- 1:01Speaker 1: Porscha Guy, which I love.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So Spike Firston is coming up as well, But we
- 1:05Speaker 2: begin with the Toronto maple leafs.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And if you're ever wondered yourself like what, like why
- 1:11Speaker 1: do I listen to this podcast?
- 1:12Speaker 2: There's any other options out there?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Because I'll tell you why, Because after game five I
- 1:15Speaker 1: said that came ended with a limp fish.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And Jason de Merse is the only analyst in.
- 1:20Speaker 1: The Western Hemisphere whose advice to the may ple lice
- 1:24Speaker 1: was to take a sealis and to get hard. And
- 1:26Speaker 1: clearly the Leaves took that advice and they did that
- 1:28Speaker 1: in game six. They took a Seahalis and they got hard.
- 1:31Speaker 1: They won that game Game six when everyone else thought
- 1:33Speaker 1: they were done two nothing, and yet a rectile dysfunction
- 1:37Speaker 1: seemed to plague them once again in game seven as
- 1:39Speaker 1: they completely fell apart a flashid performance by the maple
- 1:43Speaker 1: leafs as the Panthers pushed them around the albumneuver them.
- 1:46Speaker 2: The mayple Leafs are gonna maple leave.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Shame on any of you that thought, oh, this is
- 1:49Speaker 1: a different leaf year, Oh Core four, it'll be different,
- 1:52Speaker 1: It'll be different since nineteen sixty seven, No, won't. The
- 1:55Speaker 1: Leaves embarrassed themselves in the biggest game of the year
- 1:57Speaker 1: on home ice.
- 1:58Speaker 2: In two huge games at home game five, they.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Got pumped and in Game seven six to one on
- 2:04Speaker 1: Atrocity right now on Young Street.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Wow, I don't even need to add anything after that.
- 2:10Speaker 3: That was it. That was as big a drubbing as
- 2:13Speaker 3: this game. You just drag them all the way to
- 2:17Speaker 3: Pierson International and burn it to the ground.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:22Speaker 3: This is the way the Core four ends. I mean,
- 2:24Speaker 3: if this shows you that Brandon Shanahan and the rest
- 2:26Speaker 3: of these guys see you later, why is Brendon Shanahan
- 2:29Speaker 3: still there after?
- 2:30Speaker 2: What? You know?
- 2:31Speaker 3: Again, it's not the way they lose. It is game seven.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I thought, you know, for parts of the series it
- 2:38Speaker 3: was very much and I'm gonna say this lightly, but
- 2:42Speaker 3: it very much was a more a well sorry, a
- 2:45Speaker 3: more well matched series. And people think it's just the
- 2:47Speaker 3: games that they lost. They did not piss a drop.
- 2:51Speaker 3: And that's the issue is that the games they were
- 2:53Speaker 3: in and they were engaged, they were they were playing
- 2:56Speaker 3: great hockey. But the games the most important once Game
- 2:59Speaker 3: five on home ice, in game seven you go to
- 3:02Speaker 3: absolute sleep. The defensive mistakes were countless huge. Odd Man
- 3:06Speaker 3: Russia is getting out work, getting out battled, Joseph Wall
- 3:09Speaker 3: letting in a couple of softies. It's just it's not enough.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Like again, we keep I feel like we constantly give
- 3:17Speaker 3: excuses to this Toronto Maple Leafs team and I don't
- 3:20Speaker 3: know what other core for guys have been given this
- 3:23Speaker 3: much opportunity to win a Cup and not do so,
- 3:25Speaker 3: not get blown up. It is time. I'm sorry, nice
- 3:29Speaker 3: time for three years time. It's not blowing up. But
- 3:33Speaker 3: one of the one or two of these no, no,
- 3:35Speaker 3: but one of what I mean by blow up is
- 3:36Speaker 3: mar Scott, one or two of these core four has
- 3:39Speaker 3: to go. They have to go. I'm sorry, it is
- 3:42Speaker 3: what it is. You have to move on, You have
- 3:44Speaker 3: to find something else. You got to take a swing
- 3:46Speaker 3: because what they've done. And I you know, bradfree Living,
- 3:50Speaker 3: he did some great stuff this year, bringing in some
- 3:52Speaker 3: really good pieces.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I take that.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I think if Anthony Stolars doesn't get a concussion, I
- 3:57Speaker 3: think he's this is a These two games that they
- 4:00Speaker 3: got blown out are much tighter, but I don't know
- 4:02Speaker 3: if the result would have been the same. But it's
- 4:05Speaker 3: just indicative of what this team does in these big moments.
- 4:09Speaker 3: They just they they panic within their game and then
- 4:14Speaker 3: you know all series, nobody's yelling in game five, nobody's
- 4:17Speaker 3: on the bench screaming. It looks really quiet, and all
- 4:19Speaker 3: of a sudden, Games ten seven, everybody's screaming at each
- 4:21Speaker 3: other and I'm like, what you're doing this now? Like
- 4:24Speaker 3: you're doing this now, like now's not the time, like
- 4:26Speaker 3: it should have been done in game three, game four.
- 4:29Speaker 3: You allow this to happen and then you panic in
- 4:31Speaker 3: the biggest moment in the biggest game instead of you know,
- 4:34Speaker 3: releasing some pressure from the valve and then you know,
- 4:36Speaker 3: like you said, take another sialis and get hard and
- 4:39Speaker 3: get going, because man like for them to play the
- 4:42Speaker 3: way they played in game six, they're in Florida improbable
- 4:46Speaker 3: like I was not Lyons. Nothing in the lions Den.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Minus two forty is the betting line for the Florida Panthers.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Everybody's thinking they're dead in the water. They go out
- 4:57Speaker 3: and they put on a performance, they block shots, and
- 5:00Speaker 3: what do they do in game seven? They run out
- 5:02Speaker 3: of gas once again. And the biggest thing is, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 3: you can say Toronto Maple's apolas, but there's levels in
- 5:09Speaker 3: this league if if you want to win, and Toronto
- 5:12Speaker 3: Mapleas aren't at the level to win a Stanley Cup.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yet they're not there yet. They just it's close. It
- 5:17Speaker 3: may be close, but it's not close enough. It's not there.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And if you're not there, you got to make a change.
- 5:22Speaker 3: You got to make a change at the top. It
- 5:25Speaker 3: trickles down. Brendan Shanahan is at ample time. The needs
- 5:28Speaker 3: to move on. The needs to bring in new blood.
- 5:30Speaker 3: There needs to be a new direction with this team,
- 5:33Speaker 3: and it needs to result in one or two of
- 5:35Speaker 3: the core four being gone and maybe some other bigger
- 5:37Speaker 3: pieces be gone. You need to change the identity of
- 5:40Speaker 3: this franchise because you need to get it out. It's
- 5:42Speaker 3: been enough time, It's been long enough. All these other
- 5:45Speaker 3: guys that are gonna leave, whoever leaves Marner will probably go,
- 5:49Speaker 3: maybe John Tavaras. These guys will have success in other places.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I alluded to last time Florida Panthers had a great
- 5:56Speaker 3: team when Jonathan Huberto was scoring over one hundred points.
- 5:59Speaker 3: They had a fantastic team that could have potentially won
- 6:01Speaker 3: a Stanley Cup. Bill Zito did not think it was enough.
- 6:03Speaker 3: He went and mixed huge trade Mackenzie Wieger Jonathan Huberto
- 6:07Speaker 3: for Matthew Kachuck, and it changes the identity that franchise.
- 6:09Speaker 3: They going to win a Cup. Now, I'm not saying
- 6:11Speaker 3: they wouldn't win without Huberto or Wiger, but you have
- 6:15Speaker 3: to make those decisions. You've got to put your balls
- 6:18Speaker 3: on the line, and I just don't think they they
- 6:22Speaker 3: really truly have. I don't think Brendan Channon truly has
- 6:24Speaker 3: put his balls in the line yet. I think it's
- 6:26Speaker 3: been a lot of wait and see it. Now it's
- 6:28Speaker 3: that's it, It's done. This is the last one. You
- 6:30Speaker 3: you've seen what you need to see. You cannot you
- 6:32Speaker 3: got You got blown out by Florida two years in
- 6:36Speaker 3: a row. This is and not to listen, seven games,
- 6:38Speaker 3: seven games. Anything can happen in a game seven. So
- 6:41Speaker 3: credit to them for getting there. But it's not enough
- 6:43Speaker 3: to win a Stanley Cup. And that is the only,
- 6:46Speaker 3: the only point that needs to be made.
- 6:48Speaker 1: One guy always works, as Paul Marie six and zero
- 6:50Speaker 1: Game seven's in his career, love Mos. He comes through
- 6:53Speaker 1: and gets his team prepared. Toronto's now lost seven straight.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Game seven is dating back to twenty thirteen. You mentioned
- 6:59Speaker 1: the core four, specifically, two shots for Mitch Marder, two
- 7:02Speaker 1: shots for Austin Matthews, two shots it's for Willie Nilander,
- 7:05Speaker 1: one shot for John Tavars. The core four did not
- 7:08Speaker 1: step up with the most and it leads to more
- 7:10Speaker 1: searching and more soul searching and trying to find the
- 7:13Speaker 1: right answer and back to your point. Each year there's
- 7:15Speaker 1: a different fall guy, right to an old film noir.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Who's the fall guy gonna be in the Maltese Falcons?
- 7:20Speaker 2: So in the past?
- 7:21Speaker 1: Okay, it's it's Dubis, this moron here, This is pocket protective,
- 7:24Speaker 1: this this analytical DWEP. Get him out of here, all right,
- 7:27Speaker 1: Sheldon Keith. He stinks, he doesn't know how to motivate
- 7:29Speaker 1: these guys.
- 7:30Speaker 2: He blows.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Let's bring Craig Beruby, Craig Ruby's tough man, chief former flyer.
- 7:34Speaker 2: This guy kicks ass up there. That didn't work out either.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Shit, Okay, well, as you said, you've got her of
- 7:39Speaker 1: the GM, you got her the coach players.
- 7:42Speaker 4: It's on Shanny. How is it not on Brendon Shanny?
- 7:45Speaker 4: And I respect him, I love it. How for fox sakes,
- 7:48Speaker 4: what else are we gonna do here? Curly the president
- 7:50Speaker 4: is the guy doing the team. What was he got
- 7:52Speaker 4: pictures on people? He's got a lifetime deal Shanny, It's
- 7:55Speaker 4: been fun, buddy Sea.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I mean, if you're a Panthers fan, God, you gotta
- 7:58Speaker 1: be so proud of this team. The guts, the fortitude,
- 8:01Speaker 1: the determination, give me some more synonyms like that, they
- 8:04Speaker 1: just clog up that neutral zone. Man, they lose the
- 8:06Speaker 1: first two games of this series, they don't even blake.
- 8:08Speaker 1: We're gonna win the sucker in seven. Bob's gonna be
- 8:10Speaker 1: a fortress back there.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Like.
- 8:12Speaker 1: They're an incredible hockey team to watch, top to bottom,
- 8:14Speaker 1: Like full admiration of them.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean their top players are top players. You know,
- 8:19Speaker 3: Sasha Barkovs one of the best players in the NHL,
- 8:22Speaker 3: not enough credits, super underrated, Serge Bbovski, one of the
- 8:25Speaker 3: best goalies in the NHL and one of the most clutch.
- 8:28Speaker 3: They do not have any Richard panic in their game.
- 8:30Speaker 3: They do not panic one iota. This team is you know,
- 8:35Speaker 3: they just they have leaders, they have winners, they know
- 8:38Speaker 3: what it takes. These guys are dogs on bone. They
- 8:41Speaker 3: just wear you down. I mean, if you look, and
- 8:43Speaker 3: I didn't mention this before, the amount of hits they
- 8:46Speaker 3: put on the defenseman of Tampa of Toronto, Chris tanneb
- 8:51Speaker 3: was hit over one hundred times in this playoffs, just
- 8:54Speaker 3: over a hundred times, you know me times Seth Jones
- 8:57Speaker 3: and Eric Eckblad, not even fifty, not even fifty times,
- 9:02Speaker 3: over one hundred. That will wear on you. And they
- 9:04Speaker 3: just body shot, body shot, and everybody, you know, you.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Said, that's a crazy graphics start to catch up. They
- 9:09Speaker 2: sholl try all the leafs defensemen.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You're right, the numbers are like eighty and above, just
- 9:12Speaker 1: getting massacred every time.
- 9:14Speaker 3: And when you get hit, whether it's a big hit
- 9:16Speaker 3: or a small hit, it speeds up your thought process
- 9:18Speaker 3: and your decision making process. You don't move the puck
- 9:22Speaker 3: as smoothly as you normally would because you know that
- 9:24Speaker 3: you're gonna have a body on you. S see, I
- 9:25Speaker 3: gotta speed it up. I gotta speed it up. And
- 9:27Speaker 3: the forwards are being there like why are you guys
- 9:29Speaker 3: throwing it up our ass? Like why are we getting
- 9:30Speaker 3: bad passes? It's like because no one's slowing down these guys.
- 9:34Speaker 3: And this is what they do. They just over a
- 9:36Speaker 3: seven game series. Uh, they just wear you down as
- 9:39Speaker 3: a defenseman. And there's nothing worse that even if it's
- 9:41Speaker 3: not a hard hit, somebody's rubbing in you every single
- 9:44Speaker 3: time to go back and get that puck over a
- 9:46Speaker 3: seven game series, you will be fatigue, You'll big exhausted.
- 9:48Speaker 3: And you look at the d man on the Florida Panthers,
- 9:51Speaker 3: huge games tonight. Look at the demon They're the highest
- 9:53Speaker 3: scoring defense cores in the Stanley Cup playoffs if over
- 9:56Speaker 3: twelve goals by defenseman.
- 9:58Speaker 2: All right, so that does it with the guards the
- 10:00Speaker 2: Panthers in the Maple Leafs.
- 10:01Speaker 1: As far as the Dallas Stars are concerned, they do
- 10:02Speaker 1: indeed advance third straight, heading to the Western Conference Final
- 10:06Speaker 1: for the second street will we being the Edmonton Oilers
- 10:08Speaker 1: in the Final four thanks to Thomas Harley's overtime winner
- 10:12Speaker 1: ninety three seconds into extra time in Game six. And
- 10:16Speaker 1: it's interesting. One of the keys to me, obviously JD,
- 10:18Speaker 1: was that Jake Ottinger saved. He was rock solid the
- 10:21Speaker 1: entire game. Twelve goals in the entire six game series.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That save on Mason Appleton. You look for a defining
- 10:27Speaker 1: moment in the series. You know, this wasn't the series
- 10:29Speaker 1: where you go, okay. We kept saying, could Connor Helbook
- 10:32Speaker 1: win a game on the road, could he finally overcome
- 10:34Speaker 1: his Demons. He wasn't the reason they lost. The Jets
- 10:37Speaker 1: didn't score, but that youre save as good as it gets.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Incredible moment.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Yeah, Listen, Jake Gottinger won that series more than I
- 10:45Speaker 3: think Winnipeg lost it. I just think I was one
- 10:50Speaker 3: of the harder people on Connor hellibook all season, all
- 10:54Speaker 3: playoffs on the road. His last two games on the
- 10:57Speaker 3: road was were fantastic. He just could not get the
- 11:00Speaker 3: run support. And we kind of talked about it on
- 11:02Speaker 3: the network, like, I don't know if it's if the
- 11:05Speaker 3: team is just so worried about the losing record on
- 11:08Speaker 3: the road that they just tried to play such a
- 11:09Speaker 3: tight game, but they were getting offensive zone scoring chances
- 11:12Speaker 3: the last two games on the road in that series.
- 11:14Speaker 3: But man, Jake Ottinger is something special and his he's
- 11:19Speaker 3: kind of they've been waiting for him to kind of arrive,
- 11:21Speaker 3: and you know, he's had some good playoffs, but nothing
- 11:24Speaker 3: like you know, eye opening of why he should be
- 11:29Speaker 3: the number one guy, you know, moving forward in the
- 11:31Speaker 3: Olympics and anytime for Team USA and why they brought
- 11:35Speaker 3: him into be a franchise goalie. And he showed him
- 11:37Speaker 3: this series. He came alive. There's a lot of guys
- 11:39Speaker 3: that had breakout rounds for the Dallas Stars, and he
- 11:43Speaker 3: was one of them. And I still think people arguing say, well,
- 11:46Speaker 3: he's been to the conference finals this and I'm like, no, no,
- 11:48Speaker 3: that this is He's put on a statement in the
- 11:50Speaker 3: first two rounds.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And as far as another guy who put on a
- 11:53Speaker 1: statement as Thomas Arlot, we've talked about before, how good
- 11:55Speaker 1: he is, how this was his coming out part of
- 11:57Speaker 1: the four Nations. He sets up Sam Steele's time goal
- 12:00Speaker 1: in the second period before he got this series quincher.
- 12:03Speaker 2: So obviously Harley, this was a big moment frame as well.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Well that what more can you say about a guy
- 12:08Speaker 3: that steps up in the absence of Miro Hayskin. And
- 12:11Speaker 3: the reason they were allowed to let Mero get fully
- 12:14Speaker 3: healthy and come back was because of Thomas Harley. If
- 12:17Speaker 3: it's not for Thomas Harley, they probably have to rush him.
- 12:19Speaker 3: They don't win. He is as big a piece to
- 12:22Speaker 3: that team as Jake Ottinger. And you know, you can
- 12:25Speaker 3: really luck out when you get a one A, one
- 12:27Speaker 3: B defenseman on a team, and those are so hard
- 12:29Speaker 3: to find. You look at teams that they their whole
- 12:32Speaker 3: franchise is based on they cannot find a number one
- 12:36Speaker 3: defenseman and Dallas has two of them. And you know,
- 12:40Speaker 3: and also we can't say enough about Mero Hayskin and
- 12:42Speaker 3: coming back and logging just enormous minutes last game. I
- 12:46Speaker 3: think it's like over twenty two minutes. And he has
- 12:49Speaker 3: just been you know, for a guy to be out
- 12:51Speaker 3: for three and a half months come back and be
- 12:53Speaker 3: as effective as he's been is a testament to him.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Like there's not many guys like if you're out three
- 12:58Speaker 3: and a half months, ad Nan, like you're not getting
- 13:01Speaker 3: a look in the playoffs, little and like you gotta
- 13:03Speaker 3: go down to the minor, you got to. Like, but
- 13:05Speaker 3: a guy like that is so good and so hockey
- 13:08Speaker 3: IQ high in such an effortless skater that he's able
- 13:11Speaker 3: to do that. But yeah, back to Thomas Harley, like
- 13:13Speaker 3: just a breakout season, you know what a year he's
- 13:17Speaker 3: had four nations kind of leading this team in the
- 13:21Speaker 3: Dallas Stars. And now look out because this is a
- 13:24Speaker 3: fully healthy Dallas Stars team that last year against Edmonton
- 13:28Speaker 3: was not fully healthy and that's kind of what did
- 13:30Speaker 3: the men in that series. So this is gonna be intersting.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Hayston twenty three minutes forty seconds. In Game six, Harley
- 13:37Speaker 1: played twenty five minutes for the Jets. We'll get to
- 13:40Speaker 1: Shifley playing with a heavy heart and an enormous effort
- 13:43Speaker 1: in just a second. But for the Jets overall, ten
- 13:45Speaker 1: straight road playoff losses you alluded to, does it get
- 13:48Speaker 1: in their head to the fact they just can't win
- 13:49Speaker 1: away from Canada Life Center. But you gotta look at
- 13:52Speaker 1: the mirror and say, Okay, you've now lost all those
- 13:54Speaker 1: games I just mentioned. You're finished regular season fifty six wins,
- 13:57Speaker 1: one hundred and sixteen points.
- 13:59Speaker 2: A lot of questions answered. Nikolai Egler's unrestricted phase.
- 14:02Speaker 1: He's not going to be back, gave the already restricted
- 14:05Speaker 1: free agent do for a nice raise.
- 14:07Speaker 2: How do you tinker with the team? JD. How do
- 14:08Speaker 2: you get the Jets the next level?
- 14:09Speaker 1: And there's so incredible the regular season and they can't
- 14:12Speaker 1: get to a conference final.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think now's the time to overspend. I think
- 14:16Speaker 3: this is a big offseason for them. I think they're
- 14:18Speaker 3: gonna have cap space. They need to spend that money.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I don't think Nicola Eelers I haven't heard anything of him.
- 14:25Speaker 3: He's going to get overpaid somewhere and rightfully so I
- 14:28Speaker 3: think he's a fantastic player. If you're looking at him
- 14:31Speaker 3: versus Mitch Marner, I'm taking nickol Eilers at three million
- 14:34Speaker 3: cheaper and probably going to be happier with him. He
- 14:37Speaker 3: was a dog in these playoffs. I don't think he
- 14:39Speaker 3: He just improved his capital and his his trade and
- 14:43Speaker 3: not as sorry as free agency value. So he's going
- 14:45Speaker 3: to test the market. But they got to go out
- 14:47Speaker 3: and sign a big player. They got to make a move,
- 14:50Speaker 3: or they got to trade trade picks and bring somebody
- 14:54Speaker 3: in because they're cut. They're right there, they're just they're
- 14:56Speaker 3: missing I think one more forward, you know, and but
- 15:02Speaker 3: you look at it, it's just one of those head
- 15:03Speaker 3: scratchers that I just think they ran in. They're in
- 15:07Speaker 3: that central division that if they're in the Pacific, they
- 15:09Speaker 3: probably cruise through the Pacific, but they're in the Central
- 15:11Speaker 3: and it's so tough to come out of there. It's
- 15:13Speaker 3: just a war. I think that Saint Louis series took
- 15:16Speaker 3: a lot out of them. Obviously they lose Josh Morrissey
- 15:18Speaker 3: in that game that looked it looked horrendous. What happened,
- 15:20Speaker 3: So that was a big loss for them, and they
- 15:23Speaker 3: just kind of at the wrong time, got some injuries
- 15:25Speaker 3: and obviously some horrible news. But it's a team that
- 15:28Speaker 3: I think is you can guarantee they'll be back at
- 15:32Speaker 3: the top of the heap next year. And but I
- 15:34Speaker 3: think it's a big an offseason for them, Like they
- 15:36Speaker 3: need to really find somebody to come in and you know,
- 15:40Speaker 3: find some depth scoring and some depth pieces because a
- 15:42Speaker 3: lot of that, a lot of that burden offensively falls
- 15:45Speaker 3: in that first line, and I think there's there's just
- 15:48Speaker 3: some holes in the depth that they need they can
- 15:50Speaker 3: they can bring in and shore up. I like their decor,
- 15:52Speaker 3: I do. I like they got to resign Samberg. I'm
- 15:55Speaker 3: pretty sure he's going to get off for sheeted, so
- 15:57Speaker 3: they got to make sure they get somebody that they
- 16:00Speaker 3: got to pay him and he's number one because I
- 16:02Speaker 3: thought he really improved euro every year and this is
- 16:05Speaker 3: going to be the This is going to be an
- 16:07Speaker 3: offseason for them. And then lastly, they need to get
- 16:10Speaker 3: a real true backup goalie they need.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We've learned something with hell of it here, Like I'm
- 16:18Speaker 1: glad that, as you said, Game four game with three goals.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Game five pitches shut up.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Game six played well, so you can't see the rest
- 16:24Speaker 1: of the seris was lost by him. But clearly stop let
- 16:27Speaker 1: them play so much in the regular season, right fifty five?
- 16:30Speaker 3: That's it? Like what what are you chasing? What do
- 16:32Speaker 3: you need to feel better? Like it's in listen his
- 16:35Speaker 3: styles conducive to you know, they say that he's not
- 16:39Speaker 3: you know, it's it's not as fatiguing and it's not
- 16:41Speaker 3: as tiring, but it doesn't matter mentally the weight and
- 16:44Speaker 3: emotionally of playing these NHL hockey games over and over
- 16:47Speaker 3: again and then going and trying to find another level
- 16:49Speaker 3: in the playoffs, like you need to find And that's
- 16:51Speaker 3: the other thing. If you want to play that much great,
- 16:53Speaker 3: you need a legitimate one bee that can come in
- 16:55Speaker 3: the playoffs if shit goes south, and which happened a
- 16:59Speaker 3: few times in these playoffs for Winnipeg, and I think
- 17:01Speaker 3: it made it a lot harder on them to get
- 17:05Speaker 3: out of that first round. In parts of the second round,
- 17:07Speaker 3: I think if they weren't so hung up on you know,
- 17:10Speaker 3: Hella Buck's road record and how he is on the road,
- 17:13Speaker 3: I think they probably do better. So they need a
- 17:14Speaker 3: guy that they can pull him early, and like a
- 17:17Speaker 3: little bit like Edmonton with Skinner and Picard, you need
- 17:20Speaker 3: a guy that you can trust, because they obviously showed
- 17:22Speaker 3: they don't trust air Comray at all.
- 17:24Speaker 2: No doubt about that.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And as far as playing with a heavy heart, I mean,
- 17:27Speaker 1: this is an amazing job by Winnipeg's.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Ander Mark Stifley. He plays and opens the screen with
- 17:33Speaker 2: the Jets.
- 17:33Speaker 1: This is literally hours after it to be able that
- 17:35Speaker 1: his father brought unexpectedly passed away on Friday night. So
- 17:39Speaker 1: Shifley goes out there and was able to play a
- 17:42Speaker 1: whale of a game. He really just can't imagine what
- 17:44Speaker 1: it's going through his mind. I thought this was particularly notable,
- 17:46Speaker 1: Producer Tal pointing out some Dallas Stars fans took to
- 17:49Speaker 1: the Internet to encourage one of them to donate fifty
- 17:52Speaker 1: five dollars, which is Shafey's number, to the True North
- 17:55Speaker 1: Youth Foundation and Kidsport Canada, both cherries supported by Shafeley.
- 17:59Speaker 1: That's a big time classman by Dallas.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Makes you think about.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Brett Farv very famously lost his father when the Monday
- 18:04Speaker 1: Night football went out there, I feel like four touchdowns
- 18:07Speaker 1: are three hundred yards, said this is what my dad
- 18:08Speaker 1: would have wanted. You often to hear players say that, JD,
- 18:10Speaker 1: It's what my dad would have wanted to be out there.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But I think it's still a courageous moment and more
- 18:15Speaker 1: respect to Mark Schite to what he was able to
- 18:17Speaker 1: do out there.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a man. It's tough because you know, I
- 18:21Speaker 3: was talking to my mom about it today and my
- 18:24Speaker 3: dad too. It's like, you know, your your parents see
- 18:27Speaker 3: your first NHL game and most of the times you
- 18:29Speaker 3: know you're you're lucky enough that they see your last
- 18:31Speaker 3: NHL game. So you know, hell of a job by
- 18:36Speaker 3: him for you know, playing and honoring his father by
- 18:39Speaker 3: doing that. That to your point, courageous act. But yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 3: it's it's tough because you know they're the people that
- 18:45Speaker 3: support you. They are with you every step of the
- 18:48Speaker 3: way through your NHL career and leading up to it,
- 18:50Speaker 3: so to not be able to see it through with
- 18:54Speaker 3: them as well as you know, listen, it's it's a
- 18:56Speaker 3: parent You never want to see your your parents go suddenly.
- 18:59Speaker 3: And you know, during a time like that where you're
- 19:02Speaker 3: you know, still playing and you're still kind of occupied,
- 19:05Speaker 3: you want to be able to have as much time
- 19:07Speaker 3: as you can, and that's the biggest thing. So that
- 19:08Speaker 3: loss of time is is the saddest part about this.
- 19:12Speaker 3: But you know, for him to go out and play,
- 19:14Speaker 3: and again, hats off to the Dallas Stars fans for
- 19:16Speaker 3: what they did. That's amazing and a really classy move.
- 19:19Speaker 3: But you know, it's a loss of a parent's never easy.
- 19:22Speaker 3: And you know, I thought he handled himself so admirably
- 19:26Speaker 3: and for him to score, you know, I saw a
- 19:28Speaker 3: tweet of like that was Mark Schaeffer assisted by Brad Shaifeley,
- 19:31Speaker 3: and that's just something that's so cool. You know, he
- 19:34Speaker 3: was looking down and smiling and you know that's how
- 19:37Speaker 3: the only way he probably knew how to honor his
- 19:40Speaker 3: father in that moment, and it was something his dad
- 19:42Speaker 3: probably would have wanted. So you know, hearts go out
- 19:44Speaker 3: to him big time, and he's I know him personally,
- 19:47Speaker 3: he's a good kid, and I'm sure that's tough one
- 19:50Speaker 3: and it's never it's never easy seeing that hearing that,
- 19:53Speaker 3: or even I can only imagine what he must have
- 19:56Speaker 3: been going through.
- 19:57Speaker 1: That's all I said. That's a great tweet as well.
- 19:58Speaker 1: So the when I picked Jets are no longer moving on.
- 20:01Speaker 1: We'll do our second round previous in just a second,
- 20:03Speaker 1: but first special guest ever wondered the creation of the
- 20:07Speaker 1: Soup Nazi?
- 20:08Speaker 2: How did the Elaine Dance come to be?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Spike Ferriston wrote some the most iconic Seinfeld episodes, a
- 20:14Speaker 1: worked on David Letterman for years. The difference is between
- 20:17Speaker 1: Jerry and Dave. All that more coming up. We're throwing
- 20:20Speaker 1: a little curveball here. Spike Ferrison's coming up after this
- 20:23Speaker 1: on NHL and scripted our next guest. An accomplished writer
- 20:37Speaker 1: and comedian best known for his work on Seinfeld and
- 20:39Speaker 1: both of David Letterman's late night shows. He's also written
- 20:42Speaker 1: for The Simpsons, The Dana Carvey Show, and Space Ghost
- 20:45Speaker 1: Coast to Coast. He was the host of Talk Show
- 20:46Speaker 1: with Spike Ferristone and Fox and now hosts Spike's Car Radio.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It's Spike Ferristons. Spike, it's great to see you man.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Thank you so much for the time.
- 20:54Speaker 6: Yeah, good to be here, guys.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Let's start first off with car Radio.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Great guests out of the gates, Carol Lee for obviously
- 21:00Speaker 1: Jerry Seinfeld, good friends of yours.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Where did this concept come from?
- 21:04Speaker 5: This came from Jerry and I and a couple of
- 21:08Speaker 5: friends taking drive every weekend out to Malibu, and you know,
- 21:13Speaker 5: we would stop and get coffee and sandwiches at this
- 21:16Speaker 5: little deli, and we noticed people were kind of leaning in.
- 21:19Speaker 5: And once someone even transcribed our conversation and put it
- 21:23Speaker 5: in the Malibu Times, And while Jerry was a little
- 21:26Speaker 5: upset about it, I.
- 21:27Speaker 6: Said, you know, I think this could be an opportunity.
- 21:29Speaker 5: People really want to listen to our stupid conversations while
- 21:32Speaker 5: we record them and see if we can find a following.
- 21:35Speaker 5: And here we are in our eighth year and we
- 21:38Speaker 5: just launched on YouTube, and I guess people think of
- 21:41Speaker 5: us as a downloadable cars and coffee that really, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 5: covers entertainment, comedy, cars in the southern California automotive scene.
- 21:51Speaker 6: I think it's the best way to describe it.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Spike's car Radio again.
- 21:54Speaker 1: We're talking to Spike Ferriston right now on Obviously we're
- 21:56Speaker 1: all Seinfeld fan. Spike, my brother's a massive Seinfeld guy.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So I text him earlier I said I'm talking to Spike,
- 22:01Speaker 1: which I asked him, and he goes hey. In the
- 22:03Speaker 1: Soup Nazi episode, apparently Spike actually witnessed a cusher the
- 22:06Speaker 1: real life Souper Kitchen comprying the actual guy to al
- 22:09Speaker 1: Pacino can verify that.
- 22:11Speaker 6: Yes, that really happened.
- 22:13Speaker 5: A very unfortunate woman in front of me said to
- 22:18Speaker 5: the real soup Nazi New York on fifty fifth and eighth,
- 22:21Speaker 5: you know you kind of look like al Pacino. In
- 22:23Speaker 5: the episode, he says a different line than he said
- 22:26Speaker 5: in real life.
- 22:28Speaker 6: In real life, it was.
- 22:30Speaker 5: A stream of expletives that I will spare you. It
- 22:34Speaker 5: was really horrible, and I felt really awful for the woman,
- 22:37Speaker 5: but but true to form, myself and everybody in the
- 22:40Speaker 5: line just kind of turned away and pretended we didn't hear.
- 22:44Speaker 1: That's what most brilliant episodes I've ever written, and it
- 22:47Speaker 1: proves against Spike comedy comes from real life sources.
- 22:50Speaker 5: You sometimes, yeah, sometimes, yeah, sometimes, But a lot of
- 22:54Speaker 5: that is real, A lot of that that happened in there,
- 22:56Speaker 5: And and Larry and Jerry were you know, it's great
- 22:59Speaker 5: that they put it on because they could have changed
- 23:02Speaker 5: a lot of it. And I would go, you know,
- 23:03Speaker 5: that's real and this is real, and they go, okay,
- 23:05Speaker 5: let's do it. It's funny enough.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Is there any other episodes that stand out to you?
- 23:10Speaker 3: I know there's wig Master, muffin Top stuff like that,
- 23:12Speaker 3: But is there one that stands out more than because
- 23:14Speaker 3: you get the most acclaim is souper Nazi, But you know,
- 23:17Speaker 3: there's so many other amazing ones that you kind of
- 23:19Speaker 3: partook and helped write.
- 23:21Speaker 5: You know, the Elaine Dance seems to get a lot
- 23:24Speaker 5: of play, you know, Little Kicks, the Brooklyn Cyclones.
- 23:28Speaker 6: Every summer the Mets minor league team have an.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Alaye dance thing, and I see it on the internet
- 23:33Speaker 5: all the time, which is really fun, you know, But
- 23:36Speaker 5: I had no idea we were writing things that we'd
- 23:38Speaker 5: be talking about with you guys. You're just trying not
- 23:42Speaker 5: to get fired. You're like, Okay, well this is guy.
- 23:45Speaker 5: I know he's got a terrible dancer.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Little Kicks. Great, let's try that. Let's do it, you know,
- 23:50Speaker 6: go ahead. That was the fun of the show, you know.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Larry said early on, I don't want you guys to
- 23:55Speaker 5: come in and make up stories. I want you to
- 23:58Speaker 5: tell me stories from last night. You went on a date,
- 24:00Speaker 5: you went to a party, and this happened. You haven't
- 24:02Speaker 5: stopped thinking about it, and you're polite, guys. I'm sure
- 24:05Speaker 5: you did the right thing. But what did you want
- 24:07Speaker 5: to do? What did you want to say? What did
- 24:10Speaker 5: you think about doing next? He said, that's where the
- 24:13Speaker 5: stories for this show are, and it was the perfect advice.
- 24:17Speaker 2: You know, it is great advice.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I know you weren't involved with the episode The Face Painter,
- 24:21Speaker 1: but it's a hockey podcast, so just c respect any stories.
- 24:24Speaker 1: David Putty the Devil's Fandom Tonic episode.
- 24:28Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I loved anything with David Putty embarrassing Elaine.
- 24:33Speaker 5: That was always the most fun because, you know, with
- 24:36Speaker 5: the eight ball jacket is a good example that, like
- 24:39Speaker 5: when I was living in New York, there are two
- 24:41Speaker 5: things that would upset me on my walk to work,
- 24:43Speaker 5: men wearing fur coats. I just is like, I don't
- 24:46Speaker 5: I don't understand what this is and I needed to stop.
- 24:50Speaker 5: And then the eight ball jacket was another one. This
- 24:52Speaker 5: this horrible.
- 24:54Speaker 6: You know, I'd be on the.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Subway and go, what the effort is this guy?
- 24:57Speaker 2: Dude?
- 24:58Speaker 5: Does he know how bad he looks? And with Putty,
- 25:02Speaker 5: I thought, well, there's that guy. I can i and
- 25:04Speaker 5: start putting this stuff on him and maybe help New
- 25:07Speaker 5: York not have to experience this, you know, by you know,
- 25:12Speaker 5: embarrassing everybody who's wearing them in New York.
- 25:14Speaker 6: But I think it's now had the opposite effect.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Maybe to add NAT's point of us being a hockey podcast,
- 25:22Speaker 3: and you know, we're both just huge fans of all
- 25:24Speaker 3: your works, so we're like, I screw the hockey. But
- 25:26Speaker 3: you know, you grew up in mass and that's a
- 25:29Speaker 3: huge sports town. Yeah, do you kind of have any
- 25:32Speaker 3: memories of growing up and was hockey kind of ever
- 25:34Speaker 3: part of your life in any semblance or any form.
- 25:37Speaker 5: There's no real life in Massachusetts other than sports. So
- 25:42Speaker 5: very early on, if you know, I was thinking about
- 25:45Speaker 5: it and I knew would get get to this point,
- 25:47Speaker 5: and I was thinking, I grew up on a street,
- 25:49Speaker 5: like there were three streets of boys. So you would
- 25:52Speaker 5: go to school, you'd play school sports, you'd come home
- 25:54Speaker 5: and you played every single sport played, including ice hockey
- 25:59Speaker 5: and street hockey mostly, and there's only you know, for me,
- 26:03Speaker 5: I'm a little older, there was only one guy. Bobby
- 26:06Speaker 5: Orr was the guy in you know, Massachusetts who you
- 26:10Speaker 5: wanted to be. And the Bruins hadn't won for all
- 26:12Speaker 5: of those years. I don't It might have been as
- 26:15Speaker 5: far back as the forties and then you know, I
- 26:18Speaker 5: think I was two years old maybe when they got
- 26:20Speaker 5: Bobby Orr on the team, and then in nineteen seventy
- 26:23Speaker 5: they won the Stanley Cup, and then again seventy two,
- 26:26Speaker 5: maybe somewhere around there, and you know, so you know,
- 26:29Speaker 5: for me, it was funny because when we would play
- 26:32Speaker 5: these games, we were all Bobby Orr and if you
- 26:35Speaker 5: were the goalie, you were Gordy Howe. So there's two
- 26:41Speaker 5: Gordy Howe's and all Bobby Orr's were all playing each
- 26:44Speaker 5: other in hockey. And now you know, I have a
- 26:48Speaker 5: kid in high school who plays lacrosse, which I knew
- 26:51Speaker 5: nothing about, and I've had had to have a crash
- 26:53Speaker 5: course in that, and I find that's very much. He
- 26:55Speaker 5: plays box lacrosse in the fall in the summer, and lacrosse,
- 26:59Speaker 5: you know, they just wrapped their season and won the championship.
- 27:02Speaker 5: But it's very much like hockey, you know, you know,
- 27:05Speaker 5: penalty boxes and the rest of it.
- 27:07Speaker 6: So you know, it's funny.
- 27:09Speaker 5: I've started thinking about hockey again because of lacrosse.
- 27:13Speaker 1: No, it's a great point. Steve Levy, of course from ESPN,
- 27:16Speaker 1: was our recent guest. He was telling us difference in Boston,
- 27:18Speaker 1: New York he said, New York. You know, there's obviously
- 27:20Speaker 1: a great sports fan, so they're passionate, especially in the building,
- 27:23Speaker 1: but seventy five percent of people might be fans of
- 27:25Speaker 1: Broadway or foodies, etcetera.
- 27:26Speaker 2: And yeah, yeah, everyone's a sports fan. Everywhere you go
- 27:29Speaker 2: you see a Red Sox's.
- 27:30Speaker 6: Well, there's a reason that we don't have anything else.
- 27:34Speaker 5: We've got We've got we've got decent clam chowder, bluefish
- 27:40Speaker 5: in this summer, and then sports. And it's like, you know,
- 27:44Speaker 5: it's one of the funniest things is the women as
- 27:47Speaker 5: they get older, they become massive sports fans. Like my
- 27:52Speaker 5: mom is in her eighties, she's eighty six right now,
- 27:55Speaker 5: and in April, I said, how do the Red Sox look?
- 27:58Speaker 5: And she could have she could have guessed it on
- 28:00Speaker 5: this show the next thirty minutes of her appraisal of
- 28:03Speaker 5: who is traded?
- 28:04Speaker 6: Who coming on? What's happening? Where I think it's going?
- 28:06Speaker 2: I was, I was shocked.
- 28:07Speaker 6: This woman never went to one of my.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Baseball games growing up, and it's so funny to watch
- 28:14Speaker 5: it happen. And you know, I used to bartend in
- 28:16Speaker 5: Boston to put myself through college, and I would meet
- 28:19Speaker 5: these you know these folks, these Red Sox fans in particular,
- 28:23Speaker 5: these guys, these men and women who are like in
- 28:25Speaker 5: their eighties, who were like, I'm staying alive. I'm staying
- 28:29Speaker 5: alive in the hopes that the Red Sox will win.
- 28:32Speaker 5: And they're not smiling. It's not a joke. They're like,
- 28:35Speaker 5: this is what's carrying me forward. I'll bet you if
- 28:39Speaker 5: you looked at the stats of two thousand and four,
- 28:41Speaker 5: it was a big die off. Yeah, they were like,
- 28:47Speaker 5: all right, I'm out, hold on in two thousand and seven.
- 28:49Speaker 6: No, I'm gone.
- 28:51Speaker 5: But yeah, we love sports because it's it's cold and
- 28:54Speaker 5: it's miserable there and it brings us so much joy,
- 28:58Speaker 5: you know.
- 28:59Speaker 3: I mean my years in Worcester, mass were a lot
- 29:03Speaker 3: of cold at hockey. And yeah, yeah, I want to
- 29:07Speaker 3: kind of put you on the spot and you know,
- 29:09Speaker 3: your gear heads, and then I also want to say,
- 29:12Speaker 3: if you were to kind of compare a car to
- 29:15Speaker 3: the NHL or hockey, what would that car be in
- 29:20Speaker 3: you know, if that that's me putting on you on
- 29:22Speaker 3: the spot as much as I can, but what would
- 29:23Speaker 3: that car be to you? Something that kind of personifies
- 29:27Speaker 3: and embodies hockey in your eyes.
- 29:29Speaker 5: Well, there's there's a great new event that Porsche puts
- 29:35Speaker 5: on with one of the Porsche kids firty and it's
- 29:42Speaker 5: called a fat ice race, and it it goes. It's it's,
- 29:46Speaker 5: it's it's like they they have beautiful old cars like
- 29:50Speaker 5: five fifties and three fifty six's, sometimes with spikes on
- 29:53Speaker 5: the tires and they they drag people on skis behind
- 29:58Speaker 5: them and have these races twice a year. It's an
- 30:01Speaker 5: amazing event. And you know, Porsche has a there there
- 30:04Speaker 5: there there have always been ice races, and a friend
- 30:08Speaker 5: of mine owned a car, a three fifty six that
- 30:11Speaker 5: has they there are these like rubber tires with these
- 30:13Speaker 5: big spikes on them and they race on ice. I
- 30:17Speaker 5: mean to me, that's that's as hockey as you can get.
- 30:20Speaker 5: You know, you're just flying around a track on ice
- 30:23Speaker 5: with giant spikes on your tire. The Swedes do it.
- 30:27Speaker 5: It's you know, it's it's it's a big thing in
- 30:29Speaker 5: the Nordic countries. But that's your hockey. I don't know
- 30:33Speaker 5: if anybody's fighting. I guess the La freeways are the fights.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Yeah. I like the studs on the tires a little rough.
- 30:41Speaker 5: Yeah, The studs on the tires. Yeah, yeah, we get
- 30:44Speaker 5: a lot of a lot of rage here.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Now you mentioned let him in earlier one of your bosses.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Of course, Dave is a huge gear have we know
- 30:50Speaker 1: how much he loves auto racing and all this years,
- 30:52Speaker 1: I remember I haven't worked at ESPN. He's going to
- 30:54Speaker 1: tell me. You know, this is like eighties. You couldn't
- 30:57Speaker 1: get certain races. So Dave would drive to Bristol, Connecticut.
- 30:59Speaker 1: They let him in the backyard just so we could
- 31:01Speaker 1: watch the races. He was he was that much of
- 31:02Speaker 1: an enthusiast one oh yeah, f one or you know
- 31:06Speaker 1: at that time Indy car.
- 31:07Speaker 2: But I wanted to ask specifically.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Darren Demiterio is a friend of mine who worked at
- 31:10Speaker 1: the years ago to USPN.
- 31:11Speaker 2: He worked on Late Joe.
- 31:12Speaker 1: He was one of the guest bookers, and he said
- 31:14Speaker 1: I didn't interact much with Dave. We'd see him once
- 31:15Speaker 1: a year, you know, the Holliday party. Say allow kind
- 31:17Speaker 1: of thing, he said, But but he did have some
- 31:18Speaker 1: great moments with guests, and he says his favorite single
- 31:21Speaker 1: moment working for years and Late Night with David Letter
- 31:23Speaker 1: was he met Don Rickles the first time he's in
- 31:25Speaker 1: the brain or whatever. And the next time Don Rickles,
- 31:27Speaker 1: this is like three years later, Don Nichols.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Is there and Darren's keeping in company. I have a
- 31:31Speaker 2: Rickles season without missing a meating. He goes, and by
- 31:33Speaker 2: the way, Darren's about five for five. He goes, im,
- 31:36Speaker 2: gross is the last time I saw you?
- 31:37Speaker 1: And he goes, you know, being insaulted by Don Rickles
- 31:40Speaker 1: was like such a badge of honor for him.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Working on that show, what memories not necessarily just of Dave,
- 31:46Speaker 1: but of the guests and the people around him.
- 31:47Speaker 5: Well, Dave, I remember doing a charity go cut race,
- 31:50Speaker 5: you know, with a lawnmower, engines and stuff for charity
- 31:53Speaker 5: on his Saturday. And we're down we're down Wall Street
- 31:57Speaker 5: area and the phone is ringing and and it's Dave
- 32:00Speaker 5: calling up Rob Burnett and I'm like, what is Dave?
- 32:03Speaker 5: What is he? He goes, he he wants us to
- 32:06Speaker 5: win this race. And I'm laughing. He goes, I'm serious.
- 32:09Speaker 5: He goes, he doesn't want us to come in fifth.
- 32:11Speaker 6: Go does he know what we're doing here? We're racing
- 32:14Speaker 6: against Applebee's in coke.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Cards just to raise awareness for MS or something. He goes, Yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 5: you gotta win. We got to find a way to win.
- 32:25Speaker 5: And he had He had called me down in the
- 32:27Speaker 5: office earlier that week and and you know, walked into
- 32:30Speaker 5: my office, which was rare.
- 32:31Speaker 6: You know.
- 32:32Speaker 5: He was on the fourteenth floor. I was on the
- 32:34Speaker 5: twelfth floor. And I look over and he sits down
- 32:36Speaker 5: and he goes, uh. He goes, so what are we
- 32:39Speaker 5: doing to win the race? And I, you know, well,
- 32:41Speaker 5: we'll studying the line of the track and the orange cones. David,
- 32:45Speaker 5: he goes, no, seriously, he goes, why are you here?
- 32:49Speaker 5: And I go, I got to write the top ten list.
- 32:52Speaker 5: He goes, no, he goes, you got to get out
- 32:54Speaker 5: to the race shops in Long Island and figure out
- 32:56Speaker 5: how to win this cut?
- 32:57Speaker 6: Dam are you are you asking me to cheat?
- 33:02Speaker 5: He goes, I didn't say that, but there's a gray area.
- 33:08Speaker 5: And so I left the office that day and went
- 33:11Speaker 5: out and started, you know, talking to these guys in
- 33:14Speaker 5: these race shops.
- 33:15Speaker 6: I didn't even know what these places were.
- 33:17Speaker 5: And came back with like different springs for the throttle
- 33:21Speaker 5: and different racing plugs. And the best hack was this
- 33:25Speaker 5: purple racing gas that was under and twenty outat or
- 33:29Speaker 5: something and uh, and we you know, we we fixed
- 33:33Speaker 5: up the cart and my cart won.
- 33:35Speaker 6: We we won.
- 33:39Speaker 5: We were just blasting everybody. And at the end of
- 33:43Speaker 5: the race, the judges came over and they I go,
- 33:46Speaker 5: what do they do? They go, they got to inspect
- 33:47Speaker 5: the cart, and I went, oh, man, and they looked
- 33:51Speaker 5: at it, looked at the spark plugs, they took out
- 33:53Speaker 5: the gas, they saw the color, and then they came
- 33:55Speaker 5: over and they said, you're you're being.
- 33:59Speaker 6: Busted down a fifth place for what is the charity event.
- 34:06Speaker 6: He goes, We're not disqualifying you, but we're giving you
- 34:09Speaker 6: best uniforms.
- 34:13Speaker 5: And so if you watch the show the following Monday,
- 34:16Speaker 5: that's what that's what.
- 34:18Speaker 6: Dave congratulated us for uniform but he.
- 34:21Speaker 5: Wasn't he wasn't unhappy because we had done, you know,
- 34:24Speaker 5: what we set out to do, and we did win.
- 34:26Speaker 5: We just didn't get the trophy, but boy does he
- 34:30Speaker 5: care about racing.
- 34:32Speaker 3: That's that's unbelievable. Kind of what other differences did you
- 34:36Speaker 3: find working with Letterman And then also you know Jerry
- 34:38Speaker 3: Seinfeld Larry David like, how how was that kind of
- 34:42Speaker 3: just experience and how many little subtleties were the same
- 34:46Speaker 3: between them or just was it just completely different between both.
- 34:49Speaker 6: Oh, very very different.
- 34:51Speaker 5: But like any business, everything trickles down from the top, right,
- 34:55Speaker 5: you know, it's a culture that's kind of run by
- 34:57Speaker 5: the guy up top. And both of those places I
- 35:00Speaker 5: remembers being so fun, you know, Dave there, there were
- 35:05Speaker 5: just you know, instead of working sometimes in a conference room,
- 35:09Speaker 5: I would be in the hallway with this big driver
- 35:13Speaker 5: that John Daly had given Dave, that Dave had given me,
- 35:17Speaker 5: just driving golf balls into the wall with some of
- 35:20Speaker 5: the writers were getting big holes into the wall. And
- 35:25Speaker 5: you know, at the time, you know, GE and NBC
- 35:29Speaker 5: owned the show, so no one cared about the offices,
- 35:31Speaker 5: and you know, it was it was like that. And
- 35:34Speaker 5: then we'd go, hey, maybe there's a bit and hitting
- 35:36Speaker 5: golf balls. Maybe we can take snowmobiles on top of
- 35:38Speaker 5: a parking garage. It was always mischief in the office
- 35:42Speaker 5: and then on the show, you know, And that was
- 35:45Speaker 5: so fun for me because I was always getting in
- 35:48Speaker 5: trouble in high school and college for these things, and
- 35:51Speaker 5: now I was being paid to do it, you know,
- 35:54Speaker 5: and you know, yeah, it was a way of turning
- 35:57Speaker 5: a big negative in my life into a job.
- 36:02Speaker 1: One more for you, Spike, tow's a big the Data
- 36:04Speaker 1: Carvey Show. He wanted to ask you about it, Go
- 36:06Speaker 1: ahead tell you, yeah, yeah.
- 36:07Speaker 7: I mean, I'm sure, Spike, you get asked about a
- 36:09Speaker 7: lot of different shows you worked on. But I feel
- 36:12Speaker 7: like the Dana Carvey Show has taken on sort of
- 36:14Speaker 7: like a mythical energy as time has passed, especially considering
- 36:18Speaker 7: how long the show was actually on the air. And
- 36:21Speaker 7: you look at some of the names involved with the
- 36:23Speaker 7: show at the time, Louis c. K and Robert Smigel
- 36:26Speaker 7: and Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, I know, you know, yeah,
- 36:29Speaker 7: it was. It was a short lived adventure for all
- 36:32Speaker 7: you guys. But I'd love to hear any sort of
- 36:34Speaker 7: any sort of memories really from that experience.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Well, I was on Seinfeld at the time when the
- 36:41Speaker 5: show launched, and I watched their first episode and lost
- 36:46Speaker 5: my mind. I thought, I think there was a Bill
- 36:48Speaker 5: Clinton like nursing puppies sketch and you know, which isn't
- 36:54Speaker 5: so shocking now, but back then, remember everything was time slots, right,
- 36:58Speaker 5: so you know, eight to nine o'clock was Family Hour,
- 37:01Speaker 5: and nine o'clock, who is going to get a little
- 37:03Speaker 5: more dangerous that.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Was.
- 37:06Speaker 5: That was definitely one am to two AM at the time.
- 37:10Speaker 5: So when it went on, I went, Oh my god,
- 37:13Speaker 5: and I watched this show and I just thought it
- 37:15Speaker 5: was absolutely brilliant that Smigel had done such a great
- 37:18Speaker 5: job with it. And I know Dana really well. I've
- 37:20Speaker 5: always known what a huge talent he is, and it
- 37:23Speaker 5: was I believe it was a mid season replacement. So
- 37:26Speaker 5: like right around April, I called my agent up and
- 37:27Speaker 5: I said, I've got like three or four weeks off.
- 37:30Speaker 5: Do you think you can get me a job on
- 37:32Speaker 5: the show, because I'd love I just love to spend
- 37:35Speaker 5: my vacation working there. I don't even care if they
- 37:37Speaker 5: pay me. I just want to be around it because
- 37:38Speaker 5: the comedy is so good. So weirdly it worked and
- 37:42Speaker 5: they had one position, and I brought my friend Steve O'Donnell,
- 37:45Speaker 5: was a former head writer of Letterman, and we went
- 37:47Speaker 5: We went in there. We shared an office with Stephen
- 37:49Speaker 5: Colbert and Steve Carell and you know who were new
- 37:53Speaker 5: And I remember saying to Steve, I go, geez, these
- 37:55Speaker 5: guys are so talented, but I don't think they're going
- 37:58Speaker 5: to go anywhere if this show doesn't work.
- 38:00Speaker 6: You know.
- 38:01Speaker 5: And at some point I got a phone call. Oh no,
- 38:05Speaker 5: the ABC executive came in and said, can we talk
- 38:08Speaker 5: to you guys? And I said sure, and they said, well,
- 38:12Speaker 5: you know, what's your plan?
- 38:13Speaker 6: You know?
- 38:14Speaker 5: And I said, well what do you mean. They go, well,
- 38:16Speaker 5: we hired you because we thought you could save this show.
- 38:19Speaker 5: And then we went, oh, no, no, no, we love
- 38:21Speaker 5: the show. We wanted to do exactly what Smigel and
- 38:25Speaker 5: Dana want to do. Somehow, my agent had pitched me
- 38:29Speaker 5: because the show was in trouble to come in and
- 38:32Speaker 5: fix it and got it entirely wrong. And I think
- 38:38Speaker 5: that was like the final beat of the story for
- 38:41Speaker 5: the show. We just wrote, whatever Dana and Smigel we're
- 38:45Speaker 5: looking for, and you know, and then it didn't work,
- 38:49Speaker 5: you know, it just fell apart. But it was really
- 38:51Speaker 5: just the time slot that did it, you know. It
- 38:54Speaker 5: was just in the wrong spot.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:57Speaker 7: And another another one I had to asked about. A
- 38:59Speaker 7: friend of ours is Rob Burnette. I don't know if
- 39:01Speaker 7: you were, Yeah, yeah.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Huge Rangers fan.
- 39:06Speaker 7: He's told me that when the Rangers brought the Stanley
- 39:08Speaker 7: Cup on Letterman in nineteen ninety four, that's like one
- 39:11Speaker 7: of the highlights of his life. I'm just curious about
- 39:14Speaker 7: any exchanges with him. Did he ever try to get
- 39:16Speaker 7: you involved with, you know, a fan of the Rangers,
- 39:19Speaker 7: or any friendly rivalries with.
- 39:21Speaker 5: Well, I'm pretty sure didn't Rob build a hockey rink
- 39:25Speaker 5: in his front yard. That's how much he loves hockey.
- 39:31Speaker 5: I am fairly certain. Someone told me that and said,
- 39:34Speaker 5: you're not gonna believe what Burnett did. And I'm pretty
- 39:37Speaker 5: sure it was built a hockey rink in his front yard.
- 39:40Speaker 5: Jerry has a baseball diamond in his front yard.
- 39:44Speaker 6: I have bushes.
- 39:48Speaker 5: But I think Rob was also behind this really epic
- 39:54Speaker 5: Christmas party where we all skated and played hockey, and
- 39:58Speaker 5: that would make sense if he's a big hockey fan.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Where we all came out, we got the gear, it
- 40:03Speaker 5: was the entire staff. We played hockey to the best
- 40:06Speaker 5: of our ability. You know, I remember coming into the
- 40:10Speaker 5: stands after going wow, you know, I didn't know I.
- 40:13Speaker 6: Had this talent to play. I can't wait to see
- 40:15Speaker 6: the footage. And then we all looked like three year
- 40:19Speaker 6: olds on skates for the first time.
- 40:23Speaker 5: What we thought we had done on the rink and
- 40:25Speaker 5: what in actuality was recorded.
- 40:27Speaker 6: We're just so like a Canyon apart.
- 40:31Speaker 5: It was such a funny experience, you know, and it
- 40:34Speaker 5: gave me so much respect for players because I thought, Wow,
- 40:37Speaker 5: I was really doing this and we weren't even close.
- 40:39Speaker 5: We weren't even close. But Rob was decent.
- 40:42Speaker 6: He was good.
- 40:43Speaker 2: That's great.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Spike's Car right to make sure you listen to a
- 40:45Speaker 1: Car's Coffee and Comedy hosted by Communian automotive enthusiast Spike Versta.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Just looking at the ample episodes alone, you've got Patrick
- 40:53Speaker 1: long in the future of Porscha mcmurcery smoking the Porsche
- 40:56Speaker 1: GTS or asked Jerry Seinfeld's multimillion dollar Rolex and cyber
- 41:00Speaker 1: truck not accepted.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I got closed with this, Spike. I know you guys
- 41:04Speaker 2: de bait of this. I'll listen to the episode.
- 41:05Speaker 1: But whether not the Tesla cyber truck is a legitimate flop,
- 41:08Speaker 1: it is.
- 41:11Speaker 6: The short answer it is.
- 41:13Speaker 5: You know, I I know the fellas that designed it.
- 41:16Speaker 5: I you know, I I drove it, and I did
- 41:18Speaker 5: like the way it drove. It just has no hope
- 41:21Speaker 5: of ever becoming something that looks normal in our environment.
- 41:26Speaker 5: And and you know, I know it's a highly political topic,
- 41:28Speaker 5: but let's set that aside. It looks like a dumpster
- 41:32Speaker 5: with four wheels. And I live I live on the
- 41:35Speaker 5: west side of LA and there's got to be thirty
- 41:37Speaker 5: or forty of them floating around. And every time you
- 41:40Speaker 5: can see the people roll in their eyes when they
- 41:42Speaker 5: go by, they're they're unsightly, and I think they're going
- 41:46Speaker 5: to forever kind of be like a Dolorean or you know,
- 41:49Speaker 5: any any car that never quite works as styling wise,
- 41:54Speaker 5: exterior design wise, with what's going on in our world.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Just it's just a bad look. There's no question about
- 42:00Speaker 2: Spike's car. Yeah, Spike Pherson, Thanks so much, Spike. This
- 42:03Speaker 2: was awesome. I really appreciate you.
- 42:05Speaker 6: Yes to meet you.
- 42:14Speaker 1: All right, quick little silophon in sixty before we get
- 42:16Speaker 1: to our second round previews.
- 42:17Speaker 3: My favorite thing.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate that.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Ed Helms just finished production a hockey film in Edmonton.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Another hockey film, Another missed opportunity to catch budding thespian
- 42:27Speaker 1: Jason Demurz.
- 42:28Speaker 2: The film is called.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Smudge the Blades, a dramatic comedy that centers are in
- 42:32Speaker 1: a group of indigenous hockey players in northern Alberta. Clearly,
- 42:36Speaker 1: JD is a man who can appeal to lots of
- 42:38Speaker 1: different Vinis who do not believe he's of indigenous origin.
- 42:40Speaker 2: But hey, you never know, you.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Gonna have a little bit of chip awat chair k exactly.
- 42:44Speaker 2: We go way back in the bloodlines. Who knows?
- 42:46Speaker 1: Bottom line is you need to show your range here?
- 42:48Speaker 1: What is it gonna take to get you an audition?
- 42:51Speaker 3: I don't know if this they just woke left. I
- 42:55Speaker 3: won't just hire me enough. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 42:58Speaker 3: I'm just kidding. Uh too, white listen, I could play
- 43:03Speaker 3: the races if you want me to, Ladies and gentlemen,
- 43:05Speaker 3: I will do that hard task of embodying the guy
- 43:11Speaker 3: being like, you can't play here.
- 43:13Speaker 2: You gotta have one of those guys. Man, that's a
- 43:14Speaker 2: critical movie.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I also want to you can play, everybody can play.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Let me play.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I also wanted to get the review because you haven't
- 43:21Speaker 1: told what you thought of Henry Johnson David Manmitt's new
- 43:23Speaker 1: movie starring Shilah buff All. All you text was I
- 43:27Speaker 1: started Henry Johnson and they didn't tell me you finished it.
- 43:29Speaker 1: That's an eighty one minute movie, so I'm gonna guess
- 43:31Speaker 1: you didn't like it.
- 43:32Speaker 3: No, I actually I actually love the pacing of it.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Nice.
- 43:37Speaker 3: I watched it with Jill and Jill. You know, Jill
- 43:39Speaker 3: immediately she went and completely bind and within five minutes
- 43:43Speaker 3: she's like, this is really this this show is like
- 43:45Speaker 3: a play. And I'm like, yeah, it's it's same thing.
- 43:48Speaker 3: It's very quick pace. I mean, I think Shila buff
- 43:52Speaker 3: is incredible. I mean, he is so good that just
- 43:56Speaker 3: that that scene in the you know, when that initial
- 44:00Speaker 3: in seeing him meeting in the prison cell and him
- 44:03Speaker 3: talking and just you don't know what's going on, and
- 44:05Speaker 3: he's his movement around the cell where it always seems
- 44:09Speaker 3: like threatening, menacing, but he's not. But he's like, you know,
- 44:12Speaker 3: providing wisdom and it looks like, you know, you keep
- 44:15Speaker 3: thinking like he's gonna grab him, he's gonna do something,
- 44:18Speaker 3: but it just seems like he's offering advice and like
- 44:21Speaker 3: almost like being a psychologist with him and talking to
- 44:24Speaker 3: him mentally about how he is as a like basically
- 44:27Speaker 3: like dissecting him. As he's moving around, You're like, what's
- 44:29Speaker 3: he gonna do? Is he gonna swing on them? So
- 44:30Speaker 3: I just thought it was a very tense scene. And
- 44:33Speaker 3: but I mean, Chaievs I that guy. Everything he does.
- 44:38Speaker 3: If he just wasn't cuckoo for Coco Puffs, he would
- 44:41Speaker 3: be like you look at him and I'm gonna just
- 44:44Speaker 3: leave it at that, like you look at him and
- 44:45Speaker 3: Timothy Shallow. I mean nothing against Timothy Challamy.
- 44:47Speaker 2: But I featured on sixty Minutes, a huge profile on.
- 44:51Speaker 3: I think shi is is, if not one of the
- 44:55Speaker 3: best actors around and does not get enough love because
- 44:58Speaker 3: he's just a little bit.
- 45:00Speaker 2: The second round previews, we go Stars and Oilers.
- 45:06Speaker 1: As you mentioned earlier, these two teams met in the
- 45:09Speaker 1: West Final last season, Edmonton one and six.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Before that, Dallas lost in the West Final at six.
- 45:14Speaker 1: The Vegas Golden Knights, you talk about Ransom, your referred
- 45:17Speaker 1: him as Herculean, made his Star's debut against the Oilers
- 45:20Speaker 1: March eighth, gold assistant of five to four Oilers win.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Now there's two things that can be true.
- 45:26Speaker 1: You and I both said the winner of Dallas and
- 45:28Speaker 1: Colorado wins the Stanley Cup.
- 45:29Speaker 2: That may still be true.
- 45:31Speaker 1: But you and I also said we're not counting out
- 45:33Speaker 1: against Edmonton again. We both called the Kings, we both
- 45:36Speaker 1: called Vegas. So which of those two facts we stick with?
- 45:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna say I'm not calling against the Oilers again.
- 45:41Speaker 1: I know that the underdog in this series. I'm not
- 45:43Speaker 1: doing it again. I'm calling the oilers in seven.
- 45:46Speaker 2: What do you got? Yeah?
- 45:48Speaker 3: I man, it's just so tough because you look once again,
- 45:53Speaker 3: you got Jake ore versus Stuart Skinner, Calvin Picard, two
- 45:56Speaker 3: headed monster, and then you now have Hayskin and an
- 46:00Speaker 3: Harley to skate with McDavid and dry titles, so you
- 46:04Speaker 3: have pieces in place, but I cannot McDavid looks like
- 46:09Speaker 3: he wants to rip somebody's face off right now, like
- 46:12Speaker 3: every game he is. I mean he was, They're up
- 46:14Speaker 3: three to one and he backchecked and almost decapitate himself
- 46:18Speaker 3: on the post to backcheck like in the first period
- 46:20Speaker 3: of a game, like watch you watch these like you
- 46:23Speaker 3: know you you watch these other series and these other superstars.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Not one of these guys is doing that. This guy
- 46:28Speaker 3: wants to win so bad, going after the media after
- 46:31Speaker 3: being like, is that how you look at how we
- 46:33Speaker 3: played defensively? Like tired of answering this question, I'm like,
- 46:36Speaker 3: this guy is gonna ship somebody in the bathroom just
- 46:40Speaker 3: to win a cup right now, like he wants it
- 46:42Speaker 3: so bad. So I just don't know. I think Dallas
- 46:46Speaker 3: is better than they were last year, but I think
- 46:48Speaker 3: Edmonton's better than they were last year. So this is
- 46:50Speaker 3: gonna be an interesting series. And I predict that Edmonton
- 46:55Speaker 3: is gonna implement the same style they did against Vegas,
- 46:58Speaker 3: which is they are going to get to Andre. They
- 47:00Speaker 3: are going to be in his face all series. So
- 47:02Speaker 3: I'm interested to see how that decoor handles that much pressure,
- 47:06Speaker 3: because up to this point, you know, Colorado skilled team
- 47:11Speaker 3: Winnipeg a little bit more defensive structure, you know, other
- 47:13Speaker 3: than the liwtery line, they're not that imposing physically. Edmonton
- 47:17Speaker 3: has proven to be physically imposing in these playoffs, and
- 47:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna be interested to see how they handle that pressure.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Do you want to give you a prediction? What do
- 47:24Speaker 2: you got? All right?
- 47:25Speaker 3: I'm not bet We said we have to a lot.
- 47:28Speaker 3: We can't lie to the masses and truth be told,
- 47:31Speaker 3: as much as I want to lie to the masses
- 47:32Speaker 3: and flip flop, flip flop, no oilers, We're gonna go
- 47:35Speaker 3: with the Oilers. We need Canada to win. We need
- 47:37Speaker 3: Canada to win.
- 47:38Speaker 1: That still stays a lot, by the way that prediction
- 47:40Speaker 1: would have felt a lot better it was Winnipeg. Oh well,
- 47:42Speaker 1: we're riding these Oilers team. Next up Hurricanes and Panthers.
- 47:46Speaker 1: So this series is interesting because again the Panthers with
- 47:50Speaker 1: the effort that they showed unbelievable in Game seven against Toronto.
- 47:53Speaker 1: But I wouldn't say Carolina showed me something. But I
- 47:56Speaker 1: did not think they would dispatch the Capitals in five.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I think I had the Hurricanes winning, but I'm like
- 48:00Speaker 1: that was a strong effort from start to finish. I
- 48:03Speaker 1: still question the lack of a game breaker. Although Svetscha
- 48:06Speaker 1: Copp has been great, and I'm not gonna again dispute
- 48:09Speaker 1: that Freddie Anderson has not been well of these stories
- 48:11Speaker 1: of this.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Playoffs, how good he has been.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Having said that this Panthers team, I see them going
- 48:16Speaker 1: to the third straight Stanley Cup.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I will call Panthers in six.
- 48:20Speaker 3: When an immovable object meets an unstoppable force. Is the
- 48:25Speaker 3: Carolina Hurricanes versus the Florida Panthers, which for check will
- 48:30Speaker 3: get there first. Nice And I tell you what if
- 48:34Speaker 3: Freddie Anderson keeps playing the way he's playing in Jacob's
- 48:36Speaker 3: Slave and now now they're getting old Slave Daddy, which
- 48:39Speaker 3: he's gonna be all over there with stick on puck.
- 48:42Speaker 3: Can they handle the for check of Florida and get
- 48:46Speaker 3: and play that boring hockey that has won them so
- 48:48Speaker 3: many games and frustrated the hell out of teams. I
- 48:50Speaker 3: do not think they've been tested yet in these playoffs.
- 48:53Speaker 3: That's the only issue. They got a new Jersey Devil
- 48:55Speaker 3: teams that was the Walking Dead, and they dispatch the
- 48:58Speaker 3: Washington Capitals, which I just think we're fatigued a little
- 49:01Speaker 3: bit older. This is a different animal than the Florida Panthers.
- 49:05Speaker 3: I want to take a flyer and Jeorde Martin hook
- 49:08Speaker 3: fan of the show. I want to see Carolina gets there,
- 49:11Speaker 3: much of the chagrin of the NHL and the revenue
- 49:13Speaker 3: sharing model. I think the Carolina Hurricanes, I think they
- 49:16Speaker 3: do it in seven. I don't know. I like that
- 49:19Speaker 3: against Florida, but I have to go sideways on this
- 49:22Speaker 3: because fold pick. I like what I've seen against Florida.
- 49:26Speaker 3: But I just think that Carolina might have something here
- 49:30Speaker 3: and I want to see them with everybody shit talking
- 49:34Speaker 3: them all season about the trades they messed up. I
- 49:37Speaker 3: want to see this team with a chip on their shoulder,
- 49:39Speaker 3: with Taylor Hall Mista Scheschnikoff and Jacob Slave in this boring,
- 49:46Speaker 3: boring ass team. Yeah, I want this high flip and.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Ram blogging up the neutral zone.
- 49:50Speaker 3: That's and I just want them to get there because
- 49:53Speaker 3: it's gonna piss everybody off. And that's why I want it,
- 49:56Speaker 3: because when everybody's eggs's daddy's eggs, it's.
- 49:59Speaker 2: A great Consuron take. I love it, second time in
- 50:01Speaker 2: three seasons.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Hurricanes Panthers Eastern Conference Bottle Florida swept the Canes in
- 50:05Speaker 1: twenty twenty three before losing to Vegas and the cup
- 50:07Speaker 1: file of the Panthers took two or three games against
- 50:09Speaker 1: Carolina during the regular season, though they haven't played since January.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Second and one final the great Rod Brendan were played
- 50:15Speaker 1: under Paul Maurice when they were in Carolina together, so
- 50:18Speaker 1: interesting coaching matchup as well. One more thought here before
- 50:20Speaker 1: we get the three Stars World Championships in Sweden and Denmark,
- 50:23Speaker 1: we spoke to sharkspore Re Tyler to fully how Maclin
- 50:26Speaker 1: celebrity could learn something from Sidney Crosby. Well, thirty seven
- 50:29Speaker 1: year old Crosby eighteen year old celebraty. They've been a
- 50:32Speaker 1: four so far for Team Canada seven nothing went over
- 50:34Speaker 1: Slovakia on Saturday. Crosby two goals to assist Max Elliott
- 50:38Speaker 1: goal and two assists. How much can I think celebrity
- 50:40Speaker 1: is having playing with Crosby.
- 50:42Speaker 3: I mean, I'm just already regretting my pick of taking
- 50:44Speaker 3: the Carolina Hurricanes.
- 50:45Speaker 2: No, I think it's right, such a gutsy picks.
- 50:49Speaker 3: It's the dumbest pick ever. You could please add this
- 50:53Speaker 3: to it as well, just have it say a few
- 50:56Speaker 3: moments later and me just being like, I completely.
- 51:00Speaker 2: No, no, but everyone's SIGs. You're gonna sag.
- 51:03Speaker 3: I love it. But this Florida team is just an
- 51:06Speaker 3: absolute wagon. But yeah, I mean, if I'm Sidney Crosby
- 51:11Speaker 3: and I'm playing with Maclin celebrity right now and he
- 51:13Speaker 3: is just dishing and the chemistry high, I'm rethinking not
- 51:18Speaker 3: asking for a trade out of Pittsburgh and be like,
- 51:21Speaker 3: this is how the other half can live when I'm
- 51:23Speaker 3: playing with these young kids that are just so good
- 51:25Speaker 3: and can get me the puck over whatever the dumpster
- 51:27Speaker 3: fire is and the Pittsburgh Penguins right now. So but
- 51:31Speaker 3: it's fun to see him. You know, they're having a blast.
- 51:33Speaker 3: It's a great tournament I played there. It's such so
- 51:35Speaker 3: much fun. Everybody's calm, everybody's having fun, and you know,
- 51:39Speaker 3: especially in these round robin games and you're just piss
- 51:42Speaker 3: pumping these teams like from Slovenia and like these teams
- 51:45Speaker 3: that have no NHL players and this is a stacked team.
- 51:47Speaker 3: It is so much fun because you're just like, oh, yeah,
- 51:49Speaker 3: we just globetrotters this, and that's what it's looked like
- 51:52Speaker 3: right now. But yeah, it's it's I'm sure celebrity is
- 51:55Speaker 3: having a ton of fun too, playing with Sidney Crosby
- 51:59Speaker 3: and you know, learning so much. This is going to
- 52:01Speaker 3: help him, you know, help him, help him big tight.
- 52:04Speaker 3: And he hearing that Connor Bodard said no to the
- 52:07Speaker 3: World Championships is crazy to me.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I just said it'll certainly help sell bring
- 52:11Speaker 2: his developments.
- 52:12Speaker 3: Why wouldn't Connorverdard go there? I don't I won't to
- 52:14Speaker 3: understand that.
- 52:15Speaker 1: But yeah, it's an I guess all right, three stores,
- 52:17Speaker 1: three stars just be closed the shop. I'll give it
- 52:19Speaker 1: to Mark Schiffley, honoring his father Brad literally hours aftere
- 52:22Speaker 1: Feenerty passed week, goes up there and scores a goal.
- 52:24Speaker 1: The Jets may have lost the game, but it was
- 52:25Speaker 1: a great moment for all of the games bright young Stars.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Props to Mark Scheifeley for playing with a heavy heart.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Who do you got, jad?
- 52:31Speaker 3: I'm going with Seth Jones, fan of the show. I
- 52:33Speaker 3: just what a game, What a step up he is?
- 52:35Speaker 2: Uh.
- 52:36Speaker 3: I think all time minutes by defenseman in the playoffs,
- 52:41Speaker 3: he is like number three on the list at like
- 52:43Speaker 3: twenty eight minutes average. Uh. And he's just been doing everything.
- 52:48Speaker 3: What a trade. Everybody scoffed at that trade, But Seth
- 52:51Speaker 3: Jones is a number one, number one B defenseman and
- 52:54Speaker 3: he has been proving that. And this team, this Florida
- 52:57Speaker 3: team looks scary once again, and they have that belief
- 53:01Speaker 3: and they're just walking their way to this and the
- 53:04Speaker 3: Cup finals. But not if the Carolina Hurricanes have something
- 53:08Speaker 3: to say, go ahead.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Tell your pick. Yeah, I mean, I gotta go with
- 53:15Speaker 2: Brad Marshaw.
- 53:17Speaker 3: It's just the excell too, Florida Panthers.
- 53:20Speaker 2: No, none of us the impressive in Game seven, none of.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Us taking Any Edmonton Oilers players.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Will mention, yeah he kicks.
- 53:30Speaker 8: There's a few gays we get pick there, But just
- 53:32Speaker 8: Marshaw I mean, this guy's gonna be haunting Leafs fans
- 53:34Speaker 8: nightmares for generations what he's done to this team over
- 53:38Speaker 8: the years. You know, eight points in seven games in
- 53:41Speaker 8: this series against Toronto, including a goal and two assists
- 53:45Speaker 8: in game seven.
- 53:46Speaker 3: I mean, how the the game, game five and Game
- 53:51Speaker 3: seven drubbings of the Toronto may be leiefs that hurts
- 53:56Speaker 3: so bad?
- 53:57Speaker 2: Well, that's how we start the show. That's how we
- 53:58Speaker 2: end the show.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Awful performance, by the way, believes standing performance by the
- 54:02Speaker 1: Florida Panthers. As we are now officially entering the third round,
- 54:06Speaker 1: just four teams left, but still twice a week of
- 54:08Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted, one social Media Clipper episode.
