- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Little quiet because the girls are stuffing their face with
- 0:32watermelon this morning, but let's dive right in.
- 0:36So how do you handle when you know you were wrong or not
- 0:40correct or could have been better?
- 0:43However you want to say it comes down to one major factor.
- 0:47You were wrong and you have to acknowledge the fact that you
- 0:51were wrong, at least to yourself.
- 0:52Maybe not to other people, but you have to acknowledge it.
- 0:54And the question is, how do you handle something like that?
- 0:57Now, here's what's interesting about this.
- 0:59People just don't like to be wrong.
- 1:02At least I know I can have a difficult time with it in
- 1:05certain situations with my husband.
- 1:08Yes, I, I hate to admit that. And the reason this is coming up
- 1:12is because this weekend I, I have this new, I have a couple,
- 1:172 new plants to be specific. And they are carnivorous plants.
- 1:21They're hooded carnivorous, carnivorous plants.
- 1:23And I got them at a reptile show we were at for his business.
- 1:28And it was interesting because I'd never seen them for sale
- 1:32before. These people were new selling
- 1:34them. But they were beautiful and they
- 1:36looked like they were just so much fun to grow.
- 1:39So I got them because I've never grown them before.
- 1:42And the guy said to me, you know, they have to live in these
- 1:44boggy conditions. And he had them all in these
- 1:46nice pots, but right away things come to my house and they grow
- 1:50rapidly and they outgrew these pots.
- 1:52So I had to figure out, OK, what am I going to do with these?
- 1:55Because I, I, I really like them a lot and I want to make sure
- 1:59that I take the best care of them.
- 2:01So this past weekend we go out and we get a new dish that like
- 2:07a water planter that doesn't have a hole in the bottom for
- 2:09drainage. And he's going to help me create
- 2:11a bog situation because he's seen these in the wild before as
- 2:15he's a master naturalist. And so I'm like, OK, great,
- 2:18we're doing this. And he's telling me how he wants
- 2:22to create this little trellis for them so they can stand up
- 2:24better. I don't like the way he's saying
- 2:26it because I have this thing in my head about how it's going to
- 2:29look. And I said to him, I don't think
- 2:32this is going to work. And he's like, well, can we at
- 2:35least try it first? And I was pouting like, I'm
- 2:37going to be really honest, I was pouting because I didn't think
- 2:40it was going to look very good. And so he comes back, he he with
- 2:45paint sticks. I say, I don't want to use paint
- 2:47sticks. We use bamboo.
- 2:48And at least if we have to do this this way, and I'm still
- 2:51pouting, by the way. And we go through and it takes
- 2:53us about 45 minutes to get this whole thing set up and tied the
- 2:56right way. And I sit back and I look at it
- 2:59and I have to admit it looks pretty cool.
- 3:02Now I I'm thinking this to myself.
- 3:04I'm saying this looks pretty cool, but I'm not necessarily
- 3:08saying it out loud to him. And he's just like, OK, so it's
- 3:11good. And and I knew he was waiting
- 3:13for me to say that I liked the way it looked and I wasn't ready
- 3:17to say it. And I thought to myself, this is
- 3:19silly. I can say this.
- 3:20I had to switch my driver. I stand up and I went, it looks
- 3:23better than I thought it could look.
- 3:25And he's like, thank you for saying that.
- 3:29And I was like, you're welcome. And he's like, are you happy
- 3:32with it? And I said, yeah, I mean, I'm
- 3:34happy with it right now. We'll see how it looks as it if
- 3:37they can stand up with it and be safe.
- 3:41And he says, OK. And I could see that it made him
- 3:44happy to know, one, that he made me happy, but two, that I was
- 3:48able to say it and I was not holding back with it.
- 3:51So the point of this today is when, you know, I could have
- 3:56walked away and not said anything, but I knew, I knew
- 4:00that he wanted that. I knew he was looking for that.
- 4:02And I knew he had a feeling and emotion around the fact that he
- 4:07wanted to know. One, he made me happy, but two,
- 4:10that he felt like he was better inclined to inform me on this.
- 4:16And he was, because he's seen them in the wild, he knows how
- 4:19they grow. And quite frankly, he's better
- 4:22at trellising any time than I am.
- 4:25And I just sat there and thought to myself, this is so dumb.
- 4:29Just because I had an idea in my head of how it was going to look
- 4:33doesn't mean it can't have an adaptable look.
- 4:35And I know that because of how much I, you know, teach
- 4:38creativity and everything else. However, I was stuck.
- 4:42I was stuck in that mode of being that way.
- 4:45Now, when you get in that mode, the most important thing is to
- 4:50acknowledge the possibilities, stay curious.
- 4:53So when I said, all right, let's just try it in my head, I had to
- 4:57stay curious. And when I got to the end, then
- 5:00I had to jump into a place of being humble.
- 5:04I had to say I had to get humble to drive my bus in that moment
- 5:08and say, OK, stop, stop. This is something that's not
- 5:11working to sit here and just say thank you.
- 5:14You have to say it looks better or something to acknowledge it.
- 5:18Not only his effort, but his ability to put up with me
- 5:21pouting through the process. So the point of the conversation
- 5:26today is to make sure that when you know you're wrong and you've
- 5:31got to go back to it and eat some humble pie, do it and be
- 5:36happy about it because it helps us grow.
- 5:38And as soon as I did that, my friends, I felt a ton better so
- 5:42and I wasn't pouting anymore. So I hope you all have a blessed
- 5:45day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:47Bye.
