- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Spoiling Me
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episode six oh four to six oh
- 0:13Speaker 1: six get to Building R, the Pirate Alliance's great advance,
- 0:19Speaker 1: to Shigi's tears, G five's desperate breakthrough plan, and the
- 0:24Speaker 1: treacherous Vice Admiral Demon Bamboo Virgo in these episodes. So
- 0:34Speaker 1: now we're just gonna let the gas into the building
- 0:38Speaker 1: and t Shigi. I really felt bad for her, you know,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I've been sort of lukewarm on her these past couple times,
- 0:46Speaker 1: but she's trying and Virgo, dude, what is what is
- 0:51Speaker 1: your deal? Though? Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the
- 1:14Speaker 1: show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 1:17Speaker 1: Florian for commissioning this episode. Florian is here in the
- 1:21Speaker 1: chat because I had to put off my recording by
- 1:24Speaker 1: a day because I fucked up and only watched two
- 1:26Speaker 1: of the three episodes I was meant to. But it
- 1:29Speaker 1: worked out so that Florian was able to be here
- 1:30Speaker 1: because you couldn't come yesterday. So I guess all's well
- 1:33Speaker 1: that ends well. So when I started my recording yesterday,
- 1:38Speaker 1: I began with an like a recap of sort of
- 1:42Speaker 1: what I had been expecting versus what we were getting.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And since I got sort of wrapped up in that,
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm going to go ahead and start with that again,
- 1:55Speaker 1: just to I thought that having a gas outside is
- 2:01Speaker 1: actually kind of a fun narrative device because what it
- 2:04Speaker 1: does is makes it so that you can't just run
- 2:06Speaker 1: outside willy nilly. The whole situation and fight has to
- 2:13Speaker 1: be kept in so that we don't expose ourselves to this,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and that means that we're limiting a lot, which is
- 2:22Speaker 1: always a good thing if you're trying to increase tension
- 2:25Speaker 1: in any situation, in like a story. Making it so
- 2:30Speaker 1: that certain things are more difficult because they have stronger
- 2:35Speaker 1: parameters that you can't break. That's always going to you know,
- 2:39Speaker 1: any just adding boundaries to anything is going to make
- 2:45Speaker 1: them more difficult. But because of that, it enforces you,
- 2:51Speaker 1: as a writer or even as a character in the story,
- 2:55Speaker 1: to be a little bit more creative with what you
- 2:57Speaker 1: choose to do. So I I thought that what we
- 3:01Speaker 1: were doing was just having this gas outside so that
- 3:05Speaker 1: it would be a lot more tricky, since we couldn't
- 3:10Speaker 1: just exit the building whenever we wanted, and instead we're
- 3:15Speaker 1: getting this whole other thing where we are letting the
- 3:21Speaker 1: gas inside and creating a threat on the interior as well,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and that is totally unexpected. I knew that there was
- 3:33Speaker 1: the potential for the gas to get inside because when
- 3:37Speaker 1: our friends finally made it in, they busted a hole
- 3:39Speaker 1: in the wall, right, So I really figured that was
- 3:42Speaker 1: going to be Maybe some of it was that part
- 3:45Speaker 1: of the wall being broken was going to allow gas
- 3:48Speaker 1: to chase our people a certain distance. But the idea
- 3:52Speaker 1: of like Caesar clown himself being like, no, no, no,
- 3:56Speaker 1: let's let it in, like purposely just saying that this
- 4:01Speaker 1: is how we're going to approach things next didn't occur
- 4:04Speaker 1: to me. And what I really like about it, it's
- 4:07Speaker 1: not just that Caesar is like, oh, yeah, let's open
- 4:11Speaker 1: this up to the gas because I want to kill
- 4:15Speaker 1: my enemies because they are my enemies. It's let me
- 4:20Speaker 1: open this up to kill my enemies because I'm trying
- 4:24Speaker 1: to make a fucking sale here. And I said that
- 4:27Speaker 1: we were going to have a field of corpses, and
- 4:30Speaker 1: then the smoke clears and there's nobody out there, and
- 4:34Speaker 1: that does not make me look good at all. So
- 4:37Speaker 1: now I'm embarrassed and I have to fix the mistake,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and I find that to be a really kind of
- 4:45Speaker 1: hilarious motivation. That he is literally just trying to create
- 4:50Speaker 1: an adequate sales pitch brochure or you know, short video
- 4:56Speaker 1: and is so pissed at the fact that the thing
- 4:59Speaker 1: he thought he was accomplishing now he looks like a
- 5:03Speaker 1: fucking joke. You know. Ell, life comes at you fast, Caesar.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Sometimes you just you know, sometimes you just fuck up
- 5:10Speaker 1: my guy. And it's kind of funny because like he
- 5:17Speaker 1: seems to really think that nobody is going to take
- 5:19Speaker 1: him seriously because there aren't these piles of corpses, and
- 5:24Speaker 1: you know, perhaps he's correct, but I also felt like
- 5:29Speaker 1: there weren't tons of people out there, but it's not
- 5:33Speaker 1: like there was nobody and those people are turned into stone.
- 5:38Speaker 1: So I feel like what he's trying to show them
- 5:42Speaker 1: his item does. I feel like he succeeded in showing that,
- 5:48Speaker 1: So it's just that the effect isn't quite as utterly
- 5:54Speaker 1: dramatic as he was thinking it would be. But I
- 5:58Speaker 1: don't feel like he needs to be real acting this way.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I don't know, it's not really like they're not Maybe
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'm wrong about this, but to me, they're looking to
- 6:10Speaker 1: see what your weapon can do, and they saw that
- 6:13Speaker 1: whether or not you as a as an attacker is
- 6:20Speaker 1: super competent isn't really the thing that they are concerned with,
- 6:25Speaker 1: right I didn't think so. Even if you didn't manage
- 6:28Speaker 1: to kill all of these people, that's not a fault
- 6:31Speaker 1: of the product. That's a fault of your planning, which
- 6:33Speaker 1: is a different thing. But he's sort of packaging at
- 6:36Speaker 1: all as one item, which I guess sort of makes
- 6:41Speaker 1: sense if you're trying to suggest to people that, like
- 6:44Speaker 1: I am the person to come to if you want
- 6:46Speaker 1: to get things done, and it looks like maybe he isn't.
- 6:50Speaker 1: But I was under the impression he's just gonna sell
- 6:53Speaker 1: this to somebody and he won't be the one operating
- 6:56Speaker 1: the thing. He's just going to be the one that's
- 6:59Speaker 1: that's selling it, and they are going to be responsible
- 7:02Speaker 1: for creating whatever attack. You know, but it doesn't really matter.
- 7:08Speaker 1: This is his motivation and his ego is clearly very
- 7:11Speaker 1: tied up in this whole thing. Oh my god, Florian,
- 7:15Speaker 1: his name is clown. Of course, he looks like a joke.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I walked right into that one. You're fired, sir, Get out.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I also want to mention that when we have that
- 7:26Speaker 1: like slow pan around the whole island with the like
- 7:33Speaker 1: fog of gas, it's a pretty prolonged, drawn out pan,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and you know, normally that sort of thing can kind
- 7:44Speaker 1: of irritate me. But the soundtrack during that pan is
- 7:52Speaker 1: so lovely that I was like, no, make it twice
- 7:56Speaker 1: as long. It's a sort of like tinkling. It's meant
- 8:00Speaker 1: to be kind of spooky, right the music, and what
- 8:03Speaker 1: it made me think of was the kinds of like
- 8:07Speaker 1: Halloween themed music that people use on TikTok. I, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 1: do resin art and polymer clay stuff. So I follow
- 8:17Speaker 1: a lot of artists who will make seasonal items and
- 8:20Speaker 1: they will put whatever appropriate music over. And I've been
- 8:24Speaker 1: running across a lot of like spooky chimy bing bing
- 8:29Speaker 1: bing binging kind of like you know, and this I
- 8:33Speaker 1: was like, is this song on TikTok because this would
- 8:35Speaker 1: suit really well for that sort of thing. I don't
- 8:39Speaker 1: know if it's been used on the show before, but
- 8:41Speaker 1: if it has been, it's not super frequent. The only
- 8:45Speaker 1: other time that I could see this music working out
- 8:48Speaker 1: is like in Killer Bark, maybe because that was so
- 8:53Speaker 1: clearly meant to be a sort of, you know, horror
- 8:57Speaker 1: movie vibe, but otherwise this is not something that I
- 9:01Speaker 1: remember being used on the show very much, and I
- 9:04Speaker 1: just really really liked it. So anyway, Also, the guys
- 9:12Speaker 1: who are in the building where they broke through the wall,
- 9:16Speaker 1: those dudes are extremely pissed off at the fact that
- 9:22Speaker 1: our friends busted in and put all of these guys
- 9:26Speaker 1: in danger along with themselves, and I really couldn't help
- 9:30Speaker 1: it laugh. Eventually they actually say this in the dialogue,
- 9:34Speaker 1: but our friends are the ones who broke the wall,
- 9:38Speaker 1: and then when all of the Marines are yelling at
- 9:41Speaker 1: them and trying to patch the hole, our guys don't
- 9:46Speaker 1: help at all. It's like they're puzzled at why everybody's
- 9:51Speaker 1: freaking out. Really, and I couldn't help it laugh because
- 9:55Speaker 1: y'all are. And this is like an ongoing theme in
- 10:00Speaker 1: this section, which I did find actually increasingly funny. But
- 10:06Speaker 1: there's just a sense of them really not wanting to
- 10:10Speaker 1: bother themselves, and the conversation that they have with brown
- 10:15Speaker 1: Beard later because eventually, like brown Beard at first, when
- 10:20Speaker 1: they are running and they're saying like, thank you so
- 10:24Speaker 1: much for your help, brown Beard is really like, oh,
- 10:28Speaker 1: don't mention it. Glad to be able to help. But
- 10:32Speaker 1: then you get into like the third episode of the
- 10:35Speaker 1: three of these, and he's like, guys, this is getting
- 10:39Speaker 1: pretty heavy. You think any of you want to jump
- 10:42Speaker 1: down and maybe like run on your own And we
- 10:46Speaker 1: get a joke that is just I think it's all
- 10:52Speaker 1: the funnier because it's coming from Zoro. But Zoro is like, hey, man,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I'm really sorry, but we have our reasons for not running,
- 11:00Speaker 1: and he says, well, they better be good ones, and
- 11:03Speaker 1: Zoro says, oh, they're very good ones. And then there's
- 11:06Speaker 1: this long pause and he just goes, we've been running
- 11:10Speaker 1: all day and now we don't want to anymore.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Oh my god, guys, that really hit for me because
- 11:21Speaker 2: I have just started like this training thing, this like
- 11:24Speaker 2: personal training thing, and uh yeah, that fatigue is real.
- 11:31Speaker 1: That just fucking got me really, really bad. I'm jumping
- 11:33Speaker 1: all over the place here a little bit. I'm sorry
- 11:35Speaker 1: about that, but like just you know, touching on the
- 11:38Speaker 1: things that I was the most tickled by in this episode. So,
- 11:45Speaker 1: oh my god, I forgot about how after the apparently
- 11:50Speaker 1: Gas has done its thing right before Caesar has realized
- 11:54Speaker 1: that the corpses out there are not what he was expecting.
- 11:58Speaker 1: He goes on because, you know, the I have to
- 12:01Speaker 1: assume it's the same in the sub because this is
- 12:03Speaker 1: something that it doesn't seem like the translation really changes.
- 12:07Speaker 1: But you know how every character who's like a big
- 12:10Speaker 1: villain has his own weird kind of vocal tick, and
- 12:16Speaker 1: his is that he laughs like I think it's it's
- 12:23Speaker 1: an R sound. I may be doing it. Maybe it's
- 12:25Speaker 1: an L sound, but he normally he does like a
- 12:30Speaker 1: little bit of that. And then we move on and
- 12:33Speaker 1: in this section he just laughs over and over and over,
- 12:40Speaker 1: and I all I could wonder was whether the voice
- 12:48Speaker 1: actor started to be like, oh my god, this is
- 12:50Speaker 1: going on forever, like I am. I'm sure that when
- 12:57Speaker 1: you are this kind of voice actor, there are certain
- 13:01Speaker 1: things that you find tedious to do. One of them,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I'm assuming is screaming in pain, right, because that probably
- 13:11Speaker 1: can really wreck your voice your throat. Screaming does a
- 13:15Speaker 1: number on your throat. But are there things that aren't
- 13:19Speaker 1: actually like painful or damaging that voice actors are just like,
- 13:24Speaker 1: oh God, now I gotta do this. You know, is
- 13:27Speaker 1: there a particular character that the voice actors were like,
- 13:31Speaker 1: I hated doing this guy. This sucked like it was
- 13:35Speaker 1: really hard. I never really seem to get the hang
- 13:37Speaker 1: of it. And I would love to ask them about
- 13:41Speaker 1: their experience with all these characters, because they are all
- 13:44Speaker 1: doing really different things and there has got to be,
- 13:49Speaker 1: you know, some some moments here and there where they're
- 13:52Speaker 1: just like, this show is going to be the death
- 13:55Speaker 1: of me. But anyway, I also love fact that Brooke
- 14:01Speaker 1: is able to like go out into the outside using
- 14:06Speaker 1: his like ghosty spirit power. What do we call that?
- 14:10Speaker 1: I know that they tend to have like names for
- 14:12Speaker 1: things for the abilities that our characters use, and it's
- 14:18Speaker 1: probably been said, but I just don't recall, but you
- 14:21Speaker 1: know how he can sort of project his spirit out
- 14:24Speaker 1: and it just waves that it like still attached by
- 14:28Speaker 1: one end to his body. But yeah, since it's not
- 14:32Speaker 1: his actual well, even if it were his body, I'm
- 14:36Speaker 1: assuming his body wouldn't get hurt either, because he's just
- 14:39Speaker 1: a skeleton. But I may be wrong, because people get
- 14:42Speaker 1: turned to stone, and it looked like when we did
- 14:44Speaker 1: that slow pan, all the buildings, like inanimate objects also
- 14:49Speaker 1: got turned to stone. It doesn't seem like you have
- 14:51Speaker 1: to be alive for it to affect you, which is
- 14:56Speaker 1: pretty interesting actually, that we are like not just making
- 15:00Speaker 1: it so that our friends can be affected by something,
- 15:04Speaker 1: but also that the inanimate objects out there that you
- 15:09Speaker 1: might use, even if you're in a hazmat suit and
- 15:12Speaker 1: you're like living in a building, that you are safe
- 15:18Speaker 1: because you're in this suit. I'm assuming like the suit
- 15:23Speaker 1: would be turned to stone as well, so there's no
- 15:26Speaker 1: real escape no matter what. Just being out in it,
- 15:33Speaker 1: it's gonna be too dangerous, right, So yeah, maybe Brooke
- 15:38Speaker 1: can't actually leave, but anyway, he uses this to go
- 15:41Speaker 1: and see what's going on out there. When they ask
- 15:44Speaker 1: him how does it look, he says bleak and ravaged,
- 15:48Speaker 1: like something from a nightmare. To think what would have
- 15:51Speaker 1: happened to us if we hadn't plugged the hole, And
- 15:56Speaker 1: he says it's truly terrifying, and the Marines are looking
- 16:00Speaker 1: at him, going, you're terrifying. So this is when Zoro says, hmmm, good,
- 16:11Speaker 1: there's all good about this, And you didn't even help
- 16:13Speaker 1: us plug up the hole. You guys have pissed us
- 16:16Speaker 1: off one too many times. Play nice straw hats or
- 16:19Speaker 1: will blow your heads off you too, brown Beard. So Yeah,
- 16:24Speaker 1: they're cornered in this place with all these marines. I
- 16:26Speaker 1: love the different reactions and like Oosup is like, well
- 16:30Speaker 1: there's nowhere to go. Zoro is like, all right now,
- 16:34Speaker 1: we're gonna fucking get down to it. Even the fucking
- 16:37Speaker 1: dragon is over here, like grinning a little bit. I you, guys.
- 16:41Speaker 1: We find out later that this dragon has been sedated,
- 16:47Speaker 1: obviously not to the degree that he is rendered unconscious,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but he has been given the equivalent of like a
- 16:53Speaker 1: really strong Prozac. Is the energy that I'm getting, and
- 16:59Speaker 1: so I eventually when we have our our the moment
- 17:06Speaker 1: when he comes back to himself at full energy. This
- 17:11Speaker 1: dude is not as cooperative as he seemed. At first,
- 17:17Speaker 1: I thought that this dragon was like a personal friend
- 17:22Speaker 1: of Caesar Clown. Like I know that sounds idiotic to
- 17:27Speaker 1: say it that way, but I really do. I'm being
- 17:31Speaker 1: honest with you guys. That basically my interpretation was that
- 17:35Speaker 1: Caesar Clown raised this dragon from a baby, and the
- 17:41Speaker 1: dragon was loyal to Caesar as a pet would be.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And finding out that like, no, he just stated this
- 17:50Speaker 1: dragon to pull that cart, and then the dragon was
- 17:56Speaker 1: meant to just I guess die. The dragon wasn't supposed
- 17:59Speaker 1: to go back into the building, right. So you guys,
- 18:05Speaker 1: there's some moments you ever have this where you're like
- 18:08Speaker 1: about to say something and you're like, that's a fucked
- 18:10Speaker 1: up thing to say. But I have to be real
- 18:13Speaker 1: with y'all. I know that Caesar Clown is out here
- 18:17Speaker 1: trying to kill all of these marines, our straw hat friends.
- 18:22Speaker 1: He's killing like all the wildlife on the island, the fish,
- 18:26Speaker 1: the birds. But realizing that he was just about to
- 18:30Speaker 1: let that poor dragon die. That has just got me
- 18:34Speaker 1: my feelings a little bit. Y'all know, I have just
- 18:36Speaker 1: such a weak spot for the creatures in this show.
- 18:41Speaker 1: And even though the dragon is like meant to be
- 18:44Speaker 1: kind of an antagonist, but he's so adorable and like
- 18:49Speaker 1: Nami says that herself later, she's like, but I think
- 18:51Speaker 1: he's kind of cute though, and he gets all like
- 18:53Speaker 1: blushy and like all shooks, and I was like, see, yes,
- 18:57Speaker 1: that is adorable. I'm kind of hoping that maybe he'll,
- 19:03Speaker 1: because of what Nami said, sort of be saying he'll
- 19:11Speaker 1: be their friend. I feel like that's too strong, but
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm sort of wondering if maybe he'll go a little
- 19:16Speaker 1: easy on them due to that. I don't know, y'all.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I'm probably just like getting a little bit over excited
- 19:25Speaker 1: about it. It's just any time that we have a
- 19:28Speaker 1: creature that is potentially something that our friends can can
- 19:36Speaker 1: get some help from, and that it's a creature that
- 19:39Speaker 1: could be saved from a terrible fate. I want a
- 19:43Speaker 1: team up, you know. I want our friends to like
- 19:47Speaker 1: And I don't really know what this could even be.
- 19:51Speaker 1: It never works long term. They're always huge animals and
- 19:55Speaker 1: they can't really like follow our friends' places. So he
- 19:58Speaker 1: would stay on this island anyway, Like, what do I want?
- 20:00Speaker 1: You know? Anyway? I'm sorry, I'm getting off track again,
- 20:04Speaker 1: but yeah, so everybody is starting to get ready to
- 20:08Speaker 1: throw down with these marines. I love that Brown beards
- 20:11Speaker 1: reaction is just, oh, they heard of me. That's like
- 20:15Speaker 1: he's so proud of himself. So Law is the one
- 20:22Speaker 1: who chimes in. He's over here talking to Smoker and
- 20:27Speaker 1: he says, you're not gonna interfere with me or straw
- 20:31Speaker 1: Hat right like his crew and me separate thing. And
- 20:35Speaker 1: Smoker says, okay, because Law and Loofy are up in
- 20:39Speaker 1: the sort of rafters there's like these walkways. So Nammy,
- 20:45Speaker 1: who is down there next to Sanjy, is yelling, please
- 20:49Speaker 1: switch us back. Law. Of course Sonji tries to say
- 20:53Speaker 1: not to do that, but Law goes ahead switches them back,
- 20:58Speaker 1: and Nami realizes that she isn't wearing what she had
- 21:01Speaker 1: been wearing. So her assumption, understandably is that Soanji took
- 21:09Speaker 1: off all her clothes at some point. Now, he did
- 21:13Speaker 1: take off some of her clothes, but it was not
- 21:16Speaker 1: what it looks like. I can understand her feeling that way. Sonji.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Once he goes back into his own body after the
- 21:24Speaker 1: you know, the beatings that she's been through, he is
- 21:28Speaker 1: in some pain and is like, wait, what the hell
- 21:32Speaker 1: happened to me? All my entire body hurts and way
- 21:37Speaker 1: more than one punch from her should have been And
- 21:40Speaker 1: Usup says that was Caesar. He beat Nami pretty badly actually,
- 21:45Speaker 1: and Sanji starts crying and says, I'm so glad he
- 21:52Speaker 1: hurt my body and not hers, and Usup says, you
- 21:56Speaker 1: truly are a prince among men and starts crying. Y'all,
- 22:01Speaker 1: this is one of those things that's like when I
- 22:04Speaker 1: was younger and more foolish I would have taken this
- 22:09Speaker 1: as sort of chivalry, and now I can see it
- 22:12Speaker 1: for what it is. He wants an AMI's body for
- 22:15Speaker 1: his own reasons to remain pretty and unharmed. This is
- 22:20Speaker 1: not altruism, This is not him actually caring about her
- 22:24Speaker 1: as a person, really, you know. So this is when
- 22:29Speaker 1: Law tells everybody, I know that you guys want to
- 22:34Speaker 1: get the fuck out of here, and we are like
- 22:39Speaker 1: trapped in this building. But there is a way out,
- 22:42Speaker 1: a passage that leads out to the sea and is
- 22:45Speaker 1: completely enclosed. And he says that they're currently in building A.
- 22:52Speaker 1: That B is the next section with the main laboratory,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and that's the biggest and then after that you want
- 23:00Speaker 1: to go to the central part of the laboratory, where
- 23:03Speaker 1: you'll find building R. Y'all, I was so confused why
- 23:10Speaker 1: we're jumping from AB to R. When you see the map,
- 23:14Speaker 1: there is a building C and D, but they're flanking R,
- 23:20Speaker 1: and I was like, what is why name these after
- 23:23Speaker 1: the alphabet and like in order if we're just gonna
- 23:26Speaker 1: immediately do away with that convention jump to R. But
- 23:29Speaker 1: he says there's a building marked R sixty six and
- 23:34Speaker 1: that is the entrance to the passage that leads to
- 23:37Speaker 1: the c I'd rather not massacre everybody here. So here's
- 23:41Speaker 1: the deal. You have two hours to find your way out,
- 23:45Speaker 1: and if not, I can't guarantee your safety. And he
- 23:49Speaker 1: just walks away. Of course, the Marines are just like,
- 23:52Speaker 1: what the fuck You're just leaving us here, But honestly,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I kind of understand, just being like, dudes, figure it out.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I told you what you need to know, and Law says,
- 24:03Speaker 1: I have to go do what I have to do,
- 24:05Speaker 1: and he leaves Lufy and Robin, and Lufy asked Robin
- 24:08Speaker 1: to do him a favor. By the end of this
- 24:11Speaker 1: trio of episodes, she has completed the mission he sends
- 24:14Speaker 1: her on, but we don't get to find out what
- 24:18Speaker 1: that actually is. So Smoker is yelling down at the
- 24:23Speaker 1: men like, I, guys, I know that you want to
- 24:27Speaker 1: just get out of here, but there are a bunch
- 24:29Speaker 1: of kids that have been kidnapped, and before we can leave,
- 24:35Speaker 1: we have to find them and get all the kids
- 24:39Speaker 1: together head for the place that Law just mentioned, will
- 24:44Speaker 1: steal a ship and then we will get the fuck
- 24:46Speaker 1: out of here. And all of these men are like,
- 24:49Speaker 1: bet absolutely, so Eventually, Smoker goes off on his own
- 24:59Speaker 1: because he wants to deal with Virgo, and it's a
- 25:04Speaker 1: little bit of like moment between him and Tashigi, because
- 25:09Speaker 1: Tashigi understandably feels like, dude, you have to stay with us,
- 25:14Speaker 1: like this is you know, we're all in this together,
- 25:18Speaker 1: and this situation is we are dealing with a guy
- 25:24Speaker 1: who has a lot of abilities and he's got a
- 25:27Speaker 1: lot of backing, not just you know, other people don't
- 25:32Speaker 1: know what a trader he is. What Smoker says, and
- 25:39Speaker 1: I thought this was interesting. He says, basically, I want
- 25:47Speaker 1: to get this motherfucker because I know that they are
- 25:51Speaker 1: not going to punish him the way he needs, like
- 25:54Speaker 1: he's too high ranking to be held to responsibility adequately.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And it's sort of it caught me off guard a
- 26:03Speaker 1: little bit because I have imagined Smoker as being very
- 26:08Speaker 1: much like the buy the books guy, you know, he'll
- 26:13Speaker 1: he just seems to really want to follow rules, and
- 26:17Speaker 1: so the fact that he admits out loud that the
- 26:21Speaker 1: law isn't going to do enough when it comes to
- 26:25Speaker 1: this guy, I didn't see that coming. It just felt
- 26:30Speaker 1: like a confession of a lack of faith in the law.
- 26:35Speaker 1: That I hadn't really seen from him before. So I
- 26:42Speaker 1: fully endorse his attempt to like take things into his
- 26:46Speaker 1: own hands, really because I think that's just facing facts
- 26:50Speaker 1: about the way the government works, you know. But he
- 26:55Speaker 1: is working for the Marines, so the fact that he
- 26:58Speaker 1: seems to have so little faith in what they do
- 27:02Speaker 1: and how they handle criminals of this magnitude that's not
- 27:11Speaker 1: is this new, I guess is my main question, like,
- 27:15Speaker 1: is this a change in his character or has he
- 27:19Speaker 1: always kind of been this guy And I just haven't
- 27:22Speaker 1: really seen it because he's always been up against actual
- 27:27Speaker 1: pirates and so he didn't have to worry about the
- 27:30Speaker 1: law being unequal. I'm not sure, you know, we haven't
- 27:35Speaker 1: spent that much time with Smoker really and there's just
- 27:40Speaker 1: been a big gap in there as well. So, yeah,
- 27:46Speaker 1: he takes off, leaves Tashigi in charge, and I'm gonna
- 27:51Speaker 1: kind of jump ahead a little bit here, but eventually,
- 27:55Speaker 1: when the gas gets let in, Tashigi's men are very
- 28:00Speaker 1: worried for her safety and she is like trying to
- 28:03Speaker 1: rescue everybody, of course, and her men basically go and
- 28:10Speaker 1: grip her up and carry her out of harm's way
- 28:13Speaker 1: as the gas continues to, you know, slide in, and
- 28:19Speaker 1: a bunch of her men do get caught up in it,
- 28:22Speaker 1: and they get turned to stone, and she is really upset, understandably,
- 28:29Speaker 1: and she's feeling a bit of a way about the
- 28:31Speaker 1: fact that these dudes all like low key ignored her orders.
- 28:36Speaker 1: And as much as I understand, because they're all like
- 28:40Speaker 1: kind of cheering for themselves, like, yay, we saved our captain,
- 28:45Speaker 1: And as much as I believe that that is their
- 28:48Speaker 1: intent here, I'm not trying to say that they're like
- 28:52Speaker 1: pretending to have a different motive than they do, But
- 28:57Speaker 1: I'm curious what y'all think. I just don't feel like
- 29:01Speaker 1: they would have done this to smoke her. I think
- 29:06Speaker 1: that the suggestion is meant to be that, like, oh,
- 29:10Speaker 1: the guys care about her so much, but the fact
- 29:16Speaker 1: that they just ignore a direct order from her is
- 29:21Speaker 1: hitting me a different way. It just feels like they
- 29:24Speaker 1: are behaving as if they know better than her in
- 29:27Speaker 1: a way that I don't think they would have acted
- 29:30Speaker 1: if she were a man. That's basically where I'm coming
- 29:34Speaker 1: down on this is that, like I'm supposed to sort
- 29:37Speaker 1: of see what they did as being noble and heroic,
- 29:44Speaker 1: and instead I'm kind of irritated because I'm like, she
- 29:47Speaker 1: gets to make a sacrifice if she thinks that's the
- 29:50Speaker 1: thing she needs to do. She has been put in charge,
- 29:54Speaker 1: and there have been many people in charge who have
- 29:57Speaker 1: made choices that I don't think are necessarily the best.
- 30:02Speaker 1: And their men do it because they are ordered to
- 30:04Speaker 1: and they are meant to be loyal, and they obey
- 30:09Speaker 1: without question. And I just don't really know about the
- 30:17Speaker 1: depiction of this here. It just feels to me like
- 30:20Speaker 1: I am supposed to be pleased with their behavior and
- 30:25Speaker 1: recognize that she was going to do something stupid and
- 30:28Speaker 1: that they stopped her from it. And while I think
- 30:31Speaker 1: ultimately that is actually correct, I just can't help but
- 30:36Speaker 1: imagine how this would have gone if Smoker had insisted
- 30:40Speaker 1: on going back. I don't see his men picking Smoker
- 30:44Speaker 1: up and carrying him out of there while he yells
- 30:46Speaker 1: at them not to do this, you know. So anyway,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I just have just kind of a vibe about that.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong. Oh Florian's In the chat, Florian says
- 30:58Speaker 1: he also ran after Luf into the Grand Line, even
- 31:02Speaker 1: though the Marines said this is not his area. Oh,
- 31:06Speaker 1: I don't remember that, but okay. Also, he let Lufy
- 31:09Speaker 1: get away in Alabasta one time, so yeah, he is
- 31:12Speaker 1: not always by the books. He let Lufy get away
- 31:15Speaker 1: in Alabasta, Florian, I gotta be honest, I'm not remembering.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I believe you, I definitely believe you, but I'm so
- 31:25Speaker 1: it's been so long that those instances I feel like
- 31:30Speaker 1: I should remember and I don't. But okay, I appreciate
- 31:34Speaker 1: you giving me some information to kind of support what
- 31:39Speaker 1: he's doing right now. So this is not new behavior,
- 31:42Speaker 1: all right, I appreciate it. So all right, this Lufy
- 31:48Speaker 1: is ready to get into this fight with Caesar. He
- 31:51Speaker 1: says that he's gonna kidnap Caesar, which I'm very interested
- 31:55Speaker 1: in what exactly he is planning to do. And this
- 32:01Speaker 1: is when we get the moment of Caesar looking outside
- 32:04Speaker 1: and realizing that the corpses aren't out there, and he
- 32:08Speaker 1: is really pleased with himself until the smoke clears, and
- 32:13Speaker 1: I love the expression that he gets on his face.
- 32:16Speaker 1: There's something like, because he has that very wide mouth
- 32:19Speaker 1: but a narrow face, he really looks like Mick Jagger
- 32:24Speaker 1: sometimes and especially when he frowns, and it is sort
- 32:28Speaker 1: of like, wait, I don't understand what's going on. So
- 32:32Speaker 1: this is when Vega Virgo starts chiming in. I don't
- 32:39Speaker 1: remember if I mentioned in the last section, but I'm
- 32:43Speaker 1: gonna now. Vigo has a spoon stuck to his face
- 32:47Speaker 1: that I guess is from when he was like drinking
- 32:49Speaker 1: that coffee, and eventually when we get flashbacks with him
- 32:54Speaker 1: and Tashigi, he's got something stuck to his face, and
- 32:59Speaker 1: all of her flashbacks it seems like it's usually a
- 33:03Speaker 1: lollipop or something. The fact that this is like his thing,
- 33:09Speaker 1: that he just has stuff stuck to his face is
- 33:13Speaker 1: so weird, Like I don't even know what to do
- 33:16Speaker 1: with this. It's not like okay. So first of all,
- 33:23Speaker 1: it's such a silly, goofy thing to a character who
- 33:28Speaker 1: is otherwise so tough, and I know that that's on purpose,
- 33:32Speaker 1: but it does make me giggle. And then there's also
- 33:36Speaker 1: he later on is like, that's strange. I can't seem
- 33:40Speaker 1: to find my sword and oh what is her name? Monet?
- 33:49Speaker 1: You guys, When he's like I can't find my sword,
- 33:51Speaker 1: I didn't think anything of it. I was just like, oh,
- 33:54Speaker 1: where's the sword? Then did somebody steal it like that
- 33:57Speaker 1: was my first thought was maybe somebody took it off him,
- 34:01Speaker 1: and then Monette has to say that's because you're not
- 34:04Speaker 1: a swordsman, and he says, oh, that's right. Well anyway,
- 34:13Speaker 1: what is this? What are we doing? Oh my god,
- 34:18Speaker 1: it's so goofy y'all. I I just this is so silly.
- 34:23Speaker 1: It's so silly. What is this? Just random stuff stuck
- 34:29Speaker 1: to his face? And then literally like forgetting who he
- 34:33Speaker 1: is as a person intermittently. I I what I'm waiting
- 34:39Speaker 1: for is to see whether or not this is his downfall,
- 34:46Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like, is it going to
- 34:48Speaker 1: turn out that he fucks up on something because he
- 34:54Speaker 1: is so absent minded? I like, I'm saying I have
- 35:00Speaker 1: some mind it because it's the best I can do
- 35:02Speaker 1: in terms of describing this. But it feels like that
- 35:06Speaker 1: word is not adequate his like it's giving dementia. It's
- 35:12Speaker 1: giving like low level forgetting who I am, kind of
- 35:17Speaker 1: alzheimer'sy dementia. And I am extremely curious whether this is
- 35:24Speaker 1: going to be anything or not, because it's not always
- 35:28Speaker 1: We run into characters with bizarre behaviors like this all
- 35:33Speaker 1: the time in this series, right, and it'll often just
- 35:37Speaker 1: be sort of played for a laugh in the moment,
- 35:41Speaker 1: which is, well, that's fine. But a lot of times
- 35:46Speaker 1: these sorts of things are much more like a side villain.
- 35:51Speaker 1: And there's something about Virgo that's making me think he's
- 35:54Speaker 1: gonna graduate to main villain. And I may not be
- 35:58Speaker 1: correct about that, who knows, But I feel like this
- 36:04Speaker 1: stuff about him is so bizarre that I kind of
- 36:07Speaker 1: want it to matter more, you know what I'm saying.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I don't know. I just was flabbergasted by this, and
- 36:17Speaker 1: I guess I talked about Tashii mostly already. I'm just
- 36:20Speaker 1: gonna wrap up on her whole thing because her flashbacks
- 36:24Speaker 1: are It's sort of funny, you guys. It to me
- 36:27Speaker 1: really looked like this bitch was eaten to him, Like
- 36:32Speaker 1: I feel like she had a crush on Vigo. Now
- 36:35Speaker 1: I may be wrong. There have also been times where
- 36:37Speaker 1: it sort of felt like Tashigi was into Smoker way back,
- 36:42Speaker 1: but I just don't feel that way anymore. But I
- 36:46Speaker 1: really really the vibe in the scene where some woman's
- 36:51Speaker 1: house has been blown up and they are trying to
- 36:55Speaker 1: not take any responsibility for it. These uh the marines
- 37:00Speaker 1: that she's speaking with, who are the same marines that
- 37:02Speaker 1: are like in the scene in the present. So it's
- 37:05Speaker 1: definitely meant to convey to us that, like, yeah, we
- 37:08Speaker 1: just you know, we go back a long way, all
- 37:11Speaker 1: of us. I don't know if we're supposed to have
- 37:15Speaker 1: an inkling as to why her home was blown up,
- 37:19Speaker 1: because the energy that I get is they actually did
- 37:25Speaker 1: have something to do with it, and they're acting like
- 37:28Speaker 1: they don't know what happened here. So when Virgo shows
- 37:32Speaker 1: up and is like, we'll make it right for you,
- 37:36Speaker 1: he is putting on a front for the sake of
- 37:39Speaker 1: ta Shigi standing right there. But actually, we all, like
- 37:46Speaker 1: the other people here, are aware how this happened, that
- 37:51Speaker 1: it probably is our fault and is our responsibility to fix,
- 37:55Speaker 1: and that we were just like pretending to have no
- 37:59Speaker 1: idea because we didn't want to bother And he is
- 38:03Speaker 1: coming into the scene to sort of correct the fact
- 38:05Speaker 1: that they aren't handling the pr aspect of this very well.
- 38:10Speaker 1: It's one thing that we're responsible for it. It's another
- 38:12Speaker 1: thing to be as visibly uncaring as you guys are being,
- 38:17Speaker 1: and we can't have that. And I am not sure
- 38:22Speaker 1: whether or not I'm reading that correctly, it just felt
- 38:27Speaker 1: like the other Marines that we saw in the same
- 38:31Speaker 1: area where these kids were disappearing were obviously like corrupt assholes.
- 38:37Speaker 1: So I'm sort of putting it as these dudes being
- 38:40Speaker 1: corrupt as well, but based on how genuinely shocked they
- 38:45Speaker 1: seem to be when Vergo turns a corner and is like,
- 38:51Speaker 1: you know, attacking them in that hallway later on, I
- 38:55Speaker 1: maybe it still makes sense because a part of me
- 38:58Speaker 1: was like, would they be that surprised? But yeah, I
- 39:01Speaker 1: think they would, because it's one thing to know somebody
- 39:03Speaker 1: is corrupt and they're corrupt on your side, you know
- 39:09Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like, this is a different thing now
- 39:12Speaker 1: that we're dealing with. If this guy is attacking our
- 39:15Speaker 1: own people and also doing it openly in front of everyone,
- 39:20Speaker 1: so now that's changing the game up. But it did
- 39:24Speaker 1: make me sort of feel like Tashigi has been putting
- 39:28Speaker 1: herself out there, like was about to sacrifice herself to
- 39:32Speaker 1: save these dudes before who potentially had been doing kind
- 39:38Speaker 1: of shitty things with Virgo, and she was not aware
- 39:42Speaker 1: of it, which is very sad to think about, you
- 39:45Speaker 1: know that she kind of thought she knew the quality
- 39:50Speaker 1: of man she was working with and was perhaps just
- 39:54Speaker 1: being downright lied to. And that just makes me a
- 39:58Speaker 1: little sad to think about, because she is so committed
- 40:01Speaker 1: and so like Earnest and would put herself out on
- 40:06Speaker 1: the line for her men, and to know that like
- 40:11Speaker 1: they maybe were pulling some shit that she wasn't aware of,
- 40:15Speaker 1: that is just really really sad. It's weird though, because
- 40:21Speaker 1: then they go back and they like carry her off
- 40:24Speaker 1: and rescue her. So it's not like they don't give
- 40:28Speaker 1: a shit about her at all. It's just that the
- 40:32Speaker 1: relationship seems to not be what everybody involved thinks it is.
- 40:38Speaker 1: I don't know, but yeah. So the flashback where Virgo
- 40:43Speaker 1: is insisting, like, we're going to fix the house for you, ma'am,
- 40:45Speaker 1: she gives him a look like she is just very
- 40:48Speaker 1: attracted to him in that moment, which I understand. Anytime
- 40:51Speaker 1: a dude is like I'm going to take responsibility and
- 40:54Speaker 1: I'm going to go the extra mile to make sure
- 40:56Speaker 1: that this thing goes correctly and justice is done, of
- 41:03Speaker 1: course that's attractive. I am not mad at her for that. However,
- 41:09Speaker 1: then we have her in his office and she's asking
- 41:12Speaker 1: him about whether he has looked into these other disappearances
- 41:15Speaker 1: of these children, and he says, yes, I have it
- 41:20Speaker 1: was an accident. They were lost at sea. It's difficult
- 41:24Speaker 1: for parents to deal with their children's deaths, and so
- 41:27Speaker 1: thinking that they have been abducted is an easy way
- 41:31Speaker 1: for them to pretend that there's still a chance for
- 41:34Speaker 1: their child to be alive. You'll understand that when you
- 41:39Speaker 1: are eventually a mother, which I just resented the hell
- 41:42Speaker 1: out of any time that it's just presumed that a
- 41:44Speaker 1: woman is eventually going to have children, because that's just
- 41:47Speaker 1: what women do. I always have a bit of a
- 41:50Speaker 1: fucking like reaction to that, because as a woman who
- 41:52Speaker 1: has no intention of children, I don't like it. And Tachigi,
- 41:56Speaker 1: to me, does not seem like she's somebody who wants kids.
- 41:58Speaker 1: She seems like somebody who's going to fight until the
- 42:00Speaker 1: day she drops. But this is the one time where
- 42:06Speaker 1: it seems like she's sort of questioning whether or not
- 42:09Speaker 1: everything is as it seems, and she it seems like
- 42:16Speaker 1: in the moment she just sort of disregards it, right,
- 42:19Speaker 1: She's just sort of like, all right, well, I thought
- 42:21Speaker 1: I knew. And she pushes a little by just saying
- 42:24Speaker 1: like Oh, so that's all there is to it, and
- 42:29Speaker 1: he says, yes, that's all there is to it and
- 42:32Speaker 1: kind of turns and looks at her in a like,
- 42:35Speaker 1: well sort of way, and I really it seems like
- 42:41Speaker 1: now that she is seeing the way he's behaving, she's
- 42:43Speaker 1: starting to put two and two together and just realize like, oh,
- 42:47Speaker 1: that's all the kids that we saw here, and he
- 42:49Speaker 1: knew full well what was going on, and just the
- 42:52Speaker 1: extent of his perfidy, I guess. And these dudes are
- 42:58Speaker 1: like the dragon had been following them and attacking them
- 43:02Speaker 1: because the dragon's sedatives had worn off. But eventually it
- 43:07Speaker 1: just stops dead and flies books in the other direction,
- 43:10Speaker 1: and everybody's like what happened? And one of them says,
- 43:13Speaker 1: I think he saw to Shigi and decided to go
- 43:15Speaker 1: the other way, and the other man says like, well,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I mean she is a badass, but it's clear he's
- 43:21Speaker 1: sort of like that doesn't feel right. And then we
- 43:25Speaker 1: have the moment where everybody turns around and we see
- 43:28Speaker 1: that Virgo is here, and they're cheering because they think like, oh, now,
- 43:32Speaker 1: no problem, We're going to be on top of this
- 43:34Speaker 1: because we've got another high level guy here who we admire.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Of course, she understands who Vergo really is. And before
- 43:45Speaker 1: she even gets a chance to say anything, he begins
- 43:48Speaker 1: to attack his own men using that finger pistol, and
- 43:53Speaker 1: the dudes are all just like yo, hold on, dude,
- 43:57Speaker 1: what's going on? And one of them says like, I'm
- 44:00Speaker 1: all for punishment and everything, but your finger pistol could
- 44:04Speaker 1: kill them. And I could not help but laugh, because like,
- 44:07Speaker 1: it looks for all the world like those dudes are dead.
- 44:10Speaker 1: The way that they're attacked and the way they go down,
- 44:13Speaker 1: it really did look like they were dead. So for
- 44:15Speaker 1: him to say like this could kill them, I was like, oh, right, right, right,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Just because they look like they just got killed is
- 44:22Speaker 1: not necessarily what's going on in this universe. And of course,
- 44:29Speaker 1: you know, a couple people try to stop him, and
- 44:31Speaker 1: he takes them all down, and she tries to just
- 44:35Speaker 1: yell for everybody to run, but she's not able to
- 44:38Speaker 1: get the words out. It's like a nightmare. You know.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I think that a lot of us have had this
- 44:45Speaker 1: sort of nightmare where you are trying so hard to
- 44:48Speaker 1: scream out and you're not able to get the words out.
- 44:51Speaker 1: It's the worst. It is so awful. I've kind of
- 44:55Speaker 1: had this in real life as well, and not necessarily
- 45:00Speaker 1: like physically unable to, but more like I was caught
- 45:03Speaker 1: off guard and froze up in the moment. You know,
- 45:10Speaker 1: we talk a lot about fight or flight, but there
- 45:13Speaker 1: are four reactions to like a threat, and there's fight, flight, freeze,
- 45:20Speaker 1: or fawn. And fawn isn't talked about a lot because
- 45:24Speaker 1: I think we're only really just beginning to understand how
- 45:26Speaker 1: that works. But fawn is when you sort of ladder
- 45:30Speaker 1: and compliment the person threatening, trying to calm them down.
- 45:35Speaker 1: You try to be like, oh, well, you know, honey,
- 45:38Speaker 1: I understand why you're met. Let me make you a
- 45:40Speaker 1: sandwich and sit down and take a load off. You've
- 45:44Speaker 1: worked really hard today, and maybe if I offer you this,
- 45:47Speaker 1: you won't be our child. That kind of thing I am.
- 45:51Speaker 1: I have come to realize much more of a freeze.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I want to be a fight. I would like that,
- 46:00Speaker 1: but I am somebody who has just enough doubt in
- 46:04Speaker 1: my own judgment of what's happening sometimes that I won't
- 46:06Speaker 1: take action immediately because my brain does the whole I
- 46:10Speaker 1: am not sure I heard that right, or they can't
- 46:14Speaker 1: have just done what it looks like they just did,
- 46:17Speaker 1: and so I freeze up kind of like what do
- 46:19Speaker 1: I do because I might be wrong about this, and
- 46:22Speaker 1: I don't want to jump in and do something and
- 46:25Speaker 1: then realize like I was incorrect about this all. So
- 46:31Speaker 1: the freeze thing for me is something that I am
- 46:34Speaker 1: sort of beginning to understand is rooted in a lack
- 46:38Speaker 1: of trust in my own judgment. Weirdly, considering how opinionated
- 46:43Speaker 1: I tend to be, it may not seem like that
- 46:46Speaker 1: makes sense with my personality, but I'm also often really indecisive.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Once I get there, I'm firm on it, but it
- 46:52Speaker 1: takes me a while to get there. So it does
- 46:54Speaker 1: kind of match up. And he winds up taking her
- 46:59Speaker 1: down well, and she's not like unconscious, She's on the
- 47:03Speaker 1: on the floor of this hallway, just saying to herself basically,
- 47:09Speaker 1: my words were frozen in my throat. I cannot believe
- 47:13Speaker 1: that I wasn't able to do anything. And I really
- 47:16Speaker 1: felt for her, because it is not it is it's
- 47:21Speaker 1: trying like being able to say, okay, I do a
- 47:24Speaker 1: freeze when there are threats. It's one thing to like
- 47:29Speaker 1: stay that, but when you actually do it and then
- 47:33Speaker 1: look back you cannot help but feel like, oh, I
- 47:40Speaker 1: could have behaved differently. I fucked up, and like there
- 47:46Speaker 1: there to a point maybe you could have done something differently.
- 47:48Speaker 1: We can train ourselves to react differently over time, but
- 47:51Speaker 1: it's not as easy as it looks in our rear
- 47:54Speaker 1: view mirror. You know, it's an instinctive lizard brain response.
- 47:59Speaker 1: So I'm not mad at her. It's just more of
- 48:03Speaker 1: the fact that I keep feeling as if Tashigi is
- 48:06Speaker 1: being portrayed a certain way because she's a woman. That's
- 48:09Speaker 1: what I keep running up against with this show in general,
- 48:12Speaker 1: is that women fighters really are rare, and so when
- 48:17Speaker 1: we get them and then they aren't really allowed to
- 48:20Speaker 1: be great. Like fully, it is highly suspect to me,
- 48:27Speaker 1: and I think it wouldn't be as suspect if it
- 48:31Speaker 1: weren't for the fact that there were so few of them.
- 48:33Speaker 1: It's the thing, you know, where if you only have
- 48:37Speaker 1: like four percent of all the fighters in your whole
- 48:40Speaker 1: series be women, you better do a fucking good job
- 48:44Speaker 1: with that four percent, And if you fuck up, it's
- 48:47Speaker 1: going to be very noticeable. Because I'm hyper aware of
- 48:50Speaker 1: that four percent. You can make the you know, ninety
- 48:54Speaker 1: six percent of men. You can make a bunch of
- 48:56Speaker 1: them screw ups, but you've got such a high volume
- 49:00Speaker 1: that you do that, and you still got plenty of
- 49:02Speaker 1: combatant ones in the mix. And so I just have
- 49:05Speaker 1: this sort of like side eye with the whole thing
- 49:09Speaker 1: with Tashigi. I understand what's meant to be happening with her,
- 49:12Speaker 1: and I'm not even blaming these character traits. I'm blaming
- 49:18Speaker 1: the author for putting these character traits on a woman
- 49:21Speaker 1: instead of on a male character, because it just feels
- 49:24Speaker 1: like this is not something that we have seen with
- 49:26Speaker 1: men almost ever. So anyway, that's that's the main thing
- 49:30Speaker 1: going on with Tashigi. And then we have the conversation
- 49:38Speaker 1: with Zorro. Zorro has like this, you know, he fights
- 49:43Speaker 1: with the Marines, and then he hears about how Lufy
- 49:46Speaker 1: got beaten by Caesar, and Zorro is really upset by
- 49:52Speaker 1: this in a way I wasn't expecting us up explains
- 49:57Speaker 1: to him about the fact that this guy can manipulate
- 49:59Speaker 1: gas and sucks oxygen out of the air and YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 50:03Speaker 1: and Zorro says, I cannot believe it. He got beaten
- 50:08Speaker 1: by him. We got the drop on us by the
- 50:12Speaker 1: fucking cool brothers. This is pathetic. What the fuck is
- 50:16Speaker 1: wrong with us? We gave up two years of our
- 50:20Speaker 1: lives to train. Was it all for nothing? If we
- 50:24Speaker 1: keep fucking up like this, We're gonna get ourselves killed.
- 50:28Speaker 1: And he just stops fighting and he yells up because
- 50:32Speaker 1: Lufy's like still up there, and he yells up, hey,
- 50:36Speaker 1: loofy eh uh I forgot Oh yeah, because I keep
- 50:42Speaker 1: thinking that that Soanji is not me. But no, they're
- 50:44Speaker 1: back in their correct bodies now. But yeah, he yells
- 50:49Speaker 1: up to Lufy as Sonji is saying, what the fuck
- 50:52Speaker 1: is Mosshead doing? This? Better be good? And all the
- 50:57Speaker 1: Marines are attacking him as he's trying to get Lufy's
- 50:59Speaker 1: a tension, and he just like breaks their swords into
- 51:03Speaker 1: pieces basically, and Lufy is running and listening as he's running,
- 51:10Speaker 1: and he says, you have got to get it together.
- 51:15Speaker 1: We're in the New world. Steaks are high, and basically,
- 51:22Speaker 1: you know, pick it up, my guy. We're not here
- 51:27Speaker 1: playing around anymore. This isn't peanuts. And when we come back,
- 51:31Speaker 1: Sangy is smiling and says just that we needed a
- 51:35Speaker 1: kick in the ass, and I was really surprised because
- 51:38Speaker 1: Sonjie is so unsupportive of Zoro normally, but he seems
- 51:43Speaker 1: genuinely pleased by Zoro's speech and seems to be like,
- 51:48Speaker 1: you know what, He's fucking right though. So this is
- 51:54Speaker 1: when Loufy, he like jumps down on a bunch of
- 51:58Speaker 1: these I think they're the dudes in the Hasma suits
- 52:00Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, and he's using this ability. I
- 52:04Speaker 1: think he calls it ufo. Let's see, it's like his
- 52:08Speaker 1: legs are spinning under him in like a disc shape.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Uh yeah, gum gum ufo. And then he goes and
- 52:16Speaker 1: knocks all of these dudes off this like catwalk and says, see,
- 52:21Speaker 1: I got it, and Zoro says, don't. Can't you take
- 52:24Speaker 1: anything seriously? So this is when a guy comes in
- 52:30Speaker 1: tells Caesar that the straw Hat and the Navy are
- 52:35Speaker 1: all inside the building. They got away from the gas
- 52:38Speaker 1: and they're in building A Now, oh, and I had forgot.
- 52:40Speaker 1: I got so sidetracked talking about the fucking stuff stuck
- 52:43Speaker 1: to Vigo's face that I forgot to mention that when
- 52:47Speaker 1: he sees the Marines aren't out there, his immediate response is, oh, well, okay,
- 52:53Speaker 1: the movie and is forrenzying in that cage, and Caesar's like,
- 52:56Speaker 1: why not, and Vigo says, because all the navy are
- 53:00Speaker 1: fucking meathead idiots. They don't know anything. They are not
- 53:05Speaker 1: competent men. So if they manage to get away, it's
- 53:09Speaker 1: not because they were smart enough to figure out how
- 53:11Speaker 1: to get away. It is because Loofy and his friends
- 53:14Speaker 1: had to have helped them. And I thought that was
- 53:17Speaker 1: so funny that he, like, you know, was sort of
- 53:19Speaker 1: the boss of these guys, and that apparently has given
- 53:22Speaker 1: him the insight. These dudes are not top shelf. We
- 53:25Speaker 1: aren't working with geniuses here. So of course Caesar starts
- 53:30Speaker 1: to do his hole, well how the fuck did they
- 53:32Speaker 1: get inside? Vergo is saying, like, okay, if law is
- 53:37Speaker 1: on the loose, I probably am gonna have to take
- 53:39Speaker 1: care of that, do myself, like if he's out there,
- 53:42Speaker 1: because that's the part that I really don't like. And
- 53:47Speaker 1: Caesar tells this guy, well, you're gonna have to go
- 53:51Speaker 1: and like basically isolate building a and we are going
- 53:56Speaker 1: to make sure because I know right where they're going
- 53:59Speaker 1: to be headed or are sixty six We have to
- 54:03Speaker 1: make sure that they don't get that far. And it
- 54:07Speaker 1: bummed me out a little bit that Caesar knows precisely
- 54:10Speaker 1: where they're going. I was sort of like, oh, maybe
- 54:13Speaker 1: he won't be sure exactly what they're doing. And I
- 54:17Speaker 1: am really the reason that I kind of thought this
- 54:19Speaker 1: was because there's no reason for them to know to
- 54:23Speaker 1: go to our sixty six except that Law told them.
- 54:26Speaker 1: So I guess that's really where Caesar's like getting his
- 54:29Speaker 1: idea from here is just okay, if Law is working
- 54:34Speaker 1: with them, then he would have shared this information. So
- 54:38Speaker 1: he starts like, yeah, observing all of the camera footage,
- 54:43Speaker 1: how did they get inside the building? And all right, well,
- 54:47Speaker 1: we're going to let that gas in. We're going to
- 54:50Speaker 1: handle this. And also this is going to make a
- 54:54Speaker 1: really good example so that the people who are watching
- 54:56Speaker 1: all of this finally get the show that I intended
- 54:58Speaker 1: them to get. Chopper, meanwhile, is running down the hall.
- 55:03Speaker 1: He's looking at that note that got thrown at him
- 55:06Speaker 1: that says, uh, I can't remember what it even says.
- 55:09Speaker 1: It just says like don't do it or something. I'm
- 55:12Speaker 1: assuming this note was Law because Law was the one
- 55:15Speaker 1: who knew that their bonds weren't real Sea Prism Stone,
- 55:19Speaker 1: so probably he had like a whole plan for how
- 55:22Speaker 1: this was going to go, and he saw Chopper because
- 55:25Speaker 1: law has that ability to like know what's going on
- 55:28Speaker 1: in a given space. So I'm wondering if he had
- 55:33Speaker 1: because the Seastone Prism wasn't real, his powers were not
- 55:40Speaker 1: dampened like we all thought they were, So maybe he
- 55:44Speaker 1: was aware of Chopper being there and was just like, Oh,
- 55:47Speaker 1: this little guy is gonna fuck things up for us,
- 55:51Speaker 1: and he's gonna get himself caught for no reason. So
- 55:55Speaker 1: that's my going theory right now. But yeah, so let's
- 55:59Speaker 1: see what is I'm trying to find the exact orders
- 56:02Speaker 1: that Caesar gives. He says, Oh, yeah, here it is.
- 56:06Speaker 1: We know what they're after, escape away off the island,
- 56:10Speaker 1: and that means we know where they're heading. They are
- 56:13Speaker 1: going to make a bean line for Building R and
- 56:15Speaker 1: Gate sixty six, So I want you to isolate Building
- 56:23Speaker 1: A and this dude, he said. He says, close the
- 56:29Speaker 1: gate between the two buildings and then let the gas
- 56:33Speaker 1: inside use the experimental cannon. And he keeps calling the
- 56:40Speaker 1: gas land of the Dead, which keeps confusing me a
- 56:44Speaker 1: little bit. I'm not gonna lie, but I'm starting to
- 56:48Speaker 1: get the hang of it that that's what he's calling
- 56:50Speaker 1: this weapon, but it's just sort of weird sounding to
- 56:52Speaker 1: me still. And the lackey he's telling to do this says, well,
- 56:57Speaker 1: if you do, if we do that, we're leaving our
- 56:59Speaker 1: own guards to die, and he just yells at him,
- 57:02Speaker 1: you will do as I say and plays a surveillance
- 57:05Speaker 1: snail too, do you hear me? And this guy just
- 57:08Speaker 1: like keeps trying to argue with him, and I was
- 57:11Speaker 1: just like, man, have you not figured this out yet?
- 57:14Speaker 1: He left all of those dudes outside, Like did you
- 57:17Speaker 1: not see that? Are you not aware? But yeah, anyway,
- 57:22Speaker 1: so that is what they're doing, and oh my god,
- 57:27Speaker 1: I'm trying to find the spot where Loofy is like
- 57:31Speaker 1: he's yelling at this guy who is coming at him,
- 57:34Speaker 1: and this dude has these really weird I don't know
- 57:38Speaker 1: what how to describe this man's the way that he
- 57:43Speaker 1: is put together, because he hasn't got regular animal legs,
- 57:50Speaker 1: but he also it's like he has human legs, but
- 57:53Speaker 1: he's got six of them, it seems like, so he's
- 57:57Speaker 1: got a sort of insectoid look. But they aren't insect legs.
- 58:03Speaker 1: It's like they're human legs in a squat position. It's
- 58:08Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on. Lufy just says he's
- 58:11Speaker 1: freaky and smashes him out of the way, and that's
- 58:16Speaker 1: pretty much it. This guy like gets a speech, he
- 58:18Speaker 1: calls himself machete. I really thought he was gonna be
- 58:21Speaker 1: more of something and he isn't. Lofy just bashes him
- 58:24Speaker 1: right out of the fucking way. All of this is happening,
- 58:27Speaker 1: by the way, as the sirens are blaring telling us
- 58:30Speaker 1: that we're getting the door closed and isolating off this area.
- 58:34Speaker 1: And it made me laugh that we're gonna get this
- 58:37Speaker 1: much headtime. You know, the gate. We're not just gonna
- 58:40Speaker 1: close the doors. We are getting the five minute countdown
- 58:46Speaker 1: before the doors close. Really should have just closed him.
- 58:50Speaker 1: I don't know why we have to handle it this way,
- 58:52Speaker 1: but whatever. So Law is like explaining to Smoker exactly
- 59:00Speaker 1: what's going on, and we have Smoker who disappears in
- 59:06Speaker 1: his smoke form to sort of fly down the hallway.
- 59:11Speaker 1: Later on, when Lufy is like trying to pick up
- 59:14Speaker 1: the pace, he winds up going so fast that he
- 59:16Speaker 1: has lit the floor on fire like a Looney Tunes character,
- 59:20Speaker 1: and I found that very funny because he is so
- 59:23Speaker 1: resentful of the fact that all smoker has to do
- 59:26Speaker 1: is turn into smoke done, you know, and he's just like,
- 59:29Speaker 1: I can't do that, dude, I had to actually run. Okay,
- 59:32Speaker 1: so we're fucking I'm tired, give me a second. Meanwhile,
- 59:37Speaker 1: all of our other friends who are still in a
- 59:41Speaker 1: they are getting a ride on brown Beard so that
- 59:44Speaker 1: they can reach there in time, and the what do
- 59:52Speaker 1: you call it? Dragon shows up and begins to chase
- 59:55Speaker 1: them again. But it actually kind of works out because
- 59:58Speaker 1: like they're needing to pick up the p anyway, so
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the dragon is sort of doing them a little bit
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: of a favor by forcing them to go faster. Let's see,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: I'm trying to jump ahead here because we have a
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: bunch of the stuff with the tashigi. Oh my god,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: everybody talking about how tired they are and thank you
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: for carrying us. They also are like, hey, do you
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: have any snacks on you? This did make me laugh actually,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: and then the cannon going off and breaking a hole
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: in the wall and letting the gas begin to pour in.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Just jumping ahead here, So okay, I'm over time, so
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: I'm just making sure. I've talked a lot this episode
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: about some of the beginning stuff. But the main thing
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: that happens in the third episode that I haven't talked
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: about is when Chopper eventually catches up with the little
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: girl because there's only one girl who is so big
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: that the guards can't really do anything about it, who
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: has separated herself from the rest of the group and
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: is trying to like get out of the building. She
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: keeps yelling nice ladies, She's trying to find an ami,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: and Chopper hears this little girl crying because there are
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: three of these dudes in the hazmat suits gathered around her,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: trying to convince her to come back inside, and of
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: course she is still seeing them as like monsters. So
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Chopper he turns into like the biggest not the biggest,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: but like other than the one where he's completely a
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: mindless maniac. He turns into that version of himself, like
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: the big buff triangle torito body guy. And I had
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: thought he would be like approaching her size when he
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: did this, and it's not even close, y'all. When he
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: is up next to her, he can stand on her shoulder,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: like a little parrot, so he doesn't get nearly as
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: big as I imagine him getting. It's a combo of
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that and also that she is so much bigger than
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: I realize, you know. But yeah, this little meetup, he
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: just knocks all of these dudes down, and then he
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: gets the sedative needle out and he gives her an
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: injection to calm her down, and he is like, dude,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: what are you even doing back in here? Like we
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: got you out of here, and she explains that the
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Master came and got us and told us that we
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: could come back with him and we could get some candy.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: And Chopper is like, oh Christ, we can't let them
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: eat the candy. There's something wrong with it. And she
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: asks what's in it and he just says it's just bad.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: He doesn't get specific about it, which I don't like.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Now is not the time, you know. So I'm glad
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: at least that she's in hand with Chopper. And I've
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: got to say, y'all, I'm not mad at the voice
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: actor for this little girl, because they're doing what they're doing.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: It's valid. But I have to say her voice is
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: absolutely piercing. It is so difficult whenever she's on screen
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: and she's crying. When she's talking, it's less rough, but
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: when she's crying, it's this like squealing sound that it's difficult.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. I had some moments where I
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: was like reaching for the remote to drop the sound
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: down during her scenes because it's so piercing anyway, So
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: the last bet, let's see I'm trying to he asks
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: her to lean him to the biscuit room, so she's
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: taking him over there so they can rescue these kids.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: And then we go back to Caesar, who is looking
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: at the scene here where uh Virgo is standing versus Sanji,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: because Sanji heard Tashiki crying and because it's a woman's tears,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: it summoned him like a fucking genie out of the ether,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: and he like is going up against Virgo here, and
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Caesar is like, I fucking told this guy that I
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: am about to let this gas in. So I don't
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: know what the fuck he's playing at, but he had
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: the chance to get out of here, and he's over
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: this place just doing his own thing, putting himself in
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: the line of fire. I am not going to help
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: him open the other gate and we're just gonna let
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: the gas in, and Moneta says, are you sure you
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: want me to do that with Vigo still in the hall,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: and Caesar said, it's his own fault. He shouldn't have
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: gone rogue on me, which, honestly, I think, is that
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: makes sense to me, like just well, you fucking knew.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I don't know exactly. There's like a mention that the
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: title says something about demon Bamboo Vigo, and we still
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: haven't really seen what that means. So I'm curious if
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Vigo has some ability that makes it so that he
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: isn't going to be susceptible to the gas the way
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: that Caesar thinks he's going to be. I don't know
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: why he would have an ability that Caesar doesn't know about.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: That's the only thing that I'm just sort of like,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: they've been working together, I thought for a bit now,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: so I would think Caesar would know what he's capable of.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: So we then have Chopper and the little girl and
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: they close that door to get into the biscuit room
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: where the candy is, and they put a big pipe
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: that sort of you know, in between the they're like
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: these big door handles that come curving outward, and they
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: stick the pipe in there to keep it from opening,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: and that is where we leave them. They're still holding
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: the door shut against these kids who are trying to
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: get in. When she asks what's wrong with the candy,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: like what makes it bad? Chopper just says it just
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: is in a way that, like, I understand, this is
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: not the time to explain, but it does make him
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: seem sort of sketchy, like he's maybe lying or something.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: It's just weird. And then we have Loofy at the
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: doorway to the lab with Smoker, and eventually Smoker is
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: sick of waiting for Loofy and just like presses the
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: button to open the door, and the end scene of
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: this episode is Loofy stepping inside and they have made
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: an agreement. Loufy is going to handle Caesar and Smoker's
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: not going to get in his way, And meanwhile, Smoker
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: is going to handle Virgo and Lufy's not going to
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: get in his way. So Lufhy steps into this lab
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: and he just yells, you're not getting away now, Caesar,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: and he just punches Caesar in like the solar plexus,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: and Caesar yells, and that's the end. Of the episode.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm really interested to see where we're going here.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I have a lot of I'm just I'm enjoying this
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: arc a lot. I think this is a real fun one.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: It's definitely a huge step up from the last one.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: So all right, everybody, well, thank you all again so
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: much for listening. I appreciate you all very very much,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: and thank you Florian for being here, et cetera. And
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: until tomorrow, Chudlum, motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network past
