- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter eleven of the Manifesting of the One and Manifold Arjuna.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This for my soul's peace, have I heard from THEE
- 0:12Speaker 1: the unfolding of the mystery supreme named ad Yatman, comprehending
- 0:18Speaker 1: which my darkness is dispelled. For now I know, O
- 0:22Speaker 1: Lotus eyed, whence is the birth of men? And whence
- 0:27Speaker 1: their death? And what the majesties of Thine immortal rule
- 0:32Speaker 1: fain would I see? As Thou thyself declarest it, Sovereign Lord,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the likeness of that glory of thy form wholly revealed,
- 0:41Speaker 1: O Thou, divinest One. If this can be, if I
- 0:46Speaker 1: may bear the sight, make thyself visible, Lord of all prayers,
- 0:52Speaker 1: show me thy very self, the eternal God Krishna gaze. Then, Thou,
- 1:00Speaker 1: son of Pritha, I manifest for THEE those hundred thousand
- 1:05Speaker 1: thousand shapes that clothe my mystery. I show THEE all
- 1:10Speaker 1: my semblances in finite, rich, divine, my changeful hues, my
- 1:15Speaker 1: countless forms. See in this face of mine adityas Wassus, Rudras, Ushrins,
- 1:23Speaker 1: and maruts, see wonders unnumber'd Indian Prince reveal'd to none
- 1:29Speaker 1: save THEE Behold this is the universe. Look what is
- 1:35Speaker 1: life in dead? I gather all in one in me. Gaze,
- 1:41Speaker 1: as thy lips have said, on God eternal ary God,
- 1:45Speaker 1: see me, see what thou prayest. Thou canst not nor
- 1:50Speaker 1: with human eye sur Juna ever mayest. Therefore I give
- 1:55Speaker 1: thee sense divine, have other eyes new light, and look,
- 2:01Speaker 1: this is my glory, unveiled to mortal sight. Sunjaya, then
- 2:08Speaker 1: O king the God, so saying stood to Pritha's son,
- 2:12Speaker 1: displaying all the splendor, wonder dread of his fast almighty head,
- 2:19Speaker 1: out of countless eyes, beholding out of countless mouths, commanding
- 2:24Speaker 1: countless mystic forms, enfolding in one form, supremely standing countless
- 2:31Speaker 1: radiant glories, bearing countless heavenly weapons, bearing crowned with garlands
- 2:37Speaker 1: of star clusters, robed in garb of woven lusters, breathing
- 2:43Speaker 1: from his perfect presence, breadths of all delicious ascents, of
- 2:48Speaker 1: all sweetest odors, shedding blinding brilliance, overspreading, boundless beautiful all
- 2:57Speaker 1: spaces from his all regarding faces. So he showed, if
- 3:04Speaker 1: there should rise suddenly within the skies, sun burst of
- 3:08Speaker 1: a thousand suns, flooding earth with rays undeemed of. Then
- 3:14Speaker 1: might be that Holy One's majesty and glory dreamed of.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So did Pandu's son behold all this universe, enfold all
- 3:24Speaker 1: its huge diversity into one great shape, and be visible
- 3:29Speaker 1: and viewed and blended in one body, subtle, splendid, nameless,
- 3:35Speaker 1: the all comprehending God of God's, the never ending Deity.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But sore, amazed, thrilled, overfilled, dazzled, and dazed, Arjuna knelt
- 3:49Speaker 1: and bowed his head and clasped his palms and cried
- 3:53Speaker 1: and said, Arjuna, Yeah, I have seen. I see, Lord,
- 4:00Speaker 1: All is wrapped in thee. The gods are in thy
- 4:03Speaker 1: glorious frame, the creatures of Earth and Heaven and Hell
- 4:08Speaker 1: in thy divine form dwell and in thy countenance. Show
- 4:11Speaker 1: all the features of Brahma sitting lone upon his lotus,
- 4:16Speaker 1: throne of saints and sages, and the serpent races Ananthavasuki
- 4:23Speaker 1: yea mightiest Lord. I see thy thousand thousand arms and
- 4:28Speaker 1: breasts and faces and eyes on every side, perfect diversified,
- 4:35Speaker 1: and nowhere end of thee, nowhere beginning, nowhere, a center
- 4:40Speaker 1: shifts wherever souls gaze lifts thy central self, all willing
- 4:47Speaker 1: and all winning in finite King. I see the anadem
- 4:52Speaker 1: on THEE, the club, the shell, the discus, see THEE
- 4:57Speaker 1: burning in beams, insufferable lighting, Earth, Heaven and Hell, with brilliance, blinding,
- 5:05Speaker 1: glorious flashing, turning darkness to dazzling day. Look I whichever weigh,
- 5:12Speaker 1: Ah Lord, I worship THEE, the undivided, the uttermost of thought,
- 5:18Speaker 1: the treasure pallace wrought to hold the wealth of the worlds,
- 5:22Speaker 1: the shield provided to shelter virtues, laws, the found wnd's lives.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Stream draws all waters, of all rivers, of all being,
- 5:33Speaker 1: the one, unborn, unending, unchanging and unblending with might and majesty,
- 5:39Speaker 1: past thought, past seeing silver of moon and gold of sun.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Our glances rolled from thy great eyes, Thy visage beaming
- 5:50Speaker 1: tender o'er the stars and skies doth to warm life,
- 5:55Speaker 1: surprise thy universe, the worlds of filled with wonder of
- 6:01Speaker 1: Thy perfections, space star sprinkled, and the place from pole
- 6:07Speaker 1: to pole of the heavens, from bound to bound, hath
- 6:10Speaker 1: THEE in every spot, THEE, THEE where thou art not
- 6:15Speaker 1: O holy marvelous form is nowhere found O mystic awful one.
- 6:21Speaker 1: At sight of THEE made known the three worlds quake.
- 6:26Speaker 1: The lower gods draw niye THEE. They fold their palms
- 6:30Speaker 1: and bow, body and breast and brow, and whispering worship
- 6:34Speaker 1: loud and magnify THEE. Rishi's and Scytha's cry Hail Highest
- 6:40Speaker 1: Majesty from sage and singer breaks the Hymn of Glory
- 6:45Speaker 1: in holy melody, sounding the praise of THEE, while countless
- 6:50Speaker 1: companies take up the story. Rudras who write the storms,
- 6:56Speaker 1: the Adythea's shining forms, Vasus and Sadhya's fishas ushmapas Maruts,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and those great twins, the heavenly fair Ushwins gandharvas Rakshasa
- 7:09Speaker 1: synthas Asshudas. These see THEE and revere in silence, stricken
- 7:16Speaker 1: fear Yea, the world's seeing THEE with form stupendous, with
- 7:21Speaker 1: faces manifold, with eyes which all behold, unnumbered eyes, vast arms, members,
- 7:29Speaker 1: tremendous flanks lit with sun and star, feet planted near
- 7:36Speaker 1: and far, tushes of terror, melts, wrathful and tender, the
- 7:42Speaker 1: three wide worlds before THEE adore as I adore thee
- 7:47Speaker 1: quake as I quake to witness so much splendor, I
- 7:52Speaker 1: mark these strike the skies with front and wondrous wise
- 7:57Speaker 1: huge rainbow painted glitter, and thy mouth opened and orbs
- 8:03Speaker 1: which I see all things whatever be in all thy worlds, east, west,
- 8:10Speaker 1: and north and south, O eyes of God, O head,
- 8:15Speaker 1: My strength of soul is fled gone, his heart's force, rebuked,
- 8:20Speaker 1: his mind's desire. When I behold THEE so with awful browse,
- 8:25Speaker 1: aglow with burning glands, and lips lighted with fire, fierce
- 8:31Speaker 1: as those flames which shall consume at close of all
- 8:35Speaker 1: earth heav'n ah me, I see no earth in heav'n THEE,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Lord of lords, I see THEE, only only thee. Ah.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Let thy mercy unto me be given thou refuge of
- 8:52Speaker 1: the world. Lo to the cavern, hurl'd of thy wide
- 8:57Speaker 1: opened throat and lips Wi toush'd I see are noblest
- 9:03Speaker 1: ones great thri Theashtra's sons, Peshma, Drona, and Karna, caught
- 9:09Speaker 1: and crush'd the kings and chiefs drawn in that gaping
- 9:15Speaker 1: gorge within the best of all both armies, torn and
- 9:20Speaker 1: riven between thy jaws, they lie mangled, fell, bloodily ground
- 9:27Speaker 1: into dust and death like streams down, driven with helpless haste,
- 9:33Speaker 1: which go in headlong, furious flow straight to the gulfing
- 9:37Speaker 1: maw of the unfilled ocean, so to that flaming cave.
- 9:42Speaker 1: These heroes great and brave pour in unending streams with
- 9:47Speaker 1: helpless motion, like moths which in the night flutter towards
- 9:52Speaker 1: a light, drawn to their fiery doom, flying and dying
- 9:57Speaker 1: so to their deaths. Till throng, blind, dazzled, borne along
- 10:04Speaker 1: cease leslie all these multitudes, wild, flying, Thou that hast
- 10:11Speaker 1: fashion'd men divorest them again, one with another, great and small,
- 10:17Speaker 1: alike the creatures whom thou may'st with flaming jaws thou
- 10:22Speaker 1: takest lapping them up. Lord God, thy terrors strike from
- 10:29Speaker 1: end to end of earth, filling life full from birth
- 10:33Speaker 1: to death, with deadly, burning, lurid dread. Ah wish no
- 10:39Speaker 1: make me know why is thy wisage? So who art

- 11:08Speaker 1: Thou seest me as time, who kills Time, who brings
- 11:12Speaker 1: all to doom, the slayer, Time, ancient of days, come
- 11:17Speaker 1: hither to consume. Excepting thee of all these hosts of
- 11:22Speaker 1: hostile chiefs are raid, there shines not one shall leave alive.
- 11:28Speaker 1: The battlefield dismayed, no longer be arise obtained, renn destroy
- 11:35Speaker 1: Thy foes fight for the kingdom, waiting THEE. When thou
- 11:39Speaker 1: hast been quest those by me, they fall not THEE.
- 11:44Speaker 1: The stroke of death is dealt them now, even as
- 11:47Speaker 1: they stand thus gallantly my instrument. Art Thou strike strong
- 11:53Speaker 1: armed prince at Drona at Bishma, strike deal death to
- 11:59Speaker 1: cur Jayadrata, stay all this warlike breath. It's I who
- 12:06Speaker 1: bid them perish. Thou wilt but slay the slain. Fight
- 12:12Speaker 1: they must fall, and thou must live victor. Upon this
- 12:16Speaker 1: plain Sanjaya, hearing mighty kishevs were tremblingly, that helmed lord
- 12:26Speaker 1: clasped his lifted palms, and praying grace of Krishna, stood there,
- 12:31Speaker 1: saying with bowed brow and accents broken these words timorously
- 12:37Speaker 1: spoken Urjuna worthily law of might. The whole world hath
- 12:44Speaker 1: delight in Thy surpassing power, obeying thee the rustius us
- 12:50Speaker 1: in dread at sight of thee or sped to all
- 12:54Speaker 1: four quarters, and the company of Syntha's sound Thy name,
- 12:58Speaker 1: How should they not pro claim thy Majesty's deafnest, mightiest
- 13:04Speaker 1: Thou Brahum than Brahma, Greater Thou in finite creator, Thou
- 13:10Speaker 1: God of God's Life's dwelling place, and rest Thou of
- 13:16Speaker 1: all souls, the soul, the comprehending whole of being, formed
- 13:21Speaker 1: and formless being, the framer O utmost one, O Lord
- 13:27Speaker 1: older than eld, who stor'd the world's with wealth of life,
- 13:31Speaker 1: O treasure claimed, who wottest all, and art wisdom thyself,
- 13:38Speaker 1: O part in all and all for all from thee
- 13:41Speaker 1: have risen numberless. Now I see the aspects are of
- 13:46Speaker 1: thee wy you thou art, and he who keeps the
- 13:50Speaker 1: prison of narak Yama dark and Ugny's shining spark. Varuna's
- 13:56Speaker 1: waves are thy waves. Moon and starlight are thine prajeopathy
- 14:02Speaker 1: art Thou, and it'st to thee men kneel in worshiping
- 14:07Speaker 1: the old world's far light the first of mortal men. Again,
- 14:13Speaker 1: Thou God again a thousand thousand times, be magnified, honor
- 14:18Speaker 1: and worship, Be glory and praise to THEE. Na'amu Na
- 14:24Speaker 1: muste cried on every side, cried here above below, uttered
- 14:29Speaker 1: when thou dost go, uttered, when thou dost come nam
- 14:35Speaker 1: We call no most Thu God adored, no most to
- 14:40Speaker 1: nameless Lord, Hail to THEE, Praise to THEE, Thou one
- 14:45Speaker 1: in all, For thou art all yea thou ah, If
- 14:51Speaker 1: in anger now thou shouldst remember, I did think THEE Friend,
- 14:57Speaker 1: speaking with easy speech as many use each to each,
- 15:01Speaker 1: did call THEE Krishna Prince, nor comprehend Thy hidden majesty,
- 15:07Speaker 1: the might the awe of THEE did in my heedlessness,
- 15:12Speaker 1: or in my love on journey or in jest, or
- 15:16Speaker 1: when we lay at rest, sitting at council, straying in
- 15:20Speaker 1: the grove alone, or in the throng, do THEE most
- 15:25Speaker 1: holy wrong. Be Thy grace granted for that witless sin.
- 15:30Speaker 1: For thou art now I know, Father of all below,
- 15:35Speaker 1: of all above, of all the worlds, within, Guru of Gurus,
- 15:41Speaker 1: more to reverence and adore than all which is adorable
- 15:46Speaker 1: and high. How when the wide world's three should any
- 15:50Speaker 1: equal be, shall any other share thy majesty. Therefore, with
- 15:57Speaker 1: body bent and reverent intent, I praise and serve and
- 16:01Speaker 1: seek THEE, asking grace as father to a son, as
- 16:06Speaker 1: friend to friend, as one who loveth to his lover.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Turn thy face and gentleness on me. Good is it?
- 16:16Speaker 1: I did see this unknown marvel of thy form, but
- 16:21Speaker 1: fear mingles with joy. Retake dear Lord, for pity's sake,
- 16:27Speaker 1: Thine earthly shape, which earthly eyes may bear, Be merciful
- 16:32Speaker 1: and show the visage that I know. Let me regard
- 16:36Speaker 1: THEE as of your arrayed with disk and forehead, jem,
- 16:42Speaker 1: with mace and anadem, Thou who sustainest all things undismayed.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Let me once more behold the form I loved of old, Thou,
- 16:56Speaker 1: of the thousand arms and countless eyes. My frightened heart
- 17:00Speaker 1: is fain to see restored again the charioteer, my Krishna's
- 17:07Speaker 1: kind disguise, Krishna, yea thou hast seen Arjuna, because I
- 17:15Speaker 1: loved THEE well, the secret countenance of me revealed by
- 17:20Speaker 1: mystic spell, shining and wonderful and vast, majestic manifold, which
- 17:26Speaker 1: none save Thou, in all the years, had favored to behold.
- 17:31Speaker 1: For not by weidas cometh this, nor sacrifice, nor alms,
- 17:36Speaker 1: nor works well done, nor penance long, nor prayers nor
- 17:40Speaker 1: chanted palms, that mortal eyes should bear to view the
- 17:46Speaker 1: immortal soul, unclad prince of the Kurus. This was kept
- 17:51Speaker 1: for THEE alone. Be glad. Let no more trouble shake
- 17:56Speaker 1: thy heart, because thine eyes have seen my terror with
- 17:59Speaker 1: my glory as I before have been, So will I
- 18:04Speaker 1: be again for THEE, with lightened heart behold once more
- 18:09Speaker 1: I am thy Krishna. The form thou knewest of old Sonjaya.
- 18:16Speaker 1: These words to Arjuna, spake Basudev, and straight did take
- 18:21Speaker 1: back again the semblance dear of the well loved charioteer.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Peace and joy it did restore when the prince beheld
- 18:31Speaker 1: once more mighty Brahma's form and face clothed in Krishna's
- 18:36Speaker 1: gentle grace. Arjuna, Now that I see come back Janardana,
- 18:43Speaker 1: this friendly human frame, my mind can think calm thoughts
- 18:48Speaker 1: once more. My heart beats still again. Krishna. Yeah, it
- 18:55Speaker 1: was wonderful and terrible to view me as thou didst
- 18:59Speaker 1: Dear Prince, the God's dread and desire continually to view.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yet not by weithers, nor from sacrifice, nor penance, nor
- 19:09Speaker 1: gift giving, nor with prayer, shall any so behold as
- 19:13Speaker 1: thou hast seen. Only by fullest service, perfect faith, and
- 19:20Speaker 1: utter most surrender. Am I known and seen and enter'd
- 19:24Speaker 1: into Indian Prince, who doeth all for me, who findeth
- 19:30Speaker 1: me in all, adoreth always loveth all which I have
- 19:35Speaker 1: made and me for Love's sole end, that man ur
- 19:40Speaker 1: Juna unto me doth wend. End of Chapter eleven
