Transcript
- 0:01The sun is shining out a cloud in the sky. We wouldn't know because
- 0:07we're so happy inside. Some people on some skis, but we would rather
- 0:15sit on down and talk. Some movies were the evid Indoorsmen. Come listen
- 0:21to our show. We're the evident Indoorsmen at home on the go. We're
- 0:26the Evidendorsmen. We hope you love it, so come on in and stay.
- 0:33We'll do our best to make you smile with the indors Man. Man,
- 0:40what is happening? I'm Rob Lundquist and I'm book and we are the
- 0:45Avid Endorsement. Hello every one. Hello, what's going on? Bud?
- 0:52Not much? I'm doing great. I just had a funny conversation with our
- 0:57buddy Dave where he was like, oh, I'm gonna get away from Timberwolves
- 1:03talk because it's not been going great. I'll listen to the Evin Endorsement.
- 1:07And we were happy. We were so we were we believed so much,
- 1:12we had such hope. We were so young then Rob were It is funny
- 1:18to look back and then just three games later we're just yeah, wow,
- 1:25so sorry. I don't mean to make it basketball talk again, but that
- 1:27did that did crack me up because this will also be out after the series
- 1:33is done. So who knows. Maybe we pushed it to seven and one.
- 1:36I don't know. We could have, we could have, we might
- 1:40have that looking great. It's not looking great. It turns out making every
- 1:45shot and having the best offensive player in the league is good. Yeah,
- 1:49and that's not us currently who I said, I didn't want to do it,
- 1:53and then I did it, so you did it. But I'm well.
- 1:56Otherwise, life is good. Sports are the same thing I have been
- 2:00telling myself all day. Sports or just for fun, it's er to get
- 2:04so emotionally it's nope, nope, we don't. I just it's Minnesota sports.
- 2:09They let you believe, they suck you in and then they just fall
- 2:15apart, and it's it's still been a fun ride. It's a fun team.
- 2:21And it's not over yet. I mean, at this point when you're
- 2:23hearing this, it's over. But we don't know. We don't know that
- 2:27yet. Yeah. But I'm good. How are you? I'm good.
- 2:31I had a wonderful weekend. Kelsey and I did that music festival. It
- 2:37was so much fun. So it's a music festival pretty much for old folks
- 2:42like me. But It started like each day, so it's a Friday,
- 2:46Saturday, Sunday. It went from like five to ten. There were three
- 2:49acts. Yes, you get your own little area. They called it a
- 2:53pod where they rope it off and so Kelsey and I had two chairs in
- 3:00our pod and we had a little section and you could order food to those
- 3:07seats. Oh my god, it was so nice. You went to the
- 3:13Alamo Draft House, but for for live music, and it was wonderful.
- 3:19We got to see Sarah Burrellis was our favorite. She was incredible. She's
- 3:23always so good. Brandy Carlisle, she was kind of the host of the
- 3:27whole thing. It was her kind of thing, so she saw her all
- 3:30three days and she's so incredible. Bonnie Ray was really fun. She closed
- 3:36it out so cool. Black Pumas were great Nickel Creek finally got to see
- 3:39them. They are just insane. It was a really cool, cool weekend
- 3:45and like, that's how I want to do a music festival. I will
- 3:49do that again. Like it was kind of expensive, but it was awesome.
- 3:53Yeah, it was so much fun. But the only downside was on
- 3:58Friday and on Sunday we watched the Games three and four while the festival was
- 4:04going, and so we were kind of just like groapy, going, well,
- 4:09yeah, but that was the only downside. That's cool, man,
- 4:13that sounds great. It was cool to get said so much fun. It
- 4:15was cool and we got to see some movies. But I want to know,
- 4:18what was the last movie you watched? Well, the last movie I
- 4:21watched is one you recommended. I think just last episode I saw the Ministry
- 4:26of Ungentlemanly Warfing. What did you think? I really liked it a lot.
- 4:30You were totally right, really really fun. I also am with you.
- 4:35I did not know that was the thing, you know, based on
- 4:39a true story and all that good stuff. I don't know how many liberties
- 4:42they took exactly, but probably a few, it would be my guess probably,
- 4:46But still it happened in one way or the other, you know.
- 4:49But yeah, just I mean basically everything you said. It's a stacked cast
- 4:55that I really loved. I thought Henry Cavill was awesome in this. I
- 4:59mean, and he's always so good, but he just seemed really charismatic and
- 5:02fun in this. I really had a great time with him. And that
- 5:08who's the big guy is that Alan rich Richson. That's exactly right. I
- 5:11thought he was pretty fun in this too. He was great. Yeah,
- 5:15it was like a slightly different role for him, which is funny. Hm.
- 5:18Yeah, carry Elvis was awesome. The dude who played Prime Minister Guy
- 5:25is amazing. I can't think of his name right now. What is that
- 5:29dude's name. I'm almost there. It's all be cool, So everybody just
- 5:36relax. Neither a road nor an Island. Rory kinnear right. Yeah.
- 5:44The big thing I know him from is that first episode of Black Mirror,
- 5:47which is like, yes, the worst thing ever. Oh god, I
- 5:51forget that that's him sometimes. He was the prime minister in that as well.
- 5:57I believe he was also the prime minister in uh in the Diplomat,
- 6:04which was a show. Yeah. So wow, he keeps doing it,
- 6:10and he's been in all he's actually looked at his filmography, he's been in
- 6:13a lot of stuff. He's really good too. But yeah, so I
- 6:17watched that. I really really liked it. I suggest people check it out
- 6:20for sure. I don't think it's streaming yet anywhere, but it will be
- 6:26soonish probably probably. It feels like it's been out for a little bit anyway.
- 6:30But yeah, I really liked it, and if you want to see
- 6:32some like hunky men get down and have some wartime, it's pretty great.
- 6:36It's pretty great. It's pretty great. Yeah, how about you, what's
- 6:40the most recent movie you've seen? Our first day in Destin, there was
- 6:44a bad storm that happened like it happened in the evening and it kind of
- 6:48carried over into the morning, and so we went and saw the new Ryan
- 6:54Gosling Emily Blunt film, The Fall Guy, which you talked about last episode.
- 6:59Just swips swapping suggestions. Here is that fun? We're cute. It
- 7:03seemed fitting to talk about Emily Blunt action film on this episode. I love
- 7:08it, but I felt like you kind of undersold it to me I a
- 7:14little bit so much. Okay, great, I didn't. I loved it,
- 7:19but I want to do the thing where I raised your expectations, you
- 7:24know all that. Oh, Chelsea and I adored it, like they have
- 7:29they just have the best chemistry. The romantic stuff was fun. The action
- 7:34stuff was so fun. So far. It is my favorite new film I've
- 7:41seen this year. Love that there hasn't been that many, to be fair,
- 7:45haven't. I've seen quite a few new ones, but by far my
- 7:48favorite. I had. Well, I say that, and then you know
- 7:53Dune Part two. I did love that, so you know what I'm gonna
- 7:57it's a step under that. It's my second favorite film though this year.
- 8:01I had a total blast. Yeah, I'm glad that I watched it in
- 8:05the theater. I think more people should if it's not getting the buzz that
- 8:09it should. I think I think it is that. I think it is.
- 8:11Yeah, I think they really scess. They've really advertised the hell out
- 8:16of that. Oh so yeah, I mean hundreds of millions of dollars had
- 8:20to go into that advertising for sure, right, But it's it's great.
- 8:24It really is great, so so fun. Yes, I did. I
- 8:28did downplay it a tiny bit also because some people don't like the plot a
- 8:33ton They're like, it was fun. They lost me a little bit.
- 8:37I just had fun the whole time. I was like, it's a stupid
- 8:41movie, but they're so fun. They could have been whatever. Yeah,
- 8:46I was there for it. He's so funny, well and she is both.
- 8:50He just gets such a good chance to be such a dummy funny guy.
- 8:54Yeah, I love it. I watched there's this guy. I shouldn't
- 8:58even say it but he he's an interviewer. I follow him. I don't
- 9:01remember where it's from. I don't know his name, but he thought it
- 9:05would be fun to pretend that it's Ryan Gosling, his same character from Drive
- 9:13and funny, you know, like further on in his story. Yeah,
- 9:20it turns out. Yeah, I like that, got some good meds or
- 9:24something's going on that's really funny. But I did not come up with that
- 9:28idea. I just liked that. Yeah, that's great. I also just
- 9:31love the like awkward stuff between them. It was so their chemistry and the
- 9:37awkward loving scenes is so good. I love it so much. So yes,
- 9:41okay, sorry, nope, you're good. What have you been streaming?
- 9:46So? Uh? I guess I don't know if it kinds to stream?
- 9:50You know me, I sometimes do another movie and this is I'm going
- 9:52to do a dumb thing and say, I don't think I talked about this,
- 9:56but stop me if I did. Did I talk about Bob Marley One
- 10:00Love? You did not? I didn't. Oh great, So I watched
- 10:03this actually a while ago, so it wasn't a streamer, but uh did
- 10:07watch it and I really liked it. Actually, it's the biopic of the
- 10:11Bob Marley biopic obviously, uh, and that Kingsley Bennadiere plays Bob Marley and
- 10:18does a really great job. I really liked it a lot. I'm not
- 10:22always sold. I think you're kind of similar in some ways. The biopics
- 10:26are not They're not always it for me like they're usually. I was not
- 10:30going to see that one in the theater because of that. Yeah, I
- 10:35really like this one, and maybe part of it is because I didn't really
- 10:37know the story. You know his story very much, obviously, love his
- 10:41music and all that good stuff, but really liked it. And then his
- 10:46wife is played by Lashana Lynch Rita Marley from She's Yes, and she's great
- 10:52in this as well. And then there's a it's a pretty like it's a
- 10:56pretty star studed cast as well, or not star studed, I guess I
- 10:58should say, but just really talented, like they all cool. I bought
- 11:03everyone. I thought everyone did a great, great, great job. Yeah,
- 11:07and I just really I really enjoyed this movie a ton. I thought
- 11:11it was really fun, nice and kind of flew under the radar a little
- 11:13bit for me. So that's going it out there to people. Check it
- 11:18out. You'll check it out when it's come to streaming. Yeah, see
- 11:20a fun little biopic. I think it'll be a good time. So,
- 11:22yeah, how about you? What have been stir reeting? Oh man?
- 11:26We went to Netflix and we watched the Roast of Tom Brady in three separate
- 11:30chunks. Whoa, it's over three hours long, dude. Yeah, I'm
- 11:35not watching that, so I might be really interested anyway, but I definitely
- 11:39be watching three hours. I heard that and I was like what. So
- 11:43many people did it and they just went up and talked smack about Tom Brady.
- 11:48There were some great moments, there were some not great moments. Nicky
- 11:52Glazer I think was the best of the night. That seems to be the
- 11:54overall consensus. She was hilarious. I've seen and heard a number of clips
- 11:58and she seemed like she was doing great. She was so funny. There's
- 12:01a guy named Tony Hinchcliff who does a show. I think it's like on
- 12:05YouTube. It's called Kill Tony, and it's pretty much a roast. He
- 12:09does it all the time, and so he had some those grazing one liners.
- 12:16And some sports guys were funny too. Drew Bledsoe was actually kind of
- 12:20a shocker. Yeah, he kind of opened it up and it was great.
- 12:22It was really fick. I forgot that he was alive even, I
- 12:26mean, yeah, you know because of Tom Brady. Yeah, that makes
- 12:31sense that he's the opener a lot of those jokes. And it was wonderful
- 12:35and Belichick did a good job too. Ben Affleck was I don't know if
- 12:39you saw any of his clips. No, I didn't even know. He
- 12:43Oh, real awkward. Was he just not into it or he got like
- 12:48angry? Oh, he was like talking about internet trolls and you could,
- 12:54oh, there's a lot of passion there. Yeah, it's like, I
- 12:58don't think we're talking about tom Brady anymore. I think we're talking about youth
- 13:03and the Ben Affleck speech time doing some therapy in front of a lot of
- 13:07people right now. It's kind of what was going on. That's a choice,
- 13:11all right. But yeah, it was super awkward to watch Tom Brady
- 13:13do this because he's just like you can kind of read his face like he's
- 13:18not loving it, and people really went in on him, like from all
- 13:24all sides, just really intense. I saw something he said he was like,
- 13:30I don't know if I do it again because my kids didn't have a
- 13:33great time or whatever. I was like, well, what did you think
- 13:37was going to happen? Look like the people. I would never ever ever
- 13:41sign up to do something like that. It would be horrible, to be
- 13:46honest. That's why I don't even really like them. It's just it feels
- 13:50even when it's like I don't think it's mean spirited or and it's well done,
- 13:54it still just feels lucky to me. I don't know I do with
- 13:58you, I just get a little like that's the that's the Midwestern I think,
- 14:03I think so, But I mean there's some funny jokes and stuff.
- 14:07There was some really funny the number of them. For sure. It was
- 14:11entertaining. It was pretty awkward at times. If you don't think you'd like
- 14:15it. Three hours is too long. Like I said, we we split
- 14:20it out smart smart. Yeah. But yeah, So if that's something you're
- 14:24interested in, it's on Netflix. They did cut some stuff out it was
- 14:28live, I guess, and some stuff gig did get. It's interesting.
- 14:33Speaking of streaming, did you see Netflix is getting a couple of games.
- 14:37You heard that you're talking about NFL game? Sorry, yes, I went
- 14:41tangent completely explaining. Yeah, I guess, I think, I guess.
- 14:46I don't remember even what games it was. I think it was only two
- 14:48or something. I think I heard it was the Christmas Games. That makes
- 14:52sense, that makes sense. It was something special by themselves. But yeah,
- 14:56so that's annoying. We'll have to you know, I got Netflix that
- 15:01it's not going to be too bad for me, but you know it might
- 15:05make it weird for other goofballs. Yeah, these goofballs. But yeah,
- 15:09well, what do you think, buddy? Should we do a few plugger
- 15:11roonies? I think we should. Cool. Guess that's always over on the
- 15:13Twitter machine where we're at abvid endorsment with a Z or you go to Facebook
- 15:18dot com slash the abbed endorsement. Also available on Instagram and TikTok at the
- 15:22Abbed endorsement as well. But if you really want to hang out and be
- 15:26part of the crew, it's about to go Patreon dot com slash the Avid
- 15:31Indoorsman. It's a great time on Patreon. We love our patrons. We
- 15:35give them tons of perks, and one of those is getting a shout out
- 15:37here. So let's give it up for Marsha Grisiac, Mary Fox, Nanette
- 15:41Walkley, Ruth Cood, Johan bros To, Jackie Houston, deb Olk,
- 15:46and Noah Flores. You guys are great, Thank you so much. And
- 15:50another perk we'll give our patrons is an extended version of every episode we put
- 15:54out. We call it our podcast and chill version, where we'll do a
- 15:58top five draft that pertains to the movie we're talking talking about. And for
- 16:00this one, we decided to do our top five favorite alien invasion movies.
- 16:07It'll be gonna be fun too. I only have a couple of weird ones,
- 16:11but I haven't had any weird ones I feel like weird, but yeah,
- 16:17it'll still be fun. Though. It's free ground for sure, pro
- 16:19ground, well, we will look forward to that. We'll also look forward
- 16:25to the coming attraction as we start. Jim Carrey June alrighty, then yes,
- 16:33smoking, and we're gonna start with wait, detective. He's been sure
- 16:38a pet detective. Just a delight. You guys are gonna love it.
- 16:41I can't wait to rewatch this movie, although I'm a little scared, but
- 16:45we'll get into that later. It's gonna be fun, though, I promise
- 16:49it will be at least a moderate amount of fun. So yeah, stay
- 16:55tuned for that. It will be levely. But we're here today to talk
- 16:59about a movie Edge of Tomorrow or Live, Die, Repeat, as we'll
- 17:04find out, the movie of Many Names, UH celebrate its ten year anniversary,
- 17:10and I am super pumped to talk about this. True and we had
- 17:15to bring back just a lovely man that we love and I would love to
- 17:18live, Die and repeat having fun with him for so long because he's the
- 17:22best. He is the best, So welcome back, Max fell Time.
- 17:26What's up, Maxophone? What's happened doors? Yeah, good to see you,
- 17:33buddy. Yeah you too. How you been man? How's life?
- 17:38That's pretty good? But to start all the summer gigs and stuff, so
- 17:45it's kind of like the calm before the storm. Kind of did my first
- 17:48festival last weekend, and then it just goes crazy balls all summer, which
- 17:52is fun right now, and in August I'll be super sad and tired and
- 17:56I'll hate everything. Yeah, and then it'll start over next year. There
- 18:02you go. I love that. I actually think we might have had you
- 18:04on around the same time last year, because that sounds very familiar, or
- 18:07maybe we've just talked about it in the past, because I feel you with
- 18:12a vicious cycle for sure. For sure. Well that's great. Uh,
- 18:17Well, if people want to find out where you're doing all these crazy gigs,
- 18:18they can go to either Themaxophone dot com, which will lead them to
- 18:22your faithbook page, or they can follow you on Instagram at the Maxophone that's
- 18:29where I'll make a website one day. Well you did it, just goes
- 18:33to Facebook. It works great. Yeah, that's all people need it,
- 18:37that's all they need, and they can see all the different bands you're in.
- 18:40Yeah, yeah, because we got it. He's gonna be playing with
- 18:41heat Box, he plays with the People Brothers band, and then Adam Grule
- 18:45and the Space Burrita's Yeah. Is it more than one burrito or is it
- 18:51just one burrito? It's multiple, but I think it's one burrito. I
- 18:57mean we're each burrito, but if like one big burrito because we're all different
- 19:03ingredients. I'm definitely in the spaith ingredient, got it, So it's it's
- 19:07more like the royal burrito. I get it. Okay? Cool? Yeah,
- 19:11yeah, nice, Well check all that out. That'll be super fun.
- 19:17We're super pumped to have you about it. Sure, and I think
- 19:19we should we should get into it. Let's start talking about the Edge of
- 19:23Tomorrow. I'm so excited and rob can you get to start it with just
- 19:30a rough synopsi sua. When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no
- 19:36military unit in the world is able to beat them. Major William Cage,
- 19:40an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission.
- 19:45Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop in which he
- 19:48relives the same brutal fight and his death over and over again. However,
- 19:55Cage's fighting skills improved with each encore, bringing him in a comrade ever closer
- 20:00to defeating the aliens. Nice great read, great read, good job,
- 20:07good job. Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes and hear what they have to say.
- 20:11Critics have it coming in at a rock solid ninety one percent. Guys,
- 20:15that's good. Wow, that's really good, fresh, very fresh.
- 20:19Audience members right in that same neighborhood, just to tick down at ninety percent,
- 20:23but still like super positive reviews for this. That's pretty fun. Love
- 20:29it, love to see it, love to see it. Let's let's hear
- 20:32what we think though. It's time for our hot hot take. Spicy that's
- 20:38a hot take. That's a hot take Aliens and stuff fire fire Thematically,
- 20:48this one doesn't work as well, but yeah, I will go first on
- 20:52this one. I can really vividly remember watching this movie for the first time
- 20:57and not knowing exactly, you know, like what to expect. I really
- 21:03liked it the first time I saw it, and I've continued too since then.
- 21:06I rewatched every once in a while. I think this is just a
- 21:10like, this is a mechanism that really works for my brain because it's kind
- 21:14of groundhog Day e right, you know that like sort of palm springy,
- 21:18kind of like repeat the day there was that what was that Happy Death Day
- 21:23or something? I think it was called that horror movie one that did.
- 21:26It's really fun too. I just think it's really ripe for really fun stuff
- 21:32to happen with that because you get to know these characters, but like,
- 21:34no one is sacred at the same time, so you can you can have
- 21:37a character die kind of a gruesome death, and then you know that they're
- 21:41just gonna come back. So I like that mechanic a lot, and I
- 21:45like this movie a ton as well. I think it's super fun. Obviously.
- 21:48Tom Cruise is just like a dude in it. He's just you know,
- 21:51he's out here being a movie star being awesome. Emily Blunt also just
- 21:56an amazing movie star that's incredible in everything she's ever been in. And then
- 22:02the rest of the cast is stacked impact. We'll talk about them a ton
- 22:06later, I'm sure. But yeah, I just I love the conceit,
- 22:08that mechanism of time travel mixed in with some like video gamey type stuff,
- 22:15you know, where you just kind of keep getting better at a level.
- 22:17Yep, more and more until your rage quit in my in my situation.
- 22:22But uh yeah, I don't know, Like I guess, I don't really
- 22:26have like a super hot hot take. I think this movie does a pretty
- 22:30good job of living within its own rules in a pretty good way. I'm
- 22:34sure there are some flaws if you really go looking, but yeah, overall,
- 22:38I had just a really nice time. I really like this movie,
- 22:41and I think it holds up incredibly well. I gave a tooth on saw
- 22:45nice dude hot take. Thanks. I think this movie is so awesome.
- 22:52I was so impressed with this the first time I saw it and was shocked
- 22:56that more people weren't going to the theater to see it. Yeah, that's
- 23:00right, because it was a slow start. I mean it was just stayed
- 23:03slow like it. It ended up hitting one hundred million in the US,
- 23:08but it took like a long time and like opening weekend, I think it
- 23:14was third and like it just people weren't going to check it out. And
- 23:18it felt like at the time there were so many sequels, there were remakes,
- 23:22there were comic book superhero films, and everyone was like, why can't
- 23:26we get any good original action movies? And then here was an awesome original
- 23:32action movie and it wasn't getting any love and it was driving me insane.
- 23:37I thought. Doug Lyman, who directed it, he did a great job.
- 23:42He most recently did the new Gillenhall Roadhouse movie Yes, which I was
- 23:48crazy. We've talked about it, and he directed the first Born film.
- 23:52He did Mister Missus Smith, so he can make a pretty great action film.
- 23:57I loved that it shows a scared Tom Cruise who doesn't know how to
- 24:03fight or be a soldier at all. It's so different from so many of
- 24:07his previous action movies where he's just badass the whole time and knows how to
- 24:12do everything. So I really enjoyed that. It was something we don't really
- 24:15see from him very often. I also loved the plot. I had the
- 24:21same It was like a video game. Love that. Yeah, I was
- 24:25just thoroughly entertained. I was glad to have an excuse to rewatch this one.
- 24:32Yeah, for a hot take. It did feel like there were some
- 24:34kind of plot holes a little bit, but they don't bug me, like
- 24:38for the whole like being able to see the Omega thing by putting that thing
- 24:45in his leg, and like why they had to like chase out of there.
- 24:48It was still so much fun. Like, it doesn't make a ton
- 24:49of sense, but it was so much fun. And it was also very
- 24:53convenient that this alien decided to hide in one of the most famous tourist attractions
- 24:59of all time, the Loop. They'll never know where we are, right,
- 25:07I loved that? But yeah, that's my love that hot take.
- 25:12Hot take. All right, Mexophone, what's your hot tag? Pal?
- 25:17I'm gonna give this one a slow clap because my recording may have stopped a
- 25:19little bit. But yeah, yeah, nice, No, I love this
- 25:26movie. It combined a lot of my favorite things from movies. The Groundhog's
- 25:33Day repeat day thing, I love those types of movies. I love that
- 25:37genre of films. I really want to be stuck in a day sometime to
- 25:41be able to perfect it. I think it'd be really fun. I love
- 25:44alien invasion movies. I love action movies, and I love like army training
- 25:48movie, like when they're basic training and learning how to fight, especially with
- 25:53its if it's cool feature weapons so kind of really hit my button. And
- 26:00all these things sort of combined to just be really fun, and it's what
- 26:02I want from a movie. It's like popcorn and flick. I mean,
- 26:04I don't have to think about it too hard, and it's just entertaining and
- 26:07really fun. And the action was really cool and uh good times all around.
- 26:14I liked it the first time. I thought, this is probably like
- 26:15the fourth or first time I've seen it. Uh so, yeah, that's
- 26:19not a hot take, but that's my take. I love it. It's
- 26:22not it's hot. It's funny hot, funny hot hot, so hot.
- 26:30Uh well, that's great, let's go. Let's move forward. Then let's
- 26:32talk about our favorite acting performance. And let's name the dude. I'm the
- 26:37dude, so that's what you call me, you know that? Or his
- 26:41dudeness or duder or you know, El Dudo reno. If you're not into
- 26:47the whole brevity thing. Next, what you got for your dude for this
- 26:49one? I don't know. I mean it's like two actors are the main
- 26:57hard I would probably say it's Emily Blunt, just because I don't think Tom
- 27:02Cruise has much of an acting range. He's just kind of always Tom Cruise.
- 27:07I think the only movie I've ever seen him in where he's completely different
- 27:10is probably Jerry Maguire something like that, or like Traffic Thunder. Yeah.
- 27:15Other than that, he's kind of just him in a different scenario. So
- 27:21I think I'll go with Emily Blunt. She probably did the most, brought
- 27:23the most emotional performance of anyone, and and sort of I think brought a
- 27:30lot more acting to the screen than Toms Well, and we had never seen
- 27:36her do anything like this before that, you know, she yes, that's
- 27:41crazy. Nobody knew that she could be an action star until this movie,
- 27:45and she was like, she was super badass. I love that she didn't
- 27:49have time to deal with an injured Tom Cruise, so she would just shoot
- 27:52him over and over. That was a very funny bit, sure, and
- 27:57just was not there to make friends, was not there to start a relationship.
- 28:00She knew what was at stake and it was a very fun role to
- 28:06see her play. So yeah, I'm down with that. I could pick
- 28:11Emily Blunt as Rita BRETASKI, Well, damn, I guess it's a clean
- 28:15sweep because that's why I picked as well. No shade on Tom Cruise from
- 28:19me. I just think Emily Blunt is one of the one of our great
- 28:23actors. I think she's really really good. She plays a ton of different
- 28:27She's Mary Poppins, for God's sake, and then also does this that's pretty
- 28:32crazy. Yeah, that's quite the turn. That's a fun point though,
- 28:36Rob. We hadn't really seen her do anything like this before that, and
- 28:40now she's been in a few you know, quiet place, Yeah, Cecario,
- 28:44right, she's kind of a bad ass. Yeah, so that's that's
- 28:48a fun that's a fun idea. But yeah, I'm I'm basically the same
- 28:52things you guys said. I just thought she was awesome. She brought a
- 28:55ton of emotion to it, and she brought like, I don't know,
- 28:59just the like she upped the ante I felt like for it and made it
- 29:03much more real for the and the part of that plot device for her character.
- 29:07But that's why she's my dude. Yeah, I get that. You
- 29:11know, Tom Cruise is the lead in this, and he was being Tom
- 29:15Cruise, but like I had mentioned in my hot take, he we don't
- 29:19see him be that guy. He like he was a deserter. He was
- 29:22like, you know, didn't know how to do everything yet, and so
- 29:26it was fun to see him start there and then we end up seeing him
- 29:30destroy these aliens and get really awesome at you know, his suit and all
- 29:34that. But I feel like he gets he's a little underrated for how funny
- 29:38he is too. Like he does it's not like laugh like go crazy laughing
- 29:44funny, but like he's so affable and likable, you know that, like,
- 29:48and he gets I don't know, he gets in those little like like
- 29:52what the ways that he died in the faces he would pull and things like
- 29:56that, they were funny. I think they were really good. So yeah,
- 29:59I liked that part. And part that is the director in those fast
- 30:02fats too true, you know, or the editor really but but yeah,
- 30:07he did a great job too. This is like one of my favorite roles
- 30:10in is actually and he does, you know, all the crazy stunt stuff,
- 30:14like I don't know, he wants to die doing stunts or something.
- 30:18He's crazy, man. But yeah, he's he looks really good doing that.
- 30:22And of course he was running a couple of times, which he loves
- 30:26to run. He does. He cruises, that's his thing. He cruises.
- 30:30You're good, You're good at stuff. You Uh well, let's go
- 30:33talk about the rest of the folks in this cast, because it's stacked and
- 30:37packed. It's time for the tuc aboard. Who's your I don't know.
- 30:52I mean, so, I guess Tom Cruise isn't a supportive actor, So
- 30:57for me, it's either the guy who plays in general. Yeah, okay,
- 31:07he's the best for real Paxton just because it's still Paxton and he makes
- 31:11me laugh. And his reaction to like when Tom Cruise knows everything and stuff
- 31:15is I think it's pretty great. Uh So I'm a flip a coin and
- 31:19say, Bill Paxton just like it. I love that. Yeah, man,
- 31:23I I love Brendan Gleeson, but I also I also picked Bill Paxton.
- 31:29I love Bill Paxton too. I love that in the beginning, he
- 31:33like acts like he's gonna help him out. But really he's gonna he's getting
- 31:37him ready to go into battle the next day and knows everything already but plays
- 31:41dumb and he's got his like rehearsed lines he likes to say, and it
- 31:47was fun seeing him do that over and over. And yeah, he plays
- 31:49a really well, surprisingly well. It also made me realize it's been a
- 31:55while now already since he passed away. Yeah, so super sad, but
- 32:00yeah, crazy. I loved him a lot too. Was that your pick
- 32:05too? Then? I was yep, okay, nice. I would have
- 32:07probably picked him as well. But Brendan Gleeson I thought was great, Like
- 32:12we said as well, so we're all in lockstep there. He's just super
- 32:19fun and I loved his you know, his kind of turn where he was
- 32:22like, arrest that guy, like he sucks, get him out of here.
- 32:27But special shout out to Tony Way, who played Kimmel. That was
- 32:30the only other guy I wrote down. I just thought he was so funny.
- 32:34I really liked him a lot. Was pretty great. Yeah, and
- 32:38he didn't get to do a lot, right. We saw him die almost
- 32:43as much as anybody in this movie, probably, But yeah, I just
- 32:46thought he was really fun in this as sort of a goofy character. Yeah,
- 32:51I feel like all the other soldiers and stuff, like you kind of
- 32:54could have put anybody in there kind of you know, they didn't add like
- 32:59kind of like they were just kind of like, uh, not stereotypes,
- 33:04but just rolls right, just like, Okay, we got the you know,
- 33:07the badass, we got the whatever. Yeah, I hear. The
- 33:12scientist guy was pretty good too. Yes, and I recognized that guy.
- 33:15Yes, what was his name, Noah Taylor, doctor Carter. Yeah,
- 33:21he was good. Yeah, he's been in a few things. He's really
- 33:22fun. I like that guy for sure, but yeah, not like a
- 33:29ton of supporting folks. Yeah, that's true. I guess I said it
- 33:32was stacked and packed, but like and it is, like those four are
- 33:37so strong. But yeah, then it's not after that, So I guess
- 33:40I'm full of it. But it's probably good. Pretty good. They you
- 33:45know, they spent more money on big names and stuff. They might not
- 33:47have made any money, which is so totally Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah
- 33:52that is crazy to think about. But yeah, so nice. Well let's
- 33:57let's keep it rolling. Let's go to our favorite scene, and then let's
- 34:00pick the dingus is quite simple, really, Dingus, Dingus, I can
- 34:07talk about my dingas all night long. What do you have for your favorite
- 34:14scene next? I love hearing that dingis one, sorry because I remember when
- 34:19we came up with that. Yeah. Absolutely, time, I'm just like
- 34:22perfect. I don't know, that's tough because it's kind of one big theme
- 34:29until he like loses his balad. Yeah. For me, I would say
- 34:35it's and it's always my favorite part in these type of like repeat day movies
- 34:39is when he's like I guess maybe it's the montage of him like getting better,
- 34:45but it's always my favorite part at the end when he's just like so
- 34:47sick of being there and it's just grizzled and it is the super expert and
- 34:52when he's like telling that dude what kind of ammunition he wants and he's just
- 34:53all mad and just like drizzled. I like that part. I like to
- 34:57see him how they end up on the back end when they're just like super
- 35:00experts and stuff and just thick of it. Yeah. Absolutely, because this
- 35:05movie is like one big montage for like an hour. It is, I
- 35:09know, I know. I also said the training montage. Yeah, that's
- 35:14like my favorite part of those movies. Is the training montage show like totally
- 35:17that could easily go into it, but that feels like one big scene to
- 35:20me, I'm with you because there were several of those and they were my
- 35:24favorite parts of the movie. So I would definitely say that just to mention
- 35:29a different scene when they break into the general's office and they have like the
- 35:34choreographed moves to sneak in there, you know, like they know they have
- 35:38to go so many paces and then go back and flipp her around and all
- 35:44that was really fun. And then just explaining everything that's gonna happen to the
- 35:49general and then like saying like what his secretary is going to say? She
- 35:52comes in and says, yeah, all that kind of stuff is super fun.
- 35:58Yeah, So I would throw that as a run her up. Love
- 36:00that that's great. Yeah, I think that montage is probably my favorite as
- 36:07well. Uh throw out though to a couple more scenes. The farmhouse scene
- 36:12I really liked. It's like a little bit more of a serious scene,
- 36:14I guess, but just like he's being so nice to her, she's kind
- 36:19of skeptical and then she's like, wait, how many times have we done
- 36:22this? And then he has to you know, he has to stop her
- 36:24by being like, you never make it out alive. I don't know what
- 36:28to do for you, you know. I just I really like that scene
- 36:31it and it feels like we get the gravity of how many times he's done
- 36:35this and you know, the human side of living through that or whatever.
- 36:38And before that they kind of show like, oh, he has to keep
- 36:44seeing her die and that starting point, yes a little bit. So then
- 36:49when they're there, you know that he's kind of starting to like fall for
- 36:52and oh you like three sugars and so then yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 36:58totally. I liked how they said that up. Yeah, me too.
- 37:00It was very effective. And then sort of a complete opposite of that,
- 37:06the the also kind of montage part where he's trying to get to her at
- 37:12the beginning, so he's trying to see the truck. Yes, I just
- 37:15think that scene is so fun. It is good. Just keep thinking,
- 37:21oh my god, like the first time it happens Bill Pexton, it's so
- 37:24funny. It's just like, what in the hell was good? And then
- 37:30you just hear on your feet maggot and him waking up, you know,
- 37:34right right over and over. It's pretty great. It's so so fun.
- 37:37I love that. But yeah, I guess yeah the montage. I do
- 37:43agree this one is kind of hard to pick a specific scene. Yeah,
- 37:47I don't know. Yeah, it's interesting. I do like that breaking scene.
- 37:52That's a good culture. Breacon scene was fun, and then you have
- 37:53the kind of crazy ending scene where they have to get the plane you know,
- 38:00all the way across. Oh yeah, that was like some pretty high
- 38:04action and that you know, they lose all of those guys that volunteered to
- 38:07help out, And I mean that that was pretty badass. Why was Why
- 38:14was Paris flooded? They flooded it, But I never could figure out why
- 38:21that happened. Yep, I never thought of it. Just like it's because
- 38:27like there was water everywhere, right, Like, am I crazy? It
- 38:30was okay, wanted a bath? I guess it wasn't water. I did
- 38:39not think of that one time. I'm so sorry I made you think of
- 38:45that. Maybe that's my hot take. Why was it? I don't understand
- 38:51what I assumed. He broke all the pipes when his big omega butt went
- 38:54down in the hall. Yeah, but like would that break the pipes on
- 39:00the streets? Dude, it's a big butt. It is a big but
- 39:06that's true. Well, I'm not here to pick nets. I just didn't.
- 39:08I didn't think about that at all. But that is a thing for
- 39:15wet. It can't be a dry omega. This isn't not but it works
- 39:23so well because then it They probably just made it wet because they knew they
- 39:28had the busted up plane and they could kind of use it as a boat
- 39:31like that's that was the that was why it was wet, and it worked
- 39:37well. The grenades can't fall down into him if it's not in water,
- 39:42it'll just be cooler. Let's just do it this way. It was cooler.
- 39:45Yeah, and then you see all the clips and then they just float.
- 39:50I liked that. I liked that was fun anyway. Sorry to bring
- 39:53up. No, you're good, you're good. We agree. It's the
- 39:57training montages. They were all awesome and just watching him get better and better
- 40:01was so much fun. Yeah, this movie rules, baby. There weren't
- 40:09like a ton of quotes, though hopefully you guys have some. I think
- 40:15we should go to this next bit. Let's do show me the money,
- 40:17show me the money, show me, and I feel like go, did
- 40:27we have a coffee tonight? I love it. I love it. Max,
- 40:32What quotes do you have for us, baby? I only have one
- 40:37because it's not much of a it's not a very dialogue heavy movie. It
- 40:40is not good dialogue. This is true, and it's a pacing quote.
- 40:44It's a spear. It is a nice crack of my ass. Yes.
- 40:50Other than that, no one really ever said anything. Yeah, nothing like
- 40:55real you know, that's for sure. There's some that were fun just because
- 41:01you kept hearing it, like the on your feet maggot, the hey mane,
- 41:06I think there's something wrong with your suit. There's a dead guy in
- 41:08it, and you kept hearing that. I think my favorite bit is while
- 41:15they're training, Tom Cruise is like stop wait wait wait, wait stop wait
- 41:20a second, wait a second. I've been thinking, I mean, this
- 41:22thing is in my blood, so maybe there's some way I can transfer it
- 41:27to you. Like I tried. Everything doesn't work. I mean, have
- 41:30you tried, you know, tried all the options, just like oh,
- 41:35you mean sex? Yeah? Tried it? How many times? Yeah?
- 41:42Try? I might as well try. Usually, like a common theme in
- 41:47these repeatable day movies where the guy figures out exactly all the moves to have
- 41:52sex fifility and he kind of just didn't do that, or maybe he didn't.
- 41:55They didn't show that in this part of the Montoni, but right,
- 41:59I thought that was a good restraint on that one. Yeah, yeah,
- 42:02I like that. I also like we mentioned it early, but the going
- 42:07back to scene just because it made me think of it when she is training
- 42:12him to be a super good well, I guess maybe that is the montage
- 42:15we're talking about where she keeps popping him. Yeah, awesome. Yeah,
- 42:21I get confused about which montage is. There's so many. Yeah, but
- 42:24yeah, she just he's like I'm okay, I'm okay, you know,
- 42:29like, come on, she's so ruthless. I love it. I love
- 42:32that. I can't believe we're saying there's no like serious and poignant lines in
- 42:37here. Uh when when we have a line like there's a hole in your
- 42:42chest and then he's like, did you just take my battery? Because she's
- 42:46like pillaging his body for yeah, and then he dies and that's like before
- 42:52she knows that he's like a part of the whole, Like she was totally
- 42:57just letting that dude die. Yeah, She's like, right, she's been
- 43:01in a million battles at that point too. I suppose, right, so
- 43:06what are you gonna do? At that point, it was her only time
- 43:09in that battle though, because she had like lost the power of whatever was
- 43:13true. True, that's true. She doesn't have time to wait for these
- 43:19people. Let them die. I got Yeah, this is another Paxton quote.
- 43:28But when he's like, private Cage is under the notion that he doesn't
- 43:30belong here and we must dissuade him of this opinion, that was really fun.
- 43:37I also love when he's like, that's right, Master Master Sergeant Farrell,
- 43:42you're an American. No, sir, I'm from Kentucky. Wait that
- 43:47is it is America. He must had so much fun playing this part because
- 43:52it's so silly and great. I love it. Let's see, I just
- 43:59thought this line was cool, or it's a great moment. But find me
- 44:01when you wake up and he's like, what come and find me when you
- 44:04wake up? Yeah, that's that's such a cool moment in the movie of
- 44:07like, wait a second, Yeah, I think that's super cool. I
- 44:14also love after that when he goes and meets the doctor, like she introduces
- 44:19him to the guy and they do like the whole the whole like hologram thing
- 44:24and tell them all about the Omega and all that stuff. His line when
- 44:29he's like, first of all, this is a terrific presentation, terrific.
- 44:35I love that line so much. It's so great. Just that felt like
- 44:39a real Tom Cruise quote, like I think, Yeah, yes, I
- 44:45loved that a lot. Oh. I love later when she's like ten minutes
- 44:54and then I'm killing you. He's just like fine in the they're in the
- 45:00farm farm. Yeah, She's like, I'd rather just reset. I'm tired,
- 45:06I should do some yeahs, do some research. Ten minutes and then
- 45:09I'm killing Yes. I thought that was great, but the terrific line really
- 45:15got me going. I liked that one a lot. Yeah, terrific presentation,
- 45:20terrific, but an actual poignant line too. Sorry, this is my
- 45:24last one. Okay, uh, it's all right to be scared. Remember
- 45:29there is no courage without fear, which is just a great line. I
- 45:32love that line, Paxton says to everybody. It's also a line that Dumbledore
- 45:37says, I believe to Harry Potter, so yeah, cool said that every
- 45:45time he goes to the bathroom. Yes, yes, remember there is no
- 45:50courage without fear. Bead down on my sick no Unley show, I love
- 46:06it. I have very reasonable poop sessions. Leave me alone. That's ground
- 46:14everybody. I'll tell you that. That was all the quotes I have,
- 46:17though, I think, well, then I think we should go to this
- 46:21next bit. Let's do the crying game. I think you cried twice,
- 46:34and I think the first one is at the house and she starts up the
- 46:37helicopter even though he tells her they never make it past that spot. As
- 46:40she is dying, she tells him her middle name is Rose. Yeah.
- 46:46I like that a lot. Yeah, that's great. And then maybe,
- 46:52just maybe the your good man cage. I wish I had the chance to
- 46:55know you better. And she kisses him, and then she goes off and
- 47:00dies, and then he dies, but then they come back to life because
- 47:04it's a great movie. That one did not get Okay, I don't think
- 47:10you cried anywhere else, though, Max, do you think he could have
- 47:14behooed anywhere else? I'm just always shocked that there's any crime, especially in
- 47:20this fun so man, I'm just gonna take a wild runner and say,
- 47:24reach, I think you might have cried at the very end when he gets
- 47:27to see you again and he's all happy, but probably not. I wouldn't
- 47:30cry anywhere in this movie, so I don't. I don't know, you
- 47:34have a hair. I know, I know, but trying to put my
- 47:38stuff in your shoes, trying to put myself in your shoes and guess how
- 47:42many times you're crying is really difficult. So yeah, I'll go. I
- 47:45think Rob knows you better, probably too. That sounds about right. Yeah.
- 47:51When I watch a movie, it's very much like the Streets of Paris.
- 47:53It is wet for just no good reason. You are right, buddy,
- 48:01it is too, was the other one what he said at the end,
- 48:06No, it is not. It was earlier actually, which it kind
- 48:08of caught me off guard. It's when they're in the car and they talk
- 48:13about the dude that she says never to talk about. I can't remember what
- 48:16his name is, Hendrix, yes, and she's like, he's dead,
- 48:21and I watched him die three hundred times and I saw everything. I remember,
- 48:25I remember every detail, so I don't need to talk about it,
- 48:30and I don't just her acting and that really got me. And then of
- 48:32course that's what he sees with her, right, So it's it's just kind
- 48:37of a nice moment. So that got me a little bit, so I
- 48:39ask this, does it just like make you feel feelings? Or do you
- 48:43are you actually crying? Uh? Number one, I feel like there was
- 48:47a little judgment attached to that which I don't love. I try to understand
- 48:52that. I do. If I count a welling of tears, I count
- 48:59that. But yeah, so usually there's there's moisture coming in into the eyeballs,
- 49:06a couple of wet omegazine, a couple of omega. Yeah, my
- 49:09omega. She gets wet for sure. So yes, there are actual tears.
- 49:19Well, I'm gonna take I'm gonna take it as a win even though
- 49:22I missed one, but two that's a win for sure too. You're a
- 49:28winner in my heart. Well, let's go to some movie trivia. Now,
- 49:34let's see. While filming the car chase scene, which includes the mini
- 49:37van and the trailer behind it, Emily Blunt was instructed to drive fast and
- 49:44then take a right hand turn so that the van would shake. However,
- 49:46she missed her mark. She missed her mark, and she drove the car
- 49:52right into a tree. She later said it was both hilarious and terrifying,
- 49:57as she almost killed Tom Cruise, who was in the passengers seat. But
- 50:00both of them immediately started laughing after the incident. So that's so surprising that
- 50:05they would even need to be in there doing that. Yeah, you know
- 50:08what I mean. Crazy, But he loves doing stunts. I'm sure there's
- 50:14some like peer pressure, like if he's gonna do it, I should do.
- 50:17It's a story about later. Oh, go ahead. Did she suffer
- 50:23any blunt trauma? Love it? She did not, But because of the
- 50:38stunts on some reshoots, Tom Cruise was one of the first people to learn
- 50:43about her pregnancy because the cast and crew returned a few months after principal photography
- 50:49he had wrapped to do some pickup shots and reshoots and things, and during
- 50:52the months between the two shoots, she had become pregnant and was only a
- 50:57few weeks long when they started filming, And so because she knew, she
- 51:02opted not to do her own stunts. But she wasn't telling anyone about that,
- 51:07basically because it was early days, you know, and all that.
- 51:09And Tom Cruise was confused because she, you know, had done all the
- 51:14stunts before that, and so she ended up telling him and apparently he was
- 51:19It was only her husband, John Krasinski and Tom Cruise and her that knew
- 51:23at this time, which is kind of a weird thing to say. Yeah,
- 51:28and I hope they tell their their kid all that every day. Tommy
- 51:32This and Tom Cruise were the only ones that have known you your whole life.
- 51:37So I thought that was kind of interesting. Let's see, this is
- 51:43crazy. Tom Cruise didn't want the Exo suits to be two CGI so it
- 51:46would be more real to the audience, and so he showed up two months
- 51:51early to research and develop the suit, and he thought its weapons were fun
- 51:54and cool, but no one told Emily Blunt, and so he was unprepared
- 52:00for the weight of the suit that they made, which was between eighty five
- 52:05and ninety pounds and then one hundred and one hundred and twenty five pounds once
- 52:07they put all like the armaments on it and stuff. That's ridiculous. She
- 52:12had to run around in that. I mean he did too, obviously,
- 52:15but she's much smaller than him. I assume that's you know that point.
- 52:21That's crazy. Yeah, that's so much weight. I have a trivia question.
- 52:28Ooh, hit it. I think this is true, and maybe I
- 52:32might have heard this and that might be wrong, but didn't just have like
- 52:36a bunch of like a different title before when it first came out, and
- 52:38they like changed the title like one or two times maybe, I think so.
- 52:44Originally the title was Edge of Tomorrow, but they had lived I Repeat
- 52:49as the like subtitle, and they went with that later. Yeah, that
- 52:52the tagline, that's right, and they went with that later like officially.
- 52:57So I don't know if the original piece was Lived I repeat. I don't
- 53:00think it was until novel I think right right, which was like, no,
- 53:05I don't remember what it's called, like that have a longer name.
- 53:08It was like a kill time I have it. I have It's yeah,
- 53:15all you need is kill right by that. But yeah, I think it
- 53:22was when they put it onto like DVD and stuff. Was when they saw
- 53:29the lived I repeat And then I think I saw red Box actually kind of
- 53:36messed it up and made it so it was Lived I Repeat colin Edge of
- 53:38Tomorrow, and it like did really well, and so they were like,
- 53:44all right, we'll have both of the titles. Whatever we did, which
- 53:47is super confusing. Yeah, it is confusing, but ultimately is a cooler
- 53:54title. Ever since you said the title that book, all this through my
- 54:00head is that beatles so I'm like, oh, you need his kill.
- 54:14Just have like different serial killers singing that in the video. That's a good
- 54:22idea. But yeah, so they ran around in those giant suits, which
- 54:27is crazy, insane, that's too much. Doug Lyman wanted to do the
- 54:32film because it showed a role, like you said, Rob of Tom Cruise
- 54:37hadn't done yet. He was very bad at what he does, and that
- 54:39was kind of fun. I agree. Oh yeah, so Cage accidentally sets
- 54:46his battle armor language to Japanese, and I guess that's a nod to the
- 54:51novels country of origin. And that's all you need is kill pop up.
- 54:59So that's fun, so much fun. When Emily Blunt's character is introduced,
- 55:05she's doing a plunge a plank hold, and although she needed a wire to
- 55:13help on the long takes, she's actually capable of doing that maneuver without assistance.
- 55:17And in fact, when they were discussing the introduction, a cast member
- 55:21just said, hey, I'm showing that yoga mood move and she just casually
- 55:25demonstrated it. I guess, so that must be the one where she's on
- 55:29the one arm. Yeah, that has to be I haven't done otherwise.
- 55:34It just looked like she was like stretching her back. They kept showing that.
- 55:37Yeah, right, they did show that a lot. She had.
- 55:39Her arms looked all beefy in that good work. Good work, you can
- 55:44tell she looked. What's that make you cry? No, just just the
- 55:54thought of how secure I would be in them, and they cry the arms
- 55:59it was. It was the hope of tomorrow. In the movie, readA
- 56:07appreciates having coffee at the farmhouse, and this is apparently another nod to the
- 56:13book character who is a coffee lover and has been introduced or had been introduced
- 56:19to coffee at an early stage of her life because her father was a super
- 56:23into coffee or something. And in the world of the book, the coffee
- 56:29growing has ceased and they drink like artificial substitutes. But she that doesn't pass
- 56:35muster for so she has some supplies of exotic real coffee beans and her only
- 56:40personal possession is apparently a coffee grinder. So just some book, some book
- 56:45of love there that they threw in, which is kind of fun. This
- 56:50is crazy, but Tom Cruise spent over one hundred thousand dollars on a lavish
- 56:53wrap party for the cast and crew that he did not even attend himself because
- 56:59he was finishing his for the movie, so he threw him this super sweet
- 57:02party and then just didn't show. Well, that was nice. It's super
- 57:07nice. He is like kind of renowned for being just a delightful man and
- 57:12giving gifts. There's one podcast I listened to where he used to work on
- 57:15the It was that all fantasy everything. I may have said this before,
- 57:19but he worked on The Late Show with James Cordon Cordon was his name yet
- 57:25Cordon, and they did some bits with Tom Cruise. And ever since,
- 57:30this comedy writer has been on Tom Cruise's famous cake list, and so every
- 57:37year he gets this fancy cake. Apparently in perpetuity, he will just continue
- 57:42getting this cake now, so that's kind of fun and weird. The filmmakers
- 57:49described this project as a cross between Groundhog Day and Starship Troopers, which I
- 57:52think they nailed. Both movies I loved as well, so it makes sense.
- 58:02And the Hiroshi Sakurazaka, who wrote the novel, got the idea from
- 58:08video games apparently, so he has said that that makes sense, like resetting
- 58:13and going again. Oh, I thought this was fun. They just it's
- 58:19never stated explicitly in the movie, but the in the In the original novel,
- 58:24the reason why Rita uses a melee weapon is because during her reset,
- 58:29she would often run out of AMMO, which resulted in her death. So
- 58:34she just found the convenience of a melee weapon and just went with it,
- 58:37which I think is kind of fun. And there was apparently a darker alternative
- 58:45ending, but I don't really understand it, so if you want to know
- 58:49about that, go read about it. I guess it was something about they
- 58:53were gonna it was gonna end up that they restarted the day as they were
- 58:58going into the the wet streets of Paris. They were just going to restart
- 59:04the day showing that the Omega actually won, basically, but it was a
- 59:07little hard to follow based on what they're doing. The fun part is you
- 59:14can kind of tell that that happened or that at one point that was an
- 59:16idea, because they when they're on the ship going into Paris, they're like,
- 59:21they know we're coming cage and they didn't really know they were coming apparently
- 59:27so interesting. I mean, there is the whole bit like why why did
- 59:32it go back to you know, earlier when everybody's still alive after they won.
- 59:42You know, there's that like I don't really care because I enjoy it,
- 59:46but it's like why but what Yeah, and we don't know. Yeah,
- 59:52I don't think. Now I was wondering too, is like now does
- 59:54he have those hours again? And he can like obviously you hate to test
- 59:58it, but question can he die now? And it's just going to read
- 1:00:01that or like, you know, he becomes eighty and then he dies and
- 1:00:05then all of a sudden he's back at that He's back at that same spot.
- 1:00:09Sure, sure, that's part too interesting too. Yeah, but the
- 1:00:17past had changed right when he woke up. Yep, they had won.
- 1:00:22They knew that. I don't know that is. I don't know. It's
- 1:00:24weird. I don't know the end, but I'm not mad at it.
- 1:00:28I just don't understand. Yeah, it's just like that's great, Like everybody's
- 1:00:32good, cool, cool, see you later. That is funny. Uh.
- 1:00:40Yeah, that was all the trivia I have. I just had a
- 1:00:43couple. Brad Pitt was originally considered for the role of Bill Cage and he
- 1:00:47could have done it too. And then I also saw that apparently Jeremy Piven
- 1:00:55was a role he was added during reshoots and then they ended up cutting out
- 1:01:01his part, so weird that again to have him come in and do reshoots
- 1:01:09and then it just got cut weird. Okay, so that's weird and the
- 1:01:15bummer for him. Yeah right, you still got paid though, right,
- 1:01:21still get paid. Yeah, we found that out from from Benny when he
- 1:01:23got Yeah, that's right, he got cut out of the That's Steven Soderberg
- 1:01:29show. That's right, that's right. Yeah cool. And was that it
- 1:01:35for your tribuna? That was it? That was all I had. Nice
- 1:01:37Max. Did you have any that we didn't cover or anything? No,
- 1:01:42No, I didn't take any time to look up any fact about You're not
- 1:01:45required at all. Well, let's play a game, you guys. You
- 1:01:51guys want to play a game. Yeah, we are going to reveal a
- 1:01:57brand new game. Whoa a new game? A new game. You gave
- 1:02:04me the idea when we were talking about our last movie game night. Okay,
- 1:02:08So this one is going to be called plot words. Okay, So
- 1:02:15I'm going to give you five different keywords or phrases that help describe a movie
- 1:02:22plot. They'll go from five points to one point. So if you guess
- 1:02:27it right after the first word, you'd get five points. If you guess
- 1:02:31it on the last word, you'd get one point. And you can guess
- 1:02:37once after each word, so you can guess five times. And if you
- 1:02:45like really want to go first, just ring in with your name. If
- 1:02:47you feel like you got it, ringing with your name. Okay, I
- 1:02:54look for the listener. He is doing jazz fingers, Yeah, a little
- 1:02:58spirit for I love jazz hands for your fingers. But yeah, that makes
- 1:03:02sense right? Yeah? So can you do an I know you have that
- 1:03:07prep. Can you do an example of Edge of Tomorrow? Edge of Tomorrow?
- 1:03:12So I'd be like, uh time loop alienas up? Yeah, you
- 1:03:22know, so then you'd go through those. Can you please do? Rob
- 1:03:28just had some fireworks behind him because of the new update. Can you do
- 1:03:32that when we get it right? Please? Yes? I can. That
- 1:03:36would be so fun. That'll be fun for our patrons. If you want
- 1:03:39to be able to see that, just go to patreon dot com slash the
- 1:03:43Avid Indoorsman, Seamless pluck good Man, good man. But yeah, does
- 1:03:47that that make sense? We feel good about it, I do, Max?
- 1:03:51Are you cool? Ye? Yes? So yeah, if you you
- 1:04:00could keep track so it'll be you know five, four, three, two
- 1:04:03one those yeah, yeah, will cool? Awesome? All right, you

- 1:04:23the usual suspect. Great, guess that's not correct. Guardians of the
- 1:04:28Galaxy, that's a guess and it's not correct. Okay, all right.
- 1:04:33Also, I forgot to mention this, all of these movies will have something
- 1:04:39in common, so there is a theme, and you can ring in at
- 1:04:45any time for another point for the theme as well. Okay, so there
- 1:04:48will be a theme between the movies. Got it that might have something to
- 1:04:54do with that you have tomorrow. Okay. First one is criminals, but
- 1:04:57I got your guesses they weren't right. The next word or phrase the US

- 1:07:31correct? Nice? Oh man? Yeah? Cool. So you guys both
- 1:07:39have three points. My theme. Guess I have a yes, yes,
- 1:07:46twenty four hours, you know it's I'm gonna give it to you. It's
- 1:07:51not twenty four hours. It's just like a a time so it's like yesterday,
- 1:07:58tomorrow, from dust till on, and there's other you know, things
- 1:08:01that will come up, so time date, stuff like that. Okay,
- 1:08:09it's it's a little fast and loose, but I like it. He gets
- 1:08:15you get one nicely done. You're in the lead. Three okay, so
- 1:08:21let's let's go to number three. The very first deal here is insurance employees.
- 1:08:32Nobody. I would not have had a guess at this point. Insurance
- 1:08:39employees. I'm gonna guess everything everywhere, all at once. That's a fun
- 1:08:44one, that is. But yeah, that's that's that's a fun one.
- 1:08:47It's not correct because isn't she an she's an insurance No, it's more like

- 1:10:10like that? Mute? Max? Well and Rob, I don't know.
- 1:10:13I've seen him for so long all I remember. I have like little images
- 1:10:16of it from being a kid, like but the plot and everything, I
- 1:10:19have no idea. I mean, I'm doing the general plot. But the
- 1:10:24Saint Paul Saints are having a game where they're bringing that guy in as part
- 1:10:28of the power Trip. Morning show brought it up because they talk about it
- 1:10:31funny. But they're bringing him in to do a seekend at Bernie's game.
- 1:10:34The actor Bernie. Oh, the corpse guy, the corpse guy. That's
- 1:10:40hilarious. He's like eighty something today, he's got to be like ninety.
- 1:10:45Yeah, they're bringing him in for a for a game and they're going to
- 1:10:47do a whole thing. It might be worth going to. Yeah. I
- 1:10:50like that a lot right, Sorry, good job, Max, I would
- 1:10:55not have got that. That was good. All right, Let's go to
- 1:10:57number four. The first one is New York City. Yes, how to
- 1:11:06lose a guy in ten days? Good? Guess that is incorrect. No,
- 1:11:13I haven't. No, you gotta wait, Max. What's it called
- 1:11:20the Day after Tomorrow? He got it? Five point five points a lot
- 1:11:29of sagon com yep, yeah, it was gonna be weather. It was
- 1:11:34gonna be wolves because the ice age. Yeah, nicely done. Five points.
- 1:11:44Seriously, that was the one I was like, I knew it.
- 1:11:45I figured, all right, let's go to number five. The first one
- 1:11:51is banishment. The second oh, five four three, Oh, we have
- 1:12:02to guess. Uh, you don't have to if you don't. Nope,
- 1:12:08nope, not the line can it doesn't really get banished? I got nothing,
- 1:12:12kind of uh. The second word is slavery banishment okay, four three
- 1:12:23two one bpp uh. The third one is the chosen one five four three
- 1:12:33two bugs. No, it's not like Star Wars. Nope, it's not
- 1:12:41New Hope, a new day of hope. Still no. The second to
- 1:12:46last one here is a biblical satire. What are the words banishment, banishment,
- 1:12:59slavery, the chow was in one biblical satire five four three two one
- 1:13:10pp Okay, Max year one year one? You got it with two points?
- 1:13:17Gotcha? Nicely done? Yeah. The next one would just would have
- 1:13:20been Jack Black Michael Sarah is what that would help? Nice? Dude?
- 1:13:28So where are we after five? Max has got fourteen, I've got three.
- 1:13:31He's kicking my dude. Helps a lot. That's cool, lot,
- 1:13:39alright, nothing, but let's go to number six. The first word is
- 1:13:46New York City US, how to lose a guy in ten? You got
- 1:13:53five points? I was laughing at myself that that was going to come up
- 1:14:04later. What was was both one of them? It was not. It
- 1:14:10was advertising a wager magazine and then McConaughey. I thought, for sure you
- 1:14:18would have got our guy in there. If only I know that Thomas Marvin
- 1:14:23Hamlichhh, yeah, I can't, like I know spoon feed you. All
- 1:14:29right, let's go to number seven. The first word is Chimpanzee four chamber
- 1:14:42Nancy uh one down of the Planet of the A would have been a really
- 1:14:50good one. Was that one of them? Don't? I think that's the
- 1:14:56most recent one that's like out in the theaters currently. Oh, but no,
- 1:15:01that is not it. Okay, okay, all right, let's do
- 1:15:06the second word. Okay, cool. Uh. The second word is coma.
- 1:15:14Say that again, A coma coma okay, five four three two one.
- 1:15:25The third one is a virus, yes, Max, No, this
- 1:15:32doesn't put the seam at all outbreak No no, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 1:15:38that stuff would have worked for this. A virus five four three two contagion,
- 1:15:46but yeah, it doesn't work either. Uh. The second to last
- 1:15:49word is zombies five four bukes Donna the Dead. That is incorrect, not
- 1:16:02a bad guess. Uh, I know what movie it is, but I
- 1:16:08can't think of the propper title. It's like, yeah, eight week,
- 1:16:12eight weeks later or something twenty eight days later, twenty eight days later.
- 1:16:15You just got nice at number two? Another two more points, two points
- 1:16:21and then yeah, it would have been Killian Murphy. I never saw that
- 1:16:25movie, and I heard it was pretty pretty great. They ended up making
- 1:16:30something week weeks later. Might be twenty eight weeks later. I don't know,
- 1:16:33but yeah, the first one's really good. The second one's good too,
- 1:16:38nice nice. I gotta check it out to check those out. Yeah,

- 1:18:00it's a little bit older, you guys, Robert, can you read them
- 1:18:06again? Phone calls robbery, hostage situation in nineteen seventy five five four three
- 1:18:17two one hard Nope, nope, not that. And the last one is
- 1:18:27al Pacino five four I should give it away three two one bet beep.
- 1:18:36This, of course was Dog Day Afternoon. I don't know that movie.
- 1:18:43Yeah. Yeah, so that's a tough one. Uh, these next ones
- 1:18:46are gonna be tough. To We'll go a little bit quicker. Number nine.
- 1:18:49The first one is London on Monday one. No, that is not
