- 0:10Speaker 1: It is time now for Front Office Unfiltered.
- 0:13Speaker 2: You can, of course check out Jim Boden's work MLB
- 0:15Speaker 2: analyst and insider on CBS Sports. He works for the
- 0:18Speaker 2: Athletic MLB Network Radio Sirius XM. He's our Foul Territory contributor.
- 0:23Speaker 2: The man has many, many jobs. Incredibly talented.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Jim. Good to be with you.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You wrote on Friday at the GM meetings that the
- 0:31Speaker 2: future of Skiens and Schooble Orioles are getting calls for
- 0:34Speaker 2: Rushman and more. Let's talk about Skeens and Schooble for
- 0:37Speaker 2: a moment. Do the Tigers have a chance in heck
- 0:40Speaker 2: Jim of signing Scooble to a long term deal?
- 0:45Speaker 3: ALTA, that's a Chris Ilich question, right, It's not a
- 0:47Speaker 3: Scott Harris question. It's not a Seth Greenberg question. It's
- 0:51Speaker 3: Chris Ilich. Look, I think we pretty much know where
- 0:54Speaker 3: this thing has to land.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Right.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Yoshinoba Yamamoto makes three hundred and twenty five million, and
- 1:00Speaker 3: were talking about Scooba, who's won back to back cy
- 1:02Speaker 3: Young Awards, and he's twenty eight years old, and he's
- 1:04Speaker 3: got the competitiveness, the makeup, he's a great teammate, He's
- 1:08Speaker 3: the full package. He and Paul's games are the two
- 1:11Speaker 3: best pitchers in the sport period. So you know how
- 1:14Speaker 3: badly does Chrisilicic won him. I mean, I think you
- 1:16Speaker 3: know the next offer they need to make has to
- 1:19Speaker 3: start at three hundred and fifty million. You have to
- 1:22Speaker 3: come out right away and show Scott Boris that you're
- 1:24Speaker 3: gonna respect him and you're gonna make him the highest
- 1:26Speaker 3: paid pitcher in Major league history. That's where the offer starts.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And then you have to see where Scott goes with that.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Does he counter at five hundreds? He countered at four fifty.
- 1:35Speaker 3: You know, if you can get him done between three
- 1:37Speaker 3: point fifty and four hundred, I think Scott Harris is
- 1:40Speaker 3: gonna tell Chris Hillis, let's do it. It's hard to
- 1:42Speaker 3: get an ace. He's got everything we want in a
- 1:46Speaker 3: superstar player. And then it's up to Chris. And if
- 1:48Speaker 3: Chris sits there and tells Scott Harris, I'm not paying
- 1:51Speaker 3: four hundred million for a singular player. I just don't
- 1:54Speaker 3: think it makes sense. I'm not going to approve doing that,
- 1:57Speaker 3: then Scott Harris, to me, has no choice but to
- 2:01Speaker 3: trade the player. Because I'm not going to to the
- 2:03Speaker 3: trade deadline and get two months rental return on him.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And I'm certainly not gonna do what the Angels did
- 2:09Speaker 3: with Otani and let him get the free agency and
- 2:11Speaker 3: get draft pick compensation. No. So look, this is really
- 2:15Speaker 3: a Chris Ilich question more than anything else. I do
- 2:18Speaker 3: think s Google would stay there if he was made
- 2:21Speaker 3: that type of offer, And I think it's gonna be
- 2:24Speaker 3: fascinating to see how it plays out.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Jim the Tigers when Mike Gilich was alive, We're not
- 2:30Speaker 5: afraid to go out and spend the money. Why is
- 2:33Speaker 5: the son not acting the same? Why is Chris Ilitch
- 2:36Speaker 5: not doing the same. Is it because he doesn't love
- 2:39Speaker 5: baseball as much? Is it because because I know he
- 2:42Speaker 5: was in Seattle for Game five? He flew out there,
- 2:44Speaker 5: he was on the field. So does he not love
- 2:46Speaker 5: baseball the way? Does he not desire a championship the
- 2:49Speaker 5: way his dad did? Because to me, that was one
- 2:51Speaker 5: of the great things about Detroit is once Mike Gilich said, wait,
- 2:53Speaker 5: we're turning it on. I mean they went field or
- 2:56Speaker 5: they signed MIGGI Now that Meiggie deal at the end
- 2:58Speaker 5: was bad, but they made some moves to get guys
- 3:01Speaker 5: there and to try to be a competitive team.
- 3:03Speaker 4: They're competitive.
- 3:04Speaker 5: They're on the brink of being able to possibly win
- 3:07Speaker 5: a series that they haven't done in forty plus years.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Why is he not doing what his dad did?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great question. I guess we should ask
- 3:15Speaker 3: the same thing about how Steinbrenner. How come he doesn't
- 3:17Speaker 3: act like George does?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Right?
- 3:19Speaker 3: But he does? He does.
- 3:20Speaker 5: He does it more though he's closer to his dad
- 3:22Speaker 5: than's George than the ill are he'll still spend I
- 3:26Speaker 5: mean he may, he'll spend the money.
- 3:29Speaker 3: He will, but he's more reserved than his dad. His
- 3:31Speaker 3: dad would go get Tucker and Bashett right now, Like,
- 3:34Speaker 3: come on, that's what George.
- 3:35Speaker 4: They probably would. They probably be the favorites for the
- 3:37Speaker 4: World Series.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Jim, Yep, they're absolutely right. And so the answer to
- 3:42Speaker 3: your question is a lot of times the sons want
- 3:44Speaker 3: to be more responsible than their dads because their dads
- 3:47Speaker 3: didn't look at it from a business perspective. Their dad's
- 3:50Speaker 3: looked at it. I want to win. This was a
- 3:52Speaker 3: hobby for them. They loved it. I mean, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 3: George made his money in the ship building, and Mike
- 3:58Speaker 3: made his with a little Caesar Pizza and the other
- 4:00Speaker 3: things that he was involved in. And the Suns come along,
- 4:03Speaker 3: the next generation who inherited a lot of the resources,
- 4:07Speaker 3: and they tend to know not be their dads, and
- 4:10Speaker 3: they're gonna be more responsible. I think Scooble is that
- 4:13Speaker 3: exception though. And look, if you can afford Miguel Cabrera
- 4:17Speaker 3: in his prime like they did, then you certainly can
- 4:21Speaker 3: afford Schooble in the prime. I mean, look at their roster,
- 4:25Speaker 3: aj Eric and Alana for a minute. There's a lot
- 4:28Speaker 3: of payroll flexibility there. They're not loaded with stars. Sure,
- 4:33Speaker 3: Riley Green is gonna make a lot of money at
- 4:35Speaker 3: some point, but look, your next best player is gonna
- 4:38Speaker 3: be Kevin McGonagall, who's gonna be Rookie of the Year
- 4:40Speaker 3: in twenty twenty six, and you're not gonna have to
- 4:42Speaker 3: pay him for three years. So to pay Schooble forty
- 4:45Speaker 3: million a year for ten years, the budget has to
- 4:49Speaker 3: scream I can afford it. So you know we're gonna
- 4:52Speaker 3: find out. I think we're gonna find out without a doubt.
- 4:55Speaker 3: But Chris, as you pointed out, yep, not his dad.
- 4:58Speaker 3: He operates differently and so I think this is gonna
- 5:01Speaker 3: be the biggest decision that Chris Ilich has made since
- 5:05Speaker 3: he took over as the control person the Detroit Tigers.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And I'm fascinated to see how this plays out, because
- 5:10Speaker 3: if he's not willing to do it, then again, we're
- 5:13Speaker 3: gonna see the biggest trade we've seen in a long time.
- 5:15Speaker 3: This winner.
- 5:17Speaker 4: That's what I want to get to.
- 5:18Speaker 6: What's a comparable return Because people are like, oh, well,
- 5:22Speaker 6: Juan Soto got this and all this stuff. We're talking
- 5:24Speaker 6: about guy who single handedly took his team to the
- 5:27Speaker 6: playoffs and made his team go as far as they
- 5:30Speaker 6: could in the playoffs because if he could hit, he
- 5:32Speaker 6: probably would have helped a little bit more too, because
- 5:35Speaker 6: they didn't get any runs. He did everything possible.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, a great, great point, Eric, And I think when
- 5:41Speaker 3: you look at it, there's not a lot of teams
- 5:43Speaker 3: that are gonna match and anyone that's gonna give up
- 5:46Speaker 3: a load to get him are going to want to
- 5:48Speaker 3: be able to sign him long term and are going
- 5:50Speaker 3: to be willing to say, hey, I'll pay the four
- 5:52Speaker 3: hundred million dollar bill when it comes. And so, you know,
- 5:56Speaker 3: I kind of identify five teams where I think there's
- 5:59Speaker 3: a possible fit. Let me go through him quickly for you.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Since you asked the Dodgers, the Dodgers could offer Emmett Sheehan,
- 6:07Speaker 3: Justin Robleski, Jackson, Ferris Zayer, Hope. Pretty good package. You
- 6:12Speaker 3: get three young starters, you control inexpensive, you get a
- 6:15Speaker 3: future All star outfielder. That's a pretty strong package. Now
- 6:18Speaker 3: you want to get more creative. What about Tyler Glass
- 6:21Speaker 3: now is part of the return. He doesn't have a
- 6:23Speaker 3: no trade clause. That would give the Tigers at least
- 6:25Speaker 3: the top of the rotation type starter back. Have him
- 6:28Speaker 3: be part of the package. Oh, you can look at
- 6:30Speaker 3: the Red Sox right. They could do a package of
- 6:32Speaker 3: early for their rotation, Christian Campbell for the infield, Garcia
- 6:36Speaker 3: for the outfield. You could run a package around that.
- 6:39Speaker 3: The New York Mets could offer a package led by
- 6:42Speaker 3: Brandon Sprout and Jonah Toong, two starters back throwing their
- 6:45Speaker 3: Jet Williams and maybe Ronald Mauricio. That might work. Seattle
- 6:49Speaker 3: may want to offer one of their young starters, say
- 6:51Speaker 3: a Bryce Miller, and then maybe their best pitching prospect
- 6:54Speaker 3: in Sloan throwing their ford, one of their top prospects
- 6:58Speaker 3: Ad Morales. That might work. The Yankees with Spencer Jones
- 7:02Speaker 3: and Will Warren could start a package, but that's the
- 7:04Speaker 3: type of return that you're gonna get. You're not gonna
- 7:07Speaker 3: get a superstar back, You're not gonna get equal value back,
- 7:10Speaker 3: but you might get enough quantity where you can compete
- 7:13Speaker 3: in the future if you're not gonna spend the money
- 7:16Speaker 3: on Schooble. The best move the Tigers can make, though,
- 7:19Speaker 3: it's really simple. It's to sign them long term and
- 7:22Speaker 3: try to get it done. But if you can't, don't
- 7:25Speaker 3: get stuck with draft pick compensation like the Angels did,
- 7:28Speaker 3: because that will set you back years.
- 7:30Speaker 6: You said, not many match up, but I mean we're
- 7:34Speaker 6: not talking. You don't have to sign this. You don't
- 7:36Speaker 6: have to sign them to an extension. And if you
- 7:38Speaker 6: trade here, like you're giving up a lot. I get that,
- 7:41Speaker 6: but you're getting a guy, like I said, what he
- 7:44Speaker 6: can do, but you're also getting the draft pick compensation
- 7:47Speaker 6: at the end of the season if he gets traded now.
- 7:49Speaker 6: So why do other teams not match up because they
- 7:51Speaker 6: don't have enough or they don't have enough big league
- 7:54Speaker 6: ready where they're like, okay, well we get this guy,
- 7:57Speaker 6: and we can still the Tigers can still make it
- 8:00Speaker 6: to the playoffs.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of teams don't have the young starter
- 8:05Speaker 3: that you definitely have to have back if you're going
- 8:07Speaker 3: to trade Schoogle. They a lot of teams don't have
- 8:10Speaker 3: those guys that are on the doorstep to get to
- 8:12Speaker 3: the big leagues. So, you know, when I looked at it,
- 8:15Speaker 3: and I'm writing an article on this on The Athletic
- 8:17Speaker 3: that'll be published later this week, you know, I looked
- 8:20Speaker 3: at all twenty nine teams and kind of put together,
- 8:23Speaker 3: if I'm the Tigers, what would make sense and where
- 8:26Speaker 3: the fits would be and where they wouldn't be. And
- 8:29Speaker 3: I just found those were the teams that matched up.
- 8:32Speaker 3: You know, I have to start with I need young
- 8:34Speaker 3: pitching back, or I have to have a rotation guy
- 8:37Speaker 3: ready back along with a very strong package. And those
- 8:41Speaker 3: were the five teams that I felt matched up best
- 8:43Speaker 3: for Detroit that doesn't need other teams can't match up
- 8:46Speaker 3: and can't make you know, competitive offers. I just kind
- 8:49Speaker 3: of took it from the Tigers perspective.
- 8:53Speaker 7: Holiday shopping season is here, and we have you covered
- 8:58Speaker 7: from head to toe.
- 9:00Speaker 6: Let's take to talk about an area that's not quite
- 9:03Speaker 6: close to the toes. Let's get crazy with this holiday season. Yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 6: that's me Undies I'm spinning around, but the holiday season. Now,
- 9:10Speaker 6: you can get me undies with some holiday prints on them.
- 9:13Speaker 7: That's right, ridiculously soft fabric holiday prints, matching holiday prints
- 9:18Speaker 7: with your special person. Or you can coordinate pjs for
- 9:21Speaker 7: the family photo. And right now you can get up
- 9:23Speaker 7: to fifty percent off with the code foul. We rock
- 9:26Speaker 7: me Undies. You should too. We're talking over thirty million
- 9:29Speaker 7: pairs sold. Knock out all your holiday gifting needs today
- 9:34Speaker 7: with me Undies. To get exclusive holiday deals up to
- 9:37Speaker 7: yep I said it, fifty percent off, go to meundies
- 9:40Speaker 7: dot com slash foul and enter promo code foul. That's
- 9:44Speaker 7: m e U N D I e s dot com
- 9:47Speaker 7: slash f o u L promo code foul for up
- 9:50Speaker 7: to fifty percent off.
- 9:53Speaker 2: All right, Well, Tarrek Scoogle has some to say in it,
- 9:56Speaker 2: but obviously still under control. So we'll have to see
- 9:59Speaker 2: what happens with him in terms of the Tigers, whether
- 10:01Speaker 2: they trade him or not. A guy that has a
- 10:03Speaker 2: lot of say, Jim and you wrote about it and
- 10:05Speaker 2: talked about it is Kyle Tucker. I would be very
- 10:08Speaker 2: hard pressed to say he goes back to the Cubs.
- 10:10Speaker 2: What do you think is the market for Kyle Tucker?
- 10:13Speaker 2: And who would realistically is a good fit for him?
- 10:17Speaker 3: You know, you know, I found this kind of fascinating
- 10:19Speaker 3: talking to so many different front office executives about what
- 10:23Speaker 3: is the value at Tucker? What do you think he's
- 10:24Speaker 3: going to get? You know, I had some guys say
- 10:26Speaker 3: between four hundred and five hundred. I had some guys
- 10:29Speaker 3: say between three hundred and three and fifty. I had
- 10:31Speaker 3: some guys say high AAV but shorter term to let
- 10:34Speaker 3: him go back on the market. It's interesting because it's
- 10:38Speaker 3: a widespread and I don't know what Kyle, you know,
- 10:41Speaker 3: what he's going to prioritize. Is it going to be
- 10:43Speaker 3: the most years and the most money, or is he
- 10:45Speaker 3: going to be flexible and taking high AAV and going
- 10:47Speaker 3: back in the market and you know, four or five years,
- 10:50Speaker 3: or having a bunch of opt out clauses. You know,
- 10:52Speaker 3: I don't know how he's going to play this out.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I think it's going to be very interesting. But in
- 10:57Speaker 3: terms of teams, where he fits, I mean he fits
- 11:00Speaker 3: the Blue Jays put him in right field. You know
- 11:02Speaker 3: he fits exactly what they like. Thirty homers, thirty steels
- 11:05Speaker 3: plus defense plus runner plus arm. Doesn't have to be
- 11:09Speaker 3: the face of the franchise. That's Vladimir Guerrero Junior. I
- 11:12Speaker 3: think it's a really good fit, and I hear that
- 11:14Speaker 3: they're really interested in him. I think he fits with
- 11:17Speaker 3: the Yankees. If I'm Brian Cashman, I want everything to
- 11:19Speaker 3: do with him. I want him over Bellinger, I want
- 11:21Speaker 3: him over Grisham. I want to have him in Judge together,
- 11:24Speaker 3: in that lineup. And again, doesn't have to be the
- 11:26Speaker 3: face of the franchise because Aaron Judge does that. If
- 11:29Speaker 3: I'm the Dodgers, I can't watch t O in right
- 11:31Speaker 3: field anymore. It makes me sick every time the ball
- 11:34Speaker 3: sit up there. I love his power and I love
- 11:35Speaker 3: the personality, but can we just go hide him in
- 11:38Speaker 3: left field and let's put Tucker in right field, the
- 11:40Speaker 3: PAHs and center. I feel a lot better the Dodgers.
- 11:43Speaker 3: They got eighty million coming off the books. Why can't
- 11:45Speaker 3: I invest in Kyle Tucker? Complete player? Quiet will fit
- 11:49Speaker 3: in nicely. Doesn't have to be the face of the
- 11:51Speaker 3: franchise because Otani and Betts and Freeman are that you
- 11:55Speaker 3: know other teams says he fit yeah, Mets in right field,
- 11:58Speaker 3: but Sodo dh, I'd feel better about my team defensively,
- 12:01Speaker 3: that's not going to happen. The Phillies would be a
- 12:03Speaker 3: great fit in right field instead of Costianos, but Dave
- 12:05Speaker 3: Dombrowski's focusing on Schwarber and Ranger Suarez first. But I
- 12:09Speaker 3: like the fit in Philly, and I love the fit
- 12:12Speaker 3: in San Francisco. But Buster Posey goes, no, no, no, I'm
- 12:15Speaker 3: spending all my money on pitching, pitching and pitching. I'm
- 12:17Speaker 3: not getting another bat, So that's what he's going to do.
- 12:19Speaker 3: So I think at the end of the day, Blue Jay's,
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yankees Dodgers are the best fits. And I think if
- 12:24Speaker 3: you had to pick a favorite right now, it's probably Toronto.
- 12:28Speaker 6: Can you walk us through the closer market, because it's deep.
- 12:32Speaker 6: There's a lot on the free agency market. Do you
- 12:35Speaker 6: see one? Do you see any of the teams that
- 12:37Speaker 6: are in for a closer currently have a closer and say,
- 12:41Speaker 6: you know what, we can double down? Or is it
- 12:44Speaker 6: a case where it's like, hey, because this team X
- 12:47Speaker 6: has this closer already, they're not going to be in
- 12:49Speaker 6: on this high end. When I say high end, Robert Suarez,
- 12:53Speaker 6: Devin Williams and Edwin Diaz and then obviously you know
- 12:57Speaker 6: you have Pete Fairbanks and you have the next level.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yeah no, I think if you already have a closure,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you go get another one, right. I mean, that's that's
- 13:06Speaker 3: what I want. I want as many as I can
- 13:07Speaker 3: to shorten up that game. You know, if I'm the
- 13:09Speaker 3: Padres last year, I loved having Mason Miller and swore
- 13:12Speaker 3: as late late in the games. I felt really good
- 13:14Speaker 3: about my chances if I had a lead late. You know,
- 13:17Speaker 3: if you're the New York Yankees, I know David Bennar
- 13:19Speaker 3: was great for them. Let's go at Edwin Diaz to that.
- 13:22Speaker 3: You know he could pitch in New York. You know
- 13:23Speaker 3: he can handle it. I absolutely want that to close.
- 13:27Speaker 3: If I'm the Yankees. If I'm the Dodgers and I'm
- 13:30Speaker 3: Dave Roberts, I'm so sick and tired of having to
- 13:33Speaker 3: mix and match and look Sasaki they want him to start.
- 13:37Speaker 3: So if he's gonna start, who's gonna close. It's not
- 13:39Speaker 3: gonna be Blake Trinin. I know they went through a
- 13:41Speaker 3: lot of injuries. And they tried Tanner Scott. Sorry it
- 13:43Speaker 3: didn't work. It should have it didn't. I get it.
- 13:45Speaker 3: But if I'm them, I want Diez or Suarez or
- 13:48Speaker 3: Devin Williams or Fairbanks or Iglesias. So I think both
- 13:52Speaker 3: of those teams. The Cubs and Twins have both told
- 13:54Speaker 3: me their priority this entire offseason is to rebuild their
- 13:58Speaker 3: bullpens because they don't have anybody. Pelatios is the only
- 14:01Speaker 3: one back with the Cubs. The Twins traded their entire
- 14:04Speaker 3: bullpen at the deadline, so they're gonna be playing. The
- 14:06Speaker 3: Tigers are gonna be playing. The Braves have to play
- 14:09Speaker 3: after losing Iglesias. Michaelias says, the Oriels are gonna play.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Mike Casen says they're gonna play, The Giants are gonna play,
- 14:15Speaker 3: the Rangers are gonna play, and the Reds are gonna play.
- 14:17Speaker 3: They're all after that, and there's not enough to go around.
- 14:19Speaker 3: By the way, I think the closers market, I think
- 14:22Speaker 3: they're gonna get paid.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Now.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I'm not saying I'm not saying they're gonna get the
- 14:25Speaker 3: Josh Hayter deal, but I think Diaz wants it. I
- 14:28Speaker 3: think he wants that fifth year, and I think he
- 14:30Speaker 3: wants to beat hater, and I don't know, maybe someone's
- 14:32Speaker 3: gonna pay it. I don't know. And I was guessing
- 14:35Speaker 3: more like four years eighty eight million for Diez and
- 14:38Speaker 3: four and eighty for Suarez. But you know what, I
- 14:41Speaker 3: always try to overshoot and I end up undershooting. I
- 14:44Speaker 3: thought Naylor would get ninety million. He's gonna get close
- 14:47Speaker 3: to one hundred million, So you know, you know how
- 14:50Speaker 3: these things work. But yeah, it's a fun closers market,
- 14:52Speaker 3: for sure, closers.
- 14:54Speaker 5: One thing that doesn't need a closer is the Boston
- 14:57Speaker 5: Red Sox with what a role as Chapman did. What
- 14:59Speaker 5: do you see them doing? Are they gonna get Bregman back?
- 15:02Speaker 5: Are they gonna go for another starter? Are they gonna
- 15:04Speaker 5: find a bat? Is Pete Alonso maybe in the lick
- 15:07Speaker 5: mix for Boston? What do you see Boston doing? Because
- 15:09Speaker 5: they were close, but they still have some big holes.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Yeah, so I can only tell you exactly what Craig
- 15:16Speaker 3: Reslo says. Number one goal is to get a number
- 15:18Speaker 3: two starter, and the second goal is to get a
- 15:21Speaker 3: right handed hitting corner infielder and then add some bullpen depth.
- 15:26Speaker 3: So you know that's what he's telling other gms, So
- 15:29Speaker 3: one hundred percent believe that that's what they're gonna do. Now,
- 15:32Speaker 3: what does that mean? I think, could they play for
- 15:35Speaker 3: schoobl Sure, they've got enough to get it done. Could
- 15:37Speaker 3: they play for Freddie Peroult if he's traded, Sure, again,
- 15:41Speaker 3: they have enough to get that done. Or do you
- 15:43Speaker 3: just go to free agency and try to get Dylan
- 15:45Speaker 3: Ceese or fran Beervaldez or one of those top end starters.
- 15:49Speaker 3: They certainly have the income and the revenue and the
- 15:52Speaker 3: payroll flexibility to do that. And then in terms of
- 15:55Speaker 3: the corner infielder, you know, if I were them, and
- 15:58Speaker 3: this is not coming from them, it's just me, I
- 16:01Speaker 3: would want Bob Baschette to play third base. That's my
- 16:03Speaker 3: first goal. I love the bat, I love the hitter,
- 16:05Speaker 3: I like the kid. I like him at third base
- 16:08Speaker 3: or second base. You could put him at second and
- 16:10Speaker 3: Marcelo Meyer at third base, with Story at shortstop. And
- 16:14Speaker 3: in terms of first base, you know, I think Pete A.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Lonzo would be phenomenal there. I know he doesn't fit
- 16:20Speaker 3: what they want because they want to improve defense. Run
- 16:23Speaker 3: prevention very important to Creig Breslo, But imagine Alonzo because
- 16:28Speaker 3: he plays every day, one hundred and sixty two games
- 16:30Speaker 3: each of the last two years, one hundred and fifty
- 16:32Speaker 3: two games of war five years in a row, averages
- 16:34Speaker 3: thirty five home runs a year. Great clubhouse guy, can
- 16:37Speaker 3: handle the big market. Can you imagine how many dense
- 16:39Speaker 3: he'd put in the Green Monster. They probably have to
- 16:42Speaker 3: replace the Green Monster by the end of the year.
- 16:44Speaker 3: And what would he do to Roman Anthony? What would
- 16:46Speaker 3: he do for a break, what would he do for
- 16:49Speaker 3: the middle of that lineup? Take all the pressure off.
- 16:52Speaker 3: I think it would be a great fit for them.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I know they don't love him defensively, but look, even
- 16:56Speaker 3: when he ends up being a DH in three or
- 16:58Speaker 3: four years, you're gonna have the D eight spot open.
- 17:01Speaker 3: So I think that makes a lot of sense. And
- 17:03Speaker 3: if not, you know, bring Bregman back. So, whether it's Bashett,
- 17:06Speaker 3: Alonso or bregnant I love any one of those three
- 17:09Speaker 3: choices for them, But they're going to get that number
- 17:12Speaker 3: two starter. That's the one thing I'm totally convinced of.
- 17:15Speaker 2: From Boston to San Diego, Jim, let me ask you this.
- 17:18Speaker 2: We have a fan asking this question. Owl of Minerva
- 17:21Speaker 2: wants to ask you what's going on in San Diego.
- 17:24Speaker 2: They think that they're going to blow up the team. Obviously,
- 17:27Speaker 2: it has been said that the team is looking for
- 17:29Speaker 2: new ownership. Perhaps, what do you think happens there? What
- 17:32Speaker 2: does AJ Prelo need to focus on.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Yeah, they're not blowing the team up right now. They're
- 17:37Speaker 3: not going to blow it up for twenty six. They're
- 17:39Speaker 3: going to run back as much as they can, and
- 17:41Speaker 3: AJ Preller is going to spend the winner trying to
- 17:44Speaker 3: get enough starting pitching that's affordable that can allow them to,
- 17:49Speaker 3: you know, be in the playoff hunt, make it as
- 17:52Speaker 3: a wild card and see if they can't run the
- 17:53Speaker 3: table in October. So they're not trading tatisse. I saw
- 17:56Speaker 3: a roomer out there somewhere. That's not happening. They're not trading. Oh,
- 18:00Speaker 3: they can't trade boguards because no one's gonna ever take
- 18:03Speaker 3: that contract. So you know this is going to be
- 18:05Speaker 3: the team. I think they'd like to get one more bat,
- 18:07Speaker 3: but they need at least two starting pitchers and they
- 18:10Speaker 3: don't have a lot of money to spend to get
- 18:12Speaker 3: those pictures. So AJ's got to be creative. This farm
- 18:15Speaker 3: system isn't what it once was, so he doesn't have
- 18:18Speaker 3: the trade assets that he used to have to make
- 18:20Speaker 3: a lot of the trades that he's made. But you know,
- 18:24Speaker 3: I trust Aj. He's a wheeler, a dealer. He never sleeps.
- 18:27Speaker 3: He'll outwork everybody. Literally, I think he gets three hours
- 18:30Speaker 3: sleep a night. So I think you'll figure out a way.
- 18:33Speaker 3: But the Padres are not going to blow it up.
- 18:35Speaker 3: They're going to go back and win. And yes, I
- 18:38Speaker 3: think the team at some point is going to be
- 18:39Speaker 3: sold and hopefully someone will come in with enough financial
- 18:42Speaker 3: wherewithal to handle all of the financial exposure. They're going
- 18:46Speaker 3: to inherit on the books and hopefully treat it as
- 18:49Speaker 3: a hobby and be able to spend more money.
- 18:51Speaker 6: You're in Preller's position, exact position they've just explained. You
- 18:55Speaker 6: need a starter. Do you go to Mason Miller and say,
- 18:58Speaker 6: do you want to be our starter? Because we have
- 19:01Speaker 6: Jeremiah Strada already that could be a closer. Whether they
- 19:04Speaker 6: think that or not, I don't know. But do you,
- 19:06Speaker 6: as a GM make a suggestion or do you need
- 19:10Speaker 6: Mason Miller to come to me and say I'd like
- 19:13Speaker 6: to be a starter, knowing how much value that is
- 19:15Speaker 6: for him as a start to be a starter well.
- 19:18Speaker 3: As a former gm AN evaluator. I'll tell you Mason
- 19:20Speaker 3: Miller would be a starting pitcher if I had to
- 19:23Speaker 3: say to it. I remember talking to Mason Miller during
- 19:27Speaker 3: the All Star Game, not this year, the year before
- 19:30Speaker 3: in Texas, and I asked him about starting, and he
- 19:33Speaker 3: basically said that he wanted to close. He doesn't want
- 19:35Speaker 3: to start. He said, I tried that it didn't work,
- 19:37Speaker 3: And I said, yeah, but you didn't really give it
- 19:39Speaker 3: enough time. You have the stuff. There's no doubt in
- 19:42Speaker 3: my mind, you can develop into an ACE, a number
- 19:45Speaker 3: one starter. I do believe that. So I think if
- 19:47Speaker 3: I had Mason Miller and I was AJ Preller and
- 19:50Speaker 3: Craig Stammon, I would be doing everything possible to try
- 19:54Speaker 3: to convince him to start and develop, because I do
- 19:57Speaker 3: believe that he could become that ACE, and that's what
- 19:59Speaker 3: I would try to do. But you have to keep
- 20:01Speaker 3: in mind that the pitcher doesn't want to do it.
- 20:04Speaker 3: You know, a lot of times it won't work.
- 20:06Speaker 6: You know.
- 20:07Speaker 3: We interviewed Craig Stammon the other day on MLB Network
- 20:10Speaker 3: Radio and it sounds like that he's gonna be his
- 20:13Speaker 3: high leverage laden and guy, and it doesn't sound like
- 20:17Speaker 3: starting it's going to be something they're going to consider.
- 20:20Speaker 3: But I'm with you one hundred percent, Eric, I would
- 20:22Speaker 3: start him if it were up to me. I love
- 20:24Speaker 3: this stuff.
- 20:25Speaker 5: One thing you had on your column was about Adlei Rutchman.
- 20:28Speaker 5: What the Orioles think about trading him for real? And
- 20:30Speaker 5: is it because Basiya was there and they signed him
- 20:32Speaker 5: to the long term deal and they're going to pick
- 20:34Speaker 5: the guy who they know has already signed because this
- 20:37Speaker 5: would be a large shift for the Orioles to make
- 20:39Speaker 5: a move like this.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think he's gonna get moved. I think
- 20:43Speaker 3: the reason they're fielding so many calls is there's a
- 20:45Speaker 3: surprising number of teams that are chasing catchers right now.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Usually don't see this kind of demand, and so those
- 20:52Speaker 3: teams that need a catcher, they make the call of
- 20:55Speaker 3: Baltimore because everyone saw the contract that Basio got and
- 20:59Speaker 3: they all also understand the Oriols are not going to
- 21:02Speaker 3: be able to extend Rechmond long term and he's going
- 21:05Speaker 3: to get to eventually get the free agency. So you know,
- 21:08Speaker 3: by kicking the tires and calling and trying to get
- 21:11Speaker 3: him now I think makes a lot of sense. I
- 21:13Speaker 3: don't think Retchman has even touched what he's capable of doing.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I've said it before, I'll say it again. I think
- 21:18Speaker 3: he has a chance to be an MVP caliber player
- 21:21Speaker 3: in time. I don't think he's been developed right, and
- 21:24Speaker 3: I think he's still going to get there. And I
- 21:25Speaker 3: think there's a lot of GMS that I think the
- 21:27Speaker 3: same way. But I think Michael Ayas job probably on
- 21:31Speaker 3: the line this year, and I would tend to think
- 21:34Speaker 3: the only way he would trade him is if he
- 21:36Speaker 3: got so much pitching back in a trade that he
- 21:39Speaker 3: felt like he had to do it. I think more
- 21:41Speaker 3: likely he holds on to his position players and then
- 21:45Speaker 3: just puts all his time and effort into starting pitching
- 21:48Speaker 3: and relief help. And I think he's going to commit
- 21:51Speaker 3: at least one long term, expensive free agent starter this offseason.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I think he learned his lesson last year, as David
- 21:58Speaker 3: Stearns did in New York. You can try it out
- 22:01Speaker 3: smart people by these short term, high risk starters, it
- 22:04Speaker 3: normally is not gonna work out. So I think it's
- 22:07Speaker 3: focused is going to be on that. But I don't
- 22:09Speaker 3: blame teams for calling him on Retchman, I would too.
- 22:14Speaker 7: AJ, We're gonna do things a little bit differently here.
- 22:17Speaker 7: I am wearing the Perfect Gene and I remember seeing
- 22:20Speaker 7: ads for the Perfect Gene like most comfortable fit ever,
- 22:24Speaker 7: perfect fit on your body, and I was like, I'm
- 22:28Speaker 7: not buying it. Now I'm buying it, and we're showing
- 22:32Speaker 7: it off on FT.
- 22:33Speaker 5: Please please get off my desk. First of all, Scott,
- 22:35Speaker 5: Second of all, I was with you. I was skeptical
- 22:37Speaker 5: about Perfect Gene and then I got a pair and
- 22:39Speaker 5: the fitting was perfect and my body's not hard to
- 22:42Speaker 5: fix is I got a big old rear and big
- 22:44Speaker 5: old legs from Lars of Squatting and they fit perfectly.
- 22:46Speaker 5: They're stretchy, they're comfortable, they're fashionable. They're everything I look
- 22:50Speaker 5: for in a gene. And now I have an extra
- 22:52Speaker 5: pair and I'm gonna wear them all the time.

- 23:14Speaker 1: All right, guys.
- 23:15Speaker 2: The Los Angeles Dodgers seek to become the first team
- 23:18Speaker 2: since the nineteen ninety eight to two thousand New York
- 23:20Speaker 2: Yankees to win three consecutive titles. Are they gonna do it?
- 23:24Speaker 3: Aj?
- 23:25Speaker 1: And if so?
- 23:25Speaker 4: How?
- 23:27Speaker 3: Oh?
- 23:28Speaker 4: I don't think they are? Don't. I don't.
- 23:29Speaker 5: How do they do it? I mean, they just continue
- 23:31Speaker 5: to build on the roster they have. Do I think
- 23:33Speaker 5: they will. I think they won't. I think their starting
- 23:35Speaker 5: pitching is going to be beat up. They got to
- 23:37Speaker 5: find some bullpen. Hell, they're a year older on the
- 23:40Speaker 5: position player side. Sorry Ilana, but I don't think they're
- 23:43Speaker 5: gonna win three in a row. They maybe should have
- 23:46Speaker 5: won two in a row. The Blue Jays kind of
- 23:47Speaker 5: had them made some critical errors which the Dodgers don't do.
- 23:51Speaker 5: But I think with another year, another long postseason run,
- 23:54Speaker 5: I think they're not going to be They'll make the playoffs,
- 23:56Speaker 5: of course, but I think somebody will figure out a
- 23:58Speaker 5: way to take them out.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I understand that's fair. I mean, listen, I'll take back
- 24:03Speaker 2: to back. I don't expect a three pet It's difficult
- 24:05Speaker 2: to do in any sport, certainly in baseball. You guys
- 24:07Speaker 2: know that, Eric, if you are the Dodgers, it seems
- 24:10Speaker 2: like LA is the destination for Japanese top pitching prospects.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Do you go after the two prospects in terms of
- 24:19Speaker 2: I guess I have to learn some new names, right
- 24:21Speaker 2: Munataka Murakami and is it.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Am I email? How am i? Okay?
- 24:28Speaker 2: Do you go after either of those two guys to
- 24:30Speaker 2: join Shohei Otani and Roki Sasaki and Yoshinobu Yamamoto am I?
- 24:36Speaker 4: Yes, am I.
- 24:38Speaker 6: I would go after him because of the fact that
- 24:40Speaker 6: you can always use pitching.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Clearly they showed that this year. Clearly everybody was like.
- 24:44Speaker 6: How can you have nine or ten quality starters to
- 24:48Speaker 6: start the year? Like you see how you can do it? So, yes,
- 24:52Speaker 6: I see them going after am I, and I think
- 24:54Speaker 6: that's probably their easier get if you're saying one of
- 24:57Speaker 6: the two, because Munataki more COMI kind of plays the
- 25:02Speaker 6: positions they've already had. Whether you believe like aj like
- 25:06Speaker 6: that they're getting older. You don't need a you don't
- 25:10Speaker 6: need somebody to be to replace Max Montcy at third base.
- 25:14Speaker 6: Yet he's you know, he's gonna coming up on one
- 25:17Speaker 6: more year deal. He'll probably sign some kind of extension
- 25:20Speaker 6: like he keeps doing. Obviously, Freddy has not lost a
- 25:24Speaker 6: beat as opposed to what Dombrowski said. But you know,
- 25:28Speaker 6: I think they're they're locked in and you can't bring
- 25:30Speaker 6: in a dh because of what Showhy does. So more
- 25:33Speaker 6: kami no, but am I I mean worst worst comes
- 25:37Speaker 6: to worse, like the guy slides to the bullpen. You
- 25:40Speaker 6: need six starters, So essentially you probably need about eight
- 25:44Speaker 6: to nine starters to start the season because very few
- 25:48Speaker 6: of them. I mean, I was super impressed a Yamamoto
- 25:50Speaker 6: got to thirty starts. You might they might want to
- 25:53Speaker 6: back that down a little bit, so you need more guys.
- 25:55Speaker 6: And I have a hard time believing that his teammates
- 25:59Speaker 6: on Team Samurai would not be would not at least
- 26:03Speaker 6: give a ringing vote of confidence to the Dodgers.
- 26:07Speaker 2: By the way, Yoshiobu Yamamoto just adopted a dog out
- 26:10Speaker 2: of an LA shelter by the name of Carlos. So
- 26:13Speaker 2: not only is he the greatest picture on the face
- 26:15Speaker 2: of the planet ever, to live. He also adopts his pets,
- 26:18Speaker 2: but that's neither here nor there. Aj Pierzinski, let me
- 26:21Speaker 2: ask you this baby. And Ardaya, who writes for the Athletics,
- 26:24Speaker 2: said that Devin Williams was emerging as a Dodgers leverage
- 26:28Speaker 2: reliever target. We just talked to Jim Bowden about it.
- 26:31Speaker 2: In terms of the closer market. Do you think Devin
- 26:34Speaker 2: Williams makes sense in LA?
- 26:37Speaker 5: It makes sense everywhere, especially as a bounce back candidate.
- 26:39Speaker 5: I think he was better towards the end of the year.
- 26:41Speaker 5: I think the Dodgers figure stuff out that a lot
- 26:44Speaker 5: of other teams haven't figured out. I think he would
- 26:46Speaker 5: be a great guy, you know, if he'd be your closer.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:48Speaker 5: They're hoping Tanner Scott comes back from his butt surgery,
- 26:51Speaker 5: like trying to bounces back after a down year, you know,
- 26:54Speaker 5: And they have a lot of options down there.
- 26:56Speaker 4: So do I think he'd be a great fit.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Yeah, there's about fifteen other teams too be a great
- 27:00Speaker 5: fit for So it's nice to be a reliever in
- 27:03Speaker 5: this market. And yeah, I think you fit in l
- 27:05Speaker 5: A and and a lot of places.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Is the closer market this year?
- 27:09Speaker 2: Aj and Eric the shortstop market two years ago seems
- 27:13Speaker 2: like there's a lot of good closers, but there was
- 27:16Speaker 2: a lot of really good shortstops.
- 27:18Speaker 1: A couple of years ago. We were kind of wondering
- 27:19Speaker 1: who was going to go first? At what price and where?
- 27:23Speaker 1: Is it kind of similar to that anybody?
- 27:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so, No, I think I think you're right.
- 27:33Speaker 5: I think it's who's going to go where and who's
- 27:35Speaker 5: going to be the first dominant of fall.
- 27:36Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 27:37Speaker 5: And then once it once a team like LA reaches
- 27:40Speaker 5: their the guy their guy then and then the next
- 27:41Speaker 5: guy going the next team will go in the next team.
- 27:43Speaker 5: I mean, I guess the top guy would be Edwin Diaz.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Right where does Edwin Diaz go? Does he go back
- 27:46Speaker 5: to the Mets? He's going to kind of set the market,
- 27:49Speaker 5: and then once he's off the board, it's going to
- 27:50Speaker 5: be like pew.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Pew pee pee pee pee pee pee pee.
- 27:52Speaker 5: Pew, because then there's going to be a run because
- 27:54Speaker 5: then whoever think, whoever you think the next guy is
- 27:56Speaker 5: is going to say, well, if Edwin Diaz got this,
- 27:58Speaker 5: and then the teams will come to him. Right, So
- 28:00Speaker 5: it starts off with if you think Diez is the
- 28:02Speaker 5: top guy, then the next guy, the next guy, the
- 28:03Speaker 5: next guy, and teams, and then as they start getting
- 28:06Speaker 5: more and more in their price range, teams are gonna
- 28:08Speaker 5: start picking these guys off pretty quick.
- 28:12Speaker 6: Yeah, that was a big that was a big shortstop market.
- 28:15Speaker 6: I was trying to think who all was on that market.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I mean, that was your story, Korea.
- 28:22Speaker 4: Da Xander. I get it.
- 28:25Speaker 6: But here's the thing with the closer market. I'm not
- 28:28Speaker 6: saying this is gonna happen, but people were up in
- 28:31Speaker 6: arms about it last year when the Dodgers just kept
- 28:33Speaker 6: getting every good closer or every good bullpen piece that
- 28:37Speaker 6: was out there, Like, teams have to move. You can't like,
- 28:42Speaker 6: this isn't musical chairs and say, oh well, I'm out, Like,
- 28:45Speaker 6: if you need a closer to me, you gotta move.
- 28:49Speaker 6: They're out there. You have three, you have three high
- 28:52Speaker 6: end elite choices. Yes, Devin Williams had a bad year
- 28:58Speaker 6: this year, But to me, I think it's it's very
- 29:00Speaker 6: simple to just look at his usage and how it
- 29:04Speaker 6: compared to what he was doing, and what counts with
- 29:07Speaker 6: the Brewers compared to what he was doing and what.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Counts with the Yankee.
- 29:12Speaker 6: So I think he's up there with the other two guys,
- 29:15Speaker 6: and I just think you have to move. You have
- 29:19Speaker 6: to move, don't. I don't think it's quite as deep,
- 29:22Speaker 6: but there is a It's easily the deepest position this
- 29:26Speaker 6: offseason by far.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the carousel of closers in Los Angeles is a
- 29:30Speaker 2: pain in the ass. No pun intended with what Tanner
- 29:33Speaker 2: Scott's going through. Kile af both of you guys. This
- 29:35Speaker 2: next question though, Dalton Rushing is now the backup catcher
- 29:38Speaker 2: to Will Smith and Los Angeles. Ben Rtvett was claimed
- 29:42Speaker 2: off of waivers by Cincinnati. Are you okay with Rushing
- 29:45Speaker 2: as the backup to Will Smith?
- 29:47Speaker 3: AJ?
- 29:48Speaker 4: Yeah, he did it this year. He proved it.
- 29:49Speaker 5: That's what they think he's going to be, apparently, because
- 29:51Speaker 5: otherwise they, you know, try to trade him and move him.
- 29:54Speaker 5: Maybe that's they still will But the bigger question is Rortvett.
- 29:57Speaker 5: He's gonna be the third catcher in Cincinnati because they
- 29:59Speaker 5: have Stevenson int who's signed to a deal. So where's
- 30:02Speaker 5: the work that fited for Cincinnati? I guess if one
- 30:04Speaker 5: of them gets hurt. But that was more surprising to
- 30:07Speaker 5: me than anything.
- 30:09Speaker 1: What about you, Eric, I don't think he should.
- 30:11Speaker 6: And I've said this for a while, I don't think
- 30:13Speaker 6: Dalton Rushing should be the backup. I think he's much
- 30:16Speaker 6: better than the backup and then then a backup situation.
- 30:21Speaker 6: But it's where he's at right now. The Dodgers have
- 30:24Speaker 6: a have one of the best, if not the top
- 30:28Speaker 6: three catchers in the game and Will Smith, and they yes,
- 30:31Speaker 6: I get it, they need to give him days off
- 30:34Speaker 6: so he doesn't wear down at the end of the season.
- 30:36Speaker 6: But you saw this year he wasn't wearing down at
- 30:38Speaker 6: the end of the season. His numbers were great. A
- 30:41Speaker 6: freak injury, and to me, if they had the ability
- 30:45Speaker 6: to upgrade with Dalton Rushing, I think it would be
- 30:48Speaker 6: great for him, and I think it would also be
- 30:51Speaker 6: great for the team to say, yes, we can go
- 30:54Speaker 6: get a backup catcher in some type of role and
- 30:57Speaker 6: we can get something, in my opinion, pretty huge, because
- 31:01Speaker 6: if you end up having Dalton Rushing be the backup
- 31:04Speaker 6: for the next two or three years, it is really
- 31:07Speaker 6: tough to put up numbers, and as a player you
- 31:10Speaker 6: can still become a starter later, but as a team,
- 31:14Speaker 6: his value will just decrease because right now he's a
- 31:18Speaker 6: dude that was in the minor leagues, prospect a lot
- 31:21Speaker 6: of hype, played all the time, and you're going to
- 31:24Speaker 6: the big leagues and you're just not playing very much.
- 31:27Speaker 6: So you're just not going to get the same value
- 31:30Speaker 6: years from now or even a year from now, if
- 31:32Speaker 6: he continues to amass one hundred and eighty to two
- 31:36Speaker 6: hundred at bats when I thought what he did in
- 31:38Speaker 6: the minor leagues was enough to be a starter in
- 31:40Speaker 6: the big leagues.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Let me ask you this, though, Is it better to
- 31:43Speaker 2: be a starter on the Pittsburgh Pirates or a backup
- 31:47Speaker 2: for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Depends if you want to get paid or not. Okay,
- 31:55Speaker 4: I think if you're a starter, if you're.
- 31:56Speaker 5: The starter, you're always going to get You're always want
- 31:58Speaker 5: to be the starter because you're i That's how you
- 32:00Speaker 5: make your money and establish a career. How there are
- 32:03Speaker 5: guys that are backups, but they usually don't get paid
- 32:05Speaker 5: the amount that the starter gets. And if you're good
- 32:08Speaker 5: enough to be a starter, like most people believe Dalton
- 32:10Speaker 5: Rushing is, it'd be better to go be a starter.
- 32:12Speaker 5: But right now the Dodgers ain't doing it, So you
- 32:14Speaker 5: know what he happy as a backup and try to
- 32:16Speaker 5: win another ring because he had some big at bats
- 32:19Speaker 5: and he had some big games for the Dodgers.
- 32:22Speaker 6: Totally, that's what that's what his mindset has to be.
- 32:26Speaker 6: And it doesn't mean he doesn't want to win. If
- 32:28Speaker 6: he would say, if his answer would truly be no,
- 32:31Speaker 6: I want to be the starter for the Pirates because
- 32:33Speaker 6: early in your career, rarely do you get a chance
- 32:36Speaker 6: to you know, see winning. And now he's in winning,
- 32:41Speaker 6: but early in your career you're also like, I want
- 32:43Speaker 6: to maximize what my career can absolutely be. And so
- 32:47Speaker 6: to me, if it were up to him, which it's not,
- 32:51Speaker 6: I would say I want to be a starter, just
- 32:54Speaker 6: the same as I was talking about with Mason Miller.
- 32:56Speaker 6: Mason Miller is a tremendous all star closer, but if
- 33:00Speaker 6: you want to maximize what you can do, being a
- 33:03Speaker 6: starter is a challenge, which players love challenges. But it's
- 33:08Speaker 6: also so much more value for him if he becomes successful,
- 33:13Speaker 6: and no players like, well, I don't know if I'll
- 33:15Speaker 6: be successful or not. No, of course, you like, that's
- 33:17Speaker 6: what you're gonna do, so you might as well go
- 33:20Speaker 6: to the position that would make would make you the
- 33:23Speaker 6: most money. And have the best career you can have
- 33:25Speaker 6: because your careers are short.
