Transcript
- 0:00Imagine if there were an emergency room where you could always visit your marriage
- 0:04crises, where diagnosis and healing were just a visit away.
- 0:08Welcome to Couples Journey with Christ Jesus blog series podcast.
- 0:12We're starting a new series, Total Commitment.
- 0:16Today, Rey and Annie will share a heartfelt reflection that sheds light on the
- 0:21real challenges in marriage today.
- 0:23Stay tuned, because the truth might just surprise you and inspire you to make
- 0:27changes that will impact your own journey, particularly in marriage. Here's part one.
- 0:34How we wish there were something like an emergency room we could visit anytime,
- 0:38whenever we hit a bump in our marriage.
- 0:41Bumps that shake our focus and challenge the vows we made on that wonderful wedding day.
- 0:46If such a place existed, these machines could help measure the pain each partner
- 0:50is experiencing, and a doctor's diagnosis could guide us toward understanding.
- 0:55From there, we'd receive prescriptions to help us heal and regain focus and
- 1:00direction. Moving forward together.
- 1:02But, here's the reality check. Marriage challenges aren't quite like illnesses we can easily diagnose.
- 1:08With clear causes and simple solutions. It's a continuous journey of working
- 1:13together, learning, forgiving, and growing.
- 1:16Sadly, despite all the inspiring stories about how fulfilling marriage can be,
- 1:21the truth still remains.
- 1:23Divorces are happening at an alarming rate. Even more concerning is the rising
- 1:28trend of gray divorce, where people 50 and older in the U, S,
- 1:33are increasingly getting divorced.
- 1:35This is alarming because it challenges the longevity, purpose,
- 1:39and divine design of marriage.
- 1:41Just imagine how our younger generation perceives this trend. What are they thinking?
- 1:46It seems the serpent is very much alive today, still deceiving and causing division in marriages.
- 1:52Even with sincere hearts trying to hold on to their vows.
- 1:55Many find themselves just surviving instead of truly living with purpose.
- 2:00If we're not going to be intentional about this, we risk letting our lives and
- 2:04marriages drift down a dangerous and lost path.
- 2:08Some common challenges facing marriages today and in desperate need of God's
- 2:13grace through Jesus Christ include 1. Lack of focus and direction.
- 2:18Without Christ as the center, marriage can become aimless, drifting away from
- 2:23the purpose of growing in love and faith together. 2.
- 2:27Holding on to past hurts, failing to forgive past mistakes, disagreements,
- 2:32or regrets allows bitterness to grow, leading to unresolved conflicts and emotional distance. 3.
- 2:39Self-centeredness and pride. Without an eternal perspective and focus on the divine prize.
- 2:45Couples may prioritize their comfort and pride over mutual growth and sacrificial love. 4.
- 2:53Spiritual stagnation. Not pursuing spiritual growth can make the marriage complacent,
- 2:58weaken faith, and reduce the couple's ability to face difficulties with divine strength. 5.
- 3:04Erosion of trust and love When perseverance and hope aren't cultivated,
- 3:09trust and love can fade, making the marriage fragile. 6.
- 3:14Increased frustration and despair Without hope in God's promises and eternal
- 3:19blessings, couples may feel weary and hopeless during tough times.
- 3:24Which can even lead to divorce. 7. Missed opportunities for spiritual maturity.
- 3:29A marriage that doesn't align with God's purpose may miss out on the deeper blessings.
- 3:34Joy and spiritual growth that come from walking with Christ.
- 3:38If we allow our marriage to become superficial, marked by unresolved conflicts,
- 3:44pride, and lack of hope, over time, it can lead to emotional distance,
- 3:49broken trust, lack of focus, and even separation.
- 3:52But restoring our anchor in God will help us build a resilient,
- 3:57joyful, and spiritually fulfilling marriage.
- 3:59We pray this week's blog series isn't just a reminder of how wrong perceptions can steer us astray.
- 4:06Rather, it's a wake-up call, a gentle encouragement for those who claim to know
- 4:10Christ but haven't yet been intentional
- 4:12about anchoring their marriage and family relationships in Him.
