- 0:09>> I am going to apologize for my behavior today. [laughter]
- 0:14>> What did you do? Something >> um I went to the movies three times.
- 0:20>> Uh-huh. Okay, that's something. >> And when I go to the movies, I drink.
- 0:26>> Oh, all right. Okay. >> So, I've seen three movies. So just that's like
- 0:32what two and a half hours for the first one then like two hours for the next
- 0:36two. So I've been at movies like six and a half hours today.
- 0:38>> I see. And how many drinks per hour? >> I don't know per hour, but it's like
- 0:44four per four per movie. >> Jesus. All right.
- 0:49Do I want to ask how you get to and from the movies in such a situation?
- 0:53>> I've you know those little kick scooters. >> Oh yeah. Okay. I I own one of them. So I
- 1:00ride that to work. >> You can use one of those. >> I can use one of those. I just hop on
- 1:05and off I go. You can use them with one leg. >> Yeah. Okay. All right.
- 1:09>> So I ride to work. I park there and then I walk through movies. >> Okay. All right.
- 1:15>> I could walk through movies, but that would take me like an extra seven minutes. So
- 1:20>> yeah, don't want to waste seven minutes. >> Yep.
- 1:24>> Also, their scooters are kind of cool. Uh for listeners or watchers who don't
- 1:28know, Luke does have both legs. One of them's just not as useful as the other.
- 1:32>> Yeah, the other one's pretty [ __ ] and I want to get rid of it.
- 1:35>> Yeah, he's working on that. >> I'm working on it. I just got to find the right surgeon.
- 1:41So, I've seen a lot of movies this week. >> All right, let's I mean, let's start
- 1:46with some movie talk then. What have you seen? What I mean, you can choose the
- 1:51order. I mean, >> I'll go in order of what I saw them.
- 1:53>> All right, let's go. Scary movie. >> Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Anna Ferris is back.
- 1:59>> I love Anna Ferris. The actress who played her daughter
- 2:04is I it felt like it was actually her daughter like >> Yeah. Right.
- 2:09>> sounded the same with the way that she talism like acting like all hands down.
- 2:15>> It's a scary movie. Movie. >> Yeah. It's I mean I you made it sound
- 2:20like just oh you know the the actress who played her daughter you know so
- 2:23convincing such a great I mean it's [ __ ] scary movie it's like
- 2:27>> I haven't even seen it and I I know it's going to be silly.
- 2:31>> I actually wish they had have gone further. I I think they sort of held back.
- 2:35>> Oh really? >> Yeah. So the Wayne brothers are back cuz
- 2:40they disappeared for a few and that was a bit of a joke throughout. Okay. They
- 2:43weren't part of a few of the scary movies, but it was just a scary movie
- 2:47movie. And the whole making fun of the whole reboot, not reboot, like the Did
- 2:54they call it a rebootable? >> So, it's not like a brand new, they're bringing like I know
- 3:00what you did last summer, but like they're bringing new characters in with
- 3:03the old and that was a whole bit of a joke to it, but it's Yeah, you can
- 3:08honestly you don't need to go to a movie to see a scary movie movie. No, the
- 3:12first scary movie I watched uh I back
- 3:17when Dave and I lived in Eastwood, we were borrowing cable from upstairs to
- 3:23use their cable internet cuz this is this is in the 90s. Internet was not
- 3:27what it is now. Um these guys had fast internet and the alternative for us was
- 3:31dialup. Anyway, so I hooked up to and then I found some war's website and I
- 3:36downloaded and I watched a cam >> filmed version of scary movie.
- 3:42>> I remember when like like day one like now it's a lot different but back in the
- 3:47day like if you were to download a movie which is wrong but if you download a
- 3:52movie day one it was a horrible handy cam y >> people walking in front of it you could
- 3:57hear the audience. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, I was a horrible person. I downloaded a movie
- 4:03>> and I watched it. Uh in my defense wasn't a great way to watch it. [laughter]
- 4:09I don't I think that's that might be the first and only cam I I ever watched
- 4:14because [ __ ] that. >> I've seen a few cams and I just what
- 4:19what is the point of them? Like how are you enjoying watching it like this?
- 4:23>> That's terrible. Especially if it's like a movie you really want to see, which I mean I
- 4:27>> I'm fortunate enough that I could just go to the movies if it's a movie I
- 4:30really want to see at the movies, but like you know what I mean? Like >> Yeah.
- 4:33>> Then if it was like >> Project Hail Mary or something like why
- 4:36why would you watch a cam of that? that >> or like Superman or something where it's like
- 4:42>> just ruin it. >> Yes. Um >> people do. >> But yeah, so so I saw that.
- 4:48>> All right. So Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right.
- 4:53>> Second movie I saw He-Man or Masters of the Universe.
- 4:58>> Go and see this movie. >> Okay.
- 5:02>> It is fun. It makes fun of itself, but
- 5:05not in a over-the-top way. Okay. All right. >> Like um
- 5:12slight spoilers but not really >> for the [ __ ] He-Man movie.
- 5:17>> Yeah. So, you know, like the characters were called like Fisto and >> Yeah.
- 5:23>> Ram Jam and all this stuff. Ram. >> Well, in the movie that's just that
- 5:30Adam's made up in his head that he's remembering from these people that he
- 5:33grew up with. So when >> Oh, all right. When he goes back to >> Eternia,
- 5:38>> back to the planet Estonia. >> Estonia. >> Etonia. >> Yeah. Estonia. >> Eternia.
- 5:44>> Estonia. Eternia. He actually go, "Oh, there's Rayman." And he's, "What did you
- 5:49just call me?" >> Oh. >> And it's actually sort of making fun of
- 5:53like they were ridiculous names. >> So that that's not his name.
- 5:58>> That's not his name. They were called >> they don't I don't remember them going
- 6:03into that but it was just like what did you just call me?
- 6:05>> He doesn't never say what's your real name and then he says it's Jeremy.
- 6:08>> Like it's also like fisto like and he's what cuz you you fished people
- 6:15>> my name's Michael. >> So yeah. No, that's it was actually I
- 6:20think it was quite good how they actually did that joke like they
- 6:25>> sort of made light of it but >> no it was a great movie. Jared Leto
- 6:31>> didn't actually realize he was in the movie. >> Yeah, I seen a clip. It's the it's the
- 6:36clip that's going around to show you Skeletor and it's uh it's got some of
- 6:40that comedy in it. There's a bit where he's, you know, he's when his fist is
- 6:43up, that means it's he's finished that that scene, whatever it is, that's going it's
- 6:47>> Yeah. >> going around. >> Yeah. >> And you can see the
- 6:50>> I think you can see the tone of it pretty well. And
- 6:53>> I don't know. Yeah, exactly. I don't know why it's Jared Leto like
- 6:56>> Yeah. Like I don't know why they cuz they would have paid more for him to do
- 7:01the voice than >> uh I I don't want to sound bad like say
- 7:06a normal voice actor, but another voice actor. >> Sure. But they would have paid more for
- 7:11the name recognition. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> But I don't think he added anything to
- 7:16the movie [clears throat] >> and cuz it's heavily affected from what
- 7:21I heard like the it's not like he's doing a just it's just him doing a
- 7:25voice. It's him doing a voice and then they've also tweaked it.
- 7:29>> Yeah. You don't actually hear Jared Leto. You hear Skeletor,
- 7:34>> right? Hey man. But look, I I actually am really hoping
- 7:40they make a sequel. >> They How's it doing? Uh, let's see. He
- 7:47man box office. It is losing power. What does that mean?
- 7:53>> Well, pointing. Okay. Well, >> oh, >> look.
- 7:58>> Oh, not good. >> What?
- 8:02It's pulled in. I'm rounding up here. This is Google AI. I'm rounding up here.
- 8:07It's pulled in 30 million domestically and 55 million globally, but it cost
- 8:12almost 200 million to make. That's very bad.
- 8:17That's very, very bad. But it was a
- 8:23good movie. >> 22 hours ago. It is a flop, man. >> Oh, that's kind of sad.
- 8:30>> H >> cuz it was sort of fun. Like it was even a little bit of Well, not really. You
- 8:35can't really spoil this, you know, like at the end of like a He-Man cartoon
- 8:39where they all sort of do that big laugh. >> Yeah,
- 8:44>> they did that at the end like the other characters in the background like doing
- 8:47that type of laugh for a silly joke and it was just >> fun.
- 8:52>> I mean, I'll watch it. Sounds fun. Uh
- 8:56>> yeah. Okay. I guess I mean it's a hard
- 9:01cell. I think I wasn't interested in this. If you hadn't literally if you're
- 9:06not you're telling me right now >> I should go see this. It's fun and I'll
- 9:09probably enjoy it. >> Yeah. >> If you hadn't, I wouldn't have bothered.
- 9:12>> Yeah. Well, as I said, like when they first announced it, like it has grow. If
- 9:17you go back and listen to the other episodes, I went, "This is stupid. This
- 9:20looks stupid." Then >> hold on, it's starting to grow. And now I'm I'm all in. Like it's
- 9:25>> Yeah. Well, you've seen it and you're all in. >> It's sort of the the audience. I think
- 9:31it's a hard cell because it's not a the audience is us.
- 9:37>> Yeah. Kids don't wouldn't know what this was, I don't think. >> No,
- 9:42>> unless there was that series, right? The Kevin was the Netflix one, which I still
- 9:46think was aimed at us. >> Yeah. Yeah. It's like the X-Men one.
- 9:50It's like the sequel to the X-Men one we watched. Like, do kids watch that or do
- 9:54do people like us watch that? >> Yeah. because like yeah the X-Men like
- 9:5797 because like we grew up watching that and it just
- 10:02>> at the time I didn't actually know it didn't end. I thought I just didn't see
- 10:06it because >> well cuz we lived in a we grew up in Australia uh where you didn't get to
- 10:10choose what you watched. You watched what was on television. I've
- 10:13[clears throat] not seen all of the episodes of most of the things I watched as a kid.
- 10:17>> No. And it wasn't until they actually came out and go, "Oh, we're going to
- 10:20actually finish this that I found out that oh you didn't finish that series."
- 10:24I thought it was just Yeah, we didn't get >> Oh, it had a had a plot, a through plot
- 10:30and like Yeah. >> Yeah. Like things like Transformers and
- 10:33all that. I mean, I know Transformers I don't think had a through plot, but they
- 10:37would just literally just throw random episodes of [ __ ] on.
- 10:40>> Yeah. And you might see the same episode within like 3 weeks of each other cuz
- 10:45they did not care what they were putting on. >> Yeah. Very often the same episode was on
- 10:50most of the time because I think they only paid for one episode or something.
- 10:53>> Yes. cuz it was cheaper because we were just buying it from America and
- 10:59>> free to air television in Australia in the 80s.
- 11:04>> But yeah, look. Hey, man. Look, I I'm I'm a bit upset that it's not doing well
- 11:10cuz it was >> Yeah, go see it. Should have seen it four times today, Luke.
- 11:15>> I should have cuz it was a long movie as well. It's like two and a half hours,
- 11:18but also didn't feel like two and a half hours. >> Yeah, right. two and a half hours.
- 11:25>> Like you know when you go to a movie sometimes you go like >> oh yeah
- 11:28>> you feel it. You go like >> oh yeah. Is this going to be over soon? Yeah.
- 11:31>> Yeah. Do not feel it with He-Man. >> And then that brings me to today.
- 11:38>> Okay. Wait there. Okay. There's a movie that's not in here then. >> Yes.
- 11:42>> All right. I'll wait. >> Three movies today. >> I'll be patient.
- 11:46>> So I started off I woke up at a sensible time for a change.
- 11:50>> What time was that? May I ask? 9:30. >> Okay, that's pretty good.
- 11:54>> Like it's pretty good cuz like for the last >> that's a sleep in for me, but that's
- 11:58pretty good. >> Well, like for the last like I don't
- 12:01know how many months I've been waking up like at 6:00 p.m. type of thing. >> Yeah. Right.
- 12:07>> Actually, there was a weekend recently where I I I woke up at 9:30 and I was
- 12:11like, "What year is this?" Because [laughter] it just never happens.
- 12:16>> Well, [snorts] it's not that I'm sleeping in. Like I'll wake up and I'll
- 12:19throw a YouTube video on and I'll go back to sleep and then I'll It's more
- 12:23the I'm enjoying the dreams I'm having. So I'd like to prefer dreams.
- 12:27>> You're a man of leisure. >> Yes. [gasps] But I saw disclosure day.
- 12:32>> Okay. Okay. >> So as we all know I am not the biggest Spielberg fan.
- 12:39>> No. in particular. Well, there's a movie that he made that people
- 12:45have linked to for obvious reasons have have have likened to this one. >> Yes.
- 12:50>> And you don't like that movie? Close Encounters.
- 12:52>> I don't like that movie. And I did not see any bake uh any mashed potato in
- 12:57this movie. So, I don't know where they're getting.
- 12:59>> That's the only thing you remember about Close Encounters is that he builds a a a
- 13:03mountain out of mashed potato. >> There was a lot of mashed potato. Was it just like
- 13:09>> it's a big monument. It's a big volcanic. >> Who has that much mashed potato at a
- 13:14table for three people? >> When you are trying to build the Devil's
- 13:18Monument or Devil's Tower, what the [ __ ] is it called? I've got a >> Devil's Mountain.
- 13:23>> Devil's Monument. Devil's Tower. Yeah, >> Devil's Tower. Yeah,
- 13:28>> I've been there. I've got not supposed to admit this, but I've got a piece of
- 13:31it somewhere on the shelf behind me. [laughter] >> Fell into my pocket. Have you
- 13:38reconstructed that piece of mashed potato yet? [laughter] [gasps] >> Maybe. [snorts]
- 13:43>> So, >> I'll eat the rest of it. [laughter]
- 13:46>> But one thing I have found out is
- 13:51spoiler. I'm going to give a big spoiler for the end of the movie.
- 13:56>> Spielberg is a fan of Zelda, >> is he? >> Yep. That's what that whole movie was
- 14:03leading up to. Spielberg coming out as a fan >> of Zelda. >> Of Zelda.
- 14:07>> Zelda the princess or the legend of Zelda the video game.
- 14:11>> One of the fairies in one of the games. That's all [snorts] I'm saying. >> Na'vi.
- 14:15>> Yes. >> As in I think James Cameron is also a fan of Na'vi. >> Get it?
- 14:21>> So that's all I'm saying. That is the >> Look, I
- 14:24>> someone say, "Hey, listen." Is that what this [laughter] is about?
- 14:30>> Yes. [laughter] >> All right. Okay. Listen. And that's what
- 14:33I've just turned it into. Yeah. He's just a huge Zelda fan. That's what this
- 14:38movie was about. >> Did you like the movie?
- 14:42>> I think Spielberg, you don't like him. >> Is Spielberg not a I didn't mind the
- 14:48movie. It's the ending I didn't like, which I can't get into because it's just come out.
- 14:52>> Yeah. >> But it does feel like he's taking notes from Nolan. [laughter]
- 14:58>> All right. All right. Well, well, I'll translate that for anybody who's not
- 15:02familiar. Luke [ __ ] hates Christopher Nolan's movies because
- 15:06>> at the end sometimes you have to decide for yourself what happened. Luke likes
- 15:11to be told. Specific example is at the end of Inception, even though I've told
- 15:15you now what Christopher Nolan said about it. Um, at the end of Inception,
- 15:20>> it's unclear whether he's with his kids or not or whether it's a dream.
- 15:27>> Yeah. However, Christopher Nolan did answer that, but
- 15:31>> he shouldn't have to come out and say that after the movie.
- 15:34>> He didn't come out and say it. >> Somebody uh somebody asked him.
- 15:40>> And I also think >> I I question I don't question that
- 15:44that's that anecdote, right? There's no reason this
- 15:48>> there's no reason that they would lie about this. >> No,
- 15:50>> but I do question whether like that's actually like that. I don't think there
- 15:56is an answer, right? If it's not in the film, >> there's not an answer. It doesn't really
- 15:59matter what Christopher Nolan says. It's like when >> he wants you to.
- 16:04>> It's like when Ridley Scott comes out and says, you know, some decad was a
- 16:08replicant in Bladeunner and then Harrison Ford comes out and says he
- 16:12wasn't. It doesn't matter what they say. >> It's not in the movie, so it doesn't matter.
- 16:17>> Yeah. So, and yeah, it's that. So, yeah, it's the ending is a Look, I didn't mind
- 16:23it. It was was an okay movie. It's a movie I will see once. >> Sure.
- 16:28>> I'm done. Never going to see it again. >> Emily B. Good in it. I've seen reviews
- 16:34that say she's good in it. >> Oh, no. She was good in it. I I enjoyed her in it. >> Okay.
- 16:40>> Yeah. >> You know what? I don't even know. >> Um,
- 16:46was it Colin Ferrell? Was that >> Oh, yeah. Is he in it? >> Yeah. >> Colin Furth.
- 16:51>> Furth. Sorry. I knew it was a Colin.
- 16:55>> I don't know any of these people. >> Colin F and Elmery Blunt. That's all you
- 17:01need to know. >> Yeah, I'm getting old. I don't recognize actor.
- 17:05>> No, I don't think a lot of the act lot of people in I did not recognize except
- 17:10for those two. >> Yeah. Right. Well, good on Spielberg for
- 17:14branching out. It's not just Harrison Ford. And uh >> look, I will say
- 17:19>> you like Indiana Jones, right? >> Yeah. What? Yes, but
- 17:24>> I will say hang around for the credits. >> Mhm. >> Not for there's any after credits or
- 17:31anything. It's just the score by John Williams is amazing. >> John Williams did this.
- 17:36>> Yes. >> Oh, there you go. I mean, there's a reason to go see it, isn't it?
- 17:42>> There you go. >> And so, yeah, like listening to the end,
- 17:46just watching the credits, listen to music, that was that was good. like it
- 17:49didn't and I cuz I knew there wasn't going to be an end credits cuz Spielberg
- 17:53doesn't do that. Like even when he did Ready Player One, which is meant to be a
- 17:58whole take on >> everything. There was no after credits,
- 18:02which means that's where I went. Like he doesn't even understand people anymore. So,
- 18:07>> well, let me ask you this. I know you're not a big fan of his, but people are
- 18:11saying this is his best movie in a very long time. Would you agree with that?
- 18:14>> I would agree with that. Yes. cuz there's not many. It's What was the last
- 18:19movie he's done in a >> uh The Fableman
- 18:24>> was it? No. >> Director director
- 18:28previous. Yeah, the Fableman's. >> Yeah. No, I never saw that.
- 18:33>> Um Marcus Mumford Cannibal. Oh, it's a music video. >> Ah, the [ __ ] that is.
- 18:39>> Why is he directing music videos? >> Is he that hard up for cash?
- 18:43>> Somebody asked him to maybe. Oh, West. He did Westside Story. Missed that.
- 18:49All right. Uh and then um and then Ready Player One.
- 18:54>> Oh, yeah. So, this is by far his best movie in a very long time.
- 18:58>> I forgot the BFG did. Well, there's a bunch of stuff in there
- 19:03that All right. Then you get back into Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
- 19:09and then and then Munich. Munich is good. War of the War.
- 19:12>> Yeah. Okay, look. I I'm still going like his
- 19:16good to bad movie ratio is not the best. >> Nah, maybe let me look.
- 19:23>> I even still go back to Jaws. I think Jaws he is lucky that is a good movie
- 19:28because the shark didn't work. [laughter] >> I think if the shark worked that would
- 19:33be a worse it would have allowed him to make decisions he wanted to make. Yeah.
- 19:37>> Yeah. I was talking to someone about this the other day, that um episode of
- 19:41Columbbo he directed. >> Mhm. >> It's a very good episode of Columbbo and
- 19:46I would uh I'd recommend people check it out. Go see Disclosure Day and then go
- 19:51watch an the episode of Columbbo. >> Well, also I do sort of call a bit of BS
- 19:58when directors coming to do a special episode of shows because a lot of time
- 20:04the shows just run themselves. Well, >> although back then maybe not,
- 20:09>> you're right. Well, okay, he hadn't done anything before before this except TV
- 20:15series, right? So, like if you look at his IMDb, Columbbo is is right before
- 20:21Duel, the movie that made him famous. >> Yeah. >> Like same year. So, I think it was more
- 20:28a case of he was >> just working as a director. He did a few
- 20:32TV shows and stuff and then he became the guy who made Jaws like >> four years later
- 20:38>> like with the like the CW shows like with Supergirl and stuff they've had
- 20:41like guest directors like >> responsibility stuff coming in and it's
- 20:46also but they're just coming in to just be there for the day. Everyone knows
- 20:52what they're doing. Like they're just there. >> It's interesting, right? Because Yeah.
- 20:56because like if you're Kevin Smith Kevin Smith has a style I would say like
- 20:59whether you like it or not. And so to get him in to do a show that has a style
- 21:03of its own seems weird because you've gota he's just got to make it like the show.
- 21:08>> Like the show. Yeah. So while he maybe put a bit of a spin on some things, I
- 21:12think they're just >> it's there for them to get a name
- 21:16sometimes just to go, "Hey, we've got this guest director on." But
- 21:20>> unless you're going to let them do >> it their way, like their style, but they
- 21:26don't usually. >> No, because it's got to fit in. You
- 21:29can't in the middle of a season go, "And now we're going to completely change the
- 21:34story and do >> Yeah. Or just actors will start talking
- 21:37like they're in a Kevin Smith movie kind of thing." >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, but look,
- 21:42>> I'm with you. >> Back to disclosure. Look. >> Yes.
- 21:46>> It's It's okay. As I said, Spielberg's a fan of Zelda, especially
- 21:53Na'vi. >> He also came out this week and said he thinks aliens are visiting Earth. So,
- 21:58um, okay, he's lost that. >> A lot of people, there is a lot of
- 22:03people on the internet who are thinking that this was uh they're getting
- 22:07Spielberg to are about to come out and announce. >> Yeah.
- 22:12>> Yeah. Well, the White House does did put
- 22:16up recently a a a website about aliens.
- 22:22I'm not joking. Can you guess what it's actually about?
- 22:26>> I I have invading. They're invading. >> They're invading.
- 22:31>> I have a feeling that they're like people that are south of the border mainly.
- 22:37>> They're invading. They've been here all along. [laughter]
- 22:41>> The thing I quite like about quite like [laughter] All right, we got
- 22:46to get a little bit political is everyone is Trump's doing all this to
- 22:50protect our borders. Whereas if you go back and Obama and Biden deported more
- 22:56than he ever has. >> Yeah. But they didn't talk about it. >> Yes.
- 23:01>> Because that it was a negative for them, I guess.
- 23:06>> Yes. But for Trump, it's a plus, but he's also doing less [laughter] than
- 23:11what they did. >> But everyone believes that he's doing more.
- 23:16>> Yeah. Yeah, but it isn't he actually at Didn't he just have a big birthday party
- 23:20at the White House or something with the UFC there or something? [laughter]
- 23:25>> Something like that. Honestly, I stopped looking. I cuz it's Yes, they built a
- 23:30big uh a big UFC arena on the lawn at the White House apparently. It was very
- 23:35very controversial >> because it's like the [ __ ] are you
- 23:38doing? Like you you've got everyone struggling with money and gas prices and
- 23:43all this and then you're just [laughter] building an arena to have a fight in
- 23:47front of the White House. >> Yes. And then he was there was some I
- 23:50think it's America's birthday celebration thing and uh a bunch of
- 23:56basically every band one band said I'm not going to do it. And then oh because
- 24:00they announced >> Oh yes. Yes. Okay. I think what happened
- 24:04is they announced all the acts without actually asking them
- 24:07>> and then and just said all these people are going to play and then some of them
- 24:10said no and then all the rest of them said well we have to say no now because
- 24:13everyone else said no. From what I heard, it was a little bit different
- 24:15that the axe had actually signed on thinking it's just going to be like a
- 24:18hey4 thing and then it became
- 24:22>> pro Trump thing and they've gone no we were just celebrating 250 years of
- 24:28America like we're not getting >> I think because it's and it's now it's
- 24:33become even bigger thing where it's like people I I think it was not even
- 24:37necessarily pro or anti Trump in a way. They're just like, "No, no, I just don't
- 24:41want to be involved in anything like that." Like, >> yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah.
- 24:46>> But anyway, back to my movie review. >> Back to movies. >> I saw another one called
- 24:50>> Back Rooms. >> Yes. I've heard that's very good. It's directed by a YouTuber.
- 24:55>> It's It's not. >> It's not. All right. >> It's It's not I don't understand the movie.
- 25:00>> I think it's the highest grossing horror movie of all time currently.
- 25:04>> Well, it'd be high grossing because I don't think it cost a lot. Yeah, that's
- 25:09Yeah, good point. >> Yeah, >> it's the same way like remember the first
- 25:14>> Ice Grossing A24 movie. >> Yeah. So, like remember like the first
- 25:18Paranormal Activity like that for the Blair Witch $20,000 to make or something
- 25:24like that was a >> Blair Witch was like made infinite money
- 25:28because it was like negative money. [laughter]
- 25:33But yeah, back room. I I think I'm I don't actually understand what the movie
- 25:38was about or how it ended or the middle or anything.
- 25:43>> Well, see, this is like a internet meme that they've made movie. So, maybe that
- 25:48maybe you're just not >> Yeah. >> into it like >> miss the internet meme I think because
- 25:53>> Yeah. Like because I mean I don't fully get it but the back rooms is like this
- 25:57concept of like the reality behind reality kind of thing. >> Yeah. So, it's sort of like
- 26:02>> these this guy finds he goes through a wall and he finds this room and it's
- 26:07sort of like >> a bit like real life but not and then he
- 26:11sort of like it's a memory of a memory type of thing. So, you see people that
- 26:16they're not quite what >> Yeah, I think >> it's like the scaffolding for for
- 26:22reality almost. >> Yeah, >> that's my understanding of it. Like I
- 26:26said, I've seen the movie and I I haven't followed it, but it's like, you
- 26:28know, when you say you're at like a movie theater and then you open a door
- 26:31and then all of a sudden you're in like a corridor and it's all the offices and
- 26:34[ __ ] and it looks just looks completely different to the movie theater and it's
- 26:39>> which is all dark and Yeah. And then you walk in and it's Yeah. >> But look, um,
- 26:44>> don't pay to go through the movie [laughter] just
- 26:49that A24. [ __ ] you. [laughter] [gasps] >> So that's all I've got to say for that
- 26:55one. I just didn't understand it. And the other movie >> scary.
- 26:59>> No, because I did not understand [laughter] it.
- 27:01>> I suppose hard to be scared if you don't know what's going on.
- 27:04>> Although that can be scary sometimes. >> Like I was expecting sort of like jump scares.
- 27:09>> Scare you because you like you're an old band now and you just don't understand things.
- 27:13>> Didn't understand. >> But look, the last movie I saw today was Obsession.
- 27:19obsession, >> which is basically a guy makes a wish that he wants this girl that he really
- 27:26really likes to love him more than anyone else in the world. Oh, >> okay.
- 27:30>> And actually, I quite like that. It was
- 27:36so I think it's been out for a while, so I'll give a few spoilers for this one.
- 27:40>> It says, [snorts] >> "Oh, so plenty of time then." I don't
- 27:45know why it's at my movies now then. But so he makes a wish and the girl starts
- 27:50off all nice and fine but then she becomes obsessed like you can't leave me
- 27:54like you can't go anywhere like >> like at one stage she like duct tapes
- 28:00doll out like >> oh if you're having trouble getting out
- 28:03you can just not go to work and stay here with me and then he goes no no it's
- 28:07fine I'll go and then she stands there and waits for him and pisses and shits
- 28:12herself just standing there waiting for him >> nice
- 28:15>> but then you also find out that it's not actually her.
- 28:21>> And I wish I had have gone bit more into that side of it, how she's sort of the
- 28:26person that has sort of been replaced. >> Interesting.
- 28:30>> So that person's been dragged away to somewhere else and she's
- 28:34>> and I wish I'd have focused a little bit more on that. I think that would have
- 28:37made a a better movie than what it was. I did enjoy it. >> Yeah. >> All right. [snorts]
- 28:42>> And it was nice. Like one time like they're asleep and he goes he gets up to
- 28:48leave and then you hear while she's asleep she's like please kill me. >> Right.
- 28:54>> And but it's like and she's sort of it's the real Nikki. >> Right. Right.
- 28:59>> Like the person that you've been with is asleep now. I'm you've not been with me.
- 29:06Please kill me. I don't want to >> Yeah. Right. >> Doing this. And no it's actually Yeah.
- 29:11No, I actually quite enjoy it and I highly recommend that as a movie to go see.
- 29:16>> Not maybe not movie worthy, but definitely you should see it. You should watch it.
- 29:21>> Okay. It came out in May apparently. I don't know why it says 2025. Oh, is
- 29:26there two of them >> anyway? What? >> Maybe. No, no. There's there's a recent
- 29:32one. And I I I think to me there's an alternate ending. >> Oh, yeah.
- 29:38>> So, in your head or in my head. Should I
- 29:42go for a spoiler for this ending or not? >> Oh, I don't know.
- 29:47>> Go skip ahead five minutes if you don't want to hear the >> spoilers for this.
- 29:52>> All right. >> Yeah. Next thing. >> So, at the end of the thing, like at one
- 29:56part they say like like if you want the wish to end, you basically need to kill
- 30:01yourself cuz she's going to keep doing this, >> right?
- 30:05>> And this is where they go like do you want to talk to her? And you hear the
- 30:07actual Nikki like screaming in the background. >> Right. Right.
- 30:11>> And that's the real person. But at the end of the movie, you hear he does
- 30:17attempt to sort of take his life, but then sort of throws up the tablets and
- 30:21stuff and but you hear her make a wish, >> right?
- 30:25>> And you start to see that he's starting to come out and go, "Yep, we're going to
- 30:29be together forever." But then he dies and then she breaks
- 30:34free of the curse and she's screaming like, "What the hell is going on?" I
- 30:38think it would have been I would have liked to have seen them both go, "Yep,
- 30:41we're now in love, going to be together forever." I would have liked to have
- 30:44seen where those two characters actually ended up in their sort of hellscape, not in
- 30:51>> because they've essentially been replaced. >> Yeah. Right. Okay. So,
- 30:58like if the they both did the wish and then it was like these two
- 31:04cursed things, whatever they are. Yeah. >> Demons, whatever they are,
- 31:07>> zombie versions of them. >> Zombie versions. >> And but then I'd like to also see what
- 31:12happened to the actual versions of themselves, [laughter]
- 31:14>> like what's actually happening to them in the background
- 31:17>> because I know that she was basically saying like this is not her. This is like
- 31:23>> I want to see what was happening on that side of >> the Wish demon type thing.
- 31:29>> That's just me. >> So that's that's it for my movies reviews this week.
- 31:34>> Wow. You have seen a lot of movies. >> I have. And I'm not going to go see
- 31:39another movie for two weeks. >> Yeah. Right. Okay. Two weeks. Why was
- 31:44that coming out in two weeks? >> Supergirl. >> Supergirl. Right. Right. All right.
- 31:51>> Although I did see a trailer and I'm saying I just got to say this. I like
- 31:57your McGregor and shorts. >> Wait, what? [laughter]
- 32:02>> There's a trailer that I've seen a few times now. It's called The End of Oak Street.
- 32:07>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I've seen that. He's even noticed that you and
- 32:10McGregor's in shorts in that. >> Yeah. You McGregor is wearing shorts.
- 32:13That's what I'm saying. I like it. >> Okay. Ean McGregor in shorts.
- 32:20>> I think Eil McGregor would have been a very attractive man in the 70s.
- 32:24>> I Googled it and uh there are pictures
- 32:28of of him and Anne Hathaway and uh people have also Yeah. noted that he's
- 32:34wearing shorts. So there you go. >> Yeah. >> All right.
- 32:40>> I don't know when that's coming out, but I'll go see that as well. But yeah,
- 32:43that's my movie reviews, which I don't normally do movie reviews apart from
- 32:48>> I liked it. I think I did well with these ones. >> Yeah, I
- 32:52>> actually had things to say. >> No, I was I'm uh I'm I'm excited to see
- 32:56uh He-Man uh and and Disclosure Day. >> Yeah, >> based on your uh your discussion, even
- 33:01though I know you're not a Spielberg fan and I >> I'm not. But
- 33:04>> I'll hold off on back rooms. >> Yeah, back rooms. I I think it's because
- 33:09I don't understand the internet thing of it because it's >> Yeah, >> it's the same as um
- 33:15>> it's a very Christopher Nolan concept, >> but it's the same as um other YouTube
- 33:20movie that came out a while ago by Markiplier, Iron Lung. >> Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:25>> I went and saw that and I did not really understand it at all.
- 33:31>> So, game Yeah. A game where you're in like a submarine and the ocean is blood
- 33:36or something. Yeah. And you're taking um >> not photos, you're taking x-rays of
- 33:42things. And yeah, >> I think if you knew the game, it might
- 33:46have been good, but without knowing >> that part of it, it's Yeah.
- 33:53>> All right. Well, uh there a little bit
- 33:56of Stephen Spielberg, James Bond news. >> Oh, really?
- 34:01>> Yeah. In the past, people have uh said, you know, Spielberg should do a Bond
- 34:05movie because people like Indiana Jones, I guess. >> Um,
- 34:09and I mean, the news is simply that Spielberg came out this week and said
- 34:13that he pitched them >> uh quite a few times >> and they always turned him down. Uh, but
- 34:20he said, "If they ask me now, his answer will be, you can't afford me." >> And
- 34:26>> I don't know. I reckon they could because he's had one like as we were
- 34:29just talking he's had like one good movie in how many years?
- 34:32>> Yeah, I I'm not sure they'd ask him now. But um so he's kind of safe to make that
- 34:38statement and I don't think I mean they've got Denny Vill. They don't need >> No.
- 34:42>> Yeah, they don't need to. >> Yeah, I think he's just I think he
- 34:45probably gave up on it long ago and he's just Yeah. Like whatever.
- 34:48>> Yeah. Yeah. I mean it might be true. Maybe they did. Maybe he did pitch him, but
- 34:52>> I could probably see him pitching especially like back then when like
- 34:57>> I am going to say Bond >> when when Spielberg was at his greatest
- 35:02>> Bond was bigger than he was now is now. >> Yeah, I guess he I guess when maybe he
- 35:09pitched like the Dalton era. >> Yeah. >> Or um or Pierce Brosman.
- 35:15>> Yeah, he'd definitely be around there is when he would have been pitching, I'd say. And
- 35:21>> the Dalton films are good. >> Good. >> What's that?
- 35:26>> I like them. All I like Golden Eye. >> Yeah, Golden Eye is good. The rest of
- 35:31them I don't know, man. I had some rosecolored glasses on when I watched.
- 35:36Although I'll say I mean maybe I've already done this. I was surprised. My
- 35:40favorite of them is Golden Eye. Second favorite is The World Is Not Enough,
- 35:43which is the one I always joke about because or used to joke about I think
- 35:48because Denise Richards is in it. >> Yeah. >> It became kind of a joke, but she's
- 35:53actually not bad in it. Like it's only because it's Denise Richards and
- 35:58>> Denise Richards especially at the time when >> Yeah. And it's like she plays a nuclear
- 36:04physicist and it's like she was just >> You're hot.
- 36:08>> Yes. like she was known for being hot and then she was like, "Yeah, she's a
- 36:12scientist and there's a Yeah, that >> Yeah, that's really the only reason that
- 36:17it was funny." >> Yeah, >> but like watching it, she's actually not
- 36:21bad in it.
- 36:24>> They call Sping um
- 36:30>> so they called him a few years later after release of Close Encounter to Kim
- 36:34cuz he wanted to use the M movie's famous five note musical note. See? Maker.
- 36:40>> Moonrakaker. >> And he went moon raker. I got it right that time, didn't I?
- 36:45>> He said, "I'll make you a deal. I give you permission to use notes if you let
- 36:48me direct a Bond film." >> And they went, "No." >> Yeah. [laughter]
- 36:54I uh I had never put that together until I watched Moonrakaker on this rewatch. I
- 37:00think we talked about it when I watched it. >> The the the code that opens the door
- 37:06>> to the um the lab. >> Yeah. Is that
- 37:10from Is that in disclosure day? >> No. Well, not that I heard. It may have
- 37:16been a background thing that I missed like
- 37:21>> some sticky, but I don't actually I and I also may have missed where it did tie
- 37:26into Close Encounters cuz I >> because you hate that movie and you've not rewatched it.
- 37:30>> I've seen that movie a few times. I just despise it. >> Okay. All right.
- 37:36All right. And then uh we've got some um news that's interesting to me, which is
- 37:41that uh George Miller has plans to do
- 37:45one more Mad Max movie and the TV series. >> Okay.
- 37:50>> And apparently that's it. He's going to hand it off after that. So
- 37:55>> I want him to make another game, honestly. >> Well, so you know, the game was
- 38:00originally supposed to be a TV series, but he couldn't get the TV series.
- 38:04>> Actually, the game was really good. I really enjoyed it. And I
- 38:08>> the interesting thing about the game to me is looking back at it now, it's got a
- 38:13lot of stuff that is in Fury Road and Furiosa just done differently. >> Yeah.
- 38:20>> Like uh and he's not he wasn't happy with the game. I saw an interview where
- 38:23he said that he wasn't happy with it, but they took all his notes and
- 38:26everything and the game is based on >> his ideas for everything. So when you
- 38:31look at the game and then you look at the movies now, it's like, oh yeah,
- 38:34okay, they went in a different direction, but it's the same kind of thing.
- 38:37>> I wonder if it's he's not happy with the game because he didn't get to make
- 38:41his show at the time. >> Maybe >> cuz I don't see him being a big gamer
- 38:48for some reason. >> No, I I wouldn't have thought so. The
- 38:52thing that worries me about the film thing, I talked about this when I saw
- 38:56Furiosa. I liked Furiosa, but I also think I specifically saw an article
- 39:01where somebody had convinced him to do more CGI tweaking of things and I was
- 39:06like, "Oh, okay. Yeah, he shouldn't have done that."
- 39:09>> So, I hope I hope I'm hoping he didn't learn that he should do more of it. I'm
- 39:14hoping he also wasn't that happy with it and he'll go back and they did Fury Road
- 39:18>> where it's just like all pract like you do need to have like some
- 39:23>> well the thing that annoy me the most is that that
- 39:26>> they said they filmed it all practically but then they convinced him to like
- 39:30enhance it and like move things around in the frame and stuff like that. And to me I think
- 39:36>> I my brain can tell when you've done that >> and I would prefer you just don't do it.
- 39:42I will go back to a few of the things with disclosure day that I didn't
- 39:45mention is this the special effects on it. Um, there's one time you see a fox.
- 39:52>> Yeah. >> And it I don't know if it was just me, but
- 39:57>> it looked horrible. Like you could tell like CGI completely. like and it felt
- 40:04very out of place which felt strange cuz it wasn't like a
- 40:10>> I think they could have spent more time on it to made it feel more ingrained
- 40:14into the movie into the scene but it just felt like it was just thrown in last minute
- 40:19>> instead of I don't know we seem to have gone backwards on CGI for stuff
- 40:25>> I feel like that too actually and then I watch something like the Sonic movies
- 40:28which I have a friend who [ __ ] laughs every time I mention the Sonic movies
- 40:31cuz I feel like Maybe I'm a little obsessed with them, but I I'm like, man,
- 40:35the special effects in Sonic are [ __ ] great. Like, >> well, I'm going back. I think the
- 40:39special effects in Jurassic Park Oh, yeah. >> were better than this fox in Disclosure
- 40:45Day. >> Yeah, right. >> Which >> interesting >> is insane when you go back to to
- 40:51Jurassic Park being late like ' 90s. >> Maybe the fox was like a late edition.
- 40:56He's not a main character, I assume. I don't It was No, no. I I don't think
- 41:02it was a late late thing. I think it was >> relevant to the plot.
- 41:06>> It was re It was relevant to the plot. It just looked terrible for some reason.
- 41:10And I don't know why they didn't >> I don't know throw enough of $10,000 at it.
- 41:15>> Yeah. Right. Yeah. Cuz my understanding of the Bad Max thing is that they still
- 41:20shot like all the action sequences, but then >> they moved it around.
- 41:24>> Move things and like enhance things and Yeah. I don't know. I feel like you
- 41:28don't need like if I look at Fury Road which also had some CGI stuff in it and
- 41:34I wish it didn't because like like the bit at the end where the truck crashes
- 41:37and the like the guitar flies forward towards the camera that looks like the
- 41:40guitar looks fake as [ __ ] but they actually crash the truck. You can watch
- 41:44the video of it and it's like get that CGI [ __ ] out of the way. Like let me
- 41:48look at the truck. >> Look, I could see them maybe making like
- 41:52explosions a little bit like fire and stuff a little bit bigger. I can
- 41:56understand that, but that's but smash stuff into other stuff.
- 42:01>> They inferior they blew up a tanker truck and just filmed it. Just do that.
- 42:05>> That's what I want. I just want you to do it because I feel like my brain can tell.
- 42:09>> But then but they did do it for Fudarosa, but then >> Yeah. >> And then move it around.
- 42:15>> That's why I was like, "This feels close, but like it's not this." Yeah.
- 42:19This it doesn't like I said, there's like an uncanny valley thing >> with when it's been
- 42:24>> tweaked like that. And then yeah. >> Yeah. I don't know. I think it it I just
- 42:29feel that special effects have just gotten lazier with CGI.
- 42:35>> I read an article that I don't know if it's lazier. I think it's like um
- 42:40there's just so many [ __ ] movies now that studios when they get hired to do
- 42:44the special effects, they don't have time to to like focus on it. Whereas in
- 42:48some cases they do when it's something I think like Transformers when it's like
- 42:53>> uh a showpiece for the studio then you get the result is like
- 42:59>> the best you can get because they spend all the time on it. Whereas if you're
- 43:02hired to do like remember the Ant-Man movie that came out and everyone was
- 43:04like why does it look so [ __ ] Apparently, it's because the studio that
- 43:08did the effects was just overwhelmed with >> Well, I think if you still see a lot of
- 43:13it goes through ILM still like, >> right, but it's not like
- 43:18what I mean is like ILM is doing the Transformers movie versus ILM has been
- 43:23hired to do this >> to do this part. >> You know what I mean? Yeah. I I maybe
- 43:27that's got something to do with I'm guessing. >> Yeah,
- 43:30>> I'm guessing based on some articles, [clears throat]
- 43:32>> but yeah, just Yeah, I don't know. CJ just seems to have got good and then got
- 43:38bad. >> Yeah. Yeah. I apparently from what I read it's because they don't have time
- 43:43to do it the to the the level that you would >> I could sort of understand cuz like they
- 43:50throw CGI into everything now even if it doesn't need it.
- 43:54>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We'll fix it in post. >> Yep.
- 44:00>> Yeah. Anyway. Yeah. So George Miller's Mad Max movie. Cool. MX TV series. Also
- 44:05cool. And then he's gonna step aside. >> And he's gonna give it to
- 44:11>> Yeah. And might be geek of a week. [snorts] >> He's 81.
- 44:15>> Yeah. I'm just saying he's getting up there. So I can actually understand why
- 44:18he's going like, I'm going to do this and this and then I'm out. >> Oh yeah. >> Like
- 44:23>> enjoy your retirement. I got when [ __ ] Fury Road came out and he had
- 44:29done like Happy Feet and a bunch of like [ __ ] It was like what is this going to
- 44:34be? And then I got to say Fury Road is still just like gold standard for
- 44:40[ __ ] action movies for me. >> Like incredible. like it's got CGI and
- 44:46stuff in it, but but >> yeah, >> like the you can tell when they actually crashed
- 44:51the cars, stuff like that. And you can go and you can watch the videos of the
- 44:54behind the scenes when they when they filmed it. And if you're wondering,
- 44:57>> like, yeah, they just crashed cars. Like that's why it looks so real because it
- 45:01literally is. >> But no, look, I'm happy that he sort of
- 45:05like I'm doing this and then I'm out. Like it's >> Yeah, it's fair.
- 45:10>> Enjoy your retirement. And I think I wish more people would actually get to
- 45:14enjoy their retirement instead of willing about in wheelchairs for the
- 45:18rest of their lives. >> Yeah. In this case, yeah, sometimes I
- 45:22wonder, do they need to or is it just like a a drive that they have?
- 45:27>> Like Stan Lee, I think, got [ __ ] over. But did he need to be working that late
- 45:33in his his life? Well, it's sort of hard to know because cuz you got to remember
- 45:38like remember like Marvel was nearly bankrupt before the movie started.
- 45:42>> Yeah. And that probably >> I think he was loving it for a while.
- 45:46>> But was he rich out of that? >> Yeah. I don't know.
- 45:51>> Yeah, fair enough. Good question.
- 45:54>> I know people got rich off of him.
- 45:59>> Uh I have a brief uh anecdote about my phone. You got a T1?
- 46:05>> No, I [laughter] No, I should have. I uh basically short
- 46:12version, if you have Apple Care, right, you can get Apple Care
- 46:17>> One now, which is a plan where you can keep stuff on Apple Care that should
- 46:20technically have expired. My phone is four years old now, but I'm able to keep
- 46:23the Apple Care thing on it because of this thing, >> this this Apple Care 1. And uh the
- 46:29reason I did that is because when your maximum battery charge capacity drops
- 46:33under 80% of the original like you know like you can only charge up to 80% of
- 46:38what the battery once was. >> Y >> they'll replace it for free and >> with a new one or
- 46:44>> new battery. New battery. >> Oh battery. Okay. Okay. That's
- 46:47>> and I was like okay cuz I I don't care about the new phones. Um,
- 46:51>> no that those days are gone for us where we used to
- 46:56>> I mean we can talk a little bit about the new Apple stuff after this if you
- 46:59want. There is some I I won't be able to use a lot of the new stuff, but anyway,
- 47:03we get to that. Uh, so I took a phone in to get a new battery put in. It's an
- 47:08iPhone 14 Pro Max and it's filming me right now. >> Mhm.
- 47:12>> And uh, I took it in to get the battery replaced. They put it on a little thing.
- 47:15and they did some diagnostics and he said, "Oh, actually it's failed
- 47:19uh some other stuff. There's one of the sensors for the the cell service isn't
- 47:24working. Is your cell service bad?" And I was like, "I don't think so." But he
- 47:27said, "Well, anyway, it's failed. So, we have to also replace the the mid section
- 47:33of the phone, which it means we also replace the back." And I was like,
- 47:36"Okay, so that's just like most of the phone." He said, "Yeah, really? They'll
- 47:40just just take the screen off >> and [laughter] use everything else."
- 47:45>> Says he put my screen on another phone. And I was like, "Oh, all right. >> Cool."
- 47:49>> Um, it's that's sort of weird because like do you actually use it as a phone?
- 47:55>> Not so much. No. >> So, that's probably why you haven't
- 47:57noticed that you've had like you might have been having cell phone.
- 48:00>> Yeah. I mean, is that how the I guess it gets internet to it as well. Is that how
- 48:04you internet to it? I don't know. I haven't noticed any issues, but
- 48:06whatever. it failed some diagnostic. So, uh, so I took it in. So, they had to
- 48:13order the the parts for that and then I took it in, uh, and I gave it to them
- 48:18and 3 hours later I had no phone for 3 hours, which was very strange. I had no
- 48:21music in the car. Um, >> three [laughter] hours. That's a sad
- 48:27state of affairs when you notice a phone gone for 3 hours.
- 48:30>> Yeah. I handed my I I had to wipe it first because they were going to erase
- 48:34it anyway. I was like, I'll I'll just do it myself. I'll take it back up and I'll
- 48:37wipe it. So, I wiped it. I went to went in, handed it to them. I went to go and
- 48:41do some stuff and it was just so many occasions where I'm like waiting in
- 48:45line. I'm like, "Oh, I'll just check. No, I won't. I will not. Oh, oh, maybe
- 48:49I'll look up." Nope, I will not. Oh, I should make a note to Nope, not doing that. Like,
- 48:54>> I'd actually have to be very careful cuz I don't carry a wallet with me at all anymore,
- 48:59>> right? >> All I have is my phone. So, if that was to happen,
- 49:03>> I'd be broke. I couldn't pay for anything or do anything. I'd be
- 49:09>> because even though because I'm in ACT again and I'm meant to carry my driver's
- 49:14license with me in New South Wales, it was an app on the phone. >> Yeah.
- 49:18>> But because [snorts] I got so used to not having my wallet, I just I live it
- 49:24on the edge without a driver's license. [laughter]
- 49:27>> You've got one not carrying it. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> But anyway, so they were going to
- 49:31replace everything except the screen. But then when I went to pick it up, he
- 49:33said, "Oh, sorry." When he was doing the replacement, he damaged the screen, so
- 49:37we had to replace that, too. So, I have literally >> Did they replace it or just here's a
- 49:43brand new phone? >> It's from what I understand, I mean, it
- 49:47is a brand new phone because I the serial number is different. And when I
- 49:51got it back, it didn't work because it's not linked to my T-Mobile account. And
- 49:57so I had to call T-Mo from Jenna's phone and get on the chat or whatever and just
- 50:01con and convince them that it wasn't a scam because it's like I'm like, "Yeah,
- 50:05I need you to transfer my service to this." And then they're like, "What
- 50:08happened to the old one?" And I'm like, "It's got the phone got replaced."
- 50:12>> SIM card or anything. >> That's eim. >> Ah. >> And and the eSIM was not on this one. It
- 50:17was on >> it's on whatever >> Yeah. >> thing they put in the trash or whatever
- 50:22they did with it. Um anyway, so that's my anecdote. I've got a brand new iPhone
- 50:2814 Pro Max and the battery charge is it goes up to 100% now. The optimization is 100%.
- 50:34>> Which is maybe why they're doing more cuz I know my phone is very much a hey
- 50:39you put it on charge and we're going to do this special charging thing that it
- 50:42won't charge for the entire period. >> Ruins the battery. Yeah. >> Yeah.
- 50:47>> Yeah.
- 50:50But uh WWDC was this week. Uh it was not a particularly interesting one. I didn't
- 50:56even watch it because I knew it wasn't going to be the main thing. WWDC is when
- 51:01Apple announces all the new [ __ ] >> Um,
- 51:04>> new Siri is the the biggest thing. New AI.
- 51:09>> They finally released it cuz weren't they worried to not Oh, [laughter]
- 51:15>> and but they were careful this time. They got in a lot of trouble. literally
- 51:18got sued last time because >> they did this big video thing in in at
- 51:25WWDC where they said this is going to be the new Siri and they showed all these
- 51:28features of it >> that they obviously faked >> but that these are going to be the
- 51:34features. >> Yeah. >> Uh and then they couldn't do it so they
- 51:39never shipped it. I think it's a big thing. We have to actually thank Europe
- 51:43for this because Europe came up with a lot of laws to go like you can't do this
- 51:48and you can't just lead people on and >> this is not coming out in Europe because
- 51:54of all the the laws and stuff. So they like can't release it there at least not
- 51:59yet because >> until they can give what they promised.
- 52:03>> Well, I think until because this AI stuff is
- 52:08dodgy. [laughter] They're not dodgy in a in like, you know, like you know, I'm
- 52:13sure people have used them by now. You know, you kind of have to like
- 52:16>> hope that it does what you want. >> It's not like a guarantee that you're
- 52:20going to get the result that you asked for. >> Yeah. One of the funny thing I I was
- 52:25thinking about AI just recently this last week and the fact that we don't
- 52:29actually we've given up on like worrying about climate change and the environment
- 52:35now because >> well >> AI is there and we're just
- 52:41>> I don't know if it's given up given up but it just seems to AI just seems to
- 52:46have come along over the top of it and it just doesn't seem >> a bigger thing people.
- 52:53>> Maybe we solved it. >> It's probably what it is. >> I don't think we have because AI is
- 52:58costing a lot of energy. Like I've read articles where
- 53:02>> they've basically gone to some towns and gone, look, we're going to be devoting
- 53:06all your energy to these new data centers, so you're going to have to work something out.
- 53:10>> Yeah. There was I saw one the other day where something about there was like the
- 53:13taxes went up to pay for a new power plant to help with their struggling
- 53:18energy supply and then they said no it's all going to this data center like all
- 53:22of it like you don't get any of it and it's like yeah that's fine.
- 53:25>> Yeah. You're going to pay for it all but you you get none of the benefit or you do
- 53:28>> you can use [laughter] exactly.
- 53:33Yeah. Yeah. So the new uh the new Siri runs on um Gemini. It's the Google AI,
- 53:40not chat GPT, which is what they announced last time. Because I think I
- 53:44think we talked about this. One of the problems with this stuff is that you
- 53:48have to kind of ask an AI to do something and hope that it does. Like
- 53:53it's not uh it's not predictable in a way that you would ideally want. Like
- 53:58you could say, "Can you um" Well, my example that I actually did was like,
- 54:04"Can you recommend me some Formula 1 drivers to pick for my F1 fantasy team this year?"
- 54:10>> And it tells you drivers that don't exist or drivers that aren't on the
- 54:15teams that it says they are. And it's just it just the results you get are
- 54:19often questionable. And what like a famous example is if you ask chat GBT
- 54:23what is the population of a country, >> it will give you an answer. Yep.
- 54:29>> You then have to check if that's the correct answer because it just might
- 54:32have looked at the Wikipedia page and it told you the first number that it saw.
- 54:36>> Saw. And even if you call it out, sometimes you have to call it out like
- 54:40two or three times for it to go, oh no, you are actually right. When you said I was wrong.
- 54:45>> Yeah. I had to cla the other day. I said I I don't even remember the context, but
- 54:50it was like we're talking I was asking it to help with something and it
- 54:54suggested something and I was like no, no, I'm not going to do that. And then
- 54:57later on it said, "Well, maybe we could go back to that thing you suggested
- 54:59earlier." And I was like, "You suggested that?" And I said, "No." Like, [laughter]
- 55:03>> see, I am working on AI for some stuff, but the AI I'm working on is like very
- 55:08specific. It's like here is your data source that you're going to be reading from.
- 55:12>> Yeah. You've got to be really specific. >> So, if someone asks a question, you read
- 55:17from these articles. That's it. Like, you don't go off and make something up.
- 55:22Here, here here is your data set. That's it. And what my playing around with that
- 55:28seems to work quite well, but that's because it's >> very specific. >> Yeah.
- 55:32>> Like it's not go to the internet and >> right
- 55:37>> let me know what you think. And because when when the but they never launched
- 55:42the old Siri the the the first attempt at this but people were looking in you
- 55:47could see I think in the code the prompts >> that it was asking chat GBT and it's
- 55:52like this thing that you have to do where it's like okay
- 55:54>> please respond in uh you know in JSON format. >> Yeah.
- 55:59>> Also don't try to be funny. Don't do this. Don't do that. Please don't say
- 56:03anything racist. Like >> yeah, they had far too many rules for it to actually be useful.
- 56:08>> Like it's it like you just have to like say pretty pretty pretty pretty please
- 56:12don't do anything offensive. I am amazed that they're using Gemini now because
- 56:17>> I think Google made the promises that they required regarding probably you
- 56:23know performance and >> it just seems reliability for like Apple for hey
- 56:29>> we're going to use a Google product so you might as well just buy an Android.
- 56:34The other thing there's been a lot of talk about chat GP in particular open
- 56:38AAI have [ __ ] a lot of people over um like Sam Alman was I talked about the
- 56:44article about how he's he lies a lot and I in particular like they screwed over
- 56:49Microsoft and a lot of these big companies. So I think maybe Apple's like
- 56:52you know what let's go with like yes Google's a competitor but they're a
- 56:58business they're a professional business and they don't do that kind of [ __ ]
- 57:03Like if you have a contract with them, they'll honor the contract. They're not
- 57:06going to like weasle around it like no >> OpenAI keeps doing. So I think that
- 57:10might be why. >> Yeah, because also you got to look like
- 57:14if they're using Gemini, well that's what Google's using as well. So you
- 57:19can't really it's going to be sort of the same results you're getting across
- 57:23both. It's not going to be a >> like I go back to this might not be a
- 57:29onetoone comparison but remember when Google Maps and Apple Maps came out and
- 57:33Apple Maps was just completely useless. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Yes.
- 57:37>> Now if they were using Google Maps at the same time well that's one to one
- 57:41like it's not >> Yeah. >> going to give you better now but yeah.
- 57:46>> Yeah. Yeah. I'm >> not better than Google Maps. I think Gomez is still better, but like
- 57:51>> I'm still I'm still also going back a long time ago that >> Yeah. Yeah.
- 57:55>> Yeah. Yeah. And uh so the new series is a is powered by
- 58:01Gemini and uh it will it it's I mean you have to watch go read what it does. It's
- 58:08so many things like you can like take a photo and ask it what what's this and
- 58:12you can have it read you it does lots of stuff. I have been actually meaning to
- 58:17go and use um Gemini cuz I still need to go and upload my photos for my trip last
- 58:21year and I wanted to Oh yeah. >> Some of the things I wanted to do is
- 58:24like for some of the photos I went to some like beautiful places like Anchor
- 58:28Watt and things like that. >> Mhm. >> And I like to go hey can you just remove
- 58:33the people from this photo [sighs and gasps] >> and stuff like that. So, let's talk
- 58:37about that because some of the things that this can do are photoreated
- 58:42>> and I don't know what I don't know where I draw the line on this because what
- 58:47you're describing I think is interesting and fine
- 58:51>> to a degree because let's say you have two photos of anchor watt. >> Yes.
- 58:58>> One with a they both have people in them but the people are in different
- 59:01positions. In theory, you should be able to stitch those together into one
- 59:06without the people because you can see the stuff that's behind the people in
- 59:10the other photo, right? >> Yeah, that makes sense.
- 59:12>> And and and when I'm taking photos, I'm like like taking a lot of photos at the
- 59:16same time, but when you go to somewhere like anchor, >> you're not going to be there by
- 59:21yourself. >> No, no, no. Like I've got I've got when
- 59:24we're in Mexico, right? I have photos of Chichinita that it's just Jenna and I
- 59:28and that's because we got there like [ __ ] early and it was we got really
- 59:32lucky. But all the other places like um and that >> there's people [ __ ] everywhere. So
- 59:38yeah, it's just it's hard. But where I
- 59:42don't like it is when you have one photo
- 59:46and you say remove the people and it just makes up >> makes stuff up.
- 59:52>> That weirds me out. And then the other one is even worse than that where you say
- 59:57>> like or or like we talked about the one the Samsung one where you take a photo
- 1:00:00of the moon and it just >> just generates a moon. Like that's
- 1:00:04[ __ ] stupid. Like I [laughter] don't understand. >> I don't understand why anyone
- 1:00:08[clears throat] wants that. Like Yeah, exactly. It's not a photo. It's like
- 1:00:11>> like Yeah, that that makes no sense to me. Like
- 1:00:14>> and then Apple have this thing now where you can reframe a photo like like turn
- 1:00:20the camera and stuff like that because and AI generates it and I'm like that's
- 1:00:24not a photo. >> No, it's not a photo. That's like Yeah.
- 1:00:27Like what I'm doing is I just want to
- 1:00:31>> make adjustments because I'm I can't use like Photoshop and stuff like that. I'm
- 1:00:36useless. I'm never going to be able to learn that. It's just those those little
- 1:00:39things like I've got a great shot, but I've got this one person that's caught
- 1:00:43in frame. Can you just get them out of that frame for me? >> Yes. >> And so I've got this
- 1:00:49>> Yeah. >> Great shot. >> And ideally, I I think you would do that
- 1:00:52by providing it another photo. >> Another photo >> that has the stuff behind the person
- 1:00:57that they can put they can so they can do it >> based on reality, not make it up.
- 1:01:02>> Yeah. It's not like I've gone like past yep out of the car, here's a photo, and
- 1:01:06moved on and gone, "Yep, now I'll make it pretty." You know, I I want what I've
- 1:01:09taken just just >> because I feel like >> if if you're going to to if depending on
- 1:01:16the degree of it, it's almost like you could just say just make me a photo of
- 1:01:20me at Anchor and then just make have it make one and then out of nothing out of
- 1:01:24[ __ ] nothing. And it's like you could >> difference at a certain point.
- 1:01:28>> Exactly. And that's not what I want. I want to
- 1:01:33>> cuz I was there and it was amazing but because it is such an amazing place like
- 1:01:39and it's like we're rated one of the top like five places to get the sunrise in the world.
- 1:01:44>> Yeah. >> So no matter what time you get there, there are people there and we were there
- 1:01:49at like 4:00 a.m. in the morning still pitch black and there were
- 1:01:54>> people everywhere. So, you're never going to get that >> one amazing shot that
- 1:02:01>> it's just you and the temple. >> Yeah. So, I just wanted to help me with
- 1:02:06that, but using the photos I took and me, not
- 1:02:13>> stuff up from other people's photos or anything. Like when they asked the CEOs
- 1:02:16about this, Samsung's CEO said they he thinks people want the memory,
- 1:02:22not necessarily like like they're not super worried about the
- 1:02:28photo being literally the photo they took. They want to be able to look at it
- 1:02:32and remember what it was like having that experience. And I kind of get I
- 1:02:37can't Yeah, I kind of get that too. But my I also I just can't get past this
- 1:02:42thing where I'm like, "But I took a photo." >> Yeah. I want
- 1:02:46>> That's not a photo. That's just fake. Like >> Yeah. I want what I took. I just need
- 1:02:51some help to tidy up. >> Yeah. >> Some of the stuff. But use all the
- 1:02:56photos I took cuz I took hundreds. >> Yeah.
- 1:03:00>> Like it's like And yeah, I I It's a hard thing. But yeah, I don't
- 1:03:04>> No, I think it's weird. I I'm I'm going to have to I I I assume I'm actually
- 1:03:08just going to get over it at some point because this is going to become so common.
- 1:03:11>> Well, here's the thing. We will eventually get over it. It's the same
- 1:03:15thing when Kindles came out. >> Okay. I mean, it's just not quite the same thing, but
- 1:03:21>> it is. When Kindles came out, a lot of people were, well, no, that's never
- 1:03:25going to replace me having a book. I'm always going to go to books. And then, >> yeah,
- 1:03:30>> the transition eventually came. And yes, people still like to go back to books,
- 1:03:35but the Kindle is >> sure, but I mean the I'm not opposed to the digital
- 1:03:41aspect of it. I'm opposed to the fact that
- 1:03:46that if the AI generates the thing, that's not that's not what was there
- 1:03:53when I was there. >> No, but I mean the whole thing of the
- 1:03:56where where I think where the the Samsung guys come is like it's it's the
- 1:04:00memory that you're going for. And I think that's going to replace what we're
- 1:04:05actually upset about in the future. >> You're right. I'm just I just have
- 1:04:08trouble with this particular thing for some reason. >> It's kind of become the norm in
- 1:04:13>> very quickly unfortunately cuz everything's happening so quickly at
- 1:04:17>> I know. I know. I know. >> The reframing I show this demo of it
- 1:04:22>> where it was like and he was like moving the camera and you could see I just like
- 1:04:27ah that bugs me. >> Yeah. cuz that's not that's just making stuff up.
- 1:04:31>> It's just like Yeah, exactly. It's like it's it's inferring it based on what's
- 1:04:36in the photo, but it's not real. >> It might actually crazy thing is it
- 1:04:42might actually be pretty correct with if you go to some famous places.
- 1:04:48>> Unless you know what, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it like takes a bunch of photos
- 1:04:52and does it based on reality. I don't know. I I just watched this demo and I
- 1:04:56was like, I don't like that because it's to me it's not
- 1:05:01>> we're in a different world to what your daughter is going to be experiencing in
- 1:05:05the next 15 years. >> To me, when I take a photo, I'm
- 1:05:08capturing a moment of reality. >> And when you start [ __ ] with it, I
- 1:05:14get uncomfortable. My I can't help it. It's like I think it's like the CGI
- 1:05:19thing in the movies. It's like I just feel like, no, no, no, just film the
- 1:05:23real thing. I when I travel now for like
- 1:05:26my big trips, I have camera with film now. >> Oh yeah.
- 1:05:31>> I'm actually going to try and go just completely old school.
- 1:05:34>> Really? Okay. That's expensive now. >> It is expensive. And the camera I
- 1:05:39brought was very expensive for a very old camera.
- 1:05:43>> But but and I haven't even actually got them developed yet. I need to go and do
- 1:05:47that. But I'm actually going to try and do that a little bit more and try and
- 1:05:52because yes, I've got my I've got my DSLR and I've got my phone where I click
- 1:05:57click click click, but I want to try and take some photos that I'm just trying to
- 1:06:02capture like this moment and it's going to be on film and that's that's it. Like
- 1:06:06there's no >> no messing around. >> No messing around. And yeah, it was on
- 1:06:10one of the trips I went on last year. There was a girl from England and she
- 1:06:14actually sent a photo like this is one of the photos I took on film
- 1:06:18>> and it was a great shot and it like >> and it was I think that means a little
- 1:06:22bit more because >> it's not something that you took 20 photos and managed to get one that
- 1:06:29>> that's thing too. I think when you when when when you only had what however many
- 1:06:3425 photos or whatever you can fit in a roll of film, you were more selective
- 1:06:37and took more time to take a nice photo whereas now you're just like [ __ ]
