- 1:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: Well, no, it's what it is, it's just sometimes it it just doesn't make any sense because we do this podcast on a little recorder, but it's records straight to disc.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: And um the disc that we'd been using just all of a sudden was saying that we didn't have any space on it, even though we uh deleted everything off it and said there's still no space, so uh we reformatted the disc.
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: Uh now it says there's plenty of space.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: So uh hopefully it doesn't stop in the middle of the of the uh Well we'll see.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.

- 2:04SPEAKER_06: Uh now we'll forget about it.
- 2:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:07SPEAKER_04: And then we'll have to go back and look at it.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: Hopefully I'll uh keep an eye on to make sure it's still running.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: And recording, and uh yeah, we'll go from there.
- 2:14SPEAKER_04: Yes.

- 3:01SPEAKER_06: Well, it it directs the sound.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.

- 3:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, 30th, 30th reunion.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: Class reunion.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: So she's coming up Friday, and all of her classmates know that we're playing at the balloon fest.

- 4:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's true.
- 4:11unknown: It's true.
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: We just do our thing and move on.

- 4:31SPEAKER_04: I can't wait to see them.
- 4:32SPEAKER_04: We had a we did a car show last year, actually last two years.
- 4:35SPEAKER_04: A couple years, yeah.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: Last couple years.
- 4:37SPEAKER_04: Uh and it's always a good turnout.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's food trucks and and uh just really kind of they're modern trucks, they're not Model Ts.
- 4:45SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 4:45SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 4:46SPEAKER_06: The Model T's are on display.
- 4:47SPEAKER_06: I don't think you can turn the Model T into a food truck.
- 4:49SPEAKER_04: I don't think so either, but I bet there is one somewhere.
- 4:52SPEAKER_04: Probably somebody tried.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm sure.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_04: Uh but yeah, so that's what's coming up next for the Star City Syndicate.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: And we don't have any more for the country band, right?
- 4:59SPEAKER_06: Not that I know of.
- 5:00SPEAKER_04: No, not that I know of.
- 5:01SPEAKER_04: And then you and I, I think are playing in October.
- 5:04SPEAKER_06: I thought at the end of September.
- 5:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: You're right.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: We're in Holton.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: Holton.
- 5:08SPEAKER_04: The end of September, and then we're at the uh I got the down under and then we're at Big Rock um at the big um Fe uh um Feed the County Fest.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: Feed the County Fest.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: Right in October.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: And then I think we have another one at in Holton too, but we'll we'll stop there.
- 5:23SPEAKER_06: We'll cross that bridge when we get.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: So we're we're busy, I guess, is what we're saying.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: And musically.
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: And and um so uh high school's back in uh for me.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: And so I've been I've been doing a couple of different things.
- 5:37SPEAKER_04: I've been teaching.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: Uh at the end of the day, I only have to go in for my seventh period class.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: But I I go in early anyway to do planning for the when the when the younger grades go in.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: Um and to get things done.
- 5:50SPEAKER_04: And uh so it's uh it's been interesting.
- 5:53SPEAKER_04: It's been interesting.
- 5:54SPEAKER_04: The uh freshman class is gonna be an interesting class this year.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 5:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:57SPEAKER_04: Uh not in a bad way or a good way, just interesting.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: Just interesting.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 6:03SPEAKER_04: Um and it's just it's just me getting back into the swing of things.
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: It's kind of uh, you know, just a weird thing.
- 6:09SPEAKER_04: No, I get that.
- 6:10SPEAKER_04: Um when do you guys go back in?
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: You go afterwards.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: Next Wednesday.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: Next Wednesday?
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: Okay, so you don't wait till Labor Day.
- 6:16unknown: No.
- 6:17SPEAKER_06: I don't know why, but that's just the way it's going.
- 6:20SPEAKER_06: Interesting.
- 6:20SPEAKER_06: I I I would think that would make more sense.
- 6:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: So those three days.
- 6:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you're gonna go three days and have a long weekend and then you know, they're not gonna have a full week till like the middle of September.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: But you know, I don't plan the schedule, so we'll leave that to Joel.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:35SPEAKER_04: So I don't know.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, so uh I'm happy.
- 6:39SPEAKER_06: Well, I mean, you gotta get a hundred and what is it, a hundred and seventy-six days?
- 6:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you do have to.
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, that's probably they don't take harvest, so they they pad it in the in the beginning of it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_06: And we didn't take any snow days last year.
- 6:52SPEAKER_06: No.
- 6:52SPEAKER_06: So I mean, it is what it is.
- 6:55SPEAKER_04: It is what it is.
- 6:57SPEAKER_04: Um, so we should probably say uh, like I said, that we we are recording this on a um Tuesday, uh which would be what the 25th?
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: Correct.
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: August 25th.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: And um something happened today that's getting a lot of news.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: And we lost a big name.
- 7:22SPEAKER_04: And people are posting about it all over the place, and we want to say rest in peace to the legend Dolly Parton.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Legendary.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 today after a uh uh undisclosed illness that she had been dealing with for I don't know how long, probably a month.
- 7:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:45SPEAKER_04: Um don't know what it is, don't care.
- 7:47SPEAKER_04: The fact is that she's gone.
- 7:50SPEAKER_04: And um she was an amazing human being.
- 7:54SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 7:55SPEAKER_04: Amazing human being.
- 7:56SPEAKER_04: A uh groundbreaker, a trendsetter, a um what else could you say about Ellen?
- 8:05SPEAKER_06: Sweater filler.
- 8:12SPEAKER_04: Yes, and she would say that.
- 8:15SPEAKER_06: I mean you can't deny it.
- 8:16SPEAKER_06: No, you can't.
- 8:17SPEAKER_06: Even Stevie Wonder knows.
- 8:19SPEAKER_06: I mean, come on.
- 8:20SPEAKER_04: Wait, no, that's gotta be the name of the podcast.
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: What?
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: Rest in peace, sweater filler.
- 8:25SPEAKER_04: Sweater filler.
- 8:26SPEAKER_04: No.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 8:30SPEAKER_04: I wanted to share.
- 8:32SPEAKER_04: She was she was always a great interviewer.
- 8:34SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 8:35SPEAKER_04: Uh watching.
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: I never got the chance to interview her, obviously, but um she always uh kind of played up her persona.
- 8:44SPEAKER_04: Meaning um Well, she was a she was a character.
- 8:49SPEAKER_04: She was she was a character, she was and she played that character well.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: Yes, she did.
- 8:53SPEAKER_04: And people used to talk about how she was uh um you know she had all this plastic surgery and blah blah blah and she did, and she admitted it and she played it up.
- 9:02SPEAKER_04: And she now correct me if she if I'm wrong, but wasn't she in Playboy like in the 70s?
- 9:08SPEAKER_06: She was.
- 9:09SPEAKER_06: I don't think she posed nude.
- 9:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't think so either.
- 9:12SPEAKER_06: But I think it was just like that inter they do that interview thing.
- 9:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 9:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah you know, the the one that the guys buy the magazine for.
- 9:19SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 9:20SPEAKER_06: Because they're dying to read the interview.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_06: And the groundbreaking articles.
- 9:27SPEAKER_06: I had some of those articles on the back of my bedroom door.
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: I think a lot of people did.
- 9:32SPEAKER_06: They were really good.
- 9:32SPEAKER_06: While you're like, hey, man, what is the USSR up to?
- 9:40SPEAKER_06: Man, they got some ICBMs for sure.
- 9:45SPEAKER_06: Now, does is that a thing anymore?
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: Is Playboy a thing anymore?
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 9:49SPEAKER_04: Do they still make it?
- 9:50SPEAKER_04: Like the magazine?
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: It's still in print.
- 9:52SPEAKER_06: I assume so.
- 9:53SPEAKER_06: I think it's gone digital, but I think it's still in print, also.
- 9:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:58SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 9:58SPEAKER_06: I mean, I think OnlyFans has taken over the whole porn thing.
- 10:01SPEAKER_04: So probably true.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:03SPEAKER_04: Um but what were we talking about?
- 10:06SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, Dolly Parton.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: Dolly Parton.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:08SPEAKER_04: So I found some of Dolly's best moments, uh, and I wanted to share uh a few of them uh because they're pretty funny.
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: She was hilarious.
- 10:17SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 10:18SPEAKER_04: Uh the first one is Gary Chapman used to host um a show on the Nashville Network after Ralph Emery, who was the longtime host for Nashville now.
- 10:28SPEAKER_04: And she was on she was on with Gary Chapman.
- 10:30SPEAKER_04: Gary Chapman is uh the ex-husband of Amy Grant.
- 10:32SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 10:33SPEAKER_04: Um and just the just the little piece is pretty great.
- 10:37SPEAKER_07: I'm good.
- 10:38SPEAKER_07: I'm very, very good.
- 10:40SPEAKER_07: Great.
- 10:40SPEAKER_07: Yep, yep.
- 10:41SPEAKER_12: And a good audience?
- 10:48SPEAKER_07: Large fun tonight.
- 10:50SPEAKER_07: Thank you, Daniel.
- 10:51SPEAKER_12: This is a lot of fun.
- 10:57SPEAKER_12: That's the new.
- 10:58SPEAKER_07: Do we do we put that with the line?
- 11:45SPEAKER_04: That's isn't that awesome?
- 11:48SPEAKER_04: Um and then so so there's that, and then I got, let's see, I'm gonna make sure I stop that.
- 11:55SPEAKER_04: Um this is a couple more here.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: Have you heard this story?
- 11:57SPEAKER_04: She's telling the story too, Jimmy Jimmy uh um Fallon.
- 12:02SPEAKER_12: I'll tell you a story.
- 12:02SPEAKER_12: Something fun that happened.
- 12:04SPEAKER_12: She got that.
- 12:04SPEAKER_12: Because uh once when I I took them up there, we were in the restaurant, and so we were having our our meal, and this old man came over to our table, and he sat down and he was just talking to us, and we were all laughing.
- 12:17SPEAKER_12: We didn't know him, and we just, you know, we were all just kind of, and then so he finally he left and we finished.
- 12:23SPEAKER_12: So I went up to pay the bill, and the the man said, Well, your grandpa uh left his bill here too.
- 12:30SPEAKER_12: I said, My grandpa.
- 12:32SPEAKER_12: So that old man had come over and kind of scammed us, and so I said, Well, that wasn't not my grandpa, but I paid it, of course.
- 12:39SPEAKER_12: So when we left, I walked down the street and he was standing there at the light.
- 12:43SPEAKER_12: And you know, we walked to the corner, and so I went over to him, I said, Hey, I would have been happy, you know, to have paid your bill.
- 12:51SPEAKER_12: You know, I said, but uh don't you tell me my grandpa?
- 12:54SPEAKER_12: And he took his walking stick and he started just beating me across the chest, I mean just as hard as he could, just wham, wham, wham, wham, wham.
- 13:03SPEAKER_12: And it hurt.
- 13:04SPEAKER_12: Oh my goodness.
- 13:06SPEAKER_12: But then what what what happened?
- 13:08SPEAKER_12: What do you mean what happened?
- 13:10SPEAKER_12: These two big lumps came up and they never did go down.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Um the question is if you could tell teenagers of America that they do one thing, would there be a place or something of support?
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: What would it be?
- 13:33SPEAKER_12: I would say act like it's raining every day, and where are you numbers?
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, one more.
- 13:43SPEAKER_04: I'll do one more.
- 13:49SPEAKER_04: Oh no, not not that this one.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna do one because this one's really short.
- 13:55SPEAKER_08: You know, that's kind of gonna look like crazy.
- 14:03SPEAKER_12: The worst dressed of all time.
- 14:05SPEAKER_12: Swear.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Are you really swearing?
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: The worst dressed of all time?
- 14:08SPEAKER_12: Yes, there it is.
- 14:10SPEAKER_12: What did he say?
- 14:14SPEAKER_12: Well, you know what?
- 14:14SPEAKER_12: It's just the way I look.
- 14:15SPEAKER_12: It's like I'm honestly half designers and somebody's a worse, they'll pay me not to say who designed my game.
- 14:31SPEAKER_12: That's all right with me.
- 14:31SPEAKER_12: I'm having a good time.
- 14:32SPEAKER_12: I bet I'm happier than that guy that wrote that.
- 14:35SPEAKER_12: And I'm glad that he came out of his closet long enough to look in my she was amazing.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: She was amazing.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: And then she said there's a whole other one.
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: I found this uh Dolly Parton's Funniest Moments compilation video on YouTube.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: So if you're interested, um, there's a whole bit where uh several interviewers asked her, you know, uh, did you like Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You?
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: And do you do you care that a lot of people think that Whitney wrote that song?
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: She's like, no, I keep cashing the checks.
- 15:11SPEAKER_04: Why would she care?
- 15:12SPEAKER_04: She's like, they can think that Whitney wrote that song.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: She made me six million dollars.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: This was like years and years ago, so it's probably made a lot more than that by now.
- 15:21SPEAKER_04: But yeah, but yeah, um uh you know, we we talk about her as a funny person and as as a person, a persona, right?
- 15:29SPEAKER_04: Um and she was a great actress.
- 15:30SPEAKER_04: She she did a number of movies.
- 15:32SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: Um, but her songwriting, uh she was uh what did I say?
- 15:37SPEAKER_04: She was a she was a trailblazer uh for not only female songwriters, but songwriters in general.
- 15:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 15:43SPEAKER_06: She had like what 49 albums?
- 15:45SPEAKER_04: 49 albums, and I dare say she wrote every song on the album.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: I I would say so, yeah.
- 15:50SPEAKER_04: Um she may have recorded you know somebody else's here and there.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: Obviously, she did like I remember she did Collective Souls.
- 15:55SPEAKER_06: Well, she did that whole rock album.
- 15:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she did.
- 15:57SPEAKER_04: But she did a version of Shine.
- 15:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: That was a like she did like bluegrass version of Shine.
- 16:02SPEAKER_04: Uh and and and she um uh made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and and refused to go in.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 16:10SPEAKER_04: Uh because she didn't think she d deserved it, and that's why she made the rock album.
- 16:14SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 16:14SPEAKER_04: Um to s to kind of try and live up to that.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: But yeah, and I had a friend of mine uh message me and and she said something to the effect of is it really is it weird, is it silly that I've been crying all day uh at listening to Dolly Parton's music?
- 16:30SPEAKER_04: And I said, No, I did the same thing when Eddie Van Halen died.
- 16:32SPEAKER_04: See, there you go.
- 16:34SPEAKER_04: I was just in a I was just in a funk for days.
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: Uh when Eddie passed away.
- 16:39SPEAKER_04: Now, I love Dolly Parton.
- 16:41SPEAKER_04: Uh everything about her.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: Um but I was not how can I say connected uh like I was with Eddie Van Halen.
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: You know, but but uh so I I I don't get as emotional when I think about Dolly, but but uh she was and I think I said this too to m to my friend.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: She was the best kind of human.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: I mean she was what we sh we all should strive to be.
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: You know, just very open hearted and and gave back and she was a philanthropist and um what did you say?
- 17:12SPEAKER_04: Somebody some somebody uh started a t-shirt, they made a t-shirt real real Yeah, this uh this veteran company, uh Nine Line.
- 17:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_06: Uh they already have a t-shirt and they're selling they're gonna start selling this t-shirt with uh it's like a guitar with angel wings that says Dolly under it, and all the profits are gonna go to the Dolly Parton Foundation.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: That's awesome.
- 17:34SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I was like I was impressed how fast they worked at that.
- 17:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:37SPEAKER_06: You know, I mean it literally happened today, and they've already got this you know, this t-shirt design up and ready to go.
- 17:43SPEAKER_04: And she did so much good work.
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:45SPEAKER_06: I mean uh well, her imagination library.
- 17:47SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 17:48SPEAKER_06: I mean, I don't know how many books at the post office I delivered.
- 17:51SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, we have a bunch of them.
- 17:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the kids put it on.
- 17:53SPEAKER_06: I mean it's huge.
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: Huge number.
- 17:55SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 17:56SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 17:56SPEAKER_04: That was uh in and of itself just an amazing, yeah, um amazing thing, amazing feat.
- 18:00SPEAKER_06: So uh and uh Trump is uh ordered the flags at half staff for the next week.
- 18:06SPEAKER_04: Deservedly so.
- 18:07SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 18:08SPEAKER_04: I mean you don't she's an icon.
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: She is an icon.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: I mean, legend.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: Legend.
- 18:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:12SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, so I I don't know what else there is to say.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: Uh well, we could play some of her music, but I think everybody's gonna be doing that.
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: Uh so we'll just say rest in peace, Dolly Parton.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: Um and she's gonna open and close the show, I think.
- 18:26SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 18:26SPEAKER_04: With uh we're gonna we'll get some drops from uh from some movies that Dolly Parton is in, and and uh she will uh open and close the show.
- 18:33SPEAKER_04: So rest in peace to what would you call her?
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: Because the queen of country music Dolly Parton You know what I mean.
- 18:40SPEAKER_04: The queen of country music is who?
- 18:41SPEAKER_04: Who do you think of when you say the queen of country music?
- 18:43SPEAKER_04: Dolly?
- 18:45SPEAKER_06: Is there another?
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 18:47SPEAKER_04: Uh because maybe Patsy Klein.
- 18:49SPEAKER_04: Patsy Klein.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: Let's see who let's see.
- 18:51SPEAKER_04: Who is the queen of country?
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: Look at this.
- 18:55SPEAKER_04: I finished my sentence.
- 18:56SPEAKER_04: Dolly Parton.
- 18:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Dolly Parton is widely recognized as the undisputed queen of country music.
- 19:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she's she's up there with Aretha.
- 19:04SPEAKER_04: I never uh never even I don't know why I didn't think of that, but yeah, I meant I was thinking Tammy Wynette or something like that.
- 19:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Dolly Parton.
- 19:11SPEAKER_06: Tammy Wynette wishes she was Dolly Parton.
- 19:13SPEAKER_06: Everybody wishes they were Dolly Parton.
- 19:15SPEAKER_06: Heck yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, we'll leave that as it is and uh I guess just kind of move on.
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: You know one thing that Dolly Parton well I was gonna say.
- 19:27SPEAKER_04: One thing that Dolly Parton wasn't uh uh was fake, but probably 70% of her was.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: Um I was talking about AI.
- 19:41SPEAKER_04: I was trying to dovetail into AI.
- 19:43SPEAKER_06: That was terrible.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: That was terrible.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: Her music wasn't fake.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: Her music wasn't fake.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: Um, but I saw I came across this uh headline.
- 19:53SPEAKER_04: A new study suggested that uh AI, artificial intelligence, was used to create nearly 40% of the music released in July of 2026.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: That's not surprising.
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: The research also raised the question of whether nearly a third of creators were lying when they said they hadn't employed AI in their songs.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: Uh the figures emerged a month after the Submit Hub platform launched its AI detection tool, SH Labs, after identifying a growing disclosure problem that leaves listeners unaware of how the material they're hearing was created.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: Now I wonder how you can do that.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: Uh how how these uh AI detectors um how do they work?
- 20:40SPEAKER_04: Because you know they have those AI detectors for like um college essays and and high school essays.
- 20:46SPEAKER_06: I'm sure it works on the same principle.
- 20:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but but if AI is is constantly regenerating info and constantly feeding itself, and uh let's say I say I want a paper on you know this topic, and they write me a paper on that topic.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: Okay and my I give it to my teacher, and my teacher submits it into this AI, you know, uh detector.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: How does it know that it wasn't written by a human?
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I I guess I don't know how that works.
- 21:27SPEAKER_06: Because it'll tell you, you know Well, neither of us are computer programs.
- 21:30SPEAKER_04: Forty percent of this is generated by AI.
- 21:33SPEAKER_04: Okay, well, what forty percent?
- 21:35SPEAKER_04: I mean, how how how do we know that?
- 21:36SPEAKER_04: Because AI is constantly regenerating itself.
- 21:39SPEAKER_04: So the information could be different.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: So I don't yeah, I don't know.
- 21:44SPEAKER_06: That's a question for smarter people.
- 21:46SPEAKER_04: Apparently.
- 21:47SPEAKER_04: But the um now they've made one that detects whether a a song is AI.
- 21:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_04: Um now I don't know if that means they can detect whether the instruments are played.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Played by the computer.
- 22:02SPEAKER_04: Um, or if the the lyrics that are sung are written by AI.
- 22:08SPEAKER_04: I mean, I don't know how that works, but um it's interestingly, interestingly uh let's see, of those 23.2% were found to be entirely AI generated, with an additional 15.3% containing AI elements which had been modified by humans.
- 22:27SPEAKER_04: I saw an interview with the actor Jeff Bridges, and he took a lot of heat because in this interview he said uh that all of the songwriters in Nashville are using AI.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: Don't let them tell you they're not, because they are.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: Meaning if they have they they'll feed an idea into AI, AI will feed them lyrics, and they'll use parts of the lyrics for their song.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: I never thought of this.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: I'll I'll take that and I'll put it in my song, or I'll take that and I'll put it in my song.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: And it just helps to speed the process.
- 23:03SPEAKER_04: Um but apparently Nashville songwriters were ticked that he said that.
- 23:06SPEAKER_06: Well, how does Jeff Bridges even know?
- 23:08SPEAKER_04: Well, he does, I th he I think he is in that circle because he's a guitar he's a he's a singer songwriter.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 23:15SPEAKER_04: But uh and maybe he has national songwriter friends and they've been talking and he wasn't supposed to say anything, but I don't know.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: But he said that and he took a lot of heat for it.
- 23:25SPEAKER_04: Uh last month, several leading industry organizations announced plans to develop an AI badging system to help listeners understand how songs were created, although the system will be voluntary.
- 23:36SPEAKER_06: So uh Why I read today, I think it was Australia has banned AI music.
- 23:43SPEAKER_04: I and and they obviously are using detectors to detect whether it's AI.
- 23:48SPEAKER_06: I would assume so.
- 23:48SPEAKER_06: I mean, or they're just you know some crocodile dundee looking dude that's like, nah, S AI.
- 23:54SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 23:55SPEAKER_04: No, I say AI too.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 23:58SPEAKER_04: And you know, it's funny, my wife I want to feed it to my waterby.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: My wife is dealing with with this a little bit because she's a graphic designer.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: And you and I have had conversations about how, yeah, we dip we've dipped our toe into AI to promote our gigs.
- 24:14SPEAKER_04: Uh for a little while we did that.
- 24:16SPEAKER_04: Um and then after a while it was like, okay, this looks just like the other one.
- 24:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, there's they all look the same.
- 24:22SPEAKER_04: The AI promotion stuff.
- 24:25SPEAKER_04: All looks the same.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: So we stopped using it.
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: And so my wife, who's a graphic designer, she is um fielding uh things like uh people are sending her, uh, I need a logo, something like this, and it'll be something they created with AI.
- 24:43SPEAKER_04: But it looks too AI.
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: We want we want it to look like a human made it.
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: So can you d take this and make it like like this, but not like this?
- 24:53SPEAKER_04: You know, not AI.
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: So it doesn't look AI, you know, and and she's she's having to uh you know kind of feel those those kinds of uh uh questions and and jobs.
- 25:05SPEAKER_06: It's just gonna get worse.
- 25:06SPEAKER_06: It's just gonna get worse, yeah.
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: You know, it's AI is running everything, it seems.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: And uh it's kind of scary when you think about it.
- 25:18SPEAKER_06: Skynet Yeah, Terminator.
- 25:21SPEAKER_06: Terminator We've been talking about this since the eighties.
- 25:25SPEAKER_06: I don't know if my kids have seen Terminator.
- 25:27SPEAKER_06: I should my older ones anyway.
- 25:29SPEAKER_06: I wouldn't.
- 25:30SPEAKER_06: At least the second one.
- 25:31SPEAKER_06: I shouldn't say the second one.
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: You didn't like the first one?
- 25:33SPEAKER_06: No, I like the first one.
- 25:35SPEAKER_06: But there's you know, there's Saxon and a naked Arnold in the first one.
- 25:39SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 25:40SPEAKER_04: You might want to kind of fast forward through that part.
- 25:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you could do that, I suppose, yeah.
- 25:44SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean my 18-year-old could watch it, I would think.
- 25:47SPEAKER_06: Well, I would hope I would hope so, you know.
- 25:49SPEAKER_06: They they kind of get it.
- 25:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: Anyway, maybe, you know, maybe.
- 25:54SPEAKER_04: I want him to watch uh he still hasn't seen Shawshank.
- 25:57SPEAKER_04: Ah man.
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: I've been trying I've been trying to sit him down to I'm talking, we're talking about Eli.
- 26:01SPEAKER_04: Trying to sit him down uh to watch Shawshank.
- 26:04SPEAKER_04: I want him to see Field of Dreams.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: I don't think he's seen Field of Dreams.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: Oh, great movie.
- 26:07SPEAKER_04: You know?
- 26:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:08SPEAKER_04: Um what other ones can you suggest?
- 26:11SPEAKER_04: A bit like like like like just kind of monumental movies.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: Um he's seen a lot of them and I didn't even know that he'd seen them.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: But anyway, those are the two that I want him to see before he goes to college.
- 26:23SPEAKER_04: Uh let's see.
- 26:24SPEAKER_04: I wish I showed him Dead Poets Society.
- 26:25SPEAKER_04: I told you that though.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was that was that was pretty cool.
- 26:29SPEAKER_04: Uh I got some new music.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: Queens of the Stone Age.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: Uh have a new album.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Uh it's called Perfect.
- 26:37SPEAKER_04: Or Perfect Age?
- 26:38SPEAKER_04: Perfect.
- 26:40SPEAKER_06: Perfect.
- 26:41SPEAKER_06: Perfect.
- 26:43SPEAKER_06: So you say it with Lisp?
- 26:45SPEAKER_06: Is that what I think?
- 26:45SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 26:46SPEAKER_06: Perfect.
- 26:47SPEAKER_06: Perfect.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: Um the title is a word frontman Josh Holm came up with himself.
- 26:52SPEAKER_04: Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be perfect.
- 26:56SPEAKER_04: Makes sense.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: And that title is funny when you're in a group, but it it ain't so funny when you're all alone.
- 27:03SPEAKER_04: Perfect.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: Perfect.
- 27:05SPEAKER_04: Um there's a lot of variety to the new music.
- 27:08SPEAKER_04: Every song sounds like it's from a different world, and that's on purpose.
- 27:12SPEAKER_04: So we're gonna hear a song called Ing Insignificant Other.
- 27:15SPEAKER_04: Um, this is Josh Holm and uh Queens of the Stone Age.
- 27:50SPEAKER_06: I was just gonna say his voice sounds like Clapton.
- 28:38SPEAKER_06: I kinda dig it.
- 28:40SPEAKER_06: I like it.
- 28:40SPEAKER_06: It doesn't sound like the Queens of the Stone Age.
- 28:42SPEAKER_06: No.
- 28:43SPEAKER_06: Not not what we think of it.
- 28:47SPEAKER_06: Well, he did say it was a, you know, a little bit different.
- 28:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 28:51SPEAKER_04: I I get a really hardcore Rolling Stones vibe.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:00SPEAKER_06: Um But it doesn't really go anywhere either.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, yeah.
- 29:08SPEAKER_04: There's you you keep waiting for like a big payoff.
- 29:10SPEAKER_06: Like a yeah, something big, but it's not getting there.
- 29:14SPEAKER_04: That'd be my only critique on let me just kind of just for giggles.
- 29:32SPEAKER_04: This is like the bridge.
- 30:17SPEAKER_04: Uh it took three minutes to for that little change to happen.
- 30:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's the thing, though.
- 30:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so uh anyway, that is called Insignificant Other from Queens of the Stone Age, their new album Perfect Perketh.
- 30:28SPEAKER_04: Perfect.
- 30:30SPEAKER_06: Perketh.
- 30:31SPEAKER_06: Perfect fff.
- 30:31SPEAKER_06: Who named your album?
- 30:32SPEAKER_06: Mike Tyson?
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: Okay, uh, so we're gonna do who dis and we're gonna our last installment of uh of Hootis uh from Pussifer.
- 30:45SPEAKER_04: Uh Bob the Painter had uh Bob the Painter, yes we can! Um can we paint it?
- 30:51SPEAKER_04: Yes we can.
- 30:53SPEAKER_04: Uh had had suggested we listen to Pussifer, so he gave us three songs, but then he's he messaged me recently.
- 30:59SPEAKER_04: He says, if you still wanted to play one last Pussifer song, I thought I'd give you a couple options.
- 31:04SPEAKER_04: Originally he had Indigo Children, uh V is for Versatile Mix in a studio setting on YouTube, but it's mellow like the first two you played.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: Another option is The Mission.
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: M is for Mila, which he sang with Mila Jovovich.
- 31:21SPEAKER_06: Oh from uh Resident Evil.
- 31:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: Kind of a different vibe.
- 31:25SPEAKER_04: None of Pussifer is really hard like Tool or Perfect Circle.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: It's supposedly his Stream of Conscious project.
- 31:32SPEAKER_04: So uh I thought we would do that.
- 31:34SPEAKER_04: We'll do um Puciffer The Mission.
- 31:37SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 31:38SPEAKER_06: Um appreciate your permission.
- 31:44SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, I am second fiddle and I should have some say in it.
- 31:49SPEAKER_04: Uh let's see.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: MS for me limics.
- 31:51SPEAKER_04: So let's do this one.
- 31:52SPEAKER_04: This is the one he's looking for.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: This is the official music video, too, so I'll try and make it bigger so you can see it as well.
- 31:59SPEAKER_05: Yoj.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: Yoj.
- 32:01SPEAKER_13: What do you know?
- 32:07unknown: What do you know?
- 32:13SPEAKER_13: What do you know?
- 32:15SPEAKER_13: The birds and the bees gotta wise to the light.
- 32:19SPEAKER_13: What do you know?
- 32:20SPEAKER_13: So they took to the trees and took to the sky.
- 32:25SPEAKER_13: What do you know?
- 32:27SPEAKER_13: On top of the chain and safe from the rain.
- 32:31SPEAKER_13: What do you know?
- 32:32SPEAKER_13: What you know about the ways of the under sky?
- 32:37SPEAKER_13: What do you know?
- 32:39SPEAKER_13: But I should get bummed up and guinea.
- 32:43unknown: What do you know?
- 32:44SPEAKER_13: Cause the hip to the ball and the hip to the right.
- 32:49unknown: What do you know?
- 32:55SPEAKER_13: What do you know?
- 32:56SPEAKER_14: Could you know about the waves on me on the sky?
- 33:00SPEAKER_14: What do you know?
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: What do you know?
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: I love what you asked because you ain't got a delay.
- 33:12unknown: What do you do?
- 33:18unknown: What are you doing?
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: What do you know?
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the streets runs into the perfect way to night.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: What do you know?
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Crash is on my left.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: One on my right.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: It's all fire and brimstone, baby.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: Let's go outside.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: What are you doing?
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: It's all fire and brimstone, baby.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: I got my brand new pistol, baby.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: I don't want to interrupt.
- 34:01SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's interesting.
- 34:03SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 34:04SPEAKER_06: Out of the out of the three we've listened to, this is the most the most interesting.
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_04: So when you have the the fifth element singing on your song.
- 34:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 34:17SPEAKER_04: It's it's still uh a continuous drone.
- 34:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: Uh there is a little more variety in this one.
- 34:27SPEAKER_14: There's like it picks up and there's a there's a new amount of ways on the under side.
- 34:39SPEAKER_04: And it's kind of hypnotizing.
- 34:41SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 34:41SPEAKER_04: A little bit.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: The music too.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: I'm not talking about just the video.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: The video is the video is odd.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna lie.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: It's you know, it's weird.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: It's creative, it's odd.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: But and mesmerizing.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: But the song itself, yeah, you just kind of get lost in.
- 34:58SPEAKER_06: It's like a it's like a mantra.
- 34:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 35:00SPEAKER_06: You know?
- 35:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we played a lot of that song.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:12SPEAKER_04: Uh that is uh the mission um from Pussifer.

- 46:07SPEAKER_04: The best song about California.
- 46:10SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 46:11SPEAKER_06: So this is what Justin said.
- 46:13SPEAKER_06: My first instinct goes to California girls.
- 46:16SPEAKER_06: Fun, exciting, and full of sun, but I don't like that as my answer is gonna go with in honor of my grandfather who loves San Francisco, sitting on the dock of the bay, Otis Redding.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: Oh wow.
- 46:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I thought that was an excellent choice.
- 46:29SPEAKER_04: And I said let's get that fired up.
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: Oh let's let's not play a commercial.
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: Let's get that fired up.
- 46:40SPEAKER_04: We we do this song, man.
- 46:42SPEAKER_04: This always goes over in a minute.
- 46:43SPEAKER_06: I love I love Otis.
- 46:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, me too.
- 46:45SPEAKER_06: Love, I love, love, love, love, love Otis.
- 46:52SPEAKER_11: Sitting in the morning sun.
- 46:56SPEAKER_11: I'll be sitting in the evening car.
- 47:01SPEAKER_11: Watching the ships rolling.
- 47:05SPEAKER_11: Then I watch her roll away again.
- 47:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I'm sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll away.
- 47:20SPEAKER_11: Sittin on the dock of the bay, wasting time I left my home in Georgia, headed for the Frisco Bay.
- 47:46SPEAKER_11: So I'm just gonna sit on the dock a little bit.
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: Can't uh you can't can't go wrong with that song.
- 47:52SPEAKER_04: I mean or anything Otis, really.
- 47:54SPEAKER_06: You're backed up by Booker T and the MGs, oh yeah, along with the Memphis horns.
- 47:58SPEAKER_06: I mean come on.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 48:01SPEAKER_04: Can't really go wrong.
- 48:02SPEAKER_04: That's just classic.
- 48:04SPEAKER_04: Justin, I second that pick.
- 48:06SPEAKER_04: Nice job.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: So we're gonna go to Larry?
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: Now we'll go to Cousin Larry.
- 48:10SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 48:11SPEAKER_06: Alright, Cousin Larry says, mixtape, holy cow.
- 48:14SPEAKER_06: So many songs about California to choose from.
- 48:16SPEAKER_06: Some of the most recognizable, like California Dream and California Girls, and Hotel California, are easy picks, but what is the best song?
- 48:24SPEAKER_06: I don't think you really can pick just one, but some of my favorites are Lights by Journey, Van Halen's Dirty Movies, and California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
- 48:34SPEAKER_04: I almost went with that one.
- 48:35SPEAKER_06: And LA Woman by the Doors.
- 48:37SPEAKER_06: But I think I'll Joe, I think I'll go with Billy Joel's Say Goodbye to Hollywood.
- 48:42SPEAKER_06: It's probably not really on anybody's list of best California songs, but I have always loved it.
- 48:47SPEAKER_06: Honorable mention to LL Cool J going back to Cali.
- 48:51SPEAKER_04: To Cali.
- 48:53SPEAKER_06: He put, oh wait, I don't think so.
- 49:09SPEAKER_04: This is this is the tip of the hat, by the way, to Phil Specter.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: That wall of sound.
- 49:18SPEAKER_04: I don't mean the song, but the recording of the song.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: Well it sounds like the wrong hat.
- 49:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:38SPEAKER_04: I want to get to the bridge because it's one of my favorite.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: Um musically, it's one of my favorite things Billy Joel did.
- 49:46SPEAKER_04: I don't know why.
- 49:51SPEAKER_06: I still have yet to watch uh Rick Reado's interview with him.
- 49:54SPEAKER_06: I haven't watched it.
- 49:55SPEAKER_06: I didn't realize he did one.
- 49:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 49:57SPEAKER_04: Oh, I gotta watch that.
- 49:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I gotta watch it too.
- 50:00SPEAKER_04: Right here.
- 50:00SPEAKER_04: Check this out.
- 50:01SPEAKER_04: This is the bridge of the song.
- 50:03SPEAKER_04: Musically, it's just really cool.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: And I read somewhere.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: Oh, finish this first.
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: Um I read somewhere.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: Either I read it or I saw an interview with Billy Joel.
- 50:47SPEAKER_04: And he said, if he had to pick one of his strengths, uh, it's his bridges.
- 50:54SPEAKER_04: Because he says he he does it, he thinks he does well at writing that middle eight.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, the uh for those of you that don't know that when there's a song and you know the verse and you know the chorus, but then there's a section in there, usually eight bars, um that the the British people call the middle eight, the Beatles call the middle eight, but we call it the bridge.
- 51:14SPEAKER_04: And it's usually completely different from the rest of the song.
- 51:17SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 51:17SPEAKER_04: As like a like we're going from the bridge, you're going from one song to the other.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:23SPEAKER_04: And uh Billy Joel shines um with his bridges.
- 51:27SPEAKER_04: I can see that.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I can too.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: If you think about some of the some of the songs that uh he's known for, the brid The Bridge really stands out.
- 51:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:34SPEAKER_04: Uh musically anyway.
- 51:35SPEAKER_06: All right, what was yours?
- 51:36SPEAKER_06: So funny, he never wrote a song called The Bridge.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: He wrote a that was that was Elton John.
- 51:41SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 51:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 51:43SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 51:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 51:44SPEAKER_06: Elton John has a song called The Bridge.
- 51:46SPEAKER_04: Billy Joel has an album called The Bridge.
- 51:48SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay, well.
- 51:50SPEAKER_04: It's not a song.
- 51:52SPEAKER_04: Isn't it called It's called The Bridge, right?
- 51:53SPEAKER_04: I think I have that.
- 51:55SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 51:56SPEAKER_04: Is there a song on that album called The Bridge?
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: There's the album.
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: The Bridge.
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: Let's look at the track listing.
- 52:08SPEAKER_04: There's no song called The Bridge.
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: But the album is called The Bridge.
- 52:14SPEAKER_06: So Elton John, we both get commercial credit.
- 52:17SPEAKER_06: Elton John wrote a song called The Bridge.
- 52:21SPEAKER_06: It's actually a really great song right there.
- 52:23SPEAKER_06: It's a great song.
- 52:24SPEAKER_06: From 2006.
- 52:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 52:26SPEAKER_06: I don't think I've ever heard that.
- 52:27SPEAKER_06: It's a good song.
- 52:28SPEAKER_06: Check it out.
- 52:28SPEAKER_06: I will another time.
- 52:31SPEAKER_06: Uh what was your pick?
- 52:33SPEAKER_06: Well, I went.
- 52:34SPEAKER_06: I went well, I started off, I was like, California California Love and by Tupac.
- 52:40SPEAKER_06: And I was like, nah.
- 52:42SPEAKER_06: So then I went to uh It's the End of the World As We Know It by REM.
- 52:49SPEAKER_06: And I was like, that's that's better.
- 52:51SPEAKER_06: That's apropos.
- 52:52SPEAKER_06: But that's not even that's not even the best one.
- 52:54SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 52:55SPEAKER_06: I went with Anima by Tool.
- 53:00SPEAKER_06: Because that is like viciously attacking California.
- 53:05SPEAKER_06: LA specifically, but I'm not sure what you're doing.
- 53:34SPEAKER_06: Cover your ears.
- 53:35SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of bad words in this one.
- 53:37SPEAKER_04: Well, I luckily I can see the lyrics.
- 53:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay, good.
- 53:40SPEAKER_04: So I might be able to uh censor it if I'm quick.
- 53:43SPEAKER_13: Should we use communication promised people?
- 53:56SPEAKER_04: It's not like a radio show where I have to hit two buttons.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: I can just hit one.
- 54:06SPEAKER_04: Missed that one.
- 54:15SPEAKER_06: You're not very good at it.
- 54:16SPEAKER_06: I'm not very good at it.
- 54:17SPEAKER_06: I don't know the song.
- 54:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 54:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it if you're interested, I mean it's a long song.
- 54:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 54:29SPEAKER_06: But uh just check out the lyrics and you'll understand what I mean.
- 54:33SPEAKER_06: Uh especially in the end, you know, towards the end he starts learn to swim, learn to swim, learn to swim, learn to swim.
- 54:41SPEAKER_04: I was gonna do something like that.
- 54:43SPEAKER_04: I was I was gonna pick a song that you know, for all intents and purposes, trash is California, but I I didn't.
- 54:49SPEAKER_04: Um I went with this one.
- 54:55SPEAKER_04: Uh Albert Hammond.
- 54:57SPEAKER_04: I don't know if you remember Albert Hammond.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, I know the song.
- 55:02SPEAKER_04: It never rains.
- 55:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, never in California.
- 55:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 55:15SPEAKER_13: Got embodied.
- 56:19SPEAKER_04: That would be my pick.
- 56:20SPEAKER_04: Albert Hammond.
- 56:21SPEAKER_04: Great song.
- 56:21SPEAKER_04: It never rains in Southern California.
- 56:23SPEAKER_04: Enam from Toole was Doug's pick.
- 56:26SPEAKER_04: Uh Cousin Larry.
- 56:28SPEAKER_04: Uh shoot.
- 56:30SPEAKER_04: Billy Joel.
- 56:31SPEAKER_04: Billy Joel, that's it.
- 56:31SPEAKER_04: Say goodbye to Hollywood.
- 56:33SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 56:33SPEAKER_04: And um sitting on the dock at the bay is our friend Justin's pick.
- 56:37SPEAKER_04: So she's got her work cut out for her.
- 56:39SPEAKER_04: She does.
- 56:40SPEAKER_04: Uh this week for sure.
- 56:41SPEAKER_04: So um now we get to pick a new one! Good luck to you.
- 56:46SPEAKER_04: Um, yes, it's time to pick a new mixtape question.
- 56:55unknown: Don't do that.
- 56:58SPEAKER_04: ASMR.
- 57:02SPEAKER_06: I think we've done that one.
- 57:07SPEAKER_04: These are getting stale, aren't they?
- 57:10SPEAKER_06: Oh, we've been doing this a while.
- 57:12SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 57:14SPEAKER_06: We've done that one too.
- 57:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we've done that one.
- 57:23SPEAKER_06: Did I drop some cards again?
- 57:25SPEAKER_04: Uh a couple.
- 57:26SPEAKER_04: Two or three.
- 57:27SPEAKER_06: Not not as many as the last time?
- 57:28SPEAKER_06: No.
- 57:29SPEAKER_06: Bob Bob got a kick out of it.
- 57:30SPEAKER_04: I know he did.
- 57:35SPEAKER_06: Let's see what's at the very bottom.
- 57:38SPEAKER_04: That's a that's a that's a qu that's an interesting question.
- 57:41SPEAKER_04: I think this is the next thing we're gonna do once we uh once we get to it and probably next week.
- 57:46SPEAKER_04: Next week.
- 57:46SPEAKER_04: Hyperticals.
- 57:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:50SPEAKER_04: I'll just keep that one at the front so I can ask that first.
- 57:56SPEAKER_04: We did that one.
- 57:58SPEAKER_06: We did that one.
- 58:01SPEAKER_06: We did that one.
- 58:04SPEAKER_06: Well, I think I've been putting them out of the bottom now.
- 58:07SPEAKER_06: So pull from the middle.
- 58:11SPEAKER_06: I think we did that one.
- 58:13SPEAKER_06: Well, it sounds a lot of them sound familiar.
- 58:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 58:16SPEAKER_06: Well, that's what I was Oh, okay.
- 58:17SPEAKER_06: Here's one we have never done.
- 58:21SPEAKER_06: Alright.
- 58:22SPEAKER_06: This is a long one.
- 58:23SPEAKER_06: This is like a paragraph.
- 58:28SPEAKER_06: Uh you just got done with an epic 21-mile backpacking trip.
- 58:34SPEAKER_06: Where the final ascent was a 1,500-foot elevation in just under one mile.
- 58:40SPEAKER_06: You were exhilarated, exhausted, and adrenaline is pumping.
- 58:44SPEAKER_06: You get into the car for the drive to the best meal in two days with your friends.
- 58:50SPEAKER_06: What song do you celebrate with?
- 58:54SPEAKER_06: That's like a mini story.
- 58:56SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 58:57SPEAKER_06: It's a story.
- 59:01SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 59:03SPEAKER_04: Um I will have to think about that one.
- 59:07SPEAKER_04: And I'm sure I won't until the next time we sit down to do this podcast.
- 59:11SPEAKER_04: I guarantee you won't.
- 59:14SPEAKER_04: I know you.
- 59:15SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah.
- 59:16SPEAKER_04: Alright.
- 59:16SPEAKER_04: Uh, so we're gonna take a break.
- 59:18SPEAKER_04: We'll come back and we'll uh do uh I'm gonna send it to cousin Larry first.

- 1:01:11SPEAKER_04: We had a vibe going.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_04: 20 seconds.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: So that one, and then that one, and then okay, so I'm going to that one.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_04: That button.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_04: That button right there.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_04: Maybe we should put arrows on it so you know which way to go.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_05: It's been a long time since I've been on the radio.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_05: Just push all these buttons.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_05: Dude, dude.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_05: I'm not as young.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_03: I'm not as young as I once was.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_04: Smash your trash.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_04: Smash your tra! Thank you.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_04: Up for debate tonight.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_04: I think I played this.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I still have it up here.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_04: So Up for Debate Tonight is music from believe it or not, Eric Clapton, one of my favorites of all time.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_04: The album is called I Still Do.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_04: We went through a bunch of these last week.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_04: Um I don't know.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_04: I'm on the f I'm so on the fence about this.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_04: I bet.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_04: Um I'm gonna decide after.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_04: I will decide after.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_04: Whether I'm regretting putting it up for debate or not.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: Okay, so let's see.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_04: Let's let's go to let's start with Jeff.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_04: Because I think Jeff responded to this, right?
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_04: Uh yes, he did.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_06: I thought he did, but it wasn't positive.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_04: Trashing Clapton is blasphemy.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_04: However, I know you have better Clapton music in your collection.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_04: Since you're trying to clean out your collection, and I want to help you help yourself, it's gotta go in the trash.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_04: Or at least to KMH music.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_04: Okay, so that's one vote.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_04: One vote trash.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_04: One vote for.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_04: Hold on a second.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_04: One vote for uh this try! Okay.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_04: Uh going to Bouncing Bob.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_04: Now, I will say I want to put this message out to all of those that are voting.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_04: Don't um don't use the fact that I'm trying to clean out as as a as a factor in your decision.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_04: You know, because I think Larry did that one time.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_04: He's like, uh, I don't really like this one, uh, but I know you're trying to get rid of it, so go ahead.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_04: You know, I understand that.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: And and Jeff just said that too.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_04: You know, like, I I know you have better collapton, uh, so trash this one.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_04: From from this point on, don't let the fact that I'm trying to clean it out uh factor into your decision.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_04: If you think I should keep it, tell me I should keep it.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: If you think I should trash it, tell me I should trash it.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_04: Um so I got one vote for trash.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_04: So Bouncing Bob.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_04: I still do.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: Eric Clapton.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_04: Smash.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: Um he says, I really did not know many Clapton songs, except, of course, Layla.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_04: I don't know how that's possible.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_04: This album did exactly what intended to do, make a blues album that would be enjoyed by many.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_04: My wife and I listened to it and she liked it.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_04: Even though Layla is not on this album, I think it's a keeper.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_06: Well, technically Layla was Derek and the Dominoes.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_06: True.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_06: If you want to be technical.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_04: Um true.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_04: Uh although the unplugged version.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: So so that's one vote for Smash.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_04: Smash.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_04: Uh so one vote for trash, one vote for Smash.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_04: Who else is voting?
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_04: Judge.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_04: Okay, the judge.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_04: What is her what is her vote?
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_06: As for Smash or Trash, this was this week was difficult.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_06: O'Brien sounds like he really enjoys the music.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_06: It is by a great artist.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_06: However, if it's not one you see yourself reaching for on at least a bi-weekly basis, as I'm sure his music collections allows for such a lengthy turnaround, I would have to say trash.
- 1:05:13unknown: Trash!
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_06: Unfortunately, I'm not a very sentimental person.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_06: While I personally love music, I love less clutter more.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_04: So that's a good answer.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_06: Um that's why she's the judge.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_04: But she's she's saying that I sound like I I was on the fence about it, which I am on the fence about it.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_04: But she reasoned it I like less clutter, but like she likes less clutter more than uh than an album I'm not gonna reach for.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_04: I get that.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_04: Okay, that's cool.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_04: But yeah, so if you but don't say like I know you're trying to get rid of it.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_06: You're get rid of stuff, so um You're not trashing it just for the sake of trashing.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_04: Right, right.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: Uh and are you the last one, you and I?
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_04: Okay, so what's your vote?
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_06: My vote is trash.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_06: Your vote is trash.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_06: I'm not a I'm not a big fan of late clapped and stuff.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_06: It just got too like for me.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_04: Okay, so how many votes is that?
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_04: That's three trash.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_04: Three trash and one smash.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: So it doesn't matter what I vote.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_06: Because it's done.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_06: But we want to hear what you vote anyway.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_04: Uh I'm going to vote.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_05: Ah! I'm going to vote Smash.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_04: So ordinarily I would keep it uh in my collection.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_04: But since it was voted out, it's going to KMH Music.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_04: Bye bye.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_04: Bye bye.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_04: Um That's okay though.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_04: Uh following your iTunes anyway.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_04: It is following my iTunes.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_04: I still have the album.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_04: Although this computer could die any second.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_06: It is pretty old.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_06: It is pretty old.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_06: It is pretty old.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I do have a bunch of it backed up on a hard drive somewhere.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_04: So I still I still have the album.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_04: I'm just getting rid of the actual CD.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_04: Alright, that means I have to pick another one.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_03: I'm putting up for debate.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_04: And you're gonna ask why am I on the fence about this?
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_04: And I'm not gonna tell you.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_09: With a little I'm not gonna ask.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_06: You wanna be like that?
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_09: We'll walk upon the water, we'll rise above the mist with a little peace and some harmony.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_04: We all know though who this is.
