- 0:00Happy Tuesday, everybody. Tuesday is becoming my favorite
- 0:07because I can pay tribute to all my Wisconsin family and friends.
- 0:16Yeah, don't you know what? Yeah, Tuesday.
- 0:21I can't help it. All right, We got a lot.
- 0:26We got a lot of show and tell today.
- 0:29Here's the notes, everybody. Ricky Stenhouse, Todd Gillen,
- 0:35work ethic the hard way. And what's that say
- 0:43documentaries. But before we do this, you have
- 0:53been, you have been wonderful, everybody.
- 0:56You have had fun with me all week long while I've been here
- 0:58at Aunt Patty and Uncle Rusty's house.
- 1:02The green bong, the vase. I mean, the vase is just a piece
- 1:09of artwork. And of course, I got a little
- 1:13lazy and we got the coffee mugs out at the racetrack.
- 1:18Rhonda is selling them. And so Are you ready?
- 1:23Are you ready? Oh, OK, here we go.
- 1:29OK, let's let's put the decal on.
- 1:37There we go. Let's go.
- 1:40Everybody knows on running free. It's all center a little bit,
- 1:49but it'll work. It's all right for the show, OK?
- 1:57We won last night. That's not the story.
- 2:01The the story is not me, not us, not my team winning last night.
- 2:07The story is I'm going to be 63 years old, August 23rd.
- 2:13I was born August 23rd, 1963. And as my mom always tells me,
- 2:19honey, Hun, Ken, you were born the year Kennedy got
- 2:25assassinated, Mom. So anyway, here it is.
- 2:35Here it is. The legendary the.
- 2:41You know how hard this trophy is.
- 2:43OK, I got to tell you a little story about this.
- 2:46There are 100 race cars out there, 100, and what they do is
- 2:51they split them up. 20406080, a hundred, something like that
- 2:57anyway, I don't know, maybe 16 cars, whatever it is.
- 3:00And you, you qualify, you make single app qualifying, you earn
- 3:04your starting position and you race to win these.
- 3:10OK, you race to win them. This is my seventh win.
- 3:18They say 6 Gators, but I won back in 2007.
- 3:23Let me see 3 Yes, I won an Eagle before.
- 3:32Before they gave away Gators. 2007 I won an Eagle.
- 3:38So I guess Gators eat Eagles anyway.
- 3:44So yeah, back in 2012, back in 2012, there was 115 cars and I
- 3:53won three of seven in 2012, and there was only one feature back
- 3:59then. So back then you'd qualify 115
- 4:03cars and you ran one feature and we won three that year.
- 4:10But 2007 we won one. Then they started this format.
- 4:14So anyway, yeah, we lined up with Tyler nicely behind me,
- 4:19David Strimming. And so a well earned trophy.
- 4:25OK, switching subjects. Switching subjects.
- 4:36Yesterday at Bowman Gray, Ricky Stenhouse was born in, you know,
- 4:44down there in Mississippi. Damn, I forgot the name.
- 4:48Respond right here. I love where he's from.
- 4:50It's such a badass sounding name.
- 4:53Something missus Olive Branch, Ms. Man, if I was an announcer,
- 4:58I'd just say that all the time. From Olive Branch, Ms. Ricky
- 5:03Stenhouse Junior crowd goes wild.
- 5:08Ricky Stenhouse has got incredible work ethic, you know,
- 5:12has some property, works hard on the on the ranch there.
- 5:18And he puts out a social media post.
- 5:20He goes, hey, you know, let's go 45 minutes up the road here to
- 5:24Bowman, Gray, Winston Salem. And let's do like the Buffalo
- 5:29Bill football fans do. Everybody grab your shovel at
- 5:34your house and I'll meet you at the racetrack.
- 5:38Well, what was it? Todd Gilliland?
- 5:41Yeah, Todd Gilliland, the other great race car driver.
- 5:46Love that kid. I've talked to Todd.
- 5:49I like him. Todd Gilliland joins Ricky
- 5:52Stenhouse along with maybe 20 other people.
- 5:56There are some pictures out there that NASCAR has posted.
- 6:00So they go to work and all of a sudden, you know, they're
- 6:05they're doing what's right. They're cleaning the seats out,
- 6:08they're cleaning the grandstands out for you fans so you don't
- 6:12have to sit on snow. So I see on social media
- 6:17somebody says, and this is the subject matter.
- 6:20Somebody says, oh, good to see they're not prima donnas, Prima
- 6:25donnas and they have a work ethic.
- 6:30Brings me to this. Some of you don't know people
- 6:37and you just draw conclusions and run that mouth from far
- 6:41away. 9 out of 10 of those Cup drivers have worked their ass
- 6:48off to get where they're at. And I hope one day that NASCAR
- 6:55at at NASCAR at at their TV deal can do a quick three minute
- 7:01documentary on each one of these drivers to show you what they
- 7:05put in to get to where they're at.
- 7:09I can tell you that I know all those drivers and you know, you,
- 7:14you guys might have a valid point maybe to one or two
- 7:19drivers, but but I'm telling you, every one of those Cup
- 7:23drivers, they deserve to be there.
- 7:26And now I'm sure, I'm sure that, you know, you can say there's a
- 7:32driver, your racetrack that deserves to be there, but it's
- 7:37just that's life. I mean, I'm sure there's
- 7:39football players that deserve to be in the NFL and I'm sure
- 7:42there's baseball players that deserve to be in Major League
- 7:45Baseball. But that's, you know, life's not
- 7:46fair all the time. So to spend your whole life
- 7:49complaining about, you know, somebody that you know nothing
- 7:54about is not healthy. Now I want to talk about things.
- 8:06I watched John Elway. John Elway.
- 8:10I watched his documentary John Elway.
- 8:12Later in his career, he won two Super Bowls but ended up
- 8:17divorcing his wife because it took him a long time to get
- 8:20there. And John just became bitter and
- 8:24and his life was not complete because he couldn't win them
- 8:28damn Super Bowls. Watch the John A Elway
- 8:31documentary on Netflix. So have you ever heard of this?
- 8:38Our family does everything the hard way.
- 8:40Yeah, that's my family. We, we do everything the hard
- 8:44way. Everything the hard way.
- 8:46Make yourself miserable. Earn it.
- 8:50Do it the hard way. Well, the older you get, you
- 8:55think about how tired you are of that.
- 8:57It it, it's OK to do everything the hard way 3/4 of your life.
- 9:02Well, when when you get to be a certain age, it's like, you know
- 9:04what I'm about ready to kill myself physically, physically, I
- 9:09can't do everything the hard way anymore.
- 9:11So I'm going to do everything the smart way.
- 9:15So sometimes when you see these cup drivers and they've earned
- 9:20earned it and they got there. Hey, you know, that's a life.
- 9:26They earned it. You just like I said, you might
- 9:30point out a handful of Cup drivers, but for the most part,
- 9:339 out of 10 Cup drivers, they've earned it.
- 9:37Maybe they got the talent, maybe they got a God-given talent.
- 9:44All right, everybody, I'll see you tonight at a Volusia
- 9:49Speedway.
