Steve Zabel: Oklahoma Legend Remembered
Steve Zabel, a true football legend who played tight end, linebacker, and punter for Oklahoma from 1967 to 1969, has passed away at 78. A versatile star who helped lead the Sooners to their first 10-win season in nearly a decade and an Orange Bowl victory, Zabel earned Second Team All-American honors as a tight end in ’68 and First Team All-American as a senior in ’69. Drafted sixth overall by the Eagles in ’70, he played 10 NFL seasons, including four with New England where he was named to the team’s All-Decade squad.
