- 0:03Melinda Lee: Hello dear listeners, welcome to This Week
- 0:05in flow podcast where we share unique experiences to help you
- 0:09unleash your leadership voice. Today we have an amazing leader
- 0:13Marish could loop she is at from a scientific background at Roush
- 0:19diagnostic. Hi, Merec. Hi, good to see you. Thanks for being
- 0:24here.
- 0:25Merec Ipek: Thank you so much good to be here, too.
- 0:27Melinda Lee: Like I mentioned, you have a scientific
- 0:29background, and I want to hear what you do and how you know,
- 0:33it's great because we can relate it to communication. As you
- 0:36know, science is difficult to translate into communication. So
- 0:40I'm, I'm happy to dive into your perspective around this.
- 0:44Merec Ipek: Yeah, that is so true, because I started my
- 0:47studies back in Boston, and I worked in lab right after that.
- 0:53But what hit me hard was like working with animals and tissue
- 0:58was making me feel less of a human at least I'm the chatty
- 1:01type. And that helped me to get into science in a more chatty
- 1:06environment. Because one of my good friends from college, she,
- 1:10she said, Hey, there's clinical research. And since then, it's
- 1:12been it's going to sound like I'm a really old lady, but
- 1:17still, I'm a great looking old lady. So I've been doing great
- 1:19for more than 20 years. I'm in clinical research, I just
- 1:23diverted from human studies to instruments. That's why I'm in
- 1:27Roche diagnostics, because I I witnessed a lot of things
- 1:32throughout my career and when you work with humans, when you
- 1:35do research, you have so much risk. So what I do basically now
- 1:39we are qualifying qualifying instruments, medical devices,
- 1:44for for human use, like could be a you know, like a glucose
- 1:48metre, which is very popular right now. Everybody's checking
- 1:51their glucose correct. And for future everything is becoming
- 1:54more hobbies a personalised perhaps you heard that before.
- 1:59So it's for the betterment of everyone, you can go to the lab
- 2:04or you can have your own lab at home. So I'm in that line of
- 2:07work, and it is true, I think scientific people like to read,
- 2:11and most of the personalities are introverted, which I didn't
- 2:15know before. I mean, I am a little bit introverted, but I'm
- 2:17most extroverted. So,
- 2:20Melinda Lee: communicate Yeah. How do you bridge that gap with
- 2:23communicating to more than introverts?
- 2:26Merec Ipek: So we usually do personality tests. And Roche is
- 2:29very big in that. So you know, your group got it, I ususally
- 2:31Melinda Lee: Or did you do the insights?
- 2:32work with blue people
- 2:36Merec Ipek: Rouche rolled it out. So I don't know the name.
- 2:41But we like colours.
- 2:42Melinda Lee: But yeah, that's insights. Yeah. Yeah, blue is
- 2:46more of the analytical structure, logical. And then
- 2:51yellow, I imagine you're more red, you definitely have a lot
- 2:54of red, which is direct, demanding. result oriented.
- 2:59Merec Ipek: Believe it or not, I'm yellow, then red, yellow,
- 3:01green. Yeah, green, because I love to entertain people.
- 3:06Melinda Lee: So yellow for the audience, yellow energy. So
- 3:09there's four distinct colour energies and different and they
- 3:14say they're all have different communication preferences. And
- 3:18it's not that you're one or the other. But it's where you lean
- 3:21more toward your communication preferences. And so it's helpful
- 3:24for you to know what yours is, and also helpful for your
- 3:27audience to know what your audience is. So in this case,
- 3:30you work with a lot of people that are more introverted, and
- 3:34analytical and you have the yellow Sunshine Yellow energy,
- 3:37which is entertaining, I like to have parties, social events
- 3:41communicate, and then they may not want to on the opposite
- 3:45side, and you also have the directing the commanding, and
- 3:48then green, which is the nurturing, which we'll talk
- 3:52about a little bit later, which is like your husband, which is
- 3:55more probably more of the green energy, more emotions, if so,
- 4:00share with us how you change and the different hats that you have
- 4:04to wear. So
- 4:05Merec Ipek: I made a lot of mistakes, but I'm such a curious
- 4:08person, which probably keeps me doing my job and stay alive. I
- 4:11love to learn. I have good friends and my husband has
- 4:15actually a blue first and a green later. Okay, so I do get
- 4:18along with blue because I love data myself, but I have a way of
- 4:23expressing myself as opposed to blue. Right? I told as I learned
- 4:27like I just do the brainstorming like you would see in a normal
- 4:31like I'm so creative, creatively this part of my life so like
- 4:35music, and theatre. So with them if I'm commanding to an
- 4:40audience, which is going to be mostly blue because it's not
- 4:42always like that. I literally just sit down and prepare for
- 4:45half an hour prepare my bullet points and I just don't make so
- 4:48many jokes because they really don't enjoy that. So it becomes
- 4:51very dry information. And at the end I'm like any questions and
- 4:54usually thank God if you did good job there no questions
- 4:57because they are very good in catching details, right? And I
- 5:02would say this a good group, if you want to roll something to a
- 5:05bigger audience, right, roll it to the blue audience first,
- 5:08because they will catch your deficiency. So,
- 5:11Melinda Lee: so true. Yeah, yeah, I,
- 5:13Merec Ipek: I learned by making many mistakes. So I always liked
- 5:18my field, but I struggled a lot to get the respect because blues
- 5:23are very easy to read you off. If they don't like what you
- 5:27said, because I work with a very strong blue manager recently.
- 5:30She and I get along, but she really didn't like some people.
- 5:34And I was listening to her. I'm like, boy, they're off. Like,
- 5:36they can really demand more. And if they don't get it, like,
- 5:40you're off the list, and that's very dangerous when you're a
- 5:42manager, because then that person is not going to follow
- 5:44you anymore, that they're not your team anymore.
- 5:46Melinda Lee: so, that happened before? Where? Yes,
- 5:48Merec Ipek: yes, it happened to me. And I had, let's say six
- 5:53people, and two of them, they don't agree with me, and it's
- 5:56okay. I am not looking for a fan club. I'm a pretty confident
- 6:00person. I'm not looking for people to follow me. But my
- 6:03manager was someone I always lean on. And I said, What can I
- 6:06do to get there buy it helped me because I was aware. I mean, I
- 6:10think a manager should be someone very confident about
- 6:12themselves. And I'm not here to preach everyone. I'm not a you
- 6:16know, Pastor. So I wanted to understand what was I missing as
- 6:20she coached me. So you know, you have to find your ways to work
- 6:24things out. And I think I have a keen eye for that I can read the
- 6:27audience very well, which probably, you know, when when I
- 6:30got my training with Lynn, that is also very important, right?
- 6:33Like, you have to read the people well, so I got the buying
- 6:38of those two, the one leader, but the one still didn't buy now
- 6:40she left the group. So it is true. If you don't like her
- 6:42manager, you live the group. But I mean, I didn't mind because I
- 6:45still have five people. And so that was an experience. I mean,
- 6:49I had a group where, you know, two of my people didn't
- 6:53completely agree with me, one of them start to agree with me
- 6:56later. And then the other one is,
- 6:59Melinda Lee: how did you do that? Just more conversations.
- 7:02Merec Ipek: I got to know her. Yeah. And because sometimes we
- 7:07have this facade, that we go to the meetings, I'm actually
- 7:10extremely deep person spiritually. And
- 7:12philosophically, I read a lot, but you don't show that at work.
- 7:16It's very superficial, I think. And I spent so much time with
- 7:20her. I invited her to lunch, I got to know her and people will
- 7:23always respond. Someone being compassionate that always pays
- 7:27off. And I asked her, What do you want? Like, I'm very
- 7:30responsive to that, because that's how I progress in my
- 7:32life. And I gave her everything she wanted, I got her promoted.
- 7:36Because she was good. I mean, not that I want some if, you
- 7:39know, thumbs up, but she was my best one. Like, she was really
- 7:43good. I mean, she was a blue. So blues are if you get them,
- 7:45they're good workers, but you have to really get their
- 7:48attention. So I got her promoted. And I mean, my
- 7:52manager, and I agreed that you know, she's our superstar. So
- 7:55that was easy. That was easy. But that was one of my intimate
- 7:59interactions with a blue. And later on, it came so easy,
- 8:03because this experience was my first leadership experience
- 8:06hands on. Because you shadow leaders, but when you do it,
- 8:10it's different. It's very hard. Yeah. So yeah, I, I learned that
- 8:15you will fail very, very badly. So I just said, Okay, so this is
- 8:21how it feels. Because I'm a very accomplished, kid. You know, I
- 8:23was always such a nerd, you know, pimples, braces, I had it
- 8:27all, you know, and I said, Wow, okay, so this is what it's like
- 8:31to do it on your own because I feel that school too. But this
- 8:36is different. Like when you fail with people, at least you feel
- 8:39like that. You really have to just let it go. Yeah, let it go.
- 8:44But coming back to communication style, you just change your
- 8:47style. Yeah, blues don't care. You talk too much. They just
- 8:51want to get the information right away. Right. Don't waste
- 8:54their time because they have so many things to
- 8:56Melinda Lee: do. Right details. Right? The right details. Yeah.
- 8:59Merec Ipek: And when people ask you that, so know your business?
- 9:02Well, like no, it's so well, because I liked the way they
- 9:05asked stuff about, let's say we do protocols, it's kind of a
- 9:08recipe. So they will ask stuff about the protocol. And I'm
- 9:12like, okay, you know what, I was very honest, in that group, I
- 9:15would say, Hey, I don't know I stopped doing that. You cannot
- 9:18be too honest with your team because they want to see someone
- 9:20who knows everything. I just say I'm gonna come back to you
- 9:22later. I don't really speak my heart because I you know, I told
- 9:26you I'm very upfront. I speak my heart. I'm a Mediterranean
- 9:29person, you know, everything I do is from my heart. So I said,
- 9:33Oh, okay, this is business maybe a little bit hard but a little
- 9:36bit brain you know, just combine both. So yeah, that was pretty
- 9:40much it very hard, but very rewarding experience. I'm still
- 9:44still benefiting from that experience tremendously.
- 9:48Melinda Lee: I love that the idea the concept of people
- 9:52teaching us things right they you know, we we get to
- 9:55opportunity to lean into what can what can we do to learn
- 9:59what's hear if somebody is annoying me or somebody is doing
- 10:04something like what can we do and taking the opportunity,
- 10:08because sometimes people might avoid it, they may avoid the
- 10:10conversation. But if you like you, you kept on going at it
- 10:14getting curious learning about the other person. And then now
- 10:18you know how to relate to them. So you didn't avoid it. But now
- 10:21that taught you something, a different skill set, because
- 10:24that's not generally your communication preference. But
- 10:26now you get it. And now you know how to speak to them more about
- 10:29it. So
- 10:31Merec Ipek: and I'm this kind of person, I have so many ideas. So
- 10:33I have so much desire to communicate across. So a good
- 10:37friend of mine back in college, she told me, Oh, my God, it was
- 10:40so hard to talk to you when you were younger, because you would
- 10:42stop me. So blues also teach you that you have to listen to them,
- 10:47because introverted people are not going to be like, hey, stop,
- 10:50I'm gonna say this. So you have to really give them the space as
- 10:53well. And listen them like you should see me and my mom
- 10:56talking, because we are both talking. I don't know how we
- 10:59understand each other. I just was on the phone with her. I
- 11:02haven't. Oh, funny. She and I are very similar. So it's like,
- 11:07I'm looking at my older version. And she's looking at our younger
- 11:10version. And we talk at the same time and we understand each
- 11:15other. Yeah,
- 11:16Melinda Lee: I love that. I love that. That's awesome. Like, what
- 11:21about the like the vibe, right? I can, I can almost imagine you
- 11:24and your mom talking. It's like just a fun and energetic vibe.
- 11:28You
- 11:29Merec Ipek: know, the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. That's
- 11:31how complicated. There's so much drama and so much joy. Yeah.
- 11:37Melinda Lee: That's the end. And then what about you and your
- 11:39husband? Can you share you mind sharing a little bit about that?
- 11:43Oh,
- 11:43Merec Ipek: yeah, sure. He's, so my husband is American. He's
- 11:46from San Francisco, just to give a brief background. And so being
- 11:52a Turkish and I lived in many countries, by the way, so it
- 11:55changes you I lived in Switzerland for a while it was
- 11:57like five years, it changed me a lot. Because you have to get
- 12:02away from your comfort zone and adapt to a new culture that was
- 12:05substantially different for me. And that country is very
- 12:08introverted. Like we say California, you know, San
- 12:12Francisco could be very introverted, in a sense, because
- 12:14we have engineers and you know, all these quarters and stuff.
- 12:16But Switzerland was a different level. Like at least the town I
- 12:20lived was on Northwest and I learned so much about, you know,
- 12:24patience and communication there. But coming to my husband,
- 12:27he's a little bit like Switzerland. So, Mike, that's
- 12:31the name. I hope he doesn't mind. You guys not gonna come
- 12:37and find me at home. But
- 12:38Melinda Lee: how long have you been married now?
- 12:39Merec Ipek: Oh, seven years. But we dated a long time because you
- 12:42know, he's a blue he wants to make sure he accumulated his
- 12:45data to make sure that I'm married double.
- 12:49Melinda Lee: So I'm asking that because it shows all the the
- 12:52dedication of you both being together. So talking about
- 12:55something difficult right now, the communication challenges,
- 12:58you've obviously shown that you work through a lot together? Oh,
- 13:02Merec Ipek: I think it's the hardest companionship is
- 13:04marriage, because we are we are different cultures as well. And
- 13:08he struggled a lot with the Turkish culture, because we are
- 13:11very dramatic. As opposed to him. When you check his
- 13:15heritage, he's he's, you know, Irish, Swedish. He's from the
- 13:19very cold part of the world where these people don't really
- 13:22talk with their eyes, you know, they don't even open their
- 13:24mouth. So he really learned to talk and defend himself when he
- 13:27was with me and with my family. So how I talk with him is, so he
- 13:32enjoys food. So you have to be strategic. If I have something I
- 13:36want from him, there's always food in that discussion. So I
- 13:38always offer him food, because I know he's gonna say yes, because
- 13:41I'm a good cook. But, you know, if there's nothing that I need
- 13:45to worry about, you know, you can just casually ask him, he'll
- 13:48say yes or no, because I go with the, you know, you always have
- 13:51to go everywhere with a plan in your mind. Yeah. So that's my
- 13:54plan. If it's very important, they're really good food, you
- 13:57have to cook and just make you feel comfortable. He's very
- 14:01relaxed. Get into the point, because you know, he's a blue,
- 14:04he doesn't want you to do well around so longer on the bushes,
- 14:08right? Hey, I want to, you know, do this. Let's go there. You
- 14:11know, let's travel this place. I'm just making it. So usually
- 14:15it goes well, but you know, I think he's a really good
- 14:17communicator. I like his style. I actually learned from him more
- 14:21than I am actually achieving things because shadowing him
- 14:25taught me how he prepares for, you know, he prepares at least
- 14:29three months if he wants something from me, he's a great
- 14:33prepare, and I was going to tell you that too at work. If
- 14:36something is very substantially important for me, I spent so
- 14:39much time preparing because we underestimate preparation.
- 14:42Preparation can actually make you wince so many discussions,
- 14:45especially heat at once. There you have to get something let's
- 14:49say promotion or something, you have to prepare very well. So
- 14:52he's the kind of who prepares for months, because he knows me
- 14:57so well. Usually I'm very tight. Write in kind of Money Matters.
- 15:01I'm very, very, like the things he likes I don't like and the
- 15:05things I like he doesn't like. So we always say no to each
- 15:08other. Let's say he's going to buy something for his car. I
- 15:10always say no. Because I'm like, why we need that? You know,
- 15:14like, why? And of course, I want something for the house and he's
- 15:18gonna say no to that. So we do our own preparations, but to be
- 15:23fair, preparation and like making the environment
- 15:27comfortable, I think are the key for our relationship to work.
- 15:30We, we know each other and we show the respect and the
- 15:33kindness I think that wins the relationship you always get a
- 15:35good answer for that. He's not spontaneous, though. I think
- 15:39that's what I'm trying to say. You cannot be spontaneous with
- 15:41this person. You have to be very, give some clues. Like
- 15:45you're, you give treats to a dog, you know, you just give
- 15:48little little treats. Yes, just drop the crumbs. Finally go what
- 15:53you want, like very slowly, strength steadily.
- 15:56Melinda Lee: Right, right. Oh, I did she very good strategy. I
- 16:00mean, because it's a part of Yeah, so it's not a such a
- 16:02shock, right. And then and then, like you said, you're preparing
- 16:06already, it's not like, you're just going to go drop a bomb on
- 16:08them. So you mentally prepare, you have all using you prepare
- 16:11her. And then you also set up the environment. All right, and
- 16:15so that the person feels comfortable, they feel relaxed,
- 16:18the more you feel relaxed, and and you've already dropped a
- 16:22little bit of breadcrumbs already. So it's not such a big
- 16:25deal, as most
- 16:27Merec Ipek: blue people don't like change. Their heart
- 16:31convince in that sense. So I learned that art way I'm I love
- 16:35change changes my life. When somebody look at my astrological
- 16:41chart, they were like, Ooh, you had a life. I'm like, Yeah,
- 16:44bring it on. Like, the more complicated things comes to my
- 16:47way. I'm like, yes, it's just I have it. Drive for like,
- 16:51unknown. Yeah, my curiosity. But for some people that stress
- 16:57Right, right. So of course, I stress myself a lot too. But for
- 17:01my husband, I can see that like, I couldn't move him from the
- 17:04house he lived Can you believe it? So many houses? I am 46.
- 17:08Right now, I lived in many places, I did so many things.
- 17:11Because that's what I live for yellow. Like, I can't wait to
- 17:16meet different people everywhere. Because for me,
- 17:18that's excitement. You know, I love that. But when you start to
- 17:21work with blue, and all the I mean, I enjoy the, you know,
- 17:25flavour, they bring the quality, but you have to appreciate that
- 17:28they just don't want anything that different. They respect
- 17:31that things go as planned, because their key word is, is am
- 17:34I prepared for this? And am I going to deliver very well
- 17:38quality, because they're very high quality people to which was
- 17:40very, you know, joyful for me to learn. I have huge respect, like
- 17:45tremely, a lot of respect, I have my key people actually,
- 17:48every function that I go in as ask, and they're mostly blue.
- 17:51And I'm like, I'm going to do this. What do you think like,
- 17:54these are the people I would go and really depend on as well,
- 17:57just to say, My husband is one of them. Like in certain things,
- 18:00I really depend on him. Right? Because he's very reliable. I
- 18:03think reliability brings the stability with them, they have
- 18:08Melinda Lee: And I think that's where you are able to even
- 18:08to have stability.
- 18:11though you have different communication preferences,
- 18:14whether it was through their husband or someone with your
- 18:16staff, I think when you go in there with the respect, like the
- 18:20high respect for even though the different perspective, you still
- 18:23respect it, I think that's what helps them you both to all see
- 18:29eye to eye and things like how do we find, you know,
- 18:32commonality even though we because you respect each other?
- 18:35And so eventually, some time or some way you will find an
- 18:39answer? Yeah, yeah. That's beautiful.
- 18:42Merec Ipek: I hope they feel it. Because now that we have zoom
- 18:45meetings everyday, it's so hard to share your mood.
- 18:47Melinda Lee: I thought it I thought that because you pause
- 18:49and you said, you know, they do all you know, they don't change.
- 18:53But I have high respect for their quality and no down. So
- 18:57they felt that I felt that so thank
- 18:59Merec Ipek: thank you, to you. It's
- 19:03Melinda Lee: it is hard, but that's what's your secret to
- 19:04successes. And that's how you're able to build these
- 19:07relationships and build a good team. It's all a team, a
- 19:10successful marriage, even with people that have different
- 19:13communication preferences. It's a teamwork,
- 19:15Merec Ipek: it's two. I always say that and I love Arnold
- 19:18Schwarzenegger and that like this funny Austrian guy, right?
- 19:21He always has huge respect for everything he achieved in his
- 19:25life. And of course, he worked so hard, right? But as an
- 19:27immigrant, I really take him as like my mentor. Funny enough. If
- 19:31you don't have that gratitude for every single thing you do,
- 19:34there were so many people helping you to get there. Same
- 19:38for work. I mean, even the bus driver has something for you to
- 19:41do to go to the work because he drove the bus. It's as little as
- 19:44that if we if we delivered that gratitude because sometimes I
- 19:48feel like some leaders just get very disconnected with your
- 19:50team, where you see the results because the team gets
- 19:53disconnected with the leader as well. I wanted to stay grounded
- 19:57I saw from my dad from many stories I read That was my cue
- 20:00word. I have a lot of gratitude. I always feel very blessed. And
- 20:04I love that English word blessed because in Turkish, we have so
- 20:07many words for this because I guess we've been through a lot.
- 20:10So we just throw so many words in the language because we're
- 20:12like, Well, you know, we're alive again. Thank God. So, you
- 20:17know, the language gets richer and richer, and we were very
- 20:20blessed people. So I am blessed is the exact feeling I have
- 20:25every day I wake up, I'm healthy. Same in my
- 20:27relationships. Same at work. I'm so blessed. I work at restaurant
- 20:30Roche diagnostics, I say to everybody, and I'm blessed. I
- 20:33work with very qualified very smart people, too. And sometimes
- 20:36you need to remind this to the people you work because they're
- 20:38just so qualified, they forget that. You're like, You guys are
- 20:42the best of the best. Like, you know, there's nothing better
- 20:45than you guys like you are really the best in the market.
- 20:47So sometimes it's really like I said, teamwork. It's, yeah, it's
- 20:51teamwork.
- 20:52Melinda Lee: Yeah. Well, would you give? What tips final tips
- 20:55would you give to the leaders out there who are working with
- 20:58different? Yeah, different communication preferences? So if
- 21:02you're the team leader, what would you give them? What team
- 21:05would advice you have
- 21:08Merec Ipek: to spend personal time with your team, I was very
- 21:11surprised because I had a really good Swiss manager back in
- 21:14Switzerland before I moved here. I have huge respect for him,
- 21:17because he, he gave me a hand. And I have few leaders that I
- 21:22really think they gave me so much that I can never forget
- 21:26about them. He's one of them. And he spent so much time with
- 21:29me because I was the first Turkish person he was managing,
- 21:32but he got to know me and my culture. And he gave me this
- 21:36tip, I'm just sharing is like a, you know, friendly think,
- 21:39because I'm that kind of a person. So everybody knows, he's
- 21:42like, when you're sailing, you said, and this is your life. Try
- 21:47to get in line with the vent. Don't change the wind, because I
- 21:52am such a forceful. And so in love with everything in my life,
- 21:56I want to change everything around me to make it work for
- 21:58me, because I was so young by them, you know, you think
- 22:01everything's working for you. But for the leaders that I see
- 22:04right now, especially with the new generation, and I love them,
- 22:06they're kicking so much as I love I love the new generation,
- 22:10there's so much, you know, you know, bed repetition for them,
- 22:14but boy, I love them. So get to know your people, especially in
- 22:17this period of time where everything is from a camera.
- 22:20People talk too much, but they don't ask very specific
- 22:24questions to their team, like, what do you like to eat? Right?
- 22:27What is joy for you? Is family important for you like very
- 22:30personal stuff? Because people will follow you, when you make
- 22:35them seen? See them? They don't see their people? Because I
- 22:38mean, I get it leaders are busy about their, you know, you know,
- 22:41their milestones, but they're going to achieve, right asked me
- 22:44when you see people because most people have so much trauma. And
- 22:48you know, we did some work on this when I was doing the
- 22:52communication thing, which I was very excited. And I learned so
- 22:54much about my life. We all have I'm not good enough. We all do.
- 22:58I would be very surprised if somebody said no, I don't have
- 23:01it. No, we all do it. Right? If you make someone visible with
- 23:06something, they know they're good enough, right? You got them
- 23:09like see, or people just just show them the care, maybe they
- 23:13don't have that courage to show to themselves because everybody
- 23:17has some talent. Yeah. And your job as a leader, you got to make
- 23:22sure you see those people. You're getting paid for that.
- 23:25Sorry to save. So I think that will be my first thing because I
- 23:29had many leaders so far here, I think the stress has so much in
- 23:32us. And there's so many responsibility for one human,
- 23:36then you would say, well, they should have I or two people. But
- 23:39you know, we have just one person doing that. So that time
- 23:42is skipped. But that is actually a very critical time. Because if
- 23:46you buy your people, if you buy their hearts, in a gentle way,
- 23:50if you if you flourish their hearts, you don't buy hearts, I
- 23:53mean, that's very harsh. You flourish their hearts, you see
- 23:55them, you have a team that's gonna say, hey, I want to do
- 23:59that for you. That's my number one. Number two, maybe you know,
- 24:03don't be unrealistic about the things you ask for people,
- 24:06because sometimes leaders are usually read, right? And I had a
- 24:10read leader and I said, Oh my God, I feel like I'm running a
- 24:12marathon everyday, they expect so much from you, you have to
- 24:15know the personalities to like, I'm not going to expect weird
- 24:20things from a person who's very slow, you know, I'm going to
- 24:23expect quality from that person. Right? So you got to know your
- 24:26people. So I usually like to do this, you know, personality test
- 24:30is I joined a new group, I would say very rare. If it's possible.
- 24:34I mean, not every time it's possible, but because you cannot
- 24:37immediately start spending time with them. Because let's say you
- 24:39have 15 people, I mean, you're busy. So you can maybe do lunch
- 24:42and stuff, but it will take some time. So sometimes time has to
- 24:45be by yourself. So try to roll up personality tests, try to get
- 24:48their feeling and spend time with them. And the job is easy.
- 24:53I mean, these people are there to do the job obviously for a
- 24:56reason they are qualified but to give the exam Mission to give
- 25:01the power to the people. They need to believe in you. So be
- 25:04that believable person, don't put that facade and say, Oh,
- 25:07we're doing great. I mean, nobody believes you. And I have
- 25:12so many leaders like that. I said, Oh my God, why do I hate
- 25:14this guy? Oh my god, I just don't believe in him.
- 25:18Melinda Lee: Right, right. Because then you don't know
- 25:20what's real. What isn't? Oh, my goodness, that those are so
- 25:24great. Those are great, fabulous tips. I think they're so true.
- 25:27And I think that it especially like you said, we're all we have
- 25:30so much going on. But really, they slow it down really get to
- 25:34know their people help their people be seen be heard. Like
- 25:39bring out their strengths and really get to know them. Like
- 25:41you said, it's I think that that then they're not climbing the
- 25:45mountain top on them by themselves. You have a team, you
- 25:47have people with you doing it with you together, and it's so
- 25:51much more fulfilling. Yeah, it does require extra communication
- 25:54skills. So listen, which includes listening. Right? And
- 25:58presence. Yeah. So thank you marriage. That was so good. I
- 26:04really appreciate that. And I really appreciate your time. And
- 26:07thank you for saying yes to being on the podcast. It's
- 26:10really fun. Your energy and I'm I'm trusting that the audience
- 26:16also really took a lot out of today. So thank you. Thank you.
- 26:19Thank you. Blessings to you more blessings. Yeah. Bye.
- 26:25Merec Ipek: Bye bye.
