- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. The bill didn't seem that concerned about it,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and that made me feel good. That made me feel good, Like,
- 0:20Speaker 1: you know, he's okay. If he's okay, I'm okay. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: just just yes, Paul, Mike Tomlin. As much as I've
- 0:27Speaker 1: gained respect for him, I love you. Really have to
- 0:29Speaker 1: come out and say, I'm not afraid of sudden deff.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I don't fear. I never have. Okay, you have missed
- 0:35Speaker 1: a tough guy. Put it away. I think it's a
- 0:37Speaker 1: great move for the Patriots. Okay, Patriots writer on Twitter,
- 0:41Speaker 1: I can't. I can't make this stuff up. I just
- 0:43Speaker 1: can't make it up. This is a really good signing
- 0:45Speaker 1: for the Patriots. Peppers played more in the slot last season.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Just one time. I want someone to say, I'm not
- 0:50Speaker 1: sure I get this one. The beauty of the Fred
- 0:52Speaker 1: model of arguing of just move the goal around. All right,
- 0:56Speaker 1: that's going alright, alright, alright, alright, that's going too far.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I like it before, but not anymore. Jeff, I'm just
- 1:01Speaker 1: clearin it's the new eighteen. Yeah right, just the show. Sorry, Eric,
- 1:08Speaker 1: about the sky had the name gun and I thought
- 1:10Speaker 1: it'd be interesting. Okay, well you're wrong. This is Patriots
- 1:14Speaker 1: Unfiltered fueled by Dunking. All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It is Tom I mean Thursday here at stadium and
- 1:25Speaker 1: another edition of Patriots Unfiltered. The gang's all here, you know,
- 1:30Speaker 1: Eric triumphantly back from the owners meeting. Who was it
- 1:33Speaker 1: you were trying to replace me with no one? This
- 1:36Speaker 1: is this is the show. Oh okay, Deuce is here,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Eric's here, Paul's here, I'm here, Matt's in the booth,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and we're talking Patriots for the next two hours. Um.
- 1:45Speaker 1: But you know, not a lot of new Patriots news. Um.
- 1:49Speaker 1: But Tom Brady, huh, I mean, we gotta gott he
- 1:53Speaker 1: didn't do it. We got criticized, you know, I don't
- 1:55Speaker 1: because we didn't mention when he unretired. But I don't
- 1:58Speaker 1: think now we know why he had tired and we
- 2:01Speaker 1: know why Bruce arians is moving to upstairs. It's because
- 2:05Speaker 1: Tom said that's what you're gonna move upstairs. Yeah. Oh
- 2:08Speaker 1: I love it. I just said. It cracked me up,
- 2:10Speaker 1: and it was so predictable, having been on the other
- 2:12Speaker 1: side of it of all the Bucks bloggers and writers saying, no,
- 2:18Speaker 1: there's a plan, they're gonna do all long, and it
- 2:20Speaker 1: was just you know, and and who knows exactly how
- 2:24Speaker 1: it went down, but just ninety percent of the rest
- 2:26Speaker 1: of the NFL world. It's like with Tom, Tom's at
- 2:28Speaker 1: work behind the scenes, pulling the strings, and you know,
- 2:30Speaker 1: now it's Todd Bull so like you know, Byron left
- 2:33Speaker 1: which and Tom we're gonna have their little offensive me
- 2:35Speaker 1: and he's like, we're good, Todd, We're all set. Don't
- 2:36Speaker 1: worry about it. But we got we got it. We
- 2:38Speaker 1: got it. Tom runs Tampa well. And it also kind
- 2:42Speaker 1: of like, you know, makes you think a little bit
- 2:44Speaker 1: about that report from Wickersham that won two Bella check
- 2:47Speaker 1: out and one of Bill O'Brien, so he's won for
- 2:49Speaker 1: two he tried before. I was intrigued though, by the
- 2:53Speaker 1: the Dale Arnold report that you know, he was still
- 2:57Speaker 1: in negotiation with Miami, not necessarily as a player, but
- 3:02Speaker 1: I was more intrigued about the part ownership part because
- 3:05Speaker 1: that I could see as a carrot. And we know
- 3:08Speaker 1: Miami has done that with celebrities and people before, So
- 3:12Speaker 1: you know, like, would he want to have a piece
- 3:14Speaker 1: of an NFL team? I think that maybe yes, But
- 3:17Speaker 1: if he did that, I'd have to cut off ties.
- 3:21Speaker 1: How can you celebrate the part owner of another team?
- 3:26Speaker 1: Could mean you did kiss him. I know I'm as back,
- 3:31Speaker 1: but uh, could you play for a team that you
- 3:36Speaker 1: didn't own? Like, let's say he decides to become an
- 3:39Speaker 1: owner or an ownership group with the Dolphins and he's
- 3:42Speaker 1: still playing with the box. Kind of a conflict, right,
- 3:45Speaker 1: he bets then he's betting against Miami on Tampa. Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 1: it gets crazy. You can't really do that, right, No,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I don't think that would be ethical, but it was
- 3:54Speaker 1: could play if you owned the team, Like he could
- 3:56Speaker 1: buy the Dolphins and be like, I'm quarterback now. Yeah, absolutely,
- 3:59Speaker 1: I did find that as a fan, I did find
- 4:01Speaker 1: an interesting. We reminded that Dale Arnold was actually one
- 4:04Speaker 1: of the first people on Brady to Tampa, Right, That's
- 4:07Speaker 1: why people gave it some credibility. Yeah, because usually he's not.
- 4:11Speaker 1: But I don't know. Every now and then he pops
- 4:12Speaker 1: up with something. But this would to me seem like
- 4:15Speaker 1: no dice on that now, right, I would assume you know,
- 4:19Speaker 1: unless you know, the whole ownership's things on hold until
- 4:22Speaker 1: he really does retire. Yeah, my other favorite why not?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Like then, I was thinking, well, you know, I the Crafts,
- 4:28Speaker 1: it's it's the Craft family, it's Jonathan and Robert. You know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: probably Josh has a piece as well. You know, But
- 4:36Speaker 1: would they ever like give somebody like Tom Brady you know,
- 4:39Speaker 1: five percent? You know, I mean if they didn't do
- 4:43Speaker 1: it already, I don't think there's gonna be another player
- 4:46Speaker 1: coming along that they would consider it with. Right, Well,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I don't think you can do it while he's because
- 4:52Speaker 1: of the CBA rules. Yeah, you know, they tried that
- 4:54Speaker 1: with Elway. I think, well, it wasn't exactly ownership was
- 4:57Speaker 1: stock stock options or something like. Basically, that's what they
- 5:00Speaker 1: were trying to get. You can't you can't supplement their
- 5:02Speaker 1: income right anyway? Right, you know? But can you dangle
- 5:05Speaker 1: it like can everyone know it's coming? Dangle that carrot? Uh?
- 5:12Speaker 1: You know, like we know it's coming, but it's not
- 5:14Speaker 1: going to happen with that get around that. I mean
- 5:16Speaker 1: don't Well, as long as he's not playing for the team,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I still think that it could if you if the
- 5:21Speaker 1: guy was playing and you didn't want to give more money,
- 5:24Speaker 1: but you said, once you retire, you'll get a piece.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I think the league would still look at that as supplementing.
- 5:30Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, you'd have to you'd have to get
- 5:33Speaker 1: around it. Yeah, but it seems like Brady back in
- 5:36Speaker 1: Tampa and maybe for a couple of years. And I
- 5:38Speaker 1: do wonder if you know, like I have sort of
- 5:43Speaker 1: thought all along the Miami thing, the validity to it.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I think that was the grand plan was for him
- 5:48Speaker 1: to go to Miami. Yeah, I do think two years ago. Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 1: but even now, like I think that his retirement was
- 5:54Speaker 1: a power play to get to Miami. I think there's
- 5:57Speaker 1: enough sort of smoke around that. And I wonder, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 1: possibility here. I'm not saying it's true, but possibility that
- 6:07Speaker 1: you know, maybe, you know, Arians, this wasn't part of
- 6:11Speaker 1: the plant, you know, so now Arians maybe was just like, no,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I don't want to get rid of you know, he
- 6:18Speaker 1: was pretty adamant at the combine, you know, five fa picks,
- 6:22Speaker 1: that business, that business, right right, Yeah, all right, Bruce,
- 6:27Speaker 1: you go away. We're gonna do this. You go, you know,
- 6:30Speaker 1: if you want to, you don't want to be part
- 6:31Speaker 1: of it, you go upstairs. It's out there. We'll pay you,
- 6:33Speaker 1: but you know, we don't want you as part of this.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And maybe this does pave the way for them to
- 6:39Speaker 1: make a move with Miami. Maybe it's gonna be funny now,
- 6:44Speaker 1: but but after all that talk now and I'm leaving. Yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 1: you know it's right, But that's not a good look
- 6:49Speaker 1: for him. But it would be very obvious. But you know,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I mean, at the very best I think for Brady,
- 6:57Speaker 1: he forced to head coach out. Yeah, like I think
- 6:59Speaker 1: that's the best. He looks well. He he walked up,
- 7:01Speaker 1: could be a lot more slapped arians in the face
- 7:03Speaker 1: and then he walked off and they wanted them to leave,
- 7:06Speaker 1: and he said, no, right, but what's Tom gonna let
- 7:09Speaker 1: him do in the front office? Now? Is he gonna
- 7:11Speaker 1: come down to So guys, how's how's the game plan coming? Like, Bruce,
- 7:14Speaker 1: you're out, get out here, Bruce is show up. He's
- 7:19Speaker 1: just gonna collect the page. I just wonder if where's
- 7:22Speaker 1: hats And because wars hats, the Miami stuff won't go away.
- 7:28Speaker 1: And on the surface, you look at it and said,
- 7:29Speaker 1: there's no way he could play for Miami this year
- 7:31Speaker 1: unless Tampa. Let's yeah, unless, unless, unless, unless they get
- 7:36Speaker 1: somebody to replace Tua, and then that that ends it.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You know, now we've got our big quarterback, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 1: like if they signed you know, or if they draft
- 7:47Speaker 1: a first round pick or something like that. You know,
- 7:51Speaker 1: but right now, you know, I'm saying the low way
- 7:54Speaker 1: that Brady can play for Miami unless Tampa lets him,
- 7:57Speaker 1: is my point. Oh yeah, and I'm wondering if maybe
- 8:00Speaker 1: arians was the big stumbling bluff because he's so stubborn
- 8:03Speaker 1: and he's been so adamant about it. Maybe Tampa, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: maybe Jason Light is saying, oh this is you know,
- 8:11Speaker 1: we maybe do something that can set us up here
- 8:14Speaker 1: for the next five years. But it seems to me
- 8:17Speaker 1: like it's now okay, Bruce has gone. That's what it seems.
- 8:20Speaker 1: That's what it looks like. Yes, I'm giving you the
- 8:24Speaker 1: X five. Yeah, there's still a possibility. I mean, this
- 8:26Speaker 1: has been a wacky I was thinking to myself, this
- 8:30Speaker 1: might be the most anticipated NFL season we've had because
- 8:36Speaker 1: there's so many stories. So you want to see how
- 8:40Speaker 1: it turns out. You know, every AFC West game is fascinating. Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 1: the whole Shaun Watson saga. Yeah, how that turns out,
- 8:48Speaker 1: how Russell will Will Aaron Rodgers be able to keep going.
- 8:53Speaker 1: There's so many stories this year. I like stories. Yeah,
- 8:57Speaker 1: it's I I can't wait. And it's only going to
- 8:59Speaker 1: get better and more intense during the draft when all
- 9:03Speaker 1: these guys, all these talented players start landing places and
- 9:06Speaker 1: you know, you know, just to use an example of
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know, Jamison Williams or one of these you know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: top ranked receivers and all of a sudden they're on
- 9:13Speaker 1: a team that you know, it was really good that
- 9:15Speaker 1: you're like, well, this guy, we didn't really think about
- 9:17Speaker 1: them before free agency, but now after the draft, they've
- 9:19Speaker 1: got this guy too, and yeah, maybe maybe that's when
- 9:21Speaker 1: the move gets made between Tampa and Miami. Yeah, draft,
- 9:25Speaker 1: when they see what at the draft, what happens? Yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I don't know. It was a lot of interesting stuff
- 9:31Speaker 1: though in that statement by Arians. The funny one that
- 9:33Speaker 1: I liked was you know, Tom might get hurt and
- 9:35Speaker 1: we go ten and seven, Like you're gonna go ten
- 9:37Speaker 1: and seven on that time, right and also saying that
- 9:39Speaker 1: like you know, we're we're in we're in a great
- 9:40Speaker 1: spot right now, and it's like, well, yeah, but Tom
- 9:43Speaker 1: Brady is forty five like you are. But until he says,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I mean, what were you looking at those forty days
- 9:49Speaker 1: he was retired? You want in a great spot right now,
- 9:51Speaker 1: he's full of it. I didn't listen to a word
- 9:53Speaker 1: he said. You know, yeah, if you're asking me my thoughts,
- 9:57Speaker 1: my thoughts that Brady pushed him out, Yeah, and he
- 10:00Speaker 1: the power struggle much like he wanted to lost the retirement. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know, so I think he's gonna end up playing
- 10:08Speaker 1: for Tampa Bay, but I do. I'm intrigued like everybody
- 10:11Speaker 1: else about the persistence of the Miami room, you know.
- 10:14Speaker 1: And you reminded me of something that I was thinking
- 10:17Speaker 1: of when I was listening to one of your shows
- 10:19Speaker 1: about Brady's last year here and how you know, he
- 10:23Speaker 1: probably was in a power struggle and Kraft made a choice.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But you know, I was Brady is one for two,
- 10:30Speaker 1: you know, and you know people were criticized, Well, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Kraft decided, you know, to let him go and he
- 10:36Speaker 1: got nothing for him. And that's true. But you know,
- 10:40Speaker 1: Robert said years before that when it comes time, Tom
- 10:45Speaker 1: Brady's gonna be able to leave. I'm not going to
- 10:47Speaker 1: trade him. He's he's earned the right to decide his future,
- 10:51Speaker 1: and he lived up to his word. He could have
- 10:53Speaker 1: franchised him, he could have not given him that clause
- 10:55Speaker 1: in the you know, but why couldn't he have traded
- 10:57Speaker 1: him and given him his wish because he you mean,
- 11:01Speaker 1: to a team that he wanted to go to. Yeah, well,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I know, like Deshaun Watson just got that, I know.
- 11:06Speaker 1: But the promise he made to Brady was he's gonna
- 11:09Speaker 1: get I'm just gonna let him go. I'm not gonna
- 11:11Speaker 1: trade him. He said those words, and he lived up
- 11:14Speaker 1: to him, you know, and like it hurt. It's not
- 11:17Speaker 1: good business, as Bruce Arian said, but that's what he
- 11:20Speaker 1: said he would do, and he did it. And you know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you could you could only hope that you know, that's
- 11:26Speaker 1: the way you're treated some day. You know, Well, I
- 11:28Speaker 1: just think you could have treated me exact same way
- 11:30Speaker 1: and gotten something. Yeah, Like, I don't think there's any
- 11:33Speaker 1: difference in the treatment. Involve him in the process where
- 11:35Speaker 1: you want to tell me exactly where you want to go,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and now I'll work, I'll get something. I guess he
- 11:41Speaker 1: could have done that, but you know, yeah, I mean,
- 11:44Speaker 1: like I said, that's what Watson. Watson had a no
- 11:46Speaker 1: trade clause, so he had okay wherever he went. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:50Speaker 1: like you can take care of the guy and still
- 11:51Speaker 1: get something. I suppose. Ye. That Watson thing just making
- 11:55Speaker 1: me sick the more that comes out with that stuff, like,
- 11:57Speaker 1: oh yeah, I know, I'm sorry, I'm going. There was
- 12:03Speaker 1: some of his depth deposition that was released and you know,
- 12:05Speaker 1: him pleading the fifth on why he's tweeting, you know
- 12:08Speaker 1: that he's in New York on Instagram when he was
- 12:10Speaker 1: in fact in Houston with you know, an unlicensed massage,
- 12:14Speaker 1: like all these different people talking about I didn't hear that.
- 12:17Speaker 1: That's yeah, that's you know, I under the ice of
- 12:19Speaker 1: my attorney, I pleaded to fit. Uh. But a lot
- 12:21Speaker 1: of like was this a massage license? I don't know,
- 12:24Speaker 1: Like it's just like he just gets massages from random people.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I think it's a fetish, and I really do, I do.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I know. I think it's something weird like that. And
- 12:31Speaker 1: and I'm also pretty convinced that this is you know,
- 12:34Speaker 1: not that you can put Cleveland in the toilet anymore
- 12:36Speaker 1: than they probably are. But I mean, this doesn't work out.
- 12:39Speaker 1: They're screwed. I mean, they are screwed for a long time.
- 12:42Speaker 1: All the money that they're gonna be paying that guy.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I mean, if it comes out, if they you know,
- 12:46Speaker 1: if they do get something to stick on him and
- 12:48Speaker 1: he gots to go to jail or something, I mean, yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you know, and they have no picks they got. I mean,
- 12:52Speaker 1: they put all their ducks in there just to watch. Like,
- 12:54Speaker 1: you know, I can't help but feel for some of
- 12:56Speaker 1: the content people at the Cleveland Browns because they got
- 12:58Speaker 1: to sit down and be like, so, tell us, what
- 13:00Speaker 1: is Deshaun Watson gonna bring to plan, you know, and
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's like cringe worthy, And I just I haven't felt
- 13:07Speaker 1: this way since Antonio Brown and that whole situation, and
- 13:10Speaker 1: it just stinks. I agree. The one thing I would
- 13:12Speaker 1: say for for Cleveland, though, is I don't know this
- 13:15Speaker 1: for certain, but if it goes that bad, like Mike
- 13:18Speaker 1: is saying, and he ends up still him, you know,
- 13:20Speaker 1: they don't they won't have to pay him. Then. Yeah,
- 13:22Speaker 1: if he goes to jail, it's probably clause it's probably
- 13:24Speaker 1: if he goes to jail or he's like suspended indefinitely, right,
- 13:29Speaker 1: they're not gonna have to pay him. Yeah, but they
- 13:31Speaker 1: did give up a lot of capital, right right, Yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: picks they get, they give up a lot of first
- 13:35Speaker 1: round picks. Nick, can we have Yeah, it's this sorry,
- 13:41Speaker 1: sorry to me. It's the bigger thing for Cleveland is
- 13:43Speaker 1: what it might do to the brand, right, you know
- 13:45Speaker 1: like Washington, right, I mean, has it split their fan base?
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't know. But if it goes bet like see
- 13:51Speaker 1: if it go if it works, then all was forgiven.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But if it goes bad, like Mike is explaining, now,
- 13:57Speaker 1: those people have a louder voice, and I have to
- 14:00Speaker 1: change the name from Flying Jade to the Flying fs.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah not good, No, Yeah, that that deserved rim shot.
- 14:08Speaker 1: You threw it out there. People need to know that's
- 14:12Speaker 1: the name of the company. Haslem, the Flying Jay I
- 14:17Speaker 1: got it. It's risky, risky. I mean, it's just I know,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I know, high level business creators need to be allowed
- 14:25Speaker 1: to create. Freddy, Oh he was talking about the move
- 14:28Speaker 1: from Watson. I'm just talking about you. And sometimes you
- 14:30Speaker 1: got to push them, that's right. I was trying to
- 14:32Speaker 1: let it die. Yea. So those are stories, obviously, and
- 14:40Speaker 1: we've got a lot of emails because if you have
- 14:42Speaker 1: nothing to talk about, just bring up the overtime rules.
- 14:45Speaker 1: They did change him for the playoffs. That's official. So
- 14:50Speaker 1: it's just dumb because after two possessions, if you both score,
- 14:53Speaker 1: you're back to I. So I totally agree with you.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I hate the fact that I can't argue with you
- 14:58Speaker 1: about it, but I just feel like they were like two, three,
- 15:02Speaker 1: four different things that were on the table, and they
- 15:04Speaker 1: took the worst option, right, They took the worst option
- 15:08Speaker 1: and they ran with it. Don't you think that this
- 15:10Speaker 1: is gonna come up again? Though? Like this? You know
- 15:12Speaker 1: how the NFL does things, They very rarely like drastically
- 15:15Speaker 1: changed things. They take incremental steps towards they evolved, right,
- 15:19Speaker 1: kind of like the eighteen games, they went to seventeen first.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Now you know it's gonna be eighteen at some point,
- 15:23Speaker 1: but they're going with seventeen for now. I have a
- 15:26Speaker 1: feeling this is going to be the same thing. There's
- 15:28Speaker 1: gonna be another game down the road, whether it's this year,
- 15:31Speaker 1: next year, where two teams get the ball in overtime
- 15:34Speaker 1: in the playoffs, and then the next the team to
- 15:36Speaker 1: had it first is gonna get kick a field goal.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It's gonna be over, and then they're gonna submit it again.
- 15:40Speaker 1: And then they're gonna change it, and eventually it's probably
- 15:42Speaker 1: gonna be what we've talked about. Just play another quarter, Yeah, exactly,
- 15:46Speaker 1: play another ten minutes. If you got a winner at
- 15:48Speaker 1: the end, great, If you don't, you play another quarter.
- 15:51Speaker 1: But I even like some of you know that's my
- 15:53Speaker 1: you know, I'm with Bill, and I make it fifteen.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I make it the same. But I'm with Bill on that.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Just play a time quarter and make it real football.
- 16:01Speaker 1: But like even some of the other things you know that,
- 16:04Speaker 1: I think you're too gimmicky, gimmicky, but they're better than you.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I hate that. I don't like them either, but it's
- 16:12Speaker 1: better than this. Yeah, this is the same problem, only prolonged, right, right,
- 16:16Speaker 1: right right. I think you have the same problem that
- 16:18Speaker 1: you've had. The inequity of having the first possession. Yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 1: gives you an advantage. Like they haven't. They haven't taken
- 16:27Speaker 1: away the importance of winning the coin toss. Right. It's
- 16:31Speaker 1: it's like said, somebody's gonna score score. We didn't get it,
- 16:35Speaker 1: we didn't get a second. There is still with an
- 16:37Speaker 1: advantage to winning the coin toss. There's still an advantage
- 16:39Speaker 1: to that. I don't think it's a fluke that it's
- 16:41Speaker 1: it's ten and two. Like people say, it's not a big,
- 16:43Speaker 1: big sample size. Yeah, but it's also not you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: six and six, it's ten and two. You win the
- 16:50Speaker 1: coin toss, you win the game ten out of twelve times.
- 16:54Speaker 1: It's just gotten so convoluted, and that's why it feels
- 16:56Speaker 1: so much easier to argue, just play an extra like
- 17:00Speaker 1: that's football. You're gonna have the same kind of game
- 17:03Speaker 1: planning approach to the whole thing. I mean, that's kind
- 17:05Speaker 1: of like what your sport decided to do eventually they did, yeah, right,
- 17:08Speaker 1: because they had the golden goal. Soccer just play another half,
- 17:13Speaker 1: you know, And ironically, that's a sport that should have
- 17:16Speaker 1: a golden goal because scoring is so much more difficult, right,
- 17:19Speaker 1: and both teams get a chance. You know, I just
- 17:22Speaker 1: hate it. I even hate it with hockey, where it's
- 17:24Speaker 1: three on three and over time and it's just but
- 17:26Speaker 1: that's just but that's just regular season. Like in the playoffs,
- 17:30Speaker 1: it's it's just hockey until someone scores. And again soccer hockey,
- 17:36Speaker 1: like the line between offense and defense changes. No one
- 17:39Speaker 1: starts the game, no one starts with the chance to score, right,
- 17:43Speaker 1: So it's not the same as football. The only problems
- 17:46Speaker 1: with soccers thing is that after they play the two
- 17:49Speaker 1: halves of over and they do the shootout, which and
- 17:53Speaker 1: the team that got their butts kicked it can win
- 17:55Speaker 1: the game because they just made one extra goal in
- 17:58Speaker 1: the shootout? Did they really get their butts kicks? But
- 18:01Speaker 1: you know, like one team controls the game, has possession.
- 18:03Speaker 1: But didn't that happen? That happened? Oh boys, that's how
- 18:07Speaker 1: we got eliminated, right yeah, well yeah, yeah, no, Italy
- 18:11Speaker 1: lost to North Macedonia while something like something to four
- 18:17Speaker 1: North Macedonia is pretty scrappy though, yeah, yeah, right, I
- 18:24Speaker 1: have that right. I mean it was like a complete
- 18:26Speaker 1: and total donal nomination that they lost in kicks, right yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 1: I think I just always think they get a goal.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe yeah, And it's just not there's
- 18:34Speaker 1: no increates incongruity, thank you in incongruity, I can't talk,
- 18:38Speaker 1: but that's what you know. I just I don't like
- 18:40Speaker 1: it being different in overtime, where it's suddenly a different,
- 18:43Speaker 1: different game, there's different rules, there's different all of a sudden,
- 18:46Speaker 1: and so it's like it just doesn't feel quite right.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And you know, even when hockey, I was talking to
- 18:50Speaker 1: somebody about it with like, you know, it's like me,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I played defense. It's like, oh, we're going to shoot out.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Looks like I'm out of deciding this game. You know,
- 18:56Speaker 1: like like half your team is no longer really involved.
- 18:59Speaker 1: High scoring defense, low scoring but offensive offensive but low scoring,
- 19:03Speaker 1: offensive minded but low scoring oftentimes defense combination offensive minded.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no, no, offensive minded, but no scoring.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I will say this until until I coached hockey. Then
- 19:15Speaker 1: I realized the true value of a kid who plays
- 19:17Speaker 1: defense and loves it and goes out there and is
- 19:20Speaker 1: reliable just playing defense. He doesn't care if he scores.
- 19:22Speaker 1: He just goes out there and plays his ass off
- 19:24Speaker 1: in the defensive zone. And you know, you're getting that
- 19:26Speaker 1: every time. And until I had a coach, I was
- 19:28Speaker 1: coaching and realize, you know that that can I just
- 19:31Speaker 1: get one of those guys, you know, Then then you
- 19:33Speaker 1: realize everybody thinks they're gonna be Bobby or and skate
- 19:36Speaker 1: up the ice and yeah, anyway, no, it's it's something
- 19:40Speaker 1: you can rely on. Yeah, I mean, and I'm you know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm sure that there's uh, you know, some crossover to football.
- 19:45Speaker 1: By the way, way. Well. The other the problem with
- 19:47Speaker 1: with the NFL is I think most of the time
- 19:51Speaker 1: when you get to that overtime, it's the defense that's
- 19:53Speaker 1: worn out, Sir sides. Yeah, it's it's they're just they're
- 19:57Speaker 1: just tuckered out, you know, like like like the Falcons
- 20:00Speaker 1: in Super Bowl fifty one where they won the toss.
- 20:03Speaker 1: You're like, there it comes. It's old, right, and we
- 20:05Speaker 1: were good because we hadn't played defense all games, That's true. Uh,
- 20:11Speaker 1: they that would have been interesting because that might have
- 20:13Speaker 1: been one of the ones because I don't know if
- 20:15Speaker 1: Atlanta would have scored, like you know, usually you say
- 20:17Speaker 1: it right, if you know, if Buffalo had won the toss,
- 20:21Speaker 1: Kansas City had won the tosk, is there any doubt
- 20:24Speaker 1: if we're going to overtime, Rams had won the m
- 20:28Speaker 1: we've gotten three, yeah, and back then it was that's
- 20:30Speaker 1: all you would have needed, right, yeah, you know. So
- 20:33Speaker 1: we're so lucky that Brady didn't take a knee. You know, man,
- 20:38Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't even think of that. It's you're right,
- 20:41Speaker 1: because they were it was like visually that last one, right,
- 20:44Speaker 1: we was just like three four playing right and walk
- 20:47Speaker 1: they figured it out. Yeah, and we had played hard defense.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I mean we were, you know, always pressured. You just
- 20:54Speaker 1: want to feel like the best team won, and all
- 20:56Speaker 1: of a sudden you get to a new period, the
- 20:58Speaker 1: rules change, and you know, it's just it's a fluid thing.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But it's not the same and you play different, you
- 21:04Speaker 1: plan different play. Yeah, just not this. I just would
- 21:08Speaker 1: like it if it was just normal football for another quarter,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and I feel like we're gonna end up back there.
- 21:13Speaker 1: It's gonna just because I think it too logic, I
- 21:15Speaker 1: think it will it just that that's the way the
- 21:17Speaker 1: NFL does things. They do things incrementally and until finally
- 21:20Speaker 1: they're like, okay, okay, we'll do this, yeah, this way,
- 21:22Speaker 1: and then you kick a two point and then you
- 21:23Speaker 1: can get a second chant like why are you going
- 21:26Speaker 1: down this whole weird rabbit hole? Make it a different game,
- 21:29Speaker 1: all right? Eight five five Pats five hundred is the
- 21:31Speaker 1: ace ticket hotline web radio at Patriots dot com. Is
- 21:34Speaker 1: the email address any Patriots news to speak up since Tuesday,
- 21:37Speaker 1: not really really just the signing. You had the Peppers thing,
- 21:40Speaker 1: yeah peppers during the show. During the show, he uh
- 21:46Speaker 1: he signed it looked like and uh no, I think
- 21:49Speaker 1: there's just a lot of positionless defense. I thought, well,
- 21:52Speaker 1: that was, yeah, this was this was something like a
- 21:53Speaker 1: little bit of a b in my basketball now, well
- 21:57Speaker 1: it was, you know, Jonathan Jones tweeted out, you know,
- 21:59Speaker 1: position less defense is the future, and and you know,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of people kind of latch onto it,
- 22:04Speaker 1: and I feel like it's like hope that well, we
- 22:08Speaker 1: we're like like we're one step ahead again, and like,
- 22:11Speaker 1: I don't I don't really. I just think it's kind
- 22:13Speaker 1: of like a nebulous term that people are kind of
- 22:16Speaker 1: relying on when it's like I feel like defense is
- 22:19Speaker 1: generally positionless anyway. There's leverage there, you know, it's not
- 22:22Speaker 1: I mean, and certainly you need guys like you're always
- 22:25Speaker 1: gonna need outside corners, Like you can't tell me that
- 22:28Speaker 1: you're gonna just put eleven strong safeties out there and
- 22:30Speaker 1: everybody's gonna be able to do everything right. Like it's uh,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I don't know, I just it was a little bit
- 22:35Speaker 1: of insight. I don't know if Jonathan Jones was saying
- 22:37Speaker 1: this specifically. I mean, I think some people may be
- 22:39Speaker 1: interpreted as well, they're in spring meetings and this is
- 22:42Speaker 1: what they're talking about and they're saying, you know, well,
- 22:44Speaker 1: you know, I know we didn't force a punt last game,
- 22:45Speaker 1: but you know we're gonna shift to this. So I
- 22:49Speaker 1: just think it's it's it's one of those things where
- 22:51Speaker 1: I think you're putting too much hope in overthinking what
- 22:55Speaker 1: you're gonna do instead of just can we just get
- 22:58Speaker 1: guys that can do you know, the win at the
- 23:00Speaker 1: line of scrimmage and can run in the secondary, and
- 23:03Speaker 1: you know, and cover and and stop. With all these
- 23:05Speaker 1: like intriguing terms of position defense, no one's gonna be
- 23:10Speaker 1: able to figure out what we're doing. You know. It's
- 23:12Speaker 1: true that like Nickel is no longer a sub package.
- 23:15Speaker 1: You know, it's almost like a basic defense from what
- 23:18Speaker 1: most teams. You know, So there has been changes, but
- 23:21Speaker 1: you still like you can go ahead and put you know,
- 23:24Speaker 1: eleven safeties out there and I'm gonna run the ball
- 23:27Speaker 1: and we're just gonna run it all over you. You know,
- 23:29Speaker 1: so had enough trouble stopping the run the last couple
- 23:32Speaker 1: of seasons with traditional lines. Yeah, so it's maybe the
- 23:37Speaker 1: position doesn't matter, the title of the position doesn't matter,
- 23:39Speaker 1: but the skills matter. Yeah, you gotta have guys that
- 23:42Speaker 1: can win. Like you said up front, you gotta have
- 23:45Speaker 1: guys that can cover on the outside with speed or
- 23:48Speaker 1: you're gonna get burned. You know, Like, it's not like
- 23:51Speaker 1: the other team doesn't take into account who you have
- 23:54Speaker 1: on the field and what their skills are they do
- 23:56Speaker 1: and they're gonna it's all. It's all about matchups, you know.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It's just that it gave me no no comfort to
- 24:03Speaker 1: hear that. And and it's okay coming from Jonathan Jones,
- 24:05Speaker 1: because I think he is one of the guys that
- 24:06Speaker 1: you know, you can kind of move around, and you
- 24:08Speaker 1: know that he doesn't really have a position, right He
- 24:11Speaker 1: started as a slot corner and and and you know
- 24:13Speaker 1: you saw him play more safety. And I mean, but
- 24:15Speaker 1: they move him around. You're not going to put him
- 24:17Speaker 1: at nose tackle. It's fine with a handful of guys
- 24:21Speaker 1: in the middle of the field in the secondary. It's
- 24:23Speaker 1: not applicable to the align of scrimmage to the outside
- 24:27Speaker 1: corners and and to to the Free State, although they
- 24:29Speaker 1: did experiment for at least a few games with Kyle
- 24:32Speaker 1: Arrington as an edge rusher. I do against the Colts,
- 24:36Speaker 1: I remember that, jeez, that was like ye and I
- 24:38Speaker 1: don't have any problem with the work. Not really, I didn't,
- 24:42Speaker 1: But I don't have any problem with with with different
- 24:44Speaker 1: things and trying to be innovative and whatnot, and and
- 24:47Speaker 1: you know, taking chances and what. But one thing that
- 24:51Speaker 1: you said that I really like isn't defense in general, Like,
- 24:54Speaker 1: once the play happens, Okay, so you're lined up in
- 24:57Speaker 1: a position, But once the play happens, isn't everybody on
- 25:00Speaker 1: defense's goal to get the guy with the ball onto
- 25:02Speaker 1: the ground, right? Like, So if the wide receiver catches
- 25:05Speaker 1: a pass twenty yards across the middle, and let's just
- 25:08Speaker 1: say he ends up the reversing field, should the like
- 25:11Speaker 1: the nose tackles say, well, they didn't run the ball,
- 25:13Speaker 1: so I don't have to worry about trying to get him.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Just sit and watch. You know. Let's just say, for
- 25:16Speaker 1: our arguments, say the guy cuts across the field, he
- 25:18Speaker 1: reverses field, and yeah, you know, there's delays and the
- 25:21Speaker 1: defensive lineman are chasing him down just because he's a
- 25:24Speaker 1: wide receiver who caught the ball and it's the cornerback's
- 25:26Speaker 1: job to cover him, right, doesn't mean that the defensive
- 25:29Speaker 1: lineman can't try to get involved in the play. And
- 25:31Speaker 1: then every play is defense, you know, like positions. Once
- 25:34Speaker 1: the balls in the guy's hands, everything breaks down right
- 25:37Speaker 1: right then, and then you have you don't have line,
- 25:38Speaker 1: you have a run forced player. You have you know,
- 25:40Speaker 1: guys on the backside that are pursuing like I mean
- 25:42Speaker 1: that and that you know that, And to Paul's point,
- 25:45Speaker 1: it doesn't positions don't matter at that point. Yeah. I mean,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just an edge rusher and they ran
- 25:50Speaker 1: the ball the other way. So I'm off this play
- 25:52Speaker 1: like I'm trying, you know, I'm just gonna take it off.
- 25:54Speaker 1: But you have a job on every play. Every player
- 25:56Speaker 1: has a job on every play. That job becomes, like
- 26:00Speaker 1: Paul said, get the guy with the ball. But prior
- 26:02Speaker 1: to that, to keep him respond responsibilities. Yeah, and you know,
- 26:06Speaker 1: and to again, yeah, you can take Adrian Phillips and
- 26:11Speaker 1: employ him as a linebacker. A lot of teams do
- 26:13Speaker 1: stuff like that. But now are we suggesting now that
- 26:17Speaker 1: they're going to do this with like three gat like
- 26:18Speaker 1: instead of linebackers, we're gonna have three safeties. I think
- 26:21Speaker 1: that's what I mean, that's what worried about that. I
- 26:24Speaker 1: think it sounds that because I don't think you can
- 26:26Speaker 1: do that unless you get away with unless one of
- 26:28Speaker 1: them is really good in coverage, and then really is
- 26:31Speaker 1: he a cornerback? You know? But I'm just saying, if
- 26:36Speaker 1: you have like Jabrol Peppers is like what to fifteen
- 26:42Speaker 1: to ten? Like he's small, he's small for the small
- 26:47Speaker 1: linebackers that Bill supposedly thinks are too small, right, Like
- 26:51Speaker 1: he's like ten fifteen pounds, smaller than like Nakobe Dean
- 26:55Speaker 1: in the draft. Yeah, and now you're gonna use So
- 26:58Speaker 1: you're gonna use like, Okay Phillips. He has shown that
- 27:01Speaker 1: he can do that. He could be a box safety.
- 27:03Speaker 1: That's what Peppers has done in his career. So now
- 27:05Speaker 1: you're gonna play both of them at the same time.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And then where does dugger fit in? Yeah? Right, So
- 27:11Speaker 1: you're gonna play with four safeties on the field at
- 27:12Speaker 1: the same time. You're gonna have corners. You're gonna have
- 27:15Speaker 1: you know, Malcolm Butler and Jonathan Jones probably in Jalen Mills.
- 27:19Speaker 1: It's now you're gonna have seven defensive backs on the
- 27:21Speaker 1: field all the time. Yeah, and you're gonna stop the run.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I was wondering, you know, is there a rule you
- 27:27Speaker 1: have to have you have your five you know, uh,
- 27:31Speaker 1: you have to have five lines on the line for
- 27:32Speaker 1: offense right for defense? You know, does it matter where
- 27:37Speaker 1: guys line up? Like you could literally not even have
- 27:40Speaker 1: anyone on the line if you want it right. There's
- 27:42Speaker 1: no rhyme or reason to what that is, right, you
- 27:45Speaker 1: just you got everybody's got to have a gap. That's
- 27:47Speaker 1: you know, well to stop the run, everyone has to
- 27:50Speaker 1: have a gap. But there's no rules saying you have
- 27:52Speaker 1: to line out like where you have players at the
- 27:54Speaker 1: end of the game. We've seen guys with you know, standing,
- 27:57Speaker 1: no defensive line all everybody's back, right, But this responsibility,
- 28:03Speaker 1: you know, people have it like even even if I'm
- 28:05Speaker 1: three yards off the line of scrimmage, I probably have
- 28:08Speaker 1: a responsibility if the ball, if the point of attack
- 28:11Speaker 1: goes this way, I'm responsible for this area of the field.
- 28:14Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, and you got to be able to
- 28:15Speaker 1: get there. And you know, do you do like the muddle?
- 28:18Speaker 1: You know when we've seen the four guys you know,
- 28:20Speaker 1: all walking around and all of a sudden, the snap
- 28:22Speaker 1: and everybody goes m So you know, the question is
- 28:25Speaker 1: like can you get away with smaller guys who are
- 28:31Speaker 1: really fast, you know, and because they've got that two
- 28:35Speaker 1: or three yard cushion, they can get around that bigger
- 28:38Speaker 1: guy trying to block them and make the play, you know,
- 28:41Speaker 1: and minimize the run after one or two yards. You know.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I don't know, but you need like special players out
- 28:48Speaker 1: there to do that. I mean, I would say if
- 28:50Speaker 1: you're like exceptionally fast, that's why the devon Whites of
- 28:52Speaker 1: the world get because they aren't exceptionally fast. I don't
- 28:55Speaker 1: think that. I don't think the Patriots have those kinds
- 28:58Speaker 1: of traits, right, I don't think they're exceptionally fast. Yeah.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Now it really worries me against the run, and we've
- 29:05Speaker 1: talked about the struggles. But I think another piece of
- 29:07Speaker 1: it too, and the other kind of popular buzz thing
- 29:09Speaker 1: right now is that the Patriots are going to go
- 29:11Speaker 1: to more zone defense next year. Oh okay, go ahead,
- 29:14Speaker 1: finish your thought I have. My thought is just that
- 29:17Speaker 1: if you're gonna do that, you need guys that can
- 29:19Speaker 1: get after the passer, because guy, they're too good, they're
- 29:22Speaker 1: too smart. They're gonna find the holes if you don't
- 29:23Speaker 1: get there quick enough. So, you know, so, on one hand,
- 29:27Speaker 1: we're talking about we're gonna play this positionless defense. Do
- 29:29Speaker 1: you have anybody that you feel great about of that
- 29:31Speaker 1: crew getting after the quarterback other than maybe bar More
- 29:34Speaker 1: and early season Jude On. So I just I just
- 29:37Speaker 1: look at what happened. And it was on last night
- 29:39Speaker 1: the Bill's Patriots playoff game, and I was as flipped it.
- 29:42Speaker 1: I flipped it on and I was like, oh my god,
- 29:44Speaker 1: it is even worse than I remember it. We just
- 29:46Speaker 1: you know, and it's just what jumped out to me too.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Not to get into this, sorry everybody that's listening to
- 29:50Speaker 1: relive that horrible game, but just the energy that Buffalo
- 29:54Speaker 1: was playing, well, it was clear we were done. It
- 29:56Speaker 1: was clear, and the Patriots were kind of looking around
- 29:59Speaker 1: at each other like what the hell is happening right now?
- 30:01Speaker 1: You know. So it's it's troubling, and you know, on
- 30:04Speaker 1: one hand, I love thinking about Josh Allen and the
- 30:06Speaker 1: Bills and what a challenge that is and how would
- 30:10Speaker 1: you go about defending that? And so I'm starting to
- 30:12Speaker 1: see these things and I'm like, Okay, so what if
- 30:15Speaker 1: Bill has said that, what if you know, we talk
- 30:17Speaker 1: about philosophy and how you know, maybe he uh, you know,
- 30:21Speaker 1: what's he thinking? The trends are what if he's saying,
- 30:24Speaker 1: you know what, this league is now so slanted toward offense.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Defense is about stopping them in the red zone. You're
- 30:32Speaker 1: not going to consistently stop teams in the middle of
- 30:35Speaker 1: the field, but once you get into the red zone,
- 30:37Speaker 1: if you have the right players, you can minimize points.
- 30:41Speaker 1: You know, particularly against the good teams like Buffalo, like
- 30:45Speaker 1: reason like build your defense to stop teams when the
- 30:50Speaker 1: field is short, and don't worry, just avoid big plays
- 30:54Speaker 1: and stop him on short fields. That's them. I think
- 30:57Speaker 1: that's always been there, but they haven't been good at that.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I mean lately lately they you know, they have history
- 31:02Speaker 1: that lately they haven't been good at that. So wouldn't
- 31:05Speaker 1: you think you would need bigger bodies, right, I don't know.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe because of these quarterbacks who are
- 31:11Speaker 1: smarter and can move around. Maybe he believes when the
- 31:14Speaker 1: field short, you got it's all about limiting that quarterback's options.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I still think you don't need both types of players, though,
- 31:21Speaker 1: because I'm all for getting faster, more athletic. Yeah, I'm
- 31:25Speaker 1: still waiting. But what but they they I mean, they
- 31:28Speaker 1: just signed one guy who has a more athletic profile
- 31:32Speaker 1: in peppers. That doesn't make your defense fast. Yeah, I
- 31:34Speaker 1: don't know one guy, but what if he's saying the
- 31:36Speaker 1: name of the game of defense in the NFL these
- 31:39Speaker 1: days is stopping teams in the red zone. Once they
- 31:41Speaker 1: get there, you stop. Okay, But I think it's always
- 31:43Speaker 1: been that. Yeah, I do too. I think that's and
- 31:46Speaker 1: I think that it's it's driven Patriot fans nuts for
- 31:49Speaker 1: two decades. You know. I think that was such a
- 31:52Speaker 1: and I think it's kind of got attached to Patricia
- 31:54Speaker 1: a little bit. I think he was maybe the one
- 31:56Speaker 1: that when that was happening, it seemed like that that
- 31:59Speaker 1: that that's what he likes to do. It seems like
- 32:01Speaker 1: he likes to play the odds. And you'll force you
- 32:03Speaker 1: to continuously execute down the field, and when the field
- 32:06Speaker 1: gets tighter, it gets harder, and you know, by that point,
- 32:09Speaker 1: you run eight, nine, ten plays and maybe what do
- 32:13Speaker 1: you have left in the bag. Maybe your guys are
- 32:14Speaker 1: a little tired. You know, that's what they kind of
- 32:16Speaker 1: prey on. But I don't know. I mean, it's like risky.
- 32:19Speaker 1: On one hand, I understand, like, okay, you've got some
- 32:21Speaker 1: more athletes on the field. Maybe you got a few
- 32:23Speaker 1: more strong safeties. But at the same time, I still
- 32:25Speaker 1: believe that well, maybe the whole thing run. You know,
- 32:27Speaker 1: we were smaller and faster in the middle of the field.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Once we get into that red zone, we bring in
- 32:32Speaker 1: the bigger guys to limit the run, and you know,
- 32:36Speaker 1: it's just a different defense once we get into the
- 32:38Speaker 1: red zone. I don't know, I don't know, but you
- 32:40Speaker 1: know it's I mean, I think too that the draft
- 32:44Speaker 1: based on you know, they haven't really done much in
- 32:46Speaker 1: free agency, so you know, the draft critical importance, and
- 32:49Speaker 1: I mean, I think it'll signal something. Are they focused
- 32:52Speaker 1: on cornerbacks, wide receivers, they focused on linebackers, defensive ends,
- 32:56Speaker 1: you know, tackles. Are they focused on the line of scrimmage?
- 32:59Speaker 1: Are they focused off and now everyone's on the Michigan safety.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, as let's get another one. Let's get let's
- 33:05Speaker 1: let's say this is he is fast, No, and I know,
- 33:08Speaker 1: and I'm sure he's a really good player. Alright, then
- 33:11Speaker 1: with them are good, But can we get a guy
- 33:13Speaker 1: that's two hundred and thirty two hundred forty pounds that
- 33:15Speaker 1: runs because I know twere thirty five pounds, Like I
- 33:18Speaker 1: don't think they have to be two ten like, because
- 33:21Speaker 1: I just they've had a hard time stopping the run
- 33:24Speaker 1: in general the last several years, and I think this
- 33:27Speaker 1: is a recipe for that to continue. Now, you could
- 33:31Speaker 1: argue and say, my old thing. You know, well, if
- 33:33Speaker 1: the other team's running the ball a lot, it keeps
- 33:36Speaker 1: the score down because it takes longer to score that way, right,
- 33:39Speaker 1: I don't know, Yeah, I just know they're coming off
- 33:42Speaker 1: of a historically bad defensive performance, a handful of defensive performances,
- 33:48Speaker 1: and if this is the you know, what is the shift.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I think that that's for me, is what is most interesting.
- 33:53Speaker 1: And I think when I see some of these things,
- 33:55Speaker 1: it's just like we're just gonna kind of say this
- 33:57Speaker 1: nebulous thing. If it's a positionless defense, like, it doesn't
- 34:00Speaker 1: make me feel better. Doesn't make positionless defense positionless coaches,
- 34:04Speaker 1: it's no one's going to have a position or position.
- 34:07Speaker 1: It's buzzwords and no titles, no positions, no nothing. They
- 34:10Speaker 1: are And I hate to fall back on this, but
- 34:13Speaker 1: there are things that happened that people confused about. They
- 34:16Speaker 1: spend a little time thinking about it, and they talk
- 34:19Speaker 1: themselves into it. It's the same thing with the coaches.
- 34:22Speaker 1: You're absolutely right, like, we're not gonna have coordinators, no coordinators.
- 34:26Speaker 1: You know, it's a show about nothing, nothing, nothing, We're
- 34:29Speaker 1: not gonna have brilliant I get it, it's brilliant. Wait
- 34:33Speaker 1: wait what wait what what? What? What is the brilliant part? No,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I'm with Robert. I have my questions too, but I
- 34:39Speaker 1: give the guy latitude based on twenty five years of
- 34:42Speaker 1: dominance and I'm and I'm there too, but like, don't
- 34:45Speaker 1: ask me not to question it. Well, and on your
- 34:47Speaker 1: show yesterday they were talking about just that the you
- 34:51Speaker 1: know who's the offensive coordinator and your guy, Felger said,
- 34:54Speaker 1: we'll know when we see the guy with the card
- 34:56Speaker 1: calling plays. What if it's Bill calling plays and he
- 35:00Speaker 1: he doesn't need a card because it's all up here
- 35:03Speaker 1: up in his head. I mean I could literally see
- 35:05Speaker 1: that we're pulling. He knows he doesn't even need a card.
- 35:08Speaker 1: He's got those those Google glasses us. Right, Well, I
- 35:13Speaker 1: bet it's Joe Judge. I bet, I mean, I don't
- 35:15Speaker 1: know if he's the coordinator. I bet he called I'll
- 35:16Speaker 1: bet you it's Nick Kayley. But anyway, what if it's
- 35:19Speaker 1: Bill and he doesn't need a card, you know, and
- 35:23Speaker 1: then we're like, who's calling the plays? We don't know?
- 35:25Speaker 1: What if it's like what if it's like we heard
- 35:27Speaker 1: about the defense, where one guy is formulating the game
- 35:30Speaker 1: plan the other guy is calling it, right, so you've
- 35:32Speaker 1: got you know, maybe Judge is formulating the offer. Who's
- 35:35Speaker 1: the architect and who's the execute What if he's sitting
- 35:38Speaker 1: up in the up in the booth and you can't
- 35:39Speaker 1: even see who it is. You don't even know. They're
- 35:41Speaker 1: just max talking to somebody looking around in space, like right.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I mean there are some teams who do call it
- 35:47Speaker 1: from the booth. Yeah, so well, you know, I don't
- 35:50Speaker 1: know if you're not, I mean you'll you'll probably know
- 35:53Speaker 1: who's calling the actual plays. But I think Bill has
- 35:57Speaker 1: kind of always been involved in formulating the game plan.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Back to the football lights that we've seen, you know,
- 36:04Speaker 1: when Brady goes in and talks to him, he goes,
- 36:05Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna go let billyon know, right, Billy
- 36:08Speaker 1: O'Brien at the time was the offensive coordinatory He wasn't
- 36:10Speaker 1: even there. Yeah, yeah, because they're deciding what they're gonna
- 36:13Speaker 1: do that week, and Bruce arians wasn't around to put Yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 1: I think it just feeds in Fred, like for you said,
- 36:19Speaker 1: it's just such a gonna be such an interesting season
- 36:21Speaker 1: and you know, the Patriots of their own thing, but
- 36:23Speaker 1: it's such an interesting season. And I mean, I know
- 36:26Speaker 1: I get crapped for being a belicheck honk, but I
- 36:29Speaker 1: love this. I love his back against the wall. Show me,
- 36:31Speaker 1: show me it that. I'm not saying that he's gonna
- 36:33Speaker 1: be able to do it. I just want to see
- 36:35Speaker 1: this challenge. And you know, and like Robert said, he's
- 36:38Speaker 1: doing it his own way. Fine, but there's no guarantee
- 36:41Speaker 1: that he's going to figure it out. But he's sure
- 36:42Speaker 1: doing it his own way, and he's got to have
- 36:43Speaker 1: a plan. I can't imagine he ended that season thinking like,
- 36:45Speaker 1: I don't know, we'll get a couple of guys. I mean,
- 36:48Speaker 1: and you know, maybe it was the lighting at the Breakers,
- 36:50Speaker 1: but he shoul didn't look like a guy that was
- 36:52Speaker 1: stressed out and worried, looked like I mean, I think
- 36:55Speaker 1: he might have tinted his hair. And I don't think
- 36:57Speaker 1: he spends much time being stressed out and worried. You know,
- 36:59Speaker 1: we always think he has all the answers. You know
- 37:01Speaker 1: why he looked like a real fit, seventy year old man, Like,
- 37:05Speaker 1: you know, I love that, But well, I like, I
- 37:08Speaker 1: I'm being dead serious. I'm not even being snarky. Like
- 37:11Speaker 1: he thinks he has all the answers. Why would he
- 37:13Speaker 1: spend time stressing, That's what I'm saying. He's you know,
- 37:16Speaker 1: this isn't any different than I think he went into
- 37:19Speaker 1: the playoff game thinking he had all the answers to
- 37:21Speaker 1: stop Josh Allen. I don't know about that. Oh I
- 37:23Speaker 1: think he did. Then after all, it's just you know, execution, Yeah,
- 37:26Speaker 1: had the game plan, just not executing. They gotta stop
- 37:29Speaker 1: putting that game on TV because you're gonna stop watching.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I'm like a moth to the flame. I'm like, let's
- 37:33Speaker 1: just put how bad really was it? Oh? It was?
- 37:36Speaker 1: It was real bad and it was really forgotten. Yeah,
- 37:38Speaker 1: it was bad, all right? Eight five times five five
- 37:41Speaker 1: past five hundred is the a sticket hutline web radio
- 37:44Speaker 1: stop the Patriots dot com is the email address? Uh,
- 37:47Speaker 1: let's get to the listeners see what they have to say.
- 37:51Speaker 1: We'll start with Patty and Agawam. What's up, Patty, what's
- 37:55Speaker 1: going on today? Guys. Hey, Patty, So yeah, just wanted
- 38:00Speaker 1: to say I'm not a big fan of the uh
- 38:02Speaker 1: the term position was football either. You know, I would
- 38:04Speaker 1: like guys to have their their sort of step positions.
- 38:07Speaker 1: You know, I don't want my left corner playing playing um,
- 38:12Speaker 1: you know, free safety. But that gets into me. It's
- 38:16Speaker 1: more about line guy that I don't mind if the
- 38:18Speaker 1: corners like the defensive backs of defensive backs. It's when
- 38:21Speaker 1: the defensive backs of linebackers that worries, like the defensive tackles,
- 38:24Speaker 1: like Twitter, what are you doing? They'll never never expect it.
- 38:31Speaker 1: We're gonna reverse it. All the D D backs are
- 38:34Speaker 1: going to play upfront and the D line and play
- 38:35Speaker 1: him back. Hey, checkers, you get Christian Barmore matched up
- 38:38Speaker 1: on Stefan Diggs. Yeah, good luck. Right, it's a size mismatch.
- 38:44Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you guys, Um, do you guys
- 38:46Speaker 1: think that Um They'll try to at least at least
- 38:50Speaker 1: a little bit try and work um Pyle dugger into
- 38:53Speaker 1: uh free safety this year, just to see, like how
- 38:56Speaker 1: he does. I mean, obviously Devin's going to get the
- 38:58Speaker 1: majority of the snaps, but yeah, just going forward, I mean,
- 39:02Speaker 1: if they really don't have a kind of a replacement
- 39:05Speaker 1: or Devin if if this is going to be his
- 39:07Speaker 1: last year, or do you see more like do you
- 39:09Speaker 1: think they wait until the draft next year or just
- 39:12Speaker 1: see if someone like Mills or Dugger can do the job.
- 39:15Speaker 1: He's a good question. Um, I think Dugger. I wish
- 39:18Speaker 1: I had PFF. One thing I do really like PF
- 39:20Speaker 1: for is they tell you exactly where everybody played. Um,
- 39:22Speaker 1: I think he did play a little bit more free safety.
- 39:24Speaker 1: But what I another part of this too, and I'm
- 39:26Speaker 1: interested in, is you know the the Brandon Stalia all
- 39:29Speaker 1: the cover two. You know, Cover two is the big
- 39:31Speaker 1: hot new thing, and the Patriots traditionally we'll cover one
- 39:34Speaker 1: and with you know mccordy and man coverage, and so
- 39:37Speaker 1: maybe it's not just zone, but maybe you're you're playing
- 39:39Speaker 1: a couple more guys back. I think it's a something
- 39:41Speaker 1: to watch. I could see it. I could see it,
- 39:43Speaker 1: especially with if you got another strong safety. Well, and
- 39:45Speaker 1: that's why there's a lot of talk. That's another reason
- 39:47Speaker 1: why there's a lot of talk about the kid from Michigan,
- 39:49Speaker 1: DA's Hill Hill, Um, because he is he profiles a
- 39:54Speaker 1: lot like mccordy. You know, four down guy, versatility in
- 39:58Speaker 1: the back and play outside, can play safe. That was
- 40:01Speaker 1: what mccordy was coming out. Yep, yeah, all right, thanks Patty.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Let's go to Eldred, North Carolina. What's up, Eldred? Hey,
- 40:09Speaker 1: So that's how y'all doing today? Okay, doing pretty good?
- 40:13Speaker 1: Doing pretty good? Okay. I got a question one of
- 40:17Speaker 1: the guy who a couple of the guys who was
- 40:18Speaker 1: talking about it last night when we heard mister Kraft
- 40:22Speaker 1: he liked to win more than one he led to
- 40:24Speaker 1: win a playoff games than three years and the best
- 40:27Speaker 1: way to build through the draft. Do you think he's
- 40:30Speaker 1: drafted in an underhand message or you think he would
- 40:32Speaker 1: just being frank. I think he's both. I think he's
- 40:36Speaker 1: being frank, and I think it is a message. You know,
- 40:39Speaker 1: it's a message to Bill, it's a message to the
- 40:41Speaker 1: fan base that you know, he's not happy unless we're winning. Yeah. Yeah,
- 40:48Speaker 1: that's that's the way we brought it up too. I
- 40:50Speaker 1: brought up like that, think like that, and I'm said,
- 40:53Speaker 1: I think he's getting like anybody else. You just give
- 40:54Speaker 1: him first some of the moves or whatever, you know.
- 40:58Speaker 1: But it's just like you said, Duce especially in build
- 41:02Speaker 1: you trust. I got flight trust in a really zero
- 41:05Speaker 1: in the gym part. But I know you hey, hey, hey,
- 41:11Speaker 1: uh well, let me let me let me stop you there.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Let me stop you there, because because I don't like,
- 41:15Speaker 1: I'm not like telling you like it's gonna work out,
- 41:17Speaker 1: it's gonna be fine. I'm just interested to see an
- 41:20Speaker 1: excellent head coach kind of with his back against the wall.
- 41:23Speaker 1: That's interesting to me, and I think that that in
- 41:25Speaker 1: terms of sports, is a fascinating kind of you know,
- 41:28Speaker 1: last period of his career. But I'm not gonna tell you, oh,
- 41:30Speaker 1: it's gonna all be fine. We're gonna be great. And like,
- 41:32Speaker 1: I'm just more interested in seeing how he does this
- 41:35Speaker 1: because I know he cares, and I do believe that
- 41:37Speaker 1: he really wants to win football games and get back
- 41:40Speaker 1: in the hunt. But you know, he's gonna go about
- 41:42Speaker 1: as his own way. Will it work. I'm not going
- 41:43Speaker 1: to tell you that it definitely will, but I'm very
- 41:45Speaker 1: interested to watch how he does it and how he
- 41:47Speaker 1: tries to do it. Yeah, I understand that too. I'm
- 41:50Speaker 1: like you in a way, Douce, but I'm like, I
- 41:53Speaker 1: just can't see them thirty yeards back there. With slow
- 41:55Speaker 1: corners or anybody getting speed inside out whatever. Even this
- 42:00Speaker 1: Polter j did that. Every every coach that left Bill
- 42:04Speaker 1: got somebody in the outside and the inside. And then
- 42:06Speaker 1: they also got a critic good guys on rugh to
- 42:08Speaker 1: deep defense or whatever, and then they gave us hey
- 42:10Speaker 1: when they played it. You know. Yeah, So I'm just
- 42:13Speaker 1: I'm just thinking, Okay, if they following bill philosophy, why
- 42:18Speaker 1: they jump outside the box. I'm like, Bill, gotta go
- 42:20Speaker 1: outside of the box. Sometimes this is not nineteen ninety
- 42:23Speaker 1: no more. It's involved a little bit more. Yeah, you know,
- 42:26Speaker 1: I understand, Like, I still understand where you're coming from.
- 42:29Speaker 1: I appreciate him as loving loving the defense, the coach.
- 42:32Speaker 1: I followed him the war with a coach, But the
- 42:34Speaker 1: gym moved is what I decoratet is what I'm different there.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I just don't see it. I think it's a good point.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I mean, you know, Brian Flores, whatever his final was
- 42:44Speaker 1: against the Patriots, I mean, you know, clearly he had
- 42:47Speaker 1: a beat on what they were doing. I mean every
- 42:49Speaker 1: single time they were you know, able to know what
- 42:52Speaker 1: to expect and execute under you know, in the final
- 42:55Speaker 1: moments that that was you know, part of this year's losses,
- 42:58Speaker 1: not the second one. That one wasn't really close. But
- 43:01Speaker 1: what is it? I know, And how's Josh gonna do
- 43:03Speaker 1: against them? You know, what is Josh gonna do? I
- 43:04Speaker 1: think those are some of the most interesting games when
- 43:06Speaker 1: you see these former guys who know everything inside and
- 43:09Speaker 1: out and you know what the problems are going to be,
- 43:11Speaker 1: and they turn the screws on him, and you know,
- 43:13Speaker 1: I think that how are they going to counter that?
- 43:15Speaker 1: Because he's got to know what's coming. If Josh does win,
- 43:17Speaker 1: stay away from the buses. That's all I heard, uh
- 43:21Speaker 1: your boys on on my station this morning talking about
- 43:24Speaker 1: that game. Oh yeah, yeah, because it was funny. Who
- 43:27Speaker 1: are my boys? Okay? On your shows? I like to
- 43:32Speaker 1: listen to the gambling guys. Yeah, the bankroll boys, right,
- 43:36Speaker 1: you know? Yeah, Joe Murray and Sharps Joe Murray. I
- 43:40Speaker 1: wouldn't call them the sharks. What do they know? And
- 43:44Speaker 1: I always say, like, I really like Dan lift Doun.
- 43:47Speaker 1: He's clearly a guy who bets with his heart. He
- 43:50Speaker 1: always bets like the Patriots, like no matter what. Yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 1: And one of the things was the over under Joe
- 43:56Speaker 1: Murray is thinking about putting the putting uh a bet
- 44:00Speaker 1: on the under for the Patriots eight and a half wins,
- 44:03Speaker 1: and lift Shots just like explodes. There's no way. And
- 44:07Speaker 1: one of his reasoning is it, you know, like they
- 44:10Speaker 1: win a requisite amount of game just because the other
- 44:12Speaker 1: team's coach is stupid, Like they'll beat Vegas next year
- 44:14Speaker 1: because Josh mcdanals is stupid. Really, I'm really right, and
- 44:18Speaker 1: I'm thinking to myself, this is the guy who's been
- 44:21Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator. Now, if Dan lift Shats was out
- 44:24Speaker 1: there ripping Josh McDaniels for the last ten years, then
- 44:28Speaker 1: I'll get full full props to Dan lift Shots. I
- 44:30Speaker 1: haven't heard that he's gone now, and he's stupid, right,
- 44:33Speaker 1: And that's where it comes down to. He doesn't like
- 44:35Speaker 1: him anymore because he's not here anymore. And then I
- 44:37Speaker 1: gotta get richer. How did it go the last time
- 44:41Speaker 1: they went on the road to play Josh McDaniels against
- 44:43Speaker 1: Bill Belich, And they're also, oh, that was the high
- 44:47Speaker 1: five game and they were all they all went all fled.
- 44:49Speaker 1: It was so funny, brown yellow stripe like the brown
- 44:57Speaker 1: vertical stripes on the socks. Yeah, I see too. Look
- 45:00Speaker 1: hearing Belichick in the O nine coaching thing being like
- 45:03Speaker 1: fumble the snap twice twice like that particularly was like,
- 45:10Speaker 1: you know, I don't remember that at all. It was
- 45:13Speaker 1: Kyle Love what was his name was the quarterback, right,
- 45:15Speaker 1: Kyle Orton. Yeah, I don't remember the fumbling the snap thing.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I could be I could be mistaken. That's for some
- 45:23Speaker 1: reason that's sticking in my head. But I think I'm right.
- 45:25Speaker 1: There is Denver set up there the game winning Yeah,
- 45:29Speaker 1: Like Patriots had a chance I think to tie it
- 45:31Speaker 1: or take the lead, and they they like fumbled it twice.
- 45:34Speaker 1: I think they recovered the first one they fumbled, and
- 45:36Speaker 1: they fumbled again. They lost it and Denver was abled.
- 45:38Speaker 1: I think when I remember something, they do. I remember
- 45:41Speaker 1: Dever took over in Patriot's territory in overtime and didn't score.
- 45:45Speaker 1: They didn't even get a field goal. Um, I remember
- 45:48Speaker 1: Will Fork made an unbelievable play on the screen, made
- 45:53Speaker 1: the tackle on the sideline. Yeah, it's just an unbelievable
- 45:56Speaker 1: play for the guy that size to blow up a screen.
- 45:59Speaker 1: It was just an amaz Were you there for that game? Yeah?
- 46:02Speaker 1: Is it is it harder to remember games? I find
- 46:04Speaker 1: it harder to remember games now that I've been here
- 46:07Speaker 1: than watching on TV, because TV they talk about it,
- 46:10Speaker 1: they replay it when you're watching it here. It absolutely
- 46:13Speaker 1: remember more off TV than they do live for that reason.
- 46:16Speaker 1: But I remember being there because that was the the
- 46:20Speaker 1: origin of Freddy's absolute exploding he was. Fred was upset
- 46:24Speaker 1: after that game, because I can remember him in any
- 46:26Speaker 1: non playoff loss I had that. He was so mad
- 46:29Speaker 1: that Josh McDaniels was in our area, you know, with
- 46:32Speaker 1: the busy hugging everybody. You know what it's like to
- 46:36Speaker 1: lose in the NFL. You know, these guys aren't into
- 46:39Speaker 1: like hugging you. You know, they just saw you like
- 46:42Speaker 1: four months ago. It's not like you've been gone for years.
- 46:45Speaker 1: You know, right open that you know what it's like
- 46:48Speaker 1: to lose, and so they don't want to see you
- 46:50Speaker 1: and hug you and all that crap. You know, do
- 46:53Speaker 1: that before the game in the field afterwards, you know,
- 46:57Speaker 1: so mad. It was just poor me. Um all right.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Web Radio at Patriots dot com as the email address,
- 47:04Speaker 1: George says he's from Uvall, Texas, big Patriots fan and
- 47:10Speaker 1: a new fan of Patriots Unfiltered. I don't miss a
- 47:12Speaker 1: single podcast because I like how you guys keep the
- 47:16Speaker 1: fans in form. I started watching this YouTube video and
- 47:19Speaker 1: I'd like for you to watch the first five minutes.
- 47:21Speaker 1: I don't. I didn't see it. It was interesting to
- 47:24Speaker 1: hear Bill talk about how he surrounds a new quarterback
- 47:27Speaker 1: slash replacement with veterans and get the ball to the playmakers.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I immediately thought of the question that comes up is
- 47:35Speaker 1: why does Bill continue to sign veteran players instead of
- 47:38Speaker 1: taking a chance with a practice squad player. I like
- 47:41Speaker 1: what Bill is doing right now getting younger slash faster players.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Seeing this video made me feel like, this is happening now.
- 47:48Speaker 1: What are your thoughts? I don't I didn't see. What
- 47:50Speaker 1: are the young it's from Super Bowl thirty six? What
- 47:53Speaker 1: are the young fast players that we've gotten? Who are
- 47:56Speaker 1: the younger faster guys? I don't. Mack Wilson, I don't know.
- 48:02Speaker 1: I don't know. Pepper's coming off in a CLP. Peppers
- 48:07Speaker 1: might be in that category, but that's one Mac Wilson
- 48:11Speaker 1: certainly isn't. Time Montgomery. Is he fast? He's not. He's
- 48:15Speaker 1: not young nor fast? Ronce Terrence Mitchell nor is he
- 48:19Speaker 1: on defense? Again? Not young? Like? Who are the young
- 48:23Speaker 1: fast guys, they've got Terrence Mitchell that I say him Torons,
- 48:27Speaker 1: Yeah you did, said to depend pronounced twice. If if
- 48:32Speaker 1: the young linebackers that we already have all of a
- 48:35Speaker 1: sudden start playing, are they faster than what we got
- 48:37Speaker 1: rid of? Yeah? Maybe? Oh yeah, yeah. I mean I
- 48:40Speaker 1: think Josh uch is faster than Dante high Tower. I
- 48:43Speaker 1: don't think anybody would argue, and is you know, Ronnie
- 48:45Speaker 1: Perkins faster than Kyle Van Nois you know he looks
- 48:48Speaker 1: at on tape. Honestly, I'm I'm flashing back to Chubby
- 48:51Speaker 1: Douce and his speech shoes in the background in the backyard,
- 48:54Speaker 1: and I'm gonna get faster for next year, I'm gonna
- 48:56Speaker 1: be faster fast. I'm just gonna get faster. Or they
- 48:58Speaker 1: wearing these speech shoes that are like you know, they
- 49:00Speaker 1: the platform on the front of your feet. Member of
- 49:01Speaker 1: those things they don't work. They don't work. Everybody don't
- 49:04Speaker 1: buy christ and Virginia rights. And I've always been a Bill.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I've always been Bill, and we trust guy. Sorry, Paul,
- 49:11Speaker 1: but ever since Brady left, he's been in the spotlight
- 49:14Speaker 1: this offseason so far has maybe question his abilities, but honestly,
- 49:18Speaker 1: I'm starting to not be that worried. I think they can.
- 49:21Speaker 1: I think if they can draft a corner in the
- 49:23Speaker 1: first round and a wide receiver in the second, I
- 49:25Speaker 1: think this team has a chance to sniff the playoffs.
- 49:28Speaker 1: They have to mail both nail both those picks. It's
- 49:31Speaker 1: just like golf. All you have to do is hit
- 49:33Speaker 1: the ball straight. My only concern is the coaching staff.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I understand Judge and Mattie pe might be good coaches,
- 49:39Speaker 1: and I think they are, but I don't know if
- 49:41Speaker 1: they are good offensive coaches. And with matt being in
- 49:45Speaker 1: his second year, I have concerns too too. I mean,
- 49:50Speaker 1: I generally think, especially the way the league is now
- 49:54Speaker 1: where you don't have to have been a player or
- 49:56Speaker 1: played a position in order to coach it and to
- 49:59Speaker 1: coach it well, that a guy can go from one
- 50:02Speaker 1: side of the ball to the other. I mean it
- 50:03Speaker 1: happens with lower level assistance all the time. Where they
- 50:06Speaker 1: start one place, they moved to the other, you know,
- 50:08Speaker 1: or even go on special teams for a little bit.
- 50:10Speaker 1: So I don't think that's as much of a concern
- 50:13Speaker 1: to me. It's just knowing what the guy is supposed
- 50:16Speaker 1: to do that worries me more than the change, Like
- 50:21Speaker 1: if you had just said, you know, this is what
- 50:23Speaker 1: we're gonna do. Who's in charge? I think there's a chance.
- 50:26Speaker 1: And again I'm not the one saying this, but last
- 50:29Speaker 1: year there were definite references to a lack of clarity
- 50:33Speaker 1: at the top of the defensive coaching chart. Yeah, so
- 50:39Speaker 1: I didn't. I'm not in the meetings. I'm not the
- 50:41Speaker 1: one that's wondering about who's in charge. On defense, the
- 50:44Speaker 1: players at times were talking about calls and contradictory information.
- 50:49Speaker 1: So I worry that way on offense too, Like it's
- 50:53Speaker 1: not just about well guys switching sides of the ball,
- 50:56Speaker 1: like I think it's football. To steal Fred's phrase, I
- 51:01Speaker 1: think these guys are football coaches. They've coached at the
- 51:04Speaker 1: highest level. They probably know how to coach wide receivers
- 51:08Speaker 1: in running backs, just like they do defensive linemen and linebackers.
- 51:12Speaker 1: You know. I wonder, you know, like because they say
- 51:14Speaker 1: in sales, if you're a good salesperson, you can sell anything, right,
- 51:17Speaker 1: you know, you'll always have a job you cant So
- 51:19Speaker 1: I wonder, if you're a good football coach, can you
- 51:22Speaker 1: coach any position? I don't know probably you know, yeah,
- 51:25Speaker 1: but I think that there's like coaching technique, you know,
- 51:30Speaker 1: those kind of have to understand individual pieces. Sure, well,
- 51:34Speaker 1: it's like a salesman. You can be you have to
- 51:36Speaker 1: know the products, but if you're a good salesperson, you
- 51:39Speaker 1: can sell it. Yeah, you have to know the position. Finish,
- 51:41Speaker 1: because I like where you're going. I lost my Thingum,
- 51:44Speaker 1: but is this is this someone who is a creative
- 51:48Speaker 1: mind who has been thinking about offensive football and how
- 51:51Speaker 1: to throw new twists at teams. I mean, how many
- 51:54Speaker 1: times over the past twenty years, Patriots or not Patriots,
- 51:57Speaker 1: have you seen some kind of play happen that you
- 51:59Speaker 1: weren't quite wildcat comes to mind, as you know, an
- 52:02Speaker 1: extreme example of you know, taking what you have and
- 52:06Speaker 1: coming up with something new to win a game. And
- 52:09Speaker 1: so I think from that perspective, if Nick Kayley was
- 52:11Speaker 1: calling the plays and you felt like I probably feel
- 52:14Speaker 1: a little more excited. And I don't mean that as
- 52:16Speaker 1: you know a knock on, you know, Joe Judge or
- 52:18Speaker 1: I'm sure that Joe Judge map Patricia can coach the
- 52:21Speaker 1: intricacies of the position, no problem. What I what I
- 52:24Speaker 1: wonder is is how much time have they spent thinking
- 52:28Speaker 1: about how can I evolve the offense? How can I
- 52:30Speaker 1: improve this for Mac Jones and play to his strengths,
- 52:33Speaker 1: And maybe they can, maybe they can execute that. But
- 52:36Speaker 1: I just I think that's the biggest piece of this
- 52:38Speaker 1: is just Mac is the important part. You want him
- 52:41Speaker 1: to develop, You want to build around him to his strengths.
- 52:44Speaker 1: But I think you also need a schematic element that
- 52:48Speaker 1: teams aren't maybe used to or it's something different. You know.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I think when Bill O'Brien took over, you had, you know,
- 52:54Speaker 1: subtle shifts in the kind of offense that they had
- 52:55Speaker 1: been running, you know with Josh. Does that happen now?
- 52:59Speaker 1: Are they able to to tweet things everyone's talking about?
- 53:02Speaker 1: We got to get more out of Nelson Agilor and
- 53:04Speaker 1: John hu Smith. Do those guys have the capability to
- 53:08Speaker 1: do that, to know how to to not only do it,
- 53:10Speaker 1: but to do it in a way that gives defenses problems?
- 53:14Speaker 1: And I know that's another buzz thing of like teams
- 53:16Speaker 1: that are like, oh, it's not hard to prepare for them. So,
- 53:18Speaker 1: you know, do I have much confidence right now that
- 53:22Speaker 1: this is going to evolve into a cutting edge, new
- 53:25Speaker 1: look offense that has kind of new problems I have,
- 53:28Speaker 1: ye Devil's advocate for a second. You know how sometimes
- 53:32Speaker 1: when a player who is either a receiver who has
- 53:36Speaker 1: to be pressed into playing defensive back or vice versa,
- 53:40Speaker 1: the obvious questions to them as well, how does that
- 53:42Speaker 1: help you knowing what the other players supposed to do.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Maybe it's the same for the coach. You know, Patricia's
- 53:48Speaker 1: been a coordinator for so long he's had to analyze
- 53:51Speaker 1: other offenses and see how they are. Like he has
- 53:53Speaker 1: to upright against sixteen offenses every year for several years,
- 53:57Speaker 1: and he's thinking, boy, if I were running that offense,
- 53:59Speaker 1: this is how I would attack us. So this is
- 54:01Speaker 1: so maybe he's thinking that way in in a roundabout way.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Yeah no, And I think you're I think you're totally right.
- 54:07Speaker 1: And and I actually feel like that they that they
- 54:09Speaker 1: know that, that they understand, you know, where how it
- 54:12Speaker 1: needs to go against how certain defenses play and what
- 54:14Speaker 1: they need to do. I just wonder if they have
- 54:18Speaker 1: been had the foresight, you know, and and kind of
- 54:21Speaker 1: just you know, I just think about offensive coordinators over there,
- 54:24Speaker 1: kind of starting with John Gruden, remember when he was like,
- 54:26Speaker 1: you know, an offensive coordinate with the Eagles and you
- 54:28Speaker 1: know the West Coast offense, and I mean it always
- 54:30Speaker 1: happens and right now McVeigh and you know all that
- 54:33Speaker 1: that whole tree under under Kyle Shanahan. It's it's kind
- 54:36Speaker 1: of the rage, but just how can they do it
- 54:40Speaker 1: in a way that's new and exciting? And that's just
- 54:42Speaker 1: what's hard. It is. It's like I'm sure that, like
- 54:43Speaker 1: they know how it's supposed to go. Can they design
- 54:47Speaker 1: it in a way that is like if we really
- 54:49Speaker 1: put them in a pickle in this play, you know,
- 54:51Speaker 1: I know how to be and I can call it
- 54:54Speaker 1: and I know the moment like you know. And that's
- 54:55Speaker 1: another part of it too, is the fluidity of a
- 54:57Speaker 1: football game and and knowing the time break this play
- 55:00Speaker 1: out or you know, like those things I think are
- 55:03Speaker 1: probably right. Josh certainly had an advantage with that. This
- 55:09Speaker 1: is like just this they're doing exactly what they did
- 55:12Speaker 1: in in thirteen when we played you know such and such,
- 55:15Speaker 1: and this is what we did and this is what
- 55:17Speaker 1: we're gonna do. Like they won't have that to fall
- 55:19Speaker 1: back down. And there's always a learning curve, I mean,
- 55:21Speaker 1: and that's you know, when you put a new guy
- 55:22Speaker 1: in that's just and that's why I think, you know,
- 55:24Speaker 1: when Nick Kelee, maybe at least it says, hey, maybe
- 55:26Speaker 1: this guy has been really thinking about it under Josh,
- 55:29Speaker 1: and I would like to see him in the opportunity.
- 55:32Speaker 1: I'm with Fred on that he would be my choice,
- 55:35Speaker 1: and I think Fred's right. I think that Matt Patricia
- 55:39Speaker 1: is more than capable of coaching an offensive. I think
- 55:41Speaker 1: he knows the game. I think that Patricia and Judge
- 55:44Speaker 1: will be able to teach whatever they're asked to teach.
- 55:48Speaker 1: I don't have any real fear of that. Um. What
- 55:51Speaker 1: I don't know is if either of them has the
- 55:55Speaker 1: nuance that it takes to call play sequence, you know,
- 56:00Speaker 1: necessarily right the field. It's not necessarily formulating a game plan,
- 56:03Speaker 1: because again, I think Bill is a big part of that.
- 56:05Speaker 1: So I'm not you know, I think they'll go into
- 56:08Speaker 1: most games with an idea of what will work. But
- 56:10Speaker 1: then when you have to adjust and you know, all
- 56:13Speaker 1: of a sudden, you get something going and you get
- 56:15Speaker 1: a penalty that all of a sudden set you back,
- 56:17Speaker 1: and like, how do you overcome that? What do you do? Like,
- 56:20Speaker 1: I just think when you haven't called plays, it's not
- 56:22Speaker 1: an easy thing to do, So would it make more
- 56:25Speaker 1: sense than to have Patricia called the plays, seeing how
- 56:28Speaker 1: he was a coordinator at least and had to call
- 56:31Speaker 1: defensive plays for me, it's Nick Kayley, but you know,
- 56:33Speaker 1: because he's the one that's been in that offense for
- 56:37Speaker 1: five years. He's been a part of that offense and
- 56:40Speaker 1: the you know, the the ideas that they go into
- 56:42Speaker 1: games with. He has been around. Like, if it was
- 56:46Speaker 1: such an advantage to be a defensive coordinator and then
- 56:48Speaker 1: switch and becoming because you happen more often, someone would
- 56:51Speaker 1: do it, right, Yeah, right, yeah, yeah, it's And I
- 56:53Speaker 1: mean it's like any anybody can walk into the game
- 56:56Speaker 1: with that giant play card with all the plays that
- 56:58Speaker 1: you got, but it's see quincying and setting things up
- 57:01Speaker 1: for later and you know, knowing tendencies the other team,
- 57:04Speaker 1: and they've got a great support staff. And I have
- 57:06Speaker 1: no doubt that Matt Patrician joejas could sit down with
- 57:08Speaker 1: Mac Jones and be like, here's what you did wrong here.
- 57:10Speaker 1: But it's just the whole aspect of attacking a defense
- 57:14Speaker 1: and you know, producing points, especially in like the red zone,
- 57:16Speaker 1: and it's not going to fall apart like you know,
- 57:19Speaker 1: they'll be I mean, they'll be okay, Like I don't
- 57:21Speaker 1: think that you know, it's going to be like wow,
- 57:23Speaker 1: it's so obvious that the people calling plays have never
- 57:26Speaker 1: called plays an NFL. Get like, it's not gonna be
- 57:28Speaker 1: like that. No, not going to be a disaster game.
- 57:30Speaker 1: But I wonder if if the sort of supposed to
- 57:33Speaker 1: call the play before the class you were calling, you're
- 57:35Speaker 1: calling the first down, I'm calling second down. But but
- 57:38Speaker 1: I do I do sort of have a little bit
- 57:41Speaker 1: of a concern that those those rumblings that we sort
- 57:43Speaker 1: of you touched down earlier last year with some defensive
- 57:46Speaker 1: players saying I wasn't sure who to listen to who
- 57:48Speaker 1: was in charge? If now that is happening on the
- 57:51Speaker 1: offensive side too. You know, as you always say, Fred,
- 57:53Speaker 1: you had two guys who were former head coaches. Maybe
- 57:56Speaker 1: they think maybe they don't think they're in charge, or
- 57:58Speaker 1: they act like they're in Chill has to make sure
- 58:00Speaker 1: that doesn't happen. Well, but yeah, maybe things happen. We've
- 58:04Speaker 1: seen conflict exactly. Yeah, everybody starts shooting on each other.
- 58:09Speaker 1: I mean, and I think I think winning has many
- 58:11Speaker 1: fathers losing as an orphan. I think I think Matt
- 58:15Speaker 1: has did take some ownership, you know, more ownership this
- 58:18Speaker 1: year than being the rookie, and that's a big thing.
- 58:20Speaker 1: I'd like a lot on playing there too, though, is
- 58:22Speaker 1: the confidence and so you know, hopefully that carries over
- 58:25Speaker 1: if they're asking him to do different stuff. I just
- 58:28Speaker 1: want to see him come out and not look like
- 58:30Speaker 1: the sophomore who made varsity and it's like I can't
- 58:32Speaker 1: believe him here. You're like, you know, like just there's
- 58:34Speaker 1: elements of that at a time, a little bit of
- 58:36Speaker 1: you know, immaturity, and that's fine, he's a young kid, um.
- 58:38Speaker 1: But I think part of it, it's all part of
- 58:40Speaker 1: it stepping up, taking ownership in the offense, holding guys accountable.
- 58:43Speaker 1: I think he did a pretty good job of that
- 58:45Speaker 1: overall as a rookie. But I think he can make
- 58:47Speaker 1: the strides. Oh well, sure. And he was also going
- 58:50Speaker 1: up against a former NFL MVP. Initially, he was trying
- 58:54Speaker 1: to play the role of, you know, rookie on this team,
- 58:57Speaker 1: just here to learn. Now he doesn't have to worry
- 58:59Speaker 1: about any of everybody knows it's his team. He's coming
- 59:02Speaker 1: off the fun time at the Pro Bowl, you know,
- 59:05Speaker 1: yucking it up and doing this. You know, I think
- 59:07Speaker 1: even his personalities a little bit on Pages dot Com.
- 59:10Speaker 1: He went to the Boys and Girls Club. I mean
- 59:13Speaker 1: that's like, okay, now it's your team. I'm the team.
- 59:16Speaker 1: I'm the team. I'm going to be part of this community.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I'm you know, and I'm gonna branch out a little bit. Yeah,
- 59:22Speaker 1: he can do more of that this year than last year. Yep. Uh,
- 59:26Speaker 1: Speeds and Fresno on the Ace ticket hot line. What's up? Speed?
- 59:30Speaker 1: Winning as many fathers and losing as an orphan. That's
- 59:33Speaker 1: a great one, Fred, I've never heard. Oh, come on,
- 59:35Speaker 1: that's old. It's at least a fifteenth time Fred Juice
- 59:38Speaker 1: on the show first time? Really Yeah, Oh yeah, that's
- 59:41Speaker 1: that's a that's an old one. Ye, not old enough.
- 59:46Speaker 1: I I messed up my call on Toothday, kind of
- 59:48Speaker 1: muddled it. Just uh wanted to try one more time.
- 59:52Speaker 1: It's really bothered you because you've sent an email about it.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Now you're calling this is really weight on you. I
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: have actually I have a poem about it that I'm
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: going to send that. He's like, Billy wants to run
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: it back hard. Um, So yeah, with the running it
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: back thing, I'm you know, I'm theorizing that I still
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: stick with this, that it's part of Bill's kind of
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: master plan to break the Shoeler record. But I was
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: trying to think about like a simpler explanation for it,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: and maybe it's just Bill doing like what he's always
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: truly thoughts best for the team, like involving like stocking
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: up on the veteran middle class. But just like without Brady,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: that just doesn't work. It just doesn't work as well.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Like that's what's happening. It's not. It's not like Bill
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: is prioritizing the record. He's just sticking with the team
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: building strategy that he likes, but maybe just doesn't work
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: as well. I don't care what your strategy is. It
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: doesn't work as well without Tom Brady. I don't care
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: what your strategy is. You know, well, if you, like,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: just if you were seventy years old and you got
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: to win thirty nine games, how would you do it?
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Like that? Like what would you do? Like? I mean,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I just I just think he's doing he always does.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: I think he's a short term focused guy. He tries
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: to you know, That's what one thing I always have
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: really liked about just His philosophy is that, you know,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: that immediate focus on be here now, right now, focus
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: on this moment. And I think that's I don't know.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I think that that's the core of who he is
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: and who he is as a coach. And you know,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: I'm sure he'd love to get that record, but I
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: think the way he thinks to really get there is
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: to focus on today and to do what he can.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: And eventually, I've heard it from too many players to
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: not realize it by now. One of part of his
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: genius is his ability to simplify things. Yep, you know,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Akham's razer, whatever you want to call it. And at
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: the end of the day, it's about winning football games.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: It's about winning games. That's it. That's it. Does the
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: present an obstacle? Does the present an obstacle to the
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: long term success the team that he is not willing
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: to sort of take some risks of tearing it down
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: to the studs and having young developing players maybe good
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: out there and fail and losing three wins every year
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: because of that. I mean, if it wouldn't be potentially
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: better for the team in the long run to have
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: young players growing with Mac instead of trying to sort
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: of build this core is veteran core. I just I
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: just don't think that that, like it's an assured thing
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: that if you were just going to cut all our
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: old guys, we're gonna throw all the young guys in
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: like like that assures that and you know that that
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: guys are going to develop. I mean, now there's cases
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: to be made individually that certain players maybe if they
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: played a little more, might But I think philosophically, there's
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: always a balance that you're looking for, and it's you know,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: it's it's not going to be good for anybody to
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: have a bunch of twenty four year olds exactly out
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: there and running around and not quite know what they're doing,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: and you know then it'll work out. And a quarterback,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: you know, you know, it's a balance, and I think,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: you know, it's perfectly reasonable to debate if the balance
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: is out of whack at times. And I know that
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: he could probably sit in here and tell you exactly
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: what he wants in terms of what veteran presidency needs
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: and you know what positions I mean, and he doesn't
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: know it. That's the beauty and the difficulty about football.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: It's just so many guys and you know what, you can't.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: You can't. It's not they're not robots, they're human beings.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: You know, you can't predict how they're all gonna react
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: season the season, And even a guy like Bill doesn't
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: get it right all the time. You know, we all
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: go back to oh nine when he just couldn't get
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: these guys to play. You know, um, it just it
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: was just wrong. You know, it just wasn't working, you know.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I guess I just think about what Eric has been
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: talking about, not caring as much about the record, wanted
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: to see the team progress, and I feel like there's
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: so much, so much pressure to try and win, win, win, now,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: maximize the number of wins. I'd rather see like the
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: team that's maybe struggling, but developing and showing promise. I
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: want to hear Craft being upset about not winning a
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: playoff game in the last three years. I'm like, Wow,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: everybody wants to just push for the heights right now,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: and I'm wondering what would Maybe it would be better
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: if you took the gas off a little bit and
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: accepted some some lackluster years. If we're gonna have long
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: from growth, I don't know, ye Okay, thanks be. But
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I also think there's random teams, random years where you
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: might not be the best team and you do might
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: squeak into the playoffs and oh my god, won a
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: couple of games and you're in the super Bowl. I
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: mean it's not always. But I don't know. I just
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: think they, like, I don't think they were the best team.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: If they had if they had, if they had improved
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: on their those four years of bad drafts by fifty percent,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: maybe we'd be having a different conversation today. But you
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: can't get around that. Yeah, they had some bad drafts
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: and that set them back. I mean, you know, I
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: think Brady could still be here, you know, right, we
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: could be having a different discussion today if you got
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: the next Edelman, the next Gronk. I mean, really, I
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: just say those two, if you got or even you know,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: say that whatever, the Gronk version of an awesome wide receiver, like,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: if you had gotten two playmakers in that range, I
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: mean I could still see him here because I think
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: they would have been they would have been better. They
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: just didn't have the guys they were going on Edelman
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: with what the money had something to do with it too,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: But I get your point. Yeah, yeah, all right, We're

- 1:17:19Speaker 1: have You don't have a name, cat, I do have
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: a name. And I told I've told you before, and
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: you all like Meg, what is it? No? Mozart? Of course,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: which morningment you did? Which which movement of I hate
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: you all? That's another great moment from great all right.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Eight five five PATS five hundred is the ace ticket
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: hotline web radio at Patriots dot com. It's the email address,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: bunch of stuff on the table, m Patriots overtime rules
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: and all the stuff that's going on in the NFL.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Uh Patrick writes it. Or no, it's Ron and Cambridge.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Another person has sounds like a deceiving email address Ron
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: and Cambridge. I'm in hindsight, would it have been better
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: to let Brady go as the Patriots did, or keep
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: him and let him run the show and recruit other
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: players around the league like Tampa has done. I'm not
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: sure about five years from now, but it looks like
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Tampa is much better off. It's still eye opening that
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: they let him go. You don't let the Tom Brady's
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: of the world play for other teams looking at you, deuce,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: oh well they It wasn't like he went there and
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: they were terrible and they you know, everybody went. I mean,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: he certainly filled out the holes, but he had Mike
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Evans and Chris Godwin to start for some pretty good defenders,
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: and you know they they threw for a bunch of
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: yards the previous season. I mean, here's the thing. If
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Tom we're still here, the offense would look different. And
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: let's let's assume that they acquired the modern day Gronk,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: the modern day Edelman, Welker, whatever, and they gave him
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: what he needed on offense. The defense would have still
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: been what the defense has been in all likelihood right,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: So at best you would have been trying to It
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: would have been like the Philly Patriots Super Bowl in Minnesota.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: You'd have been keeping pace, trying to score outscore or
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: you know, the Chiefs, the Bills, whoever. That's what that's
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: in my mind, that's the best case scenario that would
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: have happened. If Tom were still here, you'd be you know,
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: in shootouts all the time, and maybe you'd still be
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: in the playoffs every year. And maybe that's what you know,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: fans would have wanted to see. But would you have
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: been better off long term? I don't know. That was
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: just such a long way to go in twenty nineteen.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: The roster was just so sparse, I mean, and you
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: had a defense that clearly now is being rebuilt. So
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: that was at the end. Oh, I don't know. It's hard.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: It's hard to see how they could how they could
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: have done it without having the draft pieces in place
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: to at least have a core to fill out. And
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: of course he would have It's like, welcome to the NFL.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: For twenty years we lived outside of it. Yeah, no,
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: and I get that, but just attacking that, you know,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: the particular question, I mean, I don't see any reason
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: why anything would have to be different, Like they could
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: have done what they did and kept Brady. Oh yeah, right,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: they still would have been the only ones they had
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: money in the COVID year. Like, it's not like Brady
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: was getting a Deshaun Watson contracts. That wasn't happening, right,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: So they would have had money to spend and he
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: would have been it was still here. It was just
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: time both sides. Can we can we also say that
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: the Patriots are surprised that he's still playing at a
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: high level. Yes, I think that's what it comes down to. Yeah,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: and I don't really think that that. You know, I
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of you got a question things.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: You have to be objective, you have to I don't
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: really think that's a huge thing that I look back
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: at Bill and say, you dummy, They didn't know he
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: was going to still be MVP atty. How did you
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: not know that? Like, I don't think that's they had
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: a plan. Brady ruined it. No, But I'm not even
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: talking about the Garoppolo thing I am. I'm just talking
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: about after Garoppolo's gone, you know, following the nineteen season,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: they still could have retained him and they didn't. Yeah,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: and I think because they would ask them then if
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: they thought this was possible, they would have said, no,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: it's the odds are against it, right, And I think
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: that that's that was sound. I think that was sounds logic.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: He's defying the he's defying the odds. Yeah, Neil writes
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: in can't listen live. However, I think last night's news
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: makes me feel better about Brady not mentioning the Patriots
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: and Patriots fans because Brady was never really retired. It
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: was all a leverage move to get rid of a
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: lame duck coach. It also is a huge compliment to Bill.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Brady did twenty years with Bill. Couldn't stand arians after two.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: I'm surprised it's Bowls though, seeing they lost to the
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: Rams on that stupid blitz call. Is Sean Payton not
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: allowed to coach due to contract obligations? Well he would
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: have to get creded. Yeah, he's still the right, he
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: was under contract. Um. Yeah, that's an interesting to mean
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: the Raiders, you know, with Bill for twenty Bowls against
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: the the Rams and the playoffs game that allowed Cooper
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Cup to get that. That was a zero cover blitz
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: that Bowls called that allowed the big play from Stafford. Yeah,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I'm getting a lot of blank stairs. No one watched
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: the playoffs either, No, I why do I have to
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: be made out to be like this? I got sidetracked
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: just because they said Brady's in like the front row. Yeah,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: like just like like the villain, like tapping his fingers,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: like you will. You will say what I told you left.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: You will say what I told him to say. That's
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: not how evenhearsed it. Ruth Joakins in Santa Rosa, California.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: What's up, Joaquin? Good morning? Fellas you are you are
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: you guys doing? We're doing great? Nice? Um. I had
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: one question for all you guys. Um, if each of
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: you guys had the option of trading away our first
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: round pick for a player A for what position would
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: it be? And be? Which player in that position? Oh
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: that's a good question. Well, you know, if trade trade
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: away the twenty first pick this year for any player
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: for Tom Brady, I was going to say, Pat Mahomes, Yeah,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I mean, like, are we limited? It can't be the
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: quarterback obviously? Are you limiting us to as I like
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: I want Deebo Samuel. I'm high on you, very high.
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: The best football player in the NFL. About Davante Adams,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: I'll take him to give Mac Jones the number one
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: elite receiver that you've wanted here for a long time.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: I'm trying to put some into this game. I take
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: Ceedee Lamb. You know, man, you don't like him, Okay, No,
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: he taunted us, and I don't like that he was
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: mean to taunting. Uh anybody Deebo Samuel. Yeah, I'm trying
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: to think of like a defender that I might want
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Aaron Donald, don't. I mean, let's you know, shoot for
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: the moon. We get at him, forgot about him? Yeah,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: you know, I know he might retire. Thought he might retire.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: He's probably got ten more years left. But Paul, he's
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: going to come with his wife. I don't care. So
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: it's kind of in any of those players. But you know,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: I think you have to put a cap on it.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: You know, it's the twenty first pick, right, That's that's
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: a good point. What would what? What could it get?
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: Some now realistic trade options for the twenty first pick right,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: probably get a real good corner maybe yeah, maybe I
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: don't know what i'd want though. Yeah, And also I
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: just wanted to make just a couple of comments, Um,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I haven't noticing like this year you guys beginning like
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: like I want to say, like really negative callers and emailers,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: like just like Debbie Downers. But I just want to say,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: you guys keep up the great work, because you guys
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: are like the most realistic of Patriot fans. Like you
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: guys are just really down to earth and you guys
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: see what we as fans do not see. And it's
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: like I just really wanted to tell you guys to
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: just keep it up and like you kid was really
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: great at what you guys do. Appreciate that. All. Let
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: us go to one Patriot Place care of Robert Kraft,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: So you're welcome. Have a great day, you guys. Thanks
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Thanks walking Uh, cj'son Casey, what's up? CJ? Hey, what's up? Guys. Um,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I want to just start off by apologizing for the
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: lateness of this call, because I actually meant to call
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: in after the Tyreek trade went through because I have
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: a personal story to share about that last year. I'm
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: a real Stagian out here in Kin City and I
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: was showing him home, believe it or not, and yeah,
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: thank you, and he ended up buying in Miami last year,
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: and I said it at the time. I was like,
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: I was telling all of the Chiefs fans out here.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: I was like, hey, just so you know, your boys
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: leaving pretty soon. And they were like, no, they're gonna
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: lock him up. They're gonna keep my homes and Kelsey
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: and Tyreek together. They're through until they can't play anymore.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: And and then I was like, well, okay, well I
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: guess we'll see. And then I thought it was really
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: I still think it's surprising that he ended up in Miami,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: which is where he bought a home, but I think
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: he mentioned that it was a year ago. Do you
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: guys ever see that stuff happening where people end up
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: a year in advance, kind of going somewhere and hoping
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: that they end up there. Well, there was that whole
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: hubbub of Brady's house either in Greenwich, Connecticut or New
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: York and remember were for a while. Yeah, uh, annoying.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: Maybe maybe this is connected to that guy that calls
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: in from Florida and sells the furniture too, because maybe
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: he outfitted Tyreek killed. You must have been you must
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: have been bummed though, if you missed out on a
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: commission on Tyreek Kill. That must have been some good
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: money you missed on that one. Yeah, yeah, bit, Yeah,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: it's fine. I do think he said, like during the
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: press conference that like he considered Miami home to him,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: and that someone was like, oh, we're considering the jetsia
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: what nah? Nah? So it did seem like he had
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: had to be sad clown face. Yeah, but who where
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: is he from? Come on, Tyree Hill, I don't know.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Originally Georgia. Thank you from Georgia. Yeah. I think he
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: implied he like considers Miamila because of course when you
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: got there, when you got a bunch of money, where
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: else you gonna call him? Earth? All right? Thanks? Thanks
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: c j Um. How about a game? Who am I?
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: All right? Like that? We know the rules? Game? Neil
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: from Warwick writes in Rhode Island, Warwick, Rhode Island. Yeah,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: I assume no um knows all the California every every everything.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Are we ready? Yes? Okay? I was a draft pick
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: in two thousand and four. Well that's kind of open,
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Sante Samuel. Wrong, Okay, I'm out Paul doesn't want to
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: play anymore. I played at the same college as Trey
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Flowers two thousand and four draft pick, same college as
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: tre Flowers. I cannot answer. Remember out out final, remember
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: final clue. I wasn't a star in any form and
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: ended my career in Denver like Moroney, can't get it?
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Can I guess? Yes? Okay? Arkansas? Right? It was all right?
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: Is the Arkansas? Oh? No, never mind, I don't know.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Never mind, I forgot enlighten ess Go ahead now. Now
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: you guys got Cobs Corn on the cedrac Cobs Oh,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: I don't remember him. I was a runner, remember Samuel
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: may have been an O three draft pick, now that
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I'm thinking about it. I was a running back during
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: our second title run in two thousand and three. Running
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: back second title run in three Mm hmm, you should
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: get the next one easy. I went to Boston College
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: and played with Cloud Cloud is correct, um sticking with?
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: I was a Boston College player who played with Tim
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Matt and Mike Tim hasselback Matt Hassel Dan copen, No,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: you are out. I was a local kid here right
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: down the road. Chris Sullivan. That's a local man that
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: does sound like some does Sully. I was involved in
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: a tuck rule play the same year as the Snow
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: Bowl Okay, so that was what Kansas City. I'm eliminating
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: myself because I can't possibly think of any play that
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: was anything like that. I played under parcels twice and
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: played with Tony Romo. Paul. Should Paul get this one
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: and final clue? I had a short stint here. Huh,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I thought I thought it was bloods for a second
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: give up? Yeah, Vinny Testa Verdi, he was involved in
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: a tuck rule game. No earlier in that the legends
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: when they knew right legend, it was the same call
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: until until what I think is a great job by
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: that documentary, the Tuck Rule documentary, which actually showed the play.
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: Everybody always writes about it happening because Bill said it. Well,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: the call was made. It was like nothing. Even the
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: play was different. Snow snow right, No snow last one
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: I played here into complet like he threw the ball
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: down into the ground. It was not like a fumble
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: in any way. So he threw the ball as he
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: got hit and the ball went down to the ground.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: What did it seem like? That's what an actual tuck
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: should have been. Oh, yes, it wasn't the tuck rule.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: It was any complete passed I don't know what they
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: call it. I don't they never they never showed that.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: But like it was like he got hit and went
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: like this with the ball and it came out of
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: his hand. It was a pass. It wasn't like I'm
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: like this holding onto the ball. I got hit and
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: the ball came out. The two players had nothing in
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: common other than the fact that they both took place
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: on a football field. I played here in two thousand
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: five and two thousand and six, two thousand and five
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: and two thousand and six. When in a time, since
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: I have a commanding lead, I'm gonna go Tim Dwight incorrect.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: He only played one season, I believe you know whatever.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: I reunited with Corey Dillon after playing in Cincinnati and
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: to stop in Carolina and final clue, I wore the
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: same number as Pat Chun did his first tenure with
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: the team, twenty five. I don't know. Three. Mr Hawkins, Wow,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: well that's a good one. Five voice, good good Eric.
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: That was very I forgot that he had played for
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Carolina too, and he Connor was like when Rodney got hurt. No. Six,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: he kind of had to step in. Pat new Hampshire
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: about simple overtime rule. You were talking to the other
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: day about the rules. I have an idea to make
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: it fair for both teams. First team in overtime that
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: has the lead and the ball wins. That's it. That's
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: the rule. Simple. I thought we had a caller, but
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: I think he hung up. So get back to back
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: to the inbox. Back to the inbox. Um yawn with
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: a soft ja. So I said it right from the
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: Czech Republic. Check yourself. You know where you wreck yourself?
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: Been to the Czech Republic? Do you know where the
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Czech Republic is? I've been to the Czech Republic. You've
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: been there. Yes, What were you doing? Czech Republic was
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: on vacation, given out cat food. He's trying to get you.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do it. I'm gonna do You went
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: to check the Slovakia on vacation or did you just
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: travel through it? No, we went to Prague, that was
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: the place, and to Pilsen where the Pilsner beers originated.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: So so that was your destination. Czech the Slovakia, Czech Republic,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: Austria and Budapest also was an area. Yeah. Nice? Nice?
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Was it like a Viking cruise? Or no, now we
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: went over land. We went overland. You get those pamphlet
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: and no, but they're intriguing to me. You want to
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: go pillage kind of what you know? Mad? Have you about? Northman?
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: Are you gonna watch that movie? Northman? Northmandn't even seen
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: it yet. It's about a Viking probably will. Was that
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: a Netflix thing or an actual in theater movie? I'm
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: not sure. You know what I just watched the other
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: day was telling these guys House of Gucci you would oh, yeah,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: I saw it. Yeah, and I think Lady Gaga did
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: get snubbed. She was I didn't even know what that
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: movie fred. Sorry, yeah, Northman. Yeah, the trailer made it
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: look unwatchable. No, it was good. It wasn't okay movie
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: it was good. Yeah, it wasn't. It wasn't great. I
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: didn't know it was Lady Gaga until afterwards, and I'm like, Okay,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: she should get any Academy award because I didn't know,
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: because you didn't know it was her. Yeah, she disappeared exactly.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: She was a chameleon. I don't understand why that's she
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: was such a great actress. I didn't know she did,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: and she did do a good job she broke in
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: the song in the Middle. I know she was very
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: she was very good. Yeah, I thought she was good
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: in um A Stars. I didn't see that movie. Yeah good.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Just thinking of all the performances I've seen, I knew that.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: You know, Michael Cole was out so thought he was read.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: I don't really understand the correlation. I didn't even know
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: it was her. She deserves an award. There are actors
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: like that though, just like man, right, you know, oh yeah,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: you know it's down, but they just take it on
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: and they almost have like a difference. You forget that
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: it's you forget that it's that. Yes, I like when
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: you see totally different characters too, Yeah, the same right,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: not like cookie cutter actors, right, play the same role
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: all the time, right exactly. I mean, and there's a
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: place for that. Two guys that do a specific role
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: really really well, and they're good every time, but it's
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: a similar Roleuce willis God bless him. You know. Tom
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Cruise was like that in the eighties. He played the
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: same character and like five different movies, Top Gun, Cocked,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: Color of Money, you know, Days of Thunder, the same character,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: just a different storyline. Good cut really good at it.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Get to Yon's email. Finally, his idea for over time.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: I've not heard it anywhere yet. For the alternative more fair,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: Oh two roles I got inspired by soccer. They might
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: sound ridiculous, but bear with me. After regular time tie,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: two ten minute periods with alternating kickoffs, one time out
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: per period. If it is still a tie, have equivalent
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: of soccer penalties or ice hockey shootouts. Five series. Okay,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: forget it, you'll lost me. Well, that's like instead of
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: just playing a quarter, you play like a little sorry game.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: And I will have and you have like two kinds.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: I will say this generally when someone calls or rights
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: in and says, I haven't heard anyone say blank. Usually
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: everyone has said it. That's one that I never heard
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: anybody say. Let's just play an entire new game right
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: two to see if maybe the player see if maybe
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: the players keel over and die right there, right there
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: on the sideline. If you really wanted to make it
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: more like a soccer thing, you do, he said, have
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: the two halves, the two kickoffs, right, and then if
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: they're still tied at the end, now you get the
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: kickers out there to kick field goals like instead of
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: like right, uh, you know a shootout. Do you think
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: if they did that? You know how like the kickers,
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: you know field goal kickers they make like, you know,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: eighty five plus percent every guy, like even the bad ones.
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: Do you think if they did a shootout they would
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: put pressure on like three each that they would they
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: would always go like one for three probably probably, Well,
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: they'd have to increase the distance every time, you know,
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: like you start at like thirty five, then you go
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: to forty five and then fifty five with your left foot.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: You have to kick from the the the back line
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: of the end zone, you know when they do those
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: in training camp and they that sharp angle they've been
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: curve him in jacket Inaba says uh, I think sarcastically,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: Trey Nixon is a young, fast player. He is, uh,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: he's young. It's pretty fast. I've seen nothing to indicate
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: that he can play well. Run yeah, run a little
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: bit college. I made that, Paul, I'm just gonna be
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: a good one, um ceremonial. That's true. Another pick a
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: player who could have an immediate impact. Obviously, just pick
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: anyone great player whoever. The first round I'm going to
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: stick with Patrick Mahomes. Yeah, I mean right, not you know,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers, Paul and the colony. I totally agree that
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Bill can't be faulted for assuming Brady was finally going
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: to fall off the Kellerman cliff. But what if Kraft
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: had sided with the fan in himself and decided to
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: insist the Bill that Brady be able to stay as
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: long as he wants under whatever contract he wanted. Do
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: you think Bill would have resigned? Knowing what we know now,
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: do you think the Patriots would be better off going
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: into twenty twenty two season with Brady instead of Bill? Hmm?
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: Probably have resigned. Probably, But again, I don't think it's
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: really like I don't think it's a realistic critique because
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: of just the absurdity of him playing like this at
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: forty five, forty four it August, right, Yeah, I don't
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: know how you could have envisioned that. I mean, he
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: literally played at a MVP level at forty four, right,
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: It's crazy. I don't know how you could have predicted that.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: Roger and Saint Louis, what's your somewhat strange but kind
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: of realistic theory and Patriots slash NFL history? Mine is stolen,
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: but I've talked myself into it. Twenty eight three was
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: the end of the Brady era. Like Fred said, it's
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: set back the Jimmy g succession plan. And this part
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: is a little stretch. Brady didn't like being treated as
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: just another player in meetings by the coach, in the
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: relationship soured. What theories do you have? Because it was more.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: I think it was more than that than being treated
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: like every other player. I think there was something else
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: involved in that, but I think that was part of it.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: Could have been, it was a big part of it.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: He thought he deserves special treatment. You know, it's just
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: general special treatment. General theory is that what we ask for.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: General theory. General had hurt, he would have been the
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: greatest player ever to play NFL football maybe, you know, Yeah,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: he was awesome every time. He looking for something that
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: happened that changed things or I don't really understand what
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: we're look at. Yeah, I don't know. Is it a
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: conspiracy theory kind of thing? Yeah, he's looking forward. I
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: think he's thinking that the end of the dynasty really
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: took place when Brady led that comeback. Yeah, even though
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: they won again right after that. Yeah, because then they
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: couldn't get rid of him, right, I don't know. I
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: think the Butler super Bowl fifty two things is the
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: one that needs to be Yeah, I'm still trying to
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: figure out is he looking for that happened or didn't
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: happen right? And would have changed? Like I'm not really
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: sure exactly, Like, yeah, the bow Jackson and the Malcolm
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: Butler things are how history may have been different headed
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: unfold right differently? Would they still have won the Super
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: Bowl if Brady hadn't gotten suspended because he wasn't. I
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: still say if they had beaten the Eagles in that
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: Super Bowl, he would have retired and then unretired and
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: then unretired. You know, yeah, all the time versus time
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Episode five would have been different, that's for sure, you know.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: I mean I know that that's a common thing. It's
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: just hard to say right now because he like, I mean, now,
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: if you retired at that point, all the football you
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: would have missed out. I mean, I don't know, I
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: just I guess I understand letting the coach extend longer
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: to build the team after the player, you know, like
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: that's part of it too. I think that you know,
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: you could tie your hitch to Brady and get rid
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: of Bill. But then when Brady leaves, you're you're at
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: ground zero. So and maybe there'll be a ground zero again.
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: But I at least understand the theory of I have
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: a all time coach here GM, you know, let him
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: kind of set the stage. That's what I'm saying, Like,
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: I don't think it's a huge like critique, like here's
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: one what they did made sense. It would seem logical
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: that the coach will be coaching at a high level
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: longer than the player will be playing at a high level.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: If Josh McDaniels hadn't turned down the Colts, we wouldn't
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: be worrying about who's the offensive coordinator today because something
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: that didn't happen. I don't think he is. I think
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: he's looking for points in time that we're turning, points
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: that actually happened. I think yeah, I think yeah, Like
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: I don't think he's saying like maybe he is. Maybe
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: he's saying, if Brady didn't lead the twenty eight to
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: three comeback, then the dynasty would have ended, right. I
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: think that's what his point is, right, right, right, Like
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: that ended the dynasty because it would have been easier
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: to make a decision, right, they could have gone to
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: Garoppolo if he didn't lead that comeback. How about if
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: they had just paid Dion branch and oh six, they
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: never would have had Randy Moss and gone sixteen and now.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: So now I think that works, and I think that's
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: what he's looking for. I'm not smart enough to figure it.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: I'll let you guys all fighting Brian from the Bay Area.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: What's more likely after Max's third season, the Patriots pick
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: up his fifth year option, or the Patriots select a
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: quarterback in the first round. Oh man, Yeah, I'll go
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: with that me too. Do you think they'll like reserve
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: the right to change how much? How much is Deshaun
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Watson's contract going to hang over every quarterback negotiation from
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: now on? In terms of guarantee money? I think it's
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: gonna have to Like how can you not? I mean,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: what's the starting point for negotiation? But I mean, if
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: I'm an agent, right, you want to hapen the market
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: deal right, and or you're asking for fully guaranteed everything,
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: like I mean, yeah, the Vikings gave one year thirty
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: five to to what's his name there cousins, But the
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: Deshaun thing was what's again, forty six million a year
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: on average, something ridiculous for the one this year in case. Well,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: but I mean you bring him up, Eric, and I
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: meant to ask you because you were at the owner's meeting.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: I heard there was a lot of scuttle button, a
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: lot of dismay by other teams that the Browns just
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: screwed up the whole market for quarterbacks the other owners. Yeah,
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: by the other owners. But that would hear any of
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: that in the meetings? Yeah? That was? That was Yeah supposed,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: I don't know, we weren't in. We weren't in, But like,
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: did you hear talk about that? Not not really, but
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: doesn't surprise me to hear that, because I mean, god,
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: I'm mighty. I mean thirty forty six million a year
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: and guaranteeing all that money. I mean, we saw the
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: big trades last year with uh, you know, Detroit and
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: la the three draft picks for the quarterback, so that
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: we kind of like we're foreseeing, Okay, Watson's gonna probably
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: get three first round picks as a uh you know,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: as a haul from from the other team. But the
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: contract is what really, like that just seemed way more
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: than I think anybody was expecting. And you're right, I
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: think from now on, like, whoever the next big quarterback is, Like,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: I know, Mahomes signed one hundred million dollar one, so
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: he's not up for a while. But but Burrow. Right,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: if Burrow plays well again and leads them to the
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: playoffs and beat the Browns twice a year, right, a
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: couple more years, right, Like somebody like that is going
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: to be like, hey, hey, ching and you know the
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: brown The Bengals are not known for to spend money.
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: They only think the next next quarterback of the Patriots
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. Yeah, she's saying it. You know, if the
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: other owners have to hope that this completely implodes that
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: they can say they haven't work. Yeah, I think it's
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: a good chance of it. Um. James Pettigrew, the most
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: interesting Patriots fan of the world, writes in who has
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: the better record over the next three years? Bill or Josh?
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: Over the next three years? Yeah? I think Bill, because
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: that AFC West is tough right now. I think Josh.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: I think Josh has a better roster. Yeah, I think, yeah,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: I mean, and I would hope that maybe Josh is
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: a little better in the beginning, and Bill is a
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: little better at the end. Maybe that's what you hope for.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: They can change quick and look, Derek carrs in the
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: last year of his contract, and if they don't forty
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: six million, I know they you know, supposedly they're talking
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: about the extensions, but if they can't extend in there's
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: no guarantee that you're going to get a guy better sure,
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: so that could obviously dramatically impacts Then he gets Mac
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: Jared and Virginia m good for him. The conversation from
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: last show about Max's comments after the Colts game and
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: how the team seemed off is interesting. Paul thought that
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: the new veterans may have been the issue. My concern
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: is that too many guys that we're here with Brady
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: maybe the source of the problem, not all of them,
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: but I'm concerned that some might be just going through
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: the motions because they already won under Brady, or don't
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: see themselves as what they are now, a team that's
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: out of the hunt. I'm worried that we have guys
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: that don't have the drive needed to rebuild but instead
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: are complacent. That's interesting. Um, I think there's a little
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: bit of that maybe, but I don't know how many
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: how many of those guys are really left though. I
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: mean it's it's been a few years now. I mean
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: there's been some significant turnover. I mean you could look
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: at the offensive line. I know, those are a lot
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: of guys that that we're here with Brady and are
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: still around. But you know, I don't know, there's just
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: aren't a lot of those those guys around anymore. So,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: you know, does Devin mccordy going through the motions? Yeah,
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: And a couple of things that you have to keep
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: in mind. And this is something that Fred talks about
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: a lot. Like sometimes these things, you know, we talk
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: all the time and we're always trying to offer our
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: thoughts and opinions and analyzing situations, and these things become fact.
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: Like just because I mentioned that doesn't mean that I'm right,
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: doesn't mean that that's that's what happened. That's a fact,
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: And you know they have problems, But I've just thrown
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: it out there as a possibility, you know, based on
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: some observations, you know, and I think we talked about
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: it on Tuesday with Macum. You're coming out of that
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: Colts game and the talk about the buy and the oddities,
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: sorry for ourselves, right, you know, So I'm not just
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: like throwing it out there, But by no means am
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: I suggesting that it's act. It's one hundred percent fact.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: That's what happens on your show. It happens on all
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: this start really theory, and by the end of the show, right,
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: you know, And then and then two weeks they're building
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: off of that, and then the next the next day
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: someone calls in and they'll reference it and they'll be like,
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: you know, you know when it's like you know, what
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: what what what Belichick said? Yeah? You know, you know
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: Belichick makes twenty five million dollars and it's in this
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: contract that no one can make more than him, that
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: that was a theory one day, that by the end
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: of the show was fact. Yeah. Yeah. They become so
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: entrenched that it just like it becomes a talking point.
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: You don't even really have to expect. The problem is
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: the way it's interpreted. It's not necessarily like That's why
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: I said, like, yeah, I threw it out there, but
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: it doesn't mean it's right, doesn't mean it's a fact, right, right,
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: And I think we follow everything that happens and everything
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: that is said. And you know, you guys have been
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: doing this for twenty years plus, so I mean when
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: things ping your radar, it's notable, you know, like you
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: guys know like when and like, I think that was
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: something he's good at that, Freddy. Freddy is very good
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: intact these little things that get said. No, I'm being serious.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: Sometimes you take little things that are said and you
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: look at you do it all the time in the
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: post game show when Bill's talking and we're listening to
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: the postgame show. You almost always like did you hear that?
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: And I gotta be honest with you. Usually for me
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: out because you know, halfway through like the oh three season,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: I kind of tuned out Bill's press conference and you know,
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: like you know, every once in a while you miss
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: stuff because once, you know, once every ten games he
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: says something that was a weird snort right there. I
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: don't know, but Freddy's good at picking up on little
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: subtleties sometimes with those Belichick Prescott, I'm not making fun
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: of you. I think you think I am, but I'm not.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: Felga is really good at it. Yeah, he was really
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: good at it. I think it's hard though, too, Like
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: a player like Mac where you have a kid talking
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: at a press conference and he a little nervous, you know,
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: and he's trying to get the words out, and you
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: know it can be it caused for problem if you
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: kind of take things the wrong way that we're said
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: kind of just trying to But but when he said
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: and I remember when he said it, you know, people
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: were feeling sorry for ourselves. What the hell are you
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: feeling sorry about? You just came off the by you
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: were the number one, you got you're in the driver's position,
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: the number one seed in December, and you lost the game.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: We're just there to feel sorry, you know. And then
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: you sort of look into it. You see some of
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: the stuff about that bye and they weren't happy that
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: they had to play on Saturday, you know, And that's
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: kind of stuff that's right that the Rails like weak
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: minded teams, not not Patriots teams. Uh Johnson and Porters
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Lake Nova Scotia. Two questions. When is the PU crew
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: releasing the Draft prospect podcasts? Funny you should ask. We're
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: gonna record some of those after this show. Oh, by
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: the way, Matt, we're gonna record some of those podcasts
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: that I read the question. So next week, um my guesses. Well,
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: we'll start rolling them out Monday. Okay, we'll have maybe
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: quarterbacks on Monday, running backs on Wednesday, something like that.
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: May see. Uh. And second, I was looking ahead at
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: a way too early floor and ceiling for wins for
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: the upcoming season. Based on your current feeling, what is
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: the floor and ceiling of this team? I've got four
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: wins to ten wins. Kind of the get gap it is. Yeah,
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna go like six, I'm gonna go six to eight.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna go six to nine, seven to nine. I
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: can live with six to nine. Yeah, seven to nine.
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: Look who's on the high side, none other than Eric's galleo. Wow.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Seven is my four? Nine is the ceiling. I don't
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: think he's learned. I don't think he had the learning
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: he's learning. You know, it took what I had. I
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: had seven and ten last year. I'm with you, friend,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: we know Eric, But I have the right to I
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: reserve the right to change my mind. I can't wait
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: till the first round that Thursday night, no matter who
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: they picked. Friends there until I'm talking play this year,
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: but I like it until they trade downspoint Oh, he'll
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: still still like what they're doing with this draft. I
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: like what they're holes. I give them an a night.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: Anthony from Connecticut. I've been a minute since I've written in,
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: but I've been loving the shows. This morning I heard
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Craft's comments and they were shocking. I firstly didn't realize
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: we have been without a playoff win since the Super
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Bowl in Atlanta, and wow. My question for the team is,
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: do you think this was him speaking as a fan
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: like we all do, or as a subtle message to
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: Bill that he needs to perform or be warned. I
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: would hope that he isn't giving subtle media messages after
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: twenty plus years, but it is hard to ignore the possibility.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: Thanks for all you do, and we need the big
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: Paul versus Mike battle. It'll happen maybe round one. Um,
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: I think it's both. I think I think it's I mean,
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: I think it's and it's it's smart, it's smart, it's
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: you know, I mean that's I think he's playing the
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: part of the owner. I think he's shown that he's
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: on the side of the fans, and you know, those
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: are the people that that drive all of the actually
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: said that, he actually said those words. You know, I'm
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: a first and foremost I meant fan. It's one of
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: the best things he's got in his back pocket of
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: of you know, being a season ticket holder back in
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: the day and and you know season that's a two fourteen.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: Don't think you know they had benches back then. I
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: took us was on those. But I mean I think
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: that that that just will always give him announce a credibility,
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: credibility when anyone who sat in those stands and remembers
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: watching miserable football games like you just even no, it's
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: not you know again like Jeremy Jakes is one of
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: in Buffalo, like you know, like you know, he's he
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: feels it, and I'm sure all owners feel it because
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: they want to win money. But you know, you want
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: to know that there's just that that undying kind of
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: patriot burning in him. Um George in Virginia, a lot
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: of Virginia emailers say something realini button around today, the
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: three year playoff drought. Yeah, like in the Patriots defense here,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: like is that really that huge of a drought? Like
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: they've gone three years without winning a playoff game. Two
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: of those three years they were actually in there. Well,
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: that just shows you like how great we have it here,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: that we're complete like other teams. I just want to
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: play years ago. Okay, that's good. I just wanted to
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: point that out. I know, and they're not that bad here,
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: and some of us recognize that it's not easy, right,
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: win every year? Yeah, and don't forget it's tough to
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: win in the tough don't you know. No, you guys
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: might not know that, right, don't forget. In twenty twenty
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: there was a path too. It's a path. Oh, that's right,
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: the path, the path of the path, playoff path. There
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: was a path to a sixth game. Unfortunately, Cam Newton
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: was lying in across you couldn't get over him. He
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: fumbled on the bath. Poor poor camp took the shot out.
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: He's got some interests. He's got some interest Yeah, he does.
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: I don't know it is George and Virginia. I have
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: a semi Patriots what oh? I have a semi Patriots
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: related question, And as a traditional podcast listener, I won't
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: be able to hear y'all's response till later. I don't
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: listen to the show. Back when I didn't listen to
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: the show back when the Patriots beat the Falcons and
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, And I was wondering your thoughts about
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: Matt Ryan. Do you think the twenty eight three jokes
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: should follow him to Indie? I personally always put that
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: on the Falcons coaches and defense and not so much
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: on him. I see a lot of Patriots fans trash
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: talking him online and in any comment section where he's
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: brought up. What's your opinion on that? Also, if you
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: don't mind wasting a little more time on this email,
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: could you all recall your feelings after that Super Bowl win? Yeah? God,
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: I gotta say, I am a twenty leave Matt Ryan alone.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: I just couldn't believe what I just so Ye like
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: you saw it coming, you felt it, but one even
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: and then after they finished it, you couldn't believe. It
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: was hard to believe. Yeah, he made a couple of
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: mistakes in the game along the way, like they all, Yeah,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: the whole team screwed up. I don't really I never
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: really looked at that, As you know, he was an
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: individual thing. I didn't not get it. Just Don Shanahan either. Um.
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: I think he I think I think he bears a
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: lot of the responsibility because I think they were in
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: field goal range to ice it and he should have
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: just been content to do that. But I don't know,
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: I don't, I don't. I never put it all on
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: Matt Ryan. Yeah. Sure, I think he's a good quarterback.
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: I don't think he's great. I think he's good. Um,
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: Roger and Saint Louis does clarify his question to us,
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: Paul is right with what I'm getting at. I'm looking
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: for turning points and Patriots or NFL history that had
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: unforeseen consequences. Yeah, so like drafting Tom Brady, I mean
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: nobody saw that, right, I like mine where it's a
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: weird like you might have won the super Bowl in
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: OH six, but he probably wouldn't have not kept branch
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: and they ended up having success with that in running
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: in OH six? Do they go probably wouldn't have been
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: as aggressive in OH seven? Now they didn't win anything
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: with that, right? What if would be better? What if
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: Brady doesn't blow out his knee in oh Wait? First
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: of all, man, that was a that was a that
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: was wouldn't have made the playoffs? Really do you think
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: they were still I'm just going on the team that
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: loses that yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, But I mean that
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: was no that team was loaded, they would they would
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: the OA team was loaded on the sevente um. Let's
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: see Rashwan from Georgia. Did any of you guys watch
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: the Shack Mason bucks conference he mentioned how happy is
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: that he's joining a contender. Do you think more guys
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: in the current roster feel like the Patriots aren't contenders
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: or near contending four champions? Paul? You like offensive line
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: press conferences, right, I do think there's probably if you
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: ask them, honestly, they probably don't feel like they're a
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: contender right now. But you know, him saying that doesn't
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: mean that it was a shot at the page. Yeah, yes,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: that he's going to a team. It's just specific could
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: have sent to Cleveland or right right, whatever you're landed,
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: you're gonna say you're happy to be there, right right.
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: But for that reason, he can honestly say that because
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: they are Yeah, you know, right, I agree. I don't
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: think it was a shot at the Patriots. Do you
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: think it's like for all the people that think, you know,
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: Bill hates Brady, I never hear anything about them sending
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: Jack Mason to Tampa like that doesn't really support that
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: kind of theory, right, like, why would they want to
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: help Tom Brady. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I went
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: to the wayside. I don't know. All right, that's gonna
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: do it. For this addition, I see Eric organizing his many,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: many pieces of portfolio. Um so that's it for this week.
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Who knows what next week will bring, but we know it,
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: we'll bring this show and so we'll see you next Tuesday.
