like a Kazmatsui? Oh, Kazmatsu, let me.
- 1:07:43Sounds like he isn't. Where did my?
- 1:07:47Kasmusui, let me look around here.
- 1:07:49Yeah, it's. Basically he's not on that list,
- 1:07:51but I do want to look and see where he landed.
- 1:07:52So he was, he had 7. So he just was outside of this
- 1:07:5611 he's #13. I mean the threshold is 10.
- 1:08:00Yeah, it's right there. Back off, man.
- 1:08:03I can't think of any other guys. Well, I mean you could say the
- 1:08:05same for. OK, that one.
- 1:08:06Guy that had no homers, it was only 10 away it.
- 1:08:10Was three away. It's not.
- 1:08:13That bad? But where do we draw the line?
- 1:08:14Like where? What's like?
- 1:08:16Yeah, that's a way you don't remember old Kaz.
- 1:08:19Honestly, I hadn't. I can tell you this is actually
- 1:08:21interesting. This is actually interesting.
- 1:08:23I don't know that this one counts, but two home runs in his
- 1:08:27first season. Dave Roberts was born in Japan,
- 1:08:30so he shows up on this. List count it count.
- 1:08:32It but it's only two home runs. Dude, I'm not I'm not
- 1:08:40generating, I'm not great with the the pre.
- 1:08:45OK, so let's 2012 let's. Get it moving here.
- 1:08:48I'll say the the the number two guy with eighteen home runs in
- 1:08:52his first season played for Seattle and he was a catcher.
- 1:08:56Kurt Suzuki. Because.
- 1:08:58American. Yeah.
- 1:09:04Seattle catcher back off. Yeah.
- 1:09:07Seattle catcher from. Nationals legend Kurt Suzuki.
- 1:09:12Seattle catcher from 2618 home runs.
- 1:09:20Dude, hold on. I want to find this.
- 1:09:23I'm I'm on a mission. Are you looking through baseball
- 1:09:26cards? Yeah, well, I don't want to
- 1:09:27cheat, I don't want to Google it, but I feel like I'm going.
- 1:09:30To stumble across. Well, I feel like if I find it,
- 1:09:33I feel like that's that's earning it.
- 1:09:34I'm putting the work in. I don't think I could name a
- 1:09:37single Japanese catcher. All right, here we go, Mariners.
- 1:09:43All right, just. Going to stumble across the card
- 1:09:45it's going to nail it from from 2006.
- 1:09:49Jeremy. Reed He was 30 years old when he
- 1:09:52came over. Jesus, Jesus Montero, I'm just a
- 1:09:55Yankee legend. Yankee legend.
- 1:10:00Any idea on the 2012 Milwaukee Brewer who hit ten home runs and
- 1:10:07played middle infield I believe. Mike Zanino, no.
- 1:10:11A walkie Brewer. Did he play?
- 1:10:14Actually, I might have been an outfielder.
- 1:10:16He was an outfielder. Randy Win.
- 1:10:19Nice. I got that guy's card.
- 1:10:21Jeremy Reed, you already said to him.
- 1:10:24Bucky Jacobson. Lock it in, man.
- 1:10:28OK, so there's there's one guy 2008 he had ten home runs in in
- 1:10:362008. He was 31 years old.
- 1:10:38It was the Cubs, but it's a name that, you know, he never really
- 1:10:45hit a a ton of homers here. Charlie Moore.
- 1:10:49But it's a guy that I think, you know, three years with the Cubs.
- 1:10:53Should be getting. No, I mean, are we?
- 1:10:55On the Are we on the Brewers? No, the Brewers was an
- 1:10:59outfielder. I mean, these guys, I'm just
- 1:11:00kind of getting those low ones. You want me to start throwing
- 1:11:03them out there here? Because we're, we're, we're
- 1:11:06going. I give up.
- 1:11:08All right, the the Chicago Cub. Lyle over Bay.
- 1:11:12Yes. The Chicago cub who had ten home
- 1:11:16runs in 2008 was Kosuke Fukudome wouldn't.
- 1:11:19Have got him. OK.
- 1:11:21And the Brewer was Nori Aoki. Definitely would've gotten them.
- 1:11:26Probably wouldn't have gotten them.
- 1:11:27So we've got two more and I listen, I just the white sock on
- 1:11:31here also fifteen home runs 2005 probably not getting it.
- 1:11:35Tata Hido Iguchi. Nope.
- 1:11:38Yeah, no. And the last one for Seattle,
- 1:11:40the catcher I was talking about was I can.
- 1:11:42Barely say my own name. Kenji, Kenji Jojima.
- 1:11:46Nope, Kenji. Jojima.
- 1:11:48Yo, check out this card, a Shannon Stewart game, you or I
- 1:11:53don't know if it's game you use, but yeah, Shannon Stewart uni
- 1:11:56card in there. Could be game used.
- 1:11:58It would say on the back if it your.
- 1:12:01So much nicer than mine. It says authentic game worn
- 1:12:03jersey. There you go.
- 1:12:05Shannon Stewart. What a guy.
- 1:12:07What a guy. Anyway, I don't want to get
- 1:12:09done. That's got to be a four $5 card,
- 1:12:11man. I I could use a bullish bit, I
- 1:12:16could slip it anyway. So that's your list and let me
- 1:12:21just say too let let well, no, I mean not you got more than well,
- 1:12:25you got half of them. But just to say like this trivia
- 1:12:30is kind of meant to show you a little bit.
- 1:12:32These guys had some numbers. SO22 Shohei had the most in
- 1:12:37their first year here. Now he's different. 22 was his
- 1:12:40career high, but he was 23 years old.
- 1:12:42But a lot of these guys like Joe Jama's most was 36.
- 1:12:45Matsui's was 50. Fukudome, that was the year
- 1:12:49before Fukudome. His career high was 34.
- 1:12:53In Japan, you've got a lot of like Iguchi's was 30.
- 1:12:57He had 24 before coming over, say, a Suzuki at 38 before
- 1:13:01coming over. And Suzuki, what is it?
- 1:13:03What was this his fourth year over here?
- 1:13:05He just hit 32 runs. So like Okamoto Murakami, like
- 1:13:10it could take them a few years to to get back to what they are
- 1:13:15used to doing or putting up the same numbers.
- 1:13:17Not that you don't believe in these players, but that's why
- 1:13:20the Murakami thing is so interesting.
- 1:13:22But he does. Give him a couple of years to
- 1:13:25figure it out. But he won't.
- 1:13:27Yeah, but when that time comes, he won't be in Chicago, which,
- 1:13:30to Nate's point, he'll be elsewhere.
- 1:13:33Unless he unless he goes to the Cubs fair.
- 1:13:37Speaking of the Cubs, let's wrap it up that that's doing 15th
- 1:13:42Segway. That should do it.
- 1:13:44Thank you all for for hanging out with us.
- 1:13:47That's episode 588 in the books. Guys, that's the longest break
- 1:13:51we're going to take until this time next year, probably.
- 1:13:55Let's face it, we're locked in from here on.
- 1:14:03Out, out. Feed the rush.
- 1:14:06Speaking out. Let's get out of here 16.
- 1:14:15Hey, Josh, you need to work on that on that outro.
- 1:14:19Yeah, all tonight, today it's feed the rush for surge.
- 1:14:22Feed the rush. Just stick with that Subway.
- 1:14:26Eat fresh. Nope.
- 1:14:29Nope, not it. All right, I'll do it.
- 1:14:32We'll see you guys. We'll see you guys next week.
- 1:14:35We love you all and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:14:37baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
