Transcript
- 0:02SPEAKER_03: Hello everyone.
- 0:04SPEAKER_03: Welcome back to another great episode of Truth Be Told.
- 0:08SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Mickey, and joining me today is my co-host Bethany.
- 0:11SPEAKER_03: And we are going to be speaking the truth.
- 0:14SPEAKER_03: And how do we do that?
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: By opening up the scriptures.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: We like to take God's word and we like to put it right in our hand, and we like to just get right into the word so that we can share the truth with you all.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: And not only just read the truth and share the truth, but also discuss it and um figure out as we go through life how we can take the truth and actually apply it to our own lives and what we're doing.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Um, with everything going on in the world today, there's a lot of that going on.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: Um, it's really important that we know what the truth is because we live in a world of uncertainty.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: And so I think it's important that we just um teach people how to grasp and grab a hold of God's word and put it to some good use.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: So that's what truth be told truth be told is all about.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: We welcome you all in and um gonna bring on my my co-host Bethany so she can lead us in prayer.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: So, Bethany, welcome in to another great episode.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: Glad you're here.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Excited to be here and excited for our episode today.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Let's pray.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Thank you once again for meeting with us now, for anointing this time that we are able to spend talking about the truth of your word and the truth of you.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: And Lord, may this podcast episode bless those who listen to it and watch it, and we give it to you, Lord, and we thank you for what you will do through it in Jesus' name.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Amen.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: I'm super excited.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: So this episode actually is a milestone for us, and um, we are recording our 10th episode, and I think that's exciting because you know, when you first start, you just don't know if you're gonna be able to make it, you're gonna continue on if it's gonna work out, um, you know, kind of like where the cards are gonna fall.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: So I'm excited that this is our 10th episode.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: We're hitting our first milestone.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: I can't wait till we get to the hundred mark.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: Um, we like to take it 10 at a time, is what I call it.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm super excited that we have um ventured out this far.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: And I'm really excited about what God has actually shown us through the Word and having the opportunity to um openly discuss um the truth that God has given us.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: And it's exciting because there's a lot of platforms out there that we could be listening to, but not a lot of them actually dive right into the Bible and just start dissecting the truth.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: And so I think it's super important um that we stay focused and that we remember how important the truth is because there's people around the world in different countries that can't even have the Bible in their hand or you know, on their possession.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: So I'm thankful that we live in a country where we can still hold the Bible, we can still talk freely about the word of God, and we're not getting persecuted for it.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: We we may be getting persecuted um maybe socially or verbally, but not in a physical realm where some people are actually getting murdered, they're becoming martyrs for Christ.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: And so I'm really thankful for that.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: And I'm glad that we have a platform where we can share the word of God.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: And I love that we get to share it all over.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Anyone can listen from anywhere.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Um, we are on um about 15 different platforms.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: So, um, to all of our listeners, I don't know where you're listening or what platform you're on, but I hope that you'll engage and you'll let us know that you're you're listening and following us, and also share this message with other people.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: We want to get the word out there.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: The the word literally says that we are to go and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: And that's what Bethany and I are trying to do.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: And um we want to do it through truth.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: We want to speak on what is real.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Um, we don't sugarcoat, we don't cover up, we don't manipulate, we don't, we don't shift or change God's word because we want the full effect that God has for us.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: And so we've been talking about um in the last few episodes, we've been talking about prayer.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, we've been talking about how to pray, when to pray, why to pray.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: Um, we've been talking about um God's assurance through his deliverance in prayer, um, how he delivers us through prayer and how he gets glorified with um us just praying to him and um also through praising him.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: And today I know that Bethany has another great message for us today as we continue to talk about prayer.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: We're gonna talk about the importance of God's timing because as we talked about in the last episode, uh we live in a culture, um, a time, an era, I should say, that people want things right now, immediately.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: And so um we need to remember that it isn't God's timing.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: And if we just trust his timing, God will fulfill his promises and he will deliver us.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: And so I'm excited for what Bethany has to share.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: She's got some great scripture that we're gonna dive into.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: So if you have your Bibles, get them out, put them in your hand, um, read along with us and follow.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're glad that you're here and we can't wait to see what Bethany has.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: So, Bethany, you want to get us started?
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Um in Matthew chapter 14.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: The entire chapter is um various experiences that did happen.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Um, and so leading up to the verses that I want to focus on today, we have the experience of John the Baptist being murdered, and we have the experience of Jesus feeding over five thousand people.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: And now let's focus on starting in verse twenty-seven, Matthew fourteen and verse twenty-seven.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: This is after Jesus had fed the five thousand plus, after he had sent the multitude away to go back to what they were doing.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: He went up to a mountain apart to pray.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: And it's now currently the fourth watch of the night.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Um, and we can discuss specifics at a later time.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but let's notice verse 27.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Um going down through verse thirty-six, and I may I will probably pause, um, break that up a bit, but starting in verse twenty-seven.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Verse twenty-eight, and Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Verse twenty-nine, and he said, Come.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: And when Peter was calm down out of the ship, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Verse thirty, but when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: And beginning to sink, he cried saying, Lord, save me.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Peter prayed.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: I believe that's one of, if not the shortest, prayers in the Bible.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Because what is prayer?
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Prayer is asking, prayer is saint giving, prayer is to God.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: And so in verse twenty-seven, then we see that Jesus has come to the disciples after praying himself.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: And we see that they are afraid.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Um, verse twenty-six, I believe it is, tells us that the disciples were afraid when they saw Jesus because they didn't think that he could walk on water, and yet he did.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: And so that's the context of this situation, and so verse twenty-eight.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, Peter.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about Peter in another episode.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: But he was one that I think he would be he would fit in quite nicely today.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Um he yeah.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: And in verse twenty eight you see Peter's response if it be thou, bid me.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: And what does verse twenty nine say?
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: And he said, Come, that's the confidence that Jesus had in his ability to have Peter do his desire.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And I feel greatly impressed that he Jesus is saying that that to us today.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: He's saying come.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: And we don't have to be all, you know, cleaned up or in a certain position before we come to Jesus.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: He's saying, Come.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: And so Peter did that in verse thirty.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Well, in verse sorry, in verse twenty-nine, after Jesus invited him to come, it tells us that Peter did.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: But then in verse thirty, it tells us that Peter saw.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, and how how much is that like today?
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Jesus and God are both saying calm.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: But are we too busy looking at the wind?
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Not necessarily the actual physical wind, but all the problems, all the circumstances, all the negativity around, are we looking at those and choosing choosing to put our faith in what we see rather than in Jesus and God and so now let's look at verse Look at verse thirty again, and then going to verse thirty one.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Verse thirty, but when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid and beginning to sink.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: He cried saying, Lord, save me.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Verse thirty-one.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Notice the timing.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: Immediately Jesus rescued Peter.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Now, yes, there is a physical rescuing.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: And yet, I think it helps us understand that God isn't in the business of rescuing.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: He is in the business of delivering.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Now, again, as we talk about timing, you know, it it's important to remember that God does work on his own timetable, and we may not always understand that, and yet he's continuing to say, Come, come unto me.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Matthew 11, 28.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: That verse is in the midst of Jesus once again talking to his disciples.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: And so that even that should encourage us that Jesus does want us to come, not be all cleaned up or have the right words or anything like that.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Just calm, just be, and he will deliver in his time his way.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: And let's stop.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Let's stop looking at everything around us.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Let's stop insisting that we have to be some way before we come.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: And let's just come.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Um notice as well.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: Starting in verse thirty-two, reading down to verse thirty-six.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Verse thirty-two.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: And when they were coming to the ship, the wind ceased.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Another time for that.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Verse thirty-three.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the son of God.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Verse 34.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Genezaret.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Verse 35.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about and brought unto him all that were diseased.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Verse 36.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment, and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: And there's a lot within those verses for another time, but the whole context of that Matthew 14, how that Peter's experience of walking on water is in the midst of that chapter that should encourage us.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Again, like I said, not necessarily does it have to be physical, storm.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Like wind, rain, hail, all of that.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Jesus rescues amidst anything.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: And there's so much going on in the world today, in our country today, of America.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Individual states.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Cannot thrive.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Christians cannot thrive without God.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: And the Lord has been burdening me that Christians we have to not only survive, but we have to thrive.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: And how do we do that?
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: We come to Jesus.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, we came to Him for salvation.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: But that same power is available to us every day.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: We need it.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Some people who may say, Well, why don't why can't we just survive this?
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Why can't we just figure out some way to survive until eternity and then start living?
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: God's not willing that anyone perishes.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: And so this experience here with Peter strongly encourages that we can come as we are.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Because he knows he knows Satan.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: He knows Satan better than we do.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Because the reality is that God created Lucifer as one of his angels.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: And Lucifer chose to rebel, becoming Satan.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: And so that is why there's so much negativity and evil in the world.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: And yet Jesus and God are saying to Christians, come.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: They're saying to the unsaved, come.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: And there are too many influences today that are contradicting that message of calm.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: And so we need to be lovingly proclaiming the truth.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: That Jesus wants us to come just as we are.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: Again, we don't have to be all cleaned up and all in the right mindset or anything like that.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: We just need to come to Jesus and allow him to set us free.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Allow him to break those chains of the enemy.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: And the Holy Spirit will do a mighty work.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: But it is our responsibility, just as it was Peter's responsibility to come.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: And so, Mickey, do you have any other thoughts on this?
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: Well, this scripture, like you said, it's a lot, but it's a great chapter because there's so much going on with Jesus, you know, being on the earth and um discipling his disciples.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: One thing I, a couple things I want to point out that come to the surface for my mind anyway, is I think it's interesting how they're in the boat and they're afraid.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: All the disciples are afraid.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, they've been with they've been around Jesus for a little while now, and yet they still have all of this fear.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: You know, they have not overcome fear yet because our flesh kind of doesn't allow that sometimes.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: But I find it interesting what Jesus says when he says, be of good cheer.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: And I kind of want to laugh because I'm thinking, I don't know about you, but when the boat is shaken and I'm feeling like I'm gonna get flipped into the ocean, I'm not too cheerful at the moment, probably not, you know.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: You know, because he says, you know, be of good cheer.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: It is I, don't be afraid.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: And the thing that I love about that is, yeah, he's walking on the water, which I'm sure that alone in itself is like, what in the world is that?
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: What's going on here?
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Um, because people just don't get up and walk on water, you know, like what is this?
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: You know, just fathom yourself in that situation.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: And um, Peter being shocked, Peter can't swim, by the way.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: So people that don't know the story, Peter does not know how to swim, but yet is taking a chance on Jesus to step out on that faith.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: And he did, he had faith at first because he's like, Well, if Jesus can walk on water, we all can probably walk on water.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: You know, he's probably thinking God, you know, Jesus turned the river into glass or whatever.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: Um, so he steps out on faith and he starts, you know, because he asks God if he can, you know, walk with him.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: And Jesus says, Well, come on, take a chance, you know.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Um, I've already showed up here on water, you know, telling you not to be afraid.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: So come on out to the water.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: Now, as he's you know walking on the water, he's the wind is whipping all around him.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: And this isn't just like a light breeze or you know, a cool summer breeze.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: This is like boisterous, scary, obnoxious wind.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: And one thing I like about this verse here is when he says he saw the wind.
- 28:49SPEAKER_03: Now nobody can see wind.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: We cannot see actual wind, but we can see the effects of it.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: And when we are talking about today's trouble, sometimes we can't see all of it, but we are seeing the effects from it.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: So we may not understand all of it, but we know all of this stuff is happening around us, and yet we can't see it all.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: We cannot see wind like in the physical realm.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: Um, you can see what wind is doing.
- 29:16SPEAKER_03: It's making the waves crash, it's making the boat, you know, our hairs flying everywhere.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: It's it's causing a ruckus, and we probably, you know, they probably looked all frantic, you know.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: And so this wind whips up, and I think it was a test of faith to see, you know, is Peter gonna keep his eye on me or is he gonna freak out?
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: Well, he freaked out.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: I'd freak out if I was about to be blown away.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: Um, and he starts to sing and he cries out, Lord save me.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: And I love that because it's literally the shortest prayer in the entire Bible, Lord save me.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: And if you're ever in a in a sticky situation, sometimes we think we have to have all the right words.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: All you have to do is say, Lord, save me.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: The guy on the cross, he's like, Lord, you know, take me with you.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: You know, it was real simple.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: He didn't sit there and go, Okay, God, let me explain my whole situation and during this prayer before, you know, I can convince you to take me or save me.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: We don't have to convince God of anything, we just have to ask.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: So I love that that that's the shortest verse.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: But one thing I want to also point out with this, with the wind is going all over, is Peter didn't look at the disciples in the boat and say, Hey, throw me a lifeline.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: Hey, jump in and here and get me.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: Hey, he didn't put his faith in the disciples at all.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: He kept his faith on Jesus.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: He said, Lord, save me.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: He didn't like try to start swimming, he didn't start fighting the water and the wind, or or calling out to all of the other disciples, or begging for, you know, hey, throw me the rope, throw me the net, whatever, get me out of this water.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: He he literally said, Lord, save me, so he knew who to call on.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: If he would have turned around to the boat and said, Hey, save me, he probably would have drowned.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, because he couldn't swim.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: And no, and no, we don't know exactly how far out he was from the boat, but he literally had to put his faith in Jesus because Jesus was the one walking on the water.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: And he knew out of the situation, the only one that probably could save him was Jesus.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: You know, and he he stuck to that faith.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: And even though I love that it says, you know, as he's as he's sinking, Jesus says, Sam, oh, of little faith, and you know, why did you doubt me?
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: You know, and I get it, the wind is whipping up all around you, and you're thinking, oh no, I'm in trouble now.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: I'm out here in the sea.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: The boat's way over there, you know, and this wind is gonna, you know, knock me into the water.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: You're already on the water, you're already standing on the water.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: You know, God's already holding you up.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Sometimes we're being held up by God, and we freak out because of the circumstance that shows up, and we lean into the circumstance and not into God.
- 31:54unknown: Right.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: And that's where we lose the faith.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: And I know the Bible says all we need is a little faith, like of a mustard seed, but when you lose that mustard seed, you don't have any faith.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: So that's what it means by little faith.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: Because some people say, well, don't you only have to have a little faith?
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: You do, but you have to have a little faith.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: You can't doubt it.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: You can't doubt even the littlest of faith.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: You can't have doubt in it because it says, Why are you doubting me?
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Your faith is weak, it's not, it's not real.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: Um, so I love that they're talking about that.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: And then I love that the wind just ceased.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: Like he just like calmed it all down.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Like he gave him a little bit of a test and then he calmed it all down.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: He brought everything back down to a peaceful resolution, you know.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: And um, then they all got on the ship and they all started worshiping him and praising him, and they were claiming him as a son of God because they could not have fathomed anybody else ever performed what he had just performed, what he did.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: Um and so I think it's interesting that you know, as they're you know, go into the land and then um they um I'm trying to look at here.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: Um they go out and then oh, oh, and then oh, and then they're talking about um um his garment being, you know, his his garment.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: Like he is so powerful and so worthy after they claimed him to be God that they were saying, if you just touch his him.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: And we know this for the fact for the woman that was that had the bleeding issue.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: She believed so much just that she knew if she just touched his garment, she'd be healed.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: That's how much faith she had in Jesus.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: And I love this because everyone that touched the garment, they were completely perfectly whole.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: And we forget sometimes that we think we have to go get the toolbox to get fixed.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: Jesus is that toolbox, even the hem of his garment is all it takes.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: And so I think it's important that when we're talking about prayer, going back to where he says, immediately, Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: Sometimes Jesus is gonna do that, he's gonna catch you immediately.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: Um, he knows um the desperation, he knows when it's a desperate measures.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: Um, now sometimes when we're praying in desperate moments, and the only thing we can get out of our mouth is Lord save me, he knows how desperate you are in that moment.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: Okay, because you're not you're not giving him some frivolous prayer, you know, you're not dumping a whole bucket on him, you know.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: So there's a difference in timing.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: I believe the timing comes based off from the urgency, you know, and you trusting enough just to call out to God.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: Because we don't do that enough.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: We don't just call out to God.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: So I think it's some, you know, it's exciting too, knowing that when we get down to our deepest, you know, I I've heard people say, um, like I got down to my lowest low and all I did was cry out to God.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: You know, I just surrendered to God, just gave it all to God, you know.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: And in that moment, I've had testimonies upon testimonies within that moment, everything was lifted off of them.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: All of the weight of the world went away.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: And he took it.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: Um, but sometimes we have to get to that position to realize how much we need God.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: But God doesn't want us to get to that position before we realize that's when we need him.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: We don't have to go to the pit first.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: You know, we can we can start right here, right now.
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: Even if we are messy or dirty or like you said, in the mess we're in, we can get cleaned up, but we don't have to get cleaned up first.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: Wherever we're at right now, sometimes when we wait, the waiting takes us further into the pit.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: It'll take us further and further and further.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: And sometimes God will allow that because we're not recognizing he's right in front of us.
- 35:50unknown: Right.
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: Right here, right now.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: There's nothing holding the holding him back from you know, fulfilling his word, for fulfilling the truth and fulfilling the promise.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: So I think it's really important that um our listeners understand that um we can we can beat around the bush and we can procrastinate and we can dig ourselves into a bigger hole, you know.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: Um and God will let us.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: God gave us a free will to keep on digging if that's what we choose.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: Instead of just calling out and saying, Lord, save me.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: Really wants to do that instead.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: He really does not want to see us suffer, he does want to see us go further, further, and further into the pit.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: So I love there's so much in this scripture.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: The scripture we could talk for a few weeks on just this chapter alone because there's so much to it.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: But I hope that kind of clarifies and answers um um your question.
- 36:42SPEAKER_03: But I would I really did want to point out um how I thought it was interesting that God or Jesus said, Hey, be of good cheer.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: I'm here, you know, and I'm thinking, I'm pretty sure in that moment they're not like, oh, yippee, yippee, skippy, you know, like I'm so happy, you know, because they're terrified.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: And God, even in our moments, um, that's another point, but because when we're in our moments of trouble or fear, when we have that fear over us, because there are some times that we need to have be mindful.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: Um, there's good fear and there's bad fear.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: So, you know, that that's another episode.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: But um, it's funny that when we are facing fear, God still wants us to be in good cheer.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: And it's like, what?
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: How would I be cheerful in this moment?
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: Are you kidding me?
- 37:28SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, there's no way, you know, and it seems kind of ridiculous, but again, I think he's testing us to see our reaction.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: What are we gonna do?
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: How do we handle the situation?
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: Sometimes I know for myself I have not handled every situation in my life the way I probably should have.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: I know for a fact that I've not handled situations in my life the way I should have.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: Um, and you know, if I were to go back and do it over, I would probably do it a little bit differently.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: But I learned from it.
- 37:57SPEAKER_03: You know, I had to learn from that lesson.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: It was a hard lesson, you know, and that's you know, again, free will.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: We get those lessons learned from um making those mistakes.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: But even though we made those mistakes, God still saved me.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: He still saved me, he still loves me, he's forgiven me.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: Um, I've repented, and and he's showing me that the next time that situation comes up, I don't have to get angry about it.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: I don't have to get so mad.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: Um like I said in the last episode when I want to punch somebody in the throat, you know?
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Um, or you know, I I I am really bad at going to the grocery store.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: And like it, like if you think of ray uh road rage is bad, well, Walmart rage is bad too when it's you know like Black Friday or whatever um situations occur and there's just people pushing and shoving everybody and everybody wants what they want and they better get it before you get it.
- 38:51SPEAKER_03: And it's an it's just re it's absurd, it's stupid if you ask me, but um, I've only went once and almost got in a fight.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: So I was like, you know, I'm never gonna do this again because I don't have to.
- 39:00SPEAKER_03: I don't have to put myself in that situation.
- 39:02SPEAKER_03: I can decide to decline to go and put myself in a situation where I'm gonna let it get me angry like that because I got really angry.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: And I don't want to be angry.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: Um I did not handle the situation very well.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: I was in front of my daughter.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: I was gonna punch the lady right in the face in the middle of Walmart because she shoved my daughter into the to the shelf.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: She went around the corner and threw my kid into the shelf and she almost got whooped that day.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: And I thought I was going to jail.
- 39:30SPEAKER_03: But my daughter literally grabbed my hand and she said, Mommy, I'm okay.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: This is okay.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: And I said, I was like, Okay, you're right.
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: You're okay.
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: I don't need to go to jail over this.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Let's go.
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: And we left Walmart, and I never ever went back onto Black Friday again because I I decided I don't need that for myself or for anybody else, you know.
- 39:48SPEAKER_03: And I knew I couldn't handle myself, so I needed to remove myself from the situation.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: So we need to understand that when we're angry in it, how are we handling it?
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: You know, how could I have handled that situation a little differently?
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: Um, could it have been a better experience, you know?
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: And there are times that we're gonna recognize, hey, I could have done things differently, but we just don't do it, you know.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: So we got to keep in mind when we're praying to God and we're in desperate measures that He is right there to save us.
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: All we have to do is come to Him, you know?
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: And today, more than any, any, any other day, um, we need to come to Jesus because the world is so far gone right now.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: We are so far lost.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Even Christians, and I know some Christians are we're probably gonna get some flack for this, but Christians, come on, we're not, we're not doing it.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: We're not we're not we're not doing our part.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: You know, they say to if you're gonna talk the talk, you better walk the walk.
- 40:49SPEAKER_03: You know, we have to be doing it, and that's what I love about this podcast because the word of God, it's our instruction manual on how to how to do things, how to pray, when to pray, why to pray, um, when to come to Jesus.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: Sometimes we have to have a come to Jesus moment, sometimes every day.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sometimes multiple times.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: For me, sometimes it's multiple times, sometimes not so much.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: It depends on you know the situation or what's going on in my life.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: But um sometimes I think we need a come to Jesus moment, and we need to do it before he comes back, because if we don't, we're gonna be left behind.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: So it's it's you know, we're gonna be um not approved, and we want that stamp of approval from God, if that makes any sense.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: So, anyway, I'm gonna not um get distracted here because I could go on and on with this chapter, because there is a lot to it.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: So I will let you continue with what you have to share with us.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, um wonderful insights there, and it truly is powerful to consider you know, Jesus' ministry here on earth was only three and a half years or so.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: And yet, how much did he do in that time?
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: And he didn't.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: I find it interesting because he very easily could have said, What's the point of me doing all this?
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, yes, it's was for the cross and his resurrection and that, but he could have said, Well, you know, I'm just going to survive until he's knocking at my door until that time, and and yet he didn't.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: He sorry, he understood the importance of continuing on, and I that's another area where the Lord has been impressing upon me that you know as hard as it is here on earth now, we're still here for a purpose.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: Christians still have, I believe, a responsibility, and so we can't just.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Try to survive.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: We have to understand that.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: Hey Bethany, let me pause for just one second.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: Sorry, you guys, hang on.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Okay, sorry about that for the interruption.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: Had somebody knocking at the door there.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: Sorry about that.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: So we are back, and I'm sorry to interrupt you, Bethany.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: You want to go ahead and continue where you left off?
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: Um Peter's experience here should be a testament to us that no matter the situation, we should come to Jesus no matter how frequently we have to do that.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: And so as we close this episode for today, just remember, don't think you have to be perfect or sound perfect or anything like that.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: Just calm as you are and allow the Lord to do a work.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: And so, Mickey, would you like to close us in prayer?
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: Unless you have more to say.
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think um I love that this episode, these last few episodes.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't know about for for you personally, but for me personally, since we've started discussing this, um it's really brought a lot of attention to my own prayer life.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: And for you and for the for our listeners today, I don't know where you guys are at in your walk with Jesus and in your prayer time.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: Um if you have a prayer room or a prayer closet or you just when you get up or when you go to bed or throughout the day, um, I want to encourage that um you start reading the scriptures and you start seeing um or even watching our podcast because we're sharing the scriptures with you, that would be even better.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: Go ahead and follow us.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: We we would love to have you follow along.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: But um we want to help build and strengthen people with their prayer life because it only builds their relationship with Jesus.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: And sometimes, um, like you've said, and I use this expression a lot, and I'll keep using it because it's just so good.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: Um, we like to put God in a box and we shouldn't be doing that.
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: We like to put him on our checkoff list, we shouldn't be doing that.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: Um, he's not just okay, I got up this morning and I said my prayer and check it off.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: Um that's not a relationship, folks.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: That is really not a relationship.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: If you're walking and doing that, um, you need to have your heart posture checked because you're really not um, God doesn't want you to pray out of obligation.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: He doesn't want you to pray because, oh, I, you know, it's on my to-do list, I better get it done.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: You know, like, oh, here we go, I gotta pray again.
- 47:20SPEAKER_03: You know, that's not how God wants us to look at prayer.
- 47:23SPEAKER_03: And sometimes I think in the world that we're in, as chaotic as it is, as troublesome as it is, as much hate and negativity, and as offended as we get, and again, like I said earlier, that you know, this podcast, this episode might um strike a nerve with somebody, but um we need to we need to narrow it back down to what the word of God says, and we need to stick to the truth of it.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: The truth of the matter is if you don't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you're doomed.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: And I don't know any other way to say it, but you are.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: Um no matter what you're going through, what you're dealing with, what what's you know, what troubles you're trying to conquer, what sin you're in, sometimes people think like um if you have addictions that you can't go to God.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: If you have an addiction, God's the person to go to, he is your go-to.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: Like Jesus says to come.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: He doesn't say anything else.
- 48:21SPEAKER_03: Just come.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: He doesn't say, you know, well, after you go to rehab and after you go to AA and after you get cleaned up, after you're you get done smoking, go to Jesus and let him help you quit smoking.
- 48:33SPEAKER_03: Go to Jesus and have him help you.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: Um if you you're you know, if you're you're battling with alcohol or if you're battling with drugs or you're battling with, you know, I know people that battle with prescription pills.
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: You know, I know people that battle with food.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: Food's an addiction.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: Um, it's not just you know, drug-related always.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: I know people that are addicted right now.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: One of the top addictions in the world right now, and I don't know if you know this, Bethany, is pornography.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: Pornography is like taking over the world with addiction.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: Um, it's at the highest rate ever right now.
- 49:04SPEAKER_03: Pornography is.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: Um, I wouldn't know because I'm not involved in it, but um, you know, I'm completely um celibate, I'm not married.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: When I get married, then you know, I'll I want to fulfill my commitment to Christ, you know, through matrimony, like the way, you know, in in the covenant that God gave us and created for us.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: But um I was married once, but that, you know, that was my past.
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: So I think that when we're talking about these addictions and we're talking about all of the stuff we're going through in the world right now, we need to be praying.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: And I don't know if you know this or not, but um, I think it was last week or the week before.
- 49:44SPEAKER_03: Um Billy Graham's son, I can't think of his name.
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: Do you know his name?
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: Franklin.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Franklin, thank you.
- 49:53SPEAKER_03: I was like, I can't think of his name right offhand.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: I was like, I knew I was gonna forget it.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: Um, he actually called for a national day of prayer a couple weeks ago.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: Did you hear about that?
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: And he said, you know, we have a national day of prayer every year, one day a year.
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, you know what?
- 50:09SPEAKER_03: We need a national day of prayer every single day at this point.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: Amen.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: Yes, I really think, and then I noticed it triggered, uh, it triggered, and there's people doing all of these prayers now.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: They're getting people together and they're praying.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: They're coming together.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: Revival is happening, things are happening, and it's coming because people are praying for it.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: And they're coming to Jesus, they're having that come to Jesus moment, and we need to be focused in on that.
- 50:35SPEAKER_03: We need to remember that um Jesus is coming back.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: Yes, coming back sooner than we think.
- 50:42SPEAKER_03: And I I love that song by I think it's Cece Wynans.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm not sure if she's the original artist on it.
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: I don't think she might not be, but um, she sings, Come, Jesus, come, that song.
- 50:54SPEAKER_03: I love that song.
- 50:55SPEAKER_03: And um, she says, We've been waiting so long, but honestly, to God, it's not been very long.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: We know the Bible and we know how time operates.
- 51:04SPEAKER_03: To God, it hasn't been that long.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: To us, it seems like forever, you know.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: And um, it's amazing because back in the day, um, you know, people used to live to be like 900 years old old until Moses, and then he decided that you know our life expectancy would end at one, I think it's 140.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: Um, it would be the oldest you can get now.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: But I want to point out one interesting fact.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: When you were talking about Jesus um only being here and discipling for three and a half years, one thing I wanted to add to that, which I forgot, but I will include it now, is Jesus never traveled more than about 400 miles from where he was born.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: He stayed in this this little realm, this area, this and he never traveled anywhere in the nation besides right here.
- 51:51SPEAKER_03: Um think about this.
- 51:54SPEAKER_03: He's never traveled anywhere, but yet the entire world knows of him.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:59SPEAKER_03: And the and the word says that everyone will know of Jesus.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: We we can't use the excuse, well, I didn't know.
- 52:08SPEAKER_03: The whole world knows about Jesus, it's talked about all over the world, and um so we don't have any excuses.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: We don't have any excuses, and it's amazing, even though he never traveled abroad, his message went abroad.
- 52:24SPEAKER_03: What he did on the cross went abroad, and that's so important.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: We need to keep look, keep, keep focusing, um, focus in on that, because we need to know what God did by giving us his son to die on a cross for us.
- 52:41SPEAKER_03: If we were the last person on earth, he would still do it.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: Yes, I remember when somebody told me that one time, it struck me because I would be like, Well, I remember one time I was being like rebellious, and I was like, Well, I didn't ask him to.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: Wow, I was like, I was really walking in rebellion, you know.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Because I was like, Well, I didn't ask Jesus to die for me.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: He didn't have to.
- 53:07SPEAKER_03: He did that, and that's exactly right, he didn't have to, he chose to, yes, and that makes it even more powerful.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: Yes, you know, he chose to do it because he loved us so much.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: So we need to work on strengthening our prayers.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: We need to work on how we're praying, when we're praying, why we're praying.
- 53:25SPEAKER_03: We need to not be so worried about when he's gonna answer them.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: We just need to be in communication with them.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: He wants to have a communication with us, he wants to have that personal relationship.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: So, um, in closing today, I'll go ahead and close this out in prayer.
- 53:38SPEAKER_03: But if that's you and you you don't know um what you're doing in your prayer life or you need help for prayer, reach out to Beth and Near I and we can help you.
- 53:50SPEAKER_03: We we can show you the scripture, we can walk you through it.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: We can even pray with you if you need prayer.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: I have a link on my website, um, crushingstrongholds.com, where you can actually request um um prayer time and I will pray for you.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: If you have, you can go in and subscribe.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: When you subscribe, there's a little area where you can put a little note and you can just put pray for me.
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: You don't have to explain yourself, you don't have to tell me, you know, all of um all of your troubles.
- 54:15SPEAKER_03: Trust me, we all have troubles.
- 54:18SPEAKER_03: There's none of us that don't.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: So I think that um if we just start praying for one another like we're supposed to be interceding on on each other's behalf, we start talking to who the father is, things are we're gonna see more revival happening before Jesus comes.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: And the reason Jesus is waiting to come is because he knows the bride is not ready.
- 54:42unknown: Right.
- 54:42SPEAKER_03: But you know what?
- 54:43SPEAKER_03: The bride is getting ready.
- 54:44SPEAKER_03: And guess what?
- 54:45SPEAKER_03: We are the bride.
- 54:46SPEAKER_03: As Christians, we are the bride, we are the church.

- 57:30SPEAKER_03: So it's okay if you jump around a little bit.
- 57:32SPEAKER_03: I would suggest starting with Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John because that's where the gospel of Jesus Christ is.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: And I encourage you to do that.
