- 0:00Speaker 1: The greats that you've been around, like Tory, show Hey,
- 0:02Speaker 1: obviously Mike, what of those guys kind of what is
- 0:06Speaker 1: Mike meant to you and what has he taught you
- 0:09Speaker 1: as far as playing the outfield really the whole game
- 0:11Speaker 1: in general.
- 0:12Speaker 2: One hundred percent. I've obviously I've kind of outside of Mike.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I'm like the second longest tenured Angel now, so I've
- 0:18Speaker 2: been around you know, Mike now for a while, but
- 0:21Speaker 2: really just taught me the level of consistency of just
- 0:24Speaker 2: your work and show Hey was unbelievable too when he
- 0:27Speaker 2: was with us, and just being very meticulous about a
- 0:30Speaker 2: routine and committing to something because you know, like you're
- 0:34Speaker 2: going to go out there and there's just going to
- 0:36Speaker 2: be days where it doesn't go your way and you
- 0:38Speaker 2: don't have it going on. There's gonna be weeks where
- 0:40Speaker 2: it's like that, and so it's real easy to want
- 0:42Speaker 2: to switch something up and change something or try to
- 0:46Speaker 2: reinvent the wheel. And these guys are just like, hey,
- 0:48Speaker 2: like we know what works, like you know who you
- 0:51Speaker 2: are as a player. Just commit to that process. So
- 0:54Speaker 2: over the last five and six years of you know,
- 0:57Speaker 2: really being in the big leagues and being around Mike
- 0:59Speaker 2: and these guys, they just show you that level of
- 1:01Speaker 2: consistency and what they do in their routine.
- 1:03Speaker 1: So have you balanced, because at some point you do
- 1:07Speaker 1: have to switch some things up just to keep up
- 1:09Speaker 1: with what's going on. How have you balanced being consistent
- 1:13Speaker 1: but also switching some things up and adding to your
- 1:18Speaker 1: repertoire of whatever it is, whether it's hitting, defense or whatever.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Have you balanced that.
- 1:23Speaker 2: One hundred percent? I think I think one of the
- 1:25Speaker 2: big things for me is when I'm getting a little
- 1:27Speaker 2: out of whack, I'm trying to do too much. And
- 1:29Speaker 2: that's normally I'm trying to either if I'm slumping, I'm
- 1:32Speaker 2: trying to swing my way out of it, or you know,
- 1:35Speaker 2: if I'm not feeling too great, it's I'm not seeing
- 1:37Speaker 2: the ball or I'm chasing. And one thing that's always
- 1:40Speaker 2: the constant is to just go back on defense. And
- 1:43Speaker 2: that's like always, that's kind of how I've reverted back to.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Kind of getting back and going at the plate is
- 1:47Speaker 2: like if I can go out and make a big
- 1:49Speaker 2: play or go out and focus on trying to get
- 1:52Speaker 2: it out. If I'm getting out, somebody else is getting
- 1:54Speaker 2: out and kind of trying to have that mindset. A
- 1:56Speaker 2: lot of times things will click back, but really just
- 1:59Speaker 2: shorten up and do what the game's asking. For a
- 2:02Speaker 2: lot of times he's putting me back.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Just play the game, just worry about all the extra things.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I'll be the hero. Just play it, you know, and
- 2:09Speaker 2: then you'll get back into that groove.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And then eventually we'll be the hero.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yea, all right.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I do want to talk a little bit about Show
- 2:14Speaker 1: Hay and pitching. He's going crazy right now, especially, but
- 2:17Speaker 1: in general, you saw him pitching all the time. What
- 2:20Speaker 1: you got on in pitching, bro.
- 2:23Speaker 2: The thing about Show that you know, gets me going
- 2:26Speaker 2: is the fact that he'll come into spring training. He'll say, hey,
- 2:29Speaker 2: like I want to do this, And most people come
- 2:32Speaker 2: to spring training and they have all sorts of ideas
- 2:34Speaker 2: about what they're going to do, and he just does it.
- 2:36Speaker 2: It's like he came in. It's I remember when he
- 2:38Speaker 2: started messing around with the sweeper for the first time
- 2:41Speaker 2: a couple of years ago, and we were like, it's
- 2:43Speaker 2: like one of the best see the game, you know
- 2:45Speaker 2: what I mean. It's just it's crazy to see. But really,
- 2:48Speaker 2: just his tenacity and focus when it comes to getting
- 2:52Speaker 2: it done and trying to find whatever he's trying to do.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's like he finds a way to get it done
- 2:56Speaker 2: all the time. So he's been just a force.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not kind of sometimes not really fair, just
- 3:03Speaker 1: because you know, people say you can do whatever you
- 3:08Speaker 1: put your mind to, right, and it's it's true in
- 3:12Speaker 1: a lot of situations, but like in the big leagues,
- 3:15Speaker 1: it's not. It's not really like you can't just say, oh,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw a sweeper and then be the best
- 3:19Speaker 1: in league of throwing.
- 3:20Speaker 2: One time a bullpen and come out and then go you.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Know, you know what I'm saying, Like that doesn't really
- 3:24Speaker 1: work that way, and for him it does. I think
- 3:28Speaker 1: he his rules to life are a little different than
- 3:32Speaker 1: the rest of us, which is cool. I'm glad he's
- 3:34Speaker 1: on our team.
- 3:35Speaker 2: So but.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You had your chance, you had him. Sorry about it,
- 3:40Speaker 1: but I do want to talk about and then him
- 3:42Speaker 1: having obviously two of the best in the game as
- 3:45Speaker 1: far as show Hey and Trout, how did it go
- 3:47Speaker 1: show Hay then Trout or Trout then show Hey.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I think for the most part it was show Hate
- 3:51Speaker 2: leading off, and then Trout was second.
- 3:53Speaker 1: How was that when you when you're in the lineup
- 3:56Speaker 1: and you see show Hey Trout.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Oh well, I'll tell you right now, it's great. You
- 4:00Speaker 2: know you're gonna get something good to head because those
- 4:01Speaker 2: two dudes are going to wear him out, you know
- 4:03Speaker 2: what I mean, you're hanging out behind that and you're like,
- 4:05Speaker 2: I'm in good shape. But I mean it's it's special.
- 4:08Speaker 2: And the crazy thing is about like Show too, was
- 4:10Speaker 2: like think about that he pitched. He would lead off
- 4:15Speaker 2: right and work the count just like you would if
- 4:19Speaker 2: you were any other position player, and then go out
- 4:22Speaker 2: and throw seven innings with three heads and no runs,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and we expected it.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I had to like wake myself. I'm like, hey, like
- 4:31Speaker 2: this is ridiculous. Sitting on the bench expecting a guy
- 4:33Speaker 2: to go and do this in a major league game
- 4:35Speaker 2: is insane.
- 4:35Speaker 1: That's what I see now is like, you know, if
- 4:40Speaker 1: he doesn't get a hit or it doesn't maybe have
- 4:42Speaker 1: a couple bad games, it's like, well, what's wrong with
- 4:45Speaker 1: Show Hey? Well, I mean he did just go seven innings,
- 4:48Speaker 1: you know, two hits. He does have a point seven
- 4:51Speaker 1: e ra a. You know, you forget like all the
- 4:54Speaker 1: other ways that he really affects the game, And so
- 4:57Speaker 1: would you how would you rank that As far as
- 5:00Speaker 1: like duos show Hey and Trout, I would say for me,
- 5:03Speaker 1: that's got to be like I would say probably top
- 5:09Speaker 1: top three or four duos ever, you know, like back
- 5:13Speaker 1: to back those two there. There can't be that many
- 5:16Speaker 1: more duos that are better than show Hey and Trout.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Dude. It was it was silly like sitting back and
- 5:24Speaker 2: watching it and then you get like it. For me,
- 5:25Speaker 2: I was I got used to being a part of them,
- 5:28Speaker 2: just like being out there and it's like this is
- 5:30Speaker 2: wild And there was a time where pull host was
- 5:32Speaker 2: out there. Oh yeah, you know too, you know what
- 5:34Speaker 2: I mean. For us, it was just just having that
- 5:36Speaker 2: that's about the star started is I mean, that's that's
- 5:39Speaker 2: big time. That's big time for sure.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Back in twenty twenty three, I know you probably remember
- 5:45Speaker 1: watching the WBC and you saw show Hey and the
- 5:48Speaker 1: Mic showdown right this epic? Did you Was there like
- 5:52Speaker 1: a group chat or something going on when when that happened, Well, I.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Think nobody knew what to say. I think that's kind
- 5:57Speaker 2: of what the vibe was because we were all sitting
- 6:00Speaker 2: watching the game and it was like, well, we can't
- 6:03Speaker 2: say what a punch out, you know, what I mean,
- 6:05Speaker 2: because it's like, because it's Mike, are we going to
- 6:07Speaker 2: get you know, you get our bags packed, They're going
- 6:09Speaker 2: to send us out of here. You know, we don't
- 6:11Speaker 2: we don't want to talk about it, but I mean
- 6:13Speaker 2: you want to talk about two of the best players
- 6:14Speaker 2: that were just going like just like a class of Titans.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I mean, it was pretty unreal.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Was it weird when they got back to camp?
- 6:21Speaker 2: Oh no, I don't think so.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Everybody was cool.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Everybody was cool, and it was just talked about it
- 6:25Speaker 2: all for sure. But it was good for baseball. Yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 2: Like that's what everybody got out of it was just
- 6:29Speaker 2: the experience of seeing that you're not going to see
- 6:32Speaker 2: that every day, you know what I mean, like Mike
- 6:34Speaker 2: wearing USA, you know, show hey with Japan like one
- 6:37Speaker 2: on one, Like that's that's what everybody came to see.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So that was that was really amazing. And then when
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know, being there, you kind of take it for
- 6:45Speaker 1: granted because you don't even really pay attention to that.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You're just playing the game, right obviously you know that
- 6:51Speaker 1: the teammates, but you're not really paying attention to the
- 6:53Speaker 1: to the whole thing. You know, Like what just happened,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, because things like that don't ever really happened
- 7:00Speaker 1: and so forth to happen and we're not looking back
- 7:04Speaker 1: on it like that.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Was kind of you don't recognize them, you're in it,
- 7:07Speaker 2: you're competing in it, and then you look back and go, wow,
- 7:09Speaker 2: at the moment was huge.
- 7:10Speaker 1: That was huge. Yeah, it was huge.
