- 0:01Speaker 1: Jerry, Katie and Josh.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Well, my morning is completely out of whack and screwed up.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Every morning I put a little bowl of fruit in
- 0:11Speaker 2: my lunch tote.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Did I prepare the night before?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Last night, I chopped up some pineapple and some strawbellies,
- 0:19Speaker 2: put them in my little tupperware bowl in the fridge.
- 0:22Speaker 2: This morning, I grabbed that bowl put it in my
- 0:24Speaker 2: lunch tote. I just went over, opened up my lunch
- 0:28Speaker 2: tote and pulled out that bowl and popped the lid off.
- 0:30Speaker 3: And it is a bunch of old dry spaghetti.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Oh no, I grabbed the wrong upperwar.
- 0:41Speaker 3: It's just ry noodles. I hate this morning.
- 0:46Speaker 1: That's not refreshing at all. Like pineapple sounds fabulous.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Was already for pineapple. Damn it.
- 0:56Speaker 4: That's not to be one of the most disappointing things,
- 0:59Speaker 4: you know how.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I was like, oh, well, this day sucks anyway. I'm
- 1:06Speaker 3: an idiot.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So I'm reading all the news stories here. It was
- 1:09Speaker 2: crazy smoky in town yesterday, and I'm feeling it.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Are you guys feeling it?
- 1:13Speaker 4: Yeah? Taste it. I'm clearing my throat so much more
- 1:16Speaker 4: than I usually do.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I think that's a big part of why I was
- 1:19Speaker 1: so sick over the weekend.
- 1:20Speaker 5: It just got to me.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah, big fires in Colorado right now. The Aspen Acres
- 1:26Speaker 2: fire is going on in Custer County. They're saying about
- 1:28Speaker 2: twenty three thousand acres right now. Yeah, zero percent contained,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and it's currently the largest and fastest growing fire in Colorado.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Oh oh, it's so sad.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Then we got the Snyder Fire, which is the Mason
- 1:42Speaker 2: Grand Counties near the Utah border. Twenty eight thousand acres,
- 1:46Speaker 2: zero percent contained. Right now, that's the one that's man,
- 1:51Speaker 2: that's the scary one, right it's.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Really close to Grand Junction. I mean, yesterday I saw
- 1:55Speaker 1: the it switched directions. I think it made them, you know,
- 1:58Speaker 1: like it it just took It was a positive finally
- 2:01Speaker 1: in all of that, but still not out of the
- 2:03Speaker 1: woods yet.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I mean that's the one where the three firefighters were
- 2:06Speaker 3: killed on that one. True, Yeah, that's horrible.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And then now there's a Gold Mountain fire near your
- 2:12Speaker 2: ray and that's seven one hundred acres zero percent contained.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And again another one like from the town you could
- 2:19Speaker 1: see it over the crest of the mountain and yes, yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 1: they were happy that it turned away and started going
- 2:26Speaker 1: away from the town.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But it has doubled in size over the past day,
- 2:29Speaker 2: they said, So that was really quick. But man, everything
- 2:31Speaker 2: is so dry out there. The temperatures are high, single
- 2:35Speaker 2: digit humidity, gusty winds, like it's just truly a perfect
- 2:39Speaker 2: storm for all these fires right now.
- 2:42Speaker 3: And how do you fight all that?
- 2:43Speaker 2: You know, you don't have enough manpower or air power
- 2:46Speaker 2: anything like that.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Well even just outside of the flames of just being
- 2:50Speaker 1: in the vicinity of it. I'll never forget when I
- 2:52Speaker 1: lived over there, there was a big fire and the ashes,
- 2:56Speaker 1: like you had to clean off a good centimeter of
- 2:59Speaker 1: ashes from your every day because it was like that.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And imagine what your lungs look like at that point.
- 3:05Speaker 1: If your car's looking like your masks, what your lungs
- 3:08Speaker 1: look like. So, yeah, it is I'm praying and you know,
- 3:12Speaker 1: all my friends out there on the western slope just
- 3:14Speaker 1: hoping that everything's okay.
- 3:16Speaker 5: So yeah, kind of hard to see though, a.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Very hard to see.
- 3:19Speaker 2: It sucks for you know, the nature and people having
- 3:22Speaker 2: to be evacuated and lives being lost, and I guess
- 3:25Speaker 2: it just it's one of those things. Don't want to
- 3:27Speaker 2: be a parent here, but just think about it. You
- 3:29Speaker 2: know what, the fourth of July coming up, shooting off
- 3:31Speaker 2: the fireworks.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And doing things.
- 3:33Speaker 2: You know, be smart with your fireworks, absolutely, be smart,
- 3:36Speaker 2: be careful this year because man, it could.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Get a whole lot worse fast.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Well, and I remember last year without all the fires
- 3:42Speaker 1: and firefighters had to respond to like forty five different
- 3:45Speaker 1: calls within like seven hours because of fireworks. So you know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: our men and women in uniform, we don't want to
- 3:51Speaker 1: put any.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Extra pressure on them.
- 3:53Speaker 1: So definitely hoping they stay safe this season as well.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so don't put any pop bottle rockets in your
- 3:59Speaker 2: butts off.
- 4:00Speaker 3: This is not the year to do it. Don't do it,
- 4:03Speaker 3: year to do it really quick. I do have this story.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I guess we're heading into July, which is National ice
- 4:09Speaker 2: Cream Month, and National ice Cream Day actually falls on
- 4:12Speaker 2: July nineteenth, but tomorrow is National Creative ice Cream Flavors Day,
- 4:17Speaker 2: so it's all about ice cream.
- 4:19Speaker 3: In the month of July.
- 4:21Speaker 2: They went out and did a report and some polling
- 4:24Speaker 2: data to determine the most popular ice cream flavors in
- 4:27Speaker 2: every state.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Where are we at here with Colorado? Oh? Chocolate chip?
- 4:35Speaker 1: Oh?
- 4:37Speaker 3: That boring, that's boring.
- 4:39Speaker 5: One step up from vanilla.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yeah, Indiana got peppermint, Kansas got macha, Main got blueberry.
- 4:47Speaker 3: South Carolina got peach.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Kansas, the most boring state out there, gets macha?
- 4:53Speaker 3: Should vanilla? Vermont got peanut butter? Which I am? A
- 4:56Speaker 3: peanut butter ice cream? Which one got?
- 4:59Speaker 5: Rocky Road? Does it say.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Nope?
- 5:03Speaker 3: No cookies and cream?
- 5:04Speaker 2: If you want to go up to South Dakota, Hey,
- 5:07Speaker 2: lavender in Oregon lavender ice cream?
- 5:10Speaker 5: I do like lavender ice cream.
- 5:12Speaker 4: What does that taste like?
- 5:15Speaker 6: Like?
- 5:16Speaker 2: The color tastes like Barney, the sweet lavender taste.
- 5:19Speaker 5: It is something you gotta at least try it.
- 5:21Speaker 3: What's up sweet lavender?
- 5:23Speaker 1: You girl?
- 5:24Speaker 2: I should make a shirt for my little shop that
- 5:26Speaker 2: says ice cream sweat on it.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I'd probably buy that one.
- 5:30Speaker 5: It's funny, is I? I?
- 5:32Speaker 3: Was that offensive?
- 5:33Speaker 4: A little difference between a man and a woman right there?
- 5:38Speaker 5: Cream sweat, but funny?
- 5:40Speaker 3: Text me right now?
- 5:41Speaker 2: Should I make a shirt that says that three zo
- 5:43Speaker 2: three six nine one sixteen forty nine?
- 5:46Speaker 3: Is that something you'd wear into the office?
- 5:48Speaker 4: Probably? Okay, maybe not the office?
- 5:50Speaker 3: Where would you wear a shirt this is ice cream?
- 5:53Speaker 5: I know?
- 5:54Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 5:54Speaker 5: The only place you.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Could give me your finest soft roll into cold Stone.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Oh my god. That's okay.
- 6:02Speaker 2: So anyway, that was totally sidetracked from what we wanted
- 6:05Speaker 2: to talk about.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Gen Zers are putting up walls, Katie.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, if you like think about it,
- 6:11Speaker 1: if you know a gen Zer, I do. I gave
- 6:14Speaker 1: birth to one, and she has this whole thing where
- 6:17Speaker 1: she doesn't like owe anyone anything. And it's not just her,
- 6:20Speaker 1: it's people who age all across the board. They've got
- 6:23Speaker 1: really strong boundaries with their friends, with their workplaces. They
- 6:28Speaker 1: are very you know, in tune with their mental health.
- 6:31Speaker 1: These are things that they have done that are you know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: positive in a way. But now we're starting to see
- 6:36Speaker 1: the negatives of this because everyone wants.
- 6:39Speaker 5: A village, but no one wants to be a villager.
- 6:41Speaker 1: That's kind of how they're describing this phenomenon with the
- 6:45Speaker 1: gen Zers. So they talk about how like their work
- 6:48Speaker 1: life balance, right, Like we've discussed how they talk about
- 6:50Speaker 1: how they want to take a nap, How in the
- 6:52Speaker 1: middle of the day, the gen Zers want to take
- 6:54Speaker 1: a nap. They need days for their mental health.
- 6:56Speaker 4: But now we're putting yourself first.
- 6:58Speaker 5: It is putting yourself first. It's very selfish.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Josh.
- 7:01Speaker 1: That's kind of what they're saying here is you know,
- 7:03Speaker 1: gen Zers, they have this whole protect your piece thing.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I'm sure you've heard it. I'm sure you I have
- 7:10Speaker 1: z siblings, Yes, exactly. And so it's often then they're
- 7:14Speaker 1: saying this protecting your piece can morph into like a
- 7:17Speaker 1: selfish or a bad friend, right. I just think when
- 7:22Speaker 1: I go back to like having friends and like what
- 7:25Speaker 1: they mean to me, I can ask a couple of
- 7:27Speaker 1: my friends for anything at any time, and I know
- 7:29Speaker 1: that they will show up and because they know that
- 7:32Speaker 1: they can get that from me. But it's a you know, process,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and it's a history of doing that for your friends,
- 7:37Speaker 1: showing up, for your friends, being there for them that
- 7:40Speaker 1: they know they can count on you. With gen Zers,
- 7:42Speaker 1: it's now just you know, do you want to come
- 7:45Speaker 1: to my party?
- 7:45Speaker 5: Yes?
- 7:46Speaker 4: I do.
- 7:46Speaker 5: But then they don't.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Show up because they're like, I am a headache and
- 7:50Speaker 1: I just don't want anything to disturb my peace like that.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They and they're so quick to use that as an excuse,
- 7:56Speaker 1: like it's going to make them step outside of their
- 7:59Speaker 1: comfort zone and they don't want to do it, and
- 8:01Speaker 1: they don't have to do it. That's what they've been
- 8:03Speaker 1: kind of taught, right, I don't know. It's like I
- 8:06Speaker 1: don't like it either, And I think, honestly, you need
- 8:09Speaker 1: to show up for your friends.
- 8:10Speaker 6: Why you know, I'm a people pleaser, like to a fault.
- 8:13Speaker 6: I have a very hard time saying no, and I
- 8:14Speaker 6: always want to help someone out and be there for someone.
- 8:17Speaker 6: So this is like polar opposite of what I'm used
- 8:19Speaker 6: to at all. Yeah, I mean I overserved to the
- 8:22Speaker 6: point where like I spread myself too thin, where now
- 8:24Speaker 6: these people are just like, oh I can RSVP to a.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Party, have you get ready for that?
- 8:29Speaker 6: Make a table spot for me, and then just never
- 8:31Speaker 6: even show up because I have I'm tired.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's it, Like this really so tired.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Well this story I was.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Looking at specifically, She was like, you know, I planned
- 8:41Speaker 1: a potluck style party and several of the people bailed
- 8:44Speaker 1: at the last minute, and then they didn't respond my
- 8:46Speaker 1: invitation at all, some of them, and well before that.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Because potlucks are disgusting.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Yeah, but honestly, like when when you think back, like I.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Just remember my friend's birthday parties, Like when I was
- 8:57Speaker 1: in my twenties, I was.
- 8:58Speaker 4: There for this so fun.
- 9:00Speaker 5: We had a big party.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I showed up for them, they showed up for my parties,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and I just so baby Nana her last birthday party,
- 9:08Speaker 1: she rented a little space.
- 9:10Speaker 5: She put out, you know, a good chunk of money
- 9:13Speaker 5: for the food, the drink.
- 9:14Speaker 1: She invited a bunch of people, and a lot of
- 9:16Speaker 1: her friends didn't show up, and it really made her sad.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And I was just like, that's kind of what the
- 9:21Speaker 1: kids your age do now though, right, Like they.
- 9:24Speaker 5: Don't show up.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I texted you exactly, And so that's kind of what
- 9:29Speaker 1: this whole thing is is they're seeing this whole loneliness phenomenon,
- 9:33Speaker 1: but they're feeding into it, Like if you're not going
- 9:36Speaker 1: to show up for your friend, they're not going to
- 9:38Speaker 1: show up for you either. That's how it works, right.
- 9:41Speaker 4: I don't like the mentality of I don't owe anybody anything.
- 9:43Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's it.
- 9:44Speaker 1: You don't know anyone anything is what they kind of,
- 9:48Speaker 1: you know, just live by and you see it in
- 9:50Speaker 1: the workspace, you see it in the friendship. But again,
- 9:54Speaker 1: these phones are what's contributing to all of it, because
- 9:57Speaker 1: we think that we can you know, communicate with people
- 9:59Speaker 1: and have entire relationships with people just based on this,
- 10:03Speaker 1: and it's really hurting the next generation they're finding out.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So it's this whole new thing with gen z ors
- 10:08Speaker 1: where you know, you don't have to show up for people, No,
- 10:11Speaker 1: you kind of do. And I hope they start seeing
- 10:13Speaker 1: that it's better when you show up for people versus
- 10:16Speaker 1: when you don't.
- 10:17Speaker 2: They're gonna, yeah, I hate gen zol.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Awesome, go have anybody, Bears.
- 10:29Speaker 4: I'll tell you that you're gonna slide it down.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Listen, you need at least six friends, you guys, because
- 10:35Speaker 2: they got to be your pall bearers, right, at least six.
- 10:37Speaker 3: There you go, there's your advice from Jai Bear.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Today, you should be wrapping up your vote for the primary, right, Yeah,
- 10:47Speaker 2: we forgot last night we were sorting a bunch of papers.
- 10:51Speaker 2: We're like, oh my god, there's our ballads. So sweet
- 10:54Speaker 2: nick Knack did her due diligence, and she hopped on
- 10:58Speaker 2: and researched everybody's into the elections. She she loves the
- 11:02Speaker 2: research and watching videos zigs hunt and then she.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Tells me who to vote for.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Ye, it's a good way over her.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Also, speaking of America, the two hundred and fiftieth is
- 11:14Speaker 2: almost here, and a lot of shoppers out and about
- 11:17Speaker 2: are asking where's all the patriotic merch? Bro There's a
- 11:22Speaker 2: lot of people saying that the big brands when you
- 11:25Speaker 2: wander into the stores, probably like the Wally Worlds and
- 11:28Speaker 2: the Tarj's have plenty of World Cup merch, but there's
- 11:34Speaker 2: not a lot for America's two hundred and fiftieth.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Where's all the shirts at you guys?
- 11:39Speaker 5: And you know what's unfortunate about it, I think is
- 11:41Speaker 5: just because.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Of how political everything is, that a lot of people
- 11:45Speaker 1: probably don't want to wear that stuff because they assume
- 11:47Speaker 1: that they'll just be lumped into that and start a
- 11:50Speaker 1: conversation about politics they don't want to get into. Even
- 11:53Speaker 1: though I know a lot of people who are really
- 11:54Speaker 1: excited about it, like it's a big deal.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Two hundred and fifty years, you know.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, anyone who remembers the bi centennial back in seventy six,
- 12:03Speaker 2: that was when you celebrated your graduation from high school?
- 12:06Speaker 5: Are you talking about yourself?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:08Speaker 2: No was They said there were special products and decorations, collectibles,
- 12:13Speaker 2: school supplies with patriotic designs everywhere. But this year, fans
- 12:17Speaker 2: are saying the selection is pretty darn limited.
- 12:20Speaker 4: It makes me sad.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I know, right, It's just you're celebrating America. I pushed
- 12:24Speaker 2: the politics to the side. Just celebrate mirerk.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Nobody can push politics to the side anymore though. It's
- 12:29Speaker 1: just it's so hard, Like I really think that's why
- 12:32Speaker 1: people don't want to celebrate the two hundred and fiftieth.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I saw a shirt that was SpongeBob font and it
- 12:38Speaker 1: said two hundred and fifty years later.
- 12:42Speaker 5: I wanted to get that.
- 12:43Speaker 3: One's fun.
- 12:44Speaker 2: That's fun, and Cheerios has a birthday cake cereal for
- 12:47Speaker 2: the celebration.
- 12:47Speaker 3: If you want to get that.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Cheerios, Cheerios and a Mountain Dew did temporarily become American?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Dude?
- 12:54Speaker 4: You know what? I had some of that the other day,
- 12:56Speaker 4: just like freedom. It was good.
- 12:58Speaker 3: It was good, So you have to put it out.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Josh, you might remember the red white and do Oh yes,
- 13:05Speaker 2: is this.
- 13:05Speaker 3: The same American?
- 13:07Speaker 6: Do?
- 13:08Speaker 3: Is it the same flavor?
- 13:09Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 13:09Speaker 3: The red White and.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Dew was awesome. That was like they had the code
- 13:12Speaker 6: red and then the blue one too, right. They had
- 13:14Speaker 6: the different cans.
- 13:16Speaker 3: That you could buy, Yes, yes, yes, yeah.
- 13:18Speaker 6: This one was just the actual normal Mountain dew, but
- 13:22Speaker 6: it was the can is really cool. It's like a
- 13:24Speaker 6: collector's edition and it's all stars and stripes, American flags
- 13:28Speaker 6: and stuff. But I think the World Cup has helped
- 13:30Speaker 6: a little bit in the fact that so many Europeans
- 13:32Speaker 6: have come over here and they love it. They're like,
- 13:34Speaker 6: America's awesome. They've getten their meals paid for and stuff
- 13:36Speaker 6: like that. But you're right with Jeffrey Refilmed. Yeah, in
- 13:39Speaker 6: terms of merch.
- 13:39Speaker 2: It's been kind of a bummer about you said something
- 13:42Speaker 2: off there. I think it was you what the Europeans
- 13:43Speaker 2: are saying. If you want to hate America, watch the news.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I love America. Come here.
- 13:48Speaker 6: And that's what they've said, because they've said, again Katie,
- 13:51Speaker 6: the whole political tension that has been happening for so
- 13:54Speaker 6: long now, news stations that's what they cover. Unfortunately, it's
- 13:57Speaker 6: a lot of doom and gloom, and they're like they've
- 14:00Speaker 6: that's what they get over there, you know, on the
- 14:01Speaker 6: BBC and everything.
- 14:02Speaker 4: That's that's the doom and gloom.
- 14:04Speaker 6: But then they came here for the World Cup to
- 14:05Speaker 6: support their team and they're like, we have not paid
- 14:08Speaker 6: for a meal here. Americans are so kind they've offered
- 14:11Speaker 6: us places to.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Sleep, they're drinking our beards.
- 14:13Speaker 4: They really are.
- 14:14Speaker 6: And so that's what I love about this is then
- 14:17Speaker 6: we can kind of see how good we actually do
- 14:19Speaker 6: have it and how patriotic we can be. And I
- 14:22Speaker 6: think that's the bright side. But in terms of buying merch, yeah,
- 14:24Speaker 6: I haven't seen anything. No.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I had to pick up a couple of shirts. I
- 14:27Speaker 3: bought a couple of shirts for.
- 14:28Speaker 2: The fourth and I had to get them off this
- 14:30Speaker 2: but I did. I was digging through, uh my shorts
- 14:34Speaker 2: drawer and at the very bottom I did find my
- 14:36Speaker 2: American flag shorts.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Not gonna lie out.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I don't even have those.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Now's your time to shine, shorts, This is your time
- 14:44Speaker 2: to shine.
