- 2:49You are. You are irregular on my show,
- 2:52and it took four episodes before I got on here and I had to drop

- 2:59be on the pod? I don't get it.
- 3:00You're asking me for recommendations.
- 3:02Do you know this guy? Can you speak to this guy?
- 3:05But you're not talking to me. What did I do to you?
- 3:08Why am I? Why did why was I did Why was I
- 3:12the fifth option to be a guest on your show when I was there.
- 3:17When the idea when the idea of this your podcast started
- 3:20killing them podcast. I was there when it started.
- 3:24I was there when you got when when the the system was going
- 3:29on, the graphics was there. I was even instrumental in some
- 3:34part of it. And then I'm still #5 as a guest
- 3:38I am disappointed in. You I think are you #5 think
- 3:44shag shag was on earlier today so.
- 3:49You have been making it worse. OK, It's OK.
- 3:52No, I'm fine. I'm glad to be here.
- 3:56I will. I will.
- 4:00Sorry, a prophet is not appreciated in his hometown.
- 4:04Yeah, right. Yeah, right.
- 4:07I think, I think your audio breaks a bit.
- 4:09I'm not sure which microphone you're using.
- 4:11Are you using your microphone or do you want on your headset?
- 4:14It's breaking up a bit. OK, let me check the sex scene.
- 4:18Let me check the setting. Boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 4:21Yeah. And he's in this this microphone
- 4:23and I'm using. OK.
- 4:28I think, I think it's fine now. It's fine.
- 4:30I can hear you. OK, I had to go to the setting.
- 4:34OK, good, good, good, good, good.
- 4:35All good now. So yes, alright.
- 4:38You once again welcome. Who is to build a menu?
- 4:42Like, who are you? We're getting into it straight
- 4:47away, ladies and gentlemen. My name Jibril Aminu, by the
- 4:52way. On my passport it did.
- 4:53It does say Aminu Jibril, uh long story, but uh, my name is
- 5:00Jabro, my dad's name is Aminu. I am from Sokoto State in
- 5:04Nigeria. That's the extreme northwestern
- 5:07part of Nigeria. For those that don't understand
- 5:10Nigerian geography, that is part of the Sahara.
- 5:13So we are actually closer to the Sudans and the Senegalese than
- 5:19being closer to Nigeria, if that makes sense.
- 5:22So hence why, yeah, hence why I run into a lot of Africans and I
- 5:30would say I'm Nigerian and they would try to argue with me and I
- 5:34would have to speak pigeon for them to understand to to agree
- 5:37actually. But yeah, so I'm from Sokoto
- 5:40State, Nigeria. I was born in Lagos but only
- 5:44stayed there for like the 1st 10 years of my life before we moved
- 5:48to Sokoto. We moved back to Sokoto because
- 5:51my dad was in the Air Force, so the Nigerian Air Force, and he
- 5:54was based at the Air Force Base in Lagos, which is where I was
- 5:57born. Yeah, I've been around the
- 6:02world, uh dominantly. I've been in Asia for a long
- 6:06time. I spent about six years in
- 6:08China. When I went to uni I I did study
- 6:11in Nigeria as well, but I moved to the UK here just about three
- 6:18years ago during the pandemic, which is a crazy whole chapter,
- 6:24but. Just entire.
- 6:27Yeah. The question is who is Jibril?
- 6:30Yes. So Jabrill is that is who I am.
- 6:35Hausa Boy, Sokoto, Nigeria I am a bit into media.
- 6:42I I have a podcast with my colleague Farooq about African
- 6:46fighters. I'm very passionate about sports
- 6:48at large, but in the hierarchy of sports, I'm passionate about
- 6:54MMA and combat sports is up there.
- 6:56So I watch a lot of football. I mean, soccer to Americans
- 7:01don't watch American football. But I watch, I do watch a whole
- 7:04bunch of sports. I'm a big fan of the NBA,
- 7:10Premier League, football, pro wrestling, WWE, yeah to watch a
- 7:19whole lot of stuff. So hence why.
- 7:21Hence How I Met King Dems here. So me and King Dems met in one
- 7:25of the, I don't know, chat rooms of MMA, MMA space that we met.
- 7:32And yeah, so me and Farouq, my colleague, we started the
- 7:37African fighters as a space for African fans of combat sports.
- 7:41Because at that point it was a point when we had three Kings,
- 7:45we had three African champions in the UFC.
- 7:48And then we decided like, yo, this is exciting.
- 7:51We got to pull ourselves together and then yeah, we did
- 7:53pull the African fighters together.
- 7:55And today I would say it has been a success so far.
- 8:00We put our podcast weekly, we've got a YouTube channel, we've got
- 8:05social media and stuff, we've got website.
- 8:08We even we even had pioneered, I believe the first African Combat
- 8:13Sports awards which were doing the 2nd edition next month.
- 8:18Um, yeah. I really, really are not.
- 8:23I'm not really doing a good job answering this question.
- 8:25I've been all over the place talking about myself and talking
- 8:28about the things I've done. But yeah, please, it's your
- 8:33fault. You ask me very vague question,
- 8:35ask me question directs that we answer.
- 8:38So I would be beating around the Bush.
- 8:41They'll be open minded. And I said open-ended brother,
- 8:44right, But interesting. Don't worry, we'll work through.
- 8:47We'll work through your life, work with things you've done
- 8:49right. But then can you, like talk
- 8:50briefly about your childhood, like, was childhood like for
- 8:53you? And of course your university
- 8:55days, because universities are quite interesting.
- 8:58You went to China, right? You're the China man.
- 9:00So let us, let us, let us have it.
- 9:06What childhood, first ten years of my life was in Lagos, in the
- 9:10barracks. I'm a typical barrack boy, but
- 9:15inside the barrack we were in the officers quarters.
- 9:17So we were not in the rough areas of the barracks.
- 9:21We were sort of like in the booty areas at Gibraltar areas
- 9:24Nigerian reference, that's like the the butter kids in it.
- 9:28So after I was 10, we moved back to Sokoto which is in the
- 9:35northern part of Nigeria that is.
- 9:38That opened my eyes a lot because I would say I've been
- 9:40fortunate to to understand the whole of the country in Nigeria
- 9:48is because I was born in the South and then grew up a bit
- 9:51there and then moved to the north.
- 9:53So I kind of understand both areas or cultures.
- 9:59And yeah, moving to Sokoto, I was very different.
- 10:03If if you've never been to the northern part of Nigeria, it
- 10:06totally feels like a different part of the country.
- 10:08If you land in Kano State, for example, and you land in Lagos,
- 10:14you probably think you're in two different places because the
- 10:16language, it's totally, totally different.
- 10:20So yes, I was exposed to that early.
- 10:25Blessed to have I went to unity Colleges.
- 10:29So there's this thing called unity colleges in Nigeria.
- 10:31You probably don't know king them.
- 10:32So our educates you. So Unity colleges is like
- 10:36something that the federal government of education did
- 10:38where they tried to get federal secondary schools that would
- 10:42give equal amount of admissions to kids in 36 states of Nigeria.
- 10:49So it's called Unity College because it's even if it's in
- 10:53Sokoto, for example, it's not going to be dominated by Sokoto
- 10:56boys or Sokoto girls. Understand Sokoto students.
- 10:59It would be kids from all across the country.
- 11:02So I was privileged to be in a Unity College where there were
- 11:07kids from Borno Adamawa, kids from the South, Ibo boys and
- 11:11girls and all that. So umm, I got really exposed to
- 11:18like Pan Pan Africanism or Pan Nigeria anism or nationalism,
- 11:23wherever the world would be. So I got exposed to different
- 11:26cultures there as well. It was a very, very beautiful
- 11:31experience. I went to boarding school and I
- 11:35really enjoyed it after that. I'm not a young boy.
- 11:40I graduated secondary school in two. 1000 How old are you?
- 11:43How old are you? I am 32 years old, so I.
- 11:53Graduated. They're not old.
- 11:54I'm 31 and I'm young. Big Brother let me finish so so
- 12:01so graduated high school 2007. I started going to uni in KB
- 12:08states is another state in northern Nigeria in Kebbi state
- 12:14and I wasn't really paying attention to be honest in school
- 12:18at that point I was just doing what whatever I want to do.
- 12:22I was very young, I was what, 16 at the time I graduated.
- 12:28I started going to uni at 16, so I really didn't even know what.
- 12:32Yeah, I did not even know what was this thing called credit
- 12:37score. You know what?
- 12:37In credit units unit. I didn't know what credit unit
- 12:42was until I got to my 4th year in uni.
- 12:44That time I did not know what it was.
- 12:47So that's how one serious I was. But I graduated with a past
- 12:55degree. What that is is you are not.
- 12:59It's not an option. Certificate of attendance.
- 13:03So sort of like that, sort of like that.
- 13:05So like, you just get to go to NYC and then yeah, So what
- 13:10happened is when I go home with my past degree, my dad was like,
- 13:13Nah dude, you're not going to you're not going to do anything
- 13:19with this or whatever and. Then you have that time.
- 13:25This was 2013, so that was 10. I'll be 22, right.
- 13:31Wait yeah, cause I yeah, I think I'll be 22 at that point 2013
- 13:36because when 2023 now. So yeah, this was around 2013.
- 13:40So I go back, my dad was like, Nah, you've got to do another
- 13:46one. And at that point, my younger
- 13:49brother was just about to leave the country.
- 13:51I'm in the country and to go study somewhere.
- 13:54And then, yeah, China came along.
- 13:57A lot of people ask me why China, it's just fate because it
- 14:02was my dad always gets Daily Trust newspaper every day.
- 14:06So there was a publication on the Daily Trust about Anzac.
- 14:11Anzac is the association of Nigerian students in China.
- 14:14So they will make, they made a post about, oh we've got a new
- 14:17president in answer. I mean, I I saw that I was like,
- 14:21wait, what? Because when my dad gets a
- 14:24newspaper, every, every time he brings a newspaper, because I
- 14:27love sports, I start from the back page.
- 14:30Right. Normally, traditionally,
- 14:32traditionally, Traditionally if you, if you get a newspaper,
- 14:37yeah, if you get a newspaper, you look at the headlines and
- 14:40then and flip through it. But me, what I normally do is I
- 14:43go. I start from the back because
- 14:45the sports, the sports columns are all in the back.
- 14:49Calling to do the same thing. So, So what I do with those
- 14:54newspapers is I go, I go through the back, I go through the
- 14:57sports column and then I go through the from there I go
- 15:01through the puzzles. I try to to do that daily puzzle
- 15:03that they do and then I'll start reading news.
- 15:06So after my sport. Yeah, Did you ever buy
- 15:12themselves spookiest papers? The likes of complete sports?
- 15:15Those. Ohh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 15:17yes, yes. Are you?
- 15:18Launched. I used to buy those things.
- 15:20Yeah, I used to carve them up and decorate my desk in
- 15:22secondary school. Ohh wow.
- 15:25Like the pictures right? You scissors and cut them and
- 15:28put them on my door in my drawer.
- 15:29House school. But yeah, so this day, this
- 15:34Daily Trust newspaper, I flipped through the back as usual.
- 15:36Then I went to do the daily puzzle as usual.
- 15:39And then just there I just saw a tiny column and they were
- 15:43talking about I was like Nigerians in China, students.
- 15:46So they universities in China. And then I was like, Ohh, I
- 15:51gotta look this up, right? And then I remember at that
- 15:56point, my brother, my brother was about to go to Malaysia, my
- 15:58younger brother. And because I brought up China
- 16:03was like, your dad, there's China.
- 16:05And then we looked it up and we saw that the, the tuition fee
- 16:08was not all that looked at Chinese universities like, OK,
- 16:11yeah, you go fight, you go figure it out Because I knew
- 16:14that my dad says I had to do another degree.
- 16:16I knew that if I don't stand up and actually get this to go
- 16:20through, I'll end up doing another degree in Nigeria, which
- 16:24as a kid that time you feel like a failure because all your
- 16:28coursemates are already doing NYC, are already working and you
- 16:31would not want, you would not be encouraged to go to school, to
- 16:34uni again when all your coursemates have already gone
- 16:37ahead. So I was like, I have to see
- 16:40this through. I started going to the Internet
- 16:42cafe because at that point Internet wasn't well is not what
- 16:45it is today. Internet cafe.
- 16:48I remember the name of the website I found because I just
- 16:52used clicked on the first website I searched when I
- 16:54searched on Google admissions in China, Chinese admission.
- 16:58The first link was an agency. It's called CCAS.
- 17:05I went there, searched, and then when I was just there and agent
- 17:09just popped up, he was like, yeah, how can I help you?
- 17:11Like yo, I'm looking for admission 2 people and the guy
- 17:16was answering me sharp, sharp. He was answering me, sharp,
- 17:18sharp and he was like, where do you want to go?
- 17:22I said Anywhere that has Nigerians causing my head.
- 17:24I was thinking there will be no Nigerians there.
- 17:26I two things I told him I want. I want petroleum engineering for
- 17:31my brother and I want computer science for myself.
- 17:34I want English taught Tom. I won't discourses to be taught
- 17:38in English because I don't want to come.
- 17:40I have to learn Chinese and I want, I want a city or a school
- 17:44that has a big Nigerian population, which is why I
- 17:48messed up, because when I went there, Nigerians have already
- 17:51corrupted the system. I should have told him to just
- 17:54take me to another, another city.
- 17:56But yeah, so that was my that was how.
- 17:59Community. Anyways, yeah, so that's that
- 18:02was how I got, I got, I got the admission me and my brother, we
- 18:07ran in 2014. We went to China.
- 18:11Then how's the time in China? How's the time in China like,
- 18:16how did you adapt to the system? What's the name You see?
- 18:19You see you like you are asking big questions.
- 18:22How was your time in China? You have to give me specifics,
- 18:26but yes, China was fine. So any culture shock like what
- 18:32hits you? Know you're talking.
- 18:35Now you're talking. So I I think I'm still learning
- 18:41bro, with diversity and what the world is.
- 18:45For example, leaving Nigeria and they're moving to China and then
- 18:49ending up spending six years in China, right.
- 18:51Then moving to the UK quarterly totally opened my mind when I
- 18:56got here. Like, for example, if you tell a
- 19:00British person like you spent some time in China, they're
- 19:02like, were they racist to you? You know, that's the first thing
- 19:04that comes to your mind. And me, when I was in China,
- 19:08now, looking back, racism was happening to me, but I didn't
- 19:12know it was racism. I just thought they were being
- 19:15ignorant which they were being ignorant.
- 19:17But because most Chinese folks don't don't don't have
- 19:26experiences meeting foreigners because we are foreigners there.
- 19:29It's not just me, any colour of skin including white people.
- 19:34They don't have experience meeting them.
- 19:36Loads of people where you every day I go to a train station and
- 19:39enter a train I would run into a Chinese person that will tell me
- 19:42you are the first black person I've ever seen in my life.
- 19:45So and then they go, they could ask you very stupid questions
- 19:49like how did you come here? I heard there are no planes in
- 19:52Africa blah blah blah. So what are you tried?
- 19:54What I tried to do is. What I try to do is I don't show
- 20:00them that I speak Chinese because I can't do speak
- 20:02Chinese. When when when you run into them
- 20:05and they understand, they realise that you understand how
- 20:07to speak Chinese, bro. The questions that they'll
- 20:10bombard you with. You could have 20 people circle
- 20:13around you. Circle around you, looking at
- 20:16you there. Could be curious enough to say
- 20:17they want to put your hair, bro. So.
- 20:20Crazy. So it's let me tell you a story,
- 20:23a story in my uni, our because what in the uni I was, we had
- 20:29this international building, so it's the faculty of
- 20:32international students. So it's a ginormous building
- 20:35with like 20 floors and there was like, uh, our classes were
- 20:41in there, we had our apartments in there, we had our
- 20:45supermarkets, Choshu, we had them in there.
- 20:48We had all the rec centres in there and stuff and and so the
- 20:58supermarket there, there's this lovely eye.
- 21:02Sorry, I is like auntie, so we call there's shifu and I in
- 21:08Chinese. So shifu, every elderly person
- 21:10you see just call him shifu or if she's elderly you call her
- 21:14eye because it's uncle and auntie or whatever.
- 21:17So there's this lovely I she's very lovely to me and my
- 21:20brother. And another thing is they don't
- 21:22they're not used to seeing siblings because they're mostly
- 21:25have wine, kid, Papa family. And so they know that me and my
- 21:29brother were bought. We're both tall and we kind of
- 21:31look the same, so she's very nice to us.
- 21:35She gives us free stuff sometimes, but then that as
- 21:38lovely as she is, there was a time that she brought she I was
- 21:43standing in the aisle of soaps and then she showed me a soup
- 21:47and was like I should use this soup to lighten my skin.
- 21:53So she thinks that she thinks that if I back very well I'm
- 21:59going to be light skin like her. Ohh.
- 22:04I just laughed because I did not know.
- 22:07I just found it funny because again a Nigerian coming from
- 22:10Nigeria. Nigeria is a place that we have
- 22:120 white people. So the idea of racism does not
- 22:16exist in Nigeria. People do not.
- 22:19Media does not bleep when people use the N word because it
- 22:23doesn't carry anything. So like people just go around.
- 22:27People just go around throwing the N word everywhere because it
- 22:30doesn't exist in our community. We don't know those sort of
- 22:33things. So like me, they have that
- 22:34orientation of not seeing racism.
- 22:36When I go to China and it happens to me, I really don't.
- 22:39Still don't see it. So again that's comes back to
- 22:43what I was telling you of like me coming to the UK and then now
- 22:46realising Ohh is this because we what I know now and the value of
- 22:54the value I carry my life with right now, with the fact that
- 22:56I've been, I've been exposed to this diversity.
- 22:59I don't think I would be able to stay six years in China if I
- 23:03moved from here, but from Nigeria obviously I would be
- 23:06able to. Yeah, but The thing is, you
- 23:08know, people, people are more sensitive in this part of the
- 23:10world than. Yeah.
- 23:12So and and then yes, you you learn to be sensitive yourself
- 23:16too because you learn to to to to to to speak for yourself and
- 23:21like treat people the way you would want them to be.
- 23:24You would you would want to be treated as well.
- 23:26So it's not the case in Nigeria, bro.
- 23:29You know Nigeria you can only get people to treat you how you
- 23:33want when you have money. When you don't have money, you
- 23:36just have to survive. How, how?
- 23:38How you get treated. What's it like in Nigeria?
- 23:42You If you don't have money, you don't have rights.
- 23:44But if you have money, then you can say you have.
- 23:46Rights. Exactly, exactly right.
- 23:48It's not on that I did not understand what human rights is
- 23:52until I got here in China. I still didn't know.
- 23:55Because to be honest, this nation, right?
- 23:58So, so there's a lot of rules that you would have to follow
- 24:04blindly without questioning why the rules are there.
- 24:07And here if your rule is being put in place, you have to
- 24:11question and scrutinise. Why am I?
- 24:13Why do I have to do this in China?
- 24:15You don't have a choice, you just have to.
- 24:17You just have to do it like for. I'll give you an example, right?
- 24:21Let's say you go downstairs your apartment now and you try to
- 24:26leave the building through the main gate and the security man
- 24:30tells you no, you can't use this gate, go and use the back gate
- 24:34to go out. You would have to ask him like
- 24:38dude, why can I not go out through here?
- 24:40Why? And then he would explain to you
- 24:43like, ohh OK, there's some gas work that is being done, blah
- 24:49blah blah blah blah. And then you would understand
- 24:51and then leave. If this was China, you go
- 24:55downstairs and you try to go out through that same door and the
- 24:58security there tells you you can't use this door, you have to
- 25:00use the back. And you ask him why.
- 25:03He will tell you because it's the rule now.
- 25:05It's the new rule. And then you ask him, please
- 25:07explain to me why is this happening here.
- 25:09He will tell you. I don't know.
- 25:11My superior told me not to let anybody go through here and
- 25:15legitimately that officer, the other security man, does not
- 25:19know why because he is not trained to question power, which
- 25:26is expected by the citizens as well.
- 25:28So the citizens are not meant to expect to to to to question
- 25:32power once there's a rule is a rule If you if a Chinese man,
- 25:36yeah. If a Chinese man walks down and
- 25:37they tell him you can't use these gates, you have to use the
- 25:39other one. He wouldn't say anything.
- 25:40He will turn around and go. It's only us foreigners that
- 25:43would be like what? Why do you understand?
- 25:46Then go to Nigeria. Now.
- 25:49Just go to Nigeria now. Nigerians will like they claim
- 25:53victim. They'll be our problem.
- 25:54If person could say I want to go out through this door and the
- 26:00security say no. Now rule two things can happen.
- 26:04You can give the security money and then he'll turn the blind
- 26:07eye. He can pass, right?
- 26:10Ohh. Ohh you start being like this is
- 26:14injustice. You people are really the
- 26:16government is rubbish. It'll be chaos.
- 26:21So, yeah, I've. I've experienced everything,
- 26:25mate. Yeah.
- 26:26So, yeah, well, asking that question, we have almost been
- 26:30half an hour. We are, we are still in China.
- 26:32Ask another question. OK, so are you have actually
- 26:35acquired a lot of skills, right? From being a computer scientist
- 26:39to creative writing, photography, videography, social
- 26:43media strategist and a whole lot more.
- 26:45Like, how did all of these come into play?
- 26:48Like how did you pick up, you know, different skills at
- 26:51different points of your life? Is it?
- 26:54Is it actually deliberate or it's just a matter of faith?
- 26:58OK, so I've always been passionate about filmmaking
- 27:01growing up as a kid, whenever I see a film or movie, I'm always
- 27:06looking at every movie. I see at this, at the fine
- 27:09mistake inside. I'm always looking at how is
- 27:12this shot, how did they take this shot on, how do they do
- 27:14this? So I fell in love with the
- 27:16camera by then. There are a lot of
- 27:22photographers, popular photographers right now in
- 27:24northern Nigeria that we started together.
- 27:26We started with the photography and enthusiasm.
- 27:29So I want I loved film, but then film wasn't achievable for me
- 27:33because I was seeing the only film close to me is Kannywood
- 27:36and that's not what I want. So I ended up being into
- 27:40photography and some sort of documentary filmmaking.
- 27:46So I so growing up at that point photography is something that is
- 27:58being shamed upon and videography as well because I
- 28:03told my parents that yo, I want to be a filmmaker.
- 28:06They will say hey you want to be a cameraman that's what they're
- 28:09thinking or in house they cannot you wouldn't know who to don't
- 28:13Hotel means like the photographer and event is look
- 28:16is not is not looked as a posture because it doesn't
- 28:19really pay very well in Sokoto at the time.
- 28:22So I always wanted to study filmmaking.
- 28:26But when I got the chance to leave Nigeria and I could not
- 28:32tell my parents that I'm going to China, I want to do
- 28:35filmmaking. When I get to China.
- 28:37I had to do something that is close, closest, closest to it,
- 28:40which was computer science. OK, I can edit on my laptop.
- 28:44So at least if I go study computer science and I tell them
- 28:47that I want the Pentium I7 or I5 laptop or whatever, they'll buy
- 28:53it for me. Because I truly want to use that
- 28:55laptop to to do video editing, right?
- 28:58I don't want to use it for for for coding, so I would say.
- 29:04I would say mean computer science is the fate.
- 29:06But me in the media space is something that I subconsciously
- 29:12taught myself to do. Like for example, the creative
- 29:15side of things like the creative writing.
- 29:17I actually don't vision myself as the writer, although I have
- 29:20to do it because I did a lot for a Q oh, I'm wearing their
- 29:24T-shirt AQ African Knockout. This is a promotion by Kamaru
- 29:27Usman. Yeah, I do scripting for them a
- 29:32lot. But uh, that creative side is
- 29:36mostly from the content I consume.
- 29:38I watch UFC do UFC embedded, I watch UFC do a cold opener and
- 29:45I'm not watching it the way you're watching it.
- 29:47You are watching it for them to sell a fight for you.
- 29:49Me, I'm watching it. Wow.
- 29:51They have, they have. This is very good.
- 29:56It's either fight for them the apparel as well, right, so.
- 30:03Yeah, yeah. But they emerge.
- 30:05Yeah, so, so so that's how that's how I I found myself in
- 30:10this space And to start with the whole media company that we own,
- 30:16Ryan Farooq. It was in the Pandemic, bro.
- 30:20There's a whole chapter of my life that we didn't talk about
- 30:23the because I was in China when COVID started.
- 30:25But we remind me, I'll give you the gist of that one.
- 30:28OK, so don't let it get cold. Let's transition into that,
- 30:32Yeah. No, I have to finish.
- 30:34This in India is in my head. I have to tell you how.
- 30:36Our podcast started. So, so the African fighters, it
- 30:41started like me and Farouq went to the same secondary school in
- 30:47Sokoto. So when I moved to the UK, he's
- 30:50in Middlesbrough, I'm in Nottingham.
- 30:52So we kind of reconnected again and started chatting.
- 30:55He's one of the smartest guys I've known, like in secondary
- 30:58school, he's like the guys in the top of the class.
- 31:00Me, I'm the average student. So we were chatting and then one
- 31:04thing we had in common, football and MMA, we were watching UFC.
- 31:07Because that point I was a big fan of Kamaru Usman.
- 31:10And then we'll be chatting about it and then we'll spend like an
- 31:13hour talking on the phone And then I was like, you know what
- 31:17this thing would you talk? These conversations are having,
- 31:19they are very nice conversations.
- 31:21I think we should record it and put it out there on Zoom, stay
- 31:24on zoom, we record on Zoom. And then I'll just use my
- 31:28editing, just book full graphic on the Zoom thing and just put
- 31:32it online. And then that's how that's how
- 31:35we started. Then we jumped into social
- 31:37media, started doing the social media thing, and then starting
- 31:40started. We started reaching out to
- 31:42fighters trying to get interviews.
- 31:44We are getting interviews here and there and that's how the
- 31:49African fighters was born. So uh, how I started working
- 31:55with AQ. EQ have Camaro.
- 31:57Usman's enemy promotion, you see when you.
- 32:02Oh, yes. Oh, yes, yes.
- 32:05Come on. Yeah, come on.
- 32:08We had this conversation in the past, right?
- 32:10For me, Israel Adesanya, you Kamaru.
- 32:13Interesting, like I have. Connection.
- 32:15Yeah, so come on. Israel's right and then my mom
- 32:21is accused. States right?
- 32:22That is Kamaru. Ohh yeah.
- 32:25Yeah. So, so, so let me tell you how I
- 32:28can go connected to Kamara. I'm a big pro wrestling fan,
- 32:34lifelong pro wrestling fan. So sometimes there will be
- 32:36crossovers between pro wrestling and UFC, you know though
- 32:42sometime in WW they showed in a white on the screen, maybe in
- 32:45the Romania or Ronda Rousey coming in.
- 32:47But you see the Conor McGregor time.
- 32:51I missed the whole of the Conor McGregor time.
- 32:53I wasn't a fan of enemy at that time.
- 32:55But then UFC. Yeah, UFC 200.
- 32:59When Brock Lesnar made a return to UFC at that point I I watched
- 33:04a bit of UFC 200 because of Brock Lesnar and still because
- 33:09it should fight in the pro wrestling if they say something
- 33:12to shoot they mean something is real O ma is shoot fight.
- 33:15It's not as entertaining as purely because pro wrestling is
- 33:18scripted so it's not very pretty to see the Macrons Brock Lesnar
- 33:23fight was like OK I got I got tuned out again but then UFC
- 33:29continued jumping into WWE. Then by chance I just saw you
- 33:34Nigerian man in the middle of the Octagon speaking pigeon
- 33:37after he after a victory see who is this guy Kamaru Usman.
- 33:42OK followed him on Instagram so that's how I go introduce.
- 33:45Then I started watching his fight.
- 33:47I started watching his fight. I think the the the the promo I
- 33:51saw was the 30% promo. Ohh no no that was before that
- 33:54one. So anyways I say following
- 33:59Kamaru Usman and as I before at that point I did not even know
- 34:04what weight classes were. When Israel came into the UFC I
- 34:08was like ohh come out with my want to win this title and then
- 34:11this Israel boys coming. I didn't even know they were in
- 34:13different weight classes have yeah, that many Nigerian will
- 34:18fight in Nigeria. So when I then got into the game
- 34:22where where when I really understood what it was, it was
- 34:27actually in the Pandemic, the beginning of the Pandemic that I
- 34:30just tuned into like a proper ammonoid.
- 34:34I'm very, very late to the party.
- 34:37I was speaking to Farooq. Farooq Amazing.
- 34:40Very, very, yeah. Farooq is a very, very big Conor
- 34:45McGregor fan. He got into MMA because of Conor
- 34:47McGregor, because he's a Real Madrid fan and he liked
- 34:50Cristiano Ronaldo. And then there was a poster.
- 34:53Connor and Christiano were doing something together and then
- 34:56that's when Farooq got into it, so.
- 34:59That's how asked me, Rhonda and Connor.
- 35:04Yeah. Rhonda and Connor, yeah, refers
- 35:07me to. Gain so, so yes, as I was
- 35:09telling you my brother, that's how the African fighters
- 35:13started. Me and Farooq were chatting and
- 35:15we decided to start recording our conversations.
- 35:18Ohh, interesting. Then the pandemic period, right?
- 35:21Yeah. Well, went back to China.
- 35:25The UK you came to the UK in during the pandemic period.
- 35:30Yeah, yeah. Not the end.
- 35:31In the middle of it. In the middle of it, I went back
- 35:38to Nigeria to do NYC after my degree.
- 35:41So umm, when I did my NYC, I came back from my masters.
- 35:47I came in October, was in NN of 2019, so as I arrived I was in a
- 35:57city called Huainan in safe browsing in sorry in Anhui
- 36:02province in China. It's closer to Shanghai so and
- 36:07only two hours away from Wuhan Wuhan which is where the virus
- 36:12started from. So uh, when I came in November
- 36:18remember and they called COVID-19, COVID-19 because it
- 36:22started in 2019 but the rest of the world got in touch of it in
- 36:262020. So as I got there in November, 2
- 36:29weeks later, we started hearing something about a virus in
- 36:32Wuhan. So that was when I intended to
- 36:37visit my old city, the city that I did my undergrad, which is
- 36:41Ginjo. And the train I was in was one
- 36:46of the trains that was being like they they were trying to
- 36:50like do the, the manifest of the people on those trains, patient
- 36:56zeros basically. So we were asked to like
- 36:59quarantine because people coming from Wuhan were on that train at
- 37:03some point before it got to wherever I was and then I got
- 37:06off. So like, we were like the first
- 37:08people that were in quarantine in the whole world.
- 37:11So it was, it was a very, very horrible experience.
- 37:16The Chinese people like to like to like, like to overblow things
- 37:20cause they'll be coming to give you food in hazmat suits.
- 37:24So that was really scary to be honest.
- 37:28I thought the world was going to end.
- 37:29I thought everybody will die. So yeah.
- 37:33Did you first chance? I got to leave, took it and
- 37:36moved out here. Hmm, interested.
- 37:40And then you said like ohh. Like and and also also I
- 37:45survived Ebola. Wow.
- 37:49He's like you said you were chased by pandemics in your
- 37:52lifetime. Yeah, you survived.
- 37:54Ebola. I believe Ebola.
- 37:55Ebola was 20. I believe Ebola was 2015.
- 38:01What was it, 2014? Yeah, So in my former unit, the
- 38:06one that I did my undergrad, there is a building called Ebola
- 38:09building till today. So in the blocks of the so
- 38:11blocks of dormitory buildings. So when Ebola started, every
- 38:16African kid that comes to uni will be asked to quarantine in
- 38:19that building. So I was in that building
- 38:22because we were asked to quarantine.
- 38:24So we don't give the Chinese people Ebola.
- 38:26So that's why we called it Ebola building.
- 38:30So, so, so, so I wasn't Ebola building, but I never had.
- 38:35I never had Ebola, but the Chinese people made us feel like
- 38:40we are shit at that point and I didn't care.
- 38:43But then I think we thank God you did not catch Ebola.
- 38:47Yeah. Just to track you, keep you on
- 38:49track, right. You said like a different phase
- 38:51of your life, like begun where you came to the UK, right.
- 38:54And you want to share something about that.
- 38:57Like what? What would you like to share
- 38:58about, you know, the new phase of your life that's, you know,
- 39:01started to? You.
- 39:03Transition into the UK. Community wise things are very
- 39:10different things, extremely different.
- 39:12Let's say for example, transport alone.
- 39:15The first time I got my boss, I rolled on your boss.
- 39:19It was a disaster because I did not know that I'm supposed to
- 39:23stick my hand out to stop the boss.
- 39:25I was standing in a bus stop and the boss will come drive past me
- 39:29and then when I'm in the bus, I don't know.
- 39:32I don't know that. I did not know that I have to
- 39:34push a button for the bus to stop.
- 39:36At your bus stop. I'll be Saturday and I will see.
- 39:39You will see us driving past because in China if you enter
- 39:43both automatically it is stop. You don't have to tell it to
- 39:46stop. If you get to a bus stop it will
- 39:48stop, you just go out. If you if you're standing in a
- 39:51bus stop it will come and meet you.
- 39:52So you enter. So that was an issue.
- 39:55And then trains. I'm so surprised at how free
- 40:01this country is like. You want to go from here to
- 40:06London. Nobody is going to stop you.
- 40:09Just go entitle indigo. But in China or in Nigeria it
- 40:15train station is like an airport.
- 40:17You check in your bags, not really check in your bags, but
- 40:20you put your bag through the thing with the scanner so that
- 40:22you don't have any illegal stuff in it.
- 40:25You show your ticket, you show your ID, you enter, go to
- 40:28waiting area just like your boarding a plane.
- 40:30That's how you enter trains in China, but in the UK is not the
- 40:34same like when the first time I wanted to enter a train.
- 40:39There's a local train in our small town here.
- 40:43I was looking at Google Maps. OK Google Maps the train station
- 40:47day here I walk to the I walked to the train station.
- 40:49I was looking around I did not see train station bro.
- 40:52I took. I spent almost an hour looking
- 40:54for the train station because I was expecting to to see a
- 40:57building that is written train station, but no.
- 41:01It's. Small roof.
- 41:05Yeah, it's just a small small roof and you just wait.
- 41:09If didn't stop, you enter. Nobody will ask you anything.
- 41:12If they ask you for tickets, which they don't always do, is
- 41:15when you are sitting inside the train.
- 41:17So, Daisy, Daisy, there's a lot of that.
- 41:23Yeah, they said they. Said.
- 41:25Yes, it says train station, but it is point.
- 41:28It a point. It's a train station but the
- 41:30point. But then I will go there and I
- 41:32don't see anything. I'm looking for a train station
- 41:35building. Did you understand?
- 41:39So. So yeah, I think another thing,
- 41:45in China they are big on ideas like identity.
- 41:48You have to be carrying your ID along a lot depending on the
- 41:51city you have. Some cities you have to
- 41:53literally have your passport in your pocket because the police
- 41:55can literally ask you to identify yourself.
- 41:59So here it's not the same. Here you have the freedom to
- 42:02move up and down. Nobody has the right to stop you
- 42:04and ask for your ID unless you prompt them by doing something
- 42:07illegal. So um, and in China when they
- 42:12ask you to when you have your passport around, you don't feel
- 42:15like they are stressing your life because you come from
- 42:17Nigeria where life is stressful by default.
- 42:20So, so yeah, that's another that's another thing, man.
- 42:27Crazy world. I think Nigeria is also being an
- 42:29ID sort of right. Like yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 42:34Well, I don't think, I don't think it's as big as it is in
- 42:36China because China they are. When they see a foreigner, they
- 42:39are always concerned if the foreigner is legal or if the
- 42:43foreigner is what cause. Like if you have a student visa,
- 42:47you're not allowed to work on a student visa.
- 42:50So if you are working illegally now that's another issue, you
- 42:53can get gaoled for it. So and then if you are an alien
- 42:59now, another situation, be there before they send you.
- 43:01They deport you, They will gaol you first.
- 43:03So yeah. Crazy world that it feels like.
- 43:08That's like a different world entirely, but that's a that's a
- 43:12discussion for another day. So the next question basically
- 43:16is, you know, tell us about your achievements and challenges and
- 43:20life thus far. And of course, what
- 43:22accomplishments are you most proud of?
- 43:24The person? Hmm, I don't know whether I
- 43:32don't achieve anything of. You you don't too many things,
- 43:35that's a problem. No, I have not one too many
- 43:38things. I'm not on too many things.
- 43:40Everything. You are a computer scientist.
- 43:44You are a videographer. You're so should be a
- 43:48strategist, right? Come on, your content creator.
- 43:52Come on you. Have you got really, really
- 43:55great stuff? But then that's the thing with
- 43:58great people, right? They feel like they've not done
- 44:00enough. At what point do you think you
- 44:02feel like you've done it? Ohh, you're doing something to
- 44:04be proud of. Hmm, one more.
- 44:11I don't know. Let's just let's, let's let's
- 44:14start from the top, right? Like what?
- 44:16What thing have you accomplished, Aren't you?
- 44:18You look back and you say you're really proud of this thing.
- 44:23You know, Anu Sabi beat my drum, OK?
- 44:27But OK, I'm wearing an equal T-shirt, right?
- 44:31So I would say that the work that I've done for EQ.
- 44:35I feel like, I feel like it's a it's a very, very big
- 44:39accomplishment because like getting to when meets them,
- 44:42getting to even meet them to from like OK, so I mentioned we
- 44:48did the African Fighters Awards right.
- 44:50So we did an award where we gave Kamaru Usman an award and when
- 44:56we we wanted to actually physically hand him the award.
- 45:01So Kamaru Usman was in Nigeria to promote Ako and we knew he
- 45:07was in Nigeria. So we were dropping DMS to him,
- 45:09his brother, his cousin like yo guys, please, we have an award
- 45:14we want to give Kamaru Usman. We just want a picture of Kamaru
- 45:17Usman holding our award and that's it, right?
- 45:21We are not asking for interview or whatever.
- 45:24I think his brother Kash was somewhat responsive, but the
- 45:28person that actually was very, very helpful.
- 45:31Helpful was Wild Paris of Anatomy of a Fighter.
- 45:37You know we'll Harris he he was on Joe Rogan experience.
- 45:41He's the guy that has like all that does like that is the #1
- 45:46documentary maker for MMA. So he makes documentaries for
- 45:50vlogs for Kamaru Usman as well and he was with Kamaru Usman on
- 45:53that trip. So we got to speak to him and
- 45:57then when we so will Harris. Now when we give Kamaru Usman
- 46:02the award, Will Harris was like ohh yeah, we should send the the
- 46:06names of the the name of the person that is going to give the
- 46:10award. So they would add him on the
- 46:11media list for the event. So we sent and then at that
- 46:15point the only person we knew was Demola.
- 46:18You had Demola. Sorry Maya.
- 46:21Maya you had mayor on my on your podcast and we contacted.
- 46:25Mayor was like yo dude please we need to send Kamaru Usman an
- 46:30award. Can you please just hand him
- 46:31this award on behalf of us? He was like, yeah, sure, we got
- 46:36my tickets or media pass, Sumaya went.
- 46:42But damn mummy boy, he got too excited when he got met Kamaru
- 46:47Usman. He did not take a proper
- 46:48picture. I swear this picture I think
- 46:52given the award we gave him two awards to give Osman.
- 46:56I think it was fighter of the year and knock out of the year
- 47:00and one of them got broken. I don't know if he's by the
- 47:02carriers and like to be honest. The award wasn't even the one
- 47:04that we were supposed to use. We quickly found someone in
- 47:09Nigeria to make an award. Please put a sticker on it.
- 47:13Go and give us one. And yeah, so when, when that
- 47:18happened, Will Harris then saw our page and saw what we did and
- 47:22then he noticed that. I don't want to say that the
- 47:25people that ran AQ were clueless, but the people that
- 47:27ran AQ were not very experienced with Mummy and they needed
- 47:31people that knew Ma, which was awesome, and Farooq and then he
- 47:35told them, like, yo, you guys should contact these guys to
- 47:38help you out with whatever this is, right?
- 47:41And we only knew about this recently to be honest, because
- 47:45it was recently because we've been working with for two years
- 47:48now and it was recently that one of them there that was telling
- 47:51us I Will Harris had nice things to say about us.
- 47:53Ohh. OK.
- 47:56So just like what feel like the gatekeepers for MBA in Nigeria,
- 48:02right, because when I was was on the port we we we were having a
- 48:06conversation. He was really crazy about this.
- 48:09The Forbes 30 under 30 think you know at some point, right?
- 48:12And then I was like, well. If.
- 48:16He did not make the Fox 30 under 30, but at least he should be
- 48:19able to pride himself in the fact that we are one of the top
- 48:2230 Nigerians globally in terms of ME and knowledge, right?
- 48:28Yeah, myself. Yeah.
- 48:30Hey, hey. Think it was thinking wattage,
- 48:34Think about it, right? Top 30 Nigerians globally in
- 48:39terms of, you know, MMA knowledge, are you not gonna put
- 48:43yourself? Umm, I think because because
- 48:46working with Q, they've, they've brought me to Nigeria.
- 48:50I have physically met a lot of MMA players in Nigeria.
- 48:54Um, I think I've met literally everybody and to be honest,
- 49:00they've got, I've got the they respect me in that aspect.
- 49:04So that's very, very humble and very, very humble about.
- 49:07I'll have to be very, very humble about that.
- 49:10Um. And like even the fighters when
- 49:13I meet them they go they should respect I'm like you hold me you
- 49:16that you can kick my ass. Please stop this.
- 49:20Is fighting is different from the knowledge bro?
- 49:23Yeah, so. So, so, so again, as I told you,
- 49:27I don't know how to beat my drum, but yeah, I think, I think
- 49:31it's something to be proud about that we are sort of the
- 49:34gatekeepers of combat sports or M in Nigeria at least.
- 49:37Because for example, like, I don't know if you've interviewed
- 49:39Young Jealous. So it's from this.
- 49:44Yeah, so this MA space, this M, this MMA space, like for example
- 49:49Ako, when I'll I'll, I'll see like something I need like for
- 49:54example, since I got since I got started I started working with
- 49:57them. We've been making twigs here and
- 50:01there with regards to the commentary team, because
- 50:04commentary is very important because Nigerians are not very
- 50:07knowledgeable about MEP's and the way they will learn is when
- 50:10they watch on TV and they the commentator is actually
- 50:13educating them about what's going on in front of their
- 50:15screen. It's very important because when
- 50:18we met in the beginning, the people, the people that they
- 50:21had, I want, I don't want to knock anybody off.
- 50:23Like if you even go and watch that their Netflix show EQ
- 50:26African Knockout. The first one had OK Bakassi as
- 50:29the commentator, which he had no idea what he was talking about.
- 50:33And then yeah, he's a comedian. He had no idea what he was
- 50:38talking about. Ohh he's transitioning to mount
- 50:42and he is brown and pound. Oh bro, he was he was a disaster
- 50:47to listen to. Like I cringed when I listened
- 50:50to it. So we've been trying to make
- 50:51tweaks here and there like Young Jollof.
- 50:54I had to like chase Young. Well, I didn't chase Young Jung
- 50:58off, but like I told him, I recommended him and then I got
- 51:02him to have a conversation with them and then and then we
- 51:05brought him on board and then we brought recommendations here and
- 51:08there. So uh, I think with equal right
- 51:13now, I think we have the perfect balance with commentary team.
- 51:15I like what we've heard from the last event.
- 51:20Yeah. So again, I'm very, very happy
- 51:24with where AQ is now compared to before we go on board with them.
- 51:28So yeah. Yeah, that's that's some good
- 51:31stuff, you know. And of course I'm really proud
- 51:33of the work you guys are doing in terms of, you know, bringing
- 51:36MMA to the forefront in in Nigeria.
- 51:40We hope for greater. Still get the money, but you
- 51:43know it's. That you are making a mark.
- 51:46You're making a mark. You might not do it right now,
- 51:48but then in many years to come, you will be more proud of, you
- 51:52know, the good job that you guys are doing.
- 51:55You hopefully. You.
- 52:00OK, let's let's talk about the African fighters, right.
- 52:03What really drew your interest into the MMA fighters, right?
- 52:08And of course you have the African fighters, sports media
- 52:11and management, right? Is that is that correct?
- 52:15Is it like a very yeah company something?
- 52:19So, so it's registered, we are media management company, we
- 52:22manage fighters as well. But before we got into this, I
- 52:26didn't know that managing fighters is a very, very, very,
- 52:29very tough situation, most especially when it comes to
- 52:32Nigeria fighters. Our experience in that part of
- 52:36the business of management is very, very, very tiring, very,
- 52:40very tiring. But Farooq is mostly the guy
- 52:44that handles that aspect of it. Um, yeah, so we do.
- 52:50We do manage fighters. If you've got a fighter that is
- 52:52looking to get his career on track, we can actually manage.
- 52:56And if he's got a decent record, we can recommend him to top
- 53:00promotions like because we got connections with like Brave CF
- 53:04and Brave FC and RSFC. Yeah, Fernand Lopez replies.
- 53:10Our he replies, our DMS, the matchmakers at Brave, the reply,
- 53:16our DMS only people will never reply.
- 53:18We know the reply was yet. Nah, you Warriors.
- 53:23And because we know a few people.
- 53:26I think it's just a matter of asking someone for a contact
- 53:29from U Warriors and they will give it to us and at this point
- 53:32the credibility that we've. Called the FCC South Africa.
- 53:40ESC uh, I think we've we've spoken to them before.
- 53:46This guy called Graham. I think he's like one of the
- 53:49heads or if not the Dana White of EFC.
- 53:52I don't, I'm not sure. I don't think he's the owner,
- 53:53but he's like the leader there. I can't remember exactly what
- 53:57his position is. I think we spoke to him a while
- 54:00ago and he did respond, but we haven't done, we haven't had any
- 54:05proper conversation with them yet.
- 54:07However, I know that it's not going to be a hard conversation
- 54:10to have. But what's in it for what?
- 54:17What conversation? Why would you start having
- 54:19conversations when you don't have something to present?
- 54:22So I would rather have something tangible to talk about.
- 54:25I don't want to contact Graham and be like how are you Sir?
- 54:28How is the family known? So for example, I was chatting
- 54:34with Ola from Fight Week show and like Ola helped in producing
- 54:39one of the montages or video packages for one of the EFC
- 54:44cards that they do over there. And to be honest, I know a few
- 54:49people within, within AQ, within EFC management.
- 54:58It's not like I'm going to, I don't want to disclose names
- 55:00here. But yes, I do know a few people
- 55:03and most of them actually I know two people and I do one reason
- 55:08why don't you disclose them? Like you said, they mostly
- 55:10complain about the management so but then you for like for
- 55:17example. But for example, if I want, if I
- 55:19want to recommend a fighter to them icon yeah, but again I'm
- 55:25not. It depends.
- 55:27It depends. I'm.
- 55:28I'm not. I'm not managing anybody at the
- 55:30moment. We, I don't know if I should
- 55:32talk about contractual things here.
- 55:34No, I'll just leave it. But I don't have a reason to
- 55:37talk to them right now about the fighter.
- 55:39OK he just did but then let let's keep the let's keep keep
- 55:43it blankets right. So if you would like to
- 55:46recommend a top or top prospect from Nigeria, right Currently in
- 55:51you know more about the the Ms space in in life yourself,
- 55:57right? So if you were to recommend like
- 55:59the top three prospects top of your head are, who will those be
- 56:03right now? Umm, I would say people that I
- 56:10would recommend that fight in a KO.
- 56:15Do you want them to be Nigerian? Nigerian natives alone.
- 56:18Anybody, anybody. I don't care about your, your.
- 56:21So you see so like this is, this is the the Congolese guys they
- 56:26have very, very talented. This guy called Ananias Mulumba,
- 56:30that guy is crazy good. His last three fights in Nigeria
- 56:34on Nigerian soil, all of them ended up ended up with
- 56:37submission. All three fights were submission
- 56:40victories. You should go see him.
- 56:42There's this guy called Musasa, also a Congolese guy.
- 56:45He's his range. He's got a very, very long range
- 56:50and he uses it very well, very, very pinpoint accuracy.
- 56:54Striking is very. Very good.
- 56:55And he's grappling as well, such that I believe Musasa is a
- 57:00federal. No, no, he is a featherweight.
- 57:04Yeah, I think he's a featherweight.
- 57:06Yeah. There's also this guy.
- 57:08There's this guy from Senegal called Kashmiri Diatta.
- 57:11I feel like the best MMA fight in Nigerian history that
- 57:17happened inside Nigeria. The fight.
- 57:20If you want to go and watch a fight, go and watch a KO1.
- 57:24Kashmiri Diatta from Senegal versus Musasa from Congo.
- 57:28That fight was amazing. Diatta is a Senegalese
- 57:32featherweight that he does look Senegalese wrestling, but he has
- 57:36impeccable knockout power. He's very, very good.
- 57:39I think he's someone that could easily get out there as well.
- 57:43Another person in Nigeria is Jibrin Baba.
- 57:50He might not be as entertaining for people to watch because he
- 57:53he is a striker, but he likes to grapple and wrestle as well.
- 57:57So Jibrin Baba is someone to watch out for.
- 58:00I think if Jibrin goes out, I think he would do, he will do,
- 58:04he will do good. I was going to say Cornell
- 58:09Thompson, but when I saw what Mulumba did, took on our
- 58:13Thompson recently. I'm not sure anymore but an app
- 58:19is saying that you you guys yeah another guy is passing that you
- 58:22guys should look out for is. I think you have him scheduled
- 58:25for podcast. So you've already done is Shagun
- 58:28machine gun. Cheques.
- 58:31You understand? I understand that he he got
- 58:34knocked out in sometime last year, which wasn't very, very
- 58:38nice. The knockout wasn't very good.
- 58:41It was a brutal one. Um, I think he's someone that is
- 58:45very, very smart and talented as well.
- 58:47I think he just needs to pose a couple of wins together and
- 58:51he'll be out there as well. Interesting.
- 58:55OK, OK, you said. You said you said you said you.
- 58:57You you said you said you interviewed him, right?
- 59:00Yes, earlier today, earlier today.
- 59:03So don't worry, he has a question for you.
- 59:05At the end you will get his question anyways.
- 59:09He has a question for me. Yes, so basically.
- 59:13Who? Wait, who has it?
- 59:15Who has a question for me? That is sex.
- 59:19Really. OK, so sharks.
- 59:23So, so, so, so, so Shanks knows me.
- 59:26OK. It's not that he he did not know
- 59:29you were gonna come on the pod, right?
- 59:31So I have a tradition on the port at the end of the port,
- 59:33right. The current guest is a question
- 59:36for the next guest and. Ohh.
- 59:39Yeah, Yeah. So you will.
- 59:41OK, so he didn't. He wasn't asking me a question
- 59:44specifically. OK.
- 59:45Yes, yes, that's fine. So the next question is actually
- 59:48no for me, right? She's a female and she's from
- 59:53Edo State, right? And then she know she was
- 59:56telling me to ask you a lot of questions about Kamaru Usman
- 59:59because she, you know, she actually likes Camaros, man,
- 1:00:04being from Edo State. But also she put this question
- 1:00:06on the script. She said what is your take on on
- 1:00:10women's MMA? So this is for you to answer a
- 1:00:15woman asking you about. I'm going to.
- 1:00:19I'm not going to. I'm not going to answer honestly
- 1:00:22because. You're careful.
- 1:00:24You you you already, you already know.
- 1:00:28So I'm not going to answer honestly because I can put
- 1:00:30myself in in trouble with cancel culture with cancel culture.
- 1:00:35So, umm, well we saw, I would say the biggest MMA star, female
- 1:00:45MMA star of all time is Ronda Rousey.
- 1:00:47OK, so who will be your? Top. 4/5.
- 1:00:52Women. Yeah.
- 1:00:54I love talk. I love dog rows.
- 1:00:56Uh, there's Rosie. I'm your machines.
- 1:00:58Yeah. Rules Namajunas.
- 1:01:06I like dog Rose. I like Amanda.
- 1:01:09New newness Ohh my girl from China Jiangxi.
- 1:01:16I understand. Yeah, and Shevchenko.
- 1:01:20But if I'm going to rank, yes, yes.
- 1:01:23If I'm going to rank them from fighters that I would love to
- 1:01:26see or fight as I like, Number one will be I put uh the
- 1:01:41lioness. Imagine you this I think she's
- 1:01:44the good she's the GOAT of. Woman.
- 1:01:45Yeah, yeah, the lioness. I think she is the goat, but the
- 1:01:49most she but under house is more popular than her.
- 1:01:53The lioness is number one. Number two.
- 1:01:55I like Shevchenko because of how clean she looks in there.
- 1:01:58She makes it looks easier as well. #3 I'll pull Jangali
- 1:02:04because she beats this. Girls like men against boys.
- 1:02:08I like toggles before. Around the Rousey will be 5th.
- 1:02:14Interesting. Yeah but woman MMA.
- 1:02:17Woman MMA is amazing man is amazing.
- 1:02:20However, I feel like the casual fans are not giving women the
- 1:02:25recognition they deserve. I feel like they they would
- 1:02:28rather see men fight. Hence why there is not too many
- 1:02:33paper views were the headliners are women.
- 1:02:35I can only count 2 paper views. The headliners are women in my
- 1:02:39head right now, and both of them had a Amanda Nunez on them, so
- 1:02:47that tells you a lot. Even the UFC don't put a lot
- 1:02:49because a lot, a lot of like pay-per-view with women
- 1:02:52headliners. But yeah, the women are doing
- 1:02:59amazing. However, it's not very fair when
- 1:03:02it comes to African women. African women are not closer to
- 1:03:08the rest of the world's skill wise like the men are, but I
- 1:03:13think the gap is closing in. If I'm going to give a big some
- 1:03:17shout out to some African girls, there's this girl called Julia
- 1:03:21Chuku. She Juliet Chuku, she's a
- 1:03:23Nigerian police officer. She's amazing.
- 1:03:27She, I think she's currently three and all in.
- 1:03:30I mean, she's on a three fight win streak.
- 1:03:32There's this girl called Juliet Uka.
- 1:03:35She's also a Nigerian girl. She's also a police officer.
- 1:03:39She recently fought in EFCC. She's on the yeah, she's four.
- 1:03:45And oh, I feel like the police officers, they have like this
- 1:03:48Taekwondo and kickboxing and boxing like sort of like team.
- 1:03:52And that's where these M people come from.
- 1:03:59There's this girl called Alexandra Takena.
- 1:04:01She is Algerian, Nigerian, But she fights.
- 1:04:05She's based in France. She fights in Rs.
- 1:04:07She's incredible, Incredible. I love her.
- 1:04:12There's this South African girl that is 4 and ohh as well.
- 1:04:15She's white. I can't just remember her name
- 1:04:17now. Zen something.
- 1:04:20Um, yeah, Shout out to her as well.
- 1:04:24Yeah. So yeah.
- 1:04:26OK, interesting. So what, what, what?
- 1:04:28What comment would you give on the feature of African fighters
- 1:04:31in general, like for the next 5 to 10 years?
- 1:04:34Yeah. So 20/24/2024, we are trying to
- 1:04:39put it to the next level. We are going to try it because
- 1:04:41since we started African fighters, we have not been
- 1:04:43making money with it, but we've been making money with avenues
- 1:04:46that come with it. Like for example, the work we do
- 1:04:49with AQ is because of African fighters and some other jobs are
- 1:04:52somewhere that cannot be disclosed.
- 1:04:54But like the brand itself to make money off like monetization
- 1:05:01from YouTube or well, already monetized on YouTube, we've got
- 1:05:04over 20,000 subscribers. But like social media, for
- 1:05:09example. Because something I noticed was
- 1:05:12when they were doing that Saudi show, Francis and Gandu versus
- 1:05:15Tyson Fury, those guys in Saudi were paying Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:20Blogs and meme social media teams and we missed out on that
- 1:05:25even though we are Africans. Right.
- 1:05:28So. So I thought we have to step up
- 1:05:32our game on social media so we don't get Mr We don't miss out
- 1:05:35on promoting events. So yeah, so 2024 we are going to
- 1:05:41put in a lot of work and also you guys put in your calendar I
- 1:05:47believe January 16, the African fighters are awards is coming.
- 1:05:50This time we're going to make a big if you would want to
- 1:05:53sponsor, please feel free to hop in our DMS and we can start
- 1:05:58having the conversations, because this one is going to be
- 1:06:00momentous. Interested.
- 1:06:03Interested. So don't worry.
- 1:06:04On behalf of The Kingdom Podcast, Right, our sponsor One
- 1:06:08category that's the King gives forecast world category, all
- 1:06:14that works. OK.
- 1:06:17OK. OK.
- 1:06:19Thank you very much. We, we, we, we have some
- 1:06:22packages. Thank you very much.
- 1:06:23This is amazing. This is amazing.
- 1:06:25We have some packages, but we did not do it per category.
- 1:06:31But for you we can we can do it like this no problem.
- 1:06:35Alright. Thank you very much.
- 1:06:36This is a very very this is, this is my this is the best news
- 1:06:40I've heard all day bro. All right.
- 1:06:42So let's see if any news will come this before the end of the
- 1:06:45week that will beat this one. But thank you very much.
- 1:06:47Really appreciate it. Of anything to support you know
- 1:06:52the movements and it's it's it's I'm really proud of what you
- 1:06:55guys are achieving, what you guys are doing right So and of
- 1:06:58course I'm proudly, proudly Africa.
- 1:07:01Yeah. Well, we, we really appreciate
- 1:07:03you as well. Just so you know we were having
- 1:07:05a conversation with Farouk about bringing you as one of the
- 1:07:07judges because there's some votes squad judges and you are
- 1:07:13part of the the panel. So I haven't told you yet.
- 1:07:16I was going to tell you and throw you in the group chat
- 1:07:18where where like because. Because we know that we know
- 1:07:24that the fans are very biassed. Like when if you do a category
- 1:07:28and if one of the fighters have like a big following and he
- 1:07:32reposts it, he might go and get enough voting even though he
- 1:07:36doesn't deserve it. But then when we have a judges
- 1:07:39panel and then the judges vote something else, then it's going
- 1:07:43to balance. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:46Well. So that's why we're putting
- 1:07:47together a panel and you are inside the panel and yeah, so
- 1:07:54and inside the panel we are trying to put in people that are
- 1:07:57like experienced from like all the realms of like South Africa.
- 1:08:02So maybe you can do some bit of networking as well in the.
- 1:08:05OK that that's interesting that's that's some really
- 1:08:08interesting stuff like that's a laudable actually to remarkable.
- 1:08:12Well great job guys. Big ups to you guys.
- 1:08:15I can see another question from my PA to you on this script.
- 1:08:21She says, OK, she's asking that what do you think about Kamaru
- 1:08:28Usman, that what are the odds of him retiring next year?
- 1:08:34You know, we had this chat yesterday with you.
- 1:08:36Yeah, you. We had this chat yesterday in
- 1:08:38the African Fighters Podcast. The episode that we did was bold
- 1:08:43predictions of 2024, and somewhere in there some people
- 1:08:46said Camaro's man is going to retire in 2024.
- 1:08:51The odds of him winning the title again, I honestly the odds
- 1:08:56is very low at this point. It's because you would have to
- 1:08:59create a path for him to win the title and we've we know how the
- 1:09:04sport work. He needs to win a fight first so
- 1:09:07let maybe if he wins a fight and they could just give him title
- 1:09:12title fight. If maybe a champion calls him
- 1:09:14out. For example Kobe Covington comes
- 1:09:16out and be like I want to fight Kamaru, Usman.
- 1:09:17If he beats Leon Edwards, which I don't see happening I don't
- 1:09:21see him beating Leon Edwards but it's going to be very very hard
- 1:09:24for Kamara to get back in there. But yeah, shout out to Kamara,
- 1:09:26please go make more money and pay us.
- 1:09:29OK. It's just the right like for the
- 1:09:34UFC 296 card coming up right at this weekend.
- 1:09:39So what are your predictions? Let's let's just take the main
- 1:09:42card, right? So what are your predictions for
- 1:09:44the main card? Main event?
- 1:09:46Leon Edwards versus Colby Covington.
- 1:09:48Who are you rooting? For OK I was going I was going
- 1:09:50to I was going to pull out the card here UFC 296 because you
- 1:09:55are saying alright main card. I'll start from the card opener
- 1:10:00then I will get to the top. So Vicente Luque versus Ian Gary
- 1:10:04Ian Gary is coming into this fight with with a lot of drama
- 1:10:07with regards to his wife and Sean Strickland and a lot of
- 1:10:10people on ma community bullying him.
- 1:10:13And I feel I feel for the poor guy and I want him to win just
- 1:10:17so he doesn't get in his head. I think he's capable of beating
- 1:10:21Vicente Luque. Vicente Luke has been in the UFC
- 1:10:24forever. He's one of those guys that has
- 1:10:26had over 20 fights in the UFC. He's a very, very good veteran.
- 1:10:30I think you and Gary can get it done with striking the next one.
- 1:10:34Tony Ferguson's versus Paddy Pimblett.
- 1:10:38Yeah, every MMA fan wants Tony Ferguson to win because of how
- 1:10:41many L's he has been taking recently.
- 1:10:43But regardless, I think the hype train of Paddy Pimblett will
- 1:10:47probably be a bit too much. But I actually do want to see
- 1:10:51Tony Ferguson win the next one. Shafqat Rakhmanov versus Stephen
- 1:10:55Thompson. A lot of people have say Shafqat
- 1:10:58is going to be a champion in the world right division because of
- 1:11:01how talented he is. He is from a country called
- 1:11:03Kyrgyzstan. Uh, a lot of kickers.
- 1:11:07Tanya in our chats, always whenever he fights till you
- 1:11:10stand. By the way, he's the same
- 1:11:11country that no, no, no, no Valentina Shevchenko.
- 1:11:18Yeah, she's. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:21Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:11:24Or is it from Cadiz, Kazakhstan? No, it's she's from Kyrgyzstan.
- 1:11:28And yeah, so I think, I think Chef Cards, this will be his
- 1:11:35biggest test. If he decides to grapple, then
- 1:11:39it wouldn't be nice for Steven Thompson.
- 1:11:41Steven Thompson always struggles with wrestlers, but if it's pure
- 1:11:45striking, still put him out. But I think Shafqat smart enough
- 1:11:48to take it down. So I think Shafqat takes this
- 1:11:50one. Next is flyweight title fight
- 1:11:53Alexandra Pantoja versus Brandon Ruba.
- 1:11:58Pantoja is Brazilian DOJA. All right, Brandon Rival.
- 1:12:09I don't know. I don't know how to call.
- 1:12:11This fight is very right in the middle for me and when it's hard
- 1:12:15to call, I'll just give the champion edge a I just give the
- 1:12:19Champions edge the the, the, the odd.
- 1:12:22I think. I think Pantoja wins next the
- 1:12:27main event. Leon Edwards versus Colby.
- 1:12:28Covington's not a fan of Leon Edwards for obvious reasons.
- 1:12:33Not a fan of Kobe Covington for obvious reasons.
- 1:12:35But when it comes to the two of them and more, I would rather
- 1:12:39have someone annoy me and entertain me than someone annoy
- 1:12:43me and not entertain me. So in in that sense, I'm leaning
- 1:12:47towards Kobe Covington. But I think Leon is too much for
- 1:12:49him. I think Kobe isn't tested
- 1:12:51enough. He has been off.
- 1:12:53He hasn't been fighting for a long time.
- 1:12:55That doesn't. I don't.
- 1:12:56I'm not questioning his will to fight and all that, but I think
- 1:12:59Kobe might get Leon is going to get done.
- 1:13:02So Leon wins this one. Interesting.
- 1:13:06OK, quick one. As a social As a social media
- 1:13:09manager and strategist, right. So what are the little tips you
- 1:13:12would give startup businesses for handling social media in
- 1:13:17order to succeed? Consistency, consistency,
- 1:13:20consistency. And don't be afraid to go and
- 1:13:23copy what other people are doing that is working for them.
- 1:13:26If you go to another page and see this is what they are doing,
- 1:13:29you can copy it. There is no memo.
- 1:13:32There's no menu on how to handle social media anyway you do.
- 1:13:35If it's working, then it's fine. You can go and pick what
- 1:13:38somebody is doing and don't forget to be looking at your
- 1:13:40stats. It's very, very important.
- 1:13:43See the time that people are watching or the times that when
- 1:13:46you post you get more eyes. Those things are very important.
- 1:13:50Little little details like that. And when you see something works
- 1:13:53for you, try that thing again. Try again, try again, try again
- 1:13:58and again. Don't be afraid to copy other
- 1:13:59people. Interesting.
- 1:14:02So start up business orders, you heard that from Jubilee menu,
- 1:14:06OK. So if you were to develop a new
- 1:14:07business, right, what are the basic steps you will take to
- 1:14:10achieve a successful one? Umm, first of all, I think you
- 1:14:16have to be passionate about it, right?
- 1:14:19For example, you cannot come and say, ah, I think photography is
- 1:14:24a good business. I want to start photography, but
- 1:14:27you're not passionate about it. How do you think you're going to
- 1:14:30go and learn and do it? You're just going to end up
- 1:14:33hating it even though if even if it becomes successful.
- 1:14:36So that thing that you want to do, live and breathe it.
- 1:14:40Make sure that the thing the in the forehead of your head, like
- 1:14:45everything you're doing when if you know that it's your thing
- 1:14:48when you go on YouTube and use, you refresh your homepage on
- 1:14:51YouTube and you see that the YouTube algorithm is always
- 1:14:53recommending things according to things that are in relation to
- 1:14:58that business. That means that you are actually
- 1:14:59doing a good job. That the algorithm is is a is
- 1:15:03recognising that. So yeah, make sure you are very,
- 1:15:08very passionate about it And again, don't.
- 1:15:12Sorry, what's the question again?
- 1:15:14What are the steps you recommend right to achieve success in
- 1:15:21business? Yeah.
- 1:15:22So, yes, steps. First of all, I told you this is
- 1:15:26not a step. It's just something that we
- 1:15:28would use to fuel doing whatever business this is guys.
- 1:15:33You have to be passionate about it and then next again, don't be
- 1:15:37afraid to copy. So basically what you have to do
- 1:15:40now is you are going to go and do research.
- 1:15:43Research people in that field, what people are doing.
- 1:15:45Even if you see that that thing is not happening in Nigeria, go
- 1:15:49and look at the ones that Americans are doing.
- 1:15:51Go and look at the one that the British people are doing.
- 1:15:53You understand. For example, you want to open a
- 1:15:57podcast studio in Abuja. All right.
- 1:16:03There's no podcast studio in Abuja.
- 1:16:06OK, So what you do is go online. Go find Podcast Studio in
- 1:16:13London. Go find Podcast Studio in San
- 1:16:15Francisco. Go and look within the they do.
- 1:16:18Enter their website, look at the services that they provide.
- 1:16:22Look at the cost of the services that they provide.
- 1:16:24Look at the things that they have.
- 1:16:27Then you go and look at the start researching the
- 1:16:29instruments that you use, the tools, the finances and all
- 1:16:32that. So again, don't be afraid to
- 1:16:35copy. Go and always study people that
- 1:16:38are already in that line of business and consistency is key
- 1:16:42or lie. If you are consistent with it
- 1:16:46and you are doing it smartly, you are doing it right.
- 1:16:49Smartly. You, you, you will, you will
- 1:16:51succeed in Shallah. Thank you very much, Sir.
- 1:16:56So what is the best documentary you have created thus far?
- 1:16:59And, you know, tell us a little bit about it.
- 1:17:03The best documentary I've made has not been seen by anybody, so
- 1:17:09those founding. Lost twice the keyword.
- 1:17:13It's not going. I don't think anybody will see
- 1:17:15it, to be honest. I've already grown past it, So
- 1:17:17what it's about is umm in 20, 2018 OK?
- 1:17:27I think when I came back to do my NYC, the Sokoto state
- 1:17:31government, where no, no, not just talked to state government,
- 1:17:35it's Fadama. So there's this agency in
- 1:17:39agriculture in Nigeria that was meant to hand out a loan to
- 1:17:44farmers. So they'll give you money loan
- 1:17:46and then they will give you equipment.
- 1:17:49So the farmers are like rice farmers, right?
- 1:17:51So they'll give you electric generator to pump water, the
- 1:17:56irrigation system that will give you fertilisers and then they
- 1:18:00will give you seeds as well to plant.
- 1:18:02The only thing you have to do is show them a plot of land and say
- 1:18:06this is my farm and you're going to do, they'll give you this
- 1:18:09tools and they will give you also money to help you do that.
- 1:18:13The only thing you have to do is when you harvest, a percentage
- 1:18:16of the harvest is going to be taken by the government and then
- 1:18:20you're going to sell or use the other percentage that you get,
- 1:18:23you get from it. So that's the system, that's
- 1:18:25where it's supposed to be. But then every state we're doing
- 1:18:28it fine. But when you go to our state,
- 1:18:31the government decided to scam the farmers by the connived with
- 1:18:35the banks. Where the banks would send
- 1:18:38transaction alerts to the debit, they will send transaction
- 1:18:42alerts to the farmers and then and then take the money back.
- 1:18:48Do you understand? They will get your credit alert
- 1:18:50and then the bank would debit the money.
- 1:18:54So farmers were seeing that. So my dad, after he retired from
- 1:18:59the Air Force, he was also, he's also into farming.
- 1:19:01So he also had that situation, but then so when I met him, he
- 1:19:08was like, ohh, he's not going to let this rest.
- 1:19:10So he sent letters to the CBN to the bank.
- 1:19:15I think it was unity bank or I can't remember, I don't know,
- 1:19:18FCMB can't remember what bank exactly, don't want to.
- 1:19:21So in Sokoto. So he sent letters to them to
- 1:19:24hear their part like why would you send money to people and
- 1:19:28then take it away. So I compiled all those
- 1:19:31evidences of their responses and then I went and I interviewed
- 1:19:35some farmers regarding the situation and to hear from them
- 1:19:41what happened with the money. So I did that.
- 1:19:45I did some voiceover. I did everything.
- 1:19:48Maybe they made a very compelling documentary.
- 1:19:50If you watch it, it was very nice.
- 1:19:52That's like my that's the one that I was like.
- 1:19:54I also interviewed my dad. My dad was also in the
- 1:19:56documentary, so when I finish the documentary.
- 1:20:02I went to China and I swear I was.
- 1:20:07I wanted to go give it to CCTV. CCTV is like the Chinese news
- 1:20:12broadcasting, but they don't want to carry propaganda because
- 1:20:15they in their head is propaganda.
- 1:20:19The other choice I had was just to upload it and just make it
- 1:20:23public. It's like, you know what?
- 1:20:26My dad at that point was doing all right for himself.
- 1:20:29It's like, ohh, I just keep this thing.
- 1:20:33I haven't really. I haven't really looked at it
- 1:20:35since then, but regarding documentary, that is my best
- 1:20:39piece so far I think if I watch it again.
- 1:20:42They're personal. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:44So that's where. I would want to edit it again.
- 1:20:47Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's it's very, very unfair what
- 1:20:50the government and people are going back home.
- 1:20:53It's very, very unfair, very, very unfair.
- 1:20:55So, like, you know, when the COVID palliative thing happened.
- 1:21:00Hmm. I wasn't.
- 1:21:02I was. I was.
- 1:21:04I wasn't surprised because that's exactly what they did to
- 1:21:07farmers, just local farmers. They will not give them what
- 1:21:10they say they are going to give them.
- 1:21:13It's it's, it's sad one. Yeah.
- 1:21:16So that was the type of that was that.
- 1:21:17That was the type of documentary filmmaking that was really,
- 1:21:20really passionate. And like, I wanted to be telling
- 1:21:22real stories. I didn't want to be making
- 1:21:24movies, yes, I didn't want to be making movies.
- 1:21:27But it's dangerous to do that in Nigeria because if you are a
- 1:21:31whistleblower like that, they'll come for your life and the.
- 1:21:34Love is he. I think something similar is
- 1:21:38happening with this guy, David Kundang, with the way he exposes
- 1:21:43people in government. I think that guy is at risk.
- 1:21:47It's a very, very big risk, but I wish you all the best.
- 1:21:52OK? What's that one thing you feel
- 1:21:54like? Africans would do?
- 1:21:56Really great arts internationally if they ventured
- 1:21:59more into it. You know, I think this is the
- 1:22:08whole topic I don't want to get into because it hurts me when I
- 1:22:12see this. It hurts me when I see this.
- 1:22:15No, no. Are we talking about what we
- 1:22:18could be? Good.
- 1:22:19Because me, I'm. I'm, I'm not.
- 1:22:20I'm not looking at it from an African point of view.
- 1:22:22I'm looking at it from a Nigerian point of view.
- 1:22:24So yeah, so I'm passionate about, I'm.
- 1:22:28I'm passionate about sports, I'm passionate about football,
- 1:22:30soccer to America. And we all know the bunch of
- 1:22:35talents that come from Nigeria. So it hurts my soul when I see
- 1:22:40the state of our local leagues, when I see the conditions that
- 1:22:44players playing. And when I see the money that we
- 1:22:48are missing, that we are losing in sports just because of some
- 1:22:52greedy bastards in government that would not use money
- 1:22:57properly to get the sports attracted for people to watch,
- 1:23:01we understand that. We understand that any player,
- 1:23:04football, the biggest place of football is out here in the UK
- 1:23:07and Europe. But regardless, Brazil, their
- 1:23:11local league in Brazil is crazy good.
- 1:23:13It's generating a lot of revenue.
- 1:23:15But Nigeria, we cannot generate revenue because people are being
- 1:23:19greedy. It's very, very annoying.
- 1:23:21I don't want to get into it, but it hurts me a lot when I see it.
- 1:23:26One thing that pains me the most is like basketball.
- 1:23:31There's a lot. There's this thing called MBF
- 1:23:33that's Nigerian Basketball Federation.
- 1:23:35It's super super, super corrupt. Like do you know that for the
- 1:23:42past five years before now the the league basketball league
- 1:23:47wasn't going on in Nigeria because they've created factions
- 1:23:50and they were in court. This guy says the president of
- 1:23:52basketball. This guy says the president of
- 1:23:54basketball now the league cannot function cause fever.
- 1:23:56Suspended them we have. Nigeria has the most talent of
- 1:24:01basketballers in the NBA, but all these NBA players and
- 1:24:05Nigerians based in the US that means that we have it in our
- 1:24:08DNA. We can do it, but we cannot.
- 1:24:11I don't want to start talking about basketball because the
- 1:24:13most popular sports in Nigeria is football and they cannot get
- 1:24:16that correct. Well, why would they get
- 1:24:18basketball correct So. So they cannot get football
- 1:24:22correct. It's it's sports, bro.
- 1:24:27If sports is being invested, if we invest in sports, we are
- 1:24:30going to generate a lot of money in Nigeria and in Africa as
- 1:24:35well. But yeah, there's a lot of
- 1:24:38talent out there that needs that.
- 1:24:39That is just wasting bro. I I really hope, I'm hopeful
- 1:24:44that we do get it right someday, because it will protect us, you
- 1:24:48know? The bastards.
- 1:24:51There, there's a lot of potential in that hope we get.
- 1:24:54And of course, you know, we can empower people unless we empower
- 1:24:58ourselves. So we're still on that journey
- 1:24:59of empowering itself so that you know we can empower people back
- 1:25:02home. We hope for great things
- 1:25:05anyways. So how do you actually balance
- 1:25:08your numerous careers with your personal and your family?
- 1:25:11Life, right? How How do you achieve that work
- 1:25:14life? Sorry.
- 1:25:16Can you ask the question again? So how, how do you achieve work
- 1:25:20life balance, you know, balancing family commitments,
- 1:25:22you know, with your numerous endeavours?
- 1:25:25I I still haven't balanced it. I still.
- 1:25:28I still have. The balance you figure it.
- 1:25:33Out we just we're just taking it one step at a time man.
- 1:25:37Cause like recently at work, because I obviously have to
- 1:25:40work, I work in in it. The that in during the pandemic
- 1:25:47we're working for. We're working from home and now
- 1:25:49they are mandating us to come into the office three times a
- 1:25:51week which has scattered everything for me.
- 1:25:55But I swear I don't have a correct answer because I'm still
- 1:26:01learning to get this work life balance situation sorted out.
- 1:26:05I'm still a mess every see every weekend.
- 1:26:09Like it's really hard for me to meet my friends now because like
- 1:26:12every weekend coming I already have something to do you
- 1:26:14understand? So when there's when there's an
- 1:26:16empty slot when I'm sitting down not doing anything like I have
- 1:26:19to do something has to be something to be done.
- 1:26:21Because when you go to the office it takes forever to get
- 1:26:24done. Then you've got a family, and
- 1:26:25then it's it's crazy. And then you've got this hobby
- 1:26:29and then this African fighters and then all the other things
- 1:26:32you do. It's it's not easy.
- 1:26:34It's not easy. You, you, you have a PA.
- 1:26:36It's working out for you, Abby. Yeah, you know, segregation of
- 1:26:41duties, delegation of duties. You know, sometimes you just
- 1:26:44need to realise that there are certain things that you spend a
- 1:26:49lot of time doing, ordinary right.
- 1:26:51You can train somebody to get those things done right.
- 1:26:55And of course you're empowering another person and you're still
- 1:26:59building them up as well. So that's something I I learned
- 1:27:03from my profession. You know, I'm an auditor in into
- 1:27:08finance. So a lot of times in finance,
- 1:27:10right as you grow up of the chain in in your workplace, a
- 1:27:16lot of less technical duties are being delegated to your less
- 1:27:22experienced team members. And having those people do those
- 1:27:25things actually helps them build their own skill sets and their
- 1:27:27competences and also helps, you know, achieve efficiency.
- 1:27:33So I think that that's something to be considered that, you know,
- 1:27:37something that can help, you know, it's a win, win for
- 1:27:39everybody. So enemy, right?
- 1:27:44Like, what are your hobbies and interests?
- 1:27:48Yeah, we we know you're heavily invested in sports, right?
- 1:27:52So then what other hobbies and interests that you have?
- 1:27:55Some some hobbies I don't get to do anymore because when drones
- 1:27:59came out I was a very very big throne nerd crashed more drones
- 1:28:03that I can't remember. Actually I can't remember.
- 1:28:04I only crashed 2 drones like I was always like buying the new
- 1:28:11tech that come, the new drone that comes out because I was
- 1:28:14into those things. But moving here, I don't have
- 1:28:18time for that anymore. If you want to fly a drone here,
- 1:28:22everywhere is near no fly zone, so you can, so you can't.
- 1:28:26But like, that was something I really, really enjoyed doing.
- 1:28:29I really, really enjoyed taking candid pictures, going to
- 1:28:32events. When I was in uni I was getting
- 1:28:34paid to do that and I really, really loved it.
- 1:28:36I don't like taking pictures of, like people posing.
- 1:28:39I like taking candid pictures of people in events when they don't
- 1:28:42know I'll just be in one corner, put my zoom lens, I'll be taking
- 1:28:45pictures of people. I love, love doing that.
- 1:28:48I don't know. I don't know how to go about
- 1:28:50about it here because this country, everybody is entering
- 1:28:54my private life for private security.
- 1:28:56So I don't. Want to?
- 1:28:59Yeah, I don't want that drama. I don't want that drama.
- 1:29:02So that hobby cannot work. But like somewhere else, like in
- 1:29:05Nigeria or in China, you can just go around and be taking
- 1:29:07pictures of people they don't mind.
- 1:29:09Well here. So that was something I like
- 1:29:12doing that I can't that I can't do.
- 1:29:16Interesting. So so what's your advice for the
- 1:29:19younger generation in order for them to achieve success in life
- 1:29:22or it's what's your be a big? Don't be too quick.
- 1:29:27Don't be too quick, guys. Don't be too quick.
- 1:29:29Don't be everybody. Nobody say you must make money.
- 1:29:32Now, now, now, now, now. Calm down.
- 1:29:35That's the advice. Because if you are too quick,
- 1:29:37you end up doing Yahoo or doing cultism or doing something
- 1:29:40foolish. So don't be too quick.
- 1:29:44Patience, patience and just work hard, man.
- 1:29:47OK, interesting. OK.
- 1:29:49So finally we get to the question from the previous
- 1:29:53guest, the traditional. So question from the previous
- 1:29:56guest, what attributes do you think is more important in terms
- 1:30:00of self defence, skill or? Strength.
- 1:30:03Yeah, that is it what I'm asking you.
- 1:30:09I'm asking. That's why you sex dropped into
- 1:30:13a you know. Me ohh yeah ohh yeah questions.
- 1:30:17So what attribute do you think is more important in terms of
- 1:30:20self defence, skill or strength? I think self defence.
- 1:30:27I think Masque not strain, cause strength.
- 1:30:31We've seen it so many many times.
- 1:30:33People that are skillful always. David will always be Goliath, so
- 1:30:37I think it's skill. I'm not, I'm not skilled at all.
- 1:30:40I have zero skill. I don't know how to throw a
- 1:30:42right hook. So so.
- 1:30:45All of the videos here Lifetime. I see those.
- 1:30:49Cute. Ohh God, you yourself, you
- 1:30:52yourself. Can you do a Roundhouse kick?
- 1:30:55I'm skilled. I'm skilled, bro.
- 1:30:58I do I training. Ohh, you do your training now,
- 1:31:02don't wait it on top. Don't worry, I signed up to the
- 1:31:08CPI. Ohh, yeah.
- 1:31:10Ohh, yeah. Ohh, yeah, yeah, I And they go
- 1:31:13with skill, man. And they go with skill.
- 1:31:15Yeah. And what question would you
- 1:31:17leave for the next guest? Who is the next guest?
- 1:31:21Not determined yet, OK. Alright, so question for the
- 1:31:26next guest. Hmm.
- 1:31:33OK. You want to make something deep.
- 1:31:37There's no deep, it's just an entertaining question, like an
- 1:31:41ice breaker situation. So I was I saw a tweet recently
- 1:31:49where someone is talking about every vampire movie.
- 1:31:55All the vampires have been in alive for like 100 or 200 years
- 1:32:00are always rich and someone was like if you spend 200 years in
- 1:32:04this world you if you are not, if you are not rich then you you
- 1:32:08got something wrong right? But then my question is, if you
- 1:32:15are granted he will not be, you will not age like a vampire 200
- 1:32:21years. What is it that you will do that
- 1:32:24will make you successful, that will make you rich?
- 1:32:26What will you do? They'll make you rich right now.
- 1:32:30Right now they've confirmed to you, Demola, 200 years you will
- 1:32:34do in this life like this as a young boy.
- 1:32:39What is it that you will do that will make you rich in your 100?
- 1:32:46Yeah, 100 OHH, you don't want to get reaching in year one, year
- 1:32:50two, year 3. You know, but what is it that
- 1:32:53you will do that you be like mega mega rich that you see in
- 1:32:57the movies the vampires are because like like like like in
- 1:33:01the past, no, but like in the past, in the past now.
- 1:33:06Now money is online. Go in the past they could just
- 1:33:09go and be robbing people. People with.
- 1:33:11They carry their goals, they come, they go collect and gather
- 1:33:14and then they have fortune. But now, how are you going to
- 1:33:18make money? Let's assume you even have the
- 1:33:22power itself, the vampire power. How you could make the money?
- 1:33:26How do I make? You go hold pressing for Nextel
- 1:33:28and say transfer money to me. No, I don't have to commit crime
- 1:33:32to make the money right. So how would you, how would you
- 1:33:36make money? So that is my question to your
- 1:33:38next guest. You've been granted immunity 200
- 1:33:40years in this life. How will you make money?
- 1:33:42How will you be filthy rich at your 100?
- 1:33:46Interesting, interesting. The the next guest has their
- 1:33:49work cut out for them. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:52Wow. Well, thank you very much.
