Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You know when you come from Detroit, you know that
- 0:02Speaker 1: this guest has to be special to be on this show.
- 0:06Speaker 1: The official laugh fucked it up. Let's start all over again.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hey guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm your host, Colleen Witt, and today we have special
- 0:18Speaker 1: guest actor, comedian all the way from Detroit. Spanky Hayes
- 0:23Speaker 1: is in the building. Yes, ma'am, and I'm really excited
- 0:26Speaker 1: about this moment because this is full circle. We go
- 0:29Speaker 1: way back, way back, you know, way back. I was
- 0:34Speaker 1: fresh from New York when I knew you.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I was still rocking a lot of times, I think, yeah,
- 0:41Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of tens.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So we go way back, yeah too, way back. And
- 1:13Speaker 1: that's good for this episode because I know where to
- 1:15Speaker 1: dig and search for all the crumbs. But speaking of crumbs, Spanky,
- 1:22Speaker 1: we gotta know what you was eating while you were broke.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Okay, so this is pretty simple. You have rice right here,
- 1:32Speaker 3: and you have tuna. You got butter, and then you
- 1:34Speaker 3: got hot sauce.
- 1:38Speaker 1: So when we went back and forth on you know
- 1:41Speaker 1: what is Spanky gonna eat? And Spanky said tuna and rice,
- 1:44Speaker 1: and I was like huh like, And so even before
- 1:49Speaker 1: you got here, it was like, I would have loved
- 1:51Speaker 1: to like prepared for you, but I was like, there
- 1:53Speaker 1: has to be missing ingredients, because surely it can't be
- 1:56Speaker 1: tuna rice. And this is how desperate I was. Usually
- 2:00Speaker 1: I buy the tuna in water, but because you said
- 2:03Speaker 1: tuna and rice, I said, well, maybe he needs some
- 2:05Speaker 1: soft tuna so that the tuna in oil.
- 2:08Speaker 3: That's how that's not bad.
- 2:09Speaker 4: That's because I was like, surely there's missing ingredients.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But this is a true classic broke dish that has
- 2:15Speaker 1: never been done on this show. We have to search
- 2:19Speaker 1: hard for it. So I'm super excited because that means
- 2:22Speaker 1: the broker the dish, as you guys know, the better
- 2:25Speaker 1: the stories.
- 2:26Speaker 3: There we go, there we go.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So seeing that you didn't have to cook it, let's
- 2:31Speaker 1: watch you prep this dish and walk us through it.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Because most of our audience is listening, not.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Watching, okay, So for the listeners that should be watching,
- 2:43Speaker 3: I would just take some rice right here. Then I
- 2:47Speaker 3: would like, let's take some button.
- 2:51Speaker 1: And hot though yeah I think it's like.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Warm ish, Yes, it's melting a little bit.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, so you put butter in the rice. Okay, okay,
- 3:10Speaker 1: like tastes buttery. Yeah, trust me, I'm a butter fan.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I like every dish.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I tell people I go through like a stick of
- 3:18Speaker 4: butter probably every.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Three dishes I make. That's how much butter I go through.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I'll take a whole stick of butter in fire steak.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Oh, I feel like I would want to eat that steak.
- 3:30Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Really Okay, what seasonings do you put though?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Just like Lauri season salt. Lauri's again some kind of
- 3:45Speaker 3: like garlic.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So, guys, I'm watching him mash the butter into the
- 3:50Speaker 1: rice and it's going down. Okay. You know, I had
- 3:56Speaker 1: someone on the show I think they did like eggs running,
- 3:58Speaker 1: eggs and rice, and it was actually, you're pretty good.
- 4:00Speaker 3: So I could see that running.
- 4:03Speaker 1: See that you your eggs running.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I like, I like all kinds of eggs. Yeah, but
- 4:07Speaker 3: I can see that, like if you got like salmon
- 4:09Speaker 3: coquettes and you got rice and then you got eggs,
- 4:12Speaker 3: so then maybe the eggs kind of go over into
- 4:14Speaker 3: the rice. I can see that.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So is this a dish that you would eat on
- 4:19Speaker 1: the road or is this like a dish you eight
- 4:21Speaker 1: when you broke?
- 4:23Speaker 3: I used to eat this when I was totally broke.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I could only thing. I would have to have somebody
- 4:30Speaker 3: make the rice for me. But it's so easy to
- 4:33Speaker 3: steal tula. You know what I'm saying out of the supermarket.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Did you say steal?
- 4:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean if I had to, if I had
- 4:43Speaker 3: to steal, you know what I'm saying. So it was great, Okay,
- 4:46Speaker 3: And then okay, I think I think.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Well the cool thing about you know today's episode. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: am an avid sponsor of the minute rice you put
- 4:56Speaker 1: in a microwave a minute in thirty seconds, some of
- 4:59Speaker 1: the best rice money can buy. Okay, here's here. You
- 5:04Speaker 1: can make both at the same time. So we got
- 5:07Speaker 1: the rice the buttery rice in a bowl.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna keep it real
- 5:16Speaker 4: for all y'all listeners, see if this really hits.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So, I was gonna ask you how many times have
- 5:20Speaker 3: you not liked the dish?
- 5:22Speaker 1: There are a couple of dishes that I definitely will
- 5:25Speaker 1: never eat again. And that was the tuna casserole shout
- 5:27Speaker 1: outs to Uplift the Marketplace. I actually hated that dish.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And then uh, the pickled egg by Miss Jackson.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Was that sounds terrible.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Those are the only two dishes that like, I'll never
- 5:40Speaker 1: eat in life.
- 5:43Speaker 3: So now, if you like hot sauce, no, you don't
- 5:46Speaker 3: like hot Nope. Okay, so don't put that. So you
- 5:50Speaker 3: might want to put like maybe just a.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Little assault, okay, just a little, but the bowl the
- 5:56Speaker 1: butter has salted.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Okay, you wanted them healthy.
- 6:00Speaker 1: No, I'm not. I just I'm just not from Cali
- 6:03Speaker 1: and I can't do that. Can I take this one?
- 6:05Speaker 3: Sure? Yeah? Okay, so you said so that's oh so I.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Just okay, that's it. That's it, because you don't want
- 6:15Speaker 1: me having a heart attack while interviewing. I was interviewing
- 6:19Speaker 1: someone I was interviewing and I think they put a
- 6:21Speaker 1: lot of.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Hot sauce and it was too much. So I'm guessing
- 6:24Speaker 4: we're just gonna mix it.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Yeah, just you just get in there and do it.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I thought for sure you were forgetting like mayo or.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Something that'll be like a sandwich.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Okay, let's see, let's see, let's see if it's hitting,
- 6:39Speaker 1: let's see.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Hold on, tell me what do you think?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Surprisingly, No, I'm gonna break this because this dish costs
- 6:54Speaker 1: like three dollars and you can. You could literally make
- 6:57Speaker 1: a couple of them because I did two cans of tuna,
- 7:00Speaker 1: expensive packet of pre made rice. It was like two bucks.
- 7:05Speaker 3: You could put lemon, you could put let me tell you.
- 7:10Speaker 1: This can definitely hit and I I could see like
- 7:11Speaker 1: you adding lemon.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I'm really see see.
- 7:15Speaker 1: But if you're broke, for sure, for sure, this dish
- 7:20Speaker 1: will carry you through. I'm trying to tell you it's
- 7:23Speaker 1: like eating like a king on a budget though, because
- 7:25Speaker 1: you have your protein and you have a rice and
- 7:27Speaker 1: it's feeling.
- 7:28Speaker 3: You don't work out right after this, I'm not gonna lie.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I feel bad for my child because if I'm ever desperate,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna make this.
- 7:39Speaker 3: They're gonna love it.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I feel like my daughter would really love this. You're
- 7:43Speaker 1: probably gonna give this to school school. I come home
- 7:47Speaker 1: sometimes what am I gonna give her? But this is
- 7:49Speaker 1: actually brilliant.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I've been doing this.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Does this pre eat well too?
- 7:56Speaker 3: I don't know. I never tried to cook it.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I just always let me tell you perfect dish.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Thank you. See you were scared.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I was definitely scared because I was like, this is
- 8:11Speaker 1: this is gonna.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Be dry as hell, but good as long as it
- 8:14Speaker 3: got buttered and you got like some salt or is
- 8:16Speaker 3: like some lemon, or this hot sauce boom you own.
- 8:21Speaker 1: You've been sold by the way I'm eating it.
- 8:24Speaker 3: It's good, guys, sell.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Good, so I can get you to spell all the
- 8:30Speaker 1: team good.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Come on, I'm ready. I red tea.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's a great dish than you like.
- 8:39Speaker 1: If I'm ever struggling, that's going to be my go to.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And guys, it's better than ramen. If you've been eating
- 8:44Speaker 1: ramen for like weeks, switch it up. Do the right thing.
- 8:48Speaker 3: And then my family, my dad's side of the family
- 8:52Speaker 3: is from Cuba, so that's kind of where I got
- 8:55Speaker 3: it from, you know what I'm saying. But they would
- 8:57Speaker 3: do it like spam, but I don't like.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I hate Oh I tried spam on this show. That's
- 9:02Speaker 1: another thing. I'll never do spam. Thank you for reminding me.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I hate space. So those are my three will never
- 9:09Speaker 1: do again. I hate spam. I tried it.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Oh god, spam is terrible.
- 9:13Speaker 1: It's so salty, right, So I tried it with that.
- 9:18Speaker 1: You don't be great with this, Like if you do
- 9:19Speaker 1: the corn beef with the rice.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Maybe and an egg that might be good too.
- 9:25Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. You know, you're inspiring me.
- 9:27Speaker 3: So there we go. That's what we're here.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So take us back to what was going on during
- 9:31Speaker 1: this era.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Okay, I find myself still there sometimes.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Okay, I like that. I like that. So you've rolled
- 9:42Speaker 1: the roller coaster wave of having money and losing money,
- 9:46Speaker 1: having money and losing money, Oh my god, and then
- 9:48Speaker 1: you also rode the wave of popularity and being in and.
- 9:52Speaker 3: You know, out right right, I would say, so.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Why don't we do this since this dish is a
- 9:59Speaker 1: rolling Yeah, let's take us back. Take us back to Detroit,
- 10:05Speaker 1: what was going on.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Detroit is a great place to be from, but it's
- 10:13Speaker 3: very hard. Like people are hard, women are very hard.
- 10:21Speaker 3: It's like your daddy is mean, your granddaddy mean, it's
- 10:24Speaker 3: like that. It's like kind of like New York.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Well, i'll tell you this. I went to Detroit and
- 10:30Speaker 1: I didn't know what to think. It was like there
- 10:33Speaker 1: was maybe a block where there was two houses that
- 10:36Speaker 1: were legit, and then like everything around looked like a
- 10:39Speaker 1: bomb headed. And if it was California, they would have
- 10:42Speaker 1: revitalized the whole thing. But you're like, wait, y'all lived
- 10:45Speaker 1: here how long and it's still looking like.
- 10:47Speaker 3: This and it's a whole city like that.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm surprised when I go down to Detroit that people
- 10:53Speaker 1: it's so hard to see past your environment growing up
- 10:56Speaker 1: in it. But to get out of that environment, I
- 10:58Speaker 1: have so much respect for people because it's like, man, bro,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you had to see through the dirt. Yes, you had
- 11:04Speaker 1: to see your dreams through like I don't know you'd
- 11:08Speaker 1: have to. I don't know where do you get your
- 11:09Speaker 1: inspiration from in Detroit? Is it TV?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah? Because well it's so violent there and it's so
- 11:15Speaker 3: like you gotta like sell down on how far I
- 11:18Speaker 3: can go in here, but you gotta like sell drugs
- 11:21Speaker 3: and you gotta like do weird shit. Yeah, you know,
- 11:24Speaker 3: like from sixteen yeah yeah, So you're doing some crazy
- 11:30Speaker 3: stuff to get money. And then most of the time
- 11:32Speaker 3: your mother's at work because they have Chrystler forward and
- 11:35Speaker 3: like that. So a lot of people work in the plants,
- 11:38Speaker 3: but if you work in a plant, you work in
- 11:40Speaker 3: like twelve sixteen hours, so your parents are not around.
- 11:45Speaker 3: So you grow up like really fast, like so extremely fast.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You're growing up fast in Detroit. At what age do
- 11:52Speaker 1: you decide I'm leaving.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Soon as I graduated from high school, I said, you
- 11:57Speaker 3: know what, I can't I can't live and then I
- 12:01Speaker 3: was so disappointed. My grandmother lived in Harlem, New York,
- 12:04Speaker 3: so I would go there every summer, and then like once,
- 12:08Speaker 3: I was kind of too big, Like I could have
- 12:11Speaker 3: either moved there or moved to LA, but I just
- 12:13Speaker 3: chose to LA because I didn't know nothing about it.
- 12:17Speaker 1: So, but what inspired you to move? Did you know
- 12:19Speaker 1: you want to do comedy at that point or did
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know you wanted to be in the industry like
- 12:23Speaker 1: or you just wanted to get run me away from Detroit.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I had to get the f away from Detroit.
- 12:29Speaker 3: But I wanted to be an actor. I didn't even
- 12:32Speaker 3: want to do comedy. I wanted to be an actor,
- 12:35Speaker 3: and I thought in Detroit I couldn't like find a
- 12:38Speaker 3: way to do that. It was like no outlets really,
- 12:41Speaker 3: and then in New York it seems so serious. Yeah,
- 12:45Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Well, New York is also extremely fast paced compared to Detroit.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Ferry like extremely.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It's like if you go from Detroit to New York,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I mean, if you make it from Detroit straight to
- 12:56Speaker 1: New York. I mean you need them like an Olympic
- 13:00Speaker 1: metal because the pace is completely different.
- 13:04Speaker 3: You know, how we get there. I would leave at
- 13:06Speaker 3: ten o'clock at night on the bus from Detroit, and
- 13:10Speaker 3: like eleven o'clock, like in the before noon, I would
- 13:15Speaker 3: be in New York.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Okay. But even though you were familiar with New York,
- 13:19Speaker 1: you still chose La. Yeah, okay, So you arrive in
- 13:22Speaker 1: LA suitcase. What's going on? You're straight from high school.
- 13:26Speaker 1: What's your pockets looking like?
- 13:29Speaker 3: Nothing?
- 13:29Speaker 1: What's your connects looking like? Nowhere you have no connects nothing.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I just came out here.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Okay. So you come out here and I hate the picture.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I'm going to be a star. And I have my cousins,
- 13:41Speaker 3: some cousins out here already, and they were like, okay,
- 13:45Speaker 3: we heard that before. But I'm like, no, you don't
- 13:47Speaker 3: get it. I'm going to be a star.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So it's funny because everybody I meet from Detroit it
- 13:52Speaker 1: seems like that is how it goes down. It's like, no,
- 13:55Speaker 1: like when I moved out from New York, I didn't
- 13:57Speaker 1: have nobody to like commadrate with, but I see Detroit
- 14:00Speaker 1: people in the industry, they kind of stick together, like
- 14:04Speaker 1: they're like family. You guys have your own college. What
- 14:08Speaker 1: do you call it? Like fraternity? Almost you from Detroit? Okay?
- 14:11Speaker 1: What what? What a dope? You second you hear that,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you're like, oh, the fraternity just started, and you.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Know, it's crazy about that. It's like it's so many
- 14:22Speaker 3: comics that I that's from Detroit that I meet out
- 14:24Speaker 3: here that I didn't know in Detroit, but they just
- 14:27Speaker 3: instantly family.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the Detroit. Yeah, you guys have a ride
- 14:31Speaker 1: or die. I don't think New York has really had
- 14:34Speaker 1: that because we meet people from New York and it's like, Okay,
- 14:36Speaker 1: we're cool. But Detroit y'all is like, okay, you're a
- 14:39Speaker 1: part of my hood. Now what you need just call.
- 14:42Speaker 1: You know, you'll be crashing on each other's couches.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Couch surfing. I slept on thousands of couches.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, so you're in you're out here. How
- 14:54Speaker 1: long would you say you were struggling before you got
- 14:56Speaker 1: your first big opportunity?
- 14:59Speaker 3: Wow? Say about about five years?
- 15:05Speaker 1: Five years?
- 15:06Speaker 3: Yes, I was, Yeah, of strug and you're.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Only doing acting. You're not even doing comedy, right.
- 15:13Speaker 3: So when I got to LA, I started doing comedy
- 15:16Speaker 3: and well a little bit before that. But when I
- 15:19Speaker 3: got to La, I started seeing like Ricky Harris and
- 15:22Speaker 3: all these big guys, and I'm like, oh, okay, okay,
- 15:25Speaker 3: well I'm really in comedy now, so I took it
- 15:28Speaker 3: a little bit more serious, but it was it was
- 15:33Speaker 3: the beautiful struggle. I was broke. I used to have
- 15:37Speaker 3: to date fat girls that I don't like.
- 15:39Speaker 1: And to like survive eat, Yeah, stuff like that. It
- 15:44Speaker 1: seems to be the Detroit Player story of the year.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Detroit guy's move here. They're like, well, let's find abroad.
- 15:50Speaker 1: But it's weird because the culture in Detroit. You said,
- 15:53Speaker 1: the women are harder.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Right, yeah, so you can't do that to them in Detroit.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But in La it's like the land of the adopt
- 15:59Speaker 1: adopter by friend.
- 16:01Speaker 3: La is like the prettier girls they like give more
- 16:04Speaker 3: than nicer, you know. So that's beautiful truck girls. This
- 16:09Speaker 3: is beautiful Detroit girls. But it's just so hard to
- 16:12Speaker 3: talk to.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Defences are up well because Detroit.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Kind of like New York, because you like New York people,
- 16:19Speaker 3: girls they walk with the headphones on. You can't even
- 16:21Speaker 3: talk to you. So it's kind of like that.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I'm listening to my music.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Then, So now they don't even turn around. It's like yo, yo,
- 16:29Speaker 3: they just keep walking like yo the fuck. But yeah,
- 16:33Speaker 3: Detroit was horrible at the time. It's beautiful to be
- 16:36Speaker 3: from there because I knew what kind of real life was.
- 16:40Speaker 3: But then once I got indulged in La, it was
- 16:43Speaker 3: like I didn't go home for like eight years. So
- 16:46Speaker 3: my mom didn't see me for like eight years.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Oh you didn't even go back to visit.
- 16:50Speaker 3: No.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Wow.
- 16:51Speaker 1: So comedy scene in LA is notorious for not paying comics.
- 16:57Speaker 1: So which and what I've learned through eating while broke, guys,
- 17:02Speaker 1: you ain't even eat it is I can't because I'm
- 17:04Speaker 1: gonna be all up in your See you think you
- 17:07Speaker 1: can sneak a bite, but when I hit you with
- 17:09Speaker 1: a question, you're gonna have to swallow fast.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:12Speaker 1: But what I've learned is, you know, with the comedy scene,
- 17:18Speaker 1: and you could correct me if I'm wrong, but it
- 17:19Speaker 1: seems like you got to pick your comedy club and
- 17:22Speaker 1: kind of work at work, at work and to death right,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and that's your loyal club, and then the rest of
- 17:26Speaker 1: you're like a little pop up. So which was your
- 17:28Speaker 1: loyalty club?
- 17:30Speaker 3: I was you know, I was extremely lucky. When I
- 17:33Speaker 3: first came here. I was like, what like seventeen eighteen,
- 17:38Speaker 3: and I did a Fat Tuesday. My cousin. Damn, I'm sorry.
- 17:47Speaker 1: You forgot your cousin name.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what's so funny. That's right, my funny. Keith
- 17:53Speaker 3: watched it is my cousin. So he always tell me,
- 17:57Speaker 3: don't call him older cuts. I'm saying I'm your older cut.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Just tell your cousin. That's funny about that. But my cousin,
- 18:05Speaker 3: he took me around like he took me shopping. He
- 18:08Speaker 3: took me like the Mayl Rose first day, first day,
- 18:11Speaker 3: and it took me Mayl Roads, took me to Roscos,
- 18:13Speaker 3: took me all these places and got me off fresh.
- 18:16Speaker 3: And he was like, I'm taking you to the comedy store.
- 18:19Speaker 3: And it was fat Tuesday. So I was like, ah cool,
- 18:22Speaker 3: like Snoop Dogg. Everybody was there. This is like right
- 18:25Speaker 3: before Tupac got killed.
- 18:27Speaker 1: He was wow, okay, whoa crazy? Okay?
- 18:32Speaker 3: So I went up. They didn't want to let me up.
- 18:36Speaker 3: I guess keep like Paige gud Tori a couple of
- 18:40Speaker 3: dollars and he let me up and I got a
- 18:42Speaker 3: standovation and Missy Shore, the owner of the comedy store,
- 18:46Speaker 3: was sitting right in the audience get the freak out right,
- 18:50Speaker 3: and she came right up to me like, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 3: you want to be a regular, And I was like, what, sure,
- 18:56Speaker 3: but I didn't even know what I was. Yeah, yeah, sure, Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 3: you're a paid regular and you kinda every night. So
- 19:03Speaker 3: from that day on, I was every day, all three rooms.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I would hit all three rooms.
- 19:08Speaker 1: No way, But what was the pay looking at because
- 19:10Speaker 1: comedy store doesn't really pay that much.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Well, they pay like seventy five dollars if you pay record,
- 19:17Speaker 3: so but imagine seven days a week going up at
- 19:21Speaker 3: least twice yeah in nineteen ninety.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah. Shoot, First of all, you're going you're
- 19:27Speaker 1: getting paid to tell jokes. There's no greater dream than that.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I would love to take your career.
- 19:32Speaker 3: If I was skilled, you could do it cracking junks forever.
- 19:37Speaker 3: But yeah, that was like kind of a blessing. I mean,
- 19:39Speaker 3: it wasn't the answer, but it was a little better.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Everybody was jealous of me, like.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was your first night. Yes, sh okay,
- 19:49Speaker 1: you hit home runs, so your confidence must have been
- 19:51Speaker 1: through the roof through But you were still struggling.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and then I would do extra work. I did
- 19:57Speaker 3: shows like Moesha, I did Steve Harvey. Steve Harvey kicked
- 20:02Speaker 3: me off the first day that was on it because
- 20:05Speaker 3: he was like showing some shoes and you know, I'm
- 20:08Speaker 3: from Detroit. We wear gators and he was like, should
- 20:11Speaker 3: wear the gators or should where it is? And I
- 20:13Speaker 3: was like, gators, but I kept walking because I know
- 20:15Speaker 3: I don't know him. And he was like, come here,
- 20:17Speaker 3: you little, you know, cussing me out, little, Come here?
- 20:20Speaker 3: What you doing about gators? I was like, I'm from Detroit.
- 20:23Speaker 3: And then this other dude that was from Detroit too,
- 20:25Speaker 3: he was like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what we do.
- 20:29Speaker 3: And then he like kept riding me. I don't know why.
- 20:31Speaker 3: I don't know why, but it was That was cool
- 20:33Speaker 3: because I left there and went to Molitia. That's where
- 20:37Speaker 3: all my friends were. Okay you know what I'm saying,
- 20:40Speaker 3: Like I met a lot of fans. I met Kobe
- 20:42Speaker 3: Bryant there.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Wow.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so you made did you make?
- 20:47Speaker 4: Like?
- 20:47Speaker 1: Because this industry is also I feel like this industry
- 20:51Speaker 1: is weird because you make you don't really make friends
- 20:53Speaker 1: in this game. It's like, once your season's done, the
- 20:57Speaker 1: friendship time.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Cards, everybody numbers changed.
- 21:02Speaker 1: It's like, yo, we literally were in the trenches together
- 21:05Speaker 1: for ten years, and now you don't take my calls.
- 21:07Speaker 2: What the fuck?
- 21:08Speaker 1: So it's like, if the contracts don't merge together, then
- 21:11Speaker 1: the friendship's over. It's really weird.
- 21:13Speaker 3: It is really weird. And yeah, it was kind of
- 21:16Speaker 3: like that, a little like that Brandy. She always speaks
- 21:20Speaker 3: to me though, so that's cool. I don't see Countess.
- 21:24Speaker 3: I was a pallbearer for Lamon Bentley. That was like
- 21:27Speaker 3: my first Hollywood friends and he was crazy as hell.
- 21:32Speaker 3: But that was my boy though. And yeah, so and
- 21:36Speaker 3: then Kobe was going with Brandy at the time. Remember,
- 21:38Speaker 3: So that's when I met oh, okay, okay, and then
- 21:41Speaker 3: later on in life I met him again. I met
- 21:43Speaker 3: the eight Kobe eight and twenty four, okay, because like
- 21:46Speaker 3: his wife was, you know, Mexican, is Mexican, and my
- 21:50Speaker 3: girl at the time was Mexican. And they went to
- 21:52Speaker 3: school together, okay, and we just randomly bunked into each
- 21:56Speaker 3: other and I was like, oh shit, that's Kobe, right.
- 22:00Speaker 3: I knew he wasn't gonna know me. That was like
- 22:02Speaker 3: years later, so, but yeah, we got cool. Like Kobe
- 22:05Speaker 3: was my boy, Like he used to give me ship.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Every time he saw me, he gave me something crazy nice.
- 22:10Speaker 1: So he's definitely a nice personality behind.
- 22:12Speaker 3: The camera to me, he was, I mean, you know,
- 22:14Speaker 3: he liked he was like acting because he knew nobody
- 22:17Speaker 3: liked him really and he wanted to like leave La,
- 22:20Speaker 3: but he just kept winning.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, so he.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Couldn't leave you know.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Oh damn, I didn't know that.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yeah, he because he knew no nobody liked him here,
- 22:29Speaker 3: Like they just tolerated Kobe.
- 22:31Speaker 1: If you ask me, you think so.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Yeah, because the two first three rings they say that
- 22:37Speaker 3: he wouldn't have him without shot, so that's.
- 22:40Speaker 1: The one major Yeah, yeah, you know what I mean.
- 22:43Speaker 3: And then he got rid of shock. Yeah, and then
- 22:47Speaker 3: he got called into that case and there was that
- 22:51Speaker 3: case card. It was kind of over. Yeah, they really
- 22:54Speaker 3: now they didn't have to like him like Kobe. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:58Speaker 3: that was crazy.
- 22:59Speaker 1: But it's crazy because like you know, after it's passing,
- 23:02Speaker 1: it's like you can't go nowhere in La without seeing
- 23:04Speaker 1: a Kobe. But that's how LA is for everyone that
- 23:09Speaker 1: doesn't live in La, that's how LA is.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Hey, they only like you when you die.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't like you. They don't like you. They
- 23:17Speaker 1: don't like you. After you die, they tell.
- 23:19Speaker 3: You how great you are.
- 23:21Speaker 1: You can't hear that freaking sucks.
- 23:23Speaker 3: That sucks. But that's all it.
- 23:39Speaker 1: So, so after you're doing your comedy thing, you're struggling
- 23:44Speaker 1: to to at least make money, but you're making connects
- 23:48Speaker 1: and your waves in the industry. Okay, at what point
- 23:51Speaker 1: in the industry do you feel like you got Okay,
- 23:54Speaker 1: I'm really onto something.
- 23:57Speaker 3: When they let me do comic view out here like everything. Okay,
- 24:02Speaker 3: So a lot of things were going on when I
- 24:04Speaker 3: lived in New York in Detroit, but I didn't get
- 24:07Speaker 3: none of those TV shows until I moved to LA
- 24:10Speaker 3: So it was like, so to me, it was the
- 24:12Speaker 3: best thing I could have ever did, But none of
- 24:14Speaker 3: those checks were like life changing. It was just like
- 24:18Speaker 3: for the moment I could pay my rent. You know,
- 24:22Speaker 3: I can get caught up all three months, so let
- 24:25Speaker 3: me pay one and a half. But they were all
- 24:28Speaker 3: like little things to get you, to make sure your
- 24:33Speaker 3: confidence don't get shattered.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's all it is. It was like enough
- 24:37Speaker 1: to keep you on the path, but not fully quick.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Exactly like, you know, to keep you interested.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I feel like there was a part. I
- 24:46Speaker 1: mean obviously, well you and I go back to the
- 24:48Speaker 1: nick days. But I talked to you about this all
- 24:51Speaker 1: the time. I was very young. I was like twenty
- 24:56Speaker 1: two to however old. But I remember seeing grown on
- 25:00Speaker 1: like struggling.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Like, and I'm a young person. I'm like, if y'all.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Struggling, like right right, future?
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like shit, and you know, I'm in
- 25:13Speaker 1: my I'm starting getting my late twenties. I'm like, shit,
- 25:15Speaker 1: I may have to book it soon because this ain't
- 25:18Speaker 1: looking too promising if the forty and fifty year olds
- 25:20Speaker 1: are in the closets, I mean literally speaking in the
- 25:23Speaker 1: closets and yeah, And that was like for me, it
- 25:28Speaker 1: was like, yo, what are you in it for? And
- 25:29Speaker 1: I started to come to the thing that like maybe
- 25:31Speaker 1: some guys were in it for girls or status, but
- 25:34Speaker 1: it definitely wasn't about money. And that's what I kind
- 25:38Speaker 1: of started to learn about the industry, and I kind
- 25:40Speaker 1: of was like, well, this this seems like more of
- 25:42Speaker 1: a pimp game than it is.
- 25:44Speaker 3: You know, it's the biggest form of the pimp game.
- 25:47Speaker 3: And then it's more like for a comedian in LA
- 25:51Speaker 3: like the stage time is the money. It's not like
- 25:54Speaker 3: the money. You never see money like you like never
- 25:58Speaker 3: see it. Get a job, yeah yeah, until then you
- 26:02Speaker 3: have to go do extra work. You gotta go to
- 26:05Speaker 3: the piece. And then now you think you're kind of
- 26:06Speaker 3: famous because once you get popular, so you don't want
- 26:09Speaker 3: a job.
- 26:10Speaker 1: You don't want a real and that is the dilemma
- 26:12Speaker 1: that I'm so confused about, Like would you ever want
- 26:15Speaker 1: to get a real job after everything you've accomplished.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I tried. I tried because I retired for eight years.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember that.
- 26:23Speaker 3: So when I first like retired like three months later,
- 26:27Speaker 3: it was like, Okay, where's the money coming from? I
- 26:31Speaker 3: ain't going on stage, so I don't want to go
- 26:32Speaker 3: on the road, I don't want to I don't want
- 26:34Speaker 3: to read the script, I don't want to do none
- 26:35Speaker 3: of that. So where's the money coming? So I kind
- 26:38Speaker 3: of look for odd jobs and get construction for a second,
- 26:43Speaker 3: and then I like start growing.
- 26:44Speaker 1: With eat, you know, but before you got to the
- 26:47Speaker 1: step away point, because I want to get there with you.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And I think that is probably one of the parts
- 26:54Speaker 1: that I'm most intrigued about because I think a lot
- 26:56Speaker 1: of people, at least I don't know people from our
- 26:59Speaker 1: circle have been like this, I'm not doing it anymore
- 27:03Speaker 1: besides you and me, because I took a ten year
- 27:06Speaker 1: I think I took a ten year leave before I
- 27:08Speaker 1: came back to eating while broke and I was like, oh,
- 27:10Speaker 1: ship just off the roller decks. Oh yeah, I took
- 27:13Speaker 1: a ten year leave.
- 27:14Speaker 3: That's why you look so good? No, for real, Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 3: because you know, there's this city will beat you up.
- 27:20Speaker 1: It will beat you up. But I was definitely I
- 27:22Speaker 1: took a tenure leave. But it was mainly because you know,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I saw people struggling for so many years, and it
- 27:29Speaker 1: was men that It wasn't women, it was men with families.
- 27:34Speaker 1: And I think that to me was just every day
- 27:36Speaker 1: going into the office and seeing that I was like,
- 27:38Speaker 1: you know.
- 27:38Speaker 3: What, people arguing and having the worst attitudes. It was bad, man,
- 27:42Speaker 3: It was bad. It was bad. But yeah, and at
- 27:46Speaker 3: that time, I was just making kids. I wasn't trying
- 27:49Speaker 3: to be no family. I was just.
- 27:52Speaker 1: You were you were a kid, for you, for you,
- 27:55Speaker 1: and you get pregnant.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah it was beautiful, beautiful.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Are you how many kids you got? I got five again, Okay,
- 28:02Speaker 1: well you're not nowhere near his nixt level of he
- 28:06Speaker 1: went down fast in a year, so wow. But I
- 28:10Speaker 1: have theories about that.
- 28:11Speaker 3: I do too.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I have theories because he was such a squeaky clean
- 28:18Speaker 1: person when we knew him, like no drinking, no alcohol,
- 28:20Speaker 1: no tattoos. I mean, of course he got the Mariah tattoos.
- 28:23Speaker 3: He smokes weed.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Now, yeah, he smokes me. I heard he may drink
- 28:26Speaker 1: a little.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Wow.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I don't know. Okay, maybe I'm be lying. I don't know.
- 28:31Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:32Speaker 3: If you can have twenty kids in a month.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Let me tell you, you have to drink. I have a theory.
- 28:40Speaker 1: We'll get to it. But I have a theory that
- 28:43Speaker 1: I think happened because if you knew you know, obviously,
- 28:46Speaker 1: the way we saw him, he was very squeaky clean. Yeah,
- 28:49Speaker 1: so as far as that side of life.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Right, But he was hitting everybody he was.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Yeah, he was always a whore. But you gotta think
- 28:59Speaker 1: when we were around him the most, he was married
- 29:01Speaker 1: to Mariah, So during that phase we didn't.
- 29:03Speaker 3: See that well. I knew him like or he even got.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Anything that I knew him before, and he was he
- 29:12Speaker 1: got to I remember there was a point where he
- 29:14Speaker 1: was doing like a g T was married to Mariah,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and there was like a hall because I think he
- 29:20Speaker 1: smashed so many people. And I think he had to
- 29:23Speaker 1: be on set with the Pussycat doll girl and he
- 29:26Speaker 1: smashed her too. You know what I'm saying. It was like,
- 29:29Speaker 1: what lady has he not smashed?
- 29:31Speaker 3: I heard that he was on a date with the
- 29:33Speaker 3: pussycat girl and saw Mariah was like, here he had
- 29:37Speaker 3: some cat money. It was in New York. Here's some
- 29:40Speaker 3: cat money. I do something.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Okay, Okay. I didn't know that story, but I've always
- 29:46Speaker 1: known that he was a woman's like. I don't. I
- 29:49Speaker 1: don't think a lot of women ship. There was points
- 29:52Speaker 1: where I don't want to get I remember there was
- 29:56Speaker 1: a point when I think Caleb got a couple of
- 30:00Speaker 1: calls because some of the chicks would show up to
- 30:02Speaker 1: the studio. I swear to god, they would be wearing
- 30:05Speaker 1: a paper thin dress and nothing under it.
- 30:08Speaker 3: They was there trying to get on the show.
- 30:10Speaker 1: They was trying to do something, trying to get a show.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Shout out to Nick, though, shout out to Nick. So
- 30:16Speaker 1: take me back. So you're you're you're riding the wave,
- 30:19Speaker 1: You're starting to build up momentum. I think you came
- 30:24Speaker 1: out here in the nineties.
- 30:25Speaker 3: You said I came out here in ninety six. Okay,
- 30:28Speaker 3: So so back to Nick Cannon. So then that's when
- 30:30Speaker 3: I meet Nick. So we're still young, like okay, so
- 30:35Speaker 3: I was like almost old enough to get in the
- 30:38Speaker 3: club and he was like not old enough at all.
- 30:41Speaker 3: So we would they would make us go to like
- 30:44Speaker 3: the kitchen, stay away from the like alcohol, can be
- 30:47Speaker 3: around alcohol. So it's like, so that's how we came
- 30:50Speaker 3: We like got cool, came up, you know, like bond
- 30:54Speaker 3: like that. So it's like, yeah, well if you get on,
- 30:57Speaker 3: I'm gonna get on. If you get on that we
- 30:59Speaker 3: did that them near blood Sacrifice then yeah. So it's like,
- 31:03Speaker 3: so that's how we were still friends in those times
- 31:07Speaker 3: when I met you, because they started from the beginning.
- 31:10Speaker 3: And yeah, and so when I met Nick, we were
- 31:14Speaker 3: both trying to like do something. He was trying to
- 31:18Speaker 3: I was like, no, don't do extra work. You don't
- 31:20Speaker 3: need to do that, Like, dude, you're gonna be something
- 31:22Speaker 3: like trust me.
- 31:23Speaker 1: It was this now prior to drumline.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Huh, this is before drumping. Yeah, ok, yeah, this is
- 31:28Speaker 3: before he didn't have anything. Yeah, he was just like
- 31:31Speaker 3: going to Soul trained and then if if they don't you.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Know how I used to do soul training. Oh man,
- 31:37Speaker 1: the Soul trained hustle.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Was real, right, So if you know, if they didn't
- 31:41Speaker 3: pick you, then you know you have some So if
- 31:43Speaker 3: he didn't get picked, he would come to my house.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Okay, you know what I'm saying. So I didn't even
- 31:48Speaker 1: know he did that hustle. Okay, I think everybody had
- 31:51Speaker 1: to do the soul train hustle when first.
- 31:53Speaker 3: I did it. At first, I just never got picked.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Well, it's easier for the girls because the girls always
- 31:58Speaker 1: got you always had a place train. Ironically, when I
- 32:01Speaker 1: did Celebrity High, Soul Trained was the first person I
- 32:04Speaker 1: pitched a partner up because they would have all that
- 32:06Speaker 1: talent shoot over like two days, and I'd be like, yo,
- 32:09Speaker 1: do the talent for my mag But I was so young.
- 32:12Speaker 1: They were like kid. Get They were like, yes, it's cute,
- 32:18Speaker 1: but just when the camera hit take your butt.
- 32:21Speaker 3: We don't care about anything else.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Was over there kissing every person. He could see. That's
- 32:28Speaker 1: what does human They can't I definitely received the kiss
- 32:36Speaker 1: from Shamar at one point in my life and it
- 32:39Speaker 1: was like, dude's weird.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it wouldn't be interested, No, no, sorry guy.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Luckily, luckily, I think he settled down. Well hopefully he has.
- 32:51Speaker 1: If not, I mean the looks I guess on him,
- 32:54Speaker 1: they definitely have a very you.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Know, yeah, it's crazy. So look, So so I start
- 33:00Speaker 3: are kind of coaching Nick on how to do comedy.
- 33:03Speaker 3: You wanted to do comedy. His first manager name was
- 33:06Speaker 3: Sam and he was from Detroit to ear. Yeah, so
- 33:09Speaker 3: that's how I met Nick to his first manager. So
- 33:13Speaker 3: but anyway, lost so.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Short we and he wasn't writing for Nickelodeon at the time. No,
- 33:18Speaker 1: he wasn't doing an okay okay, so you catch him
- 33:21Speaker 1: right out. So that's why you guys were so close.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Yeah. So, and then eventually he started getting gigs and
- 33:27Speaker 3: I would ride with him, just be with him. You know,
- 33:30Speaker 3: that's my brother, so you know. And then from that
- 33:33Speaker 3: went to me doing more stand up. And then I
- 33:36Speaker 3: had a group called the Other Level. When we came
- 33:39Speaker 3: out here, three of us all from Detroit, and we
- 33:43Speaker 3: were doing like wild'n out on stage. That was like
- 33:46Speaker 3: the beginning of wile. So then Nick got a deal.
- 33:52Speaker 4: And hire me Okay, So now were you did you
- 33:57Speaker 4: know Nile at the time too, Well, you guys met
- 34:00Speaker 4: me now later.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Muchs later for me, I don't know. I don't even
- 34:05Speaker 3: know how long Nick knew now, but I met now
- 34:07Speaker 3: like when we started production. Yeah, but you know, now
- 34:12Speaker 3: I's been there from day one two. He was the
- 34:14Speaker 3: first head writer and now he's the CEO. About that
- 34:17Speaker 3: he's had what crazy?
- 34:22Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 34:24Speaker 3: I know he was. I'm not sure about today, but
- 34:27Speaker 3: wall'm out he's like the head guy waking out him
- 34:31Speaker 3: and uh Goldman, Yeah, yeah, crazy.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I know that.
- 34:39Speaker 3: You know he came up.
- 34:40Speaker 1: He came up, okay, yeah, because he was on here
- 34:42Speaker 1: and he did share that when Nick got his record deal.
- 34:46Speaker 1: You know, he was like the road manager for Yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Yeah, now's been down forever.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 3: So so like me and Nick kind of okay, so
- 34:55Speaker 3: before he became Nick Cannon and then when he became
- 34:59Speaker 3: Nick Cannon, I saw him again and he was like, yo,
- 35:02Speaker 3: where you've been here? You need some money? Great? He
- 35:08Speaker 3: was like, yeah, I want to give your job, man,
- 35:09Speaker 3: come on just to hang with me. And so but
- 35:11Speaker 3: I was on the road a lot at that time,
- 35:14Speaker 3: so I was seeing when I seen him, but then
- 35:16Speaker 3: when he got walling out, it was history.
- 35:19Speaker 1: That was it, you know.
- 35:20Speaker 3: But you know, my other three partners were kind of
- 35:24Speaker 3: mad about that because they felt like they should have
- 35:26Speaker 3: been on the show. It never worried, okay, yeah, so
- 35:30Speaker 3: that made it look like he kind of stole the show.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Okay, you know what I mean?
- 35:35Speaker 3: So, oh yeah, yeah, and Nick knew everybody. He knew
- 35:40Speaker 3: all of us. We were called the Other Level. You
- 35:42Speaker 3: can google it. We had we had deals with Will
- 35:45Speaker 3: Smith connects to Nick again.
- 35:47Speaker 1: So you guys were doing the improv show and.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Then right we would like do skids, we do improv,
- 35:52Speaker 3: and then we would rap and then we would sing
- 35:55Speaker 3: a song.
- 35:55Speaker 1: So don't that song like that is exactly like thank you.
- 36:00Speaker 1: So then he recruited.
- 36:01Speaker 3: You, right because I was the leader of the group
- 36:04Speaker 3: and his friend.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, of course. And then so he ends up
- 36:08Speaker 1: getting a show deal. He puts you on the show
- 36:10Speaker 1: of course your friends. So you're like, whatever, no need to.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Well I had to take care of him for a while.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Who the three other guys.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Because we were all in la starting. Yeah, and now
- 36:20Speaker 3: our show has been done, our show is happening, and
- 36:24Speaker 3: I'm the only one on it, so I had to kind.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Of yeah, yeah, to keep the peace.
- 36:31Speaker 3: And their family too, So you know I would have
- 36:33Speaker 3: did it.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Do you think Nick felt some type of way about
- 36:35Speaker 1: it or well, he wasn't friends with them, so he.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Was friends with him. But I think Nick tried to
- 36:40Speaker 3: just forget that. Yeah, like it's already moving, The train
- 36:45Speaker 3: is already moving, so you know, let's not forget what
- 36:48Speaker 3: we left behind. Let's just keep going forward. Yeah, you know,
- 36:51Speaker 3: that's yeah, but you know what I'm saying. So, but
- 36:55Speaker 3: you know, and it's not the down Nick or not.
- 36:57Speaker 3: I'm just telling you history, you know, like, and if
- 36:59Speaker 3: you ask him, if he don't say something close to this,
- 37:02Speaker 3: he's lying yeah.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, well either way, it's but you can see as
- 37:08Speaker 1: I'm saying, Yeah, I mean the way you say it.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I only can say how it happened.
- 37:13Speaker 1: So then all right, So then the show gets picked up.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You're on the show, your popularity and your money starts
- 37:20Speaker 1: to rise.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Right. Well, first, first, here's another reason why I know
- 37:26Speaker 3: that they knew they got the show for me. I
- 37:29Speaker 3: was the first one to get fired before the show
- 37:32Speaker 3: even aired, before we could take one episode. They fired me.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Why because they said I was too in charge. They
- 37:39Speaker 3: said I knew I would come out more. You know
- 37:41Speaker 3: how everybody got yeah, well, well he's taking charge of
- 37:44Speaker 3: everything because it was my show.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so you were yeah so and it's your show.
- 37:48Speaker 1: You have an opinion, more input, and you're more passionate
- 37:50Speaker 1: about it.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Right, but anything, if anything, I was trying to like
- 37:55Speaker 3: show them like, no, man, don't waste your time doing
- 37:57Speaker 3: it this way. Let's do it this way and then
- 37:59Speaker 3: it'll be faster, be funnier.
- 38:01Speaker 1: So they fired you, But how'd you get back?
- 38:03Speaker 3: Because I decided that they're not about to do my
- 38:06Speaker 3: show without me. So I went back to the studio
- 38:10Speaker 3: and Chris Spencer. Chris Spencer, uh, he seen me in
- 38:14Speaker 3: the lobby and was like, why haven't you been here?
- 38:17Speaker 3: And I was like, they fired me. It was like what.
- 38:20Speaker 3: So he got nick and nick was like, man, you're
- 38:24Speaker 3: not fired.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Okay, Well come on man, suit up, okay, okay, So
- 38:32Speaker 4: I remember.
- 38:32Speaker 1: So that was around two thousand and five. Nicko was
- 38:35Speaker 1: very young man. He wasn't the man he is today.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Because I'm sorry, I have to add badges. By the way,
- 38:41Speaker 1: we recently got married.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Shout out, shout out, to mac Man.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Congratulations. Yeah, I'm up to Mac probably a couple of years,
- 38:48Speaker 1: going downtown LA randomly one night, but shout out to Mac.
- 38:53Speaker 1: He was there, there, he was there. I think he
- 38:55Speaker 1: exited maybe five years ago or six years ago, maybe
- 38:58Speaker 1: somewhere around there. But back then, I don't think Nick
- 39:03Speaker 1: had the power to really fire. Like nowadays, if you
- 39:07Speaker 1: get fired, you'd be like, no, Nick pulled that trigger. Yeah,
- 39:11Speaker 1: he may follow in your face, but he pulled that trigger. Yeah,
- 39:14Speaker 1: definitely pulled it around.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And even if you're questioning it, nah, I don't question it.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Don't question it. All you got to do is think
- 39:29Speaker 3: about it. I know I know you here, well, you
- 39:32Speaker 3: were there, so I know you hear me. So if
- 39:35Speaker 3: you ever thought about why is this little guy so angry?
- 39:39Speaker 3: That's what I used to be mad about. Yeah, yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 3: like these niggas took the ship right in front of me.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Okay, So you get brought back in, so you're taping.
- 39:47Speaker 1: You're one of the originals. Okay, So your career starts
- 39:52Speaker 1: to take all take you off even more. I'm sure
- 39:55Speaker 1: your rate for comedy goes up right definitely, And now
- 39:58Speaker 1: you're making art.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Would you say real I would say, oh, the wild
- 40:03Speaker 3: texts stupid. We were those first like eight seasons, well okay,
- 40:11Speaker 3: all of the seasons until he got married, and then
- 40:14Speaker 3: we broke off for like four years we didn't do
- 40:16Speaker 3: a show, so that was and then when we came
- 40:18Speaker 3: back that was the MTV two. So all of the
- 40:20Speaker 3: original MTV shows we were getting one knee.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Okay, And were you blowing it or were you budgeting it?
- 40:28Speaker 3: I was. I had like two or three families at
- 40:31Speaker 3: the time, so I was like, you know, I stayed broke. Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, because you know, I got
- 40:36Speaker 3: a couple of baby mamas and possible and you know, posible.
- 40:42Speaker 3: I said, yeah, oh, possible because there was one baby
- 40:45Speaker 3: that I wasn't sure it was mine, but I still
- 40:46Speaker 3: kind of liked the girl, so I was and then
- 40:49Speaker 3: it wasn't mine. So you know, stuff like that. A
- 40:52Speaker 3: lot of girls said they have babies by me, but
- 40:55Speaker 3: they won't take the test for some reason.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Well that's yeah, well you can't take the testing.
- 41:00Speaker 3: You can't take the testing.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Yeah, no child sport for you? Yeah, so are you
- 41:05Speaker 1: on child sport?
- 41:05Speaker 3: I paid child sport for my son Carlos, who's the
- 41:10Speaker 3: Japanese guy with the Mexican name, how about that?
- 41:14Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, yeah, so you gotta okay.
- 41:16Speaker 3: He's what sixteen now, so I won't be for a wow.
- 41:20Speaker 1: But the rest of them, they didn't put you on.
- 41:23Speaker 3: No, they they always had LLCs and companies, so I
- 41:27Speaker 3: will have my money to Okay. Should I say that.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I should not say that that none of these women
- 41:33Speaker 1: listen to the show.
- 41:38Speaker 3: I I'll just trying to.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I love it. I love it, but like, I'm pretty
- 41:42Speaker 1: sure there's some dude listening out there.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Like she said, well, well, Bob, been trying to put
- 41:50Speaker 3: your child sport forever. Why can't she do it? I
- 41:53Speaker 3: was like, because I hired my money in companies, Like
- 41:57Speaker 3: you're gonna show me how to do that?
- 41:59Speaker 1: I was like, sure, that's so funny, that is hilarious.
- 42:02Speaker 1: I'm sure there is a guy somewhere out there like checkmate.
- 42:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, get LLC and get a business account, and
- 42:09Speaker 3: you get a business account then you.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, said but don't do it to avoid oh
- 42:16Speaker 1: no no, but definitely do it to even protect yourselfe
- 42:21Speaker 1: how to protect yourself. I tell people all the time,
- 42:23Speaker 1: if you're even a creator, no check should ever be
- 42:25Speaker 1: written directly to you, no ever.
- 42:28Speaker 3: And you know that's the biggest mistake in black Hollywood.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Yeah I can see that.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you got it. And it's so bad it
- 42:37Speaker 3: don't matter.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Just write me to check, write me to check.
- 42:40Speaker 3: I signed it right here.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and you get And the crazy thing is like
- 42:44Speaker 1: the other thing. Every time you fill out of W
- 42:46Speaker 1: nine and someone's paying you, guys, and it's two hundreds,
- 42:50Speaker 1: it doesn't matter how much it is. Think about it.
- 42:52Speaker 1: You're signing W nine, you're going to get tax tax
- 42:56Speaker 1: and if you're getting that check written directly to your
- 42:59Speaker 1: you're gonna pay double the tax than you would as
- 43:01Speaker 1: a corporation.
- 43:01Speaker 3: I swear to God. So you got to get incorporated.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Man, immediately. Immediately make sure those checks are not written
- 43:08Speaker 1: to you. I don't care if you got to tell
- 43:10Speaker 1: them delayed payment.
- 43:11Speaker 4: Do not get that check written to I can't tell
- 43:14Speaker 4: you how many times I've talked this lesson and.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Take it.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Katie and Jared OUTNN told y'all to get a corporation.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Shout outs to y'all corporation. I preach it all day
- 43:28Speaker 1: to be like you know what, this year will be
- 43:30Speaker 1: the year, and they never do it. The day after
- 43:32Speaker 1: the day I send them money to corporation will be
- 43:35Speaker 1: the proudest day of my life. But right now they're
- 43:38Speaker 1: going to pay double the tax.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Gotta get that.
- 43:40Speaker 1: They gotta get that.
- 43:41Speaker 3: So that's what I've been doing for years, and it
- 43:45Speaker 3: worked for me. I can't say that I made that
- 43:48Speaker 3: much money to hide, but yeah, I was starving. You
- 43:51Speaker 3: know how this shit go so so cool?
- 43:53Speaker 1: You were breaking off these other guys, your careers taking off, Uh,
- 43:59Speaker 1: your careers, taking off. Everything's going on.
- 44:01Speaker 3: I'm on TV every day.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Now, do you start to pick up vices?
- 44:07Speaker 3: What do you mean, like cocaine and something? Yeah, something
- 44:13Speaker 3: I used to It was like, okay, here's the thing
- 44:16Speaker 3: about me and drugs. I like I like drugs.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Can I say that you can always say that I
- 44:22Speaker 1: love drugs.
- 44:23Speaker 3: I love them. I mean mushrooms. I'll still take them.
- 44:27Speaker 3: I think I'm still probably high right now. Mushrooms. Cocaine.
- 44:30Speaker 3: I can't do as much because a lot of people
- 44:33Speaker 3: died off cocaine. But it was a point where I
- 44:37Speaker 3: used to like it, not cook it or nothing. Yeah, whatever, pills.
- 44:43Speaker 3: I went through a pill phase, but it wasn't fun.
- 44:47Speaker 3: I like cocaine okay, but but I don't like it now.
- 44:49Speaker 3: I can't do it now, Oh you don't. So what
- 44:52Speaker 3: to many people die?
- 44:54Speaker 1: Did you know people that died?
- 44:56Speaker 3: Yeah, Teddy b what comedians? Comedians? I don't want to
- 45:03Speaker 3: name any names. I don't want to slander anybody. I
- 45:07Speaker 3: think this is what I personally think. I think cocaine
- 45:11Speaker 3: mixed with the shock.
- 45:16Speaker 1: You yeah, yeah, Yeah, that's all I think. Well, okay,
- 45:20Speaker 1: so the reason why I brought that up is because
- 45:22Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, the double works and ministerious ways,
- 45:26Speaker 1: whether it's girls, drugs or whatever. And I had to
- 45:29Speaker 1: bring that up because, like I said, there was a
- 45:31Speaker 1: point where I knew men in the industry that were broke,
- 45:34Speaker 1: and I started to get to this point where it's like,
- 45:36Speaker 1: if you're broke, then there's gotta be another vice that
- 45:39Speaker 1: you're getting some level of achievement from the standard game. Yeah,
- 45:42Speaker 1: I mean being around n Yeah, being around Nick, it
- 45:45Speaker 1: was definitely you hang with Nick, you're gonna get free
- 45:50Speaker 1: Hanging around Nick, you're gonna get free status. But you know,
- 45:54Speaker 1: even with that, you had to still be smart enough
- 45:55Speaker 1: to figure out how to make.
- 45:56Speaker 3: Money because that was like before clout. So it wasn't
- 46:01Speaker 3: like we were getting Instagram fans. Yeah, it was just
- 46:04Speaker 3: more we had to learn how to make money from it.
- 46:07Speaker 3: That was very hard. It's very hard to make money
- 46:10Speaker 3: off the cloud. Yeah. Yeah, and you know and someone
- 46:13Speaker 3: else like.
- 46:14Speaker 1: You, so you could pull it off.
- 46:15Speaker 3: But it just depends on the level of life and
- 46:19Speaker 3: thinking you are.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Because but there were guys working for free for years,
- 46:23Speaker 1: and I felt like they must have been doing it
- 46:26Speaker 1: for clout because there was no When I say, I
- 46:29Speaker 1: was like, it doesn't even make logical sense.
- 46:33Speaker 3: People were sleeping in the car.
- 46:35Speaker 1: It was scariest to me. There's nothing more scary than
- 46:39Speaker 1: seeing like older people broke around you. You'd be like,
- 46:42Speaker 1: is this my best thing? Like coming from New York,
- 46:44Speaker 1: you see homeless people and be like my parents would
- 46:46Speaker 1: be like that person tried a cigarette. You'd be like, well,
- 46:48Speaker 1: I've never tried a cigarette.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Being in the game and seeing like a bunch of
- 46:53Speaker 4: broke people around the one rich person, it's like, Okay,
- 46:56Speaker 4: something's not adding up right.
- 46:58Speaker 3: And then here's this too, like to be the only
- 47:02Speaker 3: person with a sandwich and it's all these hungry motherfuckers
- 47:05Speaker 3: around you, Like why didn't we kill Like it's like
- 47:20Speaker 3: a little rulee, like, don't kill the person with the soundwich,
- 47:24Speaker 3: gonna give you a piece, don't worry. Just have faith.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Stories about people begging the person with a sandwich.
- 47:32Speaker 3: They'll do it.
- 47:32Speaker 1: The response wasn't really nice. Oh my god, it was terrible.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Man, being in Hollywood for all this time, all these years.
- 47:41Speaker 3: When I retired, the first thing people I'll notice people
- 47:45Speaker 3: will say to me it was like, man, you are
- 47:47Speaker 3: so stern. Man, you are so mean, Like because I
- 47:52Speaker 3: was so used to hearing no all the time that
- 47:54Speaker 3: I had like got immune to it, like no, that
- 47:56Speaker 3: ain't ship like whatever, No, I'm waiting for the yes.
- 48:00Speaker 3: But so people aren't used to that. I mean, but
- 48:03Speaker 3: we don't know that because we like in this life. Yeah,
- 48:06Speaker 3: but we don't get like the other side of life
- 48:08Speaker 3: until we go over there and it's like what like
- 48:12Speaker 3: people here know and cry and go to the hospital
- 48:16Speaker 3: have a heart attack seizure.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I'd be like, yes, another notework, one step closed, Let's
- 48:21Speaker 1: get thirty more.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Right, Like go on right, I'm telling you like know
- 48:28Speaker 3: to me is like I don't know. Maybe.
- 48:31Speaker 1: So you're enjoying your ride and you're doing well. You
- 48:36Speaker 1: have a couple of little families, but at some point
- 48:40Speaker 1: you decide I'm punching out at that point.
- 48:43Speaker 3: The point, well, one of them was. I went to
- 48:48Speaker 3: this audition and it was an ice Cube movie. It
- 48:51Speaker 3: was called Lottery Ticket in the in the breakdown, it
- 48:56Speaker 3: had for one of the characters of Spanky Hayes type.
- 49:00Speaker 3: I'm like, well, shit, that's me. Everyone's calling me, every
- 49:05Speaker 3: agency calling me. It's all about this one movie. So
- 49:09Speaker 3: I go there. I read for about twenty times, literally
- 49:13Speaker 3: in front of ice Cube, in front of O'sha's son,
- 49:16Speaker 3: in front of his other son, in front of his wife,
- 49:18Speaker 3: in front of this producer, front of that producer. I'm
- 49:21Speaker 3: going to Detroit and see ice Cube and two of
- 49:23Speaker 3: his sons on the same plane as me. I'm looking
- 49:26Speaker 3: at him like, uh hello, I'm already on TVA day, man,
- 49:30Speaker 3: come on, so make a loss short. One day I
- 49:35Speaker 3: went and read and the lady said, you didn't read
- 49:38Speaker 3: it like you would normally read it. I was like, well,
- 49:41Speaker 3: I did this like thirty times, Like how many times
- 49:43Speaker 3: do you want me to read it? I was like,
- 49:45Speaker 3: and it says in the breakdowns a Spanky Hayes type.
- 49:48Speaker 3: She said, we don't really want Spanky Hayes. So I
- 49:53Speaker 3: was like, huh. So I was like, so you rather
- 49:56Speaker 3: have a spanky Hayes type than real?
- 50:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 50:00Speaker 1: So they wanted like some kind of stereotypical version of you.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Yeah. So I just kind of kicked all the computers
- 50:06Speaker 3: down in the room and knocked all the ship down.
- 50:09Speaker 1: And it's kind of you. I was just you were
- 50:13Speaker 1: just pissed.
- 50:13Speaker 3: I've never heard a person say we want someone just.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Like you but not not.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Yeah, It's like what that was crazy?
- 50:22Speaker 1: So you lost it, totally lost it, and.
- 50:26Speaker 3: I didn't verified. I'm pretty sure you was. I probably
- 50:29Speaker 3: was blackballed after that, but I didn't. I didn't feel
- 50:33Speaker 3: better about that until I watched Straight Out of Comptent
- 50:36Speaker 3: and saw ice Cube.
- 50:38Speaker 1: Let me tell you something, My favorite scene in Straight
- 50:42Speaker 1: Out of Compton was the scene when he took a
- 50:44Speaker 1: bat to everything. And it was mainly because when we
- 50:48Speaker 1: had the celebrity high days, I had all these sponsors
- 50:51Speaker 1: and they would take forever to pay. There were some
- 50:53Speaker 1: months where I'd be like, Nick, I hate to come
- 50:56Speaker 1: to you, but man, I can't afford my wrenck this month.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Like I got money old, I just don't know when
- 51:02Speaker 1: it's coming. And I was always in that position of like,
- 51:05Speaker 1: I want to go up to this person's office be like,
- 51:06Speaker 1: motherfucking you kill my company, give me my money. So
- 51:11Speaker 1: that was like literally my favorite scene. But yes, okay,
- 51:13Speaker 1: so you saw that scene and then.
- 51:15Speaker 3: I thought better. I was like, ok but do you think.
- 51:17Speaker 1: That was a real, real thing that happened.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Well, it happened to me, So I can see how.
- 51:26Speaker 1: When you decided okay, I'm checking out or slash, you
- 51:29Speaker 1: may have gotten blackballed.
- 51:31Speaker 3: I was thinking maybe, uh, but.
- 51:34Speaker 1: See see did you try to apologize afterwards?
- 51:36Speaker 3: No? I never reached back out to him. The only
- 51:40Speaker 3: reason why I even wanted to watch the film is
- 51:43Speaker 3: to see who they picked instead of me.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Okay, and who did they pick.
- 51:46Speaker 3: I don't even know the guy, but he's the guy.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Remember he was like the d BO guy, the guy
- 51:50Speaker 3: who kept taking ticket.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Yeah. So I was reading for that part okay, okay.
- 51:55Speaker 3: And they kept saying, well, you're too funny and what
- 51:57Speaker 3: this is a comedy.
- 51:58Speaker 1: That's crazy? It was, and I could see that being
- 52:01Speaker 1: like a trigger, like you want someone like me but
- 52:04Speaker 1: not me.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Like, yeah, I'm about to break all this ship in.
- 52:09Speaker 3: So it's like I wish.
- 52:10Speaker 1: I could have been a fly on the wall to
- 52:12Speaker 1: see that.
- 52:13Speaker 3: You know who was there? Okay, So remember in Destiny's
- 52:17Speaker 3: Child it was it was first of all, it was
- 52:19Speaker 3: four different ones. Was it was it was Kelly, it
- 52:22Speaker 3: was Beyonce, and it was two other ones shorter, one
- 52:27Speaker 3: else and then the other one who became actress LaToya.
- 52:31Speaker 3: She was okay. So when I walked out the door,
- 52:34Speaker 3: she was sitting right for real. I said, oh, I
- 52:38Speaker 3: like your ship man. She was like whoa. She looked
- 52:41Speaker 3: at me like, wow, you're a trip like so yeah.
- 52:45Speaker 3: So at that point I was mad about that then,
- 52:51Speaker 3: so I was like, I don't want to really do
- 52:53Speaker 3: this no more. So then I went on the road
- 52:57Speaker 3: a couple of times and I didn't really feel it,
- 52:59Speaker 3: so I didn't really do it as good as I
- 53:00Speaker 3: normally do. So I started, so it start kind of
- 53:03Speaker 3: you know, and then Nick Cannon brought it while a'n
- 53:07Speaker 3: now back, so I went that's when it was in
- 53:09Speaker 3: New York and the checks were less than half of
- 53:15Speaker 3: what they used. So I was like, so all of
- 53:19Speaker 3: these signs, it's like, man, put this shit, man do
- 53:23Speaker 3: something else. Like I was already famous. I already been
- 53:25Speaker 3: famous for years. It was kind of my turn to
- 53:28Speaker 3: kind of break off from them anyway and do my
- 53:30Speaker 3: own thing. I just didn't really know and they weren't
- 53:33Speaker 3: really giving like jobs at that time a lot, so boom.
- 53:37Speaker 3: So I got a podcast right after that. I was
- 53:40Speaker 3: one of the kind of like the first people to
- 53:42Speaker 3: get a podcast. It was called The Spanky Hag Show.
- 53:45Speaker 3: And one day I had asked, well, we were all
- 53:50Speaker 3: asking each other questions because I kept it open, and
- 53:53Speaker 3: somebody asked me, who do you think is gay in Hollywood?
- 53:56Speaker 3: And I was like, I threw the question back, who
- 53:59Speaker 3: you think is So it was my turn again and
- 54:02Speaker 3: I just said okay. And if you didn't know this
- 54:08Speaker 3: did like me and him were like beefed out.
- 54:11Speaker 4: I did not know likeous, So you don't remember when
- 54:17Speaker 4: did the video with the cold on?
- 54:19Speaker 3: He was like yeah, that was about me. Oh my goodness,
- 54:24Speaker 3: because I said he was gay and then he heard
- 54:26Speaker 3: that I said that, and he did a video and
- 54:28Speaker 3: then I did another video and.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Was hilarious, Yeah that's hilarious. Yeah, that's really funny.
- 54:35Speaker 3: So that kind of solidified the black ball with black people,
- 54:38Speaker 3: because first of all, I'm making trouble and now calling
- 54:42Speaker 3: people gay. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 54:44Speaker 1: So they But luckily it was long before the you
- 54:47Speaker 1: know the.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Right now right, No, it wasn't right now, I think,
- 54:52Speaker 3: But I think I kind of started the short.
- 54:57Speaker 1: Don't tell me you're the creator.
- 54:59Speaker 3: I think I.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Can culture GBT.
- 55:03Speaker 3: I want to say I was one of the first.
- 55:05Speaker 1: Yeah, like, let's rally a group of less now.
- 55:08Speaker 3: But here's the thing. My cousin is gay. I have
- 55:11Speaker 3: a couple of gay friends, a lot of gay friends. Actually,
- 55:14Speaker 3: you know, I'm praised in Hollywood, so people know that
- 55:18Speaker 3: I wasn't gay bashing. Yeah, it was just me calling
- 55:23Speaker 3: somebody else. But he got so mad about it that
- 55:26Speaker 3: we beefed out for a little while. So that helped
- 55:29Speaker 3: me retire because I was like, okay, so at least
- 55:32Speaker 3: I'm on a high note. I'm still on GMZ and
- 55:35Speaker 3: I'm still doing this, but I don't want to do
- 55:37Speaker 3: this no more so. And then I got a family,
- 55:41Speaker 3: which I love so much. My wife is my beautiful wife.
- 55:45Speaker 3: I don't know what I would do without her. She
- 55:47Speaker 3: kind of she saved me from Hollywood. She like literally
- 55:51Speaker 3: saved me.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Like, no, bosh, what do you mean by that?
- 55:54Speaker 3: Because okay, well, of course she knew who I was
- 55:58Speaker 3: when when we met, but I would tell her like, look,
- 56:01Speaker 3: call me Carlos.
- 56:02Speaker 1: That's my real name, you know that.
- 56:04Speaker 3: So call me Carlos. Don't call me Spanky, Like don't
- 56:07Speaker 3: I'm not spanky. I am spanky, but don't just call
- 56:11Speaker 3: me Carlos. And it's like I was like teaching her
- 56:15Speaker 3: like the real me. I was like, look, if I
- 56:17Speaker 3: wouldn't have left Hollywood and or met you, I would
- 56:22Speaker 3: still be there and I wouldn't. I would be nothing.
- 56:25Speaker 3: I would be like a junkie one way or the other.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Wow, that's a deep statement.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Yeah, because Hollywood is a fix. It's not real. It's
- 56:35Speaker 3: like a fix. It's like a big ass check you
- 56:38Speaker 3: get one time in your life and you keep trying
- 56:40Speaker 3: to do the same thing to get another check like that, to.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Get another hit. It's almost like chasing a high.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Exactly that that's what it is. And then the more
- 56:49Speaker 3: people see you, especially like when we were coming up,
- 56:52Speaker 3: like nineties, early two thousands, it was a lot different,
- 56:55Speaker 3: Like appearances meant they meant more. Yeah, like back in
- 56:59Speaker 3: the up. So it was like now it's.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Like Instagram era. Well, I feel like it's funny because
- 57:04Speaker 1: now that we have Instagram, like in the air that
- 57:06Speaker 1: we came from, it was definitely more celebrity driven. I
- 57:08Speaker 1: think Instagram came out in two thousand and around twenty
- 57:12Speaker 1: twelve to fifteen or something.
- 57:13Speaker 3: Okay, damn, I was gonna say like three but.
- 57:15Speaker 1: No, it wasn't then three face Yeah, yeah, Facebook or
- 57:20Speaker 1: my Space, my Space, it was my Space. Facebook came out.
- 57:22Speaker 3: Remember we used to hang out with Tom from my Space.
- 57:25Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, I tell people that all the time.
- 57:27Speaker 1: But now we're in the era where Instagram is, and
- 57:31Speaker 1: I fear for the world we live in now in
- 57:34Speaker 1: the sense of like people that aren't even celebrities are
- 57:37Speaker 1: chasing highs from likes, and.
- 57:39Speaker 3: I say this, I fucking hate Instagram talent. I'm not
- 57:46Speaker 3: into it. They're not funny. Uh, they just stay on
- 57:51Speaker 3: the phone all day. If it was that simple when
- 57:53Speaker 3: I was coming up, I would be a gazillionaire.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:56Speaker 3: I just feel like that that Instagram non talent stuff
- 58:00Speaker 3: took away with the struggle of it, like the getting
- 58:03Speaker 3: to know people and sleeping on people couches because because
- 58:06Speaker 3: like at the end of the day, it's not about talent.
- 58:09Speaker 3: And that's another thing that broke my heart when I
- 58:12Speaker 3: found out it wasn't about how funny I was, and
- 58:14Speaker 3: it wasn't about how many times I was funny, because
- 58:17Speaker 3: you know, La, you got it. They judge you. Yeah,
- 58:20Speaker 3: I've seen be funny like thirty times. You know, they
- 58:22Speaker 3: judge you, they say shit like that. So but once
- 58:24Speaker 3: I found out it wasn't about that. It's about relationships.
- 58:30Speaker 3: It's like Hollywood relationship, you hit it.
- 58:34Speaker 1: I think a keyword Hollywood, because I will say I
- 58:37Speaker 1: don't know how New York is because I haven't really
- 58:39Speaker 1: moved into industry out there, but I will say LA
- 58:43Speaker 1: is all relationship.
- 58:44Speaker 3: It's all relationships. It's just it's just like when you
- 58:48Speaker 3: get something to your producer. You stuck to it. Now
- 58:50Speaker 3: you're on whatever, the biggest show out and then you
- 58:53Speaker 3: see me, Hey, what's up. That's how you get job.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Yeah. But you want to know something that's tricky about
- 58:58Speaker 1: the relationships in hollywod and this is kind of what
- 59:01Speaker 1: I was touching on earlier. It's very like fluid. There's
- 59:05Speaker 1: no deep connection. I mean we have, I mean there's few,
- 59:08Speaker 1: like even from Incredible, I walked away with deep connections.
- 59:10Speaker 1: But the people that I were even closer to I
- 59:12Speaker 1: didn't walk away with that deep connection from them, and
- 59:14Speaker 1: you're like, wait, I saw you every day, like you know,
- 59:18Speaker 1: But I mean there's a like a secret respect. I
- 59:21Speaker 1: guess you'd say, like, you know, an honorary respect. But
- 59:26Speaker 1: even Nick Nick can't get your ass on our show
- 59:29Speaker 1: but likes on the show. But like the truth in
- 59:33Speaker 1: the matter is is like it's that honorary respect. It's like, yeah,
- 59:36Speaker 1: you'll see the call, maybe you'll respond, but it's like
- 59:38Speaker 1: if I'm not hot or we're not doing something together,
- 59:41Speaker 1: there's no home ownership, then you know, maybe we'll pass
- 59:45Speaker 1: to whatever is more convenient. But I definitely hate that
- 59:48Speaker 1: about Hollywood.
- 59:49Speaker 3: Yeah, they only hired the green like people who don't
- 59:54Speaker 3: know that they're being took.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Yeah. I liked what Orlando had said. He was like,
- 59:59Speaker 1: you guys to look at Hollywood like a job. You're
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: there to do your job, and when there's no job,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: you can't go to work.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: That's it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: And that's how he said it. And I think that
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: that was the best way to deal with it. But
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I think people coming into the game don't quite get that.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: They don't get it. And here's another thing. They don't
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: get like they you're emulating. You're not. That's none of
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: the stuff that they do is original. On TikTok, you
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: can have you can put up a video and with
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: your voice, and I could use your voice on my video,
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: So that means you don't even have to use your
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: own voice. I could get more hits than you. So
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: that's crazy, Like that's absurd, Like I don't even and
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: then they don't even know where they got the material from.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: They just doing it.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I get a publicity request all the time for eating
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: wone Broke and the email will say this person has
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: fifteen million TikTok followers and there's a bet to release
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: to EP And I'm like, wait, but it's TikTok where
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: people are infamously like just voiceovers.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Right, come on, not famous.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Man, But you know, eyeballs equal dollars or what have you.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: But I definitely think that the industry has become diluted.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: But you're back in the game. Yes, So now that
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: you're back, I want to know what made you come back,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and I want to know what you got coming up.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Well, I came back because I was going crazy trying
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: to be normal.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Really, yeah, I couldn't.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: I wanted to be a normal guy. And the more
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: I was getting into it, oh man, that's not the
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: life for me.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Do you think it's because Hollywood kind of got you
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: in the habit and this is the devil's advocate of
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: chasing the high?
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: I am definitely I was chasing the high.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Because that many highs.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I wasn't. I didn't even know I was
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: chasing it, and I was chasing it. So it's crazy
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: because I'm still like famous. And by the way, guys,
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: famous ain't shit. If being famous is nothing, they're either
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: gonna give you money or they're gonna give you fame.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: If they give you money that comes with a job,
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: that fame, then that's just the famous gonna wear off
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: before you spend your money.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: And it doesn't even equal money.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Fame doesn't e never, and it's never both of those.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: Like in today's age is a little bit more than
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: in the beginning of the two thousands. Like Kevin Hard
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: is definitely rich, your famous, Nick Cannon is famous. Uh,
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: day Spell is rich and famous? Uh who else?
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I will say this though, I feel like there
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: is a boyd this is probably gonna get me, But
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I do feel like even with the people you named,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: there was definitely a lot of white.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's all white.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: And that kind of what kind of led me to
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: my theory about Nick a little bit, was like, there's
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: a lot of power plays behind those big people. Granted
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Nick definitely plays chess not checkers, that that dude he
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: could teach a master course of how to move in
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: a room full of vultures.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: I think, like jay Z, you know, but but he
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: became a vulture. That's that's what Nick is now, he's
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: the vulture. I don't know, I mean in a good way.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: I'm not saying nothing bad my brother, but I'm saying
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: he's adapted to the sharks. Well, yeah, I turned a shark. Yeah.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I kind of think maybe he was always a shark.
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: He was always a shark. He was sark.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I would say this. I'll say this. One thing I
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: learned about Nick, and I try to tell people, is
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: like Nick's watching you before you even though he's looking
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: oh yeah, you know, he'll read you, but you'll think
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: he didn't even see you in the corner of the room.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: He saw hours ago everything and.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: He's listening to everything. And that's one thing. And I think,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: you know, and I think it's dangerous in this industry.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: As ego, I always tell people, Man, you got beef,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: don't put it on no email seeing people, don't put
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: in a group of text, don't even tell nobody. Just
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: go direct to source, because that's it.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: It's gonna be all over the place, it's gonna be
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: out of proportion. But listen back to the internet comedians.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: You know, I feel like the reason why I don't
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: like them is because they took a lot of my
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: confidence and a lot of not my confidence, but my
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: structure in my blueprint to comedy like I was. I
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: did comedy like fearless. There's only a few people like me.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: I would say, I got some of it from T. K.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: Kirklin and you know, but in my own version of it.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: And then I would say something like Corey Holcomb is
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: kind of ballsy like that in a sense, but but
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: he went further because I.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Wasn't there anymore.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: Nobody was there anymore. So it was nobody calling people out.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: It was nobody being real, and that's what it is now.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: They took that. I feel like I'm like Lil Wayne
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: like because like all the comedians now are like my sons.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: They took all stuff from me and they don't even
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: know who their daddy is. They don't even care who
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: they did.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: You're hilarious. I think in some retrospects they know, and
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: maybe that's where their way of, you know, pay.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: To me. I go back to what we said earlier,
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: like you know, it's like they don't give you no
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: props to you dead, Like nobody's ever gonna say this,
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: Like I'm gonna sound crazy when they when you show this,
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: they can be like, oh, he's so arrogating all that.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: But watch when I die, they're gonna say, who started
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: Wilie nowt he's the one who's Yeah, come on, man,
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: give me my flowers now man especial flowers.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Let's talk about what you got coming up? Okay, the Comeback.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Kid, The Comeback Kid. I got a movie called Back
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: on the Strip that comes out August eighteen. I'm trying
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: to remember everybody. It has Wesley Snipes, Tiffany Hattish, Bill Bellamley,
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: who's one of my favorite guys, uh, Kevin Hart, Gary Owens,
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: faise I love.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: These are a lot of heavy.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Hitters, Yeah, I said, Tiffany. Uh, and the guy ain't
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: gonna kill me. His name is Spencer Moore, but Spencer
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: Moore played the kid in Creed three, so when the
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: kid went to jail, it was the guy who went
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: to jail. He's like the star of it. So and
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: it's directed by Chris Spencer.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Oh shit, Christ, I'm trying to get Chris Spencer on
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: the show.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: I'll help you.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: And then are you doing are you doing the I
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: know Chris Spencer has that show up in Englewood. What's
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: it called? Are you doing those shows anymore?
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, the back Yeah, I haven't done it yet.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: But so how did you end up getting like from
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: being in retirement? Did you get a phone call?
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Like a man?
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: We put that jersey back on? We need?
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: I was, uh, this is crazy. So me and my
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: family we went and by the way, I love my family.
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: Hello family. My wife. I got a daughter named Jedi,
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: daughter named Lily, and a son named Kobe. So we
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Kobe wasn't born yet. Man, So I was deciding to
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: move back to Detroit because I wanted to move back
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: and see my mom and stuff. Right, So it wasn't
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: really going as well as I wanted it to go.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: So I didn't know what I was gonna do. I
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: was like in the Airbnb and Chris just caused me
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: out the book, see what you're doing? Where are you
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: at right now? Detroit Ton to Vegas? I was like,
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: what do you mean coming Vegas? He was like, I
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: got a movie roll for you. Like what, Like, come
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: on man, good plan? He was like, no, I'm serious.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: He was like, the only thing, you got to get
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: tested and make sure you don't got COVID before you
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: can get on the plane. So I was like, okay,
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: I could do that, and they played they paid for
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: my plane, and I paid for my wife and daughter's
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: plane and now we're back on the West coast. Wow,
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: that's crazy. And I was like a year.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Ago, Yeah, now you're back.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: I'm back now. And I got other movies coming out
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: on to B and stuff like that. But you know,
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: I don't count to be uh to be actors, you
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: are not a real.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Don't say that.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: If you don't get checks from SAG, you're not real.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Wait to be UH doesn't get checks from.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: No, that's like bootleg shot. I mean nothing against them
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: because I've done some Tooby.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Movies, but but does to be paid decent.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: Toby is kind of like a gig, like like a contractor.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: You get as much money as you negotia and it's
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: right there. You get it right now. No, it's not
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: not sacked.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Okay, non union on behalf of everybody. I'm gonna give
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: you your flowers here. I really appreciate you coming out
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: and trust me, I was look, I was so like excited.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: I was like, Spanky, I'm gonna remind you, and I did.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Good morning, Spanky. Don't forget. I'll see you today. I'm
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: gonna see it in a couple of days.
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: Oh, don't forget. I cannot forget this. I'm shooting a
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: Netflix special September eleven.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Right, that's the biggest news of it all.
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: So you know it's gonna be the bomb.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Wait a minute, wait a minute, September eleventh. You haven't
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: shot it yet at.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: The comedy store on Sunset.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: That's home turf, So get the freak out. So now
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: that you're damn you came back swinging.
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: Man, I'm trying.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: I freaking now. Guys. Now I'm in debate. Should we
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: be dropping this?
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Definitely eighteen Yeah, okay, we go, we go, we go
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: with you. But damn, that's great news. Oh ship high five,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: happy for you.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Know how long it took for us to get here, man,
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: you know the struggles and still smiling.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: That's how did you pull the Netflix? Did they call you?
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: This is another crazy story. So I go in and
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: I go in the comedy store. I see Kanye. You know,
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: Kanye has been down with us a long time.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Kanye West, that's what I thought you said. I didn't
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: know that.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, like a million times in the beginning.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: You nick and not me. Unfortunately.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: You know, Kanye, that's my man. So I seen Kanye
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: walking in and I'm like, oh, Shay, what's up. And
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: we start talking and I'm like, what's going on? And
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: then I see Dave and then he walks away. He
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: was like, oh you next, and I'm like huh and
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: then he like walks out and all this ship is
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: happening in one time. And then next thing you know,
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: I'm on stage like tearing the ass up and.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: At the comedy store.
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and I got the only I got another Standovation.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: That's crazy. But I was the only one of that
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: night to get Atnovation, and I was like the last.
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: I think only two more people went after. So I
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: was like way at the end of the night. So
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: it was like, yeah, you're it so.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: So, but where was how was Netflix? How did the Netflix?
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: Well, it was a Netflix showcase.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: It was a Netflix showcase.
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Dave Chappelle had is doing like a Dave
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: Sappelle present.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Oh, it was like, how he did? I think he
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: did that with Earthquake.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Right right, But I think it's kind of more. I
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: think it's like more like death jam what he's doing.
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, oh yeah, let's get it.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: And Kanye was there.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: And Kanye was right there and he was We took
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: a whole bunch of pictures and I got viral real fast.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Hell yeah, you know it's crazy. I think this time
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: around you you feel, well, obviously you've matured in your experience.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: You've definitely taken it in and let it sit within you.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I feel like the second time around is going to
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: be a truly beautiful experience.
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: Man, me too. But I'm gonna tell you why. It's
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: because I already did it for me. So it's like
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: I already have my fun. Yeah, so I have to
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: feed my children that I see every day, my beautiful
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: girls and my son and my wife, Like I'm doing
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: it for them. So the world is in trouble because
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: now I don't have to worry about what people think
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: about me, and I don't care about that no more.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: I'm just trying to get these checks.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: So are you at all nervous about like the temptations
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: or anything, or what's your plan, because I feel like
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: the temptations can be there, like you have a plan
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: for that.
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: I'm so like in love with my family.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: That I feel every time you say that, you know.
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, I would probably just try to
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: talk my wife into doing it with with me.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: You're hilarious, I mean, but you know I wouldn't do
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: it bout myself though. Yeah, but no, I feel like
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: every time I talk to you, the way you talk
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: about your wife and your family, like I hear it.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Yeah, they saved me. They saved me because like even
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: in California, working in Hollywood, I only could find a
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: baby mama, that's it. And as soon as I went
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: away from Hollywood, I found my wife.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: So I'm like, and he was met her in Vegas.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I met in Vegas of all places.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Shout outs to your wife, Yeah what's up? Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Shae Hayes, Well thank you so much for fixing me
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: the broke.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Okay, for real, I did.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: But this is the thing. Okay, I could eat this
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: whole thing, right, but when I'm interviewing you, it'd be
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: like follow fast. There's no way, especially with this amount
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: of serving. But did I like it? Yes? Will my
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: daughter be eating it? I will personally take a picture
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: and say, look at my daughter because yeah, probably be
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: tomorrow's day, I promise you, because sometimes I'm so desperate
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: for like what am I going to make it?
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: I'm telling and it's so simple, a little bit of salt.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: I may the only thing I may do is maybe
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: boil some broccoli and put it in there. Okay, I
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: ground that, you know, I can surround it out.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: I can see that.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: But overall, as far as fast on the run, less
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: than twenty minute mom meal. Shit, if you're trying to
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: throw your kid out the door, this.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: Is gonna hit and they're gonna be full too.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Yes, how can people keep up with you?
