- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts. Right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the three O take presented by Chinook Cedry this
- 0:18episode 575. I'll be your host Kyle Korne.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:26Nate. That the look you're giving me
- 0:35right now, it could mean so many things and I'm I'm very excited
- 0:39to dive into what it actually does mean.
- 0:43Or maybe it means nothing and you're just just had a long day.
- 0:48Maybe that's all it is. Or maybe it's a combination of
- 0:51both? All the above.
- 0:54All the above. D All the above.
- 0:57Yeah, which is always the choice, by the way.
- 1:00If it's there, you have to take it.
- 1:02Right. Come on, have you ever think
- 1:05about it in any test scenario? Have you ever encountered in all
- 1:10of the above and it wasn't all of the above?
- 1:14Genuinely asking, Think hard on that.
- 1:16In fact, you probably don't need to think too hard on it, because
- 1:19I think the answer is pretty obvious.
- 1:21Unless they hit you with AD all the above and then an E, none of
- 1:26the. Above none of the above.
- 1:27Well, that's a flip of the coin I got.
- 1:30It really. Actually, sometimes that's
- 1:33usually when it's like B, It's like, oh.
- 1:35Yeah, yeah. Weird.
- 1:37It's 32. How did I get 129 anyway?
- 1:45How did we get here? Speaking of, how did we get
- 1:49there or here this this day of baseball, I'm thinking of one
- 1:58game in particular that's really sticking out to me.
- 2:01And boy, did I'm glad we waited to record tonight.
- 2:05For those wondering like, oh, like, where was the Thursday
- 2:07drop or no, yeah, where was the Thursday morning drop?
- 2:12Wow, With the way that this division, these division series
- 2:18have played out like, ah, let's just kick it to Thursday night,
- 2:21buy us another day, see if we can get some more tickets
- 2:23punched. We did.
- 2:28And boy, was a ticket punched. I don't know that I necessarily
- 2:33want to start there, though. Let's go back.
- 2:38Let's let's just go chronologically here.
- 2:41Sure. No, honestly.
- 2:45And you can thank you can thank Orion Kirk Green.
- 2:52Not that I'm putting blame on him, but you can thank the
- 2:55ending to that Phillies Dodgers game.
- 2:58No stop. You can thank the ending of that
- 3:01Phillies Dodgers game for defusing any any real emotion
- 3:08that I was going to bring to this conversation about the
- 3:13Yankees and Blue Jays. So you're a.
- 3:17Proud mother over there. You're off the hook.
- 3:22You're off the hook. I, to be quite honest with you,
- 3:26the fact that we didn't do it right after the game last night,
- 3:29I, I kind of slept on it. I woke up and I was like kind of
- 3:33kind of fizzled out, truth be told.
- 3:34And I feel like it's probably the same with you not having to
- 3:37record after your team gets, you know, bounced.
- 3:41We did have the we, we had the dialogue.
- 3:44We said that if the Dodgers won, we would have because that would
- 3:47have been 2 tickets punched, right?
- 3:49Yeah. But the Phillies won, so.
- 3:52Phillies. Appreciate the Phillies on that,
- 3:54honestly, personally. That's what I'm saying a lot of
- 3:57a lot of thanks to be given here.
- 3:58On a personal level, thank you, Phillies.
- 4:00Yeah. So now, I mean, it's, it's sort
- 4:02of a disservice though, because you don't get the raw emotion
- 4:06from Nate. I'm sure it'll it'll, we're
- 4:09here. We'll get it going a little bit.
- 4:11Cheers. But let's let's let let's start
- 4:16there. Blue Jays Yanks Game 3.
- 4:22It's really where this conversation starts.
- 4:24Aaron Judge signature playoff moment.
- 4:28It's about time. I mean, come Nate, come on,
- 4:35you're shaking your. I'm not going to take the bait.
- 4:37No, no, no. Come on.
- 4:39You're shaking your head, but you got it.
- 4:41Like meet me in the middle here. Like, come on.
- 4:45What? What was there before that?
- 4:50As far as a moment goes. Signature moment for a Signature
- 4:54player playing for a Signature franchise.
- 4:56What was it before that? And I'm not necessarily looking
- 5:01for, I'm not, I'm not even looking for an answer.
- 5:04But the fact that you or anybody else that hears me ask that
- 5:08question, the fact that you have to think about it.
- 5:11No, I'm not. I'm not saying it's not.
- 5:13Something. I'm not saying it's unfair, I'm
- 5:15not saying it's unfair, but whatever.
- 5:19Game time three run Homer to notch it at what was it 6 in
- 5:24game three against the Jays I. Mean.
- 5:28Proved to be the boost the Yanks needed to push it one more day,
- 5:31but. 100 Oh, my hands was insane, I think.
- 5:39I think the difficulty of the pitch made it that much sweeter.
- 5:45You know, like it was 8 inches inside at 100.
- 5:52It was nuts. Who's even on the bump?
- 5:56I'm already I'm already drawn a blank.
- 5:59The What's his face? Who started Game 4?
- 6:04Opened for Game 4. Forget his name.
- 6:11Who's that reliever? Drawn a blank.
- 6:15Varland. Varland.
- 6:16Oh, Louis Varland. Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 6:19Yeah. 100 boring in on his hands.
- 6:22It was a big moment. It was good.
- 6:26Pretty cool off the foul pole. I was stoked when it happened.
- 6:30I was pretty checked out. I won't say checked out.
- 6:33I turned the volume down when it was like 6-1 and I was like, I'm
- 6:39just. I don't have like the I don't
- 6:42have like my heart can't take any more of Joe Davis getting
- 6:47excited about more Blue Jays positive things.
- 6:51So I was like, I'm just going to turn the volume down a little.
- 6:53And Johnson also is pissing me off.
- 6:55So I turned it down a little bit.
- 6:57And then like it started like the as they started to creep
- 7:00back into it, like the volume got like like a little higher.
- 7:06And then when he hit it, it was sick.
- 7:10I froze. And then I turned the volume up.
- 7:12I was jumping. It's cool.
- 7:14I mean, let's not act like Fox Sports is rooting for the
- 7:17Toronto Blue Jays in this scenario.
- 7:18No, no, no, I just no, I'm not saying that in any way.
- 7:21I'm just saying I Jon Smoltz gets under my under my skin all
- 7:25the time. But I Joe Davis does a good job.
- 7:29I just, I don't like hearing him get that excited.
- 7:33It's so odd. And this was a very good
- 7:37argument that I saw on social media today.
- 7:40And honestly, it's probably being talked about every year.
- 7:44But like I, I do wish that you could listen to I I wish we had
- 7:49a broadcast with our normal crew.
- 7:51You know, we spent our entire year listening to our crew that
- 7:55knows our team, that knows the nuances of situations of
- 7:59players. They can tie into a full season
- 8:02of context. And then you have you have guys
- 8:06that come in and and don't get me wrong, I think Joe Davis does
- 8:09a good job. I think John Smoltz does a good
- 8:12job at times. But like they're not tapped in
- 8:17the whole time. So like when they say stuff it
- 8:20like us fans know better in certain scenarios.
- 8:23So that's all I meant. But yeah, sick, sick moment.
- 8:29Really cool. Honestly, the only negative
- 8:32thing I can say about is Marlins Man sitting in the in the first
- 8:36row. Everyone's standing up with
- 8:39their hands in the air in the in the freeze frame of it.
- 8:43That idiot's just sitting there, bright orange, like just ruining
- 8:48a moment in history. But thanks.
- 8:50The Marlin the Marlins Man run has has run its course.
- 8:55I do believe. However, I will say I I have to
- 9:00think that when we're like 80, there is something.
- 9:06Something you remember that way. Yeah, like we're going to be,
- 9:08we're going to be flipping through.
- 9:09I mean, if they even have books when ready, who knows?
- 9:11They're going to be like flipping through books,
- 9:13watching, watching. Paper.
- 9:16Watching highlights and the kid, the the kids are going to be
- 9:20like this is stupid. What is this?
- 9:23And then we're going to get like old man defensive like you do or
- 9:26like old men do. We find ourselves defending
- 9:29Marlins Man and. We're going to be like, hey, you
- 9:32won't even know. Let sit sit down here on Pop
- 9:35Pop's lap and let me tell you about the lore of Marlins Man I.
- 9:38Told you he's a prick, right? I met him.
- 9:42Yeah. I met him at Yankee Stadium.
- 9:45I don't remember. It was the 2017 or 2018 run.
- 9:51I whenever, whenever Jeter stepped in for the Marlins and
- 9:57like, I didn't know about the beef when I met him and I was
- 9:59like, let me go take a picture with him.
- 10:00I think I can. I still have the picture.
- 10:03I was like, I'm going to go take a picture with him.
- 10:04And then when I was standing there asked and I was like, So
- 10:06what do you think of Jeter down there?
- 10:08And he goes, guy didn't even graduate college and has like AC
- 10:16average in high school. Why is he owning a sports team?
- 10:19And I was like, thanks, take care.
- 10:21I'm not getting into this with you, loser.
- 10:26Anyway, yeah, game three. Good, good game, Exciting game.
- 10:31Pretty pretty neat. Sorry, I was just looking for
- 10:34this tweet where he was like clapping back on Twitter some.
- 10:36I think somebody was like, this guy's a loser and he tweeted a
- 10:39picture like from his view from behind home plate.
- 10:42And he was like, I know or something.
- 10:44I don't know. He's just having fun with it,
- 10:47but. I do want to know where the
- 10:48money comes from. That's what I don't know, like
- 10:51for this long, dude, this this has been a historic run.
- 10:54Just yeah, in terms of events he's been at.
- 10:59Enough. Enough is enough.
- 11:01Enough is enough. But yeah, not to not to take
- 11:04away from from the Blue Jays, obviously Blue Jays did what
- 11:07they had to do. Vladdy Guerrero, Yankee killer,
- 11:11even contributing in Game 4, even though it was not, even
- 11:15though he didn't go deep, which I think at this point, at that
- 11:18point in the series, you're just sort of, Yep, there he is.
- 11:22There's, there's Marlins Man. Stupid Continue.
- 11:30Wait, in Game 4, you kind of you, you kind of had the
- 11:34expectation, like he could literally. 2019, Yep.
- 11:39The Yankees proved that they were not smart enough to just
- 11:42put them. On I don't understand.
- 11:44There's like, why do they keep pitching to let's keep pitching
- 11:47to them? So you have the expectation that
- 11:48like any one of these at bats could be going over the fence.
- 11:52But like I said, even though he didn't do that in Game Four, he
- 11:54still contributed with a run or with an RBI.
- 11:57Excuse me? And the Yankees did what they
- 12:00had to do. It was definitely A2 strike
- 12:03count. I don't think it was full.
- 12:04I think it was like O2 or 1/2 and it was like a cutter way off
- 12:08the plate. And you can tell when that
- 12:11dude's just like super locked in because he that's the aspect of
- 12:16his dad that he has in his game is the plate coverage.
- 12:19And he can still find a way to get a barrel on a ball.
- 12:22And he just smoked this ball to right field that was well off
- 12:26the plate. And you're just like, stop,
- 12:28Like, stop putting this anywhere near him.
- 12:30Put up four fingers. And it was a man on second,
- 12:34first base open. I don't understand.
- 12:39How about, how about Boone's response?
- 12:43I mean. I didn't.
- 12:46I have no I haven't watched any post game interviews quote.
- 12:53I haven't seen any quotes. I haven't seen anything so so
- 12:56after the game you're about to read off.
- 12:57I have, it's new for me. After the So let me preface it
- 13:01by saying I like, I, I understand why he would respond
- 13:04this way, but I guess just the timing of it was interesting or
- 13:09I don't know, maybe it was the tone in which he was, I don't
- 13:11know. There's just something about it
- 13:12where I'm like that kind of, I don't know if that's going to
- 13:15sit well with people, but they said, do you, I'm paraphrasing,
- 13:19but they're basically just like, do you expect to be back as man,
- 13:23as manager next year? And he was like, yeah, I mean,
- 13:26I'm under contract. It's like Boone, you know, we
- 13:30know that's not what what's being asked here.
- 13:33The question, Sir, that's that like, yes, you, you answered it
- 13:36quite literally, but that's not what's being asked here.
- 13:39But anyway, I thought that was funny.
- 13:42But again, the Jays won the series, so I, I, I don't want to
- 13:47lose sight of that. I the Yankees.
- 13:49Couldn't hang. It's that's.
- 13:51It's just plain and simple. They couldn't hang.
- 13:53And I said it before, I said it on our last, last pod.
- 13:58I said at this point, let's get weird.
- 14:01Give me a what did I say? Brewers, Blue Jays, World
- 14:03Series. I'm so in at this point.
- 14:11I'm not like I'm not actively pulling for the Jays, but I
- 14:15just, I'm, I'm thinking of it through the lens of of potential
- 14:19entertainment and I just, I feel like there's something special
- 14:22happening with this Jays team right now.
- 14:24And watching these game, watching their games at home has
- 14:27been very, very fun. Here's here's the here's why.
- 14:32It's because they play the baseball that we grew up playing
- 14:36and learning. It's not, it's not even a style.
- 14:42They play baseball. Most of these other teams don't
- 14:47play, especially the Yankees. It's the true 33 outcome BS that
- 14:54we're just, it's horrendous. We're numb.
- 14:58To at this point. It's not baseball.
- 15:00It's not. It's hard to watch, dude.
- 15:03And what's refreshing about the Blue Jays?
- 15:06What's refreshing about the Brewers is that they can they
- 15:10can play a complete game. They cover all aspects.
- 15:15They don't strike out. There's value in putting the
- 15:18ball in play. And we saw it in Game 4 where
- 15:21it's a routine one hop to Jazz Chisholm that should have ended
- 15:24the inning with a double play and it clanks off of his heel,
- 15:27goes into center field and they I think they get two runs that
- 15:30inning and it kind of just seemed to snowball from there.
- 15:34It's we'll get into it later, but it's putting the ball in
- 15:38play with bases loaded. Never know.
- 15:43And and the Phillies are going home because of it, right?
- 15:46That's the way baseball needs to be played.
- 15:50It can't just be a swing all the time.
- 15:52It can't just be one through 9. You guys all have the same
- 15:56identity. It's exhausting and and the
- 16:00Yankees, what I don't think they're alone in this, but
- 16:04they're absolutely proud of of their game plan and the way they
- 16:09go about it. Guess what, It's not working.
- 16:12This isn't working. The boom era, the front office,
- 16:16this philosophy. And I don't want to just slap
- 16:19like analytics across it. It's the reality that like
- 16:23they've somehow flip-flopped in developing pitchers properly,
- 16:27but they don't know how to develop hitters.
- 16:29And the only reason Judge has found the success that he has is
- 16:34because he went and found his own hitting coach and he left.
- 16:38Whatever philosophy is being taught there, it it doesn't make
- 16:42any sense. And it's it's quite literally by
- 16:47definition, insanity because they just rinse and repeat and
- 16:51they gaslight all of us fans saying that this is going to be
- 16:56different. And Anthony Volpe is probably
- 16:59going to be the opening day shortstop next year and Aaron
- 17:03Boone's going to be at the helm. Because it's just what happens
- 17:07over and over and over. And the only positive thing I
- 17:11can look at it say, well, hey, at least Garrett Cole's coming
- 17:14back and whatever, man, Brutal. I wanted on record that I tried
- 17:24bringing this back to the team that's moving on multiple times.
- 17:29No, I know. But to be fair, I no, no, no,
- 17:31that's what I was going to say. I know that's, that's what I was
- 17:33going to say. To be fair, you you needed your.
- 17:36You need the floor. What did I say a month ago?
- 17:38I said I was ready to get my heart broken again because they
- 17:41started to get hot. They started to try and chase
- 17:43down the Blue Jays in the division and it started to get
- 17:46close and like, yeah, let's let's do it again.
- 17:49Let me sign up. Let me sign up again.
- 17:51We all get our heart broken. 29 fan bases get their hearts
- 17:56broken this time of year. That's what people like we're we
- 17:59like to pretend like that's not the case like oh your team, how
- 18:03far did your team make it? Nobody cares how far your team
- 18:06made it unless you won the last game of the season.
- 18:10We're all losers except one team and that's the team that wins
- 18:13the whole thing. The.
- 18:15Problem is the hope, the aspect of hope.
- 18:21Well, some of us. Lost hope In July, some of us
- 18:25lost hope before first pitch of Opening Day.
- 18:29Some of us, some of us have never experienced hope.
- 18:33It's the ones that have that late disguising hope,
- 18:42mischievous hope where the real sickos I think.
- 18:48I it we're we're past due to get some sort of sicko merch.
- 18:53I think so too. We need it. 162 sicko.
- 19:00I like that. I'm down, I'm down.
- 19:08Talking about hope, you know, a team that has no hope now
- 19:11because they are going home. Philadelphia Phillies.
- 19:15Let's talk about it. We don't.
- 19:17Look, we can sit here and talk about game three.
- 19:19Yeah, the Phillies came out swinging well even before that.
- 19:23The the IT. Was tight for a bit.
- 19:27That game wasn't. It yeah, but not for long.
- 19:31And when I say that, I mean like, yeah, it was tight, but
- 19:34then it it snowballed very quickly.
- 19:37Like through 3 or 4? Yeah.
- 19:40But even before that, the whole the which this is the kind of
- 19:44news or like the, the news that intrigues me this time of year.
- 19:47I'm like, I I don't care about analytics.
- 19:51Give me, give me, give me the news on the Mojo.
- 19:54What what are we, how are we Like, what are the news and
- 19:57updates as it relates to the Mojo?
- 20:00And when I saw the update about the powder Blues that they were
- 20:03bringing out to LA, I'm like, I like this.
- 20:07I really like this they had. The special request, right?
- 20:11Yeah, I was going to say they had to, they had to ask Major
- 20:13League Baseball that if they could replace their Rd.
- 20:17Graze. And I was like, oh, this could
- 20:21be something it ended up not, but I was like, this could be
- 20:25one of those weird things that I always like to talk about where
- 20:28it's just, it's insignificant, inconsequential, but it's a
- 20:33thing that you can kind of rally behind.
- 20:36And they said, we're only bringing the powder Blues.
- 20:40We're not taking another uniform with us and we're coming back.
- 20:42This is basically the message. It was, you know, that that came
- 20:45from that. But as I mentioned, not to be.
- 20:48So we really don't need to talk about game three.
- 20:50I mean, yeah, like I said, they, they they put up an 8 spot.
- 20:53I'll, I'll, I'll put my hand up. I was talking.
- 20:56I was talking noise on Aaron Nola.
- 20:59Job well done. Good start.
- 21:03Yeah. Respect.
- 21:06Respect. A strong two.
- 21:08Big moment. A strong, strong two for Noah.
- 21:12Yeah, I was just. Yeah.
- 21:18That's all my notes from Game 3. No, sorry.
- 21:22I laugh because I agree with you.
- 21:23But in the moment I'm like, I was with you.
- 21:25I was like, what? Why not just?
- 21:29Why not let it run? However, that is very easily one
- 21:33of those scenarios where if he goes, if he goes out for the
- 21:37third, out for the 4th, gives up a three run bomb.
- 21:41They're calling for his head. We've seen that play out way too
- 21:45many times. So I'm not going to sit here and
- 21:46and ridicule that decision. It ended up working out great.
- 21:49Ranger Suarez, who generally this year had been very good for
- 21:55you, was able to harness that and and bottle that up and and
- 22:02we saw it play out for his for his out.
- 22:04And what do you go 55 innings? Yeah.
- 22:08But yeah, that's game three-game 4 is really the the talking
- 22:12point of this series. Still raw.
- 22:15Honestly, for me as an honorary Phillies fan, still trying to
- 22:20digest what I saw, feel. Like everyone reacted the same
- 22:23way. Did you put your hands on your
- 22:24head? Oh yeah, I I let out an audible
- 22:29like, what are you doing? Yeah, I think everyone watching
- 22:37that game did that. All right, well, let's talk
- 22:39about. It Dave Roberts didn't even know
- 22:40what to do. He just took his hat off and he
- 22:42was like, Nah, what is? First of all, let's just let's
- 22:48all make sure we're on the same page here.
- 22:50Unless you're a Dodgers fan, if you're a fan of any of the other
- 22:5429 teams, or just a general baseball if you're a Rob Lowe of
- 22:59baseball fans, which is kind of a weird place to be.
- 23:01I don't know how you're just a general baseball fan, but if
- 23:04you're a general baseball. Fan He thinks he's a Dodger fan,
- 23:06but I don't think he's. Again, if you're not a Dodgers
- 23:11fan, we can all agree that was a stupid ending to a a a good
- 23:17game, an entertaining game. I don't wish that ending on
- 23:22anyone. That was brutal.
- 23:25I don't wish that ending on anyone.
- 23:29I was, I was and I, I told our resident Philly fan in our
- 23:32fantasy group group chat. I was like, I had to apologize.
- 23:37I'm like, I'm pissed and I don't have a dog in the well, I mean,
- 23:42honorary Phillies fan, but you know, objective objectively, me
- 23:48small dog Chihuahua of sorts, not not having really a dog in
- 23:54the fight. And I was pissed.
- 23:55I like, I was angry at the way that that game ended because I'm
- 23:59like. No season deserves that's.
- 24:02What I no, no season that involves 162 and change of
- 24:09however many postseason games you know, you play to get to get
- 24:13to that point should end the way that that game did.
- 24:16That was horrible. And honestly, if you're the
- 24:21Dodgers, you're not going to be like, can we redo that?
- 24:25We want to earn it the right way.
- 24:26Like I'm not saying that, but you got to think that there's
- 24:30like a weird, I don't know, there's maybe I'm way I'm
- 24:37looking into this way too much, but I'm just thinking like, at
- 24:40least initially you're going, we kind of feel slimy.
- 24:46I don't know, because like you said, Dave Roberts didn't even.
- 24:49He's like, what just happened? Took his hat off and put his
- 24:53hands straight in the air and started jumping like a child.
- 24:57Literal child. Literal child.
- 24:59And I, I don't think I ended up saying this.
- 25:03I didn't I don't think I verbalized it, but I was, I had
- 25:06the thought where I'm like, I would have rather just been like
- 25:08a Shohei walk off or something like just just end it, end it
- 25:13clean. But this, this made me so mad.
- 25:19Just as a fan of like good baseball, just just pissed me
- 25:24off. Well, I think that's the side of
- 25:30this, right? Like that's the side of it's the
- 25:35downside of being on this side of the argument.
- 25:40You know where we're going to sit here and say like, let's
- 25:43let's start trying to limit strikeouts.
- 25:46Let's start trying to put the ball in play.
- 25:50And when you put yourself in a scenario like this where you
- 25:53don't necessarily have a dog in the fight and you're just
- 25:55watching a game, balls being put in play, there's this is bound
- 26:02to happen at times weird, funky unforced errors and one team
- 26:11absolutely gets embarrassed over it.
- 26:15Right. Like I, I, I hate that it
- 26:22happened that way. Like, there's probably a better
- 26:26way. Like, say it's, I don't know,
- 26:29say it's first and third one out and it's a comebacker to the
- 26:33pitcher and he tries to go to 2nd and he just sails it to
- 26:37center field. Like I'd almost rather have
- 26:41that. I'd almost rather have you gun
- 26:44it and just completely airmail whoever's trying to catch it.
- 26:49This was like a shot put. I can't even get my fingers on
- 26:55this palm ball. Yep, because let's face it, even
- 27:01at the velocity it was thrown, I don't think it would have been
- 27:04on time. No, no, in it it.
- 27:08There was no play at the plate like you said, even with a
- 27:12perfect throw. You saw Rio Muto pointing the
- 27:15first. Yeah, and you saw?
- 27:16Bone pointing at home, by the way, I don't know if you saw
- 27:18that view. I did not see that view.
- 27:21And that's what made me wonder because he was kind of in the
- 27:24peripheral of the, of the pitcher too, like when it
- 27:27clanked around by his ankles. Like you can see that there's
- 27:30like a look up, see where the runner is.
- 27:32And Boehm's pointing towards home.
- 27:35And I, I can't, I'm not going to sit here and blame Boehm.
- 27:37There's like, yeah, there's, it's just unfortunate there's so
- 27:42much we haven't even like gotten into the actual play.
- 27:45There's so much to to break down about this play.
- 27:51For those of you who are saying stop making excuses for him.
- 27:59He should have thrown the ball to 1st obviously.
- 28:04Obviously he should have thrown the ball to 1st.
- 28:06That's the point of the play. My problem though, I was just
- 28:15dealing with complete and utter incompetence in the comments.
- 28:20When I when I put this post out, I I could have I sort of told
- 28:23you about it and you were I want.
- 28:25To find one. You were dabbling in the
- 28:26comments. I put out this tweet immediately
- 28:29after the play, after the game ended.
- 28:31I said it's easy to say quote. He had all day to throw to 1st.
- 28:37End Quote. But when you boot it, the crowd
- 28:40roar intensifies, the game speeds up 100 X immediately, and
- 28:44you see the winning run in your peripherals.
- 28:46It's easy for panic to ensue. And everybody just hit me with
- 28:52the yeah, but he should have thrown it to 1st.
- 28:56Again, obviously he should have thrown it to 1st, but let's not
- 29:01pretend that there's not nuance here.
- 29:04Guy 3/4 of a way through a sleeve of Oreos on his couch
- 29:09who's seen the replay 12 times in slow motion.
- 29:14Could go for some Oreos. There's so much that happens
- 29:18there to the people that say, well, he, he booted the ball,
- 29:21but he still had time. OK, let's stop right there.
- 29:26If you've played baseball at any competitive level, you will know
- 29:30and and shout out to the people that were backing me up on this
- 29:33element of it. If you've booted a ball, your
- 29:37sense of time immediately becomes skewed because you
- 29:41think, shoot, I just booted the ball.
- 29:43In your mind, the guys basically like 2 steps from first base in
- 29:47this moment, he's not thinking, oh, I still got time.
- 29:51He, you know, what he sees is high Song Kim 3/4 of the way to
- 29:55home and he's going well because I booted it.
- 29:59The guy running to 1st is probably presumably already
- 30:02there even though he wasn't as we know he's thinking he's
- 30:06probably already there at first. I have, I have short of throw.
- 30:10I have to make this play that's right here in front of me.
- 30:12That's what happened when when he booted it.
- 30:17OK, so then the next element of it, people saying, well, he
- 30:25should have seen JT Realmuto, he should have heard him.
- 30:29He he was probably shouting to throw it to 1st.
- 30:33You think that's what he's focusing?
- 30:35You think that's where his attention goes in the middle of
- 30:39what does Dodger Stadium hold? 30.
- 30:45You think 56,000 people? You think 56,000 people
- 30:51shouting? They're lying.
- 30:53Is that Wikipedia? You think 56,000 people shouting
- 31:00in a moment where you're you basically black out because
- 31:04you're going. I I just booted the ball.
- 31:07I likely just cost us our entire season.
- 31:09This is likely everything is going through his mind as it's
- 31:12happening, just. Have a second or third deck in
- 31:15the outfield. Sheer panic.
- 31:17Sheer panic. The comment about the PF PS By
- 31:21the way, look, that was 8 months ago first of all.
- 31:29Second of all, it's not the same and and I'm not going to sit
- 31:38here and act like I've played at this level or anywhere near this
- 31:42level. No, but you've at least played
- 31:44baseballs. But I have.
- 31:46These people have not exactly. It's so clear, so obvious to me
- 31:49tell you that there is this, there's an inner clock
- 31:55specifically as an infielder, I'm sure pitchers have the same
- 31:58way. There's an inner clock that you
- 32:01don't necessarily have to make eye contact or even see the
- 32:06runner going down the line that you know, I'm running out of
- 32:10time and it's not PF. PS Because fungos being hit in
- 32:16Florida in February are not clanking around your your
- 32:23ankles, you're not panic mode during PF.
- 32:26PS It's impossible to simulate this.
- 32:31You can't. Have you seen footage of these
- 32:34guys taking PF? PS They could not care less.
- 32:37That's what I'm saying about the.
- 32:39They do then, yes, but they do not care.
- 32:41And practicing that it's it's just never going to happen.
- 32:44You can't simulate this moment. And I'm telling you, PF PS are
- 32:50one thing where you feel it cleanly.
- 32:53You can set your feet square your shoulders and make a good
- 32:56throw to 1st. It is a whole different thing
- 32:58when that rhythm is messed up with a large amount of Dodger
- 33:04fans. I'm not buying into that number.
- 33:05A large amount of Dodger fans yelling and and you're panic
- 33:11mode and there is this corner of your eye picking up this dude
- 33:15barreling down the line. I'm not saying that the play
- 33:21shouldn't have been made. Obviously the play should have
- 33:23been made like that play should have been routine.
- 33:27Maybe the Phillies going to win that game.
- 33:28I don't know. Maybe he goes on for maybe it's
- 33:32still going. Maybe it's the 16th inning.
- 33:34I don't know. But the truth of the matter is
- 33:38it's like this is the whole point of baseball.
- 33:42This is the whole point of putting a ball on play is for
- 33:46these types of mistakes that could happen.
- 33:50That's why you are if you're on that side of the argument, if
- 33:54you're if you have a normal functioning brain and you don't
- 33:58sit there enjoying a 27% strikeout percentage, whatever
- 34:02the league's at 22%. I have no idea what it's at, but
- 34:06it's in the 20s, which is insane if you don't enjoy that type of
- 34:09baseball. This is the caveat.
- 34:12This is what happens. You have to understand that if
- 34:16you force balls to be put into play that you can force errors,
- 34:20you can force issues and we saw incredible plays, we've seen
- 34:27incredible plays. I'm I'm actually kind of swaying
- 34:30a little bit closer to like there are some athletes on the
- 34:33mound, There are some incredible athletes by with pitchers.
- 34:37Christopher Sanchez tonight made it one heck of a play on a
- 34:41comeback and throw to 1st. It just is what it is man.
- 34:47These are these are relievers by the way, don't do a ton of PF.
- 34:50PS It's mostly starters. Relievers aren't the more
- 34:55athletic defenders when it comes to the pitching group.
- 34:59It's starters. This was just the worst
- 35:03nightmare, perfect storm situation and it hit.
- 35:08And I, I genuinely feel for the Phillies.
- 35:11I genuinely feel for the Philly fans.
- 35:13That is a that would haunt me. I I'd rather have the
- 35:19embarrassing blowout loss that the Yankees had in the World
- 35:22Series last year then have my season end that way.
- 35:31I'm I'm just going through the other takes that I've seen in
- 35:35response to this play that just make my blood boil.
- 35:41I've I like, I've already seen countless people say, well,
- 35:47pressure's pressure. He's a professional.
- 35:49He just has to make the play. No kidding.
- 35:51He has to make the play. It's his job.
- 35:54But to sit there at the whole. Point of the game that's why we
- 35:58literally play the game why did he strike out he he knows the
- 36:02pressure he's a professional like shut up Susan go get me
- 36:05another bag of Cheetos the. My, my, my point and why I get
- 36:12so frustrated about this is that people, hey, no disrespect
- 36:16people, people try to look at this through a vacuum where
- 36:19they, they try to I, they, they boil this play down to just the
- 36:23fact that a guy muffed APFP and they say, well, this is his
- 36:28fault. Fire caught him, make him walk
- 36:32home. No disrespect to anybody that we
- 36:34may know that told him, told him that he should walk home.
- 36:37I got what's funny. I get the I get the immediate
- 36:41rage and frustration from Phillies fans.
- 36:43However, there's so much more at play.
- 36:49And if, and again, neither of us have played at that level, we
- 36:53can hand up. We can acknowledge that.
- 36:55Mexican League. Don't look up those stats.
- 36:59They're not us. If you know, you know.
- 37:00If you know, you know, but my point is, is if you have played
- 37:07baseball and I've even had, I even had people, they were like,
- 37:10yeah, I played softball and I can, I can, I can jive with what
- 37:13you're saying. To your point, you mentioned the
- 37:16internal clock, the the added pressure of the literal winning
- 37:22run of the game that would send you home coming down the line.
- 37:27And you pick them up there. Like there's so much at play
- 37:29that that it's goes so far beyond just, well, who should
- 37:34have thrown it to 1st, obviously.
- 37:38Yeah. But that's in a perfect world.
- 37:41There's more at play there that led him and I'm not I'm not like
- 37:45I'm not defending. I'm not justifying it.
- 37:47I'm not saying he made the right call.
- 37:49It was a bone headed play. But to sit there and act like it
- 37:52was just him going Oh, I booted the ball.
- 37:55Oh, I looked up. Oh, I see JT Rio Muto.
- 37:58He's he's pointing to first base, but I'm going to throw it
- 38:00home anyway. Oh, I overthrow it.
- 38:02Oh, our game's over. Oh, our season's over.
- 38:05It's it's not, it's but people, people, people assume.
- 38:09So we got a lot. I will say we got a lot of
- 38:12people in the comments that have a lot of post season experience
- 38:17on the resume. I was, I apologize, I was
- 38:20unfamiliar with your All's game. I did not realize we had so many
- 38:23people who have dealt with this kind of pressure and know how
- 38:26easy it is. It it truly my apologies.
- 38:31I'll, I'll say that we've watched games and in you, we're
- 38:40all obsessed with the, with the player reaction, right?
- 38:44We're all obsessed with like the, the players that hang in
- 38:46the dugout after and watch the other team celebrate because
- 38:49they're, they're a little bit of a sicko, which is cool.
- 38:52I like sickos, but we see reactions after, hey, look, you
- 39:01gave up a home run. Hey, look, you know,
- 39:05game-winning double like what? Whatever, you know, stolen base.
- 39:08Like there's other scenarios where you've seen where it's
- 39:12like that's just kind of the game.
- 39:14That's how the game unfolds sometimes and it didn't go our
- 39:17way, right? And then you see stuff like this
- 39:22where there's obviously an unforced error and it's just
- 39:25like this kerfuffle of a moment, right?
- 39:31Watch how the other teammates react around that that guy.
- 39:38Because they know, like, Rob Thompson stopped him at the top
- 39:41of the stairs before he went down, pat him on the chest,
- 39:46spoke to him in his ear. He sat on the bench and another
- 39:48teammate sitting next to him. And it's like, it's not just
- 39:53this level of like, oh, yeah, his teammates care about it.
- 39:55No, it's like there is this worst nightmare deep pit in our
- 40:02stomach that that could happen to any of us as a player because
- 40:07it has happened to all of us at some point on one level or
- 40:11another. And it's the worst, most solo
- 40:15feeling ever. And so when you watch his other
- 40:19teammates around him, it's like, I know that's not you.
- 40:23I know you make that play 9 times out of 10.
- 40:28And I know what it's like to not make that play.
- 40:31And I'm here to support you, man.
- 40:32I'm here to like kind of throw my arm around you and make sure,
- 40:35you know, like it. There's consoling when your team
- 40:40loses. And it's a natural way where
- 40:42it's in an unnatural way. You can tell that it's like that
- 40:47moment just got the best of them.
- 40:49And it's like that shows how big that moment is, shows that it's
- 40:54just like sometimes that's the way stuff happens.
- 40:59You can't just sit here and say that like he should.
- 41:01It's not a video game. Like if if you lost that way in
- 41:06a video game, a controller be through the screen and your
- 41:11fatty is at home playing that like you're this.
- 41:13It's not a real person with real heartbeat, real emotions, real
- 41:17pressure. Like, it's just an insane moment
- 41:20to expect that everything should be done perfectly, just not how
- 41:25it goes. Philly fans hope, I hope, take
- 41:33it easy on them. They did have a rough.
- 41:36There's some. Vile human beings out there.
- 41:38And I'm not, I'm not just like I'm not, I'm not.
- 41:40I'm sure, I'm sure there's a a fraction of Phillies fans that
- 41:43right now are just viewing the most vile.
- 41:49Yeah. Content at this guy right now
- 41:52online, but I'm just saying like generally I think.
- 41:55There's there's just, I genuinely hope not vile people
- 41:59when it comes to. Crap like this.
- 42:00I definitely get the frustrations, trust me.
- 42:03But like, yeah, that that level, that next step is crazy to me.
- 42:08If you're pinning, if you're pinning the fact that you're
- 42:11going home on Kurt Green, why don't we first start with Bryce
- 42:14Harper? Like, where were you, buddy?
- 42:16Let's get into. That a little bit.
- 42:17Like there's where, where were you?
- 42:20We did have a couple bobs from Schwarber.
- 42:22One of them, my goodness, I don't believe that was just 453
- 42:28feet. I think that was 700 feet.
- 42:31I the ball that he hit in Game 3 was insane.
- 42:34But there were superstars that did not show out, man.
- 42:38They didn't show. Bryce, I love you, but what was
- 42:41this? What was this?
- 42:44And it was like a nonchalant effort, too.
- 42:47It's just like you're in first gear.
- 42:49That's what I'm saying. And like, and we we talk about
- 42:52this, this World Series window for the Phillies and for me at
- 42:58least my my humble opinion is that you're not as long as Bryce
- 43:04is still in this, you know, elite category of, of production
- 43:08that I think I believe he's still in.
- 43:10Yeah, you are not going to be able to win a World Series if
- 43:16you're the Phillies unless you have a fiery Bryce Harper giving
- 43:22you that production. You're just not if you're going
- 43:27to have this like nonchalant, you know, just happy to be here.
- 43:32And I've made this comp before recently, but I, I stand by it
- 43:36because I, I so like, I'm, I'm not AUFC guy, but I like
- 43:40following the, the trajectory of Conor McGregor's career because
- 43:44I like, I just, I just liked, OK, this guy, this guy can run
- 43:48his mouth, but he can back it up.
- 43:49But then he reached a point in his career, and I'm, I'm not
- 43:52saying they're the same in that way, but he reached a point in
- 43:55his career where it's like, OK, he's gotten to a point where
- 43:59he's more than comfortable with just where he's at in his life,
- 44:03his career, his earnings that you just don't see that hunger
- 44:07there anymore. And I, I, I fear that we're
- 44:09getting to that point with Bryce because I just did not see it
- 44:13this year. Like you just did not see that
- 44:15fire and you did not see the production.
- 44:18And so like, I going back to my original point, if we're going
- 44:20to, if, if, if Phillies fans are just general baseball fans are
- 44:24going to pin this loss on Kirk Green for his his throw.
- 44:28Like what maybe maybe back up first earlier in the game and
- 44:33maybe let's ask some questions of like where the rest of the
- 44:35lineup was was. What?
- 44:41Year and look what while you're looking up whatever you're
- 44:43looking up I just like I I I I need to drive this point home
- 44:47because I've been called out for it is like oh like can't talk
- 44:52about the dodgers no matter what they do this like this is this
- 44:57is a very unique situation the way that the this series ended
- 45:01it's like OK yes let like let's acknowledge I'm not I'm not
- 45:04taking anything away from the dodgers they're the ones moving
- 45:06on and we. Should be talking about them.
- 45:08I'm just. Kidding.
- 45:11We should be talking about the Dodgers.
- 45:13They're they're the ones moving on.
- 45:15But like, this is a very, very bizarre situation that ended
- 45:19this series. And it just not to mention this
- 45:22was the this was the number one seed.
- 45:24You know what I mean? Like this was the team that got
- 45:26the first round by this was a a World Series favorite by many,
- 45:30many people, including myself. I think you did you pick them to
- 45:34win it all. At the start of the postseason,
- 45:39when. We did a bracket.
- 45:40When we did that bracket, we burned our $20 up.
- 45:45No, I think I actually had the guy had the socks and the
- 45:47Brewers in in the World Series. Actually I had them losing in
- 45:51the NLCS. Yeah.
- 45:54Either way, I was just it, there's a lot of expectation.
- 45:57What I was looking up was how many years were left for Mr.
- 46:03Bryce on this contract and. I saw a TikTok today where it
- 46:08was at the first slide. It was like a it was a a
- 46:11carousel. The first slide was thanks,
- 46:15you're fired and it was a picture of Rob Thompson.
- 46:17And then the next slide was a picture of Bryce and it was like
- 46:19if you didn't have a trade, a no trade clause, you'd be out of
- 46:21here too. I'm like, what?
- 46:23What are we doing? Calm.
- 46:25Down. What are we doing?
- 46:28Some people shouldn't have phone service I.
- 46:34What is left in the contract? Six years I'm going to.
- 46:44I'm going. To go as close, because it's 13
- 46:46year deal, we're as close as the halfway point as we can be.
- 46:50But it's the back half and it's the aging half and it's the half
- 46:55that everybody who follows baseball would have expected him
- 47:00to have a ring by now half and he doesn't.
- 47:06And moving forward, I don't know what this team looks like
- 47:11because they have to get younger and they have to get more
- 47:12athletic. Yeah, it's not this.
- 47:14This was it. It had.
- 47:15It has to be. This.
- 47:18Is not working. I I'm on the I'm on, I'm in the
- 47:23camp. That Couch Rover needs to move
- 47:25on. I don't think I think it would
- 47:27be a mistake for them to bring him back.
- 47:29I think the team needs, I think Bryce needs to be able to
- 47:32utilize that DH spot. I think Castellanos, I know he
- 47:37had a couple double s in this series that were big, but like,
- 47:43I'm, I'm out on that. They need to get more athletic.
- 47:51Trey Turner just snuck in and won a batting title.
- 47:55Where was I? Did you pay attention?
- 47:57Did You Know? That I I, I heard it.
- 47:59But I I heard it. During the postseason, but I was
- 48:01like, I had no idea. Wasn't on my radar, yeah.
- 48:06But to your point about this team and how it's constructed,
- 48:09we always say like all you got to do is get into the dance.
- 48:11But there there's this active regression happening.
- 48:15We like, we talk about all the time.
- 48:18World Series in 2022 appearance, 2023 NLCS, 2024 DS, 2025 DS, and
- 48:29then you'll lose it the way you did.
- 48:31Like, it's just that you're not you're not going in the right
- 48:35direction and you're you're only getting older.
- 48:40Unless you had any other thoughts on Phyllis.
- 48:41I feel like we got to move on. Last one, Realmuto, I think
- 48:46probably. I think there's just moves it.
- 48:49I don't know what their farm looks like.
- 48:51This is the Dombrowski downfall. This is the Dave Dumb Dave
- 48:55Dombrowski downfall. Triple D.
- 48:59He's going to empty the tank. He's going to empty the bank.
- 49:04Sometimes it gets you a ring, sometimes it doesn't.
- 49:06And now we're at the end where it's like this don't look so
- 49:10great because we don't have a ring.
- 49:12I'll go to my grave defending Dave Dombrowski.
- 49:14I think I love that approach. I'm not coming at him.
- 49:17I think this is just the downfall of when you don't have
- 49:20one right for sure. You know, so it looks good if
- 49:24you if you get a ring, it looks good and you're like, you know
- 49:27what hauled all the respect to the world of how you went
- 49:29through it. You like you, you spent, you put
- 49:31the chips in the middle of the table and that's what we
- 49:33constantly ask for. But he did that and now it's
- 49:39it's kind of it's full on panic mode of how they can try and
- 49:43save this and salvage something out of this contract for Bryce,
- 49:49specifically in the commitment to Trey Turner.
- 49:52And they're starting rotation, which is still excellent even
- 49:55with not having Wheeler moving forward for next year.
- 49:58So I don't know about Wheeler next year, I don't know when
- 50:03he's supposed to be back, but they they still are enough to
- 50:08add some pieces. I don't think Schwarber, Rio
- 50:10Muto and Castellano should be coming back.
- 50:12It's just my opinion, moving on. Moving on, Tigers, Mariners,
- 50:25this has been quite. I got this one right.
- 50:29I think you did too. Right.
- 50:30We say five games back and forth.
- 50:33I think so, yeah. Yeah.
- 50:36Good for us this. Has been a heck of a heck of a
- 50:40series. And is this just me or the has
- 50:43the DS lasted 6 weeks? Dude, I know I was literally
- 50:47think I had this thought before, like as I was coming down the
- 50:51stairs to my office down here, like to record and I'm going
- 50:57what, how many episodes have we recorded that have related to
- 51:02this division series? Like I don't remember ever
- 51:05having to do this many. And and you know, it's probably
- 51:08only been what like a a preview, a check in and now this.
- 51:16But like, if we if we followed the division series, you know,
- 51:21in a vacuum, we would still be having to do a recap, which I
- 51:24don't even think we're, I mean, the, the CS starts on Sunday.
- 51:31So like, I don't even think that we're going to have that.
- 51:33But if we if we followed it, you know, like I said, in a vacuum,
- 51:36we'd still have to do another, which would be like four or five
- 51:39episodes for this thing. Yeah, I'm out.
- 51:41I'm out on the division series. However, I'm not out on game
- 51:44five between the Mariners and Tigers because this is going to
- 51:48be, I mean, talk about talk about cinema, my friend.
- 51:53The fact that this comes down to a Game 5 where you got to well,
- 51:58I don't I don't have to, but you have the luxury of being able to
- 52:01roll Terek Schuble out there. You know, you're kidding me.
- 52:06And for those that are like, well, how did he fare against
- 52:08the Mariners earlier in the year?
- 52:10I mean, I get that I and I hear it and it's a valid point and
- 52:14I'll take it. I'll take it under advisement,
- 52:17but I feel like I would rather have Terek Schuble going for me
- 52:24in game five then not regardless the opponent.
- 52:29Yeah, just a thought. I mean, unless, unless, unless
- 52:39this is unless we're talking like Garrett Cole going up
- 52:42against the Red Sox pre Rafael Devers trade, then it's like
- 52:48maybe history's not on your side here.
- 52:51Maybe we go with, maybe we go with Carlos Rodon.
- 52:53Like I maybe that that'd be a scenario.
- 52:56Any other name, please? Goodyear just crumbled under
- 53:02pressure. Louis.
- 53:04Heel whoever was whoever was in the rotation pre Devers trade,
- 53:09that could have been a viable option for you.
- 53:10Anyway, I'll take my chances with scuba in game five and
- 53:17we're heading back to see what did I say?
- 53:19I said. Yeah, you're going to be at a
- 53:24wedding. Yeah, we'll see.
- 53:27Can you? Skip it.
- 53:30Well, it's my brother's wedding, so.
- 53:33Probably not. Maybe.
- 53:34We'll see. We'll see.
- 53:37Congrats, I got to go crazy. No, we're supposed to just miss
- 53:43the bridesmaids first. I got to go.
- 53:45I got to go. I'm a school, you're in IT
- 53:49school. 'S coming out for the 8th like I
- 53:50have to go yeah, I'm in it, yeah, I'm in it, yeah.
- 53:56Dang, that's tough. But what did I say, though?
- 54:01I said a game five at T-Mobile would go.
- 54:06I believe the word I used was bonkers.
- 54:09I agree we're just sounds so stupid saying T-Mobile.
- 54:13Yeah, Safeco. Game five at Safeco would go
- 54:18stupid. Yeah, game five at the King
- 54:22Dome. Yeah, it's going to.
- 54:25Be Griffey and the boys. It's going to be, it's going to
- 54:28be sweet, man. It's going to be good stuff.
- 54:31And it I'm, I'm kind of proud of the Tigers for putting up a
- 54:35fight. I, I mean, I feel like everyone
- 54:37just kind of sharpied in the Mariners and especially after
- 54:43just the way the season ended for the Tigers.
- 54:46And like it felt like they kind of stole it from Cleveland in a
- 54:52way. They just somehow had to lead
- 54:54every game in a no disrespect way.
- 54:56I just, I don't know how they won.
- 54:59I don't know how they're here going forcing a Game 5 like it's
- 55:03they're kind of just hanging around.
- 55:08The way I see it is they they they put to bed the collapse
- 55:17narrative when they beat Cleveland to move on to the DS.
- 55:23Yeah, I think they're buying them.
- 55:25But then like, they put the narrative to bed, they put the
- 55:31narrative in the bed, but then they turned out the lights
- 55:35officially. By the door.
- 55:38By making it to Game 5. Frankly, I don't even care.
- 55:40I don't care what happens to Game 5 whether they win it or
- 55:43not. I think getting to Game five in
- 55:47the fashion that they've done it completely like you, we should
- 55:52we should have, like I said, we should have forgotten about it
- 55:54after the Cleveland thing anyway.
- 55:55But for any like any still hanging around, yeah, any like
- 55:58fringe opinions that are like, well, you know, they still could
- 56:02get knocked. No, this is for pinions.
- 56:06This is this has been impressive to watch.
- 56:11And you know, I'll be the first to put my hand up and apologize
- 56:15to the Tigers. I don't want them to win.
- 56:19I, no, I think the Blue Jays would sweep them.
- 56:23I I think it would. But would they though like
- 56:26that's what they like? We're we're getting to that
- 56:28point where it's like, OK, enough momentum has, I feel like
- 56:31has built up both with the fact that they were able to get into
- 56:35the dance. You're able to not Cleveland out
- 56:38the team that put you in that position in the 1st place and
- 56:40now you've pushed Seattle to Game 5.
- 56:44If they, I'm just going to go ahead and say if they do win
- 56:47game five, I would be very hesitant to just pencil in
- 56:51Toronto. I really would, although what if
- 56:56geographically though, what a fascinating match up by the way,
- 57:01if that if that pans out, you realize how close Toronto and
- 57:05Detroit are way closer than people might think.
- 57:08I. Really struggle with the
- 57:10northern part of the, the center of the country, the N center of
- 57:16the country. It's a bit of a struggle for me.
- 57:19I don't know. I mean, is, is Michigan and like
- 57:22North Dakota pretty close? Detroit, I think they're pretty,
- 57:26They're pretty close to each other, right?
- 57:30I don't even know where Toronto is.
- 57:32Dude, you can get to Toronto or, excuse me, to Detroit from or,
- 57:36you know, vice versa in under 4 hours, in under 4 hour drive.
- 57:43That's how close they are. I, I, I, I think Blue Jays fans
- 57:51would travel and I don't think Comerica would be a.
- 57:57Lot of logistics. Solely, solely the Tigers fans.
- 58:01IA lot of passport logistics I. Want the Mariners.
- 58:05I want the Mariners and Blue Jays.
- 58:06That just feels like a good matchup.
- 58:08No disrespect to the Tigers, I just no well that that rotation.
- 58:14I'm going to disagree with you versus.
- 58:15The Blue Jays lineup, I need that.
- 58:19I want that. I would have agreed with you
- 58:22before this series, but it's like they're they're just
- 58:25continuing to show up and figure out ways to win.
- 58:28And like I said, this momentum continues to build on itself.
- 58:31If they cap this series with a game five win with Scubal on the
- 58:38bump having LED you to that point, I'm not going to, I'm not
- 58:44going to necessarily go out of my way to bet against the Tigers
- 58:47at that point. I'm really not.
- 58:49And he's not throwing again till game 3.
- 58:53Clearly they've been able to figure it out otherwise.
- 58:58Yeah, but I'm with. The whole different set
- 59:00situation, seven games, best of seven, I should say.
- 59:04That changes everything. I think we kind of forget that
- 59:06every year. Do you like the structure?
- 59:11I don't. I haven't asked you that in a
- 59:12while. Do you like the 3577?
- 59:17The if if like a timeline wasn't an issue because like obviously
- 59:21like six or seven weeks of playoff baseball is kind of
- 59:27insane. But like if that was not a part
- 59:30of the equation. Do you like the structure of
- 59:32this? I the the 5-7 sevens all I feel
- 59:38like I've ever really known and I know, I know for the longest
- 59:42time I was like, you can't have 162 come down to A1 game wild
- 59:46card series. But the one game wild card
- 59:50series looking back is so much better, so much better.
- 59:54And I I I get why they did it. One more money, two, it it
- 1:00:02builds in a little bit of a buffer.
- 1:00:03You kind of have to prove it in a three-game versus A1 game.
- 1:00:06You could just get lucky, but man.
- 1:00:10A1 game wild card was I hated it, but I loved it.
- 1:00:15Yeah. And maybe if 20/21 went
- 1:00:17differently, I'd have a different thought on it.
- 1:00:19But that was just a great baseball game.
- 1:00:22I hated it. Just a great baseball game.
- 1:00:24Any news? Yeah.
- 1:00:27Shout out Javi Baez, shout out Riley Green.
- 1:00:32Honestly, shout out Cal Raleigh. We've been shutting him out all
- 1:00:34year. But dude showing up and it may
- 1:00:40not be via the Homer every AB but he's he's putting back the
- 1:00:45ball. Get on base, J Rod showed.
- 1:00:50Up now he's he kind of went cold after he dropped the the looks
- 1:00:56like he's figured it out quote. It's kind of gone cold.
- 1:01:02That was one game. In fact, most of the lineup, I
- 1:01:04think outside of Cal Raleigh and the JP Crawford kind of, kind of
- 1:01:15been a little absent. Yeah, whoa.
- 1:01:21JP Crawford in the 9 hole hitting three O 8 Cal Raleigh
- 1:01:25hitting 438. See Bryce Superstars supposed to
- 1:01:32hit. I hate that it came to me having
- 1:01:36to to get on my boy Bryce, but it had to.
- 1:01:39Like had to be done. I got to got to hold him
- 1:01:41accountable, you know? Yeah, let's go, Mariners.
- 1:01:48All done. Cubs.
- 1:01:51Brewers, they burned. We haven't talked about them
- 1:02:00yet. Oh, this is the last one.
- 1:02:04This is. The longest series ever.
- 1:02:10Two tickets have been punched, 2 have yet to be determined.
- 1:02:15TDB. Feel like the Brewers are losing
- 1:02:18momentum? Oh yeah.
- 1:02:23Cubbies have started to get it going.
- 1:02:26Yeah, I'd say so. This is a classic example of,
- 1:02:31yeah, we're going back home for Game 5, but if it were up to us,
- 1:02:36wouldn't want to have to do it. Don't feel great?
- 1:02:38This way. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:42Not responding. Sticks were not there tonight at
- 1:02:45all. What are the final end up being?
- 1:02:48Was it 6 O? Yeah, and they burn Freddy
- 1:02:54Peralta. Oh, what a detrimental blow.
- 1:03:03Not good, Pat, Not good. It's not Pat's fault.
- 1:03:07It's not Pat's fault. I think that's the right.
- 1:03:09It's Ian Hap's fault. Shout him out.
- 1:03:12I think it's the right play to. Would you have pitched Freddie
- 1:03:15saying like, hey, let's just get her done, Let's get out of here?
- 1:03:17Yes, because you don't want to like save him for a game.
- 1:03:21No, you don't want to like that. Just sends to me, at least, that
- 1:03:26just sends the wrong message. When you're like, well, we'll
- 1:03:29save them for game five. It's like, oh, so what's game 4
- 1:03:32then? We just might.
- 1:03:34Should we just pack our bags now?
- 1:03:35Like, so? Yeah, go for it again. 4 They
- 1:03:41did. They are.
- 1:03:42They are packed. They're coming back home.
- 1:03:44They're on a plane. They're on a plane as we speak.
- 1:03:48Or one one could imagine. One could guess, One could.
- 1:03:53Assume they're they're probably back in Milwaukee.
- 1:03:55It's What's the distance between Chicago?
- 1:03:57Back in Milwaukee, dude, the game just ended like less than
- 1:04:02an hour ago. What's the distance?
- 1:04:04You didn't answer my question. Over or under the distance
- 1:04:10between Detroit and Toronto. Under for sure I'm.
- 1:04:14Going to say over surprise, over surprise, over whack, lack of
- 1:04:20geographical knowledge, I'm going to say.
- 1:04:22Surprise way under way under. Dude, that's an hour and a half
- 1:04:26drive. Shoot.
- 1:04:28What did I say? I think it was like 345 from
- 1:04:31Detroit to Toronto. Yeah, it's got to be pretty
- 1:04:33nice. It's got to be pretty nice.
- 1:04:37Be back in their own beds pretty soon.
- 1:04:40And I can be sleeping. Well, I'm telling you, dude,
- 1:04:43this is the the home field advantage only works.
- 1:04:48You don't have your backs up against the wall.
- 1:04:50And this just feels like a situation where the Brewers kind
- 1:04:53of have their backs up against the wall.
- 1:04:56It does, but it gets loud in there.
- 1:05:00It does and it all it takes is a is a good a a quick start, punch
- 1:05:05him in the mouth right right off the top.
- 1:05:08Who goes for the Cubs? Matthew Boyd look great tonight,
- 1:05:10by the way. Let's get credit where credit do
- 1:05:18allergies, man, that isn't until Saturday.
- 1:05:23It's it's an hour and a half away.
- 1:05:26Just play tomorrow. Unbelievable.
- 1:05:32No probables yet, according to ESPN.
- 1:05:37Interested to see who. What's his face?
- 1:05:42Priester maybe? We haven't seen him much.
- 1:05:47They have him in the pen though. Fuck, I should.
- 1:05:50Yeah, but I could see it. I could see it being a pen game.
- 1:05:56I could see it is even healthy right is.
- 1:06:01Even healthy right now. Yeah, Kyle Tucker woke up.
- 1:06:06Yep. Sure did love that.
- 1:06:10Yeah, Ian, have I? I mentioned his name.
- 1:06:13I feel like, I feel like Ian Hap gets slept on man.
- 1:06:16Big time slept on like he's up there with Rizzo and Chris
- 1:06:20Bryant for me and I I just yeah, I know the same thing being
- 1:06:25attached but like I. Yeah.
- 1:06:27He's been around for a minute, I bet.
- 1:06:30You'd be surprised how long he's been around.
- 1:06:35But yeah, like I was saying. Eight years.
- 1:06:37Like I was saying, dude almost had three jacks tonight.
- 1:06:41Yeah, yeah, well, he had one. He had the three, three run
- 1:06:44Homer in the first to to really get that place coming unglued.
- 1:06:48But then like the next two ABS warning track 11 I think like
- 1:06:53rode the Ivy in down into the glove.
- 1:06:57You said eight years, nine years.
- 1:07:01Oh, told you. There's your surprising over.
- 1:07:05Yeah, it's a good call, Good call.
- 1:07:07I had it in there. I just, it wasn't associated
- 1:07:09with the right thing. Also, Carson Kelly, like I know
- 1:07:13we talked about like how insane he was to start the year and
- 1:07:16then he kind of just like came back down to earth a little bit.
- 1:07:23Dude's good. Who had who?
- 1:07:25I've I've already drawn a blank who had the Homer it because his
- 1:07:29got called back but who had the Homer after that?
- 1:07:32Kyle Tucker. No, there's another one.
- 1:07:36I think it was after Tucker's. You're just making stuff.
- 1:07:42Up dude, I'm literally not I I saw I saw him.
- 1:07:45I can see him. I sent it.
- 1:07:50Oh, it's Michael Bush, another guy that well, I've I've been
- 1:07:55I've been singing his praises this year, but generally
- 1:07:58speaking has been slept on. Yep, I'm excited, man.
- 1:08:05We're going to have a couple couple game fives that I do not
- 1:08:12feel are going to disappoint. It's time to buckle up.
- 1:08:18Yeah, it's going to be good. Wow, They really kind of mapped
- 1:08:25this thing out perfectly because the Sunday is the start of the
- 1:08:28ALCS, but Monday's is the start of the NLCS and then game two of
- 1:08:32the ALCS. You know, I'll figure it out
- 1:08:37sometimes. That game tomorrow, 58 Eastern,
- 1:08:42I'll be there. I might be in the clear man.
- 1:08:45Might be in the clear. When's that wedding starting?
- 1:08:47Things are 4. You're good.
- 1:08:50I'm so. Good.
- 1:08:51At that point, I think it's socially acceptable to put it on
- 1:08:54your phone. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:57I mean I may have been man I help breakdown break stuff down
- 1:09:01but like. Kind of sweating on the dance
- 1:09:03floor a little bit. 4 hours. How long is is this?
- 1:09:07Is this like a? It's a smaller wedding.
- 1:09:10Yeah, it's very possible. I'm I'd be in the clip.
- 1:09:13Not that I'm like rooting for it to be done faster, but I'm just
- 1:09:16I'm I'm thinking through it. Yeah, well, I mean no
- 1:09:19disrespect. I don't see Michael as being
- 1:09:22monster. Much of A dancer, no.
- 1:09:25That's what I'm saying. Like that's that's what I'm
- 1:09:28that's, that's a factor, that's a play here.
- 1:09:30Then I'm like, OK, I might be, might be all right for this Game
- 1:09:325. He, he might be ready to go at
- 1:09:35that point. He might be like, let's let's
- 1:09:37pack this thing up. Let's hop in the car and get out
- 1:09:39of here. Yeah, we'll see.
- 1:09:42Yeah, we shall see. Who you got?
- 1:09:50Don't do this to me which I I. Want Brew Crew?
- 1:09:56Yeah, yeah. Casseroles.
- 1:09:58Blue collar, Calloused, calloused fingers, Hands.
- 1:10:02Yep, because that's that's all we know about Midwesterners.
- 1:10:07That's I just imagine the whole city works in a factory with an
- 1:10:13assembly line like. What do you think happens it
- 1:10:16like it if Milwaukee were to win a World Series?
- 1:10:20Like in your mind, do you just envision like everybody making a
- 1:10:23casserole and like walking to the end of their driveway and
- 1:10:26like sharing recipes? Like, is that is that how you
- 1:10:29envision Milwaukee celebrating the championship?
- 1:10:32Yeah, like people are like drinking milk.
- 1:10:34And there's just like, you know, those like small town, like
- 1:10:38sharing the July parades. That's what it's going to be
- 1:10:41like. Just popping, popping chairs,
- 1:10:45sitting down. Yeah, just having the casserole
- 1:10:48tray in front of them with a big serving spoon, but just for
- 1:10:50themselves. Yes, yeah, that's what Milwaukee
- 1:10:55is. That's what we're rooting for
- 1:10:57when we say we want Milwaukee to to.
- 1:10:59Take. And they're like, yeah, they're
- 1:11:01like you. I just caught this fish.
- 1:11:03I'm going to cook it up for the parade.
- 1:11:09And they're like what it is. Let me let me help you there.
- 1:11:12Yeah, 100%. Yeah, you got you got extra
- 1:11:16gravy. Yes, always.
- 1:11:19I have extra gravy. This is an extra gravy household
- 1:11:23that's look. Oh.
- 1:11:25Let me take some of that gravy off your hands.
- 1:11:27Yeah. Oh, I I was about to take your
- 1:11:30parking spot. It's yours.
- 1:11:32You keep it. Yeah.
- 1:11:36Good people, good people out there.
- 1:11:39Wait, is that Minnesota? Am I getting?
- 1:11:41Am I getting a mixed? It's a little.
- 1:11:42You got a little Minnesota in there.
- 1:11:44You got a little Minnesota in there, but.
- 1:11:46That's fair, yeah. Not to lump all Midwesterners
- 1:11:50together, but. Kinda.
- 1:11:54Like East Coast bias is kind of unfolding.
- 1:11:56My in laws are from Minnesota and that's pretty accurate.
- 1:12:01Yeah, everything I know about Midwesterners in Minnesota, I
- 1:12:03learned from How I Met your mother.
- 1:12:05So. Tough, yeah.
- 1:12:09They. Are all Vikings fans?
- 1:12:11That's 100%. That's how they do it.
- 1:12:14That's. 100% accurate. A lot of.
- 1:12:16Tim horton's. And hey, don't sleep on Tim
- 1:12:20horton's, all right? We got to get out of here.
- 1:12:22You asked for the Blue Jays talk.
- 1:12:24You asked who I'm pulling for what?
- 1:12:26I didn't say anything but the Blue Jays.
- 1:12:28You said Tim Horton's. They have.
- 1:12:30There's American Tim Horton's. I'm out on those.
- 1:12:34Sure, yeah, I agree. I'm just saying they do exist.
- 1:12:38That's like the McDonald's in China, like you're serving
- 1:12:42squid. That's This is not McDonald's.
- 1:12:44Well, I think it's, I think McDonald's elsewhere is a lot
- 1:12:47healthier for you. But I'm, I'm with you.
- 1:12:49I'm. Neither here nor.
- 1:12:50They're saying that's not a part of the.
- 1:12:52That's not a part of the discussion.
- 1:12:54You asked me who I'm pulling for.
- 1:12:56Yeah, everything I feel. Like Brew Crew?
- 1:13:00I'm not happy with the Brew Crew right now, but I'm I'm not still
- 1:13:04going to pull with the pull. I'm still going to pull for him.
- 1:13:06We play 5 for a reason. Look.
- 1:13:11I said this, I said a while ago is going to be my last statement
- 1:13:15about the Yankees, but I have one more statement and it's pro
- 1:13:19Blue Jay and it's pro It's pro Blue Jay,
- 1:13:35pro Brewer, pro brew, pro Blue Jay, pro Brewer in the in the
- 1:13:42angle that this is good baseball, This is proof this is
- 1:13:50I think this is going to help cleanse our game in a way.
- 1:13:53If those teams can continue to move forward and prove that
- 1:13:57analytics aren't the end all be all and that they can just play
- 1:14:03good baseball. The Brewers and the Blue Jays
- 1:14:07have an anti analytic, anti 2025 style baseball to them and I
- 1:14:16think if they keep moving forward, I think it helps
- 1:14:18cleanse these teams and I think that the the Yankees were taught
- 1:14:22a lesson and I. There it is.
- 1:14:24OK, I was wondering where the where you're connecting the
- 1:14:27dots? Here, But that's what I think.
- 1:14:28There's a lesson that's being taught and I hope that there's
- 1:14:31these teams specifically in the postseason this year are being
- 1:14:35taught that lesson. And I don't know if I can sit
- 1:14:38here and speak the same way about the Tigers or the OR the
- 1:14:43Mariners and how they operate. The Mariners feel a little that
- 1:14:47way. They just have really good
- 1:14:49pitching. But it is this aspect of like I
- 1:14:54let's just watch good baseball, man.
- 1:14:57Let's put put bad on ball, run fast, take advantage, play good
- 1:15:05defense, Just play the game. We grew up watching Go Brewers.
- 1:15:16Let's go Brewers and I'm going to say Mariners.
- 1:15:23However, I'm going to, I'm going to give a lot of weight to to a
- 1:15:30Tiger's pick, a lot of consideration to a Tiger's pick
- 1:15:34if they figure out a way to pull this off in the ALCS.
- 1:15:38I'm I'm going to give consideration to an ALCS Tiger's
- 1:15:41pick if they figure out a way to pull this off.
- 1:15:44So I'm trying to say. I'm all I, I don't, I don't
- 1:15:50really care what happens on the outside anymore.
- 1:15:53I want the Mariners to win because I think the match up
- 1:15:56between them and the Blue Jays would be better, but I am full
- 1:16:01on Brew Crew. I'm with you.
- 1:16:03I think the Mariners Blue Jays series would be better
- 1:16:08objectively, but I I'm telling you, we're getting dangerously
- 1:16:13close. I I haven't assigned the team of
- 1:16:15destiny thing yet, but we're getting close to the tigers just
- 1:16:18being a team that figures out ways to win defies all logic.
- 1:16:23If they can, like I said, if they figure out a way to win
- 1:16:25Game 5, what's the? Deadline to assigning that, by
- 1:16:28the way. It doesn't.
- 1:16:31It doesn't always have to be assigned.
- 1:16:32We may, we may just go through this postseason and then not
- 1:16:35really be the case actually. OK, you know what?
- 1:16:40I don't love that. Fair.
- 1:16:41It's a fairpoint. That's a fairpoint.
- 1:16:43Well, I said I stand by what I said.
- 1:16:44There doesn't always have to be a team of destiny.
- 1:16:48If the Tigers win Game 5. If Tigers win Game five, that's.
- 1:16:51Team of Destiny. That's my team of destiny.
- 1:16:53But you can't there's there's no other pick that satisfies those
- 1:16:58conditions. I mean, look at the track, look
- 1:17:00at the path that they took to get here.
- 1:17:02Not even the pocket pancakes get you.
- 1:17:06No, we just talked last episode about the fact that the Brewers
- 1:17:09just good. They're like, so good they've
- 1:17:13been. Good all year, but that's what
- 1:17:15I'm you could argue that the Destiny has gone back a while.
- 1:17:19It did for the Nationals. I mean, I guess.
- 1:17:22Right, we can. Retroactive Destiny.
- 1:17:26No, the no, the Brewers have literally been good from the
- 1:17:30jump. The Nationals, What was it?
- 1:17:31What was that? They they?
- 1:17:32Lost the They got swept by the Yankees.
- 1:17:37We're a perseason team. That was the Torpedo Bat stuff
- 1:17:41and. They, oh, I was, I was listening
- 1:17:44to Milwaukee radio often after that.
- 1:17:47Series, no doubt. They were like, we're done,
- 1:17:51might as well. Get the cheese heads out.
- 1:17:53We're focused on the Packers. That's rational.
- 1:17:56That's what happened. And then what was the what was
- 1:17:59the Nationals? It was like night.
- 1:18:01Was it, what was the the record that everybody talked about?
- 1:18:04Was it 19 and 32 or something like that?
- 1:18:07They had played like 50 games. Same thing.
- 1:18:11Brewers been goods from the jump.
- 1:18:13That's all I'm going to say. All right, it's time to get out
- 1:18:16of here. Yeah.
- 1:18:18I got to go to bed. It's literally one in the
- 1:18:19morning. Hello.
- 1:18:22We'll see you guys after the CS has started.
- 1:18:27Yeah, we'll have to just, I'm going to have to text you, get
- 1:18:30your picks so I can put the graphic out because we're
- 1:18:32there's no way we're doing a pod.
- 1:18:34On a wedding. Saturday night, I mean, maybe,
- 1:18:38who knows, Maybe we'll get weird.
- 1:18:39Oh, real quick, though, Speaking of CS, we are.
- 1:18:44We're finally in Seattle. We we are going to be live
- 1:18:53streaming. Yes, we're.
- 1:18:57Going to be live streaming. We got to pick a day.
- 1:18:58It took us a minute, took us a minute, but we're going to be
- 1:19:01live streaming at some point during, during the, the CS.
- 1:19:04We'll we'll figure it out. We'll put it out there.
- 1:19:07Yeah. We'll just be watching ball
- 1:19:09hanging out, so come hang out with hang out with us.
- 1:19:12Roll right into a pod up. Maybe.
- 1:19:16Maybe. Maybe not.
- 1:19:20See you in Seattle. Nope.
- 1:19:26Let's go, Brewers. Yes.
- 1:19:29Favorite casserole? Broccoli cheese, Chicken.
- 1:19:34Oh, so glad you didn't say green bean.
- 1:19:37I was. I was.
- 1:19:38I'll leave it, it's just it's not my favorite.
- 1:19:40Not my favorite. Super overrated.
- 1:19:44Super overrated. You want to just hang out for
- 1:19:47another like half hour and just talk casseroles?
- 1:19:49You get in on that a little bit. Yeah, I, I.
- 1:19:53No, we're not doing this. We're not doing this.
- 1:19:56Chicken, broccoli and rice. And then there's like.
- 1:19:59A Oh yeah, sorry, throw rice into mine, whatever.
- 1:20:01I. Say, yeah, the rice in there and
- 1:20:03then like like a cream of like a cream of mushroom and saucy, put
- 1:20:09that sucker in there for 45 minutes.
- 1:20:12Yeah. That's it.
- 1:20:15That's all you got to do. That's it baby, you can eat for
- 1:20:18a week. What happened to us?
- 1:20:21Where did the casseroles go? What happened to this country?
- 1:20:25We need more casseroles. Milwaukee the The look the
- 1:20:30casseroles fall solely on your shoulders.
- 1:20:34The future of casseroles fall solely on your shoulders.
- 1:20:37Yeah, let's go Brewers. Don't go chasing.
- 1:20:40Go balls, love. You and as always, looking
- 1:20:41forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:20:43Until next time, stay filthy.
