- 0:05three offensive? Players in the league.
- 0:15We're going to be. Looking at Aaron Judge and
- 0:17saying that he can't. Win the big game, Michael Jordan
- 0:19said. I played 82 games.
- 0:22You don't see LeBron. Doing that, a game where you got
- 0:24to go for. Four, I told you, dying Feet and
- 0:28Saquon Barkley this. Let's do it.

- 2:13www.worldwidesportsradio.com. Ladies and gentlemen, it's
- 2:20raining here in New York, Long Island and throughout the
- 2:25tri-state and it's absolutely garbage.
- 2:27But guess what, it is cool out. This is where I begin to believe
- 2:33football is around the corner and baseball is almost over.
- 2:36We have the playoffs around the corner, basketball, hockey.
- 2:40This is the best time for sports, Ladies and gentlemen.
- 2:43Nobody can complain more than more than Florida people or
- 2:49California. I said more, more than enough
- 2:51times, ladies and gentlemen, and it just shows you how tired I
- 2:55absolutely am. Throughout the last couple of
- 2:57days, I've been dealing with a lot of garbage.
- 2:59My sister's obviously back. She's no longer in the hospital,
- 3:03so thank God my sister's fine. She's taking care of herself.
- 3:06She's seeing all these different specialists for her heart.
- 3:09I've been worried about her. So it's been a little bit crazy
- 3:12for me, the fact that I'm here. I just, I thank God that I'm
- 3:16here and my sister's still here because a lot of thoughts in my,
- 3:20that you probably would have dealt with a lot worse things
- 3:23over the last couple of weeks, especially with all the stuff
- 3:27that I've heard she's been going through.
- 3:28So I'm, I'm happy, my heart goes out to my family and in my, my,
- 3:33my nieces and my nephew that has been dealing with this over the
- 3:37last couple of weeks. Jabba, how are you?
- 3:38I'm good now. Grisham just let off the game
- 3:41with a Homer again, so not too bad.
- 3:45Yeah, hopefully we got the last day of of warm.
- 3:48We're going to be in the 70s here in a few days, so the
- 3:51Jekyll and Hyde of the good old Nebraska weather.
- 3:54But yeah, other than that, everything's good, man.
- 3:56It's just another day. Son had his first day at college
- 4:00today and 1st 1st practice for baseball so getting him going
- 4:05and getting all that exciting stuff.
- 4:08Is, is that exciting going back to college?
- 4:10I, I am never excited when I have to go back to school.
- 4:13I know a lot of people sitting here today and saying, oh, I
- 4:15can't wait to go back to school. I can't wait to go to English
- 4:18and science and math. Oh my God, physical education.
- 4:22To me, school was not my thing. I never ever was excited going
- 4:27back to school, except maybe getting on a baseball field.
- 4:30If that's why you're going back to school.
- 4:31A lot of these kids can't wait to go back to school because
- 4:34they want to play football. They're playing D1D2D3 and
- 4:37that's why they're there. They're not there for the
- 4:39education. They're there to play sports and
- 4:42eventually, hopefully be drafted.
- 4:43Now, if I don't know your son, is he a college fan?
- 4:47Is he a school fan? I don't know, but it's it's
- 4:50never exciting when I know I have to go back to school and
- 4:52have to deal with professors. I got to deal with writing
- 4:54papers and and doing anything of that magnitude that I stay the
- 4:58hell away from. I am not going to enjoy any bit
- 5:01of that. Over the last couple of years I
- 5:04have, I've watched my girlfriend go through all that situation,
- 5:08going through nursing school and, and dealing with all the
- 5:11papers that she has to write in that long nights and staying up
- 5:16and listening to her complain in the studio that she needs quiet.
- 5:20I can't watch television. I got to go out to my car
- 5:22watching football games, baseball games while she is
- 5:25studying in the studio while the doors are closed and it's
- 5:28absolutely silent and soundproof.
- 5:31She didn't care. So it was never fun dealing with
- 5:34that and watching her go through it.
- 5:36So to me, school is never fun when I have to worry about
- 5:41studying or doing any of that stuff.
- 5:42So I, I, I understand what you're saying.
- 5:44I guess it's good. Maybe your son is in is one of
- 5:47those school rats or what do they call them, those bookworms?
- 5:52I I'm definitely not. No, just it just comes super
- 5:55easy to him. No, he was, he was on the well,
- 5:58they call it the president's list of his schools, which is
- 6:00like the beans list. But no, yeah, he's, I mean, he's
- 6:04he's not excited about conditioning at 7:00 AM, but
- 6:07yeah, just getting back. He's got his own, he's got his
- 6:09own place. So he's excited about that.
- 6:12So yeah, he's, you know, gets gets a little bit more freedom.
- 6:15I mean, he's, he got his own freedom.
- 6:18He's kind of had one year of it, but now he's got his own space.
- 6:20So we'll see if he actually cleans it.
- 6:22So does it really matter, honestly?
- 6:24His own space. He always had his own space.
- 6:26Even when he was living with you, he could do whatever.
- 6:29He wants no, but I mean I got but like I understand this is
- 6:32space. Like he's it's not like he's,
- 6:34you know, downstairs or across the hall or in the kitchen or,
- 6:38you know, whatever. Like he's these are way away.
- 6:40So it's not like I can just. Here's the problem if you ever
- 6:43gone to dorms and I I've been to many different dorms over the
- 6:46years, getting a chance to visit my friends.
- 6:49The dorms are like like rectangle.
- 6:52You barely can walk in it. You have a roommate, one
- 6:55roommate's on the other side, you're on the other side of the
- 6:58the room and the room's not even that big.
- 6:59It's like 10 by 10. Most of these these these places
- 7:03that you stay at these dorms. So unless you're renting out a
- 7:06house or dad's spending the money and making sure that his
- 7:10son or his friends are taken care of and they're they're
- 7:13enjoying themselves with a three bedroom house with two
- 7:17bathrooms. I don't, I don't know the last
- 7:18dorm room you've been in, but my son, they, they had three TV's,
- 7:234 desks, a walk in a little pantry.
- 7:26I've been to. Dorm rooms.
- 7:28Dorm rooms have switched a lot. Like they don't have keys
- 7:31anymore. Everything is like via the an
- 7:33app on their phone. Via app or they have cards now?
- 7:37They have housekeepers that come in and clean the bathroom.
- 7:41Wherever he's wherever he's going to.
- 7:43What is it, Hutchinson? Where where is he going?
- 7:45Hutch. Yeah, I to me, I when I was
- 7:49well, I experienced going away. I didn't have that in college,
- 7:52no. No, I, I mean, I Fish was a
- 7:56college student and he had an opportunity to, and he's a
- 7:59bookworm. Obviously, you know that Fish
- 8:02has an economics degree and master's degree and, and, and
- 8:05all that other crap. And I'm sure he enjoyed going to
- 8:07school and enjoying listen to the professor's lectures and
- 8:12three hour lectures and writing papers about it.
- 8:14That's not something that I enjoyed and that's one of the
- 8:17reasons why I stayed away from those those opportunities.
- 8:21I just wanted to get on the ice. So I just wanted to get on a
- 8:24baseball field or a football field and and do what I do best
- 8:27and that's it. Entertain people and myself when
- 8:29it comes to athletics. I never cared about school.
- 8:32And that was the one thing that I never enjoyed even going to
- 8:35high school. I miss high school.
- 8:36Now everybody that sits here today listening to us right now,
- 8:40I'm sure. People go back, kids, by the
- 8:41way, kids listening don't, don't listen to a word he just said.
- 8:45By the way, enjoy school because if you don't go to school, you
- 8:47can't play. So don't listen to.
- 8:48Any I'm not saying not to go to school.
- 8:51That's not what I'm saying. Student athlete.
- 8:54Not athlete Student. It's athlete student, right?
- 8:57It's athlete, student. You ask anybody that's playing
- 9:00D1 football or D1 basketball or D1 hockey, they're there for one
- 9:05reason. 98 to 99% of high school athletes don't play D1 sports.
- 9:10That's not what I'm. And then 9890 to 95.
- 9:14OK, stop. Stop.
- 9:15Put your calculus stupid. It's not calculus, that's.
- 9:20I I. I don't have 4 function.
- 9:21Calculus I I I don't care I I don't care about the
- 9:24mathematical equation to what people do when they go to school
- 9:28and enjoying themselves. Go to school.
- 9:30The math says stay the hell away from it.
- 9:32If you enjoy school, enjoy it. If you're playing sports, go and
- 9:36play sports and enjoy your lives because you only live one of
- 9:39them. And how many?
- 9:40There are many people that don't live a long lasting life.
- 9:43I've I've seen many of my friends die at a very young age.
- 9:46And now obviously things have happened over the years and, and
- 9:50the experiences that I have lived and and seen it.
- 9:54It's a little bit more than most people on this show.
- 9:56I'm the oldest, I'm the elder of this show.
- 9:58I'm 43 years old. So I, I've seen a little bit
- 10:01more than a lot of you guys, but nevertheless, I'm not saying
- 10:04that I'm better than you because I'm a little bit older than you,
- 10:07but I understand that school is important if you want to be a
- 10:12certain doctor or you want to be a lawyer, if you want to be a
- 10:15school teacher. But if you want to be a business
- 10:18owner, you don't need school if you want to.
- 10:20Be You know what you need, Errol, and it's and you're right
- 10:24speaking the truth. You're right to a degree.
- 10:25As a teacher, you're not really allowed to.
- 10:27Say, the richest people in the world.
- 10:29If you go back and you look at some of the guys, Steve Jobs,
- 10:33did he finish school? Honestly, if we go back and look
- 10:36at all the great smart people in this world that created the atom
- 10:41bomb, you know, I'm talking about, or any of these different
- 10:44people that we have spoken about in the past of history, not all
- 10:48of them finished college, not all of them went.
- 10:51It's not about like finishing school in my opinion.
- 10:53I think it's just people don't realize it's a lot more about
- 10:56your job experience than you know, how many classes you took
- 11:00in something, right? Absolutely.
- 11:02It's who you know now. And I think that's what you're
- 11:04saying, Errol. It's not that that everyone
- 11:06should be a dumb meathead jock, but on the other hand, it's
- 11:11really not the only thing. And people just waste their
- 11:14lives, you know, working on papers, stressing themselves
- 11:16out, doing jobs that are just constant the paperwork,
- 11:19paperwork, paperwork. And you know, life happens into
- 11:22your plans. And sometimes that would be a
- 11:24shame if you wasted your whole life doing stuff like that.
- 11:26I understand what you're. Saying that's what I'm saying,
- 11:28I'm not saying not to go to school.
- 11:29If you enjoy school, enjoy it, but you have to go to school if
- 11:32you want to play D1 baseball, basketball or football, you, you
- 11:35have to go to class and do what you have to do to get through
- 11:39that to, to get through the program that you want to play.
- 11:42So I, I understand the whole situation of going to college,
- 11:45but most kids that are playing D1 baseball, basketball,
- 11:49football or any of the sports, they're going to play sports,
- 11:52they're really not going for the education.
- 11:54Most of those kids that are playing professional sports
- 11:57don't even finish the college education.
- 11:58Most of them don't that some of them go back.
- 12:01I'm not saying that they don't, but a lot of them don't.
- 12:03They, they, they're there strictly to get through the year
- 12:07or two years or however long you you need to, to get through
- 12:11college to go and play professional sports.
- 12:13That's all I'm saying. Manford, yes, discusses
- 12:16realignment and expansion. Baseball commissioner Ron
- 12:20Manford discusses geographic realignment and expansion on
- 12:24ESPN Sunday Night Baseball this past weekend.
- 12:27Manford explained that the geographic realignment could
- 12:31help save a lot and wear and tear of players due to travel
- 12:37and also be better for regional markets since teams would rarely
- 12:42start late for East Coast audiences or early for those on
- 12:47the West Coast. USA Today's Bob Nightingale
- 12:49reports that Nashville is a city that wants a MLB franchise.
- 12:54That and Fox Sports says that Charlotte and Portland would
- 12:58make most sense for Manford's plan to add multiple teams of
- 13:03each coast. Mets announcer how he rose
- 13:07blasted the idea on X, saying This is what I've been telling
- 13:13you. It's inevitable for quite a
- 13:15while now. The American League and the
- 13:17National League will cease to exist as we know them.
- 13:21It's the last move before the total destruction of the
- 13:24traditions that made baseball great.
- 13:27Yankees announcer Michael Kay supported Manfred, explaining it
- 13:30would eliminate the need for Inter league play since the
- 13:34rivalry now would be in the same division while making All Star
- 13:39games mean something again. Although nothing is planned
- 13:43immediately as the MLB wants to resolve the Rays and a stadium
- 13:48issues, geographic realignment and expansion are now publicly
- 13:53on Manford's and MLB's agenda. You know, it's interesting and
- 13:57this story is going to obviously grow legs as we move forward
- 14:01over the next couple of months and really the next couple of
- 14:03years. Rob Manford's going to be
- 14:06running baseball for at least another four more years.
- 14:09And Rob Manfred wants to put baseball as the the lead sport
- 14:14and, and trade and change the generational type of game that
- 14:18it's been. And, and baseball has been
- 14:21center stage over the last couple of years and trying to
- 14:24grow their product. Now, obviously in the 90s with
- 14:27the, the situation and the breakdown of what happened with
- 14:32the strike, it, it affected baseball, it affected the growth
- 14:35of baseball. And then steroids came out and,
- 14:37and then you saw Mark McGuire and Sammy Soser and Barry Bonds
- 14:40and, and the steroid error was there.
- 14:42And now it's different. Now you look at the traditional
- 14:44way of where the, where baseball is trying to recreate itself and
- 14:48change rules and change different things that's going to
- 14:52help the game or change the game in many different ways.
- 14:55I, I think that Manford's doing things a little bit different
- 14:59than other sports and other commissioners in, in sports.
- 15:03Gary Bettman did something very original and very different when
- 15:06it came to the NHL. He had the lottery, He put the
- 15:09lottery center stage this past year for hockey fans to check
- 15:13out and see how they're picking and how their, their lottery
- 15:16falls into place. And it's, it's very different
- 15:19now when it comes to watching these kind of different things.
- 15:22And, and bring baseball and, and bring football and hockey to
- 15:26center stage and, and trying to bring the market a little bit
- 15:28more and drive more money to these sports.
- 15:32The thing is, when you're changing something that's been
- 15:34around for a long, long time, that's worked a long, long time,
- 15:37it probably will change the different subscriptions and, and
- 15:41different ways that money could be brought to the game.
- 15:45And I understand the realignment.
- 15:47I understand what he's trying to do.
- 15:48If you have obviously you have a Metropolitan Division, you have
- 15:51the Yankees and the Mets in the same division being that it's
- 15:54New York. And then you have the LA, the
- 15:56LA, the LA Angels, LA Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants, all
- 16:00these different West Coast teams playing at the same time,
- 16:04playing in the same, you know, conference.
- 16:06It could help, obviously, young, young kids from going to school
- 16:11or kids or parents by working at working at certain times, get a
- 16:15chance to check out the their sports teams or their favorite
- 16:18players. I understand everything that Rob
- 16:20Manfred's trying to bring to the forefront.
- 16:22Howie Rose has made a lot of interesting thoughts when it
- 16:26came when it comes to baseball and Michael Caine.
- 16:28How are you Howie Rose? Harry Rose works and has done so
- 16:31many things for the New York Mets and Michael Cay works for
- 16:34the New York Yankees. Michael Cay thinks he knows
- 16:35everything and Michael Cay always comes out and says things
- 16:38that kind of throw you off on on the way the league works and and
- 16:41how generational thoughts of where the Yankees are going to
- 16:45be in the future and where the Yankees could really put
- 16:48themselves center stage in the future.
- 16:50I I think that the realignment of baseball is unique and
- 16:54different. I don't know if it's going to
- 16:56help the game of baseball. Baseball is always trying to
- 16:59redefine itself. I don't get it.
- 17:01I I know Ron Bantford wants to stamp his name to it just like
- 17:05Bud Selig stamped his name to baseball.
- 17:07And when it came to the steroid era and, and not letting these
- 17:10guys go to the Hall of Fame. Bud Selig is sitting very pretty
- 17:14in the Hall of Fame right now as Rob Manford took over for the
- 17:17league and now changing rules and trying to redefine the game
- 17:20of baseball for for what he believes baseball should be and
- 17:24how it's going to drive youngsters to want to go and
- 17:26play baseball and choose baseball over football.
- 17:29And we've seen that many, many times over the last couple of
- 17:32years when these different commissioners are trying to
- 17:34redefine their sports sponsorships and advertisements
- 17:37are really changing the game. It's bringing the game more
- 17:41money and more revenue. And with the new CBA rules with
- 17:45and, and laws that they are bringing to the forefront with
- 17:47TV deals and all the different things that baseball has had
- 17:51over the last couple of years. You think that with the money
- 17:55that is there and, and what they're trying to drive for the
- 17:58money and, and with all the players.
- 18:00And you know what, we were just talking about this the other day
- 18:03with the players union. The players union is never going
- 18:05to have a salary cap. Baseball is never going to have
- 18:08a salary cap because the players union will never allow it.
- 18:11Now there's so much being invested into these players.
- 18:14You have a $760 million player in Juan Soto.
- 18:18Eventually we're going to have a billion dollar player.
- 18:20Now we have deferred money and guys that are making that kind
- 18:23of money. A Friedman is making money
- 18:25that's deferred. You have all these Mookie Betts
- 18:28and all these players from the LA Dodgers making money, but
- 18:31they're not making money because it's deferred money.
- 18:33So they can bring more players to their organization and they
- 18:36can ride championships all the way to the end.
- 18:39The problem right now in Bay with baseball is Rob Manfred is
- 18:42spinning the wheel and making the deal.
- 18:44I don't know how this is going to change the game.
- 18:46I don't know how this is going to make the game better.
- 18:49It's going to ruin the game. I have seen this many, many
- 18:52times in in sports, football. Remember football in the 90s,
- 18:56you can pull on the the defensive players can pull on
- 18:59the wide receivers. You can play man to man and and
- 19:03pull them and and yank on them on the second with the
- 19:06secondary. Now if you put your hands on the
- 19:08wide receiver, you're going to get a penalty, a 15 yard
- 19:10penalty. It ruins the game.
- 19:11It's become a more offensive game.
- 19:13Basketball. You used to be able to put your
- 19:16hands defensively on a player and defend somebody up front in
- 19:21the 90s and and play that man to man that, that really tight
- 19:24defense. You can't do that anymore.
- 19:26If you do that, they, these guys are going to go to the foul
- 19:28line. You have LeBron James
- 19:29complaining, you have James Harden complaining.
- 19:31The game is changing. I understand when when the
- 19:34game's changing, there's more money, there's more business.
- 19:37They're they're trying to redefine and spin the wheel and
- 19:40make the deal. I understand, understand that.
- 19:41I think I and I, I get what they're trying to do.
- 19:44I get what Ron Manford is trying to do.
- 19:46Where there's more, more change, there's more money.
- 19:49And when, when baseball is looking to get more games, being
- 19:54seen by these young fans yet college fans, these high school
- 19:58fans, I understand kids are going to bed early in the East
- 20:02Coast. And the West Coast kids are
- 20:04going to bed early. They got to go to school.
- 20:06So I know me and Jabba, we're talking about this offset that
- 20:10nobody get a chance to see how great Buster Posey was.
- 20:13And Buster Posey playing in LA here on the East Coast, you're
- 20:16never going to get a chance to see him because he played at ten
- 20:1811:00 at night. OK, So what are you going to do?
- 20:21You're going to you're going to make a conference of LA teams or
- 20:24West Coast teams. How is that going to change the
- 20:27way people and the East Coast are going to get a chance to see
- 20:30those players? That's my question here.
- 20:32I understand what they're trying to do and what Rob Manford's
- 20:35trying to say and and spinning the wheel, make the deal.
- 20:39I think they should bring in franchises, new franchise.
- 20:42Why? Because it brings in more
- 20:44revenue. And if it brings more revenue,
- 20:45it brings more opportunity. And that makes sense.
- 20:49Nashville, Charlotte, Portland, wherever they decide to bring in
- 20:52a new baseball team. Look at the NHL.
- 20:54The NHL has been doing that over the last couple of years.
- 20:56They brought in Seattle. Now we're going to probably see
- 20:59another hockey team, as Gary, it's been speaking about
- 21:02bringing in another hockey team for the near future that this is
- 21:06going to happen. And and that's what these these
- 21:09commissions are trying to do. Where there's more teams and
- 21:12more places to build those teams.
- 21:13There's more revenue and that brings in more profit sharing
- 21:16for the players, more profit sharing for the owners.
- 21:19But who is this benefiting? Is it defending, benefiting the
- 21:22players? Is it or is it benefiting the
- 21:24owners or is it benefiting more money being brought in to the
- 21:28league? That's the question.
- 21:29And again, we can go back and say this and we can we can speak
- 21:32about this about well, this is going to help the players.
- 21:35This is going to double headers. And and maybe the Mets and the
- 21:38Yankees could play more in a regular season if they're
- 21:40playing in the same Metropolitan Division.
- 21:42So they'll play 14 games instead of four games.
- 21:45And and Yankee and Met fans are going to want to see that.
- 21:48That's fine. And I guess that that's a
- 21:50beneficial thing if you're a New York fan.
- 21:52But how does does this benefit the LA fan?
- 21:55I want to see, I want to see the Dodgers and the Yankees play 14
- 21:58times in a season. Well, because the Yankees are on
- 22:01the East Coast and the Dodgers on the West Coast, we're only
- 22:04going to see that three times or four times in a season.
- 22:06I I want to see the best teams play against one another.
- 22:10I want to see the the highly profiled teams like the Dodgers
- 22:14and the Red Sox and the Yankees play against one another.
- 22:17I don't want to see the Kansas City Royals, when they're not
- 22:19going about going deep, dig deep into their pockets and spend the
- 22:23money after their players become free agents and let them go to
- 22:26the Yankees and go to the Red Sox.
- 22:27Does anybody want to see the Kansas City Royals play the LA
- 22:31Dodgers 14 times? Nobody wants to see that.
- 22:35And the same thing goes to the Baltimore Orioles.
- 22:37The Baltimore Orioles over the last couple of years has some of
- 22:40the best young, highly profiled, big time bats in baseball, but
- 22:45guess what? They're the Baltimore Orioles.
- 22:47Does anybody want to watch the Baltimore Orioles play?
- 22:50That's the facts. And then you go back and we're
- 22:53we're trying to figure out how this is going to work.
- 22:55And, and again, this is going to happen.
- 22:57Rob Manfred is going to make this happen, just like Gary
- 23:00Bettman over the last couple of years, making the Nets bigger
- 23:04and making the goalie pads bigger and make it the goat.
- 23:06Now being that the Nets are bigger and the the ice is longer
- 23:10and you can't be, you can't be smaller than 6 foot two.
- 23:14I've I've spoken about, I spoken with this with Mike Richter and
- 23:18John Van Beesburg. John Van Beesburg's 5 foot 9, 5
- 23:20foot 10 at the at the least. And then you have Mike Richter,
- 23:24who's 5 foot 11, maybe 6 foot. We're never going to see a six
- 23:28foot goaltender again. There's no way because of the
- 23:31Nets, the way the the game is played in the way they're
- 23:34they're they're changing the rules of the game.
- 23:36And and again, is it better for the the fan or is it better for
- 23:40the league? Is it better for the players or
- 23:43is it better for the owners? Now the owners are making money
- 23:47out of her fist. They're they're making billions
- 23:49and billions of dollars. They're still going to be rich.
- 23:52The players are the ones that are complaining about.
- 23:55Well, I, and, and here's another thing before I get get into
- 23:58that, the players love to travel the, the Yankees.
- 24:03I've heard this many, many times.
- 24:05I've talked to Johnny Damon off air in a conversation.
- 24:08Do you like to travel to Seattle?
- 24:10Do you like to travel to LA? And he says it's a, it's a great
- 24:13experience and get a chance to see these different cities and,
- 24:16and get a chance to see the different climates and the
- 24:18different places that they get to see over the, you know, over
- 24:21the years of playing baseball. Are they going to like where
- 24:26they're going to? They're not going to be able to
- 24:27travel 7-8 times a year if they're playing on the East
- 24:30Coast, or is it? Is it going to work that way
- 24:33where players are going to agree to this and the players union
- 24:36has to agree to this too? It's got to work both ways.
- 24:39And Rob Manfred, he is trying to make a statement just like Bud
- 24:43Selig had tried to make a statement at the end of his
- 24:46career. And again, does this benefit
- 24:48baseball? That is the thing.
- 24:51And I don't think it does any change where where a sports been
- 24:54around for over 100 years. It's worked so many times over
- 24:58and getting a chance to see, well, I didn't get a chance to
- 25:01see Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.
- 25:04They played the game the way they played the game, the way it
- 25:06was built. And now you have the game where
- 25:09there's there's bags the size of pizza boxes and, and the the
- 25:13bags are closer and, and, and the way they you can't shift
- 25:17anymore. You can't do this.
- 25:18You can't do that. You have a pitching clock.
- 25:20They didn't have that in the in the 1960s and 1950s.
- 25:23They didn't even have that in 1980s.
- 25:26So how does this benefit baseball?
- 25:28Well, it speeds up the game. Well, guess what, If it speeds
- 25:31up the game, are people plying more beer?
- 25:33Are people buying and spending more money on hot dogs or
- 25:36sausages or whatever the hell they're spending their money on
- 25:39when they're going to bowl games?
- 25:41I get what they're trying to do, but again, you want to make as
- 25:46much profit as you possibly can as a professional league.
- 25:50So how does that help baseball? When you're losing money, you
- 25:53are losing money. And here's another thing.
- 25:57The way baseball works over the last couple of years and the way
- 26:00they're they've changed these different rules and, and, and
- 26:02trying to make their own, they want to stamp their own, you
- 26:06know, price to their their product.
- 26:09Here's the thing that really turns me off about the game of
- 26:11baseball, and that is the way they're changing baseballs.
- 26:16Look at, look at how many, how many baseball players have we
- 26:18spoken to over the last couple of years that I've said the
- 26:21Bulls are completely different every year.
- 26:24The seams are different. Jabba, you're, you're a pitcher.
- 26:27I you, you've said it. Baseballs are different.
- 26:30They're different than they were when you were pitching.
- 26:32They're lighter, they're heavier, they're you.
- 26:35They're easier to hit home runs with.
- 26:37I don't understand why they're changing the game.
- 26:39It's worked for so many years, for hundreds of years and now
- 26:44all of a sudden, hey, you know what?
- 26:45This is better for the league. It's better for the the the fan
- 26:49to go and get a chance to see their favorite player.
- 26:51Or it's better for the the owners to make more money
- 26:54because it makes more sense of shifting conferences and league
- 26:58and, and, and the way the league is played.
- 27:00I don't agree with anything that Rob Manfred has done over the
- 27:04last couple of years since he's taken over Bud Selig.
- 27:07I've given him an aim. I wouldn't even give him.
- 27:09I'd give him AD minus. I wouldn't give him an F because
- 27:11he hasn't done a lot. I almost gave him a name on
- 27:13this, but he he's a D minus kind of commissioner because even
- 27:18though there are things that he has done that's benefited
- 27:20baseball and has brought sponsorships and advertisements
- 27:23to help out, bring in more money for the players.
- 27:26He has hurt the game because he's trying to put his stamp to
- 27:30the game where it doesn't make sense.
- 27:32And that to me is a turn off as a fan of baseball.
- 27:35I've been a Yankee fan my whole life.
- 27:37I've been watching baseball since Don Mattingly, Danny
- 27:40Turnable, Pat Kelly, Roberto Kelly, Pat, I mean, every single
- 27:44Mike Stanley is the catcher for the New York Yankees.
- 27:47And we could go on and on and on with Dave or Getti.
- 27:50Remember him as a pitcher for the New York Yankees.
- 27:52I got a chance to watch all those Yankee players play in the
- 27:5580s and I love the game. Even though they sucked.
- 27:58I love to watch the New York Yankees.
- 28:00Now I'm watching a Yankee team that absolutely blows.
- 28:02Is this going to help the Yankees out?
- 28:03Is this going to bring in more profit for how Steinburner to go
- 28:07out there and spend more money? No, it's not.
- 28:09It's only going to bring more money and more money to the
- 28:12owners. It's not really helping the
- 28:14players. And the players enjoy traveling.
- 28:17They love to go to Texas, LA and Seattle.
- 28:20I know because I've had conversations with them.
- 28:23They tell me it's a part of the game.
- 28:25It's been a part of the game forever.
- 28:26So the the transition and thinking that this is going to
- 28:29help the league is absolutely false.
- 28:30I think it's going to make the game worse.
- 28:32Yeah, you also look at the expansion that you're seeing in
- 28:35other sports, too, and the way they've had to rearrange and
- 28:38losing rivalries in a sense as well.
- 28:40Because you look at hockey, like the Detroit Red Wings when they
- 28:43move for the Eastern Conference, lost a lot of great rivalries in
- 28:45the Western Conference that they had with the Blackhawks,
- 28:47obviously was the biggest one. And they had Colorado and the
- 28:49Blues. And you're kind of seeing that
- 28:52kind of thing with this potential realignment in
- 28:53baseball, too. Java, you, you being a Braves
- 28:55fan. Like, look, look at this
- 28:56proposal that Fox Sports had. The Braves would be in a
- 28:58division with the Rays, the Marlins and whoever the
- 29:01expansion team is. You look at you would lose
- 29:04rivalries with the Mets. You lose rivalries with the
- 29:06Phillies that I think you've even gotten better in the last
- 29:08five years since the Braves. Was that division speedy?
- 29:11Was that? Was that Charlotte that he semi?
- 29:13Yes. And Charlotte, I think is
- 29:16definitely a likely one, as is Nashville.
- 29:17I think it's a possibility if they were to add a third and a
- 29:19fourth one too on on the West Coast, Portland, I mean, they
- 29:22they'd have to figure out another one, I guess besides
- 29:24that, maybe another one in the Mountain West area.
- 29:27I don't really know. But like, I guess the, the
- 29:31obvious thing that you're looking at here is the fact that
- 29:33they're like when you have American League and National
- 29:35League rivalries that have been around for a while.
- 29:37Because baseball's a sport that has still mostly, I think old
- 29:40school teams, not as much of the expansion team because they did
- 29:43it a little later. Like football.
- 29:45They have some old school teams, but like they're all East Coast
- 29:47teams. I think besides the Rams and the
- 29:4949ers, like everything else is like sixties 70s expansion teams
- 29:52at that point. Baseball, there's some of them
- 29:55that came in the 60s, obviously, but like they haven't expanded
- 29:58since the 90s when the Rockies came in and the Diamondbacks and
- 30:01the Rays teams like that and the Marlins.
- 30:03But still like most of those teams have rivalries that go
- 30:07back further. Look at the look at the good
- 30:09Easting, the Guardians, they're going in division with the
- 30:11Nationals and the Pirates and the Orioles.
- 30:13Are there any rivalries there? No, like they've had rivalries
- 30:16with the Tigers and the Twins and teams like that.
- 30:18So I think it doesn't really make a lot of sense and it
- 30:20defeats the purpose to what they tried in 2022.
- 30:22They want the whole league to play everybody and that's better
- 30:25for the product of what it shows, like who you are as a
- 30:28team when you could beat everyone else.
- 30:30Yeah, and, and speedy too. It's like, and then some people
- 30:32will look at it. Well, now you're, you're
- 30:34creating old ones like with the Brewers when they, they, I think
- 30:37they moved in 98 or whatever. So now it's, I think you lose
- 30:41more than you gang as far as the rivalries per SE.
- 30:46I, I just, for me, I, it's, you're taking too much like
- 30:50you're already changing this game enough, right.
- 30:53And as a baseball periodist, I, I, I agree some changes have to
- 30:56be made with the time. I understand that I'm not
- 30:59oblivious to the fact things do change and I and I get it, but
- 31:04also there there still needs to be some sense of tradition and
- 31:08pride of of how long this game's been going and and what this
- 31:11game stands for. And I, I get kind of where it's,
- 31:17it comes from as far as the travel and, and what maybe the
- 31:22whole, I guess overview of how it would help like.
- 31:26And, and we talked a little bit off air where it's like, OK, now
- 31:30it, it may take away from that, you know, coast to coast travel
- 31:34in division in the AL like, and we've seen that play a part.
- 31:37I remember Mike Socia was screaming about it when we
- 31:40played them in the ALCS in O 9. And that's that.
- 31:44Now it eventually ended up taking away the extra off day
- 31:47because now most of the time you can't just use three pitchers to
- 31:50get through. So it, it's obviously not going
- 31:53to happen tomorrow, next year, even 2 years.
- 31:57And it'll be interesting to see they've they've been talking
- 32:00about expansion teams in Nashville going back to
- 32:03Montreal, which I didn't get to play in Montreal, but everybody
- 32:06that played Montreal loved it and where it, it just becomes
- 32:09sort of like an arrow. Like we do like traveling, but
- 32:13it's, it goes in phases like we like traveling because you're
- 32:16stuck in spring training for so long, then you travel.
- 32:18But then when he gets like August, you're like, all right,
- 32:21I just want to get to the post season and, you know, just be
- 32:24done with it. And so that it goes in waves and
- 32:27ebbs and flows. It's it's awesome because you
- 32:29get to see different cultures, you get to see different things
- 32:31that go along with it. But I just I don't know if this
- 32:36in the if there's more pros than cons throughout the like from
- 32:40top to bottom, Obviously, is it going to create, you know, new
- 32:44rivalries? Yes do am IA fan of new
- 32:47rivalries? Not really.
- 32:48I like the old school ones where there's only certain teams.
- 32:51That really benefit on that though too.
- 32:52Like maybe, maybe the Brewers are one of those teams like now
- 32:55with the Cubs and the Cardinals, probably more than they had in
- 32:56the American League with maybe the Twins were the only one at
- 32:59the time. Yeah, so I it's, it becomes, you
- 33:04know, and some of those they were talking about on MLB.com,
- 33:07it's just like some of them now the travel becomes a little bit
- 33:10better. Obviously for Seattle it sucks.
- 33:13Seattle's closest literally game is 2 1/2 hours away.
- 33:16Like they they have the most plane hours of anybody, right?
- 33:20And so it, it does create some better travel, I guess expenses
- 33:29or travel time or what have you for some teams.
- 33:32But I don't think the pros outweigh the cons of tradition
- 33:37of, of the game of baseball and rivalries.
- 33:40And are you doing it just to make a buck or like Errol said,
- 33:44are you doing it to leave your mark and to say you did
- 33:47something like you, you did it because it's now when they think
- 33:53about the new realignment, my name is attached to it.
- 33:56So I I. Don't know if I don't like it.
- 33:59I don't like the way baseball and Rob Manfred trying to spin
- 34:02the wheel and and try to make a new deal with the devil.
- 34:06And I think baseball is so important to the way sports has
- 34:11really grown. We look at baseball.
- 34:13Baseball's been around longer than any other sport.
- 34:16It's America's pastime. You go and you talk about
- 34:19basketball, you talk about football.
- 34:20Football, all sports have been around for a significant amount
- 34:23of time. We've seen baseball being played
- 34:25in the 1800s. And and again, when when you
- 34:28look at the difference in the specific thoughts of what ramp
- 34:31Rob Manfred's trying to bring and deliver to the game of
- 34:34baseball, I get what he's trying to do.
- 34:36He's trying to bring in the new age of baseball.
- 34:38I got it. I understand what he's trying to
- 34:40do here, and I understand by realigning the game, it's going
- 34:44to make it more interesting for fans to get a chance to see
- 34:47their favorite teams or get a chance over there on the West
- 34:50Coast to get a chance to see more of the LA teams play
- 34:53against each other. That's fine.
- 34:55How does this make sense for the game of baseball when it's been
- 34:57around for a long, long time? It's like this.
- 35:00The Yankees and the Mets in the same division.
- 35:03It's just like the Islanders and the Rangers in the same division
- 35:06now. The Islanders and the Rangers in
- 35:08the old, in the olden days, in the eight 90s, they weren't in
- 35:11the same division that there was an Atlantic Division.
- 35:13It was a different, I, I forget how it was put together, but it
- 35:17it was different there. There was no National League or
- 35:20American League and there was an East and West and the the
- 35:22Islanders and the Rangers were both in the East and West, but
- 35:25they were in different divisions.
- 35:26Yeah, wasn't it the Campbell and the Patrick?
- 35:28Whatever it was, I I don't remember I, I, I again, I'm, I'm
- 35:31not going to go back to remember that I and if you guys want to
- 35:34look it up, you look it up. What I'm saying here is it I
- 35:38understand, understand what baseball's trying to do.
- 35:40If they think it's going to benefit the game and it's going
- 35:43to bring in more profits, well then Rob Manford and the leaders
- 35:47and owners are going to do whatever, whatever.
- 35:50It's going to bring in more profit to the game.
- 35:53I think that obviously the game and the change of the game is
- 35:56interesting. By the way, baseball has really
- 35:59driven the younger fans to come and watch it now.
- 36:03A lot of fans and a lot of parents have tried to keep the
- 36:06kids away, keep the kids away from football because of all the
- 36:09CTE situations and speculations that these kids are going brain
- 36:12dead or or these kids are not hitting.
- 36:15We're not technically hitting or getting on the field on the
- 36:18football field and doing the right things on a football
- 36:20field. And no parent wants them to play
- 36:21football if they're going to go brain dead or they're going to
- 36:23have CTE in the future. I've seen that before and I've
- 36:26understand why parents are pushing them to play not fully
- 36:30contacted sports like baseball by baseball.
- 36:33How many times do you see them running to each other except
- 36:35usually the third baseman running to the catcher?
- 36:37And even then and even even now, you don't really see that
- 36:40anymore. Baseball is taking that away.
- 36:42So I, I think that's why parents are trying to drive them to play
- 36:45baseball more. If there's more money in
- 36:47baseball than in there is in any sport.
- 36:49Basketball obviously has been a sport that's driving so much
- 36:53different international ways to bring in sponsorships and
- 36:56advertisements. And there's only 13 players on a
- 36:59basketball team. That's why the 13th player is
- 37:01making four or $5,000,000 to the, I don't know, 17th or 18th
- 37:06player on a baseball team, they're making $500,000.
- 37:10So I, I mean, it's a different game.
- 37:12It's a different way that it's played.
- 37:13It's different way to situate the money to go to the
- 37:17superstar, to the secondary backup outfielder.
- 37:21It's different. Now, if it's going to drive more
- 37:24money and more revenue for the backup player to make more
- 37:26money, then that's what baseball's going to do.
- 37:28This isn't going to help baseball.
- 37:30I, I do believe bringing in new franchises is going to help
- 37:33baseball. I, I do because it will bring in
- 37:36more money. It'll bring more fandom.
- 37:37Where would you put expansion team like if, if in a perfect
- 37:40world like take this alignment away, right?
- 37:43Like, let's throw that up. Charlotte is definitely a place
- 37:46that I would put a baseball team because we've, we've spoken who,
- 37:49who do we speak to, Rick? Curdy was the guy.
- 37:51Curdy. Rick Curdy was on our show and
- 37:52he's been pushing for a Charlotte baseball team forever.
- 37:56Forever. They've been trying to do it and
- 37:58baseball over there in Charlotte is huge.
- 38:00It's right between, it's right over there by Atlanta.
- 38:03They would drive more Atlanta fans to go in and and become
- 38:06Charlotte fans and I and he says it's a huge, huge baseball city.
- 38:12That's what he says. Yeah.
- 38:13I mean, you got the Durham Bulls and and stuff like that over
- 38:16there. Portland is an interesting place
- 38:17to the Portland Trail Blazers have been around, was around for
- 38:22a a long, long time and and now Portland is trying to drive more
- 38:27sports teams over there. I mean, I would love to see a
- 38:30port, a Portland hockey team over there because it's right
- 38:33there on the cusp of Canada. You talk about Seattle and
- 38:36Portland, they're right there up West where Canada is.
- 38:39So that'll bring in Vancouver fans.
- 38:41That's going to bring in more Canadian fans to come and watch
- 38:44their sports teams. So I would like to see that as
- 38:46well. Baseball over there in Portland,
- 38:49Portland and Seattle that that would be fun to watch to get a
- 38:51chance to see two cities right next to each other go against
- 38:54one another on the West Coast. So I, I think Charlotte and
- 38:58Portland make a lot of sense. Nashville, I don't know,
- 39:01Nashville's big with their, their music, they're big with
- 39:04their football, baseball, I don't know, the Nashville
- 39:08Predators are big over there and they're driving fandom and, and
- 39:11they're bringing in many different fans where you
- 39:13wouldn't believe that the, the cowboy wannabes over there that
- 39:19are going to drive to want to watch hockey.
- 39:21But now hockey's a big sport over there and the Predators are
- 39:25huge over there, as we've seen over the last couple of years.
- 39:28So and they're and they're built very well and, and, and they
- 39:31have a very good VP or now I guess he's now the GM of the
- 39:34organization and Barry Trotz. So I, I mean, there is
- 39:38opportunity and where there's opportunity, there's money and
- 39:41where there's money, that's where baseball's going to be
- 39:43surfing. I don't care about bringing an
- 39:46expansion. That's a great idea.
- 39:48That's not, that's not what I'm attacking.
- 39:50I'm not attacking Rob Manford to try to bring in expansion and
- 39:53bring in new cities to and build teams in those cities.
- 39:57I'm not complaining about that. What I'm complaining about right
- 40:00now is the realignment of the leagues.
- 40:03Baseball doesn't work that way as.
- 40:05A Giants fan before the NFL change to the setup that now is
- 40:10being suggested for baseball. The Phoenix Cardinals were in
- 40:13the NFC East forever. They were the Saint Louis
- 40:17Cardinals until like the mid 80s or whatever, but they were in
- 40:20the NFCS and I got to be honest with you, I don't miss playing
- 40:24the Cardinals. They were just some team.
- 40:25They were bad Jake the snake plumber and they had the best
- 40:28receiving fullback in Larry Centers and a whole bunch of.
- 40:31Nothing on that team. Yep.
- 40:33And a whole bunch of nothing. And now that they're playing out
- 40:37West, I see, you know, Kyler Murray, I don't think of, oh,
- 40:40this is the team that used to be in our division.
- 40:43I think they should have always been there.
- 40:44And I don't really care about that team.
- 40:46So I don't think that's actually a bad thing to try to have you
- 40:49play more relevant teams. Like when I'm coaching football,
- 40:52we don't want to drive 2 1/2 hours away.
- 40:55This year, we have to drive to Binghamton, face the team three
- 40:57hours away. We don't want to play teams like
- 40:58that. We want to play teams that, you
- 41:00know, are in the area that we have bragging rights with.
- 41:03I'm sure on the pro level with the travel is one thing, but I,
- 41:06I, I guess fans, I could care less about games against the
- 41:11Phoenix Cardinals when they were a kid and I don't care about
- 41:13them now. So I don't think it necessarily
- 41:15would be that bad. It would just be the whole
- 41:17getting rid of the American League and National League part
- 41:19of it that would rub a lot of people and myself the wrong way.
- 41:22Like there's so much history. Like I hate the fact that they
- 41:24just don't care about. That I, I would agree with.
- 41:27Obviously baseball changing the DH to pitchers hitting because
- 41:31it, it, to me, it benefits the American League.
- 41:34And I thought that baseball bringing the DH to the National
- 41:37League has helped the National League.
- 41:39I really do. And it and it keeps guys playing
- 41:42in the leagues a little bit longer and, and obviously
- 41:44players that are can't play the field anymore now could be an
- 41:48automatic DH. So I think it's helped baseball.
- 41:50So things that baseball has brought to the forefront has
- 41:53helped the game of baseball. When, when you hear Michael
- 41:56Caine, Harry Rose, go back and forth with one another on X or
- 42:00whatever you call it, Twitter on social media and go back and
- 42:03forth agreeing 1 agreeing with Rob Manford, the other one not
- 42:06agreeing with Rob Manford. And you're going to go back and
- 42:09forth and you're going to, you're going to, there's going
- 42:10to be a devil and there's going to be an Angel.
- 42:12There's going to be back and forth banter one way or another
- 42:14because not everybody's going to agree to it.
- 42:17I, I don't think changing conferences or getting rid of
- 42:21the National League or the American League is going to make
- 42:23any sense to what baseball is and what baseball has done for
- 42:27the fans, the old fans and now the new fans, now the younger
- 42:30fans and, and the younger fans trying to find ways to try
- 42:34themselves to bet on fantasy. Maybe it helps the fantasy world
- 42:37out because it's a change that's something or the betting man or
- 42:40woman out there that that want to spend a little bit more money
- 42:43on baseball. But how does that benefit the
- 42:46situation for what it is? I, I don't get this.
- 42:48I, I understand we're, we're trying to nitpick or trying to
- 42:51figure out things to talk about when it comes to sports, because
- 42:54this is not the time of year to figure out what to talk about
- 42:57because this is not the best year or the best time of year to
- 43:00talk sports because football's not around or three seasons
- 43:03around the corner. And then, yeah, well, it's, it's
- 43:06right now happening. And then the NHL and the NBA is
- 43:08not happening until, you know, probably in the next couple of
- 43:11weeks. So you're trying to nitpick and
- 43:12trying to find stories to talk about.
- 43:14And Rob Manfred is coming out with a story that is interesting
- 43:17or people want to talk about. This is nothing to me until it,
- 43:21it even becomes to fruition. Even even the, the conversations
- 43:24start to talk. He's mentioning it.
- 43:26Bob Nightingale is saying things and writing things that Bob is
- 43:29very well respected in the baseball world.
- 43:31And, and again, when you how when you hear Howie, Howie Rose,
- 43:35who's a Hall of Fame broadcaster and a Hall of Fame personality,
- 43:39and then Michael Kay, who's a Hall of Fame personality, go at
- 43:42it with one another on social media, you, you, you question
- 43:46the fact that Rob Manfred is spitting stuff and hopefully
- 43:49it'll stick. And again, are the owners are
- 43:51going to, are the owners going to agree to this too?
- 43:54I don't, I understand when, if George Steinbrenner was alive
- 43:57right now and George Stanburner was an old classy type of guy,
- 44:02he was like he was a guy that believed in the old style of
- 44:04baseball. Do you think George Steinbrenner
- 44:07would have agreed to this pitch clock?
- 44:10Do you think that George Steinbrenner would have liked
- 44:12that the bases are a little bit bigger, a little bit closer or
- 44:14whatever shift and completely knocking out shifting?
- 44:19Even though I thought shifting has affected the game since the
- 44:23Rays decided to really double Joe Madden decided to jump in on
- 44:28it and make it make it part of their game.
- 44:30I, I think I understand what, what baseball's trying to do.
- 44:34They're trying to bring in the younger fan.
- 44:35I understand it. It makes sense why baseball
- 44:38believes that this is, is, is going to be beneficial for the
- 44:41younger fan. But for the older fans, the fans
- 44:44like me that are in my 40s, fifties, 60s, guys that are
- 44:47dedicated to watch just baseball.
- 44:50There are fans right now that are not big football fans.
- 44:53They're baseball fans. There are fans that are not
- 44:55interested in hockey. Nobody cares about hockey,
- 44:58Boomer, as we hear on WFAN, Nobody.
- 45:01Some people don't care about hockey.
- 45:03Baseball is popular no matter where you go here in the United
- 45:06States. And when you're telling me that
- 45:09the Mets and the Yankees are going to play in the same
- 45:11division, that to me hurts. It hurts the value of what I
- 45:16love to watch over the years when they brought Inter League
- 45:18Baseball to the to the forefront when Winter League Baseball was
- 45:22here and started. I love the fact that I got a
- 45:25chance to see the Yankees in the Mets square off against one
- 45:27another four times in a year. Now I'm going to have to see
- 45:30them square off 12/13/14 times. Get a chance to see Juan Soto
- 45:34smack the Yankees around when he gets hot in the, you know, when
- 45:38he plays the Yankees 1415 times in a season.
- 45:41I don't want to see that. That's the thing, I, I don't, I
- 45:44don't get what baseball is trying to do.
- 45:45Again, we can go on and on and on about this.
- 45:48It doesn't benefit the game of baseball.
- 45:51And if it doesn't benefit the game of baseball, why is this
- 45:53even being brought up again? The whole expansion thing makes
- 45:57sense. Do it if if you can bring a
- 46:00baseball team to Charlotte, you can bring a baseball team to
- 46:03Portland, whatever city bring, bring six teams to baseball.
- 46:07If it makes sense and it's going to drive people to want to watch
- 46:10it in those cities and drive more fans to go and chance to go
- 46:14to a ballpark and go and watch professional baseball, then do
- 46:18it. But this, the shifting of
- 46:20divisions and conferences and making one league to another
- 46:24league or whatever the hell he's trying to do to realign the
- 46:26league. This doesn't make sense.
- 46:28That's all I'm going to say. It doesn't make sense.
- 46:32I think baseball needs to figure out what their identity is.
- 46:35And Rob Manfred shouldn't be the guy that's going to decide it
- 46:38because that is been the problem.
- 46:40He is the worst commissioner right now in professional
- 46:42sports. I don't care what anybody says.
- 46:44And Roger Goodell is not one of those smartest ones, but he's
- 46:47not he's not that dumb because he's bringing he's making 5055
- 46:51million a year. He's got his own jet and he's
- 46:53him and his family have their own benefits until the day he he
- 46:55dies and the day his family dies.
- 46:58So he's pretty damn smart, but he's also a guy that people
- 47:01don't like. But this story, the fact that
- 47:04Rob Manfred is trying to spin the wheel and make the deal,
- 47:07this doesn't help baseball. It's not cleaning up the game of
- 47:10baseball only does or the only thing it does is it makes me
- 47:13upset and it tells me that I have no interest in watching the
- 47:16game of baseball anymore. Guys, how many games do you
- 47:19think I've watched when it comes to a full game of baseball this
- 47:22year? Speedy, take a guess, give me a
- 47:24number. How many full games have you
- 47:26thought? When you and I know you watch a
- 47:28lot of baseball, how many games do you think I've watched this
- 47:31season? Full.
- 47:32Full games from from what? From the first inning to the 9th
- 47:36inning. 16 Fish. I don't know, probably like a
- 47:42dozen, but maybe, maybe since you haven't seen that many,
- 47:45maybe we could dive inside. Baseball, just take a guess.
- 47:49I just want to. I want you to take a guess. 12.
- 47:52Jabba, how many games do you think I've watched fully in in
- 47:54the baseball season so far? 4. 4 scoops.
- 47:59How many? How many do you think I'm?
- 48:00Gonna say 10. You know how many games?
- 48:03Eight games, 8 full games this year.
- 48:06I go in and out of Yankee games. I don't care.
- 48:09I don't I don't care about the regular season anymore.
- 48:11It makes no sense to me. And and again, everything that
- 48:14we're watching when it comes to baseball is just absolute
- 48:17ludicrous. It doesn't get important till
- 48:18the last two months of the baseball season.
- 48:21Then I'll sit there and watch a full Yankee game.
- 48:23I'll, I'll watch from, from, I would say from the month of
- 48:27August all the way into September.
- 48:29I will watch every single Yankee game.
- 48:31And now we're we're in the month of August.
- 48:33The Yankees suck so much. And I don't care about what
- 48:36people are saying about this team because the Yankees aren't
- 48:38making the playoffs. I don't care.
- 48:39So I've watched 8 full games for the New York Yankees.
- 48:42There's so everybody understands why where I see baseball and
- 48:46what I think baseball is right now.
- 48:48I've watched 8 full Yankee games all season long.
- 48:51That doesn't mean I haven't watched Yankee games, I just
- 48:54haven't watched them fully. I'll watch 4 innings and I'll be
- 48:56done with this. I don't care about this.
- 48:58I'll watch 6 innings, I'm done. I'll watch 2 innings, I'm done.
- 49:01I I have no interest in watching the game anymore.
- 49:04It's boring. It doesn't matter how fast it is
- 49:06or how quick the game is. To me it doesn't get exciting
- 49:10until the last two months. Just like basketball, how many
- 49:13times have we've heard people watched it come on this show and
- 49:16tell me, oh, I don't watch basketball until the last 3-4
- 49:19weeks of the basketball season because nobody cares about the
- 49:22regular season of basketball. It only gets more interesting
- 49:25the last month when they're fighting for a playoff spot and,
- 49:28and even in the playoffs, the first round of the playoffs, how
- 49:30many people really strategically watch the first round of the
- 49:34playoffs? Nobody cares because everybody
- 49:36knows mostly, most likely we know the guys that are going
- 49:39into the second round. So that's, that's all I'm
- 49:42saying. And I think sports, I understand
- 49:45sports are trying to figure out and configure ways to make the
- 49:47game interesting or more driving for the youngsters.
- 49:50I just don't agree with it. I don't like what they're trying
- 49:52to do. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 49:55we're going to get into inside baseball.
- 49:57Now let's go deep, deep inside what I am exciting.
- 50:01This is inside baseball. Well, Errol, let's get the music
- 50:10on, please, for INSIDE Baseball. Let's get into it.
- 50:13Errol, you said you haven't watched that much.
- 50:16Full games. Full games of the Yankees.
- 50:18I've watched Yankee games. I've watched probably I've
- 50:21popped on a Yankee game all season long.
- 50:24I'm not watching a full Yankee game.
- 50:26I've watched eight games. Fully.
- 50:29Well, guess who else isn't watching?
- 50:32Aaron Boone. Because Aaron Boone said that in
- 50:35a in a quote to the media said that Judge isn't going to be
- 50:38able to throw normal again this year.
- 50:41And then Aaron Judge the next day said that's not true at all.
- 50:46He hasn't even watched me throw at all.
- 50:52Not on the same page, guys. Aaron Judge because he hasn't
- 50:56been able to throw so far. They've had to sit Giancarlo
- 50:59Stanton. Giancarlo Stanton is hitting
- 51:02like 300 and hit two home runs. Yesterday, the Yankees had nine
- 51:05home runs, second time this season, eighth time in the
- 51:09entire history of the Yankees. But of course, that was the big
- 51:14great output. They swept the the Cardinals,
- 51:16but before that, they weren't doing well.
- 51:18They have a huge series this weekend with the Boston Red Sox.
- 51:23Do you think that the little mini hot streak they're on right
- 51:26now is going to be able to carry them in the most important
- 51:30series of the year? No, I think the Yankees right
- 51:33now are a crappy team in a crappy organization.
- 51:36They got to figure out what they're doing with their manager
- 51:38and they're going to have to figure out what they're doing
- 51:39with their GM. It doesn't matter what's going
- 51:42to happen when they play the Red Sox in a couple of days or a
- 51:45week from now, because the Yankees shouldn't make the
- 51:47playoffs. The Boston Red Sox have been the
- 51:49better team in the American League.
- 51:51In the American League East, the Yankees have not been a very
- 51:54good team. Really.
- 51:56Two weeks before the All Star break and they've been horrible
- 51:58since then. The only player that's actually
- 52:00hitting and playing good baseball for the New York
- 52:03Yankees is Bellinger. He's the only one.
- 52:06The team stinks. How many times do I have to tell
- 52:08you guys we could go over and over and over and over again
- 52:11about the New York Yankees? Aaron Boone is as good as gone,
- 52:14as good as gone. And Brian Cashman, Don't be
- 52:17surprised if he steps down at the end of the season.
- 52:20This team is in the gutter right now.
- 52:22There's nothing good about this team and Aaron Judge throwing
- 52:26the ball or being an automatic DH.
- 52:29It's not going to make a difference.
- 52:31They're not making the playoffs. They're not good.
- 52:33So it doesn't matter if they're playing the Red Sox, It doesn't
- 52:37matter if they're playing Seattle.
- 52:38It doesn't matter if they're playing the New York frigging
- 52:41Mets. The Yankee stick Game over.
- 52:44Put a cork in them. Yeah, it's one of those things
- 52:47that yeah, you look at Aaron Judge and you were saying, all
- 52:48right, how long are they going to need him to DH?
- 52:50And we're thinking it was going to be only like a 10 day period.
- 52:53Aaron Boonthal even could have been earlier than that.
- 52:55This kind of report definitely screams a lot more alarming if
- 52:58he's not going to be able to throw properly at all.
- 53:00Nevertheless, the range in the outfield, but from any spot in
- 53:03the outfield, throwing it deep. Judge has always had a good arm
- 53:06throughout his career too, and now you're going to have to have
- 53:08him DH more. That hurts the fact that Yankees
- 53:10have built up so many other like outfield DH types and it's just
- 53:13really not I good for the Yankees identity right now.
- 53:16Yeah, and I think you got to be on the same page.
- 53:18You don't obviously coming from Judge, it's a little bit
- 53:20different than coming from everybody else.
- 53:22And it wasn't good. They Boone kind of backed off on
- 53:25it, whatever. But you know, obviously he was
- 53:27said. So people are going to look into
- 53:28it and see what it is. But yeah, it's if he's saying
- 53:30that it's, it's not good and everybody's not on the same
- 53:33page. All right, let's go to the next
- 53:36one. What we have here is a really
- 53:39weird story. I don't know if you were
- 53:41following this arrow, but Kettle Marte, All Star second baseman
- 53:45for the Arizona Diamondbacks, had to apologize to the team for
- 53:50being missing in action. He he was robbed.
- 53:53Apparently his house was robbed during the All Star break.
- 53:56He had some issues back home. I got a couple of quotes here.
- 53:58He was frustrated in a bad spot. He no showed the first series
- 54:02back from the break. The team did great without him.
- 54:05They swept thing was the Cardinals and a lot of sweeping
- 54:08of the Cardinals going on right now.
- 54:10But then when he came back, they lost 9 of 10.
- 54:13There's apparently a lot of weirdness going on with him in
- 54:16the clubhouse. Here's what manager Tori Lovolo
- 54:18said. I know there's an elephant in
- 54:20the room and I'll just say what I want to say about it.
- 54:22I know Kettle talked to you guys and I'm proud of him for doing
- 54:24that. That's not easy for him to do.
- 54:26I know he showed some vulnerability.
- 54:27I'm really proud of him digging in the way he did.
- 54:30What I'll say about Kettle are things I know he's a great
- 54:32teammate. He's a great young man.
- 54:34He plays hard every single day for the Diamondbacks.
- 54:36He just just wants to win baseball games.
- 54:38That's it, guys. I don't, I don't know if you've
- 54:42ever had like a situation like this with a teammate, but it
- 54:45certainly seems like we're not being told most of this story
- 54:48and that's something pretty weird happened here.
- 54:50Michael Jordan was not really not liked by any of the players
- 54:54on the team, but they won ball game.
- 54:56They won ball games. Michael Jordan is one of the
- 54:58greatest basketball players of all time.
- 55:00When he went and he practiced, everybody was expected to play
- 55:04at the top of their game. He it didn't matter if it was a
- 55:06practice or an NBA game. He expected you to play at your
- 55:09full talent. When you look at this Kettle
- 55:12story and all this other stuff, if Kettle's going out there and
- 55:15throwing players under the bus and not getting along with
- 55:18teammates, you got to get rid of them.
- 55:19Now he's going out there and he's saying the things that he
- 55:22has said over the last couple of seasons or the last couple of
- 55:25weeks and and he hasn't played well and he couldn't stay
- 55:28healthy and all this other stuff.
- 55:29And then he's having problems over there during the All Star
- 55:32break and then he comes back and they're not waiting.
- 55:34Obviously there's a specific situation right now that is not
- 55:38working out. Players do not want to play for
- 55:39him and the team just doesn't want to stand behind him.
- 55:42So obviously there's a big problem over.
- 55:43There. Yeah.
- 55:44You wonder if that's something that could have hurt trade
- 55:45deadline value too, because it looked like the Diamondbacks
- 55:47were trying to go for big swings with him, especially since he's
- 55:50been been MVP finalists each of the last two years.
- 55:53And I I was advocating for it to be a big move.
- 55:55If the Yankees made a big swing or one of the one of these
- 55:58American League teams, the Guardians that were going for a
- 56:00big swing on offense, I think that could have been a player.
- 56:03They're doing it. Maybe, maybe teams in front
- 56:04offices were alarmed by the way he was as a as a leader, as a
- 56:07culture guy for that Diamondbacks team.
- 56:09Because two years ago, just two years ago, they were in the
- 56:11World Series. It looked like he was like
- 56:13resurrecting his career on the top of the world.
- 56:14And now all of a sudden it's the complete opposite.
- 56:17Yeah, it's, I mean with Katel and all the things that
- 56:19happened, it's, you know, he's a person personality.
- 56:21He's he's gone through a lot this year.
- 56:23So I think it all just kind of came to a head and, you know, it
- 56:26just was one of those things where, you know, just added fuel
- 56:30to the fire and, you know, sometimes you just need to check
- 56:32yourself and, and have a self talk and, you know, just being a
- 56:36leader. It's it's a little different
- 56:37and, and much more is required. So you know, it's now it's water
- 56:42under the bridge. Move on, keep going, keep it
- 56:43moving. All right, Speaking of keeping
- 56:46it moving, let's go to the team that's been moving to the top of
- 56:49the standings for the last couple of months, That's the
- 56:52Milwaukee Brewers. They're the best team in
- 56:54baseball. It's kind of remarkable how
- 56:57they've done that, at least record wise right now.
- 56:59Obviously, before they got swept in a doubleheader yesterday by
- 57:02the Cubs, they won the first game of that series, so they're
- 57:04going for the split tonight. They've been short of
- 57:07unstoppable. They're 79 and 4732 games over
- 57:11507 game lead on the Cubs. They've won before that.
- 57:16They won 29 of 33 games. Incredible.
- 57:20They have the top starting pitcher ERA of in all of
- 57:23baseball. Their staff is Freddy Peralta, a
- 57:26healthy Brandon Woodruff, who has a brand new repertoire of
- 57:29pitches, not a fastball pitcher like he used to be.
- 57:32So he reinvented himself. Veteran Jose Quintana, Jets,
- 57:35Mets fans know about him. He's he's picked it up.
- 57:39And you know, after a shaky first month or so, Quinn
- 57:42Priester was traded for nothing by the Red Sox to the Brewers at
- 57:47the beginning of the season. He's been a revelation out
- 57:50there. And then I haven't even
- 57:51mentioned Jacob Mesorowski, who is the electric rookie throwing
- 57:56103 with mid 90s sliders. The only real name on the roster
- 58:00arrows Christian Yelich, who's past his prime MVP years, but
- 58:03he's still hitting 265 with 26 homers.
- 58:06He's having a good year. There's a series of players
- 58:09having great years from William Contreras to 2nd year second
- 58:12baseman Bryce Tarang, who's an elite defender who's got the
- 58:16biggest jump in exit velocity of anyone in Major League Baseball,
- 58:19going from like the bottom of the barrel of of exit velocity
- 58:22to hitting like 70th percentile. And they have all these guys
- 58:26that you may have heard their name, Sal Frelich, Blake
- 58:29Perkins, Isaac Collins is a good rookie.
- 58:32And then there's Yankees prospect, former Yankees
- 58:35prospect Caleb Durbin, who was traded for you.
- 58:39Got it, Devin Williams, who is doing it.
- 58:43So here's the question, is this team a real World Series
- 58:46favorite? Or is it just an incredible hot
- 58:49streak for our for a good young team that's maybe ahead of
- 58:52schedule? Time will tell when when it
- 58:53comes to Milwaukee. Milwaukee is not a good playoff
- 58:55team. They have proven that they're
- 58:57not a good playoff team. They don't show up in the
- 58:59playoffs. We know what the Mets did to
- 59:01them last year or they were a pretty good team last year.
- 59:03And and then you remember somebody named the Polar Bear
- 59:07slaps A3 run home run in the later innings and wins the game
- 59:10and knocks them out. So only time will tell.
- 59:12I don't know if Milwaukee's the real deal until they get out of
- 59:15the first round. The well, it's not going to be a
- 59:17wild card because they're they're going to win the
- 59:19National League. But whatever, whatever they do
- 59:22in the divisional series is going to be my thoughts of what
- 59:25they could do in the National League Championship.
- 59:27Yeah, it's a very 2021 Giants field that I kind of have with
- 59:30them too, because there's some advanced metrics where it comes
- 59:32when it comes to power, when it comes to extra base hits that
- 59:34the Brewers offense has not been great at.
- 59:36So I'm still a little concerned about that even amidst all that.
- 59:39Like they they scream really good on paper, but it's like one
- 59:42of those teams where are they really as as good as that down
- 59:44the road in that playoff identity like Errol was saying
- 59:47too, like the Brewers have not won a playoff series since 2018
- 59:50when they went to the NLCS and lost a tight one to the Dodgers,
- 59:53lost A7 game series. So can they find that playoff
- 59:55identity again will be another question.
- 59:57But like Corey Hart was saying yesterday, they are really well
- 1:00:00run organization and deserve a lot more respect for the kind of
- 1:00:03factory they put together as a lower market team.
- 1:00:05Yeah, and you add Brain and Woodruff, who almost been out
- 1:00:08two years and, you know, coming back from serious stuff and, you
- 1:00:11know, doing what he's done since he's come back from injury,
- 1:00:14that's a huge, huge piece to what they're going to do.
- 1:00:17And you know, I think they they have the pieces.
- 1:00:21But yeah, it's just when it gets to to nut cut and time in the
- 1:00:24playoffs, they they fall a little short time in and time
- 1:00:27out. So adding an arm like that, I
- 1:00:28think that's helped. They got some guys that want to
- 1:00:30prove some stuff in the postseason.
- 1:00:31So time will tell. I'll just say this before we
- 1:00:35move on, I love Tarang. Tarang is like one of these guys
- 1:00:38I took as my sleeper in fantasy this year.
- 1:00:41That guy they got, I'm going to give him the nickname that no
- 1:00:43one's given them yet. The Tarangutang.
- 1:00:46There we go, the Tarangutang. All right, we've got a couple
- 1:00:49more going on here before we get into it.
- 1:00:53We got to go to right to injuries.
- 1:00:54There's been there was a major, major injury, Arrow, Zach
- 1:00:58Wheeler, he is on the IL definitely.
- 1:01:03He had the old blood clot in the throwing arm.
- 1:01:06So they did surgery to remove it.
- 1:01:08I immediately always think of David Cone when you hear about
- 1:01:12this one. He had that armpit surgery and I
- 1:01:15think it was, was it 96 actually?
- 1:01:17And he came back or it was one of those years that they won.
- 1:01:20It was might, maybe it was 98. But regardless, that one can
- 1:01:25knock out even the best pitcher and Wheeler's been a top five
- 1:01:27pitcher in baseball all season. Other injuries, Felix Bautista
- 1:01:32the OR another guy the Orioles depended on, they thought he was
- 1:01:35going to come back from surgery. Let's from Tommy John now he's
- 1:01:39got been shoulder surgery. He was there closer just says a
- 1:01:41lot about what happened there this year.
- 1:01:43Francisco Alvarez, the Mets catcher, he has the backwards
- 1:01:49Tommy John, the one that you don't have surgery on, the one
- 1:01:51that was on the thumb. So there's the elbow part of it
- 1:01:54at the end on one side and the thumb part of the UCL on the
- 1:01:57other. I think Dustin Pedroia famously
- 1:01:59had that injury and really couldn't play that well after
- 1:02:02it, but Alvarez has that one. He's on the IL.
- 1:02:05Vlad Guerrero, junior, not on the IL yet, but if you saw him
- 1:02:09do the splits at first base, you'd understand why he might go
- 1:02:14on the IL. What an incredible stretch.
- 1:02:16But he he even jogged off. But they're saying that he has
- 1:02:20some inflammation in the hand. He's from doing the splits.
- 1:02:22Jacob degroms, he's going to miss a start.
- 1:02:24Shoulder fatigue. And Adley Ruchman again, another
- 1:02:28Oriole was supposed to be, you know, one of the great catchers
- 1:02:32in the league. He's going to be out of town at
- 1:02:34the end of this year. He's got another injury.
- 1:02:36The Zach Wheeler one is scary. I mean, blood clots.
- 1:02:39When you hear blood clots, that's usually something that's
- 1:02:42never going to go away. We've heard that from basketball
- 1:02:44players webbing Yama. I've been saying he's young.
- 1:02:46Zach Wheeler is what, 3334 years old?
- 1:02:48He's at the tail end of his career.
- 1:02:50He already says that he wants to live out his contract, and after
- 1:02:53his contract's out, he's probably not going to extend.
- 1:02:56He wants to retire. So that's the scariest one out
- 1:02:59of all of them. The other injuries are
- 1:03:01significant. The Groms always hurt, but Zach
- 1:03:04Wheeler having blood clots? That's the scariest one out of
- 1:03:07all of them. Yeah, you definitely feel for
- 1:03:08somebody like that to a guy that's been pretty after his
- 1:03:11Mets career, has been pretty healthy in his Philly's career
- 1:03:13so far. And that's definitely a scary
- 1:03:15thought. Obviously we saw it with Chris
- 1:03:17Bosh in his career when his career ended and somebody like
- 1:03:20Steven Stamp Coast and the NHL have not really been the same
- 1:03:23health wise since then. So you hope Wheeler doesn't
- 1:03:25accumulate for him, that kind of thing.
- 1:03:27As far as Alvarez, definitely a big loss.
- 1:03:29You starting to play a little better for the Mets, but again,
- 1:03:31the Mets have bigger problems than their lineup right now.
- 1:03:34The blood clots scary because you just don't know what that's
- 1:03:36going to happen. Another one that just came out
- 1:03:38that you didn't touch on fish was a wise ago.
- 1:03:40They say he has a flexor strain now.
- 1:03:42So we all yeah. So we all know what that leads
- 1:03:45to. But yeah, this time of the year
- 1:03:47where things start popping up, which it's obviously not a great
- 1:03:49time of the year, but going through it, some key pieces that
- 1:03:52are lost and you know, it's, I mean, it sucks being hurt and
- 1:03:56what happens. And you know, there's some some
- 1:03:58tough ones out there and we'll see if they can pick up the
- 1:04:01slack or some of those guys in big names.
- 1:04:02So find out what happens. Yeah, we will find out what
- 1:04:06happens. We got only about 35 games left
- 1:04:08in the season. We'll see what happens inside
- 1:04:12baseball as it plays out. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:04:15now it's my deuce of the day. The deuce of the day.
- 1:04:19You log, not a log. I don't have a log but.
- 1:04:29Ladies and gentlemen, the 49ers are in the tabloids again, and
- 1:04:32it seems like the 49ers can't control their own players as
- 1:04:36Kyle Shanahan suspends DeMarcus Robertson.
- 1:04:39Yes, they're bringing in wide receivers because they can't
- 1:04:42keep them. They're on the DL or whatever
- 1:04:45the hell they are. They trade them away.
- 1:04:46Debo Debo Samuels no longer with them, he's with Washington.
- 1:04:50Since signing wide receiver DeMarcus Robinson in March, the
- 1:04:53San Francisco 49ers have been bracing for him to be suspended
- 1:04:58for the first 3 games of the season as part of the fallout
- 1:05:02from the misdemeanor of DUI charge.
- 1:05:04On Wednesday, Niners coach Kyle Shannon revealed on KNBR Radio
- 1:05:10in San Francisco that Robertson has indeed been suspended for
- 1:05:15the next three weeks. D Rob were not going to have
- 1:05:21through the 1st 3 weeks, Shannon said.
- 1:05:23You can always appeal it, but ladies and gentlemen, there's no
- 1:05:27way of appealing this. He this is a guy that can't stay
- 1:05:30out of trouble. They bring him to the team.
- 1:05:32This is not the first time DeMarcus Robinson has gotten in
- 1:05:35trouble. He's been in the league for
- 1:05:36quite a few years and he still puts himself in harm's way.
- 1:05:40And the 49ers can't control their own players.
- 1:05:42They're bringing in guys from other rosters and can't control
- 1:05:46their players. I don't know, man, Kyle
- 1:05:48Shanahan's it really on the hot seat.
- 1:05:50I don't care what anybody says, him and John Lynch are
- 1:05:53absolutely on the hot seat. And all it spells to me is
- 1:05:58delusion. As we all know, Owen believes,
- 1:06:01and he's delusional about this team, that they're going to be a
- 1:06:04playoff team. They're not a playoff team.
- 1:06:06This team is going to fall flat on their face this year.
- 1:06:08And the 49ers can't control their own players.
- 1:06:11They bring Bambi out and they bring all this garbage back and
- 1:06:14it's never going to work. This team is done for as they're
- 1:06:18in a division that's going to be run by the LA Rams.
- 1:06:21So my deuce of the day goes to the incompetent Kyle Shanahan
- 1:06:26and the San Francisco 49ers. I want to apologize to all the
- 1:06:30fans in the beginning of the show with my Vertigo situation
- 1:06:33that usually never happens. It's it hasn't happened on the
- 1:06:36show really for 13 years. It's never happened to me
- 1:06:40before. I it got worse probably two
- 1:06:42years ago. There are days than others that
- 1:06:46I get it, but I don't throw up like that.
- 1:06:48I, my face, fucking excuse my language turned purple.
- 1:06:52I went to the bathroom. I did what I had to do.
- 1:06:54I didn't even think I was going to get through the show.
- 1:06:56So I want to apologize to the fans with that.
- 1:06:59But All in all, we got through the show.
- 1:07:01I don't know how I did it, but thank you to all the fans
- 1:07:03following us on Spotify and Apple.
- 1:07:05Keep following us. YouTube, Twitter or X, whatever
- 1:07:08you call it, TikTok, Instagram, all of them.
- 1:07:11Thank you to all the fans for continuing continuously.
- 1:07:15Keep following us and we'll be back on Monday.
- 1:07:19It has been one hell of a week dealing with the cable
- 1:07:23situation. Excuse me, the cable situation
- 1:07:26on Monday, but that won't happen next week.
- 1:07:29Thank God. There is hurricanes going on.
- 1:07:31Hurricane Aaron is hitting, hitting everything right now
- 1:07:35and, and it's just absolutely demolishing everything that it
- 1:07:39hits. So hopefully all the families
- 1:07:41out there that are dealing with the situations with the
- 1:07:43hurricane, hopefully everybody's taking, taking cover and taking
- 1:07:47care of their families. So that's a horrible story right
- 1:07:50now that's going on right now here in the United States.
- 1:07:52So hopefully all the families are are being taken care of.
- 1:07:56Yeah. Do we have anything on Monday?
- 1:07:58Yes, Nathan was able to get Lindsay Berra, who's a Yogi
- 1:08:01Berra granddaughter, and he's a board member.
- 1:08:04She's a board member on the Yogi Berra Museum now, did a lot of
- 1:08:07Yankees content in the past with espnandmlb.com and was the
- 1:08:11executive producer as well of a documentary called It Ain't Over
- 1:08:15about Yogi Berra. I actually watched it.
- 1:08:17It's a great documentary of Yogi Berra and she was actually on
- 1:08:20it. It was sensational.
- 1:08:22Anybody that hasn't checked it, It was in the movie theater.
- 1:08:25It was in the movie theater for like a couple of weeks, but now
- 1:08:27you can get it. It was on Netflix.
- 1:08:29I think you can get it on Netflix right now.
- 1:08:31It's still on Netflix. If you haven't checked it out.
- 1:08:33It is a great documentary. The the tale of one man that
- 1:08:37just absolutely dominated the catching position, not only for
- 1:08:40the New York Yankees, but the MLB and baseball.
- 1:08:43He is really the face of the catching position.
- 1:08:46I don't care what anybody says. He was the all around greatest
- 1:08:50catcher to ever play the game, power wise, defense wise and
- 1:08:53winning as far as I'm concerned. And and the story behind him on
- 1:08:58how he became a Yankee is pretty unique.
- 1:08:59He wanted, always wanted to be a Saint Louis Cardinal, and the
- 1:09:03Cardinals passed him up and then he winded up being picked up
- 1:09:06from St. Louis.
- 1:09:07And he, the Cardinals passed him up for, I think McCarver,
- 1:09:10McCarver. And I don't know if it was
- 1:09:13McCarver, but it was somebody. And he, he signed with the New
- 1:09:15York Yankees. And you know what happened after
- 1:09:18that, so. And he served his country.
- 1:09:21As he did. And Yogi Berra is a special.
- 1:09:23I never met him. I know Jabba's met him.
- 1:09:25I'm sure Nick has met him. I never got a chance to meet
- 1:09:28Yogi Berra. I met Mickey Mantle.
- 1:09:29I did. So that was a unique opportunity
- 1:09:33that I had. I also met Pete Rose, so 2 Hall
- 1:09:37of Famous, two of the greatest players to ever play the game.
- 1:09:38I met Derek Jeter and all those guys too anyways, and Java
- 1:09:41played with them and so did Nick.
- 1:09:42So that's it. So I know Lindsay, I talked to
- 1:09:45her too. There's some cool things that
- 1:09:48she's gonna do and we'll post it or whatever, but, and we can cut
- 1:09:51this and put it up, but yeah, they're trying to break the
- 1:09:53record on September 21st for the most people to ever play catch,
- 1:09:57you have to play catch for 5 minutes simultaneously.
- 1:10:00They're doing it at the museum. We'll have more information, but
- 1:10:03if you guys want to go and check it out and kind of what they're
- 1:10:06doing, it is Yogi's big catch.org and it'll give you all
- 1:10:10the information. You can be a fan.
- 1:10:11Come watch it. But yeah, really cool thing.
- 1:10:14And she'll explain some more to us on Monday.
- 1:10:17But it's a really cool thing and she is so passionate, such a
- 1:10:19wonderful, wonderful human being, and she's really cool.
- 1:10:23So that would be fun. Yeah, sounds really cool.
- 1:10:25And again, if you're a Yogi Berra fan and you know nothing
- 1:10:28about Yogi Berra and your father, user or your grandfather
- 1:10:31used to tell you about Yogi, well, you get a chance to know a
- 1:10:34little bit more about his family and his background when Lindsay
- 1:10:38comes on and joins us on Monday. OK, that's it, ladies and
- 1:10:41gentlemen. Again, I hope everybody enjoyed
- 1:10:43the show and we'll be back next week.
- 1:10:45Goodnight. It is the worldwide sports radio
- 1:10:48network. Radio Network.
