- 0:00Speaker 1: He only got rock when she was standing by Mike
- 0:02Speaker 1: Leslie from w FAA and Dallas uh mending fences, patching
- 0:07Speaker 1: it up with Trayvon Diggs. So his tweet was, Trayvon
- 0:12Speaker 1: Diggs and I have cleared the air. He apologized for
- 0:14Speaker 1: the hallway incident, and I apologize for misleading, misreading the play.
- 0:20Speaker 1: He explained that what I interpreted as him jogging was
- 0:23Speaker 1: in fact him slow playing a potential cutback from George Kittle.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We buried the hatchet with a and there's a photo, well,
- 0:31Speaker 2: he said.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Cowboys PR informed me that the video there was a video,
- 0:35Speaker 1: violated their social media policy, so here's some pictures instead.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So there it is with the cans of D's nuts.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So they're and they're like, you know, toasting one another.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And it drew a universal, really really positive response from fans.
- 0:53Speaker 1: That's great. It's great to see there's always gonna be
- 0:56Speaker 1: one sour guy in the group that says, you go
- 0:59Speaker 1: through action you wanted, you were trolling, and he gave
- 1:03Speaker 1: you the emotional response and made you famous for twelve
- 1:05Speaker 1: minutes whatever.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Who got famous. Both are already well respected and their feel.
- 1:11Speaker 1: That's what I mean, you know, that's silly that someone
- 1:14Speaker 1: say that, Hey, on the text line, somebody said, hey,
- 1:17Speaker 1: does cat Cortes work at the actual iHeart station.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Someone needs to let her know.
- 1:22Speaker 1: In Austin, we mispronounced Manor and Elgin on purpose because
- 1:26Speaker 1: she said Manner and Elgin off of that she's not
- 1:28Speaker 1: in the building, you might imagine.
- 1:31Speaker 4: And when you.
- 1:31Speaker 3: First look at it, what does M A N O
- 1:33Speaker 3: R look like Manor?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:35Speaker 1: And E L G I N looks like Elgin the
- 1:39Speaker 1: yeah and the suburb of Chicago Elgin, Illinois.
- 1:42Speaker 2: But that's it's Elgin. There's a lot of us, as.
- 1:45Speaker 3: We know, a lot of surrounding area in the central
- 1:47Speaker 3: Austin towns that I've had to learn. The correct pronunciation
- 1:50Speaker 3: for Burnett was one of them.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what, when Dennis Franconi was a coach
- 1:54Speaker 1: of Texas A and M and he' stt when he
- 1:55Speaker 1: had Stephen McGee's his quarterback, when McGee and Jordan Shipley
- 1:58Speaker 1: were both there, he goes, it's burn it, learn it,
- 2:02Speaker 1: burn it. That's the old saying, you have to learn
- 2:04Speaker 1: burn it. Okay, did it with the other ones yetdler refe.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I don't think I've that that's one that I really
- 2:10Speaker 3: struggle pronouncing because I'm not because it looks like refuge,
- 2:13Speaker 3: oh refere you. I just can't say that the F
- 2:15Speaker 3: and you do, you.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Will replace the G with an rfere re few rio yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 1: refereo Yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Yeah. I still think I'm saying waxahatchie wrong. You are waksatchie, Yes,
- 2:27Speaker 3: wax a hatches. It's like w O c kau I hear.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I still hear people say wax a hatch you and
- 2:32Speaker 3: I'm like, it's not why I'm saying it wrong.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I learned that very quickly when I got wos asage.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah. And then of course they're San Marcus.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Some people say, you said Marcos.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Through Matt Berry on ESPN calling the game, it's Arizona State,
- 2:45Speaker 3: San Marcos.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's not that. It's not that.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Uh there's old town up northeast to Dallas n e
- 2:53Speaker 1: v a d a.
- 2:59Speaker 3: N e v a d A. I mean, just like
- 3:03Speaker 3: the state. We're Las Vegas, Ada, but it's pronounced what
- 3:07Speaker 3: would they I don't even know. That hurts my brain
- 3:11Speaker 3: to think about how I'll say to pronounce it. Craig,
- 3:14Speaker 3: it's there.
- 3:15Speaker 1: It's pronounced Nevada, Nevada long egg Nevada. It's it's where
- 3:19Speaker 1: there's hot.
- 3:20Speaker 3: We're going to Nevada this weekend, Craigs.
- 3:23Speaker 1: No, we're going to Nevada this weekend, by the way,
- 3:26Speaker 1: And that is how the locals out there pronounce it.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's Nevada, not Nevada. My brother and sister and all
- 3:32Speaker 1: lived there for twenty five years. They will tell you
- 3:34Speaker 1: it is Nevada. It's not Nevada.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Uh.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Up in Collin County, it's Nevada where there's a high
- 3:42Speaker 1: school called Community High School. The reason why is it
- 3:45Speaker 1: draws from four communities. One is Nevada. There's also one
- 3:49Speaker 1: called Levon by Lake Levon, Copeville, and my favorite, Josephine.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It all makes up Community High School there, all right.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Some more from Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarksin. He
- 4:04Speaker 1: was asked by our good friend Jeff, how about with
- 4:08Speaker 1: the COVID eligibility, those extra years that student athletes accrued
- 4:13Speaker 1: over time. Well, it's now finally winding down. It's on
- 4:16Speaker 1: the home stretch of that. So he was asked for
- 4:19Speaker 1: his thoughts on how it's been to get the best
- 4:21Speaker 1: football out of some players during their college career because
- 4:24Speaker 1: of the extra year and how it's benefited them and
- 4:27Speaker 1: the program he brought up to Vandre Sweat and Marvin
- 4:30Speaker 1: Over shown as examples that. David Bendon is an example
- 4:34Speaker 1: of that. Joddi Baron is an example that anybody he
- 4:36Speaker 1: was asked about what it's been like to get some
- 4:38Speaker 1: of the best football out of these guys given the
- 4:41Speaker 1: extra eligibility.
- 4:41Speaker 5: They accrued, Well, I think there's a lot of value
- 4:44Speaker 5: in that, you know, you know, development, everybody is. Everybody's
- 4:49Speaker 5: at varying stages of their own development, right and sometimes
- 4:52Speaker 5: it's physical developed development, sometimes it's mental development, sometimes it's
- 4:57Speaker 5: maturity development, and everybody's at a different stage at a
- 5:00Speaker 5: different time. And I think that that's why you're hearing
- 5:04Speaker 5: so many people now being proponents of that fifth year.
- 5:09Speaker 5: And you know why, you know, why are we trying
- 5:12Speaker 5: to minimize the red shirts when we could just rather
- 5:14Speaker 5: develop the players and if they choose to play a
- 5:16Speaker 5: fifth year, they play a fifth year. I think that's
- 5:19Speaker 5: why there's some sentiment for that and people pushing for that,
- 5:21Speaker 5: because there is a real sense of gratification as a
- 5:25Speaker 5: coach when you can see a player grow and develop,
- 5:27Speaker 5: like I said, in a multitude of phases in their lives.
- 5:31Speaker 5: You know, again, there's physical development, of course, there's understanding scheme, Yes,
- 5:35Speaker 5: there's maturity. Yes, I mean there's a lot of things
- 5:38Speaker 5: that go into the development of a young man when
- 5:41Speaker 5: we get them at eighteen years old to twenty two
- 5:43Speaker 5: to twenty three years old, and to watch them grow
- 5:46Speaker 5: and then ultimately to have some success not only on
- 5:48Speaker 5: the football field, but in the classroom and in life.
- 5:51Speaker 4: That's what this whole thing is about, you know.
- 5:53Speaker 5: And I know what we you know, we look to
- 5:55Speaker 5: wins and losses, and again that those matter. Don't get
- 5:58Speaker 5: me wrong, those matter. But you know, I have one
- 6:01Speaker 5: hundred and twenty sons on our team every year, and
- 6:03Speaker 5: to watch them grow year in and year out, and
- 6:05Speaker 5: to see a young man his freshman year to where
- 6:08Speaker 5: he is his his his senior year, whether he red
- 6:11Speaker 5: shirted or not, fourth or fifth year, you know, what
- 6:14Speaker 5: does that look like? And I do think for some players,
- 6:17Speaker 5: the more time you have, the better opportunity you have
- 6:19Speaker 5: to grow and to develop. And so I don't think
- 6:22Speaker 5: it's for everybody.
- 6:23Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 6:23Speaker 5: I'm not suggesting that, but I do think that the
- 6:26Speaker 5: ones that we have had stick around a little longer.
- 6:29Speaker 5: It is it has you know, Dean been, It's been
- 6:31Speaker 5: successful for us and for them.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Okay, And then he was asked about Jade Baron, another
- 6:35Speaker 1: one of those six year seniors, his impact deciding to
- 6:39Speaker 1: return for that sixth and final season of eligibility instead
- 6:42Speaker 1: of declaring for the NFL draft.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Well, I think that that's that's a huge component.
- 6:46Speaker 5: You know, so many guys they just want to hurry
- 6:50Speaker 5: up and get to the NFL.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Okay, but are you really ready for the NFL?
- 6:54Speaker 5: And if you're getting a fourth or fifth round grade
- 6:58Speaker 5: and then you leave early and let's say you go
- 7:01Speaker 5: on the fourth or fifth round. But yet a guy
- 7:06Speaker 5: like John a who maybe didn't get a great grade
- 7:08Speaker 5: but is playing himself up into an earlier round, that's
- 7:11Speaker 5: money that he would never be able to make back
- 7:14Speaker 5: when he gets to the NFL. And so the fact
- 7:16Speaker 5: that yes, he's making that money now and making that
- 7:19Speaker 5: money back now for himself and for his family. You know,
- 7:22Speaker 5: I know a lot of agents preach just get to
- 7:24Speaker 5: your second contract. That's true, and that's true whenever you
- 7:27Speaker 5: go to the NFL, But you can never go back
- 7:30Speaker 5: and make that money that you inevitably get drafted at
- 7:33Speaker 5: and what that rookie deal looks like. And so when
- 7:36Speaker 5: we have players that really buy into the developmental piece
- 7:39Speaker 5: and what one more year could look like for them,
- 7:42Speaker 5: I think it just really speaks volumes to for our
- 7:46Speaker 5: younger players for what it can look like. And again,
- 7:48Speaker 5: not every guy is going to decide to stay. I
- 7:50Speaker 5: understand that, but I think about an Alphad Collins or
- 7:53Speaker 5: I think about a jud A Baron, those types of
- 7:56Speaker 5: guys that, man, what a life changing decision they made
- 7:59Speaker 5: to stay in school for one more year. And naturally
- 8:03Speaker 5: with ni L and with with now down the road
- 8:06Speaker 5: revenue sharing, I think some of those decisions are a
- 8:09Speaker 5: little easier to make. But just the fact to hurry
- 8:12Speaker 5: up and get to the NFL, that sounds like a
- 8:15Speaker 5: good idea. But if you're not really ready, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 5: they'll adages NFL stands for not for long and then
- 8:21Speaker 5: and then what do you have?
- 8:22Speaker 4: And so you know, we we.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Just try to educate our guys as best we can
- 8:25Speaker 5: so that they can make, you know, sound decisions. And
- 8:29Speaker 5: I think jud A made a really sound decision. I
- 8:31Speaker 5: think it's one as he looks back in his life,
- 8:33Speaker 5: he's going to be glad that.
- 8:34Speaker 2: He made no doubt about that, all Right.
- 8:38Speaker 1: When we come back, i'll tell you the lineups are
- 8:40Speaker 1: for the World Series, and we'll wrap up today's edition
- 8:41Speaker 1: of the program on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
