- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another Dutch session? Luna: Absolutely. I feel like we've been talking about body parts for ages. Lucas: Well, they're pretty useful. And today we've got two more: the knee and the ankle. Luna: Oh, I definitely know about those. I twisted my ankle last week. Lucas: See, perfect timing. So today we're learning how to say knee and ankle in Dutch, and how to talk about pain there. Luna: Let's do it. Lucas: First word: de knie. That's the knee. Luna: De knie. De knie. Lucas: Good. And the ankle is de enkel. Luna: De enkel. De enkel. That sounds kind of like 'ankle' actually. Lucas: It does, a bit. Now let's put them into a phrase. If you want to say 'my knee hurts', you say: Mijn knie doet pijn. Luna: Mijn knie doet pijn. Mijn knie doet pijn. Lucas: Perfect. And for the ankle: Mijn enkel doet pijn. Luna: Mijn enkel doet pijn. That's exactly what I would have said last week. Lucas: And if you twisted it, like you did, you can say: Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Luna: Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. That's a long one. Let me try again. Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Lucas: You got it. Now let's do a little scene. Imagine you're at the doctor's office. The doctor asks what's wrong. Luna: Okay, I'll be the patient. Um, Mijn enkel doet pijn. Lucas: And the doctor says, 'Oh, you've twisted it?' You say, 'Ja, ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt.' Luna: Ja, ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Lucas: See, you're already handling medical situations in Dutch. Luna: Well, I've had a lot of practice lately. But what about the knee? When would you say 'Mijn knie doet pijn'? Lucas: Maybe after a long run, or if you fell. Let's practice that one too. Luna: Mijn knie doet pijn. Mijn knie doet pijn. Lucas: Great. Now, let's imagine you're talking to a friend about your sore knee. Your friend says, 'Wat is er aan de hand?' Luna: I'd say, Mijn knie doet pijn. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's bring it all together. Can you say both? Mijn knie doet pijn en mijn enkel doet pijn. Luna: Mijn knie doet pijn en mijn enkel doet pijn. Wow, that's a whole sentence. Lucas: You're doing great. Remember, practice makes perfect. Say them a few more times. Luna: De knie, de enkel, mijn knie doet pijn, mijn enkel doet pijn, ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Lucas: That's it. You're all set for any knee or ankle emergencies. Luna: I hope not, but at least I can talk about it. Lucas: Before we go further, let's think about the fact that Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Dutch. We love that you're learning with us. Luna: We do. And we're glad you're here. Luna: Yeah, no ads, just Dutch. We appreciate every bit of support. Lucas: Now, let's do a quick review of today's phrases. Remember, de knie is the knee. Luna: De knie. Lucas: And de enkel is the ankle. Luna: De enkel. Lucas: If your knee hurts, say: Mijn knie doet pijn. Luna: Mijn knie doet pijn. Lucas: For the ankle: Mijn enkel doet pijn. Luna: Mijn enkel doet pijn. Lucas: And if you've twisted it: Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Luna: Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. That one's still tricky. Lucas: Let's break it down. Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Say it slowly with me. Luna: Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Lucas: Again. Luna: Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Lucas: Now you've got it. Let's put it into a little dialogue. You meet a friend who looks hurt. They say, 'Wat is er?' You say, 'Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt.' Luna: Ik heb mijn enkel verzwikt. Lucas: And they say, 'Oh, wat vervelend.' And you say, 'Ja, mijn enkel doet pijn.' Luna: Ja, mijn enkel doet pijn. Lucas: Perfect. So that's today's episode. We've got two new body parts and three useful phrases. Luna: I feel like I'm ready for any knee or ankle issues now. Lucas: And that's what matters. Take care of those knees and ankles, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Tot ziens!
