Gophers Dominate FCS Opponent | Minnesota Golden Gophers Football News
The Gophers crushed Eastern Illinois 59-7 in a statement-opening win, with their punter only kicking once and starters pulled early to avoid injury. Quarterback Drake Lindsey shined with 79% completion, 264 yards, and a TD—now streaking without an interception or pick-six. The running game showed promise, especially freshman TJ Thomas Jr., averaging over seven yards per carry. Special teams stole the show with Javon Tracy’s two punt-return touchdowns and big receiving numbers. Next up: a tougher test against SEC foe Mississippi State.
