- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Craig Way. Thanks so much for joining us.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Glad to have you with us this afternoon. US, of course,
- 0:05Speaker 1: includes the producer of this radio program.
- 0:08Speaker 2: That would be Cameron D. Parker.
- 0:10Speaker 1: The dean on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
- 0:13Speaker 1: in his father's favorite professional football team, for whom Cam
- 0:18Speaker 1: was given the middle name. It's Cam's favorite team as well,
- 0:22Speaker 1: but he refuses to watch them out of the disgust
- 0:25Speaker 1: that continues to permeate all of Cowboys' Nation. So, I mean,
- 0:32Speaker 1: other than your friends in your congregation, how do you
- 0:36Speaker 1: spend your Sundays?
- 0:38Speaker 3: I still watched I mean last Sunday we were at
- 0:40Speaker 3: Moody Center, right so, and the women watching Texas women's
- 0:43Speaker 3: basketball put the whip in their home openers. So you
- 0:47Speaker 3: know it's Austin, Texas. You know, there's a lot of
- 0:50Speaker 3: great ways to spend your Sunday besides watching Cooper Rush
- 0:54Speaker 3: throw for fourteen passing yards in the first half. And
- 0:57Speaker 3: then Drey Lance come in and did something I don't
- 1:01Speaker 3: know exactly. It wasn't football. From what I was told,
- 1:03Speaker 3: he was playing something that wasn't football.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Do you have an opinion on that? Who should be
- 1:07Speaker 2: playing quarterback right now. No, I don't care. You can.
- 1:09Speaker 2: You can.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Stephen Jones should go out there for all I care.
- 1:12Speaker 3: What's Steven out there? Let him get sacked nine times again?
- 1:14Speaker 1: No, let John Stephen Joe his son the quarterback at
- 1:16Speaker 1: Highland Park. Let him state championship and went to Arkansas
- 1:19Speaker 1: to walk off.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Suit up JSJ. Hey.
- 1:21Speaker 3: They signed Will Greer from Davidson, North Carolina.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, in West Virginia, the practice squad, but will back
- 1:28Speaker 1: out there?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah? So when Will Greer the one went in and
- 1:31Speaker 2: did horns down at the end he did. That was
- 1:33Speaker 2: the overtime game. That was. Yeah, it was a tough game.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I thought, I remember that overtime right yeap? Or no?
- 1:39Speaker 2: They went for two right and he ran it in? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:43Speaker 2: you were a student then, weren't you? Were you already out?
- 1:44Speaker 3: I was a student and actually that day it was
- 1:47Speaker 3: the only home game I missed because we had a
- 1:50Speaker 3: lab who schedules a lab on a day subject it was.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It was one of my journalism classes. We had some
- 1:56Speaker 3: lab and it was a requirement to be there.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And why would they do that on a sack a
- 2:00Speaker 2: gain day, a home game day Saturday for Heaven?
- 2:03Speaker 3: I had a professor we didn't really care too much
- 2:05Speaker 3: about football, and he knew that there was a football
- 2:07Speaker 3: game going on, so he was like mandatory, I don't know,
- 2:09Speaker 3: out a spide or something like that. So me and
- 2:11Speaker 3: and my buddies, and you know, there's a lot of
- 2:14Speaker 3: sports journalism majors in my classes, and we're sitting there watching,
- 2:18Speaker 3: watching the game, doing this stupid lab and an assignment
- 2:21Speaker 3: that easily could have been done during the week, and
- 2:26Speaker 3: tough ending to end because I like Worl Greer a lot.
- 2:30Speaker 3: You know, I knew his family and all that crap.
- 2:32Speaker 3: But yeah, horns down that that was at the peak
- 2:35Speaker 3: of horns down too, And it was like, yeah, we
- 2:37Speaker 3: don't care, and then he does horns down after the
- 2:38Speaker 3: two point conversion.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Actually we do care. We'll gret you.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Didn't realize I was going to touch a nerve bringing
- 2:47Speaker 1: that up.
- 2:48Speaker 2: My goodness.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It can be the only Texas fan that remembers that.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I mean, oh, I just didn't memory him in the
- 2:54Speaker 3: corner of the end zone with both.
- 2:55Speaker 2: The horns down. I thought, I remember that, Okay, who.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Was the receiver who was white who absolutely tore stuffs
- 3:00Speaker 3: too that game. Keep saying we as if I played
- 3:02Speaker 3: for the team.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Really, it's twenty eighteen, righte Texas. But you're you're
- 3:05Speaker 2: a graduate, so you get to say that.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm kind of in the media, So yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 3: I was like, Hey, we didn't look good on Saturday.
- 3:12Speaker 3: He'd be like, excuse me, I don't. I don't think
- 3:15Speaker 3: he would take to that kindly too much. Yeah, I would.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I would imagine that would be the case.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Uh there, Speaking of Sark coming up and sALS the fifth,
- 3:25Speaker 1: David stills the fifth, I think he was ram briefly,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and I think he was.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I know he's been, he'd been with a couple of
- 3:34Speaker 2: NFL teams. What a game.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, speaking of Sark, we're gonna bring you the SEC
- 3:43Speaker 1: teleconference here in a few minutes that Sark was on
- 3:46Speaker 1: just a little while ago. And you know, I like
- 3:50Speaker 1: being able to bring it to you the listener to
- 3:53Speaker 1: where you actually hear the reporters questions and hearing it
- 3:57Speaker 1: going down and the moderator and all that kind of
- 3:58Speaker 1: stuff kind opens the door a little bit and pulls
- 4:02Speaker 1: the curtain back a little bit and lets you get
- 4:04Speaker 1: a chance to hear from the head coach as he
- 4:08Speaker 1: responds to questions from the media, and we'll do that.
- 4:14Speaker 2: So that's coming up in a few minutes.
- 4:16Speaker 1: We do have inconceivable this hour in the three o'clock hour,
- 4:21Speaker 1: Chuck Barrett good Dude, play by play voice of the
- 4:24Speaker 1: Arkansas Razorbacks, joins us in the three o'clock hour, so
- 4:28Speaker 1: we have that coming up as well, and a lot
- 4:30Speaker 1: of conversation about college football. We can dive right in,
- 4:33Speaker 1: obviously with the College Football Playoff rankings. Those came out
- 4:39Speaker 1: when the Texas basketball game that we were at last
- 4:42Speaker 1: night was going down the stretch of the first half
- 4:46Speaker 1: and then at halftime when it was still coming down
- 4:49Speaker 1: at that point. And I've seen a lot of the
- 4:54Speaker 1: action reaction on social media about with regard to Texas
- 4:57Speaker 1: schedule and another team schedule, and that's sort of thing
- 5:00Speaker 1: as well. Here's here's something that's that I always kind
- 5:04Speaker 1: of get an appreciation for.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Now.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, I was never a big fan
- 5:11Speaker 1: of the BCS, but it was better than what was
- 5:15Speaker 1: before that. But Bill Connley from ESPN does the comparison
- 5:20Speaker 1: with what the College Football Playoff Committee does with that
- 5:27Speaker 1: BCS formula. He learned that combine combining the poll averages
- 5:31Speaker 1: the AP and the coaches polls with a computer average
- 5:35Speaker 1: derived from both power ratings the sp plus and the
- 5:38Speaker 1: FPI and resume ratings resume sp plus and strength the
- 5:43Speaker 1: record that they could approximate the College Football Playoff Committee's
- 5:48Speaker 1: thinking pretty well. And it said if it's almost BCS
- 5:51Speaker 1: style rating, and it lined up with what the committee
- 5:53Speaker 1: produces most of the time.
- 5:55Speaker 2: So here's here's here's what it produced this week.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It said where the committee disagreed, He says they disagreed
- 6:03Speaker 1: a lot. The first three spots in the rankings are
- 6:09Speaker 1: and would be identical. You're listening to those of you
- 6:14Speaker 1: who sayre carping about the Texas schedule identical to the
- 6:19Speaker 1: BCS formula. Oregon number one, Ohio State number two, Texas
- 6:24Speaker 1: number three, those are identical. Now below that is when
- 6:29Speaker 1: things start getting really weird. All the way down to
- 6:32Speaker 1: number eleven. From spots four through ten, there's a difference
- 6:35Speaker 1: in what that formula would be as opposed to the
- 6:38Speaker 1: College Football Playoff ranking. Ole Miss at eleven lined up
- 6:44Speaker 1: in both slots like Texas, Oregon, Ohio State in their slot.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Same thing with Texas A and M at fifteen. Everything else,
- 6:53Speaker 1: there was a difference in how the College Football Playoff
- 6:56Speaker 1: rankings would be.
- 6:57Speaker 2: For example, when.
- 6:58Speaker 1: These BCS style rankings, Tennessee would be fourth, but they're
- 7:01Speaker 1: seventh in the CFP rankings.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Penn State would be fifth.
- 7:04Speaker 1: They're fourth in the College Football Playoff rankings, Indiana sixth,
- 7:08Speaker 1: they're fifth in the CPP's pretty close, but there is
- 7:10Speaker 1: a differentiation. Notre Dame seventh, eighth in the CFP rankings,
- 7:15Speaker 1: BYU eighth, sixth in the CFP rankings, Alabama ninth, tenth
- 7:22Speaker 1: in the CFP rankings, Georgia tenth, twelfth in the CFP rankings.
- 7:26Speaker 1: That's important to note because at twelve in the CFP rankings,
- 7:30Speaker 1: Georgia would be out because remember the slots that have
- 7:37Speaker 1: to go to the five highest rated conference champions, and
- 7:42Speaker 1: that would include Boise State, who by the way, is
- 7:45Speaker 1: fourteenth in that BCS style rating but thirteenth in the
- 7:50Speaker 1: College Football Playoff rankings. At this point, Boise would be
- 7:54Speaker 1: the highest G five school or the highest remaining fifth
- 7:58Speaker 1: conference champions, so they would get slotted into twelve. And
- 8:01Speaker 1: that went not the twelve to the first one out. Well,
- 8:03Speaker 1: that would be Georgia right now. The rest of that
- 8:09Speaker 1: ole miss eleven, Like I said, Miami twelfth, ninth in
- 8:13Speaker 1: the CFP rankings, SMU thirteenth, fourteenth in the CFP rankings.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So and then Boise fourteen, they're thirteen in the rankings.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So a lot of it's close, but there is some differentiation.
- 8:23Speaker 1: My point about all of this is is that when
- 8:27Speaker 1: folks point out this business of well they would be
- 8:32Speaker 1: more punished for their schedule in the College Football Playoff rankings, No,
- 8:36Speaker 1: they wouldn't. Looking at that with the formula that the
- 8:40Speaker 1: formula that goes into that, that's what comes out. Texas
- 8:44Speaker 1: would be number three if it were the old BCS
- 8:48Speaker 1: formula or the current College Football Playoff format. And and
- 8:53Speaker 1: I was explaining this to Linda because she was asking,
- 8:55Speaker 1: why are they number two at number three? I said,
- 8:57Speaker 1: they're number three, but if this were the end of
- 9:01Speaker 1: the regular season in the conference championship games, they would
- 9:04Speaker 1: be slotted in to the two slot. That's the important
- 9:08Speaker 1: thing to continue to point out there. So you know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: that's just something to know.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Now.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Sark will be the first to tell you it doesn't matter,
- 9:16Speaker 1: don't amount to an awful lot right now, And we'll
- 9:18Speaker 1: talk about it more tonight on Long Worn Weekly, which
- 9:22Speaker 1: we record the show Wednesday evenings at six at Pluckers,
- 9:26Speaker 1: the West Campus location.
- 9:27Speaker 2: If you're planning come over, I would suggest get there
- 9:29Speaker 2: a little early.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Our guest is Ricky Williams, so Ricky will be with
- 9:32Speaker 1: us tonight and we're going to take a couple extra
- 9:35Speaker 1: segments with Ricky. So we'll be there with Ricky Williams
- 9:40Speaker 1: the ninety eight Heisman Trophy Winter obviously to talk to
- 9:42Speaker 1: some long worn football and we'll have long wrn football
- 9:45Speaker 1: coach Sark, So that's coming away. The recording of it
- 9:48Speaker 1: is at six o'clock tonight. It'll air here on the
- 9:51Speaker 1: SNE tomorrow night at seven, preceded by a live edition
- 9:56Speaker 1: of Long Worn Weekly with Rodney Terry, the long one
- 9:58Speaker 1: men's basketball coach, that comes with at six o'clock, so
- 10:01Speaker 1: to be live at six, and then at seven o'clock
- 10:04Speaker 1: the recorded show that we're doing today with Sark will air.
- 10:07Speaker 2: All right.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Coming up next, we'll hear from Sark, Long WARN's head
- 10:11Speaker 1: coach from the SEC teleconference here on Sports Radio Am
- 10:14Speaker 1: thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app
