- 0:35Here we go.
- 0:36This is going to be special, but before we get into all that, welcome
- 0:39to the drive through episode number 34.
- 0:42This is our monthly recap, where we put together a menu of automotive motor
- 0:45sport and random car adjacent news.
- 0:48Now let's pull up to the window for some automotive news.
- 0:52We have to retract one of our statements.
- 0:54We thought we were going to have a special guest host.
- 0:57Instead, we have a special episode of The Drive Thru for you, where we
- 1:01focus on finding things that were lost.
- 1:03We found Tanya this month.
- 1:05She's here with us.
- 1:06Woo!
- 1:07Not only did we find her, we found two of her.
- 1:09Double Trouble.
- 1:11Isn't there a song something Double Trouble?
- 1:13Which Tanya do I address?
- 1:15Well, there's Double Vision.
- 1:16I'm seeing Double Vision.
- 1:17I'm definitely seeing that right now.
- 1:19Yeah, I think Double Vision isn't that, that's a foreigner song, right?
- 1:22Yeah, I think so.
- 1:23It's called Double Vision.
- 1:24And you can only see that.
- 1:25Yeah.
- 1:27But you know what else, Brad?
- 1:28This episode has a new sponsor.
- 1:30Oh, yeah?
- 1:31Yeah, yeah.
- 1:32This episode brought to you by Gray Chevrolet.
- 1:35Where you can pick up a 1988 Cadillac DeVille base model for 17, 988.
- 1:42Get yourself down to Gray Chevrolet and tell them you heard it here on Brake Fix.
- 1:47We've never started a drive thru episode with Lost and Found before.
- 1:51So this is kind of fun.
- 1:52And what set it into motion is not Tanya saying that she was going to
- 1:55be here, but she came to the table with this really interesting article
- 1:59about all things, the Titanic.
- 2:02How is this car, Jason?
- 2:05Was there a car on the Titanic?
- 2:07Don't think so.
- 2:09There were piano players on the Titanic.
- 2:11We may find out after this 3d scan that there were cars on Titanic, but what's
- 2:17brilliant about this is they have this new technology that is really, really
- 2:22super accurate and they can 3d scan the floor of the ocean and all this fun stuff.
- 2:26And yet.
- 2:27All the pictures from space look like they were taken on a 1
- 2:32megapixel camera from 30 years ago.
- 2:34We still continue to find cars in barns month after month after month.
- 2:40But hey, we can map the ocean floor in high res 3 dimensions, right?
- 2:45It is Car, Jason, Tanya, and here's why.
- 2:47It actually ties into, spoiler alert, a future episode where we sit down with
- 2:52author Larry Jorgensen and we talk about a book he wrote called Shipwrecked and
- 2:58Rescued, which is all about shipwrecks where it was carrying cars and
- 3:02Michigan and all this kind of stuff.
- 3:03Don Weaver from Garage Style and I sat down and interviewed
- 3:06him and that was actually quite delightful conversation and it's.
- 3:09Been pre released several times through other affiliates, but it's going to
- 3:12be coming out here very, very soon.
- 3:14So you can tune into that.
- 3:15But I thought it was kind of funny that if we can map the ocean, we kind
- 3:18of need to map Lake Michigan and some of the other things that Larry talked
- 3:22about on that episode and see how many 1920s Chryslers are still sitting
- 3:27at the bottom of the lake, or, you know, maybe they'll find Jimmy Hoffa.
- 3:30I'm not sure which.
- 3:32Along with all things lost and found, we're going to talk
- 3:34a little bit about history.
- 3:35It's a little bit of what should I buy as well.
- 3:39So right at the top of that list, we're going to hit you hard with the
- 3:42cheapest 300 horsepower cars you can buy.
- 3:45You know, I've been looking through this list and the sad part is all
- 3:49of them, except for the Camaro 1LT, they're all over 30, 000.
- 3:54Yeah, that's the new base price these days.
- 3:56If you're not paying 35 for a car, which is something I swore I'd never
- 4:00do, you're not getting anything.
- 4:02Where's the Golf R on this list?
- 4:04That's because it's 45.
- 4:05Is it?
- 4:06Dude, it's so expensive.
- 4:07And isn't it 400 horsepower now?
- 4:09More than 300, I guess.
- 4:10The GR Corolla's on here, Todd.
- 4:12Yeah, it is!
- 4:13For a meager price of 36, 995.
- 4:17The four cylinder turbo Mustang's a good deal in here, an entry price of 29, 100.
- 4:22And having had experience with one, I mean, we know that
- 4:25they do perform really well.
- 4:26I think it has better weight distribution than the V8.
- 4:29Granted, people argue it doesn't have the power to get out of its own
- 4:32way, but John's, he put that Ford performance package on there with
- 4:36the chip from the factory and he was making like 378 at the wheels.
- 4:39I mean, that's pretty substantial for a four banger.
- 4:42Exactly.
- 4:43That's really good.
- 4:44I enjoy driving that.
- 4:45I mean, I've driven the Coyote powered Mustangs as well.
- 4:47I've been in plenty of Shelby 350s, the track, but you know, the four banger for
- 4:5130 grand, if you want a two door coupe with a manual transmission and rear
- 4:56wheel drive, it's sort of hard to beat.
- 4:57We'll go around the horn real quick.
- 4:59Which car on this list would you have?
- 5:02You only get one.
- 5:03Do I get two?
- 5:03You get two.
- 5:04There are two of you here.
- 5:05That's true.
- 5:06Eric, go.
- 5:08Man, I'd have to go with the Kia Stinger.
- 5:10Really?
- 5:12That is such a surprise.
- 5:14After you just waxed poetic about the Mustang 4 cylinder turbo, the SVO.
- 5:19Mustang's the obvious choice.
- 5:20The Stinger, because it's the precursor to the N74 Vision, which we
- 5:26can't have yet and is going to cost 200, 000, I'll go with the Stinger.
- 5:30Yes, because they look exactly the same.
- 5:31Same car underneath.
- 5:33Tanya Wan.
- 5:33GR Corolla.
- 5:35Pizarro Tanya.
- 5:36The Mustang.
- 5:37I would go with the GR Corolla.
- 5:39Moving on.
- 5:40To the hottest family cars that are genuinely fun to drive in 2023.
- 5:45What the F is this Aston Martin DBX 707?
- 5:49Whose family car is this?
- 5:51For 235, 000.
- 5:54This list is a hot...
- 5:56Mess.
- 5:57This is rich people family cars.
- 6:00Yeah, I feel like this is in the wrong section.
- 6:02This should be in rich people doing rich people things.
- 6:04The first car is 235.
- 6:06The next car is 123.
- 6:08Then we got the bargain basement Taycan at 99.
- 6:12Oh, then you get the Jeep Gladiator, which is a terrible, terrible family car.
- 6:17What was this moron smoking?
- 6:19Did the person who wrote this ever actually drive a Jeep?
- 6:22Nope.
- 6:22Because they ride like a medieval ox cart.
- 6:25Ask me how I know.
- 6:26The other things on this list, just, I don't get it.
- 6:30A Hyundai Kona?
- 6:31The Hyundai Kona, there's the WRX, Civic Type R, which is, yes, because
- 6:36the Civic is as big as an Accord, but not the Type R, that's not a family car.
- 6:40I don't know, the Camry has 300 horsepower, so it's...
- 6:43The same.
- 6:44This list is stupid.
- 6:45So here's the problem with the word family car.
- 6:48Unfortunately, there's stereotypes around that.
- 6:50So you start thinking, quote unquote, mom mobile.
- 6:52And I know it's not okay to say that.
- 6:54No, I'm thinking you have children that you're carrying
- 6:56this with your spouse or whoever.
- 6:59And it's like, you're not going to go around unless you're a rich person.
- 7:02200, 000 Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid Sport Turismo.
- 7:07I mean, what kind of family car is that?
- 7:09But if you're dad and you only have to haul the kids around
- 7:12every once in a while, it's okay.
- 7:14I don't know about you being a dad, Eric, but I can't afford a 235, 000 car.
- 7:19Can you afford a 235, 000 car?
- 7:21No, no.
- 7:22This is why I'm a cartoon avatar this month.
- 7:24I can't even afford the zoom payment.
- 7:27Mercedes AMG E63 S Wagon, 600 horsepower, V8, all wheel drive, 122, 000, really?
- 7:36This list just doesn't make any, there's no continuity between the list.
- 7:39The Hellcat is not a family car.
- 7:41There's no cohesiveness between the list.
- 7:44The WRX and the Civic, even like the Civic Si, I think would have been
- 7:48a better option for a family car.
- 7:50What is a typical family car these days?
- 7:52None of these.
- 7:54They're all SUVs.
- 7:55Exactly.
- 7:55There's not a single SUV on this list.
- 7:58That, that's...
- 7:58Well, that's not true.
- 7:59Not true.
- 7:59Well, there's the Alpha.
- 8:01There's the Alpha.
- 8:02There's the Aston Martin.
- 8:03Is that thing an SUV?
- 8:04Yeah.
- 8:05And then there's the I Pace something or other.
- 8:07Isn't that an SUV?
- 8:08That looked very squat.
- 8:09If they had changed this list to Petrelhead Father's
- 8:13Day Special or something.
- 8:15When you win the lottery, this can be your family car.
- 8:18Yes, but this is like...
- 8:20What you buy the dad, who's a petrol head that sold his sports
- 8:25car, you know, that kind of thing.
- 8:26Like if you put it in that context.
- 8:28Then it all sort of makes sense.
- 8:30But to say, these are hot family cars.
- 8:32Yeah, this is trash.
- 8:33Now I will say we have to give a special hall pass to the Audi.
- 8:39The wagon of all wagons.
- 8:42Well, there's also an AMG 63 S.
- 8:45Yeah, but it's not as cool.
- 8:46It's not as cool as the Audi because the Audi has these flares.
- 8:50It has these hips.
- 8:51If you've ever seen one in person, it is the coolest station wagon.
- 8:55In a long time for me as a long roof society member
- 8:59myself, I really like this car.
- 9:01Now, 123, 000 is a bit much, but it is probably worth every penny of it.
- 9:07That's all I'm saying.
- 9:08Maybe it should just say family car alternatives.
- 9:11We're just subjectively nitpicking.
- 9:12We don't like Brian Silvestro, I think is the thing.
- 9:15Well, we're going to see a trend as we go through this drive through this month.
- 9:19I noticed that a lot of the articles were coming from the drive and I'm starting to
- 9:22wonder if they're turning into Jalopnik.
- 9:24I'm not sure I can trust what I've been reading.
- 9:26We'll get into that as we go along.
- 9:28Also talking about what were they smoking?
- 9:32The new segment, what were they smoking?
- 9:34Best affordable sports cars of 2023 from money.
- 9:37com.
- 9:39And this was all broken down in different segments.
- 9:41Like you can best family car, best this car, best economy car.
- 9:44So I honed in on best sports car.
- 9:46Cause I was really curious.
- 9:47Here's how they broke it down.
- 9:49Best overall value and best overall went to the Toyota GR 86 best for
- 9:56safety, the burrs, which is the GR 86.
- 10:00So the GR 86 took first and fourth place.
- 10:03Apparently the Nissan Z best for features.
- 10:06The Chevy Camaro best for technology, which I'm a little puzzled about.
- 10:11And then finally, who won best handling the USS Dodge challenger.
- 10:18Good night.
- 10:19I love how there's only one kind of sports car ish.
- 10:23Category.
- 10:24No, I like that under the Dodge Challenger, it says
- 10:28few standard safety features.
- 10:32Wow.
- 10:33It's got a seatbelt.
- 10:34I didn't know what to think about this.
- 10:36We've gone from like one extreme to the other, right?
- 10:38We went from 300 horsepower cars.
- 10:40Okay, great.
- 10:41So the family car, okay, whatever.
- 10:43And now this, how does it handle better than like a, 86 or BRZ.
- 10:49There's no way.
- 10:50Maybe if I'm pushing Matchbox around my table it handles better?
- 10:53Like, who tested these cars?
- 10:55All three of these articles almost infuriate me as much as the yearly
- 11:00Consumer Reports thing, where it's so all over the map, where they'll
- 11:04ditch one car like the BRZ and say how terrible it is, and then they'll
- 11:08commend Toyota for how great the GR86 is.
- 11:11And I'm like, do you people not realize it's literally the same car?
- 11:15Stiffer badges on it.
- 11:16It's notorious for stuff like that, and I just wonder who writes this stuff.
- 11:21So the person that writes this stuff, her name is Jacqueline Trop.
- 11:24She joined money in April, 2023.
- 11:28So she's new and every single one of her articles is best.
- 11:32The Best Subcompact SUVs of 2023.
- 11:34The best electric SUVs of 2023.
- 11:36The best plugin hybrid SUVs of 2023.
- 11:38The best hybrid SUVs, 2023 Best three Row SUVs.
- 11:41Best minivans, best large SUVs.
- 11:44That's very specific categories.
- 11:46Every single one of her articles for this, that's her thing.
- 11:49That's okay.
- 11:49Cause we're going to go over to MotorTrend where they know a thing or two about cars.
- 11:54They know a thing or two cause they've seen a thing or two.
- 11:56Yeah.
- 11:57You think?
- 11:58And I love the title of this.
- 12:00Hell will freeze over before these cars become collectibles.
- 12:05I mean, they're not wrong.
- 12:06I have a problem with the first car.
- 12:08The Chevy Lumina?
- 12:09Was that the first one?
- 12:10What is there not to like about the Cadillac Catera, also known as an Opel?
- 12:14No, that's, that's just the cover photo.
- 12:16Oh no, it's the Jaguar.
- 12:16The first car.
- 12:17The Jaguar S Type R.
- 12:19You mean the Ford Mondeo S Type R.
- 12:22Exactly.
- 12:22What's wrong with the Mondeo again?
- 12:24Absolutely nothing.
- 12:25And maybe that's just it because it's built on a commodity platform
- 12:29that it will never be desirable.
- 12:30It doesn't really have any sort of specialness or rarity to it.
- 12:34I look at it and go, that's awesome.
- 12:36It means there's a ton of parts and maybe ability to modify it, do other things
- 12:39with it, make it bespoke in a certain way.
- 12:42And honestly, this Jag.
- 12:44It's pretty handsome.
- 12:45Yeah, I think it was a nice looking saloon.
- 12:47To tell you a car that was god awful ugly is the Mercury Cougar on this list.
- 12:51Yeah, that Cadillac wasn't very nice either.
- 12:54No, I refuse to even acknowledge it.
- 12:56I'm moving right to the Mercury.
- 12:58And I remembered that little baby shoe of the Aston Signet was created
- 13:03and then I immediately like deleted it from my brain because I was like,
- 13:06why did Aston make a smart car?
- 13:08Like I just don't that that will never be collectible ever.
- 13:11The only one on here that I could see being collectible, but it would be a
- 13:15niche collectors market, is the Subaru.
- 13:19The Baja?
- 13:20I could see that there'd be like some cult followers that would
- 13:23like have 10 of them or something.
- 13:25Those are the same people that buy the Pontiac Aztec.
- 13:28Exactly.
- 13:28But if you're gonna go down that route, I saw one even the other
- 13:32day, you get an old Subaru Brat.
- 13:34And there was like older gentlemen driving one around that was completely restored.
- 13:38And I was like, look at that.
- 13:39There's a Subaru from the eighties.
- 13:41There's a survivor.
- 13:42And that's cool.
- 13:43The new Baja, which tries to be the brat.
- 13:47You look at it and you go, that's a messed up look at legacy.
- 13:50Yeah, that's all it is, but I will say there's one car on,
- 13:55we're going to get to that.
- 13:56Come on.
- 13:57Am I, am I going to take your thunder?
- 13:59I'll, I'll, I'll let you do it.
- 14:00No, no, no.
- 14:01I don't want to offend any of our fans out there.
- 14:03Oh yes.
- 14:04Yes.
- 14:06Please do.
- 14:06Oh yeah.
- 14:07Now I know.
- 14:08Okay.
- 14:08Nevermind.
- 14:09Before we get to that though, there are some other ones on here that
- 14:11I think are arguably Interesting.
- 14:14Like the 318 Ti, I think is a collector car.
- 14:18People do a lot of swaps with those, the E36 based car.
- 14:21So what makes it a collector car?
- 14:23Making it a different car.
- 14:25100%!
- 14:26You take a car, you turn it into something else, and now it's a collector car.
- 14:31Yeah, that's a collector car.
- 14:32You know, I know a lot of people, they like gut these and
- 14:35they take them to the track.
- 14:36That's not a collector car.
- 14:37No, it's a donor car.
- 14:39That's a rolling chassis is what that is.
- 14:42You're right.
- 14:43It's a collection though.
- 14:44I feel the Ford.
- 14:45Contour.
- 14:46Contour SVT actually.
- 14:47I used to lust after those when I was back in high school.
- 14:51I thought they were pretty snazzy.
- 14:52And then the Ford Probe GT too.
- 14:54No, that was so lame.
- 14:56No, I drove a 24 valve probe in Europe and it was awesome.
- 15:01I actually really enjoyed that car.
- 15:03So which was the one we got?
- 15:04The one I drove was a us spec car.
- 15:06It was brought over.
- 15:06No, it was great.
- 15:08It's a Mazda six to six.
- 15:10It's got all the Mazda things you expect.
- 15:12It handles pretty well.
- 15:14It's got good power.
- 15:15They designed it.
- 15:16Sort of to compete with the Corrado, but the Corrado will clean its clock
- 15:20because it weighs so much less.
- 15:22I mean, this thing is so lame looking.
- 15:24No, it's cool.
- 15:26The probe is cool.
- 15:27The 318 TI is not backed into a wall or like a hundred miles an hour.
- 15:32I did like the Mercedes Benz 320 compressor Coupa.
- 15:35Well, how can you like that and not like the 318 TI?
- 15:38I think the compressor looks weird because I'm not a BMW guy.
- 15:42I'm not a Beamer guy.
- 15:45It's terrible.
- 15:46But there's one car we have not mentioned on this list.
- 15:48And that's for a very specific reason.
- 15:50Are we going to go there?
- 15:50We can avoid it.
- 15:51We're just going to skip it all together.
- 15:53Should we just skip it?
- 15:54No, I think our fans would be sad if we didn't, they would be remiss.
- 15:57If we did not mention this, it is not a Tesla.
- 16:00It's a car you've searched for many times on cars.
- 16:04com and bring a trailer and other places.
- 16:06It's a car we've talked about several times.
- 16:08Craigslist is where you should be looking for it.
- 16:10Craigslist.
- 16:11Facebook marketplace marketplace.
- 16:14What's a step below Craig's list?
- 16:16A Facebook marketplace.
- 16:17Yes.
- 16:18You'll find it in the garbage bin on Facebook marketplace.
- 16:21It is the Chevrolet HHR SS turbocharged.
- 16:30You know, what's awesome about that?
- 16:32Nothing.
- 16:33This car is trash.
- 16:35But they handle so well and they're very fast, I've heard.
- 16:38You can get 500 horsepower out of them.
- 16:40I mean, which is true, you can get a lot of power out of them, but still,
- 16:43you're still driving a piece of shit.
- 16:45Tanya 1 and Tanya 2.
- 16:47Think about it this way, though.
- 16:48This is why the HHR is awesome.
- 16:51It made this list of terrible, uncollectible cars.
- 16:55And you know, what's missing from this list and can now say it's second
- 16:59place to this is the PT cruiser and the Dodge Dart and the Aztec.
- 17:04Like all these cars we know are terrible.
- 17:07Didn't make it on this list.
- 17:08Maybe it's because whoever put this list together, didn't realize that
- 17:11those cars were still on the road.
- 17:12Cause I think those other cars are collectible and that's just it.
- 17:16Right?
- 17:17See the PT cruiser did it first and that's why it's collectible.
- 17:21No, not at all.
- 17:23No, nobody tried to outdo the Aztec at whatever the Aztec was trying to do.
- 17:28You know what is super collectible and I hope that maybe one day I'll
- 17:32get 55 for mine, you know, which is 5 more than I ever bid on a car.
- 17:37I will give you 56 for yours right now.
- 17:40Oh, will you?
- 17:41All right.
- 17:41Car of the Week!
- 17:42According to Rob Report, ultra rare 1971 Porsche.
- 17:47914 6 was expected to fetch a cool 550, 000 at auction.
- 17:55I have a model car of this exact vehicle on my desk.
- 17:59Again, 55 bucks is where I'm at.
- 18:03But it's just a stock.
- 18:04It is a 914 6.
- 18:05There's nothing.
- 18:06There's something else special about it.
- 18:08Yes.
- 18:09The objective of complying with SCCA rules regarding production, Porsche
- 18:13made approximately 400 of the M471 conversion kit, blah, blah, blah,
- 18:19without getting into all the very technical Porsche stuff about this.
- 18:23I missed that part.
- 18:24Okay.
- 18:25It's some homologation competition option group package
- 18:30that they made for the 914 6.
- 18:32So the price goes up with every single one of those words that
- 18:35you just said, the price goes up.
- 18:37And what's deceiving about this is you realize it's
- 18:40basically the very, very first.
- 18:43914 six GT, it has the big flares, it accommodates the
- 18:47bigger wheels from the nine 11.
- 18:49And so when you first look at it, you're not really paying attention to it.
- 18:53You're like, Oh, it's a blue nine 14 big deal.
- 18:55It's that very, very early nine 14, six GT.
- 18:59And those cars, you know, obviously went on to win many races, Nurburgring
- 19:03things like that later on in life.
- 19:04Kind of cool.
- 19:05This is akin to the nine 24 DP.
- 19:10That Al Holbert and his team were building for SCCA as well.
- 19:13Like they had these option groups for the Porsche cars to be able to compete
- 19:17probably in classes by themselves.
- 19:18This is along those lines for the nine 14, but still half a million bucks for flares.
- 19:23That's a lot.
- 19:25Yeah.
- 19:25Okay.
- 19:26That's fun.
- 19:26Too rich for my blood.
- 19:28Other things, historical and fun and rich people doing rich people things.
- 19:31And it ties into formula one as well.
- 19:33Sebastian Vettel.
- 19:34Getting back behind the wheel of a Formula One car at Goodwood.
- 19:38Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
- 19:39Who's he gonna be driving for?
- 19:42Haas?
- 19:43No, he's driving for Team Vettel.
- 19:45His own collection of F1 cars.
- 19:47Oh.
- 19:48This is really, really, really cool.
- 19:50And an autocross?
- 19:51Like, where's he gonna be?
- 19:52Goodwood.
- 19:53Ah, what?
- 19:54Festival of speed.
- 19:56Oh, that's actually kind of awesome.
- 19:57But the big thing that he's pushing, so apparently he's got like an
- 20:00ex Nigel Mansell formula car.
- 20:02He's got a McLaren MP4 that Senna drove.
- 20:06I don't know which of the ones he's going to drive or maybe he's driving
- 20:09several of them, but the thing about it, I guess it's cooler or whatever.
- 20:14more important is he's now on this sustainability kick and he was
- 20:18starting to go down that path while he was still driving in Formula
- 20:21One, recognizing the impact of fossil fuels and blah, blah, blah.
- 20:25He is going to run them on e fuels.
- 20:28Ooh, that's pretty neat.
- 20:31Is he going to get a haircut?
- 20:32I'd be nice, but you know, F1 and he is looking homeless.
- 20:37He had that hair in F1.
- 20:39So I think that's COVID hair, they call it.
- 20:42COVID hair.
- 20:43I mean, if you're buying old Formula One cars, you run out of money quick, I think.
- 20:48I had heard that he had bought Nigel's car.
- 20:50I didn't know about Senna.
- 20:51I think he also has like one of Mark Webber's cars, something like that.
- 20:55And then there's a bunch of other cars in his stable because he is a car collector.
- 20:58But I think that's kind of cool.
- 20:59And it's not the first time he's been to Goodwood.
- 21:02So something to look out for.
- 21:04Well, we might have a field trip in our future.
- 21:06Did you guys hear that Chip Ganassi tests race cars in our backyard?
- 21:10Uh, yep.
- 21:12I heard just now.
- 21:13Well, in southwestern Pennsylvania, out towards the kind folks of the Pittsburgh
- 21:18area, there is a 4, 500 foot long tunnel.
- 21:22That runs underneath Laurel Ridge.
- 21:24It has had many uses over the years.
- 21:27It was originally for railroads and some other stuff.
- 21:29And they were going to use it for diverting traffic.
- 21:31Things like that didn't really work out.
- 21:32And eventually it was abandoned and it found its new purpose in 2004.
- 21:39as a race car test center for the chip ganassi racing team lord knows what
- 21:44they're doing in the bat cave but i want to go check it out they're not
- 21:48building for gts but can you imagine what it must sound like with your own
- 21:52personal tunnel doing dino poles and top speed runs and other things like that
- 21:58i mean that's got to be pretty Awesome.
- 22:00Yes, it would be very awesome.
- 22:02I love this one little quote from the article.
- 22:04Tunnels railroad routes make it well suited for testing cars at speeds up
- 22:08to and perhaps over 100 miles an hour.
- 22:11Wow.
- 22:12100 miles an hour.
- 22:13Obviously you don't know how fast race cars are.
- 22:16And if you do venture out to the Laurel Hill Tunnel, you can also enjoy yourself
- 22:21on the Laurel Hill Hiking Trail.
- 22:23You can't actually go into it.
- 22:24At best, you can, like, see it from the outside.
- 22:27You could call and find out if they're doing tours and things.
- 22:30I think this would be fun.
- 22:31Based on the way the article was written, no, they're not.
- 22:34What?
- 22:35To get a tour of this facility, but it is part of Atlas obscura's collection
- 22:40of unique things in the United States and other parts of the world.
- 22:43So if you haven't checked out their website before you ever seen those
- 22:46books, like weird Maryland and weird Portland, oh wait, no, that's
- 22:50just the Portland yellow pages.
- 22:52You know, all those books.
- 22:53That highlight all the strange things in your state.
- 22:55So this is right along the, up there with it, uh, over on atlasobscura.
- 22:59com.
- 23:00Oh, and I moved to a new state.
- 23:01So all kinds of fun stuff for me to find down here.
- 23:04Down under?
- 23:05Down under.
- 23:06Crikey!
- 23:07I see that the value of dodge darts have gone up.
- 23:11Yeah, I don't actually think so.
- 23:15Dude, I love this meme.
- 23:16This meme is hilarious.
- 23:18In 2017, you could get a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat for $65,000.
- 23:25In 2022, you could get a Dodge Challenger RT No Hellcat for $65,000.
- 23:32In 2030, you can get a brand new 2014 Dodge Dart.
- 23:37For 65, 000 with the prices, the way they're going these days.
- 23:42That is not far off.
- 23:44It's called an inflation.
- 23:45It's called insanity over and bring a trailer, right?
- 23:48There is something off the charts.
- 23:49So I've been scouring bring a trailer and I found something very peculiar.
- 23:53Oh, it is a 2006.
- 23:56Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 4x4 with 16, 000 miles.
- 24:04How much would you think this truck sold for?
- 24:06I'm gonna go with our obvious guess here.
- 24:0965, 000.
- 24:11Close.
- 24:12What?
- 24:12This truck sold for 40, 000.
- 24:15What?
- 24:16Some moron.
- 24:17And yes.
- 24:19I'm calling you a moron.
- 24:20Paid 40, 000 for this stupid thing.
- 24:26Oh my god.
- 24:2640, 000, I hate to say, you could pick up a couple year old pickup?
- 24:31Maybe a base model F 150 or a Tundra or 000, you can pick up like a 2017 Tahoe.
- 24:37Right?
- 24:38You don't need to buy a 2006, which has basically the same motor.
- 24:42They're both 5.
- 24:433 liters.
- 24:44I'm telling you, you'll want the newer motor.
- 24:46Now that square bodies are so expensive, they have to move on to the round bodies.
- 24:50That's why that 2006 is desirable.
- 24:53It is not desirable.
- 24:54Whoever bought this is You dumb.
- 24:56Speaking of things Mountain Man Dan would be interested in, He
- 25:00texted us on Discord the other day, and he said he was considering,
- 25:03of all things, a station wagon.
- 25:05Can you believe this guy?
- 25:07So he said at one point, he considered it.
- 25:10I don't know why he would buy something so new.
- 25:13They didn't make a CTS V wagon in 1985.
- 25:17What they did is the family truckster.
- 25:21Buick Roadmasters.
- 25:22I didn't realize there was a square body CTS V wagon.
- 25:26Put a 454 in that Buick Roadmaster.
- 25:28You're all right.
- 25:29That's the CTS V.
- 25:30There you go.
- 25:30Yeah.
- 25:31And it's a square body, you see.
- 25:33Why was that not on the family haulers list?
- 25:36So Dan tells us that he's considered a CTSV wagon before, and he
- 25:40sends us a link to a new one.
- 25:42And you know what the price was on that?
- 25:44Our magic number of 65, 000 because it's a car that was 40
- 25:49when it was new and it's 65 today.
- 25:51So here we go again.
- 25:53I should just do a search on bring a trailer for anything 65, 000.
- 25:56That's the new price point right there, man.
- 25:58That's craziness.
- 25:59I scoured the internet and I found something you will find interesting.
- 26:04You can get either a brand new 2000 that's two zero zero zero
- 26:11Volkswagen Jetta, GLS TDI, or.
- 26:16A 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6, both of them brand new, according to
- 26:24the site at Alexandria Volkswagen, just up the road from me, just down
- 26:29the road from you, MSRP, 23, 000.
- 26:32Oh man.
- 26:32The price of my car just went up through the roof.
- 26:35My God.
- 26:35So if anybody wants a brand new Mark four Volkswagen, either the gasser or
- 26:41the diesel, you can get one brand new.
- 26:43My left foot.
- 26:446, 500 becomes 65, 000 really quick at a zero.
- 26:50Located in the scenic suburbs of Joseph city, Arizona, destined
- 26:55to fetch a high value here, I present you with the 2001 Acura.
- 27:01You know what, I think this is a steal.
- 27:03The cost of wood prices?
- 27:04I mean, shit, you buy this for the wood.
- 27:07Brad, how much Dogecoin would you give for this?
- 27:09I am still selling my Cybertruck reservation.
- 27:13If anybody wants to buy my Cybertruck reservation for 3,
- 27:17000, I will turn around and buy.
- 27:19The Acura Plymouth truck.
- 27:20You should, because you're guaranteed delivery on this Plymouth truck.
- 27:23I wonder what the, uh, insurance is on this.
- 27:26Do you have to take out, like, special insurance due to termite infestation?
- 27:31Is there special fire insurance?
- 27:33Yeah, exactly.
- 27:35But they'll include a camper attachment with it.
- 27:38Did you see those exhaust pipes?
- 27:40I love the interior.
- 27:43It's got the star interior from a Rolls Royce.
- 27:46The things people will spend money on and build just blow my mind.
- 27:53My question is, is there an actual car under there?
- 27:56The body is under there and it's just covered in geometrically aligned
- 28:02Cybertruck esque plywood panels.
- 28:06If you look at the interior picture and you look at the roof, that's wood.
- 28:10There is no, like, Acura MDX underneath this.
- 28:14Oh, what?
- 28:14You know what?
- 28:14You're right.
- 28:15It's Acura MDX chassis.
- 28:17There are no MDX body panels on this.
- 28:20You're right.
- 28:20The roof, from the inside shot, you can see the wood, so they cut the roof off.
- 28:25This was a unibody car.
- 28:26How the fuck did they do this?
- 28:29I don't know that any of that matters, because there's two important points here.
- 28:33First of all, it is a legitimate Tesla like product because the
- 28:37parts were sourced from the same place that Tesla sources its parts.
- 28:41The other thing is, I have to commend them on the precision of the alignment of the
- 28:47body panels and all of the color matches.
- 28:51Look at that panel gap.
- 28:54Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:55Elon better watch his back.
- 28:56Acura is coming for you.
- 28:58This is one of those moments when you're up at the mountain and Dan's
- 29:00like, I can do it for cheaper.
- 29:02The question is, is this going to be a collectible more than the HHR?
- 29:06I think this will be in a museum.
- 29:08You'll see this in like Ripley's Believe It or Not.
- 29:10By museum, you mean bonfire.
- 29:12Junkyard, same difference.
- 29:15I have a question.
- 29:16I guess in fairness, there's no rules around this.
- 29:18It's street legal.
- 29:20Yeah, because it's an Acura MDX.
- 29:22Yeah, it's titled as an MDX.
- 29:24But if the body panels have been removed, disturbed, I mean,
- 29:30clearly the front bumper, the crash brace bar is still there.
- 29:34So I guess structurally and safety wise, what if you get Hit in this wood box.
- 29:43Well, they put you straight in the ground.
- 29:46You're already in your coffin.
- 29:48Nobody light a match.
- 29:49Like you can't smoke it.
- 29:51This is a no smokers car.
- 29:53This thing is genius.
- 29:55That's all.
- 29:56Do you think this is like treated?
- 29:58Like If it's out in the elements, because it has no windows.
- 30:02It still has the barcode on the fender, like when he bought it from Home Depot.
- 30:06I mean, you can tell it's ridiculous.
- 30:08But did he splurge for the pressure treated outdoor grade?
- 30:12It's Arizona, it's there in the desert.
- 30:14It doesn't really, you're right.
- 30:16It doesn't rain, Sarazona.
- 30:17I like the added touch of the tire shine on the tire treads.
- 30:21Did you guys notice that?
- 30:22That's fresh to def, yo.
- 30:26This thing is awesome.
- 30:27But you know what?
- 30:28All jokes aside, it has something in common with a vehicle that
- 30:31we're going to talk about later.
- 30:32This thing is just amazing.
- 30:34Brad, I think you should give up your Cybertruck allotment for a Plybertruck.
- 30:38Three brand new Tesla Roadsters have been found sitting in a container for
- 30:43over a decade and that is where they shall remain because nobody wants them.
- 30:47How'd they get there?
- 30:47They found a shipping container in China with three brand new Tesla Roadsters.
- 30:52They used the 3D scanning from the Titanic now.
- 30:55X ray vision into the shipping containers, which I think we need actually.
- 30:59So many shipping containers that still, God knows what's in them.
- 31:02But we probably don't want to know cool.
- 31:04They're brand new.
- 31:04They're going to need new batteries.
- 31:06Guarantee.
- 31:06They don't work.
- 31:07I'm surprised.
- 31:08They haven't caught fire.
- 31:09I thought Tesla said you couldn't get the batteries for those anymore.
- 31:12So basically you had the 3000 pound paperweight, which is the scary part
- 31:16about some of these electric cars.
- 31:18What happens?
- 31:19When the battery technology changes, let's say we do standardize who uses D
- 31:24batteries anymore, as an example, anybody know you make the same power out of four
- 31:28double A's, you know, that kind of thing.
- 31:30And so what happens when you can't get the battery for your EV anymore?
- 31:34I think this is a classic case of brand new cars that are useless.
- 31:38I mean, maybe they'll end up in a museum somewhere.
- 31:41Yeah, it's sad.
- 31:42Are we sure they're really Teslas?
- 31:44Are they Turslers or Twizzlers or something like that?
- 31:47Are we sure they're Teslas?
- 31:49We're never quite sure.
- 31:50They could be protons for all we know, Malaysia.
- 31:52So kind of wrapping out our showcase here, talking about all things lost,
- 31:56found, historical, and just weird.
- 32:00Did you know that the Corvette finds its roots in, of all places, Watkins Glen?
- 32:05There's a little known story from the creator of the Corvette, Harley
- 32:09J Earl, who talked to the Detroit Free Press, I think it was, several
- 32:14years after the Corvette was built and is quoted as saying, I went to
- 32:18the Grand Prix at the Glen and it inspired me to build a sports car.
- 32:21Our friendly friends at the International Motor Racing
- 32:24Research Center have been digging.
- 32:26Into that story, going through the archives, fact
- 32:28checking, verifying, et cetera.
- 32:29And I actually got together with Kip.
- 32:31He did a presentation in preparation for the 70th anniversary of the
- 32:36Corvette this year and the 75th anniversary of Watkins Glen.
- 32:39And it kind of ties the two stories together.
- 32:40They're doing a big to do at the Glen celebrating the Corvette's birthday.
- 32:44It's all about Corvette this year, which is awesome.
- 32:46They're giving away a Corvette.
- 32:47Or here as we go along how you can enter to win that Corvette.
- 32:50We have hosted the story in a couple of different places.
- 32:53You can get it on Garage Style.
- 32:54You'll be able to get it over on gtmotorsports.
- 32:56org, stuff like that.
- 32:57And it's the little known story of how Watkins Glen influenced Harley
- 33:01J Earl into designing the Corvette.
- 33:03And the car that actually kind of sort of spawned the Corvette's beginnings
- 33:08is also quite interesting too.
- 33:09Carries the name Le Sabre.
- 33:11If you want to know more about the early, early, early days of the Corvette,
- 33:15head on over to Garage Style and GT Motorsports to check out that article.
- 33:18And there's one more little bit of history that we need to talk about.
- 33:22I think he's looking pretty damn good for 84 years young.
- 33:25What do y'all think?
- 33:26Indeed.
- 33:27Yeah.
- 33:28If you're just tuning into the show today, all you have to do is go back.
- 33:32One episode to know what we're talking about.
- 33:34In celebration of our three year anniversary of Break Fix, and 200 episodes
- 33:39later, and believe me, our foot is still heavy to the floor on the accelerator
- 33:43pedal around here, we had the legendary.
- 33:46If there is anyone that is the man, the myth, and the legend rolled up
- 33:49into one, we had Mario Andretti.
- 33:51On the show and a big shout out to our friend, William Ross over at exotic
- 33:55car marketplace for making a lot of that happen and being part of that.
- 33:59And I shout out to the IMRRC as well for helping us with some of
- 34:02the research, et cetera, but having Mario on the show was absolutely.
- 34:07Amazing.
- 34:07He is very sharp.
- 34:09He is very technical and he is raring to get behind the wheel of
- 34:13a modern formula one car again.
- 34:15And he talks about that on the episode.
- 34:17He also talks about the future of Andretti autosport and formula
- 34:20one and the relationship with Wayne Taylor racing as well.
- 34:23It wasn't just old stuff talking about dirt car or Indy or the Daytona 500.
- 34:28We talked about all sorts of really interesting stuff, a lot to do with
- 34:31his time at Le Mans in formula one.
- 34:33And also.
- 34:34If you're unaware, he ran Pike's Peak three times with Bobby Unser.
- 34:39So lots of really cool stuff in that episode, especially if you want to
- 34:42know some little tidbits about Mario's history that you might not already know.
- 34:46Well, that wraps up Lost and Found.
- 34:48Now it's time to talk about Porsche, Audi, and Volkswagen news.
- 34:51What do we have?
- 34:52We've already heard Audi's entering the Formula One fray.
- 34:55Gonna join with Sauber who is branded as Alfa Romeo right now, not until
- 35:002026 when the new engine stuff changes.
- 35:03The announcement, the latest one was they're planning later this
- 35:07year to do bench testing on their proposed engine for the future.
- 35:11I would love to hear that.
- 35:13Rumor has it, after this episode airs, mark your calendars, June the 8th, on
- 35:18the anniversary of the iconic Porsche 356, Porsche is launching a new car.
- 35:24Another 911.
- 35:25Right?
- 35:26It's a new special edition 911 that will cost...
- 35:29Five million dollars on bring a trailer.
- 35:32Put some sort of, like, 356 badge on it then, like, I don't know, make it special.
- 35:36There's some interesting stuff in here, like a quote from Seinfeld
- 35:40that says they might be putting the flat eight in this car.
- 35:43I'm like...
- 35:44It's flat eight.
- 35:45What, what are we talking about here?
- 35:47Well, plus remember the race cars are mid engine now.
- 35:49Well, I guess they keep moving the six cylinder forward.
- 35:51They got extra space in the engine compartment.
- 35:53They can add two more cylinders now.
- 35:55So that gives them a lot more room.
- 35:56They could do that.
- 35:57I think Seinfeld's on crack, but yeah, that would be cool if they did that.
- 36:01Why does Porsche do the things they do?
- 36:05Why do they call it Ovaltine?
- 36:08He's got a license plate that says
- 36:12Plyberman.
- 36:13Do we need another 911?
- 36:15Do we need another livery package?
- 36:16Do we need another combination of letters?
- 36:19You know, whether it's the 911 ST that has been rumored.
- 36:22So Tanya's point, it's just going to be another 911.
- 36:24Where is the new 928?
- 36:26Where is the new 944?
- 36:28Where, where?
- 36:29Where the new 928 is the Cayenne and the new 944 is the
- 36:35McCann or whatever it's called.
- 36:36Portia do something different.
- 36:38I did find something interesting this month, a quick follow up as we
- 36:42kind of travel to Lower Saxony here.
- 36:44There's new news about the e ink that BMW is alleging for, you
- 36:51know, some of their concept cars.
- 36:52And you remember we heard about the e ink prism.
- 36:55It's that multicolor e paper film.
- 36:57They did it on a couple of BMW prototypes and it's like, you could have like
- 37:00grayscale, white, black, whatever.
- 37:03Now they're talking.
- 37:04Color changing.
- 37:06Whaaaaaaaaat?
- 37:08I don't know.
- 37:08Are we supposed to be surprised?
- 37:09No, but we speculated about this.
- 37:11How cool would it be going down the road and you get one of those cheesy
- 37:15little remotes like when you buy any Chinese LED from Amazon, right?
- 37:18With the little buttons that you hit in blue, green, red, yellow.
- 37:22Honestly, I think it's stupid and I hope it doesn't happen.
- 37:24Why?
- 37:25You don't want to automatically be able to repaint your car on the fly?
- 37:28It's not repainting though.
- 37:29No, not really.
- 37:30And the first rock that hits it, I'm sure, is going to F the whole thing up.
- 37:34Not to mention, there's just too many bad people in the world.
- 37:37I was about to say, what does law enforcement think about this?
- 37:39Oh, my car was yellow.
- 37:40Hit a quick button.
- 37:41Oh, uh, that wasn't me who just ran over an old lady on a sidewalk.
- 37:44That was that yellow car.
- 37:46My car is purple.
- 37:47Oh, you got to make the car red so it hides the...
- 37:49It's the blood.
- 37:50My bad.
- 37:50You're right.
- 37:51That'll all change in the future.
- 37:53I'm going to make a really old reference here, but it's going to be
- 37:59like the pilot episode of Sequest.
- 38:01It's going to be RFIDs and barcodes, and it doesn't matter what color your bike is
- 38:05or your car is or whatever, because you're not going to be able to change that tag.
- 38:09We're not going to need license plates in the future.
- 38:11Everything's going to be wireless and electronic.
- 38:13We're not even going to need roads in the future.
- 38:15Where we're going.
- 38:16We don't need them.
- 38:17Yes.
- 38:17I don't want that to happen either.
- 38:19It's going to happen.
- 38:19I'm telling you, we just deducted 250 from your bank account.
- 38:23Thank you for speeding.
- 38:25That's how it's going to work.
- 38:26I'm telling you it's coming.
- 38:27Sequest, but it's not going to be dollars.
- 38:29It's going to, we just took 250 credits from you or what's that new
- 38:33currency that they're talking about?
- 38:35That's supposed to rival the dollar muskets, muskets,
- 38:40the revolutionary wartime.
- 38:42No, Musk, Elon Musk.
- 38:44Oh, that's his new crew, Muskets!
- 38:46I like that!
- 38:47Well, you know what's not good, and I was a little scared the other day?
- 38:51A recall from Stellantis.
- 38:54And I'm like, luckily, thankfully, I read it very carefully.
- 38:58I'm glad you did because, you know, one of our members is very quick to
- 39:02point out whenever there's anything wrong with something that might be
- 39:05owned by somebody else in the group.
- 39:07So if you own one of these vehicles from 2014 to 2016, there is a recall
- 39:12for over 220, 000 Jeep Cherokees.
- 39:16Not Grand Cherokees where there is an issue with the power lift gate.
- 39:21There's like a drainage issue.
- 39:22It causes a short, the power lift gates might catch on fire.
- 39:25The recall states that you should park your car outdoors away from your home.
- 39:31But the recall is when the vehicle gets wet, it might short and catch on fire.
- 39:35So wouldn't it be smart to keep it inside where it's dry?
- 39:39I was a little confused on the resolution here.
- 39:42If you are out driving it in the rain, and then you came home and parked it in your
- 39:46garage, you probably shouldn't do that.
- 39:48Yes, just let it burn to the ground.
- 39:50I mean, it is a regular Cherokee.
- 39:52Maybe you shouldn't be driving it in the rain at all, because couldn't
- 39:55it spark and catch on fire while you're doing 70 down the road?
- 39:58That'd be cool.
- 39:59This is part of a long list of terrible recalls by Stellantis
- 40:03customer service right now.
- 40:04Kid you not, I have a series of them for the Pacifica.
- 40:07And the very first one is like, there's a problem with the transmission.
- 40:11Like that's all it said.
- 40:12He's just like, don't call us, we'll call you.
- 40:15I mean, that's like literally just the email.
- 40:18I have it taped to the fridge in the garage.
- 40:22I kid you not.
- 40:22And I look at it and I laugh.
- 40:23It's right next to the recall.
- 40:25I continue to get.
- 40:26For a 2000 Audi TT for the airbags, which, you know, I want to take the race car to
- 40:30the dealership and see what they think.
- 40:32I love these recalls, right?
- 40:34And then there was another one that came after it and it said, okay,
- 40:36we've identified that the transmission may fail and the car will just
- 40:40stop operating without warning.
- 40:42There will be no symptoms.
- 40:43I'm like, okay.
- 40:44And I'm looking for the resolution.
- 40:46Like, what are you supposed to do?
- 40:47And there's no resolution for them to call again.
- 40:50It's we will call you, right?
- 40:52Well, our people will call your people, but it doesn't say
- 40:55don't stop driving your car.
- 40:57It's just like, you know, your transmission just might stop working.
- 41:00Like, Oh, okay.
- 41:01That's cool.
- 41:02So we got the third one.
- 41:03And then it finally says nothing more than the previous two said, other than call us.
- 41:08To discuss your vehicle.
- 41:10So they've written us three times and my wife is like, isn't this the
- 41:14problem we already had where they replaced it like a while ago, because
- 41:17we did have an issue where it just suddenly bricked itself and Chrysler
- 41:22swooped in and they changed the trans.
- 41:24They actually put an upgraded transit and all this other kind of stuff.
- 41:26And it was all under warranty and it was great.
- 41:28So I'm wondering if we were on the front end of that particular recall,
- 41:31the absurdity to put that paranoia in any minute now, my car might just die.
- 41:3770 miles an hour on the highway, right?
- 41:39I mean, that's just insane.
- 41:40You know, I want to go back to your recall for the TT.
- 41:44I wholeheartedly think you should load it up on the trailer and take
- 41:47it down to the Audi dealer and say, yes, I've got a recall for airbags.
- 41:51I need new airbags.
- 41:53Can you please put them in my car?
- 41:54The best would be to hand them the airbag controller and the steering wheel.
- 41:59Yes.
- 42:02They're not attached to the car at all.
- 42:04Yes.
- 42:05Oh, that'd be great.
- 42:07Now that we've dipped our toe into our domestic news, let's continue
- 42:10on with the rest of Ford and GM brought to us by AmericanMuscle.
- 42:15com, your source for OEM and performance replacement parts for
- 42:18your Stellantis GM or Ford product.
- 42:21First one is the Ford F 150 Lightning, their EV electric pickup
- 42:27truck, catching fire at Dearborn.
- 42:30So actually three of them, I guess, were in the lot.
- 42:34There was some issue with battery cells, and they, I guess, spontaneously combusted
- 42:38because there was nobody in them.
- 42:39They might have been on chargers.
- 42:41Maybe they were actively being charged, and obviously if there was
- 42:44a problem with a cell, created a reaction, set it on fire, etc, etc.
- 42:48I found it funny, the responding officers, quote, were not putting this effort out.
- 42:54To look at it, they have to put like a whole effing lake on it to put them out.
- 43:02So it went full Chernobyl is what you're saying.
- 43:04All three of them pretty melted down from the photos.
- 43:08I mean, they're not completely down to like just nothing as we've seen.
- 43:12Some other EVs like some Teslas.
- 43:14There's been photos of that before.
- 43:16Like, I think they caught them in time.
- 43:18Did they confirm that all three of them spontaneously combusted or
- 43:21just one did and got the other two?
- 43:24Oh, chain reaction.
- 43:25I'm saying that.
- 43:26Because it looks like the one in the middle is significantly more damage.
- 43:30I'm wondering if That's the one, but then the left side of the one
- 43:34on the right is destroyed too.
- 43:36It's like the right most truck, the left side of it is more destroyed
- 43:40maybe than the side next to them.
- 43:42Yeah.
- 43:42So who knows?
- 43:43Yeah, it does look like they were charging too.
- 43:45It does look like they were charging.
- 43:47All it says is that they traced it back to a battery cell production issue.
- 43:51You made an astute observation there, Bradley, since you have
- 43:54your Indiana Jones hat on as well.
- 43:56You're looking for things here.
- 43:57You found a clue and this is something I've been thinking about for a while.
- 44:00So imagine you're at Sheetz or Target, Walmart, and they have Tesla
- 44:05chargers or they have whatever charges available and you're in a row of cars
- 44:09and maybe you go about your business and something like this happens.
- 44:12And the truck next to you melts to the ground in a pile of goo.
- 44:16Is it going to create a chain reaction with all the other
- 44:18EVs that are there charging?
- 44:20Technically, if the flames or the heat alone, yeah, that's a huge risk on any
- 44:27lithium battery, whether it's your cell phone or your laptop or whatever it is.
- 44:32You do not want to expose them to extreme heat or any sort of fire because you can
- 44:37fuck them up and then bad things happen.
- 44:41What happens?
- 44:42You can compromise them, right?
- 44:43And then they'll go off on their own.
- 44:46When a vehicle is charging and it explodes, it catches fire like
- 44:49this and you spontaneously combust.
- 44:52Does it do anything to the system that it's connected to?
- 44:54Does it send some sort of overload or something back through the system that
- 44:59could affect other vehicles that might?
- 45:01Be on the system as well.
- 45:03I hadn't even thought about that.
- 45:04And you're right.
- 45:05There's some sort of feedback.
- 45:06You know, maybe those systems have an emergency cut off.
- 45:09I would assume they've designed them because you can do that right in the,
- 45:13if you want to call it circuitry for probably lack of proper technical terms.
- 45:17Yeah.
- 45:17But when the circuitry is melting.
- 45:19They designed the cars to not spontaneous combust, too, but they still do that.
- 45:22You'll have blown some other capacitor in that circuit, right?
- 45:25So when you're charging anything, you can have a reverse signal where it
- 45:29faults and then will stop the flow into whatever it's trying to charge.
- 45:34It reaches a certain voltage and just shuts off or something like that, maybe.
- 45:37The article makes it sound like the growing risk of...
- 45:40of EVs and fire, right?
- 45:43And what we don't know is, and what other people will counter argue, is that
- 45:46plenty of ICE engines do catch on fire.
- 45:49You'll see them on the side of the road burnt down the same way as an EV.
- 45:52Of the vehicles on the road, what percentage of those are catching
- 45:56fire versus what percentage of EVs on the road are catching fire?
- 45:59I don't know what those numbers are.
- 46:01Are they higher in EVs?
- 46:02Are they less?
- 46:03Like if you normalize them together, which one has the higher risk?
- 46:06The bigger problem isn't any of them catching on fire.
- 46:10The bigger problem is it's really easy to put out an ice engine fire.
- 46:13You put the fire hose on it and you're done.
- 46:16The lithium battery fire is much more difficult to put out.
- 46:19Not all the fire people are trained and they don't have the proper foam
- 46:23or whatever other chemicals that they need beyond water to put them out.
- 46:26And my other concern with EVs would be what is all that doing to the
- 46:29environment if you're dousing all that foam and stuff and then it's leaching
- 46:33into your groundwater, into your drinking water and all that stuff.
- 46:36There's other ramifications.
- 46:37Is it like environmentally friendly foam?
- 46:39No, it's nasty stuff like halon and other things.
- 46:42In response to your ice engine cars on the side of the road, burning down.
- 46:46And I say, yes, I've seen that too, but have you paid close attention to those
- 46:50cars that are burning on the shoulder?
- 46:52They sort of deserved it.
- 46:56We can take Daniel's square body as case in point.
- 46:58We have video of that, by the way, if anybody wants to see it
- 47:01available free on our YouTube.
- 47:02Hit us up on discord.
- 47:03Speaking of General Motors.
- 47:05They're taking a step into 2015.
- 47:08They just hired an Apple executive to head up their new software division.
- 47:13I'm not an IT person, so I could care less.
- 47:15Yeah, same.
- 47:15It's sort of like when the Apple guy was waving the flag at that
- 47:18race and nobody knew who he was.
- 47:20Oh, is the point of this to show how General Motors is still
- 47:23constantly behind the times?
- 47:26I think so.
- 47:27Right.
- 47:28It would have been funnier if they had said that they had hired
- 47:30somebody from like BlackBerry.
- 47:32Like, yeah, bulldoze their cotton.
- 47:34Nokia executive hired by General Motors.
- 47:37Like, all right, you got a vision of the future.
- 47:41Again, lost and found all this stuff coming to the surface.
- 47:45Again, in the line of General Motors, over the last couple of years, we've
- 47:50talked about all the extensive issues.
- 47:52And recalls with the C8, some are funny, some not so much that, you know, need to
- 47:57be taken care of right away, especially if I'm an early C8, stuff like that.
- 48:00But now, as we've mentioned before, a lot of tracks are sort
- 48:04of bipolar on where they stand in terms of allowing EVs on track.
- 48:10Last month, I believe it was, we talked about how Summit Point has put out because
- 48:14of new insurance and things like that.
- 48:16No EVs.
- 48:17On the track of any kind, it doesn't matter who they're made by now.
- 48:21That doesn't mean you can't go as a spectator and be in the paddock and things
- 48:24like that, but you're not going to run your Tesla at some point on the track.
- 48:27You know, things like that.
- 48:28A lot more racetracks are taking that stance.
- 48:32And what's the hottest car on the market right now with an electric hybrid that
- 48:36everybody probably wants to take to their next hooked on driving event.
- 48:39Tracks are saying no way.
- 48:41To the E ray.
- 48:42Oh, well, it's like the NSX in a lot of ways, as we've joked about in the past.
- 48:47It's such a small hybrid.
- 48:49I sort of feel like the Corvette didn't need this.
- 48:52This article specifically touches on events sanctioned by the
- 48:57National Council of Corvette Clubs.
- 49:00They're the ones banning the E rate.
- 49:02You know, I'm not that big of an EV fan to begin with, but I feel like
- 49:06this is more of a political move to show their dislike for the fact that
- 49:11Corvette has gone E more than they want to just ban it because it's an EV.
- 49:17Are you saying this is a OK Boomer moment?
- 49:21Yes, in addition to the things you've already stated, like the cost
- 49:24of insurance and stuff like that, these people are running DEs and
- 49:28club racing and things like that.
- 49:29Yes, those costs go up, but my spidey senses are tingling and I feel like this
- 49:35is a political move for some reason.
- 49:37I don't know why.
- 49:38I'm just, my, my cynicism is getting the better of me.
- 49:40But haven't other Organizations also said no EVs on track.
- 49:45I don't know that organizations specifically have, but some
- 49:48racetracks specifically have.
- 49:49That's correct.
- 49:50But when, but when I saw this was events sanctioned by the National Council of
- 49:55Corvette Clubs, it kind of Triggered.
- 49:58I'm triggered.
- 49:59I feel triggered.
- 50:00Well, I don't know what to think about it.
- 50:02You know, I have said before that I think the C8 was a step away from the
- 50:08classic Corvette owner and no offense.
- 50:10We have plenty of friends in the Corvette club.
- 50:12We love Corvettes.
- 50:13I love going to NCM and coaching Corvettes and things like that.
- 50:16I still have yet to coach in a C8 that's coming.
- 50:19I think it's a step away from.
- 50:22What people are used to, and I think people are still trying to adjust
- 50:25to that, like anything else, there's early adopters, but if you look at
- 50:28the crowd of people that are buying Corvettes right now, the C8s, it's
- 50:33going to be younger folks, right?
- 50:34People that want that American NSX, or they want that, it's, it's like a Ferrari
- 50:39or like a Lambo, but it's got an LS under the hood, you know, kind of thing.
- 50:44Mid engine is a step in the right direction for Corvette.
- 50:47They've tried several times over the years, if we look at it historically,
- 50:51you know, there's been a lot of failed attempts at a mid engine
- 50:53Corvette and they finally did it.
- 50:55It may be a day late and a dollar short in some respects.
- 50:57I mean, would we be having the same discussion today if they had
- 51:01done it when they brought out the C5, kind of stepping away from the
- 51:04C4 instead of waiting until now?
- 51:06Who knows, right?
- 51:07We don't know.
- 51:08But.
- 51:08People are sometimes hesitant to change, reluctant to change.
- 51:11This is a microcosm of that versus let's say the greater EV discussion
- 51:15where people are still grappling with range anxiety and other issues
- 51:18and things that we're talking about.
- 51:19I mean, the fire is a real concern.
- 51:21This stinks a little bit.
- 51:23It's a little petty unless the track says, no, who cares?
- 51:27Or if your insurance company says no, right.
- 51:29But if the insurance company says we will allow it for X amount of
- 51:33dollars, then you increase your registration costs to cover it.
- 51:36Or you charge the people that want to bring in EV a little bit more money.
- 51:39If the E Ray is probably heavier than the stock C8 because of everything
- 51:44else it has to carry with it, yes, it's making more power, but let's say
- 51:47they left the brakes alone and it's anything like Andrew's C8 was, and
- 51:51it chews up the brakes and suddenly you've got nothing going into turn one
- 51:55at summit point at 150 miles an hour.
- 51:57The ramifications of that wreck, to Tanya's point from earlier, are
- 52:02you equipped to handle the battery fire and everything else that's
- 52:05going to come from that, right?
- 52:06So that's a scary reality.
- 52:08What about you as the driver?
- 52:10That lithium fire that they can't put out quickly, that's burning
- 52:14hotter, likely, than if your gas car had caught your fire suit.
- 52:19Probably isn't rated for lithium ion battery fire.
- 52:22Yeah, it's useless.
- 52:23So we'll have to have a conversation with our resident safety clothing
- 52:28and apparel company to see if there's any developments on changing the
- 52:33technology behind race suits to see if they're going to make something.
- 52:36And there might be, since don't they have Formula E, so those guys might
- 52:40have special million dollar race suits, but is that trickling down to OG?
- 52:45How many fires have there been at a Formula E event since
- 52:50the race series has started?
- 52:53If they do happen, it's not publicized very often.
- 52:57Although I don't know how much of Formula E is publicized.
- 53:00I don't know.
- 53:00I never hear anything about it and I don't follow it, so.
- 53:03You know, we talk about EVs and that they spontaneously
- 53:06combust and everything like that.
- 53:07Does it ever happen when they're moving or is it only when
- 53:10they're stationary and shut off?
- 53:12A lot of the ones that I've reported seem to be like randomly parked in
- 53:16garages and stuff, but I don't know.
- 53:19Which ones were moving, obviously, when they've suddenly stopped moving,
- 53:22there have been problems, fires.
- 53:26They once were moving and abruptly stopped.
- 53:28Isn't that what Clarkson said would always get you?
- 53:30It's that sudden stop.
- 53:31Yeah.
- 53:31It's not the speed that gets you.
- 53:33It's that stopping.
- 53:34Speaking of the Chevrolet Corvette E Ray, the first electrified Chevrolet
- 53:40Corvette E Ray just sold for over one.
- 53:441, 000, 000.
- 53:46Did it come with lasers?
- 53:47You mean for the windshield wipers?
- 53:49Yes.
- 53:50A million bucks for a Corvette, really?
- 53:52I don't know what to say.
- 53:53Somebody with money that that was like 1, 000 to them.
- 53:57Rick Hendrick, C8 Corvette NASCAR team owner.
- 54:00Oh, Hendrick Motorsports.
- 54:02Yeah.
- 54:02Okay.
- 54:02Well.
- 54:03Oh, okay.
- 54:03Yeah.
- 54:03So it was like 1, 000.
- 54:04Yeah.
- 54:04He prints money.
- 54:05I mean, come on.
- 54:07Good for him.
- 54:07He can say he had the first one, right?
- 54:09And it's a Hendrick Corvette or whatever, blah, blah, blah, but a million bucks.
- 54:12I mean, it's still an expensive car at 150 grand or whatever it is.
- 54:18If that ain't enough, sounds like Audi's not going to be the only one
- 54:22bringing power plants to Formula One.
- 54:24Nope.
- 54:24General Motors.
- 54:26Supposedly Chevy is going to join up with Andretti if they get their formula team.
- 54:32So will this be the turbocharged HHR?
- 54:35Four cylinder or will this be a big ol thumpin LS?
- 54:39It'll probably be closer to the four cylinder turbo.
- 54:42But will it be a Chevy power plant or a Cadillac power plant?
- 54:45Cause Cadillac seems to be at the front end of racing for GM right now.
- 54:48I mean, it'll be Cadillac.
- 54:49They're so strong in the other racing.
- 54:52Course it's going to be.
- 54:53Cadillac is GM's racing division.
- 54:55Apparently it'd be one thing.
- 54:57If this was the old days of formula one, where you could bring anything to the
- 55:00party, four cylinder turbo V8 V10 flat 12, like Ferrari used to have in the
- 55:05eighties, you know, stuff like that.
- 55:06Yes.
- 55:07If they could pick up a Chevy V8 out of an IndyCar and say, yeah, we got
- 55:11a power plant for days because they can get those like a dime a dozen and
- 55:14drop it into a formula one chassis.
- 55:17Sure.
- 55:17They got to engineer this from scratch.
- 55:19Maybe the quad four is the answer, right?
- 55:21We know it can make in a billion horsepower and a cobalt and an HHR.
- 55:24So maybe that's the pedigree of the future General Motors Formula One.
- 55:28It's not going to be a Northstar motor?
- 55:30No, definitely not.
- 55:31No cylinder deactivation.
- 55:33Trash.
- 55:34Moving on to JDM and Asian car news.
- 55:38Toyota, again, the hotness.
- 55:42Says hybrid and a man in the Supra.
- 55:46Can you believe it?
- 55:47Go for it.
- 55:48Damn, right.
- 55:49It's about time Make that money, but is it about time or is this just old news?
- 55:55Because Honda did this with the CR Z.
- 55:58It was the first manual hybrid, if you check the history books there.
- 56:02I'm sure there must be differences in how the clutch works too between them.
- 56:07Toyota's got a plan to bring a hybrid to the manuals.
- 56:11Or the manuals to the hybrids.
- 56:13This is interesting.
- 56:14I want to stay on top of this story.
- 56:15I want to see where this goes.
- 56:17Would be really curious to drive one for sure.
- 56:20I can see this partnering probably with the small motor, the four cylinder turbo
- 56:24that they already had with the manual.
- 56:26So it's kind of the next logical conclusion to do that.
- 56:28I like the fact that.
- 56:30If they go in that direction, it's another step away from BMW for the
- 56:36Supra Toyota sort of making the SRA its own, even though it's still
- 56:40gonna have the Z four chassis.
- 56:41Next up, the Supra will be a station wagon, just like the Z four touring
- 56:45goop or whatever they're calling it.
- 56:46But hey, you know, we'll, we'll leave that where it is.
- 56:48Good for Toyota, again, the hotness, they are pushing the
- 56:51boundaries of what is possible.
- 56:53So in other Toyota news, apparently they've gotten the green light from
- 56:57the state of California to begin selling hydrogen electric semi
- 57:02truck powertrains in an attempt to push those trucks away from diesel.
- 57:07That's scary stuff for Tesla there, isn't it?
- 57:10I think it's a great idea.
- 57:12When is that electric semi coming again?
- 57:14It already came and then it got like towed or something.
- 57:16I remember seeing something recently, like they got delivered.
- 57:19Who took the first orders?
- 57:20Was it like Pepsi or something?
- 57:22It like broke down immediately.
- 57:25Wow.
- 57:25The first load they put on it.
- 57:27Did it get towed by a diesel?
- 57:28That's the best.
- 57:29I don't remember like what the.
- 57:32Failure was, was unfortunately broken down on the side of the
- 57:34road pretty soon after receipt.
- 57:36And they received a letter from Tesla that said, don't call us.
- 57:39We'll call you, but Hey, they got no issues.
- 57:41You know, what's great about this article is it's actually a little bit
- 57:44of foreshadowing for one of our guests that we had on, we had Carrie Weishar
- 57:48on here who actually works for Pactar and some other places where they do.
- 57:54Testing for semis, she's been in the business for a long time.
- 57:57She's worked for Peterbilt and some other big semi companies.
- 58:00And she actually talked about what the future of semis looks like and some
- 58:04of the hybrids and things like that.
- 58:05And her episode is actually available right now for pre release on her website.
- 58:09And that's trophy girl designs.
- 58:12So you can go check it out over there and listen to some really interesting
- 58:15information about the semi industry and also her adventure going to the
- 58:20top of Pike's Peak in a racing semi.
- 58:23Really cool episode to check out.
- 58:24Nod to Mountain Man Dan for co hosting that episode with me.
- 58:28You know, really excited to kind of keep the pulse on what's going
- 58:30on in the big truck world as well.
- 58:33Just remember that.
- 58:34Tesla's not the only one making changes out there.
- 58:37If you're a Canadian, beware, you could accidentally buy a Hyundai Ioniq 5
- 58:44Essential, which actually, you can't accidentally buy them anymore because
- 58:48only 30 units were Made and sold in 2022.
- 58:53If you did accidentally buy one of these and you haven't realized it
- 58:56yet, you cannot fast charge on them.
- 59:00Apparently, essential means basic, basic, basic.
- 59:04So I don't know if it takes like nine years to charge.
- 59:07It was like five hours.
- 59:09These essential units were actually just like compliance models.
- 59:13So I'm not sure why they were even sold.
- 59:16Like, why would Hyundai do that?
- 59:17It doesn't make sense.
- 59:18Like, we're going to give you something that takes a week to charge.
- 59:21It's unfortunate to spend 40 plus grand on something and then get it
- 59:25home and then realize I don't even think it's retrofitable to the fast
- 59:30charging system for whatever reason.
- 59:32Hyundai should just send all those people new cars and then
- 59:35flatbed the old ones out of there.
- 59:37That's just sad.
- 59:39I have to say, you know, we talked earlier in our showcase about hot family cars.
- 59:44If it's good enough for John Cena, it might be good enough for the rest of us.
- 59:48Would you like to guess what his daily driver is?
- 59:502014 Dodge Dart.
- 59:53Oh, you wish he did.
- 59:54No, I know it's a Honda Civic.
- 59:552020 Civic Type R with a manual.
- 59:58And he's on an interview.
- 59:59I guess he's on a podcast or something.
- 1:00:01And it's a short little moment that they clipped out of it.
- 1:00:04And it's actually a riot.
- 1:00:05He compares it to, I guess he owns a Countach as well.
- 1:00:08And just why the Countach is just complete garbage and the Honda is reliable.
- 1:00:12It gets in it.
- 1:00:13It'll do 140 miles.
- 1:00:14Blah, blah, wink, wink, nudge, nudge, all this kind of stuff.
- 1:00:16And I was just like, you know what?
- 1:00:18Respect props.
- 1:00:20Good for you, John Cena.
- 1:00:21promised earlier that we were going to find a tie to Brad's new Plyber
- 1:00:26truck to a new concept and EV car that Tanya is going to tell us about.
- 1:00:30And what's the relationship between those two?
- 1:00:32All star with no glass.
- 1:00:35The Plyber truck you couldn't see out the back of.
- 1:00:37It had no rear glass.
- 1:00:38So, does that mean it's got a camera?
- 1:00:40That's the thing with the Polestar, their new SUV, that they're claiming
- 1:00:44is gonna have no back window, is because it has 900 cameras on it.
- 1:00:47I'm exaggerating, but I'm assuming.
- 1:00:49Like, a lot of cars have the backup camera, so when you're in reverse
- 1:00:52and you go, Well, wait a second, I don't back up down the road.
- 1:00:55I still need to look out the back glass, which nobody does.
- 1:00:57So, I mean, why do you need a rear glass?
- 1:00:59They'll have the integrated camera in the rearview mirror, so you'd still have
- 1:01:03a rearview mirror, and when you look in it, you'll be seeing what's behind you
- 1:01:07without seeing what's behind you, which I guess is great till that stops working.
- 1:01:11But again, nobody uses their mirrors anyway, so it really doesn't matter why.
- 1:01:15You don't need the glass.
- 1:01:16You don't need the mirror.
- 1:01:17I was about to say, why is this news?
- 1:01:19Contractors and painters have been driving vans without rear glass for decades.
- 1:01:24Why is this news?
- 1:01:26That's great point.
- 1:01:27Although you're right.
- 1:01:28A hundred percent.
- 1:01:29This is race car technology.
- 1:01:31If you follow sports and endurance racing, they don't have rearview mirrors either.
- 1:01:35They use those onboard TVs with cameras facing out the back.
- 1:01:39You can't see out the back of the Ferrari 296 or the Huracan or any of those cars,
- 1:01:45especially with the roll cages and all the other stuff they have to have and
- 1:01:48onboard cameras for TV and all that stuff.
- 1:01:50So they've got cameras out the back and that's how they see
- 1:01:53who's coming up behind them.
- 1:01:53They've been doing that for years.
- 1:01:55I find this interesting in the sense that race car technology
- 1:01:58is finding its way to the street.
- 1:02:00Isn't that how it always works though?
- 1:02:01Doesn't it start in motorsport and then eventually, I mean for most, for
- 1:02:05some things it starts in motorsport and then trickles down to civilian life.
- 1:02:09I've driven a car with this technology, Andrew's C8.
- 1:02:13And I absolutely hated it.
- 1:02:15It was terrible.
- 1:02:16And I would never use it if I had the option.
- 1:02:18I would rather drive with not being able to see and just use my side
- 1:02:22mirrors than to use that crap.
- 1:02:24Here's a name that we haven't heard in a while.
- 1:02:26Sob.
- 1:02:28Sob?
- 1:02:28Ooh.
- 1:02:29Born from jets.
- 1:02:31Apparently, I guess, the company that they became or bought them,
- 1:02:35which there's like 20 people left in it, has been working on a new sob.
- 1:02:43For quite some time now, and they're alleging the, what
- 1:02:47they're calling the Emily GT.
- 1:02:48Saab 90, 000.
- 1:02:50Nevs Emily GT, because Nevs is the name of whatever this company is that
- 1:02:55owns Saab now, or at least the name.
- 1:02:57They've been working on their own EV that is claiming 600 miles of range.
- 1:03:04484 horsepower with honest to goodness torque vectoring, and even a performance
- 1:03:09variant that'll get you 653 horsepower.
- 1:03:13I really like the front.
- 1:03:14It looks like another car.
- 1:03:16The front looks like a Camaro.
- 1:03:17The back, whatever.
- 1:03:19These little spy photos that are like...
- 1:03:21taken in a dark alley closet with no lighting are really hard to this is like
- 1:03:26when DeLorean reimagined did that whole thing and we counted it down and all you
- 1:03:30saw was one third of the quarter panel.
- 1:03:33Yeah, this is the same thing.
- 1:03:35This is annoying.
- 1:03:36It's old now, but the interior Is where I'm stuck and I'm confused and I'm
- 1:03:42not sure the hole in the back of the seat for like, if this was your family
- 1:03:47car, your child to be like kicking you in the back of the head through
- 1:03:50that hole, throwing Cheerios at you.
- 1:03:54Yeah.
- 1:03:54Are those for a massage parlor?
- 1:03:56Are you supposed to put your face through that hole?
- 1:03:58Like, I don't understand.
- 1:04:00It looks like a dentist's office inside of this car.
- 1:04:03You read the.
- 1:04:04Comments below and people are like, Oh my God, that interior is so gorgeous, bleh!
- 1:04:09And I'm like, what are you talking about?
- 1:04:13Sob people are weird anyway, so it fits the sob brand.
- 1:04:16Anybody who likes putting their car key in the floor to start the car, I mean, shit.
- 1:04:22I like the color though, this weird, goes back to the C70 Volvo, burnt copper.
- 1:04:27That color is having a resurgence and I'm okay with it.
- 1:04:30The only thing I like about this car is the front, but it looks like another car.
- 1:04:34We talked about semis earlier.
- 1:04:36I'm just kind of following along with that since we're talking about EVs.
- 1:04:39Diesel vs.
- 1:04:41EV.
- 1:04:41There was actually a recorded part of a congressional hearing that
- 1:04:44you can find as part of a TikTok video that Mountain Man Dan sent us.
- 1:04:49What is disclosed, as Brad would say, a dodoy moment, but also a reality of
- 1:04:56what's happening in that market space?
- 1:04:59Don't look on this guy's face.
- 1:05:01I mean, he gets shut down by this congressman.
- 1:05:05When he says the words, we're going to pass the cost onto the consumer.
- 1:05:09I was immediately like, bruh, we're done.
- 1:05:13I was like, damn your face right now.
- 1:05:15I didn't think they'd catch that part.
- 1:05:17Yeah.
- 1:05:17Right.
- 1:05:18Just this sheer audacity that some of these.
- 1:05:22Corporations have where they're like, pass it on to the consumer.
- 1:05:25We'll make it a subscription plan.
- 1:05:26Pay to play.
- 1:05:27Blah, blah, blah.
- 1:05:29It'll all come out in the wash.
- 1:05:30It's unfortunate because these new semis that they're proposing are three
- 1:05:34times what a standard semi costs.
- 1:05:37Not that a standard semi is cheap.
- 1:05:38So what's the cost of your Amazon Prime membership going to go up to?
- 1:05:42Is it worth all that free shipping now?
- 1:05:46The base model EV semis are starting at the high end of the petrol powered
- 1:05:51ones and they just go up from there.
- 1:05:54Who's going to recoup the cost?
- 1:05:55It's going to come on us.
- 1:05:56And this is where I get the environmental impact.
- 1:06:00Of continuing to run the old trucks, but if the old trucks are still running, can't
- 1:06:05we find ways to retrofit things like we've talked about synthetic fuels or whatever
- 1:06:09diesel the motor itself isn't necessarily as dirty as the stuff we run through it.
- 1:06:15There's arguments to be made.
- 1:06:16We've made them before, but there's got to be ways to maybe make some
- 1:06:20of those older trucks better.
- 1:06:21There's got to be a market there for people to develop parts and it's not.
- 1:06:25Yeah.
- 1:06:26Passing the cost onto all of us as consumers and making Pepsi
- 1:06:30or Amazon or whoever, like we've been talking about, buy all new
- 1:06:33trucks at three times their value.
- 1:06:35I think it's sad.
- 1:06:36And I think more people need to understand what's going on.
- 1:06:39Not just those of us that are in the car community, talk to your fellow civilians.
- 1:06:45And explain to them in simple terms.
- 1:06:46Maybe show them this video, get them to understand what's going
- 1:06:49on and what's being discussed.
- 1:06:51Sometimes I wish we spent more time watching C SPAN than CBS,
- 1:06:55Paramount Prime, get in touch with what's going on behind the scenes.
- 1:06:58Well, I don't know if this guy just got ripped off, if it really costs that much.
- 1:07:04It's another article from The Drive, that's what it is.
- 1:07:07I think we do know that when an EV is involved in an accident, the
- 1:07:13repair costs seem to be generally higher than your traditional...
- 1:07:20Ice powered vehicle.
- 1:07:22Which is why all our insurance rates went up, because they're
- 1:07:24passing on the savings.
- 1:07:26I love paying for other people's stupidity, but anyway.
- 1:07:29So this Rivian owner got rear ended, damaged the rear bumper.
- 1:07:33From the picture, actually, it doesn't even look like it's that
- 1:07:35badly damaged, but apparently it was 42, 000 worth of repairs.
- 1:07:40Where?
- 1:07:40Majority of its labor hours, because the shop literally took the
- 1:07:44entire rear of the vehicle apart and rebuilt the thing, basically.
- 1:07:48Which...
- 1:07:49Is part of the, did this guy get scammed or something because there
- 1:07:53was another person that said that they were involved in a similar accident and
- 1:07:56it cost them less than half of that.
- 1:07:58They paid 14, 000.
- 1:08:02For a pickup truck, for a rear bumper, they'd be like, I'm gonna go down
- 1:08:05to the junkyard and get one for 500.
- 1:08:07But for 42, 000, he could have bought any of those cars off our top list.
- 1:08:11What was that first list of?
- 1:08:13300 horsepower cars, that's right.
- 1:08:15300 horsepower cars?
- 1:08:17So, Tanya, does this change your mind about the Rivian?
- 1:08:20Do you want one still?
- 1:08:21I mean, I don't.
- 1:08:22I mean, I know you don't want one, but.
- 1:08:24Yes, yes.
- 1:08:26You like.
- 1:08:27But I don't think it's unique to Rivian necessarily because your
- 1:08:31Tesla go gets, gets rear ended.
- 1:08:32It ain't going to cost you 300 to fix.
- 1:08:36It's not going to be Toyota Corolla.
- 1:08:38Or Honda repair charges and you'll be out of a car for months, but part of this
- 1:08:43could be volume to take to Eric's point.
- 1:08:45You know, if one of us is in Iraq, we can go down to the junkyard
- 1:08:48and get a replacement part or something because there's so many
- 1:08:51more of those vehicles around.
- 1:08:54How many are on the road right now?
- 1:08:55I mean, I see them all the time, but that's just it.
- 1:08:57It's the barrier to entry.
- 1:08:58Right?
- 1:08:58And so obviously, we're not privy to their profit margins and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:09:03But if you're doing the math, 42, 000 for a repair bill,
- 1:09:07whether your insurance company is canceling you after that or not.
- 1:09:10I'd rather buy an F 150, gas guzzling, EcoBoost, whatever,
- 1:09:16than deal with this nonsense.
- 1:09:17Because at least if something happens, I can go to Ford, or I can go to the
- 1:09:22junkyard, or I can get the part after market, because it is the best selling car
- 1:09:26on the planet, even though it's a truck.
- 1:09:28But the point is, if Rivian reduced the cost, and it wasn't a 100, 000
- 1:09:33pickup, Maybe more people would buy them if it was a 30, 000 pickup,
- 1:09:38it'd be something different.
- 1:09:39There'd be more volume.
- 1:09:40Right?
- 1:09:40So they're playing this game and I have seen more Rivians on the
- 1:09:44road and I'm starting to actually dislike them in the beginning.
- 1:09:47I liked them because they were so niche and so different.
- 1:09:50But the more I see them, I'm just like, Oh, Oh, you have an R one T or you have
- 1:09:54the R one S I've seen the SUVs too.
- 1:09:56And I'm just like, okay, whatever.
- 1:09:59And then the fear that it's going to spontaneously combust.
- 1:10:01And who's paying for that?
- 1:10:03That's not unique to Rivian.
- 1:10:05It's not, but it's very expensive.
- 1:10:07And is Rivian going to give you a new truck when it burns to the ground?
- 1:10:10That's the thing that we haven't heard about these things either.
- 1:10:13And again, say in this case, this guy wasn't rear ended, he was
- 1:10:17front ended, potentially deadlier accident, but then it burned.
- 1:10:21Does it matter besides your hit anymore in EVs when you're sitting on top of it?
- 1:10:25In my truck, I sit on top of the fuel tank.
- 1:10:28That was any different.
- 1:10:29I don't sit on my fuel tank.
- 1:10:31No, my passengers sit on my fuel tank.
- 1:10:33It's in the back.
- 1:10:34Yeah, I mean, it's down the center of the cabin though.
- 1:10:37Because generally, when you're rear ended, your gas tank doesn't absorb the impact
- 1:10:44and crack open and then a match get lit.
- 1:10:47and explode under your ass.
- 1:10:49Well, I would like to think that with the electric vehicles, they're
- 1:10:53designed to where the battery does not take the impact of an accident.
- 1:10:58They should be, but you have to trust that something so temperamental like
- 1:11:03a lithium battery cell I wouldn't want to be in an accident in one of them.
- 1:11:07Yeah, I don't trust anybody anyway, so well no, but there's a lot more variables
- 1:11:11There's a lot more chemistry involved to tanya's point you crack open the battery
- 1:11:15like an egg There's other things that are happening You suddenly exposed all
- 1:11:19that stuff to oxygen or carbon dioxide or something else or some, you know
- 1:11:22moisture something happens It causes a react gasoline It pours on the ground.
- 1:11:28Yeah, it's bad, but it evaporates as long as you don't expose it to flame
- 1:11:33or spark on a rock or something.
- 1:11:34Yeah.
- 1:11:35I mean, we've seen that too.
- 1:11:37I mean, either has to be at a super high temperature that it auto ignites,
- 1:11:41which probably isn't or there needs to be a flame, whether it's coming from
- 1:11:44a literal flame or a spark, it's still a flame that creates the combustion.
- 1:11:49So.
- 1:11:50This is not unique to Rivian.
- 1:11:51I don't know if that guy got scammed.
- 1:11:53I think he kind of got scammed because it says there are only three certified shops
- 1:11:59in his location to work on the Rivian.
- 1:12:01So I, I feel like there's some collusion here.
- 1:12:04I mean, that doesn't sound absurd because to your earlier point,
- 1:12:07they make like three of them.
- 1:12:08So there's not volumes.
- 1:12:09You're not going to have a dealership on every street corner or service
- 1:12:13center that can fix these things.
- 1:12:15And if it wasn't a Rivian certified place, it might be Like in the contracting world,
- 1:12:19it might be one of those FU numbers.
- 1:12:21They threw it out there and they went, okay, well, we got to get it fixed.
- 1:12:24So that's what we're going to pay.
- 1:12:25And those guys are laughing all the way to the bank because they look
- 1:12:27at the complexity of the job and they make the quote really high.
- 1:12:31You got no choice, right?
- 1:12:32It is what it is.
- 1:12:33If it was me, I would have just left the bumper messed
- 1:12:35up and pocketed the 40 grand.
- 1:12:37That's how you do it with your Ford.
- 1:12:38Think I'd want to know that nothing was compromised around the batteries.
- 1:12:42But how do you do that without some sort of x ray vision?
- 1:12:45But that's why they took the car apart.
- 1:12:46Yeah, they took the entire thing apart.
- 1:12:48Are they going to have it certified by Rivian that this will not
- 1:12:52spontaneously combust as a result of this accident and the work that was done?
- 1:12:55It is under warranty.
- 1:12:57Who's taking the liability for this?
- 1:12:59Pass on the consumer, we already established that.
- 1:13:02Cause this brings me to, I used to watch the TV show Gas Monkey Garage,
- 1:13:07and they took on the challenge of rebuilding a totaled Ferrari F40.
- 1:13:13They went through so much painstaking work, and they even had to have
- 1:13:17the chassis recertified by Ferrari.
- 1:13:20Before they could sell it for the, you know, the amount of money
- 1:13:23they were trying to sell it for.
- 1:13:24I'm wondering if something similar has to happen with this, like if the shop
- 1:13:29is going to certify or Rivian is going to certify, yes, that the vehicle is
- 1:13:32sound now, because somebody is going to take on the liability for if this
- 1:13:36thing actually does blow up or still compromised, who's signing off on
- 1:13:40this saying, yeah, it's good to go.
- 1:13:42I'll just say this.
- 1:13:43Cause I saw a 2006 ish Tahoe Z71, like we were talking about earlier,
- 1:13:49going down the road the other day.
- 1:13:51And I, and by going down the road, I mean, almost sideways.
- 1:13:53Cause it was that severe crab walk.
- 1:13:55Cause the frame was bent.
- 1:13:56If you see a Rivian doing that, just pull over, just stop driving and wait for the
- 1:14:02mushroom cloud, because that is not good.
- 1:14:07And that's just it.
- 1:14:08That's the other thing that I worry about is when you buy a truck, I mean,
- 1:14:11we're not talking square bodies here, although they are still on the road,
- 1:14:14but a lot of people do keep their trucks for a very, very long time.
- 1:14:17And trucks are used and abused.
- 1:14:20And these Rivians, where will they be 10 years from now, 20 years from now?
- 1:14:24Will they even be?
- 1:14:25And that's What goes back to my point of we've made them so expensive, so
- 1:14:30expensive to repair, and it's not like it's something collectible.
- 1:14:34It's a pickup truck.
- 1:14:35Are there going to have to be special junkyards for these electric vehicles?
- 1:14:39Hazmat facilities.
- 1:14:41Decommissioned?
- 1:14:41It has to be.
- 1:14:42Are they going to go back to the manufacturer to recycle the parts?
- 1:14:45That's the talk from Volkswagen and other people that there's
- 1:14:48a whole recycling process.
- 1:14:50But nobody's actually gone through those steps yet.
- 1:14:53Everything's still so new.
- 1:14:55There's nothing to recycle.
- 1:14:56And I find it sort of like the same game they play with recycling a cell
- 1:15:00phone and some of the other electronics.
- 1:15:02Like you take it to those places and they end up just dumping it.
- 1:15:05Goes in a hole somewhere.
- 1:15:06It's like, you didn't really recycle anything.
- 1:15:09I don't see it.
- 1:15:10We would be remiss not to talk about Tesla.
- 1:15:14Oh, what's going on in Elon's kingdom this month?
- 1:15:18Tesla's new car making process, it's going to be revolutionary and all this stuff and
- 1:15:23honestly, I guess you'd have to go back and go to their investors day and find out
- 1:15:27the details of what was revealed because this article really doesn't explain
- 1:15:30anything other than some sort of different modular Construction and like, you'll have
- 1:15:36all finished parts done elsewhere that then get put together later, like, okay.
- 1:15:41Since we're talking about things historical, this actually
- 1:15:44harkens back to the 80s.
- 1:15:46It reminds me a lot of how the DMC 12 was built.
- 1:15:50All the body panels, everything were built off the car and
- 1:15:52then it was assembled later.
- 1:15:54But granted they weren't dealing with paint booths and painting and color
- 1:15:57matching and that whole process, they were stamping out stainless steel components
- 1:16:00and then assembling the car later.
- 1:16:03I've heard rumor that Musk is a big fan of some of the earlier generation
- 1:16:08entrepreneurs like DeLorean and Iacocca and others, and he's kind of stealing
- 1:16:12from their playbooks in some respects.
- 1:16:15We've built cars for a long time the same way because of the trial and error in the
- 1:16:22other processes that obviously failed, and we build cars a lot with robots,
- 1:16:27which are very fast and consistent.
- 1:16:29Why deviate from that?
- 1:16:31If you're not building a custom coachwork or some sort of hand built car, why go
- 1:16:35through this process of some guys on a Monday morning pumps out 1400 left
- 1:16:41front red fenders, and then next week when the temperature is different,
- 1:16:45he does the rear quarter panel.
- 1:16:47Another question is whether Tesla can produce multiple vehicle
- 1:16:49models of different sizes and body styles on the same production
- 1:16:53line with the unboxed system.
- 1:16:55What does that even mean?
- 1:16:56So you're going to have like a three coming down with a Y behind it with
- 1:16:59another three within an X within a roadster and somehow like you're
- 1:17:03assembling them all in the end.
- 1:17:06It's one thing if it was like all the same base platform and then like I'm
- 1:17:09sticking different body panels on it, but.
- 1:17:12They're not.
- 1:17:12Yeah, more like the MQ chassis Volkswagen, where it's like, well, a
- 1:17:17Golf's coming down and then a Jetta and then a TT and then whatever else.
- 1:17:21Maybe they are, and I don't realize it.
- 1:17:22I don't know.
- 1:17:23Maybe a Model Y chassis is exactly the same as a Model 3.
- 1:17:26I have a feeling they're very similar.
- 1:17:28If I'm reading this correctly, it looks like they're getting rid of the
- 1:17:30assembly line process, and they're probably literally going to just take
- 1:17:35Stuff out of a box and put it together.
- 1:17:38What does that mean?
- 1:17:39Like I just opened my Lego box and now I'm going to sit here and put
- 1:17:42all my parts together and then I'm going to open my next Lego box.
- 1:17:44How is that more efficient?
- 1:17:45This is Elon Musk.
- 1:17:46That's exactly what it means.
- 1:17:48How is that more efficient than an assembly line dedicated to a Model 3,
- 1:17:52to a I guess because you don't have to have separate assembly lines for each.
- 1:17:57You know, what it's going to require is less vacation and more work.
- 1:18:01You're definitely not going to be able to work from home.
- 1:18:02And Elon has thoughts on that as he tries to take over the world.
- 1:18:06He has lots of thoughts.
- 1:18:08He's the smartest moron I've ever seen.
- 1:18:09He's a tool.
- 1:18:11He's a 10 millimeter socket.
- 1:18:13Don't offend the 10 millimeter socket like that.
- 1:18:15Well, most of them are lost as well.
- 1:18:17Why can't we lose this one?
- 1:18:18Yeah, Elon Musk is as lost as a 10 millimeter socket.
- 1:18:21You know, what's funny is I listened to something the other day and I
- 1:18:23know there's the whole cancel culture thing, especially NPR and Twitter and.
- 1:18:28Elon and all that stuff.
- 1:18:29We talked about that already, but they played some clip of him talking.
- 1:18:33I literally held my head in my hands and I'm like, who is this
- 1:18:37tool that is talking right now?
- 1:18:39They're like, Oh, that was Elon Musk.
- 1:18:40I was like, Oh my God, seriously.
- 1:18:42Yes.
- 1:18:43He's pushing boundaries.
- 1:18:44He's challenging norms.
- 1:18:46He's looking for solutions where there are no problems.
- 1:18:49The assembly line thing.
- 1:18:50I don't understand.
- 1:18:51It worked for Henry Ford 130 years ago.
- 1:18:55It still works today.
- 1:18:56They've only made the process better.
- 1:18:58I don't see why this boxing process or unboxing, whatever, it'll turn
- 1:19:03into stupid TikTok unboxing videos.
- 1:19:05Yeah, I don't want to put my car together.
- 1:19:07It's not a Super 7.
- 1:19:09It's not a Caterham, right?
- 1:19:10No, it's not an erector set.
- 1:19:12I want my car to be the same color.
- 1:19:14I want it to be gapped correctly.
- 1:19:16I want seals that seal.
- 1:19:17I want a quality piece of equipment.
- 1:19:20Speaking of Elon Musk and saying stupid things.
- 1:19:22The vacation is morally wrong.
- 1:19:24Not that vacation is morally wrong.
- 1:19:26It's that working from home is morally working from home is morally wrong.
- 1:19:30I don't understand what morals have to do with that, but when you're king of
- 1:19:34the world, you can say whatever you want.
- 1:19:36Right.
- 1:19:36I mean, that's, that's where this is.
- 1:19:37My favorite part was Musk said he himself works almost every day, taking
- 1:19:42just two to three days off per year.
- 1:19:45I work seven days a week, but I'm not expecting others to do that.
- 1:19:49He said, cool, bro.
- 1:19:51You work 363 days out of the year.
- 1:19:55Wow.
- 1:19:56You want a fricking gold star?
- 1:19:57If I had a billion dollars in the bank, I would do that too.
- 1:20:00Give me a billion dollars a year and I will work seven days a week
- 1:20:04in an office and work as a hobby.
- 1:20:06At that point, you're not really going to work.
- 1:20:08They say, Oh, you You love what you do and you don't do it for work.
- 1:20:11Of course, when you're filthy rich, when you're rich people,
- 1:20:14thanks, everything is a vacation.
- 1:20:16Everything's a hobby.
- 1:20:17What do you care?
- 1:20:18You like print money.
- 1:20:19I mean, this guy's like one of the richest people on the planet.
- 1:20:22Why do we keep feeding this maniac more money?
- 1:20:25Every freaking rocket he puts up into space explodes or whatever.
- 1:20:28I'm like, come on.
- 1:20:30I mean, I wouldn't even have talked about this and the sole purpose to not give
- 1:20:33this guy more airtime than he deserves.
- 1:20:35But it's Tesla.
- 1:20:37The car is one thing, but the stupid stuff that comes out of his mouth.
- 1:20:40That's the disconnect.
- 1:20:41Do people not put those two things together?
- 1:20:44No.
- 1:20:45How can you ignore that?
- 1:20:46People do it all the time.
- 1:20:47If the president of Ford came down and said something like
- 1:20:50this, people would just, like, their jaws would hit the floor.
- 1:20:53No, they wouldn't.
- 1:20:53They'd go out and they'd rev their F 150 in the driveway and
- 1:20:57they'd go to the grocery store.
- 1:20:59Well, my expectations are...
- 1:21:02Thoroughly lowered.
- 1:21:03Lowered expectations.
- 1:21:05Ooh, he went deep.
- 1:21:07He reached down into his soul for that one.
- 1:21:10That was good.
- 1:21:11My deep soul.
- 1:21:12You channeling your Barry White right there.
- 1:21:14That was good.
- 1:21:15Let's get it on.
- 1:21:18This is one of those moments where you're just not sure what to say.
- 1:21:22I can tell you what to say.
- 1:21:23It's what the fuck.
- 1:21:25This car.
- 1:21:26Instantly made our on cool wall.
- 1:21:29Is this a Vern Troyer car?
- 1:21:30It looks like something that would go for him.
- 1:21:33Ha ha It's the Mini Mii Treadsamp!
- 1:21:38Ha ha Credit where credit is due, it's really well done.
- 1:21:41No.
- 1:21:42Negative credits.
- 1:21:43Take credits away from this.
- 1:21:45It's exceptional.
- 1:21:47It's a micro machine.
- 1:21:48No, it is stupid.
- 1:21:50Okay, folks.
- 1:21:51It's a 76 Beetle.
- 1:21:53That looks like a Camaro Z 28.
- 1:21:56It's really well done.
- 1:21:58It really is.
- 1:21:59It is Stew . It is morally wrong.
- 1:22:03This is what Elon Musk was talking about, . I love one of
- 1:22:07the comments in the comment block.
- 1:22:09It says, okay, you get one car.
- 1:22:12This for Pontiac Aztec.
- 1:22:17Wow.
- 1:22:18This is genius.
- 1:22:19Again, it's up on our own cool wall.
- 1:22:21You could check it out.
- 1:22:22You could vote for it.
- 1:22:23That's all I got to say about that.
- 1:22:25It hurts.
- 1:22:26It's so bad.
- 1:22:28It hurts to look at.
- 1:22:29It makes me uncomfortable.
- 1:22:31It's so good.
- 1:22:32A Camaro makes me uncomfortable anyway, but this, whatever it is,
- 1:22:37makes me uncomfortable to look at it.
- 1:22:39You remember the 3d viewfinders we had as a kid and you put in the little disc
- 1:22:43and you pull the arm, it's what a Camaro would look like through a viewfinder
- 1:22:46because it's always sort of distorted.
- 1:22:49It's a picture.
- 1:22:50On a Windows 95 computer, where it's a regular Camaro, but you do stretch to fit.
- 1:22:59It's designed for an 800 by 600 screen.
- 1:23:02It is trash.
- 1:23:04What else is trash?
- 1:23:05Again, another trailer for the Gran Turismo movie.
- 1:23:09Have we not learned our lessons yet?
- 1:23:11All I have to say.
- 1:23:14This isn't a movie about the video game, this is a movie based on apparently a true
- 1:23:19story of somebody who entered those Gran Turismo driving experience challenge to
- 1:23:26find the next great driver or something.
- 1:23:28And like, that's what this movie is apparently chronicling.
- 1:23:31So it's not like it's some weird storyline of the video game itself.
- 1:23:36It's that like, there is this real race car driver, that was a kid who
- 1:23:40was so good at playing Gran Turismo video game that he actually got a
- 1:23:44ride as a professional race car driver now out of this Gran Turismo Academy.
- 1:23:49And now he's home playing Fortnite, eating Cheetos and drinking Red Bull.
- 1:23:54No, he's not.
- 1:23:54He's still a race car driver.
- 1:23:56Where?
- 1:23:57Nobody's heard of him.
- 1:23:58What series?
- 1:24:00Brazil driving Chevy Cruzes.
- 1:24:02I mean, what he's not in formula one or sports car or anything.
- 1:24:05No, he's in Toyota racing series, FIA F3, British GT championship,
- 1:24:11different endurances, GT four, 24 hours of this, that, and the other Dubai.
- 1:24:16I think that was maybe like the first race after the Academy or something.
- 1:24:20Yes.
- 1:24:20He's achieved more than probably most of us will have ever done,
- 1:24:23but do they race at Maple Valley?
- 1:24:28I mean, I'm not saying this is going to be a great movie.
- 1:24:31I'm also just saying that it's not some weird video game movie.
- 1:24:35It's a movie that happens to have video game in it.
- 1:24:39It's not like Doom or whatever other trash you compared it to.
- 1:24:43What was the other one?
- 1:24:44The Need for Speed movie?
- 1:24:45Oh, that was terrible.
- 1:24:46Yeah, that was really bad.
- 1:24:48This is more like a docu.
- 1:24:50The Gran Turismo sort of takes the center stage on that, and then you
- 1:24:54immediately go into this bias against it.
- 1:24:57And that's what I'm trying to highlight here.
- 1:24:58It's like, it could have been truth in 24, but then maybe that's
- 1:25:02not going to pull the people.
- 1:25:03And so it's this weird game of marketing.
- 1:25:06And then when people get there, like, Oh, this documentary is boring.
- 1:25:09But the minute it steps away from being a documentary.
- 1:25:13I don't think we can make it a documentary.
- 1:25:14No, it's a dramatization.
- 1:25:16Even though he's been a professional race car driver since 2011 and
- 1:25:20even to today, he's still active.
- 1:25:22He's not a Max Verstappen.
- 1:25:24He's not a Michael Schumacher.
- 1:25:25So it's not going to be interesting to be a documentary, right?
- 1:25:29Like he's had some good finishes in different series, but it's
- 1:25:33also not earth shattering, right?
- 1:25:35Yeah.
- 1:25:36So it's a challenge.
- 1:25:37I guess we'll have to stay on top of it, see what happens when it comes out.
- 1:25:40I'm not saying I'm not going to watch it.
- 1:25:42Not going to pay money for it.
- 1:25:43Yeah.
- 1:25:44I'm definitely going to review it with Steve and Izzy.
- 1:25:46I mean, that's all I'm saying about that.
- 1:25:48Right.
- 1:25:48So it's sort of like, I'm trying to keep my expectations lowered in this case.
- 1:25:53Cause I don't.
- 1:25:54want to get into the hype machine.
- 1:25:56Who knows?
- 1:25:57Maybe it'll be interesting.
- 1:25:58Maybe it'll inspire other people to get off the couch and get
- 1:26:01behind the wheel of a car.
- 1:26:02If that is the moral of the story, that's excellent.
- 1:26:05I only issue with the storyline and it's based on a true story.
- 1:26:09So fine.
- 1:26:10I feel like it's one of those one in however many thousands of these kids
- 1:26:13were like, yeah, this Academy that it's like, the odds of someone who's
- 1:26:17never driven a car before they play the video game and suddenly they get
- 1:26:20in a seat and they can win a race.
- 1:26:21I don't know.
- 1:26:22I just have a hard time believing there's such a disconnect between, I
- 1:26:25don't care how good your simulator is.
- 1:26:27I don't know.
- 1:26:28Maybe if your simulator is like a hundred grand, it could be good
- 1:26:31enough, but I don't know that Gran Turismo, the video game is good enough.
- 1:26:36Then like, You're translating into real world driving now, and so he could just
- 1:26:43be raw talent of a person that had he came up through carding or something like that.
- 1:26:49Like, he could have gotten to the same place.
- 1:26:51So it's really less to do about the video game because clearly.
- 1:26:54Thousands of other people didn't make it.
- 1:26:56And even there in the races that he won in the academy, he's racing
- 1:27:00against other, let's say non drivers.
- 1:27:02So you're the best of the worst.
- 1:27:04Yeah.
- 1:27:04I don't know how all that worked, but and if you've got a hundred grand
- 1:27:07to spend on a simulator, get out of your house and just go buy a Miata.
- 1:27:12You're going to have more fun.
- 1:27:14That's the point of a lot of this stuff.
- 1:27:16Right.
- 1:27:16Geez Louise, 100, 000 rig.
- 1:27:18Well, I'm making up another No, you're not wrong because
- 1:27:21there are, I've looked at them.
- 1:27:23Some of these sim rigs are 80, 000 plus dollars by the time you're done.
- 1:27:28They got the gyroscoping, this and that, and the shock absorbers.
- 1:27:31Buy a car.
- 1:27:32You can buy a Miata.
- 1:27:34You could buy a race prepped Miata for less than 30, 000, turn key with
- 1:27:38a logbook, and go to the track, and you'll have money left over for YEARS
- 1:27:43because Miatas cost nothing to run.
- 1:27:45And you're gonna realize on lap two, your video game has nothing to do with reality.
- 1:27:50As good as it is to your point, Tanya.
- 1:27:52If you're spending that kind of money, get off the couch and just go drive.
- 1:27:57We've talked about rental cars before.
- 1:27:59We know that Hertz was going into a deal with Tesla in the past and there's
- 1:28:03been other movement for EVs and why I bring this up because amongst my Camp
- 1:28:09Lejeune, AARP and other spam mail that I am constantly wading through every day.
- 1:28:15Every once in a while, there's a golden nugget in the pile of turds.
- 1:28:19And Avis sent me a promotion to entice me to come rent an electric vehicle next
- 1:28:25time I need alternate transportation.
- 1:28:28And what do they show me?
- 1:28:29Cover of this ad saving me up to 10%.
- 1:28:32It's Chevy Bolt.
- 1:28:33Yeah, I will take the base model Corolla.
- 1:28:36Thank you very much.
- 1:28:37I watch a lot of Hulu and they have, there's a lot of
- 1:28:39Hertz commercials on there.
- 1:28:41And recently it's been Tom Brady trying to get a rental car, whatever, how easy
- 1:28:45it is to get a rental car at Hertz.
- 1:28:46The first ones were of him stepping into a Tesla, you know, at the end of
- 1:28:51the commercial, but the most recent ones are him getting into a Polestar.
- 1:28:55I don't know if anybody picked up on that.
- 1:28:57I haven't seen that one yet.
- 1:28:58Is it all the same leading up to that moment?
- 1:29:00No, no.
- 1:29:01So it's, the first ones are him.
- 1:29:04The Tesla ones are like, got annoying after a while.
- 1:29:06Cause he's always like, come on.
- 1:29:08Yeah.
- 1:29:08He's doing menial tasks.
- 1:29:10It's like, like he's, he's acting like an impatient jerk.
- 1:29:12Yeah.
- 1:29:13And then he gets to the rental car place and was like, let's go.
- 1:29:16Let's go.
- 1:29:18And he gets to the car, it's like, Let's go.
- 1:29:20Let's go, man.
- 1:29:22Yeah.
- 1:29:23Yeah.
- 1:29:23So, so the, the one with the Polestar, he's actually doing an interview
- 1:29:27talking about how he always just wants to, let's go, but he can't.
- 1:29:31And then the interviewer is like, well, Tom, we've got something for you here.
- 1:29:35You're gonna get to go wherever you want, do whatever you wanna do.
- 1:29:39And they spin some stupid wheel and like, where are you going, Tom?
- 1:29:42You're taking an EV and you're going to X, y, Z place.
- 1:29:46And then they put 'em in a white polestar.
- 1:29:48That was like, Oh, I'm sure Elon likes this commercial.
- 1:29:51Meanwhile, Gronkowski is doing commercials with horses.
- 1:29:54Yo soy Fiesta.
- 1:29:56Exactly.
- 1:29:58My choice in rental car is solely based on price.
- 1:30:01So if you're going to offer me an EV at the same price as a compact.
- 1:30:06Or maybe a subcompact, then I don't care.
- 1:30:08Sure.
- 1:30:09As long as I'm somewhere where there's a charging infrastructure and I'm not like
- 1:30:12driving into the mountains and the boons where I know there's not going to be.
- 1:30:16But if I was in a city somewhere that had the infrastructure and
- 1:30:19you're giving it to me at the same price as an ICE, I don't care.
- 1:30:23But I'm not going to pay extra.
- 1:30:24And if you offer me a Chrysler 300 for the same price, I'm going to take that.
- 1:30:27That used to be my go to free upgrade.
- 1:30:30You want a Chrysler 300?
- 1:30:31We got like six of them, sure.
- 1:30:33Whatever.
- 1:30:33Let me, let me upgrade.
- 1:30:35Upgrade.
- 1:30:35But then again, like, what is the insurance cost at the rental car on these?
- 1:30:39What if it spontaneously combusts?
- 1:30:42If you don't own an electric vehicle, is your insurance company, are you going to
- 1:30:45be able to just say, Oh, I want to use my own insurance for this electric vehicle?
- 1:30:48How does all that work?
- 1:30:50It's a good question.
- 1:30:51Well, you know what else is a good question?
- 1:30:54And it really is rich people thangs.
- 1:30:56I don't understand this article.
- 1:30:58It was written really poorly.
- 1:31:02No flow, disjointed thoughts, zero, like, reasoning, descriptions.
- 1:31:08It goes right in line with, basically, photo needs no caption.
- 1:31:12I mean, the summary here is Alyssa Milano, who's the boss, and many other things.
- 1:31:18She apparently owned a Volkswagen, and she's had quite the journey
- 1:31:21from her Volkswagen to her Tesla.
- 1:31:23From Tesla to Volkswagen.
- 1:31:25There was controversy when she made the switch, because Volkswagen
- 1:31:29was in fact founded by Hitler.
- 1:31:30But that's what I don't understand.
- 1:31:32None of this flows, because it was like, there's this controversy.
- 1:31:35Because Volkswagen was founded by Hitler, but then she criticized the
- 1:31:39car manufacturer, which now suddenly we're not talking about Volkswagen,
- 1:31:41we're talking about criticizing Tesla.
- 1:31:43And then Volkswagen threatened to sue her, and then Tesla's gonna sue her.
- 1:31:49And I'm like, what are we even talking about?
- 1:31:50First of all, is this the ID Volkswagen?
- 1:31:53Or is it like a fucking Atlas?
- 1:31:56Or is it a Mark IV?
- 1:31:57Like, I don't even know what Volkswagen she has that caught on fire.
- 1:32:01Now, if you keep reading, if it was an EV, it's not some oh my god, another EV
- 1:32:06like spontaneously combusted, I guess what they found out, maybe, I don't
- 1:32:10even know, are there facts that have been checked here, is there legitimate
- 1:32:13sources, I can't tell, but apparently someone left a bucket of diesel and lit
- 1:32:17that shit underneath her car and arsoned, is why her Volkswagen is so messed up,
- 1:32:23and apparently they wrote, F you Elon hater, Did she piss somebody off with
- 1:32:28whatever her comments against Tesla were?
- 1:32:30I don't know.
- 1:32:31Is any of this true?
- 1:32:32Who cares?
- 1:32:32Oh my god, this is all bullshit.
- 1:32:35It has to be.
- 1:32:36Three individuals wearing red hats were seen running away from the scene.
- 1:32:41Did you like them?
- 1:32:42Fleeing.
- 1:32:43In a pickup truck with fake nuts.
- 1:32:46This must have been written by ChatGPT.
- 1:32:50Nothing makes sense.
- 1:32:51I'm like, I tried to scroll up.
- 1:32:52Is there a date on this?
- 1:32:53Like, was this April Fool's?
- 1:32:56I'm trying to see the name of the publication, but I can't because
- 1:32:59of all the fucking advertisements.
- 1:33:01I don't even know if this is this?
- 1:33:05What is this?
- 1:33:06Like, I don't even understand this was like added malware on my computer.
- 1:33:10Probably by opening this link,
- 1:33:14whoever this in the person, Chaudhry, Bader, he's a small
- 1:33:20business owner and blogger.
- 1:33:23Just run your antivirus after you open that book.
- 1:33:27Online tabloid is what it is.
- 1:33:29It's terrible.
- 1:33:30Well, if that wasn't bad enough, we still have to go south and
- 1:33:34talk about alligators and beer.
- 1:33:51Florida beer!
- 1:33:53So this Florida People article is just stupidity at its absolute
- 1:33:59finest and could happen anywhere.
- 1:34:01And it's worth watching this video because this was so...
- 1:34:06avoidable.
- 1:34:08And then the poor person whose Tesla was catching all of this with the cameras
- 1:34:13that were recording was innocent.
- 1:34:16And the video is taken from this poor Tesla's vantage point.
- 1:34:21So dumb on so many levels, inability to zipper merge, impatience, not paying
- 1:34:27attention, distracted driving, raging.
- 1:34:30to rear end two cars.
- 1:34:33And not like you rear end one that rear ends the other.
- 1:34:35No, you've like simultaneously managed to rear end two cars at once.
- 1:34:42And it's almost like the second Tesla that's doing the rear ending
- 1:34:45was like accelerating through it.
- 1:34:47Like the person ever hit the brakes.
- 1:34:50That's Tesla on Tesla crime right there.
- 1:34:52I feel bad for the white Tesla.
- 1:34:54It did nothing wrong, except be present.
- 1:34:57What a mess.
- 1:34:58But also, I liked the Lexus or whatever it was.
- 1:35:00I was like, okay, first of all Try to duck out of the way.
- 1:35:03If you're gonna swerve off the shoulder Just swerve.
- 1:35:06Like, get the hell onto the shoulder, not like Stay like a quarter on
- 1:35:11in lane because you wouldn't have gotten rear ended and she would have
- 1:35:14plowed straight into the other Tesla.
- 1:35:15How much does this crash cost?
- 1:35:17That's a hundred thousand dollars of damage done right there.
- 1:35:19Those are total probably a hundred percent.
- 1:35:22I mean, the white one's probably totaled the front end collision.
- 1:35:25The airbags went off for sure.
- 1:35:27Yeah.
- 1:35:27They're both of them.
- 1:35:28The red one too, probably the front popped open.
- 1:35:31Whoever that was, a lot of clothes in that front.
- 1:35:33Now I noticed she was living in her car.
- 1:35:36She couldn't afford a house anymore.
- 1:35:37She's living in her car.
- 1:35:39But anyway, not really funny.
- 1:35:41More public service announcement, but it did happen in Florida.
- 1:35:44Now this next one.
- 1:35:47Also, really isn't that funny, but in Colorado, the title of
- 1:35:51this is the goal of some people.
- 1:35:53I don't even know if that's the right thing to say, but don't drink
- 1:35:56and drive always at public service.
- 1:35:58Now, please don't drive under the influence of any type of substance
- 1:36:03suspected DUI driver leaps from car.
- 1:36:06Implies the dog was driving Fido is the one responsible for the car
- 1:36:13accident supposed to be here dog ate his homework and drove him to school.
- 1:36:18I mean, yeah, you know, and he ran he fled.
- 1:36:23And guess how far he got?
- 1:36:24Not very far.
- 1:36:2620 yards.
- 1:36:30He made it two first downs and then was caught.
- 1:36:33He sucks.
- 1:36:34This guy cannot run for shit.
- 1:36:37I wonder if it was a straight line he was running in.
- 1:36:39In fairness, he didn't have a collision, but he was driving enough.
- 1:36:44Under the influence, the dog was responsible.
- 1:36:46Sorry.
- 1:36:47The dog that he allowed to drive the car was not well equipped.
- 1:36:52Just like cats.
- 1:36:53No opposable thumbs.
- 1:36:55Did the dog have his learner's permit?
- 1:36:58You know, you should have your dog taken away from you.
- 1:37:01I mean, that's protecting the dog at that point.
- 1:37:03I mean, I'm sure there's somebody in PETA who's like this man endangered the dog.
- 1:37:07100 percent dogs are not supposed to operate heavy machinery.
- 1:37:11Wow.
- 1:37:12I'm gonna.
- 1:37:13Venture a guess that a dispensary was involved at some point.
- 1:37:17It's time we go behind the pit wall.
- 1:37:26This first one confuses me, guys.
- 1:37:27What the podium, there is a Netherlands flag under which
- 1:37:33Charles Leclerc is standing.
- 1:37:35And Max Verstappen is standing on the third place podium with the
- 1:37:39name Charles Leclerc under him.
- 1:37:41Underneath the Monaco flag, that is not correct.
- 1:37:44So somehow the two of them stood on each other's podium.
- 1:37:48So it's just a little bit amusing, that's all.
- 1:37:50Did you also notice that it says Ferrari under all of them?
- 1:37:53Yes.
- 1:37:57They all drive Ferrari.
- 1:37:58It's a complete win for Ferrari.
- 1:38:00I mean, this whole thing is messed up.
- 1:38:01Wow.
- 1:38:02Good job.
- 1:38:03Good job.
- 1:38:03That's what you paid that formula one subscription for, right?
- 1:38:06The podiums and stuff like the words on them could just be sponsored through that
- 1:38:10because there's like four podiums there.
- 1:38:12Right.
- 1:38:12And they all say Ferrari.
- 1:38:13So it's not like there was a fourth place person.
- 1:38:16Brad Pitt.
- 1:38:17We've talked about him before.
- 1:38:18He's doing that Formula One movie.
- 1:38:19He's working with Lewis Hamilton to bring that to the table.
- 1:38:23I don't know what's going to be more realistic, that, or that Gran Turismo
- 1:38:26movie we were talking about earlier, but they say they're going to put Brad Pitt
- 1:38:30behind the wheel of a Formula One car.
- 1:38:32Yes, he's directing this movie or whatever.
- 1:38:34I think also like it's this is his brain child Hamilton's involved in at
- 1:38:40least a Consulting capacity for now TBD.
- 1:38:43I guess if he gets some sort of a role maybe driving another car or something
- 1:38:47it's a little bit of clickbait because it's like Brad Pitt to drive a Formula
- 1:38:51One car and it's like Not really, because like, yeah, that's right.
- 1:38:56Brad Pitt driving an F1 car from Silverstone onwards.
- 1:39:00He won't be on the racing against any other people on track, and the
- 1:39:04race car he's driving will really be a modified junior F2 or F3 car.
- 1:39:10Mmm.
- 1:39:11So I'm like, you're not really driving a Formula 1 car then.
- 1:39:15He's driving a Formula car.
- 1:39:16Yes, but not a Formula 1 car.
- 1:39:18This whole movie is just a Pet project for Brad Pitt to be
- 1:39:22able to drive a formula car.
- 1:39:23Which I'm sure he could do without doing this movie.
- 1:39:26Maybe.
- 1:39:27I mean, Richard Hammond did it and didn't wreck, so, you know, hey, whatever.
- 1:39:30It's true.
- 1:39:31Which is the moral and the point here.
- 1:39:33Don't forget, he who does his own stunts does his own crashes too.
- 1:39:37We'll see how that plays out.
- 1:39:39Speaking of seeing how things play out, Northern Italy is in a bit of
- 1:39:42chaos, which forced the Imola, formerly known as the San Marino Grand Prix,
- 1:39:47to be cancelled and or postponed.
- 1:39:48That's not what it was called.
- 1:39:50Isn't it some like 15 word name?
- 1:39:52It is now.
- 1:39:53It was San Marino.
- 1:39:54We had this argument once.
- 1:39:55They call it by the region now.
- 1:39:57So it's the La Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
- 1:40:01There was something like the first state something or other, whatever,
- 1:40:05I don't know, there was a whole bunch of names and there were a ton of memes
- 1:40:09about the name being exceptionally long.
- 1:40:11Spaghetti Glinguini Fettuccine Ziti.
- 1:40:14It's TBD what happens, because on the Formula One site it's...
- 1:40:18Listed as postponed in the schedule and not canceled.
- 1:40:21So maybe they probably gonna try and force it in somewhere.
- 1:40:24I think somewhere down the line.
- 1:40:25There was still a canceled race, right?
- 1:40:27Like, they were supposed to be somewhere there.
- 1:40:29They're not going anymore.
- 1:40:30So maybe on 1 of those kind of open weekends, they can re slot it in.
- 1:40:34I guess tbd.
- 1:40:35It'd be nice to see them race there, but obviously if they can't, they can't.
- 1:40:39This weekend is Monaco, so that will be interesting because whoever basically
- 1:40:43is on pole there is going to win the race, so it won't be that exciting.
- 1:40:47Where you qualify is where you finish, that's.
- 1:40:50Pretty much, so it'll be a train and maybe like one person will get to pass
- 1:40:53somebody, but that'll be about it.
- 1:40:54And Miami was two weekends ago and that was really a snooze fest.
- 1:41:03Not even that, it's just the difference in the Red Bulls is just outrageous.
- 1:41:08He passed the Ferrari and the Haas, which is also a Ferrari.
- 1:41:13He was behind them.
- 1:41:14He came out from behind them when the DRS enabled and it was
- 1:41:18like, they were fucking parked.
- 1:41:21How many places did he make up?
- 1:41:23He made up like 10 places, right?
- 1:41:24Or something like that?
- 1:41:25No, that was Azerbaijan, wasn't it?
- 1:41:27I thought it was Miami because he didn't finish.
- 1:41:31Q two.
- 1:41:32They didn't send him out in time.
- 1:41:33Yeah, yeah.
- 1:41:34So he didnt get that.
- 1:41:34He didn't get a lap in Q two.
- 1:41:35So it was basically Sergio's race to lose.
- 1:41:38Yeah.
- 1:41:39And then he lost again.
- 1:41:42The Red Bulls were out ahead, you saw like they were posting like the speeds, the Red
- 1:41:46Bull and then like the speeds of the far, and it was like 10, 15 miles an hour fat.
- 1:41:50Like what the hell?
- 1:41:51What?
- 1:41:52You're a good 10 miles an hour faster.
- 1:41:53There's no way.
- 1:41:54There's no way.
- 1:41:55How is anybody like, I mean, everybody else needs to get their act together.
- 1:41:59Again, you guys are not convincing me to watch Formula One.
- 1:42:02You are all psyched.
- 1:42:03You got to watch it.
- 1:42:03You got to do it.
- 1:42:05It just sounds like bull crap.
- 1:42:07No, I think what Brad's been saying is you should watch Drive to Survive.
- 1:42:11Not gonna happen.
- 1:42:12Not gonna happen.
- 1:42:14I have a confession to make.
- 1:42:15Uh oh.
- 1:42:16You know, is this a safe space?
- 1:42:19Can I speak?
- 1:42:20I did not finish the last season of Drive to Survive.
- 1:42:24Oh, the pot has blackened.
- 1:42:29Soon it will be the kettle.
- 1:42:31And I feel like I don't need to see it because...
- 1:42:35You just watched the season.
- 1:42:36I watched the season.
- 1:42:37I did watch the last season, but I didn't watch the season before it.
- 1:42:40Cause I'm like, I don't need to watch this.
- 1:42:41I literally just watched the season.
- 1:42:43Why do I care?
- 1:42:44I used to be all hot and bothered about seeing the stuff
- 1:42:46going on behind the scenes.
- 1:42:48And I thought it was really cool.
- 1:42:49And now I'm just like...
- 1:42:50I watched it unfold.
- 1:42:51I don't like Red Bull.
- 1:42:53Red Bull's okay.
- 1:42:53I don't like Verstappen.
- 1:42:54No, you like rich energy.
- 1:42:55We already know that.
- 1:42:56I don't like Verstappen.
- 1:42:58I think he's a toolbag.
- 1:42:59It was one thing when Lewis Hamilton was winning, but I thought he
- 1:43:01was a decent enough human being.
- 1:43:04But I don't like for it to happen at all.
- 1:43:06Well, there's also rumor now that Hamilton might be going to Ferrari.
- 1:43:09I'm like, what?
- 1:43:09I did see that.
- 1:43:11I, I, I heard.
- 1:43:12We'll have to see what happens.
- 1:43:14I can't see that happening.
- 1:43:17Is Ferrari that desperate?
- 1:43:18What?
- 1:43:19And I thought that was like a thing with Hamilton.
- 1:43:21He didn't want to be associated with Ferrari because he didn't want
- 1:43:24to be Schumacher's replacement.
- 1:43:25The optics on that look for him.
- 1:43:27He's already broken Schumacher's records.
- 1:43:29He's well ahead.
- 1:43:30He's, he's surpassed Schumacher.
- 1:43:32I think now is the time to do it.
- 1:43:34May, that may have been true before, but now he is his own legend.
- 1:43:38He's not under anybody else's shadow.
- 1:43:41I don't know.
- 1:43:41Maybe I'll feel differently in 10 or 20 years when Formula
- 1:43:44One merges with Formula E.
- 1:43:46It was different growing up with Formula One and characters and the people
- 1:43:50like right now, I, I have a hard time identifying with anybody or really.
- 1:43:54Getting engaged with any of the drivers and that's kind of kept me away.
- 1:43:56And I guess that's the same when we talk about rally, right.
- 1:43:59For you, Brad, as you're kind of learning the system over there.
- 1:44:02So, you know, we're on two ends of that spectrum, but as we wrap out formula
- 1:44:06one news, Tanya, you got a first kind of digital look at the track for Vegas,
- 1:44:10which is coming up in November, right?
- 1:44:13What do you think?
- 1:44:14It looks like Long Beach.
- 1:44:15I fell asleep on the straightaways it was like, Oh, there's Caesar's Palace, what?
- 1:44:20Um.
- 1:44:21It literally looks like Long Beach.
- 1:44:23The straight is so ridiculously long.
- 1:44:25Red Bull is just going to be lapping everybody, I think, because
- 1:44:30they're so much faster straight line that it's going to be...
- 1:44:34Boring.
- 1:44:34Yeah.
- 1:44:34And Brad, you're right.
- 1:44:36Kind of does lay out a little bit like Long Beach in a way.
- 1:44:38And having been to Vegas many times, Tanya, you've been there as well.
- 1:44:43The strip is pretty long.
- 1:44:44There's not a lot of places to kind of turn off.
- 1:44:47So if they're going to build any sort of straightaway, they're going to
- 1:44:49have to use more of the Vegas strip.
- 1:44:51And that's your point.
- 1:44:52It's a long straightaway.
- 1:44:54It's boring.
- 1:44:54And they're going to do that twice.
- 1:44:56Right?
- 1:44:56So you're like, okay, it's not the same configuration as the old Yeah.
- 1:45:00Vegas Grand Prix, which did use some of the city streets.
- 1:45:03We're going to actually talk and cover that more throughout the year.
- 1:45:06There's some episodes coming that talk about the history of Formula
- 1:45:09one in Las Vegas and stuff like that.
- 1:45:11So look forward to that.
- 1:45:12If you tune into the show every week, I'm glad there's another race
- 1:45:15coming, but, you know, honestly, I'd like to see Formula one cars.
- 1:45:19Back at the Glen or something like that, or, you know,
- 1:45:21somewhere else in the States.
- 1:45:23Eric's glad another race is coming, but he doesn't watch and he's not going to watch.
- 1:45:26And he's not going to go either.
- 1:45:28Can any of you afford to go?
- 1:45:29Nobody's going to be able to go to that race.
- 1:45:31If you haven't booked tickets three years ago, it ain't happening.
- 1:45:33Sure.
- 1:45:34Sure.
- 1:45:34Yeah.
- 1:45:34Same with Miami.
- 1:45:35Once those were put on the books, it's impossible for
- 1:45:38us normal human beings to go.
- 1:45:41Where are you going to go?
- 1:45:41Like, what's the point of going to somewhere like Vegas?
- 1:45:44Where are you going to watch the race from?
- 1:45:46The tallest building you can find.
- 1:45:49Are you going to walk down the sidewalk of the Strip to get to another turn?
- 1:45:53No.
- 1:45:55You go to pay for that, what, million dollar VIP package?
- 1:45:58Yeah, you try to get some, some penthouse room in the MGM or
- 1:46:02whatever, the hotel, so you can just.
- 1:46:04See you over everything.
- 1:46:05Yeah, good luck.
- 1:46:06Brad Pitt will be in that room.
- 1:46:08Yeah, when we do the Vegas recap, we'll put that under rich
- 1:46:11people doing rich people things.
- 1:46:12100 percent on that one.
- 1:46:14Well, we'll switch quickly to WRC News.
- 1:46:16Brad, did you watch anything since the last time we got together?
- 1:46:19You know, I haven't had a chance to.
- 1:46:21My family's been sick for the last three weeks and I've
- 1:46:23just been trying to survive.
- 1:46:25No worries.
- 1:46:25Well, I will pick up.
- 1:46:27Where we left off, if you don't mind a quick recap of Croatia and
- 1:46:30Portugal, as we reported last month, unfortunately, Craig Breen was killed
- 1:46:36during an accident before the Croatia rally in testing for the Croatia
- 1:46:40rally, I will say Croatia watching it.
- 1:46:44Was quite sad.
- 1:46:45It was very somber.
- 1:46:46It Red Bull did an okay job of sort of covering.
- 1:46:50I expected more of a tribute to Craig, some of his past exploits, some of the
- 1:46:55cars he used to drive teams he drove for.
- 1:46:57They didn't really go into all that.
- 1:46:59It was really like, what is everybody else doing to honor him?
- 1:47:02You know, maybe that was at the behest of the family and stuff like that.
- 1:47:05I don't know.
- 1:47:06I thought it was cool that Hyundai threw a livery on all the cars.
- 1:47:10It was an Irish flag in honor of Craig.
- 1:47:12I thought the cars look fantastic.
- 1:47:14I think they should kind of play into that maybe a little bit more.
- 1:47:17One of the drivers, the gentleman that replaced him, Danny Sordo is going to
- 1:47:22be running an Irish helmet all year.
- 1:47:25And then he's giving it to Craig's family at the end of
- 1:47:27the year, which is pretty cool.
- 1:47:28It's a spectacular looking helmet.
- 1:47:30It matches the car's liveries and stuff like that.
- 1:47:33So as you move away from that, you could tell all the
- 1:47:35drivers were pretty bummed out.
- 1:47:37The whole just attitude of the race was just watching it.
- 1:47:41I was just like, like, this is depressing.
- 1:47:44People were definitely not at their prime or at their peak.
- 1:47:47Croatia is generally really intense, really high pace, very narrow.
- 1:47:51It's fast.
- 1:47:52It's exciting.
- 1:47:53This one just was not there.
- 1:47:55On Friday, both of Toyota's suffered punctures in the same pothole,
- 1:48:00driving the exact same line.
- 1:48:02In your guy's notes, you should have noted not to put the car there.
- 1:48:05And that took them out on Friday.
- 1:48:07That was a, that was a pain in the butt.
- 1:48:09On Saturday, Terry Neuville wrecked his Hyundai.
- 1:48:12I mean, he slid out, hit the back of the car on a tree, and it snapped the
- 1:48:16car around and crushed the front end.
- 1:48:18And it was so fast, and it was so violent.
- 1:48:20And you're just like, wow, okay, that was cute.
- 1:48:23It was on a very narrow section of track where he really had no choice.
- 1:48:26It was like, hit the tree or go off the cliff.
- 1:48:28And that was that.
- 1:48:30There was an interesting battle between Robin Pera and
- 1:48:32Ogier, the two leading Toyotas.
- 1:48:35They did lead going into Sunday, but Elvin Evans was pretty
- 1:48:37much at the top of the race.
- 1:48:40It was his rally to lose.
- 1:48:42He's been in that position many times before, but then something.
- 1:48:45Catastrophically goes wrong.
- 1:48:46And then there goes his win for the overall of the rally.
- 1:48:50I will say congratulations to Takamoto.
- 1:48:52He didn't wreck.
- 1:48:53So another Toyota came home in one piece.
- 1:48:56That was pretty cool.
- 1:48:58The end result was Elvin Evans, Oittanik, and Esa Pekka Lappi, one, two, three.
- 1:49:03Terry Neuville, they were able to get his car back together enough
- 1:49:07that he scored an extra five bonus points in the power stage, which
- 1:49:10is the last stage of the event.
- 1:49:12Good for him that at least keeps him in contention gives him some
- 1:49:16points since he didn't do that.
- 1:49:17Well, overall, I will say Citroen came to the table to play in Croatia.
- 1:49:22They beat out the leading SCOTA in the WRC2 class.
- 1:49:26It wasn't a ton of coverage on that, but it was actually quite exciting.
- 1:49:29Those guys were going full send.
- 1:49:31In those Citroens and those Skodas.
- 1:49:33And if you watch some of the action, I mean, they were just destroying those cars
- 1:49:37coming off of jumps and stuff because they were just pushing really, really hard.
- 1:49:40And like I said, overall, the whole of Croatia was meh.
- 1:49:44It led into Portugal, not even two weeks later.
- 1:49:47And the big draw in Portugal is what they call the FAF stage, the F A F E.
- 1:49:52It's stage 16.
- 1:49:53It's the one with the jump.
- 1:49:54The one everybody recognizes, they show it in all the rally videos.
- 1:49:58You get massive airtime, couple stories off the ground, flying at full speed.
- 1:50:03One of the most famous stages in all of rally.
- 1:50:06Unfortunately, Evans wasn't able to capitalize on his win from Croatia.
- 1:50:10He wrecked the car so bad in Portugal.
- 1:50:14It also caught on fire.
- 1:50:15So he was out starting on Friday and that was the end of his weekend.
- 1:50:19Terry Neuville could not catch a break.
- 1:50:21I chuckled so many times something wrong with the gearbox.
- 1:50:25The car was stuck in third gear and then they took him out for
- 1:50:28a while to try to fix the car.
- 1:50:29They got that fixed and he had zero power.
- 1:50:32His turbo failed.
- 1:50:34The hybrid failed.
- 1:50:35And I'm sitting here going, why?
- 1:50:38father, he was going out and literally doing stages at like 30
- 1:50:42miles an hour, just so he could get points for the championship.
- 1:50:48Didn't he have turbo issues in Mexico?
- 1:50:49Yeah, he had issues.
- 1:50:50He's had issues with the car constantly keeps complaining about it.
- 1:50:53And I, and at first I was like, stop whining.
- 1:50:56You know, you're getting old, you're getting beat by the young guys, but
- 1:50:58he's legitimately having problems.
- 1:51:00The car's falling apart around him, but it was just pathetic.
- 1:51:04And during the The super stage at the end, they put him out first and
- 1:51:08you're just watching everybody else.
- 1:51:09And they're like, this is going to take forever.
- 1:51:12Cause it's like 40 kilometers.
- 1:51:14You can only do like 30 miles an hour.
- 1:51:17It's going to take him an hour to get to the end.
- 1:51:19And it's like, they sent him out first thing in the morning and said, all
- 1:51:22right, Terry, just make it to the end.
- 1:51:23He brought the car home, but it was just laughable.
- 1:51:25It was comical and absolutely ridiculous.
- 1:51:28Oittanic suffered.
- 1:51:30Problems with the Puma.
- 1:51:31He had hybrid issues where he was also down on power, not in the
- 1:51:34same way that Terry Neuville was.
- 1:51:36The end result of the race was Ruv and Para, Danny Sordo, So Esa Pekka
- 1:51:39Lappi taking home two third place podiums in a row, Croatia and Portugal.
- 1:51:45Skoda was back on top in WRC2.
- 1:51:48Then I found a parallel between Rally and Formula One.
- 1:51:52There's this kid, Pierre Louie Lube.
- 1:51:54I don't know if you paid attention to him or not, Brad.
- 1:51:56He is the DeVry of Rally.
- 1:51:59He shows up when he wants, his dad pays for him to drive.
- 1:52:03He wrecks a car.
- 1:52:04He does care.
- 1:52:05He goes home, and they focused a lot on him for some reason in Portugal
- 1:52:09because apparently, I guess maybe that's his favorite or, or whatever.
- 1:52:12It was just laughable.
- 1:52:13Right now, Robin Pera, who is Ogier's teammate at Toyota, he leads the
- 1:52:18overall championship going into the Italian rally at Sardegna.
- 1:52:22And even though Ogier kind of plays when he wants to, he's still
- 1:52:26in the top three right now in terms of points and everything.
- 1:52:28So really interesting to see if Seb takes it to the end and ends up winning,
- 1:52:33despite not putting in all the races.
- 1:52:35Kind of goes to show how the points work in rally.
- 1:52:37Moving right along into sports car and endurance racing.
- 1:52:40I don't have anything to report right now, but I will be reporting
- 1:52:45some in the coming weeks.
- 1:52:47So pay attention to social media, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, et cetera,
- 1:52:50because I will be at the hundredth.
- 1:52:54Anniversary of Le Mans.
- 1:52:55So I will be reporting for France, which also means we won't be having a
- 1:52:59drive through next month because going on vacation, we're all taking a break.
- 1:53:02We need one after three years and 200 and some odd episodes.
- 1:53:05So look forward to the next drive through in July, but there
- 1:53:08will be updates from Le Mans.
- 1:53:10We will be talking all about remote Le Mans, and I'm hoping Brad and
- 1:53:13Tanya catch the race from home or wherever they're going to be.
- 1:53:16And we're going to talk about it a lot more, but it's going to be exciting.
- 1:53:1816 cars in LMP1 or GTP, Porsche, Peugeot, Ferrari, Cadillac.
- 1:53:23And so on down the lines, seeing if they can take on the mighty Toyota.
- 1:53:28So I'm looking forward to being there in person to see that it's a kind of a
- 1:53:31once in a lifetime opportunity in some respects, I just want to remind everybody
- 1:53:35that our motor sports news is brought to us in partnership with the international
- 1:53:38motor racing research center and Watkins Glen, just so you guys know, there

- 1:54:29And really quick, they have a couple of events.
- 1:54:31As we mentioned, they are focusing this year on the Corvette celebrating
- 1:54:34its 70th anniversary alongside of the 75th anniversary of Watkins Glen, the
- 1:54:39hundredth anniversary of Le Mans and the 25th anniversary of the center itself.

- 1:55:50We were there last year.
- 1:55:51We live streamed the whole event.

- 1:56:52Unfortunately, it didn't give any details about where it is.
- 1:56:55Is that before or after the nudist car show that you're going to?
- 1:56:59I think this is before the nudist car show.
- 1:57:02But if you want to go to this on collectorcarguy.
