- 0:00Take your Bible and turn with me, if you would, to the Gospel
- 0:03of John. And as you're turning there, as
- 0:07we begin to embark on the first few verses of John's gospel, I
- 0:13want you to turn with me to John chapter 12, John chapter 12.
- 0:22When you come to the 12th chapter of John, you are at the
- 0:26very end of Christ's public ministry.
- 0:30When you come to chapter 13, He enters his private ministry with
- 0:33His men. But in John chapter 12 you have
- 0:37the triumphal entry where everyone is praising His name
- 0:42and taking off their garments and putting them down on the
- 0:46ground, saying to Him, Hosanna, glory to God.
- 0:51In the highest, there is a whole bunch of people following the
- 0:56Christ. After all, it's Passover and
- 0:59everyone's moving in that direction anyway.
- 1:03Except for the fact that Jesus had just raised Lazarus from the
- 1:06dead. So that would include all kinds
- 1:09of curious people to understand who this Jesus is.
- 1:15And so they would be among the thousands, maybe even millions,
- 1:20following Christ into Jerusalem. And as He goes into Jerusalem,
- 1:25of course there are those in the city who are coming out to greet
- 1:29Him during that entry time into Jerusalem, which would cause the
- 1:35Pharisees to say these words in verse #19 of John 12.
- 1:40So the Pharisees said to one another, you see that you are
- 1:43not doing any good. Look, the whole world has gone
- 1:47after Him. That they began to accuse one
- 1:51another of not doing their job. Look what's happened.
- 1:55The whole world has gone after him now.
- 1:58Now, Please note that doesn't mean everybody in the world,
- 2:04because nobody in Egypt was going after him, nobody in Rome
- 2:08was going after him, nobody in Syria was going after him,
- 2:10nobody in Syria was going after him, nobody in Macedonia or Ki
- 2:15were going after him. The Pharisees are speaking in
- 2:19terms of generalities. All kinds of men from the world,
- 2:23all kinds of people from the world have gone after him.
- 2:28It doesn't mean that every person in the world was going
- 2:31after Jesus. That's like saying when John the
- 2:34Baptist was baptized in the Jordan, when it says that all of
- 2:38Jerusalem came down to be baptized by John and the Jordan,
- 2:42that doesn't mean that every single person in the city of
- 2:45Jerusalem was coming down to be baptized by John in the Jordan.
- 2:50It's a statement that talks about distinction.
- 2:54And so the Pharisees are are speaking in in, in hyperbole.
- 3:00Look at all these people following him.
- 3:04John knows that and uses a particular illustration to speak
- 3:09of some of the Greeks, some of the Gentiles, those who had
- 3:14converted to Judaism and therefore they were following
- 3:17the Christ. John uses this illustration.
- 3:21He's the only one who does it, says the verse 20.
- 3:24Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to
- 3:28worship at the feast. These then came to Philip, who
- 3:33was from Beseda of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, Sir,
- 3:39we wish to see Jesus. Now stop right there, Sir.
- 3:48We, we wish to see Jesus. Now, there is no record of the
- 3:53fact that they ever saw Jesus. There's no record that they ever
- 3:57spoke to Jesus. But John is helping you to
- 4:01understand the desire of people to see the true Jesus Christ.
- 4:11These people had a passion. They had to drive to come face
- 4:17to face with the living God and you got to stop right there and
- 4:22you got to ask yourself the question is, is is that is that
- 4:25us did did you come this morning to to see Jesus?
- 4:33Most people go to church to see other people.
- 4:37Some people go to church to be seen by other people, but do you
- 4:43come to church to truly see the true and living God?
- 4:51Do you come to see the Christ and all of his glory?
- 4:55John's whole gospel is about that.
- 5:00Somehow you might believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the
- 5:05Christ, the Son of God. That's the whole purpose of his
- 5:10writing. The whole doctrine of
- 5:13Christology is wrapped up in John's gospel.
- 5:17It's a study of the Christ. Who is he and these Greeks had
- 5:23come from, who knows where, to just get a glimpse of Jesus, to
- 5:29somehow get a conversation with Jesus, to somehow be introduced
- 5:34to Jesus, which always makes us wonder why we are here.
- 5:42Thus the title for today's sermon.
- 5:47May I present to you Jesus, John 1, verses 1 to 5.
- 5:55Because when you come, I want you to see only Jesus.
- 5:59That's all that matters. That's the only motive for going
- 6:06to church. Every other motive is a wrong
- 6:10motive. The right motive is I want to
- 6:14see Jesus, I want to hear about the Lord.
- 6:18I want to come to know about the Lord.
- 6:22So at the outset, I must warn you that there are many
- 6:30churches, not just in America but all around the world, that
- 6:35introduce to people the wrong Jesus.
- 6:44Just because you go to a church doesn't mean they're going to
- 6:48introduce you to the right Jesus.
- 6:53That is very important for us to understand.
- 6:58I'm afraid that people don't really take into consideration
- 7:02where they go to church, but you should because if you go to the
- 7:08wrong church, you're going to be introduced to the wrong Jesus.
- 7:11And if you get Jesus wrong, you'll get your destiny wrong.
- 7:17You must know the right Jesus. That's why John says we write
- 7:23these things, that you may know that Jesus is the Messiah.
- 7:28Can you go to heaven and not believe that Jesus is the
- 7:32Messiah? Answer no, because you got it
- 7:37wrong. Jesus.
- 7:40He is the Messiah that was prophesied in the Old Testament.
- 7:47Can you go to heaven and not believe that Jesus is the Son of
- 7:50God? No, you can't.
- 7:52You must believe in the true identity of the Jesus that John
- 7:57explains to us in his gospel. This is absolutely crucial, so
- 8:05much so that Jesus would say these words in Matthew's Gospel
- 8:10in his very first sermon, Matthew 7 verse #15 Beware of
- 8:16the false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but
- 8:21inwardly are ravenous wolves. At the very beginning of the
- 8:28ministry of Christ, and he preaches his sermon, the Sermon
- 8:30on the Mount, he gives a warning about false prophets.
- 8:38It was so clear that the apostle Paul would say these words in
- 8:44Acts chapter 20, verse 28. Be on guard for yourselves and
- 8:51for all the flock among which the Holy Spirit has made you
- 8:54overseers to shepherd the Church of God, which he purchased with
- 8:59his own blood. I know that after my departure
- 9:04savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock, and
- 9:10from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse
- 9:16things to draw away the disciples after them.
- 9:22Therefore, be on the alert, remembering that night and day
- 9:29for a period of three years. I did not cease to admonish each
- 9:34one of you with tears. Paul knew that there will be
- 9:41many who will rise up from within the church after his
- 9:45departure that would draw people away from the true gospel.
- 9:53So Peter would say these words, and his second epistle, Second
- 9:59Peter, chapter 2, verse #1. But false prophets also arose
- 10:04among the people, just as there will also be false teachers
- 10:08among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies,
- 10:14even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift
- 10:19destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their
- 10:22sensuality and because of them the way of the truth will be
- 10:27maligned. And in their greed they would
- 10:30exploit you with false words. Their judgment from long ago is
- 10:35not idle and their destruction is not asleep.
- 10:41So Peter, even with more fervency, would talk about
- 10:45people who would deny the true Master, the King of Kings.
- 10:51So Jude would say these words in verse three of his epistle.
- 10:58Beloved, while I was making every effort to write to you
- 11:01about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to
- 11:04you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which
- 11:09was once for all handed down to the Saints.
- 11:13For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were
- 11:19long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly
- 11:24persons who turned the grace of our God into licentiousness and
- 11:29deny our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ.
- 11:35So Christ warns about false prophets and false teachers.
- 11:41Paul recognizes that after his departure they're going to come
- 11:44from within, and they did in the Church of Ephesus.
- 11:49And Peter would warn about these false teachers.
- 11:52Jude would say, the warning's over, they're here, they've
- 11:58already risen among you, and they deny truly the only Master,
- 12:06our Lord Jesus. John, who wrote 3 epistles after
- 12:15the Gospel, these epistles written some 50 years after the
- 12:23resurrection of our Lord, said these words.
- 12:28John second, excuse me, second John verse #7 For many deceivers
- 12:36have gone out into the world. Those who do not acknowledge
- 12:40Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, this is the deceiver and
- 12:47the Antichrist. Watch yourselves that you do not
- 12:51lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full
- 12:55reward. Anyone who goes too far and does
- 12:59not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God and the
- 13:05one who abides in the teaching. He has both the Father and the
- 13:10Son. If anyone comes to you and does
- 13:14not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house and
- 13:20do not give him a greeting, for the one who gives him a greeting
- 13:24participates in his evil deeds. See, John knows that there are
- 13:30people who are deceivers, they're called antichrists.
- 13:36They are those who are against the Christ.
- 13:41He would say in His first epistle in First John, chapter
- 13:472, verse #18 Children, it is the last hour, and just as you heard
- 13:54that Antichrist is coming, even now many Antichrist have
- 13:59appeared. From this we know that it is the
- 14:03last hour. They went out from us, but they
- 14:07were not really of us, for if they had been of us, they would
- 14:12have remained with us, but they went out so that it would be
- 14:15shown that they all are not of us.
- 14:20But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.
- 14:25I have not written to you because you do not know the
- 14:27truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the
- 14:32truth. Who is the liar but the one who
- 14:35denies that Jesus is the Messiah, the Christ?
- 14:44This is the Antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the
- 14:49Son. Whoever denies the Son does not
- 14:54have the Father. The one who confesses the Son
- 14:59has the Father also. Again, the warning, because the
- 15:08New Testament is replete with the same warning.
- 15:14Satan is a master of disguise. In fact, Paul tells us in Second
- 15:21Corinthians Chapter 11, he says these words in verse 14.
- 15:26No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an Angel of
- 15:30light. Therefore, it is not surprising
- 15:33if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of
- 15:37righteousness. Who's in will be according to
- 15:42their deeds. And then he says earlier in 2nd
- 15:46Corinthians 4, verse 3, even if our gospel is veiled, that is
- 15:51veiled to those who are perishing.
- 15:54In this case, the God of this world, who is Satan, has blinded
- 15:58the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the
- 16:01light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of
- 16:07God. Satan's whole purpose is to
- 16:12blind the minds of people so they do not recognize that Jesus
- 16:18is God. He denies the deity of Christ,
- 16:25and every false gospel denies the deity of Christ.
- 16:32That's why the question who is Jesus is the most important
- 16:39question you need to have. You need to get that part right.
- 16:45If you missed that one, you've missed the whole thing because
- 16:49the gospel is the center of the good news about the Christ.
- 16:53So you must get Jesus right. John would say this in first
- 16:59John 4. Beloved, do not believe every
- 17:03spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God,
- 17:08because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
- 17:12Now think about this. This is 50 years after the
- 17:16resurrection of the Christ. We're 2000 years down the road
- 17:21from that. And John is saying there are
- 17:24many Antichrist, there are many false teachers in his day.
- 17:31Think about how many there are in this day.
- 17:35So many of them. So he says, test the spirits,
- 17:40test the message and the messenger, examine them closely.
- 17:45Listen with a critical ear, look at them with a critical eye.
- 17:51Make sure that you examine the genuineness of their message,
- 17:55the genuineness of the man in which they present.
- 18:00For is it the true Jesus? Because if it's a different
- 18:06Jesus, it's a different gospel. If it's a different gospel, it's
- 18:10satanic and it's damning. So you need to get Jesus right.
- 18:17So he says this. By this, you know, the Spirit of
- 18:20God, every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in
- 18:25the flesh is from God. And every spirit that does not
- 18:30confess that Jesus is not from God.
- 18:33This is the spirit of the Antichrist, of which you have
- 18:37heard that is coming, and now it is already in the world.
- 18:45It's already here, it's everywhere.
- 18:51And you know what the unfortunate thing is, is that
- 18:54there are countless people, millions of them all around the
- 19:00world going to churches that deny the true identity of Jesus.
- 19:12Let me give you a few examples. There is this movement in
- 19:21Pentecostalism called the Oneness Pentecostals.
- 19:28There are 25,000,000 that claim to be a part of that
- 19:34denomination. 25,000,000 that are a part of the Oneness
- 19:40Pentecostal movement. One of the greatest proponents
- 19:45is a man who just retired from his ministry.
- 19:49His name is TD Jakes, I'm sure you've heard of him.
- 19:55The Oneness Pentecostal movement believes in what was old called
- 20:02the Sabelianism. Modern day term is Modalism.
- 20:09It denies the triune nature of the living God.
- 20:14It denies that God is 3 and one. It denies that God is self,
- 20:20existent self or the the God is Co eternal coexistent right as
- 20:27one supreme God. Modalism says that God is 1, but
- 20:35he takes on various forms at different times.
- 20:39So if he wants to be the Father, he can be the Father.
- 20:41If he wants to be the Son, he can be the Son.
- 20:44If he wants to be the Spirit, he can be the Spirit.
- 20:46But it denies the true nature of the living God.
- 20:52And so if you're a part of the Oneness Pentecostal movement,
- 20:55you are hearing the gospel about the wrong Jesus.
- 20:59You got 25 million people on their way to hell and they don't
- 21:04even know it because they got Jesus wrong.
- 21:11It's so important to hear this, to know this.
- 21:16The Word of Faith movement, 90% of everyone in the charismatic
- 21:25Pentecostal denomination, 90% of them are of the word faith
- 21:33movement. The word faith movement is all
- 21:37about signs and, and wonders and miracles and, and healings and,
- 21:43and all of those extracurricular things.
- 21:47They're really into all that. And their leaders, the most
- 21:53prominent leaders, deny the deity of Christ.
- 22:00People like Creflo Dollar and people like Benny Hinn, people
- 22:05like Kenneth Copeland, all those men deny the deity of Christ.
- 22:18So you have 90% of the people in this movement who hear about a
- 22:23different Jesus. That is very, very alarming.
- 22:30In fact, listen to what Creflo Dollar says.
- 22:36MacArthur in his book Strange Fire quotes these men.
- 22:40This is where I got the quotes from.
- 22:43Creflo Dollar says that if Jesus came as God, so he's already
- 22:47denying that Jesus is God. If Jesus came as God, then why
- 22:53did God have to anoint him? Jesus came as a man, that's why
- 22:58it was legal to anoint him. God doesn't need anointing, he
- 23:03is anointing. Jesus came as man at age 30 and
- 23:09God is now getting ready to demonstrate to us and give us an
- 23:13example of what a man with the anointing can do.
- 23:19So he denies the deity of Jesus that Jesus in all reality is God
- 23:25in the flesh. It was Kenneth Copeland who said
- 23:31why didn't Jesus openly proclaim himself as God during his 33
- 23:36years on earth? For one single reason.
- 23:39He hadn't come to earth as God, He came as man again, denying
- 23:47the deed of Christ, which by the way, he's wrong because we will
- 23:50see in John's gospel that Jesus Christ claims to be God.
- 23:54Over and over and over again have been a hen who says that
- 24:01Jesus, who was righteous by choice, said the only way I can
- 24:05stop sin is by me becoming sin. I can't just stop it by letting
- 24:14it touch me. I and it must become one.
- 24:18Hear this? He says.
- 24:19He who is the nature of God became the nature of Satan. 90%
- 24:31This is not my statistic. This is their very own
- 24:36statistic. 90% of those in the Charismatic Pentecostal arena
- 24:45are of the word faith movement, and this is what they're being
- 24:50taught, that Jesus came as a man, but Jesus wasn't God in the
- 24:56flesh. You have Kenneth Copeland who
- 25:00says these words. The righteousness of God was
- 25:04made to be sin. He accepted the sin nature of
- 25:08Satan in his own spirit. What blasphemous is that?
- 25:15He says, And at the moment that he did so, he cried, My God, my
- 25:18God, why has thou forsaken me? You don't know what happened at
- 25:22the cross. Why do you think Moses, upon
- 25:25instruction of God, raised the serpent upon the pole instead of
- 25:30a lamb that used to bug me? I said, why in the world would
- 25:35you want to put a snake up there?
- 25:38The son of Satan? Why didn't you put a lamb on
- 25:40that pole? And the Lord said to me, because
- 25:44it was a sign of Satan that was hanging on the cross, He said, I
- 25:51accepted it in my own spirit, spiritual death, and the light
- 25:55was turned off. How sad is that?
- 26:03Denying the deed of Christ by claiming that He adopted the
- 26:08nature of Satan. If you have family or friends in
- 26:14that denomination, you need to grab them as quick as possible.
- 26:20Drag them away from that kind of church because they're hearing
- 26:26about the wrong Jesus. Christology is important.
- 26:33It's crucial to understanding salvation.
- 26:38One man who's called America's pastor, who boasts 40,000 strong
- 26:43every Sunday, denies the supremacy and exclusivity of
- 26:49Christ, and most people don't even know it.
- 26:53His name is Joel Osteen. When asked if he thought people
- 26:59who refuse to accept Jesus Christ are wrong, this is how he
- 27:03responded. Well, I don't know if I believe
- 27:07they're wrong. I believe here's what the Bible
- 27:11teaches and from the Christian faith, this is what I believe.
- 27:15But I I just think that only God would judge a person's heart.
- 27:23He doesn't know he's a pastor. He boasts 40,000 strong.
- 27:31So what does he do? He pontificates his ignorance
- 27:35every Sunday, so 40,000 people become ignorant of the gospel of
- 27:40who Jesus is. He says this.
- 27:46I just think that only God would judge a person's heart.
- 27:48I, I spent a lot of time in India with my father.
- 27:51I, I don't know all about their religion, but I know they love
- 27:54God and I don't know, I've seen their sincerity, so I don't
- 28:01know. I mean, he doesn't know
- 28:02anything. I mean, come on people, he says.
- 28:06I know for me and what the Bible teaches, I want to have a
- 28:10relationship with Jesus. Well, you can't have a
- 28:15relationship with Jesus if you don't know who he is, right?
- 28:20Another occasion he was asked, are Mormons true Christians?
- 28:29How would you answer that? Listen to what he says.
- 28:33Well, in my mind they are. Who cares what's going on in
- 28:39your mind? In my mind they are.
- 28:43Mitt Romney has said that he believes in Christ as his savior
- 28:48and that's what I believe. So, you know, I, I'm not the one
- 28:51to judge the little details of it.
- 28:53So I believe they are. So here's this pastor of 40,000
- 29:00Strong on Sunday morning telling everybody that Mormons are
- 29:05Christians, that the Jesus that Mormons believe is the same
- 29:11Jesus that Christians believe, and he's not.
- 29:18That's why there are many antichrists that have gone out
- 29:21into the world. John would speak of it, Jude
- 29:25would speak of it, Peter, Paul, Christ warned about it.
- 29:30They're everywhere. So I don't know where your
- 29:34friends go to church, I don't know where your family goes to
- 29:38church. But if it was me, I would grab
- 29:43them and snatch them out of the fire because if they believe in
- 29:49that kind of Jesus, they're not going to heaven, they're going
- 29:54to hell. Will you ever tell them that?
- 30:00Will you ever be as so bold as to say you're not believing in
- 30:05the right Jesus of the Bible? Who will tell them if you don't
- 30:10tell them? We are responsible as parents to
- 30:16warn our children, not just when they're young, but no matter how
- 30:21old they are. We are responsible as Christians
- 30:26to warn people of impending judgement if they don't believe
- 30:30in the true Jesus. This is so incredibly important.
- 30:42So when Christ said, who do men say that I am?
- 30:49Most people got it right. Most people got it wrong.
- 30:51Excuse me? Well, some say you're Jeremiah
- 30:54and some say you're Elijah, and some say you're one of the
- 30:57prophets. Everybody's saying that you're
- 31:00great, but nobody's saying that you're God.
- 31:05That's all that matters. So Christ says, well, who do you
- 31:09say that I am? And Peter says thou art the
- 31:11Christ, you're the Messiah. You're the long-awaited Messiah,
- 31:16the Son of the living God. And Jesus said flesh and blood
- 31:25did not reveal this to you. In other words, no man can ever
- 31:30convince you that Jesus is God. Christ says, My Father in heaven
- 31:39has revealed this to you. You see, it's a divine
- 31:44enablement. It's divine sight.
- 31:48Only God can do that. God the Father opens blind eyes
- 31:55so people will see the glorious light of the gospel.
- 32:01So as we go to John chapter one, oh by the way, you can turn to
- 32:04verse one if you want to. We need to at least begin that.
- 32:08This morning. You turn to John 1.
- 32:10I want to present to you Jesus. I want to present to you the
- 32:15true Jesus as John proclaims him and declares him to be.
- 32:22We must understand this because it's absolutely crucial to your
- 32:29eternal destiny. So John one verse one says in
- 32:38the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the
- 32:44Word was God. He was in the beginning with
- 32:48God. All things came into being
- 32:51through Him and apart from him nothing came into being that has
- 32:58come into being. In Him was life, and the life
- 33:03was the light of men. The light shines in the
- 33:06darkness. In the darkness did not
- 33:10overpower it. This week, next week, and
- 33:19probably the week after, I want you to see 5 aspects of the
- 33:25Christ. I want you to first of all see
- 33:28his eternality, and then I want you to be able to see see His
- 33:39deity. Then I want you to see His
- 33:42personality, and then what you see is activity or His
- 33:48creativity, and then you need to see His invincibility.
- 33:55Those five things will scream out at you as you begin to break
- 34:00down verses 1:00 to 5:00, but it all begins with His eternality.
- 34:09The Christ existed before the world began in the beginning it
- 34:18says in the beginning was the Word.
- 34:26This is his eternality. In the beginning was the Word,
- 34:32and the tense of the Word was explains to us that he didn't
- 34:37come into being at the beginning, but existed before
- 34:43the beginning ever came about. In the beginning the word
- 34:51already existed. It was already there.
- 34:55We know from verse 14 that that word became flesh and dwelt
- 34:59among us. And we'll talk to you more about
- 35:01the word as time goes on to help you understand why John uses
- 35:07Lagos as an explanation of who Christ is.
- 35:12But you need to understand His eternality.
- 35:17Everything about the Christ existed before time began.
- 35:23He has no beginning. He is the eternal God.
- 35:29So let me show you very familiar to all of us as Isaiah 9 verse
- 35:34#6 For unto us we understand a child will be born, and unto us
- 35:43a son is given. Note, the son is not born.
- 35:47The son is given, the child is born Speaking of his humanity
- 35:52and his deity, and his name will be called wonderful.
- 36:00Someone will say, well, he's called wonderful counselor.
- 36:02No, he's called wonderful. It doesn't mean that he's not a
- 36:08wonderful counselor, because he is, but his name is wonderful.
- 36:13How do we know that Book of Judges 13th chapter, Manoah, the
- 36:17father of Samson, when he encountered the Angel of the
- 36:21Lord, the pre Incarnate Christ, he says, tell me, what is your
- 36:25name? And the Angel of the Lord says,
- 36:27why do you ask my name knowing it is wonderful?
- 36:35So when Isaiah says his name will be called wonderful, he's
- 36:40echoing what the Angel of the Lord said to Manoah way back in
- 36:45the book of Judges. That's his name.
- 36:47He is wonderful, He is counselor, He is mighty God.
- 36:55And then it says he is everlasting Father.
- 37:02What does that mean? I thought you said the Son
- 37:05wasn't the Father and the Father's not the Son.
- 37:07That's correct. So how can it be the eternal
- 37:11Father? How can it be the everlasting
- 37:13Father? Well, you must understand Father
- 37:17in the Jewish sense. So it means that he is the
- 37:23everlasting author, the eternal originator.
- 37:30That's what Father means in the Jewish context.
- 37:34So He's not the Father, but He is the everlasting author, the
- 37:41eternal originator of everything from eternity.
- 37:46Speaking of the fact that the Son given is the child who was
- 37:51born, but He existed in eternity past.
- 37:57Micah 5 says the same thing. Micah 5 verse #2 the great
- 38:03prophecy about the arrival of the Messiah quoted in Matthew
- 38:07chapter 2. When the Magi came right into
- 38:11Jerusalem asking where is he was born king of the Jews and Herod
- 38:17asked the scribes, they quote magnify verse #2 it says, But As
- 38:21for you, Bethlehem, Ephrathah too little to be among the clans
- 38:25of Judah. From you one will go forth from
- 38:29me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long
- 38:34ago, from the days of eternity, Speaking of the fact that the
- 38:41one born in Bethlehem is from the days of eternity, speaking
- 38:47to the eternality of the Son. This is so crucial to understand
- 38:54that Christ existed before time ever began, because He is the
- 39:01eternal God. So John begins by explaining to
- 39:04you the eternality of the Word, the eternality of the Son, that
- 39:09He's always existed. He never came into being.
- 39:14So important. Turn to Hebrews chapter 1.
- 39:21Hebrews chapter 1. It says this in verse 5, For to
- 39:28which of the angels did he ever say, You are my son today I have
- 39:31begotten you, and again I will be a father to him, and he will
- 39:35be a son to me. And when he again brings the
- 39:39first born into the world, he says, and let all the angels of
- 39:44God worship him. Now stop right there.
- 39:47This is very important because the Colts will tell you that
- 39:52Jesus is the first born, trying to prove to you that Jesus was a
- 39:59created being. That's not true because the word
- 40:06for first born is the word prototicos.
- 40:12It is used nine times in the New Testament.
- 40:18Prototicos is the word that speaks not of origin.
- 40:24But one who is preeminent, one who has the right to the
- 40:30inheritance, he is the one who is the ruler.
- 40:36So it's it's, it's a word that speaks to the fact that there is
- 40:40one who rules, there is one who is preeminent.
- 40:43That's what protota cost means. Same thing said in Colossians
- 40:47chapter 1 verses 15 that He is the first born of all creation.
- 40:52We know that he wasn't the first one born in creation, that was
- 40:55Adam. But the first born of all
- 40:58creation is like the first born of all those who have been
- 41:02raised from the dead. Of all those raised from the
- 41:04dead, He is the preeminent ruler of them all.
- 41:07Of all those ever born, He is the preeminent one of them all
- 41:10because he is the pro totocas. Very important to understand the
- 41:16deity of Christ. Let me give you one more hint.
- 41:21It says verse 8, but at the Son he says your throne, O God, is
- 41:27forever and ever. The Father speaking to the Son
- 41:30calls him God your your, your throne is forever.
- 41:37And then it says, And the righteous scepter is the scepter
- 41:43of His Kingdom. You have loved righteousness and
- 41:46hated lawlessness. Therefore God, your God, has
- 41:49anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions.
- 41:53And you, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the
- 41:57earth. And the heavens are the works of
- 42:00your hands. They will perish, but you
- 42:03remain. And they all will become old
- 42:07like a garment and like a mantle you will roll them up like a
- 42:11garment. They will also be changed, but
- 42:14you are the same and your years will not come to an end.
- 42:19Why? Because He is the eternal God,
- 42:24that's why. So John says in John one verse
- 42:30one in the beginning was the Word indicating that before time
- 42:40began, before everything started up, the word had already
- 42:45existed. And you jump down to verse 14,
- 42:48it says, and the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we
- 42:56beheld his glory, the glory as of listen carefully.
- 43:03The only begotten of the Father, only begotten circle that Word.
- 43:12The word is monogamous. It's only used five times in the
- 43:19New Testament, and John uses it four times.
- 43:26God gave His only begotten Son, John 316.
- 43:30You know that verse and the only other time it's used, helps us
- 43:36understand the definition of monogamous, the only begotten.
- 43:41Again, you will have to use this when you talk to the JWS who
- 43:45come to your door. I recall a conversation I had
- 43:48when I lived in Covina and the JWS came to my door and they
- 43:51knocked in that door. I was outside doing some kind of
- 43:53yard work and they, they came to me and I love that because I was
- 43:56already sweaty and I wanted to make them sweat.
- 44:00So I kept them there as long as I could and I kept them facing
- 44:03the sun so they could see the the heat rising in them.
- 44:07And I would ask them words like, well, you say that Jesus is, is
- 44:11the first born. Well, that mean that's the word
- 44:13prototic cost. You know what that means, right?
- 44:16They have no idea what it means. So you explained it to them.
- 44:20And then then I say, they say, well, he is the only begotten of
- 44:22the Father. I said, yeah, but you know what
- 44:24monogamous means? They have no idea what it means.
- 44:28They have no idea. They are so ignorant of what it
- 44:31is they believe because they don't believe the truth.
- 44:36This is the only other time when she was outside John's gospel.
- 44:39She was 11. He was 11.
- 44:44Specifically verse #17 it says by faith, Abraham, when he was
- 44:50tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises
- 44:55was offering up his monogamies, His only begotten son.
- 45:03Let me ask you a question. How many sons did Abraham have
- 45:10at this point? 2 Was Isaac the only son of
- 45:20Abraham? No, Ishmael was.
- 45:23Ishmael was the first born son, but he was not the prototicus,
- 45:29the right to the inheritance son.
- 45:33He also wasn't the monogan Ace, the only begotten son that is
- 45:39Isaac, because he is the unique son or the son of choice.
- 45:46That's what monogan Ace means. So when John says we beheld this
- 45:50glory, the glory is that of the only begotten of the Father,
- 45:54full of grace and truth. He is the unique Son of the
- 45:58Father. He is the Son of choice of the
- 46:01Father. He is the Son who is the
- 46:03rightful heir to the inheritance of the Father.
- 46:07Has nothing to do with birth order, has everything to do with
- 46:11His preeminence and uniqueness as the Son of God.
- 46:17May I present to you Jesus the eternality of the Son.
- 46:23He has always existed. He never came into being.
- 46:29He is the originator of eternity.
- 46:32Well, to to be the originator of something, you have to be what
- 46:37that is, and He is the eternal God of the universe.
- 46:42From everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
- 46:49We are embarking on a journey that is the most crucial journey
- 46:54you will ever be on because it's a journey about the identity of
- 47:01the Christ and what you believe about Christ is everything.
- 47:07Everything. If you get Christ wrong, you'll
- 47:12get Christianity completely wrong.
- 47:16So you need to begin at the very beginning.
- 47:19Who is Jesus? Because who He is is all that
- 47:26matters. So let me ask you who do you say
- 47:33Jesus is? Who do you say the Christ child
- 47:41is? It's not what do you think or
- 47:46who do you think he is? It's what does the Bible say He
- 47:52is. That's why you must always keep
- 47:55your finger in the text. That's why you test every
- 47:59spirit, every message, every messenger.
- 48:02Always. Just because they say they're
- 48:05Christians doesn't mean they are.
- 48:09You must examine what they believe about the Christ because
- 48:14that would tell you everything you need to know about what it
- 48:16is they they believe about life and death.
- 48:21My prayer for you and me as we embarked in this journey, and we
- 48:24just introduced to you the first phrase of John, chapter one
- 48:28verse #1 It's going to take us a while, but there's no hurry
- 48:34because it's imperative that you get Jesus absolutely correct as
- 48:41John presents him. He is the Christ, He is the
- 48:45Messiah. He is a Son of the living God.
- 48:49Let's pray together. Lord, we thank you for this day,
- 48:52and we thank You for this opportunity You've given us to
- 48:54spend time in Your word. We are grateful.
- 48:58Our prayer, Lord, is that you would embed Your word deep into
- 49:02our hearts. Let there be no confusion among
- 49:06us about who You are, that truly we would have believed that
- 49:10Jesus is exactly who He says He is in the Scriptures, and that
- 49:16Lord, we would not be LED astray by those who are truly
- 49:20Antichrist. They deny that you came in the
- 49:24flesh. They tell us that you have taken
- 49:28Satan's nature. All those things are completely
- 49:32and totally wrong. But you, Lord of the Christ, you
- 49:36are the Messiah. You're the sinless God.
- 49:40Man 100% God 100% man, came to die for our sins, that we might
- 49:47be called the children of the living God.
- 49:51And so, Lord, until you come again, may we proclaim the true
- 49:56Jesus to those who are lost in their sin.
- 50:01We pray in Jesus name, Amen.
