- 0:00Hanan: Guess who's back?
- 0:02Lina: I don't know, back again.
- 0:03Lina: Us, we're back.
- 0:05Hanan: Yes.
- 0:05Hanan: You know what it is, guys?
- 0:06Hanan: It is a while.
- 0:07Hanan: It's um Labor Day weekend.
- 0:09Hanan: And so that means that everything is back in full swing.
- 0:12Hanan: The summer is officially coming to a close.
- 0:14Hanan: Kids are back in school.
- 0:16Hanan: Um, I have a kid that's in college.
- 0:19Hanan: Yeah, MashaAllah.
- 0:20Hanan: So it's amazing.
- 0:21Hanan: So it was that means it's time for Lena and I to be back on it, right?
- 0:24Hanan: It was nice.
- 0:26Hanan: We had a really nice summer off, right?
- 0:28Hanan: Yes.
- 0:28Hanan: Yeah.
- 0:28Hanan: Yeah.
- 0:29Hanan: Okay, would you?
- 0:29Lina: For the most part.
- 0:30Lina: I mean, I'm gonna be like, What'd you do this summer?
- 0:32Lina: Like, I don't, I already know what you did this summer.
- 0:33Lina: You want to tell them what you did this summer?
- 0:35Lina: Yes, I went to Palestine.
- 0:36Lina: Which is amazing.
- 0:37Lina: And I'm gonna call this episode traveling while Palestinian.
- 0:41Lina: Well, there's a lot more things that happened in this episode besides just traveling while Palestinian.
- 0:45Lina: I know, I'm joking, but it's just like my ordeal.
- 0:47Lina: I know.
- 0:48Lina: Okay, it's always as Palestinians, nothing ever is easy for us.
- 0:54Lina: Nothing.
- 0:54Lina: I mean, it started out here in Dulles in DC.
- 0:58Lina: Okay, but that's not you because you're Palestinian.
- 1:00Lina: That's just because of the airlines you've chosen.
- 1:01Lina: Okay.
- 1:01Lina: No, there was a story.
- 1:03Lina: No, no, it wasn't, it was, they just shut down the airport.
- 1:05Lina: Had nothing to do.
- 1:06Lina: Don't hate on the Italians, okay?
- 1:07Lina: I actually like them.
- 1:09Hanan: I know, but honestly, this what happened to you at the airport here has nothing to do with the Italians.
- 1:13Hanan: This had nothing to do.
- 1:14Lina: No, it was just a bad ordeal.
- 1:15Lina: I think we joked too much about me having a European summer.
- 1:18Lina: Yeah, we did.
- 1:19Hanan: Oh my god, it was so funny.
- 1:20Hanan: But the entire time before Lena left, I was like, well, you know, don't worry.
- 1:23Hanan: If they don't like, don't let you in, yeah.
- 1:25Lina: We can just have a European summer.
- 1:26Lina: Yeah, because it was 27 years since I was allowed to go through Tel Aviv, which is crazy, right?
- 1:31Lina: And we we normally go through Jordan.
- 1:34Lina: And Jordan, if you can believe it, the Jisir (Allenby Crossing) on Jordan is even a bigger mess than ever.
- 1:40Hanan: You know, honestly, the the the stories I hear about that in the videos that I saw and stuff on Instagram from the summer, I don't know why that is even a thing.
- 1:49Hanan: Like profiting off of people's misery.
- 1:50Hanan: Yeah, yeah, it's not.
- 1:51Hanan: I mean, people do it everywhere, but like genuinely profiting off of misery.
- 1:55Lina: So I was like, okay, so you know, we went through the process, I got the approval, whatever.
- 1:58Lina: That's not the issue.
- 1:58Lina: Here we get stuck for five hours on a plane, on a tarmac, not moving.
- 2:03Lina: And then I'm like, guys, you can't keep us here for more than four hours.
- 2:05Lina: This is against the law.
- 2:06Lina: And you know what she says to me?
- 2:08Lina: She's like, no, the door was not closed.
- 2:10Lina: And she's like, we start in her Italian accent.
- 2:14Lina: Okay, she was like, the time doesn't start until the door is actually the door's not closed.
- 2:19Lina: So and what was funnier about this whole thing is that one of my coworkers who I love, uh, she works with the English side.
- 2:27Lina: She was on that plane with her husband and kids, and literally we're two rows behind each other.
- 2:31Lina: And me and her kick into like, you know, journalist mode.
- 2:34Lina: Like, no, this is ridiculous.
- 2:35Lina: The storm passed.
- 2:36Lina: And I'm like texting my.
- 2:37Hanan: No, but it was, but honestly, I'm gonna tell you something that we were not at the airport.
- 2:41Hanan: Um, you know, we were watching a World Cup game.
- 2:43Hanan: This was July 4th.
- 2:44Hanan: Yeah, we were watching a World Cup game.
- 2:45Hanan: Yeah, we're gonna get into that because this was my most favorite World Cup ever.
- 2:50Hanan: But yes, um, it was the storm was crazy.
- 2:52Hanan: No, no, I understand.
- 2:53Hanan: Like we were inside, and just I mean, what passed by was fast.
- 2:57Hanan: I know, but that wasn't the beginning, not for five hours.
- 2:59Lina: I know that's okay.
- 2:59Lina: Come on, we're in Virginia.
- 3:00Lina: We know, we know that storms here happen all the time and they last like 15 minutes, half an hour, an hour, not five.
- 3:06Lina: The problem is it was a ground stop because it was the same day that Trump had his military aircraft all up in the sky, and they told us uh DCA is gonna be closed, but no one mentioned this aircraft.
- 3:19Lina: Okay, halas.
- 3:19Lina: Look, okay, okay, so we get out of dulles.
- 3:21Lina: Okay, but you get out of Dulles.
- 3:23Lina: My flight gets missed.
- 3:24Lina: That's fine.
- 3:24Lina: You missed your flight.
- 3:25Lina: Why are you hitting on me?
- 3:26Lina: Like, let me let me talk about this.
- 3:28Lina: It's like my therapy session.
- 3:29Lina: Okay, I was traumatized, yes.
- 3:32Lina: Okay, to speed things up, we finally get out of the yeah.
- 3:34Lina: The best part, the best part, you're such a hater.
- 3:37Lina: No, I listen to your shit all the time.
- 3:38Lina: We're gonna be here for 600 years.
- 3:41Lina: It's okay they miss us.
- 3:42Lina: No, we can't be 600 years.
- 3:44Lina: Okay, anyway.
- 3:44Lina: You know, you would have just let me just let me have my moment, and then anyways, you get out of dollars.
- 3:48Lina: We didn't get out of dollars.
- 3:49Lina: What happened is we finally, like, once they got the green light to leave, the best part about the Italians is that they didn't even bother giving us the uh, you know how they give you the security, not security, the safety.
- 3:59Lina: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:00Lina: They're like, everyone, sit up.
- 4:01Lina: They just gave us the green light.
- 4:03Lina: And like, they didn't even bother.
- 4:04Lina: And I was telling my friend, I'm like, did they not?
- 4:06Lina: She's like, no, but it's fine.
- 4:07Lina: Let's just let's just go.
- 4:08Lina: They're really ready to be.
- 4:09Lina: By that time, we I knew that I missed my my connecting flight because I was supposed to land in Rome, then go to Tel Aviv.
- 4:13Lina: That was gone.
- 4:14Lina: I get there.
- 4:15Lina: The Italian-I mean, it's been gone for a while.
- 4:17Hanan: She only had a 50-minute connection.
- 4:18Lina: So I'm thinking it's okay.
- 4:19Lina: They'll put me on the later one in the evening.
- 4:21Lina: I get that they're like, oh no, that's booked.
- 4:23Lina: Uh, you have to go to Frankfurt.
- 4:24Lina: I'm like, excuse me.
- 4:25Lina: Yeah.
- 4:25Lina: I don't want to go to Frankfurt.
- 4:26Lina: Look, no, you have to go to Frankfurt.
- 4:27Lina: And then I'm like guys, it was actually really awful.
- 4:29Lina: It was really bad.
- 4:30Lina: And then and then you're not even letting me have my moment.
- 4:32Lina: Let me have my moment.
- 4:33Lina: That's it.
- 4:33Lina: Okay.
- 4:33Lina: But the rest of the trip was fun.
- 4:35Hanan: I want you to focus on the rest of the time that you had.
- 4:38Hanan: And I want you to put a picture of yourself in your thobe.
- 4:40Hanan: It was an awesome thobe.
- 4:41Hanan: Okay, let me just go through the process.
- 4:43Lina: I don't like how I'm being disrespected right now.
- 4:45Lina: We're not being disrespected.
- 4:46Lina: I tell her there's only an hour between the I don't think it's we're gonna make it.
- 4:50Lina: She's like, no, you're gonna make it.
- 4:52Lina: You're fine.
- 4:52Lina: You know how Italians are.
- 4:53Lina: She's like, okay, I'm like, you're lying to me.
- 4:54Lina: Of course she does.
- 4:55Lina: And she's like, there's no other option.
- 4:56Lina: I should have just stayed and demanded to stay in Rome, to be honest with you.
- 4:59Lina: I don't know why I made a mistake.
- 5:02Hanan: Yeah, so I called Lena's husband to be like, did they make it?
- 5:04Hanan: He's like, they went to Frankfurt.
- 5:04Hanan: I was very confused as to where they went to Frankfurt.
- 5:07Lina: But she she made me feel like, oh, you're gonna get there tonight.
- 5:09Lina: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:09Lina: So like I fell for it.
- 5:10Lina: I get to Frankfurt, Frankfurt, worst airport ever.
- 5:12Lina: To make a long story short.
- 5:15Hanan: But I think what happened to you guys was no, it's not the worst airport ever.
- 5:17Lina: It is the worst airport ever.
- 5:18Lina: I hate that place.
- 5:19Lina: Anyway, we get there.
- 5:20Lina: The Israelis, you know, they have to check your stuff if you're going into Tel Aviv.
- 5:23Lina: They go through my, they were actually they like like like, you know, what's the word?
- 5:26Lina: Expedited the process for me.
- 5:28Lina: I go through Israeli security, and then once I get, because it had switched me to lift downstead of uh airways, okay?
- 5:34Lina: So this tall German dude is like, no, you can't get on the plane, the door has been closed.
- 5:39Lina: What?
- 5:40Lina: When he said this, I'm like, excuse me.
- 5:42Lina: And he's like, No, we were running.
- 5:44Lina: Look, we ran for like a mile to get to that damn gate.
- 5:46Lina: And then he's like, You can't.
- 5:48Lina: He's like, It's uh the the airplane door, the aircraft door is closed.
- 5:51Lina: You cannot, you can no longer get on there.
- 5:53Lina: So we go back downstairs to Lufthansa.
- 5:56Lina: Lufthansa is like, Oh, you gotta call the Italians.
- 5:58Lina: They have to reissue you the give me permission to reissue a ticket.
- 6:01Lina: Calling the Italians, they don't pick up.
- 6:02Lina: They're like, I don't know.
- 6:02Lina: No, no, no, no.
- 6:03Lina: They don't pick up.
- 6:04Lina: So this guy felt bad for me.
- 6:05Lina: He's like, Listen, let me call the desk here.
- 6:07Lina: He calls the desk here, he gets that guy to give him permission.
- 6:10Lina: He's like, Oh my god, there's one tonight.
- 6:11Lina: I'm like, great.
- 6:12Lina: He's like, You gotta go to Vienna.
- 6:14Lina: I'm like, nope, nope.
- 6:16Lina: I'm like, and then you came in my mind, I'm like, Hanan said it's gonna be a Europe.
- 6:19Lina: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:20Lina: I'm like, nope.
- 6:21Lina: So I'm like, I just thought she was gonna get stuck in Italy for a moment.
- 6:24Lina: I wish I wish it was Italy and me too.
- 6:27Lina: Like in retrospect, anyway.
- 6:29Hanan: You should have just in hindsight.
- 6:30Lina: I know.
- 6:30Lina: Should have just hindsight, not retrospect.
- 6:33Lina: But um, I told him, just put me on the first flight tomorrow.
- 6:36Lina: He did.
- 6:36Lina: We get there, but thinking, like looking back at it now, even Amjad was telling me, he's like, next time, he's like, they're obligated to put you on the next flight.
- 6:43Lina: He's like, just tell them, no, I don't want to go to like another airport.
- 6:46Speaker: I don't want to go to Frankfurt, I'll stay here.
- 6:48Lina: The kids were so upset that they had to spend one night in Frankfurt and not Italy.
- 6:51Lina: They're like, really?
- 6:51Lina: I I kind of would have been, I would have just stayed in Italy too.
- 6:54Lina: Yeah, we get there, alhamdulillah.
- 6:55Lina: Like, I was worried that, you know, because I haven't been there so long.
- 6:58Lina: The first thing they do though is they ask you, Do you have another passport besides an American?
- 7:02Lina: And then once you say yes, my Palestinian passport, they stop dealing with you as an American.
- 7:07Lina: You see, you did they just you're Palestinian.
- 7:09Lina: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:09Lina: He gives me the visa.
- 7:10Lina: It was pretty quick.
- 7:12Lina: We get there, and of course I found out two of my bags are just, I mean, I don't blame the bags.
- 7:16Lina: No, no, the bags went on.
- 7:17Lina: The bags went on a euro summer.
- 7:18Lina: Yeah, so that took another three days to get anywhere.
- 7:21Lina: But they didn't know.
- 7:21Lina: Alhamdulillah, right?
- 7:23Lina: Yes, and then like you know Imagine if they hadn't arrived.
- 7:25Lina: No, and then that they'll tell you, we'll deliver it to you.
- 7:27Lina: The problem is the the people delivering the stuff are Israelis and they don't come into the West Bank.
- 7:31Lina: So the guy called me, he's like, You're gonna have to have someone meet me somewhere here.
- 7:34Lina: And I'm like, okay.
- 7:36Lina: So yeah, it was just a whole ordeal.
- 7:38Lina: But then you made it home.
- 7:40Hanan: Alhamdulillah.
- 7:41Hanan: And I think that's the part that I like to because like, yes, it's exhausting, but it's like the minute you set foot in the house, you're like, finally.
- 7:49Hanan: Yes, yes, you're finally there.
- 7:51Lina: You see your the people you love, the people you care about, and just being there, you know, like and then the guy, the cab driver, um, was like, listen, even with all this, he's like, you still don't want to go through Jordan.
- 8:00Lina: Yeah, he's like trust me.
- 8:02Hanan: Honestly, I saw some stuff on social media that was very I mean, I don't know.
- 8:05Hanan: I've never been through when I when I went to Palestine, I went through Tel Aviv, like I went through the airport normally.
- 8:11Hanan: I but the stories I hear, and then the videos that I saw this summer, just I'm not talking about Jordan as a whole, I'm just talking about the Jiser experience, just that bridge going, it's nuts, it's crazy, and it's like hours and hours.
- 8:22Hanan: And if you like, yeah, no, it's uh it's oh I gotta tell you on the way back though.
- 8:26Lina: This is the last travel stuff, and then we'll get to the fun stuff.
- 8:29Lina: But I have to, I have to, I was so frustrated.
- 8:31Lina: Okay, so we we we're coming back, and I went there five hours before thinking, okay, I'm gonna be good.
- 8:37Lina: Yeah, okay.
- 8:37Lina: No, they took forever.
- 8:40Lina: There's so many different security things you have to do, and they're all so freaking rude.
- 8:45Lina: I'm like, where do we stand?
- 8:47Lina: Are you surprised?
- 8:47Lina: I'm not surprised, but I'm like, the the level of like rudeness was just beyond, right?
- 8:52Lina: And we're speaking in English, but of course they can tell we're Palestinian, right?
- 8:55Lina: So I was like asking the lady, I was like, so where do we stand?
- 8:58Lina: Because we had to go through another security, and then she's like, over there.
- 9:01Lina: And I'm like, where over there?
- 9:02Lina: She's like, over there, you know, in her fucking Israeli accent.
- 9:05Lina: Okay.
- 9:05Lina: I'm like, all right.
- 9:06Lina: So I go stand in line.
- 9:07Lina: So obnoxious.
- 9:10Lina: Okay, so I go and I'm standing, and the line took like 30 minutes.
- 9:14Lina: We finally get to the front of the line.
- 9:15Lina: The guy's like, Oh, you can't be in this line.
- 9:17Lina: I'm like, why not?
- 9:18Lina: Mind you, there's like around an hour left to the to the for the flight to leave.
- 9:21Lina: I would have been like it, I it would have been like.
- 9:23Lina: And then he he was like, he was at least helpful.
- 9:26Lina: He gave me some information.
- 9:27Lina: He was like, No, no, no, you're Palestinian, you can't be in this line.
- 9:31Lina: He's like, You need extra security.
- 9:33Lina: Okay, but I just need to leave.
- 9:35Lina: I want to leave.
- 9:36Lina: So he's like, you gotta go all the way over there.
- 9:38Lina: And I'm like, I have to stand in the line again.
- 9:40Lina: He's like, Yep.
- 9:40Lina: I'm like, dude, I have an hour.
- 9:42Lina: And he's like, I don't know what to tell you, but you can't, you have extra security.
- 9:45Lina: You you need to go through extra security.
- 9:47Lina: You cannot be in this line.
- 9:48Lina: Okay.
- 9:48Lina: So I'm trying to get out of the line with the kids.
- 9:51Lina: Um saying, excuse me, like they don't understand the concept of the I literally would have taken off all my clothes, stripped down to my undoor in the middle of the airport and been like, Are you good?
- 10:00Hanan: Can I can I go?
- 10:00Hanan: Can I get on my flight?
- 10:01Hanan: Are we good?
- 10:02Lina: It was so weird.
- 10:03Lina: So we were going and they're so rude.
- 10:04Lina: They don't move, they don't move.
- 10:05Lina: They're just they think they own the world.
- 10:07Lina: Anyway, so we finally get to the line.
- 10:08Lina: There's 10 people ahead of me.
- 10:10Lina: 10 people who are like from Spain, from like all sorts of these are the people that need extra security.
- 10:15Lina: Okay, I'm like, guys, please can I skip the line?
- 10:18Lina: They're like, Yeah, of course.
- 10:20Lina: Like, we have more time.
- 10:20Lina: Like, when I showed them my my boarding pack, they were all so nice, and they're like, please go ahead.
- 10:24Lina: They probably took my carry-on bags and like uh the kids' backpacks in through the machine maybe three times.
- 10:31Lina: We spent 25 minutes going in and out, in and out, and picking through every single piece.
- 10:38Lina: And I'm like, guys, my flight, my flight.
- 10:39Lina: And then this guy he calls, he's like, they're not boarding yet.
- 10:42Lina: And I'm like, okay, but like I'm like, I can't trust you.
- 10:45Lina: I'm like, I can't trust you.
- 10:47Lina: You're saying they're not boarding, I can't trust you.
- 10:48Lina: Anyway, we finally get out of there.
- 10:50Lina: We're running again.
- 10:51Lina: Like my entire trip in the airport can consisted of running, and I came to the realization I need to get in shape.
- 10:56Lina: Yeah, at least you got your steps in.
- 10:58Lina: Dude, it was horrible.
- 10:59Lina: So we're running, and then there's a machine there, you gotta put your passports.
- 11:02Lina: I put my American, doesn't work.
- 11:03Lina: I put my Palestinian, it doesn't work.
- 11:05Lina: Says see attendant.
- 11:06Lina: Mind you, at that point, we have 30 minutes left.
- 11:08Lina: Until your flight either 25 or 30 minutes.
- 11:11Lina: Yes.
- 11:12Lina: Not boards, but takes off.
- 11:13Lina: It already started boarding.
- 11:14Lina: So I'm going, I go to the guy, I'm like, can I, mind you, these are all Israelis, okay?
- 11:18Lina: Just so we're we keep things in perspective here.
- 11:21Lina: I was like, listen, I thought I could get away with like I did with the other, but the other people weren't Israelis.
- 11:24Lina: They were like, you know, nice people.
- 11:26Lina: Anyway, he's like, I can't help you.
- 11:28Lina: He's like, you gotta wait in line like everybody else.
- 11:30Lina: He was so obnoxious about it.
- 11:32Lina: Alhamdulillah, that line only took seven minutes.
- 11:34Lina: I remember these details because like I was like so stressed.
- 11:37Lina: He finally gives us our passports, gives us a ticket that we can go, and now we start running again.
- 11:42Lina: Uh Badi's way ahead of us.
- 11:44Lina: He's carrying his guitar and running with his guitar.
- 11:46Lina: I mean, some you're just you gotta go.
- 11:48Lina: At one point, halfway through, I just stopped running.
- 11:50Lina: I'm like, I can't.
- 11:51Lina: I'm like, I don't, I'm not, I haven't been, I don't run, guys.
- 11:54Lina: But it's not just that.
- 11:55Hanan: Sometimes you're just like, I give up.
- 11:56Hanan: Like, I'm gonna cry.
- 11:57Lina: No, no, no, I give up.
- 11:58Lina: Like, and I just stood with her because she's like, okay.
- 12:00Lina: And then I'm like looking.
- 12:01Lina: I remember it's E6.
- 12:02Lina: I look and I see 10 people still boarding.
- 12:05Lina: I'm like, okay, I can like slow down a little bit.
- 12:07Lina: We finally get on a plane, and I'm like, Alhamdulillah, okay, khalas.
- 12:11Hanan: Then you fly back through Rome.
- 12:12Lina: Yes.
- 12:12Lina: Then we land in Rome.
- 12:14Lina: This is this is the one thing I gotta tell you because, like, you know, all that pent-up aggression with how they treat you at the airport like shit, it came all out at once.
- 12:22Lina: So we land, we land, the plane lands in uh in Rome, and this one guy, he's sitting to the right of me, Israeli settler, mind you, to the right of me, gets up before the plane stops moving.
- 12:32Lina: You know, he's one of those people that wants to get his bag.
- 12:35Lina: You're like, what's happening?
- 12:37Lina: Exactly.
- 12:37Lina: The Italian uh flight attendant comes.
- 12:40Lina: She's like, sir, the plane has not fully stopped.
- 12:43Lina: Sit down, and like everyone's looking at him.
- 12:45Lina: So he sits down.
- 12:46Lina: Then finally we get to the gate, and this motherfucker ends up in front of me.
- 12:50Lina: I'm like, what?
- 12:51Lina: You're you're sitting behind me.
- 12:52Lina: Like, how I'm like, whatever, I'm not gonna get into it.
- 12:55Lina: Uh I'm gonna go get the bags because they weren't right on top, they were like one row behind me.
- 13:00Hanan: Yeah, it's fine.
- 13:00Lina: So I'm trying to get my bags, I'm trying to give them to Badi.
- 13:02Lina: I'm like, so I pick one.
- 13:04Lina: I don't want to hit him.
- 13:04Lina: So I'm like, excuse me.
- 13:05Lina: He's literally standing in front of me.
- 13:06Lina: I'm like, excuse me, excuse me, excuse me.
- 13:08Lina: And then he turns around and he has the nerve to be rude to me.
- 13:11Lina: He's like, "excuse me, excuse me!" He's like mocking me.
- 13:14Lina: He's like, Oh, you're so loud.
- 13:16Lina: I'm like, excuse me.
- 13:18Lina: Like at that point, everything just came out, okay?
- 13:20Lina: I was like, excuse me.
- 13:21Lina: I'm like, at least I'm nice enough to say excuse me.
- 13:24Lina: I'm like, you're so rude.
- 13:25Lina: I'm like, you got up.
- 13:26Lina: I'm like, how are you standing in front of me when you sit behind me?
- 13:30Lina: And I was like, get out of my way.
- 13:32Lina: You're not in Israel anymore.
- 13:34Lina: Okay.
- 13:34Lina: I just said, and then half the plane because half of them are Israelis were like "ohh!!" And I'm like, eat shit! I was.
- 13:40Lina: No, no, no.
- 13:43Lina: I'm like, because we landed in Italy, I'm like, fuck these guys.
- 13:46Lina: And then like everything, you know, like it's so frustrating because when you're there, you know one word, and then they're gonna either arrest your ass.
- 13:52Lina: And I have kids with me, and I'm not messing with that, okay?
- 13:55Lina: So once we landed in Europe, I'm like, and then when I said that, he just he was like shocked.
- 13:59Lina: I'm like, get out of my way.
- 14:00Lina: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:00Lina: I'm like, you're not in Israel, get out of my way.
- 14:02Lina: I'm like, this privilege and this sense of entitlement that you people have is beyond me.
- 14:07Lina: I can't.
- 14:08Lina: And then after we got on the plane out of the plane, I was telling the kids, I'm like, wow, you guy s didn't like because my kids are always like, Mama, you gotta calm down.
- 14:13Lina: Y eah.
- 14:14Lina: So I was telling her...
- 14:16Lina: And Raya's like, no, dude, that was totally warranted.
- 14:18Lina: Yeah.
- 14:18Lina: And she's like, I'm so glad you said something because he's so annoying.
- 14:21Lina: I'm like, exactly.
- 14:21Lina: Anyway, tell me about your summer.
- 14:23Lina: I had to say that.
- 14:24Lina: Well, was no, you told us about your travel story.
- 14:27Hanan: No, no, but I'm like thinking about it.
- 14:28Lina: I 'm like documenting, I'm like, I'm like not documenting, I'm like monopolizing the conversation.
- 14:32Lina: No, but we want to know what happened.
- 14:35Lina: No, we we got there, alhamdulillah, it was good.
- 14:37Lina: I got to see my mom.
- 14:39Lina: She's there for the summer, and then my nephew's wedding.
- 14:41Lina: See, that's what I'm saying.
- 14:42Lina: That's what you wanted, right?
- 14:44Hanan: Yeah, because like honestly, it's like, yes, everybody has horrific travel stories, even if you're not Palestinian, by the way.
- 14:49Hanan: That is true.
- 14:50Hanan: So I like the whole point is like you made it.
- 14:52Hanan: Think about think about the the the and this is like me, you know, guys, therapy is very helpful.
- 14:58Hanan: Shifting your mindset around, you know, your cup being half full rather than all of the negative experiences that you have.
- 15:03Hanan: Yes, your travel experience was crappy, but people have these travel experiences that are crappy, even if you're not Palestinian, right?
- 15:09Hanan: But think about it like this with everything that happened this year, you got to go home.
- 15:13Hanan: Yes, Alhamdulillah.
- 15:14Hanan: You got to take your kids home.
- 15:15Lina: Do you know how many people didn't get to do that?
- 15:17Lina: I know.
- 15:18Lina: No, Alhamdulillah, it was great.
- 15:19Hanan: And then shout out Susan, who had to cancel her trip to Lebanon.
- 15:21Lina: Oh, haram, she had to.
- 15:22Lina: Yeah, because the the house where she was going to stay was bombed.
- 15:26Hanan: That's crazy.
- 15:27Hanan: So it's like it's it's there's we're we're in a good place in Alhamdulillah.
- 15:31Hanan: That's why I was like, okay, great.
- 15:32Hanan: Yes, you had a horrific travel story.
- 15:34Lina: It was, yeah, the tri the traveling, but you know, once you get there, subhanAllah Khalas, like you, you, you're there, you're with family, you know.
- 15:40Lina: Uh the wedding was like less than a week after we got there.
- 15:43Lina: So everyone was busy like getting ready for that.
- 15:45Lina: Yeah.
- 15:46Hanan: Um we all this is insert picture of you in the thobe.
- 15:49Lina: Insert picture?
- 15:50Lina: Yeah.
- 15:50Lina: Okay.
- 15:51Lina: So yeah, we all had matching thobes, which I think was which was so cute.
- 15:55Lina: Okay.
- 15:55Lina: And then, like, uh uh, no, it was great.
- 15:58Lina: It was lovely.
- 15:59Lina: I mean, Abdo, my nephew, he as soon as I got it, he's like, Anto, you gotta give me a song.
- 16:04Lina: I'm like, song for what, man?
- 16:05Lina: And he's like, and now like they choreograph everything, everything.
- 16:08Lina: And he's like, Well, there's a song, there's a dance where you and I dance, you mean the bride and you, and I'm like, okay, and he's like, This is the song I have picked for you.
- 16:15Lina: I'm like, uh-uh.
- 16:15Lina: I'm like, I am not dancing to that song.
- 16:18Lina: I'm like, ew, no.
- 16:19Lina: I'm like, I want a falahi song.
- 16:21Lina: Like, I want to, like, I want a falahi Palestinian song, right?
- 16:24Lina: He tried.
- 16:25Lina: Good.
- 16:25Lina: And he's like, well, listen, he's like, you have till tomorrow.
- 16:28Hanan: He's like, if not, you're dancing the side.
- 16:31Lina: Yeah, but then it took me like another three days, and he was like getting so frustrated.
- 16:34Lina: He's like, You gotta give me the song, and then I find it.
- 16:36Lina: I mean, think about how privileged you are that he asked you.
- 16:39Hanan: That's true.
- 16:40Hanan: Like, that is a privilege, you know, that he asked you for one time.
- 16:44Hanan: It was nice, it was nice to pick a song.
- 16:47Lina: Yes, it was nice, and I'll uh I'll put some pictures.
- 16:51Lina: Uh, like we were like me, my mom, my sister-in-law, my niece, and then uh Raya, my daughter.
- 16:56Lina: We all had the same uh matching.
- 16:57Lina: You saw the picture.
- 16:58Lina: Yeah, it's really cute.
- 16:59Lina: Yeah, it was nice.
- 17:00Lina: Um, but it was it was, you know, there's a lot to do.
- 17:06Lina: I just forgot.
- 17:06Lina: It's been a while since I went to a wedding where I'm actually related to the person.
- 17:09Lina: There's a lot to start.
- 17:10Lina: There's a lot of stuff you gotta take care of.
- 17:12Lina: No, it's but it's nice.
- 17:13Lina: No, but alhamdulillah.
- 17:14Lina: But that was your main reason for going, right?
- 17:16Lina: Well, to be with my mom mostly.
- 17:18Lina: And um, because you know, she like I wasn't gonna see her.
- 17:20Lina: If I didn't go there, then the summertime, it's over, you know, because I'm gonna be busy with work.
- 17:24Lina: But that's but the wedding, yes.
- 17:26Lina: Yeah, okay.
- 17:27Lina: Um, it was a lot of fun.
- 17:29Lina: We had fun.
- 17:29Lina: Alhamdulillah, the kids loved the time there, you know, which is important.
- 17:32Lina: And you know, they got to see um Amjad's family, like we'd go there every day.
- 17:36Lina: If I couldn't make it, they'd go, you know.
- 17:38Hanan: Which I think is amazing.
- 17:39Lina: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:40Lina: So they just they loved it.
- 17:41Lina: They loved it.
- 17:42Lina: Like every like they're like, Can we come every year?
- 17:43Lina: I'm like, we'll see.
- 17:44Lina: Yeah, I mean, we're barely creation.
- 17:46Hanan: I mean, look, I think it's like, and that's what I mean.
- 17:48Hanan: Like, you gotta focus on the fact that, like, despite how difficult it was very difficult.
- 17:52Hanan: I'm not gonna lie.
- 17:53Hanan: You know what I mean?
- 17:54Lina: It is, but think about it like this the No, also not just not the travel part, just like the stressing, is something gonna happen?
- 17:59Lina: Yeah, are they gonna start bombing again?
- 18:01Hanan: Maho, what that's you know, like and that's what I mean.
- 18:03Hanan: Like, despite everything, the like that's why I said like the travel, the missing the flight is like whatever.
- 18:07Hanan: No, no, no.
- 18:08Hanan: The concern is But like it's the am I gonna actually be able to make it through the airport intelligence.
- 18:13Lina: And then I took your advice, and then I had another friend there who works with the embassy.
- 18:17Lina: She's like, girl, you need to get on the State Department stuff just in case, because like you know, some things were happening.
- 18:22Lina: I'm like, oh my god, is this gonna like blow up all over again?
- 18:24Hanan: So that's why it was like, yeah.
- 18:25Hanan: But that's my thing always.
- 18:28Hanan: It's like you have to look at the positive experiences that came out of everything, even from the negative experiences.
- 18:34Hanan: So I think it was like amazing that you know that you had that.
- 18:38Lina: Like, no, alhamdulillah.
- 18:39Lina: And you know, I was very responsible.
- 18:40Lina: Like, I because I promised Amjad, I was like, you know, if it's not necessary, I'm not gonna go to a certain place.
- 18:45Lina: Like, yeah, the problem is like once once you get out of like Al-Bireh and Ramallah, yeah, that's where all of the issues are happening.
- 18:52Hanan: But it's not just once you get out of there, it's my my like I like, and obviously, like just in watching the news, you have like these pockets of things that are happening.
- 19:00Hanan: The pro and it's very, very intentional.
- 19:02Hanan: This is not by yeah, it's by design that it's where people actually travel that they're able to meet each other.
- 19:09Hanan: This is where the area, this is what I've done.
- 19:10Lina: See, when I say even if you look like like there were moments, like there were days we we didn't leave, but these guys still came in, like Israelis.
- 19:16Hanan: But I feel like the the what I mean by intentional is like they want to cut towns off from us.
- 19:20Hanan: Oh, for sure, for sure.
- 19:21Hanan: But like the problems happen when you're traveling in between two towns on purpose.
- 19:25Hanan: Like they do this on purpose.
- 19:27Lina: 100%.
- 19:27Lina: Like last time we went, I took them to Nablus, I took them took all over the house.
- 19:30Lina: You could not do that.
- 19:30Lina: I did not do that because I didn't want to risk it because these guys will throw rocks at the car, they'll stop the car, they'll burn the car.
- 19:36Lina: I mean, attacking.
- 19:38Hanan: I mean, honestly, there's been a lot of news of um I mean Israeli settlers, like it's just attacking.
- 19:43Lina: Yeah, and like trying to burn cars and mosques and houses.
- 19:46Lina: And I'm just like, no, if I don't need to go, I'm not gonna the only other the only other place I went was to Al-Quds, Jerusalem.
- 19:53Lina: And even with my visa, the first time I tried going in, they were like, no, you can't.
- 19:57Lina: You're you're from the West Bank.
- 19:59Lina: And I'm like, but I have a visa and I have an American passport.
- 20:01Lina: They're like basically looking at me like no girlby, you know.
- 20:04Lina: So then we're we we were like, okay, whatever.
- 20:06Lina: We didn't argue too much.
- 20:07Lina: We went to another entrance, and then we had to talk our way through with this guy who spoke perfect Arabic, but he's uh he's um, I think he's Druze.
- 20:15Lina: That's why his Arabic was really good.
- 20:17Lina: And so we started talking to him and he's like, Yeah, you guys need to go home.
- 20:20Lina: I'm like, dude, come on, man.
- 20:21Lina: Like, just like you let us in.
- 20:23Lina: Just let us in, let us in.
- 20:24Lina: And like we we he took uh my sister-in-law's passport and she was freaking out.
- 20:28Lina: He's like, No, you'll have it when you come.
- 20:29Lina: Like, I'm like, what do you think we're gonna do?
- 20:31Lina: We're just gonna go in and pray.
- 20:32Lina: Okay, but I'm like, you know what, let's not argue because I was like, I just wanted to pray.
- 20:35Lina: I wanted to go because I can't go.
- 20:37Lina: Um, like so you just have to put up with like unfortunately you do not have to be.
- 20:41Lina: You just have to put up with it, and you know, because like my main goal was to go to Al-Aqsa to pray, and then I'm like, halas, like I'm gonna get what I want, and then I'm gonna leave.
- 20:49Lina: Okay, literally, that was the only place I went outside of Al-Bireh.
- 20:52Lina: Yeah, which is because I I just can't, like, I wanted to take the kids.
- 20:56Lina: The kids were happy to stay with family and hanging out with family and just doing stuff there, but like every day, every day was a thing.
- 21:02Lina: Like the the what do you call it?
- 21:06Lina: Uh, checkpoints, yeah and just like messing with people.
- 21:09Lina: It was just Alhamdulillah, though, the wedding was great.
- 21:12Lina: That's great.
- 21:13Lina: We had great uh fun time with family, and that's all that matters.
- 21:16Lina: And they can't rain on our parade, fuck them.
- 21:19Hanan: Yeah, which is good, which is good.
- 21:20Hanan: But that's what I'm saying.
- 21:21Hanan: Like, you at least had some positive experience.
- 21:23Hanan: No, alhamdulillah.
- 21:24Hanan: Alhamdulillah, we made it, we made it, like you said.
- 21:26Lina: A lot of people, you know, exactly.
- 21:28Hanan: A lot of people did not make it.
- 21:29Lina: And the other thing is because like I said, they would come in sometimes.
- 21:31Lina: So I had to explain to my kids that they would go out with their friends to Ramallah, and I was like having a talk.
- 21:36Lina: I'm like, if you see one of these like jeeps coming in, like I like I'm like, and I had to explain to them what to do.
- 21:42Lina: I'm like, you go to the first store or wherever the hell you're and you stay inside and you don't leave until it's like it's crazy.
- 21:48Lina: Lock in and you know, my kids, they're not they're not used to this stuff, right?
- 21:53Lina: So you have to like explain to them, hey, and I was even like worried, even though it's like Ramallah, like I wasn't really thrilled to let them.
- 21:59Lina: Go with their friends on their own.
- 22:01Lina: Because you know, like Imad's son and um Raya's friend meet me, right?
- 22:06Lina: And I'm just like, uh, like they're all Arab Americans.
- 22:09Hanan: I'm like, I don't know how it's like, but I also think it's like a it's a good, it's a good experience for them too.
- 22:13Hanan: When I say good, I mean it's the um good is not the right word.
- 22:17Hanan: It's a very um, it's a very like real and a humbling experience to have.
- 22:23Hanan: Um and it's like real world.
- 22:26Hanan: Here's this is real world.
- 22:27Hanan: Here's what's actually.
- 22:27Lina: Yeah, but you gotta explain to them, hey, in this situation, this is what you gotta do because it is scary, you know.
- 22:32Lina: But that's what I mean.
- 22:33Hanan: Like it's still it's a real world experience.
- 22:35Hanan: So yeah, but I'm glad you guys had a nice time.
- 22:37Lina: See, despite all of the crazy travel stuff, you came in here.
- 22:39Lina: All hikes.
- 22:40Lina: No, but now I need a vacation from the vacation.
- 22:44Hanan: I mean, it's been a while since you've been back.
- 22:45Hanan: You'd be fine.
- 22:46Lina: You'll be fine.
- 22:47Lina: So, what did you do in your on your vacation?
- 22:48Lina: I didn't well.
- 22:49Lina: You didn't go anywhere.
- 22:50Lina: You stayed.
- 22:51Hanan: I went to Florida for like a week with my with my with my with my family, my sister and her family, and like two of our other friends and their families.
- 22:57Hanan: Great time.
- 22:58Hanan: Then I came back and it was like full swing.
- 23:00Hanan: Well, the summer started off with full full swing World Cup season.
- 23:03Hanan: Yes.
- 23:04Hanan: And it was phenomenal because you know, Egypt was in the World Cup, like this World Cup, and it was the best run.
- 23:12Hanan: I think I just I died.
- 23:15Hanan: I died, I died and lived, and it was such a fun experience.
- 23:19Hanan: And I think it's I don't know, I think maybe because this World Cup, there were more countries than, you know, there was like I think it was usually 30.
- 23:27Hanan: This year it was like 48 or something like that, but it was just such a fun experience.
- 23:31Hanan: And like my sister and I ended up attending ended up attending in person the Egypt versus Argentina game in Atlanta, and it was just I mean, look, it was was it my favorite ending?
- 23:44Hanan: No, because we got robbed.
- 23:45Hanan: You guys definitely got robbed.
- 23:46Hanan: But it was the experience of a lifetime.
- 23:48Hanan: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:48Hanan: Like it was just, you don't understand, like everything.
- 23:51Hanan: We and it was awesome.
- 23:52Hanan: Like her and I flew that morning out of uh out of DC and into Atlanta and flew back that night.
- 23:57Hanan: Oh, wow.
- 23:58Hanan: Like it was just one day, but it was such a great time.
- 24:00Hanan: Literally the entirety of the summer, every single person I knew was just like, Zei, call like it was just so much fun.
- 24:10Lina: Yeah, but it was so upsetting how they did them dirty.
- 24:12Hanan: I know, but you know, honestly, like it was such a great, I think for every person, like like look I look at my kids, especially.
- 24:18Hanan: My kids got to go along with one of my nephews and my husband to uh to Dallas to watch Egypt versus Australia, and Egypt won that game.
- 24:27Hanan: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:27Hanan: And so they got to be part of a mosh pit.
- 24:29Hanan: It was like a 2000 person mosh pit.
- 24:31Hanan: It was just they had such a great time.
- 24:33Hanan: It's a great experience.
- 24:34Hanan: And I think it was just a funny experience to be like Egyptian in this, you know, in this situation.
- 24:39Lina: So the idea But you don't have to be Egyptian because we were all rooting for Egypt.
- 24:41Lina: My God.
- 24:42Hanan: We were all like the whole world was.
- 24:43Hanan: I mean, like the whole Arab world anyway.
- 24:44Hanan: I know.
- 24:44Hanan: No, I mean everybody, but honestly, like like it was just so it was so there was one one of the games I we were watching at a like a at a local cafe, and it was me and my brother and his wife and a couple of my friends and my sister and her husband, and we were just watching this game and you will watching my sister like cheer on this team, she was in full tears after the penalty kicks.
- 25:10Hanan: And I'm like looking at all of us, and I'm like, who would have thought the day would come when any of us would care that much?
- 25:17Hanan: No, because about a game.
- 25:18Lina: Whether it was the uh Egyptian team or the Moroccan team, I mean, they made it like that.
- 25:22Hanan: But it's not just about me.
- 25:23Hanan: I really think it's just like you know what, you know what it is?
- 25:26Hanan: It's like when you really pause and think about it, you're like, we spend all of these years somebody telling us like this game is not for people who look like us.
- 25:34Hanan: You know what I mean?
- 25:35Hanan: Like, and it was just when like I was even like at some point, my I was on the cheering on like you know, Capo Verde.
- 25:42Hanan: And I'm like, Yeah, who would have thought?
- 25:44Lina: Yeah, and you just want you want the underdog to win so badly, and you know, it was just I mean, we were all rooting for Spain because I did not want Argentina too.
- 25:52Hanan: I think it was just I think we were on the drama that came with this World Cup, the drama.
- 25:56Hanan: But I honestly like it was such a great experience, and I was so happy that we actually got to be there physically.
- 26:02Hanan: No, that's it.
- 26:03Hanan: It was so much fun to just go and experience, and a lot of our friends did the same thing, and I think just being in the like being able to attend a game, like first of all, it's like a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
- 26:14Hanan: That's true, but in addition to that, cheering on like the your team, you know, being like, yes, this is phenomenal.
- 26:20Hanan: It was just and also with other people, with other people with everything.
- 26:23Hanan: Oh my god, it was so much fun.
- 26:25Hanan: Having my kids like go there in their jerseys and having a great time, and my nephew, everybody, and it was funny because my um, you know, we were watching all the games, and so first, you know, you do the group, you go to, you know, there's a group rounds or whatever, and then um he my husband looks at me and he goes, If Egypt makes it to the round of 32, I really want to go.
- 26:46Lina: Yeah.
- 26:46Lina: I was like, I mean, they definitely made it way past the city.
- 26:48Hanan: I was like, okay, absolutely.
- 26:50Lina: Yeah, so yeah, you gotta be supportive and then and then 100%.
- 26:53Hanan: And then as soon as they they were so hyped out of that, after that Australia and Egypt game, yeah, that like my sister and I, I look at my I really want to go.
- 27:03Hanan: Yeah, I really want to go.
- 27:04Hanan: And she goes, and she goes, What about and she cracks me up because she goes, I'm not paying all that money.
- 27:09Hanan: I was like, I got money, girl, let's go.
- 27:10Hanan: But it was so just it was it was like the best experience.
- 27:15Hanan: I was so happy that it was me and my sister who got to do it together.
- 27:18Hanan: That's we just had a fun time.
- 27:19Hanan: We had such a great time.
- 27:20Hanan: Yeah, I mean, were the Argentinian fans my favorite?
- 27:24Hanan: No, no, no, they were not.
- 27:26Hanan: No, they were misbehaving.
- 27:28Lina: Yeah, I'm so I was so over them.
- 27:29Lina: I'm just like, get out of here.
- 27:31Lina: Like, I'm just like, I wanted Spain for more than one reason to win, but like what like the whole Egyptian thing, I'm sorry.
- 27:37Hanan: We really got robbed, and people were like, you need to stop crying about it.
- 27:39Hanan: I'm like, and I'm gonna cry about it for the rest of time.
- 27:41Lina: No, because it was so obvious.
- 27:42Hanan: Literally, I'm gonna cry about it for the rest of time.
- 27:44Lina: It was so obvious, and that's the other thing.
- 27:45Lina: It's like these even this institution is freaking corrupt.
- 27:47Lina: I'm just like, come on.
- 27:48Lina: I think that's the part that makes it really sense for us that you're like, come on, man.
- 27:54Hanan: I know, right?
- 27:55Hanan: It's like this is supposed to be fun, and then you realize you're like, no, it's not even this is not even fun.
- 27:59Hanan: This is not even fun because everything is a transaction, everything is a business, but it was very like you're like it kind of sucked the joy out of the whole thing a little bit.
- 28:08Hanan: But I'm not gonna say that it wasn't a great time.
- 28:10Hanan: It was still a great time.
- 28:11Hanan: It was just, and I think experiencing it, like you said, with other people.
- 28:15Lina: Oh my god, that's what makes it more fun.
- 28:17Hanan: In watching, for example, like what was that?
- 28:21Hanan: Oh, it was Lena's watch.
- 28:23Hanan: Oh Lina's watch was talking to us.
- 28:25Lina: See, this is what happens, yeah.
- 28:26Hanan: Yeah, Lina's watch was talking to us.
- 28:27Hanan: But yeah, but in general, it was like it was such a great time.
- 28:29Hanan: I loved it.
- 28:30Hanan: No, that's and then other than that, we just kind of lazy around town, and you know, people are like, aren't you going anywhere else?
- 28:35Hanan: I was like, I've really spent all my money in the world cup.
- 28:37Hanan: Literally.
- 28:38Lina: Uh but you're gonna try to be doing anything for the winner.
- 28:41Hanan: Maybe.
- 28:42Hanan: I don't know.
- 28:42Hanan: I haven't I haven't gotten that far.
- 28:44Hanan: It's too soon.
- 28:44Hanan: I'm just glad that we're back and that we're doing this again.
- 28:48Hanan: Yeah, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna be on your ass.
- 28:50Hanan: I know, it's fine.
- 28:51Hanan: It's not like you you make it seem like it's my fault.
- 28:54Hanan: You see this bullshit?
- 28:55Hanan: It makes it seem like it's just me by myself.
- 28:58Hanan: She's busy.
- 28:59Lina: It's not that.
- 29:00Lina: It's not it's not just busy, it's just like we gotta like we gotta lock in, honey.
- 29:04Lina: We you see, like I am the one that's not invested.
- 29:07Lina: Both of us, both of us, we gotta like lock in.
- 29:09Lina: Yeah, it's gotta be a wee situation because I feel very attacked.
- 29:11Lina: And you're not, you're fine, you'll be fine.
- 29:13Lina: I it's okay.
- 29:14Hanan: Unnecessarily, might I add.
- 29:15Lina: Did you taste the olive oil?
- 29:17Hanan: I did, it was delicious.
- 29:17Hanan: Okay, good.
- 29:19Lina: Because it's from the past year as well.
- 29:20Lina: Yeah, yeah, no, it's perfect.
- 29:21Hanan: It's perfect.
- 29:21Hanan: And Lina was like, put it in a glass bottle.
- 29:23Hanan: I'm like, gonna, keep it in this bottle.
- 29:24Hanan: I I went and bought some glass bottles because I'm like, I wouldn't.
- 29:28Lina: The thing is, like, I have like a few.
- 29:29Hanan: I keep it next to my stove and I use it all the time.
- 29:32Hanan: So it's good.
- 29:32Lina: I'm gonna run through it and it'll be done by like two weeks from now.
- 29:35Lina: That's different because like I know there's I have some that I I'm not gonna use right now, so that's why I did that.
- 29:40Hanan: Because you gotta like, you know, yeah, no, I get it away.
- 29:42Lina: Like, I get it.
- 29:43Hanan: But yeah, but I'm excited that we're back, guys.
- 29:45Hanan: We have lots of fun content planned.
- 29:47Hanan: We do, yeah.
- 29:50Lina: I'm just I'm just it's okay.
- 29:52Hanan: It's okay, it's funny.
- 29:53Hanan: They'll they'll understand.
- 29:54Hanan: Go ahead.
- 29:55Hanan: I have some fun content planned.
- 29:57Hanan: Clearly, Lina doesn't do anything for the show.
- 29:59Hanan: Straight up, straight up.
- 30:03Hanan: No, no, no.
- 30:05Hanan: But no, we do have lots of fun things that Lena and I want to talk about.
- 30:08Hanan: I have some topics that I definitely want to discuss.
- 30:10Hanan: Inshallah.
- 30:11Hanan: It's been uh many months of me being in therapy, so I have lots of eye-opening and enlightening things that I want to share.
- 30:16Hanan: How is that going?
- 30:17Hanan: It's going really well, actually.
- 30:18Hanan: Yeah, and it's funny because you know, I always thought that I'd like to have a therapist that was like of my people, but she's like nothing like me at all.
- 30:26Hanan: But we really enjoy she Egyptian?
- 30:28Hanan: No.
- 30:28Hanan: Oh, okay.
- 30:29Hanan: No, okay.
- 30:31Lina: But she's awesome.
- 30:31Lina: Well, I think it depends on what you're what you're um what you're discussing too.
- 30:36Lina: I think I think what you're dealing with.
- 30:37Hanan: You know what's funny?
- 30:38Hanan: It's like not even like the I so I don't really have her like she's not like a grief therapist.
- 30:42Hanan: She's much more like, you know, like a therapist than life.
- 30:45Hanan: And you do learn a lot about yourself in therapy, I think.
- 30:49Hanan: And it makes you realize that like not everybody is prepared to well it well, one look, look, it's not, it's not for everyone.
- 30:57Hanan: I get it.
- 30:58Hanan: I 100%.
- 30:58Hanan: And people who are like, you need to be in therapy.
- 31:00Hanan: No, if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you.
- 31:02Hanan: Let me not be a pusher.
- 31:04Hanan: At the same time, though, I have found my experience to be, you know, enlightening.
- 31:09Hanan: So we're gonna spend some time talking about that.
- 31:11Lina: Okay.
- 31:12Hanan: Yeah.
- 31:12Hanan: What else?
- 31:14Lina: Um, no.
- 31:15Hanan: This episode is 108 years long.
- 31:16Hanan: I hope you guys got snacks and drinks.
- 31:19Lina: Dude, it's let me check.
- 31:20Lina: It's only like 34 minutes.
- 31:23Hanan: You make it seem like it's a whole documentary as things.
- 31:26Hanan: It is.
- 31:27Hanan: Do you know what 34 minutes are like for people these days?
- 31:29Hanan: Everybody with a short attention span.
- 31:30Hanan: Tell me I'm wrong, guys.
- 31:32Lina: If you're sitting in the in the car, I mean that's when I listen to podcasts on going sitting in traffic.
- 31:36Hanan: That's true.
- 31:36Hanan: And you know, but back to school, which means back to school traffic in this area.
- 31:40Lina: Oh, yes.
- 31:41Hanan: Don't you notice a difference like pre and post-Labor Day?
- 31:44Lina: Yeah.
- 31:44Lina: I mean, but like yesterday I was I was like ill because like I changed my shift, right?
- 31:48Lina: Like my I get home by like 3.20 now.
- 31:51Lina: It's crazy.
- 31:52Lina: Yeah, but like yesterday, because I was like on the road, like the kids wanted food.
- 31:56Lina: Like I was on the road at 5 30.
- 31:58Lina: It's crazy.
- 31:59Lina: Oh my god, this is gross.
- 32:00Lina: Like, I can't deal with it.
- 32:02Hanan: It's crazy.
- 32:02Hanan: It's it's just insane.
- 32:04Hanan: Even if you're like, even if you're like in your immediate five-mile radius, it's nuts at that time of the day.
- 32:09Hanan: I'm like, I if I don't need to be out, I don't know.
- 32:11Lina: I'm not going out.
- 32:11Lina: And it's hot, man.
- 32:12Lina: It's hot, it's too hot.
- 32:13Lina: Looking humid.
- 32:14Hanan: I'm just like my sister, she goes, I can't wait for fall time.
- 32:17Lina: Yeah, I'm ready for fall.
- 32:18Lina: Definitely.
- 32:19Lina: I know, but I kind of get sad.
- 32:20Hanan: I mean, I mean, I don't like to be cold.
- 32:27Lina: Listen, I'm okay with the cold as long as there's not there's nothing.
- 32:30Hanan: I do have though so many cute coats and sweaters.
- 32:33Lina: Okay, yeah, you had to just put that in there, huh?
- 32:35Lina: Um my fall wear is on point.
- 32:38Lina: I'm okay with the cold as long as it doesn't um impede my ability to go places.
- 32:44Lina: Yeah.
- 32:44Lina: Like, like, okay, if it's gonna snow, okay, I'm okay with like four, five, six inches.
- 32:48Hanan: I'm not okay with snow at all because everybody like loses it in this area.
- 32:51Lina: Yeah, in this area, it's pretty bad.
- 32:52Lina: That's why that's the only negative thing about it.
- 32:54Lina: Okay, but like other than that, I don't mind it.
- 32:56Lina: I mean, the perfect weather for me, I think is April May.
- 33:00Lina: I love that.
- 33:01Hanan: It's nice, but but I also feel like we get weirdly like a lot of rain in this area during that time.
- 33:06Lina: I hate it.
- 33:06Hanan: I know.
- 33:07Hanan: No, it's uh it's like so and then and then like you saw all the.
- 33:09Lina: I mean, we're so old, we're talking about the weather, but like you saw yesterday how bad the storms are.
- 33:14Lina: Yeah, you would expect, oh, today it's gonna be nice.
- 33:16Lina: No, it's hot.
- 33:16Lina: It's disgusting.
- 33:18Lina: It is hot as balls outside.
- 33:19Lina: It's so gross, dude.
- 33:20Hanan: It's better than yesterday than the past couple of days, but like, no, it's still really warm.
- 33:23Hanan: But yeah, why are we talking about the weather?
- 33:24Hanan: I don't know, because we're old.
- 33:25Hanan: We're officially old.
- 33:26Hanan: But yeah, I'm so excited to be back, you guys.
- 33:28Hanan: I'm so excited to like hear from you.
- 33:30Hanan: I want to know what everybody did with their lives this summer.
- 33:33Hanan: If you were, you know, doing World Cup things, I want to hear about it.
- 33:37Hanan: I love doing World Cup things this past summer.
- 33:40Lina: Yeah, it was cool.
- 33:40Lina: And the kids, like even overseas in Palestine, like people would go like to this um like park area where they had like outdoor videos.
- 33:47Lina: Oh my god, you probably saw some videos.
- 33:49Lina: I sent you some videos.
- 33:50Hanan: Dude, it was so cute.
- 33:51Lina: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:51Hanan: It was so cute, but I'm telling you, this entire beginning of the summer, there was like 20 some odd days when Egypt was in the World Cup, and every day it was like and then it was just or or you know, then I'm serehabi psi like this is just everywhere.
- 34:07Hanan: I know, I know.
- 34:08Hanan: I felt like that was just so annoying though.
- 34:10Lina: No, it wasn't no, but it was like because you were so happy, like you were so happy for them, and like you know, you everyone was like, So none of that, because usually that that stuff gets old, but no.
- 34:19Hanan: But honestly, by the time they were out of the World Cup and then they went home, and all I was like, I'm I'm good, I'm done.
- 34:23Hanan: I was like, I'm I'm good.
- 34:26Hanan: I it's time to focus on something else.
- 34:28Hanan: But we had a it was such a fun ride while it lasted.
- 34:31Hanan: Yeah, like I would definitely like I I don't know, it was it was just it was fantastic.
- 34:36Hanan: I loved it.
- 34:37Lina: No, I mean listen, we need some kind of hope.
- 34:40Hanan: We do, we do, and I was, you know, honestly, I was um I it I don't know for me, like I thought summer would be I don't know, I was like really worried about summer for some odd reason.
- 34:50Hanan: Why?
- 34:50Hanan: Because the first summer like without my dad, and I was like, there's so many changes, yeah, but summer was like good.
- 34:56Lina: Alhamdulillah.
- 34:57Hanan: As I always say, I'm like, was it great?
- 34:59Lina: No, it can always be better.
- 35:00Hanan: It could always be better, right?
- 35:01Hanan: But alhamdulillah, we're alive, things are good, you know, we're we're we were happy, we made so many great memories, yes, and now it's gonna be cold again.
- 35:10Lina: Yes, no, it's not it's still we've still got a couple months in this area.
- 35:12Lina: Come on, I don't know, and up until like what beginning of November?
- 35:16Lina: No, we're good.
- 35:16Lina: I guess I think we should wrap this up.
- 35:18Lina: All right, I'll see you guys next week, inshallah, and make sure that happens.
- 35:23Hanan: Okay this one.
- 35:25Lina: I can't I feel attacked.
- 35:27Lina: Um yeah, one more thing before we leave.
- 35:30Lina: I did want to try to do videos all the time I did not have the chance, guys.
- 35:34Lina: I'm sorry.
- 35:34Lina: Like I was gonna post some stuff on social media, but like I was.
- 35:37Lina: Honestly, everybody takes a break.
- 35:38Lina: No, no, I was too busy with family.
- 35:40Lina: There's just like no.
- 35:42Hanan: No, it's fine.
- 35:43Lina: Even if we don't, honestly, I love the fact that we're just like off during the we're gonna we're gonna lock in and inshallah we're gonna have an amazing.
- 35:50Lina: No, no, no, no, but we're locking in.
- 35:52Lina: Halas, because like you know, my shift is different at work.
- 35:54Lina: That's true.
- 35:55Lina: So we're gonna make uh we're gonna make it work.
- 35:56Lina: We'll make it work, definitely.
- 35:58Lina: Yeah, and until next time, let us know what topics you guys want us to discuss.
- 36:01Lina: If you have something specific, let us know.
- 36:04Hanan: Awesome.
- 36:04Lina: Yeah, thank you.
- 36:05Lina: Bye.
