- 0:00Track Cass, The Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trick Podcast. Hey, Hey,
- 0:23welcome to track Cass, the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trek Podcast. I am
- 0:30one of your hosts, Dan Lombardo of Earth with me as always. Daniel
- 0:35Ray is also of Earth. That's right. He doesn't throw that around,
- 0:39he doesn't flash it around. He doesn't right, not to throw it around
- 0:42too much. Yeah, but he too, He too hails from the third
- 0:46Rock from the Sun as far as we know as we know, that's right.
- 0:51I mean, you know, we don't know for sure. A lot
- 0:53of stuff they've been saying on Capitol Hill last couple of weeks. That's right,
- 0:57that's right, that's right. I could be an alien. Who knows
- 1:00it could be. We don't know. We just but I just don't know.
- 1:04So it's just us. It's weird, okay. Were we not able
- 1:11to get it? Does it? Does it? At what point? Does
- 1:15it become the norm? Man? I don't know. So we weren't able
- 1:19to get Scott, we weren't able to get Gentry. Yeah. I do
- 1:23have a way to maybe get somebody else. Okay, who do we hold
- 1:26on? Let me pack ethan pack is hosting drug ass that's right. Let
- 1:32me let me see if I can light the it's coming. We'll light it.
- 1:56We'll light it there, and he's better babies. The favorite part of
- 2:10all of that is where you got Scott shrinking. I didn't even have to
- 2:16say mecap that's right. Oh that was brilliant. Morning everybody. Yes,
- 2:28good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning from England. If
- 2:34only that was true, he says, the gorn impregnated Chad with egg babies,
- 2:38and he's with Nurse Chapel at the moment. God, I wish I
- 2:39was a man. Yeah, smoke a cigar just thinking about it. Now,
- 2:51he's got cigars, said a cigar or pretzel? Rod? What do
- 2:54you? What do you do? It's a cigar. It's a cigar,
- 2:58all right. I don't light him. I just chew on them. I
- 3:00just kind of know on them. Okay. Anyway, that's that's something new.
- 3:06No, No, this has always been a thing. I've always done
- 3:08this. Nurse Chapel, you would too, Bronson, any of the any
- 3:16of the ladies listening to this show right now can also a test that they
- 3:20also would. Jasmine, that's what my dad does. I mean, he
- 3:35wasn't clear, so maybe maybe I mean both are good. Okay, both
- 3:39are fine, solid options either way, yes, either way. Okay,
- 3:44why is your name? Why is your name? Last show? Yeah,
- 3:46what's up with that? Uh? Yeah, So, I mean there's been
- 3:51a lot of speculations and rumors with me being absent over the summer, quite
- 3:55a bit a lot going on. So we'll just rip the band aid off
- 4:00right now and just yea look. Uh, today is gonna be my last
- 4:06episode of track cast until we do another one. You know, you know
- 4:18Scott Bowders was listening to that and he oh he had his heart left.
- 4:23You ever see that meme with the with the black dude and the yellow suit.
- 4:27He's half behind the tree, Yeah yeah, yeah, or the one
- 4:32with the or the one with the guy behind the fern blush going right right.
- 4:36He's waiting, he's waiting to jump out. It is my last one,
- 4:44covering season two of Strange New Worlds though as that works out, that
- 4:48works works, Yeah, until we take a break. I have one episode
- 4:53and then go right back to lower decks. Yeah pretty much. Yeah.
- 4:56Yeah, Oh is that how soon? It's that's how soon number seventh.
- 5:00Actually, no, that's that's two weeks. But no, it's like almost
- 5:02a month. That's almost a month September seventh, So from what I counted,
- 5:09we would have one episode. Like if we take a break, do
- 5:12one episode, take another week off, and then come back it's lower X
- 5:15Oh oh yeah it's a month. Yeah yeah, yeah, all right,
- 5:18yeah, we should try to fit in some trivia shows. I don't know,
- 5:24some fun little shows, non review episode kind of things. Oh,
- 5:28we're gonna have a lot of time after Lower Dex is over. You know
- 5:32you gotta be here to do that. Yeah, you mean I gotta show
- 5:38up. Yeah, you just say I'm a host and not come on the
- 5:41show. I mean your favorite shows around the Corner Man Discoveries Back. The
- 5:45amount of prep work for this show though, was killing me. Oh yeah
- 5:51yeah yeah a yally, as you're right, watch along shows. We've talked
- 5:56about that for forever. We should do that. Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 6:00There's some legalities with watch lungs. But yeah, well, as long as
- 6:06we're not streaming the video, if we're telling people when to start the video,
- 6:10we're just watching, that's what you have to do. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:14can you play the audio at the same time? Okay, I didn't
- 6:16think so, Yeah, that's too bad. It'd be hilarious to have us
- 6:19interacting with Oh I said, I copied it, but I didn't send it
- 6:25to you guys. I'll send you guys this link. You gotta watch this
- 6:29later, do it all? Right? Well, should we get to the
- 6:33news? Sure, yeah, go for it. Let's go for the news
- 6:39news, right, So, our first news story comes to us from trekmovie
- 6:44dot com. And apparently Paramount had their big second quarter financial results this week
- 6:51on Monday, and so we are learning new more things about what Paramount plans
- 6:57to do in the future, and they are going to be cutting back big
- 7:00time. No, yeah, they did announce. So they have sixty one
- 7:06million subscribers to Paramount Plus right now, and even then, they are still
- 7:11losing hundreds of millions of dollars, so they need to cut back. They
- 7:16say they have a laser focus on content that they have plans in place.
- 7:23They have learned that they have been doing too much content per franchise, so
- 7:29they want to scale it back. So they say they need to have enough
- 7:33content to keep people interested, but not too much to overwhelm them. So
- 7:39this might be why Prodigy is going away. Is the theory, but laser
- 7:44focus on content. We're doing too much content. Those things don't seem to
- 7:49jive. Oh yeah, I'll tell you right now. I'll tell you right
- 7:55now. I scroll through Netflix sometimes and I have to scroll pass so much
- 8:01crap that I have zero interest in before finding something that I'm even remotely interested
- 8:07in. At this point, I don't even know why I have Netflix anymore.
- 8:11But I think the same people that are that are that are piloting that
- 8:16sinking ship, are are piloting the Paramount plus sinking ship. Because you know,
- 8:22they made this big push over the last few months about Netflix hired Arnold
- 8:26Schwarzenegger as their their action action action whatever their actions are, to make sure
- 8:33there's enough action, right, And then I get an email from Netflix.
- 8:37You know what's what's leaving Netflix this month? Terminator two Judgment Day is leaving
- 8:43Netflix this month. That that is arguably the role and the movie that he
- 8:50is most known for. If you had to, if I had to pick
- 8:54one Schwartzenegger movie that I could, I can only watch one Schwartzenegger movie ever
- 8:58again for the rest of my life, it would probably be Terminator to Judgment
- 9:01Day. Why is that leaving Netflix? Why why is it not Kindergarten Cop.
- 9:07Yeah, it's not a Tuma. Get out of here. It's not
- 9:11a tuma. That's like, yeah, the best one liner ever. Yeah,
- 9:16for sure. Yeah, they can't show that movie. They can't show
- 9:20that movie anymore because the five year old says boys have a penis, girls
- 9:24have a vagina, and that's not true anymore. So No, it's hate
- 9:28speeds or just killing Daniel every time he makes these kinds of comments. They
- 9:35just kill Did they make a sequel to Kindergarten Cop? Yeah? Yeah,
- 9:39oh good lord. Yeah it was straight to Blockbuster. Yeah. It was
- 9:45something like the Russian government wants to make the best kindergarten teacher ever, so
- 9:50they so they shoot him up with steroids computers, but he's still not a
- 9:56match for a regular, good old American kindergarten teacher. Oh god, is
- 10:00that really the premise? No, I know, but I still wouldn't be
- 10:07surprised. You know. It's funny though, growing up as a kid watching
- 10:13the Shortzeger movies or seeing Dolph Lundren or seeing anything with Wesley Snipes or what's
- 10:20his name the karate guy from these No, not that loser, the other
- 10:24one, the French dude. Yeah, se Sean Claude von Dam or whatever
- 10:30his name is, all of those guys all in the course of uster stallone.
- 10:35All I ever wanted was to see all of them together in one action
- 10:41movie. Uh huh. And then then we got it with expendables, right,
- 10:46and it was awesome and amazing, and they stopped making those. I
- 10:50don't know why I still want to see seventy year old action heroes. Know
- 10:54they're making another one. Part four is coming out like later this month,
- 10:56or I've never seen any God watch them. They are like they're like chicken
- 11:03sit for this soul. That's a wrestler, Rob van Dam. Yeah,
- 11:05yeah, they really are. It's like such a great they're such they're so
- 11:11stupid and they're so predictable. But it's just a perfect, you know,
- 11:15nostalgic action movie with all those guys together in one. It's somebody fantastic good
- 11:20box and just bashed the figures together. Yeah, it's exactly what it is.
- 11:24It's perfect. It just it makes you feel like a kid again.
- 11:28Yeah. So anyway, all right, I've got a couple of little news
- 11:31news interesting things going around. So to promote season two of Strange New Worlds
- 11:35and finale. They sent the producers out to do interviews and so A.
- 11:41Kiva's Goldsman was doing an interview with Variety and he was all excited about season
- 11:46two and he did mention that, you know, the longer that Strange New
- 11:52Worlds goes, we will see potentially more ts, characters and bones. So
- 11:58they're that also we are learning that because of the strike and because of everything,
- 12:07we probably will not get the resolve of this cliffhanger until twenty twenty five.
- 12:13Oh god, yeah, all year, next year nothing. Yeah,
- 12:18yeah, past one hundred day mark, which is the longest strike in history,
- 12:22wasn't it. Well they're past one hundred day mark for writers, actors
- 12:26not so much, but still yeah, and it's it's gonna keep going.
- 12:31Yeah, they gotta be they gotta be careful because here's the thing. Strikes
- 12:37are tough. You go on you go on strike, and the people who
- 12:43agree with you and support you, at some point they start feeling the pain
- 12:50of your striking and you start to lose some of them. So they have
- 12:56to find the sweet spot of when and how to end this thing. Yeah,
- 13:03but for sure, and right now, like the studios aren't even coming
- 13:07to the table. They just first of the first time in like ninety days.
- 13:11They did with the writers just last week. So yeah, well they
- 13:16don't need to yet, that's the thing. They don't. They don't have
- 13:18their investors yelling at him yet, so to get more content going. But
- 13:24and then our last news story, this came out from Variety because they're probably
- 13:28just kicking over rocks for news stories at this point. But it's a little
- 13:31interesting little factoid came out. Apparently Timothy Oliphant was originally supposed to be Captain
- 13:37Kirk in the Star Trek movies instead of Chris Pine. Timothy Oliphant, If
- 13:43you don't know who he is, he's from Justifying. He was a great
- 13:50actor. He was also in The Mandalorian. He plays that that sheriff that
- 13:54hangs out with Bobafat and the Mandalorian. Oh okay that guy, yeah,
- 13:58yea, yeah. I thought Dan would get it with that. He's not
- 14:01a He's not a Kirk to me. Yeah, he's got a little bit
- 14:05of a rye kind of joky attitude to him. Sure he does, but
- 14:09he's a little too tall and spindly for that. I think Chris Pine was
- 14:11perfect that's apparently JJ Abrams called him and says, I found a guy younger
- 14:18and who's really good. That's that's what happened to Timothy oli Funt. Yeah,
- 14:26yeah, I just thought it was interesting. Yeah, no, I
- 14:28like all the fun I like it. I like Justified was a fantastic series,
- 14:33really really good. I think they came out with some kind of sequel
- 14:35to it or whatever where he's in it. Yeah, yeah, I think
- 14:37it's out now. Yeah. Yeah, So I don't know if that's gonna
- 14:41do any good or not. And that seems kind of the wrong place to
- 14:46put him. But I've read good reviews, but I haven't watched it,
- 14:48and I love Justified. I just yeah, Justify, it's fantastic. Yeah,
- 14:52so yep, yep. All right, Well that's all the news stories.
- 14:58Let's let's get to the main top I will now connect. And I
- 15:09was like, do we do feedback and then we do Yeah, the order
- 15:13of things. These are the order of things. Yeah, it's news,
- 15:18it's great topic and then feedback. But yeah, so we had season two,
- 15:24episode ten, season finale had Geminy a Gemini whatever, geminy geminy.
- 15:33Yeah, So so I watched it. I was on vacation this week Ohnok.
- 15:39I took took the wife and kids up to Lake George spent a week
- 15:43the Great Escape Lodge. So I watched this episode on my son's iPad in
- 15:48the lobby with my earbuds and while I had in my morning coffee one morning
- 15:54this week, and then I tried to rewatch it last night, only got
- 15:58about a halfway through and I got a splitting migraine spent. It was terrible.
- 16:03It was the worst migraine I've ever had. Spent hours on the couch
- 16:07with like a wet rag over my over my eyes, and yeah, it
- 16:11was bad. So I've seen it one point five times. Okay. The
- 16:15second time I was taking notes, but my notes and when they start pushing
- 16:23the saucer section into the planet, so sorry, I've got I've got the
- 16:30logline, okay, And it says when the when the USS Enterprise investigates an
- 16:34attack on a colony at the edge of Federation space, Captain Pike and his
- 16:38crew faced the return of a formidable enemy. Mm hmm, there you go.
- 16:47So the cornerback, baby. I was really intrigued with the idea of
- 16:55this colony that they're they're on and they mentioned they mentioned how this is a
- 17:03this is a colony that's using the quote Midwest model and they're modeling it after
- 17:11a Midwestern town in uh in the United States. And it got me wondering,
- 17:17like, you know, you're a human. It's the twenty third or
- 17:19the twenty fourth century. You know, you're sitting down to dinner with your
- 17:23wife and you're like, all right, I got this crazy idea. Yes,
- 17:30let's be colonists. Oh I don't know, honey, Earth this nice.
- 17:33No no, no, no, no, no, listen. I
- 17:37went to the place today. I got the pamphlets. We could choose from
- 17:40the Midwest model, the Old West model. They have a medieval model,
- 17:45Greco Roman, huh huh, ancient orients, Native American colonial, beyond light
- 17:53speed. You can summon food just by talking to the scene. All of
- 17:59that gone yep, yep, yep. But it's like, no, I
- 18:03want to live on you know, I don't know the prehistoric model is there
- 18:06like a caveman. It's like medieval times, but you live there, that's
- 18:10right, You like cashole because we're gonna go to the future and have in
- 18:14a Midwest. But you know, then it got me thinking, like Okay,
- 18:22you know the Federation has colonies. Yeah, you know, are there
- 18:26human colonies and Vulcan colonies? Are they integrated? Can a human shoes to
- 18:32go live in a Vulcan model colony? Is that cultural appropriation? Or are
- 18:37they beyond that? Well, in enterprise, we had the old West Town,
- 18:42right, but that was different. They those were people that were were
- 18:48we're kidnapped by aliens in the eight in the eighteen hundreds. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:53yeah, like and then it got me, Oh good, I was
- 19:00gonna say, when I saw them wanting to live that way, I thought
- 19:02of them as like space amish, Yeah, kind of like that. That's
- 19:07kind of what I got the bibo. Yeah, but I mean they had
- 19:08cars and stuff. They looked like like six wheeled golf cards comparatively, right,
- 19:14yeah, yeah, you know the barber shop, he's ringing the bell
- 19:17outside. It's not using a PA system or get the rail alcds do get
- 19:22their Internet, yep, yep. But yeah, yeah, it got me
- 19:27think of the political structure of all this. So this was a this appeared
- 19:33to be a human colony, right, but not. They're not a member
- 19:37of the federation. They didn't want to be a member of the Federation.
- 19:40Yet the Federation is you know, the Federation is there offering support or whatever.
- 19:45Yeah, but so does each colony that becomes a federation member? Do
- 19:52they get a vote in the Federation Council? Do they count as a federation
- 19:59planet? I just feel like by the twenty fourth century, we often hear
- 20:02them say, oh, it's a it's a federation of over one hundred and
- 20:04fifty planets, right, So is that one hundred and fifty different species,
- 20:12like one hundred and fifty home worlds or is that one hundred and fifty planets?
- 20:17Because I feel like by the twenty fourth century, Earth probably has one
- 20:21hundred and fifty colonies itself out there. And then if you're a if you're
- 20:27a human living on a Federation colony, who's your elected official in the Federation
- 20:34Council? Do you vote for the Earth representative or do you have your own
- 20:40representative? Or are there three houses of Congress There's the Homeworld House, the
- 20:44Colony House, and then the Senate? How does it work? These are
- 20:48the things, Yeah, these are the things that I want to know.
- 20:52What kind of voting starcturer? The first past to post rank and vile you
- 20:56know, what's that rank choice voting they branch. Yeah, so the answer
- 21:03to the question of is it one hundred and fifty planets or is it one
- 21:07hundred and fifty home worlds? Okay, do you guys hear that? Yeah?
- 21:12It feedback. Okay, anyway, if you hear it again, let
- 21:15me know the answer to one hundred fifty planets or one hundred fifty home world
- 21:21is sure, right of course, come on, really never they never cleared
- 21:26up. There's nothing anywhere that clears all that up. I kind of hanging
- 21:30on the side that it's one hundred and fifty homeworld's species. That's what I
- 21:36think as well, That's kind of what I go off of. But yeah,
- 21:38so here's here's my other here's my other thing. And I'm not trying
- 21:42to take a big dump on this episode. I'm not. But we'll skip
- 21:48ahead a little bit. The Gorn attack to human colony outside of Federation space.
- 21:53Why would the colonists ever choose to settle there. That's like a bunch
- 21:59of them Americans choosing to build a community on a small unclaimed island that's in
- 22:04international waters, but it just happens to be next to North Korea. Why
- 22:10would you ever, ever, ever, ever do that. I could almost
- 22:15guarantee you that if there was an uninhabited island one hundred and fifty two hundred
- 22:21three hundred miles off the coast of North Korea, someone would try to colonize
- 22:26it. Yeah, China, China, not a bunch of Amish people from
- 22:33Pennsylvania who are like, this is this is true, but we're out.
- 22:37Let's uh, let's move to almost North Korea. I mean, there's a
- 22:41reason why we have stuff in Guam, so you know, Yeah, it
- 22:48doesn't make well, it does, but it doesn't make a whole lot of
- 22:51sense. It doesn't make sense from the standpoint of everything you just mentioned.
- 22:55You're right, that seems stupid when you couch it that way. But for
- 22:57those people who either a don't know any better or b don't quite understand what
- 23:03the issue is with the gorner in the first place. Yeah, And it's
- 23:08in terms of people wanting to have a frontier, wanting to get away from
- 23:14the norms of society and do something different and on their own. Man,
- 23:18that happens every day. It happens every day in the United States. People
- 23:22are just wanting to get away from society. They want to move out of
- 23:26the city, they want to go somewhere different. They moved to a different
- 23:29county or a different state, or even a different country. So I don't
- 23:33see any reason. I mean, that's just humans in general. I don't
- 23:37see any reason why why that would change in the next three four hundred years,
- 23:41for for for people. I just I just don't. So, yes,
- 23:45I have pikes hair, thank you very much, tamer And So I
- 23:51mean, yeah, there you go. Yeah, yeah, pretty much.
- 23:57Yay, you're right, you're right, yeah, yeah, exactly. George
- 24:03Kirk, George right, that's his name, George Kirk. No, it's
- 24:06not George Sam Sam Sam Sam Kirk Sam Kirk. Yeah. So what's the
- 24:15deal with this guy? I don't know. They just throw him in every
- 24:18once in a while for no reason. Yeah, I feel like I feel
- 24:22like we're not supposed to like him. Do you get that? Do you
- 24:26get that feeling like him? Yeah? I know what you're saying, though,
- 24:30I get the feeling that we're supposed to be annoyed by him. I
- 24:33don't understand how you can just walk into a command officers meeting like that anyway,
- 24:37that was dumb, Like, what the hell happened there? Yeah,
- 24:41so I've realized something last night. And I don't know if this contributes to
- 24:45not to getting a weird vibe from him. But he has a mustache but
- 24:52no other facial hair, yeah, which which is extremely uncommon nowadays. It
- 25:03used to be very common. Yeah, but it's it's extremely uncommon nowadays,
- 25:08and coming back young guys, is it. Yeah, it's all right,
- 25:12I wish it, but I mean, it's it. It used to be
- 25:18very common. It's now very uncommon. I mean even to the point where
- 25:23a lot of uniformed services that would never allow a beard are softening their facial
- 25:29hair policies. You see police departments with guys with full beards now where that
- 25:33was never that was never allowed. It used to be you know, military
- 25:37standards and and yeah, I don't know. I just I don't know.
- 25:42I don't know what is with him. And I don't know if it's the
- 25:45mustache. I don't know if they're trying to yeah it's the Chester Molester mustache,
- 25:51but I don't know they do. You remember when bardists, when Bordist
- 25:52got a mustache, it was but it was just it was just a mustache,
- 25:57all right, And they said, what do you join in the fire
- 26:00department because that's the only thing you could have, just a mustache, and
- 26:04right, I missed that show. I don't know, Yeah, I don't
- 26:11know. I'm annoyed by Sam a little bit, and I was very annoyed
- 26:14with him in this episode because here's a chicken shit guy and Xenobiology all of
- 26:18a sudden throws himself into the command staff meeting. He shouldn't shouldn't be able
- 26:22to just walk in on that, and it's all like, I want to
- 26:25go kick some ass, you know, like really really trim your beer.
- 26:29Okay, you're getting hit. He also had his brother on the ship two
- 26:33weeks in a row, making him yeah, making him a left Yeah,
- 26:37yeah, yeah, yeah. You know we think I said, if we
- 26:41liked the episode, we just got right into just ripping. Oh no,
- 26:44no, I like you know, hey, you know what, it's strange
- 26:47New Worlds buddy. Yeah, I like it. There's a plenty there's plenty
- 26:51wrong with it. Yeah, there's plenty of playing wrong with it. But
- 26:55you know, I like it. I do like it. There's some silly
- 27:00things like the new you know, we got this new technology that can take
- 27:03out the the Gorn. You know what else could take out the Gorn.
- 27:10Old technology. Yeah, bullets, bullets, yeah, yeah, bullets yeah,
- 27:15you know, uh, projectile fired through a metal tube by using the
- 27:22expanding gases behind it. That's that's you know, that's proven technology. Flame
- 27:30thrower always works. Yeah, that too, That's really what they should have
- 27:33brought out. Yeah, yeah, because it's it's so much a Ridley Scott
- 27:41production here with Aliens going on, I mean it really is. Yeah,
- 27:45you know, I had a thought on that. So they've become the Gorn
- 27:52have become like Star Treks, Zeno morphs, aliens from the Aliens franchise,
- 27:57and if I remember, if if I remember correctly, those xenomorphs whatever whatever,
- 28:06they impregnate the offspring take on some of the characteristics. Yeah. Yeah,
- 28:14So they've been impregnating a lot of humans lately. Maybe that's why the
- 28:18Gorn that we're going to see in five years when Captain Kirk fights him on
- 28:25what is it, sessed Us three or whatever, maybe maybe that's why he
- 28:29looks more human than what we're seeing right now. I can't remember where I
- 28:33saw it, but someone was pointing out that apparently in the books and in
- 28:37even like the role playing games like the older ones. There are two subspecies
- 28:42of Gorn. They are like the humanoid looking one and then they're kind of
- 28:47like the one we're seeing now on Stranger Worlds. Well, the adult one
- 28:52that we saw this week that was in the yeah, was in the space
- 28:56suit. You know, we saw him clinging to the ceiling. We didn't
- 29:03see him standing upright right. And the last adult Gorn that we saw was
- 29:11in this second to last episode of Enterprise, and it was it was terrible,
- 29:18terrible, terrible cgie. But asition one draphics baby. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:25but it was kind of the same thing. He wasn't standing upright,
- 29:27he was he was kind of Yeah, I don't know if he was on
- 29:32all fours or just hunched over. It's been a while since I've seen it.
- 29:34Yeah, I think what he even looked like in that one. I
- 29:37watched a little bit of the Will Wheaton Show. They didn't really do any
- 29:41interviews. It was all like just about special effects. That that adult Gorn
- 29:45is a dude in a suit. It's not CGI. Oh, okay,
- 29:51so that's kind of cool. Well that's yeah. So I mean this is
- 29:53that's the only adult that we've seen on this show. The others have all
- 29:57been you know, little babies, and and the fact that they're not attacking
- 30:03each other anymore, that could also be that they're taking on some human characteristics.
- 30:11Yeah, you know, they're they're cooperative. Yeah, they're a pack
- 30:17animal, a hurt animal, as opposed to you know, something like a
- 30:22reptile. That. I don't take that soul as day, I don't.
- 30:26I don't take that as an evolutionary thing or a genetic change, or even
- 30:30a pattern change from the Gorn. I take that more as we don't at
- 30:34this point in time. The Federation doesn't know a whole lot about the Gorn,
- 30:41and the people in the Enterprise only know what la On tell them.
- 30:45She was on a different planet under different circumstances, which is probably a which
- 30:49could have just been looked at as a as a true breeding planet from the
- 30:53standpoint of we want to breed the best warriors. Therefore they're going to compete.
- 30:57We've told them to compete, whereas here they're trying to colonize or they're
- 31:02trying to take over the resources or whatever else. And so yeah, here,
- 31:07guys, we're not trying to raise warriors. Here, we're just trying
- 31:10to consume and hold on too, So of course we're gonna work together.
- 31:12We don't want to kill each other, right, So, I mean,
- 31:15I could just I could see that more. They're supposedly intelligent creatures, and
- 31:19of course when we see the adult this time around, finally he's trying to
- 31:23bypass security protocalls. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so that's true. So
- 31:29I mean I look at them as being very very intelligent, very very aggressive,
- 31:34but I would think that they're able to at least tell or talk to
- 31:37their young ones in terms of Okay, now's the time to compete. You
- 31:41know. It's like it's like a cockfight. You know, the roosters are
- 31:42going to go in there and compete, and who wins is going to be
- 31:45the best soldier. But now, hey, guess what, guys, we
- 31:47gotta take over the area and secure it and grow and breed. Don't kill
- 31:52each other, just make more. That's kind of the way I look at
- 31:55it, and that's why there's differences there. I can see that. I
- 32:00think it's in a reptile dysfunction. Yeah yeah, I think that this episode
- 32:08kind of showed me something in that they were calling back to their previous encounter
- 32:13with them saying we learned, you know, about the lights, and that
- 32:15they somehow communicate with lights and everything. I'm hoping that they have like a
- 32:22roadmap, like the writers of what they want to eventually get the Gorn to
- 32:25be. Yeah, it sounds like it, but you know, I guess
- 32:30we'll find out. We'll find out in twenty twenty five. Yeah. Yeah,
- 32:35they got plenty of time to think about where they're gonna do with them.
- 32:38Well, Gentry brings up a good point. He says, for a
- 32:40species that communicates with light, it sure was figuring out that security override quickly.
- 32:46Now here's the thing, Gentry. We know that they communicate with light,
- 32:52but that doesn't mean that they only communicate with light. I go back
- 32:57to you go back to that episode when they're doing that, and then you
- 33:00go to this episode where they've put that beacon down or whatever to scramble all
- 33:04the communications, right, well, scrambles their own as well, and so
- 33:07therefore they have to use light to communicate when they're trying to jam everything else.
- 33:13Right, So I don't think that they only communicate with light. I
- 33:16think that's kind of that's that's so limiting, honestly, unless it's like an
- 33:21optical thing that you think gets picked up and translated back. But I mean
- 33:24they clearly have a language they can clearly read or something. He's tapping away
- 33:29in those controls, going nuts on it, trying to break that the override.
- 33:31So I look at that as just one of their techniques. Yeah,
- 33:37they else they have interstellar travel. They can communicate with some other way clicking
- 33:45a flashlight at each other. I think when when we're the universal translator finally
- 33:50kicks in and we can interpret all the hissing and growling and we get a
- 33:54voice. Now, I really want them to all to have strong box in
- 33:59Boston, a sense maybe angry. Yeah, so two things with that.
- 34:07Wolf asked a good question. He says, what was the Gorn trying to
- 34:08get to? Obviously he's trying to get to whatever He's trying to get into
- 34:12the computer. He's trying to get dating. He's trying to get all the
- 34:14background details deployment, ships, rosters, numbers, crew locations, he's trying
- 34:19to get all that kind of stuff. That's to me, that's the only
- 34:21thing I could think that they want or care about. There's just locations of
- 34:23more food, because they really do look at at every other race is food.
- 34:29Honestly, so far at this point, that's all we've seen. So
- 34:31and then the other thought, though it'll come back to me the second.
- 34:37I had two things there, but whatever, So I thought it was interesting,
- 34:43you know, when he's talking when Pike is talking to Admiral April there,
- 34:46Yeah, I got that feedback again. Yeah, it's gone. Yeah,
- 34:52and he says, you know, he says something like, you know,
- 34:58well, maybe we just don't understand them. And Pike says, they're
- 35:01not hard to understand, Bob, They're monsters, right, And he says,
- 35:06monsters a word to describe. Uh, thanks, who don't understand Yeah,
- 35:12those who don't understand us and Pike without skipping a beat, sometimes a
- 35:15monster is just a monster. And I kind of got echoes. I know
- 35:22they're not saying the exact same thing, but I got I got echoes of
- 35:24Star Trek six the Undiscovered Country, when Kirk and Spock are discussing the Klingons.
- 35:30Yeah, and he says, Jim, there's a historic opportunity here.
- 35:34Don't believe him, don't trust them. He says they're dying. He says,
- 35:37let him die. Yeah, Yeah, I'm sure they were. They
- 35:42were thinking that for shadow in that. I just I just look at it
- 35:46that that they're they're doing a good job at least layering all the different sides
- 35:51of the Gorn and keeping a lot of it in mystery, not knowing exactly
- 35:53what the whole endgame thing there is. And for me, I look at
- 35:57the Gorn is like it's just a species that consumes. They're very intelligent,
- 36:01they're very aggressive, and they just consume. Bronson asss Betel gone. I
- 36:07think she's dead. Yeah, I think that's that's more dramatic than she survives.
- 36:14And we keep going. We've seen way too much of her this year.
- 36:17Yeah. Yeah, he's always around in her ship. There's a relationship
- 36:21thing there. We know he's without her down the road. He knows he
- 36:27knows he's without her down the roads well, you know, and he hasn't
- 36:31said it yet, but I'm sure he's he's going to say that. You
- 36:36know, in my visions, I didn't I didn't see her when when the
- 36:40me from the future visited me last season, he didn't mention her at all.
- 36:46Gentry says, next season, we're gonna have a Gorn dance number.
- 36:50Yeah, So that reminds me of the other point I was going to make
- 36:53about the Gorn, this this whole theory. They came up with the CSM
- 36:58or whatever is the Colonel Massim asked the coronal mass ejection and that draws the
- 37:01Gorn in No, no, no, no, no, totally wrong and
- 37:05backwards. That's that makes them sound so insect like and so yeah, that
- 37:10makes them sound like they're dumb. Yeah, I don't think that's the case
- 37:15at all. I think that they created that because they were trying to clear
- 37:19out the area. I got a great transition speaking of dumb. Let's go
- 37:22over our predictions. Oh boy, So we did a bunch of Yeah,
- 37:31you may want to write down numbers here. We did a bunch of predictions
- 37:35for at the beginning of the season what we thought would happen. We went
- 37:38by likely and unlikely. So let's go through them all. First one was
- 37:45number one, returns to the ship for good within the first episode. So
- 37:52Chad said that this was unlikely, and both myself and Dan said that it
- 37:57was likely. Chad was correct. Chad was correct. You didn't show up
- 38:01until the second episode, So I get a point for that. You get
- 38:05a point for that. Okay, So one point for Chad zero zero,
- 38:09Daniel and Daniel right now we got. Next one was Spock turns evil for
- 38:15at least one episode. Chad and Dan both said that that was likely,
- 38:20and I said it was unlikely. It didn't happen, So that's one point
- 38:23for me. Oh man, yeah. Next one was we visit the Mirror
- 38:30Universe. Chad said unlikely. I also said unlikely. Dan said it was
- 38:38likely. So both both Chad and I get a point because it did not.
- 38:42Oh my god, I'm doing horrible here. For three Dan, you're
- 38:46oh for three, Daniel and I are tied. Yep, three or two?
- 38:52Oh for three. We've done three of them now and you didn't get
- 38:53any of them. Yeah, you each got. So it's it's three G
- 38:58three you're you're over three. Daniel is zero one one. I am one
- 39:05zero one. Okay, all right, see each guy two? Yes,
- 39:08yes, okay. Next one, the new Chief Engineer survives the season and
- 39:15remains on the ship. So both Chad and Dan said that it was unlikely,
- 39:21and I was correct and said it was likely. I just yeah,
- 39:24I I don't understand how they didn't kill her, especially with Scott right there.
- 39:30Scotti's there now right, Well, we do have a cliffhanger, so
- 39:35yeah, yeah, So if she dies in the next episode, does that
- 39:37kills because it's the two parter, does that kid can't go back and retroactlively?
- 39:43Fix this candle? Nope, nope, Yeah, Daniel's ahead. Three.
- 39:49Number five, the ship blows up. Both myself and Chad said it
- 39:55was unlikely, and Dan said it was likely, and Dan was Dan was
- 40:00wrong, and Shad and I were correct. Man oh man, man man.
- 40:07I was running away with this though he's four to five. Next one,
- 40:10Pike's ultimate fate is somehow avoided. Chad said unlikely, Dan said unlikely.
- 40:19I said unlikely. So we all got it correct and finally got one.
- 40:22Yeah. Yeah, but at all No, of course not. I
- 40:29think I think at this point you can't. I mean, I don't know
- 40:31how many predictions we have one more left. Yeah, it's no way for
- 40:36you to catch up tie, all right. Next one, Hammer returns in
- 40:43a flashback or otherwise. Oh lord. Chad got this wrong by saying unlikely,
- 40:49whereas Dan and I both said it likely. Yeah, happened in episode
- 40:52six. Yep, there's a good episode. It was a good episode,
- 40:55all right. Number seven, we see cartoon version of at least two Strange
- 41:00New World's crew members during the crossover. Chad got it incorrect by saying unlikely,
- 41:08whereas Dan and I said likely, And we had the big room scene
- 41:13with pretty much all of them. So I'm I'm gaining on Chad. I
- 41:19don't need to beat Daniel, but I need to beat Chad, all right.
- 41:25Number nine Discovery gets name dropped. They have to say the name.
- 41:32Both Chad and myself said likely. Dan was the only one who was correct
- 41:37to say unlikely because it didn't happen. All right, So I'm tied with
- 41:42Chad. And then the last one there is a reference to an Enterprise character.
- 41:49We all got it correct by saying likely because it did happen in the
- 41:52crossover. They name dropped Archer, Hoshi and Mayweather. Yeah, yeah,
- 42:00all right, I tied Chad. I can live with that, Okay,
- 42:04Yep, yep, tied. Ganga ran away with it. One two,
- 42:07So you got eight out of ten. Yeah, you only missed two,
- 42:08so we got eight out of ten. Wow? Yeah, good job.
- 42:12Wow. Yeah, So we'll have to do this again for Strange New Worlds.
- 42:16You mean lower decks lower decks? Yeah? Whatever, So what did
- 42:22the winner you get a golden dribble a double dog sandwich from the opening.
- 42:27Yeah, which which has been sitting in there all this time? I want
- 42:30that sandwich looking sandwich. Yeah it is. We got out on a pontoon
- 42:37on the lake here close by yesterday. Kind of a new thing we're gonna
- 42:42do at the end of the summer before the kids go back to school.
- 42:45We'll get out on a on a boat for a couple of hours. And
- 42:47we took sandwiches with us, and we did, we did. We didn't
- 42:50have sandwich looked like that, but we had sandwich a regular old Hogy style
- 42:53on the funds. But it's fun, nice good sandwich. Right on.
- 43:00Well, let's get to feedback. Well, oh yeah, I had I
- 43:04had a couple of things in my notes. Oh yeah, you go first.
- 43:07So they keep mentioning doctor Corby that Chapel is going to go do this
- 43:10internship or whatever it is. Yeah, he is from TS. I don't
- 43:15know if you guys realized, but that is her ex fiance, so she
- 43:21gets involved, right yeah, yeah, what else do we have? Star
- 43:29Trek Trope in three two, one and go. I'm about to disobey our
- 43:34orders. Feel free to participate yes, I kind of, you know,
- 43:42I do one of those whenever that whenever that happens, here's gotta be like
- 43:45one guy who's like, what they told us, leave, let's leave.
- 43:49I'm just getting my shirt on. Leave. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:54So this got me a little bit worried. Okay, when Pike said you
- 43:59were born for this, Erica, are we gonna lose her? Yep?
- 44:04I thought about that. Yep, because it's I hope not because she's I
- 44:10don't know why, but she's really grown on me. Yeah yeah this season,
- 44:15So I hope, I hope we don't lose her. But hearing that
- 44:19got me worried. I don't want to lose any of this crew except for
- 44:23except for Sam Kirk. You can go, please she honestly, honestly though
- 44:32honestly, I hate to admit this, but she's actually grown on me a
- 44:37little too. She's she's a fun, weird, little odd comic relief at
- 44:42the at the wrong moment sometimes other times it's okay, I uh yeah,
- 44:47I think she's all right. She's not as bad as when it started.
- 44:50When it started off, I was like, what the hell, I don't
- 44:53know. The last three or four episodes, Uh yeah, she's okay,
- 44:57she's okay. I I hate to see her go yeah, but she will
- 45:01will. Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I have two more things
- 45:06on my list that just kind of didn't make sense or didn't make sense to
- 45:10me. Okay, Spock says, placing rockets is a nearly impossible task.
- 45:16No human can do it, but I can. Why Why is it impossible
- 45:22for for for a human to put on a space suit? And yeah,
- 45:30and I'm good. I know. I know that they needed it to be
- 45:32him right so that she can see him through the window and you know,
- 45:37their love full pull them together in space or whatever. I know, I
- 45:43know that's what they wanted. But it just seemed real lazy to just say
- 45:47I'm the only one who can do it, and here's and here's why they
- 45:52had it would have been something else. Oh no, and this is this
- 45:54is the stupid part of this is a really bad writing in this particular case,
- 45:59because all I really had to say was Spock was like, I will
- 46:01do it. And if anybody starts to speak, he'll just look at him
- 46:04and say I will do it. Anybody else tries to sit and he'll just
- 46:07cut him off. I will do it. And he'll just get it.
- 46:08He should just get up and walk out the door and just go do it.
- 46:12Yeah, and there's the real one. Number one turns to someone and
- 46:15says he needs to do this. Yeah, you just need to do it.
- 46:16Let's say. So, that's it. It's so simple. It's so
- 46:20simple. You know. Actually, actually he needs to do it because he
- 46:24wants to do it, but he also wants to look for her while he's
- 46:28there. That's the perfect that's the perfect reason to put him over there.
- 46:32It is, it is. Gentry makes a good point. They needed precise
- 46:36locations like the rockets. That's the only thing I could come up with as
- 46:39far as why only a Vulcan could do it, because he has to go
- 46:43over there, make some sort of mathematical judgment, figure out the exact placement,
- 46:47wait displacement, and he has to do some of those calculations in his
- 46:51head. That's the only but but they didn't even bring that, like if
- 46:54if, even if they would have modified that as part of his little speech,
- 47:00that would have made it a little better. But no, all they
- 47:02really had to say was he would All he had to do was just stand
- 47:06up and say I will do it and walk out the freaking door, like,
- 47:07Mike Drop, I don't even talk to me. I'm doing it right.
- 47:12So the other thing that didn't make sense is they can't scan for life
- 47:17signs on the saucer section, but they're willing to just push it into the
- 47:22planet. Yep, And no one objected to that. Yeah, yeah,
- 47:28I don't understand that at all. That was a weird moment. Well,
- 47:30there's lots of weird moments in this episode, but that was one of the
- 47:32weirdest ones. Whereas at that moment, Spock should be pissed off, like
- 47:37you're gonna kill Chapel, Like that's because that's his only motivation at this point.
- 47:42There needed to be something where they figure out a way to connect to
- 47:49the internal sensors on the saucer section and use those sensors to look for life
- 47:54signs, and they can't and they can't find any, and that's why they're
- 48:00like, Okay, there's nobody alive over there. We're gonna push this thing
- 48:02into the planet. But the reason, the reason that they can't detect Chapel
- 48:08is because she put herself in the MRI machine to to hide from the Gorner
- 48:15whatever. I don't know, they needed something, They needed something, and
- 48:20they just didn't do it. They kind of glazed over and it didn't make
- 48:22sense. And I think I think they're worse off for it, but very
- 48:27much so. And then when they get to the planet, they know it's
- 48:30a highly unstable feet you know, it's an area they're going into where there
- 48:37it's very hostile, right, It's gonna be a very very hostile area.
- 48:40So they get all weaponed up, they get all suited up, and they
- 48:44turn on every fucking flashlight they have, both on their shoulders, their guns,
- 48:47everything, they're the devices, all of it. They just turn on
- 48:51everything and they start and they start scanning and pinging and just hey, everybody,
- 48:53we're over here. Like, I don't understand to a species they know
- 49:00at this point. All they do know is that this species communicates with light.
- 49:04So let's just use all the lights we can use. Like, this
- 49:07is such a ridiculous gloss over thing that they did because they're walking around.
- 49:15Yeah, yeah, come at me, bro, But they should have turned
- 49:20all the lights off, they should have turned all the devices off, and
- 49:22they should have walked in stealth. And then as far as it being black
- 49:25and hard to see, and yet yet then skip that part. Have them
- 49:30just all of a sudden be inside of a building somewhere, sitting down and
- 49:32crouching down and have some you know, red shirt guy say, I can't
- 49:37believe we did all of that all that way in the dark, like being
- 49:42like the species does communicate with light, you know, you know, just
- 49:45a funny comic moment there, Yeah, night vision something. I mean it
- 49:47is, they do have advanced tech. I mean, come on, guys.
- 49:51Yeah, so before we get to feedback, Scotty, Yes, I
- 49:59was saving that for last Yeah, looks good for Scotty, he does.
- 50:05He looks good for a young Scotti. Sounds right and also comes off as
- 50:10is definitely able to mcgiver his way out of anything. So I like,
- 50:14I liked it. I thought it was great. Now. I hope he's
- 50:17here again for season three as a mainstay. At this point, I'm sure
- 50:23he will be. Yeah. Yeah, so I liked him. I think
- 50:30I think he looks good. Yeah. I think he reminds me of James
- 50:35Stuhan. Some of his speech and his mannerisms remind me of Simon Peg.
- 50:43Yeah, a little bit, but it's but it's like he took Simon Peg
- 50:46and let's let's turn him down to like a six. Yeah, and I
- 50:52think that was a good I think that was a good move. I liked
- 50:58I liked Simon Peg in that role, but I think he was turned up
- 51:01to eleven every time he opened his mouth, and it was it was a
- 51:07little too much at times. He was almost a caricature of Scottie. And
- 51:14yeah, I'm excited to see where this guy goes. I can't wait till
- 51:16how he meets his little buddy in Strange New Worlds. Well, that guy
- 51:22is from the other the alternate timeline, but yeah, yeah, but you
- 51:23can bring him in. That guy was great. Yeah, yeah, get
- 51:28down from that. To me, like they very clearly went, well,
- 51:32we need a Chewbacca, but we want him to be small. Yeah.
- 51:38Yeah, So what do you think is gonna happen? How's the cliffhanger resolved?
- 51:45Let's do that. M hm. He's gonna pull He's gonna he's gonna
- 51:54pull out, He's gonna pull out of there. I still think Betil dies
- 51:59for yeah, and I think her death is would freeze the rest of them
- 52:02sometimes. Yeah, I'm just gonna die. Heroes death, Yeah, m
- 52:08hmm, I don't know, do you think we'll have peace between the Gorn
- 52:15after all this or will it just be more. I don't think we'll have
- 52:21peace. I don't think they'll do a Yeah, I don't think they'll do
- 52:27a full blown war with the Gorn kind of thing. No, I don't
- 52:30think that. But I think they'll be still left a lingering threat who's maybe
- 52:34been injured in some way. I also think it's funny that, you know,
- 52:43another season no Sibak. Yeah, you're right, you're right. We
- 52:50may never see him, you know. I really think it was one of
- 52:53those things. Put it in. Let's see if the Internet likes it.
- 52:55Oh, they didn't care, Okay, never again. Yeah, but that's
- 53:00just it. It'd be funny if they did. Yeah. Do you think
- 53:02we'll see to bring again like in the whole series? Ever? Probably?
- 53:07I mean in theory you should. We shouldn't. Well, we have to
- 53:10because there's still betrothed to each other by the times. Yeah, that's right,
- 53:15but they can just handle that in t OS and leave it. Leave
- 53:17it out of this well. And one of the producers was saying, is
- 53:21they're they're hoping to go to twenty episode seasons. So if they do that,
- 53:27really geez, really, I think he's just excited and yeah, I
- 53:30don't see that. I don't really happening. But yeah, would love that
- 53:35that's closer to the old model. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'd love
- 53:39it too, But I just don't. I just don't think that's feasible for
- 53:42them financially with hither at right now, I think we're gonna come full circle.
- 53:45I think I think twenty twenty five, they're gonna announce all right,
- 53:50we got this crazy idea. We're putting this on broadcast televisions for free,
- 53:59because you know, everything old is new again. M hm, Well,
- 54:06Una can't die, Bronson, that's the funny thing about that. Una can't
- 54:09die, but tell us most certainly can Terrivil episodes hurt less when there's twenty
- 54:15of them. Yeah, there's more bad episodes, Yeah, because there's more
- 54:21things to write and someone else did make. This season has way way more
- 54:25highs and way more lows. It was way less consistent from last season.
- 54:30That's true. I agree with that. I think there's probably only one or
- 54:31two dads from last season. This season was like a half and half.
- 54:36Yeah, well if if if you like the musical episode this season, when
- 54:40there's twenty episodes, You're gonna get one every season. I really wanted to
- 54:45hate that episode. I went into that episode. I went into that episode
- 54:50just I am gonna hate this. I am just I can't stand music goals.
- 54:54I just I just I want I put it off and put it off
- 54:58and put it off. I did not want to watch it. I almost
- 55:00just skipped it, and then I watched it. I actually watched the podcast
- 55:07first before I watched the episode, and your guys opening reactions made me stop
- 55:10the podcast and then go watch the episode, because okay, okay, you're
- 55:15right. That first song at the very beginning, when they very first sing
- 55:19for the first time, man, that's excellent. The way they pulled that
- 55:22off was so good. And I can't stand musicals, but I mean,
- 55:27but but that that was so good. I really enjoyed that. And there
- 55:30are times when they do the back to back it's kind of like, okay,
- 55:34this is too much, too much, too much. But when the
- 55:37Klingons did their K pop thing, oh my god, I laughed so hard.
- 55:42I probably watched that like six times. It was just hilarious. There
- 55:45are parts of it that were painful, but man, those two right there
- 55:49were just worth the whole thing. It was so good. So all of
- 55:52those songs are up on YouTube. Yeah, like sing along where the where
- 55:59the the lyrics come up on the screen. And I'm gonna make a confession.
- 56:04Oh, he's memorized one of them. I wore these last week while
- 56:12I was mowing the lawn. Was mowing the lawn, and you know,
- 56:17when you're mowing the lawn, you could sing along to yourself and nobody can
- 56:21hear you because the lawn mower was going. But yeah, I was listening
- 56:24to Star Trek the musical while I was mowing the lawn last week. So
- 56:29whatever, Yeah, mostly the first one and the last one. Yeah,
- 56:34mostly, he says that. Yeah, no, I listened. I listened
- 56:37to all of them, but Jazz listened to. Sorry, that's awesome and
- 56:49I really enjoyed it. So yeah, I didn't want to. I didn't
- 56:52expect to, but I did. I didn't want to either. I didn't
- 56:53expect to, but I did. I did enjoy it. All right,
- 56:57very cool, All all right, Well, let's let's get to feedback then,
- 57:01Yeah, feedback. Hey, hey, hey, I missed that and
- 57:14miss all this. I gotta see if we have any boy smails you go
- 57:21ahead and do your thing. All I do have one. We got a
- 57:23pack liad review. I don't know if you saw this, Chad, but
- 57:27we we've found a way to alter them, oh and make them a little
- 57:30more visual. So let's get to our pack lid review. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 57:37Welcome to the new and improved pack lead review special. Thanks to host,
- 57:44producer and heart of track cast Daniel Reyes and now star Trek Strange,
- 57:53New Worlds Season two finale Hedgem and had John had had Him? Episode ten
- 58:04a pac led review. Scotti's here. He makes the ship go. Thanks
- 58:15for listening to a pac led review. That's amazing. You're smart. He
- 58:24makes the ship go talking baseball. I don't know, I don't know.
- 58:30That's pretty good though. All he's missing is the uh well, what was
- 58:36there was the team name on DS nine when they had then the Niners?
- 58:39Yeah, I was thinking it was nine something Niners sixty nine. If you
- 58:44send me voicemails in the future, I can do that ahead of time,
- 58:47Okay, all the voicemails can be little figures and yeah, well this voicemail
- 58:52I got at seven forty six last night, so I'm nice. I'll play
- 59:00it now. Okay, Hey Chad, it's it's strong Beard. Listen.
- 59:07There's there's no easy way to say this, so I'm I'm gonna have to
- 59:15drop you as a producer of the pack Fled review. Listen. I'm sorry.
- 59:22It's it's just that I found somebody else that just knows how to give
- 59:28a better quality recording to the show. And you know, it's it's not
- 59:34your fault, you know, And and I'm still gonna, you know,
- 59:37listen to your host, you know, from time to time. But you
- 59:44know, I'm sorry I had to end this way, and I'm sorry I
- 59:46had to tell you over voicemail. But yeah, sorry, man, you
- 59:51and I are are done. I listen to the best of lust in all
- 59:54your endeavors, and hopefully we'll be on the pod. You know what's great
- 1:00:00about that? I had no idea what he was gonna say. That was
- 1:00:04a perfect I never listened to these things ahead of time. That was it
- 1:00:08puts the lotion on it. Damn. Oh man, that was so good.
- 1:00:19The only other voicemail I got was your what did it say? Your
- 1:00:23order was dropped off? Yeah, never mind, that was nice. Well,
- 1:00:29I'm glad you got your door to I did. Oh boy, I
- 1:00:32don't think we got oh we got no, we got nothing else. We
- 1:00:35got nothing else. That's it all right, Well, we got Jasmind weighting
- 1:00:38on the line, so let's bring him on there he is. How's everybody
- 1:00:45doing? Good man right behind him? Yep, yep, yeah from the
- 1:00:50board, they're coming. So I thought we established that was the Ferengi thing
- 1:00:54that control Jean Luke's mind. It's whatever you wanted to be. It could
- 1:00:59be. I think it is. Actually there's a little guy inside there riding
- 1:01:02a motorcycle. Yeah, it's a little Hamster motorcycle. Little guy Joe on
- 1:01:08a motorcycle. And there you go. You friction from its with lights up
- 1:01:12the room. Yeah, I got nothing from Tim. Where is our British
- 1:01:19guy? Yeah? Where is Tim? Yeah? Where is Yeah? We're
- 1:01:23maybe the musical episode blew up his mind. Yeah, maybe he's he's on
- 1:01:29strike because I wasn't here. That's what it is. That's right now,
- 1:01:32Chad, watch out because strong birds coming for you. Yeah, he's coming
- 1:01:38for you because he's drink this well, he's he wants to change the podcast
- 1:01:46to DS mine and bring in me and Gentry and we could be the miners
- 1:01:54and where mining mining station. I think it's been a long time since anybody
- 1:02:00you guys have been miners. Miners. We'll just have to keep Sam Kirk
- 1:02:07away from you. Yeah, so the mining crew is coming for you.
- 1:02:14So what do you think of the episode? Jabin? I liked it.
- 1:02:15I really like it. It was it was a good cliffhanger ending. I
- 1:02:20liked it. I was like, because I paused the show when I was
- 1:02:23like, there's only three minutes left, what's gonna happen? Like all this
- 1:02:27stuff's going on, I was like, Oh no, it's a to be
- 1:02:30continued, and now we gotta wait till twenty twenty six when it comes out.
- 1:02:36Yeah, you're twenty thirty five whenever it comes out, and it gonna
- 1:02:43be the it's gonna be the twenty third century before they resolved this the thing.
- 1:02:46And then when they slashed the budget and fire all the actors that they
- 1:02:50didn't like or whatever, everybody will be replaced and I'll have cardboards, new
- 1:02:54actors for everybody. Yeah, I'll be like the old Doctor Who and everybody
- 1:03:00has like a cardboard and that way has armor or anything. Yeah, but
- 1:03:07you can see the budget was kind of slashed for this planet, because when
- 1:03:12you went on the planet, you're like, really, you went to Guthrie,
- 1:03:15Oklahoma, and you you made a town. You gotta save that money
- 1:03:23for that cg with that. No, they didn't have to go anywhere.
- 1:03:27They just dialed up Hallmark and said, can we use one of your sets?
- 1:03:30Yeah, yes, I mean it. There's a few towns around here
- 1:03:35that look exactly like that town. Oh yeah, there's yeah, a ton
- 1:03:38of them. But I guess it makes sense because they're there. It's the
- 1:03:43undiscovered country. They're colonizing the planet, and now you gotta deal with the
- 1:03:47natives and sometimes that happens so and want to eat you either way. Yeah,
- 1:03:54I mean you think about it like that happened here. So we did
- 1:04:00the same thing, same thing with the Marquis. Yeah, same thing with
- 1:04:03the Maquis. You had an issue with them, just go had to deal
- 1:04:06with the monkeys and Ellington or whatever Eddington, and you know, it was
- 1:04:12just one of those things. Is they're trying to expand uh was it not
- 1:04:18star Fleet but the Federation? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, And so what
- 1:04:25do you think will happen after the cliffhanger? Like how do they resolve this
- 1:04:28thing. Well, I think Ptel's gonna die. Okay, there's no way
- 1:04:31they could say we're because we all know what happens to Pike ends up on
- 1:04:35the planet blah blah blah. Right, he ends up with the one lady.
- 1:04:40So Ptel's gonna die. And I want to know where is m Benga
- 1:04:46because why aren't you talking to your doctor about helping Betel? Oh he got
- 1:04:54he got beamed up with with the born. Oh so he got beamed up
- 1:04:58with the he's with the go Yeah, because I was thinking they could to
- 1:05:03put her in the not the transporter. What does the Embanga do when he
- 1:05:10throws them in the buff but yeah, yeah, they make that. They
- 1:05:15just quick to see what's going on. They put her because they get throw
- 1:05:17her in the buffer savor. That way, they could possibly do that until
- 1:05:24they could figure out how to get the eggs out of her extracted without Yeah,
- 1:05:28but they got they gotta have some sort of time to look at it
- 1:05:30and study it before they do that. So there's other medical besides Embanga,
- 1:05:38and there's Chapel on this ship. Yeah ship, Well we've seen them.
- 1:05:43Well, yeah, because you have different shifts, you can't just be doctor
- 1:05:45I mean, there's also a colony there. There's got to be doctors on
- 1:05:49that colony. You don't start a colony and not have any medical uh staff
- 1:05:56to go down and give them innoculations. I had another thought. Even if
- 1:06:02she does survive, their relationship is over because you know, she basically told
- 1:06:11him, you're an idiot. You you made bad tactical decisions because we're involved,
- 1:06:19and that can't happen again. So she could survive and they break up
- 1:06:24because of this, Yeah, yeah, that's true. Well he did get
- 1:06:30a nurse Chapel a bigger hug than he did her, so well, I
- 1:06:36mean, and Admiral April's like Avereral. April's like, I don't want this
- 1:06:42to color your judgment, and he's like, it won't. It absolutely will,
- 1:06:45but it absolutely will. I sell you won't. And I'm a turno
- 1:06:48right around. I'm gonna get my woman. How many times they defied orders
- 1:06:53this season? Admiral April's like, what's the point of being an admiral anymore?
- 1:06:59That he's like anyone listening to me, anyone at all? As the
- 1:07:05absolute worst. Yeah, the upper admirals are like, Bob, what is
- 1:07:13it you do around here? Yeah. Yeah, Well at that point you
- 1:07:18think you catch on and be like, Okay, I want them to do
- 1:07:21this, which means they'll do that. So I'm gonna go ahead and just
- 1:07:24tell them to do that so that they just go and do this. I
- 1:07:27mean, it's really that easy. My uncle for family barbecues, we always
- 1:07:30know he's gonna be late, so we tell him that it's going to start
- 1:07:33an hour before we actually wanted to start late. Anyways. Yeah, that's
- 1:07:40what family does to me. Then I caught on. I'm like, hey,
- 1:07:43it really starts at this time, so we could go a little late.
- 1:07:46Ye, just do like I do and just not show up with the
- 1:07:50family at all. Wow, we do have a lot of people waiting on
- 1:07:57the line, so we should Yeah, which as anything else you want to
- 1:08:00say before we get well, it's gonna suck because we have the strike and
- 1:08:03it's gonna take way too much time. Yeah, it's gonna be a long
- 1:08:06time. It's gonna be a long time, and then you know, I
- 1:08:11guess we're gonna have to look forward to Discovery next. It's such a shame
- 1:08:15that we're gonna make Star Trek four. Also, yeah, yeah, really
- 1:08:21weird. It was by the time to make the next Star Trek. They're
- 1:08:24gonna be as old as yeah, next generation and all them in the movies
- 1:08:30like we'll just bring We'll just bring shot in her back. It's fine.
- 1:08:34They're all gonna be gray headed and old and you're like, wow, what
- 1:08:38happened? And yeah, it's like pretty much scrap all that. They they're
- 1:08:42gonna have to move forward and reboot. Yeah, or like the Star Trek
- 1:08:47generations, I'm ready for the next, like let's get out of this timeline
- 1:08:53and let's move Yeah, they need to reboot as generation or it's the next
- 1:08:57the next Expendals movie. Yeah. Yeah, and and next season. I
- 1:09:03want to see aliens. I want to see Strange New World Yeah, I
- 1:09:13want to I have more more than one alien, like name the Aliens that
- 1:09:17Discovery Voyager or Strange New Worlds Lower Decks and Discovery like all them. Nobody's
- 1:09:28at it anything in card Yeah, like have you seen a Sprange New World?
- 1:09:34Keen? Name a new alien besides Seris race, the Kelpians m hm,
- 1:09:43Discovery. Yeah, I barely I barely watched this, yeah, exactly.
- 1:09:48The only I remembers the moths people. It's like, oh that's kind
- 1:09:51of unique and then they jump damine and important. But I don't want to
- 1:09:56see exploration. I almost see the human condition and in alien Yeah I missed
- 1:10:00that. Yeah, agreeable, Thanks jests viz. Okay, I'll see next
- 1:10:06to you guys. Sorry, yeah, that's what we have, huh and
- 1:10:14we'll just like see you guys. And we got more. We got more.
- 1:10:19We got in gorn shirt. Yeah. Yeah, Tel's gonna go bat
- 1:10:28bye bye. What do you think? Well, first of us, I
- 1:10:41was thrown off by the cliffhanger. I wasn't expecting a cliffanger at all.
- 1:10:45Yeah, but you know, it just brings me back to the best of
- 1:10:50best of both worlds. Yeah, best of both worlds era where oh crap,
- 1:10:57they got the card? What do we do now? And like a
- 1:11:00similar thing. Yeah, I like what they did with Scotty. I was
- 1:11:09kind of pissed because I didn't get a chance to watch it till last night
- 1:11:12since I was out of town and I was scanning through Facebook and it was
- 1:11:15like this one of those video articles. I just had a picture and they
- 1:11:18mentioned something engineering and like, crap, Yeah it wasn't Yeah, it wasn't
- 1:11:27even mentioning it everything. But you kind of know a guy in a red
- 1:11:29shirt. Yeah, you kind of know that with Scotty when they said engineer.
- 1:11:33So but I was happy. I think I think they did a great
- 1:11:35job. Yeah, I'm excited to see where it goes because we all thought
- 1:11:42he was on the Enterprise because of that one. Was it season one where
- 1:11:46you could hear a Scottish voice? Yeah, but they kind of give him
- 1:11:51a different backstory. It feels like, yeah, different and all that.
- 1:11:56But yeah, the way he engineered his way out and got away, I
- 1:12:00thought that was pretty cool. It just seemed very Scotty to me, something
- 1:12:03he would do, and it kind of very much shadows, yeah, what
- 1:12:08he does in the Delan Donohan. Yep. When Yeah, so I don't
- 1:12:14know, maybe this is where he learns how the pattern buffer a technology or
- 1:12:18a technique that only in Benga shares it. Yeah. So yeah, so
- 1:12:24he's a liar, is what you're saying. He makes out it was his
- 1:12:28idea. Yeah. Well, either that or the point point zero zero one
- 1:12:32percent of his pattern that degraded is the part that remembered where he learned to
- 1:12:36do that. There you go, what what he did he did extend it
- 1:12:42from maybe what couple a year or two or so many months too, like
- 1:12:45what seventy something years or something. So I think that was his real trick
- 1:12:50that they that he did without degradation. So I think that was who Still
- 1:12:55he still has that genius that I give him credit for. Yeah, people
- 1:13:00lasted that long, but yeah, I'm gonna be bored for the next couple
- 1:13:03of years years. Yeah, we got lower decks coming up. Yeah,
- 1:13:11followed by finally being done with Discovery. So each one of those episodes that
- 1:13:15we cover is gonna be kind of like fun from the from the idea that
- 1:13:19this is almost the last one. Too horrible that that, and you know
- 1:13:27if every other episode I let Scott or Gentry fill in for me. I
- 1:13:30mean, yeah, Heylan, that's a great plan. There you go.
- 1:13:38You guys can go take your vacations. You know, let the alpha shift
- 1:13:42or beta shift to take over. There you go be shift, Let the
- 1:13:46fourth let the fourth shift or whatever was third you know, fourth shift in
- 1:13:51fourth shift, rotation delta delta shift. Yeah, I just want to get
- 1:13:58some closure on this go at this point, I don't expect much if I
- 1:14:02just hope that whatever quests they're going on isn't going to be something where it's
- 1:14:09the end of the universe. If they don't succeed, it would be better
- 1:14:12off if they just left it as you know what, let's just go in
- 1:14:15the in the name of science or archaeology. We want to find this artifact
- 1:14:19has already say they've already the other end of the universe thing. Yeah,
- 1:14:27I mean, they just can't help themselves. Every season has to be that
- 1:14:32you're like this, like, come on, it's gonna be the end of
- 1:14:35instead of them someone's coming in and saying it's gonna be the end of the
- 1:14:39universitys you note, it's gonna be it's gonna be the end of the museum.
- 1:14:41If if we don't just gonna someone clips in and changes the word,
- 1:14:45well, you know what they might do because of the strike. They say,
- 1:14:48Hey, you know, we got ten episodes, they're about an hour
- 1:14:50long each. How about how about we break them up into twenty half hour
- 1:14:56episodes that we can stretch this out longer for for another you know, just
- 1:14:59to feel in the gap. Please don't just just rip the band aid off
- 1:15:05and release them all at once, drop them all at once, the hole
- 1:15:11on one episode and move on. I'm just hoping for Prodigy instead. So
- 1:15:17yeah, we don't have any updates on Prodigy. There they're trying to see
- 1:15:23the doctor back. Yeah, I know, I know, all right man,
- 1:15:30anyway, anything else you want to bring up? Yep, just excited
- 1:15:33for lower tech. So we'll see you guys in a couple of weeks.
- 1:15:44We should perfect the cling on pop thing though, for like a convention or
- 1:15:49something. Somebody at the next STLV there will be the cling on pop.
- 1:15:54Somebody's gonna be somebody's gonna dress up so good, it's so good, it's
- 1:15:57gonna happen. Yep, alright, right, thanks, thanks, uh yeah,
- 1:16:02thanks man. And then we got our last one waiting on the line,
- 1:16:05hipster Spock, so let's bring him on. Yeah buddy, Oh he's
- 1:16:12outside. Look at that. Look at those glasses competing with Dan. Okay,
- 1:16:17guys, can you hear me? Yeah, okay, I'm outside,
- 1:16:23I'm in. I went up these squares here in Poland, and let me
- 1:16:27just show you some of these sites. Is there what there's no gourd over
- 1:16:33there is there now at any moment? Yeah? Yeah, so this is
- 1:16:42so Yeah. I just wanted to pop in and say hello and everything.
- 1:16:45Yeah, thanks, and yeah, one question, like, Okay, you
- 1:16:51said that, you mentioned that there was gonna be like a twenty episode thing,
- 1:16:57and I really like that idea. Now, would you rather have twenty
- 1:17:01episodes of like one thing like Strange New Worlds or a bunch of different shows
- 1:17:09with ten episode teach M. I would like to go deeper into these characters.
- 1:17:18I would you know, you think back to Deep Space nine, and
- 1:17:21you think back to TNG and you think about Voyager. You know there was
- 1:17:26oh, okay, this is a Jordy episode or the eight the A story
- 1:17:30is a story about Jordy, and then the B, the B and C
- 1:17:33story or just the regular goings on on the ship. You know, I
- 1:17:39would like to see I would like to see an Eric or take a story
- 1:17:44where you know, yeah, that would be great. She goes home on
- 1:17:47she goes home on leave. Yeah, it's a story about her and you
- 1:17:51know, come to find out her dad was in Starfleet and he was a
- 1:17:55pilot too, and you know, whatever relationship they have and drama that's going
- 1:18:00on between the two of them, and yeah, the Beast story is we
- 1:18:03cut back to what's going on on the ship when someone else is flying the
- 1:18:06ship. This week, you know when you have ten episode season, you
- 1:18:10know, I feel like you don't get stuff like that. That's true.
- 1:18:13No, right, so I'm all four. I am all for the twenty
- 1:18:17episode seasons again, absolutely yep. But you only get one one series at
- 1:18:24a time though, like okay, maybe one series a season I mean a
- 1:18:28year, rather than like two or three different shows that that that might be
- 1:18:34the caveat because it costs so much. Yeah, I don't know, free
- 1:18:41I mean, how many law and orders do they have at a time?
- 1:18:44How many ncis is do you have at a time? Those are so much
- 1:18:47cheaper to produce and so much faster to produce. That's true too. But
- 1:18:53will you do You could produce it, right, you could do like what
- 1:18:57Hulu does? You air it on broadcast TV? You know that's where it
- 1:19:00premiers the next day's streaming, so you can have the streaming if you want.
- 1:19:06And that's it. Yeah. So so here's the thing, Chad,
- 1:19:12Erica Ortega's back on Earth visiting her parents doesn't cost anything to produce. And
- 1:19:18when you have when you have episodes like that that are character driven rather than
- 1:19:24special effects driven, you can actually bring your costs down by doing that.
- 1:19:29If you if you make us care about these characters and then give us stories
- 1:19:31about these characters, not the technology that they're using, it's not as expensive.
- 1:19:38You know, bottle episodes. Some of the best TNNG episodes are bottle
- 1:19:42episodes where they just use the sets that they have. That's true. I'm
- 1:19:47all for that. Yeah, yeah, Like I think like twenty episode things
- 1:19:58like Okay, if you have very musical episode, or if you have an
- 1:20:01episode that was just off, it's just a small percentage and everything else,
- 1:20:06like you know, spackles that over and you know, no harm, no
- 1:20:12foul. Right, But then if you have ten episodes and you have like
- 1:20:15one or two or three episodes where it's bad, then that's a big chunk
- 1:20:20of the season, right yeah, yeah, and your whole season's ruined basically.
- 1:20:30Yeah. Yeah. So what do you think will happen in uh,
- 1:20:38how do they resolve the cliffhanger? Well, it's gonna happen in the first
- 1:20:44ten minutes of the next episode anyway, because that's how they always do it,
- 1:20:50right, Like I might decide, okay, fuck it, let's uh
- 1:21:02my lot the curse on here, go for it. But Pike might might
- 1:21:10just say, oh fuck it, let's just blast them all right, yeah,
- 1:21:13and and then or they might just high tell it out of there and
- 1:21:17then get get the cavalry and then go back to the planet to try to
- 1:21:25save the save the people on the corn ships and then the planet and all
- 1:21:30that stuff, and then and then with the Battel. Yeah, sorry,
- 1:21:34sorry for a plane, but I think you're gonna die, because yeah,
- 1:21:43he's gonna because if if Battel had, you know, been alive, they
- 1:21:49would have said something about it on the managerie or something, right, and
- 1:21:55he wouldn't be he wouldn't be going back to tell us to uh Raina that
- 1:22:01the blonde girl, right. Yeah, So yeah, I don't think Pattel's
- 1:22:09gonna survived. And I mean she's had there was a a post on it
- 1:22:15on the trek thing where she's had a bad time with a bottle of ketchup
- 1:22:23and yeah that's pretty Yeah, there's a there's a picture with with the lady
- 1:22:31who played patl and she's got all types of red stuff on her and you
- 1:22:38know, it's like ketchup on her and it's like and that's kind of like
- 1:22:43saying, oh, yeah, she's in big trouble. Okay, Okay,
- 1:22:51yeah. But one last thing, like when they talked about bringing down the
- 1:22:57force field or whatever, I got like returned up the Jedi vibes on that.
- 1:23:03You know, it's like like the planet is and or or something.
- 1:23:08Yeah, yeah, that's funny. I can't wait. You wants to come
- 1:23:14out and celebrate when they beat them. I hope they played the Yup yup
- 1:23:18song. There you go. They better you don't pike those words. That's
- 1:23:27the next musical. That is the next musical. Yes, all right,
- 1:23:31guys. Thanks, Hopefully we don't have to wait that long, but you
- 1:23:35know, I'm I'm not very optimistic, but talk to you later. Thanks.
- 1:23:44Thanks, all right. We did have one question from Duval who asked
- 1:23:50us what do we think the Gorn was trying to, you know, trying
- 1:23:55to get the command codes for But we kind of talked about that already,
- 1:23:59so yeah, yeah, I mean that's a speculation obviously, but I mean,
- 1:24:03from my standpoint, the only thing they'd want to get his information on
- 1:24:06locations, deployment, ship types. He wants. He wants trips, catfish
- 1:24:12recipe. Oh now, wouldn't that be hilarious if they're trying to get like
- 1:24:20real tactical data and all they can find is these people showing other people dishes
- 1:24:27like like like Instagram. That's all they get is Instagram photos. Feline supplement
- 1:24:32number. Yeah, yeah, alright it want porthos. You hush your mouth.
- 1:24:45You do not harm a hair on his head, not my special boy.
- 1:24:49Nope, all right, anything else you guys gonna bring up before we
- 1:24:57go? No, that's it. That's all I had made. Great show,
- 1:25:00Great glad to be back in the swing of it. One two weeks.
- 1:25:05I guess we're gonna have a break here. Well, yeah, we'll
- 1:25:08do it in two weeks. Not that I need a break. I'm ready
- 1:25:10to go. I'm sure. Yeah, yeah, well you know you had
- 1:25:14a break. Yeah, we'll do it in two weeks. It'll probably be
- 1:25:18the predictions because we'll go through predictions for lower Dex and there we go.
