- 0:00Speaker 1: One of six point seven Light FM and Unwritten Cubby
- 0:02Speaker 1: Christine producer Christen on this Monday, August third, and if
- 0:05Speaker 1: you're on the road right now, we feel for you.
- 0:08Speaker 1: It's a pretty rough out there, a lot of heavy
- 0:11Speaker 1: rain and it's gonna be like that on and off
- 0:13Speaker 1: all day long. Got some flood watches, also some flood warnings,
- 0:16Speaker 1: so I'm sure your phone is telling you if you're
- 0:18Speaker 1: under a flood warning. But you'll be safe out there.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It is not not fun. Supposed to be like this
- 0:23Speaker 1: kind of on and off all week as well. Oh yeah, right, okay,
- 0:27Speaker 1: but I'm hearing good things about Thursday. It's not our week,
- 0:30Speaker 1: but another edition of Broadway and Bryant Park. I believe
- 0:32Speaker 1: Rich Kaminski is hosting, so hopefully they have a good
- 0:35Speaker 1: window for that. So welcome to a brand new week, Christine.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Are you ready to have some fun today? Yes? Are
- 0:41Speaker 1: you ready for Sebastian Manuscalco tickets always we have your
- 0:45Speaker 1: hookup at seven to twenty five, at eight ten tickets
- 0:49Speaker 1: for the Rocky Horror Show on Broadway over there at
- 0:51Speaker 1: Studio fifty four. Love that, Yeah, So that's our giveaways today,
- 0:56Speaker 1: And as we begin to tackle a new week.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah that's about all I got. Yeah, yeah, your weekend
- 1:01Speaker 2: not too exciting.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We you know what, we have a little home, a
- 1:04Speaker 1: little shack in Pennsylvania. Yeah, I love shack, baby, And
- 1:08Speaker 1: we drove there and just did one night, but spent
- 1:12Speaker 1: the day Saturday, stayed the night Saturday night. Came back
- 1:15Speaker 1: yesterday and our Pennsylvania get away and we know, typical
- 1:20Speaker 1: farm stuff.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Got out in nature, a little bit nature that always helps.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And all the Amish people around us and all the
- 1:26Speaker 1: sheds and oh we went to look at playgrounds. Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 1: because the playground that we have at our house, the
- 1:32Speaker 1: swing set that the kids have, it's pretty pretty much
- 1:36Speaker 1: for a baby almost. Yeah, it's it's plastic. It's kind
- 1:40Speaker 1: of falling apart. They've outgrown it. So we're thinking about
- 1:42Speaker 1: upgrading their playground. So we were doing some pricing on
- 1:46Speaker 1: a swing set and they ain't cheap. I'll tell you
- 1:49Speaker 1: that right now.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Nothing is, Oh my god.
- 1:53Speaker 1: So if you want a couple of slides, a couple
- 1:56Speaker 1: of swings attached to it, and maybe a nice little house,
- 2:00Speaker 1: you know, how much do you think that is?
- 2:02Speaker 2: I can't begin to guess.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Finally made by the way it's gonna last forever.
- 2:07Speaker 2: A couple thousand from the way you're talking.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Well, the one that we're eyeing, which doesn't look too elaborate, toy, yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 1: is eight grand.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Oh oh right, wow.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Okay, Christen's ninder head.
- 2:18Speaker 2: No.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And we've seen I mean we've seen some play sets
- 2:22Speaker 1: nineteen thousand dollars, but they're like very stretched out, have
- 2:25Speaker 1: a lot going on. Whoa, And then you can find,
- 2:30Speaker 1: you know, a basic one for twenty five hundred and
- 2:34Speaker 1: that'll get you like two swings and maybe one slide,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but not the house and maybe right I'll bill de
- 2:41Speaker 1: kay after a year.
- 2:42Speaker 2: What are you going to do when when they're finally
- 2:44Speaker 2: ready for college? Because now I see parents moving kids
- 2:48Speaker 2: into the dorms and you know how we talked about
- 2:50Speaker 2: this last year. It's like twenty thousand dollars. They're like
- 2:54Speaker 2: souping up these dorm rooms, which I wish they would
- 2:56Speaker 2: come to my place, right, parentcy would have come to
- 2:58Speaker 2: my place.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And well done?
- 3:00Speaker 2: Right, Oh, they're doing a beautiful job.
- 3:02Speaker 1: No, I have to save somebody for that too. Yeah,
- 3:04Speaker 1: you know, come to think of it, forget the place.
- 3:06Speaker 2: To place that, Yeah, you just put that money.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Has been canceled ahead, Christine, Sorry, thank you very much.
- 3:12Speaker 1: All Right, we're coming right back with two pretty cool things.
- 3:14Speaker 1: A Monday has begun. Thank you for spending your morning
- 3:17Speaker 1: with us.
- 3:18Speaker 3: More Covey and Christine and the great music variety you
- 3:21Speaker 3: expect next on light at them.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I need to tell you.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Two sundys Cobbe and Christine's too, pretty cool things. Well,
- 3:31Speaker 1: if you want to detail your car, and when it
- 3:33Speaker 1: comes down to the shining of the tires, you know
- 3:35Speaker 1: you don't need to buy anything fancy. You know what
- 3:37Speaker 1: people are using these days as a hack Lemon pledge
- 3:42Speaker 1: as a tire shine. It's considered an old school detailing
- 3:46Speaker 1: trick I've never heard of. It leaves a clean sat
- 3:49Speaker 1: and matte finish instead of a greasy high gloss Look
- 3:52Speaker 1: lemon pledge. Do a little dusting and do your tires. Wow,
- 3:56Speaker 1: what do you have as a cool thing, Christine?
- 3:58Speaker 2: Well, if you're like me and you're still to get
- 4:00Speaker 2: away but you haven't made your plans, you could get
- 4:03Speaker 2: great airfare. The way to do it is to book
- 4:06Speaker 2: your trip. This is flying within the US. Just fifteen
- 4:10Speaker 2: to thirty days before you fly.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Okay, you don't have to think too far in fancy, right.
- 4:15Speaker 2: So it's okay because we're kind of in that window.
- 4:17Speaker 2: So you want to get away the end of the month,
- 4:18Speaker 2: you'll spend an average of one hundred and thirty dollars
- 4:21Speaker 2: less if you book fifteen to thirty days before you fly.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Also pick the cheapest day of the week to depart,
- 4:28Speaker 2: which is tuesdays, and you'll save fourteen percent.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So if you can leave on a Tuesday and then
- 4:34Speaker 1: come back whenever, yeah, you'll be good.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yes, So there's still hope.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean it's you know, we still have
- 4:40Speaker 1: like a good month until school begins for the Tri
- 4:43Speaker 1: state area, right, roughly a month. Yeah, but you know
- 4:45Speaker 1: today is the first day of school in Atlanta, Georgia
- 4:48Speaker 1: and a lot of places way south, crazy, I know, right,
- 4:51Speaker 1: we didn't get out in May, but yeah, school is
- 4:54Speaker 1: beginning today in a lot of places.
- 4:56Speaker 3: More Covey and Christine and the great music variety you
- 4:59Speaker 3: except Sunlight.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I found.
- 5:01Speaker 1: It was a bad weekend for Martha Reeves, wasn't it. Christine.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Martha Reeves is a Motown legend, and she went viral
- 5:08Speaker 1: this past weekend for a very shaky, off key rendition
- 5:11Speaker 1: of the US National anthem. Now, before we play this, yes,
- 5:15Speaker 1: can we just you know, we're not gonna really we
- 5:18Speaker 1: can't be mad at her all right, of course not.
- 5:20Speaker 1: She's an icon, but we can pick her apart, right,
- 5:23Speaker 1: But before we do so, let's talk about her better days,
- 5:26Speaker 1: like in the sixties and seventies when she had these
- 5:28Speaker 1: hits Martha Reeves and the Vandelas that was a big
- 5:39Speaker 1: one for them, and this one little sample there of
- 5:56Speaker 1: motown icon Martha Reeves. But on sad day over in Springfield, Illinois,
- 6:02Speaker 1: at the historic first women's Pro Baseball League game, she
- 6:06Speaker 1: did the national anthem and it was a little shaky
- 6:09Speaker 1: dog as Randy would say. Yes, Randy Jackson back in
- 6:13Speaker 1: the American Idol days, here we go. Can we play
- 6:15Speaker 1: the clip or should we just play the whole thing?
- 6:16Speaker 1: It's actually pretty short, it's a minute twenty.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Well, let's start it and see how long long we.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Last, you know, like the Gong show. Okay, we'll hit
- 6:25Speaker 1: the you ORMEO hit the gong, or Christie can hit
- 6:27Speaker 1: the gong and we'll stop it. All right, But here
- 6:29Speaker 1: we go.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Oh can you see bye bye?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Was so proud?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Well, why why nast sleep.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Rocks drive sad r a little pitchy, why the sweet us?
- 7:00Speaker 2: We're so girl?
- 7:03Speaker 1: These stream mean? All right? Do you want to hear
- 7:06Speaker 1: the next forty four seconds? I just okay, okay, yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 1: why not? Yeah, we've gone this far.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Yeah, and the rocks, the balls bursting in air, rule
- 7:21Speaker 4: through the night.
- 7:23Speaker 2: That al was still still there.
- 7:30Speaker 1: All right, we got twenty nine seconds left. You want it?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Why not? Let's keep going?
- 7:34Speaker 4: Oh samees sast thame go ben.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Word or the land on the tree.
- 7:51Speaker 4: And the hell of the r.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Let's let's gong it, let's gong it. We got to
- 8:02Speaker 1: the end.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I don't know what to say exactly.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Look you or me, we could never do that.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I wouldn't.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I wouldn't be that good. Yes, that would
- 8:11Speaker 1: be good for me. But yeah, Martha reeves getting some
- 8:16Speaker 1: bad press on this, but.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I mean she did.
- 8:21Speaker 1: She did, and we got to talk about heat Wave
- 8:24Speaker 1: again and other songs.
- 8:26Speaker 2: So there's that.
- 8:27Speaker 1: We brought back her old hits.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I think I think she tried to you know, personalized styleize. Yeah,
- 8:34Speaker 2: all right, and she had she had a singer with her.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It sounded like, yeah, a backup singer.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yeah, she had some backup singers. I don't know who
- 8:40Speaker 1: they were. You're right, but people are comparing it to
- 8:43Speaker 1: Fergie when she did a really bad national anthem.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Yeah, there's one, yes, where Fergie kind of takes off
- 8:50Speaker 2: it did. There's some similarities there.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yes. To me, the worst one ever is Rosie o'donald
- 8:54Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Ros O Donald no not.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Bar yeah yeah, rosean bar yeah yeah. And she did
- 9:03Speaker 1: it like really bad and then she spin at the
- 9:05Speaker 1: end and grabbed her crotch.
- 9:06Speaker 2: That maybe bad on purpose? Was that the idea?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was bad, but people didn't really know
- 9:12Speaker 1: her sense of humor. Yeah, it was very disrespectful. But anyway,
- 9:15Speaker 1: hit us up at four four, three, six three on
- 9:18Speaker 1: your take on Martha Reeves.
- 9:20Speaker 3: More Covey and Christine and the great music variety you
- 9:23Speaker 3: expect next on Light at Them.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Right now, we're gonna talk like it's nineteen eighty six,
- 9:28Speaker 1: not twenty twenty six. Let's talk about VHS.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Well, I mean, if you've got stuff from nineteen eighty six,
- 9:34Speaker 2: it could pay off in twenty twenty six. But Covey,
- 9:36Speaker 2: who knew? Who knew? So people are now collecting VHS
- 9:41Speaker 2: tapes not to play them. They want them sealed up
- 9:45Speaker 2: original packaging. But if you've got mint conditions, Star Wars,
- 9:49Speaker 2: Back to the Future Jaws, they are worth thousands of dollars, but.
- 9:53Speaker 1: They have to be like in their plastic still never
- 9:55Speaker 1: taken out. Yeah, which I think I have a few
- 9:58Speaker 1: of those, but I don't know they're Jaws. I definitely do.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Christin does too. Right.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, you've got some VHS tapes that are like
- 10:04Speaker 2: not opened really.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Either ones I got for free back in the day,
- 10:10Speaker 1: or I bought it and then someone gave it to
- 10:13Speaker 1: me as a gift, and I have multiple copies.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't remember thoughts.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But if it's a treasure trove.
- 10:20Speaker 1: If I'm out here tomorrow, it's the Mega Millions, or you.
- 10:22Speaker 2: At a Star Wars mint condition, right, right, right.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It's funny you brought this up because my wife and
- 10:28Speaker 1: I were thrifting yesterday in Pennsylvania and I came across
- 10:31Speaker 1: I know it's hard to see, but I took a
- 10:33Speaker 1: picture of it. I'm showing it to you, Christine. It's
- 10:34Speaker 1: a VCR from nineteen seventy eight.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Oh, it's a major console, yeah, big huge.
- 10:40Speaker 1: It was twenty bucks. I thought about getting it, and
- 10:43Speaker 1: then I asked chat GPT like is it worth anything,
- 10:46Speaker 1: and it said looking at it, probably not, but if
- 10:48Speaker 1: it's in mint condition, you could get babe over one
- 10:50Speaker 1: hundred for it. But no, that's so funny. How big
- 10:53Speaker 1: these babies were. Yeah, I mean just massive. And now
- 10:56Speaker 1: what your cable box you were talking about at home
- 10:58Speaker 1: is like the size of a like a battery pack
- 11:01Speaker 1: for a phone.
- 11:02Speaker 2: It's yeah, it's small. Yeah, it's really really small. Yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 2: things are completely different. I'm just surprised people want stuff
- 11:09Speaker 2: with I keep reading about like this generation not wanting
- 11:13Speaker 2: stuff and wanting to downsize, but you want to you
- 11:16Speaker 2: want this, Okay.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good point. That's a great point.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Because there's some good, like really valuable stuff you don't want.
- 11:23Speaker 2: But okay, I guess it's all in the eye of
- 11:26Speaker 2: the beholder.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It really is, really is. And if you have old
- 11:29Speaker 1: VHS tapes and you think there might be worth something,
- 11:31Speaker 1: what do you have? Give us a text at four
- 11:34Speaker 1: four three sixty three as you get ready for the news, Christine.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It was donating online, by the way, so they're gone, yes, well,
- 11:40Speaker 2: oh this is important, kubby. Why you need to keep
- 11:42Speaker 2: your clothes on.
- 11:43Speaker 3: More Cubby and Christine and the great music variety you
- 11:46Speaker 3: expect next on Light at Them, we.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Have a question for you, the lovely Light FM audience.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Whose side are you on? It's Cubby Christine, No, not us,
- 11:54Speaker 1: hopefully you're on both of our sides. But the audio
- 11:57Speaker 1: we're about to play, So a birthday celebration at Joey
- 12:00Speaker 1: Tomatoes goes viral after owner's heated reaction. That's the headline.
- 12:05Speaker 1: And Joey Tomatoes is located in Point Pleasant Beach Rights
- 12:08Speaker 1: on the boardwalk.
- 12:09Speaker 2: So a family went in there and they were celebrating
- 12:13Speaker 2: their nephew's birthday. He's turning five. Five And I guess
- 12:18Speaker 2: the person who was, you know, heading the party is
- 12:21Speaker 2: the person who posted this video online and said, like
- 12:25Speaker 2: what happened? We bought five pizzas, we bought drinks, We
- 12:28Speaker 2: spent two hundred and fifty bucks, and then they asked
- 12:31Speaker 2: the owner for a knife to cut up the cake
- 12:33Speaker 2: for the five year old boy, and that's where the
- 12:35Speaker 2: trouble began.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Yeah, here's a piece of that audio.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Okay, it's a five.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Year old birthday park, it's a five year old burper party.
- 12:43Speaker 1: We just want to cut the cake. It's an appropriate you.
- 12:53Speaker 4: For ars.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Tough to hear it time. Did you got the gist
- 13:01Speaker 1: of it right?
- 13:01Speaker 2: The owner was upset right because she said, this is
- 13:04Speaker 2: a restaurant, you're not bringing in outside food. I don't
- 13:07Speaker 2: know what happened right before, because at this point it's
- 13:10Speaker 2: escalated where the owner's clearly very upset. Huh. But she
- 13:15Speaker 2: was against it, and the family was arguing, as a
- 13:18Speaker 2: five year old kid, can we just cut the cake?
- 13:20Speaker 2: I guess she wanted a heads up. Some are saying
- 13:22Speaker 2: they did call ahead of time, the owner didn't know
- 13:24Speaker 2: about it.
- 13:26Speaker 1: My only question is are we seeing everything?
- 13:28Speaker 2: We're never seeing everything right?
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah, But my immediate thought is, come on, just five
- 13:33Speaker 1: year kids, go with it. They spent money at your
- 13:36Speaker 1: restaurant already. Just give give the father a knife to
- 13:39Speaker 1: cut the cake, right, you know? I know, and I
- 13:41Speaker 1: think they claimed that, the family claim they even said, hey,
- 13:45Speaker 1: we'll pay for a cutting fee if you need to.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I don't know if that's on video, but I don't know.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I kind of stand on the parents side. A little
- 13:54Speaker 1: part of me gets.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Why, you know why the owner's upset. The owner's upset, Yeah,
- 13:59Speaker 2: because you're not supposed to bring in outside food.
- 14:02Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, but you know, they spent so much
- 14:05Speaker 1: money on pizza. I mean, it's uned like they brought
- 14:07Speaker 1: everything in from outside.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm kind of leaning towards the parents,
- 14:13Speaker 1: but I do see. I don't think she needed to
- 14:14Speaker 1: get that upset. I'll tell you that right now.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Right that's what I'm saying what happened just before, because
- 14:19Speaker 2: we get her at the height of being upset, correct,
- 14:23Speaker 2: and she clearly like was done with this situation, just
- 14:26Speaker 2: didn't want to do it. I do get it as
- 14:28Speaker 2: a business right that you don't want to tell people, Yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 2: you can just bring outside food in. Usually you want
- 14:37Speaker 2: to heads up on something like that. The famili said
- 14:39Speaker 2: they did call ahead. I'm not really sure. I think
- 14:42Speaker 2: in this situation, yeah, I wish she kind of had
- 14:45Speaker 2: just rolled with it, because.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yeah, if I was the owner of Joey Tomatoes and
- 14:48Speaker 1: I was working or a manager of Joey Tomatoes, I
- 14:51Speaker 1: would just say, here's a knife done.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I mean, you might have said or I would say,
- 14:56Speaker 2: you know, typically we don't do this right. We would
- 14:58Speaker 2: have appreciated a heads up. But I don't know exactly
- 15:01Speaker 2: what happened there.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Where do you fall Give us a text at four
- 15:06Speaker 1: four three six three or call us at one hundred
- 15:09Speaker 1: two two two one oh sixty seven. All right, we're
- 15:11Speaker 1: here for you, Light AFM.
- 15:13Speaker 3: More Covey and Christine and the great music variety you
- 15:15Speaker 3: expect next on Light.
- 15:17Speaker 1: FM one to six pointy seven Light of FM, Cubby
- 15:19Speaker 1: and Christine. Just to put a little bow on this
- 15:21Speaker 1: topic that we kicked off about fifteen minutes ago about
- 15:23Speaker 1: the restaurant in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Joey Tomatoes, the
- 15:27Speaker 1: name of the restaurant. Family goes in fifth birthday party
- 15:30Speaker 1: for a child. Yeah, they already bought pizza, they bought
- 15:33Speaker 1: a lot from the restaurant, but they brought their own
- 15:35Speaker 1: cake in. They had to borrow a knife from the
- 15:38Speaker 1: restaurant to cut the cake and the restaurant owner got
- 15:41Speaker 1: mad about that. It's now a viral video, right and
- 15:44Speaker 1: what side are you on?
- 15:46Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 15:47Speaker 1: And people texted in We got a few reactions.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's definitely split Cubby. A lot of people
- 15:53Speaker 2: are saying, hey, you know it's a five year old.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Just hand over the knife so they can cut the
- 15:58Speaker 2: cake and keep them happy and don't fight, right, Yes,
- 16:02Speaker 2: And five one six is saying it's not fair to
- 16:04Speaker 2: the restaurants. You're not supposed to bring in food from
- 16:06Speaker 2: the outside. But yeah, I think that's like, you know,
- 16:09Speaker 2: a really important point. Has anybody thought of the five
- 16:12Speaker 2: real boy who may feel trauma from this? I am
- 16:15Speaker 2: an educator, so okay, yeah, I'm with you because I
- 16:18Speaker 2: was thinking the same thing, and I get fighting in
- 16:21Speaker 2: from this.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Little guy, and I get the point about not bringing
